decisions. The history section of the profile basically lists all of the investments and divestment of GM

Only 35 people per 1000 own cars in China which compared to the United States, 600 per 1000, shows
there is ample room for growth in the market. Most major car manufacture has a presence in the
market, but political forces limit the penetration of these companies. According to report in Business
source complete, the Chinese government is even pressuring domestic companies to grow and force out
foreign competition. But this goal of the Chinese government cannot be realized until the smaller local
manufactures can somehow combine so they may compete with larger foreign firms. 3) Environmental
issues are also a main concern within the industry. This issues stems from two areas Gasoline and CO2
emissions. Gasoline a major factor pertaining not only to the consumption of cars but also the type of
car that is demanded by consumers. While the United States gasoline prices are relatively lower than
other nations, car producers world wide are still producing different cars in the wake of high gas prices.
The low emission car is the new fad in the industry and has jointly led to the production of the
alternative resources cars. The combination of high gas prices and threat of damaging the environment
from combustible engines has increased the consumer s demands for automobiles to run off of
alternative resources. This new development plays well into the strengths of GM because General
Motors is already heavily devoted to R amp;D.

A Good Deed Of The Elephants
In Africa, elephant poachers also apply utilitarianism when they harm and kill elephants. Villages in
Africa are sometimes being disturbed by enraged elephants that stumble in their communities
(DocuMatForEdu1, 2016). People are injured or killed by these angry elephants, and villagers first
instinct is to defend themselves and their families. The defense mechanism they chose is to kill the
elephants. Utilitarianism comes into play here. The villagers are doing what is best for the community,
so they believe, similar to the Chinese dealers, that what they are doing is a good deed. There is reason
to kill an elephant that is hurting or killing humans, but that solution should be temporary until
villagers find a better method to cope with the elephants.
Delving deeper into Africa lies the nation of Tanzania, and its government also follows suit with the
theory of utilitarianism. The government is holding a large stockpile of ivory tusks from decades of
collecting (DocuMatForEdu1, 2016). All the tusks range in size, so the tusks were taken from elephants
of all sizes, from youngling to mature adults. These diverse collection of tusks are kept by the
government because it sees value in it. The government notices the booming ivory trade industry, and
they believe selling the stockpile one day will bring profit to the nation. Then, the profit brought from
the trade will be used for conservation efforts, such as preserving animal populations. That would be a
big win for animal

Partisan Stratification
Partisan identification refers to the political party with which an individual identifies and political
socialization can be defined as the process by which people form their ideas about politics (Hershey
2016, pg. 127). Both of these terms are important for understanding how individuals identify with the
parties they do and how in doing so can affect both the perception of the candidate and the level of
participation. Political socialization often times begins during childhood; most parents do not
consciously indoctrinate their children into partisanship, but they are nevertheless the main teachers of
political attitudes. This early identification, according to Hershey, takes hold before children have
much information as to what the parties

Summary Of Juvenile Recidivism
Recommendation Overall, I would not recommend ART as an intervention tool to prevent future
recidivism of violent juvenile offenders, mostly due to ART not having a significant effect on violent
felony recidivism in the Washington study. ART shows promise on promoting prosocial behaviors that
significantly reduce overall juvenile recidivism; however, further research is needed. Currently,
Washington State is in a good place to recreate their 1999 2003 study because (1) the state has utilized
ART since 1999 and, at this point, all courts and ART trainers should be operating at a highly
competent level, (2) the state has shown a dedication to evidence based practices, and (3) the initial
study occurred nearly two decades ago and is in need of an update. However, an updated study would
require some updated methodology.
First, the state must conduct the study with a random assignment process consistent across all
participating courts instead of the pseudo random assignment previously ... Show more content on

Second, to better capture the long term effects of ART, WSIPP should track each participant s criminal
records annually throughout their lives and regularly update their study results because, previously,
WSIPP only checked recidivism up to 18 months after ART. Additionally, this more accurate
information on long term effects may better inform the cost benefit analysis. Third, further
investigation must examine why there was no significant reduction of violent felony recidivism. One
way that this information could come out is through the use of the community functioning follow up in
the New York implementation evaluation which tasked probation/parole officers with rating the
juveniles to gauge their community functioning within six different settings: Home and Family, School,

Negative Effects Of Being African American

American is sometimes a struggle, especially when mainstream media stereotype us as one and fail to
let African Americans to speak for themselves. So, having Net Neutrality let us have a voice when it

Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 5
Bach s masterpiece, Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 is famous for many things. While the entirety of the
song is not popular together, seeing as it is 21:45, however parts of the song are recognizable to almost
any listener. Concerto No. 5 uses many different instruments to create a full orchestral sound. Concerto
No. 5 starts as a bright and happy song that is fast in pace and variety. Arguably, the most famous piece
of this song occurs, more than once, within the first nine minutes. With harmonies layered and moving
throughout the entire piece, there is a fullness and warmth to the song. The beginning of the song is
play in allegro and alludes to something exciting or fun happening. The piece suggests movement. The

Women in Art Essay
Women in Art
Throughout history many artistic works have been deemed great and many individuals have been
labeled masters of the discipline. The question of who creates art and how is it to be classified as great
or greater than another has commonly been addressed by scholars and historians. The last quarter of the
20th century has reexamined these questions based on the assertions that no women artists have ever
created or been appreciated to the level of greatness that perpetually befalls their male counterparts.
The position that society has institutionalized on women as unable to be anything but subordinate and
unexpressive is a major contributor to this claim. Giving a brief history of gender discrimination in the

According to the Guerrilla Girls, art museums average 15% women in curated exhibits, and minority
women only .003%. On top of that, only 4% of museum acquisitions are of work by women artists
(Strawter).
The study of why women artists have systematically been erased from history and why currently the
exhibition of women s art is not valued as much as the male artists continues. There have been many
theories behind the eradication of women artists from history. At the beginning of the Women s
Liberation Movement, an art historian by the name of Linda Nochlin published an article called, Why
have there been no great women artists? In here article, she addressed her own question offering one of
the first consciously feminist challenges to the established canons of art history. Her query proved to be
a rallying cry for women artists in the fervent days of the Women s Liberation movement and offered
fragments of a manifesto to women artists, and others, intent on reexamining and ultimately
restructuring the discipline (Morse, 1992). Nochlin argues that contemporary feminists contend that
there is a different greatness between men s art and women s art. This view of art undermines the
general discipline. It categorizes its value in order to give it a higher classification among gender.
Many women are trying to delve back into history and recapture any trace of artistic women in order to
document and arrange their

goals should be clearly defined but writing your goals down can only get you so far, you need you need
to take action towards your goals. Goals won t magically happen just because you ve written them
down. Even if you come up with a perfect smart goal nothing happens if you don t act on them. Three
of my personal smart goals include getting A honor roll for the next nine weeks, place second in state
for our FFAAg issues team and make an A on the exam in Government on Monday 14. In order to
measure these goals I will have to continuously track my progress and keep on top of all my work and
make sure I study for everything prior to the date it will be completed. Establishing concrete criteria for
measuring progress toward the attainment of each goal is a great way to start. When you measure your

The Picture Of Dorian Gray And A Nymph s Reply To The...
Sydney Pefferman Cavolt LA III Honors/Period 2 28 May 2017 The temptation to feel worth through
external beauty, drives each and every person to go to extreme lengths to make themselves seem as
presentable as possible. Because of society s high prioritization of external appearance, I always
personally feel pressured to look and act a certain way. However, many new perspectives on beauty
were revealed to me through novels I read throughout this year. Both The Picture of Dorian Gray and A
Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd work to develop an overarching theme that possessing a superficial
faith in youth and beauty, will ultimately lead to one s damnation. The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd
is a response written by Walter Raleigh with the intention of mocking the ideas in Christopher Marlowe
s poem The Passionate Shepherd to His Love . Marlowe s poem depicts a young shepherd attempting
to seduce his love by enticing her with an impractical version of the life they could live together. From
this poem Raleigh composed The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd which was used to scorn Marlowe s
unrealistic and fantastical views. Throughout his poem Raleigh utilizes natural imagery to convey his
central idea that all things will eventually be forced to relinquish their beauty. While the passionate
shepherd promises nature s beauty and an abundance of gifts, the nymph in Raleigh s poem reveals that
such promises could only be valid if all the world and love were young. In reality, the change in
seasons would cause the shepherd s shallow rivers to rage, rocks to grow cold and roses to fade. While
the shepherd s gifts may be persuading, Raleigh reveals that their effect is too fleeting; they would
soon break, soon wither and be soon forgotten. In the end, the nymph acknowledges that as time pases
all of these trivial things she was once offered will all be subject to change and decay, leaving nothing
in their worth. Raleigh s portrayal of the fleeting state of beauty helped encourage me to stop judging
myself and others based on external appearance, and focus more on positive internal qualities that I
know will not fade with age.
My journey throughout this year was also heavily affected by

Case Study Of Burger King And Tim Hortons
The size of potential synergies is small as Burger King and Tim Hortons will continue working as
distinct brands. As a result, only common corporate services and several purchase savings will enjoy
any arising synergies.
2.1 Burger King First, Burger King will experience an increase in revenue after taking over Tim
Hortons (Kirby, 2014). The increase of revenue is due to the improved menu resources. However,
menu resources will not help Burger King outdo its current competitors like McDonalds. It will only
help to improve Burger King position. Improved menu resources perfectly suit the takeover s new
model of concentrating strongly on international growth. Burger King knows Tim Hortons has been
trying hard to acquire a base on United States markets for several years now despite highly strong
demand in Canada. At the same time, Burger King has been dealing with high competitive tension in
the United States fast food sector. For instance, Chipotle Mexican Grill recently led the country s fast

case, Tim Hortons menu is diverse with breakfast segments that rival those of Starbucks. Tim Hortons

what they don t realize is that they respect or listen to the jerk for the most part. Often people will

Cleopatra And Cleopatra
Cleopatra is said to be the most beautiful woman in the history of human race, who successfully ruled
the hearts of the most powerful men during her time. One article states, Ever since the age of women
worship and chivalry the Egyptian queen has been one of love s martyrs. She is a good woman to
Chaucer and figures in his Legend. Being all save dull and stupid that a loving woman ought not to
have been, having loved and been loved until death. That was the medieval cardinal virtue; without in
holy writ, it was the saving grace (Stole). She was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, a Greek family
of Macedonia origin. She ruled Egypt after Alexander the Great s death during the Hellenistic period
and was the last pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. The Ptolemies spoke Greek throughout their dynasty, and
refused to speak Late Egyptian. This is why Greek and Egyptian were used on the official court
document, such as the Rosetta Stone. Cleopatra learned to speak Egyptian and represented herself as
the reincarnation of the Egyptian goddess Isis. The BBC episode of Cleopatra discusses her time as the
Pharaoh of Egypt. It also talks about her relationships with Julius Caesar and later Mark Antony. In this
essay, I will discuss Cleopatra s early life, her complications with her brother and being the last

death. This interview is outlined by Melvyn Bragg, an English broadcaster, author and

Analysis Of Malala And The Sealand Lady s Speech
Persuasive Appeals Assignment The first appeal that will be analyzed is logos, the appeal to logic. In
Malala s speech, the constant use of many statistics and facts made the speech much more reasonable
and sensible. For example: And that is why they killed 14 innocent medical students in the recent
attack in Quetta . Also, Thousands of people have been killed by the terrorists and millions have been
injured. These quotes establish logic in the sense that if one uses statistics or facts, it shows that they ve
done their research and they are aware of the issues happening globally. In the Sealand Lady s speech,
the use of reasoning and common sense is evidently shown through quotes like It is not pleasant to kill
any creature, she agreed, but to pretend that one can live without doing so is self deception and The
essential quality of life is living; the essential quality of living is change; change is evolution: and we
are a part of it. These quotes show that death is inevitable for life to form and although it s not pleasant,
it still has to happen. In addition, whoever is an enemy of change is essentially an enemy of life
because the two fit hand in hand. To conclude, the use of logos in Malala s speech and the Sealand lady
s speech was effective. The second appeal is pathos, the appeal to emotions. In Malala s speech, her
personal experiences were effective in making the readers or listeners feel sympathetic. For example,
she greets everyone

Subculture In The 1960s
Economic changes were happening in Britain; the economy had changed from heavy to light industry.
Light industry meant that jobs were created for unskilled individuals. The unskilled workers tended to
be the younger population, In Britain the labour markets had buoyed up levels of youth employment
during the 1950s and 60s (Osgerby, 2004, p. 25) and were also inexpensive to employ. With new found
economic independence young urban workers began to take advantage of the growing leisure
opportunities that were becoming available to them (Davis, 1990; Newburn, 2002) some considered
this as the formation of youth subcultures. With the younger generation in jobs this meant that they had

defined by what music they listened to also. The punk look was distressed, they would intentionally
wear torn up trousers, heavy doc martens, the fabrics that they wore were all torn and pined back
together with safety pins. Their hair was usually in a Mohawk style and their makeup was very dark.
The punk look created a androgynous, tomboyish or unisex style (Leblanc, 1999, p. 156) before the
punk generation came along the public had never seen this look been done before. The fact that women
were dressing less like women and more like men scared them. They listened to music such as The
Buzzcocks and The jam, these bands would often have offensive language in their songs. Substance
abuse was also common in the punk scene, punks had a hard exterior which people were intimidated

the glam rock scene. Glam rock also had an androgynous theme running through it, the fashion was

How to Solve The Foreclosure Crisis Essay
Due to the recession that our economy has recently experienced, American consumers are currently
undertaking serious financial problems. Such difficulties are obvious in real estate, with homeowners
having to deal with a major foreclosure crisis. According to studies by the Mortgage Bankers
Association, one out of every 200 homes will eventually be foreclosed, and 250,000 families enter into
foreclosure every three months. Although the worst times are still in our future, with help from the

In the event that the profits from the sold home cannot cover the mortgagee s payments, the lender may
file a deficiency judgment against them. More than 6 in 10 homeowners delinquent in their mortgage
payments are not aware of services that mortgage lenders can offer to individuals having trouble with
their mortgage (Freddie Mac), such as bankruptcy, appeals, a motion, or an exemption from the
creditor. When a deficiency judgment is filed against a debtor, the individual should seek the assistance
of an attorney as soon as possible. Deficiency judgments are rare, however, because a majority of
lenders feel that if a borrower is not able to make their payments initially, there is no reason to spend
their time and money on further legal action. With the occurring realization that foreclosure is a losing
proposition for both the lender and the borrower, negotiating a temporary delay in payments may
benefit both parties. Contrary to the belief that contacting a lender for help is embarrassing, useless,
and will cause the home to be lost more quickly (Freddie Mac), lenders are usually receptive to the idea
of reconstructing a payment plan. According to Craig Focardi, research director of TowerGroup s

Understanding The Piezoelectric Behavior Of Ferro-Electrics
Ferro electrics are an important class of materials which posses excellent electro mechanical coupling
behavior cite{jayendiran2012modeling}. These materials have been used in sensors, actuators,
biomedical and naval applications for several years. These materials behave linearly under low electric
fields and mechanical stresses, but show nonlinearity at higher electric fields and mechanical stresses;
see the review articles cite{kamlah2001ferroelectric,landis2004non,huber2005micromechanical}.
Several experiments have been conducted and reported in the literature to understand the nonlinear
behavior of piezoelectric materials

$1 3$ piezo composites with piezoelectric rods (one dimension) embedded in a passive polymer matrix
(three dimension) are attractive due to their tunable acoustic impedance and excellent tailor made

viscoelastic in nature, the influence of matrix in the overall electro mechanical response of piezo
composites have been reported cite{aboudi2005hysteresis, muliana2010micromechanical,
shindo2010nonlinear}. Studies related to the influence of polymer matrix on the electro mechanical
response of piezo composites have been performed cite{jayendiran2012modeling,
aboudi2005hysteresis, odegard2004constitutive}. A two level thermodynamic based micromechanics
theory for domain switching in $1 3$ piezo composites have been proposed to predict the orientation

alternatives for bulk PZT ceramics. Hence, it is necessary to understand the electro mechanical
behavior of different fiber volume fractions cite{jayendiran2012modeling}. Incorporation of a more
ductile epoxy matrix causes considerable creep in the system under constant electric fields and

Training is defined as learning that is provided in order to improve performance on the present job. A
person s performance is improved by showing her how to master a new or established technology. The
technology may be a piece of heavy machinery, a computer, a procedure for creating a product, or a
method of providing a service.
Oliver Sheldon says No industry can rendered efficient so long as the fact remains unrecognized that

Grizzly Man Sparknotes
Werner Herzog is arguably one of the most creative and innovative directors of our time. He has
produced many pictures over the past few decades ranging from a documentary on Antarctica s beauty,
to a short series on death row inmates. Herzog gained recognition as a German director in the late 70 s
to early 80 s for films like Signs of Life and Fitzcarraldo, receiving much critical acclaim. Since then
he has released many box office hits like Grizzly Man and Recscue dawn, based on the true story of
Dieter Dengler. Grizzly Man, released in 2006, is about the tragic death of an eccentric wild life
activist named Timothy Treadwell. This analysis will examine the validity to the indexical and
interpretive material in Grizzly Man. Herzog uses original Timothy Treadwell footage as well as
personal interviews to represent the reality he perceives, using the reflexive and performative modes in
the documentary. Although it is impossible to show the entire picture of Timothys story, there is
enough information provided to support Herzogs position revealed at the end. Without Treadwell alive
to speak for himself, the film remains balanced through the many interviews of people in his life.
The film starts out with Treadwells original footage of him talking to the camera. In the background are

Atonement In The Trials Of Arabella
Written by Ian McEwan and later screen adapted by Joe Wright, Atonement is an extremely effective
and well presented metanarrative. It isn t until the final stages of the book where the format of the story
is disclosed, leaving the audience with an unsuspected shock. However, upon closer inspection, the
many indicative and self referential symbols can be recognised all throughout the novel (2003) and the
film (2007).
One of the most important and well recognised symbols of the book and the film is the prevalence of
The Trials of Arabella . Before we are introduced to the story line of Atonement we are introduced to
that of The Trials of Arabella . at some moments chilling, at others desperately sad...Arabella... is
punished by ill fortune... on an impetuous dash towards a seaside town with her intended... presented
by a second chance in the form of an improvised doctor (Pg.1, McEwan). Written by Briony Tallis, the
play gives the reader the actual story line before the plot is actually introduced. Similarly, although in
the beginning of the film we do not know what the story is about, the opening scene is of Briony in
front of type writer, the scene is accompanied by sounds of a typewriter and this follows Briony out of
her room and through the house. Another indication that Cecelia is in fact Arabella is the mention of
the protagonist who ran off with an extrinsic fellow. It grieved her parents to see their first born

Health Policy And Impact On Vulnerable Populations
Health Policy and Impact on Vulnerable Populations

Arizona State University Health Policy and Impact on Vulnerable Populations (Title) Pneumonia is a
form of acute respiratory infection which is caused by a bacterium called Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Pneumonia is transmitted via air borne droplets from coughing and sneezing, and it may also spread
through blood. In 2015, pneumonia killed 15 percent of all deaths in children under the age of five,
becoming the leading cause of death in children all over the world (World Health Organization [WHO],
2015a). Many efforts were made to reduce the prevalence of pneumonia, including the free vaccination
program in 2011 against pneumonia in Kenya, which is supported by WHO and GAVI Alliance (WHO,
2015b). However, in 2012, Kenya was still ranked among the 15 countries with the highest number of
deaths cause by pneumonia, suggesting problems with current policies (Onyango, Kikuvi, Amukoye,
Omolo, 2012). This paper will evaluate these existing policies and discuss potential solutions to
overcome the epidemic of pneumonia in Kenya.

Introduction
The Canadian Act 1982 (U.K.), chapter 11, got enforced by The Canadian Charter of Rights and
Freedoms within the Canadian Constitution (1982). The Charter s 22 short sections (2 23) protect the
Canadians rights subject to 6 domains: legal, equality, democratic, mobility, fundamental and
linguistic. Trinity Western University (TWU), a distinguished evangelical and a private university in
British Columbia considered setting up a law school. TWU principles spelled out clearly that it would
not consider applicants from the same sex, as well as individuals subject to common law relationships
bound outside marriages. TWU s Christian pillars advocates for sexual purity. TWU s appeal violated
the 1982 Acts by the Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC). Six societies in Labrador, Manitoba,
Alberta, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, New Foundland, and the Prince Edward Island granted TWU
an accreditation. However, three law societies from Ontario, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia
forfeited TWU s accreditation. Such an approach made a possible appeal to the LSUC inevitable; the

Officer and Noncommissioned Officer Relationship MSG Terwan Crawley United States Army
Sergeants Major Academy Class 63 SGM Johnny Williams March 29, 2013 Abstract The disparity
between officers and non commissioned officers (NCO) in the military still prevails on the social and
professional levels. The major issue of the relationship between these groups of men is considered an
issue of class structure which is attributed to the differences in the educational levels between them.
NCOs are treated in the same manner as a low category enlisted men and as such do not serve as a
bridge between the enlisted men and officers. This wide social gap tends to make the learning process
imprudent and ineffective. Many of the NCOs usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are the leaders responsible for the execution of the mission of a military organization as well as

and the commissioned officers for the effective and smooth flowing activities involved in the
completion of their missions. Officers and NCOs as Responsible Leaders With great authority indeed
comes great responsibility. The commissioned and non commissioned officers carry great
responsibility, but the level of responsibility each individual carries is different throughout this career.
A new sergeant is responsible for a single squad, whereas a lieutenant is responsible for an entire
platoon. The commissioned officer plays a management role and is responsible for supervising
hundreds or thousands of soldiers in accomplishing a mission. Most importantly, it must be well

Korean Pop
Korea had become trendy because it provided what the youth wanted throughout the region. The
phenomenon can be partially explained by noting how Korean popular culture catapulted forward
during the 1990s, leaving much of Asia behind as it abandoned conservatism and censorship,
diversifying, appropriating, absorbing and innovating. In its fusions, it created an Asian equivalent of
European and American pop. Japanese pop, of course, had long had this function throughout the
region, but the 1990s was a time for re examining the Pacific War s legacy, and Korea offered a less
tainted alternative to Japan. Keith Howard Background of the Study The global world widely perceives

Fandoms are usually implied to be those crazy, raving fans, mostly female ones, who always stalk (in
Korean pop vocabulary, *spazz) their Korean pop idols. They are usually thought of as obsessive,
brainless and foolish people. People who criticize them just do not know how passionate these fandoms
are. Although they are known for showing their support through watching their Korean pop idols and
buying Korean pop merchandise, they go beyond than that; these fandoms also organize parties and
charitable events to help the needy and at the same time, to mingle with their fellow KPop fans.
Through this, it can be observed that Filipinos form these groups so that they can socialize with other
people who also have the same inclinations, as demonstrated by the subculture of KPop fans, in the
country, flamed by activities of fandoms. More than a recreation and hobby, for KPop fans, it is their
happiness and fulfillment to support their idols. Through a brief research, it has been observed that the
Korean wave is popular among many Filipino teenagers because it offers a fresh cultural aspect,
encourages self expression and serves as a psychological and social urgency. Significance of the Study

Diagnosis Of The Community At Risk Essay
Asthma in Oakland California
Description of the Community at Risk Asthma has become a rising issue at hand, especially in
Oakland, California. Asthma is at an all time high in Oakland because of the factories and smog that
surrounds the local communities. After conducting research, I decided to dig deeper in asthma in
Oakland because I wanted to learn more and to see if there was a way to reduce the rise of asthma.
Asthma in Oakland is an issue for all ages, especially the younger ones because their lungs are still
developing. For my term paper, I plan to explore the disproportionate burden of hazard of the
population of air quality in Oakland, California, an area that is impacted by factory smoke, which can
lead to asthma in children who are 18 years of age or younger.
Along with Oakland, I came across research on Alameda County as well and decided to include some
of the findings from the articles. Oakland does not have the best or suitable air quality due to the large
number of the factories that surround the local communities so the quality of air is affected as well as
the individuals who have asthma. The factory exhaust and smoke make it harder for individuals with
asthma to breathe and the poor air quality can send them into an asthma attack. Also, some of the
schools in Oakland need to make sure they are up to date and have proper measures for children s
safety in the schools meaning proper ventilation.

Organization
First impressions are crucial. If a classroom is organized and appropriately arranged, then it is apparent
that the teacher possesses good management skills. A variety of things must be considered when
arranging the classroom. It must contain interesting materials appropriate to a child s stage of
intellectual development and not appear thrown together (Streng, 1978). All fire exits, doorways, and
main walkways must be kept open and free of clutter while built in cupboards, drawers, closets, etc
must be easily accessible as well. The desk arrangement, perhaps the most important element, requires
several considerations. Placing the students desks in groups promotes peer tutoring and collaborative

Stack trays and file organizers are effective in keeping papers organized and easily accessible (Steele).
It is also a good idea to go through papers and the next day s lessons before going home. This will
ensure that everything will get done and that your desk will not be as cluttered (Class). A teacher s desk
is crucial to classroom organization. That is where everything begins and where necessary information
is kept for future use. If unorganized it reflects poorly onto the teacher and sets a bad example for the
students.
Much like the classroom, supplies should be as equally arranged. If available, putting them in a
cupboard neatly arranged and labeled is the best method. When out of sight students as well as the
teacher are less likely to be distracted. To ensure no wasted time it is often a good idea to have a helper
pass supplies out when needed. This allows the teacher to give directions or begin the activity without
having to take time out to hand out the necessary items (Glover, 1994). It also gives students
responsibility and keeps the class involved with all the aspects of learning and their classroom.

Importance Of Ethics In Engineering
Engineering and ethics are two things that most may, at first thought, believe have nothing to do with
one another, but in order to be a successful engineer, one must fully understand the ethical
responsibilities that they have. Engineering ethics is the moral principles that an engineer must uphold
throughout their entire career. Engineers have an obligation to themselves and society to understand
these ethical responsibilities and maintain their own ethical values and responsibilities.
Introduction
In order to become a licensed engineer in the United States, an engineer must pass their professional
engineering exam that will test the engineer on a variety of subjects, one of those subjects being ethics.
The National Society of Professional Engineers has adopted and implemented their Code of Ethics
since 1964. The fundamentals of the Code of Ethics state that:
Engineers, in the fulfillment of their professional duties, shall:
1. Hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public.
2. Perform services only in areas of their competence.
3. Issue public statements only in an objective and truthful manner.
4. Act for each employer or client as faithful agents or trustees.
5. Avoid deceptive acts.
6. Conduct themselves honorably, responsibly, ethically, and lawfully so as to enhance the honor,
reputation, and usefulness of the profession
In summary, an engineer must uphold all responsibilities and perform all duties necessary to maintain
an ethical connection to society that includes but is not limited to the safety and positive welfare of the
public.
Case Studies
Throughout history there has been multiple example of ethics in engineering, both good and bad. The
following case studies are examples of how ethics play an important role in engineering and whether or
not the subjects of discussion acted in an ethical way or not. We will examine the ethical issues
involved in each case and how they impacted society and other in the field of engineering. This will
also include my personal opinion on each case study and what ethical issues I believe are involved in
each case.

How to Help Australians in Poverty
Do any of you wake up one morning and not know if you re going to be able to have a decent meal for
the whole day? or not being able to have a shower and brush your teeth? What even being able to drink
clean water? These questions may seem extreme or over the top, but it is a complete reality to those
living under extreme poverty. According to research of the oxford dictionary , poverty is the state of
being extremely poor. My goal here is to inform you about the main causes of poverty and what we can
do here in Australia to help those in need. What are the causes of poverty? There is no one cause for
poverty across the world. However, there are many components that contribute to poverty.
One of those includes overpopulation, imagine living in the same house with 20 other people. There
wouldn t be much space to do anything, countries such as China and India have such an incredibly high
population density that they don t have the necessities to look after everyone. Overpopulation has a
large impact to poverty, as it gives a rise to unemployment as there are fewer jobs to support such a
large amount of people. This then results in a rise in crime as people are resorted to steal to simply feed
for their family and the basic needs.
Another contribution to poverty is inadequate education and employment. Something we take for
granted in a developed country is the ability to have access to education. Many children in third world
counties have diminutive knowledge about

Hand Hygiene Research Paper
Introduction
The dirtiest thing you own maybe your cell phone. Imagine what touches your phone the most,
probably your hands and face. Since cell phones are everywhere and have become one of the most
helpful tools of our generation, they have their drawbacks. The use of cell phones happens everywhere
today, one place being the hospital. From a study of phones and spreading of bacteria associated with
health care associated infections, Karabay states, Our study reveals that mobile phones may get
contaminated by bacteria (such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella
pneumoniae), which cause hospital infections, and may serve as a vehicle for the spread of nosocomial
pathogens (Karabay, 2007). Touching contaminated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These microorganisms are transmitted from poor hand hygiene from health care workers to patients as
well as touching of contaminated equipment and environmental surfaces. Microorganisms are most
commonly introduced to susceptible sites such as open wounds or other portals of entry by
contaminated hands. Infection leads to adverse clinical outcomes and can directly threat patient
recovery.
Another problem that goes with the lack of hand hygiene compliance is the many excuses that
healthcare workers use to avoid washing their hands. Hass and Larson summarize (2009) some of the
barriers to adherence that healthcare workers use, a lack of access to hand washing sinks, insufficient
time, skin irritations, and lack of accountability (Hass amp; Larson, 2009). Some solutions they explain
to combat the barriers are to put more alcohol based sanitizers where sinks are not around and placing
them all over the patient care areas also reduces time and can be a suitable way for proper hand
hygiene if the healthcare worker s hand is not soiled. They also describe, Involve staff in trying several
alcohol based hand sanitizers before deciding on one, and involve employee health services in creating
a plan to manage hand skin problems among staff. Alcohol based sanitizers that have lotion in them
can be helpful for staff who have very sensitive skin (Hass amp; Larson, 2009).

Hmong Social Structure
Social Structures: Hmong vs. Lao Migration is inevitable in the case of the aftermath of conflicts and
wars. Indochina or mainland Southeast Asia is a region where similar stories of migration result to
settlement for diverse groups of people. Two ethnic groups that fall into this story are Hmong and Lao.
Both groups have their unique characteristics, ranging from living in different elevations to having
distinctive social organization patterns. Both Hmong and Lao have very idiosyncratic ethnic identities.
Hmong are known for their diaspora from the mountainous region of southern China into Southeast
Asia (Lecture, 02/07/17). They reside in the highlands ranging from 3,500 to 9,000 feet, while Lao
reside in the lowlands below 3500 feet (Lecture, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hmong followed a patrilineal kinship system. Only men can inherit properties and belongings; the
father holds title to family property. When couples are married, residence after marriage is either
patrilocal or neolocal, but in the vicinity of paternal house (LeBar, 75). When daughters marry, they
move out of the house. Hmong marriage is regarded as a bond between two clans, so they have strict
exogamy practices. Hmong men remain members of their birth clan for life (Hein, 68). Each of the
family clans have a leader, who is the eldest male of the line. Their society was male centered (Lecture,
01/26/17). On the other hand, Lao followed the Southeast Asian pattern, which was a bilateral kinship
system. Kinship ties are felt to be equally strong on both sides, the mother and the father (LeBar, 217).
Lao kinship is more laid back compared to Hmong. They pay little attention to genealogies, since
tracing more than three generations is difficult for them (LeBar, 217). Both men and women can inherit
in the family as well, so Lao women are less subordinate to Lao men. Unlike Hmong, Lao couples have
freedom in choosing whether to live on their own or with either spouses family (Lecture, 01/26/17).
Lao marriage does not ensue strict exogamy practices, and Lao, traditionally, have no family names.
Lao are known by their given names, not family names. Overall, Hmong and Lao have the exact

A Study On Smoke Management System
1 LITERATURE REVIEW 1.1 Introduction Buildings with atrium are big challenge for smoke

where there is amount of fuel to maintain steady heat release rate, there is probability that the fire will

Polyphemus drunk and tell him that his name was Nobody so that no one would come in to help him
and to escape on the bellies of his sheep so that he would not be able to hear them. Odysseus s pride
can also be a downfall because he wants his name known so badly that it causes him bad karma. In this
case, after attacking Polyphemus, blinding him, and escaping; he still feels the need to reveal his true
identity. This causes Polyphemus to reach out to his father Poseidon and seek vengeance on

Human Resource Management And Human Resources
Human resource management entails the management of the people working in an organization. These
are the people who are entrusted to help meet the organizations objectives. They start from the lowest
level employees to the top management. Human resource management therefore, encompasses the
entire workforce who help to uplift and grow the company into the great multinational corporations
they are from their inception to date. The significance of the human resources in organizations has
become more evident over the years as more managers discover the relationship between
organizational performance and employee retention and satisfaction. Therefore, they must strive to gain
the best employees to represent their interests in the market. People who will work together to meet the
organizations objectives and people who will make the organization have a competitive advantage over
all others in the market. The human resources approach to management emphasizes the importance of
human capital in the organization. This paper describes the role of human resource management in an
organization. It also analyses the differences between personnel management and human resource
management as well as the phases of human resource planning. The second part of the paper analyses
the factors involved in the recruitment of employees, and factors pertaining to employee payment, job
evaluation and cessation of employment. The third part of the paper focusses on employee motivation

Essay on Collusion Between British Airways and Virgin
The tacit collusion case to be discussed involves the illegal collusion and setting of fuel surcharges to
commercial and cargo transatlantic fares between British Airways (BA) and Virgin Atlantic Airways
(Virgin). The factors which contributed to its success will be discussed, as well as why, and its
implications, of becoming public. To begin with, it would be beneficial to define both collusive
behaviour and the nature of the competition involved in the aviation industry.
Collusion is the act of a number of firms within an industry agreeing to set a certain price, output or
another parameter and is almost always against the law. This is as they all compete in the given
industry, with the setting of prices or outputs done in favour of the ... Show more content on

As the nature of the good is a seat on a plane, clearly capacity constraints are present in the form of the
limited seating on aircraft, as well as the inability to in the short run increase output beyond full
capacity. During the setting of price, clear communication will most likely result in a non static
equilibrium. As well as this, the symmetry in terms of the market and cost structures has played a part
in creating a successful cartel. Each firm produces a relatively homogenous good in terms of economy,
business or first class, with a limited amount of features it can differentiate itself from its competitors.
As well as this, using Figure 1, which will be discussed later on, demonstrates that the main costs to an
airline are those which cannot be easily reduced or offset, most notably the cost of fuel and aircraft
maintenance. Therefore both firms have near perfect knowledge of the cost structure and revenue
through observing prices, and will aid in choosing a certain pricing strategy.
What follows will be a detailed discussion of the specific market conditions which lead to the
successful collusion between BA and Virgin.
The UK Transatlantic Flight market as a whole can be said to hold many key factors which have led to
successful collusion. The first is due to the high levels of

The Media Representation Of The Collective Action By...
Statement of Purpose It is essential in an increasingly globalised world, to have a deep understanding
of nation states, political and economic institutions that govern, and the cultural backgrounds and
values of its citizens. My interest in sociology has thus far entailed studying of the indigenous
communities of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), Bangladesh. For my MA thesis, I propose to study the
media representation of the collective action by the Indigenous nationalism against the backdrop of
Bengali nationalism in CHT. My Master of Social Science (M.S.S) degree in sociology has developed
my skills in interpretation and analysis as well as in constructing reasoned arguments. I have gathered
experience as a social activist and journalist and have also worked with several Swedish teacher groups
in Rural Bangladesh Study Projects. Those projects focused on cultures, value systems, economic
structure, religion, political participation, organizational attachment, etc.Apart from improving my
sense of freedom and work ethic, this has given me numerous valuable experiences dealing with
different type of people and communities. As I believe in citizen rights, I am immensely interested in
community backgrounds, their political history, cultural diversities and interactions towards others. I
have keenly observed community problems and various forms of collective actions like political
movements as well as armed resistance. My experience as a media employee enlightened me about

Misery Movie Analysis
Misery is a movie based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. The movie adaptation was
directed by Rob Reiner and released on November 30, 1990. The movie is about a famous writer, Paul
Sheldon who created the popular Misery series. He finished the first drafts of all his books in the Silver
Creek Lodge in Colorado. He just finished his new novel Fast Cars and is heading back to New York to
get his manuscript printed when his car crashes in Colorado. Paul is pulled out of the wreckage by a
woman named Annie Wilkes, who is his number one fan. She takes him back to her home and nurses
him back to health. Annie s obsession takes a dark turn when she discovers Paul kills off her favourite
character from his Misery novels. As Sheldon makes a plan to try and escape, Annie grows more
controlling and violent as she forces the author to write a new book to suit her corrupt fantasies.
Through the latent content, it is revealed that the true meaning of this film is of an incomplete oedipal
complex. The beginning of the film starts off with frames of a cigarette, a match and a bottle of
champagne. The cigarette and the match are both phallic symbols and Paul Sheldon, the author of the
famous Misery novels always smokes one every time he finishes a new book. Paul Sheldon being the
incomplete oedipal complex. The champagne is both a yonic and phallic symbol. The bottle cork is
phallic and the bottle is yonic and because the cork is in the bottle, it makes the whole

Critical Analysis Of Star Wars

Critical Analysis of Star Wars Released in 1977, the original Star Wars movie quickly became the
highest grossing film of all time and it changed the way people thought of filmography. With its unique
special effects and storyline, it created a new era of Hollywood movies. It became a huge blockbuster
and eventually spawned a new universe that now spans several decades. The films, now numbering six
with three more being made, have a fan base of millions of people. In order for a film (series) to have
that large of a fan base, the fans must be able to relate to the film. The Star Wars films are collectively a
modern mythological narrative, meaning that it represents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This enables the dominant race to grant privileges to some while at the expense of others. Entrance into
this group is usually exclusive to one type of person (Kendall). In totalitarian and dictatorial instances,
such as in Star Wars, the line between the group in power and all others is bold and easy to see. Those
who are not members of the group in power are subject to discrimination and have fewer rights and
privileges in his or her society. The Star Wars films provide both symbolic and concrete evidence of
this racial disparity. George Lucas use of color throughout the films is essential in the development of
the narrative as well as to emphasize the progression of the racial inequalities and prejudices between
humans and aliens. The color progression from The Phantom Menace to The Return of The Jedi acts as
a sort of meter pertaining to the collapse of the Republic and the rise of the Galactic Empire. The first
film chronologically, The Phantom Menace, employs bright, happy colors to convey hope and life. The
vibrant colors of Naboo, the underwater home of the Gungan s, and the interior of many key buildings
are all made up of colors that are synonymous with (relative) peace and innocence. As the Star Wars
prequels progress to A New Hope, the bright colors are overtaken by greys, blacks, and reds.
The warm color palette is synonymous with democracy, diversity, and

The Pros And Cons Of Developing An Autonomous Car
Google as one of the leading tech companies in the world always tries to come out with new ideas.
Their recent project is developing an autonomous car. Autonomous car is a car that can drive by itself
without any assistance, using technologies, such as sensors, camera, radar, and GPS. According to
Google, deaths from traffic accidents are over 1.2 million worldwide every year and 94% of them are
caused by human error. From this fact, they decided to create an autonomous car that is more practical
and safer. Even though it seems like a promising idea, they are currently facing some legal barriers. For
instance, California rules prohibit the use of an autonomous car that does not have a steering wheel or a
brake pedal. A licensed operator must

  • 3. A Good Deed Of The Elephants In Africa, elephant poachers also apply utilitarianism when they harm and kill elephants. Villages in Africa are sometimes being disturbed by enraged elephants that stumble in their communities (DocuMatForEdu1, 2016). People are injured or killed by these angry elephants, and villagers first instinct is to defend themselves and their families. The defense mechanism they chose is to kill the elephants. Utilitarianism comes into play here. The villagers are doing what is best for the community, so they believe, similar to the Chinese dealers, that what they are doing is a good deed. There is reason to kill an elephant that is hurting or killing humans, but that solution should be temporary until villagers find a better method to cope with the elephants. Delving deeper into Africa lies the nation of Tanzania, and its government also follows suit with the theory of utilitarianism. The government is holding a large stockpile of ivory tusks from decades of collecting (DocuMatForEdu1, 2016). All the tusks range in size, so the tusks were taken from elephants of all sizes, from youngling to mature adults. These diverse collection of tusks are kept by the government because it sees value in it. The government notices the booming ivory trade industry, and they believe selling the stockpile one day will bring profit to the nation. Then, the profit brought from the trade will be used for conservation efforts, such as preserving animal populations. That would be a big win for animal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Summary Of Juvenile Recidivism Recommendation Overall, I would not recommend ART as an intervention tool to prevent future recidivism of violent juvenile offenders, mostly due to ART not having a significant effect on violent felony recidivism in the Washington study. ART shows promise on promoting prosocial behaviors that significantly reduce overall juvenile recidivism; however, further research is needed. Currently, Washington State is in a good place to recreate their 1999 2003 study because (1) the state has utilized ART since 1999 and, at this point, all courts and ART trainers should be operating at a highly competent level, (2) the state has shown a dedication to evidence based practices, and (3) the initial study occurred nearly two decades ago and is in need of an update. However, an updated study would require some updated methodology. First, the state must conduct the study with a random assignment process consistent across all participating courts instead of the pseudo random assignment previously ... Second, to better capture the long term effects of ART, WSIPP should track each participant s criminal records annually throughout their lives and regularly update their study results because, previously, WSIPP only checked recidivism up to 18 months after ART. Additionally, this more accurate information on long term effects may better inform the cost benefit analysis. Third, further investigation must examine why there was no significant reduction of violent felony recidivism. • 8. Women in Art Essay Women in Art Throughout history many artistic works have been deemed great and many individuals have been labeled masters of the discipline. The question of who creates art and how is it to be classified as great or greater than another has commonly been addressed by scholars and historians. The last quarter of the 20th century has reexamined these questions based on the assertions that no women artists have ever created or been appreciated to the level of greatness that perpetually befalls their male counterparts. The position that society has institutionalized on women as unable to be anything but subordinate and unexpressive is a major contributor to this claim. On top of that, only 4% of museum acquisitions are of work by women artists (Strawter). The study of why women artists have systematically been erased from history and why currently the exhibition of women s art is not valued as much as the male artists continues. There have been many theories behind the eradication of women artists from history. At the beginning of the Women s Liberation Movement, an art historian by the name of Linda Nochlin published an article called, Why have there been no great women artists? In here article, she addressed her own question offering one of the first consciously feminist challenges to the established canons of art history. Her query proved to be a rallying cry for women artists in the fervent days of the Women s Liberation movement and offered fragments of a manifesto to women artists, and others, intent on reexamining and ultimately restructuring the discipline (Morse, 1992). Nochlin argues that contemporary feminists contend that there is a different greatness between men s art and women s art. This view of art undermines the general discipline. It categorizes its value in order to give it a higher classification among gender. Sydney Pefferman Cavolt LA III Honors/Period 2 28 May 2017 The temptation to feel worth through external beauty, drives each and every person to go to extreme lengths to make themselves seem as presentable as possible. Because of society s high prioritization of external appearance, I always personally feel pressured to look and act a certain way. However, many new perspectives on beauty were revealed to me through novels I read throughout this year. Both The Picture of Dorian Gray and A Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd work to develop an overarching theme that possessing a superficial faith in youth and beauty, will ultimately lead to one s damnation. The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is a response written by Walter Raleigh with the intention of mocking the ideas in Christopher Marlowe s poem The Passionate Shepherd to His Love . Marlowe s poem depicts a young shepherd attempting to seduce his love by enticing her with an impractical version of the life they could live together. From this poem Raleigh composed The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd which was used to scorn Marlowe s unrealistic and fantastical views. Throughout his poem Raleigh utilizes natural imagery to convey his central idea that all things will eventually be forced to relinquish their beauty. While the passionate shepherd promises nature s beauty and an abundance of gifts, the nymph in Raleigh s poem reveals that such promises could only be valid if all the world and love were young. In reality, the change in seasons would cause the shepherd s shallow rivers to rage, rocks to grow cold and roses to fade. While the shepherd s gifts may be persuading, Raleigh reveals that their effect is too fleeting; they would soon break, soon wither and be soon forgotten. In the end, the nymph acknowledges that as time pases all of these trivial things she was once offered will all be subject to change and decay, leaving nothing in their worth. Raleigh s portrayal of the fleeting state of beauty helped encourage me to stop judging myself and others based on external appearance, and focus more on positive internal qualities that I know will not fade with age. For example: And that is why they killed 14 innocent medical students in the recent attack in Quetta . Also, Thousands of people have been killed by the terrorists and millions have been injured. These quotes establish logic in the sense that if one uses statistics or facts, it shows that they ve done their research and they are aware of the issues happening globally. In the Sealand Lady s speech, the use of reasoning and common sense is evidently shown through quotes like It is not pleasant to kill any creature, she agreed, but to pretend that one can live without doing so is self deception and The essential quality of life is living; the essential quality of living is change; change is evolution: and we are a part of it. These quotes show that death is inevitable for life to form and although it s not pleasant, it still has to happen. In addition, whoever is an enemy of change is essentially an enemy of life because the two fit hand in hand. Japanese pop, of course, had long had this function throughout the region, but the 1990s was a time for re examining the Pacific War s legacy, and Korea offered a less tainted alternative to Japan. Fandoms are usually implied to be those crazy, raving fans, mostly female ones, who always stalk (in Korean pop vocabulary, *spazz) their Korean pop idols. They are usually thought of as obsessive, brainless and foolish people. People who criticize them just do not know how passionate these fandoms are. Although they are known for showing their support through watching their Korean pop idols and buying Korean pop merchandise, they go beyond than that; these fandoms also organize parties and charitable events to help the needy and at the same time, to mingle with their fellow KPop fans. Through this, it can be observed that Filipinos form these groups so that they can socialize with other people who also have the same inclinations, as demonstrated by the subculture of KPop fans, in the country, flamed by activities of fandoms. More than a recreation and hobby, for KPop fans, it is their happiness and fulfillment to support their idols. Through a brief research, it has been observed that the Korean wave is popular among many Filipino teenagers because it offers a fresh cultural aspect, encourages self expression and serves as a psychological and social urgency. • 29. Diagnosis Of The Community At Risk Essay Asthma in Oakland California Description of the Community at Risk Asthma has become a rising issue at hand, especially in Oakland, California. Asthma is at an all time high in Oakland because of the factories and smog that surrounds the local communities. After conducting research, I decided to dig deeper in asthma in Oakland because I wanted to learn more and to see if there was a way to reduce the rise of asthma. Asthma in Oakland is an issue for all ages, especially the younger ones because their lungs are still developing. For my term paper, I plan to explore the disproportionate burden of hazard of the population of air quality in Oakland, California, an area that is impacted by factory smoke, which can lead to asthma in children who are 18 years of age or younger. Along with Oakland, I came across research on Alameda County as well and decided to include some of the findings from the articles. Oakland does not have the best or suitable air quality due to the large number of the factories that surround the local communities so the quality of air is affected as well as the individuals who have asthma. The factory exhaust and smoke make it harder for individuals with asthma to breathe and the poor air quality can send them into an asthma attack. Also, some of the schools in Oakland need to make sure they are up to date and have proper measures for children s safety in the schools meaning proper ventilation. A variety of things must be considered when arranging the classroom. It must contain interesting materials appropriate to a child s stage of intellectual development and not appear thrown together (Streng, 1978). All fire exits, doorways, and main walkways must be kept open and free of clutter while built in cupboards, drawers, closets, etc must be easily accessible as well. It is also a good idea to go through papers and the next day s lessons before going home. This will ensure that everything will get done and that your desk will not be as cluttered (Class). A teacher s desk is crucial to classroom organization. That is where everything begins and where necessary information is kept for future use. If unorganized it reflects poorly onto the teacher and sets a bad example for the students. Much like the classroom, supplies should be as equally arranged. If available, putting them in a cupboard neatly arranged and labeled is the best method. When out of sight students as well as the teacher are less likely to be distracted. To ensure no wasted time it is often a good idea to have a helper pass supplies out when needed. This allows the teacher to give directions or begin the activity without having to take time out to hand out the necessary items (Glover, 1994). It also gives students responsibility and keeps the class involved with all the aspects of learning and their classroom. • 33. Importance Of Ethics In Engineering Engineering and ethics are two things that most may, at first thought, believe have nothing to do with one another, but in order to be a successful engineer, one must fully understand the ethical responsibilities that they have. Engineering ethics is the moral principles that an engineer must uphold throughout their entire career. Engineers have an obligation to themselves and society to understand these ethical responsibilities and maintain their own ethical values and responsibilities. Introduction In order to become a licensed engineer in the United States, an engineer must pass their professional engineering exam that will test the engineer on a variety of subjects, one of those subjects being ethics. The National Society of Professional Engineers has adopted and implemented their Code of Ethics since 1964. The fundamentals of the Code of Ethics state that: Engineers, in the fulfillment of their professional duties, shall: 1. Hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public. 2. Perform services only in areas of their competence. 3. Issue public statements only in an objective and truthful manner. 4. Act for each employer or client as faithful agents or trustees. 5. Avoid deceptive acts. 6. Conduct themselves honorably, responsibly, ethically, and lawfully so as to enhance the honor, reputation, and usefulness of the profession In summary, an engineer must uphold all responsibilities and perform all duties necessary to maintain an ethical connection to society that includes but is not limited to the safety and positive welfare of the public. Case Studies Throughout history there has been multiple example of ethics in engineering, both good and bad. The following case studies are examples of how ethics play an important role in engineering and whether or not the subjects of discussion acted in an ethical way or not. We will examine the ethical issues involved in each case and how they impacted society and other in the field of engineering. How to Help Australians in Poverty Do any of you wake up one morning and not know if you re going to be able to have a decent meal for the whole day? or not being able to have a shower and brush your teeth? What even being able to drink clean water? These questions may seem extreme or over the top, but it is a complete reality to those living under extreme poverty. According to research of the oxford dictionary , poverty is the state of being extremely poor. My goal here is to inform you about the main causes of poverty and what we can do here in Australia to help those in need. What are the causes of poverty? There is no one cause for poverty across the world. However, there are many components that contribute to poverty. One of those includes overpopulation, imagine living in the same house with 20 other people. There wouldn t be much space to do anything, countries such as China and India have such an incredibly high population density that they don t have the necessities to look after everyone. Overpopulation has a large impact to poverty, as it gives a rise to unemployment as there are fewer jobs to support such a large amount of people. This then results in a rise in crime as people are resorted to steal to simply feed for their family and the basic needs. Another contribution to poverty is inadequate education and employment. Something we take for granted in a developed country is the ability to have access to education. Many children in third world counties have diminutive knowledge about ... Another problem that goes with the lack of hand hygiene compliance is the many excuses that healthcare workers use to avoid washing their hands. Hass and Larson summarize (2009) some of the barriers to adherence that healthcare workers use, a lack of access to hand washing sinks, insufficient time, skin irritations, and lack of accountability (Hass amp; Larson, 2009). Some solutions they explain to combat the barriers are to put more alcohol based sanitizers where sinks are not around and placing them all over the patient care areas also reduces time and can be a suitable way for proper hand hygiene if the healthcare worker s hand is not soiled. They also describe, Involve staff in trying several alcohol based hand sanitizers before deciding on one, and involve employee health services in creating a plan to manage hand skin problems among staff. Hmong marriage is regarded as a bond between two clans, so they have strict exogamy practices. Hmong men remain members of their birth clan for life (Hein, 68). Each of the family clans have a leader, who is the eldest male of the line. Their society was male centered (Lecture, 01/26/17). On the other hand, Lao followed the Southeast Asian pattern, which was a bilateral kinship system. Kinship ties are felt to be equally strong on both sides, the mother and the father (LeBar, 217). Lao kinship is more laid back compared to Hmong. They pay little attention to genealogies, since tracing more than three generations is difficult for them (LeBar, 217). Both men and women can inherit in the family as well, so Lao women are less subordinate to Lao men. Unlike Hmong, Lao couples have freedom in choosing whether to live on their own or with either spouses family (Lecture, 01/26/17). As well as this, the symmetry in terms of the market and cost structures has played a part in creating a successful cartel. Each firm produces a relatively homogenous good in terms of economy, business or first class, with a limited amount of features it can differentiate itself from its competitors. As well as this, using Figure 1, which will be discussed later on, demonstrates that the main costs to an airline are those which cannot be easily reduced or offset, most notably the cost of fuel and aircraft maintenance.
