Creation in Ancient Egyptian religion can be much different than the creation account taken from The
Bible. Genesis has a set description of The Beginning while there are several different versions and
variations in Egyptian mythology. The versions range from a one god myth (Ptah; see picture) to the
more common creator out of Nun, which in itself has several derivations.
The Ogdoad is a grouping of eight gods that existed before the creator and formed him. This version is
taken from Middle Egypt at Hermopolis. The eight gods consisted of Amun, Huh, Kuk, and Nun and

Creation began by a bodily function of the creator god. Either through ejaculation, sneezing, or
spitting the creator began to produce others (Redford). The creator god had other gods come into
being and they in turn began to create until the ancient Egyptians had a sufficient explanation for there

After a while Lorrissa, Megan and I went up to her room and sat around and talked until around three

Mandarin Chinese as one of the unique languages in the world has many significant features, and one
of them is ellipsis of subjects and objects. In English, a complete sentence consists of at least three
basic elements which are a subject, an object, and a verb. However, compare with English, Mandarin
Chinese does not have strict grammatical rules to form a complete sentence because people can leave
out subjects or objects when they talk to each other. Although there are many sentences in Mandarin
Chinese lack of subjects or objects, the sentences are still clear and grammatically correct. Therefore,
can we conclude that subjects and objects are not necessary for spoken Mandarin Chinese? In other
words, when can a speaker omit the subject or the object in Mandarin Chinese?
Ellipsis of subjects also occurs in spoken English, but it normally in a set phrase. For example, people
often say see you tomorrow rather than I will see you tomorrow. Moreover, due to grammatical
requirement, not every sentence in English can omit the subject. Although sometimes the sentence is
still understandable without the subject, the meaning will become ambiguous. Compare with English,
ellipsis of subjects is more common in spoken Mandarin Chinese. Unlike English, it does not have any
grammatical restriction and can be used in any sentence. Therefore, In order to have a better
understanding of ellipsis of subjects and objects in Mandarin Chinese, I use examples from video
recording that I recorded in an apartment. There are two participants in the video and both of them are
native Chinese speaker. Two participants know each other very well, and the conversation topic is
about the Animation class that female speaker takes this quarter.
In the conversation, the female speaker omits subjects constantly, and the listener can still understand
what she wants to say and respond to her. For example, the female speaker says:
