Annexation Of Texas Dbq Essay
Throughout the late 1830s and early 1840s, political controversy broke out over the annexation of
Texas into the United States claiming that it was the destiny of the country to expand through the
Manifest Destiny. Many Americans saw the potential addition of Texas as an essential component in
Westward expansion, however, war with Mexico was an unavoidable risk and would create even more
problems with slavery. Northern and Western regions of the Unites States opposed annexation because
while the South wanted to add Texas into the Union to expand the slave industry. Annexation of Texas
was also seen as revenge for the vast amount of American deaths during the Alamo and Goliad.
Politicians battled back and forth on whether or not Texas should be in American control or not. I

During the Alamo and Goliad, American blood was spilled by the Mexicans as a result of a mild revolt
against the Mexican government. In Polk s World Message from 1846, Polk explained that it is the
duty of the to protect the citizens of no matter what country they are currently living in. Polk stated
that, Mexico has passed the boundary of the United States, has invaded our territory and shed
American blood upon American soil. She has proclaimed that hostilities have commences and that the
two nations are now at war... We are called upon by every consideration of duty and patriotism to
vindicate with decision the honor, the rights, and the interest of our country . Polk is justifying the
annexation of Texas because it is the United States obligation to fight back for all of those killed in the

As the population increases everywhere around the world and people are getting accustomed to home
meal replacement product, demand is rising everywhere. Social and economic factors also shape the
demand, and gave rise to mergers and acquisitions, broader product line and increased capital
investment. Manufacturers, who can supply high quality product with wide range of interdependent
equipment pieces, have an advantage over competitors. Industry analysis shows that in 1999, the total
value of shipped food product machinery was $2.968 billion a 3% increase from 1998. Strong
economy, increased income, new construction and remodeling of food provider level led to a forecast
of food product shipment increase by 1% above U.S domestic economic growth. Important aspects of
the food equipment industry: Apart from the mergers and acquisitions taking place, the industry
outlook was drastically changing because of development in the areas of food safety, material prices,
general economic trend, skilled labor, technology and e commerce. Number of consumers who were
concerned about food safety was increasing. Material cost is an important factor in every industry.
Even in this industry, around 30% of the final cost is tied up in steel, which causes fluctuation in the
product price. This in turn determines the industry profitability and growth. On one hand, the industry
was facing shortage

Honey Bees Pesticide
1. A pesticide is a substance used to eliminate insects or other organisms that come into contact with
the plant life that the substance is placed on, this tactic of removal is damaging to both harmful and
helpful insects or organisms.
2. Essentially, the YouTube video gives an overview on honey bees, pollinators, being threatened due
to harmful pesticides. It can be seen that fewer honey bees are coming out of the winter season and the
ones that do are already weak, which puts them at a disadvantage. Nonetheless, at the end of the
video, the point is made that pesticides are not the only problem honey bees face and the solution is
not to have people come together to just eliminate pesticides to improve the decline of honey bees.

This is my good neighbor, George, We often talk to each other when we are cleaning up our cars on
Sunday. Besides these conversations and living in the same neighborhood, there is nothing between
us. Base on Viorst s description, convenient friends are those that we would not have naturally
befriended, and only cross paths occasionally. These people are not really friends in the original sense
of the word. These are people we get to relate with out of convenience and do not have talk to them
too much about ourselves. Even Viorst admitted that: But we don t with convenience friends, ever

the time when I was so sick. I could not go to school, so Huy was the only one that took care of me

The higher the processor rate, the faster in which a processor can process information and thus the
quicker it will be. In some instances, individuals boost clock speed by overclocking, a term used to
push the clock speed beyond the manufacturers recommendation. This is common for those who use
their computers for gaming. However, doing so will void the warranty and can overheat the CPU.
Cache is a type of memory that is kept on or in proximity to the CPU for quicker retrieval. The CPU
uses and stores frequently used data or instructions in the cache instead of being accessed slower
through the RAM. Cache is designated as Level 1 (L1), stored on the CPU itself and Level 2 (L2),
stored on a separate chip next to the CPU. When there is Level 3 (L3) cache, L3 cache will be on a
separate chip and L1 and L2 will be built onto the CPU. More cache memory will allow a processor to
be more powerful.
RAM is known as Random Access Memory. This is the temporary memory space for a computer. The
more RAM you have the more programs you can have operating at the same time. It temporarily
houses the instructions and information the computer is currently using but only does so when the
computer on. When the power is off, any data on the RAM is wiped clean.
There are different types of RAM. The common type of RAM today is double data rate 3 (DDR3).
With each DDR3 RAM, they come in different speed rates. The higher the speed rate, the higher the

What Is Socrates Argument For The Soul s Immortality
On the day of Socrates execution, conducted by the state of Athens, he has a number of friends and
philosophers join him in his cell to discuss his perceptions on death and his soul in the afterlife.
During his final conversation preceding his passing, Socrates presents four arguments for the soul s
immortality and suggests that each genuine philosopher should not be fearful of death, but should
instead look forward to it. While I agree with Socrates on the premise that the soul is immortal, I do
not feel that any of his arguments are sufficient enough to prove this belief to be true. Plato s Phaedo
allegedly recounts these events and departing conversations with Socrates. Socrates first argument
regarding the soul s immortality focuses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soul is and always will be indestructible (106e). He believes that every single new life created
came from the death of another life. Socrates does not go into many specifics with this point, as he
poses his belief as a closing testimony to his life. In addition, none of the bystanders argue against his
final argument, as they realize that this is the last of Socrates. If one is intended to believe that
Socrates means any form of life and any form of death, then I fully support his four arguments in
totality and would take back all of my previous claims. However, he doesn t openly say that the
transmigration of the soul reaches beyond humans and into animals or other living organisms. For this
reason, his fourth argument is rather unnecessary and is repetitive. Socrates fails to bring any new
knowledge to the table, and is simply reiterating points that he made in his previous three arguments.
It seems that he has ran out of justifications for his beliefs, so he finalizes with his main point all along
instead of presenting a new argument. I applaud Socrates for this, as he wants his peers to realize that
he believes his soul will live on and that is all that should matter for him on the day of his death. For
this reason, I do not have any negative things to say, other than it not being obligatory, about Socrates
final

Benefits And Disadvantages Of Using Social Media
Analyse the benefits and disadvantages of using social media to market to the various different
stakeholder groups Social media tools are disruptive technologies that have radically altered the way
people view and use communication. This transformation is occurring in many ways and in many
places that influence lifestyle and social interaction. (Grover and Stewart, 2010, p.7). Grover and
Stewart (2010) express that social media is a technology that has changed the way people interact and
communicate in our day to day lives. Looking at Grover and Stewarts theory, it suggests alteration in
the way we converse as a society, having an influence on many topics, one of which being business
engagement. A stakeholder is someone who can have an effect on a company or has been affected by a
corporation in some way (Boutilier, 2011). For the purpose of this report, we will be analysing the
pros and cons of marketing to various stakeholder groups using social media. In addition, I have been
selected to take upon an important role as the marketing manager for Virgin Media. I will be looking
at the ways in which social media has helped to market this service, and what potential problems
could have been or still can be avoided, using real life examples. Virgin is one of the world s most

He invented Generic Competitive Strategies that are vital to compete in any industry. His strategies
are: cost leadership strategy, differentiation and focus, which is divided into cost focus and

its profits by reducing costs and charging average prices. The differentiation strategy is an opposite
way the company that follows this strategy often has higher prices for its services, but it is different
and more attractive than its competitors. Focus strategy means that the company that follows it
concentrates on some niche market. The division of focus strategy means that one companies can try
to be successful in cost leadership, while focusing on a niche market and other companies will follow

to understand why, for example, the airlines industry is the least profitable one. It has an easy market

him to differentiate between different companies, so the customers just chooses what is the most

• How Does The Sympathetic Nervous System Prepare Your...
Your Body s Response to Emergency
How does the body prepare for emergencies? The answer lies in the Sympathetic Nervous System
(SNS). It is the branch of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) that controls the body s reaction to
physical and emotional stressors. The sympathetic branch activates the glands and organs that defend
the body against attack. It is called the fight or flight response.
This is a primitive response designed to protect from danger. When danger is perceived, the
sympathetic nervous system responds immediately to prepare a person to stay and fight or take flight.
Blood rushes away from nonessential systems such as the digestive and excretory systems and is
redirected to the extremities. The heart beats faster to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The glucose obtained from the liver cells produces a surge in energy better known as an adrenaline
rush . The hormones also bind to receptor cells on smooth muscle and inhibit the muscles of the
stomach and intestines, slowing down the digestive process and allowing more energy for emergency
functions. When these hormones bind to the smooth muscle cells of the bronchioles, they cause the
muscles to relax allowing more oxygen into the blood. At the sinoatrial node of the heart, epinephrine
stimulates the pace maker cells to beat faster. Epinephrine also contracts certain types of muscles
below the skin, causing beads of sweat and raised hairs. Once fight or flight has taken place, another
branch of the ANS, the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) can take over again, calming
everything down and returning body processes to normal.
The fight or flight response is useful in the short term because it assists the body in responding quickly
and effectively in emergencies. However in the long term, the sympathetic response can become
harmful. This is because the functions of sympathetic activation can put additional stress on the
nervous system. If the sympathetic system remains highly active, the parasympathetic response will
not activate and return the body to homeostasis. This means the body does not get the chance to
recover from stress causing a number of physical and psychological disorders.
In conclusion, the brain is a complex organ with the ability to cause

Bioindicators of Strawberry Creek Edar Liu, Cindy Sandoval Espinoza, Ethan Schlatter, Weirui Xiao
October 9, 2016 Biology 1B, Section 224, Group 1 Abstract: Through our research we aimed to
determine if there were any differences in water quality of both the north and south forks of
Strawberry Creek. As time progresses and the environment changes it is important to keep track of
how certain species are being impacted by these features, and how they cope with change. We
hypothesized that due to the lack of pollution, the south fork will promote a greater diversity of
macroinvertebrates. This was due to the fact that there was less runoff and trash that could be
introduced to the water in the south fork, than there was in the north fork. We gathered data by
analyzing the different organisms living in both forks. We collected a total of fifty vials composed of
five organisms from each fork, and inspected them under microscopic view. After gathering data and
identifying the different kinds of organisms living in the different forks we assessed whether the
organisms from the samples could live in high or low resolution water. We also took a t test to assess
the probability of these differences being due to relevant factors or by chance. Our major findings
suggest that organisms in the south fork showed a higher demand to living in cleaner water indicating
that our hypothesis was correct. Introduction: Urbanization has a longstanding legacy of affecting

Sacrifice In Duty, Humility, And Tax
Many people do not realize that they sacrifice something every single day, whether its not texting at
the dinner table or saving their money just to buy their loved one a gift. There are many forms of
sacrifice that provide a different feeling each time someone sacrifices in a different way. Although one
must know the proper time to sacrifice something without expecting to be rewarded.
There are many types of different sacrifices that one must learn about in order to achieve a feeling of
accomplishment each time one gives something up. For example duty, humility, and tax are all
different types of sacrifice. When you must give up your free time in order to get something done this
is considered duty sacrifice. Duty sacrifice is the most common because it occurs on a daily basis and
increases with age. For instance, doing homework rather than going to the movies with friends or
going to work on someones birthday. Then there is the sacrifice of humility, this is giving up your
pride in order to achieve something. An example of this would be choosing a peers idea over your own
in a group project. This kind of sacrifice is not common yet it still occurs. Lastly there is tax sacrifice
which is paying money in order to purchase something that is necessary . This could be paying a bill
or buying school supplies when you want to purchase the new video game that just came out. ... Show

The Effects Of Immune System On The Body
Immunity
MersihaFrlj
Herzing University, Minneapolis MN
The purpose of the immune system is to prevent and minimize infections; this is how the body
protects us from microbes that would otherwise make us ill or kill us (Dugdale, 2013). The immune
system works by differentiating between our own cells (self antigens), foreign cells (antigens), and
pathogenic microbes (Dugdale, 2013). When our cells discover anything unfamiliar, our immune
system works to destroy it(Dug dale, 2013). If the immune system cannot activate to kill foreign cells,
we can get infections (Dugdale, 2013). Conversely, if it is activated without any foreign cells present it
can cause pathopysiological problems (Dugdale,2013). This paper will focus on the ... Show more

the lesion can become inflamed and erythematic (Hunt, 2014).
Immunodeficiency and Affect on the Body WHO recognizes more than 220 immunodeficiency
diseases (Specific Disease Type, 2015). These diseases are also chronic and happen when part of the
immune system is defective, missing, or not functioning the way it should ( Specific Disease Type,
2015). These type of disease can be an antibody deficiency, a cellular immunodeficiency, or an innate
immune disorder (Specific Disease Type, 2013). One innate immune disorder is HIV (Pagana, 2015).
This is a type of retrovirus that contains a protein and depresses the immune system (Pagana, 2015).
Antibody deficiencies affect the upper respiratory, sinuses, or lungs (Specific Disease Type,
2013).Finally, cellular immunodeficiency can cause viral, fungal, and bacterial infections in humans
(Specific Disease Type, 2013).

Persuasive Essay On Barbie Doll
In my opinion, I believe that kids should be playing with dolls that have normal features, or with
action figures where the superheroes muscles/features should resemble to what an average person s
features should look like. Even though barbies help entertain girls and inspire them, I still believe that
girls should be playing with dolls that have normal features. People aren t really aware about the
things kids actually thought about themselves when they play with barbie dolls or action figures.
There are girls as young as five that are concerned about their body image. They believe that the way
the barbie looks like is the same way they should look like when they get older. It isn t just girls that

Postman s Amusing Ourselves to Death Essay
Amusing Ourselves to Death; Mediums, Friend or Foe?
Electronic media is inferior to print media due to the fact that electronic media can be bias, selective,
and evasive for the purpose of entertainment. Electronic media serves as a form of entertainment with
a main goal of serving their ratings rather than serving the people. It would seem that Postman would
agree with this theory since he describes electronic media as a form of entertainment rather than a
reliable source of information and facts in his book Amusing Ourselves to Death.
Let s start by taking a look at the bias side of electronic media. Take for instance the difference
between Fox News and CBS. Both are news stations, both are intended to bring us the news, yet the ...

Earlier this week, the FBI officially transferred the Chandra Levy investigation to its Cold Case unit,
which historically has handled only the toughest of cases, which have few clues. [Rest of story]
RATHER: You may want to keep in mind the case remains officially a missing person case. No crime
has been established, no one has been accused by lawmen of anything, much less formally charged.
No one s been charged with breaking any laws. (Dan Rather and Jim Stewart, CBS Evening News,
7/18/01)
While the contrasts between the two are obviously different where one depicts that Condit is the cause
of the problem, the other clearly states just the facts.
My second point is that Electronic Media tends to become evasive while broadcasting.
They tend to focus on points that were based on opinion rather than facts so that they may receive
more ratings, in turn create more profit. I once again turn to the same story of Chandra Levy s
disappearance. Although CBS just states the facts, Fox News states opinions in their polls, news
article headings, and their complete coverage of the story, while focusing on Mr. Condit (Fox News
7/15/01). Fox News gained high ratings for the Chandra Levy story, only because they fed off of the
icon, Gary Condit. Bringing a celebrity into anything makes it more interesting because he or she is
more widely known. Now when you have titles such as Condit s Acting Guilty (Dana Blanton, Fox
News 7/07/01), you will have

Sherman Alexie Metaphors
In his essay, Alexie is showing how his childhood struggles made him the man he s today, He was told
time and time again that he was going to get nowhere in life and would be another stereotypical Indian
boy expected to fail. Instead of being weak and caving to peer pressure, Alexie overcame and proved
that he was more than just a stereotypical indina boy, Furthermore, His message is to disslove the
sterotypes that all indian children are unintelligent as well as to encourage his readers that education is

These repeated words, phrases, and ideas bring home the theme of essay to the readers. The paragraph

in a formal sense, he described them as being a fence that held words. This helps his readers
understand how he grasped the concepts of paragraphs and essays.

Alexie decribed his story in a way that really resonated with mine. I was just 9 years old when I first

Use Of Satire In A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift
The dictionary definition of satire is the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and
criticize people s stupidity or vices. Particularly, in the context of contemporary politics or other
topical issues. If one were to examine contemporary culture today they would notice that it is
becoming more and more satirized. One could argue this by turning on any program and listening for
hidden messages alluding to some cause or political reference. Satire appears in many forms and may
be used to shock the reader or targets into changing their behavior.
For instance, in Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal he highlighted the poor conditions in Ireland.
Additionally he talked about the English and Irish people s poor approaches ... Show more content on

Gulliver is a giant and he could kill all the Lilliputians by simply accidentally stepping on them,
although this is the case the Lilliputians still think that they can control Gulliver. The first two vices
introduced by Swift superiority, and dominance humans think that their bigger than they are, and they
also want to control everything.
In the Following section the reader meets the giants of Brobdingnag, and the situation is essentially
reversed now instead of Gulliver being large, thereby feeling important he is small. Which he feels
makes him insignificant to everyone else. In this part of the book by making Gulliver smaller the
reader is now able to see how disgusting and self righteous man is. This is seen as Gulliver observes
the Brobdingnagians.
The Queen took up at one mouthful as much as a dozen English farmers could eat at a meal which to
me was for some time a very nauseous sight (Swift 103).
Swift not only showed how self righteous humans can be, but also judgemental. When the king of the
Brobdingnagians observed Gulliver he concluded that
You have clearly proved that ignorance, idleness, and vice may be sometimes the only ingredient for
qualifying a legislator; that laws are the best explained, interpreted, and applied by those whose
interest and abilities lie in perverting, confounding and eluding them. I cannot, but conclude the bulk

A Comparison Of The Seven Year Itch, Trifles
In the past few weeks we have read several plays, The Seven Year Itch, Trifles, and Pomp and
Circumstance. Many aspects of them have stuck out to me, such as the setting and the personalities of
the characters in them. Another thing that intrigued me is that these three plays all take place in
different time periods. The era that a play takes place can impact its direction due to differences in
social classes and boundaries and even how the opposite sex is treated.
The first play I will be discussing, The Seven Year Itch was created by George Axelrod; this play takes
place is 1952. There is a big difference between this play and Trifles; women had more freedom to do
what they wanted and some of them even held jobs now, although rather low ... Show more content on

Up until the 1940 s women were pretty much property to their fathers and husbands. They cleaned and
did most of all the housework, while men went out and worked. In the early years of the 1900s women
were not allowed to own property in their own name; the woman s property that she did own became
her husband s when married. Women who protested in the Progressive Movement were reported as
being neurotic, wanting to intimidate men, be hysterical and homosexual. In only four states were
women allowed to vote, most urban areas were less tolerable of this issue ( Progressive ). Trifles is an
accurate example of the treatment women had in the American home. Mrs. Wright was basically a
prisoner in her own home. The women noticed things such as broken jars, the unclean towel, and for
some reason, a dead canary stuffed into the quilting basket, which shown that she was unhappy with
her new life. Mrs. Wright used to love to sing, but her husband made her quit. While the men belittled
the women s investigations around the Wright home, the women pretty much solved the crime. They
did keep Mrs. Wright out of trouble by not telling the men about their new discoveries. That goes to
show that women tend to pay more attention to the finer details while it may go unnoticed by an
uncaring eye

X Ray Irradiation Essay
The aim of this study is to research the mechanisms and therapeutic effects of x ray treatment on rats
after spinal cord injury. Their hypothesis was that x ray irradiation could alter the microcirculation of
the injured site, impede the deterioration of the spinal cord, and advance the recovery of structure and
function after spinal cord injury in rats.
Their methodology involved investigating the x ray irradiation treatment in an experimental spinal
cord injury model. Then they could analyze the effect of x ray irradiation on the restoration of
neuromotor functions. For their experimental design, 46 female Sprague Dawley rats were exposed to
spinal cord injury using the altered Allen weight drop mechanism. These rats were then separated ...

X ray therapy stimulates the reconstruction of the spinal cord system after injury. The experiments
also indicated that the anatomical rehabilitation of the spinal cord injured region is probably contrived
from the x ray treatment. The results demonstrated that the irradiation treatment possibly advances the
restoration of the spinal cord central nervous system. In the sham operated group, the NF count greatly
increased at 14 weeks compared to 6 weeks. This revealed that the spinal cord central nervous system
has a self repair mechanism after spinal cord injury. There was no considerable disparity in the 10 Gy
and the 20 Gy group from this experiment. In our results myelin showed first a decrease, and then an
increase following spinal cord injury in rats. This outcome indicated that the spinal cord injury and
repair coexisted, by being injured first and then repairing it. In addition, the myelin count significantly
decreased in the irradiation group at week 14 after spinal cord injury, which showed that ionizing
radiation also has lasting impacts on the spinal cord central nervous system. All in all, this experiment
successfully verified that local x irradiation could help the regeneration of the spinal cord in a rat

Candide s Lack of Wit: Humorous or Dangerous?
A timeless classic that still has relevance in today s society, Candide by Voltaire is a satirical and
humorous piece that criticizes many elements of society. The novel was written to warn the public
about the consequences of radical optimism, and this can be seen through the depiction of the main
character: Candide. Candide, is a naïve and trusting young man who is banished from his home, but
despite the fact that his life is filled with a series of bizarre disasters, Candide holds on to his
optimism, giving the reader a chuckle as well as spreading Voltaire s message. By incorporating
humor, a satirical tone, and many instances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is most evident in the names of the characters: Candide means bland, naïve, and highly
susceptible to the influence of stronger characters, while Pangloss is Greek for all tongue. This
suggests that Pangloss s teachings have no real substance, and that naïve Candide is mislead by his
teacher s words. Candide s steadfast nature is portrayed in many scenes of the novel, and Voltaire uses
these instances to demonstrate how extreme optimism and blind acquiescence can have a detrimental
effect. Candide drew near and saw his benefactor, who rose above the water one moment and was then
swallowed up for ever...the villain swam safely to the shore, while Pangloss and Candide were borne
thither upon a plank (32). Voltaire s jovial tone allows him to satirize Pangloss s radical optimism and
Candide s susceptible nature while still moving the plot along. His use of connotative diction, such as
à priori to describe a ridiculous theory mocks the idea and highlights the absurdity of it. This suggests
that Pangloss s extreme optimism and Candide s innocence were the cause of the poor Anabaptist s
death and that this way of thinking will always cause danger to

Annexation Of Texas Dbq Essay Throughout the late 1830s and early 1840s, political controversy broke out over the annexation of Texas into the United States claiming that it was the destiny of the country to expand through the Manifest Destiny. Many Americans saw the potential addition of Texas as an essential component in Westward expansion, however, war with Mexico was an unavoidable risk and would create even more problems with slavery. Northern and Western regions of the Unites States opposed annexation because while the South wanted to add Texas into the Union to expand the slave industry. Cache is a type of memory that is kept on or in proximity to the CPU for quicker retrieval. The CPU uses and stores frequently used data or instructions in the cache instead of being accessed slower through the RAM. Cache is designated as Level 1 (L1), stored on the CPU itself and Level 2 (L2), stored on a separate chip next to the CPU. What Is Socrates Argument For The Soul s Immortality On the day of Socrates execution, conducted by the state of Athens, he has a number of friends and philosophers join him in his cell to discuss his perceptions on death and his soul in the afterlife. During his final conversation preceding his passing, Socrates presents four arguments for the soul s immortality and suggests that each genuine philosopher should not be fearful of death, but should instead look forward to it. The soul is and always will be indestructible (106e). He believes that every single new life created came from the death of another life. Socrates does not go into many specifics with this point, as he poses his belief as a closing testimony to his life. In addition, none of the bystanders argue against his final argument, as they realize that this is the last of Socrates. If one is intended to believe that Socrates means any form of life and any form of death, then I fully support his four arguments in totality and would take back all of my previous claims. However, he doesn t openly say that the transmigration of the soul reaches beyond humans and into animals or other living organisms. For this reason, his fourth argument is rather unnecessary and is repetitive. Socrates fails to bring any new knowledge to the table, and is simply reiterating points that he made in his previous three arguments. It seems that he has ran out of justifications for his beliefs, so he finalizes with his main point all along instead of presenting a new argument. I applaud Socrates for this, as he wants his peers to realize that he believes his soul will live on and that is all that should matter for him on the day of his death. Benefits And Disadvantages Of Using Social Media Analyse the benefits and disadvantages of using social media to market to the various different stakeholder groups Social media tools are disruptive technologies that have radically altered the way people view and use communication. This transformation is occurring in many ways and in many places that influence lifestyle and social interaction. (Grover and Stewart, 2010, p.7). Grover and Stewart (2010) express that social media is a technology that has changed the way people interact and communicate in our day to day lives. It is the branch of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) that controls the body s reaction to physical and emotional stressors. The sympathetic branch activates the glands and organs that defend the body against attack. It is called the fight or flight response. This is a primitive response designed to protect from danger. When danger is perceived, the sympathetic nervous system responds immediately to prepare a person to stay and fight or take flight. The glucose obtained from the liver cells produces a surge in energy better known as an adrenaline rush . The hormones also bind to receptor cells on smooth muscle and inhibit the muscles of the stomach and intestines, slowing down the digestive process and allowing more energy for emergency functions. When these hormones bind to the smooth muscle cells of the bronchioles, they cause the muscles to relax allowing more oxygen into the blood. At the sinoatrial node of the heart, epinephrine stimulates the pace maker cells to beat faster. Epinephrine also contracts certain types of muscles below the skin, causing beads of sweat and raised hairs. Once fight or flight has taken place, another branch of the ANS, the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) can take over again, calming everything down and returning body processes to normal. The fight or flight response is useful in the short term because it assists the body in responding quickly and effectively in emergencies. However in the long term, the sympathetic response can become harmful. This is because the functions of sympathetic activation can put additional stress on the nervous system. If the sympathetic system remains highly active, the parasympathetic response will not activate and return the body to homeostasis. This means the body does not get the chance to recover from stress causing a number of physical and psychological disorders. In conclusion, the brain is a complex organ with the ability to cause ... • 19. Water Quality Of The North And South Forks Of Strawberry... Bioindicators of Strawberry Creek Edar Liu, Cindy Sandoval Espinoza, Ethan Schlatter, Weirui Xiao October 9, 2016 Biology 1B, Section 224, Group 1 Abstract: Through our research we aimed to determine if there were any differences in water quality of both the north and south forks of Strawberry Creek. As time progresses and the environment changes it is important to keep track of how certain species are being impacted by these features, and how they cope with change. We hypothesized that due to the lack of pollution, the south fork will promote a greater diversity of macroinvertebrates. This was due to the fact that there was less runoff and trash that could be introduced to the water in the south fork, than there was in the north fork. We gathered data by analyzing the different organisms living in both forks. We collected a total of fifty vials composed of five organisms from each fork, and inspected them under microscopic view. After gathering data and identifying the different kinds of organisms living in the different forks we assessed whether the organisms from the samples could live in high or low resolution water. We also took a t test to assess the probability of these differences being due to relevant factors or by chance. Our major findings suggest that organisms in the south fork showed a higher demand to living in cleaner water indicating that our hypothesis was correct. Introduction: Urbanization has a longstanding legacy of affecting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Effects Of Immune System On The Body Immunity MersihaFrlj Herzing University, Minneapolis MN The purpose of the immune system is to prevent and minimize infections; this is how the body protects us from microbes that would otherwise make us ill or kill us (Dugdale, 2013). The immune system works by differentiating between our own cells (self antigens), foreign cells (antigens), and pathogenic microbes (Dugdale, 2013). When our cells discover anything unfamiliar, our immune system works to destroy it(Dug dale, 2013). If the immune system cannot activate to kill foreign cells, we can get infections (Dugdale, 2013). Conversely, if it is activated without any foreign cells present it can cause pathopysiological problems (Dugdale,2013). This paper will focus on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Electronic media is inferior to print media due to the fact that electronic media can be bias, selective, and evasive for the purpose of entertainment. It would seem that Postman would agree with this theory since he describes electronic media as a form of entertainment rather than a reliable source of information and facts in his book Amusing Ourselves to Death. No crime has been established, no one has been accused by lawmen of anything, much less formally charged. No one s been charged with breaking any laws. My second point is that Electronic Media tends to become evasive while broadcasting. They tend to focus on points that were based on opinion rather than facts so that they may receive more ratings, in turn create more profit. I once again turn to the same story of Chandra Levy s disappearance. Although CBS just states the facts, Fox News states opinions in their polls, news article headings, and their complete coverage of the story, while focusing on Mr. Condit (Fox News 7/15/01). One could argue this by turning on any program and listening for hidden messages alluding to some cause or political reference. Another thing that intrigued me is that these three plays all take place in different time periods. The first play I will be discussing, The Seven Year Itch was created by George Axelrod; this play takes place is 1952. The experiments also indicated that the anatomical rehabilitation of the spinal cord injured region is probably contrived from the x ray treatment. The results demonstrated that the irradiation treatment possibly advances the restoration of the spinal cord central nervous system. In the sham operated group, the NF count greatly increased at 14 weeks compared to 6 weeks. This revealed that the spinal cord central nervous system has a self repair mechanism after spinal cord injury. There was no considerable disparity in the 10 Gy and the 20 Gy group from this experiment. In our results myelin showed first a decrease, and then an increase following spinal cord injury in rats. This outcome indicated that the spinal cord injury and repair coexisted, by being injured first and then repairing it. A timeless classic that still has relevance in today s society, Candide by Voltaire is a satirical and humorous piece that criticizes many elements of society. The novel was written to warn the public about the consequences of radical optimism, and this can be seen through the depiction of the main character: Candide. Candide, is a naïve and trusting young man who is banished from his home, but despite the fact that his life is filled with a series of bizarre disasters, Candide holds on to his optimism, giving the reader a chuckle as well as spreading Voltaire s message. Candide s steadfast nature is portrayed in many scenes of the novel, and Voltaire uses these instances to demonstrate how extreme optimism and blind acquiescence can have a detrimental effect.
