My Life Span Development Class
On February 17, 2016, our Life Span Development class observed the physical, cognitive, and
social development of Asher, a 5.5 month old male. The observation was conducted at Dordt
College in room CL2260 and the infant s parent consented to participate in the live observation.
Asher was quite sick and later saw a doctor, so the findings of this report may not entirely represent
Asher s development.
Asher was 5 weeks along when his mother, Abby, found out she was pregnant. Asher is the third
child and has a 4 year old sister and a 3 year old brother. Abby tried to eat as healthy as she could
during her pregnancy to ensure that Asher would be as healthy as possible. Thus, she avoided
lunchmeats, seafood, and soft cheeses. At 20 weeks, Abby had an ultrasound, in which no
structural abnormalities were found. Since this was her third child, Abby chose not to take part in
prenatal counseling. Labor lasted only about an hour, and Asher was born by Cesarean Delivery
like his two siblings. Asher was born on September 2nd, 2015, weighing 7lbs., 10oz. at a length of
21 inches. These are both above average for both height and weight of newborns in North America
but within two standard deviations of the average (Santrock, 2014). At 5.5 months, Asher weighs
17 pounds. This is about the normal weight, for Asher is on pace to triple his birth weight by age
one (Santrock, 2014).

Throughout history, there have been millions of philosophers. However, none of them have
uncovered the truth about human nature. The issue of morality has never been truly resolved.
There is an endless amount of arguments about humans being internally good, but there are just as
many for the alternate idea that humansare evil. The short stories that best exemplify humannature
are Child By Tiger , Am I Blue? , and Once Upon a Time . In all these short stories, there is a
climax involving the protagonist and then the author tells us how the supporting characters react.
We see how the town reacts to Dick, how the world reacts to Melvin s second wish, and we see
how the gardener reacts to the boy getting caught in the security system. Wolfe, Gordimer, and
Coville show us that human nature isn t the way we act, but it is the way we react; thus we aren t
inherently good nor evil, but a blend of the two.

pass Upper Brook Street, so it is a busy road. The restaurant is white in colour so it is easily
differentiated among other restaurants in the block like Subway and Zaytoon. It is a small shop
accommodating 20 people at one time. During both period I visited, almost all seats are
occupied. The restaurant workforce consists of four chefs (three male and one female), a
dishwasher, waiter, and waitress. All chefs wore white as in most restaurants and attendants wore
black. It reminds me of Harley Davidson riders who wear black as they do not show any dirt.
Perhaps the same belief applies here as restaurant attendants should look clean all the time.
The menu was bilingual (English and Korean) to cater all nationality but customers often ask
