Essay On The Eucharist
When one thinks of the Eucharist, they might think that it is just Christ s Body and Blood, and after
we receive it, we can go along doing our own thing. That is false. You see, the Eucharist is not just
something you receive on Sunday, and forget about; it is more than that. We are called to perform
services in the world and in our communities because of the Eucharist. This paper is about what we
are called to do after we receive the Eucharist, and what we as Catholics should be doing already. The
Eucharist enables us to come together as a Church every Sunday, and sometimes more often than that.
It also unites us with the angels in heaven and the deceased, which enables all of God s people to
participate in the celebration of Jesus s sacrifice. As Catholics, we never really worship alone. At the
Eucharistic Liturgy, we gather with the young and old, the rich and poor, as well as millions around
the world and the saints in heaven, to celebrate Christ s sacrifice (Body of Christ, Broken for the
World). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One soon begins to realize that all people are children of God and need to be treated equally with
dignity and respect, no matter what their race, social status, etc. Let me remind you: this is because of
the Eucharist. The Eucharist educates us to this love in a deeper way; it shows us, in fact, what value
each person, our brother or sister, has in God s eyes, if Christ offers Himself equally to each one,
under the species of bread and wine. If our Eucharistic worship is authentic, it must make us grow in
awareness of the dignity of each person. The awareness of that dignity becomes the deepest motive of
our relationship with our neighbor (Dominicae Cenae,

Epidemiology Is The Branch Of Medicine
Epidemiology
Epidemiology is the branch of medicine that deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible
control of diseases and other factors relating to health (Schneider, 8). In 1847, a Viennese obstetrician
by the name of Ignac Semmelweis discovered the importance of handwashing in a hospital setting
(Gawande, 15). Before the discovery of antibiotics, childbed fever was the number one cause of
maternal death in childbirth. Semmelweis realized by not washing their hands, doctors were the ones
responsible for carrying the bacteria that caused the fever from mother to mother. After implementing
strict hand washing rules the death rate of mothers decreased from 20% to 1% almost overnight
(Gawande, 15). Discoveries like the one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scientists have yet to discover what exactly causes BSE but the leading theory is that it is caused by
prions infectious agents made entirely out of protein that are usually found in the brain and spinal cord
and can only currently be treated if caught before symptoms arise. Humans that eat infected meat may
be infected with Creutzfeldt Jakob disease which causes brain lesions that ultimately kill the infected.
Another important function of epidemiology is the control of disease. Epidemiologists are tasked with
researching and creating vaccines. A vaccine is a substance used to kickstart the production of
antibodies and help build a resistance to one or several diseases, created from a part of the existing
disease or a man made substance. To create the vaccines scientists have to do thousands of hours of
research and testing. There are many different types of vaccines; some deactivate the disease, some
weaken it, and some even use a piece of the bacteria or virus to counteract its ill effects. If a vaccine
cannot be found epidemiologists can use the factors that facilitate the transmission of the disease also
known as determinants of the disease ,such as where it is spreading and the medium it uses to travel ,
to keep it from spreading. An example of a disease without a vaccine but with clear determinants is
HIV.
Epidemiologist do not only work with diseases that are infectious they also work with chronic

The Jim Crow Laws
From the end of Reconstruction in 1877 to the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement in 1954, laws
were in place that enforced racial segregation (referred to as Jim Crow laws). Beginning in the late
1870s , Southern state legislatures, which were no longer under the control of freedmen and
carpetbaggers, passed legislation that required whites to be separated from persons of colour in
schools and public transportation, which was anyone who was strongly suspected of black ancestry.
Along with this, the segregation principle extended to theatres, restaurants, cemeteries, and parks in an
attempt to prevent contact between whites and blacks as equal members of society. At the state and
local level, it was codified and in the infamous U.S. Supreme Court case Plessy v. Ferguson. On June
7, 1892, Homer Plessy bought a first class ticket to Covington at the Press Street Depot in New
Orleans. After telling the conductor that he was a colored man , the former asked him to move to the
coloured car, but the latter refused because he exclaimed that he was an American citizen and that he
intends to ride to Covington. Soon afterward, Plessy was arrested and dragged off of the train. Four
months after his arrest, Plessy s attorneys entered a plea claiming that Louisiana s Separate Car Act,
which Plessy violated, was unconstitutional. Consequently, this would mean that the court didn t have
the jurisdiction to hear or determine all of the facts. Also, his attorneys claimed that the

Frank Norris s Mcteague
Since the beginning of time, humans like animals, possess certain innate behaviors that both are
naturally born with. For example, animals are born, taken care of and spend their life making sure they
have enough food in order to survive and in the end, reproduce. Similarly, humans also possess a
natural instinct to survive, consume, and reproduce in order to keep this on going cycle alive. The
comparison between humans and animals at time may disturb certain people due to the simplification
and degradation of the human race. However, it is this naturalistic view in life that certain individuals
believe should not be shielded from the public in order to protect people and instead, believe it is
necessary to educate as many people possible in the reasoning and acceptance of mankind s innate
actions. The novel McTeague, written by Frank Norris, is a book that demonstrates an individual s
natural behaviors and desires which continues to be carried out by people today just as it has been
since the beginning of time. It is through McTeague, that Frank Norris illustrates mankind s
naturalistic behavior that not only grabs the attention of the readers but infuriates the public as well.
Benjamin Franklin Norris, otherwise known as Frank Norris was born on March 5, 1870 in Chicago,
Illinois. Throughout his life, Frank Norris attended school in Paris, the University of California, and
Harvard University which would later benefit him by establishing relationships which would

South Dakota Education
Education is widely considered a professional field of work. However, in South Dakota it doesn t
seem to be treated like one. Funding per student in South Dakota is significantly lower than the
national amount, as well as the amount surrounding states give per student. In fact, according to the
South Dakota Budget and Policy Institute funding per student is $2,000 less in South Dakota than the
national average, and surrounding states give about $5,000 more per student than South Dakota.

profession just because they couldn t afford to remain teaching. However, the real victims of low

people think that teachers don t work hardly at all through the year. In actuality they more often times

Freud s Views on Forgetting a Proper Name and Dream...
Freud s Views on Forgetting a Proper Name and Dream Analysis
In several of his books, including Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis and On Dreams, Freud
combines the topics of forgetting a proper name and dream analysis, formulating a thesis that helps to
clarify his theories on both. He describes in psychoanalytic terms the mechanisms behind forgetting of
a proper name and how they relate to the methods used in dream analysis. By looking at the two topics
from a joint perspective, we can gain a greater understanding of them and how they relate to other
areas of psychoanalysis. The tendency toward forgetting of a proper name is an important theme in
Freud s work. He explained the way in which forgetting something like a name ... Show more content

Or again: there are cases in which the parapraxes multiply, form chains, and replace one another
#8230; (ILp 35 36) It is in this line that understanding the preconscious becomes important.
Preconscious describes a division of the mind that falls in between repression (unconscious) and
recognition (conscious). Freud described thoughts in the preconscious as having crossed the threshold
from the unconscious mind, but not yet having caught the eye of consciousness (IL p366). The
preconscious is an important element in the dynamic between an individual s conscious intention and
their counter will, because it falls somewhere in the middle and may be the most manifested part of
the phenomenon. For instance, when a proper name is forgotten, this is a function of repression. The
individual unconsciously wants to forget one thing, but the counter will resists by forgetting another. It
is when a name is on the tip of the tongue but still unclear that countless other irrelevant names will
come to mind; these irrelevant names are the inhabitants of the preconscious. The case detailed in The
Psychopathology of Everyday Life, in which Freud discusses his own experience with the forgetting
of a proper name, is a good example of a clear analysis of the mechanism Freud saw behind this
phenomenon. He explains the situation, and will later go on to fully analyze its significance:
The name that

Essay on The Shawnee Tribe in Central Pennsylvania
The Shawnee Tribe in Central Pennsylvania
His name is Wautheeweela. It means Bright Horn, referring to horns on a deer. He is ten years old, and
ready to make his journey to prove his manhood. He and other boys from his Shawnee tribe have been
physically toughened and taught to be independent since an age of around six. In winters, they have
had to break the ice to jump into the freezing river to continue their daily routine of learning to survive
with Nature and its elements. Now will be his test of endurance. He is sent into the woods with a bow
and arrow and told not to come back until he had shot something to eat. His face is blackened with

The large buck comes out from behind a tree and shows itself. He pulls back his arrow. This is the
moment of truth for this young boy, a part of growing up in the Shawnee culture in central
Pennsylvania.
Central Pennsylvania was never known as to have been the permanent settlement for any large group
of Native Americans. It was more of a stop for traveling tribes or a place of refuge. The Cherokees
once passed through here in the early 17th century (Wallace, 1970). The Susquehannock Indians were
an Iroquois Indian tribe that settled the Susquehanna watershed before they migrated to Maryland,
near the Chesapeake Bay (Cadzow, 1936). The tribe that stayed the longest and had the most influence
on Central Pennsylvania was the Shawnee. The Shawnees were an Algonkian people whose original
home was most likely the Cumberland River in Tennessee. This southern position gave them the name
Shawnee, meaning southerners in the Algonkian language. The Shawnees split up often and moved
around a lot, they are noted to have lived in parts of Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and
Pennsylvania. Their first known appearance in Pennsylvania in great numbers was in 1697 (Harvey,
1855). The tribe had five main groups: Chillicothe, Kispokotha, Pique, Sawekela, and the Makostrake
(Johnson, 1937). These became so intermixed that they are now indistinguishable. The reasons for
these groups were mainly for political and ritual purposes and did not affect

Disney s Monopoly
Industry concentration. It s imperative to choose if there s really a danger of a Monopoly, before the
anti trust law takes any action. For those new to the idea, or the individuals who have constantly heard
it was a terrible thing while never knowing why, a Monopoly is thorough control of the whole supply
of products or of a company in a specific region or market, as indicated by Merriam Webster. This
doesn t generally characterize Disney. Disney does not control the rights to all film, TV, and
amusement establishments, nor does it deliberately step out the opposition. Disney is pursuing the
cream of the yield. Disney has dependably had complete knowledge of their audience requirements.
Disney knows precisely what a crowd of people needs even before they even dream of it. So it bodes
well that Disney is using geek culture as its most up to date promoting apparatus. On the off chance

Effects Of Extracurricular Activities Essay
Extracurricular activities refer to activities that provide opportunities for students to develop specific
skills or knowledge, and take place outside of school hours. Extracurricular activities offer
experiences of teamwork and support the development of many social, cognitive, and physical skills
of the students. By joining extracurricular activities, the students learn to manage their time, relieve
stress and learn to strive for excellence in more than one thing.
Extracurricular activities are found in all levels of our schools in many different forms. They can be

The positive effects that extracurricular activities have on students are behavior, better grades, school
completion, positive aspects to become successful adults, and a social aspect (Massoni, 2011).
Students that actively participate in extracurricular activities have reduced behavior problems. The
students who participate in extracurricular will show good self discipline. They also have
responsibility to perform the task correctly. When students perform these things correctly, they are
rewarded for their good behavior and they take pride in their accomplishments. Because of the pride
they achieve, they gain better self respect, self esteem, and self confidence.
The other effect of extracurricular activities for students is the social aspect. Students that are involved
in extracurricular activities meet many new people. By joining extracurricular activities, the students
will meet people that they share interests with. In extracurricular activities, students also learn about
group work, and sometimes they end up having less conformity to gender

Paramedic Personal Statement
A paramedic is one of the first healthcare professionals on the scene of an emergency. Using a variety
of lifesaving techniques, their job is to stabilise the patient for hospital transfer and definitive
treatment. This selfless way of life sparked my interest in front line emergency medicine and I have
sought out every opportunity to help me achieve my goal of becoming a paramedic.
Wishing to obtain a practical insight into administering first aid, I have studied towards and achieved
the St John s Youth First Aid and St John s Activity First Aid qualifications. To push myself further, I
have taught the St John s Youth First Aid course and the St John s Heart Start course for the last 3
years, alongside a paramedic. In order to gain a more practical experience, I joined a local First Aid
group, and achieved my First Aid at Work qualification. I have since provided first aid cover at several

Schubert s Symphony No. 9 in C major was composed between the spring of 1825 and the winter of
1826. The work was premiered in its entirety (minus a few cuts) on March 21, 1839, over 10 years
after the composer s death. Robert Schumann was the man largely responsible for the premiere, as he
had discovered the manuscript while on a visit to see Schubert s brother, Ferdinand. Schumann
entrusted his friend Felix Mendelssohn with the score and the task of bringing the music to the public,
offering the following sentiment: Here, besides sheer musical mastery of the technique of composition

Schubert not only handles an abundance of melodies with dexterity and innovation, but he also shows
his mastery of rhythmic variation and dynamic impact in the lively Allegro movement proper. The
beautifully contrasting second movement features a sonatina design with no real development. The six
rhythmic themes are presented in a strikingly systemic manner that highlights the movement s pure
architecture, a feature that makes it an important model throughout the 19th century. The spirit of the
Scherzo, in which Schubert follows the Venetian model, is in one word Beethovenian. In this
movement, one can hear far reaching harmonic trips (C major C# minor) as well as richly scored
dance tunes, which Schubert was known to often improvise at dances and gatherings. The last
movement of the work is an explosion of fearless energy and virtuosity. In a central episode, Schubert
incorporates an echo of Ode to Joy as homage to the great symphonic figurehead and his personal
hero, Beethoven. The resilience that can be heard in the intense jubilation and exhilaration of the
finale of his last symphony parallels Schubert s remarkable outlook on life until the very

Doctor-Patient Relationship Essay
More than just a diagnosis
To listen to personal stories of what it is like to be unwell is an incredible way for medical students
and doctors to learn about illness and gain firsthand insight into Whole person care . Earlier this year, I
got the opportunity as part of our ELM3 Healthcare in the Community (HIC) group to meet and learn
about a member of the community with a traumatic brain injury and her interactions with healthcare
professionals and personal journey towards recovery. An open discussion allowed us to learn about her
narrative, which provided many examples of the distinction between disease and illness and the
importance of a patient centered approach to healthcare.
This opportunity is one of many the Otago School of Medicine and its HIC programme have
organised to build a foundation and develop into becoming a well rounded and patient focused doctor.
It has allowed me to learn a vast amount about myself and certainly has expanded my views on the
importance of patient centered healthcare. This essay is a reflective piece where I will expand on the
story of Miss X and some specific learning experiences that have helped me appreciate the integrated
approach to the healing process of medicine as well as the importance of the doctor patient
relationship.
Approximately twelve years ago, at the age of twenty one, Miss X was involved in a motor vehicle
accident resulting in a traumatic brain injury and leaving her in a coma for nine and a half weeks.

The Coming Of Christianity And The Kingdom Of The Franks
The coming of Christianity to the kingdom of the Franks was likely the greatest shift of Frankish
ideology, going from the traditional pagan culture to the most powerful political and military system
in Western Europe famously rooted in biblical truths during the medieval period. With Christianity
being the foundation of the kingdom, both royals or peasants, clergy or laymen, and Christians and
pagans were to become subject the teachings of the Holy Scriptures and the establishment of the
Church. Whether a king or bishop, those within the influence of the Frankish kingdom were to uphold
and protect the religious orthodox and defer all who rejected it. The Frankish ideology, rather than
consistently changing, was more so a series of developments that both maintained the traditional
values of the early church and strengthened the expectations of the church based on the conflicts of
what was considered truth or heresy.
The rise of the Carolingians marked a major turning point for Frankish kingship that altered the
justification of authority from ancestral ties to divine acceptance. Before the Carolingian dynasty
began, the Merovingian dynasty ruled the Franks starting in the mid fifth century. As a dynasty, the
Merovingian rule foundationally stood upon the leadership of the royal family, in that no one outside
of the family could be at the head of the kingdom. However, the position of the mayor of the palace
had many responsibilities and other official daily tasks that

What Is X-Men The Last Stand Chapter Summary
In X Men: The Last Stand, Warren Worthington III, who just discovered is a mutant, tries to saw off

Warren, covered in blood and feathers, gets which would be considered caught in the act to the LGBT

not every homosexual individual wants to be cured because they feel that the cure could potentially
exterminate the homosexual race. Even though many mutants decide to keep their status hidden for
safety purposes, other mutants actually want to be normal , or straight, so much that they volunteer for
the cure having no knowledge of the risks (X Men: The Last Stand). Realizing what Warren is forced
to give up to become a straight individual in mainstream society, begins to give him second thoughts

This is a curious book; a text that in its physical production its writing, its publication and possibly

Fooled By Infatuation Summary
(Intro)Comic books have been around since the dawn of man. Mankind has been telling stories
without the use of technology, such as: typewriters, computers, or any paper material. There are cave
paintings around the world that date back thousands of years, which depict cavemen hunting animals
and depictions of animals within the caves. Women have also been included in the paintings not just
men since they also fed their families and hunted to keep them safe. In today s comic books, women
are represented as sexual objects, not as mature, strong, or as smart as men are depicted in the same
stories. Women appear in comics for the simple purpose of flaunting their bodies which boosts sales

For example, according to Dana Dutch from the collection of romance stories Romance without Tears,
Learning from the shortfalls and mistakes of a relationship is a salutary experience which will enable
women to do better the next time (9) In one of the short stories Fooled by Infatuation, for instance, a
girl loses her stability because of an obsession with another boy she finds she does not like. The
foolish or flamboyant acts committed by youngsters are a normal part of growing up. The notion is
that it does not matter if you are never caught; it is what you learn from the experience that counts. In

willing to do anything to win his heart. But it still feels as though these stories became repetitive and
have no new material to show for it. This can influence young readers that falling in love comes with a

Essay on Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Ethics of Dr. Heidegger s Experiment Have you ever read or heard about an experiment and
wondered whether it was ethical? In order for an experiment to be considered ethical, it must be in
accordance with the rules or standards for right conduct or practice ( Ethical ). In Nathaniel
Hawthorne s tale Dr. Heidegger s Experiment , Dr. Heidegger performs an experiment on four elderly
individuals that he claims are a little beside themselves (Hawthorne 138) and has them drink water
from the Fountain of Youth so they can become young again. He informs the participants that he is not
going to drink the water and will only watch the experiment. Dr. Heidegger does not clearly explain
his true purpose for completing the experiment, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the researcher breaks any one of these standards, then the experiment is considered unethical.
Hence, Heidegger s experiment is explicitly unethical. Dr. Heidegger breaks the ethical standard
regarding consent at the beginning of his experiment. At the beginning of the story, Hawthorne
introduces each of the characters and claims they are all a little besides themselves as is not
unfrequently the case with old people, when worried either by present troubles of woful recollections
(Hawthorne 138). The quotation explains that both Dr. Heidegger and his guests are elderly people
dealing with problems from their present or past, and consequently, are almost out of their senses (
Besides ). Hawthorne s reference to the characters in this manner causes the reader to question the
characters mental stability. If the characters are out of there senses , they would not be able to clearly
decide whether they want to participate in an experiment. Therefore, Dr. Heidegger s four guests are
not at their full mental capacity and cannot clearly make proper choices. It is unethical for Dr.
Heidegger to allow his four guests to decide whether or not to participate in the experiment because
they are unaware and confused about what is occurring. As Dr. Heidegger continues to describe his
experiment, he keeps his participants uninformed of what will happen in the

Summary Of The 6 Bases Of Power Dunigan
My interpretation of the 6 bases of power from Jack Dunigan are as follow,
Official power Is an office or position and it gives the person the authority to exercise power
Transactional power is a person who has a high position in the chain of command or is looked upon as
someone with authority. Coercive power is having the ability to penalize or punish others if what was

understanding that there is a goal or tasked that needs to be accomplished or completed and the person
is also able to find a solution to a problem and ultimately knowing what the problem is and what needs
to get done to fix it. Charismatic power Is being well known and having a positive reputation follow
your journey giving the perception that you know what you are doing one might be consider it being
held up on a pedestal. Principle centered power Is the ability to inspire and motivate others and
encourage another to act on a decision or idea. (Dunigan, 2013).

Islam And The Religious Beliefs Of Islam
Islam is an extremely pervasive and widely known religion that has greatly affected society and its
independent religious views. The Islam ideology and its numerous ideas rapidly and widely, and
quickly became a prevalent religion with significantly influential aspects and elements. For instance,
its focus on Allah, the Arabic word of God, as well as many other Islam spiritual aspects has taken
effect in many countries, and continues to influence many people as well as the religious ideas of other
spiritual paths. People gravitate towards the concept of how spiritual theory developed from a small,
insignificant community could have so rapidly become a renowned, crucial part of life for much of the
world s population. Retaining its emphasis on an uncompromising monotheism and a strict adherence
to certain essential religious practices,
Islam continues to influence society with its unique elements and divine inspired unity of mankind.
The numerous Islamic trade routes surrounding Mecca served as effective ways of spreading religious
Islam ideas through various routes and courses in which people could record
Islamic spiritual views. For example, in document A, main Islam areas such as Mecca and
Medina are in the center of many main countries and empires, such as the Byzantine Empire
Knight 2 and Persia. Because of Arabia s location, people could come to its Islamic areas by trade, and
see where Islam originated from as well as its diverse religious notions and intentions.

The Three Types Of Embryonic Stem Cells
1. The three types of stem cells are embryonic stem cells, somatic cells, and induced pluripotent
steams cells, also known as iPS cells. Each has at least one advantage and one disadvantage. The
advantage of embryonic stem cells is that they are not differentiated, meaning that they have not yet
been specialized to function in just one area or purpose in the body. The disadvantage is that the use of
these types of stem cells is very controversial, as the blastocyst they are derived from is the basic
beginnings of human life. Somatic cells are adult stem cells, which can include any cell except for
reproductive germ cells. Unlike embryonic stem cells, there is much less controversy in their use and
good chance that the body will not reject these new cells. The disadvantage is that ... Show more

In addition, these cells could contain unknown mutations for disease that will later affect the host
body. The latest in stem cells is iPS. They are genetically reprogrammed somatic cells that take on the
properties of embryonic stem cells. Once again, there is less controversy, and they are more readily
available to harvest than embryonic stem cells. One drawback is, as I previously mentioned, that this
is a relatively new biotechnology. Research is still ongoing and some of the techniques that are
currently being used to produce cells have created tumors in the host.
2. The product that will result by genetically modifying this organism s genome is known as a
recombinant protein. The process will combine the human protein with a vector, a specific DNA
molecule, which will transport the genetic material. This procedure will use a bacterial plasmid. The

Similarities Between 30s And 70s
Of all the decades in the history of the United States, few experienced comparable growth to that of
the 1920s and 1990s. I believe these two decades, while 70 years apart, display similarities in terms of
economic growth, and subsequent downturn. While there can be no real obvious similarities between
entire decades, economic similarities are apparent but not identical in timeline or structure, and can be
found by looking at the behavior of each period s respective stock markets and that of their
consumers. Over the next few pages I intend to discuss some of the key highlights of these decades
and compare their economic and political similarities. The main similarities between the 20s and 90s

More importantly however, the economic boom of the 20s is in large part a result of the invention of
the automobile. Because of their affordability, by the end of the decade there was one car per every

Land Masses Case Study
Arranging the world based upon the organizations land masses are a part of has many strengths.
Firstly, land would not be as divided, compared to the current countries that make up our world. For
example in my map, all the Southeast Asian nations and Australia are grouped together as one country.
This eliminates possible political arguments between the land masses because they all share one
government. Another benefit of having the world organized this way is that it allows for the spread of
resources and helps trade flourish. For example, Africa and the Arab nations are grouped together as
one country. This means that resources, specifically oil, can easily move throughout the country to
reach part of Africa that would normally not benefit

Analysis Of The BookThe Jungle, By Upton Sinclair
Sometimes, your own actions can cause your own pain. One good example of this is The Jungle. The
Jungle, by Upton Sinclair, was written in 1906 and is about an immigrant family, the most important
Jurgis and Ona who come to America, hoping to find freedom, liberty, and most importantly, a job, as
well as Jurgis looking to marry Ona. However, they soon find out that that they are being deceived at
every turn, and their lives are worse than before. It is clear that Jurgis is one of the main protagonists,
and while Jurgis and his family are exploited by the bosses , Jurgis is usually the cause of his own
pain, and is his own antagonist. This is unique among books, because the author doesn t usually want
the reader to feel too much pity for the protagonist, but that is exactly what happens in The Jungle.
The most significant ways this happens to Jurgis is by him not listening to other workers at
Packingtown, when he attacked Ona s boss, and when he joined the criminal world.
First, Jurgis caused his own distress by not listening to other workers. These workers had been at
Packingtown far longer that Jurgis, and they knew the truth. They knew about the debt and loss that
comes after working in Packingtown, and they tried to tell Jurgis his was going to come crashing
down at some point. But still Jurgis did not listen. It was after his first day at work that he began to
realize, with a sinking feeling, that perhaps the other workers were right, saying When he came home
that night he was in a very sombre mood, having begun to see at last how those might be right who
had laughed at him for his faith in America (Sinclair 72). Jurgis was beginning to see that the others
were right, and yet he still didn t listen, and kept going with job. Shortly after, he gets pulled into debt
and can no longer escape. Jurgis was his own enemy, taking the bait of the trap, even when everyone
told him not to.
Second, the most evident way Jurgis was his own antagonist was when he attacked Ona s boss. By this
time, he was married to Ona, and she was very dear to him. So when her boss blackmails Ona into
obeying his every command, no matter how demoralized it may be, Jurgis gets very angry, so he goes
and attacks her boss. The people

Essay on Poetry Analysis
In the poem An Echo Sonnet , author Robert Pack writes of a conversation between a person s voice
and its echo. With the use of numerous literary techniques, Pack is able to enhance the meaning of the
poem: that we must depend on ourselves for answers because other opinions are just echoes of our
own ideas.
At first glance, the reader notices that the poem is divided into two parts in order to resemble a
conversation. When reading the sonnet for the first time the reader may make the mistake in thinking
that what the echo replies is an answer to the questions the voice asks. But in reality the echo isn t
replying to the voice but is actually performing its normal job. The echo only repeats back the last
prominent sounds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This occurs on line 5, where the author depends on imagery to enlighten us. The line reads leaf
blooms, burns red before delighted eyes , the blooming or opening of leaves is a direct parallel to
humans opening up their minds in order to learn something new. But at the end of the line we notice
that the leaf itself dies, the poet uses the dying leaf as a parallel to our former ideas dying. Because our
minds were opened up to something new, whatever former opinion we had died off when new
information on a subject is presented. This is just one part of the learning process so Pack separates it
from the other parts with the use of a comma. After the comma, comes the action of understanding the
information presented to us. Whatever the reader sees is burning red and their eyes are left delighted
which means the onlooker took interest to what they saw developing before them. Pack uses this line
filled with imagery in order to set a precedent to his readers. He wants us to open our minds to the
meaning of the poem and that fact we can find all answers in our own questions if we only depend on
ourselves.
While reading the poem a second time over the audience notices a very controlled rhyme scheme. The
poem consists of a rhyme scheme of A,B,A,B,C,D,C,D ... until we reach the last two lines of the poem
where Line 13 rhymes directly with Line 14. It is worth to note that the author doesn t follow through

My Dreaded Enemy, My Dearest Friend
My Dreaded Enemy, My Dearest Friend
On a cold Sunday morning in February, I woke up dreading the day. I had an essay to write, three

Mikayla? Mikayla, can you hear me?
The harsh, bright lights of my bathroom burned my retinas and a man I didn t recognize came into
focus. He looked like the perfect beach: hair the color of sand and eyes the color of seawater. At first, I
thought he was an angel coming to save me. In a way, I guess he was. His navy blue shirt had a crest
and the letters E M T embroidered on the pocket. The tile was as cold as ice. Although it was my
bathroom that I had been in a million times, everything felt foreign. I must have zoned out, I thought.
Yeah, I can hear you, I whispered. I didn t even want to look him in the eyes. My right forearm, leg,
and fingers were crusted with dark crimson blood. What happened? The flash of a fresh razor blade
suddenly sliced through my fuzzy and confused thoughts. Oh. The man quietly wrapped my arm in
gauze. I could hear another man talking to my mom just beyond the bathroom door. She definitely
knows how to take care of things like this. She s managed to stop the bleeding for now, but it may
need stitches. There I sat, curled up in a ball of protection, shame, and fear while they discussed what

The Interaction Of Cognitive Therapy
The Interaction to Cognitive Therapy (ICS) Study An accruing relapse of depression is hard to
overcome nevertheless; preventing these relapses is the key. The length of depression constitutes a
major problem in the treatment of depression. However, many evidences suggest that psychological
treatments have been withdrawn to the many treatment trials that have been found in cognitive therapy
such as drugs or different types of therapy that defends against depression. The preventive
interventions such as the drugs operate through effects in changing the patterns of the cognitive
processing that becomes active in mild negative side effects (Teasdale, Segal, Williams, 1995, p.25).
The goal of any treatment is to reduce relapses and the recurrence in patients who have recovered

another event that happens in your day. More than roughly forty percent of all men who participated
and died in the war were killed by snipers. For 15 year old Sean Patrick, this was the horrifying reality
he had to face. Shot through the neck by a German sniper, he writhed on the ground in pain for a few

Symbolism In The Swimmer By John Cheever
By the time the alcohol touches the tongue, the storm has already begun. John Cheever s relationship
with alcohol presents itself throughout the short story The Swimmer , and uses the character, Ned
Merrill, to represent the struggles he was experiencing. Addiction and the need for alcohol drove this
character into a storm he couldn t retreat from. In The Swimmer Cheever uses a physical storm and
the changes in the weather to show the path of drinking and becoming an alcoholic. The short story
begins with joy and excitement, then turns into something casual and frequent, but eventually leads to
misfortune and a misery. Nobody desires to be led to an unpleasant storm, that comes with drinking
alcohol. Cheever uses nature and the storms to represent the life of an alcoholic.
Drinking may not seem to be so bad at first, but the consequences come later in the journey. John
Cheever begins this short story with an initial sign of casual drinking. Ned Merrill and his wife are
accompanied by friends who all say they drank too much last night as if they were all drinking
together (Cheever 726). Right from the beginning, Cheever gives readers the hint that characters from
this story drink a lot. He makes it a part of the social norm, so it seems to be something done on the
regular. Before Ned decides to begin a journey to swim the Lucinda River, he notices the weather.
Cheever directs the focus to the fact that it was a fine day. In the west there was a massive stand of
cumulus cloud so like a city seen from a distance , marking the beginning of the storm (726). Looking
into the West, a place of death and misfortune, are where fluffy and cotton like clouds are on display.
In literature, the West is often symbolic of death and dying since the sun sets over that horizon. A time
where leaves and plants die, and the start of darkness. Those clouds may look peaceful, but they
represent the beginning of a storm coming from the disastrous West.
Eventually, the fun and laughter turn into something normal and boring, and drinking more serves to
reanimate his social interactions. Unfortunately, those problems are only gone for a little while, and
Ned Merrill finds this out the hard way by continuing his journey. Each house

Maxine Hong Kingston s `` No Name Woman ``
Being an author of several praised works, Maxine Hong Kingston has been deemed a noteworthy
American writer since her first book debuted. Her unique style and interesting blend of myth and truth
in memoir form garnered her international attention and won her several awards. Kingston s works
have put heavy emphasis on her family history and her experiences as a Chinese American, so it is no
surprise that she has been received well by many and misunderstood by others at the same time. A
discussion on one of her most popular works, No Name Woman , and a look at the different ways
Kingston s works have been interpreted should reveal how literature can have different meanings
depending on what one is looking for.
Kingston was born in October of 1940 in the Californian city of Stockton and since her parents were

Kingston s parents, as her father went from teaching to working in a gambling house and her mother

The University Of The Ozarks
The Student Government Association, a student lead organization aimed to improve the campus
community, has established several goals they would like to accomplish during the current school
year, 2015 2016. In order to determine these goals and objectives, two detailed persona profiles were
created which provided the association with a better understanding of their audiences and how to best
communicate with them. The publics were divided into two groups, students pertaining to the senate
and students pertaining to the student body. Therefore, the next stage consists in performing research
regarding the goals SGA has established by conducting surveys and focus groups on campus. As
mentioned previously, SGA works closely with two different publics. The first and primary publics are
the officers and senators of the association, whereas the second publics consist of the rest of the
student body at the University of the Ozarks. The characteristic which differentiate the first from the
second public is that senators and officers work as the intermediary between the student body and the
Board of Trustee and President. Nonetheless, both persona profiles describe students that are involved
in the various campus activities and show interest in the different school related affairs. These types of
students do not sit back and blindly accept the changes made on campus, but actively take part in the
decisions making role. Although the final decisions or outcomes might not always follow the

  • 2. Essay On The Eucharist When one thinks of the Eucharist, they might think that it is just Christ s Body and Blood, and after we receive it, we can go along doing our own thing. That is false. You see, the Eucharist is not just something you receive on Sunday, and forget about; it is more than that. We are called to perform services in the world and in our communities because of the Eucharist. This paper is about what we are called to do after we receive the Eucharist, and what we as Catholics should be doing already. The Eucharist enables us to come together as a Church every Sunday, and sometimes more often than that. It also unites us with the angels in heaven and the deceased, which enables all of God s people to participate in the celebration of Jesus s sacrifice. As Catholics, we never really worship alone. At the Eucharistic Liturgy, we gather with the young and old, the rich and poor, as well as millions around the world and the saints in heaven, to celebrate Christ s sacrifice (Body of Christ, Broken for the World). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One soon begins to realize that all people are children of God and need to be treated equally with dignity and respect, no matter what their race, social status, etc. Let me remind you: this is because of the Eucharist. The Eucharist educates us to this love in a deeper way; it shows us, in fact, what value each person, our brother or sister, has in God s eyes, if Christ offers Himself equally to each one, under the species of bread and wine. If our Eucharistic worship is authentic, it must make us grow in awareness of the dignity of each person. The awareness of that dignity becomes the deepest motive of our relationship with our neighbor (Dominicae Cenae, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Epidemiology Is The Branch Of Medicine Epidemiology Epidemiology is the branch of medicine that deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible control of diseases and other factors relating to health (Schneider, 8). In 1847, a Viennese obstetrician by the name of Ignac Semmelweis discovered the importance of handwashing in a hospital setting (Gawande, 15). Before the discovery of antibiotics, childbed fever was the number one cause of maternal death in childbirth. Semmelweis realized by not washing their hands, doctors were the ones responsible for carrying the bacteria that caused the fever from mother to mother. After implementing strict hand washing rules the death rate of mothers decreased from 20% to 1% almost overnight (Gawande, 15). Discoveries like the one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientists have yet to discover what exactly causes BSE but the leading theory is that it is caused by prions infectious agents made entirely out of protein that are usually found in the brain and spinal cord and can only currently be treated if caught before symptoms arise. Humans that eat infected meat may be infected with Creutzfeldt Jakob disease which causes brain lesions that ultimately kill the infected. Another important function of epidemiology is the control of disease. Epidemiologists are tasked with researching and creating vaccines. A vaccine is a substance used to kickstart the production of antibodies and help build a resistance to one or several diseases, created from a part of the existing disease or a man made substance. To create the vaccines scientists have to do thousands of hours of research and testing. There are many different types of vaccines; some deactivate the disease, some weaken it, and some even use a piece of the bacteria or virus to counteract its ill effects. If a vaccine cannot be found epidemiologists can use the factors that facilitate the transmission of the disease also known as determinants of the disease ,such as where it is spreading and the medium it uses to travel , to keep it from spreading. An example of a disease without a vaccine but with clear determinants is HIV. Epidemiologist do not only work with diseases that are infectious they also work with chronic ... • 4. The Jim Crow Laws From the end of Reconstruction in 1877 to the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement in 1954, laws were in place that enforced racial segregation (referred to as Jim Crow laws). Beginning in the late 1870s , Southern state legislatures, which were no longer under the control of freedmen and carpetbaggers, passed legislation that required whites to be separated from persons of colour in schools and public transportation, which was anyone who was strongly suspected of black ancestry. Along with this, the segregation principle extended to theatres, restaurants, cemeteries, and parks in an attempt to prevent contact between whites and blacks as equal members of society. At the state and local level, it was codified and in the infamous U.S. Supreme Court case Plessy v. Ferguson. On June 7, 1892, Homer Plessy bought a first class ticket to Covington at the Press Street Depot in New Orleans. After telling the conductor that he was a colored man , the former asked him to move to the coloured car, but the latter refused because he exclaimed that he was an American citizen and that he intends to ride to Covington. Soon afterward, Plessy was arrested and dragged off of the train. Four months after his arrest, Plessy s attorneys entered a plea claiming that Louisiana s Separate Car Act, which Plessy violated, was unconstitutional. Consequently, this would mean that the court didn t have the jurisdiction to hear or determine all of the facts. Also, his attorneys claimed that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Frank Norris s Mcteague Since the beginning of time, humans like animals, possess certain innate behaviors that both are naturally born with. For example, animals are born, taken care of and spend their life making sure they have enough food in order to survive and in the end, reproduce. Similarly, humans also possess a natural instinct to survive, consume, and reproduce in order to keep this on going cycle alive. The comparison between humans and animals at time may disturb certain people due to the simplification and degradation of the human race. However, it is this naturalistic view in life that certain individuals believe should not be shielded from the public in order to protect people and instead, believe it is necessary to educate as many people possible in the reasoning and acceptance of mankind s innate actions. The novel McTeague, written by Frank Norris, is a book that demonstrates an individual s natural behaviors and desires which continues to be carried out by people today just as it has been since the beginning of time. It is through McTeague, that Frank Norris illustrates mankind s naturalistic behavior that not only grabs the attention of the readers but infuriates the public as well. Benjamin Franklin Norris, otherwise known as Frank Norris was born on March 5, 1870 in Chicago, Illinois. Throughout his life, Frank Norris attended school in Paris, the University of California, and Harvard University which would later benefit him by establishing relationships which would ... Funding per student in South Dakota is significantly lower than the national amount, as well as the amount surrounding states give per student. In fact, according to the South Dakota Budget and Policy Institute funding per student is $2,000 less in South Dakota than the national average, and surrounding states give about $5,000 more per student than South Dakota. Freud s Views on Forgetting a Proper Name and Dream Analysis In several of his books, including Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis and On Dreams, Freud combines the topics of forgetting a proper name and dream analysis, formulating a thesis that helps to clarify his theories on both. He describes in psychoanalytic terms the mechanisms behind forgetting of a proper name and how they relate to the methods used in dream analysis. By looking at the two topics from a joint perspective, we can gain a greater understanding of them and how they relate to other areas of psychoanalysis. The tendency toward forgetting of a proper name is an important theme in Freud s work. He explained the way in which forgetting something like a name ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Or again: there are cases in which the parapraxes multiply, form chains, and replace one another #8230; (ILp 35 36) It is in this line that understanding the preconscious becomes important. Preconscious describes a division of the mind that falls in between repression (unconscious) and recognition (conscious). Freud described thoughts in the preconscious as having crossed the threshold from the unconscious mind, but not yet having caught the eye of consciousness (IL p366). The preconscious is an important element in the dynamic between an individual s conscious intention and their counter will, because it falls somewhere in the middle and may be the most manifested part of the phenomenon. For instance, when a proper name is forgotten, this is a function of repression. The individual unconsciously wants to forget one thing, but the counter will resists by forgetting another. It is when a name is on the tip of the tongue but still unclear that countless other irrelevant names will come to mind; these irrelevant names are the inhabitants of the preconscious. The case detailed in The Psychopathology of Everyday Life, in which Freud discusses his own experience with the forgetting of a proper name, is a good example of a clear analysis of the mechanism Freud saw behind this phenomenon. He explains the situation, and will later go on to fully analyze its significance: The name that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is the moment of truth for this young boy, a part of growing up in the Shawnee culture in central Pennsylvania. Central Pennsylvania was never known as to have been the permanent settlement for any large group of Native Americans. It was more of a stop for traveling tribes or a place of refuge. The Cherokees once passed through here in the early 17th century (Wallace, 1970). The Susquehannock Indians were an Iroquois Indian tribe that settled the Susquehanna watershed before they migrated to Maryland, near the Chesapeake Bay (Cadzow, 1936). The tribe that stayed the longest and had the most influence on Central Pennsylvania was the Shawnee. The Shawnees were an Algonkian people whose original home was most likely the Cumberland River in Tennessee. This southern position gave them the name Shawnee, meaning southerners in the Algonkian language. The Shawnees split up often and moved around a lot, they are noted to have lived in parts of Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The spirit of the Scherzo, in which Schubert follows the Venetian model, is in one word Beethovenian. In this movement, one can hear far reaching harmonic trips (C major C# minor) as well as richly scored dance tunes, which Schubert was known to often improvise at dances and gatherings. The Coming Of Christianity And The Kingdom Of The Franks The coming of Christianity to the kingdom of the Franks was likely the greatest shift of Frankish ideology, going from the traditional pagan culture to the most powerful political and military system in Western Europe famously rooted in biblical truths during the medieval period. With Christianity being the foundation of the kingdom, both royals or peasants, clergy or laymen, and Christians and pagans were to become subject the teachings of the Holy Scriptures and the establishment of the Church. The quotation explains that both Dr. Heidegger and his guests are elderly people dealing with problems from their present or past, and consequently, are almost out of their senses ( Besides ). Firstly, land would not be as divided, compared to the current countries that make up our world. For example in my map, all the Southeast Asian nations and Australia are grouped together as one country. This eliminates possible political arguments between the land masses because they all share one government. Another benefit of having the world organized this way is that it allows for the spread of resources and helps trade flourish. For example, Africa and the Arab nations are grouped together as one country. Is a merger still a merger when the respective sizes of the firms are ninety percent and ten percent? Is it just an acquisition, where the ten percent should quietly accept the culture of the ninety percent? Whether you call it a merger or an acquisition, each firm has its own culture, and the smaller entity, if substantially different from the one around it, will continue to survive as a discordant subculture, unless an effort is made to integrate all the players. Frequent mergers leave little opportunity for establishing a value added firm culture. The surviving firm s culture is absorption, which sooner or later like overeating will probably be self destructive. If we truly believe that people are our most important asset we need to treat them that way. • 32. Analysis Of The BookThe Jungle, By Upton Sinclair Sometimes, your own actions can cause your own pain. One good example of this is The Jungle. The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair, was written in 1906 and is about an immigrant family, the most important Jurgis and Ona who come to America, hoping to find freedom, liberty, and most importantly, a job, as well as Jurgis looking to marry Ona. However, they soon find out that that they are being deceived at every turn, and their lives are worse than before. It is clear that Jurgis is one of the main protagonists, and while Jurgis and his family are exploited by the bosses , Jurgis is usually the cause of his own pain, and is his own antagonist. This is unique among books, because the author doesn t usually want the reader to feel too much pity for the protagonist, but that is exactly what happens in The Jungle. The most significant ways this happens to Jurgis is by him not listening to other workers at Packingtown, when he attacked Ona s boss, and when he joined the criminal world. First, Jurgis caused his own distress by not listening to other workers. These workers had been at Packingtown far longer that Jurgis, and they knew the truth. They knew about the debt and loss that comes after working in Packingtown, and they tried to tell Jurgis his was going to come crashing down at some point. But still Jurgis did not listen. It was after his first day at work that he began to realize, with a sinking feeling, that perhaps the other workers were right, saying When he came home that night he was in a very sombre mood, having begun to see at last how those might be right who had laughed at him for his faith in America (Sinclair 72). Jurgis was beginning to see that the others were right, and yet he still didn t listen, and kept going with job. Shortly after, he gets pulled into debt and can no longer escape. Jurgis was his own enemy, taking the bait of the trap, even when everyone told him not to. Second, the most evident way Jurgis was his own antagonist was when he attacked Ona s boss. By this time, he was married to Ona, and she was very dear to him. So when her boss blackmails Ona into obeying his every command, no matter how demoralized it may be, Jurgis gets very angry, so he goes and attacks her boss. The people ... • 33. Essay on Poetry Analysis In the poem An Echo Sonnet , author Robert Pack writes of a conversation between a person s voice and its echo. With the use of numerous literary techniques, Pack is able to enhance the meaning of the poem: that we must depend on ourselves for answers because other opinions are just echoes of our own ideas. At first glance, the reader notices that the poem is divided into two parts in order to resemble a conversation. When reading the sonnet for the first time the reader may make the mistake in thinking that what the echo replies is an answer to the questions the voice asks. But in reality the echo isn t replying to the voice but is actually performing its normal job. The echo only repeats back the last prominent sounds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This occurs on line 5, where the author depends on imagery to enlighten us. The line reads leaf blooms, burns red before delighted eyes , the blooming or opening of leaves is a direct parallel to humans opening up their minds in order to learn something new. But at the end of the line we notice that the leaf itself dies, the poet uses the dying leaf as a parallel to our former ideas dying. Because our minds were opened up to something new, whatever former opinion we had died off when new information on a subject is presented. This is just one part of the learning process so Pack separates it from the other parts with the use of a comma. After the comma, comes the action of understanding the information presented to us. Whatever the reader sees is burning red and their eyes are left delighted which means the onlooker took interest to what they saw developing before them. Pack uses this line filled with imagery in order to set a precedent to his readers. He wants us to open our minds to the meaning of the poem and that fact we can find all answers in our own questions if we only depend on ourselves. While reading the poem a second time over the audience notices a very controlled rhyme scheme. • 34. My Dreaded Enemy, My Dearest Friend My Dreaded Enemy, My Dearest Friend On a cold Sunday morning in February, I woke up dreading the day. I had an essay to write, three pages of math homework to do, and two biology packets to copy. Four days later I would be having lunch with my mom, none of my homework done, telling her about the past three days I lived without her. *** Mikayla? Mikayla, can you hear me? The harsh, bright lights of my bathroom burned my retinas and a man I didn t recognize came into focus. He looked like the perfect beach: hair the color of sand and eyes the color of seawater. At first, I thought he was an angel coming to save me. In a way, I guess he was. His navy blue shirt had a crest and the letters E M T embroidered on the pocket. The tile was as cold as ice. Although it was my bathroom that I had been in a million times, everything felt foreign. I must have zoned out, I thought. Yeah, I can hear you, I whispered. I didn t even want to look him in the eyes. My right forearm, leg, and fingers were crusted with dark crimson blood. What happened? The flash of a fresh razor blade suddenly sliced through my fuzzy and confused thoughts. Oh. The man quietly wrapped my arm in gauze. I could hear another man talking to my mom just beyond the bathroom door. She definitely knows how to take care of things like this. • 37. Symbolism In The Swimmer By John Cheever By the time the alcohol touches the tongue, the storm has already begun. John Cheever s relationship with alcohol presents itself throughout the short story The Swimmer , and uses the character, Ned Merrill, to represent the struggles he was experiencing. Addiction and the need for alcohol drove this character into a storm he couldn t retreat from. In The Swimmer Cheever uses a physical storm and the changes in the weather to show the path of drinking and becoming an alcoholic. The short story begins with joy and excitement, then turns into something casual and frequent, but eventually leads to misfortune and a misery. Nobody desires to be led to an unpleasant storm, that comes with drinking alcohol. Cheever uses nature and the storms to represent the life of an alcoholic. Drinking may not seem to be so bad at first, but the consequences come later in the journey. John Cheever begins this short story with an initial sign of casual drinking. Ned Merrill and his wife are accompanied by friends who all say they drank too much last night as if they were all drinking together (Cheever 726). Right from the beginning, Cheever gives readers the hint that characters from this story drink a lot. He makes it a part of the social norm, so it seems to be something done on the regular. Before Ned decides to begin a journey to swim the Lucinda River, he notices the weather. Cheever directs the focus to the fact that it was a fine day. In the west there was a massive stand of cumulus cloud so like a city seen from a distance , marking the beginning of the storm (726). Looking into the West, a place of death and misfortune, are where fluffy and cotton like clouds are on display. In literature, the West is often symbolic of death and dying since the sun sets over that horizon. A time where leaves and plants die, and the start of darkness. Those clouds may look peaceful, but they represent the beginning of a storm coming from the disastrous West. Eventually, the fun and laughter turn into something normal and boring, and drinking more serves to reanimate his social interactions. Unfortunately, those problems are only gone for a little while, and Ned Merrill finds this out the hard way by continuing his journey. Each house ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
