Descriptive Essay On Animals
On October 19th 2017, my classmates and I had the opportunity to visit the Lamar Bruni Vergara
Environmental Center. During our visit, we toured the facility and were privileged to have an
employee inform us on the grand diversity of the species found in our region. Throughout the tour, we
observed and discussed a variety of animals, however in this paper I decided to focus on five: The first
species we encountered during our tour was a bobcat or Lynx rufus. The bobcat s phylum is chordata
and from the class mammalia. It belongs to the order carnivora, which consists of meat eating
organisms. The bobcat then falls under the family, felidae commonly referred to as the family of cats.
Found all throughout North America, from southern Canada to central Mexico, the bobcats can live in
habitats like mountain ranges, prairies, and deserts. These habitats are favorable to bobcats because
they can camouflage with their environment and have more success as hunters. Bobcats are known for
their brown reddish coat with black spots and a few stripes. Apart from their coat which allows them
to camouflage, bobcats are also efficient hunters because of their speed and intelligence. When
approaching its prey, a bobcats tends to creep on its victim and attack once it is close enough. Using
its sharp teeth, claws, and strength, this wildcat can kill prey much larger than its size. Their diet
consists of mostly rabbits, hares, and mice. Aside from those animals, bobcats sometimes prey on

Dr. Shamis s Website And Credentials Stood Out The Most
After combing through various possible interviewees, Dr. Shamis s website and credentials stood out
the most. First, contact was made with the office receptionist who passed on Dr. Shamis s personal
cell phone number. Text messages were exchanged with Dr. Shamis since he was busy with patients.
He agreed to meet at his office, and this was where the interview took place. After being introduced to
Dr. Shamis a brief conversation was had. At the start of the interview, it was asked of Dr. Shamis to
provide information about himself and his practice. He responded with I am a licensed clinical
psychologist in the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania (B. Shamis, personal communication, July
6, 2016) He then explained the types of therapies he is proficient in, his educational background, and
how he formed his practice.
Once rapport was established with Dr. Shamis the rest of the interview focused on writing within the
social sciences. The next question asked of Dr. Shamis was Compared to your undergraduate studies,
was there a significant increase in the amount of writing expected from you upon the entrance of
graduate school? His answer included personal accounts of his time spent in graduate school, along
with specific types of writing a graduate student might encounter. According to Dr. Shamis, a student
interested in attending graduate school for psychology should be prepared to write: handwritten
manuscripts during client interviews, research proposals, and

Labeling Of Genetically Engineered Food
Labeling Genetically Engineered Foods
A popular debate in the United States that s been ongoing since 1990, is the labeling on Genetically
Modified or Engineered foods otherwise known as GMO s. Genetically engineered food is an
unnatural process of plant or meat products. These two products have had their DNA artificially
altered in a laboratory by genes from other plants, animals, viruses, or bacteria to produce foreign
genes in food. Monsanto, an agriculture company, claims the reason behind this experimental genetic
alteration was said to produce a multiplying supply to feed the world. Nevertheless, Americans are in
a debate with the government to label genetically engineered food due to several reasons. Labeling
genetically engineered ingredients will help consumers determine which products they decide to
consume. The FDA published a policy that states they do not require labeling of GMO foods.
Americans and people all over the world feel that they should have the right to know what they are
purchasing and consuming due to a list of health, environmental, ethical, and religious reasons.
People all over the world have a right to know what they are purchasing and consuming. The US
government thinks otherwise. There have been no conclusive studies that show that genetically
modified foods are safe to consume. The US Food and Drug Administration does not think it s
necessary to require safety studies for genetically engineered foods. The article About GE Food

Compare And Contrast Calvin And Hobbes
Have you ever heard of the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes? If not, there s probably a good reason
why. Calvin and Hobbes was written and illustrated by Bill Watterson, and was one of the most
influential comic strips of the 1980s and 90s. This strip showed childhood as it really is. As the strip s
popularity increased, Bill Watterson started to fight a war with his syndicate behind the scenes. This
battle was about licensing. Bill Watterson did not want to license Calvin and Hobbes because he
believed that licensing cheapens the original creation, does not respect the original comic, and makes a
strip lose its integrity.
Calvin and Hobbes is a comic strip that ran from 1985 to 1995 that follows the friendship of a little

Deterrence Crime Rate
Sean Fitzgerald
Crime Rate of Children Affected by Domestic Violence Domestic violence has been a large problem
for as long as societies have been around, but more recently in the past century, it has received more
attention. The part of domestic violence that has gotten the largest amount of awareness is the act of
spousal abuse. Between 600,000 and six million women and between 100,000 and six million men are
victims of domestic abuse each year. Of course this is paralleled by the effect on children. For every
family household that a spouse is abused in, if there is a child there is a large chance that the he or she
will be affected by the incident. It is estimated that about 3.3 million children will witness some type
of domestic abuse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shaming is a deliberate effort to attach a negative meaning to a behavior. Deterrence is a measure that
prevents a person from doing something because of fear of the consequences. Shaming will help
establish a norm for a small group of people, but for most people who feel the need to break norms of
society shaming will not be very effective. Deterrence will be much more effective in preventing
people from committing crimes. There are two types of deterrence: general deterrence and specific
deterrence. General deterrence applies to the general population that helps ensure that they will not
commit crimes in the future. It is the fear of experiencing consequences that have been applied to
others who have committed the crime. This is the primary method of preventing crime in the world to
create a fear of having negative sanctions brought onto a person if they fail to follow the norms set out
by society. Specific deterrence on the other hand is the changing of the attitude of individuals who
have been or are still being punished by the law, to deter them from committing crime again. Specific
deterrence is effective, but still flawed as evident by the high recidivist rate. One of the most important
sociological topics is the differential association theory. This theory was created by Edwin Sutherland
and he states that criminal behavior that violates society s norms is learned. A person learns to commit
deviant behavior through his or her environment, primarily through communication. A person learns
not only how to commit the crime, but also the mindset of how to commit the crime. The learning
process that comes with crime is the same as any other learned idea, it is usually developed through
small intimate groups of people that help shape one s perception of the world. A person often will see
a law as being unfavorable to their previous dispositions and feel a need to

Inside Rap Music Essay
Inside Rap Music
Music, like mass media and television, has such a powerful influence on our society. People think rap
music is very negative towards society, which is not the case. Rappers teach people about possible
consequences a person may encounter if they choose the same route. Rappers tell their life experience
through their songs. Rap music does not influence violence; it educates people on what is going on in
the lives of urban people. When someone mentions rap music, the first thing some people think is
violence, sex, and drugs, negative, and worthless music. There are a number of rappers that do and sell
drugs, live the crime life, and do jail time. The message that rappers send to their listeners is the
realities of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He sings about being a bastard child in the ghetto, not having enough food to eat, how he turned to
crime, and how he spent most of his life burying his peers. In a son call Smile he tells the listeners to,
keep their head up... and if they believe, they can achieve. (Scarface) In a call Niggaz Done Change he
tells the listeners about his life and the song also tells how, [Tupac was] shot and murdered. (2Pac)
The moral of the song was that if a person lives that lifestyle the out come could be death. Rap music
is a form of poetry and story telling. An article by Errol A. Henderson, describes a rapper as a poet
with jagged edges intact...that fully capture the Black ethos of struggle, resistance, righteousness,
exploitation, and creativity in Black America. (Henderson) An example is Jay Z, in the song, This Can

cops, and court. (Sigel) In that song he told what he grew up around. In the song, Who We Be by

They don t know who we be. What they don t know is the bull *censored*, the drama, the guns, the

Megacities Research Paper
Megacities are populated with Millions of residents; these overcrowded cities cause issues with
inadequate water supply, in many cities. Shanghai, China and Karachi, Pakistan experience scarce
water supply daily; some residents go days or weeks without water because of shortages,

An honor killing is an epitomized murder committed against a woman for actual or perceived immoral
behavior that is deemed to have breached the honor code of a household or community. It is the
perpetrators belief that the victim has brought shame or dishonor upon the family name or societal
standard. These so called honor codes are the product of condoning deep seated patriarchal societal
and ethnic injustices, where women are compelled to assume all responsibility for upholding the
morality of an entire culture. It is the most extreme case of gender based violence. Honor killings are

The Unexamined Life Of Socrates
Sanha Ryoo PHIL 127 Paper 1 02 October 2014 The Unexamined Life Through several dialogues
Plato gives readers accounts of Socrates interactions with other Athenians. While some may think of
him as a teacher of sorts, Socrates is adamant in rejecting any such claim (Plato, Apology 33a b). He
insists that he is not a teacher because he is not transferring any knowledge from himself to others, but
rather assisting those he interacts with in reaching the truth. This assistance is the reason Socrates
walks around Athens, engaging in conversation with anyone that he can convince to converse with
him. An assertion he makes at his trial in Plato s Apology is at the center of what drives Socrates in his
abnormal ways, the unexamined life is not worth living for a human being (38a). Socrates, through
aporia, looks to lead an examined life to perfect his soul and live as the best person he can be. This
paper looks to examine the unexamined life and the implications rooted in living a life like Socrates .
First, it is important to analyze what examination entails exactly, because one must understand what
something is before inspecting the why . Jumping to the why before knowing exactly what the thing
one is examining is would be irresponsible. How can one make a judgment about something without
properly comprehending what it is? In Plato s dialogues, Socrates questions the person he is in
dialogue with to show that the person does not actually have the knowledge he claims to

Integrating Technology Into The Classroom Essay
Introduction
Technology has turned the world into a global village and altered teaching and learning. It brings
about change in the classroom. Integrating technology into the classroom has gained much ground in
countries across the world. The concept of technology integration is now viewed as an important tool
to teaching and has gained the interest of many researchers who investigated effective of assimilating
technology into the curriculum (quote). According to Almekhafi Almeqdadi (2010), the ability to have
a global learning environment with appropriate technology is the one of the main goals for integrating
technology into the classroom. Technology is cost effective and it is still a major challenge for many
countries today. Due to this many educators are still not integrating technology into the curriculum
(quote). This paper will examine the research questions, hypotheses, research design, sampling and
data collection for this study.

The Queen Of Air And Darkness Analysis
**The Queen of Air and Darkness, a novel written by T.H. White, mainly follows the lives of King
Arthur and Morgause, as well as those around them. King Arthur is beginning his reign after pulling a
sword of a stone and discovering he is the rightful king of England while Morgause is living a life of
selfishness in the Lothian territories with her four sons. In The Queen Of Air and Darkness, White
uses diction and tone to express the importance of devotion in the world through the Orkney boys
relationship with their mother, King Pellinore s love for Piggy, and Arthur s mission of making the
world a better place. Morgause pays minimal attention to her sons while also using their devotion
against them. Nevertheless, the Orkney boys are willing to spend their lives fighting against the
government of England, specifically Arthur. All of their lives Morgause has drilled into their minds
what she wants them to believe, especially the fact that her words are always true. A story that she tells
them often is the reason King Lot, the boys father, has gone away to fight against the Pendragons. She
explains the lineage of Arthur, and that it is the Orkney family s obligation to get revenge. Therefore,
when the boys hear her tell her favorite story (210), they consequently accept it as truth without a
second thought. For no other reason except that she once told them to hate the Pendragons, they are

The Process Of Ordinary Cognitive Development
Introduction
The process of ordinary cognitive development has often been viewed as an independent, isolated
progress due to inherent, individual, and identically produced growth. However, in current literature,
there has been a growing consensus that socioeconomic status, and its subsequent resources, cannot be
abstracted from the process or success of cognitive development.
In one study, through the investigation of relationships between socioeconomic status and brain
morphometry, socioeconomic disparities were clearly associated with differences in cognitive
development, in other words, income was logarithmically associated with brain surface area (Noble,
2015). In another study, brain development was exemplified through language development, and
again, it was clear that language ability/development, and therefore cognitive development could be
predicted through socioeconomic status. In the study, it was found that by 3 years of age, there is a 30
million word gap between children in poverty, and those in the upper socioeconomic bracket (Hart
Risley, 2003). In another study, investigating number sense, it was revealed that as greater vocabulary
led to more number language, children with higher SES had a better sense of number concepts and
greater math achievement (Jordan, 2007). However, this study focused on general vocabulary and its
relationship to number concepts, and specifically called for further research that would control for
number language in the

Israel s current population nears six million, as compared to its population of fewer than one million at
the time of its inception. The vast majority, 90%, of the population resides in urban centers, and most
of the remainder of the population inhabits rural cooperative settlements named the moshav and the
kibbutz. The age structure is as follows: 0 14 years 28%, 15 64 years 62%, over 65 years 10%. The
population growth rate is 1.8%. The sex ratio for the total population is 0.99 male/female. Children
begin school at age 5 and can continue through age 18. Pre school is common for 3 and 4 year olds. 12

You Can Never Predict What Life Is Going At You
You can never predict what life is going to throw at you. Until I was about 9 years old, I lived in
Groves, Texas which was located by the Gulf of Mexico. Groves was a small town, so small that I had
to go to school in Port Arthur, the city right next to Groves. I had a small house and a big backyard
with lots of trees. My dad also kept a small ship and a boat in our yard, and I always thought about
what it might be like to board the ship. My days would be spent playing with my little sister and
hanging out in the yard, exploring every inch of our lawn. One hot September day, I was in my fourth
grade class when kids were being checked out. My teacher explained to those of us still in class that a

so packed I had to move in awkward positions to get comfortable and use cardboard boxes as pillows.
We could not afford to pull over for potty breaks so my parents had my sister and I pee in a jar. Gross
right? But that was all we could do. There was a countdown to when the hurricane was coming and we
had to get as far away as possible. Even though we traveled for days, we only got as far as Woodsville
which was only about two hours from where I lived. A two hour trip had been stretched out to days
because of the traffic. We were notified to find shelter and we ended up in a high school gym.
We were given two cots since there were four family members and we huddled our way to the middle

the hurricane passed over our shelter and I missed it. When I woke up my mom told me about how the

Marcovina, Trevor J. Orchard, George A. Bray, David S. Schade, Marinella G. Temprosa, Neil H.
White, Jill P. Crandall, and the Diabetes Prevention Program Research Group
OBJECTIVE
The purpose of this study was to assess the risks involved in B12 deficiency because of the long term
use of Metformin in diabetes prevention.
BACKGROUND
Vitamin B12 (also known as Cyanocobalamin and Cobalamin) is one of eight B vitamins. Commonly,
all B vitamins help in the conversion of carbohydrates to glucose, producing energy. Vitamin B12
main role is in maintaining healthy nerve cells and aids in the body s DNA replication. Also, it works
closely with other vitamins such as B6 and B9 (also known as Folate/Folic Acid) to help make red
blood cells and increase iron s efficacy in the body, create adenosylmethionine (SAMe) that is
involved in immune and mood function, and control blood levels of the amino acid homocysteine.
High levels of homocysteine are associated with heart disease. Overall, it is found that low levels of
vitamin B12 can cause fatigue, shortness of breath, diarrhea, numbness, peripheral neuropathy (in
severe cases), anemia, and age related macular degeneration.1
It is believed that Metformin interferes with vitamin B 12 Intrinsic Factor Complex. Metformin is an
oral biguanide antidiabetic agent that aids

Argumentative Essay On Santa Claus
Sitting at the kitchen table, watching on as my siblings cried and my parents smiled apologetically, I

My siblings and I were extremely creative children. Our creativity was largely inspired by our
unquestioning belief in magic, which found its faith in Santa Claus.

Mikhail Lermontov
The title of Mikhail Lermontov s book, A Hero of Our Time, confused readers due to the moral
depravity of its main character, Grigory Alexandrovich Pechorin. Tsar Nicholas thought the title must
have referred to Maxim Maximovich, as he was the only character that the Tsar could see to possess
heroic qualities. However, Lermontov did intend the title to describe Pechorin. The title of A Hero of
Our Time is a vehicle Lermontov uses to critique the flaws of his contemporary society by linking its
problematic values to the unsavoury behaviour of Pechorin. In the foreword to the story, Lermontov
clearly indicated A Hero of Our Time is intended to portray the shortcomings of his generation
through the unscrupulous Pechorin. Pechorin, with his larger than life adventures and persona, is the
hero that captures the individual aspirations of high society Russians. However, his heartlessness and
unabashed selfishness turns these aspirations on their head to reveal the moral failings of society. ...

Lermontov stated that it simply amused him to paint the contemporary person, one that he
understands, and to his misfortune has come across too often. This is a clear indication that the book
and its titular character are meant to be negative representations of the contemporary person. His
expressed displeasure with the contemporary individual is reflective of his resentment for Russian
high society. This resentment is evidenced by Lermontov s eulogy for Pushkin, in which Lermontov
blamed the pressures of high society as the cause of Pushkin s death. The social ills perceived by
Lermontov are coalesced into the character of Pechorin, which is the kind of hero Lermontov believed

Friendship In Recitatif Themes
In Recitatif, a short story by Toni Morrison, Twyla and Roberta have their ups and downs. First
meeting in a shelter where they were both dropped off, the two develop a friendship. As they grow
older, the two will occasionally run into each other, sometimes things would go well and other times
they would not. And almost every time they do meet up, there is something mentioned about Maggie.
No matter how upsetting the encounter was with Roberta, Twyla was always able to hold her ground.
This goes to show that Twyla is independent, clever, and stubborn which made her a stronger person.
Living in a shelter, without her mother, Twyla learned how to be independent. For example, despite
what her mother told her about people like Roberta, she made ... Show more content on

The Brain, The Hippocampus And The Striatum ( Jacobsen ...
There are two essential learning sections in the brain, the hippocampus and the striatum (Jacobsen
Forste, 2011). Focused learners are individuals who pay full attention in class and are not easily
distracted by their mobile devices. These individuals utilize the hippocampus which is typically the
heart of the memory and the learning center of the brain. These students have the ability of thinking in
high level scenarios and typically end up with higher paying jobs than those that are categorized as
multitaskers (Jacobsen Forste, 2011). Multitaskers are those that do two or three things at once and are
therefore not focusing on getting one task accomplished (Boyd, 2014). Such students use the area of
the brain known as the striatum. This manner of learning is not an adverse learning approach;
however, this area of the brain is for learning habits. Multitasking is usually right for those that want
to work on assembly lines. Students that graduate with degrees typically aim for high paying jobs and
in order to achieve this they must shut down their laptops and phones and pay attention in their
classes. A startling fact is just how dependent and almost fixated college students are when it comes to
accessing the internet. A few studies such as that of Jacobsen Forste, (2011) have highlighted that most
students consider the Internet as fundamental as food, shelter, water and air. These thoughts are highly
astonishing. Most of these students find that the internet is more

similar end with the endangerment of thousands of people. We will examine how these deviant
decisions affect both their societies and the reasons behind these atrocious acts. Hotel Rwanda is a

As Hirschi has been quoted concluding that a child s relationship with his or her parent is the most
important factor in determining involvement in delinquent activities. Those who had weak bonds with
their parents were most likely to commit delinquent acts (Tepperman 2010). Hirschi s theory sheds
light on the fact that children still at crucial developmental stages of their lives are very easily
influenced by their parents and the amount of involvement one s parents has in their own lives. In this
film many of the children witnessed their own fathers participating in these barbaric acts and were
encouraged to stand up and fight for their family. A problematic social upbringing where children are
forced to interact with parents taking on violent roles has a huge impact on their own behaviors. In this
story the children gain a sense of attachment and shared identity, which is facilitated by violent family
values and rituals, such as, murder and violence. This is known as Authoritarian parenting where the
parents have a high level of control but are not very caring (forcing them to fight in a war, not
worrying if they get killed). The children seemingly become brainwashed by these notions and accept
it as their responsibility or as fate . Psychologist Jean Piaget showed in his research the self is a social

Comparing a Non-Denominational Church with the Catholic...
When choosing a religious service I was very limited on my choices so I was intrigued to go back to
my roots and try the Catholic denomination. This denomination is the one that is most prevalent in my
community and also in my social circle as well. Since I have actually been to a Catholic church as a
child I thought I knew what to expect but I was shocked at how naive I was to the subject. My
preconceived ideas and thoughts were that there would be a lot of getting down on your knees then
back up again then saying your Hail Mary s with not much depth to a service. Also growing up with a
social group that was full of Catholics you would always hear of confession so that was something I
was particularly dreading for the fact that I did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout my life I have gone through many good luck charms . Divination is also a common
feature among religions. This was defined in the book as, work of priests or people who have been
specially prepared for the task (Hopfe and Woodward 23). This common feature does not go along
with my religious beliefs once again. It makes me think about fortune tellers, which I have always
wanted to go to. I believe that every religion consists of certain taboos, which is another common
feature among religions. Taboos are certain acts that should be avoided. This plays into my religion
tremendously. Most taboos of the Christian faith are set in the Ten Commandments. These would
include not committing adultery, stealing, using Gods name in vain, etc. Also there are other taboos
that society is becoming more and more lenient on as time progresses. One of which would include
the use of birth control. Christians do not allow anything that restraints the creation of life. In a study
done by the Zogby International telephone poll it found that only 26 percent supported the prohibition
against artificial birth control (O Reilly). This shows that although taboos are set in every religion,
they are adapting with the times as society sees fit. Age also plays a big role in the seriousness of a
taboo and what is considered a taboo among certain religions. Totemism is the one common feature
that was very shocking because of the abundance of totems surrounding every

challenges that come from being a parent which will discussed from the article by Anna R. Pierce
called, Who s Raising Baby? The purpose of this paper is to critique the article that s about challenges
to modern day parenting and analyze three weaknesses and one strength, as well as give an opinion on
the topic.

41). She concludes by saying that we must provide them with more than opportunities for competing,
skill learning, and socializing so they continue growing as individuals (Peirce, 2002, p. 42).
Critical Analysis (1st level)
Weaknesses 1 (2nd level)
The first weakness that is found is in some cases the author overgeneralized people and findings. With
that being said, this is a flaw because the author is generalizing all the children and parents during
almost the whole entire article. This may pose a problem for the reader because the readers may be
thinking, Well, that s not the case in my life or I never did that as a child. The author needs to
recognize that not all children and parents is that the studies and experiences don t apply to everyone.
The paper needs to acknowledge that most children are like this not all, then give specifics of who,
where, and when. For example, she overgeneralizes in the beginning of the research article by starting
off that asking a question on where children are and what they are doing. She gives examples that they
are in day care centers, playing Play Station, watching TV, and that they re not enjoying a casual
conversation. She says that parenting for us is providing them with things like those earlier examples
stated to keep them busy (Pierce, 2002, p. 39). She uses the words us and children. Not some, children

Wisdom, passion and dedication are the necessity traits to have when writing a good book in order to
provide the reader with an experience to want more; to want to know more, read more and look into
detail beyond the words written on the page. Jonathan Kozol provided just that and then some. Kozol
took real life occurrences from some previous years and wrapped them into a well detailed layout of
the struggles and occurrences that poor minority children once faced when trying to obtain an
education giving the nation a real wake up call. Although segregation was thought to have come and

Kozol pointed out that it is hard to convince young people that they can learn and can become
educated within their early years when they are continuously cordoned off by society that isn t sure
they really can (p. 37). Sadly, they could have excelled but they often weren t provided with the
opportunity. Within the next chapters, chapters 2 and 3, I began to really take into consideration Kozol
s way of writing and point of views. The voices were coming to life and it was nearly as if I was there
in that classroom watching this degrading event occur. Chapter 2 began the illustration of how corrupt
the education system really was in that particular day and age (some odd 40 50 years ago and
continues today). Although all children should serve as equals, they were not and do not. It was
merely a totem pole of color, whites being on top and colored falling below and usually falling behind.
He compares the inner city schools portraying the characteristics that a totalitarian government was
then present and the funding for education was very scarce and limited regardless of the how well the
economy was doing. The iteration of how poorly the children were focused on was also present and
the point was once noted within the reading that the expressiveness of children was often muted (p.
71). Children weren t allowed expression nor were they allowed activities outside of the lines. It was

Being A Child Of The 90 s Full House Essay
Being a child of the 90 s, Full House was a very popular show for my generation. Least to say when I
saw a spin off, Fuller House was being released this past year to Netflix I was extremely excited.
Coincidently, the spin off released during the time of this course. Believe it or not, I immediately
referenced parenting styles to the episode where DJ Tanner punishes her son a little differently than
Kimmy Gibler punishes her daughter, although the committed the same crime. I am hoping to dissect
this exact scene, and discuss DJ parenting style towards her son. I find the parenting styles really
interesting, specifically the four we discussed in module four and I really want to focus on that here.
Earlier in the course, we discussed Darling four parenting styles and for some reason, these really
stuck with me. The parenting style theory reflects four different types of parents. Indulgent parents
tend to more responsive than they are demanding (Darling) I like to think of indulgent parents as what
todays generation thinks of as cool parents . They tend to be more lenient and let the child do as they
please because they want to avoid confrontation. Darling also discusses Authoritarian and
Authoritative parents which are slightly different. Authoritarian style parents, are a little over barring.
To me, I would consider this style to be a bulldozer parent. Authoritarian style parents are very
demanding and very directive. They expect the child to do what they re told,

Early repolarization pattern (ERP) is an enigmatic common electrocardiographic (ECG)
finding, occurring in 1% to 2% of the general population (1). ERP prevalence is decreasing with
advancing age (2) This ECG pattern is frequently observed in healthy persons, particularly young, male
(3,4,5), athletic (6,7), and of African American origin (4,5,6,7,8).On the 12 lead ECG the ERP is
characterized as notching or slurring of the terminal portion of the R wave and beginning of the ST

Romans, A Wonderful Letter Essay
Romans is a wonderful letter, written by Paul in 56 A.D. to the believers in Rome. At the time of it s
composition, Paul was in Corinth on his third missionary journey. Paul explains that his audience is
the Christians of Rome (1:7), and that his desire is for them to read what he has to say. Paul had
always desired to visit the church of Rome, but had not found an opportunity to do so (1:11). Paul s
purpose in writing to the saints of Rome was to proclaim the gospel to both the Greek and Jewish
believers. As evidenced in Romans 1:16 17, we can see Paul emphatically and passionately scratching
out his letter: I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God s power for salvation to everyone who
believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek. For in it God s righteousness is revealed from faith to
faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith . Paul was very intentional and honest to his
audience. He wanted his readers from the beginning of his letter to realize that the gospel is for all
people. This is important for people to grasp. The gospel is for all people, and that is the theme I
would personally use for teaching Romans.
Timeline Setup
All that to say, here is the Romans teaching plan I have constructed. My audience would be found in
small groups. I believe small groups allow for more discussion, more discipleship, more intentionality,
and greater opportunities for open discussion. I would preferably want to teach adults, because

Billy Mitchell Analysis
Billy Mitchell was an Army Brigadier General and a famed aviator, considered by many to be the
father of the United States Air Force, he was one of the loudest proponents of air power after World
War I. He is also one of the most polarizing figures in aviation. People argue how helpful he actually
was to the development of US aviation. William D. O Neil, argues that his campaign to promote
airpower was handled the wrong way. His use of scare tactics, embellishments of fact and prediction,
and his confrontational attitude actually limited his ability to compromise with other branches and
effectively sell his ideas. An author in support of Mitchell, Robert Burlingame, stated that World War
II was the proving grounds and vindication of Billy Mitchell, that he could not have acted any other
way, and his loud voice kept him in the minds of all those who heard him, making sure his ideas were
not forgotten. In this paper, the argument of critic, William D. O Neil, will be analyzed along with the
advocate, Robert Burlingame will be presented, both sides will be evaluated, and then a synthesis will
be made. The author, William D. O Neil is one of the opponents of Billy Mitchell and his tactics. He is

without a doubt, difficult, but in the case of the Minuteman Missiles and the Amit Ballistic Missile

and willingness to protest, and the decreased influence of the Catholic Church in North Dakota over
the six year period between the installation of Minuteman Missiles and the installation of the Anti

What is GhostFood? My perception and interpretation of GhostFood have undoubtedly evolved more
times than I can count. Participating in public art and engaging with strangers from various
backgrounds has been a bizarre, risky, yet enlightening experience that I have found academically
enriching and personally impactful. The very strangeness of GhostFood has thrusted me into the
culturally colorful, yet much to be explored and understood Baltimore. Hovering around the sterile
white food truck, curious bystanders squint at the menu and inquisitively ask, What is GhostFood? It
is a question that I have repeatedly been probed throughout the course of the semester. A standard
answer that I or another server would say: GhostFood serves post extinction ... Show more content on

I was, too. Location and environment tremendously affect and influence a public art project.
GhostFood creates a safe space for observers to experience something completely new, and serve to
open discussion for anyone converse about their experiences. As Officer Moody, a security guard at
Lexington Market, mentioned, GhostFood breaks barriers. Moody wanted everyone, especially
younger Baltimoreans to try it, because she knew one day they would not be able to. In this case, food
served as a platform for discussion. Any person can form an opinion if something tasted good, or how
a peanut butter jelly sandwich can be memorable and integral part of his or her life. People come from
different backgrounds but food is relatable. To a different degree, the interconnections between food
and unrelated subjects can be surprising, controversial, and eye opening. GhostFood, in my opinion,
was successful in creating meaningful conversations through sensational and though provoking
sensational experiences; however, it has only come to the tip of the iceberg in addressing the many
questions that has come out of

Filing A Timely Charge Is An Exception Under...
I. Burke exhausted her administrative remedies because the retaliation claim is an exception under
administrative requirements as it grew out of the allegations from the initial EEOC claim.
Filing a timely charge is a prerequisite to having an actionable claim. Nat l R.R. Passenger Corp. v.
Morgan, 536 U.S. 101, 120 (2002). A plaintiff must file charges with the EEOC for either
discriminatory or retaliatory acts no later than 180 or 300 days after their occurrence. Id. at 122.
Untimely claims filed with the EEOC will be dismissed in court, even if related to timely retaliatory or
discriminatory EEOC charges filed in court. Id. at 113. In Morgan, the court argues that the statutory
time restriction furthers the policy of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
of Corr., 245 F.3d 1, 6 (1st Cir. 2001). Thus, if a plaintiff was retaliated against after filing an EEOC
charge, the standard is met. Id. Years later, the First circuit similarly held that a claim of retaliation for
filing an administrative charge with the EEOC is one of the narrow exceptions to the normal rule of
exhaustion of administrative remedies and may be bootstrapped to the charge/s filed before. 514 F.3d
at 86 87. The standard is met if a plaintiff files a charge with the EEOC and then files a retaliatory
claim with the court after receiving the right to sue letter on the first charge. Id. However, the Eighth
and Tenth circuits held that a plaintiff did not exhaust their administrative remedies unless they filed a
separate retaliation charge with the EEOC. E.g. Richter v. Advance Auto Parts, Inc., 686 F.3d 847, 851
54 (8th Cir. 2012). Thus, there is a circuit split on whether the rule from Morgan also applies to
retaliatory acts that occur after filing an EEOC charge. Id. The Court should follow the First and
Fourth circuit holding. Whether the retaliation occurs after filing an EEOC charge or is the
culmination of retaliatory conduct alleged already in a prior EEOC charge, a plaintiff should be
excused from exhausting claims alleging retaliation for the filling of a previous EEOC charge mostly
because they would be expected to be gun shy about incurring further retaliation after an additional
EEOC charge. 551 F.3d at 302. The court in

The Rule of Law
The idea of the rule of law can be traced back to at least the time of Aristotle who observed that given
the choice between a king who ruled by discretion and a king who ruled by law, the later was clearly
superior to the former. In more recent times, it is Albert V. Dicey who is credited with providing the
logical foundation upon which the modern notion of the rule of law is based. The term rule of law,
since reformulated by A.V. Dicey in the 19th century, has traditionally meant to include such notions
as supremacy of standing law over arbitrary power, equality before the law (which applies also to
government officials), and a binding constitutional framework. The rule of law generally refers to two
elements; firstly, the recognition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rule of law would seem to require no less. Application of this sub rule to ordinary civil processes
is largely unproblematic, once it is remembered that not all decisions are purely judicial. As the Chief
Justice of Australia has pointed out, the rule of law does not mean rule by lawyers. Finally Nepal has
failed historically in complying with the Rule of Law in government practices and made itself world
renowned for its ongoing tradition of impunity all time in all three branches of government. The
question is why Nepal has to be doomed with such traditions that perpetuate party favoritism, ethnic
tribalism, religious superior ism, familial nepotism, gang criminal ism, and so on that overrule justice?
There are many areas of Nepal in the government mechanism need regulations with the
implementation logistics, which can bring all under the rule of law, particularly the executor
(government official) and executed (the citizen who has violated the law) for justice. Nepal neither
will succeed with democracy nor will become prosperous as long as it continues with the tradition of
impunity under the domain of party favoritism, ethnic tribalism, religious superior ism, familial
nepotism, and criminal gang intimidation (mafia). Nepal needs to focus on implementation procedures
of regulation to address the diminutive issues of the society in everyday existence for both citizen and
the government official to make

The Battle Of The Confederate War
In the wake of the June 17th shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, protesters have been successful
in their campaign against the Confederate Battle Flag resulting in its removal from state buildings.
They have pursued the issue further, arguing that all Confederate Civil War memorials should be
removed. I disagree; the Confederate monuments hold too great a historical value to simply dispose of
them like last night s dinner. The monuments and memorials under fire all possess similar traits that
causes social and racial tension. By first identifying these traits we can then make the necessary
adjustments to remedy the issue. Again, Confederate war memorials possess a valuable glimpse into
the past and are worth preserving because if we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conflict of interest often appears with post Civil Rights Movement monuments. Placing a Confederate
statue near a Civil Rights Movement memorial could be seen as an attempt to strengthen white
supremacy which is one of the fastest ways to aggravate the immediate audience which would result
in the removal of the Confederate monument. The placement of a statue can lend it authority or the
semblance of government support. Monuments can be placed near a government building or near
government backed memorials and this tactic is known as symbolic accretion (2, p.420).
A new Confederate monument is being built in Texas which demonstrates positively and negatively
attributes as mentioned above. I will discuss what was done the right way first. Before building
commenced a survey was given to the residents to see if they approved of the project. It received a
74% approval rating. The project is being built on private property and is being funded by a non
government organization. This aspect gives the memorial little added authority. The memorial
recognizes the thirty two divisions from Texas that fought in the Civil War. Since being that it is
located in Texas, it is relevant to this location. Now, for what the memorial did wrong. Ever since the
memorial was announced the local NAACP branch has protested it. Also, it is being built near a
highway. Though organizers checked

The Triumph of Christianity in the Roman Empire Essays
Christians went from being persecuted to dominating Rome rather quickly. In a world where
separation between church and state does not exist, a Christian becoming the sole emperor of Rome
symbolized a huge turning point in history. The power switched and the Pagans in turn became
persecuted. Christians rose up and took control of all aspects of Roman society. The Pagan past was
destroyed, banned, or forgotten about. Those Christians that did not agree with how things were being
run either left the empire and became monks or formed their own sect. All of Rome changed.
The part that interested me the most in these readings were those that strayed away from the standard
Christianity that the emperor instated and followed their own ... Show more content on

Like the monks they too believed in penance, suffering, and martyrdom (164). Led by Donatus, this
movement dominated North Africa. The church was not purely religious; however, its underlay was a
revolutionary social movement. It was popular among peasants due to promises of reversing roles of
slaves and masters. What confuses me is that the base of their religion seems very much involved with
the government. That alone would not be surprising, since many religions share that quality; but,
Donatus insisted on complete separation of this Spirit directed Church from the state (164).
Separation of church and state was a big issue in the beginning of Christianity, mostly because it didn t
exist. God supposedly chose the emperor Constantine and in turn Constantine chose Christianity as the
empire s official religion. The union of church and state may not have been as great a problem if
freedom of speech had also existed. It seems weird to imagine a right that I have taken for granted all
of my life not to be present. Pagans experience a loss of political rights and status. Anti pagan and anti
Semitic preaching rallied everyone against the outsiders. Those, such as the popes, that enjoyed high
ranks in Christianity now enjoyed high ranks in the government. Those, such as the emperor, that
enjoyed high ranks in the government now enjoyed high ranks in Christianity. The line

How Does Gaines Present Racism In A Lesson Before Dying
Ernest Gaines grew up in Southern Louisiana during the 1930 s. This time period was also known as
The Civil Rights Era, during this horrific time, Gaines became accustomed to the establishment of
racism. In his novel, A Lesson Before Dying, the focus is on Jefferson, an uneducated young man who
is unjustly convicted and sentenced to death for a murder he did not commit. Gaines reveals racism as
an oppressive force in Jefferson s trial, within the African American community, and within the town
of Bayonne, Louisiana. During Jefferson s trial, his lawyer cruelly refers him as a mindless hog. As
the lawyer addresses the twelve white male jurors, he tells them that Jefferson has a modicum of
intelligence , that he is a thing to handle a plow, a thing to load your bales of cotton. (7). His attorney
also notes to the jurors that, A fool got into that automobile. A fool rode to the grocery store. A fool
stood by and watched this happen, not having sense to run. (7). His attorney says, ... Show more

To do so Grant noted, There was a Catholic church uptown for whites; a Catholic church back of town
for colored. There was a white movie theater uptown; a colored movie theater back of town. There
were two elementary schools uptown, one catholic, one public, for whites; and the same back of town
for colored. (25). Also Grant noted that, After entering the town, which was marked by the movie
theater for whites on the riverbank side of the road, I had to drive another two or three blocks before
turning down an unlit road, which led back of town to the colored section. (25). Finally in Jefferson s
Diary, Jefferson says, it look like the lord just work for wite folks cause ever sens i wasn nothing but a

that the town of Bayonne had its biased racist

  • 2. Descriptive Essay On Animals On October 19th 2017, my classmates and I had the opportunity to visit the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Center. During our visit, we toured the facility and were privileged to have an employee inform us on the grand diversity of the species found in our region. Throughout the tour, we observed and discussed a variety of animals, however in this paper I decided to focus on five: The first species we encountered during our tour was a bobcat or Lynx rufus. The bobcat s phylum is chordata and from the class mammalia. It belongs to the order carnivora, which consists of meat eating organisms. The bobcat then falls under the family, felidae commonly referred to as the family of cats. Found all throughout North America, from southern Canada to central Mexico, the bobcats can live in habitats like mountain ranges, prairies, and deserts. These habitats are favorable to bobcats because they can camouflage with their environment and have more success as hunters. Bobcats are known for their brown reddish coat with black spots and a few stripes. Apart from their coat which allows them to camouflage, bobcats are also efficient hunters because of their speed and intelligence. When approaching its prey, a bobcats tends to creep on its victim and attack once it is close enough. Using its sharp teeth, claws, and strength, this wildcat can kill prey much larger than its size. Their diet consists of mostly rabbits, hares, and mice. Aside from those animals, bobcats sometimes prey on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Labeling Of Genetically Engineered Food Labeling Genetically Engineered Foods A popular debate in the United States that s been ongoing since 1990, is the labeling on Genetically Modified or Engineered foods otherwise known as GMO s. Genetically engineered food is an unnatural process of plant or meat products. These two products have had their DNA artificially altered in a laboratory by genes from other plants, animals, viruses, or bacteria to produce foreign genes in food. Monsanto, an agriculture company, claims the reason behind this experimental genetic alteration was said to produce a multiplying supply to feed the world. Nevertheless, Americans are in a debate with the government to label genetically engineered food due to several reasons. Labeling genetically engineered ingredients will help consumers determine which products they decide to consume. The FDA published a policy that states they do not require labeling of GMO foods. Americans and people all over the world feel that they should have the right to know what they are purchasing and consuming due to a list of health, environmental, ethical, and religious reasons. People all over the world have a right to know what they are purchasing and consuming. The US government thinks otherwise. There have been no conclusive studies that show that genetically modified foods are safe to consume. The US Food and Drug Administration does not think it s necessary to require safety studies for genetically engineered foods. The article About GE Food Labeling , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Compare And Contrast Calvin And Hobbes Have you ever heard of the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes? If not, there s probably a good reason why. Calvin and Hobbes was written and illustrated by Bill Watterson, and was one of the most influential comic strips of the 1980s and 90s. This strip showed childhood as it really is. As the strip s popularity increased, Bill Watterson started to fight a war with his syndicate behind the scenes. This battle was about licensing. Bill Watterson did not want to license Calvin and Hobbes because he believed that licensing cheapens the original creation, does not respect the original comic, and makes a strip lose its integrity. • 6. Deterrence Crime Rate Sean Fitzgerald Crime Rate of Children Affected by Domestic Violence Domestic violence has been a large problem for as long as societies have been around, but more recently in the past century, it has received more attention. The part of domestic violence that has gotten the largest amount of awareness is the act of spousal abuse. Between 600,000 and six million women and between 100,000 and six million men are victims of domestic abuse each year. Of course this is paralleled by the effect on children. For every family household that a spouse is abused in, if there is a child there is a large chance that the he or she will be affected by the incident. It is estimated that about 3.3 million children will witness some type of domestic abuse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shaming is a deliberate effort to attach a negative meaning to a behavior. Deterrence is a measure that prevents a person from doing something because of fear of the consequences. Shaming will help establish a norm for a small group of people, but for most people who feel the need to break norms of society shaming will not be very effective. Deterrence will be much more effective in preventing people from committing crimes. There are two types of deterrence: general deterrence and specific deterrence. General deterrence applies to the general population that helps ensure that they will not commit crimes in the future. It is the fear of experiencing consequences that have been applied to others who have committed the crime. This is the primary method of preventing crime in the world to create a fear of having negative sanctions brought onto a person if they fail to follow the norms set out by society. Specific deterrence on the other hand is the changing of the attitude of individuals who have been or are still being punished by the law, to deter them from committing crime again. Specific deterrence is effective, but still flawed as evident by the high recidivist rate. One of the most important sociological topics is the differential association theory. This theory was created by Edwin Sutherland and he states that criminal behavior that violates society s norms is learned. A person learns to commit deviant behavior through his or her environment, primarily through communication. A person learns not only how to commit the crime, but also the mindset of how to commit the crime. The learning process that comes with crime is the same as any other learned idea, it is usually developed through small intimate groups of people that help shape one s perception of the world. A person often will see a law as being unfavorable to their previous dispositions and feel a need to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Inside Rap Music Essay Inside Rap Music Music, like mass media and television, has such a powerful influence on our society. People think rap music is very negative towards society, which is not the case. Rappers teach people about possible consequences a person may encounter if they choose the same route. Rappers tell their life experience through their songs. Rap music does not influence violence; it educates people on what is going on in the lives of urban people. When someone mentions rap music, the first thing some people think is violence, sex, and drugs, negative, and worthless music. • 10. The Unexamined Life Of Socrates Sanha Ryoo PHIL 127 Paper 1 02 October 2014 The Unexamined Life Through several dialogues Plato gives readers accounts of Socrates interactions with other Athenians. While some may think of him as a teacher of sorts, Socrates is adamant in rejecting any such claim (Plato, Apology 33a b). He insists that he is not a teacher because he is not transferring any knowledge from himself to others, but rather assisting those he interacts with in reaching the truth. This assistance is the reason Socrates walks around Athens, engaging in conversation with anyone that he can convince to converse with him. An assertion he makes at his trial in Plato s Apology is at the center of what drives Socrates in his abnormal ways, the unexamined life is not worth living for a human being (38a). Socrates, through aporia, looks to lead an examined life to perfect his soul and live as the best person he can be. This paper looks to examine the unexamined life and the implications rooted in living a life like Socrates . First, it is important to analyze what examination entails exactly, because one must understand what something is before inspecting the why . Jumping to the why before knowing exactly what the thing one is examining is would be irresponsible. How can one make a judgment about something without properly comprehending what it is? In Plato s dialogues, Socrates questions the person he is in dialogue with to show that the person does not actually have the knowledge he claims to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Queen Of Air And Darkness Analysis **The Queen of Air and Darkness, a novel written by T.H. White, mainly follows the lives of King Arthur and Morgause, as well as those around them. King Arthur is beginning his reign after pulling a sword of a stone and discovering he is the rightful king of England while Morgause is living a life of selfishness in the Lothian territories with her four sons. In The Queen Of Air and Darkness, White uses diction and tone to express the importance of devotion in the world through the Orkney boys relationship with their mother, King Pellinore s love for Piggy, and Arthur s mission of making the world a better place. Morgause pays minimal attention to her sons while also using their devotion against them. Nevertheless, the Orkney boys are willing to spend their lives fighting against the government of England, specifically Arthur. All of their lives Morgause has drilled into their minds what she wants them to believe, especially the fact that her words are always true. A story that she tells them often is the reason King Lot, the boys father, has gone away to fight against the Pendragons. She explains the lineage of Arthur, and that it is the Orkney family s obligation to get revenge. Therefore, when the boys hear her tell her favorite story (210), they consequently accept it as truth without a second thought. • 15. The Process Of Ordinary Cognitive Development Introduction The process of ordinary cognitive development has often been viewed as an independent, isolated progress due to inherent, individual, and identically produced growth. However, in current literature, there has been a growing consensus that socioeconomic status, and its subsequent resources, cannot be abstracted from the process or success of cognitive development. In one study, through the investigation of relationships between socioeconomic status and brain morphometry, socioeconomic disparities were clearly associated with differences in cognitive development, in other words, income was logarithmically associated with brain surface area (Noble, 2015). In another study, brain development was exemplified through language development, and again, it was clear that language ability/development, and therefore cognitive development could be predicted through socioeconomic status. In the study, it was found that by 3 years of age, there is a 30 million word gap between children in poverty, and those in the upper socioeconomic bracket (Hart Risley, 2003). In another study, investigating number sense, it was revealed that as greater vocabulary led to more number language, children with higher SES had a better sense of number concepts and greater math achievement (Jordan, 2007). However, this study focused on general vocabulary and its relationship to number concepts, and specifically called for further research that would control for number language in the ... Goldberg, William C. Knowler, Santica M. Marcovina, Trevor J. Orchard, George A. Bray, David S. Schade, Marinella G. Temprosa, Neil H. White, Jill P. Crandall, and the Diabetes Prevention Program Research Group OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to assess the risks involved in B12 deficiency because of the long term use of Metformin in diabetes prevention. BACKGROUND Vitamin B12 (also known as Cyanocobalamin and Cobalamin) is one of eight B vitamins. Commonly, all B vitamins help in the conversion of carbohydrates to glucose, producing energy. Vitamin B12 main role is in maintaining healthy nerve cells and aids in the body s DNA replication. Also, it works closely with other vitamins such as B6 and B9 (also known as Folate/Folic Acid) to help make red blood cells and increase iron s efficacy in the body, create adenosylmethionine (SAMe) that is involved in immune and mood function, and control blood levels of the amino acid homocysteine. High levels of homocysteine are associated with heart disease. Overall, it is found that low levels of vitamin B12 can cause fatigue, shortness of breath, diarrhea, numbness, peripheral neuropathy (in severe cases), anemia, and age related macular degeneration.1 It is believed that Metformin interferes with vitamin B 12 Intrinsic Factor Complex. Tsar Nicholas thought the title must have referred to Maxim Maximovich, as he was the only character that the Tsar could see to possess heroic qualities. However, Lermontov did intend the title to describe Pechorin. The title of A Hero of Our Time is a vehicle Lermontov uses to critique the flaws of his contemporary society by linking its problematic values to the unsavoury behaviour of Pechorin. In the foreword to the story, Lermontov clearly indicated A Hero of Our Time is intended to portray the shortcomings of his generation through the unscrupulous Pechorin. Focused learners are individuals who pay full attention in class and are not easily distracted by their mobile devices. These individuals utilize the hippocampus which is typically the heart of the memory and the learning center of the brain. These students have the ability of thinking in high level scenarios and typically end up with higher paying jobs than those that are categorized as multitaskers (Jacobsen Forste, 2011). Multitaskers are those that do two or three things at once and are therefore not focusing on getting one task accomplished (Boyd, 2014). Such students use the area of the brain known as the striatum. This manner of learning is not an adverse learning approach; however, this area of the brain is for learning habits. Multitasking is usually right for those that want to work on assembly lines. Students that graduate with degrees typically aim for high paying jobs and in order to achieve this they must shut down their laptops and phones and pay attention in their classes. A startling fact is just how dependent and almost fixated college students are when it comes to accessing the internet. Those who had weak bonds with their parents were most likely to commit delinquent acts (Tepperman 2010). Hirschi s theory sheds light on the fact that children still at crucial developmental stages of their lives are very easily influenced by their parents and the amount of involvement one s parents has in their own lives. In this film many of the children witnessed their own fathers participating in these barbaric acts and were encouraged to stand up and fight for their family. A problematic social upbringing where children are forced to interact with parents taking on violent roles has a huge impact on their own behaviors. In this story the children gain a sense of attachment and shared identity, which is facilitated by violent family values and rituals, such as, murder and violence. I believe that every religion consists of certain taboos, which is another common feature among religions. Taboos are certain acts that should be avoided. This plays into my religion tremendously. This may pose a problem for the reader because the readers may be thinking, Well, that s not the case in my life or I never did that as a child. The paper needs to acknowledge that most children are like this not all, then give specifics of who, where, and when. Paul explains that his audience is the Christians of Rome (1:7), and that his desire is for them to read what he has to say. Paul had always desired to visit the church of Rome, but had not found an opportunity to do so (1:11). Paul s purpose in writing to the saints of Rome was to proclaim the gospel to both the Greek and Jewish believers. As evidenced in Romans 1:16 17, we can see Paul emphatically and passionately scratching out his letter: I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God s power for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek. For in it God s righteousness is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith . Paul was very intentional and honest to his audience. • 38. Book Report In a home much like your home, a man sits at his kitchen table; his hands shake and sweat lines his brow. The man lives in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and he has just received information regarding the amount of fallout protection his home would provide his family in the event of a nuclear attack. The Bureau of the Census provided the information as part of the Home Shelter Survey. The report was not what the man wanted to hear. The protection factor of the man s basement was nowhere near the recommended minimum of forty. The man thought of how scared his wife was; he just wanted her to feel safe. The man wished he could be more like his young son. The man recalled the day his son told him about his first duck and cover drill. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Isolating and identifying major motivating factors in the complex global landscape of the Cold War is, without a doubt, difficult, but in the case of the Minuteman Missiles and the Amit Ballistic Missile System, three factors can be identified. The major shift in Vietnam policy, a growth in counter culture and willingness to protest, and the decreased influence of the Catholic Church in North Dakota over the six year period between the installation of Minuteman Missiles and the installation of the Anti Ballistic Missile all contributed to an increase in protest in 1970. The birth of civil defense in the United States was slow, painful, and it almost ended before it began. The Office of Civil Defence was created on May 20, 1941, with the primary purpose of evaluating civil defense programs in other countries. As a result of this evaluation, civil defense was deemed unnecessary, and the office was slated to close just two years after its creation. The office clung to life for two additional years until it was closed in 1945, and, with it, the idea of civil defense in the United States appeared to die. It was not until 1950 that President Truman would breath new life into civil defense for the United States. Truman created the Federal Civil Defence Administration with the purpose of minimising the effects of a nuclear attack, dealing with the immediate effect of said attack, and aiding in the national recovery ... • 39. Women of Trachis Essay In Sophocles Women of Trachis, who is responsible for Heracles death? Note: that an important part of your response to this question will be to discuss the extent to which Heracles may be responsible for his own destruction, through his nature as a traditional hero. It could be argued that none of the characters in Women of Trachis are essentially and solely responsible for the death of Sophocles character Heracles. It is simply human error and the innate qualities of a tragic hero and heroine. All the same, one could justify that the characters could have foreseen the impact of their actions or perhaps that the disastrous end of Heracles was inevitable as it was the prediction of the oracle (Women of Trachis ll.77 82). She s done nothing to be ashamed of or harmful to me. I can t be jealous (Women of Trachis ll.441 449). She [Deianira] intends that neither Iole nor Heracles shall be harmed; but she must try reconquering her husband s love. Deianira states herself that she does not wish to feel bitter towards her husband; resentment isn t a course for a sensible woman... (Women of Trachis ll.552 553). In fact, Deianira pities Iole as she sees her fate parallel to her own and she believes that Her beauty s ruined her life (Women of Trachis l.465). Deianira finds Heracles Eros towards Iole devastating and difficult to take due to her own inner physiology and vulnerability. In her desperate situation and need for security Deianira, in a state of panic, decides to revert to magic, the love token given to her by Nessus. Here the audience feels more sympathy for her case as it becomes a case of being innocent and not knowing your actions could be the wrong ones and have fatal consequences. Thus it is evident to see that her scheme to win her husbands love back is born out of weakness, naivety and an innocent belief in Nessus gift. All she wishes is good will, peace and love, and she believes the clotted blood of Nessus can gain her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Ghostwood Research Paper What is GhostFood? My perception and interpretation of GhostFood have undoubtedly evolved more times than I can count. Participating in public art and engaging with strangers from various backgrounds has been a bizarre, risky, yet enlightening experience that I have found academically enriching and personally impactful. The very strangeness of GhostFood has thrusted me into the culturally colorful, yet much to be explored and understood Baltimore. Hovering around the sterile white food truck, curious bystanders squint at the menu and inquisitively ask, What is GhostFood? It is a question that I have repeatedly been probed throughout the course of the semester. A standard answer that I or another server would say: GhostFood serves post extinction ... GhostFood creates a safe space for observers to experience something completely new, and serve to open discussion for anyone converse about their experiences. As Officer Moody, a security guard at Lexington Market, mentioned, GhostFood breaks barriers. Moody wanted everyone, especially younger Baltimoreans to try it, because she knew one day they would not be able to. In this case, food served as a platform for discussion. Any person can form an opinion if something tasted good, or how a peanut butter jelly sandwich can be memorable and integral part of his or her life. People come from different backgrounds but food is relatable. To a different degree, the interconnections between food and unrelated subjects can be surprising, controversial, and eye opening. • 41. Filing A Timely Charge Is An Exception Under... I. Burke exhausted her administrative remedies because the retaliation claim is an exception under administrative requirements as it grew out of the allegations from the initial EEOC claim. Filing a timely charge is a prerequisite to having an actionable claim. Nat l R.R. Passenger Corp. v. Morgan, 536 U.S. 101, 120 (2002). A plaintiff must file charges with the EEOC for either discriminatory or retaliatory acts no later than 180 or 300 days after their occurrence. Id. at 122. Thus, if a plaintiff was retaliated against after filing an EEOC charge, the standard is met. Id. Years later, the First circuit similarly held that a claim of retaliation for filing an administrative charge with the EEOC is one of the narrow exceptions to the normal rule of exhaustion of administrative remedies and may be bootstrapped to the charge/s filed before. 514 F.3d at 86 87. The standard is met if a plaintiff files a charge with the EEOC and then files a retaliatory claim with the court after receiving the right to sue letter on the first charge. Id. However, the Eighth and Tenth circuits held that a plaintiff did not exhaust their administrative remedies unless they filed a separate retaliation charge with the EEOC. E.g. Richter v. Advance Auto Parts, Inc., 686 F.3d 847, 851 54 (8th Cir. 2012). Thus, there is a circuit split on whether the rule from Morgan also applies to retaliatory acts that occur after filing an EEOC charge. Id. The Court should follow the First and Fourth circuit holding. Whether the retaliation occurs after filing an EEOC charge or is the culmination of retaliatory conduct alleged already in a prior EEOC charge, a plaintiff should be excused from exhausting claims alleging retaliation for the filling of a previous EEOC charge mostly because they would be expected to be gun shy about incurring further retaliation after an additional EEOC charge. 551 F.3d at 302. • 42. The Rule of Law The idea of the rule of law can be traced back to at least the time of Aristotle who observed that given the choice between a king who ruled by discretion and a king who ruled by law, the later was clearly superior to the former. In more recent times, it is Albert V. Dicey who is credited with providing the logical foundation upon which the modern notion of the rule of law is based. The term rule of law, since reformulated by A.V. Dicey in the 19th century, has traditionally meant to include such notions as supremacy of standing law over arbitrary power, equality before the law (which applies also to government officials), and a binding constitutional framework. The rule of law generally refers to two elements; firstly, the recognition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rule of law would seem to require no less. Application of this sub rule to ordinary civil processes is largely unproblematic, once it is remembered that not all decisions are purely judicial. As the Chief Justice of Australia has pointed out, the rule of law does not mean rule by lawyers. Finally Nepal has failed historically in complying with the Rule of Law in government practices and made itself world renowned for its ongoing tradition of impunity all time in all three branches of government. The question is why Nepal has to be doomed with such traditions that perpetuate party favoritism, ethnic tribalism, religious superior ism, familial nepotism, gang criminal ism, and so on that overrule justice? There are many areas of Nepal in the government mechanism need regulations with the implementation logistics, which can bring all under the rule of law, particularly the executor (government official) and executed (the citizen who has violated the law) for justice. Nepal neither will succeed with democracy nor will become prosperous as long as it continues with the tradition of impunity under the domain of party favoritism, ethnic tribalism, religious superior ism, familial nepotism, and criminal gang intimidation (mafia). The Battle Of The Confederate War In the wake of the June 17th shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, protesters have been successful in their campaign against the Confederate Battle Flag resulting in its removal from state buildings. They have pursued the issue further, arguing that all Confederate Civil War memorials should be removed. I disagree; the Confederate monuments hold too great a historical value to simply dispose of them like last night s dinner. The monuments and memorials under fire all possess similar traits that causes social and racial tension. By first identifying these traits we can then make the necessary adjustments to remedy the issue. Conflict of interest often appears with post Civil Rights Movement monuments. Placing a Confederate statue near a Civil Rights Movement memorial could be seen as an attempt to strengthen white supremacy which is one of the fastest ways to aggravate the immediate audience which would result in the removal of the Confederate monument. The placement of a statue can lend it authority or the semblance of government support. Monuments can be placed near a government building or near government backed memorials and this tactic is known as symbolic accretion (2, p.420). A new Confederate monument is being built in Texas which demonstrates positively and negatively attributes as mentioned above. I will discuss what was done the right way first. Before building commenced a survey was given to the residents to see if they approved of the project. It received a 74% approval rating. The project is being built on private property and is being funded by a non government organization. This aspect gives the memorial little added authority. The memorial recognizes the thirty two divisions from Texas that fought in the Civil War. Since being that it is located in Texas, it is relevant to this location. Now, for what the memorial did wrong. Ever since the memorial was announced the local NAACP branch has protested it. Also, it is being built near a highway. Though organizers checked ... • 44. The Triumph of Christianity in the Roman Empire Essays Christians went from being persecuted to dominating Rome rather quickly. In a world where separation between church and state does not exist, a Christian becoming the sole emperor of Rome symbolized a huge turning point in history. The power switched and the Pagans in turn became persecuted. Christians rose up and took control of all aspects of Roman society. The Pagan past was destroyed, banned, or forgotten about. Those Christians that did not agree with how things were being run either left the empire and became monks or formed their own sect. All of Rome changed. The church was not purely religious; however, its underlay was a revolutionary social movement. It was popular among peasants due to promises of reversing roles of slaves and masters. What confuses me is that the base of their religion seems very much involved with the government. That alone would not be surprising, since many religions share that quality; but, Donatus insisted on complete separation of this Spirit directed Church from the state (164). Separation of church and state was a big issue in the beginning of Christianity, mostly because it didn t exist. God supposedly chose the emperor Constantine and in turn Constantine chose Christianity as the empire s official religion. The union of church and state may not have been as great a problem if freedom of speech had also existed. It seems weird to imagine a right that I have taken for granted all of my life not to be present. Pagans experience a loss of political rights and status. This time period was also known as The Civil Rights Era, during this horrific time, Gaines became accustomed to the establishment of racism. In his novel, A Lesson Before Dying, the focus is on Jefferson, an uneducated young man who is unjustly convicted and sentenced to death for a murder he did not commit. Gaines reveals racism as an oppressive force in Jefferson s trial, within the African American community, and within the town of Bayonne, Louisiana. During Jefferson s trial, his lawyer cruelly refers him as a mindless hog. As the lawyer addresses the twelve white male jurors, he tells them that Jefferson has a modicum of intelligence , that he is a thing to handle a plow, a thing to load your bales of cotton. (7).
