D.Min. Project Prospectus Sharon L. Smith I. Title: Bridging the Gap: A Pilot Project Aimed at
Mutually Equipping Church and Business Leaders for Kingdom Impact II. The Context: Followers of
Jesus Christ who possess a divine calling, talents, and gifts to work and serve God through specific
voluntary or paid vocations in the workplace face daily opportunities to impact the Kingdom of God.
When believers walk by faith and obedience in the revelation that God s divine presence and purpose
is with them daily in their work lives, God empowers them to lead change that can transform lives,
businesses, and even nations. Believers clearly see this truth in the lives of Abraham, Joseph, Daniel,
and Nehemiah. The Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many marketplace leaders express a desire to have greater impact for God in the workplace, but their
view and understanding of Kingdom ministry hinders them. The common belief that sacred is separate
from secular is pervasive among marketplace believers. This view is detrimental to the advancement
of the Kingdom. Contrary to this belief, Scripture represents a holistic approach, which views work as
worship with all believers as one of a kind ministers of God s grace in the context in which He places
them. A deficient understanding of the importance of a God given calling to serve the Kingdom in a
marketplace vocation weakens a believer s perspective and witness as he or she seeks to engage with
unsaved humanity. Also, many Spirit filled marketplace ministers lack hope and faith that the gifts of
the Spirit will operate through them in workplace contexts. The present state of corruption, greed, and
moral failure among leaders in corporate America bears witness to the need for the Church to more
effectively engage in the marketplace. Informed and relevant equipping and empowering of workplace
believers by knowledgeable church leaders can help direct God s followers toward this goal. Greater
and more industrious works of service are possible through increased communication and
collaboration between church and

Identifying Two Unknown Species of Bacteria Essay
Identifying Two Unknown Species of Bacteria
Materials and Methods
Week 1, Day 1 (10 November 2000)
The first day an unknown sample was assigned to each group of students. The first test applied was a
gram stain to test for gram positive or gram negative bacteria. The morphology of the two types of
bacteria was viewed under the microscope and recorded. Then the sample was put on agar plates using
the quadrant streak method for isolation. There were three agar plates; one was incubated at room
temperature, the second at 30 degrees Celsius, and the third at 37 degrees Celsius. By placing each
plate at a different temperature optimal growth temperature can be predicted for both species of
bacteria.

The Urease test detects the presence of the enzyme urease. This medium contains urea and a pH
indicator, phenol red. A bacterium containing urease will produce ammonia, which raises the pH and
changes the color of the medium. A positive test shows a color change from a reddish orange to pink.
The fourth test used to identify gram negative bacteria is the Simmon s Citrate Utilization test. This
test measures a bacteria s ability to use citrate as its sole carbon source for metabolic pathways. This
solid medium contains Bromothymol Blue, which serves as a pH indicator. If the bacteria can break
down citrate it produces carbon dioxide that reacts with sodium and water, also found in the medium,
to produce sodium carbonate. Sodium carbonate elevates the pH causing a color change from green to
blue (a positive result).
The second bacterium was gram positive. There are three tests that are used to identify gram positive
bacteria. The three tests are hemolyses on blood agar, Mannitol fermentation on mannitol salt agar,
and the coagulase test using plasma containing serum in coagulase tubes.
The test on blood agar tests for a bacteria s ability to hemolyze red blood cells to obtain the iron found
in them. There are three types of hemolysis: gamma lysis, alpha lysis, and beta lysis. Gamma lysis is
the absence of erythrocyte lysis showing no color change in the blood agar. Alpha lysis is a partial
break down of hemoglobin and results

Analysis Of The Devil In The White City
In the 1890s, the upcoming Columbian Exposition was all that the people of the United States talked
about. Nicknamed World s Fair, it was supposed to lead America through the 20th century and into the
future. The fair was designed in the hopes of outshining the Paris Exposition and its main attraction
the Eiffel Tower, yet no man was able to tell of the trials and tribulation at the fair and its architects
would face in the years leading up to the exposition and in the aftermath of it. The Devil In The White
City, written by Erik Larson, is a nonfiction text that goes in depth into the murder, magic, and
madness that took place during the time of the World s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Larson
mainly focused on two extremely important people who he believed transformed the World s Fair.
Daniel Hudson Burnham, the leading architect, and director of the fair and the Urban Serial Killer, Dr.
H. H. Holmes, previously known as Herman Webster Mudgett. Throughout the duration of the text,
Larson constantly switches back and forth from the separate, yet intertwined stories of Burnham and
Holmes. Larson explores Burnham s role in the construction of the fair and Holmes path to corruption.
Through the telling of the events that lead up to the fair and after it, Larson makes the argument that
appearances can be deceiving and that the shell of beauty can hide danger and evil. While Holmes was
the obvious devil/serial murderer and Burnham can be credited with building the White

The History Of Cosmetic Dentistry Gives Insight Into The
The history of cosmetic dentistry gives insight into the current social standing of cosmetic dentistry. In
Braces, Pointless and Essential, Michael Thomsen, the author, presents the history of dentistry (and as
a result, the history of cosmetic dentistry). A man named Pierre Fauchard is introduced as an 18th
century French physician credited as being the father of modern dentistry because of his formalization
of the basic principles of contemporary braces (anchoring dentures to molars to keep them in place).
Thomsen writes that Around the same time that Fauchard practiced, the desire for a symmetrical set of
teeth was taking root among the wealthy in Europe and the US. (3) An American man named Thomas

Dr. Mulcahy s reasoning is opposed in an article later published by the Canadian Dental Association
titled Cosmetic Dentistry Is Still Dentistry authored by Dr. Ken Glick, DDS. Dr. Glick s main
motivating factor for writing this article is to refute most of Dr. Mulcahy s points. These dueling
dentists present the juxtaposing sides of this argument involving the question of whether cosmetic
dentistry should be considered a specialty and some ethics and morality values in the modern dental
field. A point of agreement between the dueling articles is that an integral aspect of restorative
dentistry is the concept of an ideal appearance. Dr. Mulcahy states that restorative dentistry is
dedicated to perfection and that the best outcome of our endeavors includes the esthetic, or cosmetic,
aspect of what we do. (1) Though this assertion precedes a statement against the disproportionate
emphasis on the cosmetic aspect of restorative dentistry, which Dr. Brink attributes to the popular
media. Dr. Brink agrees, writing one of the criteria of successful restorative dentistry has been the
ability to produce ideal appearance in the restored teeth. (2) This statement is followed by an assertion
that before a collection of major technological advances in the world of dentistry,

Reflection On Trust
About a year ago today my family was going through many issues that affected my mental well being
tremendously. Being home was similar to being lost, it was a world I wasn t equipped for, and no
longer wanted to be apart of. Things at home took such a turn that my mother sent my sister to live in
Florida with her father, I knew then I no longer had a purpose to stay. Following this occasion, I
started to ask around for places to live, I even went as far as looking for rooms to rent in the area.
Generously one of my best friends, Jessica, offered to let me stay with her for the remainder of the
school year. She and her parents took me in days later, accepting me with loving arms. Living with my
friends family started to become more of a home to me than any home I d lived in prior. This
transformation in my life was one of the first in which I allowed myself to be cared for by others. With
this I want to explore the idea of trust within my life, and how it has affected me. Trust is something I
was taught over time not to believe in, or more importantly I was shown not to believe in. Throughout
many of my life experiences I ve learned that trust can only be plausible if my attitudes towards the
idea would permit it. My sense of trust within people has been diminished, leaving me with the notion
that trusting is a huge risk. The risk of being let down by someone who chose not to commit to an act,
is a risk I am normally am not able to perform. After countless occasions of

Evolution Of Warfare
The evolution of the United States military and the notion of warfare can be traced back to the 1600s
in Early America. The military has developed from a small militia to the world s greatest within a few
hundred years. In order to understand the changes in warfare, history, and the American way of war,
the beginning must be understood. The Colonial period is one of the best examples because it was the
period in which organized militias were constructed as a primary means of defense. The resulting
colonial militia laws required every able bodied male citizen, usually between the ages of 16 and 45,
to participate and were responsible for equipping themselves with weapons. These units were utilized
for small military operations which included seizing land, defending themselves, and being prepared
for emergency service. Militia units became the backbone of the American ... Show more content on

A popular weapon used by both sides was the rifle. Rifles were invented before the Civil War and
were greatly used in the War of 1812. However, more types were built and a larger amount were used
during the Civil War. The weapon that was responsible for the most deaths was the Springfield 1861.
Due to the inaccuracy of the weapon, it was usually used in massed fire tactics which is when a large
number of soldiers are firing simultaneously at the same target. The idea behind that tactic was since
the rifle was not very accurate, they would fire simultaneously to fill the air with large amounts of
lead. This shower of lead would cause the enemy to panic and retreat. Like many other wars, the
militia was also utilized during the Civil War. Militias generally increased in size, but still generally
stayed within the boundaries of their local jurisdictions and were required to provide their own
weapons. A militia rifleman typically carried his rifle, knife, and hunting pouch that held shooting

understanding the play. The characters are examples of they way Lorraine lived day by day her live
when she was a kid. The success of the play was brought out by the characters and her way of keeping
our interest with each one of them. They characters are very critical in understanding the play. There
were four main characters that made the play a sellout, Lena, Ruth, Beneatha and Walter Lee. Each
one of these characters had a dream to try to accomplish. The Characters portray the plays meaning in

Africa becomes a symbol of heritage and a troublesome but hopeful future (Cheney 56). With the help
of Paul Robeson, W.E.B Dubois and Frederick Douglass she created the play A Raisin in the Sun. Paul

voice and the songs he sang. Hansberry learned from him ^...the way that most blacks lived, and the

A path to spiritual discovery
As Madhu Bazaz Wangu indicates, Buddhism is a path to spiritual discovery (8). Being Buddhism, a
non theistic religion, their disciples follow the monotheistic doctrine demonstrating they believe in
only one deity. Siddhartha Gautama, mostly known as Buddha the enlightened , is the one deity
Buddhists believe in. As Wangu writes, Siddhartha practiced severe self denial and meditation before
he could reach Nirvana (state of mind that ends the path of suffering) (8). Siddhartha came to the
conclusion that in order to reach Nirvana one should be able to eliminate desire by doing right and
thinking right. This could be done by following the Dharma (the law of Buddhism). Because the
Buddha never wrote down any of his teachings, his disciples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Because Shunyata teaches that everything is independent, and that only understanding this concept
will allow to eliminate disturbing emotions in order to reach Nirvana, it is the primordial philosophy
in Mahayana. Shunyata can be realized by purification, practice of ethics, and single pointed
concentration; this will allow the individual to understand him/her self as an independent I. Moreover,
it allows realizing that society does not shape an individual, but an individual shapes his/her self by
comprehending shunyata. Even though Mahayana Buddhists believe in Buddha, they believe in a
different form of Buddha; Bodhisattva Being of Wisdom. As Heinrich Dumoulin points out, a
Bodhisattva is an enlightened Buddhist monk who delays Nirvana in order to help other people obtain
release from the path of suffering. Mahayana Buddhists believe that Buddha had been a Bodhisattva in
his past lives before he was born as Siddartha Gautama. Apart from showing compassion, a
bodhisattva also plays a sacrificial role just as any other deity in order to help the latest individual to
obtain nirvana. Being a savior, a bodhisattva practices the Six Virtues, or Paramitas to gain merit for
humankind. According to Wangu, the Six Virtues are, the perfection of giving (dana), the perfection of
morality (sila), the perfection of patience (santi), the perfection of courage (virya), the perfection of
meditation (dhyana), and the perfection of wisdom

The Aggression Scale Movie
Aggression scale is a film about trauma. Specifically, coping with trauma by using anger. An unjust
event shattered Owen and Lauren s lives. Mobsters are coming to reclaim money stolen by their father
and kill the family for the father s sins. When the mobsters arrive Lauren in the shower and Owen is
already scheming a plan of attack. What the mobsters do not know is that Owen has a diagnosed
behavioral problem. Aggression.
The trauma we act out is guided our place in ideological systems. Gender interprets our trauma in
terms of weakness and power. Masculinity teaches trains boys that manliness is defined by toleration
of pain. A boy proves manhood by taking more pain then the next guy. But if a boy flinch s or is
swayed by tragedy his very genitalia is called into question. A girl, on the other hand, is expected to

What does set him apart from traditional slashers is his enjoyment of violence. While the film justifies
Owen s violence as vengeance against home invaders and attacks by bullies this does not tell the
whole story.
Lauren, Owen s stepsister, on the other hand, reacts to trauma differently. The only clue we are given
about her history is the scars on her wrists. Some unknown event has rattled its way into her brain. In
all likelihood, she was the victim of someone s whims or dealt a bad hand of genetics. Whatever is the
cause of Laurens tragedy, she directs her aggression inwards. Internalizing the aggressor and re
victimizing herself.
The scene about midway through the film where Lauren respectively stabs one of the mobsters is
telling. Unlike Owen who is calm and numbly collected when he traps and hunts the mobsters, Lauren
screams while she repetitively stabs the mobster. From her depths, something larger than the violence
is bellowing. The opposite of relief. Lauren is crossing a line from victim to something

Migration from Sudan into the United States In recent years the US has experienced a large influx of
migration. Immigrants come from many different countries, races, religions and for many different
reasons. One group of immigrants that received national attention is a group from Sudan that has been
called The Lost Boys . The reason behind the national attention is due to the dramatic circumstances
that brought them to America. To understand these circumstances it is important to understand their
history. Sudan is the largest country in Africa. It is between two powerful cultural regions, the Islamic

This Law seriously violated the 1972 peace agreement, forcing the south to adopt Arab culture,
language and the religion of Islam. The Nimeiry government was strengthening Sudan s ties to Egypt
and Saudi Arabia, as economic hardships drew it away from the Soviet Union and closer to western
nations. During the 1980 s, strikes, riots and shortages of goods and services had devastated the
nation. The discovery of natural resources, such as minerals and petroleum that were discovered in the
south added to the problem. Although the discovery of natural reserves should have helped Sudan s
economic situation, it became another source of conflict between the north and the south over who
would control it. The southern forces backed indirectly by the Soviet Union through Ethiopia
reorganized into the Sudan Peoples Liberation Army and rose up against the North. At this point in the
civil unrest, the war took on a religious aspect, fueled by Nimeiry s implementation of the Sharia,
which is Islamic law. In 1986 a coup forced Nimeiry out of power and he was replaced by a coalition

support for such an Association. Those in favour of the creation of such an organization believed that

encouraged the harmonization of resources and practices. Other supporters felt that coming together as
a single entity would create a stronger voice in advocating for policy changes, and that creating a
united front for First Nations educators was very necessary. Those who were hesitant to support the
NIEC s plan cited funding issues and the cost of membership as a potential barrier, as well as the
limitations of only including Directors of Education, and suggested a broader catchment including
local leadership, principals and educators to increase the efficacy of the authority that such an
organization would bear. A further concern raised was the issue of diversity and the differing needs by

his true colors in valuing Common Sense and its importance. Pane attacked the king saying that he
was just as responsible as parliament for the state of the colonies. After Thomas Paine was condemned

1. Give the title, author, genre, and date of original publication.
Freakonomics is the title of this nonfiction book; it was written by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J.
Dubner. On April 12, 2005, by HarperCollins.
2. What is author s purpose for writing the book? Write a paragraph summarizing the main argument
or purpose.
In this unique book, economist Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, an award winning author and
journalist team up to create a powerful and freakish work that challenges the typical rules of
economics. Economics is above all a science of measurement. It comprises an extraordinarily
powerful and flexible set of tools that can reliably assess a thicket of information to determine the
effect of any one factor, or even the whole effect. That s what the economy is, after all: a thicket of
information about jobs and real estate and banking and investment. But the tools of economics can be
just as easily applied to subjects that are more well, more interesting. (Dubner, Levitt 11). That is
exactly what this book is all about, not just the value of money but the way resources are managed and
how different factors affect one another. In Freakonomics, Levitt and Dubner collaborate to explore
the hidden side of everything (Dubner, Levitt 1). Through this writing, the two men evaluate everyday
situations in life and ask questions that have not yet

Liverpool. It was voted Best Comedy of the Year when performed by the
Royal Shakespeare Company in 1980. By 1983 it had risen to be the fourth most popular play on the
British stage. In the same year it was transformed into a film and won the BAFTA Best Film Award as

Literature and Society
Traditionally, literature is believed to reflect society and its people; a belief that stresses that literature
is closely connected to society. Realistically, however, literature has been said to be of very little
practical use to the people who make the society. This way of perception probably derives from the
fact that the majority of the people who run the wheels of the society have very little contact, if at all,
with literature. Those who do are looked at as a passive group of people the ones who does not do any
real physical work. Literature, or simply the act of reading, is, and has been, regarded as a genteel
habit of those who are provided for, thus able to spend time reading about life instead of living it.
Therefore, it is no surprise that the society at large does not care much about the study of literature. If
needs be for an education of some sort, it is done more often than not in professional schools. Liberal
studies, the study of art for art sake, do not give a practical and instant reward that professional
trainings offer.

Windshield Repair
Having clear visibility is one of the most crucial aspects of driving. The windshield is the structure
that provides vision, so when it s damaged, driving becomes increasingly challenging and dangerous.
There is no question that Autoglass Xpress of St. Louis, MO, is the Show Me State s top windshield

Sometimes, the damage occurs through acts of vandalism. No matter what the cause, it would be wise

small cracks and put off the windshield repair, figuring that they can get by. The problem with that
theory is that small cracks will grow over time.

Pain is considered a positive symptom. It prevents overuse of the traumatized area. Increased blood
flow is caused by heat. In addition, swelling keeps the injured site immobile, but prolonged swelling
can decrease the ability to move muscles (Hydrotherapy; Swelling). Anti inflammatory drugs can
decrease swelling and heat, but they also reduce pain. This lessening of pain can lead to over usage of
the injured site causing further harm. Because of the extra fluids the blood vessels are put under
pressure thus stalling the flow of blood and lymphocytes. A safe way to remove the excess fluids
naturally is by using hot and cold; however, heat can prolong inflammation causing certain secondary
tissue damage ( Hydrotherapy ). This is where hydrotherapy comes

Analysis of the Absorption of Green Light Versus Red Light Absorption in Spinach Leaves
The goal of the experiment was to determine if green light had less ability to absorb than red light in
spinach leaves. This was done by separating the photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll
b, carotene and xanthophylls) from one another using paper chromatography. The separated pigments
were then analyzed for their absorption spectrum using a spectrographometer. When the data was
graphed it clearly showed the higher rate of red light absorption over green light. These results along
with previous research indicate the importance of red light in photosynthesis and the minor role green
light plays.

These wavelengths correspond to the wavelengths of visible light. Overall blue and red light works
best, while green in least effective in the photosynthesis process (Nishio, 2000). The wavelengths that
a pigment absorbs, absorption spectra, are determined using a spectrophotometer. In order to obtain
the photosynthetic pigment s absorption spectra the pigments are separated using paper
chromatography. Paper chromatography is an analytical technique that separates a mixture based on
the individual pigment s size, polarity and solubility (Lewis, 2004). The separation of the mixtures
involves a stationary phase (the chromatography paper), which a mobile phase (solvent) moves up
through. When the mixtures is applied to the paper and allowed to flow with the mobile phase, the
different pigments move at different rates (Campbell, 1996). This means the pigments that absorb the
strongest to the stationary phase (the chromatography paper) will move the slowest, while the weakest
will move the fastest. The rate of the pigments movement will separate each pigment individually
from the mixture (Maitland, 2002). This natural separation shows that each pigment is chemically
different and plays different roles in photosynthesis (Maitland, 2002). To analyze the separated
pigments a spectrophotometer is used to obtain an absorbance spectrum. This spectrum is a graph that
shows a pigment s light absorption versus wavelengths

Spirituality and John Coltrane Essay
Spirituality and John Coltrane
After being fired from Miles Davis s band in 1957 for his chronic use of heroin, John Coltrane was
hurt tremendously. He decided it was time he quit using heroin. He took a month off from music while
he went cold turkey. During this month in the early spring of 1957, Coltrane had a momentous
religious experience (Nisenson, 40). Coltrane asked God to give him the means and privilege to make
others happy through music (Coltrane, 1995, 2). As time went on, Coltrane felt that he was leading a
life that was contradictory to the pledge and away from the esteemed path that he had made to God
(Coltrane, 1995, 2). Starting with A Love Supreme (recorded in December, 1964), Coltrane stuck to ...

As Coltrane was starting to get introduced to the greats of jazz like Miles Davis and Charlie Parker, he
started drinking heavily. Then, probably in 1953, he started doing heroin (Thomas, 52). By 1957, he
had played with Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and twice with Miles Davis. Davis, a recovering
heroin addict himself, said of Coltrane during this time that he d be playing in clothes that looked like
he had slept in them for days . . . and when he wasn t nodding, [he d be] picking his nose and
sometimes eating it (Davis, 212). Once, while on stage with Davis, Coltrane nodded out, and Davis
punched him in the stomach. Eventually, Davis would kick him out of his band for the second time.
While Coltrane was kicking his habit in early 1957, he was touched by God. How this came about was
known only to Coltrane. But the transformation in him resulted in some of the most powerful music of
the twentieth century. In late 1957, he started working on what was to be known as sheets of sound, a
style in which Coltrane would play every note in chord as fast as he could, while starting and ending
in different notes in a specific key. That year, he released his first acclaimed album on the Blue Note
label, Blue Train, which was a record of jazz standards.
Miles Davis loved the new Coltrane, and hired him back into his band for a third time. Davis came up
with a new jazz concept, modal improvisation.

Gaza Strip Controversy
It was ten years ago that Gaza Strip residents were forced out of their homes. From picturesque Gush
Katif, from Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip and from four small settlements in the northern West
Bank. The ticket? Peace and renewed international support for Israel.
The action was emotional and controversial. The residents claimed that they provided an important
defense buffer against attacks by Palestinians. The Jews living in Gaza did not steal Palestinian land.
The settlers of Gush Katif took sand dunes that were never inhabited by the Arabs and with the sweat
of their brow turned them into a paradise and a financial powerhouse.
Still, the government of Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, argued that remaining in Gaza was too costly ...

The manifestation of Frederick Taylor s theory of Scientific Management was a major breakthrough in
traditional approaches in the twentieth century, it proposed in enhancing the business economic
efficiency by simplifying and optimising organisational tasks with scientific methods which in turn
would increase productivity (Taylor, 1911). Taylor s methods of rigid control of workers to enhance
productivity was met with widespread support by industrialists and economists in the USA and
Britain. On the contrary Human Relations School of Thought was a movement which saw workers in
a different light, instead of viewing them as merely one more cog in the company wheel as Taylor, it
asserted that the organisation will prosper as it helps the employee to prosper. Over the course of time
the onus has shifted from Taylor s Scientific Management to Human Relations School of Thought as
the dynamic nature of business has led to a change in the mind set of people and they give more
prominence to employee participation and well being than just financial incentives.
Taylor s Scientific Management theory which saw huge upsurge in the 1910 s and it facilitated the
industrial growth not only in the United States of America but across the world.

Analysis Of The Middle Passage Passage
Stolen from Africa, brought to America, fighting on arrival, fighting for survival. I have sung along to
this Bob Marley lyrics for years without recognizing how much power and truth his words represent
(Bob Marley, 2017). Slaves were treated like animals and owners had no disregard for their lives,
working them from birth to death. Not all slaves believed that their fate was set in stone, those brave
few found ways to resist. The Middle Passage voyage that African slaves were subjected to was
immensely dehumanizing. Before boarding the boats, slaves were examined by surgeons, branded and
held in a holding pen until the slave ships arrived. These ships were nicknamed floating tombs
because of the deaths that occurred during the voyage ( Atlantic Slave Trade ). These boats were
cramped, overcrowded and unsanitary. The male slaves were kept nude to try and embarrass them and
they were made to dance as a form of exercise. In addition, food portions were very sparse and
infrequent (Dr. Godshalk s Presentation on the Atlantic Slave Trade).
Slaves attempted to resist the mistreatment and dehumanizing, but the slave traders were often a step
ahead and attempts to resist resulted in the slave s death. One way in which the slaves tried to resist
was by refusing to eat and drink in an effort to starve themselves. The slave traders had a tool called
the Speculum Oris that was used to hold the slaves mouths open (Dr. Godshalk s Presentation on the
Atlantic Slave Trade).

Who Is Bilbo Greed
Luck is an unexplainable thing, but luck is sometimes just a part of destiny. In J.R.R. Tolkien s fantasy
novel The Hobbit, the main character, Bilbo, accompanied thirteen dwarves on an journey to retrieve
treasure stolen from them by the terrible dragon, Smaug. Over the course of the adventure, Bilbo
triumphed over many challenges that became intertwined with his destiny. Bilbo is very lucky, but his
adventures and escapes were not managed by mere luck; for he is a piece of something greater. Bilbo s
highly unlikely rescues and the acquiring of a magical ring are all a part of Bilbo s destiny. For
instance, Bilbo found a magic ring that belonged to Gollum, an antagonist in the story. The ring was
lying next to him when he woke up, and when he felt it, he put the ring in his pocket almost without
thinking; certainly it did not seem of any particular use at the moment. The possibility of ... Show

were captured by an elven king, Bilbo stuffed the dwarves into barrels that ...were tubs neatly packed
with a dwarf each; but down they all went into the sea ...one after another. The escape was absolutely
perilous, but was also nevertheless triumphant. His rescues and luck had to have been destiny, for they
were all successful, and not to mention absurd. All in all, the successes of Bilbo could not have been
achieved by pure luck. The fact that Bilbo found a magical ring, and that he saved the dwarves, each
time with a plan crazier than the last, all show that Bilbo s successes are his destiny. At the end of the
book, Gandalf jokingly says to Bilbo that even he could not have predicted Bilbo s role in the
adventure, for Bilbo was only a small person in a giant

Now, those above 22, who have previously aged out, are able to enroll in our 22+ program and still

chance to make a difference and we at QDA realize this. The funding from the grant will not fully

The expense for these programs is just something that we know we need to budget for because the

I think that this is possible, but only if the person in the leadership role understands the difference
between the two. Equity, involves trying to understand and give people what they need to enjoy full,

Theme Of The Birds By Alfred Hitchcock
Psycho is a classic horror/thriller directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock made in 1960. It
followed Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), who stole $40,000 in order to be with her lover, and stopped at
the Bates Motel, owned by the psychotic split personality Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), along the
way, and is murdered by Bates, which catalyses an investigation into Norman and his mysterious
mother. Psycho explored in depth the psychosis of its characters and how it connected to Kübler Ross
model of grief, and utilized filmmaking techniques, such as mise en scène and motifs, to demonstrate
this characteristic of its characters.
Hitchcock demonstrated his auteurism in his use of a bird focused motif, a recurring theme in not only
Psycho but also his other works, The Birds (1963) in particular, and demonstrated this motif through
use of mise en scène. Norman Bates was a hobbyist taxidermist, and took particular interest in birds.
His office was decorated with stuffed birds of both predator and prey. In close up shots of the
conversation between Norman and Marion Crane (a bird name), Norman was often framed with a
predatory bird in a low angle shot, designed to make him appear intimidating. Marion, on the other
hand, was framed alongside prey birds in a high angle shot, which showed her defenselessness. This
filmmaking technique signified the juxtaposition between Norman and Marion, where Marion was
weak preyed upon by the powerful predatory Norman Bates. This relationship is

Battle Of Jutland The Battle of Jutland was between the Germans and the British, the conflict was
building up for a while, and on May 31, 1916 is when the battle began. The Battle of Jutland is one of
the biggest naval battles in history, this battle was considered to be the only major naval battle of
World War I . The battle evolved over time due to Britain s declaration that its naval force was
superior in Europe and the introduction in 1906 of the Dreadnought. The British and the Germans
wanted two different things, the British wanted to protect their world wide kingdom. The Germans
were in need of more place than the North Sea s coast and they wanted full control of the North Sea.
Both countries avoided the conflict for a long time because of fear of losing and making their country
vulnerable. A letter from King George to Jellicoe stated: At this grave moment in our national history I
send to you, and through you to the officers and men of the fleet of which you have assumed

The Meaning Of July Fourth For The Negro By Frederick...
What comes to mind when you think of the Fourth of July? Most people think of positive words such
as freedom and independence (maybe even fireworks and cookouts). Unfortunately, if a slave in the
1850s was asked this same question, this person would most likely not think of such pleasant words.
Slaves did not think of this day as a celebration and instead were saddened by the fact they did not
have the freedom that the white people in America did. One of these people is Frederick Douglass,
who was born a slave and remained a slave for twenty years before escaping from the oppression he
faced. When he arrived in the North, which was where a slave could be free, he became a great writer
and speaker, and he told many about the cruelty of slavery. One of his famous speeches, called The
Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro, was given on July 5, 1852, in Rochester, New York, at an event
in the Corinthian Hall. The purpose of the event was to celebrate America s signing of the Declaration
of Independence, 76 years before. However, this was not the purpose of Douglass s speech. He instead
used this opportunity to tell the perspective of slaves on this day. Frederick Douglass hopes to inspire
his audience to see how and why the celebration of a country that allows such an immoral practice to
occur is inappropriate, and why he will instead be mourning on this holiday. In establishing this idea,
Douglass incorporates rhetorical devices that hit all three points of the rhetorical

Participants 150 students from the University of Washington.
Procedure The participants were shown a short film of a multiple car crash, which lasted for one
minute, though the action lasted for four seconds. The participants were split into three groups. The
first group were asked: How fast were the cars going when they smashed into each other? The second
group were asked: How fast were the cars going when they hit each other? The third group was the
control group and were not asked about the speed of the cars. A week later the participants were
recalled and asked some more questions about the film. Nine of these were filler questions. The
critical question was: Did you see any broken glass? This question appeared randomly in the other
question. (There was no broken glass in the film)
Results The results supported that of the first experiment. The participants in the smashed condition
overestimated the speed of the cars. The participants who reported seeing broken glass: Condition|%
who answered yes. Smashed|32%, Hit|14%, Control|12%.
Discussion The results suggest that the verb used affect memory altering their perception a week later.
The word smashed incorporates broken glass in to their memories as the word smashed implies broken
glass.
Loftus and Palmer support the reconstructive memory hypothesis. They believe that information

  • 2. Echose D.Min. Project Prospectus Sharon L. Smith I. Title: Bridging the Gap: A Pilot Project Aimed at Mutually Equipping Church and Business Leaders for Kingdom Impact II. The Context: Followers of Jesus Christ who possess a divine calling, talents, and gifts to work and serve God through specific voluntary or paid vocations in the workplace face daily opportunities to impact the Kingdom of God. When believers walk by faith and obedience in the revelation that God s divine presence and purpose is with them daily in their work lives, God empowers them to lead change that can transform lives, businesses, and even nations. Believers clearly see this truth in the lives of Abraham, Joseph, Daniel, and Nehemiah. The Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many marketplace leaders express a desire to have greater impact for God in the workplace, but their view and understanding of Kingdom ministry hinders them. The common belief that sacred is separate from secular is pervasive among marketplace believers. This view is detrimental to the advancement of the Kingdom. Contrary to this belief, Scripture represents a holistic approach, which views work as worship with all believers as one of a kind ministers of God s grace in the context in which He places them. A deficient understanding of the importance of a God given calling to serve the Kingdom in a marketplace vocation weakens a believer s perspective and witness as he or she seeks to engage with unsaved humanity. Also, many Spirit filled marketplace ministers lack hope and faith that the gifts of the Spirit will operate through them in workplace contexts. The present state of corruption, greed, and moral failure among leaders in corporate America bears witness to the need for the Church to more effectively engage in the marketplace. Informed and relevant equipping and empowering of workplace believers by knowledgeable church leaders can help direct God s followers toward this goal. Greater and more industrious works of service are possible through increased communication and collaboration between church and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Identifying Two Unknown Species of Bacteria Essay Identifying Two Unknown Species of Bacteria Materials and Methods Week 1, Day 1 (10 November 2000) The first day an unknown sample was assigned to each group of students. The first test applied was a gram stain to test for gram positive or gram negative bacteria. The morphology of the two types of bacteria was viewed under the microscope and recorded. Then the sample was put on agar plates using the quadrant streak method for isolation. There were three agar plates; one was incubated at room temperature, the second at 30 degrees Celsius, and the third at 37 degrees Celsius. By placing each plate at a different temperature optimal growth temperature can be predicted for both species of bacteria. Week 1, Day 2 (12 November ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Urease test detects the presence of the enzyme urease. This medium contains urea and a pH indicator, phenol red. A bacterium containing urease will produce ammonia, which raises the pH and changes the color of the medium. A positive test shows a color change from a reddish orange to pink. The fourth test used to identify gram negative bacteria is the Simmon s Citrate Utilization test. This test measures a bacteria s ability to use citrate as its sole carbon source for metabolic pathways. This solid medium contains Bromothymol Blue, which serves as a pH indicator. If the bacteria can break down citrate it produces carbon dioxide that reacts with sodium and water, also found in the medium, to produce sodium carbonate. Sodium carbonate elevates the pH causing a color change from green to blue (a positive result). The second bacterium was gram positive. There are three tests that are used to identify gram positive bacteria. The three tests are hemolyses on blood agar, Mannitol fermentation on mannitol salt agar, and the coagulase test using plasma containing serum in coagulase tubes. The test on blood agar tests for a bacteria s ability to hemolyze red blood cells to obtain the iron found in them. There are three types of hemolysis: gamma lysis, alpha lysis, and beta lysis. Gamma lysis is the absence of erythrocyte lysis showing no color change in the blood agar. Alpha lysis is a partial break down of hemoglobin and results ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of The Devil In The White City In the 1890s, the upcoming Columbian Exposition was all that the people of the United States talked about. Nicknamed World s Fair, it was supposed to lead America through the 20th century and into the future. The fair was designed in the hopes of outshining the Paris Exposition and its main attraction the Eiffel Tower, yet no man was able to tell of the trials and tribulation at the fair and its architects would face in the years leading up to the exposition and in the aftermath of it. The Devil In The White City, written by Erik Larson, is a nonfiction text that goes in depth into the murder, magic, and madness that took place during the time of the World s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Larson mainly focused on two extremely important people who he believed transformed the World s Fair. Daniel Hudson Burnham, the leading architect, and director of the fair and the Urban Serial Killer, Dr. H. H. Holmes, previously known as Herman Webster Mudgett. Throughout the duration of the text, Larson constantly switches back and forth from the separate, yet intertwined stories of Burnham and Holmes. Larson explores Burnham s role in the construction of the fair and Holmes path to corruption. Through the telling of the events that lead up to the fair and after it, Larson makes the argument that appearances can be deceiving and that the shell of beauty can hide danger and evil. While Holmes was the obvious devil/serial murderer and Burnham can be credited with building the White ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The History Of Cosmetic Dentistry Gives Insight Into The The history of cosmetic dentistry gives insight into the current social standing of cosmetic dentistry. In Braces, Pointless and Essential, Michael Thomsen, the author, presents the history of dentistry (and as a result, the history of cosmetic dentistry). A man named Pierre Fauchard is introduced as an 18th century French physician credited as being the father of modern dentistry because of his formalization of the basic principles of contemporary braces (anchoring dentures to molars to keep them in place). Thomsen writes that Around the same time that Fauchard practiced, the desire for a symmetrical set of teeth was taking root among the wealthy in Europe and the US. (3) An American man named Thomas Berdmore added fuel to the fire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dr. Mulcahy s reasoning is opposed in an article later published by the Canadian Dental Association titled Cosmetic Dentistry Is Still Dentistry authored by Dr. Ken Glick, DDS. Dr. Glick s main motivating factor for writing this article is to refute most of Dr. Mulcahy s points. These dueling dentists present the juxtaposing sides of this argument involving the question of whether cosmetic dentistry should be considered a specialty and some ethics and morality values in the modern dental field. A point of agreement between the dueling articles is that an integral aspect of restorative dentistry is the concept of an ideal appearance. Dr. Mulcahy states that restorative dentistry is dedicated to perfection and that the best outcome of our endeavors includes the esthetic, or cosmetic, aspect of what we do. (1) Though this assertion precedes a statement against the disproportionate emphasis on the cosmetic aspect of restorative dentistry, which Dr. Brink attributes to the popular media. Dr. Brink agrees, writing one of the criteria of successful restorative dentistry has been the ability to produce ideal appearance in the restored teeth. (2) This statement is followed by an assertion that before a collection of major technological advances in the world of dentistry, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Reflection On Trust About a year ago today my family was going through many issues that affected my mental well being tremendously. Being home was similar to being lost, it was a world I wasn t equipped for, and no longer wanted to be apart of. Things at home took such a turn that my mother sent my sister to live in Florida with her father, I knew then I no longer had a purpose to stay. Following this occasion, I started to ask around for places to live, I even went as far as looking for rooms to rent in the area. Generously one of my best friends, Jessica, offered to let me stay with her for the remainder of the school year. She and her parents took me in days later, accepting me with loving arms. Living with my friends family started to become more of a home to me than any home I d lived in prior. This transformation in my life was one of the first in which I allowed myself to be cared for by others. With this I want to explore the idea of trust within my life, and how it has affected me. Trust is something I was taught over time not to believe in, or more importantly I was shown not to believe in. Throughout many of my life experiences I ve learned that trust can only be plausible if my attitudes towards the idea would permit it. My sense of trust within people has been diminished, leaving me with the notion that trusting is a huge risk. The risk of being let down by someone who chose not to commit to an act, is a risk I am normally am not able to perform. After countless occasions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Evolution Of Warfare The evolution of the United States military and the notion of warfare can be traced back to the 1600s in Early America. The military has developed from a small militia to the world s greatest within a few hundred years. In order to understand the changes in warfare, history, and the American way of war, the beginning must be understood. The Colonial period is one of the best examples because it was the period in which organized militias were constructed as a primary means of defense. The resulting colonial militia laws required every able bodied male citizen, usually between the ages of 16 and 45, to participate and were responsible for equipping themselves with weapons. These units were utilized for small military operations which included seizing land, defending themselves, and being prepared for emergency service. Due to the inaccuracy of the weapon, it was usually used in massed fire tactics which is when a large number of soldiers are firing simultaneously at the same target. The idea behind that tactic was since the rifle was not very accurate, they would fire simultaneously to fill the air with large amounts of lead. This shower of lead would cause the enemy to panic and retreat. Like many other wars, the militia was also utilized during the Civil War. Being Buddhism, a non theistic religion, their disciples follow the monotheistic doctrine demonstrating they believe in only one deity. Siddhartha Gautama, mostly known as Buddha the enlightened , is the one deity Buddhists believe in. As Wangu writes, Siddhartha practiced severe self denial and meditation before he could reach Nirvana (state of mind that ends the path of suffering) (8). Because Shunyata teaches that everything is independent, and that only understanding this concept will allow to eliminate disturbing emotions in order to reach Nirvana, it is the primordial philosophy in Mahayana. Shunyata can be realized by purification, practice of ethics, and single pointed concentration; this will allow the individual to understand him/her self as an independent I. Moreover, it allows realizing that society does not shape an individual, but an individual shapes his/her self by comprehending shunyata. Even though Mahayana Buddhists believe in Buddha, they believe in a different form of Buddha; Bodhisattva Being of Wisdom. As Heinrich Dumoulin points out, a Bodhisattva is an enlightened Buddhist monk who delays Nirvana in order to help other people obtain release from the path of suffering. Mahayana Buddhists believe that Buddha had been a Bodhisattva in his past lives before he was born as Siddartha Gautama. Apart from showing compassion, a bodhisattva also plays a sacrificial role just as any other deity in order to help the latest individual to obtain nirvana. Overall blue and red light works best, while green in least effective in the photosynthesis process (Nishio, 2000). The wavelengths that a pigment absorbs, absorption spectra, are determined using a spectrophotometer. In order to obtain the photosynthetic pigment s absorption spectra the pigments are separated using paper chromatography. Paper chromatography is an analytical technique that separates a mixture based on the individual pigment s size, polarity and solubility (Lewis, 2004). The separation of the mixtures involves a stationary phase (the chromatography paper), which a mobile phase (solvent) moves up through. When the mixtures is applied to the paper and allowed to flow with the mobile phase, the different pigments move at different rates (Campbell, 1996). This means the pigments that absorb the strongest to the stationary phase (the chromatography paper) will move the slowest, while the weakest will move the fastest. The rate of the pigments movement will separate each pigment individually from the mixture (Maitland, 2002). This natural separation shows that each pigment is chemically different and plays different roles in photosynthesis (Maitland, 2002). To analyze the separated pigments a spectrophotometer is used to obtain an absorbance spectrum. This spectrum is a graph that shows a pigment s light absorption versus wavelengths ... Not all slaves believed that their fate was set in stone, those brave few found ways to resist. The Middle Passage voyage that African slaves were subjected to was immensely dehumanizing. Before boarding the boats, slaves were examined by surgeons, branded and held in a holding pen until the slave ships arrived. These ships were nicknamed floating tombs because of the deaths that occurred during the voyage ( Atlantic Slave Trade ). These boats were cramped, overcrowded and unsanitary. The male slaves were kept nude to try and embarrass them and they were made to dance as a form of exercise. In addition, food portions were very sparse and infrequent (Dr. Godshalk s Presentation on the Atlantic Slave Trade). Slaves attempted to resist the mistreatment and dehumanizing, but the slave traders were often a step ahead and attempts to resist resulted in the slave s death. • 29. Who Is Bilbo Greed Luck is an unexplainable thing, but luck is sometimes just a part of destiny. In J.R.R. Tolkien s fantasy novel The Hobbit, the main character, Bilbo, accompanied thirteen dwarves on an journey to retrieve treasure stolen from them by the terrible dragon, Smaug. Over the course of the adventure, Bilbo triumphed over many challenges that became intertwined with his destiny. Bilbo is very lucky, but his adventures and escapes were not managed by mere luck; for he is a piece of something greater. Bilbo s highly unlikely rescues and the acquiring of a magical ring are all a part of Bilbo s destiny. For instance, Bilbo found a magic ring that belonged to Gollum, an antagonist in the story. The ring was lying next to him when he woke up, and when he felt it, he put the ring in his pocket almost without thinking; certainly it did not seem of any particular use at the moment. The escape was absolutely perilous, but was also nevertheless triumphant. His rescues and luck had to have been destiny, for they were all successful, and not to mention absurd. All in all, the successes of Bilbo could not have been achieved by pure luck. The fact that Bilbo found a magical ring, and that he saved the dwarves, each time with a plan crazier than the last, all show that Bilbo s successes are his destiny. At the end of the book, Gandalf jokingly says to Bilbo that even he could not have predicted Bilbo s role in the adventure, for Bilbo was only a small person in a giant ... Also, is describes the qualities the leaderships members need to keep in mind. Everything is to be done for the betterment of the students, and these terms are there to justify that thought. The school understands the value of the students and the quality of education they have obtained, so they worked hard to get this program within our school. Now, those above 22, who have previously aged out, are able to enroll in our 22+ program and still gain their diploma. This is giving those individuals who have finally realized the importance, the chance to make a difference and we at QDA realize this. The funding from the grant will not fully cover this program, but we as a school understand the value. The expense for these programs is just something that we know we need to budget for because the outcome is much greater. This is producing more, productive members to contribute to society. 3. Can educational services and funding be provided with equality and equity? Support your answer. I think that this is possible, but only if the person in the leadership role understands the difference between the two. Equity, involves trying to understand and give people what they need to enjoy full, healthy lives while equality, aims to promote fairness and justice, but it can only work if everyone starts from the same place and needs the same things (Clow, Hanson, amp; Bernier, 2015, p. 1). • 31. Theme Of The Birds By Alfred Hitchcock Psycho is a classic horror/thriller directed by the legendary Alfred Hitchcock made in 1960. It followed Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), who stole $40,000 in order to be with her lover, and stopped at the Bates Motel, owned by the psychotic split personality Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), along the way, and is murdered by Bates, which catalyses an investigation into Norman and his mysterious mother. Psycho explored in depth the psychosis of its characters and how it connected to Kübler Ross model of grief, and utilized filmmaking techniques, such as mise en scène and motifs, to demonstrate this characteristic of its characters. Hitchcock demonstrated his auteurism in his use of a bird focused motif, a recurring theme in not only Psycho but also his other works, The Birds (1963) in particular, and demonstrated this motif through use of mise en scène. Norman Bates was a hobbyist taxidermist, and took particular interest in birds. His office was decorated with stuffed birds of both predator and prey. In close up shots of the conversation between Norman and Marion Crane (a bird name), Norman was often framed with a predatory bird in a low angle shot, designed to make him appear intimidating. Marion, on the other hand, was framed alongside prey birds in a high angle shot, which showed her defenselessness. This filmmaking technique signified the juxtaposition between Norman and Marion, where Marion was weak preyed upon by the powerful predatory Norman Bates. This relationship is ... • 33. The Meaning Of July Fourth For The Negro By Frederick... What comes to mind when you think of the Fourth of July? Most people think of positive words such as freedom and independence (maybe even fireworks and cookouts). Unfortunately, if a slave in the 1850s was asked this same question, this person would most likely not think of such pleasant words. Slaves did not think of this day as a celebration and instead were saddened by the fact they did not have the freedom that the white people in America did. One of these people is Frederick Douglass, who was born a slave and remained a slave for twenty years before escaping from the oppression he faced. When he arrived in the North, which was where a slave could be free, he became a great writer and speaker, and he told many about the cruelty of slavery. One of his famous speeches, called The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro, was given on July 5, 1852, in Rochester, New York, at an event in the Corinthian Hall. The purpose of the event was to celebrate America s signing of the Declaration of Independence, 76 years before. However, this was not the purpose of Douglass s speech. He instead used this opportunity to tell the perspective of slaves on this day. Frederick Douglass hopes to inspire his audience to see how and why the celebration of a country that allows such an immoral practice to occur is inappropriate, and why he will instead be mourning on this holiday. In establishing this idea, Douglass incorporates rhetorical devices that hit all three points of the rhetorical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first group were asked: How fast were the cars going when they smashed into each other? The second group were asked: How fast were the cars going when they hit each other? The third group was the control group and were not asked about the speed of the cars. A week later the participants were recalled and asked some more questions about the film. Nine of these were filler questions. The critical question was: Did you see any broken glass? This question appeared randomly in the other question. (There was no broken glass in the film) Results The results supported that of the first experiment. The participants in the smashed condition overestimated the speed of the cars. The participants who reported seeing broken glass: Condition|% who answered yes. Smashed|32%, Hit|14%, Control|12%. Discussion The results suggest that the verb used affect memory altering their perception a week later. The word smashed incorporates broken glass in to their memories as the word smashed implies broken glass. Loftus and Palmer support the reconstructive memory hypothesis.
