Epithelial Food Lab
Purpose How is digested food in the intestine absorbed into epithelial cells? Research Caramel is an
intermediate product of a carbohydrate that is being decomposed by heat. It has many different
compositions, all under the same name of caramel , depending on the carbohydrate it originated from.
Caramel is a large molecule when compared to the other two major molecules in the experiment,
glucose and phosphoric acid, so therefore it is least likely to diffuse through the dialysis tube
membrane. However, in a study done by the American Pharmaceutical Association, it was shown that
caramel can slowly pass through a dialysis tube membrane over the course of many hours, provided
that the water is changed or the bag is placed in running water. ... Show more content on

The results of the experiment support the first part of my hypothesis, as even from the one minute
mark, the BTB test returned a result of acidic, which indicates that there was phosphoric acid in the
distilled water. If the phosphoric acid hadn t moved through the dialysis tubing s membrane, then the
water would have been neutral. My first hypothesis was also correct in that I predicted that the
caramel molecules wouldn t be able to permeate the bag. As there was no visible change in the color
of the water in the test tube, which diffusion of caramel would cause, the caramel was not able to pass
through the

Luther Standing Bear, A Native American Author,...
Luther Standing Bear was a Native American author, philosopher and actor. Luther Standing Bear was
a master at using rhetoric, because with it, he benefits not only his people, but also the human identity.
Luther Standing Bear contributed all of his efforts to get the Native Americans a place in a world that
was no longer theirs. Luther Standing Bear is a pioneer in what would eventually become a movement
for Civil Rights. The ideas that he was using did not involve insults but rather, pointed out views that
others hadn t seen or thought of before. Instead of using hatred and insults, he used his wisdom and his
life experiences to express his views on the world, and why big changes had to be executed
immediately. Standing Bear uses the opportune moment in the early 20th century, while civil rights
was at its infancy to persuade the white man that the Indian was no different than he was. Luther
Standing bear was born in 1868, on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Luther Standing
Bear s real name was Ota K te (Plenty Kill). For the first eleven years of his life, Standing Bear was
taught the traditional ways of the Lakota. This meant that he learned how to hunt at a young age; he
also learned the tales and the language of his people. Being taught the ways of the Lakota, Standing
Bear would soon be introduced to world that made it impossible for the Indian to survive. This was
because at the time Native Americans were not given the same opportunities as an average

The Discovery of Antibiotics
The discovery of antibiotics in the 20th century was a major advancement in medicine. At the time of
the discovery, war was taking place, which resulted in a plethora of infected wounds. Antibiotics can
be described as a use, laboratory effect, or an action of a chemical compound (Clardy et al). Selman
Waksman first used the term in 1941 when describing the small molecules made by microorganisms
that prevent the growth of other microorganisms (Clardy et al). Antibiotics helped control the infection
which allowed many who were injured a second chance to live. The antibiotic that was first
discovered and used to cure war infections was penicillin. Since the discovery of antibiotics,
controlling infections and diseases became easier, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The peptidoglycan coat in bacterial cells is formed by a crystal lattice structure that forms linear
chains from a pair of alternating amino acids. The cross linking of peptidoglycan strands by the
transpeptidase enzyme forms an uneven cell wall. Antibiotics, notably penicillin, interfere with this
cross linking, which destroys the bacteria cell wall. More specifically, antibiotics work by attaching to
specific sites on the ribosome, which affects with the bacteria s function during protein synthesis. The
small or 30S ribosomal subunit has binding sites for tRNA molecules. These sites are known as the
aminoacyl (A), peptidyl (P), and exit (E) sites. The process known as decoding oversees base pairing
between the codon of mRNA and the anticodon of tRNA at the A site, allowing the 30S subunit to
distinguish between the similarities of the tRNAs (Brodersen et al). Because most antibiotics bind to
ribosomes, its main target is the rRNA, which results in most of the binding sites being near the
mRNA and the tRNA binding sites, or at sites that undergo structural rearrangements during the
processes of decoding or translocation (Dallas et al). In all, the antibiotic prevents the bacterium from
creating its cell wall, which essentially kills the bacterium (Brodersen et al).
The appearance and spreading of antibiotic resistant pathogens have given rise to many studies
involving the genetic

Outsourcing was not the only way low wage foreign workers affected the work force in the 1800s.
There were also millions of immigrants added to the workforce. When that many new workers were
added to the labor force, of course it was not without effect on industrial wages they were driven
down.
Both outsourcing and immigration affected the economy in more ways than just the cost of labor.
Products were manufactured at a lower cost and thus sold for a lower price. Lower manufacturing
costs benefited the companies, and the lower prices of the goods produced benefited consumers.
Outsourcing Today Offshore Outsourcing
How is it Possible?
According to Philip Kotler, Today s economic landscape is being shaped by two powerful forces
technology and globalization. Offshore outsourcing is made possible by these same two factors. This
is not surprising, given the history of technological advances effects on the economy. Advances in
communications technologies and information technologies are making it possible. Several jobs can
be performed at one place while reporting to another, by electronically sending the work wherever it is
needed. And offshore outsourcing is having a tremendous affect on the economies of the countries

evaluation. The ROCE (profitability) of 5.6% shows that the company pays more for its borrowings,
which reduces shareholders earnings. The company s ROCE is based on Sales Revenue to Capital
Employed of 0.83 (low margin/high turnover) and the operating profit margin is 6.75%. So this
evaluation shows that the company makes 6.75p (before interests and taxes) for every £ of sales. The

companies having varying levels of debts. However the enterprise Value (EV) is not an accurate
indicator of any company s financial position because the EV can also be originated by large quote of

How Does Gilgamesh Change
One of the major themes of The Epic of Gilgamesh, is probably the most important, and that is Death.
Death plays a major role in the story and causes Gilgamesh s biggest change in character
development.
Gilgamesh, King of Uruk, believes that he is part God, making himself think that he is immortal. In
Tamed by a Kiss we were introduced to Enkidu, a man formed out of clay by the Goddess Aruru. His
whole creation was to stop Gilgamesh from treating his people poorly. Enkidu is roped into a trap set
by a hunter. This trap forces Enkidu to become more of a man due to sexual actions. He s taken out of
the wild and is taught the ways of civilization. This is when Enkidu learns of Gilgamesh and how he is
described as a dream and a nightmare, because of his treatment towards his people. A man who wears
down his people like water falling on a rock or had pushed them to wars like so many arrows. Hearing
this Enkidu becomes enraged and goes to challenge Gilgamesh. They fight and in the end neither win
nor lose the challenge. Both men realize they are equals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

cedar forest. Ignoring pleas from his mother, and his counselors, Gilgamesh leaves for the forest with
Enkidu. Once outside the forest, Enkidu begins to beg Gilgamesh to stay out, but once again
Gilgamesh ignores the pleas. Once he enters the forest he s struck by, what is believed to be a spell,
and sleeps for many days. Once awake he begins on the journey again to find Huwawa. They find and

Starry Night By Vincent Van Gogh
A Cypress Tree in the Midst of the Stars
Vincent Van Gogh, the Dutch artist who painted Starry Night, was disrespected and unappreciated for
his works during his life. However, today he is considered one of the greatest Dutch painters. Today,
his work is known for its detail, beauty, and emotion. One might claim that Vincent Van Gogh s
painting Starry Night depicts his supposed insanity. However, his painting Starry Night depicts his
feelings of isolation, his feelings of alienation, and the appreciation he thought he would soon achieve
during his lifetime, though each of which do not necessarily depict insanity. Van Gogh s painting
represents his feelings of isolation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starry Night accurately depicts the feelings of loneliness that everyone can relate to at some point
during their lifetime. Van Gogh s works may not have received the attention they deserved during his
lifetime, but today his works receive the recognition they deserve. His feelings as a struggling artist
are apparent through the dark colors and the enormous cypress tree which captures the viewer s
attention. The darker colors represent darker feelings such as feelings of isolation and loneliness,
while the cooler colors represent sadness and depression. The colors are an accurate depiction of Van
Gogh s feelings. These feelings of depression and isolation led Van Gogh to the point of admitting
himself into an asylum. Of course, an asylum is not meant for interaction with other people, rather it is
meant to isolate the patients from harming other people or themselves because of their illness, thus
Van Gogh s attempt to alleviate his feelings of depression and loneliness seem in vain. Furthermore,
Van Gogh felt alienated from the other artists of his time. The little houses, for example, are all
painted with dark colors to express that the townspeople are asleep and ignorant to the feelings of
isolation that Van Gogh had. Lee claims in her analysis of Starry Night, [...] the sleepy village
represents the rest of the world, unaware of whatever raging passions and agony Van Gogh was going
through at that moment. Perhaps this [raging passion and

This is a 2 parent 1 child home with several concerns. The parents are successful in their employment

are two theories that could be used to help strengthen and restructure this family the social learning
family intervention and individual cognitive behavioral therapy. As noted in Kilpatrick Holland (2009)
the social learning family treatment approach has been successfully engaged with a variety of families
and with many levels of family needs. This model enables the practitioner to utilize a well structured
series of intervention strategies yet allows for the necessary flexibility when working with diverse,

Disadvantages Of Technology And Media
Impacts of Technology and Media Baym (2015), Murthy (2013), and Andrejevic (2013) together
demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages that technology and media have on today s society.
These three authors provide multiple thoughts that relate to each other, but also have different
outlooks on many other points. Social media allows the immediate spread of information. While
Twitter has negative effects on humans, some research shows that there it is possible to have positive
outcomes as well. Murthy (2013) focuses on how Twitter has helped shape communication in today s
world. Unlike most social media sites, Twitter uses a 140 character count to ensure messages are
concise. Translating complex thoughts into just one hundred or so words can be challenging for most,
but the message will turn out just as powerful, if not more. Baym (2015) stated that new technology
could have a positive impact on families In the context of contemporary digital media, the hope
remains that new communication technologies will bring families and loved ones together (p. 41). For
example, if a child had something to say to their parents that was very important, they might feel more
comfortable doing it through technology. People find it easier to text or post something rather than
saying it face to face because it gives people more time to choose the perfect wording. Once a person
say something verbally, there is no delete key to take back the words that were said. New forms of
technology and media are being used without forethought, which is causing mania, panic, and
misinformation. Baym (2013) proposes different theories to support the various consequences of
machines. Technological determinism being one of her perspectives, argues that machines change
humans (Baym, 2015, p. 27). An example of machines altering humans would be the constant desire
to have the newest technological device. Not only is it a negative aspect to be controlled by machines,
but it can also be detrimental to the human character to believe that in order to function properly one
must have the most advanced machine by their side. Similarly to Baym (2015), Andrejevic (2013)
discusses the dangers of infoglut in today s society. Infoglut

Positive Impact Of Technology
Technology is always advancing, and people use it almost everywhere. It s used in jobs, homes, and
everyday life. Recently technology also has made an immense impact on the way people learn. Many
people have different opinions on how to use technology, and if it is a good tool for information. Some
believe the use of the internet can help with creativity, and comprehensive. Other believe that through
using internet imagination is lessened, and that it leaves students not understanding what was read.
Technology can have positive, and negative results, it also had many different tests and studies done to
see the impacts. When using technology for learning, many people have explained the positive
outcome that is made. It was shown that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although there was positive impacts from video games, there was negatives as well. Playing violent
videos has lead to people becoming more aggressive in real life, and leading kids to be less sensitive
to real life problems (Wolpert). When reading, and finding information is done online students won t
read as fully as they need to. A university professor has explained that Google is not enough to find
the information you need, and if the teachers don t help the kids slow down and read deeply, they won
t comprehend what they are reading (Simpson). If students aren t understanding what they are reading,
because they have not read deeply enough, it will not benefit their learning. Wiring classrooms for
internet access does not enhance learning (Wolpert). Another downside to technology is false
information, and distraction. With internet always at your fingertips, it is obvious that it can cause
distractions keeping you from learning, and the information you receive may not be the most valuable
either (Skovira). Many believe that the internet is not going to have the resources you need, and that
using technology isn t going to better anybodies learning. To demonstrate the impacts of technology
on our learning, good and bad, researches have completed studies and tests. In one study, researchers
were able to predict future laparoscopic surgeon, based upon the skill they exhibited while
participating in video games. Another study included

An Analysis on Loneliness Let me tell you this: If you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, it s
not because they enjoy solitude. It s because they have tried to blend into the world before and people

Disappointment in life. Loneliness and disappointment are universal struggles suffered by mankind
since the beginning of time. Loneliness and disappointment are so common that every person will feel

For some people, these feelings are brief. For others loneliness and disappointment follow them

Mood In Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing
Much Ado About Nothing is a comedy by Shakespeare about love and misunderstandings between
several characters. Claudio and Hero are in love but Claudio is led to believe that Hero has been
unfaithful while Beatrice and Benedick both love each other but will not admit it. Since the story is a
comedy that deals with serious issues such as infidelity and deceit, the mood shifts often between
positive and negative moods, as shown in my diagram. In the diagram, the closer the point is to the
top, the more positive the mood was during the scene and the closer the point is to the bottom, the
more negative the mood was. While some scenes only had positive moments, others had both positive
and negative. These scenes placement on the diagram reflects the average mood of the entire scene.
This means that while a scene could have had a very positive moment, it will be placed lower on the
diagram if the scene also contained a negative moment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

why these scenes are placed so high. Scene 2 is placed slightly lower than scene 1 because, while it is

Diversifying Teaching Styles to Meet the Needs of All...
Diversifying Teaching Styles to Meet the Needs of All Learners When researching about education,
one often finds a great deal of literature and information about learning styles. Educators spend
countless hours studying their students in order to find out how they learn best. All students have
needs when it comes to how they learn and educators must be able to meet those needs in order to
promote successful learning in their classrooms. This (paper/article) will focus on teaching strategies
and how to vary them so that each learning style preference is addressed, therefore increasing the level
of achievement of each student and making learning a successful outcome in the classroom.

These suggestions will increase the amount of learning for students in your classroom. There have
been several publications written on the topic of teaching styles and sifting through all the information
can be tedious. The first, and most obvious, place to start would be to discuss a little about how
learning occurs. The brain is a complex organ that scientists are still studying. Much has been learned
about the brain, but much more needs to be researched. One thing that has been studied a great deal is
memory and how it works. All human beings use their memory to learn. Information that has been
learned was processed in the short term memory and stored in the long term memory. We retrieve the
information through recall, recognition, and encoding specificity. Recall is a simple retrieval of
information. Recognition involves a set of pre generated stimuli presented to learners for a decision or
judgment (Driscoll, 2000). For example, when one hears the words Oh say can you see... one
automatically recognizes it as the opening line to the national anthem. The encoding specificity
principle states that whatever cues are to facilitate encoding will also serve as the best retrieval cues
for remembering (Driscoll, 2000). For example, wearing the same clothes to take a test as when
studying for the test will increase the likelihood of recalling the information

Dbr Case
Based on the information in this case analysis, what are the types of threats DBR may be facing?
DBR is facing various kinds of threats like one from its competitors who could try to steal the
intellectual property of DBR and other from the advanced hackers who may be against the offshore oil
drilling projects and could target DBR for their role in those projects.
Corporate Theft Sabotage
Recently DBR released their advanced robotic prototype at an international tradeshow. Industry
experts have termed this prototype as the most advanced robotic system and also suggest that this
prototype is at least 5 years ahead of what DBR s competition has to offer. Because of this reason,
DBR fear that their competitors could try and steal their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Espionage through advanced persistent threat (APT)
Advanced persistent threat (APT) is most critical information security threat. Competitor companies
could try such attacks with intent of having ongoing access to DBR s research data. In these attacks,
the data is not damaged or deleted, but is stolen without raising any alarms. This is the most advanced
and critical threat because with APT attacks, competitors can have unrestricted access to DBR s
network and data for as long as they desire.
Corporate Theft Sabotage
The threat which DBR is facing from its competitors is another significant threat. Before the launch of
the new prototype robot, DBR s competitors had an upper hand in the market which they lost once the
DBR announced their new prototype. Network attacks from the DBR s competitors could be aimed at
either at stealing the intellectual property so that they can again get in front in the robotics market or
those attacks could be for damaging or corrupting the research data so that DBR is not able to function
as efficiently. Such network attacks are also capable of damaging the company s infrastructure.
Competitor s intent behind these threats is straightforward, they want to get ahead in the market either
by stealing the information from DBR or by hampering DBR s functioning through data and
infrastructure damage.

My Stranger Experience By Dr. John Howard, At The Dinah...
For my Stranger Experience, I went to a lecture called Picturing Queer Souths , which was taught by
Dr. John Howard, at the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center. He is a professor at King s College in
London, and he is also a University of Alabama alumnus. During this lecture, he discussed the
different aspects of LGBT photography and how sexuality can be expressed through that medium,
whether there are members of the community physically present in that photographs or not. There was
a specific focus on southern photographers that are members of the LGBT community, not only in the
American South, but also in relatively southern parts of the world, like South Africa for example.
Through his lecture, Dr. Howard explored the idea that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The experience of attending the lecture was incredibly interesting to me. Personally, I identify as a
heterosexual woman, so this was actually the first time I ever visited a place that was focused on
LGBT life experiences and art. Interestingly enough, although the space was not necessarily queer
exclusive, I believe that a majority of the attendees were members of the queer community. This led to
several questions after the lecture pertaining to personal experiences from members of the community
and how they related to the lecture that was shared. I think that one of the aspects of strangeness I
experienced was the fact that I did not feel comfortable asking a question that I had at the end of the
lecture. There was nothing necessarily telling me that I could not ask a question, in fact, it was
encouraged for the most part. I simply felt like I was in a space that was specifically for queer people
and that it was not my place to speak up, since I typically have the privilege of having my voice heard
daily.
Another aspect that felt strange to me was the overt sexuality of many of the photographs that were
shown. I grew up in a very conservative Christian household, where I was taught that sexuality was
something that was private and sex itself was reserved for married couples. Many of the photos shown
during Dr. Howard s lecture showed partial or complete nudity, or were candid photos of LGBT
couples participating in sex acts. This was

When I was born in 1999 Serena and Venus Williams were on their way to becoming international
tennis stars. Apparently, my parents were avid tennis stars at the time, and so they named me Katrina,
and a few years later they named my little sister Serena. Now Serena and I have never played a game
of tennis together, in fact I don t even think she s played a game of tennis ever. I really doubt that my
parents knew that they were going to conceive another child in 2003, therefor I find this short
anecdote to be completely false. I just think my dad is old and as it was 18 years ago he s forgotten.
My dad also told me how my parents nearly settled on the names Maya and Sara. Hearing this makes
me somewhat grateful for my name, seeing as Sarah s, are a dime a dozen in this world. While I do
find the name Maya intriguing, I don t really see myself as a Maya. One aspect of my name that I love
is my middle names, and yes, I mean middle names as in two. When I was younger I thought it was so
cool to have two middle names, and my dad s story behind the first one never failed to make me feel
special.
My dad s choice of Jewel, because at the time I was as precious as a jewel. My mother rounded off my
middle name with a simple Ann, which stemmed from her middle name. Combined together they
make a somewhat unique Jewel Ann. I think I still like my middle name, its different, I think that s
why I like it. The cherry on top of the name sundae is my last name

The Soviet Union
Gain of Prestige The Soviet Union was already setting up a unique standard of gender roles and
gender equality, so the reinforced emphasis on fertility created an interesting return to traditional
gender stereotypes. Despite the resurgence of the traditional ideal, the 1936 Decree was able to
emphasize motherhood and nurturing without limiting women to the more feminine role. Instead, what
occurred was the super heroine role, where the women s maternity and industrial capital were both
valued. Women were given both higher recognition for their role as a mother and also allowed to
remain independent through her industrial power. The emphasis on the mother figure was seen
throughout the whole 1936 decree, but most blatantly through the Mother Heroine awards. The
Mother Heroine awards were an official government run propaganda scheme set up by the Stalinist
regime, in the form of medals given out to mothers based on the amount of children they had. A
mother with five to six children received a Motherhood Medal. A mother with seven to nine children
received a Mother Glory award, and a mother with ten or more children gained the highest
achievement, the Mother Heroine award. Those who received the Mother Heroine award were also
given a special certificate of the Praesidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. The Mother Heroine
awards didn t offer economic compensation for child bearing, but they did offer official, government
approved stamps of prestige for

Prison Recidivism Essay
Prisons have been in the news recently focusing on issues such as mass incarceration and rioting.
Many politicians have called for the use of super prisons in order to accommodate the drastically
increasing inmate population. Some individuals, however, have advocated for the development of
stronger rehabilitation and reform programs. The purpose of these programs is to prevent recidivism
and to help reintegrate an offender back into society. Education is a prime factor in which these ideas
can be achieved. One overlooked educational institution is the prison library where inmates can keep
themselves occupied while locked away. Prison libraries are a useful and necessary investment in
educating and rehabilitating offenders to avoid recidivism and to lower growing incarceration rates.
Libraries that are available to inmates can boost their literacy rate and as a result, it can help make
getting a job easier. In the England and Wales, the prison population is around 85,000 and around
three quarters cannot read, write, or count to the standard expected of an eleven year old (May, 2014).
Many jobs require literacy beyond that making it difficult for those to find work once out of prison.

A prison library can be looked at as an institution targeted towards those who have already committed
crimes. Inmates who have access to libraries have the resources to improve their education and
consequently, will be less likely to commit a crime in the future. Libraries do not act as a for profit
institution which is one of the main causes as to why they are massively underfunded. Although,
libraries can prove to be economically beneficial in the long term because it provides an educational
solution in which recidivism can be prevented. It requires a lot of money to incarcerate an individual
and a decreasing prison population will be cost

Lark Ascending Analysis
Compare and Contrast Lark Ascending by Vaughn Williams and The First Cuckoo In Spring by Delius
Florence Bird The Lark Ascending was written in 1914 however the score was thoroughly revised
between the years 1919 1920 with the first performance being on December 15th 1920. The
performance lasts for approximately 13 minutes and the orchestra consists of two flutes, an oboe, two
clarinets, two bassoons, two horns, a triangle, and strings. The piece was inspired by traditional
English folk song and also the works of George Meredith. This is shown in the pastoral style of the

It is opened by a sustained major seventh chord on the tonic (C major) to establish a misty morning
scene. The oboe continues to introduce a bird like pattern followed by a triple meter slow string
melody with drones richly harmonising in the cellos and basses. This rhythm; crotchet, minim,
crotchet minim, is widely used in Delius s works. There are passing tones which creates discordance
at times when played against the harmonic roots. The strings flutter on the final held note and then the
clarinet plays the traditional cuckoo call. Throughout the middle section which is based around the
Norwegian folk song, In Ola Valley this cuckoo call is reintroduced several times. The strings play a
small looping pattern before the end of the managing to create simple yet rich new harmonies. A major
chord dies away to silence. This ending is also similar to Lark Ascending as both pieces fade away

Gondwana
Gondwana, the southern half of the ancient supercontinent Pangea and a supercontinent in its own
right, was composed of the continents and landmasses that we now call Antarctica, South America,
Africa, Madagascar, Australia, New Zealand, the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian subcontinent. A
supercontinent is a large landmass that is made up of several continents and a subcontinent is a large
distinguishable part of a continent, an example being the part of Asia which contains India, Pakistan
and Bangladesh. Gondwana was first formed between 570 510 Mya (million years ago) and then
combined with another supercontinent, Laurasia, to form Pangea. It then split from Pangea between
280 200 Mya, with different resources stating different timeframes for this split. Around 180 165 Mya,
Gondwana started to split and the continents started drifting to where they are today. Back when
Gondwana existed, the climate on Earth was milder than what it is today and the average temperature
was significantly higher than the average temperature on Earth now. As a result of this climate, much
of Gondwana was covered in lush temperate rainforests. The geological event that caused these
continents to combine together and split apart from each other is called continental drift. The

Finding Meaning in Albert Camus’ The Plague Essay
Finding Meaning in Albert Camus The Plague Socrates, a Greek philosopher, once said that the
unexamined life is not worth living (Apology 38b). Like Socrates, Albert Camus believed that a man
needs to live meaningfully. In his novel The Plague Camus creates characters who are forced to think,
reflect, and assume responsibility for living as they battle an epidemic of bubonic plague that is
ravaging the Algerian port of Oran. For ten months as the outbreak isolates the city from the rest of the
world, each of the citizens reacts in a unique way. Camus main characters undergo both individual and
social transformations. Dr. Bernard Rieux, the narrator and central character, is one of the first people

Rieux believes that man has to do what is necessary while he is alive and must believe in humanity: . .
. Rieux was thinking it was only right that those whose desires are limited to man and his humble yet
formidable love should enter, if only now and then, into their reward (Camus 301). When the gates of
Oran are opened, Rieux writes a chronicle of the plague hoping to teach others a lesson. He wants
them to witness the admirable qualities in men and the injustice they endure. As a doctor he knows
that the plague bacillus can lie dormant for long periods and then resurface. Although man may never
be the victor over the plague and the loss of life it inflicts, he can better manage life s adversities in the
future. Another important character is Raymond Rambert, a Parisian journalist, who goes through a
metamorphosis over the course of the epidemic. He finds himself trapped in Oran when the gates of
the city are closed. This determined young man tries to escape in any way possible because he feels
that Oran s problems are none of his concern since he is an outsider. Rambert s appeals to the civil
authorities are unsuccessful. He asks Dr. Rieux to help his cause and is enraged when Rieux refuses.
He then offers money to smugglers for his escape. Later during an exchange Rieux tells him: . . . for
nothing in the world would I try to dissuade you from what you re going to do; it seems to me
absolutely right and proper.

Discovering and fulfilling attractive requirements creates a wide range of possbilities for
differentiation. A product which merely satisfies the must be and one dimensional requirements is
perceived as average and therefore interchangeable (Hinterhuber/Aichner/Lobenwein 1994).
In the following we will explain how product requirements can be classified by means of a
questionnaire. The ski industry, where more than 1500 customers were interviewed, is used to
demonstrate how product requirements are ascertained, how a questionnaire is constructed, how the
results are evaluated and interpreted and used as the basis for product development.
Step one: Identification of product requirements Walk in you customer s shoes The starting point for

Therefore, the average human does not have much knowledge on mental illnesses and how they affect
the patient s life. Doing this would lessen society s fear of those with mental illnesses and therefore,
lessen the stigma. Another solution would be to be more compassionate and caring towards those with
mental illnesses. These people are already struggling a lot, and could use the love and respect they
deserve. Also, getting those struggling professional help can lessen the chances of those with mental

The Negative Effects Of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
When a man or a women returns from a combat deployment overseas they come and everyone is
happy to see them, and this has been happening since the war in Iraq and Afghanistan wars started.
But what they don t realize is that that man or woman may not be so happy to be home but they don t
quite understand why. After past wars such as World War I this type of thing was called war fatigue
and they were told they were fine. But this isn t the cause in many men and women returning home
from today s wars. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder can result from a number of different traumatic
events, but the intensity and duration of some people s reactions can be quite different but that also has
many factors. The negative effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is affecting families and the
effects it has on families of patients. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder isn t something new that has just
appeared it s something people have been dealing with for as long as we have understood what it
really is. When a father or a mother comes home from war, their children might not understand why
mom or dad is always angry now or why they yell so much, verbal abuse and physical abuse is
something that has become very common in people with PTSD. With this the spouse or loved one may
suffer the same or similar abuse while just trying to care for a loved one not understanding why they
may be this way. Another one of many ways PTSD is affecting family s is the divorce rates have gone

On many accounts, Odysseus astute nature is revealed; for example, when the Greek army was

How Did George Orwell Influence Imperialism
Best distinguished by his cautionary novels on the rise of communism, George Orwell was frequently
influenced by his upbringing, careers, and experiences fighting fascism. Born Eric Arthur Blair,
George Orwell was born in British India to a family he would later famously described as lower upper
middle class . Academically inclined, he was able to obtain a scholarship to St. Cyprian s, one of the
best preparatory schools in England, although he often showed loathing towards the strict policies and
teachers at the school. However, in the later years of school his academic interest slipped and with it
his grades. With little options George Orwell joined the Indian imperial police and was sent to Burma.

In Shooting an Elephant, Orwell introduces the reality of a country, such as England, whose
expansionist doctrine results in the suppression and mistreatment of the native inhabitants in their
colonies. The short story is narrated by a British police officer stationed in Burma, a British occupied
territory. The story begins with an acknowledgement of the horrible conditions in which the Burmese
people live and the officer describes his own hatred towards Britain for causing such a state, The
wretched prisoners huddling in the stinking cages of the lock ups, the grey, cowed faces of the long
term convicts, the scarred buttocks of the men who had been flogged with bamboos (Orwell). By
having a British officer admit the flaws in Britain s imperial system, Orwell is telling his readers that
the system of imperialism is so cruel that even those who reap the benefits of imperialism don t
approve of it. Through this Orwell points out the double sided nature of the imperial system, This
paradox governs the of the men who serve the system. Their power is based on conventional action.
Loyalty cannot be demanded it has to be force. (De Lange 4). In result, Orwell is showing that there is
no good side to imperialism, the idea of colonizing and increasing the wealth of one s home country

According to the words of Aristotle, a city state is viewed as a natural organization that is comprised
of a large sum of individuals who share a common goal but hold unique identities. He mentioned the
following, For a city is by nature a mass of people; as it becomes more and more unified, first the city
will turn into a household, and then the household will turn into just one person for we would say that
a household is more unified than a city, and one person more unified than a household. And so, even if
someone were capable of completely unifying a city, he should not do it, since he would destroy the

Aristotle addresses the question about who should be fit to rule. He answers this by stating that good
ruling is done by those who are intelligent have learned the necessarily skills to rule a city state.
Aristotle states the following, First, we must understand the received formulae of oligarchy and
democracy, and the oligarchic and democratic justice; for everyone touches on some sort of justice,
but the make only limited progress and do not describe the whole of what is fully just. Justice seems to
be equality, for instance, and indeed it is but for equals, not for everyone. Again, inequality seems to
be just; and so it is but for unequals, not for everyone. But these omit this part equality or inequality
for whom and so make the wrong judgment. The reason is that they are giving judgment in their own
case, and most people are practically always bad judges in their own cases. (Aristotle, page 302) The
passage illustrates the inequality which gives rise to the disproportionate representation of the
majority. Given the circumstances, only citizens (those born from the elite) are the sole commanders

Invention Of The Camera And How It Revolutionized History
The Invention of the Camera and How it Revolutionized History Sense the invention of the camera in
1826 photography has been used to document everything from family portraits, social injustice,
sporting events, world news, expressions of joy and sorrow, and hundreds of monumental moments.
The camera has given man the power to reveal the truth visually. Throughout history photographs
have made enormous impacts on social consciousness and ultimately shaped public opinion on many
pressing issues in society. Although photography is often considered a casual pastime, the invention of
the camera has contributed to many aspects of history, science, and other important pieces of todays
world.
Before the invention of the camera, news traveled through word of mouth, writing, telegrams, and
other forms of communication. Often times important moments were depicted through paintings, and
drawings. Unfortunately, because of opinion and misinterpretation, many of those moments, had been
depicted incorrectly. Take, for example the Boston Massacre which took place in the late 1700 s
before the invention of the camera. In order to inform people of what is now known as the shot heard
around the world, Paul Revere, a famous American revolutionist made an engraving of the scene.
People are accustomed to trusting the accuracy of historic documents, however the composition of this
the engraving contains several inaccuracies that serious researchers should be aware of. In Fact when

Needle Exchange Programs, Safe Injection Sites And Address...
Needle exchange programs have long been a controversial subject with both the general population
and government lawmakers. The primary objective for needle exchange programs (NEPs) is to prevent
the spread of blood borne disease and is very successful in doing so. But, issues of morality due to the
perception of drug enablement and the stigma of intravenous drug users (IDUs) and their potential
effects on the decline of society are continually used as arguments for those against NEPs. It has been
proven through many studies that these programs not only reduce harms associated with intravenous
drug use, they are also cost effective and reduce the circulation of used syringes to the general
population. Beyond epidemiological efforts, NEPs also provide a de stigmatized center for gathering
and offers health services such as HIV testing, counselling and referrals to treatment for drug
addiction. This paper aims to highlight the efficacy of needle exchange programs, safe injection sites
and address the social and political issues associated with them.
Intravenous drug users are some of the individuals most susceptible for contracting and transmitting
blood borne diseases such as the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B and hepatitis C. In
Canada, there was an estimated 71,300 cases of HIV at the end of 2011 with an incidence of
approximately 2,250 to 4,100 cases. IDUs account for 13.7% of Canadians living with HIV.

The Eye Of The Needle
The Eye of the Needle
The Eye of the Needle was always an iconic place along the Missouri until May 1997 when it
collapsed under suspicious circumstances. On the expedition of Lewis and Clark, the White Cliffs of
Montana was a signature site described by Lewis. One of the extraordinary landmarks was the Eye of
the Needle, which Meriwether Lewis first described its scenery by comparing its magnificent rock
formations to elegant ranges of lofting freestone buildings, having their parapets well stocked with
statuary (Burns, 1997). This was 1800 s talk, which doesn t make sense to most people nowadays.
Looking at an old picture of the Eye of the Needle that my grandfather took while rafting the
Missouri, I can see the beauty that people raved about.
The rock structure is so perplexing. The arch made up of multiple boulders doesn t look like anything
that nature could ever make naturally. It defies gravity standing on the very top of the rock wall lining
the rushing Missouri. The light grey structure has thousands of crevices that formed themselves from
natural wear and tear over time. 200 feet up, it towers over the Missouri River keeping a watchful eye

When blogger Chris describes this beautiful place he said,
The Eye of the Needle could be seen a few miles upstream while floating the Missouri River, and
from a distance it appeared to be just that a tiny window allowing some of the sky to shine through.
The structure was only about 11 feet high,

Business Continuity Research Methods
Business Continuity Research Research methods should contain research questions and hypothesis,
present a research design, discuss participants, instruments used, the procedure, a data analysis plan,
and the sample size justification (Anon., n.d.). The research design methods should be discussed, such
as whether it was quantitative, qualitative, or mixed. The quantitative method assesses the participant
responses on a measure. The qualitative method is a semi structured interview that gets transcribed.
The mixed method is a mix of the quantitative and the qualitative methods. Discussion of the
participants should discuss the sample of the population, how they were selected, why they were
selected, and the method used to select them. The instruments used in the study should be discussed,
what types of instruments, the scales and subscales, how the scales are computed, and the reliability
and validity of those scales. There should also be reference to the researchers that designed the scales
that were used in the study. The procedure, explaining how the instruments should be used, should be
discussed in detail where the reader understands every step of the process. The data analysis plan
should discuss how the data was analyzed, including statistical tests, statistical assumptions of those
tests, and the justification for the statistical tests. The sample size justification should be based on
criteria of the power selected, .80 for example, the alpha level, .05 for

My Observation Of Red Lobster Seafood Restaurant
September 1, 2017 I was hungry for some seafood around noon and wanted something exquisite in
flavor at a huge quantity. The decision was made to tag along and join in on the atmosphere of Red
Lobster seafood restaurant, when arriving there I was greeted with a welcome and a smile by an
employee who had the title of hostess. The job of a hostess inquires taking guests to the proper seating
in the restaurant for the most efficient dining experience for a mutual standing between guest and
server with taking orders and food delivery timing. Since I went when the lunch crowd arrived I was
placed on a wait for five minutes to get a table. The hostess got busy while searching for areas to be
seated and the manager stepped in for assistance in finding guests to their tables and I was one of
those (12:08 pm). After arriving at my table my waitress Debbie arrived to greet me with a ... Show

guests (extremely overwhelmed with taking care of her section). (12:33 pm) Debbie rolls by with a

Forgiveness And The Future
Forgiving is often a conscious decision to let go of the pain, anger and bitterness arising from hurtful
situations, then move on and live our lives the best we can despite the past. Forgiveness can take time
and it can be difficult, but it s essential for boosting happiness, mental and physical health.
Forgiveness is a funny thing; it warms the heart and cools the sting. William Arthur Ward Forgiveness
does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future. Paul Boese.
The more I know, the less I understand. All the things I thought I knew, I m learning again. The more i
introspect the more ia become inexcusable, unforgivable. But i strive hard to forgive myself and to

The nature gives seasons. From morning to night, as from cradle to the grave, is but a succession of
changes so gentle and easy that we can scarcely mark their progress. The process of change and
challenge is always at work. For some change brings cheer, whereas for others it may mean moments
of chagrin. Both painful and pleasant, a shift from the established order to a new one is inevitable.
There is no monotony.
The breakup of joint family system in India is a case for study and a standing example of change that
has overtaken us so fast. The emergence of nuclear family is a telling tribute to the process of change
over which we have no control whatsoever. That the Indian society is at the crossroads is not a matter
of fiction, but a vigorous reality.
The glamour and glitter that we see around is the result of consistent and conscious efforts that have
gone into the making of changing patterns of society everywhere under the sun. Change is not made
without inconvenience, even from worse to better. Richard Hooker.

even pressure to adjust to the new realities that time throws

The MLA and APA are two styles that have many similarities but the two styles also have many
differences in format and in the way the sources are citied. Both styles very are similar in many ways,
but are used for different subjects for example APA is predominately used in the social sciences
studies ,while MLA is predominately used for liberal arts and humanities Both MLA and APA keep to
twofold divided pages, have a 12 point textual style, and 1 inch margins on all sides. An APA format
paper comprises of four sections: cover sheet, unique, principle body and references. The theoretical is

Macro Social Worker
The role of a social worker is to promote the well being of people in diverse environments. The array
of settings which a social worker uses to promote their skills are known as micro, mezzo, and macro.
By utilizing these settings social workers are able to endorse the equal rights, protection,
opportunities, obligations, and social benefits, which is what social justice entails as stated in the
textbook Human Behavior in the Macro Social Environment. Social workers seek to change the lives
of those who are oppressed by providing solutions to the dilemma that lies in front of them. Social
workers play many roles such as identifying if a situation is right or wrong and if something is wrong
how it may become a right. They also counsel in order

American popular culture. Movies such as Birth of a Nation, Young Mr. Lincoln, Abe Lincoln in
Illinois, and Lincoln have given audiences different glimpses of the sixteenth president. The legend of

The word rhetoric has various meanings. Rhetoric can be easily explained as the ways in which signs
influence people. As history goes on we see the rhetoric changes over time. Rhetoric has been studied
for a countless number of years. The beginnings of rhetoric starts off in the roots of the Western World
with the Greeks. Political rhetoric can date back to the days of the Greeks and the Romans. The
Roman Republic relief on writing and letters to produce legislation for it s citizens. The printing press
aloud for mass production of political news. The radio made political stories more intimate especially
for the listeners at home. Television gave viewers an image of politics in action. Finally the internet
brought the world together and made more aware of international news. Rhetoric has always been an
essential to political communication for hundreds of years. Movies are not just clips that move and tell
a story but, they are also clips that can move an audience. We need movies to open are eyes to the
implication our our realities (Brummett, 6). Now we we focus on rhetoric and pop culture. We
unknowingly witness rhetoric in everyday life. To first understand how rhetoric influences Lincoln
films we must begin looking at one of the building blocks. Everything is a s sign in rhetoric. In the
rhetorical world a sign is something that has meaning and can allow us to be remind of something
else. Signs will be a crucial

Evaluation of Various Numerical Methods for Option Pricing...
In finance, a derivative is a financial instrument whose value is derived from one or more underlying
assets. An option is a contract which gives the owner the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell the
asset at a specified strike price at the specified date. The derivative itself is just a contract between two
or more parties. Its value is determined by fluctuations in the value of the underlying asset. This price
is chosen so that the value of the contract to both sides is zero at the outset, which means that the price
is fair, so neither party is taking advantage of the other. Hence, numerical methods are needed for
pricing options in cases where analytic solutions are either unavailable or not easily computable. The
subject of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This method is widely used as it is able to handle a variety of conditions. Finite difference methods
were first applied to option pricing by Eduardo Schwartz in1977. In general, finite difference methods
are used to price options by approximating the differential equation that describes how the option
price moves over time by a set of difference equations. This method arises since the option value can
be modeled by partial differential equations, such as the Black Scholes PDE. This approach has the
same level of complexity tree methods. The application of Monte Carlo method to option pricing was
by Phelim Boyle in 1977. In terms of theory, Monte Carlo valuation relies on risk neutral valuation.
The technique is to generate several thousand possible random price paths for the underlying asset and
via simulation, and to calculate the average payoff of each path. This approach is particularly useful in
the valuation of options with complicated features, which would be difficult to value through
straightforward Black Scholes style or tree model. ( reference [3] Valuation of Options)
Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. The comparison of accuracy and
consistence are presented and suitable method for each situation is discussed.
Then the report briefly goes through some exotic options and implements the numerical solutions with
binomial tree method. These options, includes American option which can be exercised any time
before the

Nacle Physiology
In the human body, there are two kidneys located behind the peritoneum, on either side of the spine at
the lowest level of the ribcage [1]. Each kidney is made up of millions of nephrons, which drain into a
series of collecting ducts in the ureter and bladder. Each nephron consists of a glomerulus, which is
made up of a system of tiny blood vessels used to filter blood plasma. Each glomerulus is attached to
an unbranched tubule [1]. In the tubule, chemicals and water are either added or removed according to
the body s needs. The products that are not needed are removed via urine. This urine production is
regulated in a variety of ways including the use of hormones and sympathetic nerve stimulation. These
hormones, such as arginine vasopressin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which disrupt the balance leading to dehydration, polydipsia and nocturia. There are however, options

What might anthropologists conclude about our 21st century society if these shows were their only
glimpse into how we lived our lives? Francine Prose ponders this same question in her essay Voting

adults might realize if they were to more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority of reality television shows are based around competition, which means that, in general,
you will have one winner and a group of losers. Prose suggests that the primary lesson to be learned
from the eat or be eaten mentality of many of these shows is that the laws of natural selection are even
more brutal, inflexible, and sensible than one might find in Darwin s theory of survival of the fittest;
furthermore, Prose adds that it is perfectly acceptable, even accepted, for the contestants to marshal all
their skills and resources to succeed in a struggle that only one person can win ( Voting 22). For many,
this might seem perfectly acceptable. Why, after all, play a game unless you want to win? However,
such a question avoids the very important fact that most of these shows also follow a curious
interpretation of the values of team work in this case each player working for the common goal of
winning as a team, when, in the end, there can only be one winner. As a result, individuals are often
seeking inventive ways to deceive, confuse, and undermine their fellow teammates with episode after
episode of these various shows featuring contestants who charm other characters into letting them
stick around while always ready to crush anyone who stands in the way of their success ( Mirror 18).
Rushdie suggests that this all occurs in an inverted ethical universe where worse is

Research Caramel is an intermediate product of a carbohydrate that is being decomposed by heat. It has many different compositions, all under the same name of caramel , depending on the carbohydrate it originated from. Caramel is a large molecule when compared to the other two major molecules in the experiment, glucose and phosphoric acid, so therefore it is least likely to diffuse through the dialysis tube membrane. However, in a study done by the American Pharmaceutical Association, it was shown that caramel can slowly pass through a dialysis tube membrane over the course of many hours, provided that the water is changed or the bag is placed in running water. ... The results of the experiment support the first part of my hypothesis, as even from the one minute mark, the BTB test returned a result of acidic, which indicates that there was phosphoric acid in the distilled water. If the phosphoric acid hadn t moved through the dialysis tubing s membrane, then the water would have been neutral. My first hypothesis was also correct in that I predicted that the caramel molecules wouldn t be able to permeate the bag. • 3. Luther Standing Bear, A Native American Author,... Luther Standing Bear was a Native American author, philosopher and actor. Luther Standing Bear was a master at using rhetoric, because with it, he benefits not only his people, but also the human identity. Luther Standing Bear contributed all of his efforts to get the Native Americans a place in a world that was no longer theirs. Luther Standing Bear is a pioneer in what would eventually become a movement for Civil Rights. The ideas that he was using did not involve insults but rather, pointed out views that others hadn t seen or thought of before. Instead of using hatred and insults, he used his wisdom and his life experiences to express his views on the world, and why big changes had to be executed immediately. Standing Bear uses the opportune moment in the early 20th century, while civil rights was at its infancy to persuade the white man that the Indian was no different than he was. Luther Standing bear was born in 1868, on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Luther Standing Bear s real name was Ota K te (Plenty Kill). For the first eleven years of his life, Standing Bear was taught the traditional ways of the Lakota. This meant that he learned how to hunt at a young age; he also learned the tales and the language of his people. Being taught the ways of the Lakota, Standing Bear would soon be introduced to world that made it impossible for the Indian to survive. Selman Waksman first used the term in 1941 when describing the small molecules made by microorganisms that prevent the growth of other microorganisms (Clardy et al). Antibiotics helped control the infection which allowed many who were injured a second chance to live. The antibiotic that was first discovered and used to cure war infections was penicillin. The peptidoglycan coat in bacterial cells is formed by a crystal lattice structure that forms linear chains from a pair of alternating amino acids. The cross linking of peptidoglycan strands by the transpeptidase enzyme forms an uneven cell wall. Antibiotics, notably penicillin, interfere with this cross linking, which destroys the bacteria cell wall. More specifically, antibiotics work by attaching to specific sites on the ribosome, which affects with the bacteria s function during protein synthesis. The small or 30S ribosomal subunit has binding sites for tRNA molecules. These sites are known as the aminoacyl (A), peptidyl (P), and exit (E) sites. The process known as decoding oversees base pairing between the codon of mRNA and the anticodon of tRNA at the A site, allowing the 30S subunit to distinguish between the similarities of the tRNAs (Brodersen et al). Because most antibiotics bind to ribosomes, its main target is the rRNA, which results in most of the binding sites being near the mRNA and the tRNA binding sites, or at sites that undergo structural rearrangements during the processes of decoding or translocation (Dallas et al). In all, the antibiotic prevents the bacterium from creating its cell wall, which essentially kills the bacterium (Brodersen et al). The appearance and spreading of antibiotic resistant pathogens have given rise to many studies involving the genetic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The darker colors represent darker feelings such as feelings of isolation and loneliness, while the cooler colors represent sadness and depression. The colors are an accurate depiction of Van Gogh s feelings. These feelings of depression and isolation led Van Gogh to the point of admitting himself into an asylum. Of course, an asylum is not meant for interaction with other people, rather it is meant to isolate the patients from harming other people or themselves because of their illness, thus Van Gogh s attempt to alleviate his feelings of depression and loneliness seem in vain. Disadvantages Of Technology And Media Impacts of Technology and Media Baym (2015), Murthy (2013), and Andrejevic (2013) together demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages that technology and media have on today s society. These three authors provide multiple thoughts that relate to each other, but also have different outlooks on many other points. Social media allows the immediate spread of information. While Twitter has negative effects on humans, some research shows that there it is possible to have positive outcomes as well. Murthy (2013) focuses on how Twitter has helped shape communication in today s world. Unlike most social media sites, Twitter uses a 140 character count to ensure messages are concise. Translating complex thoughts into just one hundred or so words can be challenging for most, but the message will turn out just as powerful, if not more. Baym (2015) stated that new technology could have a positive impact on families In the context of contemporary digital media, the hope remains that new communication technologies will bring families and loved ones together (p. 41). For example, if a child had something to say to their parents that was very important, they might feel more comfortable doing it through technology. People find it easier to text or post something rather than saying it face to face because it gives people more time to choose the perfect wording. Once a person say something verbally, there is no delete key to take back the words that were said. New forms of technology and media are being used without forethought, which is causing mania, panic, and misinformation. Baym (2013) proposes different theories to support the various consequences of machines. Technological determinism being one of her perspectives, argues that machines change humans (Baym, 2015, p. 27). An example of machines altering humans would be the constant desire to have the newest technological device. Not only is it a negative aspect to be controlled by machines, but it can also be detrimental to the human character to believe that in order to function properly one must have the most advanced machine by their side. Much has been learned about the brain, but much more needs to be researched. One thing that has been studied a great deal is memory and how it works. All human beings use their memory to learn. Information that has been learned was processed in the short term memory and stored in the long term memory. We retrieve the information through recall, recognition, and encoding specificity. Recall is a simple retrieval of information. Recognition involves a set of pre generated stimuli presented to learners for a decision or judgment (Driscoll, 2000). For example, when one hears the words Oh say can you see... one automatically recognizes it as the opening line to the national anthem. Gondwana Gondwana, the southern half of the ancient supercontinent Pangea and a supercontinent in its own right, was composed of the continents and landmasses that we now call Antarctica, South America, Africa, Madagascar, Australia, New Zealand, the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian subcontinent. A supercontinent is a large landmass that is made up of several continents and a subcontinent is a large distinguishable part of a continent, an example being the part of Asia which contains India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Gondwana was first formed between 570 510 Mya (million years ago) and then combined with another supercontinent, Laurasia, to form Pangea. It then split from Pangea between 280 200 Mya, with different resources stating different timeframes for this split. Around 180 165 Mya, Gondwana started to split and the continents started drifting to where they are today. Back when Gondwana existed, the climate on Earth was milder than what it is today and the average temperature was significantly higher than the average temperature on Earth now. As a result of this climate, much of Gondwana was covered in lush temperate rainforests. Finding Meaning in Albert Camus’ The Plague Essay Finding Meaning in Albert Camus The Plague Socrates, a Greek philosopher, once said that the unexamined life is not worth living (Apology 38b). Like Socrates, Albert Camus believed that a man needs to live meaningfully. In his novel The Plague Camus creates characters who are forced to think, reflect, and assume responsibility for living as they battle an epidemic of bubonic plague that is ravaging the Algerian port of Oran. When the gates of Oran are opened, Rieux writes a chronicle of the plague hoping to teach others a lesson. He wants them to witness the admirable qualities in men and the injustice they endure. As a doctor he knows that the plague bacillus can lie dormant for long periods and then resurface. Although man may never be the victor over the plague and the loss of life it inflicts, he can better manage life s adversities in the future. Another important character is Raymond Rambert, a Parisian journalist, who goes through a metamorphosis over the course of the epidemic. He finds himself trapped in Oran when the gates of the city are closed. This determined young man tries to escape in any way possible because he feels that Oran s problems are none of his concern since he is an outsider. Rambert s appeals to the civil authorities are unsuccessful. He asks Dr. Rieux to help his cause and is enraged when Rieux refuses. He then offers money to smugglers for his escape. • 45. Macro Social Worker The role of a social worker is to promote the well being of people in diverse environments. The array of settings which a social worker uses to promote their skills are known as micro, mezzo, and macro. By utilizing these settings social workers are able to endorse the equal rights, protection, opportunities, obligations, and social benefits, which is what social justice entails as stated in the textbook Human Behavior in the Macro Social Environment. Social workers seek to change the lives of those who are oppressed by providing solutions to the dilemma that lies in front of them. Social workers play many roles such as identifying if a situation is right or wrong and if something is wrong how it may become a right. They also counsel in order ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Lincoln s Representation Of Lincoln There has been a scant amount of research on how Abraham Lincoln has been illustrated in motion pictures. Yet, movies have a dominant clout on how Lincoln s images has been established in American popular culture. Movies such as Birth of a Nation, Young Mr. Lincoln, Abe Lincoln in Illinois, and Lincoln have given audiences different glimpses of the sixteenth president. The legend of Lincoln has been created and altered in film in oder to create a hero to fit the times. This paper will focus on Lincoln films over a 100 year time plan from Birth of a Nation to Lincoln. This research will also show how and why Lincoln s representation in film has changed over times. I will also discuss some of the historical context being the Lincoln ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word rhetoric has various meanings. The Roman Republic relief on writing and letters to produce legislation for it s citizens. The printing press aloud for mass production of political news. The radio made political stories more intimate especially for the listeners at home. Television gave viewers an image of politics in action. Finally the internet brought the world together and made more aware of international news. Rhetoric has always been an essential to political communication for hundreds of years. Movies are not just clips that move and tell a story but, they are also clips that can move an audience. We need movies to open are eyes to the implication our our realities (Brummett, 6). • 47. Evaluation of Various Numerical Methods for Option Pricing... In finance, a derivative is a financial instrument whose value is derived from one or more underlying assets. An option is a contract which gives the owner the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell the asset at a specified strike price at the specified date. The derivative itself is just a contract between two or more parties. Its value is determined by fluctuations in the value of the underlying asset. This price is chosen so that the value of the contract to both sides is zero at the outset, which means that the price is fair, so neither party is taking advantage of the other. Hence, numerical methods are needed for pricing options in cases where analytic solutions are either unavailable or not easily computable. The subject of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This method is widely used as it is able to handle a variety of conditions. Finite difference methods were first applied to option pricing by Eduardo Schwartz in1977. In general, finite difference methods are used to price options by approximating the differential equation that describes how the option price moves over time by a set of difference equations. This method arises since the option value can be modeled by partial differential equations, such as the Black Scholes PDE. This approach has the same level of complexity tree methods. The application of Monte Carlo method to option pricing was by Phelim Boyle in 1977. In terms of theory, Monte Carlo valuation relies on risk neutral valuation. The technique is to generate several thousand possible random price paths for the underlying asset and via simulation, and to calculate the average payoff of each path. This approach is particularly useful in the valuation of options with complicated features, which would be difficult to value through straightforward Black Scholes style or tree model. ( reference [3] Valuation of Options) Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages. The comparison of accuracy and consistence are presented and suitable method for each situation is discussed. Then the report briefly goes through some exotic options and implements the numerical solutions with binomial tree method. These options, includes American option which can be exercised any time before the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Nacle Physiology In the human body, there are two kidneys located behind the peritoneum, on either side of the spine at the lowest level of the ribcage [1]. Each kidney is made up of millions of nephrons, which drain into a series of collecting ducts in the ureter and bladder. Each nephron consists of a glomerulus, which is made up of a system of tiny blood vessels used to filter blood plasma. Each glomerulus is attached to an unbranched tubule [1]. In the tubule, chemicals and water are either added or removed according to the body s needs. The products that are not needed are removed via urine. This urine production is regulated in a variety of ways including the use of hormones and sympathetic nerve stimulation. These hormones, such as arginine vasopressin ... In conclusion, urine production is controlled and regulated by two hormones; arginine vasopressin and aldosterone. Both of these act to keep the level of urine production balanced with fluid intake, however, problems can arise with these hormones which disrupt the balance leading to dehydration, polydipsia and nocturia. There are however, options in order to treat the sufferers of all types of diabetes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. You are what you watch! Essay Imagine a distant post apocalyptic future in which a large silver box has just been excavated from the ruins of what was once Los Angeles, a box that contains stack after stack of DVD s with titles like Survivor, The Bachelor, Biggest Loser, The Swan, Real World, The Apprentice, and Hell s Kitchen. What might anthropologists conclude about our 21st century society if these shows were their only glimpse into how we lived our lives? Francine Prose ponders this same question in her essay Voting Democracy off the Island: Reality TV and the Republican Ethos, in which she asks not only what future anthropologists might deduce, but, for that matter, what contemporary TV addicted children and adults might realize if they were to more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The majority of reality television shows are based around competition, which means that, in general, you will have one winner and a group of losers. Prose suggests that the primary lesson to be learned from the eat or be eaten mentality of many of these shows is that the laws of natural selection are even more brutal, inflexible, and sensible than one might find in Darwin s theory of survival of the fittest; furthermore, Prose adds that it is perfectly acceptable, even accepted, for the contestants to marshal all their skills and resources to succeed in a struggle that only one person can win ( Voting 22). For many, this might seem perfectly acceptable. Why, after all, play a game unless you want to win? However, such a question avoids the very important fact that most of these shows also follow a curious interpretation of the values of team work in this case each player working for the common goal of winning as a team, when, in the end, there can only be one winner. As a result, individuals are often seeking inventive ways to deceive, confuse, and undermine their fellow teammates with episode after episode of these various shows featuring contestants who charm other characters into letting them stick around while always ready to crush anyone who stands in the way of their success ( Mirror 18). Rushdie suggests that this all occurs in an inverted ethical universe where worse is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
