2. Homo Sapien Human Evolution
Charles Darwin stated that the evolution of man would take not thousands of years but millions of
years. In the case of the human species (Homo sapien) evolutionary theory posits that this has been
the case. Human evolution begins with the primate lineage which also includes new and old world
monkeys, and apes (Phelan, 2015). It is important to note that researchers have determined that the
chimpanzee is the humans closest living relative. While, humans and chimpanzees have similar
genetic and anatomical structure which signifies a close evolutionrelationship, it is also important
to note the anatomical differences that distinguish Homo sapiens. Unlike chimpanzees, humans
evolved toward bipedalism, grew larger brains and eventually became bigger in size (Phelan, 2015).
As Darwin suggested humanevolution has branched down for millions of years and thus has many
significant events that result in the human beings that we are today.... Show more content on

The fossil of one of the species known as Lucy was found on November 24, 1974, at the site of
Hadar in Ethiopia (Arizona State University , n.d.). Lucy, a three million plus year old hominid

Homo habilis appeared as the first species that was bipedal and had a larger brain volume than
the chimpanzee (2015). This species also had smaller teeth. Stone tools found by archaeologists
suggest that the Homo habilis may have been the first species to use more civilized methods for
food preparation (2015). The Homo habilis quite possibly gave rise to the Homo ergaster who

4. Analyse the Argument of the Existence of God from...
i) Analyse the Argument for the Existence of God from Religious Experience (18)
The argument for the existence of God from Religious Experience is a simple one, with only two
premises. The first being that some people have, or have had a religious experience, the second
premise is that these are only explicable though God, thus leading to the conclusion that God exists.
This leads us to question, what exactly are religious experiences?
Theologians have struggled for centuries trying to define what a religious experience is, with
many believing a religious experience to be a sort of revelation, meaning that God reveals some
part of hi nature to the experient. St Thomas Aquinas believed that to be his Revealed Theology ,

Swinburne s third type is a strong feeling, a conviction that they were experiencing, even though
there is no phenomena surrounding the experience. The penultimate type is witnessing a perfectly
normal experience, such as the Grand Canyon, which creates a numinous experience. The final type
of experience is in perceiving a very unusual public object, like a miracle, for instance, the
resurrection.
To help identify a religious experience, William James put forward four characteristics of a
typical experience. The first being passivity: how in control the experient is; as whilst you
undergo a religious experience, you take on an alternative personality outside of your own,
surrendering your own control to God. The second quality is ineffability, where the experient can
t quite put the occurrence into words. Another characteristic of a religious experience is the
Noetic Quality of said experience. This quality is the knowledge that is gained in a religious
experience, knowledge that cannot be gained in a conventional manner, and tells you something
that you otherwise wouldn t know. The final quality is transciency, where the time the experience
takes doesn t dictate the significance of the experience, as time is altered or distorted in some
way, just as in a dream the dream may seem really long, whereas in reality it s only been a few

5. Endodontitis
The main goal of endodontic treatment is to prevent or heal apical periodontitis. The cleaning and
shaping procedures are adversely affected by the highly variable root canal anatomy. The presence
of additional canals needs to be detected in to avoid incomplete instrumentation and preservation of
bacteria and their toxins, which can compromise the outcome of the root canal treatment. Therefore,
the knowledge of the internal anatomy of teeth is a prerequisite for successful endodontic
therapy(1).
The morphology of the root canal systems of mandibular molars may vary according to ethnic
differences and origin, age, gender, and study design(2). The roots and morphology of mandibular
molars present clinical complications that affect the success of endodontic therapy. Therefore,
clinicians must be able to identify the root canal structure before or during a root canal treatment(3).
The mesial root of mandibular molars often shows complex anatomy(4). Few clinical studies have
investigated the incidence of middle mesial canals in mandibular molars(5). Pomeranz et al
(6)classified the middle mesial canal into three possible canal configurations: fin, confluent, or
independent. Failure to locate, cleanse, and shape these RCSs may result in persistent apical
periodontitis(7).
It was found that the frequency of an additional root in the first ... Show more content on

The ceremony was little more than a flimsy parlor show to please the elven royalty and everyone
knew it. The shift of lineage in a kingdom was generally a week long event with public forums
and open communication among citizens. A wave of enlightenment was on the horizon and this
new kingdom had no time to waste. With the crown passed and the crowd dispersing, Ayla stood
before the empty throne. The piece was a true work of art. It was carved from obsidian marble and
encrusted with countless rubies and sapphires; three major exports of their kingdom. The royals
wore the appropriate shade of silk depending on their particular mine s or quarry s outputs.
She ran her fingertips along an arm rest, the smooth marble cool against her skin. The thought of

Minimum Wage Needs A Change
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 14% of the nation lives below the poverty line, the
current population is 326,474,013, and 45,706,362 of the population lives in poverty every single
day. One of the reasons why such a large chunk of the population is in poverty is because they are
not being paid a reasonable salary for them to support themselves and their families. Raising the
minimum wage can lead to problems, but gradual increases are made over time, it could be
beneficial for millions of people around the nation. The positive effects of raising minimum wage

Beyond that many people who are working minimum wage have families to support and their
income wouldn t even be close enough for them to support a family. A large amount of people
working minimum wage are below the age of 30, but there is still a very large percentage of
people above the age of 30 making minimum wage. A quote states About 20.6 million people (or
30% of all hourly, non self employed workers 18 and older) are near minimum wage workers
(DeSilver). Many of the people above the age of thirty don t live alone and need to provide for
other people. This leaves not only the employees in poverty but their children, or whoever else
lives at home with them. It is said that Less than half (45%) of the 2.6 million hourly workers
who were at or below the federal minimum in 2015 were ages 16 to 24 (DeSilver). A change in
minimum wage could potentially help people out of poverty.
Although raises in minimum wage can be a truly great thing, it can come with many cons. A lot of
the times states make big jumps in minimum wage that do not work with the rate of inflation.
Inflation is the decreasing and increasing prices when purchasing the value of money. As minimum
wage increases it could lead to inflation. This means that prices from lower wage companies will
have to end up bumping up prices in order to pay employees. States that raise minimum gradually

would say about your statement I m in Abu Dhabi. The commonsense monist makes no
distinction between the body and the self the self is just the body, and it possesses both mental
and physical attributes. Under this interpretation, the statement I m in Abu Dhabi refers to the
self, as well as to the body: both of them are in Abu Dhabi, and they are inseparable: when the
body ceases being in Abu Dhabi, the self ceases likewise. In contrast, the Cartesian dualist
construes the sentence as My body is in Abu Dhabi . So, in this context, the word I does not
literally refer to the self; the self cannot be in Abu Dhabi, or anywhere else, because it... Show more

What is it supposed to show? Does it show it? Searle s Chinese Room is a thought experiment that
is intended to be an argument against functionalism, and especially against the Computational
Theory of Mind(according to which minds are information processing systems). Searle imagines
himself locked in a room, receiving written questions in Chinese(slipped under the door). He does
not know Chinese, but he answers the questions(in Chinese characters) with the help of a manual(or
a program) containing a set of rules. As a result, people outside believe they are interacting with a
Chinese speaker when in fact he does not understand Chinese at all. Therefore, according to the
Chinese Room argument, having an intelligent conversation does not imply that the partner has a
mind(so, a functional explanation cannot be used to distinguish between a mind and a program that
perfectly simulates it). Searle identifies two philosophical positions: strong AI and weak AI. The
former proposes that suitably programmed machines can genuinely understand language(or possess
any mental ability specific to humans), whereas the latter considers that machines can only simulate
such abilities. Searle s view is that he has proved that the strong AI position is

What is Body Mass Index?
By definition, Body Mass Index is a measurement representing the ratio of a person s body weight
to his or her height. The BMI describes the body weight relative to height, and it correlates strongly
(in adults) with the total body fat content.
A body mass index of less than 20 is considered to be underweight, while a body mass index
between 20 and 25 is considered healthy. A body mass index in the range of 25 to 30 is regarded as
overweight. A body mass index over 30 is regarded as obese. A body mass index of 100 or greater

12. Arguments Against Dna Testing
Discussion #3
DNA testing has been around for many years. DNA testing was first used to determine paternity
(Schwartz 2016). Today, DNA is not only used in paternity cases, but it is also used in criminal
justice. DNA in the criminal justice was first used in 1986 in the United Kingdom. Dr. Alec J.
Jeffreys was accused for two rape murders and later proven innocent by DNA testing (The
Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2003). Even if this method is reliable most of the time,
there are times where the DNA expert might make a mistake, might be rigged or there might be an
unknown bias. Unfortunately, because of this innocent individual are wrongfully accused of a crime

Dror believes that fingerprints are a reliable forensic evidence in today s trials. He also believes
that fingerprints are more reliable than eyewitness testimonies. However, since fingerprints are
identified by very highly skilled professional, they are still humans and mistakes can in fact
happen either honestly or intentionally. He also stated that in most cases, fingerprint evidence
has been more reliable and can be important in order to prove someone s innocence or find a
criminal. I personally, agree with Dr. Dror s opinion on fingerprint evidence being more reliable
than eyewitness testimony. Like he stated on the video, the mind is not like a camera. It does
not take a video which we can later see and quickly catch the person responsible for a crime.
Another reason of why I agree with Dr.Dror s, is because the mind is very easy to trick.
Memories can be altered just by discussing the subject with someone else, either someone involved
in the crime or by being asked leading questions by authorities. Statistics show that 70% of
wrongful convictions caused by eyewitness testimony are overturned by DNA testing. (Innocence
project, nd). As Dr. Dror said, the DNA expert might make some mistakes, DNA testing is still
better and more reliable than eyewitness

As tennis players we all strive to have the very best strokes and hit the ball as hard and as
accurately as possible EVERY single time. However, this strategy is not always the best and
most intelligent one to employ. Tennis is a very unique sport that takes a lot of physical and
mental strength, along with unyielding strategical discipline. In order to be a successful player
you must resist the temptation of trying to rip every single ball past or through your opponent on
the majority of your shots. There are less than 1% of players who can do this and still win the
majority of their matches. In other words, the selection of different shots and playing styles are all
like a different type of poison, each with an accompanying antidote. There are no shots in tennis
that do not have an antidote. After playing tennis for even a short period of time you will begin to

win more matches than a person who is very good at hitting one type of shot. I highly encourage
experimenting with newly learned shots, as there is no other way to develop shot reliability. While
doing this you must think of performance based results as opposed to outcome based results. If you

caused by how the child was raised and their own personal feelings. A person with a low self
esteem is the most common reason why narcissism begins (Thomas 1). If they feel uncomfortable

19. The Tragic Characters Of Sophocles Antigone
In literature, a tragedy is a drama where the main character in the end suffers extreme sorrow
because of their mistakes or poor judgment. If characters fates are to suffer the extreme sorrows,
then these characters are tragic characters. These tragic characters, however, must follow Aristotle s
principles which include hamartia, hubris, peripeteia, anagnorisis, nemesis, and catharsis. If the
character has all six of Aristotle s principles, then the character can qualify as an Aristotelian tragic
character. Two examples of Aristotelian tragic characters are from Sophocles
Greek play Antigone
from the trilogy dealing with Oedipusand his children (Oedipus Rex, Oedipus at Colonus, and
Antigone). The two Aristotelian tragic characters are Creon, the king of Thebes in Antigone, and
Antigone herself.
Creon s hamartia, his flaw that causes his downfall, includes his stubbornness which causes him
to not listen to the opinions of others, including Tiresias, additionally, this also connects to
hubris since he also did this because of his pride. In Antigone, Creon is an Aristotelian tragic
character. His six principles are more obvious to the reader. Tiresias tries to warn Creon as to
what will come if he doesn t change his ways now, but he ignores Tiresias even though he is a
prophet. Creon says Tiresias sold his wisdom and lets out his words for hire (Sophocles 837). This

21. The Impossibility Of Moral Responsibility
Moral responsibility is a concept that has, in some way, existed in every culture and civilization
that recorded history can tell us about. From the Law of Hammurabi to beliefs in judgmental gods
mankind has always assumed some form of moral responsibility whether metaphysical or within a
society. While pragmatic considerations of moral responsibility seem to be necessary for living
within a society, the philosophic concept of moral responsibility beckons many inherent problems
that must be resolved. Galen Strawsonin The Impossibility of Moral Responsibility presents a strong
argumentas to why moral responsibility is impossible, while Susan Wolf responds to the problems
presented, and argues that moral responsibility does exist in some... Show more content on

He shows the argument in the way it exists in a person s life, which allows for more coherent
discussion, and as he later states, new forms of objection (314). One important note to make on
Strawson s argument is his hard determinist stance. He believes that every decision and action of a
person is predetermined by their heredity and early experience. For him, no form of free will
exists. While he does believe that a person is able to examine their behaviors and tendencies, their
ability to self revise is predetermined by heredity and early experience. His determinist stance
allows his argument to be sound and extremely difficult to refute. Another important thing to draw
from the Strawson argument is what is meant by moral responsibility. For Strawson, true moral
responsibility means that one is responsible to the degree that it is sensible to either punish one
with eternal torment in hell, or reward one with enteral bliss in heaven (314). His definition of
moral responsibility is not confined to religious faith in heaven or hell, but rather is used to convey
an absolute nature of accountability. This concept of moral responsibility as Strawson presents is
pivotal in understanding his objection of moral responsibility. Strawson s argument is not against a
legislative or judicial sense of responsibility, and does not take the form of responsibility that a

Ralph Waldo Emerson says There is a time in every man s education when he arrives at the

who you really are so your soul is dead to others. They would just see that you are like everyone

Cultures are what impact and shape the structure of a civilization. They are how the traditions, and
ways of life that a civilization would adapt to. In aspect of that, the artifacts of a civilization display
the changes the changing that have occurred through time. Granted that, artifacts are ways of
preserving the cultural history of a civilization and to show respect in regards to these hidden
treasures of knowledge.
With this in mind, would preserving the artifact would include exporting any artifacts back to the
region of origin? If so, what if the government or civilization might not properly take care of the
artifacts or if the museum is not secure enough for the artifacts to be returned?
In regards of those questions, the head of the Ministry of Culture of the People s Republic of
China, Luo Shugang has requested the return of two artifacts that currently reside at the Nelson
Atkin Museum of Art in Kansas City Missouri. The two artifacts in question are a ritual disk (bi)

artifacts would be shipped and ultimately go to the Palace Museum of the Forbidden City, located

25. Situational And Contingency Theories Of Leadership Training
Leadership is a subject that has gained substantial attention in pretty much every field. There have
been a number of studies done on leadership, which has resulted in a number of different theories.
Situational and Contingency are two theories that are most commonly used in leadership training.
Both fall under the contingency theory umbrella and are also commonly used interchangeable and
often consider as one theory. Situational and Contingency theory are identical but they are two very
different methods. This paper explains the concept of Situational and Contingency leadership
theories and compares and distinguishes the two theories.
Leadership
There are over 40,000 books/writings and over 10,000 research studies on leadership (Adair,
2011). Even though there are a numerous amount of studies on the subject, there is still no real
definition of the word. In the past 60 years, as many as 65 different classification systems have
been developed to define the dimensions of leadership, (Northouse, 2013 p.4). The classifications
have broken down into 4 components: 1) Leadership is a process, 2) Leadership involves
influence, 3) leadership occurs in groups, and 4) leadership involves common goals.
Leadership is a process: means that it is not a trait or characteristic that resides in the leader, but
rather a transactional event that occurs between the leader and the followers. The process implies
that a leader affects and is affected by followers. It emphasizes that leadership

The cash budget is another aspect of budget expectation. The cash budget determines how much
cash an organization have on hand, and how much is needed to meet each expense. The cash
budget will reveal to companies the availability of any type of surplus the company has for short
term investments.
Capital expenditure budget. This budget is needed when an organization needs to invest in major
projects and equipments, such as purchases of new products, new information technology systems,
in which a management team will conduct a financial evaluation to determine whether the company
s return on investments will be met (Halliman, 2006). Lastly, we have the program budget, which
designate funds to groups that need to achieve specific goals. Program budgets do not allocate funds
to company departments, but to company s activities. Program budgets are very difficult
because there are no specifics to go on, they usually have to go by an estimate, and try to cover
all aspects of possibilities (Halliman, 2006). Since a company s budget is typically based on
knowledge from their financial history therefore, if a budget variance occurs, it can be because
inaccurate estimates were done, or one or more factors have changed unexpectedly, and the
company need to make some type of adjustments to their budget. Once a company discovered a
significant budget variance, they will need to identify the cause, and address it accordingly. For

Book Report
Jack the Ripper
Jack the Ripper was a notorious serial killer, whom some believe never even existed at all.
From August to November 1888, Jack the Ripper terrorized the East End of London by being
responsible for the death and mutilation of at least seven female prostitutes. The destitute East End
is also known as the White Chapel district of London, England. A few of the prostitutes were
targeted as they were leaving brothels in and around the White Chapel district. Jack the Ripper
seemed to be targeting drunken women who had no sense of time or what they were doing (Jack

The rest of the responsibility lies with the Ripper. He may have been a sexual serial killer of a type
all too common in the 1990 s, but he was also bent on terrifying a city and making the whole
world take notice of him by leaving his horribly mutilated victims in plain sight. Lastly, the Ripper
was never caught and it is the mysteries surrounding this killer that both add to the romance of the
story and creating an intellectual puzzle that people still want to solve ( Ebsco host).
It is unclear just how many women the Ripper killed. It is generally accepted that he killed five,
though some have written that he murdered only four while others say seven or more. The public,
press, and even many junior police officers believed that the Ripper was responsible for nine
slayings. The five that are generally accepted are:
1. Mary Ann (Polly) Nichols murdered Friday, August 31 1888.
2. Annie Chapman, murdered Saturday , September 8, 1888.
3. Elizabeth Stride, murdered Sunday, September 30, 1888.
4. Catharine Eddowes, also murdered that same date.
5. Mary Jane (Marie Jeanette) Kelly, murdered Friday, November 9, 1888. Besides these five there
are good reasons to believe that the first victim was really Martha Tabram who was murdered
Tuesday, august 7, 1888, and there are important considerations for questioning whether Stride was
a Ripper victim. As to the actual number of women that the Ripper killed, there is no simple

It is not uncommon for people to wear a mask when trying to hide something they wish not to
share, but when it starts to impacting them and other people around them negatively, it becomes a
problem. Having to hide aspects of one s life just to fit in with the rest of society is something that
is unnecessary, even if one feels that it is needed. Kenji Yoshinois the Chief Justice Earl Warren
professor of Constitutional Law at New York University. Yoshino is also the author of the book,
Covering: The Hidden Assault On Our Civil Rights. In New Civil Rights, Kenji Yoshino talks about
covering as Covering is to tone down a disfavored identity to fit into the mainstream (Yoshino

of one s life can impact them negatively because they cannot express who they really are.
Expressing oneself should be considered the normal, not hiding how they wish to express about
themselves. Covering is a bad trait in society that people have become immune to covet because
they feel like they have to so they can fit into society and be liked by everyone.

31. Augustine Of Hippo And St. Augustine s Views Of A Single God
Introduction
Many parallels have been drawn between the ancient philosophy known as stoicism and early
Christian thought. They both believe that what ultimately matters in a person is internal, and that
man should not preoccupy himself with earthly belongings. They are both highly individual, and
believe that there is one divine force that is ruling the universe.
And yet, in spite of some essential similarities, there are aspects where the two philosophies
greatly diverge. A peculiar fact is that, although they both seem to have a similar perception of
divinity, their views on the appropriate way to die could hardly be more different. Because death
is a concept indisputably related to faith and conceptions of life after death, and taking into account
the fact that both philosophies can be said to believe in a single God, examining how their beliefs
about afterlife differ may help in understanding why their views on ... Show more content on

That is why the relation of the two has been such an intriguing topic of analysis in both
philosophical and literary contexts.
In the later part of this essay, the work of Augustine of Hippo(or Saint Augustine) will be
discussed. Augustine is considered as one of the most influential Church Fathers, who developed
classical Christian philosophy with his works, in which he drew from Stoic principles, as well as
from Plato and other Hellenistic thinkers.
In De Civitate Dei (The City of God), he addressed issues such as the existence of evil, free will
and the original sin. This and several more of his writings are said to be fundamental for the
formation of Western philosophy, which further adds to the necessity of analyzing the impacts on
his work.

Kings speech in a very positive manner; the great emotion behind the words, delivering the speech
on the steps of the memorial of the President who defeated slavery. And not only was this message

The simile itself is one of the relentlessness, power and inevitability of a great stream and hence,
of the effects of justice as well. This is King s way of calling for an unstoppable justice to
prevail. Kings next allusion to the Bible; and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh
see it together, just hammers his message of equality in. Another non biblical allusion would be
sweltering summer of the Negro s legitimate discontent which is a reference to one of Shakespeare
s plays.
In addition to King s uses of allusions, the speech contains many contrasting metaphors and
similes that influence his audience very effectively. He begins by pointing out that even though
Negros are freed from slavery, they are still slaves crippled by the manacles of segregation and the
chains of discrimination. King then goes on about how America has given the negro people a bad
check whereas the check in this instance symbolizes their right to equality because the mistreatment
of the Negroes and racial discrimination is evident and the check has come back marked
insufficient funds meaning they have yet to feel what they too, are guaranteed. With that
understanding of human nature, Martin Luther King, Jr. compares gradualism to a tranquilizing
drug, implying that people have a tendency to relax when things are cooling off. But he urges for
his people not to relax and to take charge to make justice in reality for all of God s children.

36. Personification In The Pink Car
In recent generations, typical looks or ideas have dominated fashion. People write about this topic
through articles, newspapers, and papers. While models style and display the most recent styles,
they also represent what women should look like. Not until very recently, people have realized
that not all women look like models, unless they starved themselves or worse. In the poems, Fat is
Not a Fairy Tale and The Pink Car , the authors convey their main message of the poem as the
social aspect of the world and what they believe has the characteristics of the ideal person by using
imagery and personification. Admiration for individuality, a common theme throughout The Pink
Car , is constantly mentioned through the words of the Mark Halliday. Halliday personifies the cars
in the poem as people; specifically focusing in on the pink car. He repeatedly describes the other
cars in a jaundiced way; for example, he would characterize these cars as boisterous, rowdy, and
big. However, he identifies the pink car as disparate, one who does not worry or care about other
cars perspectives. The author wrote, Other cars might honk their horns to seem big // the pink
car doesn t honk and doesn t worry (Halliday 25 26). Halliday symbolizes the car as pink because
society commonly construes the color as feminist, sweet, playful, the color of love, flowers and
romantic. His intention of this poem was to help one find peace within themselves. The author
wanted the reader to see that pointing out one s flaws and blemishes cause people to become
someone who is arrogant and too self confident by referring to the other cars who did not have
the characteristics of the pink car. This poem definitely delineates what one wants to find in
themselves, the satisfaction and happiness they eventually discover. The author characterizes the
pink car with a certain type of satisfaction and pride which helps people look at themselves in a
much more positive and confident way. He wanted people to read this poem, and have people
realize that appearance does not define one s personality. He wanted people to grasp, that in a
similar way, pink should not let society define what it is.

his inner city society. As the story progresses, Archer sees Lawrence as he really is, a man of
many sorts, who isn t the man he actually is. Lawrence is in fact a hypocrite, who betrays himself
as a perfect being, but is a liar who goes against all the moral values of the group. Edith Wharton,
the author, uses this minor character, Lawrence Leffert, as a foil

41. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Second Language Acquisition
Second language acquisition is a process whereby people learn an additional language on top of
their native ones. Learning a second language can be functional to oneself especially when
communicating with a person whom you do not have a common language with. In acquiring the
second language, there will be difficulties that one might face as compared to acquiring the first
language, which makes it harder to acquire. Our mother tongue is easier to learn as we would have
been brought up by our parents or grandparents that speak the language. Learninga second language
can be difficult as we are not brought up for that language and would not know the basis of it.
Some factors that makes it hard is the age of the learner, experience, the cognitive... Show more

This refers to the way the learner understands, analyze and interpret the information he/she
accumulates. Without proper understanding, the language can be misused and might lead to social
arguments. In cognitive style, there are two different types that plays a part Field independence and
Field dependence. Field independence is whereby the learner analyzes the information and
branching out the most relevant to the irrelevant information that helps his or her study of the
language. Field dependence on the other hand is the opposite whereby the learner takes into
account all the information without highlighting the key points. It is important for earners to adopt
cognitive styles to ensure that they have understood the language thoroughly so as to not make any
mistakes while communicating. The best style to adopt would be the Field Independence. By
noting down the specific points, a learner can better understand the use of the language
appropriately. (Parker Riley, 2010, p. 95) In first language acquisition, as a child, they will go
through the different stages of acquiring their first language for example, acquisition of phonology.
Through this, he/she can learn how and why a certain word is pronounced in such a way.
Acquiring this while at a young age can help them speak the language fluently and with the right
tone. If this stage is being followed during the acquisition of the second language, the learner can
better understand how the language is truly spoken. (Parker Riley, 2010, p.

42. The Castle of Otranto Essay
In the book The Castle of Otranto the people of the castle are surrounded by unexplainable
events. These events are in most cases damaging to one s own mind. Those who are seen as great
and loving are turn in to violent and unpredictable individuals. Those who were affected include
the highest level of nobility, down as far as to the simple servant. While denial is shown by them
there is no doubt that they have changed, and only in disastrous ways. Weather the person has good
intentions or not they are changed and their intention becomes what they do. A corrupt power
which cannot be stopped. People may try to help and form the person to their former self but in

Prince Manfred even blames fate on his wife for only giving him one eligible heir. But she never
received any other answer then reflections on her own sterility, who had given him but one heir. 3
The paranoid thoughts that Prince Manfred has push him to make the wedding sooner than
planned, thinking that it would be a faster end to the prophecy as well but, this is not accepted by
his wife. He has lost complete control over his thoughts and his actions. When people react to
unexplained events, disaster follows such as with Conrad s untimely death. Conrad the son of
Manfred is killed by the fallen statue head in the courtyard of the castle. He was killed on
impact. Conrad, the son was three years younger, a homely youth, sickly, and of no promising
disposition. 4 After learning of this unexplainable event Manfred does not believe what he saw.

youth about fifteen years of age, who on the day appointed for his marriage was `dashed

43. Achieving Sustainable Development Goals At A Un Summit
The United Nations General Assembly has officially adopted the Sustainable Development Goals
at a UN summit in New York City as of September 27, 2015 that are to be globally implemented
by 2030. This essay will discuss goal 13 take urgent action to combat climate change and its
impacts , along with its five targets.
Are the Targets Truly Measurable?
The most concretely measureable target under SDG 13 is 13.a. A deadline for this target is
clearly stated along with the funds and specific parties needed to create a global impact. One will
be able to identify progress, or lack of, by 2020. Target 13.b is unspecified and extremely vague,
not indicating effective strategies for its measurability. LDC s often contribute least to climate
change yet are expected to suffer the greatest, there is no specific source in this target to aid these
countries in raising their planning capacities. Target 13.1 is vague making it difficult to assess if
a country perhaps has not achieved this target, it only focuses on extreme events when developing
resilience and adaptive capacity to gradual shifts in climate change is crucial (ICSU, 2015). The
target would need further specification and a timeframe. Target 13.2 can be measured as one can
identify if and when climate change protocols are implemented into a nations policies and whether
or not they are put into effect, however focus on only the national level is too narrow as mitigation
policies can be used on different scales such as

44. The Eu And The European Union
Introduction
Formed from 28 Member States, the EU has developed an internal single market which enabled it
to control what happens in the Member States. The context in which the EU has developed has
caused it to be unique in comparison to all the others and through this essay I will demonstrate how
the characteristics and functions of the EU are found to be those only associated with the EU.
Creating EU Law
The European Union has aims which are to promote peace, maintain its values and maintain the
wellbeing of the people. Even though there are other organisations which also aim to do this, the
EU is unique as it has to balance the national interest, common interest of the EU, democratic
representation and also geographical representation. The EU has executive bodies which enable it
to make decisions throughout the process: the Commission, Council of Ministers and the European
Parliament.
The Commission is the only institution inside the EU which has the power to draft new
legislation. It has the power to legislate in many areas across Europe, however there must be an
establishment of competence in order for the EU to rightfully legislate in a certain area. Article 2
of the TFEU outlines whether it is the EU or the Member State which has the right to legislate in a
certain area and therefore the extent of the competence that the EU has. The Commission can
either have exclusive (it is given full power to legislate), shared (where the Member State can
legislate as long as

45. Realism In Umberto D
The Italian Neo realist film Umberto D directed by Vittorio De Sica follows the life of elderly
Umberto Domenico Ferrari, a pensioner struggling to get by after pensions have been reduced
post World War II. In the aftermath of major tragedy and suffering, such as the war that Umberto
lived through, hope can be hard to find. Society is a web of dependence. Individuals rely on the
government to provide a support structure of benefits and protection. Individuals count on each
other for love and validation. When one strand of the web collapses, disaster can result. In this
case, the government let Umberto down by not providing his pension. His life tilts on the edge, but
the dependence of his dog brings it back into balance. Umberto D shows how... Show more content

46. Catcher In The Rye Narrative Analysis
In Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger creates a unique narration through the way Holden
speaks. In The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger reveals the inner Holden Caufield through the style
of Salinger s writing. Salinger writes the book as if Holden Caulfield speaks directly through the
reader, like a kid telling a story to his friends. Like with most conversations, there is more to infer
from not only the speaker says, but also how the speaker says it. In the book, readers can infer that
Holden is much more than a cynical kid. In reality, he is too affectionate and very emotional (76),
much like his little sister Phoebe. As Holden Caufield relives his story through his storytelling, he
frequently criticizes the people and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end, Holden even confesses that he misses everybody, and Salinger s old sport titles
confirms that Holden speaks the truth. Another aspect of Salinger s writing that is significant to
Holden s voice is Holden s vocabulary. Holden even states it himself: he has a lousy vocabulary
(11) and most of it consists of profanities and swear words. In part, Salinger creates a teenage
tone to Holden s voice through the mass amount of profanities in the writing. Most mature adult
characters in the book use vulgar words little to none, and all the children in the book do not
even know any swear words. Only the characters close to Holden s age and maturity levels swear
like Holden. In addition, Salinger also creates a feeling of separation between Holden and the
adults through the differences in the amount of profanities the characters speak. More than once
someone more mature tells Holden to [s]top swearing (191) and to [w]atch [his] language (80).
Despite all the complaints, Holden keeps on swearing throughout the whole novel. In a way,
Salinger creates a rebellious streak to Holden a way that he will not stop swearing even when the
adults tell him to stop. Yet, Holden can feel it himself when something is not right when it comes to
profanities. When childlike identities mix with profanities, Holden feels uncomfortable. He hates
how young and childlike Sunny is as a

47. Completion Of The Stock Track Assignment
In completion of the stock track assignment. I have learned about many facets of the stock market
and investments business. Some of those facets include: how to trade a common stock, how to
short a stock, what a call and put option is, how to trade bonds, and how do all those things in
other world markets. I personally didn t tradeas much as other students in the class did. However, I
did feel like that trades that I made were successful ones. I also learned how to properly apply the
concept of asset allocation, and what the major securities markets are and how they function.
Asset allocation is an investment portfolio technique that balances risk and creates diversification.
To do this, someone can divide their assets among major categories such as stock, real estate, cash,
and bonds. This diversification allows your portfolio to balance out because one asset may be
decreasing, but the other will be increasing at the same time to create the balance needed for
consist profits. Thus, the principle of asset allocation would be that the older a person gets, the
less that person should take on in their portfolio. When a person retires, they may have to depend
on their savings as their only source of income. Asset preservation is critical at that time in a
persons life. There are two main types of security markets, primary market and secondary market.
The primary market is a market where new issues are sold. Underwriters, who are investment
bankers, can bring new issues to

48. Social Phobia Disorder And Social Anxiety Disorder Essay
Many people get nervous during uncomfortable events that include social interaction. Nerves can
sometimes trigger anxiety during classroom interactions, job interviews, or other social events. It
is almost normal to stand in front of a crowd and feel like you re being judged constantly and
tremble. There is a major difference between nerves and an anxietydisorder. When someone
sufferers with social anxiety, they normally avoid situations that allow them to feel judged by
others. I believe that social phobia can be resolved in some individuals but, not for everyone. The
fearof embarrassment or judgment among a crowd is so overwhelming that people with this
disorder try their best to avoid the situation. For people with this disorder, extreme measures to
avoid these uncomfortable situations seem more fortunate than facing the fear itself. According to
The Nemours Foundation, we can assume that what causes social phobia is partly due to our
genetic makeup along with other aspects.
Social phobia disorder is the least known of all anxiety disorders. Social phobia disorder, also
called social anxiety disorder, is known to appear in people who fear observation in public
situations (HealthGuide.org). People with this disorder fear other s judgment of their own actions
during social occasions. People with this disorder tend to appear self conscious in uncomfortable
situations and show familiar symptoms of anxiety. According to Amanda MacMillan s article, some
symptoms of anxiety

England in 1971. The late President, Sheikh Zayid bin Sultan al Nahyan, ruled the UAE from the
start of its sovereignty all the way until his death in 2004 (Rugh, 1997, p. 18). Zayid implemented
a federal monarchy across the state. Unlike many other monarchies, the UAE has sustained great
rule while maintaing peace with its people. Many factors influence this trend and without them the
regime of the UAE would most likely fail. The UAE has flourished for nearly 40 years with a
ruling governmental regime where the majority of power is put into the hands of only a select few
by disallowing political parties and restricting political participation (Rugh,... Show more content on

The federal government oversees major state issues such as immigration, foreign policy, public
health, wealth, transportation, and communications (Heard Bey, 2005, p. 361). But the individual
emirates still have great amounts of power over the residents. The emirates each regulate the
economy specific to its land and the money is given back to the citizens (Rugh, 1997, p.17).
Although the federal government holds the most power, the emirates are still allowed to function
with a degree of independence. The familial and traditional roles held by the leaders of the UAE
establish a long lasting legitimacy throughout the state. The current President and ruler of Abu
Dubai is Khalifa bin Zayid Al Nuhayyan, son of the prior ruler. The Prime Minister, Vice
President, and Sheikh of Dubai is Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktum (CIA, 2014). Khalifa bin
Zayid was never formally elected to office, rather he was unanimously appointed to the seat on
the same day of his father s funeral. Because of the legacy and respect Sheikh Zayid created, his
son entered office with the entire UAE s support. The UAE functions tremendously through this
charismatic and traditional legitimacy; Sheikh Zayid was looked up to as a god for his 43 year
reign of power. In many states this long standing rule from one family would not be tolerated by
the public, yet it works so well in the UAE because Sheikh Zayid created and guided the state to
such high success immediately after gaining

51. Entering An Individual s Home Or Personal Space
Entering an individual s home or personal space can reveal to you differences in that individual s
personality and nature that you previously were unaware of, and can influence you to perceive him
or her in a new light. However, what you perceive about this person can be affected by a multitude
of variables, some of which may steer you into making erroneous assumptions about certain
personality traits. Fortunately, Sam Gosling has documented the important factors necessary for
interpreting people s stuff and its arrangement in their rooms, offices, and various other living and
habitable spaces, even turning this snooping into a science to determine where each individuals
may fall on the spectrum of particular personality traits concerning the Big Five: openness,
conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. Snoop: What your stuff says

conscious and wary of when examining an individual s room. After being exposed to this material
and putting it into action, my results revealed a somewhat accurate interpretation, after observing
and peeping around two rooms, her bathroom and briefly the living room, of the individual s
perception of herself revealed in her trait self assessment. To begin, my first impressions of the
areas I examined were difficult to compound into a composite, correlated and concise view. The two

53. Freud And A Midsummer Night s Dream
William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, takes the audience on a wild and confusing
ride through the human unconscious. From the play within the play, to fairies causing mayhem,
what is to be considered reality? The notion of falling asleep and dreaming is introduced over and
over in the play, and leaves the audience wondering, is any of this real? Throughout this paper, I
will attempt to explain the parallels between Shakespeare s work, A Midsummer Night s Dream,
and the work of the Austrian neurologist, Sigmund Freud, whose most popular work is that of
dreams and dream interpretations. The interpretation of dreams... is the royal road to a
knowledge of the part the unconscious plays in the mental life (Freud). Shakespeare is actually
the inventor of what we refer to as Freudian psychology, and we see this at work in A Midsummer
Night s Dream, as well as his other plays. Sigmund Freud was a neurologist who... Show more

Humanity has searched for their significance and meanings, from the Old Testament dreams of
Pharaoh and of Jacob s dream of the ladder, to the ancient Egyptians and Greeks as being messages
from the gods. These vivid images that arise in the unconscious mind contain elements of our
personal identity, segments of our daily lives, as well as the bizarre. About three hundred years
prior to Freud s work on the subconscious, we see that Shakespeare, as evidenced in A
Midsummer Night s Dream, seemingly had a good grasp on the importance dreams played in our
lives. The entire play seems like one long dream, and this causes the audience to question the
reality of the play. The sense of time also lends to this notion, as it seems to be missing from the
play. At times, just like dreams in real life, the audience is dropped into the middle of the action
without any direction as to what is happening, or the events that led to where they

The last type of love is manipulative love. Such a type of love is not determined by fate, but
instead man made through cunning actions and quick wit. It thrives upon the great desire of one
individual for another. In most cases, manipulative love is presented when one is already in a
relationship with another. The relationship of Louka and Sergius was founded upon the
manipulation if Louka and gives great insight into this type of love. The first example of
manipulative love is presented when Louka and Sergius are alone together. She begins to tear at
the foundation of the relationship of Raina and Sergius. Louka mocks Sergius telling him that he
only married for wealth and not love. She proclaims that she is better than him because she would
marry for true love regardless of her status. She gives an example, presenting a situation and
