Painting, Violet Persian Set With Red Lip Wraps By Dale...
The exhibition that focuses on contemporary artworks since 1960 will be small, containing only two
pieces. The pieces are both sculptures, Violet Persian Set with Red Lip Wraps by Dale Chihuly and
Nefertiti by Wendall Castle. The theme of the exhibition will be about the reimagining of the exotic
female form through abstract sculpture specifically, in the round, free standing sculptures. Both
Chihuly s piece as well as Castle s fit this theme as they depict abstract forms that can be interpreted
as feminine. However, the pieces look radically different from one another and are fairly abstract. One
sculpture shows a strong and regal womanly form while the other could be interpreted as the exact
opposite. Both sculpture s in the exhibition can also be seen as being inspired by the exotic and
romanticized past. At a glance, Violet Persian set with red lip wraps is a very abstract form with many
different parts and pieces. There are cone shapes wrapped in thin waved sheets of blown glass. It
appears as though Chihuly uses cane working in his piece as there are stripes of color throughout each
layer. It measures approximately 2.5 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet and is made of twenty different sections of
sculpted glass that must be disassembled and reassembled every time it is moved. The outer wraps,
like shells, gently wrap the glass shapes in their folds. The interior sculptures take on the shapes of
cones, trumpets and petals and are nestled closely together. The sculpture can be

Swimming At High School Swimming
Swimming is a skill most learn as means for pure survival. However, some people take the skill to the
next level, and participate in the sport of competitive swimming. Ranging from local neighborhood
summer swim leagues to the world broadcasted Olympics, competitive swimming has participants of
all levels. Among these levels is the high school team level, which is commonly found among the
many sports on most high schools lists. At any level of competitive swimming, the swimmers
showcase their talents at highly anticipated swim meets. To the spectators swim meets are an exciting
venue to view the individual athlete s incredible talents. However, behind the scenes there is so much
more to be discovered. Although my visit confirmed my thoughts on how exciting the swim meet
atmosphere is, I was surprised to learn about the team aspect of a sport that is usually thought of as an
individual sport.
Like most high school swim meets, the district twelve swim meet started bright and early on a wintry
morning. It was around 6:30am, when the Samuel Clemens high school swim team boarded the bright
yellow school bus to venture out to the natatorium. This particular meet was being held at the Josh
Davis natatorium, which is a Northeast Side ISD facility. After a brief forty minute bus ride, the eager
team arrived to the gigantic two story brown building, that read Josh Davis Natatorium directly above
the front door. The parking lot was gradually filling up with more school

Ernest Hemingway was an American writer. He was born in 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois. He committed
suicide in 1961 in Ketchum, Idaho (Burges 17). Even today Hemingway is one of the most recognized
authors in the world. Hemingway s experiences during World War I are directly shown in many of his
works. His general outlook on life is reflected in the adventures of his characters. It is clear that
Hemingway had a desire to be part of the war even though, due to bad vision he was unable to enlist
in the army and fight in the war. Instead he lied about his age and went to Italy to become an
ambulance driver. While in Italy he experienced many things that he would later go on to write about
in works such as A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While at post one night Hemingway was first wounded by an Austrian mortar shell, then the same
night he was further wounded by machine gun fire while he was carrying an Italian soldier to safety.
Though badly wounded his injuries were not fatal; all his injures where contained to his legs
(www.timelesshemingway.com). Hemingway spent five days in a field hospital before an excruciating
train trip to Milan. In Milan things took an upward turn when surgery was successful. Hemingway
was regarded as a hero and reported in newspapers and newsreels at home as the first American
wounded in Italy (TimelessHemingway 2). It is debatable whether this was true but no matter,
Hemingway was enjoying himself.
World War One was the setting of many of Hemingway s stories. He used his personal experiences as
their basis but enhanced them greatly. In 1929 Hemingway published A Farewell to Arms; the novel
that many critics consider to be the best ever written about World War One (Burgess 56). It is based on
Hemingway s personal experiences during the war. The main character, Lt. Frederic Henry, is
wounded, just as Hemingway was. He is hospitalized and falls in love with a nurse. Hemingway also
fell in love with his wartime nurse. But Hemingway took the characters further than his wartime
experience. He created action from later experiences. He was very good at putting things together. He
made up whatever he needed to suit his purposes (Hemingway 87). If the actual events worked, he

Lab Report 8 A. Coughran 5/10/17
Objective:
The objective in Lab 8 is to measure wavelength of five emission lines of light and a laser beam
through the principle of light interference.
Theory:
Light passed through a transmission grating is often sent in all directions due to interference. The
grating acts as a new wave source and causes the light to travel in different paths. Equation 1 below
shows the relationship between path difference and light direction due to constructive interference. D
represents the line spacing and sinƟ=a/c according to the drawing below. mλ=dsinƟ Equation 1
Equation 2 below can be used when small angle values are present (such as when m=1) and is a ...

The base of the light triangle, b, was measured first. Then, the light positions, a, were measured f=or
the first order (m=1) and second order (m=2) light beams to determine the angle Ɵ for each. This data
was organized in an Excel table and used to find the wavelength, λ, of the laser through Equation 1.
This value was then compared to the theoretical value for wavelength of the laser, which was 6.328x
〖10〗^( 7)m, and the percent error was calculated between the two.
Procedure B Wavelength Measurement of Light Color
The diffraction grating was used to measure the angle values of different light colors using a
collimator. The wavelength of each light beam according to the corresponding color was then
calculated using the specific angle value. In this procedure, a telescope was used to form an image
from the diffracted light from the transmission grating. A mercury light source was also used as a light
ray source of

1. A person who identifies with the punk rock culture will be greatly affected as an individual.
a. People who see themselves as part of the punk rock culture may feel a sense of belonging, where as
they may not be accepted otherwise. b. Lyrics Vault says that, Followers of punk have a social and
political set of beliefs, morals and standards indicating an absolute rejection of conformity . This leads
to the belief in anarchy, or the absence of any form of political authority.
2. Social rebellion is synonymous with punk rock. There are many reports of social uprisings in which
punk rockers have been a part of. a. As mentioned earlier, one of the most memorable of these
rebellions was the Bad Religion riot, or more commonly and simply known as The Riot . On
December 29, 1990, a Fire Marshall cancelled a Bad Religion concert when it appeared the over
capacity crowd presented a safety hazard. When the cancellation was announced, the 1,000 agitated
fans at the El Portal Theater erupted into violence, causing multiple injuries and over $25,000 in
damage. News footage captured all the madness as beer bottles flew, firemen hosed the masses, and
police escorted the more than out of control fans.

Sensitive Period to Order
INTRODUCTION
In this assignment I am going to discuss the child s sensitive period for order. I will explain how it is
catered for in the classroom, referring to materials and activities.
Sensitive Periods
The Sensitive Periods are the best times for a child to learn a specific skill and are critical to the child
s self development. The child has this inner urge to undertake the task in order to live. Although, once
this period passes it is possible for the child to learn the new skill but with much more difficulty. A
sensitive period that is prevented from occurring will manifest itself into a cranky child.
The three main sensitive periods for children aged birth to six are, order, movement and language.

But freedom within limits, not the right to do whatever you want, whenever you want. Freedom needs
to work within the grounds of discipline. Discipline is making correct choices while respecting the
classroom, and the rights of the other children.
In my experience, Marie is consistent at all times while teaching but kind and caring at the same time.
She set clear expectations very early on in the school year and this is evident through the respect the
children show her and the order that upholds in the classroom.
The expectations included; * Children are given the freedom to move, to communicate, to choose
activity and to work with others. * Children must not disrespect the materials. The materials must only
be used for the purpose intended. * Children can only choose what he/she has been presented. * If the
child cannot use a specific piece of material, it is removed and re presented or, a period of time is
given to allow the child s development.
REFER TO MATERIALS AND ACTIVITIES IN THE CLASSROOM
Referring to materials and activities in the Montessori classroom, it is fair to say that the Practical Life
and Sensorial shelves all stimulate the child s sense of order. The Practical Life shelf consists of the
dressing frames, which allows the child to understand the importance of sequence in tasks. The
pouring exercises which teaches the child hand eye coordination and their entire body concentrates to

Naps Should Be Allowed In Kindergarten
Naptime or rest time should be a requirement in kindergarten. A simply twenty or thirty minute nap
can reprogram a child s memory, behavior, and assist a child who lacks a sufficient night s rest.
Furthermore, the section will elaborate on the needs of daytime and night sleep in children who
attends kindergarten. Evidence which will support the position of naps in kindergarten will be
provided. Supporting Evidence The research in this paper indicates that if a child s sleep needs are
met, then the child will likely increase positive behaviors, improve academic skills, and possess better

The Theory Of Social Contract
Contractualism, in general, is whether or not an action is deemed right or wrong can be understood in
terms of contracts, and is furthered with the theory of social contract. Additionally, contractualism can
be distinguished from Hobbesian contractualism (also known as contractarianism) and Kantian
contractualism, whereby the former looks to contracts made by individuals of a society for the sake of
personal gain and benefit, while the latter sees to contracts made by individuals of any given society
that consider each other and themselves to be free and equal members of State. The theory of the
social contract has existed for the longest time, it speaks of an agreement (or agreements) made by the
members of any society and community to give up certain individual freedoms for the betterment of
that society itself, i.e state protection and security.
Firstly in history, power was to reside in the country s monarch, as it was divinely ordained. Over
time, however, there was a need for more justification for where power over the state laid other than
just simply being divinely granted or ordained . Thus, during the Siècle des Lumières, England a
country that has for the longest time had a monarch in power (admittedly of which the very same
monarch still exists today) entered great political, administrative and constitutional change where
England was entering a transformation becoming a modern State. It was during the Siècle des
Lumières that the idea of social

My Patient Is A 68 Year Old Indian Male Essay
My patient is a 68 year old Indian male. His health issues include hypertension, Type 2 diabetes,
hyperlipidemia, cellulitis, and insomnia. He has been in the facility for 3 years. My patient s weight is
156 lbs. and there were no major weight changes for the time he has been in the facility. My patient
needs assistance with either wheelchair or a walker, is able to ambulate with or without a device. He is
not allergic to anything, therefore, no modification to the medication is needed. The primary the
patient is in the facility is because of a foot ulcer. The foot ulcer is unable to heal at a normal pace
because he has diabetes. My patient did not take any medication prior to admission to the facility. One
of the diagnosis included hypertension also known as high blood pressure. If not treated over time
hypertension can cause heart disease and stroke. In order, to lower blood pressure a person can
consume a healthy diet with less salt, exercise daily and take their medication. Usually, if a person s
blood pressure is above 140/90 mmHg they are considered to have high blood pressure. My patient
takes Lisinopril, it decreases blood pressure in hypertension, decrease preload, and afterload in
cognitive heart failure. The only use for this is when a person has mild to moderate hypertension.

Thomas Paine The Crisis No. 1
The Revolutionary Era was a turbulent time in American History. The voices of revolution rang from
all over the colonies. King George III was seen as a tyrant, Britain s taxes were oppressing, and the
colonist s sought political freedom at last. However, this movement towards freedom did not spur
overnight. Leaders such as Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine used their skills as an author and
orator to persuade others to join the revolution. Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1 boosted soldier s
morale and urged them to continue bravely in their fight against Britain. Thomas Jefferson s
Declaration of Independence formally removed Great Britain from their rule over the colonies.
Jefferson used powerful and moving statements to list the reasons for the colonies separation.
Although Paine and Jefferson s writing aided in the persuasion of political leaders; many colonists
were not able to read these powerful political works. Had the writing of Paine and Jefferson been
easily accessible for colonists, Paine s The Crisis No. 1. would have caused a greater effect on the
colonists perspectives than Jefferson s Declaration of Independence.
During the American Revolution, morale was low and many colonists wanted to give up their fight
against the British and return home. General George Washington wanted to encourage his troops to
remain strong in their fight. In order to do this, General Washington had Thomas Paine s The Crisis
No. 1. read to his soldiers. Thomas Paine wrote The Crisis

My Life Of My Family
I come from a place where people are determined. Determined to surpass the difficult times,
determined to make their families proud, determined just to live. Where I m from people could hardly
manage to balance buying food and paying for rent. People walked to school, to the grocery store, and
to work because not everyone could afford to have and maintain a car. Kids grew up with one parent
or none at all. I had both of my parents, a roof over my head, and food on the table. So I was one of
the lucky ones. Except things aren t always as simple as they seem. The people around me weren t the
only ones who faced difficult situations. Growing up the way I did broke me down and built me back
up repeatedly, but because my problems never seemed to compare to others and everyone was
struggling with something in their own way, I learned to keep them to myself.
My family moved to Fitchburg right before I was going to kindergarten. When we first moved here,
we lived in a dangerous neighborhood so my parents wouldn t allow me to associate with the kids on
my street. This resulted in me spending a lot of time alone because I was an only child. My mom had a
job a few towns away and my dad found work in the next town over. They worked opposite shifts so
seeing the two of them together was not a common occurrence. For these reasons, it was incredibly
exciting for me as a child when the three of us would venture out to visit a family friend. It was my
mom s closest friend, Rob, who lived

The Case Of A Prayer For Owen Meany By John Irving
The American Dream throughout the Century
White picket fences, rows of houses that are carbon copies of each other, and the perfect family who
owned all of this. For years, it was said that this was the true ideal to be met. The long sought after
American Dream has been apart of this nation for decades and continues to change as the times do. In
the case of A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, the author incorporates both the American
Dream from the 1950s and 1960s, but also today s take on the subject.
To thoroughly understand the differences between the American Dream of the 20th century and today,
one must first look at the historical events that took place while keeping in mind what is happening
currently. In Irving s book, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In various other news articles, it is reported that diplomats from not only South Korea, but China are
brokering agreements with the United States in hopes of avoiding the war. For years, war with North
Korea has been suggested, forgotten, and reevaluated. In 2017, it seems there is growing tension and
Americans are not prepared for what could happen if the war was to begin. There is no patriotism in
this case, no one is ready to go to war with North Korea. This would not be a war that the men and
women of the country would fight; it would be with nuclear weapons and the push of a few buttons. In
Irving s book, there is something to be fought for the protection of a country from the evil grasp of
Communism. In the case of North Korea, there is only an angry leader who has harboured hatred
towards the United States for years. In summary, the American dream currently is not to go to war for
the sake of fighting, the people need something to fight for in order to justify their personal American
Dream.
More important than the historical events are the people involved in creating their dreams. In A

States service exports) and $149.7 billion (35.4% of total United States service imports). Mexico
heavily relies on the European Union market as well; after the United States the EU is the second most
important trading partner to Mexico. EU and Mexico do have an established free trade agreement that
came into effect as of 2000. Although Mexico still imposes tariffs and quotas on certain products such
as meat and dairy, the EU and Mexico partnership is still one of the most comprehensive in the world
s economy. In 2014, the EU exported €27.4 billion worth of goods to Mexico and €18 billion in
imports. FDI from Mexico to EU amounted for €22.6 billion(inflow) in 2013 while the FDI outflow
was around €102.3 billion.
The primary objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of two policies that are related to Trans
Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Firstly, we will explore the effects of bilateral FTA between
Canada and the EU on different Canadian sectors (policy 1). Secondly, to investigate the economic
effect if there is a free trade agreement between EU and NAFTA (Policy 2). There are various
techniques that could be utilized to carry out this analysis. In this paper we use Computable General

Penicillin Essay
Penicillin was accidentally discovered at St. Mary s Hospital, London in 1929 by Dr. Alexander
Fleming. As test continued, Fleming began to realize that he was on the verge of a great discovery.
However, he still did not know the identity of the fungus, and had little knowledge of fungi. His crude
extracts could be diluted 1,000 times and still be effective in killing bacteria. After years of working
on penicillin and going nowhere, many of his co workers grew tired of hearing about it. The first real
test for penicillin came when a 48 year old police officer nicked himself shaving. After a time,
Alexander s face became infected and he developed a temperature. When he was rushed to the

Penicillin brought about the biggest search in medical history. It was reasoned that if there was one
antibiotic in nature, there must be many more, and there were.
If anything should be taken off of the Basic s List, it should be Social Darwinism. Social Darwinism is
simply survival of the fittest. This a simple view, and is not practiced much very often. Penicillin on
the other hand, has saved thousands, if not millions of lives, and started its own medical revolution to
seek for new cures to other things as well.
World War II turning points are much more important than penicillin. If there were not any breaks for
the American troops, then there would have been many more lives lost in the war than needed.
Possibly, there would be more lives lost in the fighting than saved by penicillin in its fist two decades
of public use.
Penicillin has helped save many lives throughout the years. It has cured things like strep throat, which
many people have had in their lives, syphilis, and gonorrhea. It also sparked a new wave of

Analysis Of The Book Fences
Fences: Troy Maxson An apocalypse is defined as a deeper understanding of the world that results in a
type of closure. Furthermore, a personal apocalypse would be described as an understanding of an
event or situation that results in a closure, such as the end of a struggle or situation, or even death
within time. Time is defined as the indefinite, uncontrolled, continued progress of existence and events
over time past, present, and future. Throughout Fences, Troy Maxson endures many trials and
tribulations, but the closure that comes from these events within his life results in his own personal
apocalypse over time. In Act I, Scene I of Fences, the audience is introduced to Troy Maxson as he
sitting on his raggedy porch talking to a friend. One can see that Troy has a control problem through
some of the statements he makes and the actions that follow them. At one moment, his friend accuses
him of eyeing another lady, and Troy reacts by saying, Hell, yeah, I bought her a drink! What that
mean? I bought you one, too. What that mean cause I buy her a drink? I m just being polite (Wilson
966). I have always been told that the convicted are the ones that get mad. Here, Troy gets aggravated
because he is being said to have something for another woman when he is married. To further this, his
friend then states that he has seen Troy walking around the woman s house several times. Troy then
goes berserk, saying, What you watching me for? I ain t watching after you (Wilson

Descriptive Essay On Venice
Summer is ending and the leaves are kicking in, the weather is at the peak of perfection and you can
still enjoy a nice scoop of gelato ice cream without freezing from Suso; because who doesn t love
frozen treats? The only issue is where in the world is Suso located?! Let s just say you can probably
drop a good $500 on a one way trip to Venice, not just to enjoy a nice scoop of gelato but to bask in
the ambiance that is an eons worth of history, art, and culture. When you think of Italy, probably the
first thing that pops into your mind is the beautiful watercolored water reflecting the architecture all
while the setting sun taints the skies with crimson and violets. The ripples harmonizing the colors

romance, and not just simple everyday romance, but the kind that makes you believe in fairy tales and
stardust. The kind of romance that is timeless and forever engrained in your heart, so if marriage is
part of the trip make sure to be wise. Apart from being a firm believer of romance, if you re an art
connosieur then feast your eyes because they will glimmer like a child who just discovered bacon for
the first time in their life. First off the architecture here is sophisticated, so if you re passionate about

The Influence Of Art On American Society
The statement of when artists feel issues in strong and personal way, or that they have something to
say about the human condition, they can produce powerful, disturbing and intuitive artworks is true
because in many situations, art has influence people to make drastic changes. Artists, in some cases
have a stronger influence on people rather that someone making a speech as art involves techniques
such as colour, the type of medium and the location in which it was painted. The article, Influence of

The Rebellion Of The Vesey Uprising Of Charleston, South...
Just ten years later another significant uprising occurred named the Vesey Uprising in Charleston,
South Carolina. A slave named Devany Prioleau told his master that he heard a rumor of an uprising
from another slave who was named William Paul. Slaves were taken into questioning but had denied
the uprisings. One slave said it was to happen on the sixteenth but it never happened. Still ten slaves
were arrested including Prioleau and Paul. A secret testimony was taken to account saying that the
slaves arrested and one free slave named Denmark Vesey were all in on an uprising. Vesey and five
other slaves were hung for their crime all while protesting their innocence. ...they, in there agony of
strangulation, begged earnestly to be dispatched; which was done with pistol shot by the Captain of
the City Guard, who was always prepared for such an emergency; i.e. shooting slaves . A colored
American who was a witness to these events shared their opinion on the matter. From the pamphlet,
this person was outraged by the indiscrimination that went on in the Vesey Uprising with the murders
of 35 slaves. The only uprising with the greatest number of whites killed was the Nat Turner s
Rebellion. Nat Turner was a religious and educated man who was convinced by Christ that his mission
was to lead a rebellion. Turner decided to gather others for the rebellion and then killed his owner and
family. He and his men marched from plantation to plantation gathering other slaves and slaughtering

Analysis Of One Tree Hill
There s only one Tree Hill, Jamie Scott. , said Haley James Scott. One Tree Hill is the best television
series because of its well developed lovable characters, its love triangles, and overall duration of years
it was filmed. One Tree Hill first premiered on September 23, 2003 and was created by Mark
Schwahn. This television series had a total of nine seasons making it last nine years. The television
series, follows the lives of five teenagers from their local high school through their adult lives, and the
conflicts that arise surrounding the group pertaining to intimate and non intimate relations with each
other and outsiders. In 2009, the series won Top Television series at the ASCAP Film and Television
Music Awards.

As the main characters begin the show in high school and continue through college and their early
twenties the viewer sees each character s different personality traits, relationship struggles, and
emotional breakdowns. Because One Tree Hill had a total of nine seasons, lasting nine years, the
viewer has an extended amount of time to get attached to the plot and characters. As a nine season
show the characters physical traits are allowed to change because of the accurate duration of time
unlike the also popular show Pretty Little Liars. In Pretty Little Liars throughout the seven years its
been on the air, six of the seasons the main characters were in their junior and senior years of high
school. This can be a bit repetitive for the viewer because it feels like they are watching the same thing
happen over and over again. The many seasons of One Tree Hill could be a con to someone because
the show can get repetitive at times, however, In my opinion the producer, Michael Tollin, does a great
job of coming up with new ideas and storylines to keep the series

Vassal Lords Economic Control
This lack of economic control was beneficial to the Vassal lords of France, as it allowed them to retain
more of their own wealth and resources. Their resources were provided due to the fact that they had
legal authority over the people, serfs, living on their land and could make them work for no pay, due
to serfdom (8). This absence of taxation helped the Vassal lords to become economically independent
of the crown and fund their own campaigns, as made evident by William of Normandy s invasion of
England in 1066.The quote, Moreover the abundance of resources, or the lack of them, exalts or

(10) Henry the 1st managed to secure economic control over his kingdom due to the fact that his
taxation system removed his economic dependency upon his higher ranking subjects. This was
accomplished through the creation of Sheriffs, officials who managed territories in the Kings name.
However, unlike the situation in France the land still belonged to the King and he retained the ability
to call upon its resources. The aristocracy were accepting of this system due to the financial benefits
brought by the tax system. Each individual Sherriff was tasked with collecting a required amount of
taxes per year, which was demanded by the treasury at the Exchequer court. Whilst this increased the
King s wealth, it was beneficial to the Sheriffs, who were permitted to collect additional taxes in order
to enrich themselves. Whilst increasing the King s own finances, it also provided a dependency of the
Sheriffs upon the King, in contrast to the situation in France. This dependency originated from the fact
that the position of Sheriff was not hereditary, and could only be attained through continuous loyalty
to the King. Finally, the King could exercise his authority by calling in the debts of any who didn t
remain in his favour, whilst at the same time ignoring the debts of those who did. Overall, Henry the
1st took economic control of his country by creating a system upon which his aristocracy s wealth and
resources were dependent upon him. In this system loyalty to the King was highly beneficial, whilst at
the same time the King s own wealth and resources grew and prevented problems occurring similar to
the dependency faced by the Kings of

Inventing A Christian America Summary
In reading Inventing a Christian America , it really opens up to a whole new way of looking at the
early 18th and 19th century America. Green makes many key points about religion in America during
that time and the Founding Fathers. He simply wants us to understand the myth of this country.
Throughout the book it becomes one question of; did the Founding Fathers establish the United States
as a Christian Nation? It was truly meant to be a Christian America but the way of Enlightenment was
slowly approaching. Steven Green argues that the origin myth of a Christian founding did not begin
with the founding generation, but decades later and that today s Christian nationalists promote an
erroneous reading of our past that distorts even that 19th century version of our beginnings. The

The book goes into the original English settlers who were mostly Protestant and some came to escape
limitations placed on their own freedom of religious. Rather than prolong that prospect to others they
enthusiastically prohibited from practicing freely all Catholics, Jews, Quakers, and many Protestants
who dissented from the main Church of England in the south and puritans in New England. Although
many did not come to America for religious reasons at all, but for economic opportunities. The
founders such as Jefferson saw the dangers of this legacy of religious intolerance and therefore formed
a nation that rejected a Christian establishment. They moved beyond mere tolerance of multiple
religions in favor of religious liberty and asserted freedom of conscience to be a natural right. To build
such a society, they invented early colonial societies dedicated to religious liberty. The fathers looked
to secular political compact theory for their inspiration, the same theory in fact that inspired the
puritans to develop their religiously infused covenant. Those looking for a purely American origin
myth invented a path from the mayflower compact to the U.S.

Lowering Tuition at Iowa State University Essays
Lowering Tuition at Iowa State University
The Background of the Costs of Tuition at Iowa State University
Iowa State University is a land grant school which, among other things, means that the university gets
money from the state of Iowa from the taxes that residents pay to the state. Because of this in state
residents who choose to go to the university do not have to pay a large amount of money while out of
state residents have to pay almost twice as much. Iowa State University does not have reciprocity,
meaning that even residents from the surrounding states, Minnesota, Illinois, etc., have to pay full out
of state tuition. Out of state residents have to pay about $9000 a year for tuition, while Iowa residents
pay only about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The students that come to Iowa State are not all Iowa residents. The out of state residents are the ones
who have to pay a great deal of money to attend the university. These students should not feel that
many of the doors to the kind of education they would like have been shut in their face because of the
amount of money it costs to attend many universities. To help solve many problems for out of state
students, their tuition for attending Iowa State University should be set around $5000. By setting it at
an amount that is only about $3000 less than the present out of state tuition it will make it much more
affordable for the students and the University will not lose money. Needs for Changing the Tuition at
ISU
The needs for the decrease in out of state tuition at the university can be seen in several areas, such as
the community diversity, availability of education to all, and the income based discrimination of
students. Iowa State university does not have a very diverse community. During the 1998 1999 school
year 78.8 percent of the total population at Iowa State University was of Iowa residency. Many of the
Iowa residents are from the surrounding area of Ames, IA, where Iowa State is located. Only 17.6
percent were non residents but United States citizens and the remaining 9.6 percent were international
students (ISU Fact book). The percentages were even lower in the incoming freshman class of that

Cats Purring Research Paper
Why do cats purr? This is a common question that most cat owners speculate on. Purring is a very
relaxing sound, usually associated with relaxation and content. Cats also demonstrate other strange
behaviors, such as kneading. How cats purr and knead can be very easily answered. However, what s
even more interesting is what these behaviors are rooted in. To find this out, scientists and researchers
must look at behaviors that are learned in kittenhood. For those that don t know, purring is a vibration
sound that cats make, usually when they are contented and happy. However, something that a lot of
people don t know is that cats also purr when they are sick or injured (International Cat Care). The
theory on this is that the vibration and frequency of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Purring, while mostly displayed when content, was also displayed in kitten hood to their mother to
show that they were ok (Why and how do cats purr?). Kneading first happens when kittens knead on
their mother to simulate the flow of milk (Why do cats...?). It can also be used to mark objects/humans
with their scent, as scent glands are present on the bottom of their paws (Why do cats knead?). Some
kittens continue kneading into adulthood, and some don t (Why do cats knead?). It isn t a bad thing,
just a learned behavior, as are all the others. There is so much more we can learn about cats and their
behaviors. What we do know is that a lot of seemingly weird things they do comes from learned
behaviors from kitten hood. Purring is a sign of content, but also a comforting mechanism when ill or
injured. Kneading was used to start the flow of milk in their mothers, but when they re older they don
t have their mother s milk to drink, so they might continue on a blanket, pillow or a human leg. All cat
owners are familiar with this behavior, and every cat is

Assess sociological explanations of science and ideology...
Assess sociological explanations of science and ideology as belief systems (33 marks)
A belief system is a set of ideas that a person uses to make sense of the world around us. Science can
be defined as a way of looking at the natural world, which is systematic, objective and capable of
generating universal laws. Ideology is a systematic set of beliefs, which serve the interests of a social
group in society. It is often associated with the power and the ability of those at the top of the society
to put forward their own ideas as right. These ideas could be distorted, partially true and put forward
for a purpose.

diseases and the growing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, ideologies are used to describe secular ideas, belief systems are used when speaking about
religious ideas and ideologies usually have negative connotations whereas belief systems have
positive.
It can be argued that ideology is a belief system as Marxist would argue religion is an ideology.
Marxists argue that society is divided into two opposed classes, the minority capitalist who own the
means of production and the majority property less working class who have to sell their labour. This
shows that ideology is a belief system as the ruling class stop the poor from becoming successful,
therefore the poor start to believe that they cannot become successful.
Feminists see gender inequality as the fundamental division and patriarchal ideology as playing a key
role in legitimising it as gender differences are a feature in all societies. Many ideologies exist to
justify these gender inequalities. An example of this is the belief that women should either be virgins
or whores; this is shown through Mary Magdalene. This is also reinforces the idea that women are
sexual objects. This also shows that ideology can be a belief system in terms of beliefs and ideas about
women and how people believe that women are inferior to men.
Mannheim sees all belief systems as being partial

FDA considers a number of things. The structure and properties of the product is a consideration, the

Big Business and The Robber Barons Essay
The decades after the Civil War rapidly changed the face of the United States. The rapid
industrialization of the nation changed us from generally agrarian to the top industrial power in the
world. Business tycoons thrived during this time, forging great business empires with the use of trusts
and pools. Farmers moved to the cities and into the factories, living off wages and changing the face
of the workforce. This rapid industrialization created wide gaps in society, and the government, which
had originally taken a hands off approach to business, was forced to step in. Many individuals took
advantage of the rapid industrialization and high influx of cheap labor in the form of immigrants.
Among these entrepreneurs were John D. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

before turning to the promising railroad industry. He began to take capital from the steamship business
to buy railroads, starting with the New York and Harlem Railroad in 1862. Vanderbilt eventually

The Importance Of Memory
Can you remember memory
Memory has always been a huge part of everyday life whether a conscious mind realizes it or not.
Memory is the set of processes used to encode, store, and retrieve information over different periods
of time. (openstax) Memory helps develop a human s mind and who they will become through life.
Psychology is the study of the human mind and how humans think. Memory is important to
psychology because memory shapes a human s character and continues to push someone through each
and every day. Many ancient beliefs about memory were surprisingly accurate. Plato saw how one
memory can lead to another when he described a lyre that made him think of it owner and then his
friend, until a whole, rich picture of events and associations was called up from a simple, instrument.
(minninger) There are three major processes someone memory presents every day. These three
processes which information passes through are encoding, storage, and retrieval. The first process
information encounters is encoding. Encoding is the input of information into the memory system.
Encoding can occur through a conscious mind or an unconscious mind. When the mind is unconscious
the form of encoding it goes through is called automatic processing, this is taking in little clues from
the surrounding environment such as time. When the mind is conscious and aware of what it is in
taking this is called effortful processing. Effortful processing actual requires a lot of work such as

Sister Carrie As A Moral Problem
Brill1
The 1890s in America was a time of change for many Americans. Cities were starting to change
rapidly due to industrial expansion and population growth.1 Many people felt the need to reinvent
themselves to achieve a higher social status.2 This time period created a new generation of Americans
who needed the instant gratification of material things without working for them.3 Through these
actions, some Americans even began to discard traditional American mores and values that were once
held so highly. Theodore Dreiser?s novel Sister Carrie is an example of the drastic changes happening
in this time period. ?Sister Carrie from the beginning was discussed as a moral problem.?4 Dreiser?s
first novel was almost ?consigned to limbo.?5 Society could not accept a novel that disobeyed the
social values, mores, and rules of the 1890s.6 Also, society did not believe that the plot was realistic to
the time period.7 This novel shows ??The division between the haves and the have nots of the country
has come to seem particularly stark, and when traditional American mores governing the meanings
and the purposes of wealth have largely eroded.?8 As the reader sees the development of American
society in Theodore Dreiser?s Sister Carrie, there is a constant rejection of American mores and values
by Carrie and those around her. In the novel Sister Carrie, material things and money are held
extremely high. From the beginning of the novel we see Carrie begin to hold them up

The Nature And Activity Of God Essay
Reading for Week # 4
Question 1: What did I learn about the nature and activity of God? I don t generally believe that God
speaks directly to me, but this summer some things have happened to me that cannot be explained
except to say some type of divine intervention took place. One of these things that happened was God
changed my long held view that I had. I myself was once a young earth creationist even though my
father (a retired Southern Baptist minister), did not believe in a strict interpretation of the 6 days of
creation. My thoughts have changed on this topic after Dr. Fiensy s OT research class this summer.
While doing research for my OT, paper I found an enormous amount of research done on the gap
theory of Genesis 1:1 3. The Hebrew wording in Genesis 1:2 leaves the possibility of an immeasurable
amount of time transacting between verse 1 and 3 (page 144 DTIB). I believe that the Holy Spirit has
led me to this revelation in my own personal walk with the Lord. I believe for me this is one of those
moments where I have experienced growth that has moved me closer in my relationship with God. I
agree that the Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 accounts of creation definitely counteract the pagan Myths of
creation (page 144 DTIB). The epic of Gilgamesh seems to share some similar words and concepts,
but Genesis 1 reminds us that all these things created were created by one God. I believe God
constructed the scriptural stories (like the ones found in Genesis 1 11) in such a way

Aboriginals Are The Indigenous People Of Australia
Aboriginals are the indigenous people of Australia. Australia was invaded by the British in 1788 and
forced the Aboriginals off their land and into training camps and reserves (Murray, 2001). The
Aboriginal population greatly declined due to diseases introduced by the British and the lack of
nutrition; the invasion also disconnected nations from one another (Murry, 2001). There are over five
hundred nations in Australia, and many of them are still hunter gathers living in remote areas of
Australia (Altman, 2007). All of the nations articulate through different languages (Riley, 2014).

Aboriginals believe that people and the environment are split into two halves: one half mirrors the
other which represents land, air, water, and geographical features (Riley, 2014). They also believe that
to understand the universe, the two mirror images must come together. In traditional nations and
languages, they have their own guidelines for moiety (Riley, 2014). Children will either inherit the
mother s or the father s moiety and can only marry someone with a different moiety (Riley, 2014).
People who have the same moiety are considered siblings and support one another (Riley, 2014).
When support is provided by someone, it is to be paid back by either the person receiving the support
or by someone in the family (Riley, 2014). Aboriginals don t have cousins comparable to modern
cultures; they have brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers (Riley, 2014).
Totems
Totems comprise the second level of the kinship system; they create a balance among the nations
(Riley, 2014). Every person receives their own totem which becomes their responsibility, and each
person has four totems that represent their nation, clan, family and individuality (Riley, 2014). Totems
link a person to the universe and symbolize their strengths and weaknesses (Riley, 2014). The totems
from the nation, clan, and family are predetermined, but the individual totem is given by an elder in
the community; it can be received at a young age or later in life when their identity is determined

compounds are readily degraded in aqueous medium by soil and microorganisms present in the

reduced below a certain limit, aquatic life is affected adversely. Oil spillage from tankers and ships

Laurel Creek Health Care Center v. Bishop

FACTS
Gilbert Bishop was admitted to Laurel Creek Health Care Center on July 23, 2002, after arriving via
ambulance without family present. During that examination, Gilbert communicated to Laurel Creek
staff that he could not use his hands well enough to write or hold a pencil. Gilbert was otherwise
found to be mentally competent. Gilbert s sister, Rachel Combs, arrived after Gilbert, she offered to
sign the admissions forms, but Laurel Creek employees told her that it was their policy to have the
patient s spouse sign the admissions papers if the patient was unable to sign them. Rachel also testified
that Gilbert asked her to get his wife, Anna ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
REASON
Laurel Creek first argues that this is a case of actual agency and that Anna Bishop has actual authority
as Gilbert s agent to sign the admissions paperwork as is therefore bound by the arbitration agreement
therein.
We agree with Laurel Creek that Gilbert created an actual agency relationship between him and his
wife. According to his sister, Rachel, Gilbert specifically asked that his wife be brought to the nursing
home so that she could sign the admissions documents for him, and Anna acted upon that delegation
of authority and signed the admissions papers. This is consistent with the creation of actual authority
as described in the Restatement (Third) of Agency § 2.01, comment c (2006). The Restatement
explains the rationale for the creation of actual agency in three steps. First, the principal manifests
assent to be affected by the agent s action. In the instant case, Gilbert asked that Anna come to the
hospital to sign the papers for him. Second, the agent s actions establish the agent s consent to act on
the principal s behalf. Here, Anna signed all the admissions papers per her husband s request and
therefore consented to act on Gilbert s behalf. Third, by acting within such authority, the agent affects
the principal s legal relations with third parties. Clearly here, Anna s actions affected Gilbert s
relations with Laurel Creek, a third party.
The trial court acknowledged that Gilbert had the

For most students, a break in school signifies the end of classes for the term and a well deserved
vacation after a week of intense finals. For others, it is an opportunity to return home to the comfort of
family and friends. Yet other students take advantage of the opportunity to earn some money.
However, it can also be a time of change. Seamus Heaney s Mid Term Break brilliantly depicts the
feeling of loss by using irony, imagery, time and symbolism to detail the timing of events when a
tragedy occurs in his family.
Heaney first uses irony in the title giving readers the sense that the poem will be about the exciting
and fun times of a school break. The word mid term references a point in time as Heaney begins to
describe the time line of events of a student when a personal tragedy occurs back home. Another
reference to time is the word break used here to signify that something has come to an end.
Heaney writes the poem in a chronological order to show how he dealt with the emotional aspect of
death as a student. The poem begins with I sat all morning in the college sick bay (l. 1) to establish the
starting time and provides the approximate age (time) of the student. The use of the word sick is a clue
that the break is not a typical ending to the school term. When someone goes to the nurse s office
during school, it is usually because they are sick. Heaney first uses symbolism with the careful choice
of the words Counting bells knelling classes to

Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi Essay
Captivity in Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi, is a strongly emphasized theme. Fideaus the
protagonist is constantly constrained and surveilled within the realms of the Egyptian society
subsequently being emotionally, and twice literally, captive. The significance of captivity in Woman at
Point Zero is not only for plot or dramatic effect. In the writing of Woman At Point Zero Nawal El
Saadawi wishes to inform the reader about the captivity felt by some women in suppressive countries.
In this way, she means the protagonist Firdaus to not only represent one woman but many. Captivity in
Woman at Point Zero is not only that of the literal, lock and key. Throughout the novel Firdaus is
subject to varying forms of captivity, emotionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On describing her captivity in marriage Firdaus also states A virtuous woman was not supposed to
complain about her husband, her duty was perfect obedience. , thus, in order to be good one must be
totally submissive. This description of a virtuous woman shows how ingrained social expectations
were in the society of 1970 s , if one must be perfectly obedient to one other person at all times, then
obviously they are captive in both expectations and duty, a duty that was for Firdaus, forced upon her.
The captivity is not physical, but rather mental and inflicted onto Firdaus from societal expectations.
Firdaus later reflects upon the captivity she felt in her marriage stating I would rather be a free
prostitute than an enslaved wife. The adjective enslaved shows that Firdaus believes wives to be,
literal slaves, captive in their marriage. Stating she would prefer to be a prostitute instead of a wife is
shocking to a western reader, as generally being a wife is thought to be freer and safer than having to
sell your body. Al Sadawi in this phrase not only shocks the reader, but further introduces the reader to
the foreign paradigm of a middle eastern wife and the sheer desperation due to captivity experienced.
Literal captivity in Firdauses life is experienced under Bayoumi, who entraps Firdaus and prevents her
from having physical and emotional freedom as he traps her in his apartment, using her a sex object
for himself and his

Career Goal Statement
Goal Statement Sport is the force that unites and empowers us to be better, no matter how you look,
what you believe or what language you speak. These words of Olympian Simone Biles illustrate my
life long passion for sports and the science behind it. I had been an athlete all my life and planned on
continuing my track and field career at the collegiate level before a critical injury switched my focus
from athletics to academics. When I began my studies at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs,
I knew my future would involve helping athletes grow to their fullest potential in strength, athleticism,
and overall health. Having majored in Health Science with a focus in Health and Wellness Promotion
and a minor in Nutrition, I would now like to concentrate on Strength and Conditioning. My
professional background revolves around the fitness industry through years of group fitness
instruction and personal training at various fitness centers around town, including the Gallogly

Symbolism in Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Gonzalo Barril Merino 3EMC Lord of the Flies Essay Describe the use of symbolism in Lord of the
Flies By understanding symbols, you get a better picture of the novel Lord of the Flies and the hidden
messages and references to human nature and a criticism of society. The author, William Golding, uses
a huge amount of symbolism to reflect society of the outer world with the island. Symbols of fire, the
conch and water are described all throughout the novel. Fire represents hope, strength and knowledge,
but it also represents disorder and destruction, switching from good and useful to evil and
uncontrollable. The conch, a precious shining pink shell, found by Piggy, rescued by Ralph, and later
given to Piggy to hold, represents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rain generates tension and also influences the kids to take bad decisions and act by their instincts.
Ralph dislikes rain; he stated he didn t like clouds, because it reminded him of the day the landed on
the island. Rain is a symbol of tension and discomfort, because kids feel strange when the rain falls of
they re reminded of it, for example, in the second chapter, when Piggy shouts to the kids because they
ran straight to make the fire instead of thinking in shelters. Finally, during Simon s death scene,
waterfalls of rain descended from the clouds, generating even more tension. This tension generated
Simon s death, and the kids negating they participated. Symbols are necessary to understand Lord of
the Flies, because the author makes a complex description of society and human nature, reflecting it in
symbols and characters. The conch represents democracy, and the civilized part of human nature; the
fire represents power and destruction, and the savage part of human nature; and finally water, that
represents an intermediate state. Personally, Lord of the flies is a novel I wouldn t have understood
completely if it weren t for the classes dedicated to analyze the book and it secret meanings and
messages. I would just have read it as a common book, without analyzing how society is

Types Of A Secondary Fermentation
The process:
The brawlers are filled with water and the malts are added once the temperature begins to rise and it is
all left to boil. Once boiled, the hops are added. It is then left to boil for around 80 minutes. After 80
minutes the brew is left to cool until reaches 25C then it must be transferred to the formentor. Once in
the formentor, the yeast is added and the formentor closed for around two weeks until all the sugar
compounds from the malts have been devoured by the yeast, and the alcohol content has been added.
The brew is then transferred to a keg, where sugar is added, this allows the brew to go through what is
called a secondary fermentation. This increase alcohol percentage as well as giving the brew the
common bubbly beer qualities.
Process breakdown:
Malts are the source of beer s colour and taste as well as the sugar compound which feeds the yeast
and gives beer its alcohol content. Barley is the most common source used, often with a touch of rye
or wheat, to add a fuller flavour. All barley needs to be dried and roasted, and it is the mount of
roasting with offers the light to dark ale ratio. Longer roasted, darker, barley is used to make darker or
fuller tasting beers, like that of Stouts. Less roasted barley, however, is used in some ales as it is
lighter in both colour and flavour, like that of blonde or pale ales. Different malts, such as wheat or
rye, give different and distinct flavours to the beer. Rye is known for its light and refreshing addition

Theories Of Development And Development Influence Human...
As our society continues to expand and develop, it is often wondered who exactly figured out how
people develop and learn. Dating back to the 1800s, numerous different theorists have researched and
experimented to interpret learning and development. Some major theorists that are incorporated with
theories of development include Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and Erik Erikson. Along with the theories
of development, there are theories of learning. The four main theories include cognitive,
constructivism, social cognitive, and situative. First and foremost, Jean Piaget can be considered a
pioneer in psychology. His theory is considered one of the most influential and comprehensive
theories of cognitive development. This theory focuses on how nature and development influence
human intelligence. Piaget also describes how crucial a child s environment is when the child is
maturing and interacting with changes throughout their life. Different life changes can teach a child
right or wrong, cause and effect, and a comprehensive learning about how time and space work. In
Piaget s theory, he discusses the four stages to cognitive development: sensorimotor, preoperational,
concrete operational, and formal operational. The sensorimotor stage is how a child orients himself
with the constant physical movements and actions along with a corresponding stimulus representing
the same thing. Therefore, a child is only aware of something that is right in front of them. For
example, the constant

Mental Health Issues In Social Media
2.2 The situation now Looking back at how the stigma surrounding mental illness impact on people in
results of media portrayal, there is an urgent need in reducing stigma and raising awareness in order to
prevent social discrimination of people with mental illness and to encourage those with mental illness
to speak up what they are going through. Patrick Corrigan Illinois Institute of Technology
psychologist stated that it was as bad as it is 20 years ago (Yuhas, 2014). Benefiting the convenience
of social media in our today s world, Betton, Borschmann, Docherty, Coleman, Brown and Henderson
(2015), taking into account the capability of social media in overcoming this matter. Due to the
explosion of new technology, modern info spectrum is now a part of our modern lifestyle. The

development of different fields in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, instead of focusing on being aware of mental illness, they are terrified of it. Repeated
use of negative and inaccurate images of mentally ill individuals, mental health professionals and also
psychotherapy leads the society to discriminate these group of people. This problem is getting worst
from time to time and it needs to be reduce. The incorporation of campaign in social media as a
medium to raise awareness regarding this matter I seen as a promising avenue in stigma reduction as it
improves the condition, hence breaking down the stereotypes (Research and Development
Cooperation, 2012). One of the latest campaigns done by The National Alliance on Mental Illness of
New York City which is #IWILLLISTEN, has a positive feedback. If more people join in raising
consciousness about this matter, there will be an opportunity for the everyone to change public
attitudes towards mental health through social media

Unethical Animal Testing
Many people often oversee the effects of animal testing. This has been going on for decades and many
are unaware of the results and the damages animal testing can cause. Animals undergo a lot of stress
and pain when they are put through experimentations. Many have debated that it is unethical to test on
animals while others say it helps to protect the safety of humans. In my opinion, animal testing is cruel
and should be made illegal. Their lives are just as important as human lives and should not be treated
as experimental animals. The system of an animal differs from the human system, therefore even if a
tested product did not harm the animal, it may or may not be harmful to humans. Hence, our body
system reactions differ from the bodies of an animal. It has been scientifically proven that 90% of the
animals being tested in labs results in death while only a handful of animal experiments are successful.
There are multiple alternative methods rather than forcefully harming innocent animals. I will explore
how animal testing can affect the health of the animals and if there is possibly a better alternative
rather than testing on animals.

  • 2. Painting, Violet Persian Set With Red Lip Wraps By Dale... The exhibition that focuses on contemporary artworks since 1960 will be small, containing only two pieces. The pieces are both sculptures, Violet Persian Set with Red Lip Wraps by Dale Chihuly and Nefertiti by Wendall Castle. The theme of the exhibition will be about the reimagining of the exotic female form through abstract sculpture specifically, in the round, free standing sculptures. Both Chihuly s piece as well as Castle s fit this theme as they depict abstract forms that can be interpreted as feminine. However, the pieces look radically different from one another and are fairly abstract. One sculpture shows a strong and regal womanly form while the other could be interpreted as the exact opposite. Both sculpture s in the exhibition can also be seen as being inspired by the exotic and romanticized past. At a glance, Violet Persian set with red lip wraps is a very abstract form with many different parts and pieces. There are cone shapes wrapped in thin waved sheets of blown glass. It appears as though Chihuly uses cane working in his piece as there are stripes of color throughout each layer. It measures approximately 2.5 feet by 2 feet by 2 feet and is made of twenty different sections of sculpted glass that must be disassembled and reassembled every time it is moved. The outer wraps, like shells, gently wrap the glass shapes in their folds. The interior sculptures take on the shapes of cones, trumpets and petals and are nestled closely together. The sculpture can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Swimming At High School Swimming Swimming is a skill most learn as means for pure survival. However, some people take the skill to the next level, and participate in the sport of competitive swimming. Ranging from local neighborhood summer swim leagues to the world broadcasted Olympics, competitive swimming has participants of all levels. Among these levels is the high school team level, which is commonly found among the many sports on most high schools lists. At any level of competitive swimming, the swimmers showcase their talents at highly anticipated swim meets. To the spectators swim meets are an exciting venue to view the individual athlete s incredible talents. However, behind the scenes there is so much more to be discovered. Although my visit confirmed my thoughts on how exciting the swim meet atmosphere is, I was surprised to learn about the team aspect of a sport that is usually thought of as an individual sport. Like most high school swim meets, the district twelve swim meet started bright and early on a wintry morning. It was around 6:30am, when the Samuel Clemens high school swim team boarded the bright yellow school bus to venture out to the natatorium. This particular meet was being held at the Josh Davis natatorium, which is a Northeast Side ISD facility. After a brief forty minute bus ride, the eager team arrived to the gigantic two story brown building, that read Josh Davis Natatorium directly above the front door. The parking lot was gradually filling up with more school ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. hemingway Essay Ernest Hemingway was an American writer. He was born in 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois. He committed suicide in 1961 in Ketchum, Idaho (Burges 17). Even today Hemingway is one of the most recognized authors in the world. Hemingway s experiences during World War I are directly shown in many of his works. His general outlook on life is reflected in the adventures of his characters. It is clear that Hemingway had a desire to be part of the war even though, due to bad vision he was unable to enlist in the army and fight in the war. Instead he lied about his age and went to Italy to become an ambulance driver. While in Italy he experienced many things that he would later go on to write about in works such as A Farewell to Arms and For Whom the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While at post one night Hemingway was first wounded by an Austrian mortar shell, then the same night he was further wounded by machine gun fire while he was carrying an Italian soldier to safety. Though badly wounded his injuries were not fatal; all his injures where contained to his legs (www.timelesshemingway.com). Hemingway spent five days in a field hospital before an excruciating train trip to Milan. In Milan things took an upward turn when surgery was successful. Hemingway was regarded as a hero and reported in newspapers and newsreels at home as the first American wounded in Italy (TimelessHemingway 2). It is debatable whether this was true but no matter, Hemingway was enjoying himself. World War One was the setting of many of Hemingway s stories. He used his personal experiences as their basis but enhanced them greatly. In 1929 Hemingway published A Farewell to Arms; the novel that many critics consider to be the best ever written about World War One (Burgess 56). It is based on Hemingway s personal experiences during the war. The main character, Lt. Frederic Henry, is wounded, just as Hemingway was. He is hospitalized and falls in love with a nurse. Hemingway also fell in love with his wartime nurse. But Hemingway took the characters further than his wartime experience. He created action from later experiences. He was very good at putting things together. He made up whatever he needed to suit his purposes (Hemingway 87). If the actual events worked, he stuck ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Coughran 5/10/17 Objective: The objective in Lab 8 is to measure wavelength of five emission lines of light and a laser beam through the principle of light interference. Theory: Light passed through a transmission grating is often sent in all directions due to interference. The grating acts as a new wave source and causes the light to travel in different paths. Equation 1 below shows the relationship between path difference and light direction due to constructive interference. D represents the line spacing and sinƟ=a/c according to the drawing below. mλ=dsinƟ Equation 1 Equation 2 below can be used when small angle values are present (such as when m=1) and is a ... Then, the light positions, a, were measured f=or the first order (m=1) and second order (m=2) light beams to determine the angle Ɵ for each. This data was organized in an Excel table and used to find the wavelength, λ, of the laser through Equation 1. This value was then compared to the theoretical value for wavelength of the laser, which was 6.328x 〖10〗^( 7)m, and the percent error was calculated between the two. Procedure B Wavelength Measurement of Light Color The diffraction grating was used to measure the angle values of different light colors using a collimator. The wavelength of each light beam according to the corresponding color was then calculated using the specific angle value. In this procedure, a telescope was used to form an image from the diffracted light from the transmission grating. A mercury light source was also used as a light ray source of ... I will explain how it is catered for in the classroom, referring to materials and activities. Sensitive Periods The Sensitive Periods are the best times for a child to learn a specific skill and are critical to the child s self development. The child has this inner urge to undertake the task in order to live. Although, once this period passes it is possible for the child to learn the new skill but with much more difficulty. She set clear expectations very early on in the school year and this is evident through the respect the children show her and the order that upholds in the classroom. The expectations included; * Children are given the freedom to move, to communicate, to choose activity and to work with others. * Children must not disrespect the materials. The materials must only be used for the purpose intended. * Children can only choose what he/she has been presented. * If the child cannot use a specific piece of material, it is removed and re presented or, a period of time is given to allow the child s development. • 9. The Theory Of Social Contract Contractualism, in general, is whether or not an action is deemed right or wrong can be understood in terms of contracts, and is furthered with the theory of social contract. Additionally, contractualism can be distinguished from Hobbesian contractualism (also known as contractarianism) and Kantian contractualism, whereby the former looks to contracts made by individuals of a society for the sake of personal gain and benefit, while the latter sees to contracts made by individuals of any given society that consider each other and themselves to be free and equal members of State. The theory of the social contract has existed for the longest time, it speaks of an agreement (or agreements) made by the members of any society and community to give up certain individual freedoms for the betterment of that society itself, i.e state protection and security. Firstly in history, power was to reside in the country s monarch, as it was divinely ordained. Over time, however, there was a need for more justification for where power over the state laid other than just simply being divinely granted or ordained . Thus, during the Siècle des Lumières, England a country that has for the longest time had a monarch in power (admittedly of which the very same monarch still exists today) entered great political, administrative and constitutional change where England was entering a transformation becoming a modern State. • 11. Thomas Paine The Crisis No. 1 The Revolutionary Era was a turbulent time in American History. The voices of revolution rang from all over the colonies. King George III was seen as a tyrant, Britain s taxes were oppressing, and the colonist s sought political freedom at last. However, this movement towards freedom did not spur overnight. Leaders such as Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine used their skills as an author and orator to persuade others to join the revolution. Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1 boosted soldier s morale and urged them to continue bravely in their fight against Britain. Thomas Jefferson s Declaration of Independence formally removed Great Britain from their rule over the colonies. Jefferson used powerful and moving statements to list the reasons for the colonies separation. Although Paine and Jefferson s writing aided in the persuasion of political leaders; many colonists were not able to read these powerful political works. Had the writing of Paine and Jefferson been easily accessible for colonists, Paine s The Crisis No. 1. would have caused a greater effect on the colonists perspectives than Jefferson s Declaration of Independence. During the American Revolution, morale was low and many colonists wanted to give up their fight against the British and return home. • 12. My Life Of My Family I come from a place where people are determined. Determined to surpass the difficult times, determined to make their families proud, determined just to live. Where I m from people could hardly manage to balance buying food and paying for rent. People walked to school, to the grocery store, and to work because not everyone could afford to have and maintain a car. Kids grew up with one parent or none at all. I had both of my parents, a roof over my head, and food on the table. So I was one of the lucky ones. Except things aren t always as simple as they seem. The people around me weren t the only ones who faced difficult situations. Growing up the way I did broke me down and built me back up repeatedly, but because my problems never seemed to compare to others and everyone was struggling with something in their own way, I learned to keep them to myself. My family moved to Fitchburg right before I was going to kindergarten. When we first moved here, we lived in a dangerous neighborhood so my parents wouldn t allow me to associate with the kids on my street. This resulted in me spending a lot of time alone because I was an only child. My mom had a job a few towns away and my dad found work in the next town over. They worked opposite shifts so seeing the two of them together was not a common occurrence. For these reasons, it was incredibly exciting for me as a child when the three of us would venture out to visit a family friend. It was my mom s closest friend, Rob, who lived ... The Case Of A Prayer For Owen Meany By John Irving The American Dream throughout the Century White picket fences, rows of houses that are carbon copies of each other, and the perfect family who owned all of this. In the case of A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving, the author incorporates both the American Dream from the 1950s and 1960s, but also today s take on the subject. (while) North Korea s vice foreign minister, Han Song ryol, said on Friday that the United States was becoming more vicious and aggressive under Mr. Trump and that we will go to war if they choose (LINE NUMBERS). In various other news articles, it is reported that diplomats from not only South Korea, but China are brokering agreements with the United States in hopes of avoiding the war. For years, war with North Korea has been suggested, forgotten, and reevaluated. In 2017, it seems there is growing tension and Americans are not prepared for what could happen if the war was to begin. There is no patriotism in this case, no one is ready to go to war with North Korea. This would not be a war that the men and women of the country would fight; it would be with nuclear weapons and the push of a few buttons. In Irving s book, there is something to be fought for the protection of a country from the evil grasp of Communism. In the case of North Korea, there is only an angry leader who has harboured hatred towards the United States for years. In summary, the American dream currently is not to go to war for the sake of fighting, the people need something to fight for in order to justify their personal American Dream. More important than the historical events are the people involved in creating their dreams. In A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(10) Henry the 1st managed to secure economic control over his kingdom due to the fact that his taxation system removed his economic dependency upon his higher ranking subjects. This was accomplished through the creation of Sheriffs, officials who managed territories in the Kings name. However, unlike the situation in France the land still belonged to the King and he retained the ability to call upon its resources. The aristocracy were accepting of this system due to the financial benefits brought by the tax system. Each individual Sherriff was tasked with collecting a required amount of taxes per year, which was demanded by the treasury at the Exchequer court. Whilst this increased the King s wealth, it was beneficial to the Sheriffs, who were permitted to collect additional taxes in order to enrich themselves. Whilst increasing the King s own finances, it also provided a dependency of the Sheriffs upon the King, in contrast to the situation in France. This dependency originated from the fact that the position of Sheriff was not hereditary, and could only be attained through continuous loyalty to the King. Finally, the King could exercise his authority by calling in the debts of any who didn t remain in his favour, whilst at the same time ignoring the debts of those who did. Overall, Henry the 1st took economic control of his country by creating a system upon which his aristocracy s wealth and resources were dependent upon him. Throughout the book it becomes one question of; did the Founding Fathers establish the United States as a Christian Nation? It was truly meant to be a Christian America but the way of Enlightenment was slowly approaching. Memory is the set of processes used to encode, store, and retrieve information over different periods of time. (openstax) Memory helps develop a human s mind and who they will become through life. Psychology is the study of the human mind and how humans think. Memory is important to psychology because memory shapes a human s character and continues to push someone through each and every day. Many ancient beliefs about memory were surprisingly accurate. Plato saw how one memory can lead to another when he described a lyre that made him think of it owner and then his friend, until a whole, rich picture of events and associations was called up from a simple, instrument. (minninger) There are three major processes someone memory presents every day. These three processes which information passes through are encoding, storage, and retrieval. The first process information encounters is encoding. Encoding is the input of information into the memory system. Encoding can occur through a conscious mind or an unconscious mind. When the mind is unconscious the form of encoding it goes through is called automatic processing, this is taking in little clues from the surrounding environment such as time. I don t generally believe that God speaks directly to me, but this summer some things have happened to me that cannot be explained except to say some type of divine intervention took place. One of these things that happened was God changed my long held view that I had. I myself was once a young earth creationist even though my father (a retired Southern Baptist minister), did not believe in a strict interpretation of the 6 days of creation. My thoughts have changed on this topic after Dr. Fiensy s OT research class this summer. While doing research for my OT, paper I found an enormous amount of research done on the gap theory of Genesis 1:1 3. The Hebrew wording in Genesis 1:2 leaves the possibility of an immeasurable amount of time transacting between verse 1 and 3 (page 144 DTIB). I believe that the Holy Spirit has led me to this revelation in my own personal walk with the Lord. I believe for me this is one of those moments where I have experienced growth that has moved me closer in my relationship with God. I agree that the Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 accounts of creation definitely counteract the pagan Myths of creation (page 144 DTIB). The epic of Gilgamesh seems to share some similar words and concepts, but Genesis 1 reminds us that all these things created were created by one God. People who have the same moiety are considered siblings and support one another (Riley, 2014). When support is provided by someone, it is to be paid back by either the person receiving the support or by someone in the family (Riley, 2014). Aboriginals don t have cousins comparable to modern cultures; they have brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers (Riley, 2014). Totems Totems comprise the second level of the kinship system; they create a balance among the nations (Riley, 2014). Every person receives their own totem which becomes their responsibility, and each person has four totems that represent their nation, clan, family and individuality (Riley, 2014). Totems link a person to the universe and symbolize their strengths and weaknesses (Riley, 2014). The totems from the nation, clan, and family are predetermined, but the individual totem is given by an elder in the community; it can be received at a young age or later in life when their identity is determined (Riley, ... Bishop Court of Appeals of Kentucky,____S.W.3d___(2010) FACTS Gilbert Bishop was admitted to Laurel Creek Health Care Center on July 23, 2002, after arriving via ambulance without family present. During that examination, Gilbert communicated to Laurel Creek staff that he could not use his hands well enough to write or hold a pencil. Gilbert was otherwise found to be mentally competent. Gilbert s sister, Rachel Combs, arrived after Gilbert, she offered to sign the admissions forms, but Laurel Creek employees told her that it was their policy to have the patient s spouse sign the admissions papers if the patient was unable to sign them. Rachel also testified that Gilbert asked her to get his wife, Anna ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... REASON Laurel Creek first argues that this is a case of actual agency and that Anna Bishop has actual authority as Gilbert s agent to sign the admissions paperwork as is therefore bound by the arbitration agreement therein. We agree with Laurel Creek that Gilbert created an actual agency relationship between him and his wife. According to his sister, Rachel, Gilbert specifically asked that his wife be brought to the nursing home so that she could sign the admissions documents for him, and Anna acted upon that delegation of authority and signed the admissions papers. This is consistent with the creation of actual authority as described in the Restatement (Third) of Agency § 2.01, comment c (2006). The Restatement explains the rationale for the creation of actual agency in three steps. First, the principal manifests assent to be affected by the agent s action. In the instant case, Gilbert asked that Anna come to the hospital to sign the papers for him. Second, the agent s actions establish the agent s consent to act on the principal s behalf. Here, Anna signed all the admissions papers per her husband s request and therefore consented to act on Gilbert s behalf. Third, by acting within such authority, the agent affects the principal s legal relations with third parties. Clearly here, Anna s actions affected Gilbert s relations with Laurel Creek, a third party. The trial court acknowledged that Gilbert had the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. An Analysis Of Seamus Heaney s Mid-Term Break For most students, a break in school signifies the end of classes for the term and a well deserved vacation after a week of intense finals. For others, it is an opportunity to return home to the comfort of family and friends. Yet other students take advantage of the opportunity to earn some money. However, it can also be a time of change. Seamus Heaney s Mid Term Break brilliantly depicts the feeling of loss by using irony, imagery, time and symbolism to detail the timing of events when a tragedy occurs in his family. Heaney first uses irony in the title giving readers the sense that the poem will be about the exciting and fun times of a school break. The word mid term references a point in time as Heaney begins to describe the time line of events of a student when a personal tragedy occurs back home. Another reference to time is the word break used here to signify that something has come to an end. Heaney writes the poem in a chronological order to show how he dealt with the emotional aspect of death as a student. The poem begins with I sat all morning in the college sick bay (l. 1) to establish the starting time and provides the approximate age (time) of the student. The use of the word sick is a clue that the break is not a typical ending to the school term. When someone goes to the nurse s office during school, it is usually because they are sick. Heaney first uses symbolism with the careful choice of the words Counting bells knelling classes to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Fideaus the protagonist is constantly constrained and surveilled within the realms of the Egyptian society subsequently being emotionally, and twice literally, captive. The significance of captivity in Woman at Point Zero is not only for plot or dramatic effect. In the writing of Woman At Point Zero Nawal El Saadawi wishes to inform the reader about the captivity felt by some women in suppressive countries. On describing her captivity in marriage Firdaus also states A virtuous woman was not supposed to complain about her husband, her duty was perfect obedience. , thus, in order to be good one must be totally submissive. This description of a virtuous woman shows how ingrained social expectations were in the society of 1970 s , if one must be perfectly obedient to one other person at all times, then obviously they are captive in both expectations and duty, a duty that was for Firdaus, forced upon her. The captivity is not physical, but rather mental and inflicted onto Firdaus from societal expectations. Firdaus later reflects upon the captivity she felt in her marriage stating I would rather be a free prostitute than an enslaved wife. The adjective enslaved shows that Firdaus believes wives to be, literal slaves, captive in their marriage. Stating she would prefer to be a prostitute instead of a wife is shocking to a western reader, as generally being a wife is thought to be freer and safer than having to sell your body. Al Sadawi in this phrase not only shocks the reader, but further introduces the reader to the foreign paradigm of a middle eastern wife and the sheer desperation due to captivity experienced. Literal captivity in Firdauses life is experienced under Bayoumi, who entraps Firdaus and prevents her from having physical and emotional freedom as he traps her in his apartment, using her a sex object for himself and his ... The author, William Golding, uses a huge amount of symbolism to reflect society of the outer world with the island. Symbols of fire, the conch and water are described all throughout the novel. Ralph dislikes rain; he stated he didn t like clouds, because it reminded him of the day the landed on the island. Rain is a symbol of tension and discomfort, because kids feel strange when the rain falls of they re reminded of it, for example, in the second chapter, when Piggy shouts to the kids because they ran straight to make the fire instead of thinking in shelters. Finally, during Simon s death scene, waterfalls of rain descended from the clouds, generating even more tension. This tension generated Simon s death, and the kids negating they participated. Symbols are necessary to understand Lord of the Flies, because the author makes a complex description of society and human nature, reflecting it in symbols and characters. The conch represents democracy, and the civilized part of human nature; the fire represents power and destruction, and the savage part of human nature; and finally water, that represents an intermediate state. • 44. Types Of A Secondary Fermentation The process: The brawlers are filled with water and the malts are added once the temperature begins to rise and it is all left to boil. Once boiled, the hops are added. It is then left to boil for around 80 minutes. After 80 minutes the brew is left to cool until reaches 25C then it must be transferred to the formentor. Once in the formentor, the yeast is added and the formentor closed for around two weeks until all the sugar compounds from the malts have been devoured by the yeast, and the alcohol content has been added. The brew is then transferred to a keg, where sugar is added, this allows the brew to go through what is called a secondary fermentation. This increase alcohol percentage as well as giving the brew the common bubbly beer qualities. Process breakdown: Malts are the source of beer s colour and taste as well as the sugar compound which feeds the yeast and gives beer its alcohol content. Barley is the most common source used, often with a touch of rye or wheat, to add a fuller flavour. All barley needs to be dried and roasted, and it is the mount of roasting with offers the light to dark ale ratio. Longer roasted, darker, barley is used to make darker or fuller tasting beers, like that of Stouts. Less roasted barley, however, is used in some ales as it is lighter in both colour and flavour, like that of blonde or pale ales. Dating back to the 1800s, numerous different theorists have researched and experimented to interpret learning and development. Some major theorists that are incorporated with theories of development include Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and Erik Erikson. Along with the theories of development, there are theories of learning. The four main theories include cognitive, constructivism, social cognitive, and situative. First and foremost, Jean Piaget can be considered a pioneer in psychology. His theory is considered one of the most influential and comprehensive theories of cognitive development. This theory focuses on how nature and development influence human intelligence. Piaget also describes how crucial a child s environment is when the child is maturing and interacting with changes throughout their life. Different life changes can teach a child right or wrong, cause and effect, and a comprehensive learning about how time and space work. In Piaget s theory, he discusses the four stages to cognitive development: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. The sensorimotor stage is how a child orients himself with the constant physical movements and actions along with a corresponding stimulus representing the same thing. Therefore, a child is only aware of something that is right in front of them. For example, the constant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Unethical Animal Testing Many people often oversee the effects of animal testing. This has been going on for decades and many are unaware of the results and the damages animal testing can cause. Animals undergo a lot of stress and pain when they are put through experimentations. Many have debated that it is unethical to test on animals while others say it helps to protect the safety of humans. In my opinion, animal testing is cruel and should be made illegal. Their lives are just as important as human lives and should not be treated as experimental animals. The system of an animal differs from the human system, therefore even if a tested product did not harm the animal, it may or may not be harmful to humans. Hence, our body system reactions differ from the bodies of an animal. It has been scientifically proven that 90% of the animals being tested in labs results in death while only a handful of animal experiments are successful.
