Alabama Child Support Case Study
The non custodial parent (NCP), Mr. Pugh s testimony revealed that the bank account is in his name,
but the money in the account belongs to his wife. The dispute is regarding the money that was frozen
in the account. The money was from his wife s 401k retirement account. The NCP verified that the
account is a joint account, the money belongs to his wife, and he would not touch her money. Mobile
County DHR representative s testimony revealed that on June 26, 2003, Georgia Child Support sent a
request to Alabama Child Support to establish an order of support against the NCP. Alabama courts
established support for the child on August 23, 2004; setting child support at a rate of $390.00 a month
effective September 1, 2004. On December 8, 2008, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DHR s Response: Based on the NCP s allegation of a mistake of fact the money taken out of account
ending in XXX528 is a joint account. The Child Support Enforcement Division reviewed the facts and
determined that $6,353.26 will be refunded to joint account owner, Charlene Pugh. If the bank has
already submitted the funds, a check will be mailed to Mrs. Pugh. Therefore, the lien/levy will remain
in effect. DHR s Recommendations: DHR s policy references Code of Alabama 1975, 30 3 198 and 30
3 197 (a) (6), which authorizes the IV D agency to file a Notice of Lien against real and personal
property of any NCP who resides or owns property in the State and owes past due support and also
allows the Agency to issue a Notice of Levy to the financial institution to freeze assets to satisfy child
support arrearage. We recommend that the lien/levy remain in place and any money collected to be
applied to arrears

Fred Hollows Significance in Promoting Change for...
Introduction
Good morning/ afternoon,
My name is Mary Doe and it is an honour to represent the Queensland Youth Parliament during
reconciliation week. This presentation will focus on Fred Hollows significance in promoting change
for Indigenous Australia. As you may well know Fred Hollows was an able advocate for Indigenous
health and focused much of his life on ending curable blindness among numerous Indigenous
communities.
Paragraph 1 Who is Fred Hollows and what were his main achievements.
Fred Hollows was born in New Zealand in 1929. He was not only a terrific ophthalmologist but also a
skilled surgeon and social justice activist, as he believed everyone was equal due to his respectful and
non judgemental family upbringing. Initially Fred wanted to work in the church but later changed his
mind to medicine after working in a mental health hospital. At the age of 22, he started Medical school
at the University of Otago and then in 1965 to continue his ophthalmologic work.
Paragraph 2 Career beginnings
Fred started his medical career by attending the University of Otago Medical School in 1951, at the
age of 22. Fred held many different positions in his early career including being a medical intern, a
house surgeon and a clinician before specialising in Ophthalmology. After qualifying as an
ophthalmologist Fred worked all around New Zealand including Wellington Hospital, which was the
biggest in the country. After he moved to Australia in 1965, in the late 1960 s to

The Pros And Cons Of Animal Experimentation
Animal experimentation has been a controversial subject for decades. Millions of animals have been
killed in United States laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity driven experiments,
and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. Animal experimentation has proven to be an
imprecise way of research and practices in animal cruelty. There are alternatives to animal testing that
have been proven more accurate, but because of tradition these alternatives are overlooked by many.
The three R s of animal testing, reduction, refinement, and replacement, should be implemented. The
testing of animals does not have enough beneficial results to deem it necessary. Many drugs proven
safe for animals have been proven harmful to humans in human trials. In order to make
experimentation more accurate, scientists should rely on human cells and carefully conducted clinical
trials with humans (as cited in Thomas, 2009, p. 95).
Stop Animal Experimentation
Animal experimentation has become a very controversial subject since the development of more
advanced technology. Estimates of the number of animals used each year for experiments in United
States laboratories range from seventeen to seventy million (as cited in Animal Friends Croatia , 2009,
p. 15). Animal experimentation, which is also known as animal testing, is experiments that use non
human animals that seek to control the variables that affect the behavior or biological system under
study. Although animal

Femininity, Masculinity, And Masculinity
Womanhood is often associated with femininity while manhood with masculinity. Masculinity is the
idea that men are tough both physically and mentally. Femininity, a term associated with being women
is used to describe a women s comportment and attitude. A gentle individual male or female, who
wears dresses, skirts, high heels, makeup, and has long hair would be identified as feminine.
Unfortunately, society judges and criticizes a women who do not depict feminine characteristics. Such
women are regarded as either homosexual or queer. I chose two pictures of Grace Jones to compare in
this essay since she happens to be a gender bender and victim of alike persecutions. Additionally,
Grace Jones is a supermodel and singer from Jamaica, who s renowned for cross dressing and artistic
fashion styles (Williams). The picture titled, Grace Jones/Nightclubbing, was derived from the
National Portrait Gallery, while the other from, Essense website, Jones demonstrates that women can
be feminine or soft in one picture and masculine or hard in the other picture through her appearance.
Despite being women, Jones s clothes appear manly in one picture and womanly in the other. Jones is
wearing an Armani pitch black jacket suit accompanied by a cigarette in her mouth in the first picture.
Seeing how half of her head is shaved clean, the top part cut short and flat, it would be perceived as
deviance, for men are expected to look in this manner. She stands upright, strong, which are

Affluenza Arguments
Affluenza Anyone who kills innocent people should not be able to avoid jail just because their family
is rich. Ethan Couch a teenager killed 4 innocent people and injuring 2 of his passengers while driving
drunk. For his actions he was supposed to go to jail but instead got probation for being diagnosed with
affluenza. Which is when someone does not understand or control what they do simply because they
come from a rich family. Affluenza is not an acceptable reason for someone to avoid jail time because
he is old enough to know what was right or wrong and he is no different from any other kids. Some
people might argue that affluenza is a good enough reason to avoid jail. These people believe this
because they say that he is yet still undeveloped and his parents didn t teach him anything. For
instance, in the article affluenza isn t as crazy as it sounds, by Danny Cevallos argues that As children
our functions such as risk assessment and judgement are still undeveloped. (Cervallos, p28)It is very
true that we are still young and we do not yet understand everything. While this is a valid argument,
what these people forget is that we live in a world where everything can teach you a lesson. According

A Literary Analysis Of Alice Walker sThe Color Purple )
Pretty Colors
(A Literary Analysis on Alice Walker s, The Color Purple) Alice Walker was a writer who influenced
many people in her time, and continues to influence a copious amount of people still today
considering she is still living! Her writing explores multidimensional kinships among women and
embraces the redemptive power of social and political revolution. (Whitted) Her works range from
short poems to long novels that have been read by thousands. In each, she presents several messages.
In the novel, The Color Purple, Walker is able to portray three main messages.
The first message in Purple talks about the importance of family. As an adult, Celie s family was
separated from her, and she was the receiver of the aggressive touch of a man throughout her entire
married life. Celie didn t have a family for quite some time in the literal sense, however she found
family with those around her. Those that she became friends with were the ones that became her
home. They took care of her and made sure that she wouldn t make decisions that she would regret for
the rest of her life. When Celie was in a bad situation, Shug was able to get her out of it, and lead
Celie to a place where she could be happy. In the end, Celie s family is all reunited with her and
everything turns out for the best! Believe in good things to come. (Holland) The main message,
however, is that family may not be the people that are related to you through blood or marriage, but
family just might be in the people that take care of you no matter what.
The second message in Walker s story is about courage. While living in an abusive relationship, Celie
depended on her courage to carry her through the trial that was living with her husband. Nothing the
Celie did was ever enough for her husband, and he let her know that by hurting her in many different
ways. While many did not perceive Celie as being courageous, others around her found her courage as
inspiring. People sought to become like her. Celie is given the chance to truly show her courage,
though, when her friend Shug gives her a way out, taking her to a new state. She is able to leave her
abusive husband behind, and start a new life. She becomes successful and shows those around her

How The Blood Type Of Blood
Abstract During this lab, students will learn how to perform a process as if it was a real blood test.
Working with four different synthetic blood samples, they will use synthetic antisera to the A, B, and
Rh antigens on red blood cells. Students are able to identify the blood type of each blood sample and
how the blood type is determined.
Introduction The blood is a very important fluid of our body that has many different ways that keep us
healthy. It transports important nutrients and oxygen to our cells and acts in the process of removing
wastes and carbon dioxide from the body.( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) Also, this
specialized fluid helps in defending the body by forming blood clots as a result of a wounded blood
vessel and carrying various cells that are crucial to our health. An average human body s weight is
made of seven to eight percent blood.( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood is made of
different components that perform different actions. It is made of 55 percent plasma and 45 percent
cells. ( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood is liquidy due to the presence of plasma. It
is composed of water, proteins, fats, and salts. The plasma is crucial in transporting the blood cells and
bring waste products to be removed from the body to the kidney and liver. ( American Society of
Hematology . n.d.) The blood cells are main components of the blood and have distinct purposes. Red
blood cells, also known as erythrocytes, are the

Analysis Of The Film Twilight Tattoo
The History of Arlington begins with George Washington. Custis built the Arlington House to
commemorate George Washington and his wife Martha Dandridge. The land once belonged to George
Washington Parke Custis. In 1831 Mary Randolph Custis married Robert E. Lee. A property tax on the
house caused Lee to leave Arlington. The plantation was set aside for a military cemetery thus creating
Arlington National Cemetery. William Christian was the first military official to be buried in Arlington
in 1864. That same year a man named Montgomery Meig appropriated the grounds in June 15, 1864
as a military cemetery so Lee couldn t live in the Arlington House. ... Show more content on

One show, Twilight Tattoo, is presented weekly during the summer at the White House Ellipse. The
show is free and open to the public. The Old Guard annually participates in more than 6,000
ceremonies, an average of 16 per day. Despite this arduous schedule, The Old Guard continuously
prepares for its security and infantry missions by conducting year round training, culminating in a
rigorous evaluation of unit tactical proficiency. Because of this, all soldiers are as familiar with
traditional infantry or military police duties as they are with ceremonial duties. The Tomb Guard
marches 21 steps down the black mat behind the Tomb, turns, faces east for 21 seconds, turns and
faces north for 21 seconds, then takes 21 steps down the mat and repeats the process. After the turn,
the sentinel executes a sharp shoulder arms movement to place the weapon on the shoulder closest to
the visitors to signify that the sentinel stands between the Tomb and any possible threat. Twenty one

Moral Dilemmas in Celia, A Slave by Melton McLaurin
Melton McLaurin s book Celia, A Slave is the account of the trial, conviction, and execution of a
female slave for the murder of her master Robert Newsom in 1855. The author uses evidence
compiled through studying documents from Callaway County, Missouri and the surrounding area
during the middle of the Nineteenth Century. Although much of what can be determine about this
event is merely speculation, McLaurin proposes arguments for the different motives that contribute to
the way in which many of the events unfold. Now throughout the book the main characters , being
Celia, her lawyer Jameson, and the judge William Hall, are all faced with moral decisions that affect
the lives of two different people. The first of the main characters ... Show more content on

Despite the risks that one might have associated with his defense of a slave that had killed her master,
regardless of the motives, Jameson appears to have made every effort to defend her to the best of his
abilities. Even though Jameson appeared to be a good lawyer according to those who knew him: as a
lawyer [Jameson] was not profound (McLaurin 85), so to aid Jameson in labor and research
(McLaurin 85) Hall appointed two lawyers that were subordinate to Jameson. Now Jameson may not
have been the best at trial research, but when it came to his courtroom skills his contemporaries
nevertheless admired him... (McLaurin 85). Though not for his presentation, or his cross examination
skills, but for his almost uncanny ability to read a jury (McLaurin 85). Due to this skill of reading a
jury many who knew him said he was an excellent judge of men... (McLaurin 85) which would have
given him and advantage during Celia s trial, unfortunately the prosecution in this case was (also/to)
strong, led by Robert Prewitt, they virtually prevented Jameson from making any sort of case for the
defense of Celia. Despite the fact that Jameson encountered some resistance from the presiding judge
whose consistent rulings to sustain the state s objections revealed, if not his hostility toward the
defendant, at least a desire for a perfunctory defense

EO is frequently used to treat viral infections such as influenza and the common cold. EO is also
regarded to have antimicrobial activity against pathogenic bacteria, therefore it is also used to treat
wounds to prevent infection.
Penicillin G.
Penicillin G. is also known as Benzylpenicillin. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
Usually Penicillin G is obtained from microbial sources such as Escherichia coli (Cole, 1969). It
works on most Gram positive bacteria, and some Gram negative bacteria.
Gentamicin
Gentamicin is also an antibiotic, like Penicillin, and is used to treat a number of bacterial infections.
Unlike Penicillin, Gentamicin is more effective on Gram negative bacteria, and only works on a
limited number of Gram positive bacteria. It was first used in 1963 as the first clinically useful broad
spectrum antibiotic. (Edson RS, Terrel CL, 1999).
Trigene
Trigene is a disinfectant and was used in the experiment as a positive control.
Sterile water
Sterile water was used in the experiment as a negative control.
Escherichia Coli
Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a pathogenic, Gram negative bacteria, and was used in the experiment to
determine the antimicrobial activity of TTO and EO.

The Loudest Duck By Laura A. Liswood
Throughout the book The Loudest Duck by Laura A. Liswood, we learn about what it means to be
truly diverse and how to obtain this diversity. The book gives many examples of how and why it is
important for companies to be diverse. Through this paper I will be outlining the main points the other
made and share some of the lessons I feel are important.
The first few chapters outline the main problems with diversity that business deal with. While the rest
of the book goes deeper in to the issues and ways to overcome or avoid the problems to create a truly
diverse institute. The author gives background into the Noah s Ark theory as well as the grandma
effect. She also talks about the dynamics of dominate and non dominate groups in the work place as
she relates them to the Elephant and Mouse theory.
The first theory the book looks at is the Noah s Ark theory. The author explains that organizations
often try to become diverse using the Noah s ark model which simply means they try to have one or
more employees that meets each of the minorities. That is, they hire men women and people of color
rather than just hiring the people who are most like them.
This raises more problems than it solves because people are being hired for who they are rather than
the skills that they possess. In this type of situation people who are more qualified for a job may be
pushed aside in order to hire someone who meets the company s diversity needs. Instead of following
this Noah s Ark model

What Are The Benefits Of Lowering The Drinking Age
The legal drinking age has many high school and college students shaking their heads. Despite the
illegality of underage drinking, many youth still participate in the consumption of alcohol before their
21st birthday. Underage drinking is not intrinsically wrong, rather it is criminalized and misperceived
because of current laws. Because the current law regarding underage alcohol consumption is not
working, maintaining that law is illogical and stupid. A simple solution to this problem exists; the
drinking age should be lowered to 18. Many benefits will occur if the drinking age is lowered to the
age a person is legally recognized as an adult, including an economic boost, a decrease in dangerous
drinking, and a decrease in illegal activity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When people irresponsibly over consume alcohol, their judgement becomes impaired and they are
subject to be at a higher risk of injury. For example, binge drinking is the 5th biggest reasons teens
have to visit the hospital (3 4 Blau). With a lower drinking age, young adults would not have to keep
their alcohol consumption clandestine. This means that there would be more available supervision and
access to medical help should a circumstance warrant the need for it. A lower drinking age would also
make the topic of drinking less taboo which would allow people to become more informed about the
dangers of alcohol and help them learn to drink responsibly. Another very important reason to
decriminalize drinking under the age of 21 is to ensure that anyone in need of medical help gets it,
regardless of how inebriated they or their friends are. Often, teens die from drinking because the
people they are with do not call for help if an unfortunate situation occurs. Generally, these people
attempt to wait out a situation, much to the misfortune of whoever is in need of help, because they fear
the possible legal repercussions of having drank. To prevent any person suffering any harm, it is
necessary that the drinking age be

Conscience In The Canterbury Tales
The Prioress s portrait is the first portrait of the General Prologue in which Chaucer displays satire.
Her portrait shows that although she is a prioress, she is not well suited for life in the church and that
she needs to work on a major part of her job: her conscience. Chaucer mentions her conscience twice
within her portrait, but the word is never used in context of her clerical responsibilities, which
Chaucer never mentions even though they should be one of her main priorities. The word is instead
used to praise her on her courtly appearance. Chaucer s use of the word conscience as praise in The
Prioress Portrait allows him to expose her shortcoming as a prioress without explicitly criticizing her.
According to the Medieval English Dictionary, the word conscience in the Medieval period had a few
different definitions. It could refer to one s moral sense of right and wrong with reference to Christian
ethics or it can be one s attitude of mind or feelings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

unexceptional as well. It has the words Amor vincit omnia (I, 162), which means Love conquers all.
This might refer to God s love, but in line with her desire to appear as a lady of the court, it is more
likely a tribute to courtly love instead. Although Chaucer sardonically compliments the prioress on her
appearance, he shows that one of her greatest concerns is her appearance, and her conscience is never

Physical and Chemical Changes Essay

Physical and chemical changes lab essay
Changes in matter occur every day. There are two types of ways matter can be altered; physically and
chemically. Physical changes do not change the composition of the matter while chemical changes
occur when one or more substances turn into a completely new substance. Physical changes can be
seen through an altering of the substances physical property. A substances physical property is
observed and measured without changing the composition of the subject. Descriptive words that
would help to identify a substance s physical property include hard, soft, brittle, flexible, heavy, and

The relationship of reactants and products is shown by a chemical equation. An example of a chemical
change that one could come into contact with daily is rust. Air and iron are the reactants in this
situation while rust is the product. The chemical equation for this reaction would look roughly like
this, O+FE= OFE or rust. This is clearly a chemical change because you cannot reverse it meaning
you cannot take rust and pull out the iron to leave air or vise versa. All chemical changes are finite.
One other example of a chemical change is the burning of any substance. For example if one were to
burn a sheet of paper it would create ash. This chemical change is finite because you cannot change
ash back into paper. Another term to remember when considering changes chemical and physical is
the law of conservation of mass. This law simply means that matter can neither be created nor
destroyed. Two other terms that are important when describing the properties of substances
undergoing changes are extensive and intensive properties. An intensive property is a physical
property of a substance that does not depend upon its size such as viscosity. Extensive properties
however do depend on a substance s size such as mass and volume. A few more important terms to
keep in mind when doing a lab with chemical and physical changes are

Also from time to time insurance companies are offered the opportunity to insure risks that are very
large or complex or simply unusual. In these situations facultative reinsurance is the best alternative
(Wehrhahn 2009).Secondly, treaty reinsurance was devised to solve some of the adverse features of
the facultative method. The treaty method is highly popular mainly because it is not as cumbersome or
as time consuming as the facultative method (Irukwu 1982). Treaty reinsurance involves the
negotiations between the insurance company and reinsurer before creating a reinsurance contract.
Under a treaty reinsurance arrangement all risks that are defined to be object of the agreement are
ceded automatically to the reinsurer, and the reinsurer agrees to accept all those risks (Wehrhahn
2009). Reinsurers creating treaties, would not individually analyse each risk related to the treaty.
Instead they would review the insurance company in question and base their decision related to the
expertise of the company, its risk attitude, its track record, the expected amount of business to be
reinsured and other technical aspects (Wehrhahn 2009).
Reinsurance plays an important role in helping to stabilise the profitability of insurance companies. In
a sector where there can be large swings in losses are liable to occur, reinsurance offers a method
which lessens the financial effects for insurers

The Tempest By William Shakespeare
Brown s insistence that The Tempest is a play of steeped in ambivalence and contradictions is not
entirely unfounded, however. Prospero himself is an extremely powerful magus whose power borders
on the transcendent and divine; he is also a man obsessed with perfecting his art that, at times, can be
base and wicked. He demonstrates compassion and generosity, yet his apathetic and sometimes
contemptuous treatment of other characters raises questions about his moral sensibilities. Within the
drama of the play, these paradoxes create a dynamic that highlights the contrast between Prospero and
those who (seek to) foil him Stephano, Trinculo, and Caliban characters that Brown demarcates as
masterless or othered (273). While he correctly identifies such instances of doubling, Brown conflates
these binaries as markers of colonial discourse, the colonizer and the colonized, and entirely elides the
binary of the noble and the natural. This dichotomy, which is staunchly embedded in the Renaissance
conception of natural order the great chain of being is eminent throughout the play and integral to its
thematic purpose of restoration and redemption. Brown s failure to address the great chain of being in
any capacity throughout his argument is indicative of his limited understanding of the historical
context in which The Tempest was written and the corresponding philosophical ideology that informed
Shakespeare s manifold intentions.

Analysis Of The Art Of War By Sun Tzu
Book Analysis: The Art of War by Sun Tzu Ancient Chinese scholar Sun Tzu wrote The Art of War
more than 2000 years earlier, probably for kings, generals and solders of his time. However, this book
is still relevant in this high tech modern world. It has still a powerful energy to work as a useful
guidance for modern times. The Art of War is actually about struggles and confrontation we all go
through in our daily lives. We as all face same kinds of dilemmas in our hearts and minds when it
comes to compete with real life challenges. Though the book was compiled as a military advice in
ancient times, it has potential to function as practical guide in all facets of life even today. This book is
guide for victory in life, but it is also about the art of war. At the same time, it is all about self
awareness. It says know the enemy and know yourself; in in hundred battles you will never be in peril
. This is how Sun Tzu emphasises the importance of knowing about yourself. To be able to be a
winner in the challenges of life it is important to know your strengths and weakness. If you are know
yourself very well you should not worry about anything. Sun Tzu has made it very clear that half
battle is won when you have a better understanding of yourself. However, if you neither know about
yourself nor about your enemy, it means you are at a very high risk every time you enter a
competition. Therefore, to be successful in life, one must be aware about both himself and the

Petitto And Marentette 1991
Petitto Marentette (1991) provides key evidence to suggest that babbling is in fact a brain based
language capacity which enhances with maturity and not a speech based phenomenon based on
physical vocal maturation [1]. To reach this conclusion Petitto Marentette (1991) conducted an
experiment in which they analysed the vocal babbling of infants as well as the manual babbling of
deaf infants [1]. The relevance of this decision is based on the fact, that sign language, like all other
languages, is developed through language acquisition, thus if there is no correlation between manual
babbling and vocal babbling, this would strength the stance that babbling is the product of physical
maturation. The study, however, did conclude that manual

Aeneas’ Haunting in Virgil s Aeneid Aeneas
In epic stories the hero is traditionally confronted by supernatural entities that either strive to
encourage or hinder him. In Virgil s Aeneid Aeneas deals with the such supernatural interferences all
of which focus on the goal of Aeneas creating Rome and its people. Throughout the books Aeneas is a
truly haunted individual faced with ghost, gods and even fate itself all of which attempt to prompt and
govern his choices. Aeneas is subjected to the power of these forces as they lead him throughout a
journey to create his fated city, propelling him to victory. Immediately readers are introduced to
Aeneas supernatural plight by Virgil, who states that Juno hates Aeneas. Virgil tells of the story of

She is the opposing force to Juno that attempts to assist Aeneas throughout his journey. Venus saves
Aeneas life throughout the books, first from a losing battle in Troy and give him the weapons
necessary to battle Turnus and create Rome; Here are the gifts I promised, forged to perfection...you
need not hesitate to challenge Laurentines or savage Turnus (VIII. 828 831). She continuously
encourages him and does what she must so he may reach his destiny. Each goddess and a few minor
gods as well play a role throughout the journey of Aeneas and without them the story would have
ended quickly in Troy. With their knowledge of Aeneas fate he became a point of avid interest to
them. Coinciding with the godly interventions of Aeneas journey comes about a spiritual one as well.
With a book filled with war and death it is no surprise that Aeneas is also haunted by ghosts as well.
Foremost is the ghost of Hector who warns Aeneas of the impending fall of Troy and warns him to
escape with his family, gods and some people. It is this warning that rouses Aeneas to find his family
and flee (with some help from Venus). Reaching safety he belatedly realizes his wife is missing, only
to have her ghost appear and tell him it is too late to save her but his journey will bring him to a new
wife in Italy. After much struggle Aeneas reaches Italy and decides to visit his father in the
Underworld, the place of the dead. Aeneas sees

Redskin s NFL Name Analysis
As of june of 2014 a poll ran by buzzfeed.com showed that about 67% of native americans find the

Reid believes that the NFL, who spent so much time over the possibility that the Patriots potentially
could ve probably deflated some footballs (a completely different topic for another day), didn t spend
enough time focusing on the Washington NFL team name. As Reid said, I find it stunning that the
National Football League is more concerned about how much air is in a football than with a racist
franchise name that denigrates Native Americans across the country. The Redskins name is a racist
name (Garcia). In this certain circumstance, many people agree with Reid that the NFL prioritized

The Main Problem with Management
During my four years at USC, my course focus has mainly been on management. Initially, I began as a
Sport and Entertainment Management major, and then transferred into the Bachelor of Arts in
Interdisciplinary Arts major. The BAIS has allowed me the flexibility to expand my interest in
management in general. My two areas of focus in the BAIS are Sport and Entertainment Management
and Business Management. Accordingly, my paper will focus on a problem in management.
My work experience and my course experiences have provided me the basis for selecting a problem in
management. Additionally, I spoke with my manager in the food industry, as well as a department
manager in a local retail store. My observation and those of the two managers all focus on the need for
changing the current work ethic, especially as it applies to the younger generation. Since I have known
this assignment was coming up, I have been thinking for some time which problem I would select as
one to take on for this assignment. It was somewhat ironical that the IDST 497 professor, Dr. Truell,
recently posted two related readings on Blackboard that will be the source of a later course
assignment. Content from those articles will be helpful in explaining how this generation is different.
These differences are reflected in many of the concerns managers today have identified.
In 1904, Max Weber coined the term work ethic in a religious sense and actually referred to the term
as the Protestant work ethic (Fine

It was a short drive over to the parking lot outside of building 7518. The two story khaki colored
building resembled the barracks at the Security Police School at Lackland. The building itself
provided a sense of familiarity, which helped ease some of my anxiety and uncertainty. Sgt. Billingsly

Kingsley, the manager in charge of maintaining order in the barracks. He was also charged with

right wall and a pool table in the middle of the room. Aside from Billingsly, who was talking to

Huntington, West Virginia. Airman Simpson was about twenty and was shorter than me with a little
more bulk. Despite the common misconception that the men of West Virginia were isolated rough and
rugged mountain boys, Simpson was charismatic and outgoing. Billingsly also introduced me to the
snack bar attendant and told her it is my first day on the island. She greeted me with a warm smile and
welcomed me to the PI. Billingsly and Simpson work together on day flight so Billingsly asked
Simpson if he wanted to go on my base tour followed by a downtown excursion. Simpson perked up
as soon as he heard downtown and almost knocked us down heading for the door. As we left the
barracks parking lot, I was overwhelmed by the sheer size and lack of perimeter fence to keep
unauthorized personnel from entering the base. That explained the considerable need for the 3rd
Security Police Group. Billingsly explained that the perimeter of the base totaled approximately 27
miles, but only about 10 miles of the perimeter fence line was still intact. Over the years, it collapsed

Max Weber, one of the founding fathers of Sociology, is described as our greatest resource as a

important contributor to the discipline. As Bendix notes, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of

A Blended Future Of Technology
Geoffrey Tibbs

EN 140 07

A Blended Future Technology in education is not a new concept, especially at the college level.
Universities are encouraged to offer online courses, or as freelance journalist Chrissie Long and many
other experts call them, MOOCs (massive online open courses), to reach out to more students and
provide them with a more convenient style of learning (455). While MOOCs certainly have their
strengths, how far should universities go? What is the future of online education? Should colleges of
the future only offer online courses, or should face to face classes still be the primary form of
education? Blended courses, though not without faults of their own, can combine the best elements of
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the lectures are outside of class, there is more time for discussion and clarification. The
lectures in strictly face to face courses are presented in class, so there is not usually enough time for in
depth discussions. MOOCs are entirely online, so there is no meeting for discussion. Blended courses
do meet and have time for discussions, but there are some drawbacks as well. For example, if a
student has a question that he or she cannot find the answer to, the student will have to wait until the
next in class meeting or email the professor to get the answer. In face to face classes, the student could
ask the professor immediately, but a student in a blended course would still be able to eventually ask
the professor in person, which is an advantage over a MOOC. Even though face to face classes have
more access to professors, and MOOCs do not require the student to come to campus, blended courses
remain beneficial to students because they provide more time for discussions and clarification than
other types of classes. Aside from more in class discussion, blended courses also allow students to set
their own paces. In an article for U.S. News World Report, author Jordan Friedman mentioned a 2011
Kaplan Inc. research review that said blended learning programs can potentially offer more
personalized, student focused and flexible forms

The Company Of Wolves Characters
In Angela Carter s short story The Company of Wolves , the protagonist, a young girl who just started
her period, and still a virgin was unlike other children. Other children of the area who were forced to
grow quickly, this child has been kept young because she is her family s beautiful and youngest child.
Because she is the youngest and most beautiful child, her family spoiled her and sheltered her from
life s harsh realities. By doing this they have cultured her, made her into the gender ideal of a
sheltered, sweet, and trusting girl. The girl s virtuousness both endangers her and saves her; she is
trusting enough to believe in the hunter s good intentions, but sympathetic enough to understand his
torment and be with him.

When the girl strips naked and approaches the wolf, it at first seems that she is sacrificing herself to
him. Then, when the wolf says he will eat her, she laughs because she (knows) that she (is) nobody s
meat, (Carter, 118). By acting upon her sexual desires, the girl doesn t offer herself as meat or food but
as flesh and a human being. When someone is having sex the person s body is not seen as being his or
her own but it belongs to the other person who has the honor of this action. The girl claims her sexual
desire and her flesh as her own, she can give her immaculate flesh willfully to the werewolf and also
take him. Carter even said that the girl eats the werewolf. She will lay his fearful head on her lap and
she will pick out the lice from his pelt and perhaps she will put the lice into her mouth and eat them,
(Carter, 118).
When the girl burns her cape, she rejects her virginity and her naïvetés in favor of her sexual insight.
She also rejects her townsperson identity of uncompromising advantage to creatures. The townspeople
burn werewolves clothes in order to condemn them to wolfishness, and so the girl burns her own
clothes in order to become one with the werewolf and his kind.
The girl undresses in order to relate the creature in herself, her sexual desire, and to the actual creature
to whom she engaged. She takes the lead to be reborn as self owning sexual being. Carter goes far as
to compare a werewolf s

Implementation of the electronic health records (EHRs) has been a growing trend in the healthcare
field from fear of the unknown to the acceptance of the reality of the EHRs and the actually utilizing

and the end user is important for the evaluation of the product.
Communication
For change to talk place communication has to be well explicit to it uses for easy understanding. There
were some setbacks in the communication of the change with the EHRs; most nurses did not really
understand why they were moving to the EHR, there was no clear vision and value statement
(Fickenscher Bakerman, 2011). The computer terminologies were a challenge to understand and apply
during the practice session making it difficult for some nurse to follow alone. Some of the information
seems to be different with the fact that there were sessions held in different shift and repetition of the
same information in another way (Fickenscher Bakerman, 2011).
Because of these difficulties with communication, lowering the expectation bar for nurse by increasing
more time for them to understand and practice the skills was implemented Cresswell Sheikh, (2009).
Giving nurse this extra time, took off anxiety and the urges not to rush if a skill needs to be practiced

Meningitis Essay
In nineteenth century Geneva, a family came down with a strange disease one that had never
previously been diagnosed. In a short time, many people in their town were infected and thirty three
people were left dead. This strange disease was later determined to be meningitis. In 1806, the United
States saw its first outbreak of meningitis in Massachusetts. It was not until 1887, however, that
Professor Anton Weichselbaum was able to determine a cause of meningitis: a bacterium called
Neisseria meningitides. Penicillin was first used to combat meningitis in 1944, and in 1978, a vaccine
became available. The usage of vaccines was detrimental in the battle to gain control over the spread

Nesseria meningitides can be part of the normal flora of the upper part of the respiratory tract (19). It
is a pathenogenic, gram negative aerobe, which resides primarily in mucous membranes. The shape of

binary fission (12).
Viral meningitis is more common, but not nearly as severe (8). It is hardly ever fatal and mostly
caused by enteroviruses. Other viruses can induce a person to contract viral meningitis. These include:
mumps, herpes, measles, and varicella zoster. Even an infection from a mosquito bite could potentially
turn into a case of viral meningitis (4)! Fungal meningitis, which can also be deadly, is mostly caused
by Cryptococcus and Candida. The people affected with fungal meningitis are mostly those who have
an inadequate immune system (3). A person may not know he or she has meningitis right away. Many
symptoms are analogous to the flu. These symptoms include a stiff neck, headache, fever, chills,
nausea, light sensitivity, and possible changes in mental state (8). Even after a person recovers from
meningitis, they can still suffer from long term effects such as brain damage, kidney damage, loss of
hearing, amputations, and scarring (6). To accurately diagnose meningitis, a lumbar puncture, or spinal

  • 2. Alabama Child Support Case Study The non custodial parent (NCP), Mr. Pugh s testimony revealed that the bank account is in his name, but the money in the account belongs to his wife. The dispute is regarding the money that was frozen in the account. The money was from his wife s 401k retirement account. The NCP verified that the account is a joint account, the money belongs to his wife, and he would not touch her money. Mobile County DHR representative s testimony revealed that on June 26, 2003, Georgia Child Support sent a request to Alabama Child Support to establish an order of support against the NCP. Alabama courts established support for the child on August 23, 2004; setting child support at a rate of $390.00 a month effective September 1, 2004. On December 8, 2008, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DHR s Response: Based on the NCP s allegation of a mistake of fact the money taken out of account ending in XXX528 is a joint account. The Child Support Enforcement Division reviewed the facts and determined that $6,353.26 will be refunded to joint account owner, Charlene Pugh. If the bank has already submitted the funds, a check will be mailed to Mrs. Pugh. Therefore, the lien/levy will remain in effect. DHR s Recommendations: DHR s policy references Code of Alabama 1975, 30 3 198 and 30 3 197 (a) (6), which authorizes the IV D agency to file a Notice of Lien against real and personal property of any NCP who resides or owns property in the State and owes past due support and also allows the Agency to issue a Notice of Levy to the financial institution to freeze assets to satisfy child support arrearage. As you may well know Fred Hollows was an able advocate for Indigenous health and focused much of his life on ending curable blindness among numerous Indigenous communities. Paragraph 1 Who is Fred Hollows and what were his main achievements. Fred Hollows was born in New Zealand in 1929. He was not only a terrific ophthalmologist but also a skilled surgeon and social justice activist, as he believed everyone was equal due to his respectful and non judgemental family upbringing. At the age of 22, he started Medical school at the University of Otago and then in 1965 to continue his ophthalmologic work. • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Animal Experimentation Animal experimentation has been a controversial subject for decades. Millions of animals have been killed in United States laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity driven experiments, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. Animal experimentation has proven to be an imprecise way of research and practices in animal cruelty. There are alternatives to animal testing that have been proven more accurate, but because of tradition these alternatives are overlooked by many. The three R s of animal testing, reduction, refinement, and replacement, should be implemented. The testing of animals does not have enough beneficial results to deem it necessary. Many drugs proven safe for animals have been proven harmful to humans in human trials. In order to make experimentation more accurate, scientists should rely on human cells and carefully conducted clinical trials with humans (as cited in Thomas, 2009, p. 95). Stop Animal Experimentation Animal experimentation has become a very controversial subject since the development of more advanced technology. Estimates of the number of animals used each year for experiments in United States laboratories range from seventeen to seventy million (as cited in Animal Friends Croatia , 2009, p. 15). Animal experimentation, which is also known as animal testing, is experiments that use non human animals that seek to control the variables that affect the behavior or biological system under study. Although animal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Femininity, Masculinity, And Masculinity Womanhood is often associated with femininity while manhood with masculinity. Masculinity is the idea that men are tough both physically and mentally. Femininity, a term associated with being women is used to describe a women s comportment and attitude. A gentle individual male or female, who wears dresses, skirts, high heels, makeup, and has long hair would be identified as feminine. Unfortunately, society judges and criticizes a women who do not depict feminine characteristics. Such women are regarded as either homosexual or queer. I chose two pictures of Grace Jones to compare in this essay since she happens to be a gender bender and victim of alike persecutions. Additionally, Grace Jones is a supermodel and singer from Jamaica, who s renowned for cross dressing and artistic fashion styles (Williams). The picture titled, Grace Jones/Nightclubbing, was derived from the National Portrait Gallery, while the other from, Essense website, Jones demonstrates that women can be feminine or soft in one picture and masculine or hard in the other picture through her appearance. Despite being women, Jones s clothes appear manly in one picture and womanly in the other. Jones is wearing an Armani pitch black jacket suit accompanied by a cigarette in her mouth in the first picture. Seeing how half of her head is shaved clean, the top part cut short and flat, it would be perceived as deviance, for men are expected to look in this manner. She stands upright, strong, which are ... • 7. Affluenza Arguments Affluenza Anyone who kills innocent people should not be able to avoid jail just because their family is rich. Ethan Couch a teenager killed 4 innocent people and injuring 2 of his passengers while driving drunk. For his actions he was supposed to go to jail but instead got probation for being diagnosed with affluenza. Which is when someone does not understand or control what they do simply because they come from a rich family. Affluenza is not an acceptable reason for someone to avoid jail time because he is old enough to know what was right or wrong and he is no different from any other kids. Some people might argue that affluenza is a good enough reason to avoid jail. These people believe this because they say that he is yet still undeveloped and his parents didn t teach him anything. For instance, in the article affluenza isn t as crazy as it sounds, by Danny Cevallos argues that As children our functions such as risk assessment and judgement are still undeveloped. (Cervallos, p28)It is very true that we are still young and we do not yet understand everything. • 8. A Literary Analysis Of Alice Walker sThe Color Purple ) Pretty Colors (A Literary Analysis on Alice Walker s, The Color Purple) Alice Walker was a writer who influenced many people in her time, and continues to influence a copious amount of people still today considering she is still living! Her writing explores multidimensional kinships among women and embraces the redemptive power of social and political revolution. (Whitted) Her works range from short poems to long novels that have been read by thousands. In each, she presents several messages. In the novel, The Color Purple, Walker is able to portray three main messages. The first message in Purple talks about the importance of family. As an adult, Celie s family was separated from her, and she was the receiver of the aggressive touch of a man throughout her entire married life. Celie didn t have a family for quite some time in the literal sense, however she found family with those around her. Those that she became friends with were the ones that became her home. They took care of her and made sure that she wouldn t make decisions that she would regret for the rest of her life. When Celie was in a bad situation, Shug was able to get her out of it, and lead Celie to a place where she could be happy. In the end, Celie s family is all reunited with her and everything turns out for the best! Believe in good things to come. (Holland) The main message, however, is that family may not be the people that are related to you through blood or marriage, but family just might be in the people that take care of you no matter what. The second message in Walker s story is about courage. While living in an abusive relationship, Celie depended on her courage to carry her through the trial that was living with her husband. Nothing the Celie did was ever enough for her husband, and he let her know that by hurting her in many different ways. While many did not perceive Celie as being courageous, others around her found her courage as inspiring. People sought to become like her. Celie is given the chance to truly show her courage, though, when her friend Shug gives her a way out, taking her to a new state. She is able to leave her abusive husband behind, and start a new life. She becomes successful and shows those around her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Working with four different synthetic blood samples, they will use synthetic antisera to the A, B, and Rh antigens on red blood cells. Students are able to identify the blood type of each blood sample and how the blood type is determined. Introduction The blood is a very important fluid of our body that has many different ways that keep us healthy. It transports important nutrients and oxygen to our cells and acts in the process of removing wastes and carbon dioxide from the body.( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) Also, this specialized fluid helps in defending the body by forming blood clots as a result of a wounded blood vessel and carrying various cells that are crucial to our health. An average human body s weight is made of seven to eight percent blood.( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood is made of different components that perform different actions. It is made of 55 percent plasma and 45 percent cells. ( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood is liquidy due to the presence of plasma. It is composed of water, proteins, fats, and salts. • 11. Moral Dilemmas in Celia, A Slave by Melton McLaurin Melton McLaurin s book Celia, A Slave is the account of the trial, conviction, and execution of a female slave for the murder of her master Robert Newsom in 1855. The author uses evidence compiled through studying documents from Callaway County, Missouri and the surrounding area during the middle of the Nineteenth Century. Although much of what can be determine about this event is merely speculation, McLaurin proposes arguments for the different motives that contribute to the way in which many of the events unfold. Now throughout the book the main characters , being Celia, her lawyer Jameson, and the judge William Hall, are all faced with moral decisions that affect the lives of two different people. Even though Jameson appeared to be a good lawyer according to those who knew him: as a lawyer [Jameson] was not profound (McLaurin 85), so to aid Jameson in labor and research (McLaurin 85) Hall appointed two lawyers that were subordinate to Jameson. Penicillin G. is also known as Benzylpenicillin. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Usually Penicillin G is obtained from microbial sources such as Escherichia coli (Cole, 1969). It works on most Gram positive bacteria, and some Gram negative bacteria. Gentamicin Gentamicin is also an antibiotic, like Penicillin, and is used to treat a number of bacterial infections. Unlike Penicillin, Gentamicin is more effective on Gram negative bacteria, and only works on a limited number of Gram positive bacteria. • 17. The Loudest Duck By Laura A. Liswood Throughout the book The Loudest Duck by Laura A. Liswood, we learn about what it means to be truly diverse and how to obtain this diversity. The book gives many examples of how and why it is important for companies to be diverse. Through this paper I will be outlining the main points the other made and share some of the lessons I feel are important. The first few chapters outline the main problems with diversity that business deal with. While the rest of the book goes deeper in to the issues and ways to overcome or avoid the problems to create a truly diverse institute. The author gives background into the Noah s Ark theory as well as the grandma effect. She also talks about the dynamics of dominate and non dominate groups in the work place as she relates them to the Elephant and Mouse theory. The first theory the book looks at is the Noah s Ark theory. The author explains that organizations often try to become diverse using the Noah s ark model which simply means they try to have one or more employees that meets each of the minorities. That is, they hire men women and people of color rather than just hiring the people who are most like them. This raises more problems than it solves because people are being hired for who they are rather than the skills that they possess. In this type of situation people who are more qualified for a job may be pushed aside in order to hire someone who meets the company s diversity needs. Instead of following this Noah s Ark model ... • 18. What Are The Benefits Of Lowering The Drinking Age The legal drinking age has many high school and college students shaking their heads. Despite the illegality of underage drinking, many youth still participate in the consumption of alcohol before their 21st birthday. Underage drinking is not intrinsically wrong, rather it is criminalized and misperceived because of current laws. Because the current law regarding underage alcohol consumption is not working, maintaining that law is illogical and stupid. A simple solution to this problem exists; the drinking age should be lowered to 18. Many benefits will occur if the drinking age is lowered to the age a person is legally recognized as an adult, including an economic boost, a decrease in dangerous drinking, and a decrease in illegal activity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When people irresponsibly over consume alcohol, their judgement becomes impaired and they are subject to be at a higher risk of injury. For example, binge drinking is the 5th biggest reasons teens have to visit the hospital (3 4 Blau). With a lower drinking age, young adults would not have to keep their alcohol consumption clandestine. This means that there would be more available supervision and access to medical help should a circumstance warrant the need for it. A lower drinking age would also make the topic of drinking less taboo which would allow people to become more informed about the dangers of alcohol and help them learn to drink responsibly. Another very important reason to decriminalize drinking under the age of 21 is to ensure that anyone in need of medical help gets it, regardless of how inebriated they or their friends are. Often, teens die from drinking because the people they are with do not call for help if an unfortunate situation occurs. Generally, these people attempt to wait out a situation, much to the misfortune of whoever is in need of help, because they fear the possible legal repercussions of having drank. • 19. Conscience In The Canterbury Tales The Prioress s portrait is the first portrait of the General Prologue in which Chaucer displays satire. Her portrait shows that although she is a prioress, she is not well suited for life in the church and that she needs to work on a major part of her job: her conscience. Chaucer mentions her conscience twice within her portrait, but the word is never used in context of her clerical responsibilities, which Chaucer never mentions even though they should be one of her main priorities. The word is instead used to praise her on her courtly appearance. Chaucer s use of the word conscience as praise in The Prioress Portrait allows him to expose her shortcoming as a prioress without explicitly criticizing her. According to the Medieval English Dictionary, the word conscience in the Medieval period had a few different definitions. There are two types of ways matter can be altered; physically and chemically. Physical changes do not change the composition of the matter while chemical changes occur when one or more substances turn into a completely new substance. Physical changes can be seen through an altering of the substances physical property. A substances physical property is observed and measured without changing the composition of the subject. An example of a chemical change that one could come into contact with daily is rust. Air and iron are the reactants in this situation while rust is the product. The chemical equation for this reaction would look roughly like this, O+FE= OFE or rust. This is clearly a chemical change because you cannot reverse it meaning you cannot take rust and pull out the iron to leave air or vise versa. All chemical changes are finite. One other example of a chemical change is the burning of any substance. For example if one were to burn a sheet of paper it would create ash. This chemical change is finite because you cannot change ash back into paper. Another term to remember when considering changes chemical and physical is the law of conservation of mass. This law simply means that matter can neither be created nor destroyed. Two other terms that are important when describing the properties of substances undergoing changes are extensive and intensive properties. An intensive property is a physical property of a substance that does not depend upon its size such as viscosity. Extensive properties however do depend on a substance s size such as mass and volume. • 21. Reinsurance Essay Describe the role of the reinsurance industry. Give examples from recent events of the importance of the sector. Jack Nolan (09006300) 1. Introduction: What is reinsurance? Why do insurance companies go through the process of insuring policies before transferring them to other entities? Reinsurance is a method which involves insurers insuring their own respective risks with reinsurance firms. Firstly, an important function of reinsurance is to ensure that the insurance operations of company s doesn t eventually lead to detrimental financial losses. Catastrophes, unexpected liabilities, and a series of large losses that might be too great for an individual insurer to absorb can be handled through reinsurance (McIsaac and Babbel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also from time to time insurance companies are offered the opportunity to insure risks that are very large or complex or simply unusual. In these situations facultative reinsurance is the best alternative (Wehrhahn 2009).Secondly, treaty reinsurance was devised to solve some of the adverse features of the facultative method. The treaty method is highly popular mainly because it is not as cumbersome or as time consuming as the facultative method (Irukwu 1982). Treaty reinsurance involves the negotiations between the insurance company and reinsurer before creating a reinsurance contract. Under a treaty reinsurance arrangement all risks that are defined to be object of the agreement are ceded automatically to the reinsurer, and the reinsurer agrees to accept all those risks (Wehrhahn 2009). Reinsurers creating treaties, would not individually analyse each risk related to the treaty. Instead they would review the insurance company in question and base their decision related to the expertise of the company, its risk attitude, its track record, the expected amount of business to be reinsured and other technical aspects (Wehrhahn 2009). Reinsurance plays an important role in helping to stabilise the profitability of insurance companies. • 22. The Tempest By William Shakespeare Brown s insistence that The Tempest is a play of steeped in ambivalence and contradictions is not entirely unfounded, however. Prospero himself is an extremely powerful magus whose power borders on the transcendent and divine; he is also a man obsessed with perfecting his art that, at times, can be base and wicked. He demonstrates compassion and generosity, yet his apathetic and sometimes contemptuous treatment of other characters raises questions about his moral sensibilities. Within the drama of the play, these paradoxes create a dynamic that highlights the contrast between Prospero and those who (seek to) foil him Stephano, Trinculo, and Caliban characters that Brown demarcates as masterless or othered (273). While he correctly identifies such instances of doubling, Brown conflates these binaries as markers of colonial discourse, the colonizer and the colonized, and entirely elides the binary of the noble and the natural. This dichotomy, which is staunchly embedded in the Renaissance conception of natural order the great chain of being is eminent throughout the play and integral to its thematic purpose of restoration and redemption. Brown s failure to address the great chain of being in any capacity throughout his argument is indicative of his limited understanding of the historical context in which The Tempest was written and the corresponding philosophical ideology that informed Shakespeare s manifold intentions. However, this book is still relevant in this high tech modern world. It has still a powerful energy to work as a useful guidance for modern times. The Art of War is actually about struggles and confrontation we all go through in our daily lives. We as all face same kinds of dilemmas in our hearts and minds when it comes to compete with real life challenges. Though the book was compiled as a military advice in ancient times, it has potential to function as practical guide in all facets of life even today. This book is guide for victory in life, but it is also about the art of war. At the same time, it is all about self awareness. It says know the enemy and know yourself; in in hundred battles you will never be in peril . This is how Sun Tzu emphasises the importance of knowing about yourself. To be able to be a winner in the challenges of life it is important to know your strengths and weakness. If you are know yourself very well you should not worry about anything. Sun Tzu has made it very clear that half battle is won when you have a better understanding of yourself. Petitto And Marentette 1991 Petitto Marentette (1991) provides key evidence to suggest that babbling is in fact a brain based language capacity which enhances with maturity and not a speech based phenomenon based on physical vocal maturation [1]. To reach this conclusion Petitto Marentette (1991) conducted an experiment in which they analysed the vocal babbling of infants as well as the manual babbling of deaf infants [1]. The relevance of this decision is based on the fact, that sign language, like all other languages, is developed through language acquisition, thus if there is no correlation between manual babbling and vocal babbling, this would strength the stance that babbling is the product of physical maturation. The struggle to go live with the EHR was a challenge because change is always a difficult implementation. According to Fickenscher Bakerman, (2011) Change is a process that is individualized base on one s ability to adopt and the interest on the change. Some people may take longer to understand a process while others will grab the skill within a short time. However, some few setbacks slow down the adoption of the EHRs when it was first implemented, Culture, communication and training and time. Despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My organization uses Cerner for the computer program and because of this culture change, there was a close relation with Cerner personnel who were present during go live to help with the smooth transition. According to Cresswell Sheikh, (2009) having a collaborative relationship with the designer and the end user is important for the evaluation of the product. Communication For change to talk place communication has to be well explicit to it uses for easy understanding. There were some setbacks in the communication of the change with the EHRs; most nurses did not really understand why they were moving to the EHR, there was no clear vision and value statement (Fickenscher Bakerman, 2011). The computer terminologies were a challenge to understand and apply during the practice session making it difficult for some nurse to follow alone. Some of the information seems to be different with the fact that there were sessions held in different shift and repetition of the same information in another way (Fickenscher Bakerman, 2011). • 37. Meningitis Essay In nineteenth century Geneva, a family came down with a strange disease one that had never previously been diagnosed. In a short time, many people in their town were infected and thirty three people were left dead. This strange disease was later determined to be meningitis. In 1806, the United States saw its first outbreak of meningitis in Massachusetts. It was not until 1887, however, that Professor Anton Weichselbaum was able to determine a cause of meningitis: a bacterium called Neisseria meningitides. Penicillin was first used to combat meningitis in 1944, and in 1978, a vaccine became available. The usage of vaccines was detrimental in the battle to gain control over the spread of meningitis (7). Even with these vaccines, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nesseria meningitides can be part of the normal flora of the upper part of the respiratory tract (19). It is a pathenogenic, gram negative aerobe, which resides primarily in mucous membranes. The shape of the bacterium is diplococci (11). Nesseria meningitides is heterotrophic and reproduces by way of binary fission (12). Viral meningitis is more common, but not nearly as severe (8). It is hardly ever fatal and mostly caused by enteroviruses. Other viruses can induce a person to contract viral meningitis. These include: mumps, herpes, measles, and varicella zoster. Even an infection from a mosquito bite could potentially turn into a case of viral meningitis (4)! Fungal meningitis, which can also be deadly, is mostly caused by Cryptococcus and Candida. The people affected with fungal meningitis are mostly those who have an inadequate immune system (3). A person may not know he or she has meningitis right away. Many symptoms are analogous to the flu. These symptoms include a stiff neck, headache, fever, chills, nausea, light sensitivity, and possible changes in mental state (8). Even after a person recovers from meningitis, they can still suffer from long term effects such as brain damage, kidney damage, loss of hearing, amputations, and scarring (6). To accurately diagnose meningitis, a lumbar puncture, or spinal tap, is performed and tests are run on the cerebrospinal fluid ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
