Lorichard Cory Essay
In Edwin Arlington Robinson s poem ¨Richard Cory¨, the character Richard Cory shows the reader
that suicide is an escape from a terrible life. This poem contains a lot of surprises and even somewhat
confusing parts. The reader is left asking themselves why the character in this poems, writing had to
end it all. Was it really all that bad to where they just ended everything? Personification is shown
when the river has a ¨face¨ and ¨asked¨ for a kiss, as well in the whole piece when the act of suicide
writes a note. In the poem, a shift happens and it directs the readers into a different direction. The
main shift occurs between the title and the body. The title is straightforward, except for the
personification of suicide. It is serious and sad. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For one, he selected the name ¨Richard Cory¨ according to the royal meaning behind the name. When
the poem reads, he was always human when he talked, I did not quite understand. Soon afterward, I
realized the author meant Richard Cory was not a conceited or arrogant man; he was a friendly man. I
could imagine him being the brightest thing on the street when I comprehended he glittered when he
walked. I realized that Richard Cory was more than just a rich man. Here we have a man s life story
distilled into sixteen lines. A dramatist would have been under the necessity of justifying the suicide
by some train of events in which Richard Cory s character would have inevitably betrayed him. A
novelist would have dissected the psychological effects of these events upon Richard Cory. The poet,
with a more profound grasp of life than either, shows us only what life itself would show us; we know
Richard Cory only through the effect of his personality upon those who were familiar with him, and
we take both the character and the motive for granted as equally inevitable. Therein lies the ironic
touch, which is intensified by the simplicity of the poetic form in which this tragedy is given

Alternative Dispute Resolution, Or Adr
Alternative Dispute Resolution, or ADR is the phrase used to describe the different methods of ways
to resolve legal disputes outside of the court system. There are many advantages and disadvantages to
it, and they come in many different forms in England and Wales. These include administrative
tribunals, arbitration, mediation, adjudication, conciliation, negotiation, expert determination and the
ombudsmen services.
Administrative Tribunals come in many different forms and can cover many areas including
employment tribunals, lands tribunals and rent tribunals. The most common one being employment
tribunals. The distinction between Tribunals and the Courts have sometimes be blurred because it has
long been held that tribunals are just an administrative extension to the Court system and therefore
some argue that Tribunals are not a separate entity, There is some debate as to whether tribunals are
merely part of the machinery of administration of particular projects or whether their function is the
distinct one of adjudication, 1 However the main difference between tribunals and the courts is that
tribunals are much more specialised in nature, coming in many forms, some of which are stated above.
Administrative tribunals are also not staffed by judges, and are staffed be specialists in the particular
field in which the administrative tribunal is being held. For example, an employment tribunal would
be chaired by a panel of people who specialise in employment law.

Pros And Cons Of Roglove
Advances in human augmentation are providing prosthetics for injured veterans as well as tools for
workers so they can handle more difficult jobs. Exoskeletons are helping injured veterans learn to
walk by providing just enough support to make movement possible. i They also help strengthen
muscles dramatically all while not overwhelming the patient. Researchers at MIT just invented the
roboglove. It lets users do things like hold an object with a couple of fingers while using the others to
perform another job such as adding salt to a cup of liquid or opening the top of a jar. ii The roboglove

metabolic pathway becomes impaired in the fat cells of these individuals. v As always the problem
will continue to be money. The U.S. government needs to fund more research dedicated to human
prosthetics. The possibilities are endless and this is where the future is taking our society. Investing in
technology that serves to benefit people is definitely something that needs to be done. NASA is at an
all time low for funding right now and that is very disappointing. With increased production for
machinery such as the roboglove comes increased environment concerns. The materials required to
make these new innovations are very expensive and complicated to produce. That being said pollution
will always play a role in the production of the roboglove. In terms of social issues there will always
be a moderately sized group of individuals who do not agree with some human prosthetics. Most of
the negativity comes from how the materials are actually obtained. The majority of the time, animals
have to be tested before humans receive the prosthetics. This definitely poses a problem for animal

Appeasement Policy Essay
Today, the Appeasement policy that Britain and France in the period of German aggression, was one
of the main factors historians would consider to have caused the Second World War. Had the British or
any of the Allied powers, intervened in Nazi expansionism, the war could have been prevented as
early as 1936, when Germany violated the Treaty of Versailles with the occupation of the Rhineland.
The Appeasement is seen as the act of cowardice and of poor judgement of the world powers. Britain,
in particular, is in the spotlight. It was still considered the major power as well as the leader the rest of
the world looked upon to champion democracy and to uphold its position as the winner of the first
world war. There are arguments that with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To the British government, risking war will only bring in more costs and conflicts they did not need.
This also means that perhaps the lack of intervention to the British was not seen as an act of
cowardice, but simply an act for convenience the idea that it is too much trouble to go to war. Besides
the fact that Britain already had a lot on its plate, perhaps the primary reason why Britain did not get
into conflict with Germany is because of the public consensus that they the people simply did not want
to go to war. Britain did not stand up to the Nazis, because the British people did not want to stand up
to the Nazis. Throughout Europe, not just in Britain, memories of the first world war was still very
much present in people s minds. To people at the time, they were currently living through its direct
consequences. The British public insisted that everything must be done so that war would not occur.
Indeed, the policy of appeasement is evidence of that, on its own. But this can be seen most strikingly
on September 15, 1938. Britain realized that Germany s attack on Czechoslovakia would lead to war
with France and the Soviet Union, which also implies inevitable British involvement in the conflict. In
which case, Chamberlain met with Hitler at Berchtesgaden where Britain forced the Czechs to give up

Jeannette Rankin
Moral Courage Hero
Jeanette Rankin
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Jeannette Rankin believed, What one decides to do in crisis depends on one s philosophy of life, and
that philosophy cannot be changed by an incident. If one hasn t any philosophy in crises, others make
the decision (Lewis, 2011). This quote introduces us to the life of an amazing woman who dedicated
her life to the rights of women, children, blue collar workers, veterans and most importantly peace.
Many times in this paper, Jeanette s own quotes will serve as the voice of her moral courage. Born in
an era of limited women s rights, Jeannette Rankin challenged conventional thought about the
influence and power of a woman. She was the first woman elected to Congress, ... Show more content

Environment
An important factor in shaping Jeannette was being born in Missoula, Montana. It is important to this
report to understand the community where Jeannette grew up. It was a factor in the formation of her
worldviews. John and Olive settled in a beautiful area of the Missoula valley called Grant Creek. Even
to today, Grant Creek is a lush, tranquil setting that has a quiet sense of Jeannette s world 130 years
ago. Again, Lewis and Clark had visited the Missoula valley only 75 years before Jeannette was born.
It was a vibrant, diverse community. John Rankin was amongst its first settlers and treated the local
Native Americans as he would any other neighbor.
At that time, there was enough for everyone; poverty was a distant concept. Anyone who wanted to
work and thrive could do so. This was where Jeannette formed her perspective of how the world can
be. The relative equality that existed was a given right to all. Even today, Missoula is a liberal
community with a high level of acceptance of diversity and free thought. Jeanette was among the first
generation of non Native Americans born to this valley.
Socially, a significant issue affecting Montana at the time of Jeanette s formative young adult years
was the rise of the labor unions. Butte, a major mining center, had just formed a Miners Union. This
created wide divisions in politics around the state. This would have a great impact on Jeannette s
eventual election to

The Modernization Of The World
The modernization of the world utilizes many products that are produced from man made products
that are considered hazardous materials. These products fill our garages and store rooms in small
quantities. However, these household products pose a minor threat compared to the large amounts of
dangerous chemicals, and products are shipped, stored, or produce on a large scale in our towns. The
failure to properly handle these chemicals and products can and frequently has a disastrous outcome.
This hazardous material (hazmat) disasters have different threats and considerations than other
disasters. Responders need to be aware of these risks and factors and manage the scene accordingly.
A hazardous material disaster can be described as a large scale interruption of daily activities by an
unplanned release spill, fire or explosion involving hazardous materials that cause, or have the
potential to cause widespread injuries or damage to people, property or the environment (Kramer,
2009, p. 194). These disasters are significant events that take a multitude of agencies and experts to
correctly mitigate the incident, minimizing the potential effects of the hazardous material involved.
Hazardous materials are part of our everyday lives. We see them on the freeways, factories,
manufacturing plants, rail cars, and even gas stations. Hazmat incidents may occur for a variety of
reason such as spills, crashes, leaks, or some other ways. In general, most often hazmat incidents can

Designing A Product And Operation Procedures
In terms of future career, the case study equips me with the knowledge necessary to design a product
and operation procedures that brings the best out of the entity by offering consumers non

and those that are lagging behind. Today, technology is a highly essential element of the business
setting. It changes with every wake and consumers would like to know that their favourite entity is
doing enough to stay at pace with current trends and ensuring their convenience. Through value

Other projects where I can manifest my knowledge in as far as adding value is concerned are projects
related to boosting consumer loyalty and building a good market share. Therefore, it is imperative that
I don t look at the case study as something that comes and go, but as something that provides me with
knowledge necessary to handle future projects that I might encounter in the course of my studies.
What I have learnt since the first case study and how I would have improved the learning experience?
From the first case study, I have learnt various elements of the external and internal business
surrounding. In terms of external environment, what stands out is the significance of external
environment scanning in the day to day entity operation. What stands out in as far as the internal
environment is concerned is the role that adding value plays in the modern business. What I would
have done differently during the process is an analysis of more organizations and industries.
Conclusion drawn from a wider scope of information sources is more reliable. Therefore, an
improvement to the earning experience would significantly involve increasing the number of
organizations and industries covered. Other learning would involve direct interaction with experts in
the field of external environment scanning and adding value. This will avail a more practical overview
of the two.

The Theme Of Love In Valentine By Carol Ann Duffy
Being in love is like an amalgamation of different yet powerful emotions exploding every second. It
tends to heighten ones perception, hence, perceiving the world through a larger lens. It can cause a
deep sense of grief at times but it can also make one feel a certain kind of content. The very exclusive
one where the abundance of joy cannot be defined. Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy explores the many
sides to love. The entire poem is an extended metaphor that criticizes the stereotypical idea of love.
Duffy uses an onion, a very unusual object as a symbol to represent a gift for one s admirer. The poet
reveals the positive aspects of the speaker s attitude to love through the use of powerful imagery
(similes, metaphors, repetition), prominent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Duffy utilizes a plethora of different words ranging from positive to negative. She carefully picks
them to warn the reader what your about to read isn t an ordinary love poem. The words careful and
light introduced in the first stanza express delicacy and innocence. Love could explode at anytime yet
remain stable. Duffy inserts direct, straightforward words such as here and take it to catch the reader s
attention. These words are ended with a period giving an austere tone. The use of negative words such
as blind, tears and grief illustrate an image of sorrow and misery creating an element of danger.
Something quite uncommon for a poem entitled valentine . Here Duffy takes the reader to the
unpleasant side of love that is often ignored in most love poems. She is conveying the true reality of
being in love and not just the fantasized version of it. In the second half of the poem, Duffy chooses to
use a more bold set of words such as fierce , possessive , lethal and faithful which contradict the words
kiss , stay and lips which is more subtle and distinctive. The repetition of the word cling towards the
end of the poem emphasizes that once your love is vanished the scent the memory will still live on,
leaving an impression in your life, a permanent tattoo imprinted in your

In the experiment, I set up the 24 plate well, and added each solution one by one while keeping track
of which liquid was in which well. I lit my burner with matches and started assembling my make shift
cotton toothpicks. My Q tips were plastic, so I (with gloved hands) ripped the cotton off the swab and
wrapped it around a toothpick. I then proceeded to dip the cotton in and wait a second or two before
waving it through the flame.
I noticed the color change with the sodium immediately, but with the others it took a bit longer. I
repeated the process with each liquid three times just to be sure. Especially with the Potassium, as it
was very difficult for me to discern the color change. I tried to eliminate any major errors by taking
my time and redoing the experiment a few times, but I did spill a bit of the liquid as a cut the pipets
open. Also, my swabs may have been previously contaminated by the salt on our skin due to frequent
use.

The youngest person that can be place on the National Sex Offender Registry is age 6. Yes, a

treated equal by the public no matter the details of their actual crime. Even though the sex offender
registry is a positive tool in the protection of society, the registry needs to be evaluated because sexual
assault is not the only form of child abuse, non violent offenders are on the registry, and children are
now required to register as offenders.

being able to function without society opinions being forced upon him. I just think that this story is
one of many who are non violent and are lifelong registrants. All crimes that a person is on the registry
for are wrong; I just think that the non violent ones need to be reviewed more thoroughly.
In contrast the deontology approach I think that a lot of people fall into the emotivism approach.
Emotivism is a non cognitive theory of ethics, because it denies, among other things, that moral claims
can appeal to facts. Rather, emotivism, as the name indicates, simply says that moral claims express an
emotional response, or an attitude, we may have toward a given kind of behavior (Mosser, 2010). I
think people hear the word sex offender and they think the person is bad and has hurt a child. Their
emotions and ignorance takes over. The

The Qualities Of An Anglo Saxon Hero
Bravery. Honor. Intelligence. Loyalty. Sense of Duty. Selflessness. Sense of Justice. Strength.
Boasting. These are the common characteristics of an Anglo Saxon hero. Anglo Saxon heroes display
some or all of these attributes, which help distinguish them as a hero. Much like Batman and
Superman or other heros of modern day, Anglo Saxon heroes protect the public against evil foes, or
perhaps Villains. They act courageously and selflessly, without seeking personal gain. Also, they
possess an overwhelming sense of duty to protect those in need. Furthermore, Superheros are loyal to
those they serve, whether it be their lord, or the Lord. With all these characteristics in mind, the
character of Beowulf can clearly be seen as an Anglo Saxon hero. Specifically, his overwhelming
bravery, loyalty, and sense of duty establish him as an Anglo Saxon hero. First of all, Beowulf is the
pure embodiment of bravery. A man who drove five great giants into chains, chased all of that race
from the earth , and also swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean and killing
them one by one , is clearly the bravest man alive, bar none. Furthermore, even before he slayed
Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the Dragon, Beowulf already had a reputation as one of the bravest
men in the word. Then, while battling the three beasts we witness in Beowulf, he further shows his
bravery by killing Grendel with nothing but the strength in his fingers.
After that, he swims down through

The Contribution Of Social Marketing
Definition To lay the basis of critically assessing and outlining the contribution of social marketing to
contemporary marketing thinking, I should first define the possibly obscure meaning of the particular
type of commerce. The initial definition depicts social marketing as the design, implementation and
control of programs calculated to influence the acceptability of social ideas and involving
considerations of product planning, pricing, communication, distribution and marketing research
(Kotler and Zaltman, 1971, p. 5). In Marketing Social Marketing in the Social Change Marketplace
Alan R. Andreasen argues that the given definition does not outline the essence social behavioural
change. In his words, the acceptance of an idea alone does not guarantee the success of influencing
behaviour. The latest interpretation of ISMA solves that problem by stating the outcome explicitly.
(2013). Furthermore, the whole discipline is currently defined as a process that analyses a problem and
gives a solution that answers to the customer s requirements profitably (CIM definition). Companies
use it for raising their income, organisations popularise an activity, etc. It follows that what makes
social marketing unique is its purpose. While any other branch of marketing aims personal benefit, the
ultimate purpose of social marketing is the welfare of the society. Normally the change is either to 1)
accept a new behaviour, 2) reject unwanted potential behaviour, 3) modify

Features Of A Network Topology Essay
2.1 Topology:
Actually here we are discussing about a network topology. A topology is the physical configuration of
a network that determines how the network s computers are connected. The way in which constituent
parts are arranged. The physical topology of a network is the actual geometric layout of workstations.
There are several common physical topologies based on the configuration. They are Star Topology,
Ring Topology, Buss Topology, Mesh Topology, Hybrid Topology and Tree Topology.
2.2 Star Topology:
Star topology is one of the most common network setups. In this arrangement, every node connects to
a central hub, switch or computer; the hub acting as a server and the peripheral devices as clients. A
major disadvantage of this network topology is that if the central hub fails, all of the connected
devices are disconnected. In a star network layout, each workstation is connected by its own cable
directly to the server. Star networks are usually the layout of choice in schools and offices because
they tend to be the most reliable of the topologies. The visual example shows how this setup gets its
name as it is shaped very much like a star.
FIGURE 2.1: Star Topology
Advantages:
Star networks are very reliable. If one connection fails, it does not affect other users
Very few data collisions as each workstation has its own cable to the server
Good security no workstation can interact with another without going through the server first

Abstract
Learning a new language can be difficult for anyone. It is especially difficult for students who are

students experience as they become proficient in their new language.

Students who are more introverted may observe and listen to others until they are more confident of
what to say. Teachers need to understand that the outgoing student may not be as fluent as he or she
seems to be and that the more introverted student may be more proficient in their second language
than they appear to be. Although it will take time, both types of students will learn to speak their
second language proficiently. While these students are learning, they will make mistakes. The article
states that if teachers correct the mistakes directly, it may discourage students from trying out their
new language skills. Modeling the correct language is a much better way of correcting mistakes then
using direct correction. One of the best ways to help students learn a second language is to use a
variety of settings that promote talk and interaction. These not only help students understand new
concepts, but they also help to provide a foundation for learning through reading and writing. Since
literacy is part of language, reading and writing develop alongside speaking and listening. Students
who spend time talking and listening to each other and working on reading and writing activities are
able to develop more proficiency in all language modes. There is are predictable stages of linguistic
and cultural processes that students who are learning a second language go through. The teacher needs
to be able to identify the stage the student is in so that they are

Lewis and William Clark sent a package to Thomas Jefferson filled with seven buffalo robes one that
had a painted scene. Putting a piece from a famous expedition shows that he is aware that he must
preserve a piece of history so that s other can look back at this piece of history. Thomas Jefferson
understands the History and Arts very much, so his Entry Hall reflects this part of him.
Jefferson s love of people and games are evident in the parlor room. The Parlor Room was filled with
many paintings of important figures and friends of Jefferson s. Benjamin Franklin, George
Washington, and Thomas Jefferson Randolph are just some of the many paintings included in the
parlor. He had used this room as a place to invite friends and colleagues to come over and play games
and have fun. Jefferson included many chairs, in this room to have lots of people over and allow them
to sit down whenever they would like too. The parlor room was often a place for family weddings,
dances, and christenings. A wedding is a cheerful ceremony between two families joining together.
Weddings have families that bring cheer and happiness. An anti social person would

Battle Of Resaca Essay
The Civil War was made up of multiple different battles, and was essential to keeping the nation
together. After Lincoln was elected president, the states began to leave the Union (King). In order to
keep the country, the Union needed to fight the states to stop them from leaving over the ideas of
slavery. One of these battles during the Civil War was Resaca. This battle was part of the Atlanta
campaign. A campaign is the way that many battles in the Civil War were categorized. The result of the
Battle of Resaca can be attributed to the leadership of the generals, the geography of the region, and
the conflict that took place. An important Union general in the Battle of Resaca was commander
William T. Sherman, he attended West Point Academy and excelled academically, then graduated in
1840 ( William Tecumseh Sherman. ). Sherman was well trained and was planning to join the military.
He worked in the army from 1840, the year he graduated, until 1853, when he resigned his
commission. He then became the headmaster at the military academy in Louisiana, until they left the

Analysis Of The Storm By Kate Chopin
Kate Chopin s The Storm : Trouble on the Horizon
The Storm by Kate Chopin melds the theme of romantic love with those of rebellion and conformity.
In the story, Chopin gives readers an account of a meteorological disturbance that sweeps through a
town leaving a family to seek shelter until the storms passing. The wife of the story Calixta is at the
family s home while her husband Bobint and child Bibi are seeking refuge at Friedheimer s store. Bibi
is deeply concerned for his mother s safety and begins to question and seek reassurance for Calixta
from his father. Bibi implores by saying, Mama ll be fraid, yes, he suggested with blinking eyes (1).
His father attempts to reassure him by saying She ll shut the house. Maybe she got Sylvie helpin her
this evenin (1). Bibi knew differently but eventually settles and is comforted by his father and his
unwavering confidence for Calixta s safety. While readers are preoccupied with the storm and the
uncertainty it holds, Kate Chopin begins to scribe an unending metaphor that carries the entire plot of
the story. Calixta goes out to gather Bobint s Sunday clothes before the rain starts and to her surprise
Alce Laballire comes riding up. Calixta is nervous with Alce in the house, she stands at the window
gazing out while making small talk with him. Lightning strikes and Calixta grabs her eyes and
stumbles backwards where Alce s arms are waiting. The tension between the two has been building,
when Calixta staggers back from

Iroquois Confederacy
IROQUOIS CONFEDERACY
by Loretta Hall
OVERVIEW
The Iroquois Confederacy, an association of six linguistically related tribes in the northeastern
woodlands, was a sophisticated society of some 5,500 people when the first white explorers
encountered it at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The 1990 Census counted 49,038 Iroquois
living in the United States, making them the country s eighth most populous Native American group.
Although Iroquoian tribes own seven reservations in New York state and one in Wisconsin, the
majority of the people live off the reservations. An additional 5,000 Iroquois reside in Canada, where
there are two Iroquoian reservations. The people are not averse to adopting new technology when it is

During that period, the Iroquois began to acquire European trade goods through raids on other Indian
tribes. They found the metal axes, knives, hoes, and kettles far superior to their implements of stone,
bone, shell, and wood. Woven cloth began to replace the animal skins usually used for clothing
materials.
The recurring raids prompted the French to help their Indian allies attack the Iroquois in 1609,
opening a new technological era for the people of the Confederacy. French body armor was made of
metal, whereas that of the Iroquois was made of slatted wood. Furthermore, the French fought with
firearms, while traditional Iroquois weapons were bows and arrows, stone tomahawks, and wooden
warclubs.
In response to European influence, the Iroquois gradually changed their military tactics to incorporate
stealth, surprise, and ambush. Their motives for fighting also changed. In the past, they had fought for
prestige or revenge, or to obtain goods or captives; now they fought for economic advantage, seeking
control over bountiful beaver hunting grounds or perhaps a stash of beaver skins to trade for European
goods.
Although it provided the Indians with better tools, European incursion into the territory was disastrous
for the indigenous people. In the 1690s alone, the Iroquois lost between 1,600 and 2,000 people in
fighting with other Indian tribes. In addition, European diseases such as smallpox, measles, influenza,
lung infections,

Essay on Indoor Tanning and Cancer
Indoor Tanning and Cancer
Guaranteed brown, beautiful and golden skin in only a few tans! Indoor tanning promises and creates
a beautiful tan in only a few sessions. The result from this tan is dark and clear skin that makes a
person feel and look better. No wonder this craze is so popular. Who wouldn t want to look like they
just came back from the Caribbean with beautiful skin? I mean having tan skin does make a person
look better right? This question is obviously a personal opinion, but this new habit of tanning indoors
has become a growing concern. There are many long term effects to indoor tanning that are harmful to
a person. But most people do not understand this because the short term effects are the most
satisfying. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The basic component in tanning is ultraviolet light. Ultraviolet light, whether produced by a tanning
unit or by the sun, contains two components; UVA and UVB. These are the two types of ultraviolet
radiation that are known to negatively effect the skin. UVA has a longer wavelength that causes
photoaging and can produce some melanomas. UVB has a shorter wavelength that also causes
photoaging and has been implicated in skin cancers. Photoaging is the premature aging or deep
wrinkling of skin. Indoor tanning units utilize both forms of light waves to tan a person with a
minimized risk of sunburn. Tanning outdoors does not give you this option because the sun omits
every type of UV rays, so a person is more likely to burn. A person s skin epidermis consists of two
layers: The germinative layer and the horny layer. Another name for the germinative layer is the living
layer. And another name for the horny layer is the dead layer. When exposed to ultraviolet light,
melanocytes in the germinative layer produce melanin that is absorbed by surrounding cells. Melanin
is a dark pigment found in the pigment bearing cells of the skin, and melanocytes are epidermal cells
capable of synthesizing melanin. This creates a protective barrier from ultraviolet light reaching
deeper into the layers of the skin. The pale pink melanin granules are stored in the core of keratin
cells. UVA darkens the melanin,

sporangium. Each sporangium roughly produces 20 30 zoospores. Production of zoospores occurs
normally in moist conditions and around temperature range of 22 28°C. Two flagella helps their
motility and they can survive up to four days. On the other hand chlamydospores are produced when
conditions are unfavourable. They are also produced from mycelium, but they possess thick cell ...

Imagination vs Reality When it comes to imagination versus reality, the processes in the brain are
different. But just how different are they? Our mind can run away with us, leading us to act through
suspicion or fear, but we can also use our imagination as a tool to change our life. Humans have
tended to draw a line between reality that which we actually experience and imagination, seen as a
frivolous, dreamlike deflection. For ages, spiritual contemplatives and artists have taken flights of
imagination much more seriously and challenged the firmness of that line. It is just like how
imagination plays a very real role in our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Connecting that to Blackmore s idea, we can see that this fundamentalist way of thinking can act as a
way of speaking. By means of that, fundamentalists believe that their claims and ideas are in fact pure
knowledge. This is the concern of fundamentalists of all kinds: religious, atheistical, scientific,
technological, economic, and political. They all seek power they seek victory (Berry 22). In this, Berry
is describing how all fundamentalists are able to seek power and control and reach out to more people
with their beliefs. This could be the reason why fundamentalist speak with a strict close minded way.
People of religion, and not just fundamentalists, can speak with tiresome confidence of knowing what
in fact they don t know but believe (Berry 22). Nonetheless, under direct relation to how memes are
described as a unit of imitation (Blackmore 35), it is evident that fundamentalism gain their powerful
hold on the human race through capitalism. Capitalism has used memes to make itself into something
that mirrors a religion. Our place of worship has been transfigured from a church, temple, or
synagogue to the workplace. In Blackmore s text, she talks about how Dawkins wrote that memes can
be a part of creating religion: He wrote about religions as groups of memes with a high survival value,
infecting whole societies with belief in a God or an afterlife (36). The memes want

The Importance Of Names In Song Of Solomon
People choose names for a reason, whether it is so that the child takes on a certain personality, based
on who they are named after, or so that he or she may carry on the name of a beloved family member.
Many names that are popular today are names from the Bible, since most of the biblical characters
possess characteristics that parents would want their child to have. Names like Noah, Jacob, David,
and Miriam, are names currently in the top 1000 child names in the world, and they are all biblical
names. Names from the Bible are also found in many works of literature, like Toni Morrison s Song of
Solomon, a coming of age story about a young man during the mid twentieth century. The reader is
introduced to multiple characters with biblical names, which correspond to the characters
personalities. In the book Song of Solomon, the characters take on the role of their biblical names.
Reba, Milkman s mother, can most closely be associated with Rebecca from the Bible, as their names
are nearly identical. In the Bible, Rebecca is known for her loyalty and devotion to her son Jacob,
whom she favors over her other son, Esau. She willingly ruins her relationship to one of her sons and
also her husband, Isaac, both of which she loves dearly. In Song of Solomon, Reba cherishes her
daughter Hagar, and makes sacrifices to please her, one of which includes the donation of her diamond
ring, which she miraculously wins when she walks into a Sears store. The winning of the ring shows

Insomni Symptoms And Treatments
Insomnia? Do you know what insomnia is? Is insomnia, short term, long term, or both? The many
types/forms of insomnia, there is? How much insomnia can affect someone or even your own life?
Insomnia could have a huge, or small effect on your life. Many famous people such as Lady Gaga,
Madonna, Eninem, Sandra Bullock, and also George Clooney have insomnia. Even though these
famous people have insomnia, they have found many ways to cope with it, and live their lives. On the
other hand, there are many different forms of insomnia. You will briefly learn about each form of
insomnia, what I personally think insomnia is, the causes and effects it has, symptoms, and mainly its
treatments. Which brings me to my thesis; do you think you would be able to cope with insomnia, and
what the different types of diagnoses for insomnia are? For starters insomnia, for me, means not
having a good night s sleep, because you are having a hard time falling asleep, and also staying asleep.
If you are not getting enough rest you can take pills such as melatonin, which tells your brain that it is
time to sleep. Also, this could cause you to not be fully rested when you have to start your day, not
having enough energy to complete your daily duties. All of these things result in you not being able to
live up to your potentials in life. Although there other, more detailed definitions of insomnia, here is
an example of a well detailed definition of insomnia. Insomnia is a common sleep disorder. People

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas Fear
How does the author, John Boyne, of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas explore the notion of fear in the
novel? Refer to social context
John Boyne s historical fable, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, is an optimistic narration of World War
Two set in the Out With concentration camp. In the background of the war, the story details the life of
male protagonist Bruno, who befriends the unlikeliest of strangers in his attempt to adjust to life at
Out With. In Boyne s portrayal of this dictatorship, the characters go through life controlled by the
notion of fear, only escaping its grasp through the most dramatic of circumstances. The didactic text
paints a picture of how we don t have a choice when we are being controlled by our fear (p.8). Thus,

During chapter two, Boyne characterises Bruno s fear through the use of dialogue where Bruno froze,
unable to move for a moment (p.17). By implementing this somewhat clichéd metaphor, Boyne paints
a vivid picture of the fear Bruno feels after betraying social etiquette. Bruno knows what he did was
wrong, and later awaits to be called into Father s office to be punished. Boyne introduces the setting of
Father s office as being Out of Bounds At All Times And No Exceptions (p.44). From Boyne s
introduction of the office with capitalisation, Boyne emphasises to the audience that Bruno views the
office as Out of Bounds , suggesting deep set fear towards Father as Bruno has a negative connotation
towards Father s office. This relationship built on the basis of fear is similar in substance to the
relationship between Father and the Fury. Boyne briefly explores this relationship during a literary
flashback. The dialogue where Father states how he has no choice demonstrates to the reader how, like
Bruno, Father was afraid of the repercussions which would occur by going against the rules set in
place by the Fury. This is the basis of the tactic used by hijackers asking for ransom money, they instil
fear in their victims to ensure that they will obey as Father obeys the Fury by moving to Out With.
Consequently, from his character development, Boyne

My Vacation Without A Bicycle Essay
Once upon a time, when I was 12 years old, during a summer vacation, I had a desire to own a bicycle.
My parents did not fulfil my desire. They thought it was an invitation for trouble and accidents. My
father who was an officer in Indian Army would always heed to my request with demur. If I rebelled
or tried any of my childish tantrums at home, he would greet me with a rod. There was nothing that I
could do to improve the probability to own a bicycle.
Summer vacation without a bicycle made my life less enjoyable. During this time, my friends would
assemble to ride around the neighbourhood with their bicycles as a happy lot. Since I did not own a
bicycle, I would wait patiently for my friend Vinay to be tired. Once he is tired, he would ... Show

The day I could ride to school in bicycle had finally dawned. I woke up early, polished my bicycle,

supplements through fruits and vegetables, grains, dairy products, and meats. When these supplements
are not provided to the human body, there will be a decrease of health to one self. Individuals with the

Those who live independently have free access to the harmful substances. Those who have no
limitations to these substances will continue to use them and the more they use, the worse their body

because they can help the individuals eliminate the use of Pica. It is also essential for parents to watch
over their children carefully. Parents should child proof the home and keep all harmful substances out
of reach from the children. Children do not understand the harm they are doing to their bodies by

A prognosis for individuals who have Pica can vary by how motivated the individual is to quit. Pica is

Cravings can come and go but those should seek for help when the cravings occur. There are many

French Involvement in the California Gold Rush
California Gold Rush, Mexican War, Who found gold. Why the Mexicans didn t.
During the late 1840s, France had suffered commercial decline. France had begun construction on a
large scale rail network, but failed to budget their construction properly, leaving the construction
unfinished, and it s backers bankrupt. This cascaded further than the initial investors, as smelters who
relied on the railways to buy their metal lost a major purchaser. The resulting economic fallout lead to
unemployment across several industries. The lack of work for the majority of the populace led many
to poverty. At the time, bread prices began rising prices, further straining the economic situation of the
working class. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While newspapers such as the New York Herald touted the grandiose tales of gold flowing in
California. Papers such as the Times of gand the Courrier des Etats Unis were more relaxed in their
reports, expecting newspapers such as the Herald to have greatly exaggerated the news in California,
as was expected of Americans at the time. In addition to the skeptical attitude held by the Courrier, the
gold rush did not reach national attention immediately due to more pressing matters at home.
Following the uprising came the freedom of the press, universal suffrage regardless of gender, and the
national elections for President of France; these topics dominated French headlines, and competed
against the reports of gold. Still, the gold rumors managed to pepper the daily newspapers. The
populace however, remained adamant that the reports were simply American fantasy. It wasn t until
December fifth, 1848, when President Polk delivered his State of the Union and confirmed the rumors
of gold in California, did the acceptance of the gold rush become unanimous. With the elections
drawing to a close on December tenth, France was in a frenzy, with the fervor of a new duly elected
president, and the dreams of Californian gold.

  • 2. Lorichard Cory Essay In Edwin Arlington Robinson s poem ¨Richard Cory¨, the character Richard Cory shows the reader that suicide is an escape from a terrible life. This poem contains a lot of surprises and even somewhat confusing parts. The reader is left asking themselves why the character in this poems, writing had to end it all. Was it really all that bad to where they just ended everything? Personification is shown when the river has a ¨face¨ and ¨asked¨ for a kiss, as well in the whole piece when the act of suicide writes a note. In the poem, a shift happens and it directs the readers into a different direction. The main shift occurs between the title and the body. The title is straightforward, except for the personification of suicide. It is serious and sad. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For one, he selected the name ¨Richard Cory¨ according to the royal meaning behind the name. When the poem reads, he was always human when he talked, I did not quite understand. Soon afterward, I realized the author meant Richard Cory was not a conceited or arrogant man; he was a friendly man. I could imagine him being the brightest thing on the street when I comprehended he glittered when he walked. I realized that Richard Cory was more than just a rich man. Here we have a man s life story distilled into sixteen lines. A dramatist would have been under the necessity of justifying the suicide by some train of events in which Richard Cory s character would have inevitably betrayed him. A novelist would have dissected the psychological effects of these events upon Richard Cory. The poet, with a more profound grasp of life than either, shows us only what life itself would show us; we know Richard Cory only through the effect of his personality upon those who were familiar with him, and we take both the character and the motive for granted as equally inevitable. Therein lies the ironic touch, which is intensified by the simplicity of the poetic form in which this tragedy is given ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Alternative Dispute Resolution, Or Adr Alternative Dispute Resolution, or ADR is the phrase used to describe the different methods of ways to resolve legal disputes outside of the court system. There are many advantages and disadvantages to it, and they come in many different forms in England and Wales. These include administrative tribunals, arbitration, mediation, adjudication, conciliation, negotiation, expert determination and the ombudsmen services. Administrative Tribunals come in many different forms and can cover many areas including employment tribunals, lands tribunals and rent tribunals. The most common one being employment tribunals. The distinction between Tribunals and the Courts have sometimes be blurred because it has long been held that tribunals are just an administrative extension to the Court system and therefore some argue that Tribunals are not a separate entity, There is some debate as to whether tribunals are merely part of the machinery of administration of particular projects or whether their function is the distinct one of adjudication, 1 However the main difference between tribunals and the courts is that tribunals are much more specialised in nature, coming in many forms, some of which are stated above. Administrative tribunals are also not staffed by judges, and are staffed be specialists in the particular field in which the administrative tribunal is being held. For example, an employment tribunal would be chaired by a panel of people who specialise in employment law. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exoskeletons are helping injured veterans learn to walk by providing just enough support to make movement possible. i They also help strengthen muscles dramatically all while not overwhelming the patient. Researchers at MIT just invented the roboglove. It lets users do things like hold an object with a couple of fingers while using the others to perform another job such as adding salt to a cup of liquid or opening the top of a jar. ii The roboglove uses a system that teaches the robotic components to move based on human hand movements. The next step is to understand how and why this metabolic pathway becomes impaired in the fat cells of these individuals. v As always the problem will continue to be money. The U.S. government needs to fund more research dedicated to human prosthetics. The possibilities are endless and this is where the future is taking our society. Investing in technology that serves to benefit people is definitely something that needs to be done. NASA is at an all time low for funding right now and that is very disappointing. With increased production for machinery such as the roboglove comes increased environment concerns. The materials required to make these new innovations are very expensive and complicated to produce. That being said pollution will always play a role in the production of the roboglove. In terms of social issues there will always be a moderately sized group of individuals who do not agree with some human prosthetics. Most of the negativity comes from how the materials are actually obtained. The majority of the time, animals have to be tested before humans receive the prosthetics. • 5. Appeasement Policy Essay Today, the Appeasement policy that Britain and France in the period of German aggression, was one of the main factors historians would consider to have caused the Second World War. Had the British or any of the Allied powers, intervened in Nazi expansionism, the war could have been prevented as early as 1936, when Germany violated the Treaty of Versailles with the occupation of the Rhineland. The Appeasement is seen as the act of cowardice and of poor judgement of the world powers. Britain, in particular, is in the spotlight. It was still considered the major power as well as the leader the rest of the world looked upon to champion democracy and to uphold its position as the winner of the first world war. There are arguments that with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To the British government, risking war will only bring in more costs and conflicts they did not need. This also means that perhaps the lack of intervention to the British was not seen as an act of cowardice, but simply an act for convenience the idea that it is too much trouble to go to war. Besides the fact that Britain already had a lot on its plate, perhaps the primary reason why Britain did not get into conflict with Germany is because of the public consensus that they the people simply did not want to go to war. Britain did not stand up to the Nazis, because the British people did not want to stand up to the Nazis. Throughout Europe, not just in Britain, memories of the first world war was still very much present in people s minds. To people at the time, they were currently living through its direct consequences. The British public insisted that everything must be done so that war would not occur. Indeed, the policy of appeasement is evidence of that, on its own. But this can be seen most strikingly on September 15, 1938. Britain realized that Germany s attack on Czechoslovakia would lead to war with France and the Soviet Union, which also implies inevitable British involvement in the conflict. In which case, Chamberlain met with Hitler at Berchtesgaden where Britain forced the Czechs to give up Sudetenland to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Jeannette Rankin Moral Courage Hero Jeanette Rankin EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Jeannette Rankin believed, What one decides to do in crisis depends on one s philosophy of life, and that philosophy cannot be changed by an incident. If one hasn t any philosophy in crises, others make the decision (Lewis, 2011). This quote introduces us to the life of an amazing woman who dedicated her life to the rights of women, children, blue collar workers, veterans and most importantly peace. Many times in this paper, Jeanette s own quotes will serve as the voice of her moral courage. Born in an era of limited women s rights, Jeannette Rankin challenged conventional thought about the influence and power of a woman. She was the first woman elected to Congress, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Environment An important factor in shaping Jeannette was being born in Missoula, Montana. It is important to this report to understand the community where Jeannette grew up. It was a factor in the formation of her worldviews. John and Olive settled in a beautiful area of the Missoula valley called Grant Creek. Even to today, Grant Creek is a lush, tranquil setting that has a quiet sense of Jeannette s world 130 years ago. Again, Lewis and Clark had visited the Missoula valley only 75 years before Jeannette was born. It was a vibrant, diverse community. John Rankin was amongst its first settlers and treated the local Native Americans as he would any other neighbor. At that time, there was enough for everyone; poverty was a distant concept. Anyone who wanted to work and thrive could do so. This was where Jeannette formed her perspective of how the world can be. The relative equality that existed was a given right to all. Even today, Missoula is a liberal community with a high level of acceptance of diversity and free thought. Jeanette was among the first generation of non Native Americans born to this valley. Socially, a significant issue affecting Montana at the time of Jeanette s formative young adult years was the rise of the labor unions. Butte, a major mining center, had just formed a Miners Union. This created wide divisions in politics around the state. This would have a great impact on Jeannette s eventual election to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These products fill our garages and store rooms in small quantities. However, these household products pose a minor threat compared to the large amounts of dangerous chemicals, and products are shipped, stored, or produce on a large scale in our towns. The failure to properly handle these chemicals and products can and frequently has a disastrous outcome. This hazardous material (hazmat) disasters have different threats and considerations than other disasters. Responders need to be aware of these risks and factors and manage the scene accordingly. A hazardous material disaster can be described as a large scale interruption of daily activities by an unplanned release spill, fire or explosion involving hazardous materials that cause, or have the potential to cause widespread injuries or damage to people, property or the environment (Kramer, 2009, p. 194). These disasters are significant events that take a multitude of agencies and experts to correctly mitigate the incident, minimizing the potential effects of the hazardous material involved. Hazardous materials are part of our everyday lives. We see them on the freeways, factories, manufacturing plants, rail cars, and even gas stations. What I have learnt since the first case study and how I would have improved the learning experience? From the first case study, I have learnt various elements of the external and internal business surrounding. In terms of external environment, what stands out is the significance of external environment scanning in the day to day entity operation. What stands out in as far as the internal environment is concerned is the role that adding value plays in the modern business. What I would have done differently during the process is an analysis of more organizations and industries. Conclusion drawn from a wider scope of information sources is more reliable. • 9. The Theme Of Love In Valentine By Carol Ann Duffy Being in love is like an amalgamation of different yet powerful emotions exploding every second. It tends to heighten ones perception, hence, perceiving the world through a larger lens. It can cause a deep sense of grief at times but it can also make one feel a certain kind of content. The very exclusive one where the abundance of joy cannot be defined. Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy explores the many sides to love. The entire poem is an extended metaphor that criticizes the stereotypical idea of love. Duffy uses an onion, a very unusual object as a symbol to represent a gift for one s admirer. Duffy utilizes a plethora of different words ranging from positive to negative. She carefully picks them to warn the reader what your about to read isn t an ordinary love poem. The words careful and light introduced in the first stanza express delicacy and innocence. Love could explode at anytime yet remain stable. Duffy inserts direct, straightforward words such as here and take it to catch the reader s attention. These words are ended with a period giving an austere tone. The use of negative words such as blind, tears and grief illustrate an image of sorrow and misery creating an element of danger. Something quite uncommon for a poem entitled valentine . Here Duffy takes the reader to the unpleasant side of love that is often ignored in most love poems. She is conveying the true reality of being in love and not just the fantasized version of it. In the second half of the poem, Duffy chooses to use a more bold set of words such as fierce , possessive , lethal and faithful which contradict the words kiss , stay and lips which is more subtle and distinctive. The repetition of the word cling towards the end of the poem emphasizes that once your love is vanished the scent the memory will still live on, leaving an impression in your life, a permanent tattoo imprinted in your ... I lit my burner with matches and started assembling my make shift cotton toothpicks. My Q tips were plastic, so I (with gloved hands) ripped the cotton off the swab and wrapped it around a toothpick. I then proceeded to dip the cotton in and wait a second or two before waving it through the flame. I noticed the color change with the sodium immediately, but with the others it took a bit longer. I repeated the process with each liquid three times just to be sure. Especially with the Potassium, as it was very difficult for me to discern the color change. I tried to eliminate any major errors by taking my time and redoing the experiment a few times, but I did spill a bit of the liquid as a cut the pipets open. Also, my swabs may have been previously contaminated by the salt on our skin due to frequent use. MSDS INFO

In contrast the deontology approach I think that a lot of people fall into the emotivism approach. Emotivism is a non cognitive theory of ethics, because it denies, among other things, that moral claims can appeal to facts. Rather, emotivism, as the name indicates, simply says that moral claims express an emotional response, or an attitude, we may have toward a given kind of behavior (Mosser, 2010). • 14. The Qualities Of An Anglo Saxon Hero Bravery. Honor. Intelligence. Loyalty. Sense of Duty. Selflessness. Sense of Justice. Strength. Boasting. These are the common characteristics of an Anglo Saxon hero. Anglo Saxon heroes display some or all of these attributes, which help distinguish them as a hero. Much like Batman and Superman or other heros of modern day, Anglo Saxon heroes protect the public against evil foes, or perhaps Villains. They act courageously and selflessly, without seeking personal gain. Also, they possess an overwhelming sense of duty to protect those in need. Furthermore, Superheros are loyal to those they serve, whether it be their lord, or the Lord. With all these characteristics in mind, the character of Beowulf can clearly be seen as an Anglo Saxon hero. Specifically, his overwhelming bravery, loyalty, and sense of duty establish him as an Anglo Saxon hero. First of all, Beowulf is the pure embodiment of bravery. A man who drove five great giants into chains, chased all of that race from the earth , and also swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean and killing them one by one , is clearly the bravest man alive, bar none. Furthermore, even before he slayed Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the Dragon, Beowulf already had a reputation as one of the bravest men in the word. Then, while battling the three beasts we witness in Beowulf, he further shows his bravery by killing Grendel with nothing but the strength in his fingers. After that, he swims down through ... The Contribution Of Social Marketing Definition To lay the basis of critically assessing and outlining the contribution of social marketing to contemporary marketing thinking, I should first define the possibly obscure meaning of the particular type of commerce. The initial definition depicts social marketing as the design, implementation and control of programs calculated to influence the acceptability of social ideas and involving considerations of product planning, pricing, communication, distribution and marketing research (Kotler and Zaltman, 1971, p. 5). In Marketing Social Marketing in the Social Change Marketplace Alan R. Andreasen argues that the given definition does not outline the essence social behavioural change. In his words, the acceptance of an idea alone does not guarantee the success of influencing behaviour. The latest interpretation of ISMA solves that problem by stating the outcome explicitly. (2013). Furthermore, the whole discipline is currently defined as a process that analyses a problem and gives a solution that answers to the customer s requirements profitably (CIM definition). Companies use it for raising their income, organisations popularise an activity, etc. It follows that what makes social marketing unique is its purpose. While any other branch of marketing aims personal benefit, the ultimate purpose of social marketing is the welfare of the society. A topology is the physical configuration of a network that determines how the network s computers are connected. The way in which constituent parts are arranged. The physical topology of a network is the actual geometric layout of workstations. There are several common physical topologies based on the configuration. They are Star Topology, Ring Topology, Buss Topology, Mesh Topology, Hybrid Topology and Tree Topology. 2.2 Star Topology: Star topology is one of the most common network setups. In this arrangement, every node connects to a central hub, switch or computer; the hub acting as a server and the peripheral devices as clients. A major disadvantage of this network topology is that if the central hub fails, all of the connected devices are disconnected. In a star network layout, each workstation is connected by its own cable directly to the server. Star networks are usually the layout of choice in schools and offices because they tend to be the most reliable of the topologies. The visual example shows how this setup gets its name as it is shaped very much like a star. FIGURE 2.1: Star Topology Advantages: Star networks are very reliable. Although it will take time, both types of students will learn to speak their second language proficiently. While these students are learning, they will make mistakes. The article states that if teachers correct the mistakes directly, it may discourage students from trying out their new language skills. Modeling the correct language is a much better way of correcting mistakes then using direct correction. One of the best ways to help students learn a second language is to use a variety of settings that promote talk and interaction. These not only help students understand new concepts, but they also help to provide a foundation for learning through reading and writing. They found the metal axes, knives, hoes, and kettles far superior to their implements of stone, bone, shell, and wood. The recurring raids prompted the French to help their Indian allies attack the Iroquois in 1609, opening a new technological era for the people of the Confederacy. French body armor was made of metal, whereas that of the Iroquois was made of slatted wood. Furthermore, the French fought with firearms, while traditional Iroquois weapons were bows and arrows, stone tomahawks, and wooden warclubs. In response to European influence, the Iroquois gradually changed their military tactics to incorporate stealth, surprise, and ambush. Their motives for fighting also changed. In the past, they had fought for prestige or revenge, or to obtain goods or captives; now they fought for economic advantage, seeking control over bountiful beaver hunting grounds or perhaps a stash of beaver skins to trade for European goods. Although it provided the Indians with better tools, European incursion into the territory was disastrous for the indigenous people. Ultraviolet light, whether produced by a tanning unit or by the sun, contains two components; UVA and UVB. These are the two types of ultraviolet radiation that are known to negatively effect the skin. UVA has a longer wavelength that causes photoaging and can produce some melanomas. UVB has a shorter wavelength that also causes photoaging and has been implicated in skin cancers. Photoaging is the premature aging or deep wrinkling of skin. Indoor tanning units utilize both forms of light waves to tan a person with a minimized risk of sunburn. Tanning outdoors does not give you this option because the sun omits every type of UV rays, so a person is more likely to burn. A person s skin epidermis consists of two layers: The germinative layer and the horny layer. Another name for the germinative layer is the living layer. And another name for the horny layer is the dead layer. When exposed to ultraviolet light, melanocytes in the germinative layer produce melanin that is absorbed by surrounding cells. Melanin is a dark pigment found in the pigment bearing cells of the skin, and melanocytes are epidermal cells capable of synthesizing melanin. This creates a protective barrier from ultraviolet light reaching deeper into the layers of the skin. The pale pink melanin granules are stored in the core of keratin cells. In this, Berry is describing how all fundamentalists are able to seek power and control and reach out to more people with their beliefs. In the background of the war, the story details the life of male protagonist Bruno, who befriends the unlikeliest of strangers in his attempt to adjust to life at Out With. During chapter two, Boyne characterises Bruno s fear through the use of dialogue where Bruno froze, unable to move for a moment (p.17). By implementing this somewhat clichéd metaphor, Boyne paints a vivid picture of the fear Bruno feels after betraying social etiquette. Bruno knows what he did was wrong, and later awaits to be called into Father s office to be punished. Boyne introduces the setting of Father s office as being Out of Bounds At All Times And No Exceptions (p.44). From Boyne s introduction of the office with capitalisation, Boyne emphasises to the audience that Bruno views the office as Out of Bounds , suggesting deep set fear towards Father as Bruno has a negative connotation towards Father s office. This relationship built on the basis of fear is similar in substance to the relationship between Father and the Fury. Boyne briefly explores this relationship during a literary flashback. The dialogue where Father states how he has no choice demonstrates to the reader how, like Bruno, Father was afraid of the repercussions which would occur by going against the rules set in place by the Fury.
