WebPA is an open source online peer assessment system that was originally developed in 1998. It allows students to provide peer evaluations of individual contributions to group work, generating adjusted individual marks. Teachers benefit from WebPA's flexibility to customize assessment criteria and groups, and its automated generation of individual student marks. Learners benefit from the fair and confidential peer assessment process, which positively impacts individual performance, team dynamics, and the overall learning experience. WebPA has been successfully adopted by several universities and is praised by both students and faculty for improving group work assessments.

Megan Townes and Warwick Noble from Abbotsleigh school discuss their experience transitioning to Windows 8. They conducted play, pilot, and implementation phases starting in early 2013. Over 800 devices were upgraded in two months including mandatory upgrades for certain years. Learning occurs when student have to assess another student’s work because it forces them to analyze the finer nuances of the assignment in order to grade and provide effective feedback to a peer. This feature can be used to assess as well as teach. This session will explore how rubrics can be used for peer grading and lessons learned when first implementing this type of assignment in a pharmacy management course. At the end of the session, participants will be able to: 1) Explain the value of assessment as a teaching method. 2) List possible assignments in your course/program that could utilize peer grading with rubrics. 3) Compare functions “To Do” or “Not To Do” when creating a peer grading assignment for the first time.

This is a web learning portal, recommending students the study contents primarily based on their department and current semester. Studymate is developed using Google Apps and cloud platform provided by Google. The idea of Studymate is students of every department in VESIT will ask their queries of particular subjects and the respective teachers of that domain will provide answers and other references to those queries. A single query can be answered by multiple teachers of that particular domain. So Studymate is an e-learning portal for teachers to upload their notes and related documents pertaining to their subjects. Students can access them and rate the content. Students can also clarify their doubts by directly contacting the teacher.

At many universities, the Blackboard subject site is the primary interface for the student learning experience. If the site is poorly organised, students do not know how to navigate the learning experience, such as when to engage with what content. If assessment criteria are minimally indicated, the quality of submissions suffers. If no tools are used to foster interaction, the learning experience becomes isolating. Conversely, when Bb sites are effectively designed and maintained, the quality of the student learning experience tends to be high. The quality of Bb sites varies across universities and within programs of study. Students who experience a well-designed site in their first semesters come to expect this standard in subsequent semesters. Bond University thereby undertook a whole-of-university strategic priority project to improve 180 Bb subject sites in 180 days. Associate Deans (Learning & Teaching) in each faculty selected the sites. The initial quality of the sites varied, with many assessed as initially high quality, meaning that improvement meant moving from strength to strength and focusing on elements such as increasing elements of technology enhanced learning. The co-facilitators of this presentation are the academic developers who worked one-on-one with each of the participating academics. Therefore, from their perspectives, the key takeaways for attending delegates will be: - Identification of challenges and stumbling blocks, as well as success strategies - Checklists and professional development materials - Illustration of before and after improvements as exemplars - Ideas for increasing elements of technology enhanced learning - Templates for emails, announcements and other communications

At the University of South Africa (Unisa) two weblog tools were used during different semesters to assist in teaching a first year programming language. A comparison was made from the learner, the facilitator and the technical viewpoint of these two weblog tools available at Unisa. This paper describes the practical considerations taken and decision-making processes followed when a choice between two web-logging tools was required. The aim is to consider factors that may affect the acceptance and use of weblog tools, and reasons why one works better than another in an Open Distance Learning (ODL) environment, especially for modules having student numbers in excess of three hundred.
