VERIFICATION OF KIRCHOFF CURRENT AND VOLTAGE LAWS
AIM: To verify Kirchhoff’s current law and voltage law.

Kirchoff’s current law(KCL)

Equivalent resistance of resistors in parallel 1/R1= 1/R1 + 1/R2
R1 = 50Ω, R2= 100Ω
So 1/R1=1/50 + 1/100 R=33.33 ohm I=5/33.33ohm=0.15=150mA
With a 5V power supply,V=I R the total current in the circuit is: I=v/R =5/33.33ohm =150mA
The individual currents can also be found using I= V/R, the voltage across each resistor is 5V,so
I1=5/50=100mA
I2=5/100=50mA
Note that the currents add together to 150mA,the total current

Kirchhoff’s voltage law (KVL):
Circuit diagram for KVL
A series circuit is shown in the diagram above. The current flows through each resistor in turn. If the
value of the two resistors are:
R1 = 50Ω, R2= 100Ω, R= R1 + R2
R=50+100 R=150Ω
With a 5V power supply, V = I R the total current in the circuit is:
I = V / R = 5/150Ω = 33.33Ma. The current through each resistor would be 33.33Ma.
V1= I*R1=33.33*50= 1.666V
V2= I*R2=33.33*100= 3.333V
Note That The voltage added together to 5V,the total voltage range 5V
PROCEDURE:
1. Switch ON the DC regulated power supply and set the voltage 5V.
2. Now switch OFF the DC regulated power supply and arrange the apparatus as per the circuit
diagram with the help connecting wires one after another.
3. While connecting analogue meters make sure correct polarities.
4. Now switch ON the DC regulated power supply and measure the total current I1 & I2 flowing
through R2 & R2 with ammeter and voltage across R2 with the help of digital multimeter for KCL
circuit.
5. For KVL circuit measure voltage V1& V2 across R1 & R2, with the help of digital multimeter
and current with help of ammeter.
6. Note down the observations of ammeter and digital multimeter readings in the tabular form

Verification of kirchoff current and voltage laws

  • 1. KCL AND KVL DEEE-EMS LAB SAI SPURTHI INSTITUE TECHNOLOGY- B.GANGARAM VERIFICATION OF KIRCHOFF CURRENT AND VOLTAGE LAWS AIM: To verify Kirchhoff’s current law and voltage law. NAME OF THE APPARATUS; S.No. Name of the apparatus Range Type Quantity 1 Ammeter 0-100mA 1 No. 2 Ammeter 0-500mA 1 No. 3 Digital multimeter. 1 No. 4 Resistors 50Ω, 100Ω, 0.5Watt 1 No. 5 DC regulated power supply 1 No. 6 Connecting Wires CIRCUIT DIAGRAM Kirchoff’s current law(KCL) Circuit diagram for KCL Equivalent resistance of resistors in parallel 1/R1= 1/R1 + 1/R2 R1 = 50Ω, R2= 100Ω So 1/R1=1/50 + 1/100 R=33.33 ohm I=5/33.33ohm=0.15=150mA With a 5V power supply,V=I R the total current in the circuit is: I=v/R =5/33.33ohm =150mA The individual currents can also be found using I= V/R, the voltage across each resistor is 5V,so I1=5/50=100mA I2=5/100=50mA Note that the currents add together to 150mA,the total current
  • 2. KCL AND KVL DEEE-EMS LAB SAI SPURTHI INSTITUE TECHNOLOGY- B.GANGARAM Kirchhoff’s voltage law (KVL): Circuit diagram for KVL A series circuit is shown in the diagram above. The current flows through each resistor in turn. If the value of the two resistors are: R1 = 50Ω, R2= 100Ω, R= R1 + R2 R=50+100 R=150Ω With a 5V power supply, V = I R the total current in the circuit is: I = V / R = 5/150Ω = 33.33Ma. The current through each resistor would be 33.33Ma. V1= I*R1=33.33*50= 1.666V V2= I*R2=33.33*100= 3.333V Note That The voltage added together to 5V,the total voltage range 5V PROCEDURE: 1. Switch ON the DC regulated power supply and set the voltage 5V. 2. Now switch OFF the DC regulated power supply and arrange the apparatus as per the circuit diagram with the help connecting wires one after another. 3. While connecting analogue meters make sure correct polarities. 4. Now switch ON the DC regulated power supply and measure the total current I1 & I2 flowing through R2 & R2 with ammeter and voltage across R2 with the help of digital multimeter for KCL circuit. 5. For KVL circuit measure voltage V1& V2 across R1 & R2, with the help of digital multimeter and current with help of ammeter. 6. Note down the observations of ammeter and digital multimeter readings in the tabular form
