1) Agricultural markets in India generate large amounts of fruit and vegetable waste, estimated at over 7 lakh tonnes annually. 2) This waste is generated from the sorting, cleaning, and transportation processes in Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) which regulate agricultural markets across India. 3) This fruit and vegetable waste can be utilized to produce various food and industrial products like juices, vinegars, animal feed, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical ingredients, thereby providing economic and environmental benefits.
