Essay on Caffeine Effects In The Brain
Caffeine Effects In The Brain
Caffeine acts in a multitude of ways in the brain. The most recent studies explore the cooperative
effects of adenosine and dopamine, as well as the increase in calcium in the interstitial fluid and
possible accumulation of cyclic adenosine monophospate. The most popular discussions of earlier
studies of caffeine demonstrate its antagonistic effects on adenosine receptors. While it has been
reported that adenosine receptors are located throughout the brain, the various subtypes can be found
in very specific areas.
Studies have also shown that caffeine reactions in the brain are based on the localization of adenosine
receptors, dopamine receptors, and the amount of caffeine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

(Garrett, 1997; Myers, 1999) According to the
Pacific Nueropsychiatric Institute caffeine inhibits phosphodiesterase breakdown of cyclie 3 , 5
adenosine monophosphate. (Pharmacology, caffeine, 2) Again, this occurs only in large quantities that
have yet to be naturally found in vivo. (Myers, 1999) Keep in mind that if cyclic AMP had a greater
than normal concentration in the synaptic cleft, it would continue to breakdown adenosine which has a
depressant effect on functions in the brain. For example, adenosine in the central nervous system
inhibits neurotransmitter release and depresses locomotor activity, however with higher concentrations
of cyclic AMP there is less adenosine so, the effects on the biology of the brain are an enhanced
neurotransmitter release, and stimulated locomotor activity (Garrett, 1997). Another way caffeine acts
on the brain is indirectly through the dopamine receptors. As stated by Garrett and
Griffiths (1997), Although caffeine does not bind directly to dopamine receptors a number of
conflicting reports suggest that caffeine can either decrease or increase dopamine release (p.535). For
example, Caffeine significantly decreases dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) levels in the striatum,
hypothalamus, and frontal cortex, but increases DOPAC levels in the nucleus accumbens
(p.535).
Caffeine also is responsible for significant

Essay about The Nullification Crisis
February 22, 2013
The Nullification Crisis
The Nullification Crisis was a revolt by the citizens against Andrew Jackson and the Union, whereby
they sought liberty and the state of being free, including various social, political, and economic
privileges. This attempt to revolt against Jackson failed, and their seceding from the country was not
granted. In these efforts to secede, they sought liberty and worked together as a state to gain what they
believed to be free and include various privileges they rightfully have.
The Nullification Crisis displayed the attempt of the citizen s to achieve the securing of the blessings
of liberty, yet the citizen s attempt failed. In 1819, Andrew Jackson was elected as President of the

He pleaded Henry Clay, an old friend, to draft a solution with him. Clay developed a compromise
proposal, which lowered the high tariffs by ten percent over eight years. The Compromise Tariff of
1833 barely passed through Congress, but it significantly changed the tariff. These new rates were not
nearly as low as the Southerners had hoped they would be, but it was a better compromise than the
Force Bill had offered. South Carolina s legislature voted to recede their efforts to nullify the tariff
acts, but they did attempt to nullify the Force Bill. Even though their nullification of the Force Bill
was insignificant, it allowed South Carolina to feel slightly victorious. Therefore, it is apparent that it
is the citizen s job to secure the blessings of liberty. The citizen s began to take action to secure their
blessings of liberty prior to the Nullification Crisis, when they attempted to pass the Tariff of 1828
through Congress in hopes to aid Jackson s re election. Due to Jackson s popularity, he was re elected
even without the help of the tariff. Yet the tariff was passed in 1828, and the citizen s made a firm
effort to nullify the tariff as soon as it was enacted. They believed they had the right to nullify the
tariff, which sought their own privileges in liberty. The citizens further pushed for the nullification by
trying to pass this though South Carolina s legislature, but another group of citizens seeking to secure

Surgical Site Infections At Hospitals, Accreditation...
Surgical site infections occur when a patient experiences infection following surgery, often as a direct
result of the care received in a hospital or other medical facility. While these infections can often be
easily treated while the patient is still at the hospital, the incidences of these infections can have
significant and lasting impacts on patients and the hospital itself, even resulting in a patient s death if
the infection is not detected and treated appropriately. Since these infections occur while patients are
under the care of professionals and during hospital stays, it is imperative that all involved in patient
care follow procedures and policies established by the facility to reduce the risk of infections in
patients. This involves not only information about surgical site infections and their prevention, but the
impact of these infections on patients, hospitals, and staff members, as well as how surgical site
infections impacts a facility s accreditation. The purpose of this paper is to discuss surgical site
infections, the implications of their occurrences at hospitals, accreditation expectations, and outcomes
related to cost and quality.
Surgical Site Infection
A surgical site infection is, quite simply, an infection that occurs at a surgical incision point following
a surgical procedure (Nursing Standard, 2013). As with any medical procedures, there are risks of
infection following surgery, and surgical site infections can and do occur, even in the safety and

The D Day Prayer Rhetorical Devices

War Heroes Voices from Iraq
For my book report, I read the book War Heroes Voices from Iraq by Allan Zullo. The author
interviewed ten soldiers about the time they spent in Iraq. The book tells ten different real life stories
of soldiers and what amazing things they did in Iraq. The one thing all of these soldiers have in
common is that they thought they were just doing their jobs. These soldiers are true heroes because
each of them risked their own lives to save others and to protect our country. Even though a lot of
soldiers would do that, not all survive to tell about it. The book tells ten different stories about very
special heroes. I would like to tell you about my three favorite stories. The first of my favorite stories

They cleared the house. Behind that house was a guesthouse. There were five terrorists in the

Marco then figured out the RPG had a dual trigger system. He figured it out, and fired it. Marco killed

Essay On Eczema
Eczema is a medical condition in which patches of skin become rough and inflamed, with blisters that
cause itching and bleeding, sometimes resulting from a reaction to irritation but more typically having
no obvious external cause.Atopic dermatitis (known as eczema) is an inherited, chronic inflammatory
skin condition that usually appears in early childhood. Patches of skin become red, scaly and itchy.
The exact cause of eczema is unknown, but it s thought to be linked to an overactive response by the
body s immune system to an irritant. It is this response that causes the symptoms of eczema. In
addition, eczema is commonly found in families with a history of other allergies or asthma. It is also
important to avoid skin irritants, such as soap, hot water and synthetic fabrics.Everyday things in your
environment cigarette smoke, pollen, and even your clothes can cause eczema to flare.

INTRODUCTION:
Bacteria are the smallest living organisms, they are prokaryotic and have a simple cell structure. They
do not contain a nucleus, and are unicellular. Bacteria are the most abundant microorganism. They are
among the earliest forms of life that appeared on earth billions of years ago. They can grow in
different temperatures and many exist naturally in our human flora, such as staphylococci. Growth
within different temperatures can range from 0 degrees Celsius such as psychrotrophs, to
hyperthermophiles who grown best above 70 degrees Celsius (Ritchey, Exercise 16). Bacteria have
many shapes, size, and multicell arrangements. The main bacteria shapes are cocci (spherical or ovoid
shaped), bacilli (straight rods), coccobacillus (short rods), fusiform bacillus (rod shaped bacilli with
tapered ends), vibrio (curved rods), spirillum (single spiral bacteria), and spirochete (if it is flexible
and undulating). Bacteria can form multicell arrangements, such as diplococcus (two cell
arrangements) (. Bacteria are usually named for their shape or multicell arrangement, but cannot be
truly identified by just those characteristics (Strelkauskas, Edwards, Fanhert, Pryor, 2016). Bacteria
can be classified by the way they stain. They are clear under a microscope and require staining to be
seen. To stain a bacteria, one takes a dye to color the cells. There are basic dyes that contain

Analysis Of Agatha Christie s Murder On The Orient Express
After reading all evidence in Agatha Christie s Murder on the Orient Express, I strongly believe that
Hector MacQueen murdered Samuel Edward Ratchett on the Orient Express for various reasons. All
evidence points to Hector MacQueen where he stabbed his boss twelve different times all over his
body. Hector MacQueen was Ratchett s secretary for over a year where Ratchett offered him a job
while they met in Persia. To start off, MacQueen tells Hercule Poirot in his interrogation, the detective
of the case, that he did not like nor trust his employer at all. The first point of evidence that points to
MacQueen was that MacQueen remotely thinks that Ratchett was murdered once he was told that his
Ratchett was dead, So they got him after all (Christie 49). Right after he said that I think Poirot got
him quickly off guard. The second point of evidence that points to MacQueen as the murderer is the
story of the murder of Daisy Armstrong. In chapter four, the readers learn that Samuel Edward
Ratchett was not his real name. His real name is Cassetti, the lead of the gang that killed Daisy
Armstrong. To flee America to avoid being arrested, Cassetti left the United States and changed his
name to Ratchett. You must be wondering, what does this have to do with MacQueen? The readers
learn in the second interrogation of MacQueen that MacQueen s dad was the district attorney of the
Armstrong case. To go along with MaQueen said, If ever a man deserved what he got, Ratchett or

Functions Of The Endocrine System
Unlike plants, humans require organs and systems to produce hormones. One of the major systems we
need is the endocrine system. The endocrine system is the collection of glands of an organism which
secrete hormones directly into the circulatory system, which then distributes the hormones to specific
organs. The main endocrine glands include the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, pineal gland, thyroid
gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, pancreas, gonads(testes, ovaries) and thymus. Each have
specific operations that they complete which make us function properly. The study dealing with the

The pituitary gland, also known as the hypophysis, is a small pea sized lump of tissue connected to the
inferior portion of the hypothalamus of the brain. Many blood vessels surround the pituitary gland to
carry the hormones it releases throughout the body. Situated in a small depression in the sphenoid

the posterior and anterior pituitary glands.
Posterior Pituitary: The posterior pituitary gland is actually not glandular tissue at all, but nervous

1867, but he had some struggles. He was a Republican under a Democratic legislator and had no veto
power. However, he helped create a deaf mute school and a school for girls. In his second term, he
won voting rights for black males, and helped what would become Ohio State University be founded.
He also brought the idea of lower taxes and a better life for prisoners. He left office in 1872 and came
back in 1876 and served a year long term. Rutherford B. Hayes had one of the most controversial
presidential elections. In 1876, Hayes won the Republican presidential nomination. Nearing the end of
the election, South Carolina, Louisiana and Florida had trouble with the ballot. To solve the problem, a
group of representatives voted on where all the aforementioned states votes would go. The majority of
the panel were Republican, Hayes s party and he was voted into office. The Democrats were outraged.
There was an agreement made, and many troops in the south were called back. This officially ended
the Reconstruction of the states. Rutherford B Hayes was named the president by the council and
began his term March 4, 1877. Shortly after the president was elected, The Great Railroad Strike
began. Railroad workers

Erich Fromm
Erich Fromm in his novel To Have Or To Be argues that there are two forms of existence: having and
becoming. He believes that modern society is dominated by the to have mode, which is as a soul less
and selfish pursuit of material possessions. He also argues that neither capitalism nor communism
offer a way out of society s obsession with having because both economic systems have a materialistic
foundation. Therefore, Fromm attempted to synthesize capitalism and Marxist humanism to form a
society based on becoming. Fromm defined becoming as the mode of existence in which one neither
has anything nor craves to have something, but is joyous, employs one s faculties productively, is oned
to the world (16). The main difference between being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem Tennyson describes the reaction he had toward a flower he saw while taking a walk.
Instead of merely enjoying its beauty he wanted to have the flower and thus he plucked it. Tennyson,
even though he gained spiritual insight, ultimately killed the flower because of his interest in it.
Fromm s thesis is that society in its having mode of existence destroys the natural world in its pursuit
for knowledge and truth (plucking the flower). For example, scientists dismember natural systems to
understand their function and origin. Scientists may gain knowledge, but at the price of killing or
damaging the system they were observing. Overconsumption and pollution will always be a problem
for as long as mankind view the natural world as something to have or to own. An antithesis to Fromm
s assertion is that interfering with the natural world does not harm it (or plucking the flower will not
kill it). God created the world for mankind thus mankind can do with it as they please. I offer a
synthesis of both philosophies by suggesting that a passive appreciation of nature is good and is
needed, but manipulating nature is also needed for scientific advancement. However, science must not
be in the having mode, but rather it must be humble to avoid overconsumption and eventual
catastrophe. The purpose of science is to learn and to become better citizens of the world (or to
become one with the world). However,

Presidential Election Campaign Analysis
Four years have past and it is time for yet another presidential election. Presidential campaigning for
this election started as early as February, approximately 21 months prior to the actual Election Date.
The Republican party had originally 17 candidates, 16 of them dropped out leading Donald J. Trump
to be the Republican Nominee. The fight for the Democratic nomination was neck and neck. With
originally 6 candidates, 5 whom dropped out, lead Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic Nominee.

all about, which candidate best represents the issues you want to be changed (or keep.) Donald Trump
is talking about how America would be better off if we kept everyone out of it, not letting anyone
from mexico entering by building a wall. Trump thoroughly believes that this wall is how we will
make America great again. There are many people who are for trumps immigration stance, wanting to
send back any illegal immigrants to their country. However what if being failed to be noted is that
building a wall is only regressive. Building this wall with one of America s closest allies will only put
a strain in our relationship with not only Mexico, but the rest of the world. Trump wants to alienate
and attack all Mexicans legal and illegal in the United States, as opposed to Jill Stein who wants to be

The Pros And Cons Of Classifications In Biology
Classification is a matter of categorizing various living things into different groups and therefore we
can distinguish diverse species. It is absolutely crucial and takes a huge role in our lives of human
beings, who are the most developed and intellectual animals on the planet earth. Classification
gradually led to a massive development of Science, especially Biology and eventually resulted in the
creation of new classification systems which we are pretty much aware of in the 21st century. If there
were no classifications towards the uncountable living things, the entire world would be in a definite
chaos because of approximately about 8.7 million different species (Richard Black, BBC) getting

There would be positive and negative effects of creating this central hub on the Griffith campus. The
effects would also be split in to time frames, whether they are short term or long term effects. There
are going to be fewer positive effects in the short term but there will be more positive effects in the
longer term. The negative short term effects of expanding the library would be the congestion caused
by the original construction of the development. This construction would create traffic due to the
closure of roads near the site of the expansions. Positive short term effects could be the opportunity of
local students in Griffith University Gold Coast Campus to help with the construction planning or the
design of the expansion. The markets at night would also have some short term effects also creating
traffic problems throughout the campus. This would only create problems at the time of the markets
are being held. There wouldn t be any negative long term effects of the markets apart from the green
space not being able to be used on those nights for the future. There are numerous positives effects of
the markets being held at Griffith. The positive short term effects would create a steady income for
those involved in the markets. The markets will also help advertise local produce to the wider
community, supporting local farmers around the area and enticing local farmers to come down to the
campus and sell their produce.

Stop Cutting The Pacific Ocean Without Plastic Analysis
Stop Polluting the Pacific Ocean with Plastic
If someone says that the area of the floating plastic garbage in the central North Pacific Ocean is twice
the size of Texas, will you believe it? Charles Moore, an oceanographer who first came up with the
idea of Great Pacific Garbage Patch , caught sight of plastic trash floating in the North Pacific Gyre
when he was sailing from Los Angeles to Hawaii. I was confronted...with the sight of plastic, Moore
wrote in an essay for Natural History, It seemed unbelievable, but I never found a clear spot. No
matter what time of day I looked, plastic debris was floating everywhere: bottles, bottle caps,
wrappers, fragments ( History Algalita ). Besides the plastic that we can see from the surface, far
below the surface, more plastic exists. The plastic is slowly releasing toxic chemicals, harming the
water and the marine animals, and finally flows to the human body. Plastic makes our lives more
convenient, but without proper treatment, it will pollute the ocean instead; therefore, we should reduce
the amount of plastic waste we produce in order to prevent further pollution to the Pacific Ocean and
to protect the marine animals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Table 1 contains corresponding information to figure 1, as already analyzed, despite having the
highest concentrated acid solution, zinc has the lowest output of gas compared to aluminum and
magnesium. Looking at the trends, aluminum and magnesium have relatively steady increases of mass
and corresponding volume (the amount of gas about doubles as the mass is increased by about 0.02
grams). Zinc, on the other hand, increases by almost triple when the mass is tripled, but levels off after
and slowly increases in gas production, but is nowhere near magnesium and aluminum. Magnesium
and aluminum are much more reactive than zinc in this reaction; the reactivity of both metals can be
deducted from their chemical properties on the periodic table;

in the sufferings of humanity. Endo delves deep into the human condition through his characters that

Endo s story creates a spiritual journey that moves us toward religious allegory but achieves its
strength through the turbulent waters of the Ganges. Even with the droppings of animals, a odor of
burning flesh, its color of milky tea, (Endo 107) and the dust of surrounding villages, the river
becomes a fruitful image to the reader.
Endo s descriptions of Indian customs from the Japanese viewpoint are evident, through the Japanese
travelers and also through the way he uses imagery to suggest a merging of the ancient Japanese
beliefs (Koshinto) with the Indian beliefs about the Ganges and his own Christian beliefs. Koshinto
lies at the core of Japanese sensibility and forms Japanese traditional lifestyle (Mase Hasegawa 28).
Each traveler or character is searching for a greater understanding, not merely of the motivating force
behind their behavior, but of a deeper nature. In doing so, they all find themselves in direct
confrontation with their own personal desires for spiritual rejuvenation. They embark upon journeys
toward greater self understanding where each is caught up in his own process of individuation. The
river is a recurrent site motif with ritual significance, providing an idyllic destination.
Endo gives the River Ganges different metaphorical significances which we understand through the
cases of the five tourists; it is a balm for haunting memories, a remedy for loneliness, and a cure for
feelings of emptiness and worthlessness.

Divergent And Allegiant Essay
How are the effects of Divergent and Allegiant s speculation on individuals / groups discussed by the
author?
What if people divided society into groups based on what their personal virtues were, which they are
made to work on throughout their whole lives? What if you had to stay with this group your whole
life, leaving your friends and family behind forever?
This is the case for the dystopian books Divergent and Allegiant, written by Veronica Roth.
There is a lot of speculation in these books, about the portrayal of these groups, known as factions .
The main speculation is on the group of individuals known as the Divergents. In the first book of the
series, Divergent, they are portrayed to be individuals who rebel against the faction system as their

other people and accepted her own perspective, When I found out I was Divergent, I thought of it as a

2013, p. ).
As well as using perspective to speculate on the Divergents, Roth additionally uses foreshadowing
throughout Divergent, to link to the ideas explored in Allegiant.
Roth uses foreshadowing to provide the reader with an advance hint of what is to come later in the
story. She uses it mainly throughout the first book in the series to give the reader a lead in to what to

The most prominent example of foreshadowing in Divergent is when Tris questions the aptitude test;
The tests don t have to change our choices, to which her brother Caleb replies with, Don t they,

Essay about The Collected Poems of WB Yeats
Yeats, B. William. The Collected Poems of WB Yeats. New York: Macmillan, 1996. 318 The
importance of this book is that it contains some of the works of poetry which were carried out by
William Yeats. Arguably, the most salient feature in the book is the attempt at portraying the shift that
characterized Yeats in his work, so that his works are arranged almost chronologically to underscore
this standpoint. Works that depict him as a bard of the Celtic Twilight, reviving Rosicrucian symbols
and legends are the most frontal. These are followed up by works which show the shift away from
plush romanticism. The same are exhibited by the heavy presence of incantatory rhythms such as I

New York: WW Norton and Company, 1975. This poem was published in 1927 and comes out as a
form of meditation. The poem is rich in its scope as it covers sundry topics ranging from children, to
human behavior, life in the 20th century, the philosophy on life and life after death, among others.
This poem is an eight lined stanza which is heavily laden with rhymes and the use of prosaic language.
The poem has been written within the context of a visitor who has walked into a classroom under the
guidance of a kind elderly nun. The importance of this poem to this reading is that in it, the poet
addresses the dynamism that has shaped and continues to shape the civil society, progress and
modernity, as opposed to the status quo ante which predated the Civil War or the Anglo Irish War. The
importance of this poem to this reading is also seen in the fact that it betrays the political ideals that
Yeats had: the poem implicates the speaker as being a senator. It is in after 1924 that Yeats served as a
senator. This makes the poem sound like a poem which was penned down after the civil war, given
that it is written from the standpoint of a more peaceful and politically stable Ireland. Thus, the poem
is also instrumental as it lets the reader in into Yeats political orientation and leanings. Thus, the many
qualities Yeats had and the many fields he operated in, in terms of career are well confirmed by this
poem. The

Summary Of On Natural Death By Lewis Thomas
On Natural Death
In his essay On Natural Death , research pathologist, medical doctor, and biologist Lewis Thomas
attempts to console the reader about the weighty topic of death by referencing his own observations,
citing scientific facts and statistics, and using the universal fear and unknown of eternal rest. Thomas
first points to the example of the unforeseen death of an elm tree in his own backyard. The death of an
inanimate lifeform is something with which most people are familiar and probably even comfortable.
This first hand experience displays a situation in which death is quick and free of pain. It also shows
how quickly death can tranpire; in this situation, the tree appeared to be in perfect health just a week
before its sudden passing. The story of a dying mouse displays Thomas s own sorrow at the demise of
a fellow mammal and former participant in life. The reader is naturally brought to empathize with
Thomas s sentiments by his use of firsthand emotions and experiences. Thomas even calls upon the
reader to understand the feelings of the mouse itself by describing what the experience likely felt to
the mouse painless to the extent that the mouse is inclined to shrug. Another of his observations is that
of two soldiers unfortunate fatalities after being in a mortal automobile accident. This example brings
the reality of death even closer to the reader, as this time the it is experienced by human beings not
unlike the reader. This situation is akin to that

  • 2. Essay on Caffeine Effects In The Brain Caffeine Effects In The Brain Caffeine acts in a multitude of ways in the brain. The most recent studies explore the cooperative effects of adenosine and dopamine, as well as the increase in calcium in the interstitial fluid and possible accumulation of cyclic adenosine monophospate. The most popular discussions of earlier studies of caffeine demonstrate its antagonistic effects on adenosine receptors. While it has been reported that adenosine receptors are located throughout the brain, the various subtypes can be found in very specific areas. Studies have also shown that caffeine reactions in the brain are based on the localization of adenosine receptors, dopamine receptors, and the amount of caffeine. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Garrett, 1997; Myers, 1999) According to the Pacific Nueropsychiatric Institute caffeine inhibits phosphodiesterase breakdown of cyclie 3 , 5 adenosine monophosphate. (Pharmacology, caffeine, 2) Again, this occurs only in large quantities that have yet to be naturally found in vivo. (Myers, 1999) Keep in mind that if cyclic AMP had a greater than normal concentration in the synaptic cleft, it would continue to breakdown adenosine which has a depressant effect on functions in the brain. For example, adenosine in the central nervous system inhibits neurotransmitter release and depresses locomotor activity, however with higher concentrations of cyclic AMP there is less adenosine so, the effects on the biology of the brain are an enhanced neurotransmitter release, and stimulated locomotor activity (Garrett, 1997). Another way caffeine acts on the brain is indirectly through the dopamine receptors. As stated by Garrett and Griffiths (1997), Although caffeine does not bind directly to dopamine receptors a number of conflicting reports suggest that caffeine can either decrease or increase dopamine release (p.535). For example, Caffeine significantly decreases dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) levels in the striatum, hypothalamus, and frontal cortex, but increases DOPAC levels in the nucleus accumbens (p.535). Caffeine also is responsible for significant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay about The Nullification Crisis February 22, 2013 The Nullification Crisis The Nullification Crisis was a revolt by the citizens against Andrew Jackson and the Union, whereby they sought liberty and the state of being free, including various social, political, and economic privileges. This attempt to revolt against Jackson failed, and their seceding from the country was not granted. In these efforts to secede, they sought liberty and worked together as a state to gain what they believed to be free and include various privileges they rightfully have. The Nullification Crisis displayed the attempt of the citizen s to achieve the securing of the blessings of liberty, yet the citizen s attempt failed. In 1819, Andrew Jackson was elected as President of the United States. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He pleaded Henry Clay, an old friend, to draft a solution with him. Clay developed a compromise proposal, which lowered the high tariffs by ten percent over eight years. The Compromise Tariff of 1833 barely passed through Congress, but it significantly changed the tariff. These new rates were not nearly as low as the Southerners had hoped they would be, but it was a better compromise than the Force Bill had offered. South Carolina s legislature voted to recede their efforts to nullify the tariff acts, but they did attempt to nullify the Force Bill. Even though their nullification of the Force Bill was insignificant, it allowed South Carolina to feel slightly victorious. Therefore, it is apparent that it is the citizen s job to secure the blessings of liberty. The citizen s began to take action to secure their blessings of liberty prior to the Nullification Crisis, when they attempted to pass the Tariff of 1828 through Congress in hopes to aid Jackson s re election. Due to Jackson s popularity, he was re elected even without the help of the tariff. • 7. Surgical Site Infections At Hospitals, Accreditation... Surgical site infections occur when a patient experiences infection following surgery, often as a direct result of the care received in a hospital or other medical facility. While these infections can often be easily treated while the patient is still at the hospital, the incidences of these infections can have significant and lasting impacts on patients and the hospital itself, even resulting in a patient s death if the infection is not detected and treated appropriately. Since these infections occur while patients are under the care of professionals and during hospital stays, it is imperative that all involved in patient care follow procedures and policies established by the facility to reduce the risk of infections in patients. This involves not only information about surgical site infections and their prevention, but the impact of these infections on patients, hospitals, and staff members, as well as how surgical site infections impacts a facility s accreditation. The purpose of this paper is to discuss surgical site infections, the implications of their occurrences at hospitals, accreditation expectations, and outcomes related to cost and quality. • 12. Bacteria Lab Lab Report: Unknown #1 Paola Rosales 302672960 Professor Youssef INTRODUCTION: Bacteria are the smallest living organisms, they are prokaryotic and have a simple cell structure. They do not contain a nucleus, and are unicellular. Bacteria are the most abundant microorganism. They are among the earliest forms of life that appeared on earth billions of years ago. They can grow in different temperatures and many exist naturally in our human flora, such as staphylococci. Growth within different temperatures can range from 0 degrees Celsius such as psychrotrophs, to hyperthermophiles who grown best above 70 degrees Celsius (Ritchey, Exercise 16). Bacteria have many shapes, size, and multicell arrangements. The main bacteria shapes are cocci (spherical or ovoid shaped), bacilli (straight rods), coccobacillus (short rods), fusiform bacillus (rod shaped bacilli with tapered ends), vibrio (curved rods), spirillum (single spiral bacteria), and spirochete (if it is flexible and undulating). Bacteria can form multicell arrangements, such as diplococcus (two cell arrangements) (. Bacteria are usually named for their shape or multicell arrangement, but cannot be truly identified by just those characteristics (Strelkauskas, Edwards, Fanhert, Pryor, 2016). Bacteria can be classified by the way they stain. They are clear under a microscope and require staining to be seen. To stain a bacteria, one takes a dye to color the cells. Analysis Of Agatha Christie s Murder On The Orient Express After reading all evidence in Agatha Christie s Murder on the Orient Express, I strongly believe that Hector MacQueen murdered Samuel Edward Ratchett on the Orient Express for various reasons. All evidence points to Hector MacQueen where he stabbed his boss twelve different times all over his body. Hector MacQueen was Ratchett s secretary for over a year where Ratchett offered him a job while they met in Persia. To start off, MacQueen tells Hercule Poirot in his interrogation, the detective of the case, that he did not like nor trust his employer at all. The first point of evidence that points to MacQueen was that MacQueen remotely thinks that Ratchett was murdered once he was told that his Ratchett was dead, So they got him after all (Christie 49). Right after he said that I think Poirot got him quickly off guard. The second point of evidence that points to MacQueen as the murderer is the story of the murder of Daisy Armstrong. In chapter four, the readers learn that Samuel Edward Ratchett was not his real name. His real name is Cassetti, the lead of the gang that killed Daisy Armstrong. To flee America to avoid being arrested, Cassetti left the United States and changed his name to Ratchett. You must be wondering, what does this have to do with MacQueen? Fromm s thesis is that society in its having mode of existence destroys the natural world in its pursuit for knowledge and truth (plucking the flower). For example, scientists dismember natural systems to understand their function and origin. Scientists may gain knowledge, but at the price of killing or damaging the system they were observing. Overconsumption and pollution will always be a problem for as long as mankind view the natural world as something to have or to own. An antithesis to Fromm s assertion is that interfering with the natural world does not harm it (or plucking the flower will not kill it). God created the world for mankind thus mankind can do with it as they please. I offer a synthesis of both philosophies by suggesting that a passive appreciation of nature is good and is needed, but manipulating nature is also needed for scientific advancement. The effects would also be split in to time frames, whether they are short term or long term effects. There are going to be fewer positive effects in the short term but there will be more positive effects in the longer term. The negative short term effects of expanding the library would be the congestion caused by the original construction of the development. This construction would create traffic due to the closure of roads near the site of the expansions. Positive short term effects could be the opportunity of local students in Griffith University Gold Coast Campus to help with the construction planning or the design of the expansion. The markets at night would also have some short term effects also creating traffic problems throughout the campus. This would only create problems at the time of the markets are being held. There wouldn t be any negative long term effects of the markets apart from the green space not being able to be used on those nights for the future. There are numerous positives effects of the markets being held at Griffith. The positive short term effects would create a steady income for those involved in the markets. Stop Cutting The Pacific Ocean Without Plastic Analysis Stop Polluting the Pacific Ocean with Plastic If someone says that the area of the floating plastic garbage in the central North Pacific Ocean is twice the size of Texas, will you believe it? Charles Moore, an oceanographer who first came up with the idea of Great Pacific Garbage Patch , caught sight of plastic trash floating in the North Pacific Gyre when he was sailing from Los Angeles to Hawaii. I was confronted...with the sight of plastic, Moore wrote in an essay for Natural History, It seemed unbelievable, but I never found a clear spot. No matter what time of day I looked, plastic debris was floating everywhere: bottles, bottle caps, wrappers, fragments ( History Algalita ). Besides the plastic that we can see from the surface, far below the surface, more plastic exists. The plastic is slowly releasing toxic chemicals, harming the water and the marine animals, and finally flows to the human body. Plastic makes our lives more convenient, but without proper treatment, it will pollute the ocean instead; therefore, we should reduce the amount of plastic waste we produce in order to prevent further pollution to the Pacific Ocean and to protect the marine animals. ... Aluminum Vs Zinc Table 1 contains corresponding information to figure 1, as already analyzed, despite having the highest concentrated acid solution, zinc has the lowest output of gas compared to aluminum and magnesium. Looking at the trends, aluminum and magnesium have relatively steady increases of mass and corresponding volume (the amount of gas about doubles as the mass is increased by about 0.02 grams). Zinc, on the other hand, increases by almost triple when the mass is tripled, but levels off after and slowly increases in gas production, but is nowhere near magnesium and aluminum. Even with the droppings of animals, a odor of burning flesh, its color of milky tea, (Endo 107) and the dust of surrounding villages, the river becomes a fruitful image to the reader. Endo s descriptions of Indian customs from the Japanese viewpoint are evident, through the Japanese travelers and also through the way he uses imagery to suggest a merging of the ancient Japanese beliefs (Koshinto) with the Indian beliefs about the Ganges and his own Christian beliefs. Koshinto lies at the core of Japanese sensibility and forms Japanese traditional lifestyle (Mase Hasegawa 28). Each traveler or character is searching for a greater understanding, not merely of the motivating force behind their behavior, but of a deeper nature. In doing so, they all find themselves in direct confrontation with their own personal desires for spiritual rejuvenation. They embark upon journeys toward greater self understanding where each is caught up in his own process of individuation. The river is a recurrent site motif with ritual significance, providing an idyllic destination. What if people divided society into groups based on what their personal virtues were, which they are made to work on throughout their whole lives? What if you had to stay with this group your whole life, leaving your friends and family behind forever? This is the case for the dystopian books Divergent and Allegiant, written by Veronica Roth. There is a lot of speculation in these books, about the portrayal of these groups, known as factions . The main speculation is on the group of individuals known as the Divergents. As well as using perspective to speculate on the Divergents, Roth additionally uses foreshadowing throughout Divergent, to link to the ideas explored in Allegiant. Roth uses foreshadowing to provide the reader with an advance hint of what is to come later in the story. She uses it mainly throughout the first book in the series to give the reader a lead in to what to expect in the final book. The most prominent example of foreshadowing in Divergent is when Tris questions the aptitude test; The tests don t have to change our choices, to which her brother Caleb replies with, Don t they, though? New York: Macmillan, 1996. 318 The importance of this book is that it contains some of the works of poetry which were carried out by William Yeats. Arguably, the most salient feature in the book is the attempt at portraying the shift that characterized Yeats in his work, so that his works are arranged almost chronologically to underscore this standpoint. Works that depict him as a bard of the Celtic Twilight, reviving Rosicrucian symbols and legends are the most frontal. These are followed up by works which show the shift away from plush romanticism. The same are exhibited by the heavy presence of incantatory rhythms such as I will arise and go... and go to Innisfree . The same is seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem is rich in its scope as it covers sundry topics ranging from children, to human behavior, life in the 20th century, the philosophy on life and life after death, among others. This poem is an eight lined stanza which is heavily laden with rhymes and the use of prosaic language. The poem has been written within the context of a visitor who has walked into a classroom under the guidance of a kind elderly nun. The importance of this poem to this reading is that in it, the poet addresses the dynamism that has shaped and continues to shape the civil society, progress and modernity, as opposed to the status quo ante which predated the Civil War or the Anglo Irish War. The importance of this poem to this reading is also seen in the fact that it betrays the political ideals that Yeats had: the poem implicates the speaker as being a senator. It is in after 1924 that Yeats served as a senator. This makes the poem sound like a poem which was penned down after the civil war, given that it is written from the standpoint of a more peaceful and politically stable Ireland. Thus, the poem is also instrumental as it lets the reader in into Yeats political orientation and leanings. Thus, the many qualities Yeats had and the many fields he operated in, in terms of career are well confirmed by this poem. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Summary Of On Natural Death By Lewis Thomas On Natural Death In his essay On Natural Death , research pathologist, medical doctor, and biologist Lewis Thomas attempts to console the reader about the weighty topic of death by referencing his own observations, citing scientific facts and statistics, and using the universal fear and unknown of eternal rest. Thomas first points to the example of the unforeseen death of an elm tree in his own backyard. The death of an inanimate lifeform is something with which most people are familiar and probably even comfortable. This first hand experience displays a situation in which death is quick and free of pain. It also shows how quickly death can tranpire; in this situation, the tree appeared to be in perfect health just a week before its sudden passing. The story of a dying mouse displays Thomas s own sorrow at the demise of a fellow mammal and former participant in life. The reader is naturally brought to empathize with Thomas s sentiments by his use of firsthand emotions and experiences. Thomas even calls upon the reader to understand the feelings of the mouse itself by describing what the experience likely felt to the mouse painless to the extent that the mouse is inclined to shrug. Another of his observations is that of two soldiers unfortunate fatalities after being in a mortal automobile accident. This example brings the reality of death even closer to the reader, as this time the it is experienced by human beings not unlike the reader. This situation is akin to that ...
