World Wide Consortium
World Wide Consortium
Tim Bernes Lee in 1989 created the World Wide Web, and in 1994 he and a few others established the
World Wide Consortium. (a) The World Wide Consortium s mission is to lead the world wide web to
its full potential by developing protocols and guidelines that ensure long term growth for the web (a).
This is an international organization with a variety of members making up the organization. They all
have a common goal which is to make the web standardized with rules and principles, and to date they
have made over eighty recommendations.(a)
The World Wide Consortium has had three long standing goals. These are to provide universal access,
a semantic web, and a web of trust. Universal access means to ... Show more content on

The great bulk of the world s websites are currently unsuccessful in providing access for people with
disabilities. (E) A great majority of disabled people have difficulty because of clutter, complex web
arrangements, and unclear navigation tools. Americans with Disabilities has not yet taken any
company to court over unfair equal access law, however the commission is ready to take action and
they would have a good chance in court.(F) Any company that chooses to not change their website to
accommodate people with disabilities could be sued under the Disability Discrimination Act.(F) On
the bright side studies show that when you increase accessibility of your site for people with
disabilities, you also increase it by about fifty percent for all other users.(F)
Coming up with a way for people who are blind to access the web has been a major challenge. In
1999, the organization developed computer programming guidelines so that people who are blind can
have access to the internet; nevertheless these guidelines are currently only followed if the company
wants too. A few countries have made these guidelines the law, leading this practice is Britain. In the
US these guidelines and recommendations are only required if you belong to a federal company or if
you work on government contracts. Other companies are encouraged to follow the guidelines because
they will benefit the company and may avoid future law

Puerto Rico Territory
Why do so many people argue about how Puerto Rico became a territory? Several historians believe
that Puerto Rico was made a US Territory by The Foraker Act of 1900. Other historians say that The
Jones Shafroth Act of 1917 made it a US Territory. Some might also say it was World War I. This
essay will tell you about, Puerto Rico, all three things, and also which one is truly correct. Before
starting to truly explain things, let me explain how this whole thing started.
At the beginning is how Puerto Rico was discovered. Puerto Rico was found by Christopher
Columbus on his second voyage to the Americas, when he was trying to find his fort on Hispaniola
called La Navidad which was destroyed. Then Juan Ponce de Léon stumbled across Puerto Rico again
while on his search to find the mystical Fountain of Youth . Then for the next three hundred years,
Spain will rule Puerto Rico with an iron fist until 1898 when the Spanish American War broke out and
the USA got Puerto Rico for themselves. The Spanish American War was a three month war that
started on April 25, 1898 and ended on August 12, 1898. The war was started when the USS Maine
blew up on February 15, 1898 by a supposed underwater mine. The Americans blamed the Spanish
even though there is no evidence leading to that the USS Maine was blown up by an underwater mine.

A Complex Adaptive System ( Cas )
Organizations and businesses are now seen as a function of increased specialization. Technology has
become the order of the day where more and more businesses are heading towards that direction to
have a competitive edge within the industry they best identify with. In light of this, conflicts are
sometimes very challenging to comprehend, and theorists have also questioned the nature of the whole
system to which all these complicating factors contribute. Many experts and scholars have argued that
all these developments are characterized by a Complex Adaptive System (CAS). Most organizations
are engulfed in planning activities such as formalized planning sessions that are of a strategic nature
by design and to do this; business leaders tend to look for business intelligence, knowledge
management and other methods that will enable them to have active planning sessions in real time to
match the ever growing system. What then is Complex Adaptive System? To best define CAS, we
need to understand what a system is. A system is defined as an assembly of elements hooked together
to produce a whole in which the attributes of the elements contribute to a behavior of the whole (
Complex Adaptive Systems, n.d.). Examples of systems include the human body, galaxies,
ecosystems, airplanes and computers. CAS is the study of natural systems and how they interact,
adapt, and survive over time (Evans, 2015). By this definition, it is fair to say that organizations
cannot ignore the

Katherine Tekakwitha Research Paper
Tekakwitha, Katherine Katherine Tekakwitha, known to Catholics as St. Kateri Tekakwitha and called
by them the Lily of the Mohawks, was born at Ossernenon (now Auriesville, New York) in 1656. Her
mother, Tagaskouita, was an Alqonquin native American and a Christian. Her father, Kenneronkwa,
was a Mohawk chief and followed traditional native practices. She received her given name of
Tekakwitha (which means she who bumps into things ) after a bout with smallpox when she was four
damaged her eyesight and scarred her face. The epidemic ravaged the Mohawk population around
Ossernon until 1663 and claimed both her parents and brother. Tekawitha was adopted by an aunt and
her husband, chief of the Turtle clan. The survivors relocated to Caughnawaga ( wild water in
Mohawk) two miles upstream on the Mohawk river. In 1666 the French destroyed Mohawk villages in

Her baptism precipitated severe hostility, and so in 1677 Kateri departed for the Catholic native
settlement named for St. Francis Xavier at Kahnawake (an alternative spelling of Caughnawaga but a
different location than the original village) situated on the St. Lawrence river somewhat south of
Montreal. Kateri received her first holy communion there Christmas Day 1677. On March 25, 1679,
the Feast of the Annunciation, Kateri made a vow of perpetual virginity in emulation of the virgin

The Portrait As A Young Man Theme Religion
Since the beginning of time to today authors have used religion as a common theme in their writings.
It is considered an elusive force, which means something different to everybody. In literature, the
central theme religion usually creates the main character in the novel. Religion does not change
characters but help them find a higher power spiritually or perhaps to cope with deeper issues. It
reveals the true identity of characters personalities and if there the hypocrite of society. In the various
novels The Portrait as a Young Man , Candide , Crime and Punishment and Native Son the authors use
the common theme religion to change and form the main characters of their novel by changing society,
themselves and their religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is where we see Stephan confessing that he knows that there is a God but he does not understand
how God works and what his purpose is. HE is still developing his religion believed but they are
slowing forming his character and who he becomes later in the novel. Stephan again quotes: He knelt
before the altar with his classmates, holding the altar cloth with them over a living rail of hands. His
hands were trembling and his soul trembled as he heard the priest pass with the ciborium from
communicant to communicant.
Corpus Domini nostril,Could it be? He knelt there sinless and timid; and he would hold upon his
tongue the host and God would enter his purified body.
In vitam eternam. Amen....The ciborium had come to him ( 5.2.16)(Joyce).
Stephan understands the importance of the sacraments which is a Christian symbol. Stephan takes the
Christian metaphor of the sacraments representing Christ literally and starts to understand the concept
of transubstantiation. In the final chapter Stephan exemplifies the life of an artist through his
individuality seclusion. Religion is the last thing on Stephen s mind as he formulates his theses on art,
aesthetic beauty, ideal pity and ideal terror. While these theses are important to the continuity of the
novel, religion does not resurface until much later when he is talking to Cranely and says

Richard Nixon Checkers Speech Analysis
Guilty or Innocent:Richard Nixon s Checkers Richard Nixon successfully used Pathos throughout his
Checkers Speech to appeal to the emotions of the American people. Nixon, more commonly known
for being one of the most hated presidents that the United States has endured, is exceptionally
brilliant. He used technology to help him plead his innocence, as he televised his big Checkers Speech
for the entire United States to hear. While being accused of accepting millions of dollars and putting
them into a slush fund , Nixon stood firm and exclaimed to the public, I want to make this particularly
clear that no contributor to this fund, no contributor to any of my campaigns, has ever received any
consideration that he would not have received as an ordinary constituent (par. 6)that he had no part in
anything fraudulent. However he does admit to taking one gift his Cocker Spaniel named Checkers.
Other than Checkers, which he receives nor gives any favoritism for accepting, he is an honest,
hardworking man. He stated that he did not care for the opinion of the public I just want to say this,
right now, that regardless of what they say about it, we re gonna keep it (par. 26) because his children
fell in love with it, and he couldn t bring himself to take it away from them. Throughout Nixon s
speech, he presents the illusion that he is in fact broke , thus appealing to poverty. He gives multiple
examples of his financial situations by stating, I owe 4500 dollars to the Riggs Bank in Washington,
D.C., with interest 4 and 1/2 percent. I owe 3500 dollars to my parents, and the interest on that loan,
which I pay regularly, because it s the part of the savings they made through the years they were
working so hard I pay regularly 4 percent interest. And then I have a 500 dollar loan, which I have on
my life insurance. (par. 23) which also establishes credibility with his audience. He also says, But Pat
and I have the satisfaction that every dime that we ve got is honestly ours. I should say this, that Pat
doesn t have a mink coat. But she does have a respectable Republican cloth coat, and I always tell her
she d look good in anything (par. 25) showing that money is not the reason he is running

By starting with which type of customer to target, the organization can be more focused on its tactics.
Alternatives
1. Do nothing. There is not much of a pro to this solution, because by doing no sort of action will
either result in the business failing and closing down, or that could cost the marketing senior vice
president her position. 2. Reward Program for businesses. By instituting a reward program with
businesses, it will allow business travelers to stay at the hotel for a discounted price for Sunday
through Thursday lodging through his or her place of employment. Instead of attempting to find the
best rate. The company knows that when an employee goes to this city, he or she will stay at the
Amber Inn and the company books it for the employee. This will increase the business traveler base,
which is already predominant. However, this will decrease the overall revenues for the organization. 3.
Increase weekend prices. By increasing lodging prices on the weekends, it will not harm the business
traveler base, and increase profits for the personal and vacation/pleasure areas. This could adversely
affect the number of guests staying at the hotel on the weekends and drive the weekend revenue
stream down. 4. Increase average daily room rate to be more toward industry average. Since the
survey says that only 36.6% stayed at the hotel based on price and the fact that majority of business
travelers had the rooms paid for by the

Is The Combined Prolonged Exposure ( Pe ) And Cognitive...
The research question that I am interested in answering is whether a combined prolonged exposure
(PE) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) approach is useful in treating veterans with post
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The ideal study would include four groups: one to receive PE, one
to receive CPT, one to receive both PE and CPT, and one that does not receive an intervention. The
groups would consist of an equal 50/50 male to female ratio (half of the participants would be male,
half would be female) to control for gender. The participants would be contacted based on information
gathered about veterans with PTSD by the local U.S. Department of Veteran s Affairs offices in
Orange County, California.
In this scenario, the independent variable is the type of treatment and the values are the treatment
groups. The dependent variables are the patient s measurable PTSD symptoms, including frequency of
dissociative reactions, recurrent distressing dreams, negative alterations in cognitions and mood, and
marked alterations in arousal and reactivity (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The
demographic variables in this study are age and ethnicity. The control variables are gender, geographic
location, and PTSD.
Measurement of Variables Identified Variable. The Posttraumatic Cognitions Inventory (PTCI) is a
scale used to measure a person s trauma related to their thoughts and beliefs to determine if they have
PTSD (Foa, Ehlers, Clark, Tolin, Orsillo, 1999). For the

The Republic by Plato Essay
The Republic by Plato
At the beginning of Book I, we are introduced to the narrator, Socrates, and his audience of peers. We
are made aware, however, of Socrates special charm and intellectual gifts through the insistence of
Polemarchus and the other men for the pleasure of his company. The tone is casual and language and
modes of expression rather simple, as is commonly the case in Plato s dialogues. However, Plato s
unaffected style serves at least two purposes. For one it belies the complexity and elevation of the
ideas, thus it is in accord with Socrates characteristic irony itself, which draws the quot;fool quot; in
by feigned ignorance, only so that the master can show that he does not know what he thinks he
knows. And second, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates response (another question) clarifies his epistemology: quot;how can anyone answer who
knows, and says that he knows, just nothing?? quot; What Socrates knows is incommunicable other
than to say that he knows nothing. His philosophical speculations embody a process rather than a
philosophy. That is, Socrates method is in accord with the nature of inquiry and of intellectual
exploration itself: he is his style. And, acutely aware of this fact, Socrates repels every temptation
toward dogma, characterized by Thrasymachus complaints.
The second definition of justice, obedience to the interest of the stronger, is Thrasymachus veiled
justification for tyranny (might is right), and is foreshadowed in his indecorous demand for payment.
He is portrayed in sharp contrast to Socrates, who suggests that the stronger may not always know his
own interest; therefore, at times, it is necessary for the weaker to disobey him. Socrates then
successfully upsets the definition by demonstrating that, insofar as his role is an art, a ruler acts in the
best interest of his subjects, as exemplified by the physician for his patients and the captain for his
crew.
Still unresolved, the debate moves into a second stage, where tyranny, or perfect injustice, and
benevolent rule, or perfect justice, are evaluated against one another. Again, through a series of
examples, Socrates prevails the unjust man s pride and ambition are shown to be weaknesses,

The Sociological Imagination Summary
C. Wright Mills The Sociological Imagination brings forth a way of thinking where in order to
understand the biography of a distinct individual or the overall history of society, the two entities must
be understood as one reciprocal relationship. He states that one cannot be understand without the
other, and it is a thought that emphasizes how interlaced and dependent an individual is of society, and
a society is of the individuals that compose it. As a result, readers are invited in moments of self
evaluation of their own respective lives, their roles in society, and how society has shaped them,
through a new way of thinking. At first, the idea seems a bit overwhelming, especially considering his
opening paragraph that emphasizes a key

Chechnya and its People Essay
Chechnya and its People
The ongoing civil war between the semi autonomous republic of Chechnya and Russia has
dramatically caught the attention of the world a world that perceives the conflict primarily through the
distorted lens of Russian propaganda, and the contradicting images of Chechen suffering on the
independent media. If the West seems impartial or even indifferent to the Chechen conflict, it is
because there is little understanding of this people, of their struggle, or of the vast complexities of the
greater North Caucasian region in which the Chechens are a part. This lack of understanding extends
to the hazy Western perception of the role of Islam in Chechen society. The broad generalizations that
have been made by those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Villari states, linguistic difficulties were a major problem in studying Eurasia at the turn of the
century. Today, the task of studying the six North Caucasian states is complicated by the several
dialects of the Nakh language (one of which the Chechens speak), as well as the Batsbii and Ingush
languages. In many cases as in the Chechen and Ingush peoples one dialect of Nakh is more closely
related to the Ingush language than of other Nakh dialects (the Chechens and Ingush share forty
percent of their vocabulary). Furthermore, the Chechens themselves lacked a written script until the
1920 s. Up until that time the only literacy was of a few men who could read the Arabic Koran; and
therefore the only collective histories were oral, increasing the reliance of the historian upon the
Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Russian accounts of their encounters with the Chechens.

Despite the linguistic differences, there is a great cultural unity among the North

Edelstein Cosmetics Case Study
Order 3 Edelstein Cosmetics Delivers Customer Service Tips For A Busy Office Setting
Anyone who has ever sat waiting in a busy office knows that it can be a tedious occasion that gets on
your nerves. What makes it worse is when the people on the other side of that equation, the office
workers, seem to show little concern for what s going on with the people waiting. This is a common
problem wherever people have to wait for an appointment of some kind. The wait becomes practically
interminable if the setting is inhospitable. And the bad impression it leaves can make it so you never
want to go back.
That s why the workers in the offices of service providers have to be always on the ball when it comes
to their customer service efforts, lest the office in which they work gets less crowded for all the wrong
reasons. People who have to wait for a decent period of time can get extremely testy, which means
that the patience of the workers can be tested in turn. But the extra effort that the employees
demonstrate can make the difference between a satisfied customer and a frustrated one.
At Edelstein Cosmetics, a busy medical center in Toronto specializing in cosmetic surgery and
treatments, that kind of extra effort is par for the course. But, according to CEO XXX, it takes more
than that to give patients in a sensitive situation the kind of tender loving care that eases their nerves
and makes them feel comfortable. What our staff concentrates on is a kind of proactive approach to
dealing with our patients, XXX says. If you let it get to the point where the patients are coming to you
because of their frustrations, you re already at a loss. You have to search out the problems and issues
patients are having instead of waiting for them to be presented to you, and that includes when you re
talking to them on the phone or by e mail, when they re in the waiting room, or when they re at a
treatment or consultation.
So what are some of the ways that this proactive approach might manifest itself? The following ideas,
followed by the Edelstein Cosmetics staff, might give you notions for your own busy office.

Descriptive Essay About My Friend
Shannon L. Alder says, Beauty is not who you are on the outside, it is the wisdom and time you gave
away to save another struggling soul like you. My friend Madison Smith is eighteen years old. She is
five feet four inches tall and has light brown eyes. Her soft, dirty blond, wavy hair goes a few inches
past her shoulders. She has smooth, fair white skin. Her complexion is perfect with her face free of
make up. The style of her clothing is very modern with her own unique touch. Singing is one activity
that she is seen doing often, with her voice being both gentle and strong. Riding horses is another
activity she is skillful at. None of these things, however, do I consider important when describing her.
Her personality can be summed up in just one word, generous. She gives gifts, advice, encouragement,
time, and inspiration without any hesitation. First, distributing gifts is a moment Madison thoroughly
enjoys. At Christmas time she likes to hand out presents exceedingly more than actually receiving
them. Whether she is getting a present for one of her four sisters or for a friend, she takes time
deciding what she wants to buy them. This is because she cares. It is not merely an action that she
does under obligation, but a choice that she finds joy in. Advice is another aspect where she is
exceptional at giving. Every Wednesday night at church we get a chance to talk. I can tell her
whatever situation I am dealing with and she always gives me guidance. Even if what she

Social Security Goals
===The goals of the Social Security program is to bring monetary assistance to specific and certain
groups such as the elderly, disabled and widows. The goals of the social security program, as stated in
their government page are, to keep American families from becoming destitute in health or in the
essentials of life. We do not want a program which, alone, would enable anybody to live in luxury; but
we do want a program that will assure every family in the Nation enough to live on in times of
adversity. (ssa.gov) To learn about one of America s most successful program it is important as a
reader to know that this program has been around for 80 years, since August 14, 1935 when President
Franklin Roosevelt signed and made Social Security ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Organizations such as the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) have a very big influence
among the elderly and the policy making that takes place. The reason as to why this is a strength is
solely because when the AARP steps in for the elderly they are not only representing the elderly which
are their primary goal but the disable and widows, two other groups of people that highly benefit from
the social security program. As you where able to learn during the course, primarily in chapter 17
Social Policy, the AARP pays close attention, when congress considers changes in programs that
affect the elderly. (We The People) These organizations devote their time and strengths in order to
defend the Social Security Program; many times it was the AARP that stopped reforms from
happening and affecting the Social Security Program such as in times like 2005 and 2009 when the
AARP was either against or for health reforms being added into the Social Security Program. The
weaknesses of the Social Security program could primarily be that economically the Social Security
Program in several occasions was at risk of financially collapsing ( Peter Ferrara) If the Social
Security Program were ever to fail this would mean thousand of beneficiaries would run the risk of not
having any financial sustainability. In Peter Ferrera s article, The Future of Social Security as

Abstract
In today s information technology age, many organizations are facing the security attacks. These kinds
of attacks occur to two different forms which can be classified as external attacks and internal attacks.
Organizations can mitigate the external attacks of implementing firewall, anti virus and other defense
perimeters but internal attacks are even hard to identify. Internal attacks take place in terms of
employees negligence in their work performance, theft and stealing the organizational assets and
selling to competitors, script kiddies, eaves dropping and spying other employees, etc. Even latest
technologies are not being able to identify and detect those types of attacks. Therefore organizations
have to implement security education, awareness and training program to educate the internal
employees to minimize the risk of insider attacks. This paper further discuss about how security
education, training and awareness program helps to mitigate the insider attacks and why it is important
to organization.

Women s Rights During The Seneca Falls
My dearest James,
Being at the convention in Seneca Falls, New York has caused me to look back on our time in
England. I had such a wonderful time on my first trip abroad to England with you. The mistreatment
the other women and I faced not being allowed to fully participate showed me the important issues of
women s rights. Despite the hardships we faced at the General Anti slavery Convention meeting
Elizabeth Stanton was wonderful. I believe working with her will help my cause and determination to
have equality for all women. Her work at this convention is truly inspirational. Her initiating and
desire for women suffrage is powerful and shows her great leadership. She also started with

will see this document in a positive and empowering light. I hope this first convention will inspire
other all around to seek out the unjust ways currently. I hope one day our wonderful children will
support and follow in my footsteps of supporting the rights of women. There is no matter of
misconception regarding the document s demands put further by our needs. Although I fear people
will not take the document seriously, and will look badly towards the movement. I think my next
venture will be starting to write a book to show the need for equal rights of women. I can not wait to

Museum Project
The Louvre:
The Louvre is the museum I researched, and Virgin of the Rocks is the painting I decided to choose.
The Louvre Museum is the largest in the world, and is situated in Paris, France. Around 35,000 objects
are exhibited over an area of around 40 square miles. The Louvre is also the second most visited
museum in the world, trailing only the Palace Museum in China. The louvre has more than 9 million
visitors annually. (Louvre, 2016)
The museum opened to the public on August 10, 1793. At this point it only had a little over 500
paintings in its possession. Most of these works were either royal art, or confiscated church property.
During the years of 1796 until 1801, the Louvre was closed due to maintenance and construction.
Eventually, this collection was added to with contributions during the reigns of Louis XVIII and
Charles X. Furthermore, the Second French Empire helped to contribute a further 20,000 pieces to the
Louvre. (Louvre, 2016)

Wizard of Oz Narrative Report

Story and Plot
In a narrative film, a plot is considered all visible and audible elements present in a film, in essence
the film in its entirety including nondiegetic images. In The Wizard of Oz, the plot begins with
Dorothy (Judy Garland), a young farm girl from Kansas who dreams of escaping to somewhere over
the rainbow without troubles and torment for her dog Toto from a horrible neighbour Miss Gulch
(Margaret Hamilton). During a tornado she is hit on the head and is transported to the World of Oz
where she meets characters transformed from her Kansas life at home, meeting three companions who
are all missing a quality that they wish to gain. She goes on a journey with them all to see the Wizard

Oz is shot in bright and vibrant colours, which pertains to the idea of a magical land that appears very
opposed to the dull and colourless real world of Kansas, assisting on taking the viewer on the journey
over the rainbow . This goal oriented plot in The Wizard of Oz follows a pattern of development that
encourages the viewer to expect Dorothy to reach her desired goal. The viewer then sees each action
of Dorothy s to be a progress of this desire to go home to Kansas.
The film is brought to a climax when the Dorothy and her friends return to visit the Wizard after
destroying the Wicked Witch of the West, of which he had requested. During this scene it is revealed
that the Wizard is in fact a fraud, an ordinary but clever man who although as no powers, still fulfils
the expectations of the story. He gives Scarecrow, Tinman and the Cowardly Lion the answers they
seek by giving them the self confidence to recognise they had the qualities which they were looking
for all along and he presents them with some token external symbols to represent this.
In the final scenes and formal resolution of the film, which is shot in sepia tones creating a parallelism
with Kansas on the opening scene, Dorothy attains her goal of returning home, waking up in her own
bedroom surrounded by friends and family from her real life, therefore fulfilling the

Anarchist Communism Like Me Analysis
To be quite honest, I don t have much understanding of the election but knowing Hilary Clinton and
Donald Trump are running for president. Although from hearing and from reading articles and what
they say on TV I believe I relate more to Hillary. In relation to my political compass, I am an
Anarchist Communism, which is the lower left corner of the quadrant and is described as someone
with more commitment to each other. This is similar to Hillary s political views than Donald Trump s,
as Hillary believed which I quote when unions are strong, families are strong and America is strong ,
which I agree with 100% as we need each other. As a society we need each other to help make a better

Analysis Of The Movie Facing Death
Facing Death is a compelling documentary on, oftentimes, the final journey patients and their families
will venture through together in life. The documentary seeks to capture how the patients and their
families respond to the inevitability of death. The film includes families who respond to the issue by
allowing their family member, the patient, to pass through the door of death without aggressive care,
while there are yet other families who insist on everything being done to delay the moment of death.
This topic of fighting death is attributed with producing much debate. On one hand are those who do
not see the point of fighting death, however, on the other hand, there are those who believe that
delaying death and staying alive is what ought to be done. Personally, from what I understand of either
party, I think that I am a part of the later party. In addition, this issue naturally delves into what one
believes occurs after death, as it is an issue dealing directly with death. This also compels me to view
this topic from the viewpoint of the later party. One philosophy that people may take on the topic of
delaying the moment of death is that it is pointless and should not be delayed beyond reason. From
what I have observed, people of this philosophy do not protest against emergency care. Rather, I think
that they would only disapprove of the aggressive care that may lessen quality of life in the patients.
For example, if a patient is being sustained by a respirator, but

New Harmony Research Paper
I have lived in New Harmony, Indiana since I turned three. New Harmony easily remains one of the
smallest towns in the state. Although New Harmony became my hometown, I was born in
Indianapolis; it is scary to wonder about who I would be if I had grown up in the largest city in the

Roe Vs Wade Abortion Research Paper
In Roe vs. Wade abortion was deemed not only legal but morally acceptable. One might be surprised
to know that not only this decision but our entire outlook on life is influenced and shaped by a cultural
ideology. These ideologies serve as a lense through which our entire life is tinted. While not all
ideologies are destructive, the real harm is done when on can not identify it and evaluate its morals
and principles individually. This paper will seek to explore how how secular humanism extends to
abortion, why this is detrimental, and how Christianity provides a better ideology.

Christianity lays out those rules so that there is no dispute about what is moral. Under a biblical
ideology we must acknowledge the sacredness of human life in the likeness of God. In Jeremiah 1 and
psalm 139, it tells us that God know us while in the womb and and has an active part in our creation.
And in Exodus 21 God commands the penalty for someone who causes the death of a baby in the
womb the same as for someone who commits murder. With this in mind, what should be the proper
christian response to abortion. This author believes that our actions should parallel those of the ancient
romans christians. When the romans would leave their unwanted infants in the desert, they would go,

Argumentative Essay On Obesity
For many years now, obesity has been an issue that has plagued our country with its effect on our
people. From the increasing difficulty to get good healthcare, to the monumental amount of fattening
snacks that have cultivated themselves into our diets. Throughout our media, we have seen countless
ways in which the human body can look good, bad, look better, or look worse. Most of which would
ignore or makeup, health claims just to come off as scientific. Along with what s considered as
desirable, that sought out notion has and will continue to change. Articles, books, songs, movies, and
magazines have left many Americans feeling pulled in multiple directions on how to take care of their
bodies as well as how they should look. Leading to body issues, radical or hateful opinions, and
possibly health problems. Many studies, book, papers, and social experiments on obesity are
developed to clear up some confusion towards eating and weight gain, of which add their own
informed opinions and facts to brighten our previous sphere of knowledge on the subject. Some of
which are proven biased or false based on opposing opinions or facts but, for the most part, add to the
conversation. So with this much information out there and with many of them contradicting
themselves, one may ask internally What is the right thing to do for me? , or What should I believe? ,
and those are valid questions. Does one look at what science says that day or go with what they feel is
healthy? With these

Essay about Life Changing Trip
In the summer of 2006 I was inspired to do something that inherently would never have even crossed
my mind. I was born and bred to be risk averse. My parents, the resolute material providers that they
are, taught me not to fend for myself, but rather to avoid confrontation altogether. Their eastern culture
centric and old fashioned way of child rearing has had a profound effect on the way I lived my life.
However, their penchant for negative reinforcement and their inability to show physical affection
never impeded me on having a fulfilling and moderately successful life. One great void, or what I
perceived as such, was my lack of worldly experience. I was eligible to apply for a US passport for at

I often wonder what type of person I would have been had I stayed in Taiwan and grew up without the

having spent most of my formative years trying to be like everyone else around me, I never allowed
my inner self to grow. I was never encouraged by my parents to be inquisitive, to explore the
unknown, and to dare to be different. I have no doubt they were all of those things themselves,
because they are both extraordinary persons, having achieved measurable success by capturing the
American Dream. When I sat down with them over Thanksgiving break, I interviewed them and
confirmed that what they wanted was the best for me The path of least resistance (1) and they felt
obliged to provide that path by shielding and guiding me away from the unknown, even though they
endured and prospered from their worldly experiences. In 2006 I finally decided to take a chance and

aversive nature, but not in 2006. With little consultation and input from my parents I took that leap of
faith. Coinciding with this major decision was a dear friend s wedding in London in the

Should There Be Allowed To Prayer In School
People who are Christians and like to spread the word of God don t like that they can t spread God at

Public Media And The Media During The Vietnam War
The role public media played in the Vietnam war was unprecedented: television brought live images
even video clips to Americans sitting room, photographs and reports from the war front brought the
latest news of the battles, documentaries and films depicted the sensational stories from the war and
war heroes. Bearing so many social influences, medias were somewhat blamed for being responsible
for the loss of war by many historians. Most of them attributed the responsibility to the television
which undermined the political and military efforts, and to the journalists and broadcasters who
opposed the war finally led to the burst of domestic anti war sentiments. But that is not true. (New
American Nation) With eloquent supporting evidence, U.S. domestic medias during the Vietnam war
was not the major contributor to the cease fire and the loss of the Vietnam because they pertain
supportive biases within reports in general. Also for their effort of postponing yet hampering the
transfer of sensitive reports to the public under government censorship. Lastly for the ineffectiveness
of reports in changing public opinion shown in the poll. Media during war time usually have biases,
those during Vietnam war had no exception. While many people perceive the media s biases to be
opposing the war, against military authority, revealing the vile practice under the surface, newspapers
and journalists before 1968 was almost supportive to the efforts war per a military historian Ronald

Examples Of Dialect In Their Eyes Were Watching God

Differences Between Evangelical And Liberal And Neo...
OOver the centuries, as some Christians grew more and more doubtful about the possibility of ancient
orthodox beliefs in the contemporary, critical world. Could they preach the old, old story in a new,
new world in which the way of thinking was supposedly more sophisticated than in the early,
medieval or Reformation worlds? Would the modern world accept traditional beliefs like the Trinity,
the unity of Jesus in two natures, the total wickedness of humans and the strict, substitutionary
atonement (Bingham, p. 150)? In the paper I will compare and contrast Evangelical, Liberal, and Neo
Orthodox views as it relates to scriptures. Next in this paper will discuss analyze the strengths and
weaknesses of each of the three movements.
The term evangelical comes from the Greek, meaning the good news or the gospel. the evangelical
faith focuses on the good news of salvation brought to sinners by Jesus Christ. Evangelicals have five
convictions are at the base of the faith of those associated with the movement. First, they believe that
the Bible is the supreme authority for faith and practice. Second, they believe in the essential of new

work of Christ. Fourth, they believe in the pressing need to evangelize the world. Fifth, they believe
that the church is a community of believers in dwelt by the Holy Spirit (Voskuil).

Hypothesis: Extensive viewing of television violence causes children to behave in aggressive or
harmful ways to others.
Children model behavior they see in the media, she wrote in 1993. If kids don t see the consequences
of violence, it teaches them that violence doesn t cause serious harm. When heroes use violence it
sends a message that violence is an appropriate way to respond to problems.
Ever since TV has been introduced into the homes, parents, teacher and psychologists have been

The Coordinated Management Of Meaning Theory
The Coordinated Management of Meaning theory (CMM) is a theory that is intriguing to me
personally because it is unlike any of the previous theories we have read about or talked about it. It is
the only theory so far that has actual steps to evaluate communication between two people. The CMM
theory has six building blocks to evaluate communication: content (what is said), speech act (the way
the content is interpreted), episode (what is inside and outside an interaction), relationships (scripted
way we interact with others) , autobiography (individuals view of himself or herself), and cultural
patterns (understanding of different cultures or societies when the content was said). This CMM
theory is viewed through the determinism human nature because the theory ... Show more content on

The man that I did not know felt that if I were to say that it would be confrontational and he would be
ready to fight over those words. He said the reason he would feel this way is because he was raised if
someone was say words like that to him, it was viewed as a testament to his manhood. His facial
expression changed from open minded to confused. The woman had a similar reaction to the man. She
had a very confused look on her face as well when I asked the question. She said she would feel very
lost and somewhat offended by the comment I made. The reason why is she said that she does not
know me well enough and she would think that there is no reason for me to hate her. The female
trainer said she would feel confronted as well as being confused and uncomfortable if I were to say
that to her. The reason being is she would feel that I would be coming off as mean because of the type
of person I am from her viewpoint which I thought was very interesting. Her facial expression had
confusion on it as well. My coach said he would feel like I am joking because of the relationship we

The Importance Of The Human Genome Project
Building off of the work conducted by the Human Genome Project to sequence the entire human
genome, the ENCODE Project seeks to delineate the function of the elements identified within the
project. Through the collaboration of many different institutions, scientists, and laboratories, the
ENCODE Project has been able to identify and assign functions to numerous, including previously
unstudied, elements within the genome and further genome wide understanding beyond just that of
protein coding sequences. Utilizing different biological assays, scientists systematically mapped areas
of transcription, chromatin structure, histone modification, and transcription factor association
(ENCODE Project Consortium 2012). ENCODE focused on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, it also illuminated the gaps in understanding that still exist, such as organizational and
mechanistic features. The large amount of data covering numerous cell types from the ENCODE
Project creates a resource to be used in the studies of genetic disorders and illnesses and provide
testable hypotheses for experimental analysis. ENCODE focused on a limited number of cell types
and factors. Future studies could further understanding of the genome and potentially fill in the gaps
by expanding the number of cell types and factors examined (ENCODE Project Consortium 2012).
Discussion
The ENCODE Project seeks to determine the functionality of the elements of the human genome.
ENCODE has their own definition of functionality, which includes any discrete genome segment that
encodes a defined product or displays a reproducible biochemical signature. With the rapidly
degrading definition of the gene in recent years due to insights from projects like ENCODE and the
discovery of pervasive genomic transcription, the ENCODE definition of functionality could be the
key to determining the new definition of a gene. Historically, a gene indicated a piece of DNA which
ultimately had a protein product,

Travis Hirschi s Theory Of Immigrants And Social Control...
Immigrants and Social Control Theory
For years, society has attempted to come up with reasons as to why immigrants are involved in
criminal activity at a higher rate than native born Americans. Some point to the fact that immigrants
tend to face acculturation and assimilation problems while the majority of native born Americans do
not. Some even speculate it is because immigrants tend to establish themselves in disorganized
neighborhoods that are characterized by cultural, social or biological differences which are all often
associated with crime. This relationship between immigrants and crime has been in debate for over
100 years and continues to be a controversial issue.
During the 19th century, rapid population was brought on by the migration of outsiders, notably
foreign born ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is where the social theory comes in to play and approaches this relationship in a different way.
Developed in 1969 by Travis Hirschi, social control theory attempts to answer the ultimate question of
why we all do not commit crimes. Social control theories are theories of socialization in which they
consider the extent to which individuals learn certain habits, attitudes and perspectives of a society.
Hirschi suggests that individuals who have a strong and flexible bond to society will be far less likely
to engage in criminal activities or delinquent behaviors, whereas those who have weak bonds will. In
other words, the health of a group is determined by how well all the members of that group conform to
the group s norms. Sociologist Emile Durkheim explains it best in his example of a society of saints,
where although each saint was law abiding, there would still be group norms that would separate the
better saints from the less devoted (Durkheim,

Essay about Literary Analysis of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe
Literary Analysis of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe The life of Edgar Allan Poe was as morbid and
melancholy as his works. After
the abandonment by his father and the disturbing death of his mother, both prominent
traveling actors, Edgar was reluctantly forced into orphanage. He was later taken into the
home of John Allan, a wealthy tobacco merchant. Their relationship was shaky, at best,
and the contention between the two would last until Allan s death, where his will left
nothing for Poe. Amidst these calamities, came only more distress. The death John
Allan s wife, the woman who cared for Poe after his mother died, and a large amount of
debts acquired from gambling that forced him into early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The parallelism of Poe s own personal
problems with those of the narrator in The Raven, and the repetitive verse by the raven,
makes the reader aware of Poe s prominent tone of melancholy. A strong device for the
melancholic tone is Poe s life experiences. The narrator s sorrow for the lost Lenore is
paralleled with Poe s own grief regarding the death of his wife. Confined in the chamber
are memories of her who had frequented it. These ghostly recollections bring out a state
of eager anticipation in the reader to know and be relieved of the bewilderment that the
narrator and consequently Poe himself are experiencing; the narrator ponders whether he
will see his wife in the afterlife.
After Virginnia s lingering death, Poe tried to relieve his grief by drinking. A
parallelism is formed in The Raven between the condescending actions of the raven
towards the narrator and the taunting of alcohol towards Poe. The raven condescends that
Poe will never see his lost love again when uttering, forget this lost Lenore, in line 84.
Alcohol taunts Poe into ceaseless depression and caused him to have a life long problem
with alcoholism, which eventually led to his death. In a similar manner to which

Research Paper On Dorrence Corporation
Dorrence Corporation, large U.S. based pharmaceutical company with worldwide sales and
operations, had incredibly grown over past 28 years. The company did not have any loss during this
period. Nine Dorrence Corporation Operating Committee members would make very important
decisions, and they traditionally employed consensus management. The CEO of this company should
play a decisive role to persuade them to pass the bill that the company submitted to the meeting.
Dorrence s sale compound annual growth rate is 12% a year during the past 10 years, and its profits
have risen from 132 million dollars in 1979 to 558 million dollars in 1989, 15% on annual average.
Consequently, Dorrence s stock increased in value considerably. 65% of about 30,000 Dorrence
shareholders are composed of a comparatively small number of pension funds, mutual funds,
university endowments and insurance companies. Dorrence executives have around 2% of its stock
and all other employees have 2%.
The more Dorrence Corporation grew, the more the research expenditures were expanded. The
company disbursed its research and development costs at a higher rate than its sales growth because
the company believed that it was important to develop new drugs in order to extend people s lives and
to improve the quality of life. Furthermore, its good profitability enabled Dorrence to give ... Show

dollars in the current year, is 27.9 million dollars. The total expected amount of profit is 585.9 million

  • 3. Puerto Rico Territory Why do so many people argue about how Puerto Rico became a territory? Several historians believe that Puerto Rico was made a US Territory by The Foraker Act of 1900. Other historians say that The Jones Shafroth Act of 1917 made it a US Territory. Some might also say it was World War I. This essay will tell you about, Puerto Rico, all three things, and also which one is truly correct. Before starting to truly explain things, let me explain how this whole thing started. At the beginning is how Puerto Rico was discovered. Puerto Rico was found by Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to the Americas, when he was trying to find his fort on Hispaniola called La Navidad which was destroyed. Then Juan Ponce de Léon stumbled across Puerto Rico again while on his search to find the mystical Fountain of Youth . Then for the next three hundred years, Spain will rule Puerto Rico with an iron fist until 1898 when the Spanish American War broke out and the USA got Puerto Rico for themselves. The Spanish American War was a three month war that started on April 25, 1898 and ended on August 12, 1898. The war was started when the USS Maine blew up on February 15, 1898 by a supposed underwater mine. • 4. A Complex Adaptive System ( Cas ) Organizations and businesses are now seen as a function of increased specialization. Technology has become the order of the day where more and more businesses are heading towards that direction to have a competitive edge within the industry they best identify with. In light of this, conflicts are sometimes very challenging to comprehend, and theorists have also questioned the nature of the whole system to which all these complicating factors contribute. Many experts and scholars have argued that all these developments are characterized by a Complex Adaptive System (CAS). Most organizations are engulfed in planning activities such as formalized planning sessions that are of a strategic nature by design and to do this; business leaders tend to look for business intelligence, knowledge management and other methods that will enable them to have active planning sessions in real time to match the ever growing system. What then is Complex Adaptive System? To best define CAS, we need to understand what a system is. A system is defined as an assembly of elements hooked together to produce a whole in which the attributes of the elements contribute to a behavior of the whole ( Complex Adaptive Systems, n.d.). Examples of systems include the human body, galaxies, ecosystems, airplanes and computers. CAS is the study of natural systems and how they interact, adapt, and survive over time (Evans, 2015). By this definition, it is fair to say that organizations cannot ignore the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Katherine Tekakwitha Research Paper Tekakwitha, Katherine Katherine Tekakwitha, known to Catholics as St. Kateri Tekakwitha and called by them the Lily of the Mohawks, was born at Ossernenon (now Auriesville, New York) in 1656. Her mother, Tagaskouita, was an Alqonquin native American and a Christian. Her father, Kenneronkwa, was a Mohawk chief and followed traditional native practices. She received her given name of Tekakwitha (which means she who bumps into things ) after a bout with smallpox when she was four damaged her eyesight and scarred her face. The epidemic ravaged the Mohawk population around Ossernon until 1663 and claimed both her parents and brother. Tekawitha was adopted by an aunt and her husband, chief of the Turtle clan. • 6. The Portrait As A Young Man Theme Religion Since the beginning of time to today authors have used religion as a common theme in their writings. It is considered an elusive force, which means something different to everybody. In literature, the central theme religion usually creates the main character in the novel. Religion does not change characters but help them find a higher power spiritually or perhaps to cope with deeper issues. It reveals the true identity of characters personalities and if there the hypocrite of society. In the various novels The Portrait as a Young Man , Candide , Crime and Punishment and Native Son the authors use the common theme religion to change and form the main characters of their novel by changing society, themselves and their religious ... HE is still developing his religion believed but they are slowing forming his character and who he becomes later in the novel. Stephan again quotes: He knelt before the altar with his classmates, holding the altar cloth with them over a living rail of hands. His hands were trembling and his soul trembled as he heard the priest pass with the ciborium from communicant to communicant. Corpus Domini nostril,Could it be? He knelt there sinless and timid; and he would hold upon his tongue the host and God would enter his purified body. In vitam eternam. Amen....The ciborium had come to him ( 5.2.16)(Joyce). Stephan understands the importance of the sacraments which is a Christian symbol. Stephan takes the Christian metaphor of the sacraments representing Christ literally and starts to understand the concept of transubstantiation. In the final chapter Stephan exemplifies the life of an artist through his individuality seclusion. Religion is the last thing on Stephen s mind as he formulates his theses on art, aesthetic beauty, ideal pity and ideal terror. • 7. Richard Nixon Checkers Speech Analysis Guilty or Innocent:Richard Nixon s Checkers Richard Nixon successfully used Pathos throughout his Checkers Speech to appeal to the emotions of the American people. Nixon, more commonly known for being one of the most hated presidents that the United States has endured, is exceptionally brilliant. He used technology to help him plead his innocence, as he televised his big Checkers Speech for the entire United States to hear. While being accused of accepting millions of dollars and putting them into a slush fund , Nixon stood firm and exclaimed to the public, I want to make this particularly clear that no contributor to this fund, no contributor to any of my campaigns, has ever received any consideration that he would not have received as an ordinary constituent (par. 6)that he had no part in anything fraudulent. However he does admit to taking one gift his Cocker Spaniel named Checkers. Other than Checkers, which he receives nor gives any favoritism for accepting, he is an honest, hardworking man. He stated that he did not care for the opinion of the public I just want to say this, right now, that regardless of what they say about it, we re gonna keep it (par. 26) because his children fell in love with it, and he couldn t bring himself to take it away from them. Throughout Nixon s speech, he presents the illusion that he is in fact broke , thus appealing to poverty. He gives multiple examples of his financial situations by stating, I owe 4500 dollars to the Riggs Bank in Washington, D.C., with interest 4 and 1/2 percent. I owe 3500 dollars to my parents, and the interest on that loan, which I pay regularly, because it s the part of the savings they made through the years they were working so hard I pay regularly 4 percent interest. And then I have a 500 dollar loan, which I have on my life insurance. (par. 23) which also establishes credibility with his audience. He also says, But Pat and I have the satisfaction that every dime that we ve got is honestly ours. I should say this, that Pat doesn t have a mink coat. But she does have a respectable Republican cloth coat, and I always tell her she d look good in anything (par. 25) showing that money is not the reason he is running ... The research question that I am interested in answering is whether a combined prolonged exposure (PE) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) approach is useful in treating veterans with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The ideal study would include four groups: one to receive PE, one to receive CPT, one to receive both PE and CPT, and one that does not receive an intervention. The groups would consist of an equal 50/50 male to female ratio (half of the participants would be male, half would be female) to control for gender. The participants would be contacted based on information gathered about veterans with PTSD by the local U.S. Department of Veteran s Affairs offices in Orange County, California. In this scenario, the independent variable is the type of treatment and the values are the treatment groups. The dependent variables are the patient s measurable PTSD symptoms, including frequency of dissociative reactions, recurrent distressing dreams, negative alterations in cognitions and mood, and marked alterations in arousal and reactivity (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). We are made aware, however, of Socrates special charm and intellectual gifts through the insistence of Polemarchus and the other men for the pleasure of his company. The tone is casual and language and modes of expression rather simple, as is commonly the case in Plato s dialogues. However, Plato s unaffected style serves at least two purposes. For one it belies the complexity and elevation of the ideas, thus it is in accord with Socrates characteristic irony itself, which draws the quot;fool quot; in by feigned ignorance, only so that the master can show that he does not know what he thinks he knows. And second, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates response (another question) clarifies his epistemology: quot;how can anyone answer who knows, and says that he knows, just nothing?? quot; What Socrates knows is incommunicable other than to say that he knows nothing. His philosophical speculations embody a process rather than a philosophy. That is, Socrates method is in accord with the nature of inquiry and of intellectual exploration itself: he is his style. And, acutely aware of this fact, Socrates repels every temptation toward dogma, characterized by Thrasymachus complaints. The second definition of justice, obedience to the interest of the stronger, is Thrasymachus veiled justification for tyranny (might is right), and is foreshadowed in his indecorous demand for payment. He is portrayed in sharp contrast to Socrates, who suggests that the stronger may not always know his own interest; therefore, at times, it is necessary for the weaker to disobey him. Socrates then successfully upsets the definition by demonstrating that, insofar as his role is an art, a ruler acts in the best interest of his subjects, as exemplified by the physician for his patients and the captain for his crew. Still unresolved, the debate moves into a second stage, where tyranny, or perfect injustice, and benevolent rule, or perfect justice, are evaluated against one another. Wright Mills The Sociological Imagination brings forth a way of thinking where in order to understand the biography of a distinct individual or the overall history of society, the two entities must be understood as one reciprocal relationship. He states that one cannot be understand without the other, and it is a thought that emphasizes how interlaced and dependent an individual is of society, and a society is of the individuals that compose it. As a result, readers are invited in moments of self evaluation of their own respective lives, their roles in society, and how society has shaped them, through a new way of thinking. If the West seems impartial or even indifferent to the Chechen conflict, it is because there is little understanding of this people, of their struggle, or of the vast complexities of the greater North Caucasian region in which the Chechens are a part. Today, the task of studying the six North Caucasian states is complicated by the several dialects of the Nakh language (one of which the Chechens speak), as well as the Batsbii and Ingush languages. In many cases as in the Chechen and Ingush peoples one dialect of Nakh is more closely related to the Ingush language than of other Nakh dialects (the Chechens and Ingush share forty percent of their vocabulary). Furthermore, the Chechens themselves lacked a written script until the 1920 s. Edelstein Cosmetics Case Study Order 3 Edelstein Cosmetics Delivers Customer Service Tips For A Busy Office Setting Anyone who has ever sat waiting in a busy office knows that it can be a tedious occasion that gets on your nerves. What makes it worse is when the people on the other side of that equation, the office workers, seem to show little concern for what s going on with the people waiting. This is a common problem wherever people have to wait for an appointment of some kind. The wait becomes practically interminable if the setting is inhospitable. And the bad impression it leaves can make it so you never want to go back. That s why the workers in the offices of service providers have to be always on the ball when it comes to their customer service efforts, lest the office in which they work gets less crowded for all the wrong reasons. People who have to wait for a decent period of time can get extremely testy, which means that the patience of the workers can be tested in turn. But the extra effort that the employees demonstrate can make the difference between a satisfied customer and a frustrated one. At Edelstein Cosmetics, a busy medical center in Toronto specializing in cosmetic surgery and treatments, that kind of extra effort is par for the course. But, according to CEO XXX, it takes more than that to give patients in a sensitive situation the kind of tender loving care that eases their nerves and makes them feel comfortable. By: James Urquhart Date: 02/10/16 Course: Art Appreciation Semester: Fall Words: 1273 (Not including cover page or reference page) Museum Project The Louvre: The Louvre is the museum I researched, and Virgin of the Rocks is the painting I decided to choose. The Louvre Museum is the largest in the world, and is situated in Paris, France. Around 35,000 objects are exhibited over an area of around 40 square miles. The Louvre is also the second most visited museum in the world, trailing only the Palace Museum in China. The louvre has more than 9 million visitors annually. (Louvre, 2016) The museum opened to the public on August 10, 1793. At this point it only had a little over 500 paintings in its possession. Most of these works were either royal art, or confiscated church property. During the years of 1796 until 1801, the Louvre was closed due to maintenance and construction. Eventually, this collection was added to with contributions during the reigns of Louis XVIII and Charles X. Furthermore, the Second French Empire helped to contribute a further 20,000 pieces to the Louvre. Oz is shot in bright and vibrant colours, which pertains to the idea of a magical land that appears very opposed to the dull and colourless real world of Kansas, assisting on taking the viewer on the journey over the rainbow . This goal oriented plot in The Wizard of Oz follows a pattern of development that encourages the viewer to expect Dorothy to reach her desired goal. The viewer then sees each action of Dorothy s to be a progress of this desire to go home to Kansas. The film is brought to a climax when the Dorothy and her friends return to visit the Wizard after destroying the Wicked Witch of the West, of which he had requested. During this scene it is revealed that the Wizard is in fact a fraud, an ordinary but clever man who although as no powers, still fulfils the expectations of the story. He gives Scarecrow, Tinman and the Cowardly Lion the answers they seek by giving them the self confidence to recognise they had the qualities which they were looking for all along and he presents them with some token external symbols to represent this. In the final scenes and formal resolution of the film, which is shot in sepia tones creating a parallelism with Kansas on the opening scene, Dorothy attains her goal of returning home, waking up in her own bedroom surrounded by friends and family from her real life, therefore fulfilling the ... • 30. Analysis Of The Movie Facing Death Facing Death is a compelling documentary on, oftentimes, the final journey patients and their families will venture through together in life. The documentary seeks to capture how the patients and their families respond to the inevitability of death. The film includes families who respond to the issue by allowing their family member, the patient, to pass through the door of death without aggressive care, while there are yet other families who insist on everything being done to delay the moment of death. This topic of fighting death is attributed with producing much debate. On one hand are those who do not see the point of fighting death, however, on the other hand, there are those who believe that delaying death and staying alive is what ought to be done. Personally, from what I understand of either party, I think that I am a part of the later party. In addition, this issue naturally delves into what one believes occurs after death, as it is an issue dealing directly with death. This also compels me to view this topic from the viewpoint of the later party. One philosophy that people may take on the topic of delaying the moment of death is that it is pointless and should not be delayed beyond reason. From what I have observed, people of this philosophy do not protest against emergency care. Rather, I think that they would only disapprove of the aggressive care that may lessen quality of life in the patients. For example, if a patient is being sustained by a respirator, but ... Bearing so many social influences, medias were somewhat blamed for being responsible for the loss of war by many historians.
