The Voodoo Religion And Its Stereotypes

What is the Voodoo Religion, and its Stereotypes
By: Yann Landy Simboro

Tuesday April 15 2017
One don t have to look very far to find links and ties with Voodoo to western popular culture. We can
see from Zombie movies, to different types of horror movies how the Voodoo religion have been
stereotypically viewed. Novelty stores sell pin filled dolls to aim a public ranging from miscreant
romantic partners to unreasonable bosses. Even Runescape (an online gaming platform) has its own
Voodoo brand, and can choose to be in different Voodoo clans. These chops feature witch doctors,
jinxed Hoodpiles and punctured Voodoo dolls. These types of representations ... Show more content

This process is said to be reciprocal, and follower must look after Lwa by performing these rituals,
which can sometimes come in in the form of animal sacrifice. In the other hand some Voodooist ritual
allow followers to thank the spirit for their protection, blessings or good fortune. To maintain a good
relationship with the Lwa, or stay in good terms followers must all conduct themselves properly
according to the customs of the community and the religion. In this way one can see how Voodoo can
influence a persons day by day decision, activities, and decision making. Part of voodoo belief is that
the Lwa communicate with followers through possession. The Lwa takes place of the host, and
temporarily displaces its soul. According to this belief the medium cannot feel pain or become injured
while he is in trans. The lwa speaks through the host giving intructions, advices or prophecies of
future events. In some cases the Lwa can rebuke the host for failing to perform their duties. This idea
of being possessed unites two different types Voodoo practitioners. One of them primarly existing in
northern, and central portion of West African coast. This type of voodoo is the oldest known Voodoo
and goes back to 6000 years ago from to Fon and Kongo. The other is practiced primarly in Haiti as
well as in parts of north and sourth America.
Books that explore either form of voodoo often explain the religion through series of stories and
anecdotes instead of using a straightforward analysis. This is also the main reason voodoo is soo
widely seen in a stereotypical way in the modern western world. The reason as to why there is no
straight forward representation; and also the leading factor as to why the Voodoo religion is seen in
such a way is due to three

My Adventure Essay
As blood ran through my system like race fuel, as I raced around the ancient temple. The pounding of
my heart upon my chest like a v8 in a stock car, meant I was running at 110%. I stared back at the
temple was crumbling, I was almost to the window I could taste the humid jungle air already.I could
feel my legs burning, my feet losing sensation and my lungs gasping for air. Finally, with the last of
my energy I push off of the ledge and plummeted towards fate, as my life rested in God s hands as I
fell 150ft into the abyss. I could bring these tall tales to college, but I rather talk about my personal
adventure. The story of my adventure to Paris to experience the rich French culture. To explore the
Spanish culture while I was in Spanish immersion. I may not be an explorer of ancient ruins, however I
still explore different cultures, as well as explored unique opportunities that expanded my knowledge
and skills, all this has added up to unique attributes I hold, and are willing to share. Traveling around
the world may be a dream for some, but for me I rather explore the world. I ve been to many tourist
spots, it a devastating sight to see so many people take a photo, stare at whatever it is and then leave.
They never stay and learn about the culture and history of that spot. I m so grateful that I was a part of
the Spanish immersion program of my school. I was able to learn so much, and I gained a greater view
of the world. Currently I m no longer enrolled, however I took

Neverwhere By Neil Gaiman Summary
Neverwhere You Would Expect To Be
Imagine being forgotten, lost, and terrified. To know where you re going but not where you are. To
have all of your friends, family and even fiancée forget about you. Imagine being introduced to almost
whole new world, and not necessarily a good one, a world you wish you never knew about or never
thought about. In Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, I will inspect how suspense is built into the novel by
the setting. Neverwhere takes place in the city of London. The main character Richard lives in a small
apartment and has a fiancée. One day while walking to dinner Richard finds a bleeding girl on the side
of the road. He helped her like a good samaritan would have, but little did he ... Show more content on

People can see him in London below and in London about. Regular people who have never heard of
London below or thought of it cannot. For example, Hey. Hang on. You can see me. (P67) Here
Richard realizes there is still hope, that he is not completely invisible to the world. Another point is
that normal people can be hated and both London below and regular London. For example He put his
dagger away, in the furs of his robe. Then he smiled at Richard with yellow teeth. This was after Lord
Ray Speaker wanted to slit his throat. Normal people are not especially liked in London Below, some
not even regular London. This builds suspense into the novel because we know that anything can
happen anywhere, no matter who you

Iwit Event Analysis
Event Purpose The 2017 Indy Women in Tech (IWIT) Championship presented by Guggenhein was a
new tournament for the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). Over 140 players competed in
the LPGA event, which included several ancillary events in the buildup to the three day tournament in
support of STEM education and the Indianapolis tech scene. The LPGA event not only highlighted
STEM and tech, but showcased the Indianapolis Motor Speedway s course, the Brickyard Crossing
Golf Course.
Former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard, who works with Indy Women in Tech Inc., was a driving
force behind the multi year deal to bring IWiT to the city. The organization s mission is, To inspire
women and girls of all ages to pursue stem related ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, several attendees were there because of work or worked for one of the sponsored organizations.
The average age at the event was early 40s with more than 50% of attendees being college graduates.
Based off of the demographics of attendees, I would say golf is considered a favorite sport to over half
of those in attendance.
History
The IWiT Championship is a first time event with a commitment to continue to stay in Indianapolis
for three years. The tournament has committed to financially support local initiatives through
marketing platforms. In its first year, the tournament drew thousands of attendees each day. Not only
did it bring a vast amount of attendees, the event exposed attendees to the technology industry.
Impacts
The economic impact of IWiT resulted in national and international travel to the event, resulting in
hotel bookings. IWiT enhanced the continued sport reputation that Indianapolis upholds. Also, the
event drove direct facility operational expenditures for the Brickyard Crossing course and capital
investments to improve the grounds. The tournament engaged with outside courses and country clubs
to provoke day trips and overnight trips to attend the event. By staging the event, I would presume that
authorities lost money even though the city benefited greatly in terms of additional spending.
IWiT s initiatives to expose the tech hub that has relocated to Indianapolis has brought awareness to
the environmental

Trigger Warnings Examples
Trigger warnings are being enforced around America in hopes of improving the way college students
learn. Trigger warnings originated on the internet as a way to flag certain material that could be
harmful to others. Many professors are now pushing for trigger warnings as a way to warn students
that ideas within their material could offend or emotionally harm them. While they are being
implemented across the country, their effects on students are proving to be more harmful than helpful
because they often hinder students education rather than further develop it. Applying trigger warnings
may cause professors to choose to negatively alter their material in order to attempt to teach it without
offending his or her students. In the article Survey ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They allow a colleges to coddle students. One instance of this can come from the article Con: Trigger
Warnings Impose Censorship in the Name of Sensitivity. Donald A. Downs, author and professor of
political science, law, and journalism at the University of Wisconsin, explains how trigger warnings
can negatively affect students. Downs states, Education should expose students to the depths of the
human condition, which unavoidably involves matters of good and evil, life and death. He then
claims, Trigger warnings assume that many students are not capable of handling the responsibilities of
adult citizenship. Students cannot possibly be expected to mentally or emotionally grow when they are
constantly being sheltered from the real world and all of its sometimes painful disputes. Trigger
warnings cater to the sensitive students and grant them no room to grow up on their own. Many
colleges are being overwhelmed by the positive effects that may come with trigger warnings, they
should heavily consider the negative ones as well. Enforcing trigger warnings in hopes of furthering
college education would unleash a surge of flaws into a school. Though trigger warnings may have
few upsides, if put into action they will prove themselves to be destructive to a school s learning

Atticus Qualities In To Kill A Mockingbird
In To Kill a Mockingbird, a novel by Harper Lee, Atticus displays many admirable qualities. He is a
figure many look up to, and many respect. His emotions never get the better of him, and he is always
calm and collected. He is kind and pleasant to everyone, no matter how they treat him. He loves his
children a lot, and raises them to the best of his ability, even though people criticize him for raising
them the way he is. Because of all the reading Atticus does, he is very knowledgeable, and although he
is definitely one of the smartest people in the town, he never brags and always stays humble. Atticus
has numerous admirable qualities; he is loving, amiable, and humble. One of Atticus s best
characteristics was his humble nature. Although he was a very smart and skilled person, he never
bragged over anything. Atticus shooting Tim Johnson was one great example of this. Atticus, using his
amazing rifle skills shoots a sick dog, and impresses his children greatly. Mr. Tate, the local sheriff,

Despite not showing much physical or verbal affection to his children throughout the book, Atticus
often portrays his love in a different way. He obviously wants the best for his children and always puts
them first. One example of this is when Atticus goes down to the jailhouse to confront a group of
potentially dangerous men, and his children follow him there. Knowing that the situation could get
ugly, Atticus immediately tries to get his children to leave and go home. One slightly different
example comes soon after when Atticus demonstrates the one way he shows physical affection for his
children. As they passed under a streetlight, Atticus reached out and massaged Jem s hair, his one
gesture of affection. (207) Despite not showing love in the way most would, loving is certainly a word
that describes Atticus

Illegal Immigrants In America
Illegal immigration is a very controversial topic in America today. There is a controversy over whether
or not America should be allowing these illegal people in, and whether or not they should receive
privileges reserved for American citizens. The humanitarian argument is to let everyone who needs
help in and to allow them to establish residency and be afforded all of the privileges of a citizen,
which would include welfare, public schools, etc. However, the overall state of the country must be
considered over that of the happiness and comfort of non citizens. People need to realize there are
many negative consequences to letting these people in, besides the fact the crime of crossing the
border has already been committed. Despite people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Irish came to America they were persecuted and discriminated against, many not being able
to find work being turned away with signs such as Irish need not apply. However, the real problem
began when immigrants from South America began crossing the nation s southern border to come here
illegally. An estimated eleven million illegal immigrants are in the United States today. That is an
increase of roughly one third since 2000, when there were 8.5 million illegal immigrants, according to
the Center for American Progress.(Goldfuss) Also eighty six percent of illegal immigrants have been
living in America for seven years or longer.(LeMay) Many argue that becoming a legal immigrant is
next to impossible and that it is too hard and the process takes too long , meaning that by the standards
they have created there are not enough visas awarded and the process to legally emigrate takes too
long, so they decide to take it upon themselves to commit a crime and cross the United States southern
border. (Herreras) The current legal channel for people to become citizens is through getting either a
green card or a work visa, which can be seasonal or year round.(U.S. Department of State.) However,
there are only so may awarded so not every person will be able to enter America legally, but that does
not give the right to the excluded for them to illegally cross into the country and act as if they are one
of the ones which a green card or a

Examples Of Irony In Lamb To The Slaughter
In Lamb to the Slaughter the author, Roald Dahl writes about a young, pregnant woman named Mary
Maloney waiting for the return of her husband. When Mr. Maloney arrives, he disrupts the usual
domestic routine the couple had put in place by claiming he wants a divorce. Overcome with emotions
Mary takes the audience by surprise. She kills her husband. While this may seem like a horror or
tragic story. However, the irony of it all causes the audience to view it instead, as a dark humored
comedy. The title itself is ironic thought the reader doesn t realize it until the end if the story. Lambs
are often seen as a symbol for purity or innocence. The title Lamb to the Slaughter would be the same
as saying killing innocence or the death of purity. The irony of the title itself is that a symbol of
innocence is used as a murder weapon.
The irony in the story doesn t really start until the end of the second page when Mary kills her
husband and then in the most calm manner says, All right... so I ve killed him (Dahl 3). Everything the
reader has seen up to this point about Mary s character is that she is docile, little housewife that will
do anything to make her husband happy. She eagerly awaits her husband s return from work and does
everything she can to make him comfortable rushing to pour him a drink or offering to get his slippers.
Taking a piece of meat and using it to crush one s husband s skull is the exact opposite of these traits
that have been seen previously in Mary. Add

The Three Major Characteristics Of An Educated Person
Characteristics of an Educated Person
Introduction
A person is made up of a variety of different characteristics, ranging widely from positive to negative.
When thinking of an educated person the mind may first consider, as I did, a book smart, motivated
person who holds degrees or titles. Upon further thought, that image was quickly eliminated. An
educated person is much more than books, titles and degrees. Some may not have a college degree or
have attended school at all. There are various qualities that truly educated people possess. Many
people enjoy the exploration of knowledge and a fulfillment. Emmons (2003) suggests A meaningful
life is one that is characterized by a deep sense of purpose, a sense of inner conviction, and assurance
that in spite of one s current plight, life has significance (p. 138). Lifelong learning, open mindedness
and a sense of curiosity are three major characteristics of an educated person.
Lifelong Learners
Learning is not memorizing information, learning is not following rubrics, and among many other
things that learning is not, it is not something that can be done for you. According to Haydar and Kadi
(2012), lifelong learners recognize that learning is not confined to childhood or the classroom, but
takes place throughout life and in a variety of situations (pg. 4093). Lifelong learners are enthusiastic
about learning and this passion for learning reflects the value of interest in and inquiry about the world
in general and

The Superstitious And Mythical Figure Of The Vampire
The superstitious and mythical figure of the vampire has been seen throughout all era s off history. It
is a figure of mythology that is transcendent in an abundance of cultures and regions. The most
significant aspect of the vampire is its ability to redefine itself throughout history and continued to
stay relevant to society. The most modern and commonly known definition of vampires is a
preternatural being know to be a corpse that resurrects from the dead and lives of the living, by
draining humans of their blood, until a it is impaled by a wooden stick or burned. In ancient history we
see the myth of the vampire appearing in burial traditions, showing vast similarities to the modern day
definition of the vampire. We see this appear in various cultures and regions like the Tibetans, ancient
Babylonia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome (Wotherspoon, 6 8).
In The Tibetan Book of the Dead, it is explained by Lama Kazi Dawa that, they believe if a spirit sees
its corpse, it will try to reclaim its body resulting in vampirism. For this reason, it was common for
Tibetans to opt out of an earth burial and chose a fire burial or in modern terms cremation (Dawa
Samdup, 26). In ancient Babylonia, a tablet was found with an inscription that explains their burial
traditions. In this inscription, it states the Babylonians belief that if specific burial traditions where not
followed an evil force will come from their grave (Summers, 220). This belief could very well be a
parallel to the

7 Exoplanet Research Paper
Ever since I was a young child I was always intrigued by space. Just like many children I wanted to be
an astronaut when I grew up. It was just fascinating to me to go off and explore. From a young age, I
knew the Universe was infinite but tapped into the basic human instinct to explore. I would play with
models, and use computer programs to look at planets and stars. I was given a telescope when I was
ten or eleven for Christmas and became even more entrenched with space. It was just always
fascinating to me and to this day it still is. That s why when NASA announced that they had found
seven exoplanets orbiting a star not too far away, called Trappist. When I say not too far away it is still
not reachable for humans at this point. Trappist is two hundred thirty five trillion miles away, or forty
light years. It takes the light from Trappist forty years to reach us. If we could travel the speed of light,
which is nowhere near possible, it would take forty years to get there. Trappist is a very cool red dwarf
star, the most common in the universe. Of the seven planets three of them orbit within the habitable
zone. The habitable zone is the zone in which liquid water can be present on the surface thus meaning

At that point I believe that aliens would want it to be known that the exist if they see how far behind

A Good Day In High School
It was an extremely normal day at school, almost so normal i knew something was going to happen
later that day. So the story starts with me , Kyle, sleeping in bed. Now every morning is very hard for
me because i stay up late doing homework. So as you can guess im pretty tired in the morning. So the
night before i set my alarm to wake me up at 6:27, my mom leaves at 6:40 and she has to see me brush
my teeth or else she doesn t give me my phone. So i get up, brush my teeth, and then she gives me my

Old Spice Narrative
I cried on the day of my Kindergarten graduation, when my mother got a new job, when my bedroom

I guess I ve never really been a fan of change.
So when the morning of my brother s college move in day came around, I was already uneasy.
I woke up to various sounds coming from my brother s room and attempted to escape reality through
sleep. That lasted about 30 seconds before I was drafted to help him finish his incredibly last minute
packing. After loading up the van with precariously balanced boxes, we climbed in and set off for

While I love my brother, our relationship was never peaceful. In the twelve years I had lived with him,

As we continued inside to where all of the promotional gifts were being handed out, I pondered this.
While my mother and brother argued about how many samples of Old Spice deodorant we could take

Before this moment, I was never on my own. I had someone who could help me get ahead in math or

didn t have to worry about taking risks, because someone had already set a precedent for me. How
could I be certain of my own accomplishments? And more importantly, what would I do when left to

Critical Moment Essay: Things Fall Apart
Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man s character, give him power Abraham

Okonkwo, encounters while he is trying his hardest to become one of the lords of the clan. Okonkwo

Okonkwo always had a desire for power, which was caused by his lazy and weak father. In the end of

Another example of Okonkwo s lack of knowledge is Perhaps down in his heart Okonkwo was not a

His lack of knowledge led his son, Nwoye, to be just like Okonkwo s father. Okonkwo was so busy

Persuasive Essay On Legalize Medical Marijuana
Many medically ill patients experience agonizing pain everyday that they can not easily control with
regular pain medicine, so what s the next best thing? There have been many recent cases where
medical patients have used medical marijuana for therapeutic uses and found that it had slowed the
progression of their disease or helped cure it. Medical marijuana has started to become more popular
with medical communities and researchers. Medical marijuana can affect many things in a positive
way such as financial situations and social aspects, while having benefits on medical illnesses.
Medical marijuana that does not contain the THC drug should be legalized in the United States
because it would provide therapeutic benefits without making the user feel high. The District of
Columbia and approximately thirty states have laws that allow some sort of medical marijuana use.
Since there is about half of the 50 states that have legalized medical marijuana it would be tough for
patients to travel to another state if it is not legalized through the United States. The United States
needs to legalize medical marijuana so that patients who are traveling to hospitals throughout the
country, such as the Mayo Clinic, do not need to worry about restrictions with their marijuana. If a
person traveling to the Mayo Clinic where to get pulled over, they could suffer great fines, or even
face jail time, because Minnesota might not support legalized medical marijuana. Changing the laws

Lego Girl Research Paper
Oftentimes, it takes something more powerful than us, something that floats on a higher cloud to
humble our senses and show us just how small and insignificant we really are to the vast realm beyond
what is Earth. In this rare case, all the authority begins within a single compact toy brick.
Legos: ancient little colorful pieces of plastic that have been around for over eight decades. Even
though they have been present, unchanged, and accessible for so long, below the surface of simple
construction, they hold the ability to prepare one for the real world.
Unlike the idealistic Barbie and her party going, way too perfectly fitted image of what all little girls
hope life turns out to be, legos are genuinely realistic. In the mindset of a lego builder, there are
several different phases. There is hopefulness, anticipation, excitement, frustration, and just like in

The Cost Of College Is Too High For Every Student
Today, degrees are reflecting strongly on people s lives. The cost of college has become too high for
every student or parent to afford, which makes it impossible for everyone to obtain a degree. College
level has become too tough and beyond student s reach and abilities, not anyone who obtaining a
degree can get through other majors, such as physics or math, degrees don t evaluate your skills
neither your efforts. For the most important, jobs in our market have been evaluating their applicants
qualifications through their degrees. Degrees demand beyond the reach of people s abilities and
solutions should be suggested to undermine degrees as a job qualification.

Today, many computer programmers without college degrees get jobs by presenting examples of their
work. With a little imagination, almost any corporation can come up with analogous work samples
(Murray 2). Although not everyone has the intellectual ability to do college work but that doesn t
make them not have the skills for a job. Twisting percentages in education would be a good idea for
students who are not up to college level. In generally, many of college students drop out and clearly
many of them get on campus without gaining the skills and knowledge in their freshman and
sophomore years to succeed. Jobs and education aren t always related. Education shouldn t always be
the reason for getting a well payed job but rather your skills, not everything you study in college is
remembered and a research by Murray supports his point which states that, About 10 percent to 20
percent of all 18 year olds can absorb the material in your old liberal arts textbooks. For engineering
and the hard sciences, the percentage is probably not as high as 10. (Murray 1). In my community,
most of the Americans say that the higher education system in the United States fell and didn t provide
students with good value for the money. In addition, even at times college presidents not only rated the
quality of higher education lower than before, but also rated students lower as well. According to

The main character throughout most of the book is Verity , or Julie. She is actually telling the story of
Maddie, however, although her presence seems to still be main focus throughout the story. Halfway
through the book, however, it switched to Maddie s point of view, or Kittyhawk . With both of the
girls, you can see the changes in them. They both develop greatly and you can see it through them by
just looking at what they are afraid of. It mentions once in the story that Julie once said that she was
afraid of growing old, and then she say s later that she could eat her words: she is now afraid of never

Cosmological Design
This week s reflection revolves around why things happen. Are there underlying causes for things to
happen? The cosmological design begins with the concept, as stated by William Rowe, Things in the
world are caused by other things. (Rowe, 2007, 19) God planned out the creation of the world and
proceeded to create the world and all of its inhabitants. Rowe continued, The Greeks also said, The
ultimate cause of change is itself unchanging. (Rowe, 2007, 20) What confuses me is the statement
that every being is either dependent or a self existent being and not every being can be dependent it

How My Sex, Gender, And Race Ethnicity Influenced My...
In this self analysis, I look at how my sex, gender, and race ethnicity influenced my concept of family
and traditional gender roles. Education as a minority has forced an awareness on the disproportion of
men and women in STEM majors. Navigating through stereotypes, cultural differences, and
similarities amongst family, peers, and strangers has been an ongoing voyage in my life. The
opportunities my upbringing and culture has afforded and the consequences of chances are critical in
how I balance multiple statuses. Identifying as a double minority has affected my life experiences and
potential career options will also be reflected upon. The master, ascribed status associated with being a
woman has countless affects on my experiences and how it has designed my life. Everything I do is
with the mindset of a woman, whether it is how I dress or how I speak. From the time when I was
young, I was the first female child within my generation. Even at the age of five, I recall countless
times where I had to prove I could hang with the boys. This sort of initiation occurred in countless
ways from doing gross dares to having to show I can take a punch literally. Enduring all this mayhem
only seemed natural because I did not want to be seen or treated differently from the boys. Time
passed and my woman ness became even more prevalent as boys were able to get away with things

Board of Education, resulted in the overturning of the separate, but equal doctrine under the
realization that separation is what took away the equality. In the early 1950s, schools in Topeka,
Kansas segregated people by race, leaving Linda Brown and her sister to walk through a hazardous
railroad switchyard to get to the bus stop for their school. There was a school closer to where they
lived, however, it was an all white school. Linda and her family saw the segregation systems as a
violation of the Fourteenth Amendment and took it to court. Federal district courts claimed the
segregation was harmful to African American youths, however due to the similar qualities the all black
and all white schools shared, it was deemed fully constitutional under the separate, but equal doctrine.
The case was taken to the Supreme Court and the court expressed that even though the schools shared
similar facilities, segregated schools could never be equal. As such, the separate, but equal doctrine
was overruled as it violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. This decision
resulted in the precedent that any laws that segregated people, no matter how similar their facilities
may be, was unconstitutional.(Paraphrased from www.streetlaw.org) One way the two cases are linked

Character Analysis Of Chalson s Flowers For Algernon
Charly (CHAЯLY) is a science fiction drama film produced and directed by Ralph Nelson, which has
been adapted based on the novel Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. The film was released in
September 1968 and was a hit at the box office. The film focuses around Charly s developing
character, who is a mentally retarded 30 year old man with a low IQ who can only do very simple
tasks. According to Roger Ebert,
He cheerfully inhabits a world that seems frightening to us. His barren room contains a blackboard
with the next day s tasks on it; he works as a janitor at a bakery where his friends torment him. With
heartbreaking persistence, he attends night classes and takes guided tours of the city, but the things he
learns all slip away and he has to keep starting again (Ebert).
Throughout the film, it is visible Charly s strong desire in growing more intelligent and all the effort
and determination he puts into it. The film plots distinctive themes and an extremely significant
symbol. The themes will be analyzed through the tension between intelligence and emotion and the
relationship between the mistreatment of disabled and alienation. The significant symbol in the film is
represented by the mouse Algernon. The themes are powerful features to the meaning of the film. The
tension between intellect and emotion plays a huge role in Charly s personality. Due to his mental
disability, Gordon is an extremely kind, truthful and sympathetic man. A great example plotted in the

Hydrogen And Hydrogen As A Fuel
Introduction
Hydrogen is proven to be the most efficient furl because of its abundance and the production of
harmless bi products as compared fossil fuel. Despite the abundance in its natural existence, Hydrogen
can also be obtained through processes such as the electrolysis of water and methanol steam
conversion. Hydrogen as a fuel is capable of the replacement of most of the other sources of energy.
However, Hydrogen faces numerous obstacles to its entry into the economy and the utilization by
human beings. The technology to contain and manage hydrogen as a fuel is already present. However,
the hindrances bar the launch of hydrogen as a basic fuel. The essay discusses the various obstacles to
the hydrogen economy such as the market entry issues and issues related to policies.
Thesis statement: The government ownership of fossil fuel reservoirs and gas outlet companies is the
main obstacle to the launch and adoption of the hydrogen economy.
Background and history The use of hydrogen as a fuel requires the adoption of the fuel cells
technology for their role in the reaction activity between hydrogen and hydrogen for the production of
energy. The fuel cells convert more of their energy potential from the fuel source as compared to the
regular gasoline fuels. The insignificance of the impact caused by the bi products of such reactions
makes it the much better option than the fossil fuels that face the threat of exhaustion. However, the
adoption of hydrogen as the primary

Gender Aspects Of The Sailor Moon And Sailor Moon
Commercials on television for superheroes always had them men doing the saving and then the
women needing to be saved. The very few girl superheroes that were well known were Wonder
Woman, Super Girl and Storm. However, in anime there are a bunch of girls fighting to save the world
and saving the men. Sailor Moon is on top of the list when it comes to girl power, being released in
1992, and Sailor Moon Crystal was released in 2014. Sailor moon was seen by some critics as
sexualized, but others argue that it isn t as bad as some of the other animes that were released after
Sailor Moon. Girl superheroes in anime were a mix of being sexy and cute, and the sexy in Sailor
Moon was just a bunch of short skirts, high heels, and a small amount of cleavage. Sailor Moon
challenged the norms in Japan when it came to gender roles, sexual orientation and presentation of
womanhood.
At an early age, girls were pushed to follow gender roles especially when it was in the early 1990s. It
was something different to see on the television screens girls fighting and challenging gender roles. In
Sailor Moon, the audience witness a reverse role with the girls being the heroes, even though the male
character Tuxedo Mask can also be a hero, his role was minimal because it was the sailor scouts that
did most, if not all of the work. Victoria Newsom in her critical essay said

The Effects Of Demonic Possession And Psychological Illness
Many have tried to argue for the existence of demonic possession, some even go so far as to say that
demonic possession and psychological illnesses are fundamentally different. If mental illness and
demonic possession are not simply different names for the same thing, then we are left with two
possibilities. Either they are unrelated phenomena, or there is some kind of association between them.
Of course, even if they are unrelated, they may still be confused with each other because of superficial
similarities. If they are related, however, we need to understand the nature of the connection between
them. Thus, we may be faced with a differential diagnostic problem. Either we need to distinguish
which of these two entities we are dealing with, or else we need to identify which is the primary
problem which led to the other as a secondary complication.
The goal of this paper is to thoroughly analyze the history of demonic in comparison to the
psychological illness, schizophrenia, a disorder that remains without a complete cure and is still
extremely debilitating for the diagnosed if they are not receiving treatment. This will be done by
describing both the origin of demonic possession and schizophrenia, identifying the way each are
diagnosed, and how they are treated. I will then provide an example of an exorcism done to banish a
demon where schizophrenia might have been a better diagnosis. I will finally discuss why demonic
possession and the illness schizophrenia are

General Mining Act Research Paper
The General Mining Act of 1872 encourages people and companies to prospect for minerals on
federally owned land. This encourages US citizens and businesses to stake a claim on the plot of land
and patent the claim for about $5 per acre. (Withgott) Until recently, there was no requirement to
restore the land after mining. Several mining techniques have been used over the years. From strip
mining, subsurface mining to open pit, placer, and mountaintop mining.
Strip mining is a process where layers of surface soil and rock are removed and exposed. The
overlaying soil called, overburden is set aside while the resource is extracted. Once completed, the
overburden is then refilled, and the process begins again on another strip of land. Strip mining ...

Miners systematically removed the resource and ship it to the surface. Subsurface mining is generally
done for metals such as zinc, lead, nickel, tin, gold, copper and uranium. Subsurface mining is
extremely dangerous due to natural gas explosions, which can cause shafts and tunnels to collapse.
Open pit mining is used when a resource is spread out in a rock formation. An enormous hole is dug,
and the source is then removed. Open Pit mining is generally used for mining for gold, diamonds,
coal, copper and other resources. This method consumes a large amount of habitat that becomes lost.
Once mining is completed the pit will generally fill up with water.
Placer mining uses water to separate mud and gravel from mineral of value. The disruption of ancient
riverbeds is very harsh and environmentally destructive causing debris to be deposited into streams
and making them uninhabitable for fish or other life forms for many miles downstream. This method
is very similar to the Gold rush days in California in1849, that the practice was halted in 1884. The

Porter s Generic Strategies Framework
Introduction Porter s generic strategies framework constitutes a major contribution to the development
of the strategic management literature. Generic strategies were first presented in two books by
Professor Michael Porter of the Harvard Business School (Porter, 1980, 1985). Porter (1980, 1985)
suggested that some of the most basic choices faced by companies are essentially the scope of the
markets that the company would serve and how the company would compete in the selected markets.
Competitive strategies focus on ways in which a company can achieve the most advantageous position
that it possibly can in its industry (Pearson, 1999). The profit of a company is essentially the
difference between its revenues and costs. Therefore high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Companies employ this strategy by focusing on the areas in a market where there is the least amount
of competition (Pearson, 1999). Organisations can make use of the focus strategy by focusing on a
specific niche in the market and offering specialised products for that niche. This is why the focus
strategy is also sometimes referred to as the niche strategy (Lynch, 2003). Therefore, competitive
advantage can be achieved only in the company s target segments by employing the focus strategy.
The company can make use of the cost leadership or differentiation approach with regard to the focus
strategy. In that, a company using the cost focus approach would aim for a cost advantage in its target
segment only. If a company is using the differentiation focus approach, it would aim for differentiation
in its target segment only, and not the overall market. This strategy provides the company the
possibility to charge a premium price for superior quality (differentiation focus) or by offering a low
price product to a small and specialised group of buyers (cost focus). Ferrari and Rolls Royce are
classic examples of niche players in the automobile industry. Both these companies have a niche of
premium products available at a premium price. Moreover, they have a small percentage of the
worldwide market, which is a trait characteristic of niche players. The downside of the focus strategy,
however, is that the niche characteristically is small and may not be significant or large

Preventing Complications From Gestational Diabetes
Promotion of a Healthy Lifestyle to Prevent Complications from Gestational Diabetes
Gestational diabetes, glucose intolerance with onset or first recognition occurring during pregnancy, is
a problem more pregnant women are facing. The exact prevalence rate of gestational diabetes mellitus
is unknown but in the United States it is estimated to affect anywhere from one to 14 percent of
pregnancies (Desisto, Shin, Sharma, 2014). There are several risk factors which increase a woman s
risk for gestational diabetes. Some of these risks include: family history of diabetes mellitus, previous
history of gestational diabetes, advanced maternal age, previous infant weighing 9 pounds or more at

Complications to the fetus include: macrosomia, hypoglycemia, neural tube defects, preterm delivery,
shoulder dystocia, hyperbilirubinemia, and being large for gestational age (Elkins Smith Taylor, 2013)
(Kim, 2010). So, the purpose of this paper is to discuss the care management strategies to promote a
healthy lifestyle in obese pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus, to control
their gestational diabetes mellitus without the intervention of insulin treatment and to prevent
complications from gestational diabetes mellitus.
Care Management Process
Expected Outcomes Gestational diabetes is a significant diagnosis in pregnancy but it is expected that
obese women diagnosed with gestational diabetes will be able to control their diabetes without the
intervention of insulin treatment. They should be able to do this through lifestyle changes. By
controlling their gestational diabetes mellitus, the women will be able to reduce the risk or even
prevent maternal complications and fetal complications associated with gestational diabetes mellitus.
Assessments
The first step in managing gestational diabetes to reduce risks of maternal and fetal complications, one
must be diagnosed with it. To be diagnosed women go through a screening process. The American
College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Diabetes Association recommend that
all women should have their initial screening

Abstract
Prior to 1994, student registration at Newcastle University involved students being registered in a

their department. After registration this information was then transferred to a computerised format.
The University decided that the entire registration process was to be computerised for the Autumn of
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The high availability requirement implies that the computerised registration system must be able to
tolerate a reasonable number of machine and network related failures, and the consistency requirement
implies that the integrity of stored data (student records) must be maintained in the presence of
concurrent access from users and the types of failures just mentioned. It was expected that most
human errors, such as incorrectly inputting data, would be detected by the system as they occurred,
but some off line data manipulation would be necessary for errors which had not been foreseen.
Tolerance against catastrophic failures (such as complete electrical power failure, or a fire destroying
much of the University infrastructure) although desirable, was not considered within the remit of the
registration system. A solution that would require the University buying and installing specialist fault
tolerant computing systems, such as Tandem [1] or Stratus [2] was not considered economically
feasible. The only option worth exploring was exploiting the University s existing computing
resources. Like most other universities, Newcastle has hundreds of networked computers (Unix
workstations, PCs, Macs) scattered throughout the campus. A solution that could make use of these
resources and achieve availability by deploying software implemented fault tolerance techniques
certainly looked attractive.

Industrialization Changed America
Discuss some of the ways that industrialization changed America. Give some concrete examples and
back up your answers with as many facts as possible. Industrialization changed American in many
ways through manufacturing in history that affected our future in goods and resources.
Industrialization started in the eighteenth century in Britain. Britain s system involved machinery and
factories; something American did not have but wanted. America was recruiting Britain artisans;
Britain made laws prohibiting the export of workers to American so assure no competition arises.
However, much of the industrialization in American came from ideas of the British just made more
efficient. With that being said, Paul Moody and Francis Lowell use to work

Okonkwo s Society
According to the Merriam Webster dictionary the definition of primitive as an adjective is: belonging
to, or seeming to come from an early time in the very ancient past. As well as not having a written
language, advanced technology, etc. However, the second part of this definition is: having very simple
and basic way in what is not modern and that does not show much skill. This is the part that has lead
me to take the stance on not classifying the people of Okonkwo s society as primitive. The first
chapter of the book focuses on Unoka, Okonkwo s father; he was seen as a lazy and wasteful man to
the community. While reading the story told about Okeye, we see a sense of the modern world through
the asking of the repayment of the borrowed money.

The Devil s Arithmetic Analysis
Contradicting the glowing reviews of this novel, there are many things that can be improved about
The Devil s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen. The point of view, as it came from a twelve year old, withheld
some important points and perspectives. Although it gave an opportunity for some serious character
development, certain scenes were trivialized, such as the dinner. Hannah described her discomfort for
most of the time instead of focusing on the importance and meaning of certain moments. Because of
this, the reader doesn t have an opportunity to learn more about modern Jewish tradition, something
that seems almost obvious to have in this type of book. Although the concept of time travel and her
disappearing memories were very interesting, one doesn t

The Study Of Human Psychology Essay
Introduction
The study of human psychology comprises many elements to best understand human behaviour,
through theoretical perspectives on aspects including behavioural, cognitive and personality
psychology (Caponecchia, 2012). In the modern era, psychology has been recognised as one of the
foundations during learning, with individuals having different abilities and learning rates, it is
essential that tutors teach considering the individual differences students possess (Nezhad and Vahedi,
2011). Instructors have been shown to teach in their own preferred learning method, which may not
necessarily be the most appropriate style for the students. This creates loss of motivation in the
students and lower learning rates (Gailbraith and Saunders, 1987). Potentially, this is due to learners
preferring to learn within their comfort zone whilst utilizing their dominant learning style (Partridge,
1983). Teachers need to be aware of the different teaching methods out there and have an
understanding of them for ongoing refinement and success (Vaughn and Baker, 2001). There is also an
importance in recognising individuals not just for their abilities but also for their personalities and
motivation (Entwistle, 2013). Similarly, whilst undertaking any sort of leadership role, it is just as
important to be self aware of your own traits including emotions, goals and identity, in order to create
positive relationships and maintain sustainable performance (Avolio and Gardner, 2005).

The Tridentine Rite And The Novus Ordo Rite
The two most common rites of the Mass are the Tridentine rite and the Novus Ordo rite. The
Tridentine rite was used before Vatican II and is now, mostly, replaced by the Novus Ordo rite. These
two rites have many similarities and differences. One of the most distinct differences is that the
Tridentine rite is said in the language of the Church, that being Latin, while the Novus Ordo rite is
said in any native language of that area. Another obvious difference is that, in the Tridentine rite, the
priest faces the high altar while, in the Novus Ordo rite, the priest faces the congregation. One other
difference is that, in the Tridentine rite, most of the responses are said by the altar boys and rarely said
by the congregation. When one who

A Brief Note On The National Mediation Board
Employees generally seek union representation because they feel their workplace rights from their
employer is not being met, or that they have an unfair disadvantage in regards to any needs or
workplace desires. They turn to unions to help bridge the gap and ease the power differential that
exists between employers and their employees. In order for a group of employees to obtain
representation, they must undergo an election process to choose their union or decide if they, as a unit,
want a union at all (Cox, Bok, Gorman, Finkin, 2012). Here, we will discuss the history of and
changes to the manner in which employee votes have been counted to determine an outcome in these
elections.
1. Prior to the National Mediation Board s (NMB) 2010 rule change, what was the primary difference
between how the election results were counted under the NLRA and the Railway Labor Act (RLA)?
For approximately seventy five years the only option an employee had to submit a vote against union
representation was to not vote at all. Under the Railway Labor Act, it specifically identifies that
employees shall have the right to determine who shall be representative of the craft or class 45 U.S.C
$ 152 but does not define that a specific no union choice was available. This was further exemplified
by the National Mediation Board who recognized non voters as representing a no vote and/or being
against union representation. Under this pretense and applicable to the ballot, which only

I Enjoy The Forest
I enjoy the forest. I liked walking through the forest and taking in the sunlight, the oxygen, the sight of
the natural and strong trees. Seeing little squirrels and other rodents and insects scurry across the
ground is a sight to behold when you live in the city for so long. Now that I have been getting out
more often and seeing the sights that the world can offer more often, this feels like a home away from
home. In the noon, a gentle glow, courtesy of the sun, peeks through the canopy above, but due to the
density of the tree tops, it still remains rather dim in some areas. These dim areas are usually damp,
and contain fungus, and obviously, as we all know, (for the most part), that you shouldn t eat any wild
mushrooms, which I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well, it still is, but the once completely solid rock has a very unusual gash in it. The path that I usually
take to and from this place is coated in a slime, and that same slime runs back up into the gash. There
it trails into another direction, this time up into a tree. Could this rock be more than it seems? As I
attempt to identify the substance, small, damaged parts of the rock begin to fall apart. This effect then
snowballs, and eventually larger pieces of the rock fall off due to structural instability, revealing a hole
in the ground, brimming with the sludge. Out of this pit comes a very sharp, clawed, black hand, and
directly above the arm flails a scythe like appendage. Such a creature cannot exist in this forest that I
am willing to call home, right? This beast gets it s second hand onto land, and begins to raise itself out
of the pool. Dripping with slime, it s huge jaws and very long fangs become exposed. It s bladed teeth
gnash and with deep, growling vocalizations, it begins to completely lift itself out of the bath, and it
stands on it s very, skinny feet. It has very broad shoulders, but it s body quickly narrows out,
revealing ribs that puncture it s own chest and a caved in stomach. The definitions of it s bones are
very prominent, most identifiable in it s pelvis and it s calves, in which it s skin at these points is so
tight that there might as well be exposed bone. This creature is extremely tall, if I could guess it looks

Resilient Leaders
Organizations and their leadership teams collectively, must possess the means of making a major
impact on many consumer markets around the world. Regardless of the size, these two elements set
the tone for many consumer lifestyles. For organizations and leaders being in sync with one another,
they must form a bond that encompasses their ability to trust. This level of trust should be in line with
how an organization functions and whether it will be able to withstand the test of time within a
competitive market. Leaders should have the knowledge and skills needed to bring the ... Show more

Selfless service, or servant leadership, is marked by authenticity, humility and compassion; all
qualities desirable in and needed from leaders (Coetzer, Bussin and Geldenhuys, 2017). By far, the
most important qualifier for each of these three topics is that they are biblical principles rooted in
scriptural truth. This will be highlighted later in a biblical integration. The principles of selfless
service, character and tribulation each can be implemented strategically to benefit both the leader and
the organization.
Strategies
Selfless Service Selfless service is the practice of altruism and is marked by self sacrifice for the needs
of others (Dees, 2013). The servant leader is one that works towards a goal that benefits others while
building character and respect of his or her followers (Varghese, Nolan, Bihm, 2017). Selfless service
is a mentality that some are born with and others must learn. The concept of selfless service is not a
new concept developed in recent years by military leaders but was modeled by the acts of Jesus in the
Bible.
Selfless service is part of great leadership and with it produces character and recognizable
competence. Character goes hand in hand with selfless service and a great leader cannot have either
character or competence, he or she must have both. Without selfless service, a leader is simply a
careerist, in it for self acknowledgement and advancement. As a leader

Implementation Of The Sdn Switch Core, Interconnection Of...
This section contains information about the implementation of the SDN switch core, interconnection
of multiple SDN switches with the SDN controller (PowerPC) and the attacker nodes (Microblaze).
The main functionality of the SDN switch is to modify packet header fields based on the flow table
and forward it to the next port(s). The SDN controller is responsible for programming the flow table in
each switch and monitor these switches to observe each packet flow. The Microblaze processor, acting
as attacker nodes plays the role of an outside network and transmits packets at different programmable
rates to the SDN switch network using an array of packet drivers. The big picture showing the
connection between different components is given in Figure 3.1. The chapter is divided into two main
sections. Section 3.1 describes the details of hardware implementation and section 3.4 describes the
software implementation. 3.1 SDN Switch The Figure 3.2 shows the implementation of a 4 × 4
programmable switch implemented with store and forward architecture. It contains multiple internal
registers for software access to provide insight about the traffic flowing through the switch. This
switch is a simplified version of NetFPGA s 1G Switch [21]. The logic is customized so that multiple
switches can fit in to one FPGA. This switch provides 10 tuple matching to identify a flow and can
support 32 flows at a time. The flow lookup table is implemented in a hash table which is programmed

  • 2. The Voodoo Religion And Its Stereotypes New Religion Movements What is the Voodoo Religion, and its Stereotypes By: Yann Landy Simboro Sutdent ID: 100127310 Prof: Chris Cutting Tuesday April 15 2017 One don t have to look very far to find links and ties with Voodoo to western popular culture. We can see from Zombie movies, to different types of horror movies how the Voodoo religion have been stereotypically viewed. Novelty stores sell pin filled dolls to aim a public ranging from miscreant romantic partners to unreasonable bosses. Even Runescape (an online gaming platform) has its own Voodoo brand, and can choose to be in different Voodoo clans. These chops feature witch doctors, jinxed Hoodpiles and punctured Voodoo dolls. This process is said to be reciprocal, and follower must look after Lwa by performing these rituals, which can sometimes come in in the form of animal sacrifice. In the other hand some Voodooist ritual allow followers to thank the spirit for their protection, blessings or good fortune. To maintain a good relationship with the Lwa, or stay in good terms followers must all conduct themselves properly according to the customs of the community and the religion. In this way one can see how Voodoo can influence a persons day by day decision, activities, and decision making. Part of voodoo belief is that the Lwa communicate with followers through possession. The Lwa takes place of the host, and temporarily displaces its soul. According to this belief the medium cannot feel pain or become injured while he is in trans. The lwa speaks through the host giving intructions, advices or prophecies of future events. In some cases the Lwa can rebuke the host for failing to perform their duties. This idea of being possessed unites two different types Voodoo practitioners. One of them primarly existing in northern, and central portion of West African coast. This type of voodoo is the oldest known Voodoo and goes back to 6000 years ago from to Fon and Kongo. The other is practiced primarly in Haiti as well as in parts of north and sourth America. Books that explore either form of voodoo often explain the religion through series of stories and anecdotes instead of using a straightforward analysis. This is also the main reason voodoo is soo widely seen in a stereotypical way in the modern western world. The reason as to why there is no straight forward representation; and also the leading factor as to why the Voodoo religion is seen in such a way is due to three

  • 4. My Adventure Essay As blood ran through my system like race fuel, as I raced around the ancient temple. The pounding of my heart upon my chest like a v8 in a stock car, meant I was running at 110%. I stared back at the temple was crumbling, I was almost to the window I could taste the humid jungle air already.I could feel my legs burning, my feet losing sensation and my lungs gasping for air. Finally, with the last of my energy I push off of the ledge and plummeted towards fate, as my life rested in God s hands as I fell 150ft into the abyss. I could bring these tall tales to college, but I rather talk about my personal adventure. The story of my adventure to Paris to experience the rich French culture. To explore the Spanish culture while I was in Spanish immersion. I may not be an explorer of ancient ruins, however I still explore different cultures, as well as explored unique opportunities that expanded my knowledge and skills, all this has added up to unique attributes I hold, and are willing to share. Traveling around the world may be a dream for some, but for me I rather explore the world. I ve been to many tourist spots, it a devastating sight to see so many people take a photo, stare at whatever it is and then leave. They never stay and learn about the culture and history of that spot. I m so grateful that I was a part of the Spanish immersion program of my school. I was able to learn so much, and I gained a greater view of the world. Currently I m no longer enrolled, however I took ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Neverwhere By Neil Gaiman Summary Neverwhere You Would Expect To Be Imagine being forgotten, lost, and terrified. To know where you re going but not where you are. To have all of your friends, family and even fiancée forget about you. Imagine being introduced to almost whole new world, and not necessarily a good one, a world you wish you never knew about or never thought about. In Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, I will inspect how suspense is built into the novel by the setting. Neverwhere takes place in the city of London. The main character Richard lives in a small apartment and has a fiancée. One day while walking to dinner Richard finds a bleeding girl on the side of the road. He helped her like a good samaritan would have, but little did he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People can see him in London below and in London about. Regular people who have never heard of London below or thought of it cannot. For example, Hey. Hang on. You can see me. (P67) Here Richard realizes there is still hope, that he is not completely invisible to the world. Another point is that normal people can be hated and both London below and regular London. For example He put his dagger away, in the furs of his robe. Then he smiled at Richard with yellow teeth. This was after Lord Ray Speaker wanted to slit his throat. Normal people are not especially liked in London Below, some not even regular London. This builds suspense into the novel because we know that anything can happen anywhere, no matter who you ... Over 140 players competed in the LPGA event, which included several ancillary events in the buildup to the three day tournament in support of STEM education and the Indianapolis tech scene. The LPGA event not only highlighted STEM and tech, but showcased the Indianapolis Motor Speedway s course, the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course. Also, several attendees were there because of work or worked for one of the sponsored organizations. The average age at the event was early 40s with more than 50% of attendees being college graduates. Based off of the demographics of attendees, I would say golf is considered a favorite sport to over half of those in attendance. History The IWiT Championship is a first time event with a commitment to continue to stay in Indianapolis for three years. The tournament has committed to financially support local initiatives through marketing platforms. In its first year, the tournament drew thousands of attendees each day. Not only did it bring a vast amount of attendees, the event exposed attendees to the technology industry. Impacts The economic impact of IWiT resulted in national and international travel to the event, resulting in hotel bookings. IWiT enhanced the continued sport reputation that Indianapolis upholds. Also, the event drove direct facility operational expenditures for the Brickyard Crossing course and capital investments to improve the grounds. The tournament engaged with outside courses and country clubs to provoke day trips and overnight trips to attend the event. By staging the event, I would presume that authorities lost money even though the city benefited greatly in terms of additional spending. • 7. Trigger Warnings Examples Trigger warnings are being enforced around America in hopes of improving the way college students learn. Trigger warnings originated on the internet as a way to flag certain material that could be harmful to others. Many professors are now pushing for trigger warnings as a way to warn students that ideas within their material could offend or emotionally harm them. While they are being implemented across the country, their effects on students are proving to be more harmful than helpful because they often hinder students education rather than further develop it. Applying trigger warnings may cause professors to choose to negatively alter their material in order to attempt to teach it without offending his or her students. In the article Survey ... Donald A. Downs, author and professor of political science, law, and journalism at the University of Wisconsin, explains how trigger warnings can negatively affect students. Downs states, Education should expose students to the depths of the human condition, which unavoidably involves matters of good and evil, life and death. He then claims, Trigger warnings assume that many students are not capable of handling the responsibilities of adult citizenship. Students cannot possibly be expected to mentally or emotionally grow when they are constantly being sheltered from the real world and all of its sometimes painful disputes. Trigger warnings cater to the sensitive students and grant them no room to grow up on their own. Many colleges are being overwhelmed by the positive effects that may come with trigger warnings, they should heavily consider the negative ones as well. Enforcing trigger warnings in hopes of furthering college education would unleash a surge of flaws into a school. Though trigger warnings may have few upsides, if put into action they will prove themselves to be destructive to a school s learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Atticus Qualities In To Kill A Mockingbird In To Kill a Mockingbird, a novel by Harper Lee, Atticus displays many admirable qualities. He is a figure many look up to, and many respect. His emotions never get the better of him, and he is always calm and collected. He is kind and pleasant to everyone, no matter how they treat him. He loves his children a lot, and raises them to the best of his ability, even though people criticize him for raising them the way he is. Because of all the reading Atticus does, he is very knowledgeable, and although he is definitely one of the smartest people in the town, he never brags and always stays humble. Atticus has numerous admirable qualities; he is loving, amiable, and humble. One of Atticus s best characteristics was his humble nature. Although he was a very smart and skilled person, he never bragged over anything. Atticus shooting Tim Johnson was one great example of this. One example of this is when Atticus goes down to the jailhouse to confront a group of potentially dangerous men, and his children follow him there. Knowing that the situation could get ugly, Atticus immediately tries to get his children to leave and go home. One slightly different example comes soon after when Atticus demonstrates the one way he shows physical affection for his children. As they passed under a streetlight, Atticus reached out and massaged Jem s hair, his one gesture of affection. There is a controversy over whether or not America should be allowing these illegal people in, and whether or not they should receive privileges reserved for American citizens. The humanitarian argument is to let everyone who needs help in and to allow them to establish residency and be afforded all of the privileges of a citizen, which would include welfare, public schools, etc. However, the overall state of the country must be considered over that of the happiness and comfort of non citizens. When the Irish came to America they were persecuted and discriminated against, many not being able to find work being turned away with signs such as Irish need not apply. An estimated eleven million illegal immigrants are in the United States today. That is an increase of roughly one third since 2000, when there were 8.5 million illegal immigrants, according to the Center for American Progress.(Goldfuss) Also eighty six percent of illegal immigrants have been living in America for seven years or longer.(LeMay) Many argue that becoming a legal immigrant is next to impossible and that it is too hard and the process takes too long , meaning that by the standards they have created there are not enough visas awarded and the process to legally emigrate takes too long, so they decide to take it upon themselves to commit a crime and cross the United States southern border. • 10. Examples Of Irony In Lamb To The Slaughter In Lamb to the Slaughter the author, Roald Dahl writes about a young, pregnant woman named Mary Maloney waiting for the return of her husband. When Mr. Maloney arrives, he disrupts the usual domestic routine the couple had put in place by claiming he wants a divorce. Overcome with emotions Mary takes the audience by surprise. She kills her husband. While this may seem like a horror or tragic story. However, the irony of it all causes the audience to view it instead, as a dark humored comedy. The title itself is ironic thought the reader doesn t realize it until the end if the story. Lambs are often seen as a symbol for purity or innocence. The title Lamb to the Slaughter would be the same as saying killing innocence or the death of purity. The irony of the title itself is that a symbol of innocence is used as a murder weapon. The irony in the story doesn t really start until the end of the second page when Mary kills her husband and then in the most calm manner says, All right... so I ve killed him (Dahl 3). Everything the reader has seen up to this point about Mary s character is that she is docile, little housewife that will do anything to make her husband happy. She eagerly awaits her husband s return from work and does everything she can to make him comfortable rushing to pour him a drink or offering to get his slippers. Taking a piece of meat and using it to crush one s husband s skull is the exact opposite of these traits that have been seen previously in Mary. Add ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Three Major Characteristics Of An Educated Person Characteristics of an Educated Person Introduction A person is made up of a variety of different characteristics, ranging widely from positive to negative. When thinking of an educated person the mind may first consider, as I did, a book smart, motivated person who holds degrees or titles. Upon further thought, that image was quickly eliminated. An educated person is much more than books, titles and degrees. Some may not have a college degree or have attended school at all. There are various qualities that truly educated people possess. Many people enjoy the exploration of knowledge and a fulfillment. Emmons (2003) suggests A meaningful life is one that is characterized by a deep sense of purpose, a sense of inner conviction, and assurance that in spite of one s current plight, life has significance (p. 138). Lifelong learning, open mindedness and a sense of curiosity are three major characteristics of an educated person. Lifelong Learners Learning is not memorizing information, learning is not following rubrics, and among many other things that learning is not, it is not something that can be done for you. According to Haydar and Kadi (2012), lifelong learners recognize that learning is not confined to childhood or the classroom, but takes place throughout life and in a variety of situations (pg. 4093). Lifelong learners are enthusiastic about learning and this passion for learning reflects the value of interest in and inquiry about the world in general and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Superstitious And Mythical Figure Of The Vampire The superstitious and mythical figure of the vampire has been seen throughout all era s off history. It is a figure of mythology that is transcendent in an abundance of cultures and regions. The most significant aspect of the vampire is its ability to redefine itself throughout history and continued to stay relevant to society. The most modern and commonly known definition of vampires is a preternatural being know to be a corpse that resurrects from the dead and lives of the living, by draining humans of their blood, until a it is impaled by a wooden stick or burned. In ancient history we see the myth of the vampire appearing in burial traditions, showing vast similarities to the modern day definition of the vampire. We see this appear in various cultures and regions like the Tibetans, ancient Babylonia, Egypt, Greece, and Rome (Wotherspoon, 6 8). In The Tibetan Book of the Dead, it is explained by Lama Kazi Dawa that, they believe if a spirit sees its corpse, it will try to reclaim its body resulting in vampirism. For this reason, it was common for Tibetans to opt out of an earth burial and chose a fire burial or in modern terms cremation (Dawa Samdup, 26). In ancient Babylonia, a tablet was found with an inscription that explains their burial traditions. In this inscription, it states the Babylonians belief that if specific burial traditions where not followed an evil force will come from their grave (Summers, 220). It was just fascinating to me to go off and explore. From a young age, I knew the Universe was infinite but tapped into the basic human instinct to explore. I would play with models, and use computer programs to look at planets and stars. I was given a telescope when I was ten or eleven for Christmas and became even more entrenched with space. It was just always fascinating to me and to this day it still is. That s why when NASA announced that they had found seven exoplanets orbiting a star not too far away, called Trappist. When I say not too far away it is still not reachable for humans at this point. Trappist is two hundred thirty five trillion miles away, or forty light years. It takes the light from Trappist forty years to reach us. If we could travel the speed of light, which is nowhere near possible, it would take forty years to get there. Persuasive Essay On Legalize Medical Marijuana Many medically ill patients experience agonizing pain everyday that they can not easily control with regular pain medicine, so what s the next best thing? There have been many recent cases where medical patients have used medical marijuana for therapeutic uses and found that it had slowed the progression of their disease or helped cure it. Medical marijuana has started to become more popular with medical communities and researchers. Medical marijuana can affect many things in a positive way such as financial situations and social aspects, while having benefits on medical illnesses. Medical marijuana that does not contain the THC drug should be legalized in the United States because it would provide therapeutic benefits without making the user feel high. The District of Columbia and approximately thirty states have laws that allow some sort of medical marijuana use. Since there is about half of the 50 states that have legalized medical marijuana it would be tough for patients to travel to another state if it is not legalized through the United States. The United States needs to legalize medical marijuana so that patients who are traveling to hospitals throughout the country, such as the Mayo Clinic, do not need to worry about restrictions with their marijuana. If a person traveling to the Mayo Clinic where to get pulled over, they could suffer great fines, or even face jail time, because Minnesota might not support legalized medical marijuana. Even though they have been present, unchanged, and accessible for so long, below the surface of simple construction, they hold the ability to prepare one for the real world. In the mindset of a lego builder, there are several different phases. There was a school closer to where they lived, however, it was an all white school. Linda and her family saw the segregation systems as a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment and took it to court. Federal district courts claimed the segregation was harmful to African American youths, however due to the similar qualities the all black and all white schools shared, it was deemed fully constitutional under the separate, but equal doctrine. The case was taken to the Supreme Court and the court expressed that even though the schools shared similar facilities, segregated schools could never be equal. Generic strategies were first presented in two books by Professor Michael Porter of the Harvard Business School (Porter, 1980, 1985). Porter (1980, 1985) suggested that some of the most basic choices faced by companies are essentially the scope of the markets that the company would serve and how the company would compete in the selected markets. Companies employ this strategy by focusing on the areas in a market where there is the least amount of competition (Pearson, 1999). Organisations can make use of the focus strategy by focusing on a specific niche in the market and offering specialised products for that niche. This is why the focus strategy is also sometimes referred to as the niche strategy (Lynch, 2003). Therefore, competitive advantage can be achieved only in the company s target segments by employing the focus strategy. The company can make use of the cost leadership or differentiation approach with regard to the focus strategy. In that, a company using the cost focus approach would aim for a cost advantage in its target segment only. If a company is using the differentiation focus approach, it would aim for differentiation in its target segment only, and not the overall market. This strategy provides the company the possibility to charge a premium price for superior quality (differentiation focus) or by offering a low price product to a small and specialised group of buyers (cost focus). Ferrari and Rolls Royce are classic examples of niche players in the automobile industry. Both these companies have a niche of premium products available at a premium price. However what if being failed to be noted is that building a wall is only regressive. Building this wall with one of America s closest allies will only put a strain in our relationship with not only Mexico, but the rest of the world. Trump wants to alienate and attack all Mexicans legal and illegal in the United States, as opposed to Jill Stein who wants to be able to provide for them. Stein support immigrants rights and wants to create a welcoming path to citizenship for immigrants.Wanting to put the discrimination to an end, Stein wants to provide everyone with equal rights and access to health care. Her platform on Health Care as a Right states, No restrictions based on pre existing illness, employment, immigration status, age, or any other category. Donald Trump wants to kick people out of America thinking that is how America becomes better again, but he is wrong. Jill Stein wants to halt deportations, including the shameful practice of night raids being used to terrorize refugee families. People come to the United States to seek help. So why should we refuse them entry or kick them out if they re already ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My parents sacrificed many things for us to have a better life, and I won t let them down. I was born in Zinapecuaro Michoacan, when I was seven years old I came to Salinas California with all my family. I remembered when I was a child my dad used to come every year to work on the fields. Then, he would go back each year for a short period of time, and I was waiting for him with happiness. As I grew up I realized that my parents wanted me to have a better life which they never had. Because my parents worked all day to bring food to our table, my brothers and I didn t spent too much time with them like we would like. My childhood was not easy at all, but I had the most amazing parents. Also, having their love made the happiest girl in world because that was enough for me. When I was a little girl I dreamed to be a doctor, but I changed my mind. Since high school I wanted to join the military, but I could not because of my weight. So, in my second semester during college; I decided to join the army to have a professional career and at the same time took a break for college. For all my experiences that have happened to me; I can only say that joining the Army was the best decision I have taken. In addition, I learned to live by the army values which are loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage. These values helped me ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Industrialization changed American in many ways through manufacturing in history that affected our future in goods and resources. Industrialization started in the eighteenth century in Britain. Britain s system involved machinery and factories; something American did not have but wanted. America was recruiting Britain artisans; Britain made laws prohibiting the export of workers to American so assure no competition arises. • 43. Okonkwo s Society According to the Merriam Webster dictionary the definition of primitive as an adjective is: belonging to, or seeming to come from an early time in the very ancient past. As well as not having a written language, advanced technology, etc. However, the second part of this definition is: having very simple and basic way in what is not modern and that does not show much skill. This is the part that has lead me to take the stance on not classifying the people of Okonkwo s society as primitive. The first chapter of the book focuses on Unoka, Okonkwo s father; he was seen as a lazy and wasteful man to the community. While reading the story told about Okeye, we see a sense of the modern world through the asking of the repayment of the borrowed money. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Devil s Arithmetic Analysis Contradicting the glowing reviews of this novel, there are many things that can be improved about The Devil s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen. The point of view, as it came from a twelve year old, withheld some important points and perspectives. Although it gave an opportunity for some serious character development, certain scenes were trivialized, such as the dinner. Hannah described her discomfort for most of the time instead of focusing on the importance and meaning of certain moments. Because of this, the reader doesn t have an opportunity to learn more about modern Jewish tradition, something that seems almost obvious to have in this type of book. Although the concept of time travel and her disappearing memories were very interesting, one doesn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Study Of Human Psychology Essay Introduction The study of human psychology comprises many elements to best understand human behaviour, through theoretical perspectives on aspects including behavioural, cognitive and personality psychology (Caponecchia, 2012). In the modern era, psychology has been recognised as one of the foundations during learning, with individuals having different abilities and learning rates, it is essential that tutors teach considering the individual differences students possess (Nezhad and Vahedi, 2011). Instructors have been shown to teach in their own preferred learning method, which may not necessarily be the most appropriate style for the students. This creates loss of motivation in the students and lower learning rates (Gailbraith and Saunders, 1987). Potentially, this is due to learners preferring to learn within their comfort zone whilst utilizing their dominant learning style (Partridge, 1983). Teachers need to be aware of the different teaching methods out there and have an understanding of them for ongoing refinement and success (Vaughn and Baker, 2001). There is also an importance in recognising individuals not just for their abilities but also for their personalities and motivation (Entwistle, 2013). Similarly, whilst undertaking any sort of leadership role, it is just as important to be self aware of your own traits including emotions, goals and identity, in order to create positive relationships and maintain sustainable performance (Avolio and Gardner, 2005). The Tridentine rite was used before Vatican II and is now, mostly, replaced by the Novus Ordo rite. These two rites have many similarities and differences. One of the most distinct differences is that the Tridentine rite is said in the language of the Church, that being Latin, while the Novus Ordo rite is said in any native language of that area. Another obvious difference is that, in the Tridentine rite, the priest faces the high altar while, in the Novus Ordo rite, the priest faces the congregation. One other difference is that, in the Tridentine rite, most of the responses are said by the altar boys and rarely said by the congregation. When one who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. A Brief Note On The National Mediation Board Employees generally seek union representation because they feel their workplace rights from their employer is not being met, or that they have an unfair disadvantage in regards to any needs or workplace desires. They turn to unions to help bridge the gap and ease the power differential that exists between employers and their employees. In order for a group of employees to obtain representation, they must undergo an election process to choose their union or decide if they, as a unit, want a union at all (Cox, Bok, Gorman, Finkin, 2012). Here, we will discuss the history of and changes to the manner in which employee votes have been counted to determine an outcome in these elections. 1. Prior to the National Mediation Board s (NMB) 2010 rule change, what was the primary difference between how the election results were counted under the NLRA and the Railway Labor Act (RLA)? For approximately seventy five years the only option an employee had to submit a vote against union representation was to not vote at all. Under the Railway Labor Act, it specifically identifies that employees shall have the right to determine who shall be representative of the craft or class 45 U.S.C $ 152 but does not define that a specific no union choice was available. This was further exemplified by the National Mediation Board who recognized non voters as representing a no vote and/or being against union representation. Under this pretense and applicable to the ballot, which only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. I Enjoy The Forest I enjoy the forest. I liked walking through the forest and taking in the sunlight, the oxygen, the sight of the natural and strong trees. Seeing little squirrels and other rodents and insects scurry across the ground is a sight to behold when you live in the city for so long. Now that I have been getting out more often and seeing the sights that the world can offer more often, this feels like a home away from home. In the noon, a gentle glow, courtesy of the sun, peeks through the canopy above, but due to the density of the tree tops, it still remains rather dim in some areas. These dim areas are usually damp, and contain fungus, and obviously, as we all know, (for the most part), that you shouldn t eat any wild mushrooms, which I ... The path that I usually take to and from this place is coated in a slime, and that same slime runs back up into the gash. There it trails into another direction, this time up into a tree. Could this rock be more than it seems? As I attempt to identify the substance, small, damaged parts of the rock begin to fall apart. This effect then snowballs, and eventually larger pieces of the rock fall off due to structural instability, revealing a hole in the ground, brimming with the sludge. Out of this pit comes a very sharp, clawed, black hand, and directly above the arm flails a scythe like appendage. Such a creature cannot exist in this forest that I am willing to call home, right? This beast gets it s second hand onto land, and begins to raise itself out of the pool. Dripping with slime, it s huge jaws and very long fangs become exposed. It s bladed teeth gnash and with deep, growling vocalizations, it begins to completely lift itself out of the bath, and it stands on it s very, skinny feet. It has very broad shoulders, but it s body quickly narrows out, revealing ribs that puncture it s own chest and a caved in stomach. Servant Leaders Resilient Leaders Christine Bowman, Terrance Beard, Katharine Balich, Eduardo Barnet, Andrew Beasley Liberty University Resilient Leaders Organizations and their leadership teams collectively, must possess the means of making a major impact on many consumer markets around the world. Regardless of the size, these two elements set the tone for many consumer lifestyles. For organizations and leaders being in sync with one another, they must form a bond that encompasses their ability to trust. This level of trust should be in line with how an organization functions and whether it will be able to withstand the test of time within a competitive market. Selfless service, or servant leadership, is marked by authenticity, humility and compassion; all qualities desirable in and needed from leaders (Coetzer, Bussin and Geldenhuys, 2017). By far, the most important qualifier for each of these three topics is that they are biblical principles rooted in scriptural truth. This will be highlighted later in a biblical integration. The principles of selfless service, character and tribulation each can be implemented strategically to benefit both the leader and the organization. Strategies Selfless Service Selfless service is the practice of altruism and is marked by self sacrifice for the needs of others (Dees, 2013). The servant leader is one that works towards a goal that benefits others while building character and respect of his or her followers (Varghese, Nolan, Bihm, 2017). Selfless service is a mentality that some are born with and others must learn. The concept of selfless service is not a new concept developed in recent years by military leaders but was modeled by the acts of Jesus in the Bible. Selfless service is part of great leadership and with it produces character and recognizable competence. Character goes hand in hand with selfless service and a great leader cannot have either character or competence, he or she must have both. Without selfless service, a leader is simply a careerist, in it for self acknowledgement and advancement. As a leader ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Implementation Of The Sdn Switch Core, Interconnection Of... This section contains information about the implementation of the SDN switch core, interconnection of multiple SDN switches with the SDN controller (PowerPC) and the attacker nodes (Microblaze). The main functionality of the SDN switch is to modify packet header fields based on the flow table and forward it to the next port(s). The SDN controller is responsible for programming the flow table in each switch and monitor these switches to observe each packet flow. The Microblaze processor, acting as attacker nodes plays the role of an outside network and transmits packets at different programmable rates to the SDN switch network using an array of packet drivers. The big picture showing the connection between different components is given in Figure 3.1. The chapter is divided into two main sections. Section 3.1 describes the details of hardware implementation and section 3.4 describes the software implementation. 3.1 SDN Switch The Figure 3.2 shows the implementation of a 4 × 4 programmable switch implemented with store and forward architecture. It contains multiple internal registers for software access to provide insight about the traffic flowing through the switch. This switch is a simplified version of NetFPGA s 1G Switch [21]. The logic is customized so that multiple switches can fit in to one FPGA. This switch provides 10 tuple matching to identify a flow and can support 32 flows at a time. The flow lookup table is implemented in a hash table which is programmed by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
