The Railroad Bride Analysis
Consider the painting The Railroad Bride, Argenteuil by Claude Monet. This artwork looks
simple, but uses geometry and one point linear perspective. Monet uses a sense of opposition is
created by the alternating rhythm of light to dark established by the bridge pillars and the color
orange and blue in both water and smoke from the train above. The light and dark areas given
the picture asymmetrical balance between the dark and light areas. Monet uses one point linear
perspective to create the bride. He uses proportions in the relationship between the parts of the
object and the whole object by using geometry. Monet uses grid like geometry. The wooden
structure support under the bridge is the same overall structure of grid and diagonals. Other
lines are the apparent in the two diagonals as well as opposing directional lines of the train and
the boat. The smoke shows direction of the wind and that the boat is moving that way as well.
The visual weight/balance of the sail boat is smaller than the bridge. I believe the focal point is
the new bridge for the train and new travels was is focal point in the picture. The asymmetrical
balance of the composition 8 1: Explain way the following mediums evolved in time. The
evolving in paper went through a lot of phases. Before the 15th hundredths paper was expensive.
Paper was not made in the Western world until the 13th century in Italy. Before then it was made
out of fiber from scraps of cloth. Another way a form of paper was made is from papyrus and
parchment which was invention of the ancient Egyptians sometime around 4000 BCE and was
made by pounding and pasting together strips of the papyrus plant. Parchment was popular by the
Romans after the second century BCE, but was used as paper many years before that. Paper
arrived in the West through trade and which had learned the process from China originally.
Papermaking was introduced into the Arabic world sometime in the 18th century and had a
thriving book trade. It was not till a gentlemen from Germany that invented the printing press that
books became wide spread. Due to the large amount of cloth rags need, paper remained an
expensive till the middle of the 19th century when wood pulp was discovered. This in

Retributivism Vs Utilitarian Theory
The concept of morality and moral rules and laws has as its corollary, the concept of rule breaking
or acting immorally. A common response to immoral behavior is punishments, which leads me to
ask the question: how is punishment justified? In his article The Classic Debate , American legal
philosopher Joel Feinberg lays out the main points of discourse between the two major theories of
justified punishment, which I will deconstruct. Feinberg asserts that there are two main theories
used to justify punishment: Retributivism and Utilitarianism. These two theories supposedly oppose
each other such that they are mutually exclusive and jointly exhaustive (Feinberg). The latter of
these theories, Utilitarianism, is the main concern of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second thesis of pure moralistic retributivism, that moral guilt is a sufficient condition for
punishment, is far more contentious (Feinber 647). One of the common counterarguments to this
point which Feinberg notes is similar to the old addage two wrongs don t make a right . If
punishment is justified irrespective of future consequences, and it is assumed that the chosen
punishment (i.e. prison time, fine) isn t itself a good, than how can this negative action be justified
if it doesn t necessarily bring about some goodness? Retributivists often respond by using the
example of sadness as a response to suffering. Neither sadness nor suffering are inherently good,
but sadness in response to someone else s suffering is uniquely appropriate (Feinberg 647). In the
same way that sadness is the appropriate response to suffering or teachers grade is the appropriate
response to a students performance on a test, punishment is the appropriate response to moral guilt
on the basis of justice. The concept of justice , the assignment of action on the basis of desert alone,
will become imporant later. Another critique raised by Feinberg relates to the third thesis of pure
moralistic retributivism: that punishment must be proportionate to the moral gravity of the offense.
This thesis implies a number consequences which are problematic. Firstly, if

Bonus Army Research Paper
1932; thats when the chaos started. The elated recently homebound veterans were thrown into a
whirl spin when they got back to their homes. Instead of having a peaceful return, they come home
to the great depression and become unemployed. The government promised all former Veterans a
bonus check worth $1,000 to be obtained in the future. Considering that they are now unemployed
and need money to survive, they requested to receive their bonuses earlier. As you can tell, that did
not happen. At this point, that was when the Bonus Army was formed.
While researching I found that the Bonus Army was the popular name of an assemblage of some
43,000 marchers 17,000 World War I veterans, their families, and affiliated groups who gathered in
Washington, D.C., to demand cash payment redemption of their service certificates. It all began in
the Spring and Summer of 1932, right in the midst of the great depression. The thousands of people

because they feared what the bonus army would do to them, and what the army was actually
capable of. As an attempt to get the bonus army to withdraw, President Hoover and Congress
appropriated $100,000 to the bonus army. The money was for the men and women to buy train
tickets back to their homes. What they hadn t known was this money was deducted from their
bonuses, making them even smaller at this point. A lot of the protesters took up this offer and went
back to their homes and continued with their lives. All but 10,000 protesters went home. As a way
to evict all the remaining protesters, the government announced they needed to use the abandoned
federal buildings they were staying in. For anyone who didnt plan on leaving, they said they would

The Social Hierarchy Of The Algonquin Indians
The Algonquins were a Native American people who settled from Maine all along the east coast
down into Virginia. The Algonquin were very peaceful and docile people, when the pilgrims landed
at Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts they helped to teach them how to live off their new lands and
ultimately ensured the survival of Europeans in North America. Although there are smaller sub
sections of the Algonquin tribes, such as the Mohegans, the Pesquots, and the Narragansetts, they
were all united through a central language. The Algonquins lived in a very patriarchal society
where men ruled the homes and owned all the lands. Overall the Algonquins were the most

though every tribe had their own chief the decision making process was extremely democratic in

Flexible Triangles
Triangles are when a dyad involves another individual when anxiety is heightened. Shapiro,
Kaslow, Maxfield (2007) state the third person brought into the conflict created the triangle in
order to establish stability (Shapiro, Kaslow, Maxfield, 2007, p. 171). Typically, this individual is
the least differentiated and if often the identified client (Goldenberg, Goldenberg, 2013, p. 213).
These authors report families with a higher level of differentiation can enter in and out of flexible
triangles, while those who do not have a well established differentiation have rigid triangles
(Shapiro, Kaslow, Maxfield, 2007, p. 171). This under developed concept of established
differentiation contributes to the unresolved issues brought into a family

Roosevelt, Jefferson, Washington, And Fdr Essay
When presenting the question of who deserves the title of best President of the United States, one
would not be surprised to find Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, and FDR as the frontrunners. While
each of these presidents was undisputedly successful and groundbreaking in their own right, all fall
short to America s first modern president Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt, assuming office at the
turn of the century, redefined and reimagined the role of the president and the executive
officialdom. By expanding the powers of the presidency, Roosevelt was able to move the country
forward in both the international arena and on the home front. Roosevelt s vast success can greatly
be attributed to his charisma, character, and persuasion skills. He understood that the art of
governing was truly the power to persuade, and he mastered the trade. Roosevelt not only improved
life domestically as he fought against inequality and corrupt business practices, but he also achieved
his goal of gaining influence abroad, thus earning the United Statesa powerful platform on the
global stage. Roosevelt s natural leadership, charm, bravery, and compassion combined with his
thorough understanding of the country s needs, both for the individual and for the long term well
being of the country, made him the most successful president in United States history.
Roosevelt, taking office in 1901 after the assassination of President McKinley, inherited a unique

My First Day Of High School
My first day of high school was my first time attending school in America. It was the scariest
week of my life. I had only been in America for two month when my mother told me I had to start
high school next week. I was very nervous and scared, but my mother told me that the school was
going to be similar to my schoolin Egypt. I don t remember why I believed her at this time.
Thought, I think I wanted to believe that everything was going to be normal and regular. The
day before going to school, I went with my mother to buy all my school material. I got one of
this large expensive backpack, a pencil, three note books, and colors pens. When I got home, I
was relaxed and excited. I loved and enjoyed shopping for school supplies and clothes for my
new school. The first day, I woke up two hours early to get ready. I got my hair done and my
makeup looked pretty. My mother had to drive me to school because I didn t know my bus
number. When I arrived to school, I thought we were in the wrong place, or my mother took me to
the mall by accident. The high schoolwas two floor high (looked higher), had a large football field
that could fit a large air plane, and parking lot that could fit hundred cars. I needed to get to the
registration office because the day I picked my classschedule they told me someone was going to
show me around. After looking around for any signs and trying multiple doors, I looked for
someone to show me the way. My English was not bad, but I still had to

Freedom Of Speech Rights In The United States
America is a nation that takes pride in its ability to protect the fundamental rights of their citizens
such as those mentioned in the 1st amendment. Unfortunately, that was not always the case. During
the Lochner era, the right to a freedom of contract was considered a fundamental right. While rights
such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and voting, were considered non fundamental. It
wasn t until the New Deal era that the court changed the standard to be that rights such as freedom
of religion, speech, and voting, were fundamental rights. It is the New Deal standard that is the
foundation for our freedom of speech right today in America (GGW, 2017). In other places, the
standards are not the same, such as Germany. Both countries grant the right of freedom of speech,
but speech is regulated and justified differently. In this paper, the focus will be on how the ruling
and justification in the German case Auschwitz lie differs and compares to American constitutional
law regarding freedom of speech.
In Auschwitz lie, a case was brought in front of the court regarding the freedom of speech right
under Basic Law, which is the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany. The National
Democratic Party of Germany (NDP) was hosting an event, and had decided to invite the historian
David Irving. The NDP could host the event, but was obligated to adhere to specific conditions. The
specific condition was that there could not be any statement regarding the persecution

Questions On Securing Wireless Client Devices
5. Securing Wireless Client Devices
Two major threats to wireless client devices are (1) loss or theft, and (2) compromise. Many of us
store our confidential and proprietary information in our Laptops and PDAs, loss or theft of such
kind of devices may cause the organization to be in violation of privacy regulations involving the
disclosure of personal identifying information it has collected from third parties. Another threat to
wireless client devices is that they can be compromised so that an attacker can access sensitive
information stored on the device or use it to obtain unauthorized access to other system resources.

The user has to turn off the broadcast the information if the user is not present. Hackers can use
identifier broadcasting to home in on vulnerable wireless networks. Disable the identifier
broadcasting mechanism if your wireless router allows it.
6.4 Change the identifier on your router from the default
By default the router comes with standard ID assigned by the manufacture of the hardware of the
router. Suppose even if the router is not broadcasting the SSID the hackers can compromise the
network by using the default IDs and can access the network. So try to change the SSID to
something which you can remember easily and configure your computer to connect to it. Use a
password which is alphanumeric which cannot be easier for the hacker to break.
6.5 Change your router s pre set password for administration
Like changing the identifier of the router we have to change the default password of the router,
which allows us to setup and configure the router. Hackers can easily guess the default password
and able to compromise the system. The tougher the password, the harder it ll be for the hacker to
crack it.
6.6 Allow only specific computers to access your wireless network
Computers can able to communicate with any network with a unique Media Access Control
(MAC) address. The routers have a mechanism to allow or connect only the devices which have a
particular MAC address. Some hackers can also spoof MAC address.

Mcdonald s Drive-Thru
Although many people visit fast food restaurants every day, they may be unaware of the detailed
thought that is made towards the structuring of the business and its employees. Many times, we
are on a constant rush to purchase our food and to quickly leave. Within the last few years,
restaurants have taken a note of this, and have even developed what is known as the Drive Thru .
In today s modern society, one thing people seem to be short of is time. We go in restaurants and
literally expect fast food. Restaurants like McDonald s have developed ways to decrease the
amount of time for which people have to wait for food; thus catching the attention of many
Americans going about their day with limited time. McDonald s developed innovative ways to
configure the methods for which its food should be made. Their developments are what have
placed them in the top spot, where today their franchises are globally recognized. Today they hold
the record for the largest chain of hamburgerfast food restaurants in the world. McDonald s was
originally founded by two brothers named Dick and Mac McDonald. Having observed their
method of food production, Ray Kroc now owner of McDonalds, was stunned by their
effectiveness. The brothers had developed a system of concentrating on only a few items
hamburgers, fries and drinks.

Impact Of Piracy On International Trade Essay
With the majority of Earth s surface covered by water, the most efficient and cost effective way to
transport goods is across that water in ships, due to buoyancy. Ships allow for massive amounts of
goods to be transported at once, but these slow, cargo laden ships pose an attractive target to
thieves. Piracycauses costly disturbances and dangers that lead to billions of dollars in losses
because of captured ships, loss of goods, and the ransoming of the crew. Because of the impact of
piracy on the profits and safety of maritime transport companies, several measures have been taken
to prevent the capturing of vessels or discourage the pirates wanting to attack the vessel. Efforts to
create new technology to prevent pirate boarding and securityhave developed several methods to
deal with attacks. The goal of making the vessels more difficult to attack and too dangerous to
steal from, has been the focal point of the research and development. The UN has endeavored to
solve the effects that piracy caused on international trade, but at the cost not addressing the
problems that the piracy originated from. The current merchant marine efforts to deter and defend
against piracy have been effective in dropping the levels of raids in recent years.
Article 101 of the United Nations convention on the Law of the Sea defines Piracy as any illegal
acts of violence or detention, or any act of depredation, committed for private ends by the crew or
the passengers of a private ship (The

To create Native American common and tradition art they used different tools, some including,
rocks, feathers, cloth, clay, and fabric. Native americans also used material from animals like fur
and bones. They would never hunt for sport and used every last part of what they hunted and
didn t let any part of their animals go unused. To get pigments and different colors they would
use plants and different kinds of berries to mix and get the desired colors they wanted. They
were known for having many bright colors to represent what they love. There are many, forms,
and genres of Native American art, a common one is painting. The earliest form of painting that
we know of, dates back all the way to 4000 b.c. These paintings have been found in caves, rock
shelters, and clay plasters and were usually applied with a fibre brush. Many designs are in
forms of both supernatural and natural ideas and scenarios, it was a way to tell and visualize
stories. Painting was also used to decorate things like pottery and instruments. This form of art
was probably the most popular. Another common form of art was basket weaving, this form of

The Main Features Of Autism Spectrum Disorder
Describe the main features of autism spectrum disorder. Evaluate the evidence supporting a
biological basis for autism. Autism is a developmental disorder which usually occurs during
infancy (Hyman, 2002:217). Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an umbrella term used to refer
to many disorders which display symptoms of an autistic style. The spectrum covers all types of
symptoms ranging from mild to severe (Hollander, 2003:102). Individuals in the spectrum can
range from having severe learning disabilities to being mildly impaired (Nimh.nih.gov, 2014).
The linguistic skills can also vary from being mute to having the ability to communicate
complex sentences (ibid). The different profiles of the sufferers are diverse (Hyman, 2002:217).
However, there are three main areas of which they may have difficulties. These are social
reciprocity, an inability to communicate effectively and unusual repetitive or restricted
behaviour (Davey, 2014:586) this is known as the triad of impairments (Dodd, 2005:2). This
essay will explain the triad of impairments related to ASD to describe the main features of the
disorder. In addition, it will evaluate the biological evidence by investigating the research for
genetic factors and brain abnormalities, both of which support a biological basis for ASD (Davey,
2014:588). The first main area that describes the features of ASD is impairments of reciprocal
social interaction (Davey, 2014:585). This is one of the most dominant features of ASD.

Edgar Allan Poe Writing Style
Edgar Allan Poe s life was filled with tragedy, everybody he really loved died of tuberculosis or
left him. He constantly was rejected in his life and really never found someone who truly
understood him. Poe s mother died when he was three and his father left him, So Poe had some
traumatic experiences at a young age. Poe and his sister were later adopted by the Allen family
and moved to England. Poe later joined the military and started to write. Later he married his
thirteen year old cousin who died of tuberculosis. He then went on to marry two more women, but
one left him and he died on his last wife. Poe s life was constantly filled with death and
disappointment which explains his vivid styleof writing. His traumatic life is explained through his
dark writing, and the way he explains the story. Poe s vivid writing style is constantly shown
through his unique literary techniques.
One literary device Poe uses to show his vivid style is imagery. In Poe s short story The Cask of
Amontillado , he describes the antagonist (Fortunato) as he greets him, He accosted me with
excessive warmth, for he had been drinking too much. (234) Since Poe s writing is so vivid in
the detail, the imagery in this quote can almost make the reader feel how Fortunato is greeting
him. The reader can almost feel Fortunato s warmth and smell the alcohol. Poe also uses his
imagery to make the reader imagine the area he is in. In the same short story Poe describes the

1)Loving your body and yourself
Someone can only love you if you love yourself. This class made me retake drawing. One exercise
presented in class was to do someone you are good at to help build confidence. I loved drawing
portrait but for some reason I stopped once I started dating my boyfriend of 3 years. I now starting

than look skinner. It made a world of difference being in the class and learning that loving yourself
was not as hard as I expected.

The Crusaders Challenges And Challenges Essay
As the religion of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam spread throughout the world, it brought its own
challenges and obstacles. One of the challenges was the broader movement to spread Christianity
that included Crusades , which targeted Jews, Muslims, and members of other non Christian
groups within Europe (Hansen and Curtis 387). The Christian soldiers, were called the Crusaders
who attached a cross to their clothes as a sign of belonging to a large, volunteer force (Hansen and
Curtis 388). The Crusaders hoped to gain control of Jerusalem, because they believed that this holy
site belonged to them, even though it was also a holy site for the Muslims and the Jews.

Jerusalem was the symbolic center of the Christian world. About 50,000 soldiers marched out to
Jerusalem from Europe, however only 10,000 of them made it. Out of the 10,000 soldiers, some
1,500 were knights, the only fighters properly equipped for siege warfare (Hansen and Curtis
389). In addition to that, many of these soldiers had voluntarily come forward which meant that
unlike the soldiers in an organized army, they did not receive any pay. Consequently, there was
lots of disorganization such as rarely agreeing with each other about [the] military strategy
(Hansen and Curtis 389). The disorganization hassle had reached to such an extreme point, that
the Crusaders often could not even decide on their main commander (Hansen and Curtis 389).

challenges of full service airline facing today
Topic: Challenges of full service airlines facing today
1. Introduction
Full service airline is defined as an airline that focuses on providing a wide range of pre flight and
onboard services, including different service classes, and connecting flights that are also operating a
hub and spoke model (Reichmuth, 2008). According to Cento (2009), the core business of full
service carriers including passenger, cargo and maintenance.
In recent years, full service airlines are facing different challenges including the increasing
competition, market shifts and the change of customer needs. This essay is to analysis the three
main difficulties faced by full service airline and suggests some improvements.

Compare to the previous generation, the Youngers are more focusing on their budget rather the
coverage of services. For example, they may not care about the entertaining facilities provided as
they have their smart phone. Therefore, they may choose low cost airline or other transportations
like through train to save their costs. Therefore, the traditional airlines need to change their images
and strategies in order to fulfill the needs of customers. For example, the fanfares provided by The
Dragonair and Cathay Pacific Airline which providing high quality of service with lower price. And
the online promoting strategy which placing advertisement though social media platform such as
Facebook can establish a young and updated image of the airline in order to fulfill the needs of
young customers.
3. Suggested improvements and future of full service airlines
Although the full service airline cannot provide cheap fares as the low cost airline, they are still
remaining their competitive advantages. The good quality of service such as entertaining
facilities provided by the full service is their largest competitive advantage that cannot be
replaced by the low cost airlines. Cento (2009) writes that the major objective of the hub and
spoke network in full service airline is to provide full coverage of as many demand categories as
possible. Therefore, the full service airline is still occupying the market in premium travels. In

Type 4 Pili Research Paper
Bacterial pili have been well studied for their structure, function, and genetics. However, little is
known about the structure and function of archaeal pili. Current research has begun to focus on the
archaeal pilus and its relatedness to bacterial pili, particularly the bacterial type IV pilus. Using
genetic and microscopy techniques, these studies have shown comparative evidence for the
differences, as well as homology, between archaeal and bacterial type IV pili. These results suggest
there may be an evolutionary divergence from a common ancestral function and origin.
Introduction

also changing and the pilins will code for an array of functions (3,

Issues At Roberts Cellars Company
Winery company has faced some issues in which that has affected their business. Thank you for
having us as mentors to review the issues at Roberts Cellars Company. We carefully studied the
case of the situation at Roberts Cellars Company during our meeting. We as one group figured out
that the problem at Roberts Cellars Company is the TCA a chemical that can cause musty odors
and flavors in wine. TCA infects the cork, then is transferred to the wine when it comes into contact
with the cork.
As a team, we believe that TCA should be removed from the situation completely by no longer
using Portugal as a source for cork but instead changing the coverings to screw top conclusions
instead. In addition, the TCA issues need to be addressed, and we suggest Robert Cellars selecting

Barbary Pirates Revolutionary War
After the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783, the United States of America had officially gained
their independence after a hard fought and grueling revolution against Great Britain. The new
republic was eager to enter the world of global and maritime trade and hoped to maintain and
thrive on their newly achieved freedom. However, the Americans soon realized there were
consequences for no longer being a part of the British empire: there was no powerful navy to
protect them from international threats, such the the Barbary pirates (London, 13 15). They had
to start working on their own protection. America s war with the Barbary pirates helped establish
the U.S. navy and shape the nation after the Revolutionary War. The Barbary pirates operated off
the coast of North Africa since the time of the Crusades. The pirates were essentially sponsored
by the Arab rulers in Morocco, Algiers, Tunis, and Tripoli. They are said to have sailed as far
north as Iceland, attacking ports, taking captive people as slaves, and plundering merchant ships.

The Importance Of Drinking Water In Georgia
Water plays a vital role in everyday life, from quenching your thirst on a hot summer day, to being
one of the main ingredient of life in all aspects on earth.
Recently, Georgia has been under a severe water drought. Lake Lanier in Georgia, which is a
major supply of drinking water to its state, and neighboring states Alabama, and Florida; has been
at its lowest in years. Georgia s drought is certainly due to the lack of precipitation; therefore,

Also, this paper will suggest that World War II started in Japan years before historians believe the

It was a tactical victory for the Japanese but I think they missed the opportunity to fully
incapacitate the U.S. naval forces to reorganize its manufacturing capacity. The Japanese forces
overlooked to target the supplies and main fuel storage in Pearl Harbor. To prove my point, the
U.S. was known to have a vast industrial capability and the ability to manufacture airplanes in a
very short period of time. The Japanese forces were not decisive on targeting the warships and
aircraft carriers. The raid was simply not enough to delay the U.S. from launching a counter
attack in time for the Japanese to meet their goals. My assumptions of a flawed Japanese attack
on Pearl Harbor would still not negate the fact that the U.S. forces were unprepared. The U.S.
military commanders knew that war with Japan was imminent and yet they ignored the signs or
failed to capitalize on defending Pearl Harbor. I then analyzed the U.S. military commanders in
Pearl Harbor and their concept of operations before the attack occurred. Lieutenant General
Walter Short was the U.S. Army commander in charge of the defenses of Pearl Harbor. I

Social Features Of Ants
Ants are usually thin and skinny insects. They all have 3 pairs of legs and their bodies are
divided into three main part: head, abdomen and thorax. They are narrowly connected to their
abdomen and thorax. Their antennae are bent in the middle and have chewing mouthparts. The
mouth is an essential working tool for almost every ant. It consists of two sets of jaws: the outer
two, used for carrying food and building the nest and the inner one is used for chewing. Adult
ants are able to swallow only liquids. In the back of the jaw there is a storage packet which
converts solid food into liquid by breaking it down with its strong saliva. They swallow the liquid
part whereas spits out the liquid one. Ants do not have lungs but breathe instead through small

Ants are known as social insects, living in large colonies altogether. The colony is specifically
divided into certain castes or classes: queens (reproductive females), males and workers. There
are way differences between social structures among ant colonies, nonetheless they share few
common basic features. They reside in a community being dependant on one another. They
work as a whole starting from feeding and protecting one another to raising and caring their
young ones. Each member of the community is assigned with specific jobs, from laying eggs to
gathering food to fighting. For these ants, colony life centers around the nest which can be
underground, a mound or even at the treetops. An ant colony is the busiest and crowded place.
Like many other social insects, ants do have three classes: queen ants, worker ants and male
ants. A queen is a vital member of the colony but does not rule the colony. Her only job is to lay
eggs in absence of which the colony would die out. The reason behind this is that only queens
can reproduce. A colony may have one or several queens. For example; a European wood

School Uniforms Should Be Abolished
The wearing of school uniforms is increasingly popular across the nation. It becomes a
controversial argument of communities rejecting these mandated school uniforms in their schools.
However, school uniforms are not a negative thing; in fact, they could be positive in many ways
by eliminating cliques, saving money for parents, and taking away the bullying off students less
fortunate; whereas, school uniforms will also violate students freedom of expression, create a
financial burden on families, and uniforms will not alleviate the problems such as higher academic
rates, attendance, etc. However, with a solution that would benefit both parties, the public school
systems in the Oklahoma City district would benefit greatly if this policy were adopted in all the
schools since the district only has seventy four public schools with uniforms, while seventeen
schools are not. First of all, these school uniforms should be implemented in the rest of these
seventeen schools, because they would diminish economic and social barriers between students.
For instance, people come from different social classes such as Upper, Middle, and Lower class.
Many lower class families often cannot afford to purchase non essential items for their children,
especially for school; many struggle just to purchase the necessity items such as food, housing,
transportation, etc. According to the Oklahoma City Board of Education, if families are not able to

Television And Reality Television Shows Essay
The media as a whole has been a huge impact on their viewers lives. People do not just watch a
television show, they tend to normalize the characters and their roles into their day to day lives.
When analyzing the media and focusing on drama and reality television shows, the impact that
these shows have on some of their women viewers are noticeable. Televisiondrama shows are
fictions that the average person can relate to. They are made with real life problems that people
can sympathize with. Television dramas have become the newest therapy to people. People go to
these over dramatized shows for the answer to their problems. Most tend to forget that these are
fictional television shows, meaning they are made up characters with false problems. These shows
tend to show women as the house wife, pretty and skinny, and powerful but weak minded. When
looking at reality televisionalthough it is unscripted and tend to be real life situations, producers
do pick out cast that are not relatable to and unlike the average person. On television dramas and
reality shows men tend to be shown as dominating women in relationships, as women are shown
as the men s trophy. Also, as a whole television dramas and reality shows show women as sexy
figures, emotionally unstable, and less than a man which effects their everyday lives. Television
dramas and reality shows has a negative effect on femaleviews by showing them in a negative light.

Positives And Negatives Of Consumerism
Just what is consumerism, and is it beneficial or detrimental to our economy and society?
Basically, consumerism is the ideology that people must buy products and services in order to
allow the economy to function correctly, but is this line of thinking accurate? It is entirely
possible that consumerism is creating a downward slope, leading us into greed and selfishness;
but it is also argued that consumerism is merely a means to stimulate the economy and produce
a better society as a whole. There are flaws in the system of course: pollution, greed, wasted
materials; but there are also benefits to it, such as, the creation of new jobs, the growth of
businesses, and even a show of patriotism. In essence, consumerism is both a positive and a
negative force in the modern world, depending on how it is utilized and portrayed, for example: a

The Great Gatsby And The Roaring Twenties
In a decade that roared with social amends it was often referred to as the Roaring Twenties. Two
famous literature pieces are very similar connecting key events and issues from this time period. F.
Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Ken Allen s Roaring Twenties both utilize conflict, foil and
symbolism to help the readers acknowledge the influence of class and money over the characters
during the Roaring Twenties.
Conflict is a recurring struggle throughout The Great Gatsby and Ken Allen s Roaring Twenties . In
Fitzgerald s nonfiction novel, class was one of the main conflicts and reasoning s behind many
of the actions from the characters. A major social issue was class socialization. Class
socialization refers to the rich socializing with the rich and the poor socializing with the poor.
Classes of people were divided by wealth. In The Great Gatsby, Daisy would not be with Gatsby
due to his lack of money. Since Gatsby descended from a poor family, Daisy would not accept
him as a lover although she was indeed in love with him. Gatsby s lack of wealth led to many
other conflicts sustaining from his drive to earn money to prove his worth of her affection.
Another conflict in The Great Gatsby was the stock market crash. The stock market crash was a
major event during the Roaring Twenties. When the market crashed, prices on goods soared due to
the low quantity of products resulting with millions of people becoming poor. In Allen s poem

Conformity as Seen by Different Cultures Essay
Whether we know it or not, we all tend to succumb to the norm of others. We do something or
act a certain way because we want to fit in with the others around us. Whether it be from
bullying, persuasion, teasing, criticism, or social norm, conforming to the way of society is a
part of life. Conformity is defined as a change in behavior or belief in order to accord with others.
We all strive to be liked and to fit in, sometimes conforming to others around us is the only was we

Like wearing pink for breast cancer, or wearing shoes in public places (Myers, 2013). There is
different types of conformity. Among those are compliance, obedience, and acceptance.
Compliance is when you disagree about a certain situation or idea, but go along with it anyway. A
person may internally believe that this action is wrong or worthless, but the reason they do it, is to
not stand out or publicly make a scene. These people fall victim to majority rule (Myers, 2013).
Instead of sticking to their beliefs, they conform to gain acceptance or praise (Myers, 2013).
Obedience is the act of conforming due to a command from someone else, usually of higher
authority. Milgram performed an experiment on two men at a Yale college psychology
laboratory. He studied the effect of when the commands of a higher up personal clashes with ones

Observation And Experimentation Of Observation
Observation is both an act and a remark made about an issue of interest. It is the process of close
monitoring of an occurrence for some given reasons, scientific or not. It is also the information
gathered from the monitoring process. In any scientific study, certain steps have to be followed.
There has to be observation/experimentation for any hypothesisto be formed and tested. It all starts
from the experimentation stage where close observations are made. Scientists rely mostly on
observation in its many forms in order to gain evidence during their studies. Nevertheless, the
observational evidence is majorly theory laden. The anticipation is based on past theories such that
their aim is to agree with a learnt theory or to reject it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If In any cases the observations are laden in any way, then there is a threat to science. Studies have
shown that perception can be influenced by theories. The theories can therefore control the
observation from the initial stages up to the end. Once the perception is theory based rather than
the real observation at hand, the attention to the process, how the observer comprehend the process
and later interpret the results has an effect to the scientific process(science). The findings could be
interpreted in the right and best way possible but their credibility depend on how the observations
were collected. If they were biased, then their credibility is low and unreliable.
Observation mainly involve seeing . Certain theories need observational support to be scientifically
accepted. Observational support is further applied when comparing two theories that might closely
explain a similar topic. Scientists make conclusions based on what they see which is further
influenced by on their beliefs. Despite that two people observing the same thing, their conclusions
might vary. This makes it hard when deciding which theory is better, observation technique isn t the
better way. Its dependence on the observers perspective stand in the way of making the right choice.

people are living in more and more preferable weather. Next, they calculated that approximately

Literary Analysis OfThe Goldfinch, By Donna Tartt
The story in the novel The Goldfinch, written by Donna Tartt, begins even before Tartt s writing
begins. Upon opening the novel, the first sentence present is a quote by Albert Camus, stating, The
absurd does not liberate, it binds . Even before beginning this novel, the meaning of this quote
shines through; the peculiar things that happen in life are what bring people together, a fate is not
necessarily a punishment. This quote begins the first section of the noveland gives great meaning to
it as the protagonist quickly learns that his world does not end just because his mother s does. At
the beginning of the novel, the protagonist, Theo Decker is introduced in his hotel room in
Amsterdam, feeling lonesome and miserable. Shortly after the introduction, the point of view is
changed from this older version of Theo to a much younger, thirteen year old Theo. At this point in
time, Theo explains about the death of his mother, the woman whom he regarded most highly.
While on their way to a meeting with the principal of Theo s school due to his poor behaviour, the
two stop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Theo s mother, Audrey is extremely passionate about
art and her favourite painting is entitled The Goldfinch , painted by Carel Fabritius. In stopping to
examine the painting, Theo thinks to himself It was a direct and matter of fact little creature, with
nothing sentimental about it; and something about the neat, compact way it tucked down inside
itself its brightness, its alert watchful expression made me think of pictures I d seen of my mother
... a dark capped finch with steady eyes (Tartt 27). This moment is important because it displays
Theo s kind hearted, innocent and observant nature. By comparing his mother to the painting she
loves the most, and by finding the good in the painting, despite being plain, Theo demonstrates his
innocence and ability to be observant. This comparison between the bird in the painting and his
mother leads to the development of a symbol throughout the novel. While in the museum, a terrorist
attack occurs. Bombs are set off and multiple explosions occur in the gift shop of the museum,
where Audrey is. Fortunately for Theo, who is entranced by a strange looking,

The Media And Its Impact On The Modern Era
Advertisements have become one of the most prevalent forms of art in the modern era; such that ad
executives have become the artists of this new age. They paint the walls with thought provoking
and attention grabbing advertisements designed to steal the audience s attention and sell them a
product but more importantly a life style. Consumers numbness to words like best, better, or
stronger has forced advertisements to evolve in a dynamic manner. Thus almost all streets and TV
screens are painted with streaks of Aristotle s ethos, pathos, and logos. These weapon of
persuasion were forged centuries ago, but because there potency is still effective they are still in
use today. Hardee s (Carl s Jr.), is one company that does this well. They use ads that capitalize
on the sexuality of women and invoke a sense of patriotism. A specific example of this is their
The All American Thick Burger ad. By capitalizing on sexuality and patriotism, the ad outlines its
target audience as young, red blooded, Merican men. The ad uses strong pathos, powerful ethos,
and limited logos in order to effectively sell the Thickburger to the above specified audience The
ad starts with a close up on the burger. The burger is then brought into full view and shown to have
a hot dog link (cut in half running parallel to each other in supine position) and potato chips (Lay s
original kettle cooked) as an additional garnish to the regular lettuce, tomatoes, onions, ketchup, and
mustard. The camera

OP-20-G s Invasion Of The Navy In Melbourne, Melbourne
A combat intelligence bulletin from HYPO was subsequently sent to the British Eastern Fleet, the
CNS at Melbourne, and the New Zealand Naval board, allowing the other Allies to utilize America
s intelligence findings (176). Meanwhile, after the Singapore surrender to the Japanese, the team at
station CAST became even more isolated. Realizing the team s importance to the area, OP 20 G
had them evacuated, first to Bandung to join a Dutch radio intelligence team, then to Melbourne
when that location also went under Japanese control. The international group of analysts in
Melbourne formed the Fleet Radio Unit, Melbourne, also known as FRUMEL. Admiral Glassford,
commander of US naval forces in the area, helped facilitate the incorporation of station CAST into
the Royal Australian Navy, into which the team of experts was welcomed with open arms (170 171).

They would start by capturing Port Moresby in New Guinea, then attack Midway and the

Port Moresby in the Battle of the Coral Sea on May 7, 1942. For the first time in the Pacific war,
American intelligence had been able to give adequate warning of enemy plans (Bath 178). This

The Compulsive Disorder Of Leonardo Dicaprio s OCD )
Leonardo DiCaprio s OCD
I ll never let go, Jack. I promise. One of the greatest movies of all time stars the best actor ever,
Leonardo DiCaprio. He has obsessive compulsive disorder, but is still one of the greatest actors.
If something was hard, he worked even harder to do it perfectly. Even if his disorder disrupted
him and his fellow co workers, he worked through those difficult times to get the job done.
Obsessive compulsive disorder, also known as OCD, is an anxiety disorder which involves
obsessions, compulsions, and can also consume a person s everyday life (Steketee 1).
Compulsions are obsessions performed into ritualistic behaviors (Parks 11). They can lead a
person to have very vicious cycles in which they are powerless to stop. Obsessions most of the
time revolves around fears of germs in which they avoid using public toilets and touching items.
This can get so extreme to where they will wash their hands so many times their skin will be raw,
and they will shower so much their bodies will start bleeding or chapping (12). There are many
symptoms of having OCD. For example, sufferers can avoid situations that involve obsessions,
overestimating harm, and worrying excessively. Sufferers of OCD can have multiple fears such as
hurting loved ones, using sharp objects near people, not counting high enough which would cause a
natural disaster, and throwing items away (12).

Palm Oil Research Papers
Palm oil is a type of edible vegetable oil that is derived from the palm fruit, grown on the African
oil palm tree. They are originally from Western Africa, but can develop wherever heat and rainfall
are abundant. Today, palm oil is grown throughout Africa, Asia, North America, and South America,
with 85% of all palm oilglobally produced and exported from Indonesia and Malaysia but most of
the time not using sustainable measures. In total, 50 million tons of palm oil is produced annually,
supplying over 30% of the world s vegetable oil production. During the past decade, the orangutan
population has decreased by approximately 50 percent in the wild. This is primarily due to human
activities including rainforest destruction for palm oil plantations. At present, 80 percent of
orangutan habitat has been altered or lost. Wildlife such as orangutans has been found buried alive,
killed from machete attacks, guns and other weaponry.
WHY LOCATION IS IMPORTANT :

God s Benevolent Nature Of God In The Old Testament
Throughout the Old Testament, there are many clear examples that show God s benevolent
nature and portray him as a life giving force. For example, in Exodus 3:7 10, the LORD says that
he has heard the affliction of the Israelites and will deliver them from the oppression of Egypt
through Moses. God also says that he will lead them up from that land(Egypt) into a good and
spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey, the country of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the
Amorites,...etc. This presents a God that wants to redeem his people and bring them back to a
position of prosperity. From this, the reader can conclude that God doesn t want his people to
suffer. In addition to this example, the Bibleshows the reader other instances of God s loving
nature. In the Book of Exodus, we can see how God is a benevolent figure because of the
promises he makes to Abraham and the Israelites if they fulfill their side of the covenant. In
Exodus 19:4 6, God tells the people that he will turn them into a nation of priests and has lifted
them up upon eagles wings . He even explicitly tells the Israelites that he will fulfill his promises
. Additionally,in Genesis 12:1 3, the LORD says Go forth from your land, your relatives, and from
your father s house to a land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless
you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you

Ambassador James C. Swan And The Chief Of Mission David Brown
Ambassador James C. Swan and DRC Deputy Chief of Mission David Brown should be at the
top of the list regarding diplomatic efforts with President Kabila and his advisors. Swan and
Brown would be responsible for disseminating our potential policy efforts in a positive light and
garnering support for said efforts. The United States Agency for International Development and
Department of State should also be heavily involved in any policy changes. Each respective
agency would reallocate funds as necessary. As of now, only $42 million of USAID s estimated
$330 million (2016) of foreign aid goes towards governance measures. It is critical that this
amount be increased provided that the Kabila regime is receptive to our ideas and willing to work
with us. The success of any aforementioned policy change depends on the DRC government s
ability to implement it. Additionally, we should also work with the Department of Treasury in
restructuring current sanctions on the DRC. If the Kabila regime proves compliant with our policy
measures, then we should urge the Treasury to reduce sanctions. The Department of Defense
should play a role in establishing a legitimate military presence in the DRC. They can do so by joint
military exercises meant to build military capacity and strengthen the DRC government s ability to
deal with threats from armed groups within the country and abroad (namely, threats from Rwanda
and Uganda). Finally, we should coordinate with the African Development

Symbolism In Young Goodman Brown And The Birthmark
Hawthorne Prompt Throughout the short stories Young Goodman Brown and The Birthmark
both written by Nathaniel Hawthorne follow the formalistic approach. The Birthmark focuses
on the flaws of human beings as Georgiana who is married to Aylmer has a birthmark on her
cheek. Aylmer becomes obsessed with perfection and sees this birthmark as a major flaw with
his wife. She does then get the birth mark removed but dies soon after. There s a lot of
symbolism between the two stories. In the Young Goodman Brown , Brown s wife Faith wears a
pink ribbon in her hair. The symbolism here is the fact that Faith s ribbon is pink which is an in
between color. Red is a symbol of evil or being provocative and white is a symbol of purity and
innocence.

Locavore Movement Essay
The Locavore Movement The locavore movement has become increasingly popular over the last
decade. Locavores are people who prefer to eat food that is locally grown and doesn t travel long
distances before getting to their plates. This thought process is slowly changing the way people eat
and the ideals people consider when choosing food to eat. Along with this fresh perspective on
where our food comes from, the movement provides a innovative ideal towards what is sustainable
and what is not sustainable. While the definition of local is dependent on the buyer the effect is the
same. The locavore movement has a positive impact on the local communities through improving
the income and number of local farms that fosters good communities, and increasing the nutritional
value of food eaten. With an increase of interest in local communities and their economies, any
businesses involved in the community will benefit. Since the locavore movement began there have
been tremendous improvements on the income local farms receive. In a study... Show more content

In reality this movement, while for the time being, is considered a trend the movement is
growing into a way of life. As stated by Anthony Flaccavento These are ordinary, middle income
folks who have become really engaged in food and really care where their food comes from.
(Source E) This interest in where food comes from does not mean that they are attempting to be,
as Flaccavento so beautifully put it, a fringe foodie culture . It is a group of ordinary people that
are invested in the origin and the nutritional value of their own food. While for some people just
knowing the story of their food makes them more comfortable with what they re putting into their
bodies rather than having to wonder what the food was grown in and what happened to it in the

The Effects of Slavery on African Americans
Slavery, due to its overall violent nature, had lasting effects on African American s. Enslaved
African Americans faced tremendous turmoil internally and within society with all that they had to
deal with. The most apparent and disastrous affects of slavery during the 18th century was the
overall dissolution of society in regards to human rights, families, and the inability for slaves to
voice an opinion of their own. Slaverybrought forth major suffering. African American s who
were enslaved experienced many troubling and painful feelings and emotions. With slavery,
came problems; physical, emotional, and traumatizing experiences. Slavery was corrupt and
dehumanizing. Some of the leading factors that resulted in why slavery was so awful was the
tension and conflict it caused in society, families were split up and sold off separately, and lastly,
it led to extremely inappropriate and wrongful forced sexual relationships between slave masters
and their slaves, specifically young girls and women. Many of the material we covered over the
course of this semester in our class, explained and went into further detail regarding the corruptness
and brutalities that came with slavery. 12 Years A Slave, American Slavery, and Soul By Soul, all
included valuable and honest descriptions, analysis s, and explanations of slavery and the many
effects it provoked.
There was great tension amongst white people and black people during the years of slavery and for

Personal Philosophy Reflection Paper
For the past six weeks, I learned how philosophy has influenced the world globally. Learning that
when human beings voice their thoughts with others, they receive a chance to change the world,
especially if one person speaks one on one, one personage can change the world of one body. My
belief in the power of language is strengthened by philosophy. This philosophy course has
encouraged me to share my opinions that are not influenced by other peers or older adults, but to
deeply reflect and research my beliefs and opinions. Looking at how philosophy has shaped the
United States, I grant my thankfulness towards the Constitution, and the democracy and freedom
we now have, compared to other countries.
My views of electronics have changed, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before philosophy my views would have leaned a little bit more towards a socialist country, but
now I gratitude freedom in hard work, education, speech, etc.
From my readings to research from Edutopia to literature courses, I have gained a deeper
appreciation for language. In order to understand what one is speaking, a person needs to spend
time listening to one s language and before responding must reflect and analyze what the other
said and how to respond. If a person wants to love another person they have to listen to their
language in order to speak their language, and the core part of learning another language is by
listening. According to Joan Blaska, author of The Power of Language: Speak and Write Using
Person First the language people use shows one s bias and prejudices. Beliefs and another s
performance fall under the influence of language. Blaska claimed the degree to which children are
able to perceive themselves as competent and worthy, or the opposite, is heavily influenced by the
verbalizations used by their teachers...Studies have found that labeling of students does affect
teacher expectations which in turn affects student progress . People have heavy influence with their
words, because of this, our language must be intentional in a way, that breaks down negative
stereotypes and helps one gain empathy as well as seeing others capabilities. Communicating and
reading others comments and inquiring others has helped me to accept

Importance Of College Tuition Based On Income
College Tuition Based on Income A college education is the road to get out of poverty. However
it is expensive, and the lower class can not always afford it. It seems like the rich get a good
education and remain rich for generations, while the the poor can not pay to get an education, so
they remain poor for generations. The gap between rich and poor would get bigger if this trend
was real, but the government wants to give everyone a chance to pursue happiness, so there are
many scholarships and grants the poor can get to get a good education. Now there is a question
whether college tuitionshould be based on income? No it should not because all this would do is
hurt the rich, the poor already get a plentiful help to get whatever education they want. Income tax
is based on the amount of money you make, so the rich pay more and the poor pay less. Now
they want to do that for college? How is that fair? The rich have earned their money one way or
another, even if it is passed down from previous generations. They have to pay more just because
they have more? The government is for the people, rich and poor, so why are the poor only ones
being given support. What is the point of getting rich if your money is going to get drained? As of
now, college has a set price. However, it fluctuates with the amount of
Khangura 2 financial aid and grants a student can get. Financial aid is judged by parents income
and level of education. Because the rich do not get financial aid, they

Examples Of Structuralism In The Movie Coach Carter
Structuralism is a philosophy that views society as composed of structures such as class and race
that shape our lives, making it challenging for all individuals to have access to equal opportunities.
Thus, it is focuses on exposing these structures and investigating power who has it and who doesn
t and what we can do to change this, often by way of advocacy, actions, and campaigns, and
striving for social change (J. Poole, personal communication, September 13, 2017).
Coach Carter is a sports drama based on a real life experience of a former Richmond High alumni
and basketball coach, Ken Carter, who became known in 1999 for benching his undefeated
basketball team, due to poor academic standing (Watch Coach Carter, n.d.). It is through this film I
will illustrate my understanding of structuralism, with a special focus on the lockout that occurs, as
it demonstrates power imbalances addressed by advocacy and social action (Watch Coach Carter,
n.d.).
In the film, Coach Carter initiates a lockout after learning some members of his team failed to
uphold the academic requirements mutually agreed to between the Coach and the players in a
signed contract (Watch Coach Carter, n.d.). In place of practice, the players were confronted by a
sign on the gym door asking that they meet the Coach in the library (Watch Coach Carter, n.d.).
Going forward, practices were cancelled and the team was forced to forfeit games they
demonstrated an improvement in their grades (Watch Coach

  • 2. The Railroad Bride Analysis Consider the painting The Railroad Bride, Argenteuil by Claude Monet. This artwork looks simple, but uses geometry and one point linear perspective. Monet uses a sense of opposition is created by the alternating rhythm of light to dark established by the bridge pillars and the color orange and blue in both water and smoke from the train above. The light and dark areas given the picture asymmetrical balance between the dark and light areas. Monet uses one point linear perspective to create the bride. He uses proportions in the relationship between the parts of the object and the whole object by using geometry. Monet uses grid like geometry. The wooden structure support under the bridge is the same overall structure of grid and diagonals. Other lines are the apparent in the two diagonals as well as opposing directional lines of the train and the boat. The smoke shows direction of the wind and that the boat is moving that way as well. The visual weight/balance of the sail boat is smaller than the bridge. I believe the focal point is the new bridge for the train and new travels was is focal point in the picture. The asymmetrical balance of the composition 8 1: Explain way the following mediums evolved in time. The evolving in paper went through a lot of phases. Before the 15th hundredths paper was expensive. Paper was not made in the Western world until the 13th century in Italy. Before then it was made out of fiber from scraps of cloth. Another way a form of paper was made is from papyrus and parchment which was invention of the ancient Egyptians sometime around 4000 BCE and was made by pounding and pasting together strips of the papyrus plant. Parchment was popular by the Romans after the second century BCE, but was used as paper many years before that. Paper arrived in the West through trade and which had learned the process from China originally. Papermaking was introduced into the Arabic world sometime in the 18th century and had a thriving book trade. It was not till a gentlemen from Germany that invented the printing press that books became wide spread. Due to the large amount of cloth rags need, paper remained an expensive till the middle of the 19th century when wood pulp was discovered. This in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Retributivism Vs Utilitarian Theory The concept of morality and moral rules and laws has as its corollary, the concept of rule breaking or acting immorally. A common response to immoral behavior is punishments, which leads me to ask the question: how is punishment justified? In his article The Classic Debate , American legal philosopher Joel Feinberg lays out the main points of discourse between the two major theories of justified punishment, which I will deconstruct. Feinberg asserts that there are two main theories used to justify punishment: Retributivism and Utilitarianism. These two theories supposedly oppose each other such that they are mutually exclusive and jointly exhaustive (Feinberg). The latter of these theories, Utilitarianism, is the main concern of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second thesis of pure moralistic retributivism, that moral guilt is a sufficient condition for punishment, is far more contentious (Feinber 647). One of the common counterarguments to this point which Feinberg notes is similar to the old addage two wrongs don t make a right . If punishment is justified irrespective of future consequences, and it is assumed that the chosen punishment (i.e. prison time, fine) isn t itself a good, than how can this negative action be justified if it doesn t necessarily bring about some goodness? Retributivists often respond by using the example of sadness as a response to suffering. Neither sadness nor suffering are inherently good, but sadness in response to someone else s suffering is uniquely appropriate (Feinberg 647). In the same way that sadness is the appropriate response to suffering or teachers grade is the appropriate response to a students performance on a test, punishment is the appropriate response to moral guilt on the basis of justice. The concept of justice , the assignment of action on the basis of desert alone, will become imporant later. Another critique raised by Feinberg relates to the third thesis of pure moralistic retributivism: that punishment must be proportionate to the moral gravity of the offense. This thesis implies a number consequences which are problematic. Firstly, if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Bonus Army Research Paper 1932; thats when the chaos started. The elated recently homebound veterans were thrown into a whirl spin when they got back to their homes. Instead of having a peaceful return, they come home to the great depression and become unemployed. The government promised all former Veterans a bonus check worth $1,000 to be obtained in the future. Considering that they are now unemployed and need money to survive, they requested to receive their bonuses earlier. As you can tell, that did not happen. At this point, that was when the Bonus Army was formed. While researching I found that the Bonus Army was the popular name of an assemblage of some 43,000 marchers 17,000 World War I veterans, their families, and affiliated groups who gathered in Washington, D.C., to demand cash payment redemption of their service certificates. It all began in the Spring and Summer of 1932, right in the midst of the great depression. The thousands of people and supporters all gathered in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On July 16th, after congress had recessed some of the members left Capitol Hill. They left because they feared what the bonus army would do to them, and what the army was actually capable of. As an attempt to get the bonus army to withdraw, President Hoover and Congress appropriated $100,000 to the bonus army. The money was for the men and women to buy train tickets back to their homes. What they hadn t known was this money was deducted from their bonuses, making them even smaller at this point. A lot of the protesters took up this offer and went back to their homes and continued with their lives. All but 10,000 protesters went home. As a way to evict all the remaining protesters, the government announced they needed to use the abandoned federal buildings they were staying in. The Algonquin were very peaceful and docile people, when the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts they helped to teach them how to live off their new lands and ultimately ensured the survival of Europeans in North America. Although there are smaller sub sections of the Algonquin tribes, such as the Mohegans, the Pesquots, and the Narragansetts, they were all united through a central language. Shapiro, Kaslow, Maxfield (2007) state the third person brought into the conflict created the triangle in order to establish stability (Shapiro, Kaslow, Maxfield, 2007, p. 171). • 8. Roosevelt, Jefferson, Washington, And Fdr Essay When presenting the question of who deserves the title of best President of the United States, one would not be surprised to find Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, and FDR as the frontrunners. While each of these presidents was undisputedly successful and groundbreaking in their own right, all fall short to America s first modern president Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt, assuming office at the turn of the century, redefined and reimagined the role of the president and the executive officialdom. By expanding the powers of the presidency, Roosevelt was able to move the country forward in both the international arena and on the home front. Roosevelt s vast success can greatly be attributed to his charisma, character, and persuasion skills. He understood that the art of governing was truly the power to persuade, and he mastered the trade. Roosevelt not only improved life domestically as he fought against inequality and corrupt business practices, but he also achieved his goal of gaining influence abroad, thus earning the United Statesa powerful platform on the global stage. Roosevelt s natural leadership, charm, bravery, and compassion combined with his thorough understanding of the country s needs, both for the individual and for the long term well being of the country, made him the most successful president in United States history. I had only been in America for two month when my mother told me I had to start high school next week. I was very nervous and scared, but my mother told me that the school was going to be similar to my schoolin Egypt. I don t remember why I believed her at this time. Thought, I think I wanted to believe that everything was going to be normal and regular. The day before going to school, I went with my mother to buy all my school material. I got one of this large expensive backpack, a pencil, three note books, and colors pens. When I got home, I was relaxed and excited. I loved and enjoyed shopping for school supplies and clothes for my new school. The first day, I woke up two hours early to get ready. I got my hair done and my makeup looked pretty. My mother had to drive me to school because I didn t know my bus number. When I arrived to school, I thought we were in the wrong place, or my mother took me to the mall by accident. The high schoolwas two floor high (looked higher), had a large football field that could fit a large air plane, and parking lot that could fit hundred cars. I needed to get to the registration office because the day I picked my classschedule they told me someone was going to show me around. • 12. Freedom Of Speech Rights In The United States America is a nation that takes pride in its ability to protect the fundamental rights of their citizens such as those mentioned in the 1st amendment. Unfortunately, that was not always the case. During the Lochner era, the right to a freedom of contract was considered a fundamental right. While rights such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and voting, were considered non fundamental. It wasn t until the New Deal era that the court changed the standard to be that rights such as freedom of religion, speech, and voting, were fundamental rights. It is the New Deal standard that is the foundation for our freedom of speech right today in America (GGW, 2017). In other places, the standards are not the same, such as Germany. Both countries grant the right of freedom of speech, but speech is regulated and justified differently. In this paper, the focus will be on how the ruling and justification in the German case Auschwitz lie differs and compares to American constitutional law regarding freedom of speech. In Auschwitz lie, a case was brought in front of the court regarding the freedom of speech right under Basic Law, which is the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany. The National Democratic Party of Germany (NDP) was hosting an event, and had decided to invite the historian David Irving. • 15. Impact Of Piracy On International Trade Essay With the majority of Earth s surface covered by water, the most efficient and cost effective way to transport goods is across that water in ships, due to buoyancy. Ships allow for massive amounts of goods to be transported at once, but these slow, cargo laden ships pose an attractive target to thieves. Piracycauses costly disturbances and dangers that lead to billions of dollars in losses because of captured ships, loss of goods, and the ransoming of the crew. Because of the impact of piracy on the profits and safety of maritime transport companies, several measures have been taken to prevent the capturing of vessels or discourage the pirates wanting to attack the vessel. Efforts to create new technology to prevent pirate boarding and securityhave developed several methods to deal with attacks. The goal of making the vessels more difficult to attack and too dangerous to steal from, has been the focal point of the research and development. The UN has endeavored to solve the effects that piracy caused on international trade, but at the cost not addressing the problems that the piracy originated from. The current merchant marine efforts to deter and defend against piracy have been effective in dropping the levels of raids in recent years. Autism is a developmental disorder which usually occurs during infancy (Hyman, 2002:217). Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an umbrella term used to refer to many disorders which display symptoms of an autistic style. The spectrum covers all types of symptoms ranging from mild to severe (Hollander, 2003:102). Individuals in the spectrum can range from having severe learning disabilities to being mildly impaired (Nimh.nih.gov, 2014). The linguistic skills can also vary from being mute to having the ability to communicate complex sentences (ibid). The different profiles of the sufferers are diverse (Hyman, 2002:217). However, there are three main areas of which they may have difficulties. These are social reciprocity, an inability to communicate effectively and unusual repetitive or restricted behaviour (Davey, 2014:586) this is known as the triad of impairments (Dodd, 2005:2). This essay will explain the triad of impairments related to ASD to describe the main features of the disorder. In addition, it will evaluate the biological evidence by investigating the research for genetic factors and brain abnormalities, both of which support a biological basis for ASD (Davey, 2014:588). The first main area that describes the features of ASD is impairments of reciprocal social interaction (Davey, 2014:585). This is one of the most dominant features of ASD. ... Conflict is a recurring struggle throughout The Great Gatsby and Ken Allen s Roaring Twenties . In Fitzgerald s nonfiction novel, class was one of the main conflicts and reasoning s behind many of the actions from the characters. A major social issue was class socialization. Class socialization refers to the rich socializing with the rich and the poor socializing with the poor. Classes of people were divided by wealth. In The Great Gatsby, Daisy would not be with Gatsby due to his lack of money. Since Gatsby descended from a poor family, Daisy would not accept him as a lover although she was indeed in love with him. Gatsby s lack of wealth led to many other conflicts sustaining from his drive to earn money to prove his worth of her affection. Another conflict in The Great Gatsby was the stock market crash. Many readers depict Sammy as immature and ignorant for quitting his job. However, the author, John Updikecontradicts this assumption, portraying Sammy as a nineteen year old, who demonstrates strong morals, ambition, defiance, and a promising future, characterizing him not as an insolent teen but a developing young man. The sunshine and good weather when Sammy exits A+P is symbolic of his bright future, one filled with potential and success. Sammy was the only person who spoke in defense of the young girls who were ridiculed by Lengel, showing his kindness and compassion, which are admirable qualities of any employee. We do something or act a certain way because we want to fit in with the others around us. Whether it be from bullying, persuasion, teasing, criticism, or social norm, conforming to the way of society is a part of life. Conformity is defined as a change in behavior or belief in order to accord with others. We all strive to be liked and to fit in, sometimes conforming to others around us is the only was we see fit to do so. A person may internally believe that this action is wrong or worthless, but the reason they do it, is to not stand out or publicly make a scene. These people fall victim to majority rule (Myers, 2013). Instead of sticking to their beliefs, they conform to gain acceptance or praise (Myers, 2013). Obedience is the act of conforming due to a command from someone else, usually of higher authority. Milgram performed an experiment on two men at a Yale college psychology laboratory. He studied the effect of when the commands of a higher up personal clashes with ones conscious. In the experiment, One of the men was actually helping Milgram and drew the part of the learner. • 41. Literary Analysis OfThe Goldfinch, By Donna Tartt The story in the novel The Goldfinch, written by Donna Tartt, begins even before Tartt s writing begins. Upon opening the novel, the first sentence present is a quote by Albert Camus, stating, The absurd does not liberate, it binds . Even before beginning this novel, the meaning of this quote shines through; the peculiar things that happen in life are what bring people together, a fate is not necessarily a punishment. This quote begins the first section of the noveland gives great meaning to it as the protagonist quickly learns that his world does not end just because his mother s does. At the beginning of the novel, the protagonist, Theo Decker is introduced in his hotel room in Amsterdam, feeling lonesome and miserable. Shortly after the introduction, the point of view is changed from this older version of Theo to a much younger, thirteen year old Theo. At this point in time, Theo explains about the death of his mother, the woman whom he regarded most highly. While on their way to a meeting with the principal of Theo s school due to his poor behaviour, the two stop at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Theo s mother, Audrey is extremely passionate about art and her favourite painting is entitled The Goldfinch , painted by Carel Fabritius. In stopping to examine the painting, Theo thinks to himself It was a direct and matter of fact little creature, with nothing sentimental about it; and something about the neat, compact way it tucked down inside itself its brightness, its alert watchful expression made me think of pictures I d seen of my mother ... a dark capped finch with steady eyes (Tartt 27). This moment is important because it displays Theo s kind hearted, innocent and observant nature. By comparing his mother to the painting she loves the most, and by finding the good in the painting, despite being plain, Theo demonstrates his innocence and ability to be observant. This comparison between the bird in the painting and his mother leads to the development of a symbol throughout the novel. While in the museum, a terrorist attack occurs. Bombs are set off and multiple explosions occur in the gift shop of the museum, where Audrey is. Fortunately for Theo, who is entranced by a strange looking, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They paint the walls with thought provoking and attention grabbing advertisements designed to steal the audience s attention and sell them a product but more importantly a life style. Consumers numbness to words like best, better, or stronger has forced advertisements to evolve in a dynamic manner. Thus almost all streets and TV screens are painted with streaks of Aristotle s ethos, pathos, and logos. These weapon of persuasion were forged centuries ago, but because there potency is still effective they are still in use today. Hardee s (Carl s Jr.), is one company that does this well. They use ads that capitalize on the sexuality of women and invoke a sense of patriotism. A specific example of this is their The All American Thick Burger ad. By capitalizing on sexuality and patriotism, the ad outlines its target audience as young, red blooded, Merican men. The ad uses strong pathos, powerful ethos, and limited logos in order to effectively sell the Thickburger to the above specified audience The ad starts with a close up on the burger. Examples Of Structuralism In The Movie Coach Carter Structuralism is a philosophy that views society as composed of structures such as class and race that shape our lives, making it challenging for all individuals to have access to equal opportunities. Thus, it is focuses on exposing these structures and investigating power who has it and who doesn t and what we can do to change this, often by way of advocacy, actions, and campaigns, and striving for social change (J. Poole, personal communication, September 13, 2017). Coach Carter is a sports drama based on a real life experience of a former Richmond High alumni and basketball coach, Ken Carter, who became known in 1999 for benching his undefeated basketball team, due to poor academic standing (Watch Coach Carter, n.d.). It is through this film I will illustrate my understanding of structuralism, with a special focus on the lockout that occurs, as it demonstrates power imbalances addressed by advocacy and social action (Watch Coach Carter, n.d.).
