Future of Passenger Aircraft
The future of passenger aircraft and their manufactures has an amazing outlook. Every year the
brightest minds in aviation compile the greatest technological advances towards creating the safest and
most economical aircraft on the planet. No detail is over looked, and the bottom dollar is the all
controlling factor. From private aircraft to public aircraft, space exploration and beyond, the future is
bright for the passenger aircraft market, and everyone who purchases air travel should be excited to
see how industry unfolds.
Let s kick this off! For me, this topic hits home and in my pocket. My uncle, retired Coast Guard

California Gold Rush of 1848
California Gold Rush of 1848 The California Gold Rush happened January 24th, 1848. James Wilson
Marshall was working one day as usual when he seen a shine from the icy winter water. He thought it
was just a trick of the California sun. Becoming Anxious he then went to go check it out, he found five
shiny nuggets. Marshall went back to his station and hammered the nuggets changing its shape but not
breaking it, he found gold. The founding of gold by Marshall brought prospectors, immigrants, and
new technology to what would be known as the Golden State. People were searching for wealth going
crazy trying to found gold. Before the discovery of Gold in 1848, the majority of the West did not
even belong to the United States. Scientists believe it was a form of the manifest destiny. Before then
they didn t even know gold existed. Very few people made money for finding the gold, they were also
told that if they didn t find any gold it was failure, and failure is a terrible sin.
New immigrants that came to the Golden State were often mistreated. They usually only mistreated
Asians. They were also killing each other to take others gold in the mines. The killing lead to more
people coming. The workers finding the gold were not getting payed the way they should have. The
Gold Rush impacted California s landscape by more farming, mines, even funnels were built. While
needing more money the miners decided to grow and sell wheat from inside of the mines for three
dollars per

Environmental Impacts Of Hurricane Sandy
When Hurricanes Attack
Colby Tibbitts
Natural Disasters
02/25/16
During the last few months of 2012, the world was in shock when Hurricane Sandy formed and
disrupted the lives of many people. Hurricane Sandy began on October 22 as a tropical storm in the
Caribbean, then a couple days later developed into a hurricane in the Jamaican area. On October 29,
Hurricane Sandy made its way into New Jersey as a category 2 storm, but eventually started effecting
the northeastern region of The United States. States like Florida, Maine, and New York were greatly
affected. Hurricane Sandy was recorded as the largest Atlantic hurricane. The wind diameter was up
1100 miles. (Trento and Allen, 2014). The way Hurricane Sandy formed was a very rare climate event,
according to Yuval Neria and James M. Shultz. Sandy merged with a polar jet stream and formed a
rare hybrid of a post tropical cyclone and winter storm (Neria and Shultz, 2012). Hurricane Sandy was
breaking all kind of records along the coast. When making landfall, Sandy s minimum central pressure
dropped 946mb, which was the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to John Manuel, Sandy was accountable for an estimate of 234 deaths in 8 countries. The
almost half the deaths, around 97, were reported around the New York metropolitan area. During the
storm, buses and power were down, which made it almost impossible to continue going on after Sandy
hit. The power was out for around 8.5 million days and even weeks after Sandy hit. Unfortunately,
with the damage that Sandy has done on top of the loss of power, technology was failing. Not only
were televisions and phones down, but heating systems and life support in hospitals were failing also.
(Manuel, 2013). Sandy caused about an estimate of 346,000 homes damaged and cost about $65
billion in damages. In NYC alone, the cost was $19 billion and in New Jersey cost as around $30
billion in damages (Trento and Allen,

Hooked On A Myth By Victoria Braithwaite Analysis
Have you ever done something your parents told you not to do. Of course you have, everyone has at
one point, some of us did it because we wanted independence or just to show that we could. Well,
when I was 7 I had a weird obsession with touching the eyes of fish, I don t know why they just
looked shiny, glossy, soft, and smooth. My grandparents had a pet catfish and I would try to touch him
and my grandma would always say, Cyanne Marie leave that fish alone! , one day my grandma was
cleaning the fish tank and I snuck around the back to try and pick him up. A minute later I m running
towards the house screaming that the fish had a knife on his back and cut me, my grandparents both
laughed at me and to this day they keep reminding me about the ... Show more content on

The pixar movie is adorable and entertaining and adds to theories about fish s memories, a persistent
myth that fish can only remember something for 3 to 5 seconds, Dr. Kevin Warburton has been
studying fish behavior for the past 15 years at Charles Sturt University and he says that the theory is
nothing but Rubbish! . Warburton says that fish are sophisticated and that fish can remember prey
types and avoid that predator after being attacked once. They retain that memory for months and once
a fish has been caught on a hook and escape they are able to avoid hooks for at least a year, for
example about a year after the salmon is born they will follow the river to the ocean and six years later
they journey back home to respawn. If your fish at home is swimming around in circles in their bowl
it doesn t mean that they forgot that they already did that, it means that they re just bored, if I had
nothing to do all day 24/7 I would go in circles to and just keep singing, Just keep swimming, just
keep swimming, just keep swimming . Of course we want to defend fish they look dumb and we know
that they can t call for help and when we see someone string up a fish by its mouth, tail, or eye we
empathize. We assume it s painful and we imagine ourselves in that condition and then we get an
extent what they might be feeling. We try to share the emotional experience because observing their
pain activates

Of Mice And Men Movie Vs Book
Of Mice and Men Movie Review
In this adaptation of the book Of Mice and Men, Gary Sinise puts on one of his best performances
ever and directs a fantastic film. The film is able to expand on the novel in a successful way. The
casting in the movie is exceptional and one of the highlights of the whole film. The movie of Mice and
Men is the best adaptation of the book and is a must see film.
In the movie Of Mice and Men, the characters portray the book accurately. In the film the main
character Lennie is played by John Malkovich, who overreacts in the film creating an image of Lennie
that is nothing like the book. In the film he is not able to create as much sympathy in the book as John
Malkovich doesn t play the role well. On the other hand, George played by Gary Sinise, ... Show more

For example, one of the only parts of the book that truly emphasizes Lennie s incredible strength is
when he crushes Curley s hand, but in the film adaptation Gary Sinise adds an extra scene that truly
shows the extent of Lennie s strength. In other instances, Gary Sinise interprets some scenes in a
slightly abnormal way which can sometimes result in success but in this film the different
interpretations negatively affect the suspense in important scenes. In general, Gary Sinise directed this
adaptation admirably.
The film has subtle undertones of symbolization and big ideas . For example, throughout the film the
viewer can easily notice how animals are a recurring theme throughout the film. In most instances, the
animal in the film was not featured in the book. The director makes the symbols obvious so the viewer
can easily understand these symbols. The director is able to have the symbols in the film provoke
more thought, similar to what the book was able to accomplish. Throughout, the film Gary Sinise
succeeds in adding in extra symbols that add to the overall competence of the

Essay on Why I Support Banning Smoking in Public Places
Some businesses prefer that no one smoke cigarettes in any of their offices. Most governments have
banned smoking in all public places. Based on personal experience, personality style and emotional
concern, we find that some hold the notion that smoking in public places should be banned.
Meanwhile, others want to be as free as possible and do as they please, as long as their actions do not
violate the rights of others. From my point of view, it is more sensible to ban smoking in public places
rather than allow second hand smoke to continue to harm people nearby, who breathe in the smoke.
The main reason for my partiality to banning smoking in public places is that second hand smoke can
cause disease as well as death in adults and children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Banning smoking in public places is debatably unfair to smokers. This takes away from their freedom,
however, not banning it is unfair to those that do not smoke, and puts their health in danger. Smoking
makes it unsafe for them to go to public places. For example, in restaurants and other public areas the
smoke does not remain solely in the smoking section. Having a smoking section and a nonsmoking
section in a building is better than mixing everyone together. However, if we drop dye into water,
doesn t it spread? Smoke has the same effect and anyone who has ever paid attention to it will notice
that fact. Smoke spreads from the smoking section all through the building in the air, therefore,
spreading the dangers with it. For this reason, smoking should not be allowed in public places. The
argument I support in the first paragraph is also in a position of benefit because the Surgeon General s
Report concluded, scientific evidence indicates that there is no risk free level of exposure to
secondhand smoke. Short exposures to secondhand smoke can cause blood platelets to become
stickier, damage the lining of blood vessels, decrease coronary flow velocity reserves, and reduce
heart rate variability, potentially increasing the risk of heart attack
(http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E b=35422#two). Although I agree that there may
be some reward to smoking in public places, and that second hand smoke is not

Yet current WTO rules on subsidies, foreign investment, and patents preclude some of the policy
choices made, for example, by South Korea and Taiwan in the past, when rules under the WTO s
predecessor, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, were more permissive. What is more, new
WTO members typically confront demands to conform their trade and industrial policies to standards
that go well beyond existing WTO agreements. The new Basle II international banking standards,
better fitted to banks in industrialized nations, risk making it more difficult for banks in developing
countries to compete.
There are signs of change in the rich world s attitude. Some donors, notably the United Kingdom and
the United States, the latter with its Millennium Challenge Account, are moving away from attaching
explicit, heavy conditions to their grants and loans and are instead screening applicants early to ensure
that assistance will be reasonably well spent. The World Bank and other organizations are designing
programs with countries in which resources are disbursed not in exchange for policy reform but on the
basis of pre agreed benchmarks of progress be it reduced inflation, more children finishing primary
school, or more completed external audits of government accounts. These changes deserve to be
reinforced.
Developed nations can also take positive steps to directly benefit developing countries specifically, by

Another type of Realtree camo, is probably one of the most used in our area. Realtree Xtra, it stands
for its extra effectiveness while hunting. This kind of camo blends in very well, year round, in many
different habitats. It blends in the best when the leaves change through fall to winter, and then early
spring before everything starts to green up. It has a soft background, that includes tree trunks, large

Joseph Haydn Farewell
It has been said that Franz Joseph Haydn is the father of the symphony and as so he is known for his
creative takes on traditional classic music which influenced composers for centuries to follow. Haydn
was not only a composer of symphonies, but wrote many pieces of sacred and secular vocal music,
chamber music, keyboard music, and operas. One of his most famous symphonies was the Symphony
No. 45, which was created during his operatic hiatus in Eszterháza and serves as a petition or request
of sorts towards the prince Nikolaus Esterházy. The piece, now commonly referred to as Farewell ,
relayed the message that the court orchestra in Eszterháza wished to return to their families and was
ultimately successful. Farewell is not obviously ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Haydn is considered as the inventor of the string quartet, as he established the forms and styles. Haydn
was among the first composers to merge fugue into the classical style of music, evolve the rondo form
to include more tonal logic, and experiment with the double variation form. Also as a composer,
Haydn is most known for his infusion of humor, such as the startling chord during a slow movement
in his Surprise symphony or his false endings in various quartets. Haydn began his work just as the
influence of the High Baroque era was fading out and a new style had yet to develop. As the genre of
Classical music spawned and matured, so did Haydn s music; his later work is notably more complex
and urbane when compared to his earlier pieces. Haydn s career never reached the magnitude and
publicity of his contemporaries (Beethoven, Mozart, Bach), but that does not mean his music was not
irrefutably technically masterful, generically appropriate and rhetorically convincing (Webster and

Enduring Love Chapter 1 Analysis
The principles from this chapter that I am going to focus on are forgiving and serving others. Showing
forgiveness and mercy towards others is vital in marriage and family life. When we have grace
towards everyone around us we will inevitably have more love in our lives and relationships. If we are
struggling forgiving a spouse it is important to serve them. When we serve others it will help bring joy
to the person serving and the one being served. If we learn to forgive and serve in our marriages there
will be more love and less contention.
In this chapter the principle I am going to focus on is that all relationship have issues, but if we have
softer hearts the couple can overcome their struggles. When problems arise in a marriage it is
important to work through them, with your spouse, and do not give up. A person can choose to divorce
and move on to another relationship, but this relationship will have its own set of different problems.
No relationship will ever be perfect. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When partners appreciate one another it helps the relationship grow and improve, when they
continuously correct one another it slowly destroys it. If a partner is doing something that angers the
other, they need to fix themselves and love their partner. Focusing on the positive of partners will
build couples closer together instead of driving them apart.
In chapter five a principle that stood out to me is that infidelity is a great iniquity of our generation. In
the world I feel like sex is becoming less valued and sacred. In marriage partners should be faithful to
their spouse physically, mentally, and emotionally. When each partner does this they are protecting
their relationship from emotional heartache that comes from betrayal. When partners in a marriage
water their relationship and give it the attention it needs more joy will be found and infidelity is less
likely to

Online Dating Services and Mister Wrong Essay
As a happily pre engaged woman, with a pre engagement ring, I have no reason to scan the listings of
the ubiquitous dating services on the Web. Yet, ever since I saw the ad, Get Your Flirt On!, curiosity
has gotten the better of me. I spend most of my time in search of eligible men, but I also search for
eligible women. When I first looked at the men in my zip code, I told myself that I was looking for
matches for my friends. But in truth I cannot think of a faster way to lose my single friends than
telling them I have been looking for their perfect match online. So I admit it. I like to see who is

ones who write, well I m kinda new at this but thought I should give it a shot, are not very goal

who say, I am a student in the school of life make me wonder, aren t we all?
Some of the men have potential. The man who says he looks like Ernest Hemingway but does not
have the sexual hang ups might be worth a shot if he weren t three decades my senior. And the one
who said I m a bad dancer, but a good listener sounds promising.
But still, on the whole these men remind me of how happy I am to be a pre engaged woman. When I
look at all the frogs I might have had to kiss, I am glad for my prince, even if he is from a 12 year old
fairytale that is very familiar.
When I finish surveying the men in a given zip code, I look at the women in the same zip code to see
if I can match them up. The man who says he expects breakfast in bed on the first date would be a

As Nazi s army occupies cities and countries all over the Europe, Paris was inevitably erupted and
ruined by the pervasion of Fascism. Many influential European avant garde artists such as Duchamp
and Matisse either immigrated or traveled to the United States of America in order to take a break
from the European social disorders. Paris was no longer the symbol represents freedom and liberty, so
the artists were actively seeking a new location to express their thoughts and to create contemporary

Pixar deliver stories by taking a simple, ordinary imagination, and gradually build up the stories from
a tiny spec, eventually creating an emotional connection with the audience. The main conflict is being
reminded regularly throughout the movie, and the plot never strays far from it. For example, in
Ratatouille the story revolves around Remy s dream to become a chef with the background setting
limited to confined spaces of the restaurant. This could be to ensure the story does not stray far. With
DreamWorks movies, however, the stories are told in a fast pace, taking the audiences on a thrilling
journey through a series of continuous adventures throughout the movie. Jokes are told consistently,
sometimes even including certain elements that could be seen as unnecessary, but nevertheless
entertaining, such as characters bursting into musical numbers. In addition, unlike Pixar, DreamWorks
strays far from realistic things. Their themes are diverse as it often derives from legend, myths,
fairytale, or bizarre imagination. As a result, audiences are provided with action packed, entertaining
movies, often bringing the crowd into a series of laughter. However, though entertaining, the lack of
emotion conveyed resulted in the movies to be less memorable in comparison to Pixar

Designing A New Automated Customer Service System
In the modern business scape, the reality for many companies is to design practices in accordance with
customer expectations, specifically with regards to the ever increasing need for digital options. This is
the case for many industries, with many pondering on how to go about addressing the issue. Bogers
Media is one such company to have taken the liberty of not only addressing but also designing, with
the intent to implement, a new automated customer service system based on machine learning.
Of course, this is not the first of its kind but, if used correctly, it may be among the first in Bogers
particular industry. Automated customer service systems have been integrated into various companies
strategies yielding optimal results. Starbucks saw a measurable profit increase after implementing
their Mobile Order and Pay program. It goes without saying the essentiality of observing what others
have done in this field, inciting an understanding of the risks and challenges associated with such an
endeavor. For this purpose, let us observe the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and their virtual
representative, Cosmo.
Due to the size of their catalogue, the NLM had integrated Cosmo as an addition to their already
present call centre to streamline the process with those who had simpler and/or fewer questions to ask.
According to representatives of the NLM, the advantages of this system include a simpler navigation
tool, an alternative for people who prefer

The second reason for supporting truckload delivery is the value density. It can be calculated as
follows
Value density (woofers) = $740/48bs = $15.42 Airfreight (T2)
Airfreight can also be recommended but the total cost per month will be higher than that of the
truckload. Whereas the deliveries are more frequent as well as the shorter transit time will make it a
better option.
Value density of the Airfreight can be calculated as follows
Value density (Tweeter) = $1190/6 lbs = $198.33
4) What responsibilities will SSE have under your recommendations in question 3?
SSE should always keep in mind the terms and conditions when sourcing their supplies for woofers

obligations end. In the event that the terms originate from FOB, title (possession) to the products
changes hands at the starting point and not at the transportation point or dealer s distribution center

the obligation of the purchaser. In the event that the terms are FOB destination, the title exchanges at

The Story Of An Hour And The Story Of An Hour
Women are taught from a young age that marriage is the end all be all in happiness, in the short story
The Story of An Hour by Kate Chopin and the drama Poof! by Lynn Nottage, we learn that it is not
always the case. Mrs. Mallard from The Story of an Hour and Loureen from Poof! are different
characteristically, story wise, and time wise, but share a similar plight. Two women tied down to men
whom they no longer love and a life they no longer feel is theirs. Unlike widows in happy marriages
Loureen and Mrs., Mallard discover newfound freedom in their respective husband s deaths. Both
stories explore stereotypical housewives who serve their husbands with un stereotypical reactions to
their husband s deaths. Titles often give ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mallard, witnesses her husband s death first hand during a marital argument. Loureen goes through
denial questioning whether her husband s death. She is happy her husband is dead but also feels guilty,
because she knows how a mourning wife should react, but the joy of his demise is greater, I should be

Vermiculite Lab Report
I believe that insoluble solid #3 is actually Vermiculite. I believe this mainly because of the
appearance, the color, and reaction to flame. I also did a density test for vermiculite just for small
reference. The color of vermiculite seems to be either tanish or really light orange. The only other
solid that has a tanish/ light orangish color is sand. This insoluble solid cannot be Sand because when I
did the reaction to flame characteristic property test, it was glowing and if you do the reaction to flame
characteristic property test on sand, discoloration will happen. No discoloration happened at all with
the insoluble solid. The density on the piece that we had was about 1.4 g/ml. I believe that insoluble

density around that are Sand which has a density of about 2.7g/ml, Sodium Peroxide which has a

Permanganate which has a density of about 2.7 g/ml. This solid cannot be Potassium Permanganate
nor Sodium Peroxide because they are both soluble in water and are also soluble in the sludge liquid. I
would say that this insoluble solid cannot be Aluminum because of the color. The color of the rock

little. The rock didn t have an odor either and this is why I believe that this insoluble solid is sand but

Mount Everest Climbers
Mount Everest is the biggest mountain in the world, and because of that attracts many climbers to try
and climb all 29,029 feet of it, but think about all the trash they leave behind while climbing. In 2013
4,000 people have reached Everest s summit, with many more attempting to. Mount Everest has a
natural beauty, one that should be preserved, and people climbing the mountain and leaving their
garbage on it is ruining it. Climbers have a negative impact on Mount Everest, and while journeying to
the top, they are slowly destroying the mountain. First of all, the short article The World s Highest
Mountain describes what Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay experienced and felt as they
climbed Mount Everest and it shows the efforts that they made afterwards to help preserve and keep
the mountain safe from the dangers of climbers. For instance, the text states that Hillary was also
deeply concerned about the environment. He helped establish reforestation programs in Nepal. He also
demanded that mountain climbers clean up the garbage that often got left behind on Mount Everest
materials like used oxygen bottles, which climbers would discard because of their weight (Source #1
7). This shows that Sir Edmund HIllary and Tenzing Norgay understand how much trash climbers
leave behind when climbing Mount Everest because they went on that climb and probably left some
garbage on the mountain. Additionally, it allows the audience to see that climbing the mountain means
leaving trash, and since Hillary understands this from his own climb, he is demanding people pick up
their garbage. For example, paragraph 4 of The World s Highest Mountain it says that The goal Hillary
and Norgay set for themselves wasn t easy. The pair encountered difficult challenges on the way to the
summit, such as narrow ridges and 10,000 foot drops off the mountain. Hillary and Norgay s
experience on the mountain proves to us just how difficult it is to climb Mount Everest. Because it is
so difficult to climb Mount, you wouldn t want to have to carry your garbage up and back down the
mountain, it is easier to leave it on the mountain and that is what most people do. Therefore, because
of the difficulties climbers face when climbing the

about how Sam wants his friend to try green eggs and ham, and after much convincing, he tries them

War Of The Roses And The War Of The Roses
The War of the Roses and mainly the Battle of Towton (1461), were savagely, horrendous, and
insanely bloody battles filled with thousands of deaths, deadly weaponry and overkill, that Britain had
ever seen before. Fought by the Houses of Lancaster and York for control over the English throne for
many years with the use of strategic planning, impressive leadership, and advanced weaponry all
explain the cruel savagery of medieval warfare. Advancement in weaponry and armor was shown
profusely throughout the Battle of Towton with the use of the suit of armor, poleaxe, Mary rose
longbow and the earliest handguns. The English Men At Arms were equipped with the best armor,
which composed of a suit or steal that could weigh up to sixty pounds. These soldiers would fight on
foot to protect their archers and because the horses couldn t not to armored properly. The armor was
very resistant to hand to hand combat, the heavy metal made for good protection, but the downfall is
that it was a heavy suit to have to fight in. The poleaxe was the main used weapon at this time,
consisted of an axe on one end and a sword on the other. Nevertheless, this weapon was especially
gruesome for smashing and taking down their opponent in battle. Once the Yorkists had won the battle
of Towton they savagely went after the fleeing Lancastrians showing no mercy, cutting any survivors
down causing a bloodbath. Using the poleaxe and other swords they bloodily slashed, smashed and
murdered the surviving Lancastrians, causing a deadly defeat of the Lancastrian army and a cruel but a
well earned victory for the Yorkists. The Mary Rose long bow became the national weapon of England
during this time. It was a long, heavy bow that weighed up to one hundred and eighty pounds, had a
range of three hundred yards and if the bowman was well trained, it could shoot up to 20 arrows a
minute. This weapon could penetrate most armor, but required great strength and practice to use
effectively. The handguns were the newest weapon at the time so they were used at close range as they
could not be shot very far, but were very deadly to the opponent that is getting shot at. The weaponry
of medieval warfare shows that this time period was bloody, gruesome

Importance Of Primary And Secondary Socialisation
Unit 4 Learning aim A What is primary and secondary socialisation? In the midst of basic
socialisation, youths take in different crucial things that they ought to function as they create. These
lessons are discovered not simply by direct instructing, like how to scrutinise and make, moreover
roundabout by viewing friends and family. Children can get practices, traditions and acknowledge
what is ordinary from them through facilitated and underhanded correspondence. Discretionary
socialisation can be all the more difficult to recognise or encounter. Exactly when youths are in
fundamental stages, they are recognised really whether they get things right or not. When they

Myths, Morals, And Rules
Life is a series of life lessons, morals, and rules that we all live by and learn through every decision
we make. A way these lessons, morals, and rules are shown and told is through myths. A myth is a
traditional story from a certain ethnic, religion, place, or culture, and explains how and why things are
the way they are. Myths also incorporate a moral, theme, or life lesson, which becomes clear at the
end of the story. As a child I m sure you ve heard stories from your family whether a more unknown
myth or common tale that you got something out of, whether it was learning something new, or
something you already knew that simply got reinforced. But if you re like me, then it ll take some time

were 407.64km, 253.31mi apart and they were still told the same myths, with the exception of a few
details. Furthermore, another person who has heard this myth from past generations is Sonia Jackson,
who was a senior at Tennessee University in 2008. Sonia Jacksons grandmother Dr. Natividad
Corrales Taboada told her daughter, Maria Jackson, Sonia s mother, who then told Sonia and her
siblings the story. There is also a controversy of whether the myth was created before or after the
Spanish invasion, but it s difficult to know for sure. As you can see this myth is probably very old, to
have gone through at least eighty two years, it could easily have existed for a century.
Usually, Filipino myths are passed down through words spoken and are grouped into four main
groups. The first are myths that explain the creation of the universe, god (Bathala or Maykapal), the
origin of man, supernatural beings and the native Filipino heroes. Second, are legends that tell the
origin of a local phenomenon, places, plants, animals, thoughts, and names. Third, are fables where
animals or inanimate beings are made to speak and act like rational beings to point out morals, this is
the group the myth falls into, but also has aspects from the second group because

Misinformant And Misreading Ian Mcewan s Atonement
Misinformant and Wrongful conclusions In his essay Who Killed Robbie and Cecilia? Reading and
Misreading Ian McEwan s Atonement Martin Jacobi argues the role of misreading in Ian McEwan s
Atonement and the consequences of misreading and reading with preconception. Misreading is the
incorrect or misinterpretation of a reading. In McEwan s Atonement misreading is a key concept that
allows Ian McEwan to persuade readers into believing situations and conclusions that are not
confirmed. Jacobi s main argument examples focuses on the misreading and interpretation of two
main characters deaths, Robbie and Cecilia. The misreading in Atonement causes readers to believe
they are dead even though it is not confirmed. Jacobi further argues that along with misreading
reading with preconceptions also leads to misinterpretation, that when we read we have
preconceptions about the novel which leads to assumptions about what will occur. (Jacobi 71) While
Jacobi argues the negative of having preconceptions about a novel, having knowledge and information
about a novel and the author can be beneficial when trying to understand the novel and the why in the
novel. Knowing information about when the novel is set, what was happening during this time can be
useful for understanding as well as useful for avoiding misreadings. Although I agree with Jacobi s
argument that misreading and reading with preconceptions can lead to misinterpretation and wrong
conclusions, I do believe that having

Gender Stereotypes In Video Games
Introduction
As per the findings of the general social survey, administered by Statistics Canada (2010), video game
usage has more than doubled in the last 20 years. Most researchers seem to agree that the stereotypical
video game player is a young, white, heterosexual male (e.g. Shaw, 2012; Williams, Consalvo,
Caplan, Yee, 2009). In considering the topic of gender and gaming, one of the first questions to
consider is whether or not this stereotypical view of video game players is accurate. The
Entertainment Software Association (ESA) publishes a report containing statistics on video game

objectification for men was the same as for women; however, exaggerated bust was excluded from the

Example Of Counterfactual Thinking
According to Byrne, Epstude, Roese and Roese as cited in Roesse and Morisson (2009),
counterfactual thoughts pertains to mental representations which are explicitly different to facts or
beliefs. The term counterfactual represents a concurrence against reality and actuality. Usually,
negative or strange situations activate counterfactual thinking processes. In addition, the form of
counterfactual thoughts is similar to conditional statements which comprises of two aspects:
antecedent and consequent. The antecedent involves the action as well as decision of a person whereas
the consequent provides a description of a state of being and usually structured in evaluative
conditions. There are two outcomes which can be the focus of counterfactuals: alternative
consequences which are better than reality known as upward counterfactuals and alternative results
that are not as good as the actuality called downward counterfactuals (Roesee and Morisson, 2009).
Numerous studies and researches demonstrated the negative outcomes of counterfactual thinking.

Mean Men Case Study
CHAPTER FOUR The Mainstreaming of Mean Mean men are hardly a new phenomenon, and the
tyrannical boss has been a familiar archetype in American culture ever since the invention of the
modern industrial era workplace. In fact, in many ways organizational culture is far more touchy feely
now than it used to be much as corporeal punishment in schools is out, along with spanking your kids.
Yet powerful forces have been at work in American society that have fueled bad behavior in high
places, allowing more mean men to get to the top and stay there, even as they create misery all around
them. These forces can be roughly divided in two baskets: first, thanks to changes in the economy and
business, men can rise to leadership roles without having to pay their dues in large organizations and
having their rough edges sanded down along the way. Second, thanks to a combination of economic
and cultural changes, men feel more license to exhibit outsized personality traits, including very
negative ones, and can more easily get away with bad behavior as long as they get results. Let s dig
into the both these baskets. Free Agent Nation It s unlikely that a guy like Aaron could ever have

The Gig Is USmmary
The Gig Is Up by Nathan Heller is a lengthy article that appeared in The New Yorker, an American
magazine. In his article, Heller explains that more and more people are relying on a gig economy as
their source of income. He focuses on the millennials more than any other generation because they
seem to rely on this economy more. Although gigging can make life a lot more simple, Heller leaves
his audience with a lingering question. Can they survive it? He sets the stage for his audience by
telling a personal experience of his. He moved into an apartment but minor tasks such as hanging
picture frames and artwork had yet to be finished. When the incompletion of tasks became
overwhelming he found an online source, TaskRabbit, and hired someone to complete the tasks for
him. He found a man by the name of Seth F., who wore no tie but had a ninety nine percent approval

A final conversation with Flickers leaves the audience wondering how great the gig economy actually
is: He rarely met other taskers, he said; there were no colleagues in his life with whom he could share
experiences and struggles. The flexibility was great, if you had something to be flexible for. The gig
economy is such a lonely economy (Heller 63). Not only does the excerpt appeal to ethos but also
pathos. The strategies used throughout the article make the audience think about the opportunities the
gig economy provides but also the problems it can create as well. Highly educated people like Seth
Flickers who are a part of this economy are now more than ever before, aware of the careers that they
re not pursuing (Heller 55). When people work twenty or less hours a week, like Seth F., there tends to
be more time to think about how comfortable they are with the way of life. The gig economy does not
allow its workers to have a fallback plan or a social

Such as, during the 1936 Berlin Olympics when he made an extraordinary appearance as he ran his
hardest during his final lap. For instance, He began a dramatic acceleration, around the turn and down
the backstretch, Louie kicked his legs reaching and pushing, his speed dazzling. One by one, runners
came up ahead faded behind. (36). This demonstrates his determination when he runs, not giving up
but uses everything he s got to finish the race strong. Despite his running passion, Louie brought all

Childcare Is An Attractive Business Opportunity
Background
Childcare in Australia reflects a market system, providing an attractive business opportunity, as the
Commonwealth guarantees up to 50% of the organisations income. However, markets and childcare
are a poor combination, with the price of quality services increasing, leaving individuals of low socio
economic status (SES) with poorer quality education (Phillips, 2009).
Currently, childcare in Australia encourages inflation and does not incentivise women to work
(FactCheck, 2015). The Commonwealth provides 3 primary payments, The Childcare Benefit (CCB),
The Childcare Rebate (CCR) and the Jobs, Education and Training Childcare Fee Assistance
(JETCCFA). Further details are in Appendix A.
The Coalition s Proposition
The Coalition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essentially doubled the price the consumer was willing to pay. In a supply and demand market,
this allowed the supplier to charge more, leading to hyperinflated prices.
The benchmark price means that the Commonwealth will pay 50% of the cost of the childcare, up to a
certain amount. For example, with a benchmark of $10/hour, parents would receive no more
compensation for $30/hour childcare than for $20/hour care.
Changes for low income earners (LIEs)
Those earning under $65,000/year may receive up to 12 hours of childcare/week with no activity test,
reduced from 24. The Childcare subsidy for these LIEs will be 85% of the fee, or the benchmark price
whichever is lower.
Changes for middle income earners (MIEs)
For MIEs, the childcare subsidy will be either 50% of the fees charged, or the benchmark price
whichever is lower.
There will be no cap on the amount of subsidies MIEs and LIEs can receive.
Changes for high income earners (HIEs)
HIE s cap will increase to $10,000 per child, from $7,500 received through the CCR. Their childcare
subsidy will be either 50% of fees, or the benchmark price whichever is lower.
Introduction of Nannies
The Government proposed an In Home Care program, permitting Nannies to deliver services to those
whose needs do not suit traditional childcare centres, such shift workers and those in remote areas.
Budget
$7 Billion was spent on childcare between 2014 2015. The proposed

My Trip To Colorado River Analysis
My Visit to the Colorado River Last spring, I had the opportunity to visit the Colorado River, one of
the most beautiful rivers of the country. It was a sunny afternoon and I rented a row boat from
Bullhead city to cruise the river because, I did not want the noise of a motorboat to distract me from
enjoying the immense beauty of nature. The first thing that I noticed when I started rowing was the
slow, steady, and languid flow of the water. This continual flow is charming enough to amaze any
person. It just keeps rolling on and it flows murmuring by to join the vast expanse of the ocean. The
soft sound of the waves was a treat to hear. I touched the water with my hand and the temperature was
perfect. There were various kinds of watercrafts (from inner tubes to large motor boats) of different
colors in the river. But thankfully, it was not too crowded. Moreover, there were different types of
businesses (from boat rental to seafood restaurants) along the shoreline. When my boat was near the
shore, I could even smell the yummy Crab Cakes and Paella. These smells along with the smell of ...

It was my first ever experience of star gazing while rowing a small boat in a river. The feeling was
obviously phenomenal. Finally, it was time for me to return to the shore, even though I did not really
want to leave this amazing scenery behind. The overall beauty of the Colorado River (both in day and
night) had, so to say, a moral aspect, all its own. Its variety, beauty, and grandeur filled my mind with
a sense of my smallness, humbled my pride and, at least for that time being, carried me away to a
better and nobler world of imagination where all the other issues of my life felt so trivial. Although I
had a camera on me, I was so lost in the breathtaking beauty of the river that for a while, I even forgot
to take any picture. I was just so busy in enjoying myself in the vastness of this

My Mexican Heritage
I really did not think there was anything extraordinary about my culture and heritage because I have
lived in a Crystal City, Texas my whole life. Being Mexican American was really the usually thing so I
did not consider anything special of it, but my history has shown me otherwise. Living in a small town
has shown me that I can leave a legacy, keep the heritage of my family alive, and still strive to have an
education. Even though I live in a small town, it still holds a lot of history. The walkout in Crystal
City, Texas was a major event that made Mexican Americans remembered. In Cynthia Orozco s article
she says the Crystal City High School walkout happened because Chicano s were not being giving
equal rights. (Orozco) Orozco ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My grandfather Frailan Sendejo s father Gregorio Sendeja would take him to work in the fields every
summer. So, just like his father, my grandfather got married and had my father Enrique Sendejo and
worked in the fields every summer just like they did with him. My father said to me My dad and I
went to multiple states like North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. (Sendejo) It was
tough for my father because he never got to go to a full year of school, he had to leave during the
school year and then come back late in the next school year. My father told me Some summers were
harder than others because I would go on a bus to another state and work without my parents to pick
cucumbers. (Sendejo) He also said I had to walk on my knees all across the fields and back to help
support my family, and I would only get paid $40 for the day. (Sendejo) When he went back to Crystal
one year he went to school and met my mother Gina Sendejo. My father was going to have to leave to
the fields again, so my mother decided to go with him. Though, after a few years they decided to stop
migrating up North to focus on their careers and family. I never realized how difficult it was for my
father to get to be the person he is today, but I m glad that he and my mother brought me to where I
am today, so I can continue to share their

Business Skills For A New Home
The job requirements are straight forward and do not ask for much. Some of the duties consists of
promoting property through ads, open houses and listing services. Advertising is key to attract
potential buyers and spread your business name around. Advising clients on prices of homes, current
market conditions and other market information also come into play. Taking prospective buyers to
view properties and persuading them to consider investing in a new home. As well as bringing
together negotiations between the buyer and seller. These are just a few things that the real estate
business will ask for.
I believe I have all the personal characteristics and skills needed to be a sales agent or broker. I plan to
go to college to learn all the necessary business skills to be successful. Most sales agents and brokers
are self employed. This means they have to maintain a functional business without wasting money and
losing valuable time. Great business skills come in handy when you run everything on your own.
Problems will pop up eventually which will require quick thinking and reaction time. Problem solving
skills aren t going to be frequently used but nevertheless, you can never over prepare for the worst.
Organizations skills can help have your work space clean and keep you on track during the day.
Always being able to have yourself on the ball can lead to more jobs or goals being completed. Lastly,
the income you make depends on your sales which means you need to have

James Wilson Marshall was working one day as usual when he seen a shine from the icy winter water. He thought it was just a trick of the California sun. Becoming Anxious he then went to go check it out, he found five shiny nuggets. Marshall went back to his station and hammered the nuggets changing its shape but not breaking it, he found gold. The founding of gold by Marshall brought prospectors, immigrants, and new technology to what would be known as the Golden State. People were searching for wealth going crazy trying to found gold. Before the discovery of Gold in 1848, the majority of the West did not even belong to the United States. Scientists believe it was a form of the manifest destiny. Before then they didn t even know gold existed. Very few people made money for finding the gold, they were also told that if they didn t find any gold it was failure, and failure is a terrible sin. New immigrants that came to the Golden State were often mistreated. They usually only mistreated Asians. They were also killing each other to take others gold in the mines. The killing lead to more people coming. The workers finding the gold were not getting payed the way they should have. The Gold Rush impacted California s landscape by more farming, mines, even funnels were built. Environmental Impacts Of Hurricane Sandy When Hurricanes Attack Colby Tibbitts Natural Disasters 02/25/16 During the last few months of 2012, the world was in shock when Hurricane Sandy formed and disrupted the lives of many people. Hurricane Sandy began on October 22 as a tropical storm in the Caribbean, then a couple days later developed into a hurricane in the Jamaican area. On October 29, Hurricane Sandy made its way into New Jersey as a category 2 storm, but eventually started effecting the northeastern region of The United States. States like Florida, Maine, and New York were greatly affected. Hurricane Sandy was recorded as the largest Atlantic hurricane. The wind diameter was up 1100 miles. (Trento and Allen, 2014). The way Hurricane Sandy formed was a very rare climate event, according to Yuval Neria and James M. Shultz. Sandy merged with a polar jet stream and formed a rare hybrid of a post tropical cyclone and winter storm (Neria and Shultz, 2012). Hurricane Sandy was breaking all kind of records along the coast. • 6. Hooked On A Myth By Victoria Braithwaite Analysis Have you ever done something your parents told you not to do. Of course you have, everyone has at one point, some of us did it because we wanted independence or just to show that we could. Well, when I was 7 I had a weird obsession with touching the eyes of fish, I don t know why they just looked shiny, glossy, soft, and smooth. My grandparents had a pet catfish and I would try to touch him and my grandma would always say, Cyanne Marie leave that fish alone! , one day my grandma was cleaning the fish tank and I snuck around the back to try and pick him up. A minute later I m running towards the house screaming that the fish had a knife on his back and cut me, my grandparents both laughed at me and to this day they keep reminding me about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pixar movie is adorable and entertaining and adds to theories about fish s memories, a persistent myth that fish can only remember something for 3 to 5 seconds, Dr. Kevin Warburton has been studying fish behavior for the past 15 years at Charles Sturt University and he says that the theory is nothing but Rubbish! . Warburton says that fish are sophisticated and that fish can remember prey types and avoid that predator after being attacked once. They retain that memory for months and once a fish has been caught on a hook and escape they are able to avoid hooks for at least a year, for example about a year after the salmon is born they will follow the river to the ocean and six years later they journey back home to respawn. If your fish at home is swimming around in circles in their bowl it doesn t mean that they forgot that they already did that, it means that they re just bored, if I had nothing to do all day 24/7 I would go in circles to and just keep singing, Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming . Of course we want to defend fish they look dumb and we know that they can t call for help and when we see someone string up a fish by its mouth, tail, or eye we empathize. We assume it s painful and we imagine ourselves in that condition and then we get an extent what they might be feeling. • 7. Of Mice And Men Movie Vs Book Of Mice and Men Movie Review In this adaptation of the book Of Mice and Men, Gary Sinise puts on one of his best performances ever and directs a fantastic film. The film is able to expand on the novel in a successful way. The casting in the movie is exceptional and one of the highlights of the whole film. The movie of Mice and Men is the best adaptation of the book and is a must see film. In the movie Of Mice and Men, the characters portray the book accurately. In the film the main character Lennie is played by John Malkovich, who overreacts in the film creating an image of Lennie that is nothing like the book. In the film he is not able to create as much sympathy in the book as John Malkovich doesn t play the role well. On the other hand, George played by Gary Sinise, ... In general, Gary Sinise directed this adaptation admirably. The film has subtle undertones of symbolization and big ideas . For example, throughout the film the viewer can easily notice how animals are a recurring theme throughout the film. In most instances, the animal in the film was not featured in the book. The director makes the symbols obvious so the viewer can easily understand these symbols. The director is able to have the symbols in the film provoke more thought, similar to what the book was able to accomplish. • 8. Essay on Why I Support Banning Smoking in Public Places Some businesses prefer that no one smoke cigarettes in any of their offices. Most governments have banned smoking in all public places. Based on personal experience, personality style and emotional concern, we find that some hold the notion that smoking in public places should be banned. Meanwhile, others want to be as free as possible and do as they please, as long as their actions do not violate the rights of others. From my point of view, it is more sensible to ban smoking in public places rather than allow second hand smoke to continue to harm people nearby, who breathe in the smoke. The main reason for my partiality to banning smoking in public places is that second hand smoke can cause disease as well as death in adults and children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Banning smoking in public places is debatably unfair to smokers. This takes away from their freedom, however, not banning it is unfair to those that do not smoke, and puts their health in danger. Smoking makes it unsafe for them to go to public places. For example, in restaurants and other public areas the smoke does not remain solely in the smoking section. Having a smoking section and a nonsmoking section in a building is better than mixing everyone together. However, if we drop dye into water, doesn t it spread? Smoke has the same effect and anyone who has ever paid attention to it will notice that fact. Smoke spreads from the smoking section all through the building in the air, therefore, spreading the dangers with it. For this reason, smoking should not be allowed in public places. The argument I support in the first paragraph is also in a position of benefit because the Surgeon General s Report concluded, scientific evidence indicates that there is no risk free level of exposure to secondhand smoke. Short exposures to secondhand smoke can cause blood platelets to become stickier, damage the lining of blood vessels, decrease coronary flow velocity reserves, and reduce heart rate variability, potentially increasing the risk of heart attack (http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvLUK9O0E b=35422#two). The new Basle II international banking standards, better fitted to banks in industrialized nations, risk making it more difficult for banks in developing countries to compete. There are signs of change in the rich world s attitude. Some donors, notably the United Kingdom and the United States, the latter with its Millennium Challenge Account, are moving away from attaching explicit, heavy conditions to their grants and loans and are instead screening applicants early to ensure that assistance will be reasonably well spent. The World Bank and other organizations are designing programs with countries in which resources are disbursed not in exchange for policy reform but on the basis of pre agreed benchmarks of progress be it reduced inflation, more children finishing primary school, or more completed external audits of government accounts. • 11. Joseph Haydn Farewell It has been said that Franz Joseph Haydn is the father of the symphony and as so he is known for his creative takes on traditional classic music which influenced composers for centuries to follow. Haydn was not only a composer of symphonies, but wrote many pieces of sacred and secular vocal music, chamber music, keyboard music, and operas. One of his most famous symphonies was the Symphony No. 45, which was created during his operatic hiatus in Eszterháza and serves as a petition or request of sorts towards the prince Nikolaus Esterházy. Also as a composer, Haydn is most known for his infusion of humor, such as the startling chord during a slow movement in his Surprise symphony or his false endings in various quartets. Haydn began his work just as the influence of the High Baroque era was fading out and a new style had yet to develop. As the genre of Classical music spawned and matured, so did Haydn s music; his later work is notably more complex and urbane when compared to his earlier pieces. • 12. Enduring Love Chapter 1 Analysis The principles from this chapter that I am going to focus on are forgiving and serving others. Showing forgiveness and mercy towards others is vital in marriage and family life. When we have grace towards everyone around us we will inevitably have more love in our lives and relationships. If we are struggling forgiving a spouse it is important to serve them. When we serve others it will help bring joy to the person serving and the one being served. If we learn to forgive and serve in our marriages there will be more love and less contention. In this chapter the principle I am going to focus on is that all relationship have issues, but if we have softer hearts the couple can overcome their struggles. When problems arise in a marriage it is important to work through them, with your spouse, and do not give up. A person can choose to divorce and move on to another relationship, but this relationship will have its own set of different problems. No relationship will ever be perfect. When ... In chapter five a principle that stood out to me is that infidelity is a great iniquity of our generation. In the world I feel like sex is becoming less valued and sacred. In marriage partners should be faithful to their spouse physically, mentally, and emotionally. When each partner does this they are protecting their relationship from emotional heartache that comes from betrayal. When partners in a marriage water their relationship and give it the attention it needs more joy will be found and infidelity is less likely to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I also did a density test for vermiculite just for small reference. The color of vermiculite seems to be either tanish or really light orange. The only other solid that has a tanish/ light orangish color is sand. This insoluble solid cannot be Sand because when I did the reaction to flame characteristic property test, it was glowing and if you do the reaction to flame characteristic property test on sand, discoloration will happen. • 23. Mount Everest Climbers Mount Everest is the biggest mountain in the world, and because of that attracts many climbers to try and climb all 29,029 feet of it, but think about all the trash they leave behind while climbing. In 2013 4,000 people have reached Everest s summit, with many more attempting to. Mount Everest has a natural beauty, one that should be preserved, and people climbing the mountain and leaving their garbage on it is ruining it. Climbers have a negative impact on Mount Everest, and while journeying to the top, they are slowly destroying the mountain. First of all, the short article The World s Highest Mountain describes what Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay experienced and felt as they climbed Mount Everest and it shows the efforts that they made afterwards to help preserve and keep the mountain safe from the dangers of climbers. For instance, the text states that Hillary was also deeply concerned about the environment. He helped establish reforestation programs in Nepal. He also demanded that mountain climbers clean up the garbage that often got left behind on Mount Everest materials like used oxygen bottles, which climbers would discard because of their weight (Source #1 7). This shows that Sir Edmund HIllary and Tenzing Norgay understand how much trash climbers leave behind when climbing Mount Everest because they went on that climb and probably left some garbage on the mountain. Additionally, it allows the audience to see that climbing the mountain means leaving trash, and since Hillary understands this from his own climb, he is demanding people pick up their garbage. For example, paragraph 4 of The World s Highest Mountain it says that The goal Hillary and Norgay set for themselves wasn t easy. The pair encountered difficult challenges on the way to the summit, such as narrow ridges and 10,000 foot drops off the mountain. Hillary and Norgay s experience on the mountain proves to us just how difficult it is to climb Mount Everest. Because it is so difficult to climb Mount, you wouldn t want to have to carry your garbage up and back down the mountain, it is easier to leave it on the mountain and that is what most people do. War Of The Roses And The War Of The Roses The War of the Roses and mainly the Battle of Towton (1461), were savagely, horrendous, and insanely bloody battles filled with thousands of deaths, deadly weaponry and overkill, that Britain had ever seen before. Fought by the Houses of Lancaster and York for control over the English throne for many years with the use of strategic planning, impressive leadership, and advanced weaponry all explain the cruel savagery of medieval warfare. Advancement in weaponry and armor was shown profusely throughout the Battle of Towton with the use of the suit of armor, poleaxe, Mary rose longbow and the earliest handguns. The English Men At Arms were equipped with the best armor, which composed of a suit or steal that could weigh up to sixty pounds. These soldiers would fight on foot to protect their archers and because the horses couldn t not to armored properly. The armor was very resistant to hand to hand combat, the heavy metal made for good protection, but the downfall is that it was a heavy suit to have to fight in. The poleaxe was the main used weapon at this time, consisted of an axe on one end and a sword on the other. Nevertheless, this weapon was especially gruesome for smashing and taking down their opponent in battle. Once the Yorkists had won the battle of Towton they savagely went after the fleeing Lancastrians showing no mercy, cutting any survivors down causing a bloodbath. Using the poleaxe and other swords they bloodily slashed, smashed and murdered the surviving Lancastrians, causing a deadly defeat of the Lancastrian army and a cruel but a well earned victory for the Yorkists. The Mary Rose long bow became the national weapon of England during this time. It was a long, heavy bow that weighed up to one hundred and eighty pounds, had a range of three hundred yards and if the bowman was well trained, it could shoot up to 20 arrows a minute. This weapon could penetrate most armor, but required great strength and practice to use effectively. The handguns were the newest weapon at the time so they were used at close range as they could not be shot very far, but were very deadly to the opponent that is getting shot at. Myths also incorporate a moral, theme, or life lesson, which becomes clear at the end of the story. Sonia Jacksons grandmother Dr. Natividad Corrales Taboada told her daughter, Maria Jackson, Sonia s mother, who then told Sonia and her siblings the story. There is also a controversy of whether the myth was created before or after the Spanish invasion, but it s difficult to know for sure. Usually, Filipino myths are passed down through words spoken and are grouped into four main groups. The first are myths that explain the creation of the universe, god (Bathala or Maykapal), the origin of man, supernatural beings and the native Filipino heroes. Second, are legends that tell the origin of a local phenomenon, places, plants, animals, thoughts, and names. Reading and Misreading Ian McEwan s Atonement Martin Jacobi argues the role of misreading in Ian McEwan s Atonement and the consequences of misreading and reading with preconception. Misreading is the incorrect or misinterpretation of a reading. In McEwan s Atonement misreading is a key concept that allows Ian McEwan to persuade readers into believing situations and conclusions that are not confirmed. Jacobi s main argument examples focuses on the misreading and interpretation of two main characters deaths, Robbie and Cecilia. The misreading in Atonement causes readers to believe they are dead even though it is not confirmed. Jacobi further argues that along with misreading reading with preconceptions also leads to misinterpretation, that when we read we have preconceptions about the novel which leads to assumptions about what will occur. (Jacobi 71) While Jacobi argues the negative of having preconceptions about a novel, having knowledge and information about a novel and the author can be beneficial when trying to understand the novel and the why in the novel. Knowing information about when the novel is set, what was happening during this time can be useful for understanding as well as useful for avoiding misreadings. Example Of Counterfactual Thinking According to Byrne, Epstude, Roese and Roese as cited in Roesse and Morisson (2009), counterfactual thoughts pertains to mental representations which are explicitly different to facts or beliefs. Mean Men Case Study CHAPTER FOUR The Mainstreaming of Mean Mean men are hardly a new phenomenon, and the tyrannical boss has been a familiar archetype in American culture ever since the invention of the modern industrial era workplace. Yet powerful forces have been at work in American society that have fueled bad behavior in high places, allowing more mean men to get to the top and stay there, even as they create misery all around them. These forces can be roughly divided in two baskets: first, thanks to changes in the economy and business, men can rise to leadership roles without having to pay their dues in large organizations and having their rough edges sanded down along the way. Second, thanks to a combination of economic and cultural changes, men feel more license to exhibit outsized personality traits, including very negative ones, and can more easily get away with bad behavior as long as they get results. • 41. The Gig Is USmmary The Gig Is Up by Nathan Heller is a lengthy article that appeared in The New Yorker, an American magazine. In his article, Heller explains that more and more people are relying on a gig economy as their source of income. He focuses on the millennials more than any other generation because they seem to rely on this economy more. Although gigging can make life a lot more simple, Heller leaves his audience with a lingering question. Can they survive it? He sets the stage for his audience by telling a personal experience of his. He moved into an apartment but minor tasks such as hanging picture frames and artwork had yet to be finished. When the incompletion of tasks became overwhelming he found an online source, TaskRabbit, and hired someone to complete the tasks for him. A final conversation with Flickers leaves the audience wondering how great the gig economy actually is: He rarely met other taskers, he said; there were no colleagues in his life with whom he could share experiences and struggles. The flexibility was great, if you had something to be flexible for. The gig economy is such a lonely economy (Heller 63). Not only does the excerpt appeal to ethos but also pathos. The strategies used throughout the article make the audience think about the opportunities the gig economy provides but also the problems it can create as well. Highly educated people like Seth Flickers who are a part of this economy are now more than ever before, aware of the careers that they re not pursuing (Heller 55). When people work twenty or less hours a week, like Seth F., there tends to be more time to think about how comfortable they are with the way of life. • 43. Childcare Is An Attractive Business Opportunity Background Childcare in Australia reflects a market system, providing an attractive business opportunity, as the Commonwealth guarantees up to 50% of the organisations income. However, markets and childcare are a poor combination, with the price of quality services increasing, leaving individuals of low socio economic status (SES) with poorer quality education (Phillips, 2009). Currently, childcare in Australia encourages inflation and does not incentivise women to work (FactCheck, 2015). The Commonwealth provides 3 primary payments, The Childcare Benefit (CCB), The Childcare Rebate (CCR) and the Jobs, Education and Training Childcare Fee Assistance (JETCCFA). Further details are in Appendix A. The Coalition s Proposition The Coalition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This essentially doubled the price the consumer was willing to pay. In a supply and demand market, this allowed the supplier to charge more, leading to hyperinflated prices. The benchmark price means that the Commonwealth will pay 50% of the cost of the childcare, up to a certain amount. For example, with a benchmark of $10/hour, parents would receive no more compensation for $30/hour childcare than for $20/hour care. Changes for low income earners (LIEs) Those earning under $65,000/year may receive up to 12 hours of childcare/week with no activity test, reduced from 24. The Childcare subsidy for these LIEs will be 85% of the fee, or the benchmark price whichever is lower. Changes for middle income earners (MIEs) For MIEs, the childcare subsidy will be either 50% of the fees charged, or the benchmark price whichever is lower. There will be no cap on the amount of subsidies MIEs and LIEs can receive. Changes for high income earners (HIEs) HIE s cap will increase to $10,000 per child, from $7,500 received through the CCR. Their childcare subsidy will be either 50% of fees, or the benchmark price whichever is lower. Introduction of Nannies The Government proposed an In Home Care program, permitting Nannies to deliver services to those whose needs do not suit traditional childcare centres, such shift workers and those in remote areas. • 44. My Trip To Colorado River Analysis My Visit to the Colorado River Last spring, I had the opportunity to visit the Colorado River, one of the most beautiful rivers of the country. It was a sunny afternoon and I rented a row boat from Bullhead city to cruise the river because, I did not want the noise of a motorboat to distract me from enjoying the immense beauty of nature. The first thing that I noticed when I started rowing was the slow, steady, and languid flow of the water. This continual flow is charming enough to amaze any person. It just keeps rolling on and it flows murmuring by to join the vast expanse of the ocean. The soft sound of the waves was a treat to hear. I touched the water with my hand and the temperature was perfect. There were various kinds of watercrafts (from inner tubes to large motor boats) of different colors in the river. But thankfully, it was not too crowded. Moreover, there were different types of businesses (from boat rental to seafood restaurants) along the shoreline. When my boat was near the shore, I could even smell the yummy Crab Cakes and Paella. These smells along with the smell of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was my first ever experience of star gazing while rowing a small boat in a river. The feeling was obviously phenomenal. Finally, it was time for me to return to the shore, even though I did not really want to leave this amazing scenery behind. The overall beauty of the Colorado River (both in day and night) had, so to say, a moral aspect, all its own. Its variety, beauty, and grandeur filled my mind with a sense of my smallness, humbled my pride and, at least for that time being, carried me away to a better and nobler world of imagination where all the other issues of my life felt so trivial. Although I had a camera on me, I was so lost in the breathtaking beauty of the river that for a while, I even forgot to take any picture. I was just so busy in enjoying myself in the vastness of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
