Animal Testing History
Have you ever pondered the idea of living your life without the ability to control even the most basic
things? Being put into a small, dark, cold cage without having the chance to break free. Being forced
to live in some unknown place, forced to either eat or starve and without any form of control of even
the smallest needs. Imagine living this miserable life with no reason or explanation for why you are
the one to suffer. This example clearly explains the life of those animals that are used for testing and
experimentation. The watered down definition of animal experiments is the use of animals for
scientific research. This form of testing is used mainly for creating cures and medicine even so far as
to test for side effects of new drugs. Around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these tests a wide range of chemicals and products including drugs to cosmetics are used. These
tests cause issues that debate the ethics and humaneness of intentionally harming the animals to sell
any new product. After testing, some animals are killed for no more reason than to clear space, while
other animals are injured and live the remainder of their lives in captivity. An opinion poll was taken
by HSUS in 2001 that asked the general population about their feelings on pain and harm done to
animals during research. The results showed 62% would approve testing if animals experienced little
or no pain while 75% disapprove when severe pain is experienced. The intention of animal
experiments is not to harm the animals, but that is what it does. Evidence that shows that animals
cannot be relied on for information and research. There are also cases where products and drugs will
never be approved by the FDA and sold to the public. This is expressed significantly by those against
animal testing because of the simple fact that the animal died with no contribution to people. Another
negative to this field are the high costs just to maintain the animals and keep them alive on top of the
money used to conducts the tests. The issue with the testing and the cost is the tests can occur more
than once over the course of a month and cost money every single time. It is

A Short Note On The Battle Of Jutland

Navy
Battle Of Jutland The Battle of Jutland was between the Germans and the British, the conflict was
building up for a while, and on May 31, 1916 is when the battle began. The Battle of Jutland is one of
the biggest naval battles in history, this battle was considered to be the only major naval battle of
World War I . The battle evolved over time due to Britain s declaration that its naval force was
superior in Europe and the introduction in 1906 of the Dreadnought. The British and the Germans
wanted two different things, the British wanted to protect their world wide kingdom. The Germans
were in need of more place than the North Sea s coast and they wanted full control of the North Sea.
Both countries avoided the conflict for a long time because of fear of losing and making their country
vulnerable. A letter from King George to Jellicoe stated: At this grave moment in our national history I
send to you, and through you to the officers and men of the fleet of which you have assumed
command, the assurance of my confidence that, under your direction, they will revive and renew the
old glories of the Royal Navy and prove once again the sure shield of

The QA (or FOQA) concept is the prevention of occurrence of defects. The principle of prevention is
that it is necessary to preclude maintenance failure. This principle extends to safety of personnel,
maintenance of equipment, and virtually every aspect of the total maintenance and flight operations.
Prevention is about regulating events rather than being r regulated by them.. Flight operations quality
assurance (FOQA) is the process of collecting and analyzing data from flights to improve safety and
efficiency of flight operations. FOQA is used to reveal operational situations in which risk is increased
in order to enable early corrective action before that risk results in an incident or accident Data is
retrieved from the flight recorder and categorized. Then, the data is sent to be analyzed. The analysis
is usually done by software. After the data analysis is done, the manager will contact the appropriate
airline or pilot association and place the necessary corrections in place. Lastly, all the flight operations
will be watched to ensure safety protocols are being followed and any discrepancies being reported.
For the maintenance department, QA will readily pinpoint problems which managers can use to
improve the quality and reliability of the total maintenance, work environment, tools and equipment
use, eliminate unnecessary man hour and dollar expenditures, improve training, work habits, and

The Story of a First Forbes Billionaire from a least Developed Country: Nepal Background The news
in Forbes that the small Himalayan nation of Nepal (with the population of 30 million), among the
poorest countries in the world, has produced its first billionaire in Binod Chaudhary, chairman of the
Cinnovation/Chaudhary Group made Nepalese jubilant. In a country where businesses were failing

history. This case exemplifies how right strategies can help businesses succeed even in a nation
engulfed by political stagnation, civil war and economic problems. Winning Aspirations With the
vision of Touching Life Everyday Chaudhary Group is now a business conglomerate including forty
businesses, and its operations cover across all five continents. However, the story begins with a
humble background. Mr. Chaudhary s family started a business in Kathmandu, the capital city of
Nepal, in the year 1934 by leasing a shop at $3 per month. Starting as an importer of textiles from
India, they opened up a flour mill in the year 1974. The business boomed after the introduction of Wai

Similar Themes in Things Fall Apart and The Second Coming
The novel Things Fall Apart examines African culture before the colonial infiltration. Achebe s novel
forces us to examine the customs and traditions that make up an informal culture. At times we may
find some their practices appalling, but Achebe makes us realize that the traditions and customs are
what essentially hold the Ibo together. Achebe wrote Things Fall Apart with the intention of changing
the common view of African culture. He wrote the novel from an insider s perspective, revealing that
African culture was not solely based on barbaric and mindless rituals. Achebe reveals the affects of the
colonial infiltration on African societies. Through his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Achebe portrays the life of the Ibo tribe before the first touch of the white men. Before the colonial
infiltration the Ibo had a very cyclic view of time. Their beleifs and rituals were practiced the same rit
at the same time every year. Where as the white man s traditions and view of time were much more
linear. Right from the Ibo s first encounter with the whites, the reader can observe the cycle as being
unchangeably altered. It is the coming of thei missionaries which brings the disruption. After
thousands of years of unviolated and untouched traditions, Okonkwo returns after just seven years of
exile and finds his village turned upside down. In addition, the Ibo people fail to recognize him as a
leader. Their new religon and government and trading stores were very much in the people s eyes and
minds, the talked and though about little else.. The whites swept away the Ibo tradition and heritage.
Here, Okonkwo can be seen as the falconer as depicted in Yeats poem. He was once looked upon as a
respected leader, but now the falcon the Ibo people do not hear the falconer, Okonkwo.

Self-Medication In Wild Animals
Research indicates that wild animals utilise aspects of their natural environment to self medicate in at
least three ways. The use of rough plants as a type of intestinal scour is a prevalent technique for the
removal of internal parasites. Some animals also poison their internal parasites by ingesting toxic
plants found in their natural habitat. In addition, in order to neutralise toxins in the plants they eat,
some wild animals engage in geophageous behaviour.
A widespread method of self medication in wild animals is the use of abrasive plants to purge the
digestive system. Research conducted on two continents shows that some wild animals deliberately
consume plants whose leaves are covered with microscopic hooks which scour the intestines. ... Show

Geophagy is the consumption of soil, and in wild animals this practice has the effect of neutralising
the defensive poisons produced by plants. For instance, researchers discovered that some tropical birds
practise geophagy when they consume seeds that contain alkaloids, which are toxic. In an experiment
with seed eating macaws scientists discovered a direct link between the consumption of clay and the
reduction of alkaloids in the birds bloodstreams. Furthermore, the leaves of many tropical plants
contain high levels of toxins, and scientists have observed that herbivores in tropical regions regularly
consume clay. Elephants, for example, only cease consumption of clay during specific times of the
year when their diet changes from leaves to fruit. As a result, researchers have concluded that these
wild animals ingest clay in order to neutralise the poisons contained in the plants they

Chinese Cinderella By Adeline Yen Mah
The true story of Chinese Cinderella is an autobiography written by Adeline Yen Mah, describing the
many complications she experienced in her childhood and young teenage years. Unlike most children,
Adeline struggled to live a normal life. She was often looked down upon by most of her family and
was neglected and abused in a way that was totally unacceptable. This is significantly repeated
throughout her juvenility. An important idea that recurs throughout the story Chinese Cinderella is,
unwanted and mistreated by your family and relations.
Adeline is unloved and unwanted by most of her family, with the exception of her Aunt Baba and
Grandfather YeYe. Because of her mother s sudden death after Adeline was born her siblings gave her

used to build up the sensation of nervousness and apprehension. Adeline shares her life events in order

The Second Sex!
The Feminist Movement (also known as The Women s Liberation movement) is a social movement
organized around the belief that both men and women are equal in every way. The role of feminism in
the 20th century changed the lives of many women, opening new doors to greater opportunities such
has: jobs, education, and empowerment. Many achievements and organizations were a success in
bringing a new role into society for women all over. However, the battle that seems to keep
reappearing over time is the constant struggle between man and women and the fundamental question
that still is left unanswered, who is inferior? In her novel, The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir
discusses the role of women as being oppressed in the views of men who ... Show more content on

Beauvoir notes in her second volume, When I wrote that one is not born, but rather becomes a woman
I meant just this that women become feminine through the process of social brainwashing and
stereotyping. She states key points of womanhood that are notably unseen or foreign in man:
pregnancy, lactation, and menstruation. Thus, this type of phenomena contributes to the marked
difference in women all together. Furthermore, what society seems to overlook when they take these
types of differences are the existential importance s that each carry on. Thus, woman may fail to lay
claim to the status of subject because she lacks definite resources, because she feels the necessary
bond that ties her to man regardless of reciprocity, and because she is often very well pleased with her
role as the Other.
Women overall are raised believe that the only way to achieve happiness and gain success is through
the acceptance of denying her true identity. Women all over are being deprived of their possibilities for
fulfillment and opportunity because they are shaped based on their childhood where they learn to
accept the dissatisfying life of work around the house, nurturing and raising children, and the sexual
slavishness. While living the kind of adulthood, Beauvoir addresses the certain roles women live in a

Ideal Man Essay
« You would be so much more the man » The play Macbeth published in 1603 by Shakespeare
presents the rise and the decadence, the decline of power of King Macbeth. After killing, in order,
King Duncan, his two chamberlains, Macbeth s general Banquo, Lady Macduff and her children,
Macbeth manages to secure his power until Macduff battles with him and finally kills him. In the play,
Shakespeare indicates features that make up an ideal man. Through various character s representations
and actions the reader can to discern Shakespeare s Ideal Man. By defining his Ideal man and its
opposites, Shakespeare introduces the common theme of masculinity. Firstly, Macbeth symbolizes the
anti ideal man, in other words the anti hero, of the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a consequence a model of manliness should exemplify the ideal man Shakespeare wants to define.
For Instance, in the beginning of the play Macbeth is feminized by his wife Lady Macbeth therefore
he is not represent as the masculine character of the play. He is not thinking about honour, keeping
promises, ruthlessness and therefore bravery. We can observe this attempt of making inferior and
feminizing Macbeth by Lady Macbeth when she questions his masculinity in act 1 scene 7: When you
durst do it, then you were a men; and to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the
man. She knows that this argument is effective on Macbeth; as a result he will commit the murder. On
the other hand, Banquo is presented as the masculine character of the play. As masculinity means for
Shakespeare knowing the difference between right and wrong, obeying conscience and knowing the
moral, we can say therefore that Banquo is masculine, and hence, the ideal man of the plot. Indeed, he
is not tempted as Macbeth by the witches and by their predictions. In conclusion, throughout the play
Macbeth, Shakespeare tries and manages to give us a definition of an Ideal Man for him. Macbeth
embodies the opposition and Banquo the true masculine, ideal man: The model should be loyal,
intelligent, brave, cautious, clever, and obeying the morality. Shakespeare s definition anticipates his
era, these elements will come up later: we

Ear Riddle
The riddle stars off simple: Does a tree, if it falls, make a sound if no one is around? The answer to
this riddle is no, but this is incorrect. Before going into why this is incorrect, one needs to understand
what would take place if someone did hear a tree fall. The auditory process is a complex system of
fluid, bones, and receptors that transform sound waves into discernible auditory messages to our brain.
Taken from the Stanford s Children s Health (2017), the parts of the ear are as follows. From the
outside in, the exterior ear is the pinna and the external auditory canal 1. The eardrum separates the
outer ear from the middle ear, where the ossicles are 1. The ossicles are three small bones that are
called the malleus, incus, and stapes 1. Moving further in, the inner ear includes cochlea which
contains the nerves for hearing, the vestibule and the semicircular canals which has receptors for
balance ( Anatomy and Physiology of the Ear , 2017) 1. How does this process actually all work? To
summarize this process: sound waves enter the external auditory canal and travels down to the middle
ear, where the vibrations strike the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sound waves with low amplitude can only be heard so far away. With that said, the riddle s answer if
false. Just because we can not hear sound waves does not mean that a falling tree is mute of sound.
Through the use of physics, one can understand that energy process of a falling tree. The conservation
of energy tells us that energy cannot be destroyed nor created; therefore, energy transfers into friction,
heat, velocity of the tree, and sound. To conclude, our auditory process is amazing. Transforming
sound vibrations into auditory input is absolutely mind boggling. To be technical, no, a tree falling
does not create audible sound when we are out of range, but to say that it doesn t create any sound is a

RESISTANCE TO THE BROKEN PROMISES OF
THE TREATY OF GUADALUPE HIDALGO
Katie Menante Anderson
INTRODUCTION
Human beings, no matter what race or ethnicity or place or time, will not tolerate injustice forever.
Webster s defines injustice as a violation of the right or of the rights of another (Merriam Webster,
1990). The history of the United States is filled with such violations. From the early challenges to
religious freedom in Massachusetts to the broken treaties and systematic removal of Native Americans
from their land to the abominable practice of slavery in the United States, our nation s reality rarely
measures up to the principles and ideals penned by the founding fathers in the Declaration of

Were these individuals villains or heroes, bandits or patriots, terrorists challenging the authority of the
US Government or freedom fighters defending their own land, culture and ethnicity?
SOCIAL BANDITRY One of the earliest forms of resistance against the American occupation of the
Greater Southwest was social banditry. As individuals realized through personal experiences that the
promises in the treaty were not being upheld they resisted through banditry. Acuna describes social
bandits as individuals who rebel against an injustice and through that rebellion gain the popular
support of their race. They are not necessarily social revolutionaries with goals of transforming
society. These individuals have just had enough (71). Citing the work of British social historian Eric
Hobsbawn, Gilberto Lopez y Rivas explains that social banditry is one of the most primitive forms of
organized social protest and [that it is] a phenomenon almost universally [identified] with rural
conditions where the oppressed has neither developed a political awareness nor acquired more
effective means of social agitation (Lopez y Rivas, 1979, 100). Mexicans living in Texas and the
Greater Southwest after the Mexican American War fit into this description of a rural environment.
Moreover, any access they had to US courts and politics was undermined by

Analysis of Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days
Thesis: Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days is a quintessentially postmodern novel because of its
cynical tone, its confluence of imagery, and its treatment of social and existential alienation.
I. When the protagonist first arrives in West Virginia, his sense of alienation and isolation become
poignant: setting the stage for what is becoming a postmodern novel. His experience checking into the
hotel as a journalist offers telling evidence of the theme of alienation: The desk man at the hotel gave
him a press packet when he registered, checking his name off a list, but J. hasn t bothered to look at it
so he doesn t know what time dinner is, (p. 693). The imagery that Whitehead uses solidifies the core
theme of social alienation. Here, the protagonist s name is disembodied. His name is on the list,
legitimizing his status in the society. On the list, he belongs to a group a professional organization. He
is accountable to his profession, and yet, the protagonist does not feel a genuine sense of belonging.
This trend continues throughout John Henry Days, and is one of the things that characterizes the novel
as being postmodern. John Henry Days addresses a protagonist who seems completely emotionally
detached from his surroundings; and yet his journalistic attitude makes it so that he has keen
intellectual insight into what is going on regarding the symbolic meanings of the John Henry
symbolism.
Journalism also happens to be a postmodern profession in the eyes of the

How Does Smith Use Satire In A Modest Proposal
Jonathan Smith s A Modest Proposal uses certain literary strategies throughout his essay to portray his
opinions on the condition of the Irish Catholics. At first glance, his arguments and use of language
may seem quite ridiculous and even horrifying. However, his true intention does not seem to be to
convey a straightforward opinion. Instead, Smith employs a more ironic and satirical tone throughout
his writing in order to portray . Jonathan Smith expresses his thoughts in his writing with satirical
technique through his discussions containing exaggerated descriptions, economic reasoning, and
parodies of political messages. Smith s proposal is so distasteful that it would seem offensive;
especially during the time period in which it was written. However, this was done in order to show
how ridiculous and offensive the rich English Protestants seem with their abuses on Irish Catholics.
One such example of the mockery he uses is when he suggests that, this food will be somewhat dear,
and therefore very proper for the landlords, who as they have already devoured most of the parents,
seem to have the best title to the children, (Smith). Smith seems to be fully aware of how offensive he
sounds and wants to have his offensive plan associated with the rich in order to convey that the nature
of the rich is just as distasteful as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the more brutal consequences of using infants for food consumption and only focusing on the benefits

The Time Period Of The Cold War
The time period of the Cold War was a breeding ground for ideological change. It was an era filled
with fear and paranoia, not simply of the unknown, but of neighbours, friends, and family. World War
II, the atomic bomb, the Cold War, made it hard for Americans to continue their optimism historian
Stephen Ambrose commented. This paradigm shift is evident in the texts from the era, and by studying
them we come to understand the values and atmosphere of the time and the effect those values had on
the texts. The Cold War began after the end of World War II, after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima
and Nagasaki by the United States of America; that continued until the early 90s with the dissolving of
the Soviet Union. The two sides of the Cold War were the Western Bloc and Eastern Bloc, which are
terms given to the alliances formed by the USA and NATO; and the USSR and the Warsaw Pact
respectively. Named for its lack of major conflict or bloodshed between its two super powers, the USA
and USSR, despite the wars that occurred that those super powers supported, the Korean War and the
Vietnam War. After the bombing and subsequent end of WW II, the world was reeling from the
unprecedented destruction it caused as well as the implications and effects it would have on not only
war but society itself. During this time both a nuclear arms race and the space race occurred.

In 1606, The Scottish Play, also know as Macbeth, was performed in the theatres of England. Macbeth

character) is told his fate by three witches. The information that is told to him was misleading. The
play presents a series of experiences in which the main character makes decisions that ultimately lead
to his death. Continually, throughout the play one will see Macbeth make decisions he regrets,

himself king in a timely matter (1.5.18 22). As a result of Lady Macbeth wanting her husband to
become king, she strategized a plan to kill the king. She informed her husband of the plan and told
him he would murder King Duncan. Macbeth did not want to kill the king and he stated reasons why
the king deserved to live. Macbeth said the king was loved by everyone and has never done his people
wrong. Despite knowing that information, he still allowed his wife to talk him into killing an innocent
man. Macbeth had the will to say no and stand his ground. After all, Macbeth was honored by the king
for his loyalty and bravery. In 1.2.64 65, King Duncan named Macbeth the Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth
even experienced a time where he had second thoughts(1.7.1 28). That means he knew right from
wrong. Unfortunately, Macbeth allowed others to influence

In 1994, the APVA s (Association for the preservation Virginia) goal was to find the earliest secured
town that was discovered by Virginia Company of London back in 1607. A team of archaeologists are
still at the site uncovering more and more artifacts from the cellar that was noted to be filled with trash
in 1610 because of a big cleanup that was ordered by the new governor Lord De La Warre at the time.
So far in the excavation they have found pieces of broken pottery, broken dishes, food remains, arrow
heads made of a local stone, tobacco, and pipes for the tobacco, coins, and buttons. They have also
found fishhooks, weapons, armor, equipment for glass making, woodworking, and also the bones of
fish and some livestock. At first, it was thought that the people were struggling to survive because of
their sour relationship with the Indians. The findings just tells us that they were able to live well by

Meat Is The Staple Of The American Diet
Meat has become a staple in the American diet. According to an article published by
NPR, an average American was eating 207.7 pounds of meat per year in 2010 (Barclay). After
research came to light linking cholesterol and saturated fat found in meat products to heart disease,
new food and health guidelines have suggested lowering the amount of meat eaten in the average diet.
The new USDA food guidelines, MyPlate, were formed in 2010 and propose eating 5 ½ oz. of protein
foods a day for a basic 2,000 calorie diet. In their description of what type of protein foods to eat, they
promote more fish consumption, varying protein sources to include plant based proteins, and keeping
meat and poultry portions small and lean. While this is an improvement from past food guidelines, it is
not enough. The USDA is continuing to do
Americans a disservice by promoting meat consumption in general because it leads to serious health
problems, cruelty to animals, and environmental degradation.
One of the largest, most studied, and tangible arguments against eating meat is the negative health
effects it has on the human body. Its consumption has been linked to obesity, cancer, and many organ
disorders. According to a study published in the International Journal of
Obesity, there is a positive association between meat consumption and obesity (Wang and
Beydoun 621). The same study found that eating meat has been related to higher risks of many
chronic diseases, but increasing the consumption of

O Pioneers ! By Willa Cather
An American Woman In the story O Pioneers! by Willa Cather presents a young intelligent woman
who had an American dream. Alexandra Bergson is a perfect model of emotional strength, strong will
and courage. She not only motivated herself but she always had a drive to encourage others to never
give up on their dream. Building up the land, having more patience and passion than men, and self
sacrifice were some conditions Alexandra Bergson faced as a young woman. Overall, all of the
obstacles she overcame granted her to live an American Dream she had planned to live all her life.
Alexandra first obstacle that she faced was at a very young age. A difficulty that most young teenage
girls never will face. Alexandra provides the ideal example of self sacrifice. She gives up most of her
teenage life and numerous chances for happiness because she has a vision of the future that requires
hard work and continued dedication. However, Alexandra s vision consists of hope, love and dreams
for others rather than hope, love and dreams for herself. After Alexandra s father died, he left her the
responsibility to take over the land and all of what he worked hard for. Instead of her father giving her
brothers the responsibility over the land, without any doubt he gave it to Alexandra because she had

City Of Ember Book Vs Movie Essay
Humanity s Back Up City What if humanity did not have the sun, the moon, and a steady supply of
electricity? In The City of Ember, Jeanne DuPrau writes about a city that lives underground, only they
don t know that they live underground. The citizens of Ember have never heard of the sun, the moon,
stars, plants, or animals. But if they don t have the sun or moon, how do they see anything? Ember has
an ancient generator in tunnels running under the city the Pipeworks. This generator supplies
electricity to all of the light bulbs that give light to Ember. Ember has a large stock of food and light
bulbs to last them awhile 220 years to be exact. After 220 years they would all escape because the

Well, the differences between the book and movie range from small, nitpicky details to important
aspects of the book. For one, on assignment day everyone who got a job was supposed to be twelve,
but in the movie Doon was seventeen and there were little five year olds running around with jobs.
Also another age related fault in the movie was when they made Looper look like he was forty, not
fifteen, and dating Lizzie. Besides age, the movie also cut out important scenes to show just how
severe the power outages and supply scarcities were, such as the part when Lina was buying color
pencils and Poppy got lost during a blackout. The movie also made Ember look like it had more
futuristic things than it should have had. In movie Ember, Pipeworks laborers had hats with lights on
them that could connect to electricity, but no movable light source was found in the books. Instead of
having a complicated lock on the box with the instructions, the box looked computerized. As a
replacement for a supply room, the movie had conveniently lockers that could transform into boats. It
had bugs and parasites, such as the octo rat thing, hiding around corners that could not be found in the
book. With all those differences, it only makes sense the book fans are

Why I Become A Naturopathic Physician
I want to become a Naturopathic Physician because I wish to help people choose how to be healthy.
Growing up, I dealt with several health problems, one of which I was able to manage with ibuprofen,
but I desired a solution instead of a temporary fix. As a result, I sought the help of my conventional
physician. Instead of working to discover the root of the problem, she simply prescribed a stronger
pain reliever. I then turned to a Naturopathic Physician, because many of my friends were suggesting
that I look into that profession. Thankfully, my Naturopathic Physician and I discovered that daily
supplements would control my major health problem, and we found solutions to my more trivial
problems. The experience taught me that when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From a young age, I wanted to be a conventional physician, but as I grew older, I became more
disillusioned with our current medical system. As I became more disillusioned, I was more drawn to
the naturopathic field and the opportunities it presented to treat problems naturally. In addition, I felt
that the naturopathic field offered more personalized care to the patient as they struggled with their
different health problems. The way that conventional medicine practices tries to treat as many patients
as possible in the shortest amount of time. The field seems not to respect the patient as a person, and I
feel like every person should experience a favorable level of respect when interacting with medical
professionals. In addition, I feel that patients should know that their doctor cares for them and their
health, and that is difficult to convey in a 15 minute appointment, especially when compared with a 45
minute appointment. As a Naturopathic Physician, I feel that I will be able to provide my patients with
the care that they deserve.
The Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine Program at National vigorously prepares students for life as

students is through its integrated classrooms. This integration of students from different programs in
the same course allows the students to interact and make connections with other students. Creating

Why I Own Google Inc. Stocks
It s all about technology stocks these days and Google is considered a long term buy. In July for
example, Google gave its investors a 20% increment beating financial analysts expectations in its
quarterly earnings report bringing it to up to a whopping 32% year to date. The stock also recorded
earnings per share of $6.99, beating Wall Street estimates of $6.70.
In considering the Google stock, I looked at its quality, growth potential, valuation and strong
financial performance. (Sanders, 2015)
1. Quality: Andreas Cardenal wrote in a July 2015 article, Why I Own Google Inc. Stocks that The

The online advertising industry made an estimated $49.45 billion in revenue in 2014 and this number
is projected to grow jump to $83.89 billion by 2019. Also, spending on Digital advertisements has
been estimated to rise from $145 billion in 2014 to $253 billion by 2018. Even with competition from
other small companies, Google is most likely to continue as one of the main players in this thriving
online advertising industry in the years ahead. (Cardenal, 2014)
3. Valuation: A high stock price can make even the best companies bad investments but in the case of
Google, this is hardly the case. In an October 2015 article, Jack Delaney wrote about Google s 16%
second quarter earnings which added about $70 billion dollars to shareholder value which is a record
on Wall Street and one that had been forecasted for 2016. (Delaney, 2015)
This has helped the company in its leadership status especially in the online advertising industry. It has
also been able to show its profitable business model and growth potential. (Cardenal)
4. Strong Financial Performance: Google continues to show consistently strong financial performance.
It reported a $66,001 million revenue which grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of
17.6% between 2010 and 2014 and an annual growth of 18.9% in 2013. This was attributed to the
increase in advertising revenues from its various websites and other revenues. Its net income grew

Hunger Vs Hunger
Indeed, being homeless is dire, but hunger can kill. In the United States, hunger is not as serious as
other countries. Starvation in America is not major, if it exists. An article explains hunger in the
United States, Today more than ever, many people receive food assistance. For most, the need is brief
and serves as a helping hand between jobs or in times of disaster or dire circumstances. For others, the
need is ongoing ( What ). Although hungry people subsist, help for them is available. This article also
explains what hunger typically looks like in America, Being anxious for a meal to be served, rushing
food lines, eating all their food at mealtimes, extreme hunger on Monday mornings, extreme thinness
or puffy, swollen skin, excess absences, hyperactive, irritable, anxious, withdrawn, distressed, . . .
sickness, . . . and lack of food resources ( What ). Starvation and hunger have two different meanings.
Hungry people don t get enough to eat, but starving people are burning more energy than they take in.
Starving people have little to no food all of the time, and are slowly wasting away. Few people, if any,
are starving in America. Malnutrition is a result of being hungry. Malnutrition means someone is not
getting enough proper nutrition. As of 2017, 190.7 million people, or 14.5 percent of the population in
India are malnourished. Undernourishment in children has serious effects. In 2017, 38.4 percent of
India s children population under age five are stunted. On

Happy Ending by Margaret Atwood is a truly unique story. This story is unique not because of the
dialog, but because of the multiple endings that are within the story. The story follows the life of John

whether or not John and Mary have a happy life together or a complicated life together. However, no

It is true that both John and Mary fall in love and enter symbiotic relationship. However, just because
the reader gets a cookie cutter happy ending that doesn t necessarily mean that it is the best ending.
For instance, story A, the happy ending, is very short compared to the other stories. It dose not give
the reader enough time to form a connection to the characters before they die. While on the other
hand, story B, the sadder ending, is much longer and gives the reader a connection to the character
Mary.
Story B is the sadder ending and focuses more on Mary. The relationship between Mary and John is
far from happy. Mary does absolutely everything for John. Mary cooks, cleans, and even lets john
have his way with her. John doesn t even acknowledge all the sacrifice that Mary puts into their
relationship. Not only dose John show no affection towards Mary, He gives it all his affection to
another woman he sees behind Mary s back. The drama of the whole situation is too much to bear for
Mary. Mary devises a plan to overdose on all of her household medicine and have John take her to the
hospital. Sadly John doesn t even care enough to take her to the hospital. Margaret Atwood did a
fantastic job on making a fiction story with fiction characters seem like an actual

knowledge and readiness. After reading the articles, An Educated Person by Eamon Burdick, What
Does it Mean to Be an Educated Person Today by Marc Tucker, and excerpts from the book
Philosophical, Ideological, and Theoretical Perspectives on Education by Gerald Gutek the
characteristics of an educated person were compared, contrasted, and condensed to focus on the two

can education happen outside of a school setting? Yes, education can happen outside of a school, if the
last part of the definition is left off it does not take away from the idea that education is the action or
process of teaching. What are we using to educate students? Most schools use some guidelines such as
frameworks, curriculums, hopefully to help students gain a well balanced exposure to many subjects
and areas, to help students become educated people. This leads into the question when thinking about
education is who is qualified to facilitate the teaching? It would make sense that an educated person
should be the one to impart knowledge to others, because they are educated. However, what makes an
educated person? Does knowledge make someone automatically an educated person or are there other
traits necessary to gain this distinction? This essay will look at the following characteristics of an

In 1962, General William Westmoreland, as part of the battle plan for Vietnam known as MACV,

between North and South Vietnam. The bases were intended to serve as a barrier to the infiltration of
North Vietnamese troops into South Vietnam. The Village of Khe Sanh was converted into one of
these bases in 1962. Khe Sanh was initially a U.S. Special Forces outpost of the Civilian Irregular

In the spring of 1967, the North Vietnamese army, also known as PAVN, changed tactics. They
decided to attempt to open up a new battlefield along the South Vietnamese border in order to lure
U.S. forces into an environment favorable to the North Vietnamese. They planned to use guerilla
tactics to ambush the American troops and inflict heavy losses. In accordance with this strategy the
PAVN sent a reinforced regiment to the Khe Sanh area. The regiment consisted of the 95C Regiment,
325 Division, plus a battalion from the division s 18C Regiment. (Willbanks 116) The first encounter
between the PAVN regiment and U.S. forces occurred in April of 1967. A U.S. marine patrol was
ambushed on one of the hills surrounding Khe Sanh. When a rescue patrol was dispatched to retrieve
the ambushed marines, they suffered heavy losses due to their M16 rifles jamming en masse. When
news of this accident was relayed to Congress it sparked a wave of congressional hearings and army
modifications to improve the reliability of the M16. Between the end of April and beginning of May,
there were several more skirmishes that the U.S. Marines initiated on the hills occupied by the PAVN.
These skirmishes became known as the Hill Fights. The Hill Fights mostly consisted of hand to hand
fighting that resulted in the destruction of an entire PAVN regiment and a massive artillery
emplacement. The victories did not come without a cost. The battles ended with 160 marine casualties

Specifically, I will be discussing a scene at the beginning of the film when the coked out businessman

Wall Street during a lunch meeting. The mise en scene of The Wolf of Wall Street was designed and
determined during pre production and it was carefully planned because this specific scene when

The location of the lunch meeting is perfect because it indicates the wealth and vibes that is being
taken place when the two met. A key component to realize is the subjects; the acting style of
McConaughey demonstrated great performance in terms of his physical movement throughout the
scene and the hand movements when he was talking makes the audience feel a part of the moment.
Additionally, both actors during the scene performed so well to the point that it provided information
to the viewers like myself that it is a significant scene of the movie and we will later see how that
meeting changed his life. To point out, the costuming of both Belford and Hanna in their two piece
suits symbolizes power and wealth, which is the whole point of the movie itself. Notably, the
composition of the arrangement of settings, lighting, and subjects of the scene is important, almost to
the point where an average individual would feel intimidated by the scenery. The frames are always

  • 2. Animal Testing History Have you ever pondered the idea of living your life without the ability to control even the most basic things? Being put into a small, dark, cold cage without having the chance to break free. Being forced to live in some unknown place, forced to either eat or starve and without any form of control of even the smallest needs. Imagine living this miserable life with no reason or explanation for why you are the one to suffer. This example clearly explains the life of those animals that are used for testing and experimentation. The watered down definition of animal experiments is the use of animals for scientific research. This form of testing is used mainly for creating cures and medicine even so far as to test for side effects of new drugs. Around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In these tests a wide range of chemicals and products including drugs to cosmetics are used. These tests cause issues that debate the ethics and humaneness of intentionally harming the animals to sell any new product. After testing, some animals are killed for no more reason than to clear space, while other animals are injured and live the remainder of their lives in captivity. An opinion poll was taken by HSUS in 2001 that asked the general population about their feelings on pain and harm done to animals during research. The results showed 62% would approve testing if animals experienced little or no pain while 75% disapprove when severe pain is experienced. The intention of animal experiments is not to harm the animals, but that is what it does. Evidence that shows that animals cannot be relied on for information and research. There are also cases where products and drugs will never be approved by the FDA and sold to the public. This is expressed significantly by those against animal testing because of the simple fact that the animal died with no contribution to people. Another negative to this field are the high costs just to maintain the animals and keep them alive on top of the money used to conducts the tests. The issue with the testing and the cost is the tests can occur more than once over the course of a month and cost money every single time. It is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nelson 11 January, 2016 Navy Battle Of Jutland The Battle of Jutland was between the Germans and the British, the conflict was building up for a while, and on May 31, 1916 is when the battle began. The Battle of Jutland is one of the biggest naval battles in history, this battle was considered to be the only major naval battle of World War I . The battle evolved over time due to Britain s declaration that its naval force was superior in Europe and the introduction in 1906 of the Dreadnought. The British and the Germans wanted two different things, the British wanted to protect their world wide kingdom. The Germans were in need of more place than the North Sea s coast and they wanted full control of the North Sea. Both countries avoided the conflict for a long time because of fear of losing and making their country vulnerable. A letter from King George to Jellicoe stated: At this grave moment in our national history I send to you, and through you to the officers and men of the fleet of which you have assumed command, the assurance of my confidence that, under your direction, they will revive and renew the old glories of the Royal Navy and prove once again the sure shield of ... The QA (or FOQA) concept is the prevention of occurrence of defects. The principle of prevention is that it is necessary to preclude maintenance failure. This principle extends to safety of personnel, maintenance of equipment, and virtually every aspect of the total maintenance and flight operations. Prevention is about regulating events rather than being r regulated by them.. Flight operations quality assurance (FOQA) is the process of collecting and analyzing data from flights to improve safety and efficiency of flight operations. FOQA is used to reveal operational situations in which risk is increased in order to enable early corrective action before that risk results in an incident or accident Data is retrieved from the flight recorder and categorized. Then, the data is sent to be analyzed. The analysis is usually done by software. After the data analysis is done, the manager will contact the appropriate airline or pilot association and place the necessary corrections in place. Lastly, all the flight operations will be watched to ensure safety protocols are being followed and any discrepancies being reported. For the maintenance department, QA will readily pinpoint problems which managers can use to improve the quality and reliability of the total maintenance, work environment, tools and equipment use, eliminate unnecessary man hour and dollar expenditures, improve training, work habits, and ... Achebe s novel forces us to examine the customs and traditions that make up an informal culture. The use of rough plants as a type of intestinal scour is a prevalent technique for the removal of internal parasites. Some animals also poison their internal parasites by ingesting toxic plants found in their natural habitat. In addition, in order to neutralise toxins in the plants they eat, some wild animals engage in geophageous behaviour. Many achievements and organizations were a success in bringing a new role into society for women all over. She states key points of womanhood that are notably unseen or foreign in man: pregnancy, lactation, and menstruation. Thus, this type of phenomena contributes to the marked difference in women all together. Furthermore, what society seems to overlook when they take these types of differences are the existential importance s that each carry on. Thus, woman may fail to lay claim to the status of subject because she lacks definite resources, because she feels the necessary bond that ties her to man regardless of reciprocity, and because she is often very well pleased with her role as the Other. For Instance, in the beginning of the play Macbeth is feminized by his wife Lady Macbeth therefore he is not represent as the masculine character of the play. We can observe this attempt of making inferior and feminizing Macbeth by Lady Macbeth when she questions his masculinity in act 1 scene 7: When you durst do it, then you were a men; and to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man. She knows that this argument is effective on Macbeth; as a result he will commit the murder. On the other hand, Banquo is presented as the masculine character of the play. As masculinity means for Shakespeare knowing the difference between right and wrong, obeying conscience and knowing the moral, we can say therefore that Banquo is masculine, and hence, the ideal man of the plot. Indeed, he is not tempted as Macbeth by the witches and by their predictions. In conclusion, throughout the play Macbeth, Shakespeare tries and manages to give us a definition of an Ideal Man for him. Before going into why this is incorrect, one needs to understand what would take place if someone did hear a tree fall. The auditory process is a complex system of fluid, bones, and receptors that transform sound waves into discernible auditory messages to our brain. Taken from the Stanford s Children s Health (2017), the parts of the ear are as follows. From the outside in, the exterior ear is the pinna and the external auditory canal 1. The eardrum separates the outer ear from the middle ear, where the ossicles are 1. The ossicles are three small bones that are called the malleus, incus, and stapes 1. Moving further in, the inner ear includes cochlea which contains the nerves for hearing, the vestibule and the semicircular canals which has receptors for balance ( Anatomy and Physiology of the Ear , 2017) 1. Were these individuals villains or heroes, bandits or patriots, terrorists challenging the authority of the US Government or freedom fighters defending their own land, culture and ethnicity? SOCIAL BANDITRY One of the earliest forms of resistance against the American occupation of the Greater Southwest was social banditry. As individuals realized through personal experiences that the promises in the treaty were not being upheld they resisted through banditry. Acuna describes social bandits as individuals who rebel against an injustice and through that rebellion gain the popular support of their race. They are not necessarily social revolutionaries with goals of transforming society. These individuals have just had enough (71). Citing the work of British social historian Eric Hobsbawn, Gilberto Lopez y Rivas explains that social banditry is one of the most primitive forms of organized social protest and [that it is] a phenomenon almost universally [identified] with rural conditions where the oppressed has neither developed a political awareness nor acquired more effective means of social agitation (Lopez y Rivas, 1979, 100). • 14. Analysis of Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days Thesis: Colson Whitehead s John Henry Days is a quintessentially postmodern novel because of its cynical tone, its confluence of imagery, and its treatment of social and existential alienation. I. When the protagonist first arrives in West Virginia, his sense of alienation and isolation become poignant: setting the stage for what is becoming a postmodern novel. His experience checking into the hotel as a journalist offers telling evidence of the theme of alienation: The desk man at the hotel gave him a press packet when he registered, checking his name off a list, but J. hasn t bothered to look at it so he doesn t know what time dinner is, (p. 693). The imagery that Whitehead uses solidifies the core theme of social alienation. Here, the protagonist s name is disembodied. His name is on the list, legitimizing his status in the society. On the list, he belongs to a group a professional organization. He is accountable to his profession, and yet, the protagonist does not feel a genuine sense of belonging. This trend continues throughout John Henry Days, and is one of the things that characterizes the novel as being postmodern. John Henry Days addresses a protagonist who seems completely emotionally detached from his surroundings; and yet his journalistic attitude makes it so that he has keen intellectual insight into what is going on regarding the symbolic meanings of the John Henry symbolism.
