Theory- Audience
Abbey Shaw
Audience Profile
• Primary Audience
The primary audience is children (0-14) because there’s lots
of bright colours and different animals that engage children
and can be educational learning about different animals and
the sounds that animals make.
• Secondary Audience
Parents (25-44.) parents could be either taking their children
to see the film, watching the film with them, looking out for
the film because their children have asked for it or they are
watching it for their selves. Many adults enjoy watching
Disney films because it reminds them of their child hood
and because they like Walt Disney.
Audience Profile
• Primary Audience
Adults (25-44) and middle aged people (45-64)
these range of ages will be more likely to watch this
film because the film is quite graphic, has bad
language and its quite an old film.
• Secondary Audience
Teenagers (15-24) because it’s a nice, amusing film
that’s good to watch with friends. Id say this film is
more directed to females and is classed as a chick
flick.
Audience Profile
• Primary Audience
Adults (25-44) and teenagers (15-24) because
the adrenalin from being scared interests
some young people, and enjoy watching
horror films in groups with friends.
• Secondary Audience
Middle aged people (45-64) some older
people enjoy watching new films because the
horror films they used to watch might not
have had as much detail in picture or sounds
to they prefer newer horror films.
Hypodermic Needle
• Definition
Where an audience immediately believes and
accepts what it is told by the media.
• Example
For example lads bible might make a fake news
report that says zombies are coming to invade,
the audience may believe this.
Uses and Gratifications Information
• Finding information/ news- id look on snap
chat stories or google topics.
• Seeking advice or helping with decision
making- ask questions on google or ask friends
and relatives.
• Satisfy curiosity- google it.
• To learn- do research, look at YouTube videos.
Uses and Gratifications Personal
Identity
• Reinforcing personal values- we interact with
media to out own beliefs. For example we will go
onto a news report from an attack and agree with
the report because we know what's right and
what's wrong.
• Developing behavioural traits- people can be
influenced by a character on a show they watch.
For example if someone watches a lot of
American shows their vocabulary can change.
Uses and Gratifications Integration and
Social Interaction
• Identifying with others- people socialise with others through social
media. For example someone could message their friend on
snapchat or Facebook to meet up.
• Belonging- people use social media to feel like they are belonging in
our generation. If someone didn’t have Facebook or snapchat they
might feel left out in their group or feel like they are not normal.
• Topic for social interaction- people use social media to create
something to talk about. For example people talk about videos on
Facebook or photos on instagram.
• A substitute for real-world companionship- people talk more on
social media that face to face and actually interacting with others.
People use online dating and chat rooms to meet new people
instead of meeting peoople in person
Uses and Gratifications Entertainment
• Escapism- people use music or watch films to escape
from everyday life and go into their own zone. People
don’t go out for walks or go to a certain place to
escape anymore. Its all through media.
• Relaxation- people use media to relax. People use
movie sites such as Netflix to relax and watch a film or
watch videos on Youtube.
• Enjoyment- people use social media for enjoyment. For
example use filters on snapchat to amuse yourself and
others, watch videos on Facebook or Youtube.
Consumer Generated Content
• Example
Users put up videos on their page on Youtube to make money.
• What are the advantages to media producers?
Media producers can make money by talking about their hobbies that
amuse people. They are also making money off something they enjoy.
• Why would the audience generate content?
The audience generate content because they enjoy the videos. The
videos make them happy, laugh, smile and they can maybe relate to
the topics the Youtubers are talking about.

Id say this film is more directed to females and is classed as a chick flick.
