The Parliamentary Debate On The Munich Agreement Essay
The Parliamentary Debate on the Munich Agreement World War II is among the most significant wars
in American history. Although the U.S. didn t join the war efforts directly until after the bombing of
Pearl Harbor, the impact the war had on the U.S. was great. Among other causes, the Munich
Agreement was one of many things that came into in existence paving the way for WWII to begin. As
addressed in the Parliamentary Debate on the Munich Agreement, many in the British Parliament
(Winston Churchill, Neville Chamberlain, etc.) discussed the course of action that should be taken
regarding Germany and Hitler. Many, including Neville Chamberlain signed this agreement in hopes
of maintaining peace, others, like Winston Churchill believed that holding for peace would ultimately
lead to their downfall. The Munich Agreement was a pact that allowed Germany to annex many parts
of Czechoslovakia also known as Sudetenland; Sudetenland was along Germany s borders and this is
where many of the citizens were native in the language but of different races. These plans on
Sudetenland, if acted on would inevitably cause another world war, ...it became known in May 1938
that Hitler and his generals were drawing up a plan for the occupation of Czechoslovakia. (Munich
Agreement). France and Great Britain were allies with Czechoslovakia at this time; Czechoslovakia
was also involved in a treaty with the Soviet Union declaring the readiness of the Russian military to
assist France and Great Britain

Themes Of Power, Deceit, Racial Discrimination, Fate, And...
The Man in the High Castle tells the story of a parallel world, one in which the Japanese and the
Germans won the war, and the world now operates in their favor. The story line revolves around a
book that is written by a man who only writes what the Ching says to. One book in particular is
forbidden to many, and it is because the contents tell the story of what really happened , how we got to
the world we live in today. Philip K Dick wraps this intriguing story around themes of power, deceit,
racial discrimination, fate, and gender norms of the 1950 s and 60 s. The tone for power was set very
early in the novel. A substitute, then. Your recommendation, Mr. Childan? Tagomi deliberately
mispronounced the name; insult within the code that made Childan s ears burn. Place pulled, the
dreadful mortification of their situation. Robert Childan s aspirations and fears and torments rose up
and exposed themselves, swamped him, stopping his tongue. He stammered, his hand sticky on the
phone (Dick, 2). This example occurs in the first chapter. You could believe that this is a simple error
on Mr. Tagomi s part, or you could view it from the aspect of blatant, yet sidle, disrespect masked in
the disguise of an honest mistake. Mr. Tagomi knew this would get underneath Mr. Childan s skin
based upon his standards for respect and public manners. From the very beginning Mr. Tagomi played
into the struggle for power expressed throughout The Man in the High Castle . The story is

Interview Panel On The Middle School Basketball Coaches Essay
Activity Description and Summary For this activity I was responsible for being part of our interview
panel to hire our middle school basketball coaches. We hired four coaches to help mentor our fifth,
sixth, seventh, and eighth grade boys basketball teams. I was part of a three person interview panel
that featured our principal, athletic director, and me. This interview process was the first time I ve
been a part of hiring someone to feel a need at the school. The topic we interviewed is something I
was comfortable with because I have coached basketball the past six years. I felt like I could find us
the right fit and discussed the opportunity to be a part of the hiring process because of the need of this
internship activity. It s hard to find an interview process during the year for teachers, but I believe
coaching is a great substitute for teaching because it is an extension of the classroom. Learning how to
play a sport and how you conduct yourself on the court can help you later in life. I wanted to find a
candidate that could be a role model for the students and help teach them life lessons through the
game of basketball. We all agreed we are looking for someone who will stress that basketball doesn t
come above our education and our families. Our school has struggled with student achievement and I
think sports can help motivate students to do better in the classroom. The class that best aligns with
the hiring process is EL 5623. This class helped us learn

Everything is not black and white when it comes to proving...
Everything is not black and white when it comes to proving that one is guilty or innocent based on a
neurological basis alone when we have to look at morals, and whether or not one s brain abnormality
deems them not responsible for any actions or crimes they may or may not commit. According to
Lambert and Kinsley, it is difficult to distinguish a specific cause for a certain behavior (specifically
criminal behavior in this case). Despite these difficulties, all hope should not be lost, because areas of
the brain (i.e. the frontal cortex, prefrontal cortex, orbital frontal cortex, amygdala, etc.) have been
helpful in many cases considering the use of modern brain imaging technology, and studies containing
scientific methodology. It must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was also seen that vicious criminals have could most likely be victims of child abuse and brain
injury. (p.458)
According to Gazzoniga( 2008), many debate whether or not human beings should be responsible for
what they do. The mind is so complex, and being that the brain is being studied so in hopes of
identifying how people think and perceive has opened many doors for law officials looking for new
ways to figure out the truth. In fact, Pardo (2006) believes that the skills to lie and deceive were
developed biologically and linguistically; he continued to say that being able to detect lies is
extremely beneficial to the legal system, because it would aide in finding solutions for disputes in a
way that is reliable while trapping liars (people whose stories are inconsistent, contradicting,
eventually leading the suspect to confess). A major issue however, is ethics in terms of the type of
questions asked when using as neuroscience based lie detector test. Would the lie detector tests help
the defendant or work against them?
Lambert and Kinsley (2011) explain that polygraph tests today measure electrodermal activity (skin
response), blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate. In the past there were many unethical ways of
trying to detect the truth that were extremely irrational such as seeing if the witched in New England
would sink or not; I assume that if they did not sink they were not the truth. Issues with the lie

Culturally Competent Health Care
Stage 4 focuses on the rationale for providing culturally competent health care to refugee s. Cultural
competence relates to a set of behaviours or attitudes that enable the health care system to provide a
high quality of equitable care to all groups within society (Germov, 2014). Based on the United
Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) a refugee is defined as someone who owing to a
well founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a
particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to, or
owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country. (UNHCR, 2004)

Watson noted a gap in staff knowledge of interpretation services as well as the availability of services
in rural Victoria. I would like to see further the structure of interpreter services and examine whether a
gap exists in Queensland rural areas. As mentioned previously, understanding the available services
and health care structure within Australia can be difficult for a refugee. Davidson, N., et al. (2004)
discussed the difficulties refugees face finding a regular health care provider due to the structure of
visa category entitlements provided by the government. This is also compounded by a fundamental
distrust of government services within some refugee cultures. Furthermore Correa Velez, I., et. al

Types Of Methods Used By Occupational Therapy For Treat...
There are four different types of methods to be used by an occupational therapy to treat their clients
with motor control problems to enable clients functional movement, and independence. These
methods are Rood, Brunnstrom, Neurodevelopmental(NDT) also known as Bobath s, and
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF). These four methods have similarities according to
their different perspectives on how clients are going to be treated with abnormal tones. These four
methods are very helpful for OTs/OTAs to treat their clients. Examples of these dysfunctions are
abnormal muscle tones such as; rigidity antagonist and agonist are both working together, spasticity
hypertonic; and flaccidity Hypotonic, as well as different abnormal reactions of the client such as;
inability to do righting reactions, equilibrium reactions; and protective extension reactions. There are
also two types of abnormal reflexes that the client might manifest if they have a CNS dysfunction and
those are Asymmetrical Tonic Reflexes for an Infant, and Deep Tendon Reflex for an adult.
Incoordination of Dorsal Column, Basal Ganglia, and Cerebellar are also examples of CNS
Dysfunctions that the client might have. Using these 4 approaches, such as rood s, brunnstrom s,
bobath s and pnf, will help reduce all of those abnormal patterns and normalize tone, posture, and
balance.

Essay on The Essence of Pop Culture
Talk about Pop Music, Talk about Pop Music was one of the most catchy phrases of the 1980 s. Just
as in the 80 s, today we see many characteristics of pop culture effecting our lives. But, what is pop
culture?
br
br I spent some time online trying to answer my question and time after time I was led to the same
direction: pop culture is what we see, hear, speak, and are otherwise exposed to on a daily basis. The
infomercials we see late on television, the billboards we see on the side of the road, the junk mail we
receive, the links on the web pages we visit, and the radio commercials we hear all tie together to form
this idea of pop culture. These, plus many other aspects, form our minds and teach us how to be
culturally smart. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Showing how people will believe movies, maybe because they see it, but yet not believe in a possible
salvation. Not all pop culture is like that. Look at the Jerry Springer Show. It is a cultural icon for
college students everywhere. It s the allure of crazy people and wild stories that attract people to
watch it. He has become forever an American figure and will always be associated when some one
brings up a story about a fight and they then say hey you remember that Springer Show? This show
represents the corrupt side of society, which we do not see on a normal daily basis, except for on the
show. It is typical American culture just as Wrestling is now becoming. They both offer a wild show
for entertainment and also shows a darker side of the society.
br
br As a society and culture, we decide what pop culture is. Our actions and reactions are read by the
media and the rest of society to build around what we want, ultimately creating Pop Culture. There is
not a bias for these ideas considering that everything that surrounds us, including history is pop culture
in a way. People decided what the times

Fed Ex and Ups, Air Express Industry Analysis
FED EX and UPS
Airfreight Industry Analysis
1. During the 1980s, the air express industry was a medium to attractive industry to already be a major
player in, but not a very attractive industry to try and break into. The industry can be characterized by
high rivalry from competitors who compete on the same services with very little differentiation,
medium power from suppliers who supply the resources necessary to run the business, high buyer
power because customers can basically find an equal service from any firm in the industry, low
substitution threat from other means of shipping transportation, and low threat of new entrants due to
the high initial capital outlay and need of management ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, threat of substitutes is low because air express still dominated the shipping scene and electronic
transmission was not yet perfected. Threat of entry is low because it requires large capital investments
for a firm to startup and thus it can impede the entry of new firms into the industry. Lastly, it would be
hard to break into the industry because the other firms already have economies to scale, are further
along learning curve, and may have certain airspace leases that blocks out the new company from
potential routes.
Therefore this industry is a pretty good one to already be in, but would be very tough to try and break
into. Since established firms do not have to worry about threat of entrants or substitution, they can
focus on making their core business practices cost efficient and profitable. Although firms have to deal
with high buyer and supplier power, every firm has to deal with these issues. Therefore this leaves
only rivalry to compete on, which forces firms to stay sharp, observe the competition, and provide
excellent service to the firm s customers to generate profit. Industry competition intensified from 1988
to 1989 because there was a significant slowdown of the growth rate of the air express industry due to
increasing geographic saturation, the acceptance of electronic transmission, and rapid consolidation of

3. MARKET ANALYSIS
3.1. Research Findings
We gathered our information from various interviews from existing owners of football fields, as well
as the many potential players in the area. Our findings indicated that a demand for such a service
exists and that the potential players in the vicinity indeed demand for a real, proper, high quality field,
and an appealing price.
We initially had 3 locations planned in our mind to choose for our pitch: Muscat, Batinah, and AL
Sharqyiah. Muscat has an abundance of football fields and there was little demand from the players to
play in addition to the huge traffic in it. Al Sharqyiah, on the other hand, very little demand in the
region plus very high costs into creating the pitch. However, in Al Suwayq we found out that demand
for this service indeed exists and the market was well prepared.
We interviewed the competitors in the market and they told us that there is so much demand that
reservations need to be made at least 2 days prior the day that they play. Our target market is the male
youth in Al Suwayq. The total population is around 94,000 where 46,000 of them are male.
The strongest competitor, Al Nibras Field, is a big field, in a nice location, with good grass quality.
They were in this business for 3 years, so they have a well established fan base. Thus, it is quite

The Law Why We Should or Shouldn t Obey
The Law The law has been around for centuries since the beginning of time. It was used as early as the
era before Jesus birth. Although ideas have changed over time, the law in general still exist in today s
society. The idea of law was intended for order and avoiding citizens from revolting and rebelling
against the government. People should obey the law because the law creates a stable and safer society.
There are many reasons why people obey the law People obey the law because of religious values,
fear of punishment, costs, and it protects the weak. Obey Citizens can choose to obey the law because
of religious beliefs. The law was strictly enforced in the bible. The story of Jesus of the Nazareth death

Of course you will have the few people who think the law in general is just ignorant and doesn t apply
to them at all. These people disobey the law so that they can portray a certain imagine or boost their
reputation in society. In some cases, breaking the law can be fun while your in the moment. For
example running a stop because you re involved in a street race can feel risky but overall the feeling of
breaking the law and getting away with it is a fun experience. There is a theory that the hot or
attractive women like men who are in trouble with the law. Although this is a myth, I have personally
seen this in action before. Having the persona of a bad boy gives men especially an advantage on
women. To some women, men who break the law seem to be tough and physically strong. Citizens
also break the law when they don t agree with government regulations. A perfect example is the era s
of Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., etc. Parks specifically, refused to give her seat near
the front of the bus for a Caucasian male. The law in her state was any black or colored citizen had to
give up their front row seat if a white person got on the bus. Also if the bus was crowded with riders,
blacks were suppose to give up their seat regardless of its location to a white person. Rosa Parks
decided to go against the law at that time and not relinquish her seat to a white man. She was therefore
thrown in jail for going breaking the law. Parks went against

Mother Tongue By Demetria Martinez
As the words of our founding fathers, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is the American dream
that many pursue, whether immigrated to the United States or born here. Within Demetria Martinez s
book, Mother Tongue, a novel, the character named Jose Luis flees from El Salvador to the United
States in order to escape it s brutal civil war. His choice to flee El Salvador and enter the United States
under a false name places him in a difficult situation, both in his moral abandonment of his home
country El Salvador, and for crossing the United States border illegally. The position of Jose Luis can

Victor Davis Hanson, a columnist for the Los Angeles Times , writes in his opinion piece, Borders are
to distinct countries what fences are to neighbors, [a] means of demarcating that something on one
side is different from what lies on the other side..., [ it] is impossible [distinguish physical space]
unless it is seen and can be so understood as distinct and separate. Therefore, without a country s
borders it would be difficult to define where a country s jurisdiction begins and ends, who is
constituted as a citizen, and who is granted its legal rights. There are of course exceptions to this such
as the border between Canada and the U.S. or the European Union, both of which have porous
borders, allowing for easy travel between the two with often little to no physical barriers.
According to the U.S. travel page, entry into Canada will ...[R]equire that all persons entering Canada

If a citizen leaves to reside within another, things such as taxes or laws would be impossible to

Antecedents Of Environmental Pollution
An environmental pollutant: Smog
Smog is fundamentally gotten from the converging of two words; smoke and haze. Smog is likewise
used to portray the sort of mist which has smoke or sediment in it. Smog is a yellowish or blackish
haze framed principally by a blend of poisons in the climate which comprises of fine particles and
ground level ozone. Smog which happens principally on account of air contamination, can likewise be
characterized as a blend of different gasses with tidy and water vapor. Smog additionally alludes to
foggy air that makes breathing troublesome.
The environmental contaminations or gasses that shape smog are discharged noticeable all around
when powers are copied. Whenever daylight and its warmth respond with these gasses and fine
particles in the environment, smog is framed. It is simply caused via air contamination. Ground level
ozone and fine particles are discharged noticeable all around because of complex photochemical
responses between unpredictable natural mixes (VOC), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides
(NOx). These VOC, SO2 and NOx are called antecedents. The fundamental wellsprings of these
antecedents are toxins discharged straightforwardly into the air by gas and diesel run vehicles, modern
plants and exercises, and warming because of human exercises.
Smog is regularly caused by overwhelming movement, high temperatures, daylight and quiet winds.
These are few of the variables behind expanding level of air contamination in climate. Amid

Why Bikers Are Bad
Most of us know when we are sick or a loved one has passed, how hard it is to cope with everyday

Semiotic Analyze of Lost in Translation
What some believe to be called „power of cinema is, according to Peter Wollen, aesthetic richness and
it originates from simple fact of all three demensions of a sign: iconic, indexical and symbolic are
being used (Wollen, 1998, p. 83). In this work, whereby I make a semiotic analysis of a still scene
taken from film „Lost in Translation (Sofia Copolla, 2003), I will explain notion of this classification,
and, using Roland Barthes s model, show layers of denotation and conotation, explicitly pointing out
compotents of a sign signifiers and signifieds. Concepts of denotation and conotation as layers of

Analysis Of The Poem Lady Lazarus
In the poem Lady Lazarus, there are many images that invoke the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from
the dead. The encounters that Lady Lazarus had with death both accidental and intentional resonates a
dark and grim tone throughout the poem. Looking at the lines four and five, she makes a reference to
the lampshades that were made out of the skin of slaughtered Jews by the Nazis. With this reference
she wants readers to make that connection between her and the Holocaust victims. As we go down to
lines ten through fifteen, she tells the readers to peel off the napkin referring to the white sheet used to
cover corpses to view her face. She also describes herself having eye pits instead of eyes and stinking
sour breath . With those references, I interpret that as although technically she is alive, her body is
almost dead. We get more of the gruesomeness of the speaker coming back to life in lines sixteen
through eighteen Lady Lazarus states that the grave cave , which is symbolism of death, ate the flesh
that was on her within her home. In line twenty one, she briefly compares herself to having the nine
lives of a cat through a simile but in a much grimmer version by saying she has nine times to die.
When Lady Lazarus refers to annihilating a trash in lines twenty three to twenty four, my
interpretation of that statement is that she is speaking about death. Once a decade she comes close to
dying. In effect, she is calling her life, otherwise referred to her body as a

Political Radicalization Examples
Radicalization is defined as the process of becoming more extreme, or regressing away from the
center of a spectrum, in belief and thusly action. This term is now more modernly used to describe
violent religious radicals in the religion of Islam. Radicalization however, can occur in any system that
contains more than one concrete set of thought. From the two party system of U.S, to the split of sikhs
and shia muslim ethnic groups, radicalization to either side, in example, liberal to conservative and
sikh to shia, is vehemently dangerous and ought to be avoided. Moderation, on the other hand, is the
trait of remaining in the center of a spectrum of thought, taking no personal stakes or dedication to
either side. In politics moderates are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moderation is the only manner of compromise and non violence in a reality which encourages division
and extremist tendencies. The ability to rationalize and interpret the desires of both sides of an
argument is essential in both higher order diplomacy and day to day leadership. Becoming a radical in
any sense blinds one to the perspective of an entire side of a spectrum, and turns them into a diluted
amalgamation of evil something to be destroyed, not discussed with. The only true outcome of
radicalism is either the complete destruction of one side or the a stalemate, in which no progress can
be made. Both extremism of culture and politics are equally dangerous, for the sake of both life and
economic policy. Moderation is not the opposite site of the spectrum of extremism, it is the rejection
of extremism at all, considering it to be a waste of effort. A push towards the middle, away from the
growing concentration of the extremes in all political and cultural spectrums is the most pragmatic
means of reaching a zenith of peace and

The Second Sex By Beudie De Beauvoir Analysis
II. INTRODUCTION
Modern women are bringing down the standards and stereotypes that are put upon them by society;
but their success in breaking the stereotype and living freely in their human state is not something that
can be handed to them that easily. Women are born into a world which subordinate them to men,
making it as though their ultimate goal and destination should be marriage, which makes it important
to study their journey deliberately.
Women are given a standard and pre destined path for them to play in their lives. In the second volume
of The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir tries to describe how a woman is trained to accept her
position and what she has to go through as well as the escape mechanisms that are permitted to her.
We can then understand the problems women face and their keenness for a better tomorrow.
III. AUTHOR S PROFILE Simone Lucie Ernestine Marie Bertrand de Beauvoir, also known as
Simone de Beauvoir, studied mathematics at the Institut Catholique de Paris after passing
baccalaureate exams in philosophy and mathematics in 1925, in addition, she also studied literature at
the Institut Sainte Marie.

De Beauvoir starts the list of problems off where the life of the woman starts as well and continues as
the woman grows older, and that is something I found really amusing because it really shows how the
problems grow along with the woman. It really awakens you to problems in society in regards to the
inequality of women and makes you feel empowered while you read it. Reading this book will really
make one feel the need to take a stand against this male dominant society and break free from the
chains that lock women into

Short Speech On Uber
You love capitalism. Really you do. And you can t stand big government. Really you can t. Don t

Just a few years ago, summoning a private car and driver in a few minutes that would take you where
you wanted to go was truly a service available only to the wealthiest people. But now, thanks to
capitalism, private rides are an affordable option for ordinary people all over the world. Until Uber
came around, if it started to rain in Manila and you wanted a grab a cab, good luck. Too many rain
drenched people and too few cabs. Uber had a better idea. Rain falls. Demand for rides spikes. Raise
prices to incentivize more Uber drivers to hit the road. Ride in the rain problem solved. Airbnb is
another example. Only a few years ago, if you were going on vacation with your friends or family,
hotels were just about your only option. But hotels are expensive, and often don t provide all that
much in terms of space, amenities, or interesting neighborhoods. If you wanted to find out if
individual homeowners were making their homes or condos available for a few nights, you d have to
scour internet postings. But then Airbnb came along, giving anyone with a computer or smartphone
access to over 2 million homes in 190 countries. You can find places with hot tubs and pools; or, if

Tay Soon, By Catherine Lim Summary
Passion is defined in the Canadian Oxford High School Dictionary as a strong and barely controllable
emotion. The author, Catherine Lim, develops ideas and concepts about the immense influence of a
ruling passion on an individual s life, within the story she wrote, titled, Paper . The individual s life in
which gets effected by a ruling passion is Tay Soon, who has a dream of building a home of
perfection, shaped and decorated consummately with utter flawlessness and superiority. Fundamental
ideas of vast influence that Catherine developed among this topic were evoking change, inspiration,
and clout it has in outcome, through the whole of another s life. Change is a concept of starting at one
point, and ending up somewhere else, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A ruling passion can inspire someone to put their thoughts and/or words into action. Quoted on page
76, Tay Soon secured a loan from his bank and put twenty thousand in OHT. This situation
represented putting thoughts into actions to put effort towards achieving one s dream because Tay
wanted to do it for quite some time, and then finally came about doing it. Secondly, a different
repercussion of inspiration would be for one to continue on dreaming even when things get rough.
This was shown when Tay was upset due to failing to buy a share at nine dollars which a few days
later had hit seventeen dollars (located on page 77), but he continued on trying to achieve his dream,
and didn t let that one stock discourage him. Besides this, a ruling passion can influence an individual
s life through inspiring other s to become passionate or take action as well. Delineated after Dr. Soo
bought the Russian Banking shares for four dollars, and turned out to be worth seven the next day, in
which the time came when Tay and Yee became even more passionate towards this and their dream
than they were before. Being a powerful piece reacting from a ruling passion, inspiration can influence
an individual`s life in a considerable

Viking Stereotypes
Viking Paragraphs
Raider (violent): Since the Vikings weren t historically proven to wear the armour we portray in pop
culture, what did the common Viking battle armour consist of or look like?
In today s pop culture, we represent Vikings as bloodthirsty warriors of great savagery, bearing horned
helmets with layers of animal hides draped over their colossal bodies. Of course, they were
commendable warriors but not all of these fan favorite TV shows and movies were necessarily factual
in all aspects. During Viking times, hand to hand combat was the only way to achieve victory and
gunpowder was just pure fiction. The weaponry used was primarily axes, bows and arrows, spears,
and swords. This made substantial armour absolutely fundamental for battle successions. Their
authentic armour was quite contrary to our modern beliefs. Unlike the common artistic portrayal,
Vikings never wore horned helmets and instead bore coned shaped helmets made from leather. Raiders
wore armour made from thick layers of animal hide which sometimes had bones sewn in for added
stability. It was also believed that weapon inventory was used to base Vikings social standing.
During their time, weapons cost an arm and a leg to produce so only the wealthiest of kings had a fully
stocked armoury while the poor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the common imagery associated with Viking dining is a rowdy clan huddled around a
roasting pit with a hog carcass dripping with fats, the Vikings actually steered quite far from roasting
their food and it actually was very rare. They preferred to boil their meats, extracting all the flavors
and then using the used boiling water repeatedly to create broths. The Vikings weren t cooks who
created waste and tended to use every scrap into future meals. They used old bread doughs to make
sourdough loaves and used even old soured milk to enrich the flavors of their

Essay on Setting in Greasy Lake by T. Coraghessan Boyle
Greasy Lake by T. Coraghessan Boyle
Nature has a powerful way of portraying good vs. bad, which parallels to the same concept
intertwined with human nature. In the story Greasy Lake by T. Coraghessan Boyle, the author portrays
this through the use of a lake by demonstrating its significance and relationship to the characters. At
one time, the Greasy Lake was something of beauty and cleanliness, but then came to be the exact
opposite. Through his writing, Boyle demonstrates how the setting can be a direct reflection of the
characters and the experiences they encounter.
The lake itself plays a major role throughout the story, as it mirrors the characters almost exactly. For
example, the lake is described as being fetid and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is ironic that not only is the lake named Greasy Lake, but the individuals who hang out there are
also referred to as being greasy characters as well. The 3 main characters find themselves surrounded
by dangerous characters, and get stuck in the middle of a huge fight. As if things aren t bad enough,
the main characters then attempt to rape a girl that is with the man they just fought. Very soon after
more people show up ready to join in the deviant behavior, all while in the presence of this dirty,
disgusting lake. I d struck down one greasy character, and blundered into the waterlogged carcass of a
second (128). No matter what the main characters do, or how they react to the conflicts presented,
they constantly find themselves in the presence of more greasy characters at the greasy lake.
The author also makes a connection between the lake and the characters in his use of the word nature.
Fairly early in the story Boyle explains that the characters go to the lake to plunge into the festering
murk, drink beer, smoke pot, howl at the stars which again shows us the connection between the
disgusting lake and the deviant teen boys. (125). Boyle then concludes the paragraph by saying, This
was nature, which describes the attitudes and behaviors of the teenagers that go to the lake (125). Yet

right down to its deepest core by the ever enlarged immoral plague of drug misuse. In this society of
ever growing human rights and of an increasing freedom of choice, we are presumed to observe and

Throughout America, illegal narcotics and substances are increasingly accessible to everyone of any

Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors
Although the term cardiovascular disease refers to a disorder of the cardiovascular system, it is usually
associated with atherosclerosis, also known as arterial disease. It is considered the leading cause of
deaths in the world, taking 17.1 million lives a year. There are only a few factors that are non
modifiable, these being the persons age, gender, family history and their race and ethnicity. Although
there are non modifiable risk factors, there are multiple multiple risk factors that are modifiable that

Tobacco use also increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases, whether it being smoking or chewing
tobacco. The risk is particularly higher if the person started smoking at a young age, smokes heavily
and/or if the person is a woman. No matter how long that person has been smoking for, stopping can
make a major difference when it comes to cardiovascular diseases. Physical inactivity is also a
modifiable risk factor, obesity is a big problem in many countries and it increases the risk of heart
diseases by 50%. Obesity also leads people to diabetes, which is also a risk. 31% or coronary heart
diseases and 11% of the strokes worldwide are due to a high diet in fats, this is a big deal in certain
countries because high diets in fats are seen everywhere. Another factor is being poor. It is normal that
low income will make people s lives lean towards a stressful one, one where there is social anxiety,
isolation and depression, which are all reasons why a person can get cardiovascular diseases. When
someone abuses alcohol, drinking more than two drinks a day, it increases their risks as well. There
are a few other modifiable risk factors, such as taking certain medications.
The only behavior that is detrimental to my cardiovascular health that I would be unwilling to change
would be smoking. The reason for this is because I had tried to stop

The Leadership Theory Of Leadership
The leadership module is a very wide and dynamic one. There are several definitions for leadership as
Stodgill (1974, p12) states. Seeman (1960, p3) defines leadership as the acts of a person which
influence other people towards a shared direction. Influence is a vital aspect of leadership as the
person who leads should have the charisma and the ability to influence others, otherwise leadership is
non existent. However that does not mean that leaders are better people than their followers. Hollander
(1992, p7) explains that leaders and followers should be understood in relation to each other. Leaders
and followers both have a mutual purpose and attention to common goals.

The group I was in was with Gary, Suwin and Matt, the same members from the previous term.
Firstly, we looked pseudo transformational leadership style. This leadership method is where leaders
violate the ethical requirements of transformational leadership and the leaders have certain
characteristics such as being self consumed, exploitive and power orientated with values that they
believed should be followed (Bass and Steidlmeier 1999). Bass and Steidlmeier (1999, p163) also
suggest that leaders who adopt this method are more focused on their own interests rather than the
interests of others. Barling et al. (2008), Christie et al. (2011), Eisenbeiß and Boerner (2013) and Kark
et al. (2003) believe that pseudo transformational leadership style exploit transformational behaviors
to encourage their followers unconditional loyalty to and dependence on the leader. However none of
us from the group believed that we should adopt this approach due to the unethical morals of this
approach. Therefore we moved on to the next leadership style which was the transformational
leadership. Downton (1973) was the one who came with this term. Transformational leadership is
when the leader engages with others and helps to raise motivation and morality for both leader and
followers. Burns (2003) explains that transformational leadership is related to morale development in
2 ways; the first way is when leaders incorporate 3

The Roles Of Nero And The Legacy Of Emperor Nero
Emperor Nero, born Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus on December 15, 37, passed from this world June
9, 68 from a self inflicted stab wound to the throat. He is survived by his two wives and his loyal
slaves who helped him escape Rome before he was to be arrested and executed (Commire, 1994).
Those citizens of the Roman Empire that died prior to the arranged murder of Nero s mother,
Agrippina the Younger, would have known Nero as a kind and generous ruler who banned the death
penalty and reduced taxes. A progressive thinker, Emperor Nero even allowed slaves to report harsh
masters to the courts. He would also be remembered as a patron to the arts who began contests in
poetry, theater, and athletics to replace the blood sports that he had banned. ( Nero , 2017)
Unfortunately, history would not remember Nero so kindly. Beginning with the stabbing of his mother
in 59, the reign of Nero was to be one of scandal and tyranny. Unlucky in love, Nero had his wife/step
sister, Octavia, exiled and murdered in 62. He did this to pursue the affections of the wife of a senator,
Poppaea Sabina. After having forcing a divorce from her husband, they were happily married the
following year, 63. This marriage lasted for two years until Nero kicked Poppaea in the stomach,
while she was with child, that ultimately killed her (Commire, 1994). He then fixed upon the idea of
marrying Statilia Messalina and promptly had her husband killed. The following year, he also married

My Life Of My Family
I come from a place where people are determined. Determined to surpass the difficult times,
determined to make their families proud, determined just to live. Where I m from people could hardly
manage to balance buying food and paying for rent. People walked to school, to the grocery store, and
to work because not everyone could afford to have and maintain a car. Kids grew up with one parent
or none at all. I had both of my parents, a roof over my head, and food on the table. So I was one of
the lucky ones. Except things aren t always as simple as they seem. The people around me weren t the
only ones who faced difficult situations. Growing up the way I did broke me down and built me back
up repeatedly, but because my problems never seemed to compare to others and everyone was
struggling with something in their own way, I learned to keep them to myself.
My family moved to Fitchburg right before I was going to kindergarten. When we first moved here,
we lived in a dangerous neighborhood so my parents wouldn t allow me to associate with the kids on
my street. This resulted in me spending a lot of time alone because I was an only child. My mom had a
job a few towns away and my dad found work in the next town over. They worked opposite shifts so
seeing the two of them together was not a common occurrence. For these reasons, it was incredibly
exciting for me as a child when the three of us would venture out to visit a family friend. It was my
mom s closest friend, Rob, who lived

The historical utilization and historical data for facility services is the same, regardless of the level of
patient s level of co payment. The average fees are as follows:
Inpatient Acute Care Services Average daily free for service charge $1,200.00
Surgical Procedures per case $1,300.00
Skilled Nursing $430.00
Mental Care Average Daily Cost $540.00
Emergency Room Care per visit $190.00
The following services were calculated by dividing the cases, days, and/or the visits per year by 1,000.
Service Calculation Result
Inpatient Acute Care 400/1,000 0.4
Skilled Nursing Facility Care 25.2/1,000 0.0252
Inpatient Mental Care 64.4/1,000 0.0644

Emergency Room Care 132/1,000 0.132

Once this is completed, the product is then divided by twelve. For instance, the inpatient acute care
cost is calculation by multiplying $1,200.00 by 0.4, then dividing by twelve. The cost would equal
$40. This process will be used to calculate the remaining inpatient services. Using the information

outpatient services is $3.43. The facility services total cost is $54.25. Upon calculating the base

The Era Of The Gilded Age
From 1865 to 1900, the American industry paved the way for an era like none that has been seen
before. The country built and invented more supplies and materials than anyone had thought possible.
Even though, this time in history seemed progressive on many fronts, it was known as the Gilded Age
. The Gilded Age was a three decade time in America that involved an expanding economy and a
useless government. The thought of going to an American city, getting a job, and getting paid was
ideal to most outsiders. The problem was, once they arrived and found a job, it was not as wonderful

Along with other factors, the ghettos shined a bad light on immigrants because the ugly and unkempt
house were a reflection of the immigrants living there. The city people were no longer accepting of the
foreigners and nativism began. Nativism is protecting the interests of native born people against the
interests of immigrants. Most Americans were afraid of the immigrants and the power they had on the
economy, so they started to attack the immigrants, both physically and socially. Many political
cartoons were published supporting anti immigration and violence was geared towards the newcomers
(Appleby 310). There is no doubt the abundant numbers of immigrants created issues amongst the
American people. Immigration was an issue that needed attention. In attempt to hinder the incoming
population, the Chinese Exclusion Act started in 1882. The act prevented all people of Chinese origin
to move to America. It also prevented any Chinese person already living in America to gain
citizenship, if they had not already (310). The government also began to put regulations and
restrictions on who could enter the U.S. In 1907 the Immigration Commission was established. This
department only had to deal with immigration and immigration laws. They prevented unskilled
immigrants and criminals from entering the U.S. Their job was also to deport any immigrants that had
committed a crime (America and Immigration). The government understood the problems

  • 2. The Parliamentary Debate On The Munich Agreement Essay The Parliamentary Debate on the Munich Agreement World War II is among the most significant wars in American history. Although the U.S. didn t join the war efforts directly until after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the impact the war had on the U.S. was great. Among other causes, the Munich Agreement was one of many things that came into in existence paving the way for WWII to begin. As addressed in the Parliamentary Debate on the Munich Agreement, many in the British Parliament (Winston Churchill, Neville Chamberlain, etc.) discussed the course of action that should be taken regarding Germany and Hitler. Many, including Neville Chamberlain signed this agreement in hopes of maintaining peace, others, like Winston Churchill believed that holding for peace would ultimately lead to their downfall. The Munich Agreement was a pact that allowed Germany to annex many parts of Czechoslovakia also known as Sudetenland; Sudetenland was along Germany s borders and this is where many of the citizens were native in the language but of different races. These plans on Sudetenland, if acted on would inevitably cause another world war, ...it became known in May 1938 that Hitler and his generals were drawing up a plan for the occupation of Czechoslovakia. (Munich Agreement). France and Great Britain were allies with Czechoslovakia at this time; Czechoslovakia was also involved in a treaty with the Soviet Union declaring the readiness of the Russian military to assist France and Great Britain ... • 3. Themes Of Power, Deceit, Racial Discrimination, Fate, And... The Man in the High Castle tells the story of a parallel world, one in which the Japanese and the Germans won the war, and the world now operates in their favor. The story line revolves around a book that is written by a man who only writes what the Ching says to. One book in particular is forbidden to many, and it is because the contents tell the story of what really happened , how we got to the world we live in today. Philip K Dick wraps this intriguing story around themes of power, deceit, racial discrimination, fate, and gender norms of the 1950 s and 60 s. The tone for power was set very early in the novel. A substitute, then. Your recommendation, Mr. Childan? Tagomi deliberately mispronounced the name; insult within the code that made Childan s ears burn. Place pulled, the dreadful mortification of their situation. Robert Childan s aspirations and fears and torments rose up and exposed themselves, swamped him, stopping his tongue. He stammered, his hand sticky on the phone (Dick, 2). This example occurs in the first chapter. You could believe that this is a simple error on Mr. Tagomi s part, or you could view it from the aspect of blatant, yet sidle, disrespect masked in the disguise of an honest mistake. Mr. Tagomi knew this would get underneath Mr. Childan s skin based upon his standards for respect and public manners. From the very beginning Mr. Tagomi played into the struggle for power expressed throughout The Man in the High Castle . The story is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Interview Panel On The Middle School Basketball Coaches Essay Activity Description and Summary For this activity I was responsible for being part of our interview panel to hire our middle school basketball coaches. We hired four coaches to help mentor our fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade boys basketball teams. I was part of a three person interview panel that featured our principal, athletic director, and me. This interview process was the first time I ve been a part of hiring someone to feel a need at the school. The topic we interviewed is something I was comfortable with because I have coached basketball the past six years. I felt like I could find us the right fit and discussed the opportunity to be a part of the hiring process because of the need of this internship activity. It s hard to find an interview process during the year for teachers, but I believe coaching is a great substitute for teaching because it is an extension of the classroom. Learning how to play a sport and how you conduct yourself on the court can help you later in life. I wanted to find a candidate that could be a role model for the students and help teach them life lessons through the game of basketball. We all agreed we are looking for someone who will stress that basketball doesn t come above our education and our families. Our school has struggled with student achievement and I think sports can help motivate students to do better in the classroom. The class that best aligns with the hiring process is EL 5623. This class helped us learn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Everything is not black and white when it comes to proving... Everything is not black and white when it comes to proving that one is guilty or innocent based on a neurological basis alone when we have to look at morals, and whether or not one s brain abnormality deems them not responsible for any actions or crimes they may or may not commit. According to Lambert and Kinsley, it is difficult to distinguish a specific cause for a certain behavior (specifically criminal behavior in this case). Despite these difficulties, all hope should not be lost, because areas of the brain (i.e. the frontal cortex, prefrontal cortex, orbital frontal cortex, amygdala, etc.) have been helpful in many cases considering the use of modern brain imaging technology, and studies containing scientific methodology. It must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was also seen that vicious criminals have could most likely be victims of child abuse and brain injury. (p.458) According to Gazzoniga( 2008), many debate whether or not human beings should be responsible for what they do. The mind is so complex, and being that the brain is being studied so in hopes of identifying how people think and perceive has opened many doors for law officials looking for new ways to figure out the truth. In fact, Pardo (2006) believes that the skills to lie and deceive were developed biologically and linguistically; he continued to say that being able to detect lies is extremely beneficial to the legal system, because it would aide in finding solutions for disputes in a way that is reliable while trapping liars (people whose stories are inconsistent, contradicting, eventually leading the suspect to confess). A major issue however, is ethics in terms of the type of questions asked when using as neuroscience based lie detector test. Would the lie detector tests help the defendant or work against them? Lambert and Kinsley (2011) explain that polygraph tests today measure electrodermal activity (skin response), blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate. In the past there were many unethical ways of trying to detect the truth that were extremely irrational such as seeing if the witched in New England would sink or not; I assume that if they did not sink they were not the truth. • 6. Culturally Competent Health Care Stage 4 focuses on the rationale for providing culturally competent health care to refugee s. Cultural competence relates to a set of behaviours or attitudes that enable the health care system to provide a high quality of equitable care to all groups within society (Germov, 2014). Based on the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) a refugee is defined as someone who owing to a well founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to, or owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country. Watson noted a gap in staff knowledge of interpretation services as well as the availability of services in rural Victoria. I would like to see further the structure of interpreter services and examine whether a gap exists in Queensland rural areas. As mentioned previously, understanding the available services and health care structure within Australia can be difficult for a refugee. Davidson, N., et al. (2004) discussed the difficulties refugees face finding a regular health care provider due to the structure of visa category entitlements provided by the government. This is also compounded by a fundamental distrust of government services within some refugee cultures. • 7. Types Of Methods Used By Occupational Therapy For Treat... There are four different types of methods to be used by an occupational therapy to treat their clients with motor control problems to enable clients functional movement, and independence. These methods are Rood, Brunnstrom, Neurodevelopmental(NDT) also known as Bobath s, and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF). These four methods have similarities according to their different perspectives on how clients are going to be treated with abnormal tones. These four methods are very helpful for OTs/OTAs to treat their clients. Examples of these dysfunctions are abnormal muscle tones such as; rigidity antagonist and agonist are both working together, spasticity hypertonic; and flaccidity Hypotonic, as well as different abnormal reactions of the client such as; inability to do righting reactions, equilibrium reactions; and protective extension reactions. There are also two types of abnormal reflexes that the client might manifest if they have a CNS dysfunction and those are Asymmetrical Tonic Reflexes for an Infant, and Deep Tendon Reflex for an adult. Incoordination of Dorsal Column, Basal Ganglia, and Cerebellar are also examples of CNS Dysfunctions that the client might have. Using these 4 approaches, such as rood s, brunnstrom s, bobath s and pnf, will help reduce all of those abnormal patterns and normalize tone, posture, and balance. • 8. Essay on The Essence of Pop Culture Talk about Pop Music, Talk about Pop Music was one of the most catchy phrases of the 1980 s. Just as in the 80 s, today we see many characteristics of pop culture effecting our lives. But, what is pop culture? br br I spent some time online trying to answer my question and time after time I was led to the same direction: pop culture is what we see, hear, speak, and are otherwise exposed to on a daily basis. The infomercials we see late on television, the billboards we see on the side of the road, the junk mail we receive, the links on the web pages we visit, and the radio commercials we hear all tie together to form this idea of pop culture. These, plus many other aspects, form our minds and teach us how to be culturally smart. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a cultural icon for college students everywhere. It s the allure of crazy people and wild stories that attract people to watch it. • 9. Fed Ex and Ups, Air Express Industry Analysis FED EX and UPS Airfreight Industry Analysis 1. During the 1980s, the air express industry was a medium to attractive industry to already be a major player in, but not a very attractive industry to try and break into. The industry can be characterized by high rivalry from competitors who compete on the same services with very little differentiation, medium power from suppliers who supply the resources necessary to run the business, high buyer power because customers can basically find an equal service from any firm in the industry, low substitution threat from other means of shipping transportation, and low threat of new entrants due to the high initial capital outlay and need of management ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, threat of substitutes is low because air express still dominated the shipping scene and electronic transmission was not yet perfected. Threat of entry is low because it requires large capital investments for a firm to startup and thus it can impede the entry of new firms into the industry. Lastly, it would be hard to break into the industry because the other firms already have economies to scale, are further along learning curve, and may have certain airspace leases that blocks out the new company from potential routes. Therefore this industry is a pretty good one to already be in, but would be very tough to try and break into. Since established firms do not have to worry about threat of entrants or substitution, they can focus on making their core business practices cost efficient and profitable. Although firms have to deal with high buyer and supplier power, every firm has to deal with these issues. Therefore this leaves only rivalry to compete on, which forces firms to stay sharp, observe the competition, and provide excellent service to the firm s customers to generate profit. Industry competition intensified from 1988 to 1989 because there was a significant slowdown of the growth rate of the air express industry due to increasing geographic saturation, the acceptance of electronic transmission, and rapid consolidation of ... • 20. Analysis Of The Poem Lady Lazarus In the poem Lady Lazarus, there are many images that invoke the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. The encounters that Lady Lazarus had with death both accidental and intentional resonates a dark and grim tone throughout the poem. Looking at the lines four and five, she makes a reference to the lampshades that were made out of the skin of slaughtered Jews by the Nazis. With this reference she wants readers to make that connection between her and the Holocaust victims. As we go down to lines ten through fifteen, she tells the readers to peel off the napkin referring to the white sheet used to cover corpses to view her face. She also describes herself having eye pits instead of eyes and stinking sour breath . With those references, I interpret that as although technically she is alive, her body is almost dead. We get more of the gruesomeness of the speaker coming back to life in lines sixteen through eighteen Lady Lazarus states that the grave cave , which is symbolism of death, ate the flesh that was on her within her home. In line twenty one, she briefly compares herself to having the nine lives of a cat through a simile but in a much grimmer version by saying she has nine times to die. Viking Stereotypes Viking Paragraphs Raider (violent): Since the Vikings weren t historically proven to wear the armour we portray in pop culture, what did the common Viking battle armour consist of or look like? In today s pop culture, we represent Vikings as bloodthirsty warriors of great savagery, bearing horned helmets with layers of animal hides draped over their colossal bodies. Of course, they were commendable warriors but not all of these fan favorite TV shows and movies were necessarily factual in all aspects. During Viking times, hand to hand combat was the only way to achieve victory and gunpowder was just pure fiction. The weaponry used was primarily axes, bows and arrows, spears, and swords. This made substantial armour absolutely fundamental for battle successions. Their authentic armour was quite contrary to our modern beliefs. Unlike the common artistic portrayal, Vikings never wore horned helmets and instead bore coned shaped helmets made from leather. Raiders wore armour made from thick layers of animal hide which sometimes had bones sewn in for added stability. It was also believed that weapon inventory was used to base Vikings social standing. The risk is particularly higher if the person started smoking at a young age, smokes heavily and/or if the person is a woman. No matter how long that person has been smoking for, stopping can make a major difference when it comes to cardiovascular diseases. Physical inactivity is also a modifiable risk factor, obesity is a big problem in many countries and it increases the risk of heart diseases by 50%. Obesity also leads people to diabetes, which is also a risk. 31% or coronary heart diseases and 11% of the strokes worldwide are due to a high diet in fats, this is a big deal in certain countries because high diets in fats are seen everywhere. Another factor is being poor. It is normal that low income will make people s lives lean towards a stressful one, one where there is social anxiety, isolation and depression, which are all reasons why a person can get cardiovascular diseases. When someone abuses alcohol, drinking more than two drinks a day, it increases their risks as well. There are a few other modifiable risk factors, such as taking certain medications. • 30. The Leadership Theory Of Leadership The leadership module is a very wide and dynamic one. There are several definitions for leadership as Stodgill (1974, p12) states. Seeman (1960, p3) defines leadership as the acts of a person which influence other people towards a shared direction. Influence is a vital aspect of leadership as the person who leads should have the charisma and the ability to influence others, otherwise leadership is non existent. However that does not mean that leaders are better people than their followers. Hollander (1992, p7) explains that leaders and followers should be understood in relation to each other. Leaders and followers both have a mutual purpose and attention to common goals. For this reflection, we were assigned two presentations at the start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The group I was in was with Gary, Suwin and Matt, the same members from the previous term. Firstly, we looked pseudo transformational leadership style. This leadership method is where leaders violate the ethical requirements of transformational leadership and the leaders have certain characteristics such as being self consumed, exploitive and power orientated with values that they believed should be followed (Bass and Steidlmeier 1999). Bass and Steidlmeier (1999, p163) also suggest that leaders who adopt this method are more focused on their own interests rather than the interests of others. Barling et al. (2008), Christie et al. (2011), Eisenbeiß and Boerner (2013) and Kark et al. (2003) believe that pseudo transformational leadership style exploit transformational behaviors to encourage their followers unconditional loyalty to and dependence on the leader. However none of us from the group believed that we should adopt this approach due to the unethical morals of this approach. Therefore we moved on to the next leadership style which was the transformational leadership. Downton (1973) was the one who came with this term. Transformational leadership is when the leader engages with others and helps to raise motivation and morality for both leader and followers. Burns (2003) explains that transformational leadership is related to morale development in 2 ways; the first way is when leaders incorporate 3 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Roles Of Nero And The Legacy Of Emperor Nero Emperor Nero, born Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus on December 15, 37, passed from this world June 9, 68 from a self inflicted stab wound to the throat. He is survived by his two wives and his loyal slaves who helped him escape Rome before he was to be arrested and executed (Commire, 1994). Those citizens of the Roman Empire that died prior to the arranged murder of Nero s mother, Agrippina the Younger, would have known Nero as a kind and generous ruler who banned the death penalty and reduced taxes. A progressive thinker, Emperor Nero even allowed slaves to report harsh masters to the courts. He would also be remembered as a patron to the arts who began contests in poetry, theater, and athletics to replace the blood sports that he had banned. ( Nero , 2017) Unfortunately, history would not remember Nero so kindly. Beginning with the stabbing of his mother in 59, the reign of Nero was to be one of scandal and tyranny. Unlucky in love, Nero had his wife/step sister, Octavia, exiled and murdered in 62. He did this to pursue the affections of the wife of a senator, Poppaea Sabina. After having forcing a divorce from her husband, they were happily married the following year, 63. This marriage lasted for two years until Nero kicked Poppaea in the stomach, while she was with child, that ultimately killed her (Commire, 1994). He then fixed upon the idea of marrying Statilia Messalina and promptly had her husband killed. The following year, he also married a young boy named ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. My Life Of My Family I come from a place where people are determined. Determined to surpass the difficult times, determined to make their families proud, determined just to live. Where I m from people could hardly manage to balance buying food and paying for rent. People walked to school, to the grocery store, and to work because not everyone could afford to have and maintain a car. Kids grew up with one parent or none at all. I had both of my parents, a roof over my head, and food on the table. So I was one of the lucky ones. Except things aren t always as simple as they seem. The people around me weren t the only ones who faced difficult situations. Growing up the way I did broke me down and built me back up repeatedly, but because my problems never seemed to compare to others and everyone was struggling with something in their own way, I learned to keep them to myself. My family moved to Fitchburg right before I was going to kindergarten. When we first moved here, we lived in a dangerous neighborhood so my parents wouldn t allow me to associate with the kids on my street. This resulted in me spending a lot of time alone because I was an only child. My mom had a job a few towns away and my dad found work in the next town over. They worked opposite shifts so seeing the two of them together was not a common occurrence. For these reasons, it was incredibly exciting for me as a child when the three of us would venture out to visit a family friend. It was my mom s closest friend, Rob, who lived ... The country built and invented more supplies and materials than anyone had thought possible. Even though, this time in history seemed progressive on many fronts, it was known as the Gilded Age . The Gilded Age was a three decade time in America that involved an expanding economy and a useless government. The thought of going to an American city, getting a job, and getting paid was ideal to most outsiders. The problem was, once they arrived and found a job, it was not as wonderful as it seemed . Along with other factors, the ghettos shined a bad light on immigrants because the ugly and unkempt house were a reflection of the immigrants living there. The city people were no longer accepting of the foreigners and nativism began. Nativism is protecting the interests of native born people against the interests of immigrants. Most Americans were afraid of the immigrants and the power they had on the economy, so they started to attack the immigrants, both physically and socially. Many political cartoons were published supporting anti immigration and violence was geared towards the newcomers (Appleby 310). There is no doubt the abundant numbers of immigrants created issues amongst the American people. Immigration was an issue that needed attention. In attempt to hinder the incoming population, the Chinese Exclusion Act started in 1882. The act prevented all people of Chinese origin to move to America. It also prevented any Chinese person already living in America to gain citizenship, if they had not already (310). The government also began to put regulations and restrictions on who could enter the U.S. In 1907 the Immigration Commission was established. This department only had to deal with immigration and immigration laws. They prevented unskilled immigrants and criminals from entering the U.S. Their job was also to deport any immigrants that had committed a crime (America and Immigration).
