Micro RNA genes and their likely influence in rice (Oryza sativa L.) dynamic ...Open Access Research Paper
Micro RNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs molecules having approximately 18-25 nucleotides, they are present in both plants and animals genomes. MiRNAs have diverse spatial expression patterns and regulate various developmental metabolisms, stress responses and other physiological processes. The dynamic gene expression playing major roles in phenotypic differences in organisms are believed to be controlled by miRNAs. Mutations in regions of regulatory factors, such as miRNA genes or transcription factors (TF) necessitated by dynamic environmental factors or pathogen infections, have tremendous effects on structure and expression of genes. The resultant novel gene products presents potential explanations for constant evolving desirable traits that have long been bred using conventional means, biotechnology or genetic engineering. Rice grain quality, yield, disease tolerance, climate-resilience and palatability properties are not exceptional to miRN Asmutations effects. There are new insights courtesy of high-throughput sequencing and improved proteomic techniques that organisms’ complexity and adaptations are highly contributed by miRNAs containing regulatory networks. This article aims to expound on how rice miRNAs could be driving evolution of traits and highlight the latest miRNA research progress. Moreover, the review accentuates miRNAs grey areas to be addressed and gives recommendations for further studies.
UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.
"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
The hole in our sky ~7 things I suggest you can do to help ozone hole heal faster ~
1. THE HOLE IN OUR
SKY
BY Y U Z U K A F U N A S A K A
2. Do you know about the ozone layer; a gaseous layer in
the upper atmosphere 15-30km above the Earth, which is
protecting our life by blocking a UV (ultraviolet)
radiation?
4. Before we move on to the reasons WHY we
are destroying the Ozone Layer, I would
like to explain the importance of Ozone
layer and the danger of the UV radiation
and the Ozone hole…
5. When summer comes nearby, you
hear your mama start saying “Put on
your sun cream before you burn
yourself from UV”
Well, what actually is “ultraviolet
radiation” ??
6.
7. The pictures were the photos of some of the
serious diseases you can get from ultraviolet
radiation.
•Skin cancer: The uncontrolled growth of abnormal skin cells.
•Premature aging: The fast-tracked aging of skin
•Cataracts: A form of eye damage in which a loss of
transparency in the lens of the eye clouds vision. If left
untreated, cataracts can lead to blindness
•Immune suppression: The suppression of the body’s
immune system and the skin’s natural defenses. This could lead
to HIV too.
8. Over 2,000 people die from skin cancer each
year (data from UK)
12 to 15 million people become blind from
cataracts annually, of which up to 20% may
be caused or enhanced by sun exposure
according to WHO estimates
If there is no ozone layer and the UV radiation
hits our body directly, our cells die and it’s
impossible to live on lands.
9. Long long time ago, when there was no ozone
layer above Earth, it was impossible for living
things to live on lands because of the UV
radiation from the sun…
The photosynthesis of living things in the
water eventually created an ozone layer.
This made the living things to be able to live on
lands.
10. Here is a diagram about how ozone layer absorbs UV
radiation
The oxygen molecules use ultraviolet
radiation as a energy to form into
ozone molecules. The ozone
molecules then use ultraviolet
radiation to break apart into oxygen
molecules. And these oxygen
molecules use uv radiation to form
into ozone molecules again. This
process continues, and this is how
ultraviolet radiation gets “absorbed”
by getting used up by ozone
molecules.
11. But unfortunately, there are ozone-
depleting chemicals in this world
which are chemicals that destroy
the ozone layer
The ozone-depleting chemicals are mainly chlorine and
bromine. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) is the main one.
12. Actually, originally there were not such
thing called “ozone-depleting chemicals”
in this world.
Well, where do they come from??
16. The size was more than three and a half
times the size of Australia!
Because of the chlorofluorocarbon, The two
largest Antarctic ozone holes were recorded
in 2000 (29.8 million km2) and 2006 (29.6
million km2).
Antarctic ozone holes
in 2000 and 2016
22. , IF WE ALL THINK
THAT THE OZONE HOLE WILL SAFELY HEAL AND USE
THINGS THAT PRODUCES HYDROFLUOROCARBONS AND
CFC WITHOUT THINKING, THE OZONE HOLE WON’T HEAL
SUCCESSFULLY
23.
24.
25. Now, I would like to explain what you can do to
help the ozone hole disappearance become a
reality quicker from my own solution.
27. Here is a website where you can make
change by donating and supporting the
scientists to develop a scientists-based
solution to solve environmental problems
which includes ozone hole problem.

nce_and_impacts/science/ozone-hole-and-
gw-faq.html#.V8qK_pN94dU
Please scroll all the way down this page and
you will find a donation section.
29. I think this is the one of the most
famous and also effective solutions.
Smog is also one of the substances that
help ozone-depletion and most of them
are released from cars. So using bus
instead would be a big difference.
Riding a bicycle would be wonderful
since it does not release anything bad
and also becomes a good exercise.
31. Cutting down the time doesn’t mean that you should
stop using your air conditioner! It is said that if you
don’t use the air conditioner at all in mid summer, you
can get avid disease. So actually air conditioner is
pretty important! So what you can do to cut down the
time you use your air conditioner in summer is, you can
just try using electric fans and paper fans instead of air
conditioner just for the morning. Put ice packs inside
your pillow at night and by doing this you can cut
down the time you use your air conditioner at night. By
dunking towels in ice water you can use that wet towel
wisely to cool your neck.
33. Pesticides also includes lots of ozone-depleting chemicals!
So if you don’t want pesticides used, support pesticide free
foods and organic foods by buying them! If you think
organic foods are too expensive, here is a list of foods you
don't need to buy organic (foods that only contains little or
non-pesticides when they are made) :
• Asparagus
• Avocado
• Cabbage
• Cantaloupe
• Carrots
• Cauliflower
• Eggplant
• Grapefruit
• Kiwi
• Onion
• Mango
• Mushroom
• Papaya
• Pineapple
• Sweet corn
• Sweet peas
• Sweet
potato
• Watermelon
35. We don’t want ozone-depleting
chemicals in our sprays! In fact, these
chemicals may damage your health
while using too. So see the details on
the back of the can before you buy your
sprays!
37. Supporting the ozone layer by doing eco-friendly
household chores is another good idea! There
are lots of electronic cleaning devices that
produces ozone-depleting chemicals. Your
nearest supermarkets should be selling some
kind of cleaning goods made out of natural
ingredients. Try using towels and clothes that are
no longer used to clean your floor. Try not to use
electronic devices for cleaning, and that would
make a big difference!
39. Thinking before you buy is the most
important thing to do! Because the reason
why the ozone hole was made was because
we never thought if the things we’re buying
is eco-friendly or not! When you buy
refrigerators, consider if it uses lots of CFC
or hydrofluorocarbons. Thinking before
using is also very important. Always put this
in mind!!
40. THANK YOU!!
Thank you very much for reading this slideshow! I hope you
have understood the importance of fast-tracking the ozone
healing, and would help the the ozone layer by trying some of
the 7 solutions I told you! We have to remember that we only
have one planet where we can live, so we have to think about
our planet carefully. The world is counting on your effort! I
know you can do it!!
Please share this slideshow to your friends and tell them the
importance of fast-tracking the ozone healing!
Thank you so much,
