The document discusses the concept of blended librarianship, which combines traditional librarian skills with instructional design and technology skills. It defines blended librarianship and provides examples of how skills are blended, including collaborating with instructional designers and taking on leadership and teaching roles. The presentation also provides biographies of thought leaders Steven Bell and John Shank, who developed the concept of blended librarianship. Resources for continuing education in blended librarianship are listed.

Last three decades have witnessed the information explosion. New ICT systems have increased the generation of more and more information and multiplied the knowledge bases. Every day more and more information is digitally born. The ordinary user is unable to cope with the Internet to select, choose, download, store and retrieve the right information they need from this information deluge. Yet the modern generation prefers digital format due to its advantages. For Librarian this is a great opportunity to concentrate on collection development of digital resources / e-resources and assist users by providing methods and techniques for better control of the digital resources. The principles of Library and Information Science couples with the modern day Information Technology facilitates several options for better management of Libraries, collection and services.

SPARC Webcast: Libraries Leading the Way on Open Educational ResourcesNicole Allen
This webcast features three librarians who have been leading OER projects on their campuses. Each will provide an overview of the project, discuss the impact achieved for students, and provide practical tips and advice for other campuses exploring OER initiatives.
Marilyn Billings, Scholarly Communication & Special Initiatives Librarian, University of Massachusetts Amherst Libraries. Marilyn coordinates the Open Education Initiative, which has saved students more than $750,000 since 2011 by working with faculty to identify low-cost and free alternatives to expensive textbooks.
Kristi Jensen, Program Development Lead, eLearning Support Initiative, University of Minnesota Libraries. The University of Minnesota has emerged as a national leader through its Open Textbook Library, which is a searchable catalog of more than 100 open textbooks. The Libraries also partnered with other entities on campus for their Digital Course Pack project, which has helped streamline the course pack process and make materials more affordable for students.
Shan Sutton, Associate University Librarian for Research and Scholarly Communication, Oregon State University Libraries. The OSU libraries are partnering with the OSU Press for a pilot program to develop open access textbooks by OSU faculty members. The program issued an RFP in the fall, and recently announced four winning proposals that will be published in 2014-2015.

1. Visa-free entry - for passport holders with valid US, Canada, UK, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and/or Schengen visas, you can bypass the visa application process and get travel authorization certificate online for free, by filling out the form on the website, print the certificate and you are good to go. This will be valid for 90 days and good for 30 days of stay which will commence from the next day upon arrival in Taiwan.
2. The requirements and step-by-step guide is only necessary if you don't qualify for a visa-free entry.

7. What is a Blended Librarian?
• Bell and Shanks’ definition:
• first combines the traditional aspects of librarianship with the
technology skills of an information technologist, someone
skilled with software and hardware. Many librarians already
demonstrate sound technology skills of this type.
• To this, the Blended Librarian adds the instructional or
educational technologist's skills for curriculum design, and the
application of technology for student-centered learning.
• The Blended Librarian is the academic professional who offers
the best combination of skills and services to help faculty apply
technology for enhanced teaching and learning.
10. Collaborating and engaging in dialogues with
instructional technologists and designers is vital
to the development of programs, services and
resources needed to facilitate the instructional
mission of academic libraries.
It’s about team work, and co-authoring will get
you there.
Collaborate with
instructional
technologists and
designers
11. Emphasize our
ability to assist
them with
integrating IT
and library
resources into
courses
Add to that
traditional role a
new capacity to
collaborate
Collaborate on
enhancing student
learning and
outcome in
information
access, retrieval
and integration
TRANSFORM
OUR
RELATIONSHIPS
WITH FACULTY
12. Taking a leadership position as campus innovators and
change agents is critical to the success of delivering library
services in today’s information society
