Data-Informed Decision Making for Libraries - Athenaeum21Megan Hurst
Athenaeum21 presents three case studies of assessment and evaluation programs in libraries--one past, one current, and one future. The cases use three different modes of data gathering and analysis to show the power of understanding user needs and how well your organization is meeting them.
Prof. Salvacion M. Arlante, university librarian of the University of the Philippines Diliman, presented the challenges for librarians in the acquisitions of quality academic journals during C&E's Academic Publishing Forum on January 26, 2011 at C&E Information and Resource Center, Quezon City.
Librarians are increasingly being asked to engage with
bibliometrics to help with institutional decision making.
However, few have professional qualifications in this area and
there is an onus on universities to do metrics responsibly. A
small project supported by the Lis-Bibliometrics forum and
Elsevier Research Intelligence Division is developing a set of
bibliometric competency statements to ensure practitioners are
equipped to do their work responsibly and well. This workshop
will report on progress to date and invite input into the project.

Connaway, Lynn Silipigni, William Harvey, Vanessa Kitzie, and Stephanie Mikitish. 2017. “Action-Oriented Research Agenda on Library Contributions to Student Learning and Success.” Presented at the ALA Midwinter Meeting, Atlanta, Georgia, January 22.
This presentation was provided by Lisa Hinchliffe of The University of Illinois, during Session Seven of the NISO event "Assessment Practices and Metrics for the 21st Century," held on December 13, 2019.
This webinar is based on experiences of working over the past two years with a number of further education (FE) colleges to help them increase engagement with digital resources and library services. It draws on the recommendations of a number of librarians/learning resources managers on how they have increased engagement with, and use of, their resources. The emphasis will be on non-technical approaches to enhance student experience, learning and teaching.
Lis Parcell will share recommendations which will be particularly useful for librarians and learning resources staff in FE colleges, but may also be of interest to staff working in smaller university library services. Participants will be encouraged to contribute their own views on the challenges they face in increasing engagement with their digital resources and library services. We will also highlight further support available from Jisc in this area. Lis will co-present with Elizabeth Newbold, Library Manager at Activate Learning.

Implementing a Scholarly Impact Program for Faculty and Graduate StudentsBrenna Helmstutler
In academic institutions today, there are greater expectations of accountability requiring tenure-track faculty to substantively demonstrate scholarly impact for annual reporting, benchmarking, and promotion and tenure. Database vendors and other content providers are creating robust, yet user-friendly, scholarly impact tools within current products. In response, institutional libraries are offering workshops, individual assistance, research guides, and other activities to promote the value and usage of these tools. However, there is no dedicated scholarly impact outreach program yet documented in the library literature. This poster will discuss developing, implementing, and assessing an innovative scholarly impact outreach program based on the author's experience as a librarian at Georgia State University.

But Were We Successful: Using Online Asynchronous Focus Groups to Evaluate Li...Andrea Payant
USU launched a program in 2016 to connect researchers seeking federal funding with librarians to assist them with data management. This program assisted over 100 researchers, but was it successful? Our presentation will discuss how we evaluated the success of this program using online asynchronous focus groups (OAFG) in conjunction with a traditional survey. Our cross-institutional research team will share our findings as well as the challenges and successes of using OAFGs to assess library services.
This was a presentation delivered at the 10th Northumbria Conference in York during July 2013. It provides a background, and introduction and overview to the Library Analytics and Metrics Project (LAMP) work that Jisc, Mimas (University of Manchester) and University of Huddersfield are collaborating on.
The project will develop a prototype shared library analytics service for UK universities and colleges.

Areas of concern
For similar usage patterns, why are some
student groups more successful than others?
Why do postgraduates gain significantly less
benefit than undergraduate students?
39. For Philippines Libraries
Use any or a combination of the three cases
as models
Also look at theValue of Academic Libraries
Project of ACRL by Dugan, 2015
Decide on which library usage data to study
against academic performance
Consider limitations of use of e-resource
usage and social metrics
Supplement quantitative with qualitative
data to investigate possible areas of concern
40. For Philippines Libraries
Be creative in viewing the data to:
Modify not-as-effective services
Terminate non-effective services
Come up with new services
Define and follow through with action plans
based on the data
Try to coordinate for a constant data
analytics service
Improve e-resource usage and social metrics
41. Conclusion
If the school administration asks, “What is
your impact and value to the success of
your students and researchers?” the library
should be able to quantify its impact and
value.
