Spirited Away (2001). The film absolutely captured the essence of what a fantasy world should be. I
was mesmerized by the characters, the style, the animation movement and the whole entire world. It
was as if the world probably existed somewhere, hidden from the reality we live in. I was hooked with
Miyazaki s work since then. The influences of Miyazaki s work has driven me to follow my dream as
an animator. I realized that the reason why I love most of Miyazaki s work is because of his in depth
characters development. He managed to give life to the characters he created hence, making the

The Pearl, had many different characters with faults. Those faults seemed very small as the story
began, however those tiny flaws quickly became noticeable and conflicting. After being exposed to
such bad and wrong, the characters begin to really show their true colors. They show who they really
are under the influence of their faults, whether it be greed or desperateness. The characters being
completely different yet still try to show some connection and do things they would not do otherwise.

Inspired by the Wilmington Riots of 1898, Charles Chesnutt delves deep into the racial tensions of the
South in his novel On the Marrow of Tradition. Despite being set well after the end of the Civil War,
the struggle between the black and white races is far from over. The white race insists on maintaining
complete control in every aspect of society, including personal matters. They are constantly
demanding that the black community serve them. On the other end, the black race is struggling to

Leadership is a very broad topic that encompasses many aspects. Throughout my time in the Coast
Guard I have had many good and bad leaders and have learned from both of their styles. My first unit,
CGC ELDERBERRY, had eight members with an Officer in Charge, then BMCS Woody Woodell,
who literally led from the front. I knew it was not normal for an E8 to wash dishes at the time but I
didn t fully appreciate that fact until much later. When at PACTACLET as an E5 the Commanding
Officer, then LCDR Pat DeQuattro, allowed for any member to hold any qualification regardless of
rank or title. On the challenging side of Leadership, I worked for an Officer in Charge who I felt took
my disagreement with him behind closed doors in the open and was too entrenched in rank to listen to
the messenger rather than the message. Those snapshots in time and others experiences have led me to
believe that Leadership is a way of doing things that encourages others to not only want to accomplish
