Direct Unsubsidize Student Loans
Student loans can be a resource part of our culture capital. Student loans are widely used in the United
States. For the project, student loans were explained more in depth. It is important to understand some
key terms and what they mean for student loans. When students are thinking about furthering their
education they need to know the different from a grant, scholarship, work study, and the two types of
loans that come with federal funds. Direct subsidized loans are based on financial need and the interest
is paid by the board of education. Direct unsubsidized loans are not based on financial need, but the
student will need to pay the interest rate while attending school.
When repaying student loans there are options to consider. There is

Kurt Cobain Research Papers
Kurt Cobain; one of the most famous and influential musicians in the history of rock and roll more
specifically, Grunge. Being a member of Nirvana, the most prominent band in the history of the genre
isn t the only accomplishment of the late, great musician though as he also won many awards. Kurt
Cobain had an interesting upbringing, successful musical career, and a life that ended with a sudden
death. Kurt Donald Cobain was born February 20th, 1967 in Aberdeen, Washington. Son of Wendy
Elizabeth and Donald Leland Cobain, Cobain was born in Grays Harbor Hospital. Ever since Kurt was
a young boy, he has always had an interest in music as he started singing at 2 years old. At age four, he
was writing songs, singing, and playing the piano. He was also listening to rock and roll at this age
such as The Beatles or The Ramones . Cobain s parents divorced at the age of nine and both of the
adults remarried shortly after. Kurt has said in interviews that this had a very dramatic effect on him,
even going as far as changing his personality. He had always dreamed of that perfect family, and since
his parents decision stopped that from happening he held a grudge.
On Kurt s 14th birthday, his uncle offered him two choices as a birthday gift a bike or a guitar. Cobain

Biological Patents And Their Associated Exploitation
Biological Patents and Their Associated Exploitation There is no patent. Could you patent the sun?
This quote by Jonas Salk, the researcher who invented the polio vaccine in the height of the polio
scare, demonstrates the natural resistance people have to patents on biological agents. If society can
grant individuals or small groups of individuals the exclusive rights to the production and use of
biological agents in the form of a patent, the morality of such patents must be taken into consideration.
David Resnik s adaption of Marx s theories of economic exploitation to a biomedical setting can be
used to determine whether biological patents are moral. According to Resnik, A exploits B if and only
if 1) A takes advantage of B and 2) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Together, they granted Columbia University the exclusive rights to an important technique in
biotechnology and pharmacology which, allows foreign DNA to be inserted into a host cell to produce
certain proteins . The university earned almost $800 million through the licensing of these patents to
various companies and institutions. For A to exploit B, as per Resnik s definitions, there must exist an
A and B. So let A, the exploiting party, be Columbia and let B, the exploited party, be the academic
institutions and the private companies that wish to use the technique described in the patents to further
medicine. A did indeed take an advantage over B with the advantage being the university discovered
the technique before any institutions discovered that same technique or a technique very similar to
what Richard Axel discovered. A used this advantage of having the discovery first to harm B
financially by suing any institution in B for their use of Axel s techniques without the proper license.
So A exploited B. A cannot morally justify this exploitation because any financial gain A received
from exerting control of their patents gets canceled out by that equal financial loss of B. Furthermore,
A does not gain any productivity from enforcing their exclusive rights to the patents but B loses
productivity for having to apply for the licensing or not being able to attain licensing for the technique
so there is a net loss for A and B. To

Essay about Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare
Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare
In Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra, the presentation and development of the relationships among
the triumvirs, Caesar, Antony and Lepidus becomes a pivotal concern. As the play progresses, the
dynamics of the triumvirate changes and becomes more complicated, providing the audience with the
main political conflict that sometimes overshadows the romance of the title characters in the play.
Shakespeare provides the audience with several different images of the triumvirate through different
characters.
The play s first mentioning of the triumvirate is, in essence, a masculine Roman perspective of a
soldier. This is brought about through Philo and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the end of Act I Scene I, the audience sees two Roman soldiers, speaking with disappointment of
their once great general, Mark Antony, who has turned into a strumpet s fool . Apparently enough,
Antony s disregard towards the messengers from Rome, which prompts Demetrius to say Is Caesar
with Antonius prized so slight? is an indication to the possible collapse of the triumvirate. Philo s
comment, sometimes when he is not Antony he comes too short of that great property which still
should go with Antony displays clearly Antony s failure in his duty as one of the three emperors. The
servants, on the contrary recognize Lepidus s failure in playing his role as a peace maker among the
members of the triumvirate. He is compared to a reed and does not live up his position and compares
his effectiveness to the holes where eyes should be . It becomes clear that the relationships among the
members of the triumvirs is a cause for attention as we are introduced by Philo to Antony s disregard
for Caesar s messages and Lepidus s failure in his effort at peacemaking. The supposed strength of this
union is subjected to doubts and reservations as unity among the members is deficient.

Company Case Analysis Essay
1. Question: Explain the importance of risk adjustment in the capital budgeting allocation process by
answering the following questions. a. Explain why risk adjustments are important and how they can
affect firm value. b. Explain how the single hurdle rate currently used by Northern Forest Products can
change the risk structure of the company. For example, think about what would happen if the Plastic
Products Division received a disproportionately high level of funding because their returns exceed the
company hurdle rates (its growth rate substantially exceeds the corporate average). Assuming that the
risk of the division remains unchanged, what effect would this have, over time, on NFP s corporate

NFP will face an increase in the level of risk as well as the overall cost of capital. Now supposing
Plastic Products Division received a disproportionately high level of funding because their returns
exceed the company hurdle rates. Unfortunately, the division s beta is 1.28, larger than the corporate
beta reported by ValueLine (1.04) and Merrill Lynch (1.12). As NFP invests more in riskier division
and the division s beta remains unchanged, NFP s new beta and the overall cost of capital would
gradually increase a lot more than the current one, which later poses a threat to the company itself. 2.
Question: Explain the rationale behind using beta as a measure of risk. Compute the company s beta
based on the divisional betas and compare it with that provided by Value Line and Merrill Lynch.
Explain some of the inconsistencies that can be found in reported betas. Do historical betas provide
good measures of the future riskiness of firms (or divisions)? ______________________________
Beta is an effective measure of risk. Unlike standard deviation, beta is a measure of a stock s
systematic, or market risk, which cannot be diversified away. To investors, it is considered to be the
most important measure. Now we are about to take a closer look at NFC s beta. According to Northern

Unilateral versus Bilateral Training in Stroke Rehabilitation of Persons with Upper Limb Hemiparesis

Abstract
Purposeful movement of an upper limb can be difficult for many individuals with post stroke
functional limitations such as hemiparesis. Due to the level of disability caused by stroke, researchers
have investigated rehabilitation protocols such as unilateral and bilateral training, and the benefits of
each in expediting progress towards recovery. Neurophysiological mechanisms were studied,
analyzing the effects of unilateral training, bilateral training, and a combination of the two and their
effect on the brain. Participants of the studies varied widely. However, ... Show more content on

Mudie Matyas (2000) claim that long term potentiation may result from initial bilateral rehabilitation,
which in turn established a perpetual firing pattern of the brain. Once this firing pattern is established,
simultaneous activation of both hemispheres aids the more affected limb s hemisphere via crossed
corticospinal pathways. This is suspected to occur because the strong neuronal inputs to the less
affected hemisphere are able to assist the weaker inputs to the more affected hemisphere. Through this
association, the stronger input assists the weaker input to become potentiated, thereby increasing
supply to the more affected upper extremity (Mudie Matyas,

The Executive Cabinet Of Mexico
Committee Background Committee Background This committee, The Executive Cabinet of Mexico, is
appointed by the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto. There are eighteen secretaries that each
oversee various parts that are crucial to the smooth running of this country. There are many routes that
can be taken, in regards to the topics for discussion in this committee; however, during the duration of
the committee sessions, we will be focusing on drug trade and emigration as our two primary topics.
The Executive Cabinet of Mexico is, as odd as this may sound, not named as an official part of the
Constitution of Mexico. The word Cabinet is actually never mentioned; however, the Constitution
does make numerous references to the various Secretaries of States that are prevalent within the
Executive Cabinet of Mexico. As a result, the Executive Cabinet of Mexico does not have a role,
active or inactive, in the executive level or legislative level. The closest interaction they have with
either of those levels, is during a hearing where they see the Congressional committee defending and
justifying all of the actions that they have taken. The power that the Executive Cabinet of Mexico
bestows is vast due to the varied tasks, people, titles, and assignments each Secretary of State
possesses. Through both topics, drug trade and emigration, each Secretary of State shall use whatever
they can, in their power to make a difference to come closer to the end goal. Each Secretary of

Meatpacking System
The food system in the U.S. has changed a lot over these decades. In the past, people grew crops in
their land and vegetables in their gardens. Today, the food system is dominated by the industrial farms
and food companies. The industrial food system prevents us from knowing the food. We do not know
where the food comes from, how it is produced, and what the conditions that animals live in are.
Animals, such as cattle and chickens, are raised in concentrated feedlots where the conditions are
terrible and the space is narrow. When it comes to the meatpacking, we do not know how the animals
are slaughtered, gutted, and skinned. The operations are invisible and conducted behind walls. The
industrial food system aims to produce more food faster and more cheaply. However, it hides lots of
truths, such as its effect on consumers health, the environment, and the society. If there were more
transparency in the food system, the inhumane practice of meatpacking would be reduced; the living
conditions of animals would be improved; fewer fertilizers and pesticides would be used in
agriculture; consumers would have the chance to see how the food is produced and make a wiser
choice of what to eat; and the current industrial food system might be replaced. ... Show more content

As for individual actions, we can buy food produced by companies that treat animals and the
environment with care. We can choose to buy foods that are in season and grown and produced in
local farms. By doing this, we can reduce food miles, support local economies, and protect the
environment. As for collective actions, we can appeal to the FDA and USDA to enforce new standards
and requirements about the food system, such as forcing slaughterhouses to install glass walls. These
actions can force the food system to abandon current unethical and detrimental

Aging Out of the Foster Care System
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, every year close to 25,000 youth
age out of the foster care system and are faced with cold hard realities of adulthood. This does not
include the youth who leave the system, which is estimated to be another 30,000. Most adolescents
anticipate their eighteenth birthday, as it brings on a new found sense of independence and most
importantly a time of celebration. However when foster children reach eighteen, they begin facing the
challenges of transitioning to adulthood. These children disproportionately join the ranks of the
homeless, incarcerated, and unemployed. These youth are unprepared for the independent life they are
forced to take on. The average age that young adults who have never experienced foster care leave
their family home for good is 24, and 40% return home again at least once afterwards (Margolin,
2008). With these facts being stated, we yet expect youth who has dealt with rejection after rejection
to leave home of the state custody permanently and fin for themselves. These youth sometimes have
fewer than $250 in cash, only one third have drivers licenses, and fewer than one quarter have the
basic tools to set up a household, let alone the skills to know what to do with the tools (Krinsky,
2010). Youth exit care with no more than a garbage bag of their belongings, finding themselves alone
at the age of eighteen, with little reason to celebrate what is supposed to be an exciting milestone

The Theme Of The Lesson Before Dying
There are many points to consider in creation of a good story that will capture and deliver the main
idea to the audience. The most important of all those points is the setting physical location and time in
the story. For example, if the author writes a story about polar bears but set it in South America, the
story would not go along with the plot, losing its ability to create a clear message for the audience; Or
if the story doesn t have setting, its characters are simply in a vacuum with no reason to act and
develop the main idea. In the story, The Lesson before dying by Ernest J. Gaines, the setting creates
the central idea because it sets the basis for the main theme, the characters who develop the idea and
actions within their environment to reflect the issues of the story. The setting is a physical location of
events, while the central idea is the main thoughts that author want the reader to remember the most.
The Lesson before Dying is a fictional work about injustice and discrimination of blacks. To
emphasize the theme, the author set the story in the city where the history of segregation between
races is very obvious. The narrator, Grant Wiggins, describes his town as a place that is divided in two
parts: whites and blacks. He says: There was a Catholic Church uptown for whites; a Catholic church
back of town for colored. There was a white movie theater uptown; a colored movie theater back of
town. There were two elementary schools uptown, one Catholic,

grow on the long, grooved hairs of the sloth. Sucker fish attaches itself to the body of a shark. A
commensal that lives inside the body of the host is referred to as endocommensal. 1.Some saprophytic
fungi and bacteria live within the tissues and cavities of higher plants and animals. Some microbes are
seen in the lower intestines of animals.(Here they are not taking anything from the host s body)

In addition, the air force must attack by all resources to provide the command of the air. A nation is in

Comparative of Henrik Ibsen´s A Doll´s House and...
Within one s lifetime, the mark to finding oneself is being able to overcome hardships and difficulties
in order to unravel the full potential concealed within them. From being manipulated and deceived,
this manages to bring about an ability hidden within oneself that can only be triggered by experiencing
what it is like to be a victim of deception. In A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen and As You Like It by
William Shakespeare, each author entraps their protagonists with the role of being manipulative or the
victim of being manipulated to further enhance the author s purpose of revealing or unlocking the
hidden potential that arose within the characters. Throughout A Doll s House, Torvald views Nora s
actions as being deceiving not only towards him but also towards her family. However, Nora gain her
perspective on her own actions and begins observing it differently than Torvald s. The play states, It
was me they told that his life was in danger...well, well, I thought, you ve got to be saved somehow.
And then I thought of a way , (Ibsen 35 36). Within Nora s and Mrs. Linde s private conversation,
Nora conveys that her manipulation of money revealed how she deceives her husband even though it
was in good intent to save his life. In addition, this demonstrates Nora s willingness to think about
others, such as her husband, before realizing for herself that there were going to be consequences for
her later on. Within the play, Nora states, You have never understood me. A

Essentialist Theory Of The Queer Theory
sexuality often impacts the success of claims made by bi sexual refugees. The author argues that this
dominant understanding jettisons complex subjective positions and disregards varying realities. The
refugee determination system misinterprets and misidentifies the lived experiences of bisexual
claimants because of this knowledge, further disadvantaging this group of refugees. Rehaag observes
that individuals seeking asylum on the basis of oppression for their bisexual tendencies have
significantly higher rejection rates compared to other claimants.
To investigate this assertion, Rehaag uses the queer theory as the main theoretical framework.
According to Rehaag, the Queer theory is an interdisciplinary medium that examines the complex
interactions between sexuality and gender, and conceptualizes such views of sexual orientation as
essentialist. The essentialist view dichotomizes individuals as being either straight or gay on the basis
of early childhood psychological factors or biological traits. Consequently, this essentialist argument
comprehends sexual orientation as unchangeable and inflexible. Essentialists may, in selected
instances, acknowledge groups beyond gay and straight, such as transgendered and bisexual
individuals. Queer theorists reject the essentialist view arguing that these categories are not inflexible.
Rather, these categories are regularly recreated through socio historical patterns or structured social
exchanges. Consequently, the queer theory

Ways People Respond To Conflict Essay
People respond to conflict in many ways. A few such ways include responding to conflict through
lying, deception, and caving in to survive. These are the cases with Diary of Anne Frank. and HItler
youth.
Lying is one way people deal with conflict. Why wouldn t it be. An example would be from the Diary
of Anne Frank. The Diary is in the point of view of a young girl and her family hiding from the Nazis.
She details her experiences in the annex as well as her thoughts and feelings of herself and others
around her. Essentially, Anne and her family lie to the government and neighbors. There have even
been many times when the Nazis have lied. They have lied to Jews by telling them they would be
taking showers and killed them. Lying seems normal in situations of conflict. People may lie to save
themselves or to save others. People may also lie to achieve a sort of goal, whether it be good or bad.
It seems to be a very common way of responding to conflict.
Deception falls into a similar, if not the same, category of lying. It is a trick or scheme to get what you
want. Again the example of this would be when Anne and her family hid in the annex. This, like I said
before, was to escape the Nazis and concentration camps. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Instead he locked eyes with the boy behind him, who grinned deviously and stared at the fallen paper

Mycroft couldn t refuse how could he ignore that huge, boyish smile? He couldn t detect any malice

was then that Mycroft made the extremely rare decision to go along with what ever this stranger was

Hi, I m Greg, with a comical smiley face next to it.
Mycroft turned around again, and shot him a look that had sent a few students in the past running,
desperate to keep up his iceman façade in front of this devilishly handsome stranger. Mycroft, he

Clearly not put off by his callous demeanour, Greg tucked a loose strand of hair behind his ear and

Hey, do you want to get coffee after this? It s on me.

The Hound Of The Baskervilles By Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Literature has been the gateway to imagination and curiosity of the human mind. It enables people to
see the world through the perspective of another. As one dives deeper into a novel, they begin a
journey through each page of an experience like no other. While literature is ultimately just written
words on a page, one can visualize themselves in a totally different world, yet still be in the comfort of
their own home just by the power of imagination that is presented with a novel. Most specifically with
classic literature, it portrays life from the period in which it was written in but still stands the test in
time and has that timeless feel to it. A prime example of this category of literature is the mystery
novel, The Hound of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is without a doubt that these individual characters will permanently remain close to the hearts of
each reader in some way. For instance, the narrator in the story Dr. Watson has a true desire to impress
his superior partner Sherlock Holmes. However, on several occasions Watson is simply hidden in the
shadows of Holmes and is almost just left out of the detection despite his constant drive to prove he
can keep up with Holmes s intelligence. Though he is the detective s partner, Watson is often excluded
in Holmes s problem solving. In the quote I wanted to give up searching, but then I would have been
recognized as Holmes only weakness (Ch 4, Pg 37). Dr. Watson is struggling to solve the case but he
realizes if he does give up, he will be thought as the weak link between the pair and does not want to
let his partner down as well. Many readers can relate to this feeling of neglect or just not being good
enough at one point in their life. It is a very negative feeling and the reader can feel that sense of
sympathy and understanding for Watson s situation. In addition, the main protagonist Sherlock
Holmes is a very respected person in the novel and other characters do not even have the ability to
maintain simple conversation with him because of his intellectual dominance. However, in the quote,

Biochemical Techniques for the Extraction of Escherichia...
Modern biochemical study and analysis of nucleic acids have been heavily dominated by
electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction techniques, as the former allows for relatively
inexpensive and accessible resolution and visualization of nucleic acids according to basic chemical
properties such as molecular charge and weight, and the latter quickly increases the concentration of
nucleic acids, normally found in cells in minute amounts, to a level easily analyzed by modern
biochemical techniques. These two techniques are therefore currently indispensable in dealing with
nucleic acids on a practical level, and are tools which should be present in every biologist s kit. This
study therefore attempts to elucidate the theoretical and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While ample plant and animal samples can be easily obtained, for bacterial samples such as E. coli,
they must be propagated first in culture in order to obtain the necessary amount of cells needed for the
DNA extraction process.
The extraction and purification of genomic DNA is essential as purified DNA serves as the starting
point for the amplification of a gene within the DNA via the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). First
and foremost, cell lysis or cell disruption must be done to release the cell contents to expose the DNA
within the organism, detergents, basic or high salt solutions will then be used for DNA purification by
dissociating other biomolecules such as proteins and lipids. DNA will finally be isolated through the
use of organic reagents and centrifugation to facilitate collection of the precipitated DNA.
Prior to the experiment, materials to be used were sterilized to prevent contamination, which may later
on affect the results as contaminants may react with the solutions to be used for the later procedures or
even damage the DNA samples. Autoclaving or the use of pressurized steam was utilized to sterilize
the materials as exposure to high temperatures normally causes damage to cytoplasmic membranes,
breakdown of ribosomes, irreversible enzyme denaturation and DNA strand breakage of bacterial
contaminants.
Due to the ability of nucleic acids to store genetic information which will later on encode for
necessary proteins, it is important to extract

Two Point Threshold Lab Report
In this experiment, the two point threshold, or smallest separation of two points of stimulation on the
skin that are perceived as two separate impressions of touch, was measured using the method of limits.
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the participant s two point threshold on their finger,
forearm, palm, and back. The identification of the stimulus is due to a variety of somatosensation
mechanoreceptors, meaning they sense touch in response to a mechanical stimulation or pressure,
which are located all over the body. When pressure is placed upon the epidermis (outermost layer of
skin), different receptors respond to that pressure which is felt through vibrations. There are four types
of mechanoreceptors: Merkel complexes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ascending trials for each body part, with the exception of the second trial of the forearm, did not
vary far from the mean threshold. When the second trial of forearm stimulation was given to the
participant, there was a point in time (near the middle of administration) in which the experimenter
accidentally placed the dial caliber tips onto the participant s skin at two separate times. This caused
the participant to report feeling the stimulus as separate earlier than she did in the first and third
forearm trials. Because of this error, the mean two point threshold of the forearm was not as reliable as
it could have been had there been no error in the deliverance of stimuli. The purpose of this lab was, in
fact, achieved and the participant s two point threshold means were calculated. The errors of this
experiment could have been avoided by utilizing computer/mechanical stimulation as opposed to a
dial caliper. Using a machine to administer the touch would ensure that the pressures as well as the
timing and placement of each tip on the caliber were exactly the same. It is also important to note that
the temperature of the dial caliber could have had an effect of the collection of data. At various points
throughout the experiment, the participant jumped at the chilling temperature of the metal caliber.
With each startle of the participant, the experimenter had to remove and then re place the stimulus
onto the participant s skin to attempt an accurate reading. In future experiments, it is important to
standardize the pressure and placement of the stimuli to record a more accurate data set. It may also be
helpful to eliminate the variable of temperature of the caliber to the best of one s ability. As a
continuation of this study, it may strike the experimenter as intriguing to add a variable such as

Surrogacy Should Not Be Market Inalienable
Commercial surrogacy is the process in which a woman is paid a fee to carry and deliver a baby to
term. Once the baby is delivered, the woman relinquishes all parental rights to the commissioning
couple who exclusively raise the child as their own. Altruistic surrogacy, by contrast, is an
arrangement where the surrogate receives reimbursement but only for the expenses that she may have
incurred during the pregnancy. In this essay I will argue that commercial surrogacy should not be
market inalienable. I will start by outlining Elizabeth Anderson s argument in Is Women s Labor a
Commodity? in which she offers a number of criticisms to commercial surrogacy. I will then outline
objections to the argument and highlight how her argument is highly speculative and does not provide
an adequate basis for the prohibition of commercial surrogacy.
The first argument that Anderson proposes is that commercial surrogacy turns women s labor, that is,
bearing and giving birth to the child, into alienated labor. She equates commercial surrogacy to
subcontracting work in manufacturing industries, making this parallel because the surrogate is
expected to treat her child like a final product with which she is expected to have no emotional bond
with. Anderson argues that one can expect the surrogates to develop an emotional bond with the child
regardless of the terms of the contract. Moreover, treating the pregnancy like another form of
commercial production violates the precious emotional

Essay on Horror Theories in Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2
Horror movies are based on humanity s disturbing, inner thoughts that are kept hidden by
sophisticated and civilized facades. The fact that people pay money to go watch their own race be
slaughtered shows that civilization has two sides. There are many theories as to why humans act the
way they do, such as Steven King s beast within and potential lyncher theories and Stanley Solomon s
exploration and romantic isolationism theories. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 does a fantastic
job of displaying these theories about the horror genre if one knows what they are looking for.

He also believed that since everybody is insane, insanity comes down to how insane someone is (785).
King s potential lyncher theory correlates with the beast within theory. This theory simply explains
that everyone has the potential to a masked murderer if they don t keep their dark sides tamed (785).
Stanley Solomon s exploration theory is a very well known theory in the horror genre. The theory is
the reasoning behind why characters in horror movies always act so irrationally and brainless. Why is
it that the defenseless girl always puts herself in a dangerous state by exploring? Sometimes it is ironic
that the victim is lurking around in a dangerous place because they have yet to be informed that a
monster is in their presence (795). Other times though, the victim explores even though they know
they are putting themselves in danger (795). As one watches these movies, they typically pity the
character. The fact that the viewer sympathizes the victim for acting so absurd tells humans something
about themselves. They want to explore as well (795). As audiences watch, they want to cover their
eyes in fear, but force themselves to watch the film anyways. Solomon predicts in his theory that
humans do this because the ultimate irrationality of this typical moment of horror in the nightmare
film represents our own subconscious desire to confront our inevitable dread: to meet death before we

The Pros And Cons Of Copyright Law
Part 1
1. What is copyright?
Answer:
Copyright is a manifestation of protection given to the authors or makers of original works of
authorship. Copyright law gifts authors and craftsmen the selective right to make and offer duplicates
of their works, the privilege to create subsidiary works, and the privilege to perform or presentation
their works freely. The copyright in a work of authorship quickly turns into the property of the author
who created it right now it is put into altered structure. Nobody yet the author can claim copyright to
the work, unless the author awards rights to others in a composed understanding, for example, to the
author s distributer or record organization. Generally, we can tell who the author of a work is the
individual who created it. Anyway some of the time, it is not exactly that simple.
2. Copyright is automatic when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This does not encroach the copyright owner s selective distribution rights. This was accordingly
systematized in Copyright Act of 1976. In the connection of licenses, this law says that a buyer of a
licensed article has the right to use, repair, and exchange the article with no obstruction from the
patentee. The patentee may at present hold control of the article through terms in the permit or sale
contract.
8. What is attribution as it pertains to copyright?
Answer:
The act of attributing particularly the act of securing a specific individual; as the inventor of a works is
lies under the cases of copyright. As sometimes people think that they can use the copyrighted work
by just putting a reference of the author/owner of the work. But it is not sufficient; individuals who
want to use any type of copyrighted work; they have to get permission from the author/owner.

Jesse Debenport s Poem Hey Daddy
Loss, glumness, and hurt have you read the poem Hey Daddy ? Jesse Debenport expresses extensive

left the family, but intends to still have a relationship with his son. First, I believe the father left
because the way Jesse expresses his emotions makes me infer that his father can still return, but it s a
little uncomfortable to go back to a family that he left. In the poem, Hey Daddy (Please Come Back)
By Jesse Debenport, Jesse states with strong desire, I ll try and set aside at least one day a week... So
we can hop in the truck and go four wheeling. This shows me that Jesse s father is still alive because a
dead father can t go four wheeling anywhere. This also tells me that his father can still come back, if
they can still go four wheeling together. Jesse also states, Remind me to give you a hug goodnight I

his father to return. People might believe that his father died, but it doesn t add up. Jesse told his father
his feelings and seems to intend for him to read his letter, and there are no mailboxes at gravesites. It
also can t be an emotional letter just to express himself because Jesse talks about asking his father to
spend time with him. This all shows that his father can t be

For instance, if a learner is acting as a singer, she brings a microphone to sing and so on. Role plays

Second, as Harmer (2001, p. 275) suggests, they increase the self confidence of hesitant learners,
because in role play and simulation activities, they will have a different role and do not have to speak

The relative successes and failures of that Act are becoming more apparent with time, and the
shortcomings are subject to intense partisan criticism. As discussed below, Dodd Frank seeks to
address the highly sensitive and controversial notion that Wall Street banks have been designated by
the Federal Reserve as too big to fail. In fact, during the most severe moments of the crisis, the voices
of free market proponents could be heard advocating that these troubled big banks, suffering massive
losses due to their own bad bets, and if weakened to the point of failure, should be allowed to fail.
Hindsight shows that allowing just one to fail, Lehman Brothers, had serious and lasting detrimental
effect on the US and global financial system and markets. Had Lehman been saved, it would have
been the most effective agent to unwind all of the transactions and trades to which it was a party, and
likely in a rapid manner. However, being thrust into bankruptcy, and thereafter receivers were
appointed to unwind the business, took months upon months and vast resources to settle Lehman
accounts. Had Citibank, Bank of America, Bear Stearns, or AIG been allowed to fail, it may have been
possible that the US financial system would have melted down completely. So these super banks, and
non banks, cannot be allowed to fail in crisis, due to the system wide risk. Notwithstanding, such an
implicit assurance, that they will always get a bailout, no matter how toxic

The Road Not Taken Metaphors
Decision making is a common component in everyday life. When a person makes a decision, they
consider their options, reach a resolution, then commit to them. But as time passes, there are those
who regret their choice and wish to go back to change their decision, while some people are satisfied
with their chosen path. In Robert Frost s poem The Road Not Taken , the author describes a decision
making process between traveling down one road or the other. Throughout the poem, Frost uses
several poetic devices, including metaphor and enjambment, to help bring his theme across: it s
important to make the best possible decision because it can only be made once, in a way that
encourages readers to think before they act.

Maslow vs. Mcgregor
Backgrounds
Douglas McGregor was a management professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He
introduced a new motivational theory in his book The Human Side of Enterprise , stating that all
workers were divided into two groups: Theory X and Theory Y. Theory X workers were lazy,
irrational and unreliable, and were only motivated by money and threatened by punishment. Theory Y
workers were able to seek and accept responsibilities and fulfil any goals given.
The Human Side of Enterprise, written my McGregor in 1960, was voted the fourth most influential
management book of the 20th century by the Fellows of the Academy of Management. The ideas and

Social needs acquired by such employees include love, acceptance and belonging. They must feel
accepted and a sense of worthiness before they can work up to fulfilling other, more difficult needs.
The esteem level on Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs is the need for appreciation and respect. After the
other levels of needs have been fulfilled, the esteem needs begin to play a prominent role in
motivating behaviour. Theory Y employees will be motivated to gain respect in their organisation by
achieving company objectives and by showing management their skills and abilities. The top need
desired by such employees is self actualisation. Maslow himself said;
What a man can be, he must be
What he meant by this is that people must achieve their full potential as human beings and that
nothing else is worth more that becoming the best you can be. Theory Y employees spend their
working lives striving for self actualisation, which is the ultimate source of motivation. It stimulates
the desire for more once experienced.
Contrasts
Although Maslow and McGregor are thinking alike, as I mentioned earlier, The Human Side of
Enterprise makes no concrete references to Maslow s theories. He doesn t seem to recognise the
condition of lower level needs to be met for people to aspire to those of higher level. McGregor
simply separates workers into different groups

nearby discotheques. For more than a decade Berlin has been synonymous with the idea of a city that
never sleeps with its concrete corridors ever shifting to the beat of its own drum. However in the
recent years, Berlin s cultural scene has begun to branch off from this history of debauchery as
inhabitants of the city have begun to innovate and modernize in ways radically different from its
conventional past. Originally Germany was a nation founded in the economic viability of perfecting
and improving the technology and services of their predecessors. For much of their economic history,
this policy has proved to be extremely cost effective, as Germany has quickly risen to the top of the
European Union with a steady and contained growth rate. However with the mounting rise of
globalization, Germany has begun to find itself at an economic crossroads of sorts, as their methods of
layered improvement on existing technologies can longer compete with the long term effectiveness of
pure technical innovation abroad. As a result, this has led to birth of a nascent startup culture within

Cataract Term Papers
What is Cataract? Cataract is known as a build up of protein clouding the eye lens which distorts or
blocks the light entering the eye. When new lens cells form on the outside of the lens, all older cells
are compacted into the center of the lens which therefore causes Cataract. Cataract can be partial or
complete, stationary or progressive, hard or soft. There are 3 types of cataract known as Nuclear
Sclerosis, Cortical Cataracts, Posterior Subcapsular cataracts. But the most common type of cataract is
Nuclear sclerosis. Which involves in the central part of the lens. Sclerotic is due to the condensation of
the lens nucleus which deposition of brown pigment within the lens. Cataract can be first presenting

Ku Klan And Ku Klux Klan
Ku Klux Klan 2
Abstract
The Ku Klux Klan was formed in Tennessee during December, 1865. They were originally made by
former confederate soldiers to keep balance in society. After their job was done they went years
without being heard of again. This time they grew in popularity and used their power to intimidate
others to get their way. They killed and harassed many people.
After years of destruction beginning from the late 1800 s all the way through mid 1900 s, they lost
their power. There are still many small Klans heard of today, but less extreme.
Ku Klux Klan 3
Ku Klux Klan
The Ku Klux Klan is known today as one of the most hated terrorist groups in
American history. They began as a group to do good and help others, but as they grew in popularity
good becomes terrorism. After many years of this groups massive destruction, they slowly subside.
Although the terrorism has ended, there are still groups today with multiple cases of discrimination
towards other races. Creation of Klan In December of 1865, a group of six former Confederate
veterans founded the first branch of the Ku Klux Klan as a social club in Pulaski, Tennessee, in 1866.
Ku Klux supposedly derived from the Greek word kyklos. 1 Another member then added Klan to tie
the name together ( Ku Klux Klan , 2001, para. 3). In the summer of 1867, local branches of the Klan
met in a general organizing convention and established what they called an Invisible Empire of

A Historical Framework For The Contemporary Racial Of Mexico
With the recent discovery of 1.38 million Afro Mexicans based on a population survey conducted in
2015, two central questions have emerged surrounding the presence of Mexicans with African
ancestry in Mexico (Quartz). First, why were nearly 1.4 million Afro Mexicans not recognized in
Mexico s population census by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, which began data
collection of Mexican citizens in 1983 (Colorlines)? Secondly, how has their lack of representation at
the national level impacted them geographically?
Throughout this paper, I will answer the aforementioned questions by establishing a historical
framework for the contemporary racial ideologies in Mexico rooted in Spanish colonial legacies. By
providing this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, I will outline the static nature of Afro Mexican identity through an analysis of the
popular cartoon Memin Penguin. I will explain how this stagnant representation of Mexican blackness
isolates the Costa Chica of Guerrero from other spaces in Mexico. I will conclude by addressing why
this topic is significant to my scholarship as a student and what I hope further scholarly investigation
will uncover.
Before I unpack social racism in Mexico, it is important to distinguish two key points for reading this
paper. First, I use the terms African or Africanness and black or blackness interchangeably to represent
specifically Afro Mexicans in the Costa Chica of Guerrero who identify racially as black. Secondly,
white is used to distinguish White Mexicans while mestizo[s] signifies racially mixed Mexicans with
predominantly Spanish European and Indigenous Amerindian ancestry (Jerry). Mexico s Social
Racism
In order to understand how 1.38 million Afro Mexicans have remained hidden, I must first recount
their origins in Mexico dating back to the Spanish colonial era. During the 16th and 17th century,
100,000 250,000 African slaves were forcibly transported to New Spain to work on the sugarcane
plantations (Githiora). Most arrived at the Veracruz Port in South Central Mexico along the Gulf Coast
in what is now known as the

Bilingualism And Bilingualism
According to a 2006 European Commission survey, 56% of respondents said they could speak a
language other than their mother tongue. In many countries, the proportion of bilinguals is much
higher. For example, 99% of Luxembourg and 95% of Latvian populations speak more than one
language. Even in the United States, where English is pre dominantly used as a single language, a
large number of people using non English languages at home have increased by 140% since 1980.
Thus, bilingualism is an extensive cultural, linguistic, and cognitive phenomenon that is extensively
carried out in modern society. Bilingualism bridges the understanding of the world around us,
communicating with others, promoting the sharing of cultural phenomena. Many ... Show more

In many studies, bilingual learners brain can have better attentiveness and the ability to switch tasks
than a mono lingual learner s brain because of their cognitive ability to control to suppress one
language while using another language or switch from one language to another language
simultaneously. Bilingualism also positively affects learners academic progress (Saer, D. J. 1923).
Moreover, studies on bilingual language processing have shown that when bilingual speakers, listen
to, read, or produce sentences, linguistic competency in both languages is activated, even when the
speaker uses one language (Kroll, J. F., Bobb, S. C., Hoshino, N. (2014). This cross language
activation can be detected in both beginners and highly skilled bilinguals and can be found at various
levels of language processing system, such as lexicon, phonology, and grammar. In particular,
cognitive research on bilingualism suggests that a bilingual speaker s second language, which is not
used in word recognition and language production, is being suppressed and the language that tends to
be self controlled is the native language of the speaker, not the second foreign language, implying that
the native language is indeed compromised to accommodate the second language. The control system
used to cognitively prohibit and switch languages is a control system commonly used for

Kern s Musical Innovations
Further, Kern s innovations in music also consisted of experimenting with different types of songs and
new instrument usage. As early as 1913 he suggested to his orchestrator, Frank Saddler (or acquiesced
in Saddler s suggestion), that saxophones be used in the pit band for Oh, I Say! Although recent
musical research has identified these instruments as the smaller European variety rather than the
standard American jazz instrument, this use of the saxophone was new (Bordman). He also
experimented with many of his songs that deviated from the traditional style of musical theatre forms
and repetition in songs. Harmonic innovations were usually confined to the verse of a song but
experiments with form and style are not that unusual in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Kern s music along with various collaborators lyrics set the mold for the cohesive story in musical
theatre, which included, not only lyrics that advanced the plot and related to the scene at hand, but
musical interludes by Kern that often repeated in a new song in the musical to connect the story. These
productions, Nobody Home, Very Good Eddie, Oh Boy!, and Oh Lady! Lady!!, were distinguished by
a new approach to musical theater, developed by Kern in collaboration with librettist Guy Bolton, and,
beginning in 1917, the talents of lyricist P.G. Wodehouse (Gale Research). Aside from the fact that the
overall format for musical theatre had changed, thanks in part to Kern, it was the idea of
characterization in song that really brought the modern musicals we see today to life. Kern s
exquisitely flowing melodies were employed to further the action or develop characterization. The
integration of song and story is periodically announced as a breakthrough in our musical theaters
(Bordman). Before this innovation, early musical plays and minstrel shows often threw songs in at
random points, hardly relating it to the scenes at hand, moving along the plot, or revealing information
about the characters lives. The musical revue format, with unrelated numbers strung together, was

Introduction
Transit oriented development (TOD) is a mixed use residential or commercial area intended to
maximize access to public transportation. Such neighborhoods often consist of a center with a public
transit station, bounded by high density growth with gradually lower density development spreading
outward from the center. TODs or transit zones are typically located within a radius of one half mile
from a transit station, as this is generally considered a reasonable walking distance for pedestrians.
However, geographic proximity alone does not make development transit oriented. Indeed, many
developments can be said to be transit adjacent (i.e. within close physical proximity to transit) but not
necessarily designed to promote access and use. On contrary, TOD creates a thrilling community
centered on transit access and reduced automobile dependence. As such, a pedestrian friendly
environment is critical to TOD, but is not essential to transit adjacent development. ... Show more

So , they discourage a person s self dependency and endorse transit use, thereby enabling traffic
crowding, improving air quality, and limiting carbon discharges. A TOD neighborhood
characteristically has a center with a train station, metro station, tram stop, or bus stop, enclosed by
comparatively high density development with increasingly lower density development spreading away

Code Switching Essay
In this world, there are a lot of languages used to communicate. Nation and cultural diversity are a
source of variation in the languages. The diversity of the language used by a particular group is a
factor of the occurrence of bilingualism. According to Grosjean (1984, p. 1) bilingualism is the use of
two or more languages. The proficiency of bilingualism may vary depending on the exposure to the
other users of language and opportunities to use the language. It is one of the factors of replacement of
the language. This phenomenon known as code switching, it can occur as a whole, the incorporating
elements of other languages in the language being used, or the turn of a variation of a language. Based
on Poplack (1980) theory code switching is the alternation of two languages within a single discourse,
sentence or constituent. Garrett (2010, p. 11) said that code switching is the most powerful feature of
informal communication. Code switching happens when speakers speak in one language into another
language as example when they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the presence of the use of mother tongue (L1) it shows the lack of teachers incredibility and
capability (Labov, 1971, cited in Hughes, Shauness, and Brice, 2006). Linawati (2015, p. 2) also felt a
disadvantage of using code switching in classrooms, she stated that the teachers are not creating
appropriate atmosphere and encouraging the students interest in learning English. In contrast from
socio cultural perspective, the presence of code switched communication in EFL classrooms
encourages capability of using both languages effectively and creative language use (Dahl, Rice,
Steffensen, Amundsen, 2010). As for the students attitude based on Suganda (2012) and Hamied
(2014) studies reveal that students have a positive attitude towards the use of code switching in EFL
classrooms. They feel code switching is one of the effective language learning

Examples Of Secular Humanism
Secular Humanism
What is Secular Humanism? Well I will be describing it to you throughout this essay. Secular
Humanism is basically a humanist way of thinking. This idea revolves around people believing in a
naturalist type world where people don t believe in a higher power to solve problems. It is mostly
about human reasoning, social justice, and naturalism where you make calls and judgments based on
what you think is right and wrong and not what someone else said in a book.
Now for the definitions gathered from multiple books. The first definition, Any set of moral principles
or school of moral philosophy whose values do not derive from religion or believe in the supernatural,
from the resource book titled, Ethics Revised Edition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, we have the different labels that are tagged with Secular humanism. There are many
different names for this particular idea simply because there are so many versions all over the world,
but here are a few that I have noticed while reading through book after book. There are names like,
Naturalist [which I have used above a few times], Anti Religion, Non Theism, Atheism, Agnosticism,
Theism, Freethought, and many others from different countries. Depending on how people live their
life as a Secular Humanist they have either more intense or less intense names for those whom are
willing to give themselves that title.
Lastly, we get to the examples of Secular Humanism. There are actually a lot more people who were
Secular Humanists then I thought, but I don t know them all without looking it up on the internet so I
ll just list the ones that are mentioned in Paul Kurtz book What is Secular Humanism? Here are the
people Kurtz listed in his book from history, Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Galileo, Giordano Bruno,
David Hume, Voltaire, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Michel de Montaigne, Gianozzo, Manetti,
Marsilio Ficino, Giovanni Pico della Mirandola, Bertand Russell, John Dewey, Simone de Beauvoir,
Jean Paul Sartre, and many others. All of these people were either scientists or philosophers in some
shape or form. So, throughout history we have had a lot

Public Shame And Social Media
Remember when what is now called publicity was called public shame and humiliation? (P.J. O
Rourke). The act of public shaming has been around for centuries shifting from scaffold gatherings to
hateful social media posts. This tradition being kept alive after all of this time is used purely for the
profit of the shamer. With each post comes more agony and dread for the person being shamed and
more enjoyment to the people shaming. This vicious cycle has not changed much from the onlookers
at the scaffold to the bystanders of social media who do nothing but allow for this tradition to keep
growing. The age old tradition of public shame has become like reality show engaging people in the
dire consequences of the person being shamed and their growing feelings of desolation. Public shame
directly leads to dire consequences for the person being shamed. In the article Is the Internet a Mob
Without Consequence? , Ms. Sacco who put up a negatively received tweet was fired from her job
after all the backlash came out over it. The article states Within hours, people threatened rape, shoot,
kill and torture her. The mob found her Facebook and Instagram accounts and began threatening the
same perils on photos she had posted of friends and family, (Bilton 5). Even though she had made a
mistake and tweeted something bad, she was the one who lost her job when the people who humiliated
and threatened her get to keep theirs. These people were just as wrong, but did not nearly receive

The Pros And Cons Of Public-Private Partnership Practice
Public Private Partnership (PPP) practice has been increasingly prevalent in modern infrastructure
delivery and public service provision, such as in transportation, electric power, waste management,
health care, and other industries (Broadbent and Iaughlin, 2004; Essig and Batran, 2005; Hodge and
Greve, 2007; Wang, 2015; Zhang et al., 2015). Popularity of PPPs is mainly attributed to some
inherent efficiency advantages (Grimsey and Lewis, 2007; Hart, 2003; Yang and Wang, 2013). Unlike
conventional public procurement, PPP takes an integration of financing, construction, operation and
maintenance that granted to private sector. This internalizes previous stage s external effect to
subsequent one, since the private is responsible for the additional ... Show more content on

While in an uncertain environment, it is almost impossible to accurately forecast all contingencies in

adverse influence of external environment. This suggests that effective governance on PPPs should

This quote by Jonas Salk, the researcher who invented the polio vaccine in the height of the polio scare, demonstrates the natural resistance people have to patents on biological agents. If society can grant individuals or small groups of individuals the exclusive rights to the production and use of biological agents in the form of a patent, the morality of such patents must be taken into consideration. David Resnik s adaption of Marx s theories of economic exploitation to a biomedical setting can be used to determine whether biological patents are moral. Together, they granted Columbia University the exclusive rights to an important technique in biotechnology and pharmacology which, allows foreign DNA to be inserted into a host cell to produce certain proteins . The university earned almost $800 million through the licensing of these patents to various companies and institutions. For A to exploit B, as per Resnik s definitions, there must exist an A and B. So let A, the exploiting party, be Columbia and let B, the exploited party, be the academic institutions and the private companies that wish to use the technique described in the patents to further medicine. A did indeed take an advantage over B with the advantage being the university discovered the technique before any institutions discovered that same technique or a technique very similar to what Richard Axel discovered. A used this advantage of having the discovery first to harm B financially by suing any institution in B for their use of Axel s techniques without the proper license. So A exploited B. A cannot morally justify this exploitation because any financial gain A received from exerting control of their patents gets canceled out by that equal financial loss of B. Furthermore, A does not gain any productivity from enforcing their exclusive rights to the patents but B loses productivity for having to apply for the licensing or not being able to attain licensing for the technique so there is a net loss for A and B. Essay about Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare In Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra, the presentation and development of the relationships among the triumvirs, Caesar, Antony and Lepidus becomes a pivotal concern. As the play progresses, the dynamics of the triumvirate changes and becomes more complicated, providing the audience with the main political conflict that sometimes overshadows the romance of the title characters in the play. Shakespeare provides the audience with several different images of the triumvirate through different characters. By the end of Act I Scene I, the audience sees two Roman soldiers, speaking with disappointment of their once great general, Mark Antony, who has turned into a strumpet s fool . Apparently enough, Antony s disregard towards the messengers from Rome, which prompts Demetrius to say Is Caesar with Antonius prized so slight? is an indication to the possible collapse of the triumvirate. Philo s comment, sometimes when he is not Antony he comes too short of that great property which still should go with Antony displays clearly Antony s failure in his duty as one of the three emperors. The servants, on the contrary recognize Lepidus s failure in playing his role as a peace maker among the members of the triumvirate. He is compared to a reed and does not live up his position and compares his effectiveness to the holes where eyes should be . It becomes clear that the relationships among the members of the triumvirs is a cause for attention as we are introduced by Philo to Antony s disregard for Caesar s messages and Lepidus s failure in his effort at peacemaking. The supposed strength of this union is subjected to doubts and reservations as unity among the members is deficient. Shakespeare also presents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, think about what would happen if the Plastic Products Division received a disproportionately high level of funding because their returns exceed the company hurdle rates (its growth rate substantially exceeds the corporate average). Today, the food system is dominated by the industrial farms and food companies. The industrial food system prevents us from knowing the food. We do not know where the food comes from, how it is produced, and what the conditions that animals live in are. Animals, such as cattle and chickens, are raised in concentrated feedlots where the conditions are terrible and the space is narrow. When it comes to the meatpacking, we do not know how the animals are slaughtered, gutted, and skinned. The operations are invisible and conducted behind walls. Aging Out of the Foster Care System According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, every year close to 25,000 youth age out of the foster care system and are faced with cold hard realities of adulthood. This does not include the youth who leave the system, which is estimated to be another 30,000. Most adolescents anticipate their eighteenth birthday, as it brings on a new found sense of independence and most importantly a time of celebration. However when foster children reach eighteen, they begin facing the challenges of transitioning to adulthood. These children disproportionately join the ranks of the homeless, incarcerated, and unemployed. These youth are unprepared for the independent life they are forced to take on. The average age that young adults who have never experienced foster care leave their family home for good is 24, and 40% return home again at least once afterwards (Margolin, 2008). With these facts being stated, we yet expect youth who has dealt with rejection after rejection to leave home of the state custody permanently and fin for themselves. These youth sometimes have fewer than $250 in cash, only one third have drivers licenses, and fewer than one quarter have the basic tools to set up a household, let alone the skills to know what to do with the tools (Krinsky, 2010). • 14. The Theme Of The Lesson Before Dying There are many points to consider in creation of a good story that will capture and deliver the main idea to the audience. The most important of all those points is the setting physical location and time in the story. For example, if the author writes a story about polar bears but set it in South America, the story would not go along with the plot, losing its ability to create a clear message for the audience; Or if the story doesn t have setting, its characters are simply in a vacuum with no reason to act and develop the main idea. In the story, The Lesson before dying by Ernest J. Gaines, the setting creates the central idea because it sets the basis for the main theme, the characters who develop the idea and actions within their environment to reflect the issues of the story. The setting is a physical location of events, while the central idea is the main thoughts that author want the reader to remember the most. The Lesson before Dying is a fictional work about injustice and discrimination of blacks. To emphasize the theme, the author set the story in the city where the history of segregation between races is very obvious. The narrator, Grant Wiggins, describes his town as a place that is divided in two parts: whites and blacks. From being manipulated and deceived, this manages to bring about an ability hidden within oneself that can only be triggered by experiencing what it is like to be a victim of deception. In A Doll s House by Henrik Ibsen and As You Like It by William Shakespeare, each author entraps their protagonists with the role of being manipulative or the victim of being manipulated to further enhance the author s purpose of revealing or unlocking the hidden potential that arose within the characters. • 18. Essentialist Theory Of The Queer Theory sexuality often impacts the success of claims made by bi sexual refugees. The author argues that this dominant understanding jettisons complex subjective positions and disregards varying realities. The refugee determination system misinterprets and misidentifies the lived experiences of bisexual claimants because of this knowledge, further disadvantaging this group of refugees. Rehaag observes that individuals seeking asylum on the basis of oppression for their bisexual tendencies have significantly higher rejection rates compared to other claimants. To investigate this assertion, Rehaag uses the queer theory as the main theoretical framework. According to Rehaag, the Queer theory is an interdisciplinary medium that examines the complex interactions between sexuality and gender, and conceptualizes such views of sexual orientation as essentialist. The essentialist view dichotomizes individuals as being either straight or gay on the basis of early childhood psychological factors or biological traits. Consequently, this essentialist argument comprehends sexual orientation as unchangeable and inflexible. Essentialists may, in selected instances, acknowledge groups beyond gay and straight, such as transgendered and bisexual individuals. Queer theorists reject the essentialist view arguing that these categories are not inflexible. Rather, these categories are regularly recreated through socio historical patterns or structured social exchanges. Consequently, the queer theory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It enables people to see the world through the perspective of another. As one dives deeper into a novel, they begin a journey through each page of an experience like no other. While literature is ultimately just written words on a page, one can visualize themselves in a totally different world, yet still be in the comfort of their own home just by the power of imagination that is presented with a novel. Most specifically with classic literature, it portrays life from the period in which it was written in but still stands the test in time and has that timeless feel to it. • 25. Biochemical Techniques for the Extraction of Escherichia... Modern biochemical study and analysis of nucleic acids have been heavily dominated by electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction techniques, as the former allows for relatively inexpensive and accessible resolution and visualization of nucleic acids according to basic chemical properties such as molecular charge and weight, and the latter quickly increases the concentration of nucleic acids, normally found in cells in minute amounts, to a level easily analyzed by modern biochemical techniques. These two techniques are therefore currently indispensable in dealing with nucleic acids on a practical level, and are tools which should be present in every biologist s kit. This study therefore attempts to elucidate the theoretical and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While ample plant and animal samples can be easily obtained, for bacterial samples such as E. coli, they must be propagated first in culture in order to obtain the necessary amount of cells needed for the DNA extraction process. The extraction and purification of genomic DNA is essential as purified DNA serves as the starting point for the amplification of a gene within the DNA via the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). First and foremost, cell lysis or cell disruption must be done to release the cell contents to expose the DNA within the organism, detergents, basic or high salt solutions will then be used for DNA purification by dissociating other biomolecules such as proteins and lipids. DNA will finally be isolated through the use of organic reagents and centrifugation to facilitate collection of the precipitated DNA. Prior to the experiment, materials to be used were sterilized to prevent contamination, which may later on affect the results as contaminants may react with the solutions to be used for the later procedures or even damage the DNA samples. Autoclaving or the use of pressurized steam was utilized to sterilize the materials as exposure to high temperatures normally causes damage to cytoplasmic membranes, breakdown of ribosomes, irreversible enzyme denaturation and DNA strand breakage of bacterial contaminants. • 26. Two Point Threshold Lab Report In this experiment, the two point threshold, or smallest separation of two points of stimulation on the skin that are perceived as two separate impressions of touch, was measured using the method of limits. The purpose of this experiment was to determine the participant s two point threshold on their finger, forearm, palm, and back. The identification of the stimulus is due to a variety of somatosensation mechanoreceptors, meaning they sense touch in response to a mechanical stimulation or pressure, which are located all over the body. When pressure is placed upon the epidermis (outermost layer of skin), different receptors respond to that pressure which is felt through vibrations. There are four types of mechanoreceptors: Merkel complexes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ascending trials for each body part, with the exception of the second trial of the forearm, did not vary far from the mean threshold. When the second trial of forearm stimulation was given to the participant, there was a point in time (near the middle of administration) in which the experimenter accidentally placed the dial caliber tips onto the participant s skin at two separate times. This caused the participant to report feeling the stimulus as separate earlier than she did in the first and third forearm trials. Because of this error, the mean two point threshold of the forearm was not as reliable as it could have been had there been no error in the deliverance of stimuli. The purpose of this lab was, in fact, achieved and the participant s two point threshold means were calculated. The errors of this experiment could have been avoided by utilizing computer/mechanical stimulation as opposed to a dial caliper. Using a machine to administer the touch would ensure that the pressures as well as the timing and placement of each tip on the caliber were exactly the same. It is also important to note that the temperature of the dial caliber could have had an effect of the collection of data. At various points throughout the experiment, the participant jumped at the chilling temperature of the metal caliber. With each startle of the participant, the experimenter had to remove and then re place the stimulus onto the participant s skin to attempt an accurate reading. In future experiments, it is important to standardize the pressure and placement of the stimuli to record a more accurate data set. It may also be helpful to eliminate the variable of temperature of the caliber to the best of one s ability. • 27. Surrogacy Should Not Be Market Inalienable Commercial surrogacy is the process in which a woman is paid a fee to carry and deliver a baby to term. Once the baby is delivered, the woman relinquishes all parental rights to the commissioning couple who exclusively raise the child as their own. Altruistic surrogacy, by contrast, is an arrangement where the surrogate receives reimbursement but only for the expenses that she may have incurred during the pregnancy. In this essay I will argue that commercial surrogacy should not be market inalienable. I will start by outlining Elizabeth Anderson s argument in Is Women s Labor a Commodity? in which she offers a number of criticisms to commercial surrogacy. I will then outline objections to the argument and highlight how her argument is highly speculative and does not provide an adequate basis for the prohibition of commercial surrogacy. The first argument that Anderson proposes is that commercial surrogacy turns women s labor, that is, bearing and giving birth to the child, into alienated labor. She equates commercial surrogacy to subcontracting work in manufacturing industries, making this parallel because the surrogate is expected to treat her child like a final product with which she is expected to have no emotional bond with. Anderson argues that one can expect the surrogates to develop an emotional bond with the child regardless of the terms of the contract. Moreover, treating the pregnancy like another form of commercial production violates the precious emotional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stanley Solomon s exploration theory is a very well known theory in the horror genre. The theory is the reasoning behind why characters in horror movies always act so irrationally and brainless. Why is it that the defenseless girl always puts herself in a dangerous state by exploring? Sometimes it is ironic that the victim is lurking around in a dangerous place because they have yet to be informed that a monster is in their presence (795). Other times though, the victim explores even though they know they are putting themselves in danger (795). As one watches these movies, they typically pity the character. The fact that the viewer sympathizes the victim for acting so absurd tells humans something about themselves. They want to explore as well (795). As audiences watch, they want to cover their eyes in fear, but force themselves to watch the film anyways. Solomon predicts in his theory that humans do this because the ultimate irrationality of this typical moment of horror in the nightmare film represents our own subconscious desire to confront our inevitable dread: to meet death before we really ... Copyright law gifts authors and craftsmen the selective right to make and offer duplicates of their works, the privilege to create subsidiary works, and the privilege to perform or presentation their works freely. In fact, during the most severe moments of the crisis, the voices of free market proponents could be heard advocating that these troubled big banks, suffering massive losses due to their own bad bets, and if weakened to the point of failure, should be allowed to fail. After years of destruction beginning from the late 1800 s all the way through mid 1900 s, they lost their power. There are still many small Klans heard of today, but less extreme. Ku Klux Klan 3 Ku Klux Klan The Ku Klux Klan is known today as one of the most hated terrorist groups in American history. They began as a group to do good and help others, but as they grew in popularity good becomes terrorism. After many years of this groups massive destruction, they slowly subside. Although the terrorism has ended, there are still groups today with multiple cases of discrimination towards other races. Creation of Klan In December of 1865, a group of six former Confederate veterans founded the first branch of the Ku Klux Klan as a social club in Pulaski, Tennessee, in 1866. Ku Klux supposedly derived from the Greek word kyklos. 1 Another member then added Klan to tie the name together ( Ku Klux Klan , 2001, para. 3). In the summer of 1867, local branches of the Klan met in a general organizing convention and established what they called an Invisible Empire of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. A Historical Framework For The Contemporary Racial Of Mexico With the recent discovery of 1.38 million Afro Mexicans based on a population survey conducted in 2015, two central questions have emerged surrounding the presence of Mexicans with African ancestry in Mexico (Quartz). First, why were nearly 1.4 million Afro Mexicans not recognized in Mexico s population census by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, which began data collection of Mexican citizens in 1983 (Colorlines)? Secondly, how has their lack of representation at the national level impacted them geographically? Throughout this paper, I will answer the aforementioned questions by establishing a historical framework for the contemporary racial ideologies in Mexico rooted in Spanish colonial legacies. By providing this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, I will outline the static nature of Afro Mexican identity through an analysis of the popular cartoon Memin Penguin. I will explain how this stagnant representation of Mexican blackness isolates the Costa Chica of Guerrero from other spaces in Mexico. I will conclude by addressing why this topic is significant to my scholarship as a student and what I hope further scholarly investigation will uncover. Before I unpack social racism in Mexico, it is important to distinguish two key points for reading this paper. First, I use the terms African or Africanness and black or blackness interchangeably to represent specifically Afro Mexicans in the Costa Chica of Guerrero who identify racially as black. Secondly, white is used to distinguish White Mexicans while mestizo[s] signifies racially mixed Mexicans with predominantly Spanish European and Indigenous Amerindian ancestry (Jerry). Mexico s Social Racism In order to understand how 1.38 million Afro Mexicans have remained hidden, I must first recount their origins in Mexico dating back to the Spanish colonial era. During the 16th and 17th century, 100,000 250,000 African slaves were forcibly transported to New Spain to work on the sugarcane plantations (Githiora). Most arrived at the Veracruz Port in South Central Mexico along the Gulf Coast in what is now known as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Bilingualism And Bilingualism According to a 2006 European Commission survey, 56% of respondents said they could speak a language other than their mother tongue. In many countries, the proportion of bilinguals is much higher. For example, 99% of Luxembourg and 95% of Latvian populations speak more than one language. Even in the United States, where English is pre dominantly used as a single language, a large number of people using non English languages at home have increased by 140% since 1980. Thus, bilingualism is an extensive cultural, linguistic, and cognitive phenomenon that is extensively carried out in modern society. Bilingualism bridges the understanding of the world around us, communicating with others, promoting the sharing of cultural phenomena. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In many studies, bilingual learners brain can have better attentiveness and the ability to switch tasks than a mono lingual learner s brain because of their cognitive ability to control to suppress one language while using another language or switch from one language to another language simultaneously. Bilingualism also positively affects learners academic progress (Saer, D. J. 1923). Moreover, studies on bilingual language processing have shown that when bilingual speakers, listen to, read, or produce sentences, linguistic competency in both languages is activated, even when the speaker uses one language (Kroll, J. F., Bobb, S. C., Hoshino, N. (2014). This cross language activation can be detected in both beginners and highly skilled bilinguals and can be found at various levels of language processing system, such as lexicon, phonology, and grammar. In particular, cognitive research on bilingualism suggests that a bilingual speaker s second language, which is not used in word recognition and language production, is being suppressed and the language that tends to be self controlled is the native language of the speaker, not the second foreign language, implying that the native language is indeed compromised to accommodate the second language. The control system used to cognitively prohibit and switch languages is a control system commonly used for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Kern s Musical Innovations Further, Kern s innovations in music also consisted of experimenting with different types of songs and new instrument usage. As early as 1913 he suggested to his orchestrator, Frank Saddler (or acquiesced in Saddler s suggestion), that saxophones be used in the pit band for Oh, I Say! Although recent musical research has identified these instruments as the smaller European variety rather than the standard American jazz instrument, this use of the saxophone was new (Bordman). He also experimented with many of his songs that deviated from the traditional style of musical theatre forms and repetition in songs. Harmonic innovations were usually confined to the verse of a song but experiments with form and style are not that unusual in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kern s music along with various collaborators lyrics set the mold for the cohesive story in musical theatre, which included, not only lyrics that advanced the plot and related to the scene at hand, but musical interludes by Kern that often repeated in a new song in the musical to connect the story. These productions, Nobody Home, Very Good Eddie, Oh Boy!, and Oh Lady! Lady!!, were distinguished by a new approach to musical theater, developed by Kern in collaboration with librettist Guy Bolton, and, beginning in 1917, the talents of lyricist P.G. Wodehouse (Gale Research). Aside from the fact that the overall format for musical theatre had changed, thanks in part to Kern, it was the idea of characterization in song that really brought the modern musicals we see today to life. Kern s exquisitely flowing melodies were employed to further the action or develop characterization. The integration of song and story is periodically announced as a breakthrough in our musical theaters (Bordman). Before this innovation, early musical plays and minstrel shows often threw songs in at random points, hardly relating it to the scenes at hand, moving along the plot, or revealing information about the characters lives. The musical revue format, with unrelated numbers strung together, was replaced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such neighborhoods often consist of a center with a public transit station, bounded by high density growth with gradually lower density development spreading outward from the center. TODs or transit zones are typically located within a radius of one half mile from a transit station, as this is generally considered a reasonable walking distance for pedestrians. However, geographic proximity alone does not make development transit oriented. Indeed, many developments can be said to be transit adjacent (i.e. within close physical proximity to transit) but not necessarily designed to promote access and use. On contrary, TOD creates a thrilling community centered on transit access and reduced automobile dependence. As such, a pedestrian friendly environment is critical to TOD, but is not essential to transit adjacent development. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 47. Code Switching Essay In this world, there are a lot of languages used to communicate. Nation and cultural diversity are a source of variation in the languages. The diversity of the language used by a particular group is a factor of the occurrence of bilingualism. According to Grosjean (1984, p. 1) bilingualism is the use of two or more languages. The proficiency of bilingualism may vary depending on the exposure to the other users of language and opportunities to use the language. It is one of the factors of replacement of the language. This phenomenon known as code switching, it can occur as a whole, the incorporating elements of other languages in the language being used, or the turn of a variation of a language. Based on Poplack (1980) theory code switching is the alternation of two languages within a single discourse, sentence or constituent. Garrett (2010, p. 11) said that code switching is the most powerful feature of informal communication. In contrast from socio cultural perspective, the presence of code switched communication in EFL classrooms encourages capability of using both languages effectively and creative language use (Dahl, Rice, Steffensen, Amundsen, 2010). The act of public shaming has been around for centuries shifting from scaffold gatherings to hateful social media posts. This tradition being kept alive after all of this time is used purely for the profit of the shamer. With each post comes more agony and dread for the person being shamed and more enjoyment to the people shaming. This vicious cycle has not changed much from the onlookers at the scaffold to the bystanders of social media who do nothing but allow for this tradition to keep growing. The age old tradition of public shame has become like reality show engaging people in the dire consequences of the person being shamed and their growing feelings of desolation. Public shame directly leads to dire consequences for the person being shamed. • 50. The Pros And Cons Of Public-Private Partnership Practice Public Private Partnership (PPP) practice has been increasingly prevalent in modern infrastructure delivery and public service provision, such as in transportation, electric power, waste management, health care, and other industries (Broadbent and Iaughlin, 2004; Essig and Batran, 2005; Hodge and Greve, 2007; Wang, 2015; Zhang et al., 2015). Popularity of PPPs is mainly attributed to some inherent efficiency advantages (Grimsey and Lewis, 2007; Hart, 2003; Yang and Wang, 2013).
