WHITE BLOOD CELLS
White Blood Cells
Bacteria exist everywhere in the environment and have continuous access to the body through the
mouth, nose and pores of skin. Further more, many cells age and die daily and their remains must be
removed, this is where the white blood cell plays its role.
According to this quotation, without white blood cells, also known as leukocytes, we would not be
able to survive. White blood cells are our body s number one defense against infections. They help
keep us clean from foreign bacteria that enter our bodies. Statistics show that there are five to ten
thousand white blood cells per micro liter of blood, however this number will increase during an
illness. White blood cells can differ in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These white blood cells are similar to Neutrophil because they attack bacteria by the immune system.
This particular group of white blood cells is extremely important in my body, because they are
prominent at sites of allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis. The nucleus of Eosinphil is made of two
lobes, and implanted in the cytoplasm are large, red orange granules, and the diameter of them is on
average about twelve to fifteen µm. The third type of granular leukocytes is called, basophil. Basophil
s major function is, secretion. They tend to have a diameter of 12 15 µm. These cells make up only
about one percent of the total population of white blood cells, causing them to be much more difficult
to detect. These cells secrete both histamine and heparin. Histamine draws blood into the damaged
area, while heparin slows clotting so that more blood can enter the damaged area.
There are two different kinds of agranular white cells. One is called monocyte, and the other is called
lymphocyte. The major function of monocyte is, phagocytosis. These cells more very quickly and are
therefore able to consume bacteria and dead tissue at a fast rate. Monocytes have an average diameter
of, 12 17 µm, and they make up about 3 8 percent of our leukocyte s population. Lymphocytes, major
function are immunity. There are many different forms of lymphocytes, and all of the different forms
have different functions. B lymphocytes

Fredendall s Failure In Relating To The Realities Of War
(8) leadership.
MG Fredendall rarely left the Command Post and was removed from the front lines, being hidden in
underground bunkers. His verbal orders were vague and he continually bypassed the 1st Armored
Division commander, MG Ward, so as to deal directly with the combat commanders. His orders were
based solely (Nidorest) on directive and not from the information on hand. He regularly ignored the
advice of his subordinates.
d. State the mission and describe initial disposition of the opposing forces.
As per the Corps commander, the 1st Armored Division was to defend the passes and provide support

It was a complete disaster for the Allied Forces and large victory for the Axis powers. It set a tone for
further engagements along the western front of the Tunisian invasion. Only the lack of clear unity of
command between the Italians and Germany allowed the offensive to stall.
4. ASSESS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ACTION:
a. Relate causes to effects.
The US doctrine relating to the use of tanks and tank destroyers was flawed, furthermore unit
commanders failed to both properly exercise the doctrine and adapt to the realities of war. This lead to
a total failure in our ability to properly engage and defeat the German forces.
A lack of good intelligence and the inability to properly utilize the intelligence we had made it
impossible to properly position our forces prior to the battle starting. Furthermore it greatly reduced
our ability to reinforce our front lines and counter the German attacks.
b. Establish military lessons learned.
Doctrine should be fluid, it must be allowed to adapt and change as the situation dictates. You cannot
allow yourself to get stuck in a singular mindset about how war is fought. Our enemy s technology
and tactics are always evolving and we must always strive to evolve both to adapt to and overcome

Klondike Gold Rush Research Paper
The Klondike Gold Rush was an event of migration by an estimated 100,000 people prospecting to the
Klondike region of north western Canada in the Yukon region between 1896 and 1899. It s also called
the Yukon Gold Rush, the Last Great Gold Rush and the Alaska Gold Rush. Gold was discovered in
many rich deposits along the Klondike River in 1896, but due to the remoteness of the region and the
harsh winter climate the news of gold couldn t travel fast enough to reach the outside world before the
following year. Reports of the gold in newspapers created a hysteria that was nation wide and many
people quit their jobs and then left for the Klondike to become gold diggers. Because of the harsh
terrain and even harsher weather, it took gold rushers

Barack Obama s The Audacity Of Hope
On July 27, 2004, Barack Obama arguably made his greatest speech, The Audacity of Hope , at the
Democratic National Convention Keynote Address. All the way through his piece, Obama focuses on
connecting himself to Americans. However, Barack Obama was a US Senate candidate for the United
States president, and in making this speech, uses this connection to raise his reputation rather than to
simply amuse the audience. Throughout The Audacity of Hope speech, Barack Obama implements
three main devices to raise his political popularity: abstract language, repetition, and structure. Part of
The Audacity of Hope is Obama s use of abstract words, which help to associate the piece to everyone
s individual view of these words. In other words, since abstract words have no explicit definitions, the
words fit to the person who defines them. Obama states, John Kerry believes in the Constitutional
freedoms that have made our country the envy of the world, and he will never sacrifice our basic
liberties, nor use faith as a wedge to divide us. In this sentence, Obama uses the words freedoms ,
sacrifice , liberties , and faith to describe John Kerry and what he does. By using these abstract words,
Obama creates a perfect American image, one that stands for everything America stands for. This is
powerful. By comparing a person to a highly symbolic figure, such as the United States, Obama
invokes high emotions among the audience, or the pathos of the piece, which he then puts onto

Thomas Hooker And Reverend Samuel Stone
The history of Hartford begins with Thomas Hooker s arrival in Newtown (later renamed Cambridge)
Massachusetts where he became a pastor of one of the earliest established churches there. However,
voting in Massachusetts was limited to freemen or limited to people who had been formally
interrogated on their religious views and experiences. Hooker disagreed with these limitations and
their influential pastor, John Cotton. So, Thomas Hooker and Reverend Samuel Stone led a group of
one hundred people in 1636 and founded the settlement of Hartford. Which then led to the founding of
the Connecticut Colony and Hookers increased involvement in politics. On January 14, 1639 freemen
from the three colonies that made up the Connecticut Colony sat down and ratified the Fundamental
Orders of Connecticut which was called the first written constitution known to history that created a
government. It marked the beginnings of American democracy, of which Thomas Hooker deserves
more than any other man to be called the father. The government of the United States today is in lineal
descent more nearly related to that of Connecticut than to that of any of the other thirteen colonies
(John Fiske). Having been founded on such prestige Hartford has seen some of the greatest successes
and some of the worst failures. For example, Hartford claimed leader in both the industrial industry
and insurance industry. Hartford houses some of the most famous insurance agencies and firearm
factories.

Integrated Faith
Good Advertising or Not?
David A. Gatti
BUSI 612 Integrated Faith amp; Learning Report
Liberty University November 10, 2015
Abstract
This paper will discuss a Bible verse(s) that would guide a marketer as they developed advertisements
that would be considered within the boundaries of good advertising.
Keywords: good advertising, advertising ethics, corporate social responsibility
Good Advertising or Not?
Advertisements
Advertisements are an important vehicle designed to promote or help sell a product, service or idea
(Young, 2014, p.35). As a dimension of IMC, advertising is ...most often associated with offenses that
attract attention from critics and regulators alike (Young, 2014, p.34). This can be ... Show more

Persevering trials bring purpose, and God s love is evident in His chastening which should never be
despised (Job 5:17; Hebrews 12:5).
The Word of God then warns not to be fooled by Satan or his lies (James 1:16). Our faith and love in
God who first loved us (1 John 4:19) can shield the fiery darts of wickedness hurled by Satan, the real
source of temptation (Ephesians 6:16). James 1:17 continues by naming God as the source of every
good and perfect gift from above. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we
might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures (James 1:18, NKJV). The excerpt points to the sacrifice,
redemption and love of Jesus Christ who said, As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you:
continue ye in my love (John 15:9, KJV). Conclusion
In summary, marketers will be challenged daily and would be wise to take heed to spiritual
instruction:
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye
shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall
receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons (Colossians 3:23 25,
KJV).
Finally, before giving an answer to: Is it considered good advertising or not?, marketers should rely
solely on the direction and guarantee of God s promises (2 Corinthians 7:1) and His wisdom

Gimpel
The Difference Between Gimpel and Society Today When wronged or made a fool of, people today
tend to recoil, and pounce back with vengeful hearts. It is the attitude and character of society to hate
those who wrong them and rid their hearts of trust afterwards. When comparing and contrasting the
character of Gimpel and the character of society today, the intent and full meaning of the short story,
Gimpel the Fool, is shown to the readers. Gimpel is portrayed as someone who is easily misled and
would believe most anything told to him. In this story, Isaac Bashevis Singer is revealing the
vindictive hearts and attitudes of people by showing us the forgiving heart of Gimpel the Fool. The
reward and happiness Gimpel receives in return for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the major contrasts between the two is seen in the concept of revenge and forgiveness. It is the
nature of someone in society to repay evil for evil. It was once said, An eye for eye only ends up
making the whole world blind (Hall, Karyn). The struggle with revenge is centuries old. Shakespeare
said, If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you poison us do we not
die? And if you wrong us shall we not revenge? Shakespeare clearly thought revenge was as normal
and predictable as the sun rising (Hall, Karyn). Gimple s character differs greatly from this vengeful
human nature. He forgave easily and accepted the fact that people are entitled to mistakes. An example
of this is found when Gimple and Elka were separated. Gimpel had found her lying with another man
and the Rabbi separated them until a divorce could be arranged. While Gimple was alone and was
pondering upon this predicament, he said to himself, There is bound to be a slip sometimes. You
cannot live without errors. Probably that lad who was with her led her on and gave her presents and
what not, and women are often long on hair and short on sense, and so he got around her (singer,
Isaac). Gimpel chose to be forgiving, instead of seeking revenge. This is far from the natural reply of
mankind. Singer reveals the need for forgiveness by showing this immense contrast

Science Stemming from Cellular Research Since the discovery of stem cells, scientist have been

Scientists have been using stem cells since their discovery to improve research and treatments. One
type of organ improvement stem cells have played an important part in recently is the heart. There can
now be a reduction in cardiovascular disease morbidity rates through the utilization of stem cells, and
worrying about compatibility and time can become a thing of the past. Through the use of stem cells,
repair, rehabilitation, and transplant can help or even cure myocardial necrosis. A stem cell is an
undifferentiated cell that can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, scientists at the Texas Heart Institute extracted stem cells and anti inflammitory from fat
tissue from a patient that had had a myocardial infarction. Scientists then injected the stem cells into
the damaged area of the heart. They then studied patients with stem cell injections and without stem
cell injections. From baseline to six months, they noticed patients without stem cells damage area
increased by 5.1%, and patients with stem cells damage area decreased by 3% (Texas Heart). This
study had positive affects, as did a similar one. Other scientists induced rats to have myocardial
infarctions. They then extracted cardiac stem cells from the rats themselves and injected them back
into the damaged area of the heart. Mortality rates decreased, and scientists noticed the aortic and
myocardial walls became thicker to protect themselves from future problems (Beltrami, Barlucchi,
Torella). From the use of stem cells, cardiovascular repair can greatly decrease mortality rates and
increase quality of life for survivors. After patients have gone through heart disease, like any other
injury, therapeutic steps must be taken. Therapy and rehabilitation of damaged hearts has been
improved through the utilization of stem cells. Therapy includes strengthening of the damaged area as
to prevent the incident from reoccurring and getting the patient back to their normal life. Scientists,
again, used rats that had had induced myocardial infarctions. This

Vietnam War Language Analysis
Before the playing of the national anthem at each Bucknell University basketball game at Sojka

Despite the plea, the nation remains divided on cultural, moral and political issues that run parallel to
racial and ethnic lines. Such divisions were evident throughout the three day D.N.C. Atlanta
conference where both Tom Perez and Keith Ellison urged backers to unite and fight President Trump

You could argue that the country is more divided today than at any time since the Vietnam War. In a

Judgment In The Scarlett Letter
The Scarlett Letter is an 1850 work of fiction written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The story is set up in
the 17th century in Puritan Boston Massachusets and it mainly focuses on the life of a woman, Hester
Prynne and how she struggles to gain respect from the community after having committed adultery.
Throughout the book, themes such as sin, isolation, and judgment are explored. Hawthorne uses the
theme of judgment to convey ideas about the strictness of the puritan society. This theme is explored
from the beginning of the book up until the end. Hawthorne uses characters such as Dimmesdale,
Pearl, and Hester to show this theme and the ways in which it impacts their lives. The theme of
Judgment is evident in the first chapter when Hester was standing on the scaffold ... Show more

Because the woman asks if there is a law for her to die we are made aware of the fact that many
people based their judgments on the law and that they didn t think on their own at all. However, not all
the community is as strict, and one of the youngest women tries to stand up for Hester. This action
supports Hawthorne s idea of women diminishment in roughness over generations. The young woman
says: Not a stitch in that embroidered letter but she has felt it in her heart (41). This shows how she
understood that Hester was judging herself harshly enough and that she barely cared about other s
judgments towards her. Also, because this woman was not raised in such strict manners she was not
blinded by the puritan laws and she was able to understand better Hester s condition. Apart from that,
Hester is more independent because she doesn t rely on a husband and this creates a reason for this
woman to admire and defend her. Pearl is another character who is subjected to judgment as a result of
Hester s sin. Indeed, many puritan mothers who are deep rooted on their beliefs try to prevent their
own children from playing with

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Hillary Rodham Clinton s Speech
On September 5, 1995, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton spoke in front of delegates from 180
countries at the United Nations Fourth World Conference of Women. There, she was to deliver one of
her greatest speeches on a topic that affects all of us; human rights, more notably, the rights of women
and children. In her speech, Clinton persuaded those in attendance, utilizing ethos, pathos and logos,
to understand the importance of women s rights and to demand that they take steps to ensure that
women receive the same liberties as men.
Aristotle, Greek philosopher and scientist, argued that there were three ingredients needed to
effectively persuade those around you; ethos, pathos, and logos.
There are, then, these three means effecting persuasion. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a violation of human rights when women and girls are sold into the slavery of prostitution for
human greed and the kinds of reasons that are used to justify this practice should no longer be
tolerated. (Clinton, 1995)
Humans have rights. Women are humans. Women should have human rights. Hillary utilized this
argument to persuade her audience with logos appeal as it is only logical that women s rights should
be equal to all human s rights, because after all, women are humans.
We need to understand there is no one formula for how women should lead our lives. That is why we
must respect the choices that each woman makes for herself and her family. Every woman deserves
the chance to realize her own God given potential. But we must recognize that women will never gain
full dignity until their human rights are respected and protected. (Clinton, 1995)
Aristotle stated that an argument should prove something or at least it should appear to prove
something. (European Rhetoric, 2007) Clinton s speech makes a logical plea that proves that all
people, regardless of gender, creed, or nationality should have their human rights

Respiratory Syncytial Virus
A mother brings their toddler in to the clinic, with what they think is a cold but a nurse wonders if the
child could possibly have respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). A cold and RSV are a lot alike, in the way
that they both may come across as cold like symptoms, but this is not the case. Throughout this report
one will find out what the differences between a common cold and RSV are, the signs and symptoms a
toddler may have with this virus, the treatments one may face and ways to prevent this awful and
dangerous virus. The purpose of this report is to deepen one s understanding of the respiratory

RSV will usually affect one s upper respiratory tract first before affecting the lower. It is also more
common that this virus will affect someone s upper respiratory rather than the lower respiratory.
Someone with an upper respiratory infection may come across as having the common cold, tonsillitis,
the flu, and etc. The flu is also able to occur in someone who has a lower respiratory tract infection, as
well as, bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, and tuberculosis ( Respiratory Tract Infections, 2014).
RSV is a virus that is hard to diagnosis because the signs and symptoms are a lot like the common
cold. One may start to develop a runny nose or decrease in appetite the first couple of days when
having this virus; but coughing, sneezing, and wheezing may also occur. In young infants, they may
experience irritability or difficulties with breathing ( CDC, 2014). One may have this virus before
realizing the symptoms like a dry cough, low grade fever, sore throat or headache (Mayo Clinic,
1998). Someone with an upper respiratory tract infection may have a fever, headache, sore throat or
wheezing; whereas someone with a lower respiratory tract infection may have a cough, increased
breathing rate, tightness in the chest. While both tract infections should be taken seriously, they both
can lead to RSV.
Bronchitis and Bronchiolitis are also two very serious infections that may lead to RSV.

Louisa May Alcott My Contraband Summary
Louisa May Alcott s My Contraband and Its Ethical Implications As stated by intellectual Joseph
Wong, influence is our inner ability to lift people up to our perspectives (Young Ch. 6). Throughout
history, numerous writers have utilized their ability to impact their readers to encourage their audience
to follow the author s principles and beliefs. Louisa May Alcott, born in Pennsylvania in 1832, was the
type of writer to use her power to influence her lectors views on the topics and issues that she was
passionate about. Alcott s father, Amos Bronson Alcott, was a writer, lecturer, and educator, and her
mother, Abba May, was a strong willed and independent woman and bright educator. Her brilliant
parents helped Alcott grow to be an intellectual, an independent female, and, as mentioned by Clark
Moreland in one of his lectures, ...a dark headed, volatile, and energetic child ( Lecture 3.4... ). After
her parents fell into deep debt, Alcott began to work to support her family. She served as a seamstress,
teacher, and, of course, a writer. As an open minded individual, Alcott was an advocate of many
causes and policies, and, through her compositions, she shared her beliefs to guide her readers towards
integrating her ideals into their lives. For instance, in 1863, Alcott released her work My Contraband,
first titled The Brothers. The piece featured a Civil War nurse, Faith Dane, in the Union side who was

Car Pollution Essay
The words pollution and automobile are synonymous, and as long as vehicles still use fossil fuels to
run, that won t change. Consumers, communities, and the environment are key stakeholders the auto
industry has to consider when it comes to pollution. More energy efficient, hybrid or electric vehicles
can increase customer satisfaction and add to the company s business performance. For instance, fuel
consumption is an assumption of performance and is very important for consumers. Thus, automotive
companies have to come up with great designs with minimal consumption of resources and raw
materials; engines that give more mileage and less fuel consumption. Given that consumers are the
most important stakeholders, communities of these consumers also want vehicles with the lowest
emissions possible with hopes of keeping the air around them clean and healthy. Once again, these
informal bands and communities of consumers have large amounts of power based on buying power
alone, and can significantly impact an automobile company s business.
A vehicle s environmental impact can be easily measured through miles per gallon and measures of
emissions. In 2011, President Barrack Obama and automobile companies agreed to raise fuel
efficiency standards to meet an average of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. This will lead to more fuel
efficient vehicles that will consume less gas, thus burning less fuel and emitting fewer emissions into
the air. Also, according to the Obama administration, this

Abstract This paper presents a systematic method for deriving three port converters from the full
bridge converter by splitting two switching legs of full bridge converter into two cells with different
sources. The Full bridge TPC can be used across a wide source voltage range, and good control over
two of the three ports can be achieved while the third port provides the power balance in the system.
Moreover, the energy stored in the leakage inductance of the transformer can be utilized to achieve
zero voltage switching for all the primary side switches. Experimental results verify the feasibility and

Health Plan For A Healthy Lifestyle
Throughout the past two years of health class, I have learned that a healthy lifestyle is the key to living
a long life. Although the class focuses on general ideas, it s still teaches that each individual student
should have a different health plan, as they each come from different backgrounds. One s health plan
would be based off their family history with injury, illness, and disease. When creating my health plan,
I took into consideration how my grandmother (on my mother s side) died of breast cancer, my
grandfather (on my mother s side) has developed Huntington s disease, and my grandfather (on my
father s side) had Parkinson s disease. To reduce the chances of developing any of these diseases, I
must take into consideration different healthcare options, nutrition plans, physical activity regimens,
stress factors, environmental factors, and be aware of what I use as a consumer.
It is estimated that about 12% of women will develop breast cancer at some point in their life. Your
chances of this are even more increased if a family member has been diagnosed with the disease. So,
if someone in your family has had the cancer, it is recommended you live a cautious lifestyle. This is
how I will have to live, as my grandmother died of breast cancer. She was diagnosed twice, after
thinking she had beaten the cancer once. The second time it developed, it metastasized into her lymph
nodes, killing her. To avoid the same fate, I will have to make sure to live the healthiest

Environmental Assessment Of Wastewater Drains
Environmental Assessment of Wastewater Drains Outfalls Points into River Mouri at Khulna: An
Application of GIS S. Hasan , K. M. Hassan and S. K. Sarkar Abstract Rivers are the blessing on earth
as they serve humans with ample fresh water supply. The purpose of the present study focuses on the
combination of the GIS mapping, to indicate the status of pollution status in the sketch of River
Mouri, downstream to the wastewater outfalls. The GIS mapping of the eleven wastewater study
parameters reveals that the high concentrations of BOD5, COD, DO, Color, Turbidity, TDS and TSS
exceeding the permissible limits is present throughout the study portion of the river. In addition, it
highlighted the portions where only few parameters such as PH, Chloride, Nitrate and Sulphate are
deteriorating the riverine ecosystem. The GIS application in pollutant load assessment of the study
further indicates that although few pollutants, discharged into river are relatively low in concentrations
at one wastewater outfall point as compared to other but may have high pollutant load that may leads
to significantly higher ecological impacts. The possible application of this study is for the decision
makers to introduce optimum treatment engineering controls at points of interests, prior to its disposal
into River Mouri to prevent the ecological damages and protect human health. Keywords: gis

Description Of Person Centered Theory
Lien Hua a sixteen year old first generation Chinese American. Hua came to the school social work
counselor complaining of feeling stressed. Hua explained that she is interested in pursuing social work
when she goes away to college, however, her parents would like her to either practice medicine or law.
She reported that just thinking of talking to her parents regarding her career choice is causing her
immense stress. As a result of the stress she reports that her grades have dropped and she is socializing
less. Hua has requested that the school social worker tell her what to say to her parents to help them
understand her choice.
Overview of Person Centered Theoretical Approach
Person Centered Theory (PCT) was cultivated by Carl Rogers from the 1940 s through the 1950 s
(Walsh, 2013). He first developed person centered therapy, infusing Functional and Humanistic views,
consequently, person centered theory followed. Rogers authored four books expounding on the
therapy (Walsh, 2013). Person Centered Theory is a nondirective humanistic client centered approach,
which regards the client and the social worker as contemporaries (Joseph Murphy, 2013). The client is
the authority on their life and the social worker is there to offer unconditional positive regard, which
fosters growth in sections that are important to the client (Joseph Murphy, 2013) . The primary
theoretical underpinning embraced by the theory is embodied in actualizing tendency, which Rogers

Analysis Of On Dumpster Diving Essay
English 101 Final Essay Q1: Discuss the contemporary issues in every essay A) A contemporary
problem raised in On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner Is the amount of wealth spent by consumers,
and the effect of that. Consumers spend too much money and waste even more when they throw food
and clothing away. In the essay he explains the way of life as an scavenger and how to demonstrate
how people are able to live by the minimal resources although most consumers continue to buy things
they do not need and continue to waste resources that may be valuable to others. Aside from food, he
additionally describes the emotional impact that living out of a dumpster can have on a person. He
describes finding sad things such as abandoned teddy bears, shredded wedding books, and pets lying
in state. Seeing the pets makes him think about his dog Lizbeth and how she is likely to end up with a
dumpster as her final resting place, as Eighner does not see himself having a place for her before she
passes on. Rummaging causes Eighner to consider how much individuals underestimate, including the
way that they can purchase something new to replace something old that they have discarded. He feels
frustrated because of the individuals who don t have that extravagance. B) Our Wall by Charles

EE 653 CODING THEORY PROJECT REPORT REDUCING THE GAP TO CAPACITY OF A
RATE 1/3 CODE VIA CONVOLUTIONAL ENCODING/DECODING ARUN PRAKASH
NACHIMUTHU MARIA HASHMI ABSTRACT In this project we are trying to minimize the gap to
capacity of a channel given by Shannon s theoretical limit of a rate 1/3 code. This is done through a
convolutional encoding/decoding by varying memory elements for both soft and hard decision
decoding. The basic concepts associated with the convolution code with its encoding and decoding
schemes are used in this project. Using Shannon s optimal code we compare the gap to capacity of the
algorithm that is implemented. Finally we show that the gap to capacity can be minimized with respect
to the sub optimal un coded code word or a 1/3 repetition code. INTRODUCTION For a given code
rate constraint of R= 1/3, a binary input AWGN channel this project presents various convolutional
decoder and encoder of varying memory element sizes to reduce the gap to capacity of a code with
respect to Shannon s limit. SHANONS CAPACITY THEOREM AND CHANNEL CODING Despite
the presence of noise, the error performance of a data communication system can be decreased to an
arbitrarily low error rate, so long as the data rate was below a certain level (i.e.) the presence of noise
limits the data rate not the error rate. To improve the error performance of communication system
requires larger Bandwidth. If we are willing to accept erroneous data, the capacity of any

What would the United States be like if Americans couldn t practice their customs, culture, or even

native countries and cultures have faced this type of dilemma. The Spanish influence on the Aztecs
and the English on Native Americans are two examples of this imperialistic move. If only these
cultures had a strong network of men and women who devoted their lives towards keeping their
culture and history alive for future generations. The Gaelic League was based upon this definition.

The congestion led to the activation of the Irish Poor laws in 1838 by Great Britain s Queen Victoria.
These laws were enforced in an attempt to promote emigration to areas like the United States and
Australia. All the outcomes of the Famine were not necessarily negative. One such incentive was
modernization. According to Garvin, Ireland has been a modernizing society since the Famine, and the
tragedy of the Famine was itself the occasion of a great modernizing change (469). The demand for an
institution of education was in order.
To answer the demand would eventually lead to, The Gaelic League, the dominant institution of the
third revival, (Hutchinson 484) with the second revival being the Irish Protestant/ Catholic liberation
of 1829. With the loss of so many people, religion became a large part of the community. Such a
devastating event left the Irish vulnerable to outside influences, especially the British. A powerful
nation could easily push its culture, society, and government on a weak country like Ireland in the mid
to late 1800s. To counter the British, religion took on a stronghold on Irish living. The Catholic
Church, through the work of dedicated priests throughout the southern regions of Ireland, grew in
popularity and even united small rural towns. This action rebuilt trust in communities and aided the
most devastated of areas. The major Christian groups, Irish Protestants and Catholics, would be

The Importance Of Listening As A Servant Leader
Discussion Following this further, we will discuss the remarks of various authors about the importance
of listening as a servant leader, as well as how it is effected by emotional intelligence. It is also
important that we compare and contrast the various viewpoints on this subject, before we answer the
research questions based on this literature.
Listening
First, we will review the literature from various authors on why listening is important as a servant
leader. As mentioned earlier, Spears (2002), illustrated how listening was a critical aspect of servant
leadership, and the first in his list of ten elements which were vital in regard to the development of
servant leaders (loc. 119). This identification as a crucial element of servant leadership, ... Show more

Emotional intelligence is a term that Daniel Goleman coined to describe a bundle of psychological
attributes that many strong and effective leaders exhibit (Hill, Jones, Schilling, 2014, p. 32). As
described by Hill et al. (2014), emotional intelligence incorporates self awareness, self regulation,
motivation, empathy, and social skills (p. 32). In contrast, Covey (2002) lists only empathy and
awareness as one of his ten characteristics of servant leaders. Daniel Goleman also goes on to mention
that leaders who have these traits are more successful than those who do not. In Goleman s view,
people respect leaders who, because they are self aware, recognize their own limitations and, because
they are self regulating, consider decisions carefully (Hill et al., 2014, p. 32). He goes on to describe
how motivation helps persuade others towards a leader s vision. Finally, strong empathy and social
skills can help leaders earn the loyalty of subordinates (Hill et al., 2014, p.

The Factors And Negative Consequences Of Police Porruption
Police corruption has negative consequences on the society, thus, it is important to investigate the
factors that cause police corruption. The present essay aims to explore the factors that cause police
corruption and its intervention. Police corruption is believed to be an organisational deviance rather
than an individual misbehaviour. Police officers are considered clean when they join the police
organisation and their deviant behaviours might be induced by police culture. The employment of
slack management with low control and norms of secrecy of police corruption in police organisations
are factors that lead to police corruption. In addition, recruits follow the informal rules in the
organisation due to peer pressure and are initiated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This perspective adopts the idea that good people can be induced to do nearly anything if they are
convinced that it is appropriate in a social context (Browning, 1992). Each context is perceived to
have its own inducements and rationalism that make people, who enter as rule abiding individuals,
allow themselves to do things that they would not do outside of the group (Punch, 2008). Thus, the
process in which initially clean police officers are influenced by the organisation and end up
performing deviant behaviours needs to be examined in explaining police

How Does Temperature Affect The Permeability Of The Plasma...
Introduction
Membranes contain phospholipid bilayer these are two layers of phospholipids which are facing in
opposite directions to each other. The non polar tails are hydrophobic which are water hating, what
makes it difficult for polar molecules/ions to pass through them are the fatty acid tails which also act
as a barrier to water soluble substances. These molecules move in and out of the cell by diffusion,
osmosis and active transport. Diffusion is the net movement of particles down a concentration gradient
for example when gases move about and will move from where there is a high concentration to where
they are in lower concentration. By osmosis, the diffusion of water through the plasma membrane is
possible because the lipids bilayers are water resistant to important molecules and small molecules
like oxygen and carbon dioxide, these molecules and ions diffuse freely across the cell membrane. By
active transport, ions and molecules are forced using metabolic energy to move against their
concentrated gradient. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will lead to a higher reading on the colorimeter. At about 59°C proteins start to become denatured
losing their shape preventing the normal movement of substances in and out of the cell. Above 60°C

stability of the membrane.

Japan And China Relations During The End Of World War II
Japan and China have been in cold relations ever since the end of World War II. After the war, there
was barely any diplomacy to bring together their relation. Not until 1972 Prime Minister Kakuei
Tanaka of Japan visited China with an official invitation. At the scene, both sides were willing for
reconciliation and normalization, result with the Joint Communique between two governments. From
that moment on, the (economic) relations of the two nations has been reestablished, encouraged and
developed rapidly (China, Japan Joint Communique, 1972). There is an opinion that China s
incredible (economic) developing rate has greatly influenced Japan diplomatic with Beijing since that
time. And this essay is going to support this argument with data as well as historical and contemporary

and the stabilization of Japan. Therefore, variables that related to it can influence both countries
economic interest, lead to the consideration of policy makers. It is clear that both countries were in

The Day Of The World
Every single person is frightened of death, or has a fear of being left behind. Death of a person is very
terrifying, yet the end of humanity and universe is not even imaginable. Humankind has been
wondering how and when will the Earth end for thousands of years, to be prepared spiritually and
religiously or just to decide whether to spend all the money that a person has or enjoy the life more.
Exemptionalist, environmentalist, universe and judgement day are a few known and existing concepts.
Initially, exemptionalists are the people who believes that humankind should stop worrying because
they can withstand all the situations. On the other hand, environmentalists are the people who believes
humankind is a part of nature so they point out that humankind is related to environment directly,
hence humankind is affected by all the problems associated with the environment. Universe is the
place where everything stays and occurs in. The day of judgement is the time many religions accept
that God will end the life which we live. Mainly theories about end of the world can be separated into
three groups which are the end by the human based problems, physical destruction of universe and the
order of God. Although the human based damages on the Earth are getting more and more serious and
physical collapse of universe makes sense scientifically, the decision of ending the world will only be
in the hands of the owner of everything, the God, not the humankind.

Porter s Five Force Competition Analysis
Porter s five force competition analysis
Michael Porter developed the five force competition which is applicable to all the industries across the
globe. This model assumes that there are five forces that determine the competition facing an industry.
The tool is powerful in understanding where competition lies in current industry situation. The model
below describes the five force competition. The carbonated soft drink industry is highly competitive in
all countries with Coca Cola and Pepsi having almost 70% market share of the world. The quickly
developing nature of the Chinese carbonated soft drinks market has given the aggressive scene a
significant help. All areas developed somewhere around 1999 and 2003, and despite the fact that
development in a few segments is backing off, especially in the carbonates area, there are a
considerable measure of chances for organizations to help their pieces of the pie by spreading into
developing areas. The five force competition model enables us to analyze the competition faced by the
industry in a market.
Threat of new entrants: The soft drink industry is highly competitive. The barrier to entry is relatively
low for a new comer with a single beverage but the established players like Coca Cola and China, who
with their experience have achieved economies of scale. Huge capital investments are required to
create a brand awareness among the consumers, though the process of bottling, distribution and
storage could be outsourced. The

Tyranny And The Social Wellbeing Of Citizens
During the 19th century, in the age after the French Revolution, the vast majority of political and
philosophical thinkers concerned themselves at some point with the issue of tyranny in society. Such
writers spanned from Alexis de Tocqueville, to John Stuart Mill, to Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.
The interpretations and approaches taken to the subject of tyranny and how to protect against it,
though, were as varied as the collection of authors who addressed it. From de Tocqueville s stringent
observations in Democracy in America, the concept of a purely political tyranny is delineated. In
contrast, Mill s essay On Liberty focuses on a particular strain of despotic oppression that threatens
the social wellbeing of citizens. Yet another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, John Stuart Mill s essay On Liberty focuses almost entirely on Mill s idea of how forms of
tyranny have evolved throughout history, and how the most pressing form is a new tyranny of the
majority in which the force of the public opinion is used to silence individuals. Mill seeks to describe
how in the past, protection against the tyranny of political rulers was necessary to ensure the liberty of
individuals, but the problem now has evolved from tyrannical political leaders to an oppressive public
that may desire to oppress a part of their number (Mill 7). Similar to Mill, Karl Marx and Friedrich
Engels make the subject of tyranny the focus of The Communist Manifesto; choosing to utilize the
manifesto to dissect the tyrannical ways that the bourgeoisie operates in society. Written as an
observation of the struggles of the working class stemming from the Industrial Revolution, The
Communist Manifesto delineates how bourgeois society has established new classes, new conditions
of oppression, [and] new forms of struggle for the working class proletariat (Marx Engels 3). As Marx
and Engels were commissioned to draft the manifesto for the Communist League, it makes sense that
the piece is intended to provoke the common citizen into recognizing their potential exploitation.
Additionally, the actual definition that each author

Conflict Theorists
Marvin Carlson s article argues about whether plays are better experienced purely through text or
through performance. He discusses the conflict theorists dealt with when they wanted to perform
Shakespeare s plays. Some theorists believed that Shakespeare s texts were a magnificent work on
their own and that any performance needed to be as close to the text as possible. This caused theorists
to regard performance as unnecessary since it had the potential to ruin the text. This type of theory
carried on past the romantic period and some theorist continue to believe that plays should keep to the
original script as much as possible. Carlson cites Charles Lamb commenting on how performances of
Hamlet diminish the quality of Shakespeare s work. Marvin then explains how ... Show more content

Edward Gordon Craig is cited saying that if the a play is pure and performance has a tendency to

believe that theatre should create its own type of art. Marvin then goes on to discuss theorists that take
a middle ground approach to text and performance. These types of theorist try to treat both the written
and performance portion of plays equally. However, Marvin argues that is not necessarily what
happens. He states that some theorists tend to view performance as a translation because it is not equal
to the original. Marvin argues that valuing either the written play or the performance causes the other
to have less value. He believes that both the text and performance have value. The two concepts also
compliment each other. Marvin comments that performance can provide a visual element that the
script lacks, which results in several different types of performances. According to Marvin,
performances allow for different interpretations of the text, which allows people to return to the same

The Shakespeare Conspiracy Theory
William Shakespeare, by far one of the greatest playwrights of all time, is clouded with controversy.
Rumors run rampant that he was nothing more than a non de plume for someone who wished to keep
the anonymity of his identity. There have been names such as Edward De Vere the 17th Earl of
Oxford, Sir Francis Bacon, even Queen Elizabeth herself was among those thought to be the true
writer of the plays and poems.
To start from the beginning of the controversy, the earliest actual documentation of such findings
began in 1785 by an oxford scholar named James Wilmot. It was here that when James came up empty
handed of any evidence of Shakespeare s plays did he come to the conclusion that it had to have been
someone else and that someone was Sir Francis Bacon. James however never reported anything and
on his deathbed actually destroyed his writings, but not before telling a fellow scholar, James Corton
Cowell, his findings. Cowell would leave and make a presentation to the Ipswich Philosophic Society,
and so began the greatest mystery of whether William Shakespeare was a famous playwright or a
fraud taking credit for the work of someone else.
The search for evidence to either prove or disprove this conspiracy has been one of the hardest
searches I have ever had to do. I searched countless sites and countless books to find at least one
negative or positive piece of evidence other than just speculation and one side arguing against another
on the true author.

The Introduction of Prohibition
Prohibition was introduced in 1920 as part of an amendment to the Constitution of the USA. It was
introduced for a variety of different reasons including a wartime concern for preserving grain for food
rather than for brewing and distilling. There were also feelings against the German Americans, who
were responsible for brewing and distilling, at a time when America was at war against Germany
which also let the Anti Saloon league influence the general public before the main objectors, the men,

prohibition would succeed was the cost of alcohol so people may have used the law as an opportunity
to give up alcohol without seeming odd to others. Moreover, this problem would not prevent wealthy
Americans from trying to purchase alcohol because they had the money to do it without sending their
family into the downwards spiral of poverty. Also, to begin with the level of enforcement for the law
was so high that even if people did not support the law, the prohibition commissioners could have
worked hard to dispose of alcohol whilst gathering support. However, this hard work soon ended
when the commissioners, along with the police, politicians, magistrates, party officials and clerks,
began to accept bribes from gangsters and the owners of speakeasies to ignore the activities that were

Balance Sheet and Goodwill
Goodwill is an intangible asset, probably the most intangible of all intangible assets, hard to measure
and even more difficult to account for. Goodwill today constitutes a much larger part of acquisition
prices than it did previously, resulting in a much greater impact on financial statements.
During the twentieth century the concept of goodwill has changed significantly. In the earlier days
goodwill was thought of as the good and valuable relationships of a proprietor of a business with his
customers. The present concept is broader in that it encompasses many more intangible economic
factors of a business enterprise and accountants now consider that goodwill results from the evaluation
of the earning power of a business by investors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is no wonder that managements, in order to avoid this reduction in reportable earnings, frequently
opt to use the pooling of interest method when they complete a merger. Since no goodwill is created,
over eager managers are able to pay outrageous prices for acquisitions with little or no accountability
on the balance sheet. Since it makes no sense to have two different ways for accounting for a merger,
the FASB decided they should eliminate the pooling of interest method and force all transactions to be
done via the purchase method. Executives and politicians claimed this will significantly reduce the
number of mergers since the new standards would cause reportable earnings to drop as soon as a
company had completed an acquisition. As a concession, the FASB will no longer require goodwill to
be written off unless the assets became impaired (which means it becomes clear that the goodwill is
not worth what the company paid for it).
The FASB s six members unanimously approved two new accounting standards on Friday July 23,
2001. Financial Accounting Statement 141 will eliminate the pooling of interest method for booking
mergers. The method had been popular with dealmakers because it allowed companies to do deals at a
premium without marking up their assets. These markups inflate the size of future amortization
expenses and depressed reported earnings, supporters of pooling said. The FASB also passed Financial
Accounting Statement 142 a closely related standard

Marc Chagall
Marc Chagall as an artist and as a person cannot be categorized. He was born in Vitebsk, Russia,
learned to paint in St. Petersburg and lived in Paris, Berlin, and the United States. His career is
influenced by many different factors. His Hasidic Jewish upbringing reflected in the content of his
paintings greatly. The lyrical fairy tales of Jewish mysticism, the stories of the Bible, and the Rabbis
and scholars who surrounded him in his childhood come out onto his work. When he went to art

art.

Chagall in order to continue painting used a patterned tablecloth instead of a canvas. He did not
disguise this surface but retained elements of it in his composition. You can see the pattern over the
fiddler s shoulder and on his leg. He has the fiddler floating in mid air with the town below him above
and beside him. The different buildings in the town are arranged in geometric shapes and lines. The
most important thing as in all Chagall compositions is the symbolism. The fiddler symbolizes severa!l
things at once, a memory from Chagall s childhood, from his homeland and on a personal level
himself. His childhood memory was that of his uncle Neuch who didn t play the violin very well but
who was enthusiastic when he played it. Its wider Russian significance is that of the failed revolution
of 1905. The leader of this revolution was a Jewish fiddler named Edouard Sormus, who led workers
through the streets to fight for their rights. Chagall saw himself in the fiddler, a solitary individual,
isolated by the strangeness and mystery of art. The whole build up of the painting reinforces the
poetical dimension of the picture. This painting was important to Chagall. He used the symbol of the
fiddler in other composition, for example The Violinist (1911), and The Green Violinist (1923 24).
Another major work of his, the painting I and the Village (1911 1914) suggests the complexities of
opposition and unity, the confrontation

Megan s Law Case
History Megan s Law is named after a girl, Megan Kanka, who at only 7 years old was kidnapped,
sexually assaulted then murdered in cold blood. The man who did this had a prior conviction for
sexual assault. The murderer, Jesse Timmendequas moved across the street from Megan and her
family. He was sentenced to death but never got put to death because on December 17, 2007 the New
Jersey Legislature abolished the death penalty. His new sentence was life in prison without any
possibility of parole. However, they did not have the proper resources to know about his criminal
history. Megan s Law is a legislation that exists in the United States. It requires individuals that are
convicted in sex crimes involving children or minors to register in the database containing all the
names of all known and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance of protecting the safety of the public and most importantly, the children is a lot higher
than the offenders right to privacy. According to a study done by Expert Law, the biggest raised
concern is the fear of vigilantism. That is, law enforcement undertaken without legal authority by a
self appointed group of people. The fear was if neighbors learned about a sex offender s presence in
their neighborhood and decided to force them out or cause physical harm, which is illegal. Violent acts
against offenders are uncommon.
Megan s Law comes with the disadvantage that it discourages many sex offenders from participating
in the registry due to the fear factor of them being attacked or looked at differently in their
neighborhood. Even though it is a felony offense to fail to register on Megan s Law, around 20% of
offenders do not comply with the registration requirement. The United Kingdom does not have public
disclosure laws. A study was performed in 2001 that stated a very high 97% compliance with
registering without

Call Of Duty Black Op 3 Analysis
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Collector s Edition Sells Out Quickly Call of Duty has managed to become
one of the most popular video game franchises in recent years, staying on the cutting edge of graphics
and finding a way to resonate with many hardcore and casual gamers alike. It s accumulated not just a
large fanbase, but one that has stuck with it and proven it will pay a lot of money for anything even
tangentially related to the game. It only makes sense that Activision would want to go big for the
upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. A new premium, collector s edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
has already sold out at many of the most prominent retailers before the game s release, and even
before the release of the beta. What makes this

Affirmative Action Definition
Affirmative action was first created in 1961 and was signed by President John F. Kennedy, with intent
to improve the lives of those who tend to suffer from discrimination. Court rulings have upheld
affirmative action policies, we have seen examples of this in court but also in employment
opportunities and school admission processes.
Affirmative action policies have continued to be supported in court rulings. The final rulings of
Regents of the University of California v. Bakke (1978) are significant as they allowed race to be one
of the several factors allowed in college admission policies. Allan Bakke, a thirty five year old white
man, applied twice to the University of California Medical School in Davis. Although his

Casey Anthony Case
Casey Anthony is an Ohio born and Florida raised woman that had a daughter named Caylee Anthony
be born on August 9, 2005. In the summer of June 2008, following a major argument with her parents,
Cindy and George Anthony, who were questioning her suitability as a mother figure, Casey left her
parents home with Caylee. Over the next couple of weeks, Cindy kept reaching out to Casey
concerned about both her and Caylee s whereabouts. Every time Casey was inquired about Caylee, she
would report that Caylee was out under the care of her nanny, Zenaida Fernandez Gonzalez. Nothing
seemed amiss until July 13, 2008 when George and Cindy received a notice that Casey s car was
currently being held in a tow yard. Upon their arrival to pick up the car, ... Show more content on

The first responders immediately recognized the stench of human decomposition, as well as Casey s
father a detective. Furthermore, the smell was confirmed by a cadaver dog and I highly doubt a trained
cadaver dog would mistake the stench of moldy food with the odor of decomposed human remains.
Lastly, I find the testimony of Dr. Vass to be highly compelling given he is the founder of the DOA
technique which he based on his research at the body barn. If there is any place where you can find
some reliable techniques regarding human decomposition, I would presume it would be here.
Unfortunately, this analysis was barely new around the time of the trial, so its lack of total acceptance
in the scientific community created, in my opinion, a hole in the prosecutor s case and gave some light
toward the defense of Casey since you could deem Dr. Vass findings to be

The Role Of Indo-European Imperialism In Indonesia
Indonesia is a country made up of more than seventeen thousand islands. As part of Southeast Asia, it
lies between the Indian and Pacific oceans. For more than 300 years, Indonesia was a Dutch colony.
Japan invaded and occupied the islands in 1942, during the second World War. Throughout the three
years of Japanese occupation, some 42,000 Dutch military personnel were imprisoned and more than
100,000 Dutch colonials who could not prove Indonesian descent were forced into concentration
camps. As European women were almost nonexistent on the islands, many Dutchmen married native
women. The offspring of these mixed Indo European unions; these Eurasians who felt the same
loyalty to the Netherlands as their white fathers, had full rights as Dutch citizens, were Christians and
followed Dutch customs, suffered more than any other during the Japanese occupation. According to a
selective process, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A four year struggle known as the Indonesian National Revolution followed. After liberation from the
Japanese, Dutch government high officials felt that the Indonesians were ill prepared to govern
themselves, notwithstanding that maintaining the colonies after the war was a heavy financial burden
for Holland, where Industry was completely demolished by the Germans. The Dutch government s
financial priority was focused on rebuilding their own infrastructure. Nevertheless, under tremendous
political pressure from the American government, the Dutch finally granted Indonesia complete
independence and after ten weeks of negotiations, on November 2, 1949, an agreement finally
transferred Dutch rule to Indonesia, with Queen Juliana of the Netherlands residing as the ceremonial
head of a new Netherlands Indonesian Union and Achmed Sukarno as President of

  • 2. WHITE BLOOD CELLS White Blood Cells Bacteria exist everywhere in the environment and have continuous access to the body through the mouth, nose and pores of skin. Further more, many cells age and die daily and their remains must be removed, this is where the white blood cell plays its role. According to this quotation, without white blood cells, also known as leukocytes, we would not be able to survive. White blood cells are our body s number one defense against infections. They help keep us clean from foreign bacteria that enter our bodies. Statistics show that there are five to ten thousand white blood cells per micro liter of blood, however this number will increase during an illness. White blood cells can differ in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These white blood cells are similar to Neutrophil because they attack bacteria by the immune system. This particular group of white blood cells is extremely important in my body, because they are prominent at sites of allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis. The nucleus of Eosinphil is made of two lobes, and implanted in the cytoplasm are large, red orange granules, and the diameter of them is on average about twelve to fifteen µm. The third type of granular leukocytes is called, basophil. Basophil s major function is, secretion. They tend to have a diameter of 12 15 µm. These cells make up only about one percent of the total population of white blood cells, causing them to be much more difficult to detect. These cells secrete both histamine and heparin. Histamine draws blood into the damaged area, while heparin slows clotting so that more blood can enter the damaged area. There are two different kinds of agranular white cells. One is called monocyte, and the other is called lymphocyte. The major function of monocyte is, phagocytosis. These cells more very quickly and are therefore able to consume bacteria and dead tissue at a fast rate. Monocytes have an average diameter of, 12 17 µm, and they make up about 3 8 percent of our leukocyte s population. Lymphocytes, major function are immunity. His verbal orders were vague and he continually bypassed the 1st Armored Division commander, MG Ward, so as to deal directly with the combat commanders. His orders were based solely (Nidorest) on directive and not from the information on hand. He regularly ignored the advice of his subordinates. d. It was a complete disaster for the Allied Forces and large victory for the Axis powers. It set a tone for further engagements along the western front of the Tunisian invasion. Only the lack of clear unity of command between the Italians and Germany allowed the offensive to stall. 4. ASSESS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ACTION: a. Relate causes to effects. The US doctrine relating to the use of tanks and tank destroyers was flawed, furthermore unit commanders failed to both properly exercise the doctrine and adapt to the realities of war. This lead to a total failure in our ability to properly engage and defeat the German forces. A lack of good intelligence and the inability to properly utilize the intelligence we had made it impossible to properly position our forces prior to the battle starting. Furthermore it greatly reduced our ability to reinforce our front lines and counter the German attacks. b. Establish military lessons learned. Doctrine should be fluid, it must be allowed to adapt and change as the situation dictates. You cannot allow yourself to get stuck in a singular mindset about how war is fought. It s also called the Yukon Gold Rush, the Last Great Gold Rush and the Alaska Gold Rush. Gold was discovered in many rich deposits along the Klondike River in 1896, but due to the remoteness of the region and the harsh winter climate the news of gold couldn t travel fast enough to reach the outside world before the following year. • 5. Barack Obama s The Audacity Of Hope On July 27, 2004, Barack Obama arguably made his greatest speech, The Audacity of Hope , at the Democratic National Convention Keynote Address. All the way through his piece, Obama focuses on connecting himself to Americans. However, Barack Obama was a US Senate candidate for the United States president, and in making this speech, uses this connection to raise his reputation rather than to simply amuse the audience. Throughout The Audacity of Hope speech, Barack Obama implements three main devices to raise his political popularity: abstract language, repetition, and structure. Part of The Audacity of Hope is Obama s use of abstract words, which help to associate the piece to everyone s individual view of these words. In other words, since abstract words have no explicit definitions, the words fit to the person who defines them. Obama states, John Kerry believes in the Constitutional freedoms that have made our country the envy of the world, and he will never sacrifice our basic liberties, nor use faith as a wedge to divide us. In this sentence, Obama uses the words freedoms , sacrifice , liberties , and faith to describe John Kerry and what he does. By using these abstract words, Obama creates a perfect American image, one that stands for everything America stands for. This is powerful. By comparing a person to a highly symbolic figure, such as the United States, Obama invokes high emotions among the audience, or the pathos of the piece, which he then puts onto ... • 6. Thomas Hooker And Reverend Samuel Stone The history of Hartford begins with Thomas Hooker s arrival in Newtown (later renamed Cambridge) Massachusetts where he became a pastor of one of the earliest established churches there. However, voting in Massachusetts was limited to freemen or limited to people who had been formally interrogated on their religious views and experiences. Hooker disagreed with these limitations and their influential pastor, John Cotton. So, Thomas Hooker and Reverend Samuel Stone led a group of one hundred people in 1636 and founded the settlement of Hartford. Which then led to the founding of the Connecticut Colony and Hookers increased involvement in politics. On January 14, 1639 freemen from the three colonies that made up the Connecticut Colony sat down and ratified the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut which was called the first written constitution known to history that created a government. It marked the beginnings of American democracy, of which Thomas Hooker deserves more than any other man to be called the father. The government of the United States today is in lineal descent more nearly related to that of Connecticut than to that of any of the other thirteen colonies (John Fiske). Having been founded on such prestige Hartford has seen some of the greatest successes and some of the worst failures. For example, Hartford claimed leader in both the industrial industry and insurance industry. Hartford houses some of the most famous insurance agencies and firearm factories. ... The Word of God then warns not to be fooled by Satan or his lies (James 1:16). Our faith and love in God who first loved us (1 John 4:19) can shield the fiery darts of wickedness hurled by Satan, the real source of temptation (Ephesians 6:16). James 1:17 continues by naming God as the source of every good and perfect gift from above. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures (James 1:18, NKJV). The excerpt points to the sacrifice, redemption and love of Jesus Christ who said, As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love (John 15:9, KJV). Conclusion In summary, marketers will be challenged daily and would be wise to take heed to spiritual instruction: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons (Colossians 3:23 25, KJV). It is the attitude and character of society to hate those who wrong them and rid their hearts of trust afterwards. When comparing and contrasting the character of Gimpel and the character of society today, the intent and full meaning of the short story, Gimpel the Fool, is shown to the readers. Gimpel is portrayed as someone who is easily misled and would believe most anything told to him. It is the nature of someone in society to repay evil for evil. It was once said, An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind (Hall, Karyn). The struggle with revenge is centuries old. Shakespeare said, If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us shall we not revenge? Shakespeare clearly thought revenge was as normal and predictable as the sun rising (Hall, Karyn). Gimple s character differs greatly from this vengeful human nature. He forgave easily and accepted the fact that people are entitled to mistakes. An example of this is found when Gimple and Elka were separated. Gimpel had found her lying with another man and the Rabbi separated them until a divorce could be arranged. While Gimple was alone and was pondering upon this predicament, he said to himself, There is bound to be a slip sometimes. You cannot live without errors. Probably that lad who was with her led her on and gave her presents and what not, and women are often long on hair and short on sense, and so he got around her (singer, Isaac). Gimpel chose to be forgiving, instead of seeking revenge. This is far from the natural reply of mankind. Singer reveals the need for forgiveness by showing this immense contrast ... The story is set up in the 17th century in Puritan Boston Massachusets and it mainly focuses on the life of a woman, Hester Prynne and how she struggles to gain respect from the community after having committed adultery. Throughout the book, themes such as sin, isolation, and judgment are explored. Hawthorne uses the theme of judgment to convey ideas about the strictness of the puritan society. Consumers, communities, and the environment are key stakeholders the auto industry has to consider when it comes to pollution. More energy efficient, hybrid or electric vehicles can increase customer satisfaction and add to the company s business performance. For instance, fuel consumption is an assumption of performance and is very important for consumers. Thus, automotive companies have to come up with great designs with minimal consumption of resources and raw materials; engines that give more mileage and less fuel consumption. Given that consumers are the most important stakeholders, communities of these consumers also want vehicles with the lowest emissions possible with hopes of keeping the air around them clean and healthy. Once again, these informal bands and communities of consumers have large amounts of power based on buying power alone, and can significantly impact an automobile company s business. A vehicle s environmental impact can be easily measured through miles per gallon and measures of emissions. In 2011, President Barrack Obama and automobile companies agreed to raise fuel efficiency standards to meet an average of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. This will lead to more fuel efficient vehicles that will consume less gas, thus burning less fuel and emitting fewer emissions into the air. Also, according to the Obama administration, this ... Standard Coding Theory Project Report EE 653 CODING THEORY PROJECT REPORT REDUCING THE GAP TO CAPACITY OF A RATE 1/3 CODE VIA CONVOLUTIONAL ENCODING/DECODING ARUN PRAKASH NACHIMUTHU MARIA HASHMI ABSTRACT In this project we are trying to minimize the gap to capacity of a channel given by Shannon s theoretical limit of a rate 1/3 code. This is done through a convolutional encoding/decoding by varying memory elements for both soft and hard decision decoding. The basic concepts associated with the convolution code with its encoding and decoding schemes are used in this project. Using Shannon s optimal code we compare the gap to capacity of the algorithm that is implemented. Finally we show that the gap to capacity can be minimized with respect to the sub optimal un coded code word or a 1/3 repetition code. Emotional intelligence is a term that Daniel Goleman coined to describe a bundle of psychological attributes that many strong and effective leaders exhibit (Hill, Jones, Schilling, 2014, p. 32). As described by Hill et al. (2014), emotional intelligence incorporates self awareness, self regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills (p. 32). In contrast, Covey (2002) lists only empathy and awareness as one of his ten characteristics of servant leaders. Daniel Goleman also goes on to mention that leaders who have these traits are more successful than those who do not. In Goleman s view, people respect leaders who, because they are self aware, recognize their own limitations and, because they are self regulating, consider decisions carefully (Hill et al., 2014, p. 32). The Factors And Negative Consequences Of Police Porruption Police corruption has negative consequences on the society, thus, it is important to investigate the factors that cause police corruption. The present essay aims to explore the factors that cause police corruption and its intervention. Police corruption is believed to be an organisational deviance rather than an individual misbehaviour. Police officers are considered clean when they join the police organisation and their deviant behaviours might be induced by police culture. The employment of slack management with low control and norms of secrecy of police corruption in police organisations are factors that lead to police corruption. • 28. How Does Temperature Affect The Permeability Of The Plasma... Introduction Membranes contain phospholipid bilayer these are two layers of phospholipids which are facing in opposite directions to each other. The non polar tails are hydrophobic which are water hating, what makes it difficult for polar molecules/ions to pass through them are the fatty acid tails which also act as a barrier to water soluble substances. These molecules move in and out of the cell by diffusion, osmosis and active transport. Diffusion is the net movement of particles down a concentration gradient for example when gases move about and will move from where there is a high concentration to where they are in lower concentration. By osmosis, the diffusion of water through the plasma membrane is possible because the lipids bilayers are water resistant to important molecules and small molecules like oxygen and carbon dioxide, these molecules and ions diffuse freely across the cell membrane. By active transport, ions and molecules are forced using metabolic energy to move against their concentrated gradient. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Exemptionalist, environmentalist, universe and judgement day are a few known and existing concepts. Initially, exemptionalists are the people who believes that humankind should stop worrying because they can withstand all the situations. On the other hand, environmentalists are the people who believes humankind is a part of nature so they point out that humankind is related to environment directly, hence humankind is affected by all the problems associated with the environment. Universe is the place where everything stays and occurs in. The day of judgement is the time many religions accept that God will end the life which we live. Mainly theories about end of the world can be separated into three groups which are the end by the human based problems, physical destruction of universe and the order of God. This model assumes that there are five forces that determine the competition facing an industry. The tool is powerful in understanding where competition lies in current industry situation. The model below describes the five force competition. The carbonated soft drink industry is highly competitive in all countries with Coca Cola and Pepsi having almost 70% market share of the world. The quickly developing nature of the Chinese carbonated soft drinks market has given the aggressive scene a significant help. All areas developed somewhere around 1999 and 2003, and despite the fact that development in a few segments is backing off, especially in the carbonates area, there are a considerable measure of chances for organizations to help their pieces of the pie by spreading into developing areas. The interpretations and approaches taken to the subject of tyranny and how to protect against it, though, were as varied as the collection of authors who addressed it. Mill seeks to describe how in the past, protection against the tyranny of political rulers was necessary to ensure the liberty of individuals, but the problem now has evolved from tyrannical political leaders to an oppressive public that may desire to oppress a part of their number (Mill 7). Similar to Mill, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels make the subject of tyranny the focus of The Communist Manifesto; choosing to utilize the manifesto to dissect the tyrannical ways that the bourgeoisie operates in society. He discusses the conflict theorists dealt with when they wanted to perform Shakespeare s plays. Some theorists believed that Shakespeare s texts were a magnificent work on their own and that any performance needed to be as close to the text as possible. This caused theorists to regard performance as unnecessary since it had the potential to ruin the text. These types of theorist try to treat both the written and performance portion of plays equally. However, Marvin argues that is not necessarily what happens. Rumors run rampant that he was nothing more than a non de plume for someone who wished to keep the anonymity of his identity. There have been names such as Edward De Vere the 17th Earl of Oxford, Sir Francis Bacon, even Queen Elizabeth herself was among those thought to be the true writer of the plays and poems. To start from the beginning of the controversy, the earliest actual documentation of such findings began in 1785 by an oxford scholar named James Wilmot. It was here that when James came up empty handed of any evidence of Shakespeare s plays did he come to the conclusion that it had to have been someone else and that someone was Sir Francis Bacon. James however never reported anything and on his deathbed actually destroyed his writings, but not before telling a fellow scholar, James Corton Cowell, his findings. Cowell would leave and make a presentation to the Ipswich Philosophic Society, and so began the greatest mystery of whether William Shakespeare was a famous playwright or a fraud taking credit for the work of someone else. Moreover, this problem would not prevent wealthy Americans from trying to purchase alcohol because they had the money to do it without sending their family into the downwards spiral of poverty. Goodwill today constitutes a much larger part of acquisition prices than it did previously, resulting in a much greater impact on financial statements. During the twentieth century the concept of goodwill has changed significantly. It is no wonder that managements, in order to avoid this reduction in reportable earnings, frequently opt to use the pooling of interest method when they complete a merger. Since no goodwill is created, over eager managers are able to pay outrageous prices for acquisitions with little or no accountability on the balance sheet. Since it makes no sense to have two different ways for accounting for a merger, the FASB decided they should eliminate the pooling of interest method and force all transactions to be done via the purchase method. Executives and politicians claimed this will significantly reduce the number of mergers since the new standards would cause reportable earnings to drop as soon as a company had completed an acquisition. As a concession, the FASB will no longer require goodwill to be written off unless the assets became impaired (which means it becomes clear that the goodwill is not worth what the company paid for it). The FASB s six members unanimously approved two new accounting standards on Friday July 23, 2001. Financial Accounting Statement 141 will eliminate the pooling of interest method for booking mergers. The method had been popular with dealmakers because it allowed companies to do deals at a premium without marking up their assets.
