Cyber Bullying And Its Effect On Today s Youth
Studies have shown that cyberbullying incidents have quadrupled in the last five years.
Cyber bullying has become a huge issue recently. It is despairing to turn on the news
everyday and watching reports going on about bullying and the number of suicides such
has lead to. Love is Louder has been a phrase commonly used by celebrities to send out
a message not only to fans but to humanity proving that bullying is not righteous and should
not be tolerated. The more the communication through technology expands and widens, the
more bullies torture their innocent victims. The fact is that technology is somehow not being
used for the precise matter, so we need to figure out a way to put an end to cyber bullies
injudicious actions. Cyberbullying is becoming a radical obstacle and we all need to do our
parts to building a mindful perspective of what can be done to stop cyber bullies ones in for all.
Cyber bullies will continue to be a threat to today s youth until we take preventative
measures against them. Before terminating cyberbullying we must first perceive why and
how a cyber bully works. After researching and analyzing explanatory articles on such topic,
this research paper aims to inform and answer the following questions: What a cyber bully Nunez 2
is, how they work, whom they target,

Coming To America Passage Analysis
Welcoming. Belonging. Sense of Purpose. Everyone wants that. Without it we feel naked,
incomplete. Ultimately, it is what mankind really strives for. While food, water, and shelter are
important, there is no purpose to life without that sense of belonging. Kao and her family never
really felt belonged anywhere, and they struggled to feel a sense of purpose in their home .
My favorite passage in the book, is when Kao is telling her story of her adjustment of coming to
America. This passage is part of the third section of the book, The American Years. In the section,
Kao and her family had just arrived in their new tiny home in Saint Paul, Minnesota. While they
had training of what to expect from America, it did not prepare them well enough for what was to
come. Their arrival was anything but welcoming as they were greeted with ... Show more content on

In the passage, Kao says, For the first year and a half, we wanted to be invisible (112). This is
my favorite passage because it is really jaw dropping to see that after all Kao and her family had
been through they wanted to stay invisible in America for the first year and a half that they were
afraid of being who they are, Hmong. Back in their old home they were accustomed to frequent
bombings, disease, malnourishment, and so much physical pain. But here, their biggest fear
being in the US is the hatred and racism that is targeted on them. Day after day it s a struggle for
Kao s family. For many immigrants, America has always been projected as the Golden Gate . A
place where one would no longer struggle for their family and if you worked hard enough one can
accomplish anything. Malnourishment, clean air, and safety would no longer keep you up at
night. And at the start of Kao s American journey, it was hard to see if any positive opportunity
would arise. But it would, as they didn t let the hard work or racism get to them. Kao s parents

Celebrity Activism

Activism Awareness Do you think celebrity activism is a positive or negative thing? That s the
question. To me, I think celebrity activism has a very positive effect on society and should become
more popular. More celebrities should become activists because activists have a long successful
history, celebrity activism helps draw attention to all different kinds of issues activism gives
celebrities an opportunity to use their wealth for the good of something greater than themselves.
Celebrity activism really helps out the less fortunate and gives back to the community. Since a lot
of celebrities got their fame from the fans paparazzi, they should be thanking them anyways. As you

Ken Wilson Psychedelic Art
Tripping Over Hazy Art
From trippy patterns to wildly vibrant typography, the psychedelic art style was absolutely endless.
The unique art movement was at its best from 1966 to 1972. Although there were many memorable
artists at this time, Wes Wilson was known for being the father of the 60 s rock concert posters.
Psychedelic art was just about everybody s obsession in the 1960 s because of its unorthodox style
and artists that were a part of it. Throughout the 1960 s there were many fads and trends, but one of
the most creative ones was the idea of psychedelic art. The word psychedelic comes from the Greek
words psyche and delos , which means mind manifesting or soul manifesting. (network9.biz) And

In an interview hosted by CNN, author Ken Johnson stated: I think any work of art encourages
you to imagine your way into a state of consciousness that may not be your normal state, so you
kind of suspend disbelief and allow yourself to be imaginatively seduced into a different way of
relating to the world so that you study things more carefully, you think about how things are
affecting you. Johnson also stated, but they start thinking about how our perceptions work and
how interesting it is the way we think about the world, so we think about our thinking. This
proves that in the 60 s many people discovered that drugs, such as LSD, were a way to see the
deeper meaning behind things because it rearranged the whole way your brain may have thought.
Another reason that psychedelic art was so popular in the 60 s was because all of the art pieces,
more specifically rock concert posters, they tried to visually express the feeling of tripping out.
(visualartsdepartment.wordpress.com) An article on arthistory.net titled Psychedelic Art, says that
many of these art pieces were also popular because of their visually captivating styles. Obviously,
many people enjoyed these feelings because they could avoid mainstream thinking without having
to actually use said drugs. The 60 s were a period of experimenting, not only with art, but with
things like fashion to music

The Struggle Life In Tillie Olsen s I Stand Here Ironing
Throughout every story, every author had reflected their particular own life as themes in their
stories where the character considers about authors regular life like family, friends, works and the
media. Most authors can relate their life experiences as an important theme that resemble the
character s stories where they recall their past memories in their life from the cheerful recollections
where they feel the excitement with their parents or friends to depression and painful memories that
they persevered to withstand their long year to comprehend the reality of life like The Lady With
the Dog by Anton Chekhovand A Wall of Fire Rising by Edwidge Danticat
. Others have a tendency
to clarify about the media that are similar to their own life, for instance, racism from Recitatif by
Toni Morrison. One specific story that identified with the author s struggle life was I Stand Here
Ironing by Tillie Olsen. Various characters and events from Olsen s life influenced the story and its
characters and themes. Olsen has revealed the theme of the story is the burden of motherhood
which she relate to her struggle life as a mother. This specific detail demonstrates the author s life
fills in as an inspiration to her composition and impact the work. In the story, I Stand Here Ironing,
the author, Tillie Olsen introduces the role of a compassionate mother that society anticipates

Ohm s law resistors in parallel in series
Lab 4
Class: PHY 1434 E475
Due date: March, 13 20144
Group Names: Hisham Sageer
Objectives:
Our object is to confirm Ohm s law by analyzing the dependence of the electrical current as a
function of voltage and as a function of resistance. Also, we studied the current flow and voltage in
series and parallel. Finally, the lab determined the equivalence resistance of series and parallel
combination of resistors and compared the results with theoretical data.
Theoretical Background:

Essay on Satire in Lysistrata
Satire in Lysistrata
Satire is a literary manner built on wit and humor with a critical attitude directed to human
institutions and humanity. A successful satiric play will show certain truths about society and then
try to improve upon them. Satire is meant to be constructive rather than destructive. Aristophanes
uses satire in Lysistrata to convey many different themes such as war and peace, the struggles of
power and class, and the life and death issues that are seen in war. Satire is successfully used and
seen in Lysistrata by stereotyping women in general and then the different classes of women as

According to Einarsen et al. (2011: 15), Bullying at work means harassing, offending, socially
excluding someone or negatively affecting someone s work tasks . Research discloses that a
large number of employees face continuous bullying (Keashly and Harvey, 2006). As per studies
(Leymann, 1996), bullying has to occur at least once a week for six months to be considered as
bullying (Branch et al., 2013: 281). There are different types of bullying in an organization.
Einarsen (1999), also states that bullying can be dispute related and predatory. Bullying are
caused by several reasons related to bully s psychological problems, beliefs, fears, career goals.
Reasons of bullying depends upon seniority of bully insecurity of the bully territorial tendency of

Characteristics, Issues And Trends Of The Region From An...
This report has been conducted on the East Asia region based on the information provided by the
universities of Kansas State and Massey. The focus of this report is to identify and describe
important characteristics, issues and trends of the region from an agricultural perspective. To
provide an introduction and insight first a brief summary of East Asiawill be provided.
East Asia includes approximately 15 countries, within this there is a population of 1.974 billion
people. Of the total population 51% live within rural areas resulting in agriculture making up
11% of GDP, which is considerably more than the likes of the US (1% of GDP). There is
considerable diversity between countries within East Asia. There are major differences between
country s GDP per capita and economic development, resulting in distinctive high, middle and
low per capita GDP groups as shown in figure 1. New Zealand in comparison would be in the
high per capita group with a GDP of $36,200. The East Asia countries in which agriculture makes
up largest proportion of their GDP are within the lower to middle GDP band and are Vietnam with
22%, Indonesia with 15% and Thailand with 12%. Whereas in comparison to the likes of Japan
who has the highest GDP per capita within the region, agriculture only represents 1%. It can also be
seen that the risk of investment increases in East Asia as incomes reduce and that the middle
income countries have considerable growth potential.

The Warning Signs Of Abuse
Domestic Violence is a common pattern of aggressive behavior inside the family, typically between
intimate partners. This type of violence includes not only physical abuse but also sexual abuse,
psychological/emotional abuse, and financial abuse. According to the CDC on average, 20 people
per minute are victims of physical violenceby an intimate partner in the United States. Over the
course of a year, that equals more than 10 million women and men ( The National ). In this
paper, I will discuss the warning signs of abuse, how the abuser justifies his actions, why victims
stay in abusive relationships, and how the victims can protect themselves. The first step is to
recognize the warning signs of abuse. There are a lot of signs of abuse like being humiliated in
public, being called names like stupid or bitch, being controlled in every way or being forced to
have sex etc. Abusers don t show the same violent behavior due to the fact that every relationship
and person is different. However, there is one thing that all abusers share and that is the need to
impose their control over their victims, this is the main purpose of domestic violence. It is also
common for abuse to escalate very slowly, making it difficult for the victim to become aware of
how severe it has become, even though it is patently obvious to those around him or her. In the
abuser s mind, the violent behavior is completely justifiable and they have several reasons to
support their analysis. First the

By the late eighteenth century, the New World, which was still remote, had formed its own
complicated individual and national identities. Moreover, the disparate communities within Latin
America had established a unique culture characterized by its hybridity. A close reading of

hybridity. Additionally, both objects specifically express Latin American hybridity for a white,

Essay on The Cherokee Trail of Tears
With the discovery of the New World came a whole lot of new problems. Native American Indians
lived in peace and harmony until European explorers interrupted that bliss with the quest for money
and power. The European explorers brought with them more people. These people and their
descendants starting pushing the natives out of their homes, out of their land, far before the 1800s.
However, in the 1800s, the driving force behind the removal of the natives intensified. Thousands of
indians during this time were moved along the trail known as Nunna dual Tsung, meaning The Trail
Where They Cried ( CherokeeTrail of Tears). The Trail of Tears was not only unjust and

In 1835, the Treaty of Echota was negotiated by President Jackson and Major Ridge along with
self appointed representatives of the Cherokee Nation (History). These representatives of the
Cherokee Nation were known as the Treaty Party and totaled about 100 people. The council of
the Cherokee Nation had previously passed a law that stated that anyone who gave up their
ancestral land would be put to death. So by signing this treaty, most of the Treaty Party would be
put to death upon arrival to their new land ( A Brief History ). For the treaty to pass, it had to be
ratified by the United States Senate. Henry Clay and Daniel Webster spoke against the treaty,
but despite their best efforts, it passed. Chief John Ross led the Ross Party that was made up of
those against the removal and Treaty of Echota. More than 16,000 Cherokee Indians of 17,000
signed Ross s petition against the treaty. That means over 94 percent of the indians were against
the treaty used by the United States government to justify their actions against the native
Cherokee people. The Treaty of Echota sealed the fate of the people despite the fact that they
were unfairly represented (History). The Treaty of Echota gave up all the indian land east of the

were also promised things they would lose including livestock, tools, and other

Social development: Sharing The children will respectfully share materials during play.
This developmental object was displayed through the Hot potato (share the animal) activity. The
activity consisted of a sharing action, by passing on the different animal to the next preschooler. I
believe that the objective was achieved though this activity, as except one child was eventually able
to pass along the animals properly. For example, in blue group six preschooler automatically

As I read the book about sharing and taking turns, I asked the preschoolers to describe what they
see and how the characters are feeling. The objective was only partially achieved in the yellow
group as I did not give an introduction explaining my book. This mistake could of possibly made
it more difficult for the children to describe the scenario in the story, as they did not know what
to focus on. On the other hand, I did ask questions throughout the book, prompting children to use
descriptive words to describe how the characters were feeling. For example, F.W was able to
explain and use descriptive words when answering my questions throughout the book, but at the
end of the book she was not able to describe the main theme. All eight children reacted the same
way. This is my fault as I did not specify where the preschoolers should maintain their focus.
Therefore, my second time implementing the activity allowed all eight children in the blue group
to fully achieve the objective, as I made sure to be more clear about what the children should focus
on, helping them interact and understand more thoroughly. Overall, the children reacted well to the
book as I used different tones to keep them

Stokely Carmichael Black Power
What is Black Power? Black power is a movement lead by Stokely Carmichael which promoted
the idea of black empowerment and creating a community where blacks feel comfortable in. It
implies self determination and self motivation. This means blacks should not rely on white
authority to fix racial issues but rather take matters into their own hands. It is a call for blacks to
define their own goals. This was not only meant as freedom from white authority but also as
economical and political independence. In this way Black Power was taking control of the
future of blacks in both economical and political ways and establishing a community in which
they will not have to suffer living as second class citizens. Black power also encouraged blacks to
have pride in their racial heritage and be proud to be black. A way of promoting this was by
using the slogan Black is Beautiful , to get people to see the beauty of being black and not to be
ashamed of their prominent black features. Stokely Carmichael encouraged this form of Black
Pride by saying... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Introduction
Keurig, Inc. was founded on excellence , which is the Dutch meaning of its name, and the
innovative principle of allowing consumers to be able to make a single excellent cup of coffee
whenever they wanted it at home or work with their K cup single cup brewing system. The Keurig
system was such a hit in offices that the company knew the next step was to position themselves to
sell units to individuals for use in their homes. At home coffee brewers were always faced with two
things loose coffee grounds to clean up and coffee that never quite tasted right. The Keurig system
would eliminate both of those issues for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The system allows consumers to buy a variety of coffee and make a cup of coffee that has the
quality like the one you would buy in a gourmet coffee house for upwards of $3 to $5. Based on
the surveys and focus groups that had been conducted people were looking for convenience,
minimal clean up, and great taste. Keurig made its decision to promote the system based on those
factors and with units succeeding in local businesses now was the time to strike, while the iron is
hot , a large percentage of survey takers said they would gladly buy the units that were proposed
based on the information they were given.
Pricing strategies
The successful market of Starbucks and other successful coffee houses has made it okay to spend
$1.50 or more for a good quality coffee and even more for specialty drinks. Considering the trend
in successful coffee houses and the cost of the drinks, it opened the door for Keurig to produce high
quality low maintenance units for the home and office. Keurig conducted multiple market research
polls to reach its price points, ensuring that once units are released they are something that
customers will buy without hesitation. Price points were anywhere in the range of $199 to $299

Doodle s Life In The Scarlet Ibis By James Hurst
Have you ever tried your hardest to accomplish something, just to let it die? In The Scarlet Ibis by
James Hurst, Doodle and the scarlet ibis both experienced this moment in life. Doodle had a rare
and life threatening heart condition that he developed from birth. This condition restrains him from
doing the things he loves. The scarlet ibisalso had a disability that confined its abilities.
Both the scarlet ibis and Doodle traveled a long way, just to end their life. Doodle s brother has
pushed him a long way so that he could succeed. In the story the narrator said, Once I had
succeeded in teaching Doodle to walk, I began to believe in my own infallibility, and I prepared a

Both Doodle and the scarlet ibis s life concluded in a terrible way. In the story, the narrator
explained the death of the scarlet ibis, At that moment the bird began to flutter, but the wings
were uncoordinated, and amid much flapping and a spray of flying feathers, it tumbled down,
bumping through the limbs of the bleeding tree and landing at our feet with a thud. Its long,
graceful neck jerked twice into an S, then straightened out, and the bird was still, (Hurst ll. 298

on his forehead and lifted his head. Limply, he fell backward onto the earth. He had been
bleeding from the mouth, and his neck and the front of his shirt were stained a brilliant red,
(Hurst ll. 383 386). The scarlet ibis traveled a long way from where it lived to escape from the
storm. The bird began to die due to an injury. As a result from that injury, the scarlet ibis s life
terminated. Doodle s life also came to an end after he traveled a long way. Doodle traveled a long
way by learning many new things and developing many skills that he was unable to do before.

John Eldredge s Wild At Heart
The premise behind Wild at Heart by John Eldredge is simply put: astounding. A book that dives
into the male psyche of today. Who we are, why we re here, what we do; or sometimes rather
don t do. Wild at Heart works hard to break the stereo type of what men are taught to be by the
world around them, and in doing so, helps self diagnose why you, as a guy living in todays
world, might feel unfulfilled. Long story short, I feel as though Eldredge communicated the
premise of Wild at Heart quite effectively. The hypothesis is proved several times throughout the
book, actually, each chapter helps prove the belief. However, the three main points in Wild at
Heart are the most potent. As men, we are innately wired for adventure, bravery and beauty. So
the main focuses in this book are as follows: A Battle to Fight, A Beauty to Rescue, and An
Adventure to Live. Somewhere along the way, so many of us fall along the way side of these
points. As Eldredge puts it, we hang up our six shooter and cowboy hat and grow up just as the
world has told us to do. We now see adventure as trading stocks and going to meetings at a
different coffee shop than usual. Society in large can t make up its mind about men. Where are the
real men? The world asks us. The answer that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

how at times men are degraded. Not even intentionally in most cases. Though, as stated in my
opening remarks, the world really can not make up its mind about what it wants men to be.
Perhaps if the world could decide we could follow that. However, in my opinion, it s better that the

Literature and Language
Chapter 9 Language and Literature There is a very close relationship between language and
literature. The part of linguistics that studies the language of literature is termed LITERARY
STYLISTICS. It focuses on the study of linguistic features related to literary style. 9.1 Theoretical
background Our pursuit of style, the most elusive and fascinating phenomenon, has been enhanced
by the constant studies of generations of scholars, Style , the phenomenon, has been recognized
since the days of ancient rhetoric; stylistic , the adjective, has been with us since 1860; stylistics ,
the field, is perhaps the creation of bibliographers. (Dolores Burton, 1990) Helmut Hatzfeld was the

In this section, we shall briefly discuss the grammatical and semantic aspects. 9.2.1
Foregrounding and grammatical form Consider the following examples, both of which describe
inner city decay in the U.S. The first is from the Observer (29 November 1995) : ex.9 1 The
1960 dream of high rise living soon turned into a nightmare. In this sentence, there is nothing
grammatically unusual or deviant in the way the words of the sentence are put together.
However, in the following verse from a poem, the grammatical structure seems to be much more
challenging, and makes more demands on our interpretative processing of these lines: ex.9 2
Four storeys have no windows left to smash But in the fifth a chipped sill buttresses Mother and
daughter the last mistresses Of that black block condemmed to stand, not crash. The sentence in
line 2 of this verse that starts with But in the fifth is unusual in that the predicate of the sentence
is made up of a sequence of embedded elements, as we can see if we write them out in a full
form: A chipped sill buttresses mother and daughter who are the last mistresses of that black block
which is condemned to stand, not crash. Furthermore, the main verb in this sentence is buttress.
This word can be either a noun or a verb, but we would argue that it is more likely to occur as a
noun in less literary contexes. In literary texts,

William Penn American Hero Essay
Should William Penn be a heroic figure to American history? Throughout British proprietary
colonization of the Americas, there were many different motives for claiming American soil by
those whom were audacious enough to consider the prospect of funding a distant statehood. Penn

respect that it had intent to provide refuge to those whom faced religious persecution, even so, the

For how long should women remain under the dominion of their husbands? Women live in a
world that is male dominated and at times have to be submissive to the dominion of their

Gail Godwin is a female activist concerned with the plight of women in the society. She is a writer

Oyster Dress By Alexander Mcqueen
Art is all around us. There are many different forms of art. It can be something created, captured,
or it can be already existent. Not a single person is to say what makes something art because
there is a different definition for everyone. However, there are a couple factors that come into
mind whenever someone decides to declare something as art. In this essay I will be comparing
and contrasting four different pieces of art. I will be discussing each art piece s form, time period
of creation, intention or purpose, and value. These four pieces of art are Michelangelos Pieta,

Fountain, and the Oyster dress were all created in close proximity to each other in comparison to
Pieta, which was created between 1498 and 1499. This piece by Rothko consists of large
expanses of colour delineated by uneven, hazy shades (mark rothko.org). From the documentary
we watched on Rothko the other day in class, I learned that he wanted his paintings to evoke the
basic human emotions. Although this piece is simple it is meant to resonate with the audience so
that they can personally connect with it I some way. I think this is a very different approach to
art. Most artists try to paint a scene, or have a story behind their art but Rothko approaches his art
with emotion in hopes that it evokes emotion with others. This piece was created in a relatively
similar time period to some of the other pieces, but its materials and intention are different from all

Theodore Herzl s Influence On Der Judenstaat
Generally accepted to have been the father of modern Zionism, (Wharton, 75) Theodore Herzl
wrote in his groundbreaking piece 1896 Der Judenstaat:
Wherever they live in perceptible numbers, they are more or less persecuted. Their equality before
the law, granted by statute, has become practically a dead letter. They are debarred from filling
even moderately high positions, either in the army, or in any public or private capacity. And
attempts are made to thrust them out of business also: Don t buy from Jews! (Herzl, II. The Jewish
Question).
Rather than seeking sympathy, Herzl prefaced his work with these anti Semitic acts in history as a
categorical reason for an autonomous Der Judenstaat, which is literally State of the Jews in
German, and began the movement now known as Zionism. It is interesting to note, however, that
anti Semitism, which may be defined as the prejudice, discrimination and hatred of Jews as a
national, ethnic, religious or racial group, (Anti Semitism) permeated history for millennia before
Zionism emerged; yet, many scholars regard it as the predominant impetus for the rise of the

Nat Turner And John Brown Analysis
The activities of Nat Turner and John Brown were as legitimate, if not more so, than the actions
taken by the self proclaimed Sons of Liberty to break ties with Great Britain. The American
Revolution was founded in the transformation of ideas taken from the Enlightenment philosophers
based on equality in self governing. The colonists wanted to break from a country that not only
protected them but supplied them with necessities through trade. These people never lost their
freedom to move or to work at jobs they wanted. It took an exceptional group of leaders to voice
the ideas of insurrection based on freedom from governing suppression.
Nat Turner and John Brown attempted to right wrongs that were blatantly practiced against
people that had no other option, no say at all in how they were treated. Slaves were physically

The political give and take through the 1840s resulting in the Compromise of 1850, which
remarkably enough followed a war with Mexico that was instigated by the United States to gain
territory, represented a band aid on the central issue of slavery. The fact it took a war fought
between Americans that physically devastated the country to abolish slavery all the more proves
that revolts of John Brown and Nat Turner were part of the only solution to establish freedom for
slaves. Their methods were as legitimate as those taken by the rebellious colonists, for they fought
in the only form that would gain freedom for a group of people who suffered more than the
colonists did under the rule of Great

Bob Banksy Research Paper
Born in Bristol, England, around 1974 and rose to prominence for his provocative stenciled
pieces in the late 1990s, Banksy is an unmasked street artist who takes risks to get the word out
about political and social issues. He was part of a group called DryBeadZ, and he used stencils on
occasion but many of his work was largely freehand.
Like many artists, their work addresses many things. Like them, Banksy addresses various cultural
and social issues such as commercialism in society, government surveillance of citizens, and
violence in society. Many of his graffiti is just graffiti and society s response. Often his paintings or
sculptures contrast images. For example, an image such as a clash between police and innocence or

The Link Between Idiocracy And Rituals Essay
Idiocracy revolves around a man named Joe Bauers, definition of an Ordinary American who
works as U.S Army librarian; he is selected by the force for a top secret human hibernation
experiment. The examination is overlooked when the officer in control is captured for having
begun his own prostitution ring under Upgrayedd s guidance. As he wakes up 500 years in future
he finds the society so staggeringly stupefied that he s effortlessly the most intelligent individual
alive. For this particular text we will discuss the link between Idiocracy and Rituals. In order to
understand the link between Idiocracy and rituals we must consider theories of John Beattie
(instrumental and expressive actions), Carl Jung(theory of the archetype ), Emile Durkheim (rituals
and society), and lastly Sigmund Freuds psychoanalytical theory. In Idiocracy, we see the message
that the director is attempting to depict through the main character jon Bauers, to not be so
immersed in the innovation that we stop to think and get so dumb.
The first theory that will bring us closer to understanding how the movie Idiocracy portrays ritual
we must take a look at John Beattie s theory on instrumental and expressive actions. Beattie s theory
states Instrumental activities can have an expressive component, and numerous expressive
activities can likewise be done instrumentally. Like in the case he gave in the content driving a car
is an expressive action, yet in the event that the car is enormous and

Personal Narrative-Sever s Story
After the night when Maeve stood up for herself at dinner, she was a much more confident girl.
Hurling helped her do that. She was having a lot more fun with hurling than she ever did with
soccer. The day after she was accepted to the team, her practices began. Aren t you excited for
practice? asked Maeve to Patrick. I guess a little, but you know that I ve been doing this for a
long time, right? But I m very excited for you, little sis. Patrick replied. They left the house for
practice and got there soon after. They began their basic warm ups and Maeve followed along to
the best of her ability. Her brother had told her what they did earlier, but at that moment it was just
a big jumble like a messed up puzzle in her mind. The whistle blew and they all... Show more

Hi, Maeve said quietly. Maeve, hi! It s such a pleasure to see you, he replied. She laughed, then
replied, I understand if your answer is no, but is there anyway I would join the hurling team? I
know I quit about a month ago, but I miss it a lot. I promise to be devoted and try my hardest
during practices and games. Maeve, I remember you being in here a month ago asking the
complete opposite, coach laughed, You can join the team again, but you must be completely
determined to become better. You aren t just going to wake up one day and be better at hurling.
Remember practice makes progress, not perfect. Yes, I completely understand. Thank you so
much, see you later! Maeve replied. Later when Maeve got home from school she ran into the
house and yelled, I m back on the team! I decided that I would play hurling! Really? Nice Maeve,
her dad replied. After multiple weeks of determination, Maeve was starting to get the hang of it.
She was getting better each day, and eventually she was a major part of the team, starting almost
every game. Maeve then knew that determination and practice would make you better at whatever

Gothic Short Stories
The mouldy, rotting, brown house stood in front of Emily, only fear keeping her feet planted to
the ground. Moaning and creaking noises being projected from the house. The grass was damp
from the evening fog and every time she took a step the mud squelched. The bottom step
squeaked as she applied pressure with her foot, she let out a sigh of relief as the old structure
hadn t swallowed her up. The door, slightly off colour from the rest of the house, loomed over
her like a giant as he reached for the brass door handle. A shiver ran through her body like an
electric current, the musty smell of a house that had been long abandoned filled Emily s nose. It
was dim and uninviting. The furniture dusty and old, looking as if it would crumble to dust if she

SUNY New Paltz Reflection
Since coming to SUNY New Paltz this past fall, I have taken a rigorous course load and have
fallen in love with my major. I have met beneficial professors and friends that I will value
throughout my life. Most of all I have learned about who I am and how I see my future
progressing. After attending SUNY New Paltz, I have learned that this institution isn t inadequate;
it is simply not the right fit for me. Early on in my collegeexperience, I had a strong feeling that this
schoolwas not the right match. This sense that I had, led to an internal struggle. I did not want to
be the student who came home after one year. I believed the right thing to do was to make it
through these unsatisfying four years. With this in mind, after giving this school a full year, I
realized I shouldn t have to make it through . I need to be at an institution that is compatible to me...

It is something I have always had a passion for. Whether I excelled in a subject or not, I knew
from early on that the world greatly benefits from any form of learning. My influence for
transferring is mostly academically based. I have made good friends here and I plan on continuing
with those relationships when I transfer. However, as my transcripts will exemplify my grades only
go up. After struggling with obtaining good grades in the beginning of high school, I eventually took
more classes on the subjects I was interested in and my grades improved dramatically. From
American Sign Language to Forensic Science, if I was intrigued by the learning capabilities, then
I surpassed my past experiences with grades. In college, my transcripts illustrate that I am doing
very well and that I have proved the admissions team right. The reason being, my major and
everything that I am learning, captivates me. Merely doing well isn t the best option for me
anymore. I am convinced that transferring colleges will give me the challenges I need to succeed

San Francisco the teacher immediately assumed that his name was Jin Jang and that he has came

having a yellow skin tone and black straight hair and eyes to having white skin and blonde hair

instance, the girl he had a crush on didn t want to be with him based on his buck tooth also
because his cousin was Chinese. It just shows hard he tried to fit in that it was actually for him
to just accept the way he is. Even though, Danny is an American he still wasn t able to be happy
with who he was because everything would go downward. For instance, he still didn t fit in and
wasn t liked by Amelia but when he was himself the other did actually liked him and gave him a
chance. He also ruined his friendship with his best friend. Jin was better off as an Asian American
as he was more himself. Jin realized that it he was actually better of as Jin then as Danny as he had

The Different Types of Prayer Essay
The Different Types of Prayer
Prayer is a form of communication between God and people. Christians use prayers in both
public and private worship as away of communicating with God. They also use prayers to listen to
God and receive guidance, support and comfort from him. The prayers may be said in silence or
aloud.
Jesus taught that people must be persistent in prayer. They should not expect their prayers to be
answered straight away. Jesus taught that Christians must pray with true faith and devotion.
Prayer was the way through which Jesus could talk to his father, God. Jesus believed that God had
a purpose for his creation. He used prayers as the means by which he could discover this ... Show

A confession prayer Г Forgive us the wrongs we have done as we forgive the wrongs that others
have done to us.
This confession prayer is asking for the forgiveness of their sins. It also says that forgive us because
we forgive those people do bad to us.
Christians believe that unless they forgive others, they can t be forgiven themselves. Therefore it
says. ...as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us.
The second type of prayer I will look at is thanksgiving.
THANKSGIVING
Thanksgiving is thanking God.
When Christians want to thank God for something, they say a thanksgiving prayer. This kind of
prayer helps Christians feel grateful and stops them from taking things for granted.
People can thank God for various things. For example: getting better/ recovering from an illness;
giving them life; some good news they ve received etc.
I interviewed a Christian on thanksgiving and this is what she said:
Every time I go to church, I thank God for my loving husband and my two beautiful children
who he s blessed me with. I m thankful for all that he s given me a place where I earn my living, a
place that I can call home and so much more. Every time, I have a problem, I pray to him. I ask
him for help and guidance.
Looking at this interview, I can see that this person is very satisfied with her life

  • 3. Coming To America Passage Analysis Welcoming. Belonging. Sense of Purpose. Everyone wants that. Without it we feel naked, incomplete. Ultimately, it is what mankind really strives for. While food, water, and shelter are important, there is no purpose to life without that sense of belonging. Kao and her family never really felt belonged anywhere, and they struggled to feel a sense of purpose in their home . My favorite passage in the book, is when Kao is telling her story of her adjustment of coming to America. This passage is part of the third section of the book, The American Years. In the section, Kao and her family had just arrived in their new tiny home in Saint Paul, Minnesota. While they had training of what to expect from America, it did not prepare them well enough for what was to come. Their arrival was anything but welcoming as they were greeted with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the passage, Kao says, For the first year and a half, we wanted to be invisible (112). This is my favorite passage because it is really jaw dropping to see that after all Kao and her family had been through they wanted to stay invisible in America for the first year and a half that they were afraid of being who they are, Hmong. Back in their old home they were accustomed to frequent bombings, disease, malnourishment, and so much physical pain. But here, their biggest fear being in the US is the hatred and racism that is targeted on them. Day after day it s a struggle for Kao s family. For many immigrants, America has always been projected as the Golden Gate . A place where one would no longer struggle for their family and if you worked hard enough one can accomplish anything. Malnourishment, clean air, and safety would no longer keep you up at night. And at the start of Kao s American journey, it was hard to see if any positive opportunity would arise. But it would, as they didn t let the hard work or racism get to them. Kao s parents would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Ken Wilson Psychedelic Art Tripping Over Hazy Art From trippy patterns to wildly vibrant typography, the psychedelic art style was absolutely endless. The unique art movement was at its best from 1966 to 1972. Although there were many memorable artists at this time, Wes Wilson was known for being the father of the 60 s rock concert posters. Psychedelic art was just about everybody s obsession in the 1960 s because of its unorthodox style and artists that were a part of it. Throughout the 1960 s there were many fads and trends, but one of the most creative ones was the idea of psychedelic art. The word psychedelic comes from the Greek words psyche and delos , which means mind manifesting or soul manifesting. (network9.biz) And according to the author Ken Johnson, ... In an interview hosted by CNN, author Ken Johnson stated: I think any work of art encourages you to imagine your way into a state of consciousness that may not be your normal state, so you kind of suspend disbelief and allow yourself to be imaginatively seduced into a different way of relating to the world so that you study things more carefully, you think about how things are affecting you. Johnson also stated, but they start thinking about how our perceptions work and how interesting it is the way we think about the world, so we think about our thinking. This proves that in the 60 s many people discovered that drugs, such as LSD, were a way to see the deeper meaning behind things because it rearranged the whole way your brain may have thought. Another reason that psychedelic art was so popular in the 60 s was because all of the art pieces, more specifically rock concert posters, they tried to visually express the feeling of tripping out. (visualartsdepartment.wordpress.com) An article on arthistory.net titled Psychedelic Art, says that many of these art pieces were also popular because of their visually captivating styles. Obviously, many people enjoyed these feelings because they could avoid mainstream thinking without having to actually use said drugs. • 6. The Struggle Life In Tillie Olsen s I Stand Here Ironing Throughout every story, every author had reflected their particular own life as themes in their stories where the character considers about authors regular life like family, friends, works and the media. Most authors can relate their life experiences as an important theme that resemble the character s stories where they recall their past memories in their life from the cheerful recollections where they feel the excitement with their parents or friends to depression and painful memories that they persevered to withstand their long year to comprehend the reality of life like The Lady With the Dog by Anton Chekhovand A Wall of Fire Rising by Edwidge Danticat . Others have a tendency to clarify about the media that are similar to their own life, for instance, racism from Recitatif by Toni Morrison. One specific story that identified with the author s struggle life was I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen. Various characters and events from Olsen s life influenced the story and its characters and themes. Olsen has revealed the theme of the story is the burden of motherhood which she relate to her struggle life as a mother. • 12. The Warning Signs Of Abuse Domestic Violence is a common pattern of aggressive behavior inside the family, typically between intimate partners. This type of violence includes not only physical abuse but also sexual abuse, psychological/emotional abuse, and financial abuse. According to the CDC on average, 20 people per minute are victims of physical violenceby an intimate partner in the United States. Over the course of a year, that equals more than 10 million women and men ( The National ). In this paper, I will discuss the warning signs of abuse, how the abuser justifies his actions, why victims stay in abusive relationships, and how the victims can protect themselves. The first step is to recognize the warning signs of abuse. There are a lot of signs of abuse like being humiliated in public, being called names like stupid or bitch, being controlled in every way or being forced to have sex etc. Abusers don t show the same violent behavior due to the fact that every relationship and person is different. However, there is one thing that all abusers share and that is the need to impose their control over their victims, this is the main purpose of domestic violence. It is also common for abuse to escalate very slowly, making it difficult for the victim to become aware of how severe it has become, even though it is patently obvious to those around him or her. In the abuser s mind, the violent behavior is completely justifiable and they have several reasons to support their analysis. First the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Homelessness In Seattle s Place In Homeless Shelters I never realized how lucky I am; sitting in a classroom, wearing proper clothing and having a safe and comfortable environment to go home to. However, peering into the communities in Seattle and even Kitsap County, I see many people who are not as privileged as I am. Homelessness, in Seattle, has shown to be an enormous issue when it comes to the conditions the homeless live in and how their human rights are not being fulfilled. Consequently, the city has shown much concern to address this issue in terms of raising the budget, assessing the root of the problem and showing motivation to lower the number of people living on the street. This developmental object was displayed through the Hot potato (share the animal) activity. The activity consisted of a sharing action, by passing on the different animal to the next preschooler. I believe that the objective was achieved though this activity, as except one child was eventually able to pass along the animals properly. For example, in blue group six preschooler automatically comprehended the objective of the game and passed the animals along smoothly, while two (G.M and G.P) children need to be reminded that this is a sharing activity and that we need to continuously pass along the animals. As I read the book about sharing and taking turns, I asked the preschoolers to describe what they see and how the characters are feeling. The objective was only partially achieved in the yellow group as I did not give an introduction explaining my book. This mistake could of possibly made it more difficult for the children to describe the scenario in the story, as they did not know what to focus on. On the other hand, I did ask questions throughout the book, prompting children to use descriptive words to describe how the characters were feeling. For example, F.W was able to explain and use descriptive words when answering my questions throughout the book, but at the end of the book she was not able to describe the main theme. All eight children reacted the same way. This is my fault as I did not specify where the preschoolers should maintain their focus. Therefore, my second time implementing the activity allowed all eight children in the blue group to fully achieve the objective, as I made sure to be more clear about what the children should focus on, helping them interact and understand more thoroughly. Overall, the children reacted well to the book as I used different tones to keep them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Stokely Carmichael Black Power What is Black Power? Black power is a movement lead by Stokely Carmichael which promoted the idea of black empowerment and creating a community where blacks feel comfortable in. It implies self determination and self motivation. This means blacks should not rely on white authority to fix racial issues but rather take matters into their own hands. It is a call for blacks to define their own goals. This was not only meant as freedom from white authority but also as economical and political independence. In this way Black Power was taking control of the future of blacks in both economical and political ways and establishing a community in which they will not have to suffer living as second class citizens. Black power also encouraged blacks to have pride in their racial heritage and be proud to be black. A way of promoting this was by using the slogan Black is Beautiful , to get people to see the beauty of being black and not to be ashamed of their prominent black features. As men, we are innately wired for adventure, bravery and beauty. So the main focuses in this book are as follows: A Battle to Fight, A Beauty to Rescue, and An Adventure to Live. Somewhere along the way, so many of us fall along the way side of these points. As Eldredge puts it, we hang up our six shooter and cowboy hat and grow up just as the world has told us to do. In this sentence, there is nothing grammatically unusual or deviant in the way the words of the sentence are put together. However, in the following verse from a poem, the grammatical structure seems to be much more challenging, and makes more demands on our interpretative processing of these lines: ex.9 2 Four storeys have no windows left to smash But in the fifth a chipped sill buttresses Mother and daughter the last mistresses Of that black block condemmed to stand, not crash. The sentence in line 2 of this verse that starts with But in the fifth is unusual in that the predicate of the sentence is made up of a sequence of embedded elements, as we can see if we write them out in a full form: A chipped sill buttresses mother and daughter who are the last mistresses of that black block which is condemned to stand, not crash. Furthermore, the main verb in this sentence is buttress. This word can be either a noun or a verb, but we would argue that it is more likely to occur as a noun in less literary contexes. • 39. Theodore Herzl s Influence On Der Judenstaat Generally accepted to have been the father of modern Zionism, (Wharton, 75) Theodore Herzl wrote in his groundbreaking piece 1896 Der Judenstaat: Wherever they live in perceptible numbers, they are more or less persecuted. Their equality before the law, granted by statute, has become practically a dead letter. They are debarred from filling even moderately high positions, either in the army, or in any public or private capacity. And attempts are made to thrust them out of business also: Don t buy from Jews! (Herzl, II. The Jewish Question). Rather than seeking sympathy, Herzl prefaced his work with these anti Semitic acts in history as a categorical reason for an autonomous Der Judenstaat, which is literally State of the Jews in German, and began the movement now known as Zionism. It is interesting to note, however, that anti Semitism, which may be defined as the prejudice, discrimination and hatred of Jews as a national, ethnic, religious or racial group, (Anti Semitism) permeated history for millennia before Zionism emerged; yet, many scholars regard it as the predominant impetus for the rise of the Zionist movement. • 41. Nat Turner And John Brown Analysis The activities of Nat Turner and John Brown were as legitimate, if not more so, than the actions taken by the self proclaimed Sons of Liberty to break ties with Great Britain. The American Revolution was founded in the transformation of ideas taken from the Enlightenment philosophers based on equality in self governing. The colonists wanted to break from a country that not only protected them but supplied them with necessities through trade. These people never lost their freedom to move or to work at jobs they wanted. It took an exceptional group of leaders to voice the ideas of insurrection based on freedom from governing suppression. Nat Turner and John Brown attempted to right wrongs that were blatantly practiced against people that had no other option, no say at all in how they were treated. Slaves were physically abused and treated purely as objects by the very same people who beat the drum of revolution for the right to live a life free of government suppression. Colonists were never enchained because of who they were, they fought more for an ideology, while Turner and Brown instigated actions for the physical freedom of a group ...
