Hypothesis Testing Paper

Judith Geske
Hypothesis testing is the process in which an analyst may test a statistical hypothesis. The
methodology used by the analyst is based on the nature of the data used and the main goals of the
analysis. The main goal in this is to either reject or accept the null hypothesis. Through testing,
results will show that someone who may prove one answer, may not mean that answer is
actually correct, for there may be many factors that may change the outcome. For this reason is
why researchers the five or one percent probability rates. In this null hypothesis it will prove that
there is no difference between these variables. With the single variables it is also proven that
there is no difference from zero. Statistical evidence will later prove that if it is indeed proven to
be fact or nullified based on the evidence gathered. A null hypothesis is a process in which
research may try to disprove, reject or nullify the proposed hypothesis. In a study, the researcher
may use the hypothesis based on a specific testable prediction; this is based on a dependent and
independent variable in a study. In result, the hypothesis researched will match what the analyst is
trying to prove to be true in the problem. The first step one must take when testing a hypothesis is
restating the question experience analyzed into an alternative hypothesis and null hypothesis. The
following scenario is as follows: Do

Essay on Reality-Based Leadership ~ My Opinion
Reality Based Leadership Review
Though out this paper I will provide my opinion on how accurate Cy Wakeman s book Reality
Based Leadership is in the workplace. I will attempt to provide my honest and professional opinion
about the techniques Ms. Wakeman outlines in her book about leadership.
In my opinion the Reality Based Leadership book is broken down into three main points which are;
managing versus leading, leading your employees and yourself, and delegating your authority.
During these topics I will summarize what the book talks about then analyze what was discussed
and provide my thoughts about whether or not I think it is realistic or wishful thinking.

The thought with this is some of the middle 60% will rise up wanting to belong to the top and
the others will fall to the bottom. I see this practice as trimming the fat of the organization by
terminating the ones who are only there to take up space and collect a paycheck. For this strategy
to work in today s sue happy world you will have to maintain extensive records of your employees.
You will have to sit down with each and every one of them and ensure they know what is expected
of them within the organization or the team.
By focusing on the top performers within your organization you allow them the latitude to make
their own decisions for the tasks that they were assigned. This makes your job as a leader and a
manager easier and makes the employees feel they belong to a higher purpose and the satisfaction
that they are an integral part of the organization. It will also allow you to focus more on the
development of others help them achieve higher degrees of satisfaction and possibly accelerate
their career by getting promoted to higher positions within the organization.
A successful leader will be contagious within the organization. When you, the manager, are faced
with change, whether it is changing a process or it is the higher management wants to lower their
human capital, you are going to have to be the engine that drives your employees even if you are
not involved in the decision making. Leaders must display strength and

Rhetorical Appeals On The Life Of A Villain
Rhetorical Appeals in the Life of a Villain A villain is just a victim whose story hasn t been told
(Chris Colfer). Stinky Pete of Toy Story 2, is plotted to be the bad guy of the film. He s could
also be classified as a sympathetic villain, which will be explained further later. Now, you may or
may not have heard of the rhetorical appeals before, but little does one know, that the three
rhetorical appeals are applied to the film Toy Story 2and its villain. Let me break it down for you,
long ago, there was a brilliant man named Aristotle who noticed a pattern that occurred in language
to persuade people to believe a certain thing that was either being marketed, campaigned, or
publicly presented. He took notice in the fact that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Woody, who wanted to go back home to Andy and his friends, was hesitant to agree to go to
Japan. The Prospector then became afraid of going back into storage when he was so close to
freedom and made it his personal goal to keep Woody from leaving. Stinky Pete then became a
sympathetic villain here because the actions and decisions he made were all from a fear of
being alone and in a box for the rest of his life. The prospector then with all his power uses any
method to try to keep Woody from returning home which leads him to use the first rhetorical
appeal, ethos. Everybody naturally will respect an elderly person in their life because of the
wisdom and knowledge they have gained over the years, therefore, it was no different for
Woody to naturally respect Stinky Pete. The Prospector used this to his advantage and created a
strong appeal to ethos. Out of all four members, Stinky Pete would have to be the most valuable

Who I Am Essay
When I look in the mirror I know whom I am, but society makes it difficult to understand who I
am, because I was born to immigrants of Nigerian descent, and I am a first generation American,
that term is sometimes used so loosely. By looking at my name they assume that I am from some

Wal Mart s Core Competencies Essay
There is a growing body of literature that recognises the importance of Resource Based View
(RBV) in strategic management. This paper attempts to identify Wal Mart s core competencies,
applying RBV literature such as VRIO framework with supporting evidence from Wal Mart
Stores in 2003 case study. RBV suggests that each firm acquires a collection of capabilities,
which can be mobilised by strategists to gain competitive advantage (McGee et al., 2005). In
other words, a firm can be viewed as a bundle of resources, which are the drivers of strategy and
growth in a firm. When creating a unique product, a firm also develops a unique competence
(Mintzberg et al., 2009). Prahalad and Hamel (1990) ascertained that three tests could be used to
determine a core competence. Foremost, a core competence should provide a promising access to
a variety of markets. Second, a core competence would make a substantial contribution to the end
product in view of customers. Lastly, a core competence should be unique, hard to imitate. In
fulfilling the three tests, a resource would be a core competence of a firm. Moreover, to be a
sustainable competitive advantage (SCA), Barney (1991) stated that a corporation s resources
should consist of four characteristics: (i) valuable, in adding value creating strategy to the product,
not in the monetary sense, (ii) rare, in view of the business current market position, (iii) imperfectly
imitable and (iv) non substitutable. Furthermore, a firm s

List and describe at least three (3) technologies that allow an individual to research citizens private
data
The internet, cookies, and databases are three technologies which can potentially allow individuals
to locate private information. Overtly, online web based transactions require specific personal
identifiers to be yielded by the purchaser. Through online social media, blogs, and web posts,
private information intended for a selective audience can easily be researched by the mass market.
Equally, and practiced in commercial settings, transacting on the Internet allows other data to be
recorded on the private transaction that is less evident by the purchaser. For example, cookies,
store data on behavior, such as which web pages are visited by the individual and how frequently
they are visited. In addition cookies can also reveal online shopping behavior. These cookies are
then analyzed by the company to determine potentially targeted advertising initiatives.
Databases, by virtue of their size, presents additional complications in regards to private date.
There is so much information stored in many databases worldwide that an individual has no
practical means of knowing of or controlling all of the information about themselves that can
potentially be accessed by others. Such information could potentially be sold to others for profit
and/or be used for purposes not known to or sanctioned by the individual concerned. In addition,

How To Change Fate In Macbeth
Every person has their own specific personalities, which can then determine what their fate is and
how easily their fate can be changed. A weaker person has more of a possibility of their fate being
manipulated by other people, whereas a more outspoken person has a smaller possibility of their
fate being influenced by others. Although fate can be affected by other people, but you are the one
who ultimately changes your fate and your decisions are what decided your fate. Throughout the
entirety of Macbeth, there have been very many different personalities shown and many different
changed fates. Macbethbegan the book as a weaker and an easily manipulated character that was
willing to do anything to gain any form of power. While in his power hungry state, Macbeth
made bad decisions which created a bad fate for him. Macbeth s need for power and his weak state

Alzheimer s disease affects everyone affiliated with the sufferer. Alzheimer s disease devastates
the brain and its ability to function. The issue is sensitive, complicated, and is negatively
impacting the world. Alzheimer s disease may not always be fatal, but Alzheimer s disease has

Analysis Of Woodrow Wilson s The Straw That Broke The...
Following WW1, Europe was left in a bad state. Empires were destroyed and states were being
formed. The Minority question that arose following the war, albeit important, was not as much of a
destabilizing force in this time as people like to think. It was only the byproduct of events that took
place. These events include the publishing of the fourteen points, the settlements made during the
Paris Peace conference, and the creation of state constitutions. The minority question was, in
essence, the straw that broke the camel s back, breaking the already damaged infrastructure of post
war Europe.
In order to answer the question on why minority rights became such a destabilizing force after the
war, we must first look at what caused this problem to become the forefront of many European
minds. Two pivotal events took place following the war that left stains on Europe; stains that, to
some, indirectly led to the start of World War 2. The first and most important event was the
publishing of Woodrow Wilsons fourteen points on January 8, 1918. These points were created in
the hope to promote peace and harmony among the recently war stricken nations of Europe. One
prominent point that came from this document was the idea of self determination. This encouraged
people to form their own nation where they could choose rulers and live amongst others who share
the same culture. This piqued the interest of the millions of people living in the various, and heavily

Regulation Of The Us Banking Industry

1)Regulation of the US banking industry; Changes in the industry since the recent recession
Banks can include commercial banks, savings and loans, and credit unions. Everyday banks are
used to make payments, deposits, withdraw, or talk to bankers about options. Regulations are
highly important in the banking industry, protecting customers and economically. Banks gain funds
by retained earnings, equity securities, savings, loans, and charging interest rates.

During the 2008 panic and recessions, many worried that this would soon happen again if there

Harvard Law, he Dodd Act was reformers, improving customer protection, reduce possible and

The Private Market And Venture Capitalist
Mr. Whitney presented enlightening information regarding entrepreneurship, why it is important
and how the private market or venture capitalist are so important in investing in entrepreneurs.
Venture capital is changing the global economy as banks are not investing in businesses anymore
other than lending funds. Wealth creation has changed due to the internet and today wealth
creation is out pacing the wealth created by inheritance (M. Whitney, personal communication,
May 21, 2016). An axiom from Mr. Whitney s company is networks create and disrupt net worth.
As explained, networks bind things together, but they take away somewhere else. This can be
illustrated in the railroad industry. The railroad created a network, which tied the east and west
coast together, facilitating travel and movement of goods from coast to coast. However, the
railroad industry disrupted net worth of the horse and buggy industry, as this mode of
transportation was replaced. It is typical for organizations to follow a common business model
within an industry but, if you assume that there is only one business model, then your organization
gets disrupted and you are blindsided. Another idea presented was retail is a good indicator of
market shifts, with three big trends portrayed in retail that is extended to every industry as a
predictive indicator. One of these trends is consolidation, which we see companies buying up
companies, therefore the customer base is getting smaller. This

John Smith True Relation Summary
Dear Disney,
Because of John Smith s two contradictory accounts and love for attention, I do not believe that
Pocahontas saved his life. Smith wrote two books about his time in Virginia. In the first book, True
Relation (est. 1608), John writes that he was peacefully accepted into the tribe, and that he was
assisted and fed with grace. One interesting thing to note is that Smith does not mention Pocahontas
in this first story. Sixteen years later, John Smith published another chronicle of his visit to the
Powhatan tribe. This book is called General History (est. 1624), and speaks more critically of the
tribe. Then I was dragged by many hands, and they laid my head on the stones, being ready with
their clubs to beat out my brains , wrote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The timing of the two accounts leads me to believe in the first. Because True Relation was
written almost immediately and General History was written so many years after, it is safe to
assume that Smith may have become faint in memory of the event by the time the second book
was published. Similarly related, John s first book was written as an anecdote while General
History was written to interest potential settlers of the area. In True Relation, John writes of
thanking Pocahontas for her father s kindness when she comes to Jamestown later in 1608.
However, he does not write of thanking her for saving his life. This leads a reader to the
conclusion that she did not, in fact, save him. Another interesting contradiction in Smith s
multiple accounts is when in another book, A Map of Virginia (est. 1612), Smith describes an
execution ritual. He describes a prisoner s head being placed on a sacrificing stone, while one
with clubs beats out their brains. Isn t it rather odd that he didn t mention his own experience here,
since it sounds just like what happened to him? writes historian Henry Adams in 1867. Given these
pieces of evidence and many others, it is clear that Pocahontas saving John Smith s life was purely a

Orcas are actually the largest member of the dolphin family and the top predator in the marine
environment. Spanish whalers called Orcas whale killers after observing them hunt in packs, killing
or overcoming marine mammals, including whales (STW Killer Whale). Somehow, their name got
turned around to what we name them today; killer whales. However, no accurate report exists of
Orcas in the wild killing humans. Orcas are well known for their black shiny bodies with white
patches around the eyes and stomach. This coloration has made these majestic large animals the
large money makers at corporations such as SeaWorld. This enterprise, however, creates an unsafe
environment for the Orcas in order to create a profit. Orcas should not be kept in captivity because
it jeopardizes the animals mental and physical health to create a profit and is, therefore, inhumane.
Orcas are large whales that live all around the world. They are well known for their dorsal fin,
which is located on the top of their body stand erect and are different for each whale. Researchers
often use the dorsal fin to identify individual Orcas. There are many different types of Orcas and
within these types researchers observe very diverse diets. Orca diets are often geographic or
population specific. Some types like the eastern North Pacific resident orca populations specialize
on salmon (Chinook and chum salmon), while others like transients feed on marine

The Controversial Life of Tupac Shakur
Despite his reputation as a criminal and a thug, Tupac Shakur effectively spread his message of the
unfairness in society through his storytelling, music, and public stance to increase awareness of
discrimination against African Americans.
Tupac Amaru Shakur came into the world on June 16, 1971 in Brooklyn, New York. While
poverty stricken,Tupac faced many obstacles as a child and an adolescent. All his life, Shakur
used issues in his family as an underlying conflict and expressed these issues while growing up.

Toxic Shock Syndrome
Introduction
Toxic Shock Syndrome, or TSS is a life threatening illness caused by a bacteria called
Staphylococcus aureus . TSS was first discovered in children in 1978. (Venkataraman, 2015) After
the 1978 discovery, the disease itself was nationally recognized in 1980 when it was seen as a
health threat amongst reproductive women, after this epidemic the number of reports of TSS
decreased sharply. (Hajjeh, 2010) S. aureus can be identified as bacteria that, often times will go
unnoticed as it usually does not cause any harm. Around 30% of the world?s population carries this
bacterium in their noses. Although the bacteria are commonly regarded as harmless, in a healthcare
environment it can lead to many serious infections. An S. aureus infection, ... Show more content on

The first step the doctor takes in attempting to overcome the disease is to identify the source of the
conflict and remove it, if applicable, and proceed treat it. The physician will then, after taking blood
cultures, begin a combination of IV antibiotics. The antibiotics used are of a variety, due to the fact
that S. aureus is resistant to many antibiotics, this variety consists of nafcillin, oxacillin, penicillin,
and clindamycin. Based on the results of the blood cultures the physician may later decide to
change the antibiotics used. While being treated with these antibiotics patients may experience side
effects such as: nausea, headaches, vomiting, joint pain, and vaginal itch or discharge. A physician
may also use dopamine or epinephrine to treat low blood pressure. (Venkataraman, 2015)
Prognosis
Medically, Toxic Shock Syndromeis a very serious disease and is often considered life
threatening, referred to as deadly in 50 percent of cases. (Healthline Media, n.d.) The key to
overcoming TSS is to begin treatment early. If this is done, one will see improvement within 48
hours of medical attention and often will be able to leave the hospital within a week.

Symptoms, Causes, And Treatments Of Schizophrenia
Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments of Schizophrenia
Cassidy Echalico
Florida State College at Jacksonville
Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments of Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a stigmatized disease that
labels victims as crazy. One percent of people develop schizophrenia in their lifetime; more than two
million Americans suffer from schizophrenia in a given year (Spearing, 1999). Although
schizophrenia affects men and women equally, it often appears earlier in men than in women; Men
are generally affected in the late teens to early twenties and women are generally affected in the
twenties to early thirties (Spearing, 1999). Schizophrenia is highly uncommon in children,
affecting only about 1 in 40,000 in comparison to 1 in 100 in adults. Many of the victims do not
realize they have schizophrenia until they have a first episode psychosis (Aas, Andreassen, Aminoff,
Faerden, Romm, Nesvayeng, Berg, Simonsen, Agartz, and Melle. 2016). While many people only
know the stereotyped effects of schizophrenia, a better understanding of the symptoms, causes, and
possible treatments can clear many stigmas up.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental
disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves (National Institute of Mental Health,
2016). Symptoms of schizophrenia include positive, negative, and cognitive affluences (National
Institute of Mental Health, 2016). Positive symptoms include behaviors that are not seen in

The Dream Argument by Rene Descartes Essay
One of Rene Descartes s most famous arguments, from his not only from his first meditation but
all of the meditations, is his Dream Argument. Descartes believes that there is no way to be able
to distinguish being in awake from being in a state of dreaming. In fact you could actually be in a
dream right now. Rene Descartes s theory that one is unable distinguish being awake from
dreaming, as interesting as it is, can be at times a little farfetched, along with a few contradictions
to himself, Descartes s dreamargument does not entitle himself to any sort of claim.
Descartes wrote the Meditations on First Philosophy were first published in the year 1641 in Latin.

It is deception from the sense that causes this mistrust for Descartes and brings forth the Dream
Argument. The human senses as well feel very real, just as they do in reality, and this is one of
the first things that have Descartes question the differences between being awake and dream.
Due to the trust issues it he becomes unsure of whether he is dreaming or not. When it comes to
dreaming Descartes thinks that there could possibility that some certain God that may have
easily deceived him in falsely believing in things could appear to be correct but are not.
However Descartes says that it God is described as a supremely good being (Descartes, 21). God
has always been a being that is worshiped and why would so many people worship an evil God if
he brings no positives to their lives. Descartes however is not 100 percent positive on whether God
is being deceptive or not being deceptive. James Hill says that [the] key move that Descartes then
makes is to highlight the lack of insight one has into one s condition when dreaming. It is this lack

Groupthink Traps And Decision Making
When making decisions, we all must be careful not to fall into traps that can mess with our
thought process. When we understand the different types of traps we are less likely to be
caught up when trying to make decisions. Having the right amount of knowledge will allow for
us to be able to analyze the traps so we are not influenced during the decision process. It can also
help us to improve our decision making skills. 73 was my score. The quiz evaluation stated the
following: You have an excellent approach to decision making! You know how to set up the
process and generate lots of potential solutions. From there, you analyze the options carefully, and
you make the best decisions possible based on what you know. As you gain more and more... Show

The groupthink trap is a good trap to explain a time when I was trapped in the decision making
process. The groupthink trap is when majority of the group supports an idea and you do not
speak up even though you do not agree with the idea (LaForce, 2014). You either are not
confident enough to think you are right, or you do not want to cause a disagreement or conflict
(LaForce, 2014). My example: I was in a meeting with people who are a much higher up then me
and two of those people I do not feel confident around. Actually, one of those people I consider a
bully. The team was trying to come up with a solution to a problem. I can see that not everyone
agrees with the decision but yet, they are not speaking up. I too did not want to speak up,
because I did not want to cause conflict with the two people I mentioned above. I could see the
problem was not well defined, and it did not appear the decision made was not the accurate
solution for the real problem. In this case, I did not speak up, but since that meeting I have
realized that I was right to speak up. Unfortunately, at that time, I lacked the confidents to speak
up, but now I do. When I see others wanting to speak up, or are confused, not on the same page,
etc., I make a point to say something. In the end, there are times I caused conflict, but I allow our
customers to feel more conformable and I know what I did was right, and that conflict was worth it.
I have since learned when to pick my battles, when to take things off line, how to approach different
situations depending on the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Biocellulose
5. DISCUSSION
Bacterial cellulose or biocellulose (BC) is an extracellular cellulose naturally produced by many
microorganisms. BC has been considered as an alternative biomaterial since it possesses superior
qualities to other cellulose. BC exhibits many unique characteristics which are different from those
of other plant celluloses Biocellulose has chemical and physical properties that are superior to the
properties of plant derived cellulose. Compared to plant cellulose, the nanofibril network of
biocellulose has interesting properties such as excellent water holding capacity, high degree of
polymerization, high crystallinity, high purity, good biocompatibility, and excellent mechanical
properties. Therefore, due to its many unique properties, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The cost of the fermentation medium represents a critical aspect of the commercial production
of biocellulose. The cheaper substrate used instead of the commonly used sugars as glucose or
fructose might result in a lower cost of the final product. In this context, two algal substrates have
been tested such as green alga (U. lactuca) and sea grass (P. oceanic). Data confirmed that P.
oceanic was the best substrate in medium HSPO supporting the highest production of biocellulose
(5.7 g/l). Carbohydrates are the major component of seagrass and seaweeds (ca. 50 70% on a dry
basis) (Uchida, 2011), containing mostly polysaccharides to construct algal tissue. For example,
brown algae contain alginate and fucoidan as major components. Red algae contain galactan (e.g.
agar, carrageenan) as a major component. Seagrasses and green algae contain hemicellulose and
cellulose as major components. These major algal polysaccharides are known to be unfavorable
substrates for fermentation. This may be one of the reasons why algal fermentation technology has
yet to be developed. Recently, seaweed could be used as a substrate for lactic acid and ethanol
fermentation, provided that the algal tissue was saccharified with cellulase enzymes. This finding
opened the possibility of obtaining foods and related items from algal fermentation (Uchida, 2002;
Uchida and Murata, 2002; Uchida and Murata, 2004). According to all these advances in algal
fermentation, we suggest that there is a great possibility of creating a new medium for industrial
biocellulose production by G. xylinus using algal fermentation technology in the near

Batches which fail are either rejected or reworked, and all material where we have identified
any fault at all is returned to the supplier, and our buyers routinely threaten to place orders
elsewhere. I instructed the supervisors to inspect press tooling just before the start of each
production batch to ensure that there are no surface faults, so I think it is unlikely that the dents
and blemishes are caused in production. I must make a point of checking that this is happening.
Anyway, our final inspection sampling has been changed to give an acceptable quality level
(AQL) of 2 per cent whereas until recently it was only 5 per cent. We have had to increase the
number of final inspectors by four at a cost of ВЈ15 000 each per annum, but all the management

We trained some of our best assemblers in SPC and made them full time inspectors; the
combination of their technical and statistical skills ensures that we have the right people for this
job. We could not rely on our operators to do any dimensional checks; hardly any of them know
how to measure using a metric rule, let alone a micrometer or vernier gauge. It is best to keep them
concentrating on achieving correct output targets. I believe that most quality problems here must
be caused by occasional operator carelessness.

Negative Effects Of Overdependence On Technology
Overdependence on technology can affect me negatively, but I still feel glad to live in a
technology based society because technology allows me to communicate overseas with my
parents. As time progresses, technology is becoming more advanced and is improving my lives.
It enhances my lives by allowing me to communicate with others without concerning how far we
are apart. Most importantly, different kinds of technology have various applications, which also
known as apps , to let me download and stay in touch with my friends and family. However, as
everyone owns smart phones and computers, critics such as Nicholas Carr, argues the negative
impacts that technology can bring to society. Technology such as smart phones helps me to
communicate with my parents quicker and easier. Four years ago, I moved to America by
myself to continue my high school education. After I moved to America, I began to worry about
communicating with my parents. This is because my parents live in Hong Kong and it is far
away from America. If my parents want to visit me, they will need to take a plane and travel 16
hours to come here. Therefore, seeing my parents face to face and talking with them is extremely

Wr Grace Case Summary
W.R. Grace amp; Co. Audit
W.R. Grace amp; Co. (The Company) is a company that makes some of the materials that are used
in the production of products ranging from medicine to gasoline. The Company was audited by an
accounting firm (The Firm) that is recognized as one of the Big Four Accounting firms in the
world. The Firm found that the company was participating in a practice known as profit
management .
Profit management occurs when a company defers some of its revenues from the current period,
and keeps it in a separate account to use in the future to inflate earnings. Profit management
occurred at The Company because executives were afraid that the increase in earnings would not

The Firm did not comply with this standard since, given the opportunity, another firm may have

Managing the internal audit activity is the responsibility of the Chief Audit Executive (CAE). Mr.
Eatough was the CAE in this case, therefore it was his responsibility to oversee the quality of The
Firm s work and to report the outcomes to the board. Mr. Eatough did not effectively manage the
internal audit activity since the outcome of The Firm s work did not conform with the IIA s Code
of Ethics or the Standards. The Company should initially have appointed a board to which Mr.
Eatough could have written his report. He would have been able to draw the board s attention to the
fact that The Company executives were partaking in an unethical activity.
Mr. Eatough s report referred to the profit managing activity as a deliberate deferral of reported
income when he should have called it fraud. Standard 2410 requires that results are communicated
in such a way as to minimize the risk of misinterpretation. Since Mr. Eatough did not call the profit
management fraud, he left the report open to misinterpretation.
Ultimately, Mr. Eatough should write a report that clearly outlines what is happening at The
Company. The report should be given to the board of directors who

Gender Roles In Nora And Torvald
The manipulative and twisted interaction between a man and a woman, what some considered a
marriage , digs and buries the dominant and controlling nature of the superior into the obedient and
submissive nature of the weaker, the man and the woman. In the case of Nora and Torvald, the
chaotic and disorderly nature of their marriageis stimulated by the feeling that Nora is viewed as
nothing more than a plaything or doll for all the men in her life, whether it be her father or her
husband . With years of living like some toy for her husband s entertainment there is a spark of
realization within Nora, that she is not some object that is solely for her husband s stimulation and
transfixiation of perfection and subservience, but she is also a person, a human, and she has rights
and she deserves to be respected as she is expected to respect her husband. With the realization of
the wronging she has endured in part because of her commanding and persuasive husband and her
controlling father, Nora flees from the responsibilities placed upon her by societal gender roles,
and the roles deemed necessary for her to fulfill while her husband must work, this revelation and
act of self justice is a deviation from what some deemed an inevitable tragedy for the family, in the
aspect that this is not the tragedy they imagined. In Henrik Ibsens play A Doll s House, the character

Essay on Effects Of Video Games On Youth
Excessive video game playing has been a problem with today s youth they have had more
influences over the youth than ever before. That brings to my attention a question, how do video
games affect the youth of our society? Excessive video game playing, especially violent video
games, can lead to youth violence, a decrease in academic success and many other negative
things. I realize that some parents believe that they can be good for children, I agree but I also
disagree in some cases. Some parents allow their children to play video games to keep a social
life and to learn how to use strategies. This is true in some cases but not in all cases. For instance,
other children that play video games alone and are in their rooms constantly can... Show more

On the other hand, considering a specific violent video game may have the reverse effect and
actually reduce perceptions of negative effects if it is difficult to generate arguments for negative
effects of the specific game (Ivory, Kalyanaraman 4). Although you may believe that violent video
games increase the youth violence rates, in actuality some violent video games can have separate
effects on youth depending on the child for instance, one child could become more violent whereas
another child will not have the urge to be violent.
Playing video games for hours at a time in one day, every day of the week can lead to another
major problem, gaming addiction. Youth may become obsessed with the game and think they
have to beat it before they do anything else and never want to leave their rooms because they
want to consistently play the game. Dr. Russell A. Sabella states in his article on Education.com
that: for most people, computer use and video game play is integrated into their lives as a
balanced manner. For others, time spent on the computer or video games is out of balance and
has displaced work, school, friends, even family (Sabella). Becoming addicted to video games can
cause a lot of problems in the family because some parents like to have family dinners and they

colonial period began and immigration to the States was pushed in many different aspects of
everyday Filipino culture. Another reason for leaving the Philippines was due to the economic
problems many had in the Philippines. America was advertised as the Land of Paradise on posters
all throughout the Philippines, and many labor recruiters assured natives that money could be made

The first batch of Filipino immigrants who ended up in San Francisco was relatively small and

it was expensive to pay for and was a long distance from home. The trip from the Philippines to
San Francisco took nearly a month by ship, meaning their stay would be long term. Those brave

Alfred Dreyfus was born on October 9, 1859 in Alsace, France to a Jewish family. He chose to be

the French in the Franco Prussian war led to questioning themselves about how they lost. They

The Stock Market Is Important For Success Or Failure Essay
The stock market can be very risky and it can be intimidating to someone with no experience
dealing with stocks. However, with the right research and a lot of patience it is possible to be
successful, but it will not be without challenges. The stock market can be highly unpredictable and
can fluctuate at times for reasons we either do not understand or cannot see. Even with research and
planning investing in the stock marketis a risk, so it is better to approach it with the most
information possible. How well you understand stocks and the stock market can be key factors in
your success or failure.
The first thing a person starting out in stock market investments will need to research is
themselves. You will need to look closely at your financial situation and figure out not only how
much you can afford to invest, but how much you can afford to lose. While these two things
sound like they would be the same thing, they are not. Most people tend to think of investing as
making money, not losing it. However, it is possible that a person could lose everything that they
invested. The stock market crash in 1929 left many investors penniless and devastated
(Colombo). You have to research your finances and decide how much to invest with this type of
possibility in mind. The stock market is very unpredictable and the right research here can be the
difference between bouncing back after a loss and losing everything. You also need to figure out

Aboriginal Land Rights Essay
Aboriginal Land Rights
Aboriginal Australians have always had an eternal bond with the land. For the 50,000 years or
more, they have occupied the continent; the land provided not only the basic needs, but also the
spiritual beliefs. In the Dreaming, the forms of the land, mountains, rivers, landscapes and animals
took shape and the spirit of ancestors resided in places that became sacred sites to the Aboriginal
people. The land to these people were their most precious commodity.
When white settlement began in Australia in 1788, the concept of terra nullius {the land belonging

Federal Government to legislate to protect any native title that had survived 200 years of

The Native Title Act 1993 is part of the Commonwealth Government s response to that historic High

The Act does five things:
* It recognises and protects native title.
* It provides a regime to enable future dealings in native title lands and imposes conditions on those

* It provides for the validation of any past grants of land that may otherwise have been invalid
because of the existence of native title
* It establishes a regime to ascertain where native title exists, who holds it and what it is, and to
determine compensation for acts affecting it.
* It creates a land acquisition fund to meet the needs of dispossessed Aboriginal and Torres Strait

A Good Deed Can Brighten Even The Darkest Of Worlds
It is said that a good deed can brighten even the darkest of worlds. Opportunities to help others
can come in a variety of ways and each is important, in its own respect. While microfinancing and
charitable programs both have their respective benefits, in certain circumstances one may be more
appropriate than the other. Charity should be implemented in times of emergency because it
provides short term aid with no strings, prevents banks from capitalizing on tragedy and provides
massive aid, whereas microfinancing loans should be utilized so that individual borrowers
experience long term assistance and so that jobs can be created in impoverished areas. Charity is
more beneficial tham microfinancing loans particularly in times of severe crisis. Philanthropy is
absolutely vital when tragedy strikes. After natural disasters, individuals are not thinking about long
term financial security for their family but rather when their children may get their next meal and
where they will lay their heads at night. Loans are not effective these situations. The effects of
loans cannot be appreciated because the borrower immediately must begin planning how to pay
them back. Although it is not directly stated on the Kiva website, it can be inferred that the
microfinancing system in Nepal crumbled beneath the rubble of the earthquake in early 2015.

Port Botany Essay
Overview Port Botany, Australia
Ports are economically and strategically important to a country as they facilitate trade and promote
the local and national economy. Globally, ports handle above 90% of cargo and are an important
element in global logistics and supply chains (Song Parola, 2015). In Australia, ports enhance the
country s competitiveness, regional developments, supply chain connectivity and provide jobs
(Ghaderi, Cahoon Nguyen, 2016).
Sydney s first container terminal was built in 1969 in Port Jackson, and a second terminal at Glebe
Island was operable in 1973. Most of Eastern Australia s container traffic was handled by these two
facilities until Port Botany s facilities were developed (Robinson, 1985).
Port Botany is a deep water seaport which is dominated by trade in containerised manufactured
products as well as bulk liquid imports which includes natural gas and petroleum (NSW Ports
Botany, 2013). It handles about one third of Australia s maritime container traffic and is the nation
s second largest container port. In the year 2011 12, the proportion of containers transported by
road at the port was 86%, while the remaining 14% was transported by rail (Guimarans, Harabor
Van Hentenryck, 2015).
Analysis of the day to day operation of the port
The first stage in the operation cycle of a port begins when ships, trucks or rails arrive, which is
followed by the inspection of containers and cargo. Generally, cranes are used to unload the

Post Classical Islam Dbq
During the Post Classical Era, the leadership of Prophet Muhammad aided in the creation of the
religion of Islam. Unlike any other religion, Islam spread exponentially through trade routes,
appealing to the needy and conquest of new areas. As the religion began to gain massive coverage
across Afro Eurasia, it impacted the Post Classical World both politically and culturally. During the
Post Classical Era, the spread of Islamled to significant political effects such as rise of caliphates,
sultanates and empires that expanded to new areas. Furthermore, the spread of Islam had various
cultural contributions such as spread of new traditions and arts. During the Post Classical Era, Islam

Document 3 was written by a renowned Sufi Islamic poet named Rumi, and it was about a
mystical encounter with the divine. Since the author is a dedicated Muslim, it makes sense that
he is appealing to non believers to convert using his art of poetry. Thus, as a result of the spread
of Islam, arts like poetry were enhanced in the Post Classical World. However, Document 4
directly contradicts the perspective of Document 3 because it de campaigns the cultural
contributions of Islam and renders the spread of Islam as immoral and inferior. Document 4 was
written by a Christian ambassador to the court of Sultan Suleyman, named Ogier Ghislen de
Busbecq about his memoirs in the mid 1500 CE. It makes sense that he depicts the Islamic customs
negatively because he exposes the undermining of women and polygamy practiced in Islamic
society. Thus, the spread of Islam diffused Islamic social customs and traditions such as polygamy.
On the other hand, Document 6 corroborates the argument of Document 3 as it suggests that Islam
led to the enhancement of arts such as sciences. Document 6 was written Hunain ibn Ishaq, a
Muslim scientist of the Abbasid Empire. This document was a document in Ishaq s medical
journal. The authors conveys how the spread of Islam led to advances in education and sciences,

United States Loss to Vietnam Essays
United States Loss to Vietnam There were many reasons for the USA s loss in the Vietnam War.
There is no singular reason for the USA s loss; instead there are many, and each of these
contributes to the end result. Some historians believe that the USA didn t lose the war at all. The
USA first invaded Vietnam on the 8th March 1965, with the first 3,500 US marines landing on
Vietnam soil, this seemingly small amount of troops would mass to 525,000 in 1967. America first
involved themselves in Vietnam because of the Policy of Containment in this policy it made it clear
that the USA was to stop the spreading of communism. The Domino theory was also a persuasive
element. It suggested in the Domino... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gender Identity Development Report
The neighborhood I grew up in was seemingly perfect. One winding street with cul de sacs
attached all lined with four models of the same single story family home. Winding paths,
playgrounds, and a basketball court are tucked between houses. Higher ranked officers lived
towards the top of the hill near the school and lower ranking officers live lower down the hill.
On the left is enlisted housing with even more winding roads but with duplex and triplex houses.
Every home looks the same and so do most of the families: dad is in the Marines (sometimes the
mom, especially if she is a nurse), at least two children, maybe a dog, two cars, lots of bikes,
scooters, and basketball hoops in the front yard. It was so ordered and looked perfect, truly... Show

Upper elementary school is on the cusp of adolescence, puberty is on the bright and blinding
horizon; in a matter of a few years, sometimes months, we are hit with hormones and crazy
emotions, and basically the emotional and reward centers of our brain take over. Teachers probably
notice this shift, but this age is particularly important for teachers to supply the correct information
about issues of maturing, and encourage healthy coping mechanisms before the emotions and
hormones take over. Context plays a huge role in how children at this critical developmental stage.
Developmental research notes how schools, peers, and family play distinct and important roles in
early adolescent well being and development (Oberle, Schonert Reichl, Zumbo, 2011). These
contexts can make or break this period in their lives: experiences at this age in these contexts,
specifically upper elementary school, go on to effect experiences throughout school (Carlson et al.,
1999). I can definitely attest to this. Living and going to school on a military base, experiences with
specific teachers, a unique family situation, and social dynamics with friends all shaped me into the
student and future educator I am today. Educators should take note of what students are experiences
internally and externally and address concerns about the whole learner, including gender and
identity as it affects many aspects of their

The Eureka Stockade
The eureka stockade... It is defined by many as the beginning of Australia. This historical event has
influenced every person, in that it changed our country s legal system for the better, into the
democracy we know today. For this reason, a documentary needs to be made about the struggles
and journey that these noble diggers went through, to improve the lives of everyone.
The Gold rush that took place in Ballarat, Victoria brought with it much conflict. The Eureka
stockade was a battle between the government and the troops that took place in 1854. Although
the battle took place on December 3rd, the events that led to it, happened during that year. The
outrage first started when Governor Hotham came to power and set up weekly licence checks
and increased the price of licences in order to make money for himself and relieve the debt of the
colony. Over months the licence checks became more frequent and the police became brutal in
order to collect owed fees. On October 7th 1854 digger James Scobie was murdered and his
suspected murderer James Bentley was acquitted due to his friendship with the judge. This made
the miners angrier, and on 17th October 10,000 diggers got together and burnt down the Eureka
hotel in protest. With no action from government authorities being taken to improve the conditions,
the miners formed the Ballarat Reform league at Bakery Hill. It was here on November 11th that
the miners first developed the rights and demands that they would fight for. On

The Debate Over The Nation State
In our modern world many of the traditional boundaries and barriers between nations have become
obsolete. Information, products, services, and culture can be shared around the world at a faster
pace than ever before. The ease at which we can communicate challenges the need for rigid and
highly structuralized systems. This in turn leads to debate over the necessity of the nationstate.
However, like most things in this world the answer is not black or white, but rather a shade of
grey. Nation states have many benefits to them, but they can also cause tension in our world. It
is important to consider both the pros and the cons of a nation state. Many of the arguments
made against the nation state center around the idea that globalization is the way of the future,
as well as a net positive, and that nation states are challenging this process, which leads to
economic and social tension. The traditional role of a nation state has been to benefit its own
citizens by prioritizing its needs over the needs of other nations. By default a nation state
encourages the idea that its people are different than others (Dhanapala, 2001). If a nation state
believes that globalization is not directly in its own interest, regardless of its benefits to others, it
will tend to resist. Recent examples of this include Britain s recent decision to leave the European
Union, as well as Greenland s decision to do the same to the EEC (The EU s predecessor) in 1985.
Both Britain and Greenland heavily

The Mysterious Death of AmericaВґs Greatest Explorer...
The death of America s greatest explorer, Meriwether Lewis is a mystery. Some say it was suicide
and others say it was murder. It was unlikely that Meriwether Lewis committed suicide. This shows
that there is more evidence that he was murdered instead of him committing suicide. Also, there
were investigations that he was murdered instead of him committing suicide. These include the
investigation of the dead body and the investigation of the letters that were written about
Meriwether Lewis. It is likely that he was murdered instead of him committing suicide because it
has been said that Meriwether s companion lied about Meriwether Lewis committing suicide, was
murdered by assassination, and was shot by two gunshots. The first reason why Meriwether Lewis
was killed was that Meriwether s companion, James Neely lied that Meriwether Lewis committed
suicide. James Neely lied by writing a letter to Jefferson, saying that it was suicide. This
experience of doing this led to him being put to court so that they could search for evidence if he
was right or wrong. This shows that at that time, a major named Gilbert C. Russell in the court
said that Meriwether Lewis committed, but the FBI disagreed with him and said that it was
murder. A deposition, allegedly written by major Gilbert C. Russell and produced for General
James Wilkinson s 1811 Court martial, claims that Lewis attempted suicide twice on his way to Fort
Pickering (Memphis) on that final journey. But the FBI

But if all men were created equal then our society would be like Harrison s society. One of the

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead Essay
Tom Stoppard employs many themes in his play Rosencrantz Guildenstern Are Dead. They largely
have to do with life, agency, and identity, so it is important to not take the actions or dialogue of the
play literally. Most of them have deeper meanings that are applicable to any person that questions
the above stated themes. Tom Stoppard uses absurdist devices to explore the theses of humanity s
incapability to comprehend or understand death, fate and free will s prevalence in life, and personal
identity. At the beginning of the play, Rosencrantz and Guildensternare flipping coins. The coins
that land heads up go to Rosencrantz, and for some reason, all of the coins are doing so. After
landing heads up seventy seven times in a row, Guildenstern believes that by the law of
probability, a coin had to have landed tails up at some point (Stoppard, 12). However,... Show more

Mayor Of Casterbridge Character Development Essay
Personal growth is an essential element of human development and progress. However, even
though there are countless opportunities for the characters in Thomas Hardy s novel, The Mayor
of Casterbridge, to embrace and experience this necessary growth, there is an absence of such
personal advancement and progress. Ultimately, the decisions and actions of Michael Henchard,
Lucetta Le Sueur, Donald Farfrae, and Elizabeth Jane all demonstrate repetitive qualities and a
lack of character development which either assist or hinder the justice and moral order of the
characters fates. Throughout Hardy s plot driven novel, the true personalities of the characters
shine forth based upon their responses to the obstacles that they face or the repercussions of their
actions. Some of the characters such as Elizabeth Jane and Donald Farfrae stay true to their own
morals and beliefs as a way to demonstrate their altruism. However, other characters such as Lucetta
and Henchard stay consistent in their own lies in the hope of personal embetterment that only leads
to destruction. Even though Henchard attempts to repent and move past his previous faults by
refraining from alcohol for twenty one years after selling his wife Susan and child Elizabeth Jane,
remarrying Susan after she returns to Casterbridge, and pursuing Lucetta after Susan dies to cover
up their scandal together, Henchard lacks the dignity to move past the lies and the scandals of his
past life. Therefore, when faced with an

dignity because he could no longer interact with other humans. It was the author s idea of the
worst case scenario that could have occurred to a soldier who was injured. The description of his
injuries gave the reader a picture of what it would be like to have lived with no legs, arms, or a face.
It was a gruesome thought that helped personalize the story by making the reader feel bad for the
main character. At this time many perceived fighting in a war to be noble but for most of the
soldiers it was anything but noble.
Many times television shows, movies, and books had glamorized war, but that was not the truth.

Obviously this is not a good solution, which is why we must find other ways to solve our disputes.
This book changed my attitude towards war and the men who fight in them.
As evidenced from the past tense verb in the title of the novel, Johnny Got His Gun takes as its
focus the aftermath of war for a soldier, rather than the optimistic, patriotic prewar time frame
upon which other novels as well as the original song quot;Johnny Get Your Gun quot; focus.
Although the novel remains clear about the fact that Johnny received his injuries from an
exploding shell, Johnny does not ever think back to combat warfare. The novel takes as its
opponent not combat warfare but rather the mentality of warfare and organization of modern
warfare by the moneyed classes. Joe s memories related to the war, such as the Lazarus story, or
the story of the man with a flap over his stomach, do not directly deal with warfare. Instead, these
various memories create a sense of the incomprehensible decay, injury, and pain that result from
war. Joe remembers the stories with a wry tone that gives a sense of the absurdity of each of the
situations such as the rumor about the man who lost his face only to return home and die at his
wife s hands. In this sense, the use of the war in the text remains true to its use in the title of the
novel: the war exists as a precondition for senseless and grotesque injury and

A Visit To A Museum

Entering into the Louvre entrance, I can t help but feel in awe of the museum. Walking up to the
counter, I smile politely, because momma always taught me to be to be polite, and I happily
received my museum pass. I quickly catch up to my group, out of breathe only because I ve
eaten too much food and not exercised in forever. Man I really should hit the gym when I get
home. Stepping off the escalator I am captured by beauty. This beauty is like the dew in the
morning, untouched and wonderful. I am staring at the most extraordinary statues and figures the
naked eye has ever had the pleasure of seeing. No matter my vision problems, there is without a
shadow of a doubt I am seeing things clearly for the first time. Before me is standing statues of
warriors, death, and life. The stark white of the figures makes any evil become instantly pure. I
turn slowly, enjoying this most immensely, and then I see one of the most famous pieces of art

You have inquired about the elements of and what steps are necessary in order for an individual to

Lacey, 262 Md. 94, 97 98 (1971). Moreover, as Van Royen demonstrates, that analysis has
partially been borrowed from the criminal realm in order to determine whether there was an
agreement. The distinction between these two analyses is that in a criminal conspiracy, the
confederacy is the crime, that is, it is the ends of the analysis. In a civil conspiracy, however, the
confederacy is merely a means to the end of determining the greater question of whether the
confederacy is a proximate cause of the plaintiff s damages. Accordingly, while the elements
articulated in Lloyd, 397 Md. at 154, set forth a helpful framework within which to analyze a civil
conspiracy, the overarching consideration is whether one who is not the principal actor in an event
causing harm can nevertheless be said to be a proximate cause of the harm solely by means of their
agreement. With these considerations in mind, the following is an assessment of the elements set

shows you did something with your life. More importantly, the good life can be lived well if you

Andrew Carnegie speaks about poverty in our communities and how the rich have a responsibility.
That responsibility is to use their wealth to promote a better future, but this doesn t necessarily

  • 2. Hypothesis Testing Is The Process Of Which An Analyst May... Hypothesis Testing Paper Monica Gschwind PSY 315 June 8, 2015 Judith Geske Hypothesis testing is the process in which an analyst may test a statistical hypothesis. The methodology used by the analyst is based on the nature of the data used and the main goals of the analysis. The main goal in this is to either reject or accept the null hypothesis. Through testing, results will show that someone who may prove one answer, may not mean that answer is actually correct, for there may be many factors that may change the outcome. For this reason is why researchers the five or one percent probability rates. In this null hypothesis it will prove that there is no difference between these variables. With the single variables it is also proven that there is no difference from zero. Statistical evidence will later prove that if it is indeed proven to be fact or nullified based on the evidence gathered. A null hypothesis is a process in which research may try to disprove, reject or nullify the proposed hypothesis. In a study, the researcher may use the hypothesis based on a specific testable prediction; this is based on a dependent and independent variable in a study. In result, the hypothesis researched will match what the analyst is trying to prove to be true in the problem. The first step one must take when testing a hypothesis is restating the question experience analyzed into an alternative hypothesis and null hypothesis. The following scenario is as follows: Do ... • 3. Essay on Reality-Based Leadership ~ My Opinion Reality Based Leadership Review Though out this paper I will provide my opinion on how accurate Cy Wakeman s book Reality Based Leadership is in the workplace. I will attempt to provide my honest and professional opinion about the techniques Ms. Wakeman outlines in her book about leadership. In my opinion the Reality Based Leadership book is broken down into three main points which are; managing versus leading, leading your employees and yourself, and delegating your authority. During these topics I will summarize what the book talks about then analyze what was discussed and provide my thoughts about whether or not I think it is realistic or wishful thinking. Managing ... I see this practice as trimming the fat of the organization by terminating the ones who are only there to take up space and collect a paycheck. For this strategy to work in today s sue happy world you will have to maintain extensive records of your employees. You will have to sit down with each and every one of them and ensure they know what is expected of them within the organization or the team. By focusing on the top performers within your organization you allow them the latitude to make their own decisions for the tasks that they were assigned. This makes your job as a leader and a manager easier and makes the employees feel they belong to a higher purpose and the satisfaction that they are an integral part of the organization. It will also allow you to focus more on the development of others help them achieve higher degrees of satisfaction and possibly accelerate their career by getting promoted to higher positions within the organization. A successful leader will be contagious within the organization. Stinky Pete of Toy Story 2, is plotted to be the bad guy of the film. He s could also be classified as a sympathetic villain, which will be explained further later. Now, you may or may not have heard of the rhetorical appeals before, but little does one know, that the three rhetorical appeals are applied to the film Toy Story 2and its villain. Let me break it down for you, long ago, there was a brilliant man named Aristotle who noticed a pattern that occurred in language to persuade people to believe a certain thing that was either being marketed, campaigned, or publicly presented. He took notice in the fact that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Woody, who wanted to go back home to Andy and his friends, was hesitant to agree to go to Japan. The Prospector then became afraid of going back into storage when he was so close to freedom and made it his personal goal to keep Woody from leaving. Stinky Pete then became a sympathetic villain here because the actions and decisions he made were all from a fear of being alone and in a box for the rest of his life. The prospector then with all his power uses any method to try to keep Woody from returning home which leads him to use the first rhetorical appeal, ethos. Everybody naturally will respect an elderly person in their life because of the wisdom and knowledge they have gained over the years, therefore, it was no different for Woody to naturally respect Stinky Pete. The Prospector used this to his advantage and created a strong appeal to ethos. Out of all four members, Stinky Pete would have to be the most valuable since he had never been opened or taken out of his box. Proven by when Jessie tells Woody, The Prospector! He ll wanna meet ya! Say hello to the Prospector! , Woody then replies, I It s a box , He s mint in the box, never been opened , Jessie says (Toy Story 2). • 6. Wal Mart s Core Competencies Essay There is a growing body of literature that recognises the importance of Resource Based View (RBV) in strategic management. This paper attempts to identify Wal Mart s core competencies, applying RBV literature such as VRIO framework with supporting evidence from Wal Mart Stores in 2003 case study. RBV suggests that each firm acquires a collection of capabilities, which can be mobilised by strategists to gain competitive advantage (McGee et al., 2005). In other words, a firm can be viewed as a bundle of resources, which are the drivers of strategy and growth in a firm. When creating a unique product, a firm also develops a unique competence (Mintzberg et al., 2009). Prahalad and Hamel (1990) ascertained that three tests could be used to determine a core competence. Foremost, a core competence should provide a promising access to a variety of markets. Second, a core competence would make a substantial contribution to the end product in view of customers. Lastly, a core competence should be unique, hard to imitate. In fulfilling the three tests, a resource would be a core competence of a firm. Moreover, to be a sustainable competitive advantage (SCA), Barney (1991) stated that a corporation s resources should consist of four characteristics: (i) valuable, in adding value creating strategy to the product, not in the monetary sense, (ii) rare, in view of the business current market position, (iii) imperfectly imitable and (iv) non substitutable. Questions and Answers on Privacy Laws List and describe at least three (3) technologies that allow an individual to research citizens private data The internet, cookies, and databases are three technologies which can potentially allow individuals to locate private information. Overtly, online web based transactions require specific personal identifiers to be yielded by the purchaser. Through online social media, blogs, and web posts, private information intended for a selective audience can easily be researched by the mass market. Equally, and practiced in commercial settings, transacting on the Internet allows other data to be recorded on the private transaction that is less evident by the purchaser. For example, cookies, store data on behavior, such as which web pages are visited by the individual and how frequently they are visited. In addition cookies can also reveal online shopping behavior. These cookies are then analyzed by the company to determine potentially targeted advertising initiatives. Databases, by virtue of their size, presents additional complications in regards to private date. There is so much information stored in many databases worldwide that an individual has no practical means of knowing of or controlling all of the information about themselves that can potentially be accessed by others. • 10. Analysis Of Woodrow Wilson s The Straw That Broke The... Following WW1, Europe was left in a bad state. Empires were destroyed and states were being formed. The Minority question that arose following the war, albeit important, was not as much of a destabilizing force in this time as people like to think. It was only the byproduct of events that took place. These events include the publishing of the fourteen points, the settlements made during the Paris Peace conference, and the creation of state constitutions. The minority question was, in essence, the straw that broke the camel s back, breaking the already damaged infrastructure of post war Europe. In order to answer the question on why minority rights became such a destabilizing force after the war, we must first look at what caused this problem to become the forefront of many European minds. Two pivotal events took place following the war that left stains on Europe; stains that, to some, indirectly led to the start of World War 2. The first and most important event was the publishing of Woodrow Wilsons fourteen points on January 8, 1918. These points were created in the hope to promote peace and harmony among the recently war stricken nations of Europe. One prominent point that came from this document was the idea of self determination. This encouraged people to form their own nation where they could choose rulers and live amongst others who share the same culture. This piqued the interest of the millions of people living in the various, and heavily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Private Market And Venture Capitalist Mr. Whitney presented enlightening information regarding entrepreneurship, why it is important and how the private market or venture capitalist are so important in investing in entrepreneurs. Venture capital is changing the global economy as banks are not investing in businesses anymore other than lending funds. Wealth creation has changed due to the internet and today wealth creation is out pacing the wealth created by inheritance (M. Whitney, personal communication, May 21, 2016). An axiom from Mr. Whitney s company is networks create and disrupt net worth. As explained, networks bind things together, but they take away somewhere else. This can be illustrated in the railroad industry. The railroad created a network, which tied the east and west coast together, facilitating travel and movement of goods from coast to coast. However, the railroad industry disrupted net worth of the horse and buggy industry, as this mode of transportation was replaced. It is typical for organizations to follow a common business model within an industry but, if you assume that there is only one business model, then your organization gets disrupted and you are blindsided. Another idea presented was retail is a good indicator of market shifts, with three big trends portrayed in retail that is extended to every industry as a predictive indicator. One of these trends is consolidation, which we see companies buying up companies, therefore the customer base is getting smaller. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. John Smith True Relation Summary Dear Disney, Because of John Smith s two contradictory accounts and love for attention, I do not believe that Pocahontas saved his life. Smith wrote two books about his time in Virginia. In the first book, True Relation (est. 1608), John writes that he was peacefully accepted into the tribe, and that he was assisted and fed with grace. One interesting thing to note is that Smith does not mention Pocahontas in this first story. Sixteen years later, John Smith published another chronicle of his visit to the Powhatan tribe. This book is called General History (est. 1624), and speaks more critically of the tribe. Then I was dragged by many hands, and they laid my head on the stones, being ready with their clubs to beat out my brains , wrote ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The timing of the two accounts leads me to believe in the first. Because True Relation was written almost immediately and General History was written so many years after, it is safe to assume that Smith may have become faint in memory of the event by the time the second book was published. Similarly related, John s first book was written as an anecdote while General History was written to interest potential settlers of the area. In True Relation, John writes of thanking Pocahontas for her father s kindness when she comes to Jamestown later in 1608. However, he does not write of thanking her for saving his life. This leads a reader to the conclusion that she did not, in fact, save him. Another interesting contradiction in Smith s multiple accounts is when in another book, A Map of Virginia (est. 1612), Smith describes an execution ritual. He describes a prisoner s head being placed on a sacrificing stone, while one with clubs beats out their brains. Isn t it rather odd that he didn t mention his own experience here, since it sounds just like what happened to him? writes historian Henry Adams in 1867. Jessica Kende English 1030 Abusement Park Orcas are actually the largest member of the dolphin family and the top predator in the marine environment. Spanish whalers called Orcas whale killers after observing them hunt in packs, killing or overcoming marine mammals, including whales (STW Killer Whale). Somehow, their name got turned around to what we name them today; killer whales. However, no accurate report exists of Orcas in the wild killing humans. Orcas are well known for their black shiny bodies with white patches around the eyes and stomach. This coloration has made these majestic large animals the large money makers at corporations such as SeaWorld. This enterprise, however, creates an unsafe environment for the Orcas in order to create a profit. Orcas should not be kept in captivity because it jeopardizes the animals mental and physical health to create a profit and is, therefore, inhumane. Orcas are large whales that live all around the world. They are well known for their dorsal fin, which is located on the top of their body stand erect and are different for each whale. Researchers often use the dorsal fin to identify individual Orcas. There are many different types of Orcas and within these types researchers observe very diverse diets. One percent of people develop schizophrenia in their lifetime; more than two million Americans suffer from schizophrenia in a given year (Spearing, 1999). Although schizophrenia affects men and women equally, it often appears earlier in men than in women; Men are generally affected in the late teens to early twenties and women are generally affected in the twenties to early thirties (Spearing, 1999). Schizophrenia is highly uncommon in children, affecting only about 1 in 40,000 in comparison to 1 in 100 in adults. Many of the victims do not realize they have schizophrenia until they have a first episode psychosis (Aas, Andreassen, Aminoff, Faerden, Romm, Nesvayeng, Berg, Simonsen, Agartz, and Melle. 2016). While many people only know the stereotyped effects of schizophrenia, a better understanding of the symptoms, causes, and possible treatments can clear many stigmas up. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves (National Institute of Mental Health, 2016). • 20. The Dream Argument by Rene Descartes Essay One of Rene Descartes s most famous arguments, from his not only from his first meditation but all of the meditations, is his Dream Argument. Descartes believes that there is no way to be able to distinguish being in awake from being in a state of dreaming. In fact you could actually be in a dream right now. Rene Descartes s theory that one is unable distinguish being awake from dreaming, as interesting as it is, can be at times a little farfetched, along with a few contradictions to himself, Descartes s dreamargument does not entitle himself to any sort of claim. Descartes wrote the Meditations on First Philosophy were first published in the year 1641 in Latin. There are six total Meditations that Descartes had written. One thing that ... The human senses as well feel very real, just as they do in reality, and this is one of the first things that have Descartes question the differences between being awake and dream. Due to the trust issues it he becomes unsure of whether he is dreaming or not. When it comes to dreaming Descartes thinks that there could possibility that some certain God that may have easily deceived him in falsely believing in things could appear to be correct but are not. However Descartes says that it God is described as a supremely good being (Descartes, 21). God has always been a being that is worshiped and why would so many people worship an evil God if he brings no positives to their lives. Descartes however is not 100 percent positive on whether God is being deceptive or not being deceptive. James Hill says that [the] key move that Descartes then makes is to highlight the lack of insight one has into one s condition when dreaming. It is this lack of insight, and Descartes way of interpreting it, which forms the backbone of the dreaming argument (Hill, 2). To shorten that down, the minimal explanations to why and how dreams occur is the foundation for Descartes s Dream Argument. The main idea of Descartes is that there is no difference between being awake and dreaming. Descartes says there are no definite signs to differ dreaming from being awake. You could be possibly ... The groupthink trap is when majority of the group supports an idea and you do not speak up even though you do not agree with the idea (LaForce, 2014). You either are not confident enough to think you are right, or you do not want to cause a disagreement or conflict (LaForce, 2014). My example: I was in a meeting with people who are a much higher up then me and two of those people I do not feel confident around. Actually, one of those people I consider a bully. The team was trying to come up with a solution to a problem. I can see that not everyone agrees with the decision but yet, they are not speaking up. I too did not want to speak up, because I did not want to cause conflict with the two people I mentioned above. I could see the problem was not well defined, and it did not appear the decision made was not the accurate solution for the real problem. In this case, I did not speak up, but since that meeting I have realized that I was right to speak up. Unfortunately, at that time, I lacked the confidents to speak up, but now I do. When I see others wanting to speak up, or are confused, not on the same page, etc., I make a point to say something. The cost of the fermentation medium represents a critical aspect of the commercial production of biocellulose. The cheaper substrate used instead of the commonly used sugars as glucose or fructose might result in a lower cost of the final product. In this context, two algal substrates have been tested such as green alga (U. lactuca) and sea grass (P. oceanic). Data confirmed that P. oceanic was the best substrate in medium HSPO supporting the highest production of biocellulose (5.7 g/l). Carbohydrates are the major component of seagrass and seaweeds (ca. 50 70% on a dry basis) (Uchida, 2011), containing mostly polysaccharides to construct algal tissue. For example, brown algae contain alginate and fucoidan as major components. Red algae contain galactan (e.g. agar, carrageenan) as a major component. Seagrasses and green algae contain hemicellulose and cellulose as major components. These major algal polysaccharides are known to be unfavorable substrates for fermentation. This may be one of the reasons why algal fermentation technology has yet to be developed. Recently, seaweed could be used as a substrate for lactic acid and ethanol fermentation, provided that the algal tissue was saccharified with cellulase enzymes. This finding opened the possibility of obtaining foods and related items from algal fermentation (Uchida, 2002; Uchida and Murata, 2002; Uchida and Murata, 2004). According to all these advances in algal fermentation, we suggest that there is a great possibility of creating a new medium for industrial biocellulose production by G. xylinus using algal fermentation technology in the near ... The Native Title Act 1993 is part of the Commonwealth Government s response to that historic High Court decision. The Native Title Act came into operation on 1 January 1994 The Act does five things: * It recognises and protects native title. * It provides a regime to enable future dealings in native title lands and imposes conditions on those dealings * It provides for the validation of any past grants of land that may otherwise have been invalid because of the existence of native title * It establishes a regime to ascertain where native title exists, who holds it and what it is, and to determine compensation for acts affecting it. * It creates a land acquisition fund to meet the needs of dispossessed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who would not be able to claim native title. • 39. A Good Deed Can Brighten Even The Darkest Of Worlds It is said that a good deed can brighten even the darkest of worlds. Opportunities to help others can come in a variety of ways and each is important, in its own respect. While microfinancing and charitable programs both have their respective benefits, in certain circumstances one may be more appropriate than the other. Charity should be implemented in times of emergency because it provides short term aid with no strings, prevents banks from capitalizing on tragedy and provides massive aid, whereas microfinancing loans should be utilized so that individual borrowers experience long term assistance and so that jobs can be created in impoverished areas. Charity is more beneficial tham microfinancing loans particularly in times of severe crisis. Philanthropy is absolutely vital when tragedy strikes. After natural disasters, individuals are not thinking about long term financial security for their family but rather when their children may get their next meal and where they will lay their heads at night. Loans are not effective these situations. The effects of loans cannot be appreciated because the borrower immediately must begin planning how to pay them back. Although it is not directly stated on the Kiva website, it can be inferred that the microfinancing system in Nepal crumbled beneath the rubble of the earthquake in early 2015. There are currently no borrowers in Nepal despite an impoverished lower class that Kiva frequently lends to in other countries. Charity prevents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Port Botany Essay Overview Port Botany, Australia Ports are economically and strategically important to a country as they facilitate trade and promote the local and national economy. Globally, ports handle above 90% of cargo and are an important element in global logistics and supply chains (Song Parola, 2015). In Australia, ports enhance the country s competitiveness, regional developments, supply chain connectivity and provide jobs (Ghaderi, Cahoon Nguyen, 2016). Sydney s first container terminal was built in 1969 in Port Jackson, and a second terminal at Glebe Island was operable in 1973. Most of Eastern Australia s container traffic was handled by these two facilities until Port Botany s facilities were developed (Robinson, 1985). Port Botany is a deep water seaport which is dominated by trade in containerised manufactured products as well as bulk liquid imports which includes natural gas and petroleum (NSW Ports Botany, 2013). It handles about one third of Australia s maritime container traffic and is the nation s second largest container port. In the year 2011 12, the proportion of containers transported by road at the port was 86%, while the remaining 14% was transported by rail (Guimarans, Harabor Van Hentenryck, 2015). Since the author is a dedicated Muslim, it makes sense that he is appealing to non believers to convert using his art of poetry. Thus, as a result of the spread of Islam, arts like poetry were enhanced in the Post Classical World. However, Document 4 directly contradicts the perspective of Document 3 because it de campaigns the cultural contributions of Islam and renders the spread of Islam as immoral and inferior. Document 4 was written by a Christian ambassador to the court of Sultan Suleyman, named Ogier Ghislen de Busbecq about his memoirs in the mid 1500 CE. It makes sense that he depicts the Islamic customs negatively because he exposes the undermining of women and polygamy practiced in Islamic society. Thus, the spread of Islam diffused Islamic social customs and traditions such as polygamy. This historical event has influenced every person, in that it changed our country s legal system for the better, into the democracy we know today. For this reason, a documentary needs to be made about the struggles and journey that these noble diggers went through, to improve the lives of everyone. The Gold rush that took place in Ballarat, Victoria brought with it much conflict. The Eureka stockade was a battle between the government and the troops that took place in 1854. Although the battle took place on December 3rd, the events that led to it, happened during that year. The outrage first started when Governor Hotham came to power and set up weekly licence checks and increased the price of licences in order to make money for himself and relieve the debt of the colony. Over months the licence checks became more frequent and the police became brutal in order to collect owed fees. On October 7th 1854 digger James Scobie was murdered and his suspected murderer James Bentley was acquitted due to his friendship with the judge. This made the miners angrier, and on 17th October 10,000 diggers got together and burnt down the Eureka hotel in protest. With no action from government authorities being taken to improve the conditions, the miners formed the Ballarat Reform league at Bakery Hill. • 46. The Debate Over The Nation State In our modern world many of the traditional boundaries and barriers between nations have become obsolete. Information, products, services, and culture can be shared around the world at a faster pace than ever before. The ease at which we can communicate challenges the need for rigid and highly structuralized systems. This in turn leads to debate over the necessity of the nationstate. However, like most things in this world the answer is not black or white, but rather a shade of grey. Nation states have many benefits to them, but they can also cause tension in our world. It is important to consider both the pros and the cons of a nation state. Many of the arguments made against the nation state center around the idea that globalization is the way of the future, as well as a net positive, and that nation states are challenging this process, which leads to economic and social tension. The traditional role of a nation state has been to benefit its own citizens by prioritizing its needs over the needs of other nations. By default a nation state encourages the idea that its people are different than others (Dhanapala, 2001). If a nation state believes that globalization is not directly in its own interest, regardless of its benefits to others, it will tend to resist. Recent examples of this include Britain s recent decision to leave the European Union, as well as Greenland s decision to do the same to the EEC (The EU s predecessor) in 1985. • 47. The Mysterious Death of AmericaВґs Greatest Explorer... The death of America s greatest explorer, Meriwether Lewis is a mystery. Some say it was suicide and others say it was murder. It was unlikely that Meriwether Lewis committed suicide. This shows that there is more evidence that he was murdered instead of him committing suicide. Also, there were investigations that he was murdered instead of him committing suicide. These include the investigation of the dead body and the investigation of the letters that were written about Meriwether Lewis. It is likely that he was murdered instead of him committing suicide because it has been said that Meriwether s companion lied about Meriwether Lewis committing suicide, was murdered by assassination, and was shot by two gunshots. The first reason why Meriwether Lewis was killed was that Meriwether s companion, James Neely lied that Meriwether Lewis committed suicide. James Neely lied by writing a letter to Jefferson, saying that it was suicide. This experience of doing this led to him being put to court so that they could search for evidence if he was right or wrong. This shows that at that time, a major named Gilbert C. Russell in the court said that Meriwether Lewis committed, but the FBI disagreed with him and said that it was murder. A deposition, allegedly written by major Gilbert C. • 49. Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead Essay Tom Stoppard employs many themes in his play Rosencrantz Guildenstern Are Dead. They largely have to do with life, agency, and identity, so it is important to not take the actions or dialogue of the play literally. Most of them have deeper meanings that are applicable to any person that questions the above stated themes. Tom Stoppard uses absurdist devices to explore the theses of humanity s incapability to comprehend or understand death, fate and free will s prevalence in life, and personal identity. At the beginning of the play, Rosencrantz and Guildensternare flipping coins. The coins that land heads up go to Rosencrantz, and for some reason, all of the coins are doing so. However, even though there are countless opportunities for the characters in Thomas Hardy s novel, The Mayor of Casterbridge, to embrace and experience this necessary growth, there is an absence of such personal advancement and progress. Ultimately, the decisions and actions of Michael Henchard, Lucetta Le Sueur, Donald Farfrae, and Elizabeth Jane all demonstrate repetitive qualities and a lack of character development which either assist or hinder the justice and moral order of the characters fates. Throughout Hardy s plot driven novel, the true personalities of the characters shine forth based upon their responses to the obstacles that they face or the repercussions of their actions. Some of the characters such as Elizabeth Jane and Donald Farfrae stay true to their own morals and beliefs as a way to demonstrate their altruism. This book changed my attitude towards war and the men who fight in them. As evidenced from the past tense verb in the title of the novel, Johnny Got His Gun takes as its focus the aftermath of war for a soldier, rather than the optimistic, patriotic prewar time frame upon which other novels as well as the original song quot;Johnny Get Your Gun quot; focus. Although the novel remains clear about the fact that Johnny received his injuries from an exploding shell, Johnny does not ever think back to combat warfare. The novel takes as its opponent not combat warfare but rather the mentality of warfare and organization of modern warfare by the moneyed classes. Joe s memories related to the war, such as the Lazarus story, or the story of the man with a flap over his stomach, do not directly deal with warfare. Instead, these various memories create a sense of the incomprehensible decay, injury, and pain that result from war. Joe remembers the stories with a wry tone that gives a sense of the absurdity of each of the situations such as the rumor about the man who lost his face only to return home and die at his wife s hands.
