Along with that, girls would pour their heart into the songs they sang from the radio. Fitzgerald spent
a majority of her time imitating the singers broadcasted. Ella first fell in love with the singer Louis
Armstrong. When singing his songs she was able to learn how to sing the style of swing. Later on
Fitzgerald hear of the Boswell Sisters and completely idolized them. Ella said, My mother brought
home one of her records, and I fell in love with it. I tried so hard to sound just like her. (Nicholson 9).
Fitzgerald was able to grasp an incredible tone and foundation for her voice. This lead to her future
career as a singer. The types of music also created a different style in her voice. Throughout her
childhood scat, jazz and swing were very popular. Ella would practice scat in which would develop
her ability to use her voice as an instrument. She had a deep interest in it. She worked hard and soon
became known as the best scat singers of her time. (Capstone Press). When Fitzgerald sang jazz she
had the ability to put more emotion into her songs. Along with those styles of music Fitzgerald
practiced swing, which helped her develop incredible rhythm. These all added structure to Ella s
voice. In 1934 Fitzgerald s singing career began to take off. Fitzgerald s first big debut was at the

Analysis Of Quixote s Soldiers By Cesar Chavez Essay
Depicted on the cover of Quixote s Soldiers is a group of Mexican American men and women in
protest formation. They carry with them signs that say Justice for La Raza, Ando sangrando igual que
tu, and Cops out of our communities! David Montejano argues that Mexican American reform groups
are often left out of the Civil Rights Movement taught in a classroom. San Antonio was the birthplace
of the Chicano movement. Here, various organizations were formed to encourage the government to
increase Mexican Americans opportunities in the educational field as well as in the work field. The
Brown Power movement campaigned for Mexican Americans to reject assimilation into the American
mainstream society, and celebrate their Chicano history. La Causa, or The Cause of this movement,
began as farm worker strikes in California and Southwest region. (Montejano, 10) Farmworkers
demanded fair wages and suitable working conditions, but they also faced inequality outside of the
workplace. Inspired by Cesar Chavez, young Chicanos in San Antonio began to form organizations
that would challenge the injustice and inequality treatment they faced as citizens of the United States.
The Civil Rights Movement of African Americans also impacted and influenced the young generation
of the Chicano Movement. They shared one common enemy: the white elite. Their basic rights as a
citizen were being withheld and they organized to fight to retrieve them. The West and South regions

The Code Of Ethical Conduct
Ethics in research are ideally the norms or the morals every person should adhere to when conducting
research. In essence, ethics in research entails conducting research in a way that the method or
procedure employed, the purpose of the research and the way one publishes his or her research
findings adheres or exemplifies good conduct. This alludes to the notion that moral rules and
professionalism extends to even the collection of research objects, analysis of the same, and
publication of gathered information about the research objects for purposes of distributing to third
parties.
Generally, ethical standards even in other aspects of life tend to be ungoverned by law and only
observed by individuals through their conscience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of them is that the researchers should not have been forced into the research. They should be
undertaking it free from undue pressure. This principle, otherwise referred to as principle of voluntary
participation, will ensure the autonomy of the participants which is a very vital element in the process
of research. Another principle is that the research should be of such a value that it outweighs the
potential risks or probable harm that the researchers will face. Also, the participants should be
sufficiently informed in regards to all aspects of the research. (Apa.org, 2015)
In essence, ethics in research are of great significance. Firstly, it promotes the purpose of the research.
Different researches are conducted for different purposes and for different audiences. In the world of
academics, ethics in research are key in promoting the research s objective. The findings of the
research becomes more reliable and the researcher comes off as one with dignity and integrity. This
also helps to create a good relationship between the researcher and the consumers of his or her
academic work or also if the research was intended for an academic assignment, the researcher s
credibility is enhanced. (Deakin.edu.au, 2015) More often than not, a research that is guided by ethics
will have its purpose based on good deeds. These deeds includes academic purposes such undertaking
assignments, correcting an erroneous piece of information,

Chemical Reaction On Chemical Change
Analyzing chemical change
Abstract
Changes can be chemical or physical in nature. If a chemical change is taking place we will be
breaking bonds and forming new bonds and therefore creating a new substance. In a Physical change
we will have the same substance but simply in a new form. (Dickinson et al. 197). In order to collect
evidence to prove a chemical change is occurring we need a change in the indicators. The more active
a chemical is the more likely it will have a chemical reaction with another chemical. (Dickinson et al.
180) The higher the element is on the Activity Series the more reactive it is. (Dickinson et al. 192) A
reactive element will replace an element that is underneath it in the activity series. (Dickinson et al.
192) In this lab we will examine chemical reactions with the activity series, indicators and the type of
chemical reaction it is. The purpose of this lab is to study chemical change and analyze why and how
chemical reactions are created. In this lab we are going to combine certain chemicals with each other
to create a chemical change and we will observe and record any changes. The chemical reactions
listed in the Results had all gone through chemical change and all the indicators have been recorded.
Chemical change is very important and we need to learn more about them because without chemical
change we couldn t perform daily tasks.

Black Cat Consequences
The Consequences Behind Bloodshed
In his short story The Black Cat, Edgar Allan Poe uses the drastic changes in one s mind by drinking
alcohol and the pressure of guilt to create an unreliable narrator, because it can easily modify the
narrator s judgement towards his cat, Pluto. Before the narrator starts drinking, he loves animals and
contain a variety of them in his house. Right after the addiction of alcohol, the narrator physically and
verbally abuses his pets, which causes one night, returning home, much intoxicated, from one of [his]
haunts about town, [he] [fancy] that [Pluto] [avoids] [his] presence (Poe 5). The narrator is drunk and

Comparison Of Thomas Malthus And Garret Hardin Cycle Of...
Poverty is the discrepancy between the powers of reproduction and the ability to expand food
production. People are poor because there are too many of them, and they keep having children in
spite of their poverty. Poverty exists because of overpopulation. Providing relief to the poor will
simply encourage them to have more children. Poverty is an economic issue, and eliminating poverty
will not only benefit the individual, but will benefit the entire country. Both Thomas Malthus and
Garret Hardin proved poverty is the fault of the individual and therefore it is their responsibility to
eliminate it. Wealthy nations are not responsible for eliminating poverty among the poorer nations. To
begin, poverty goes hand in hand with overpopulation. Poor people choose to continue to reproduce
which ultimately leads to them continuing the cycle of poverty. The poor people are to blame for their
poverty and it is their job to reduce population and eliminate poverty. Malthus proves that poverty will
always be with us because of population increase. Poverty is the result of the poor people, who lack
moral standards, and refuse to change their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The population continues to increase geometrically while subsistence only increases arithmetically
(Malthus 325). The poor people start having families at a young age and continue to reproduce.
Essentially this leads to overpopulation, which in the long run leads to us occupying all of the land and
running out. This makes it harder for people in poverty to find work because so many people are
looking for jobs. Labor prices then cost less, but because of the lack of food the price for it goes up.
This ultimately leads to the poor people having to work more and harder to make money. Once they
make money, and are able to buy food and provide for their family, they believe they are well off
which leads to them reproducing and the poverty cycle starting all over again (Malthus

Persuasive Essay On Raising The Flag
Raising the Flag
September 11, 2001 was when the world thought it was over. Just by raising the flag from the ground,
it changed the image of America. Not only did the world suffer in fear, families from all over America
lost loved ones in this tragedy. Every day, there are cops, firefighters, soldiers, etc., who put their lives
on the line to protect citizens and their freedom from the ones who try to destroy that. On this day,
thousands of citizens watched their fears happen right in front of their eyes, while the heroes on the
ground stood in danger to save the innocent people. This picture represents heroic symbolism of men
and women whose lives will never be forgotten. Even with all the hate in the world, the United States
still keeps its ground by standing as one, keeping the flag raised to show we can overcome any
adversity, a symbolism of freedom, and religion/skin color does not define us.
The United States has been known for standing its ground since the first war. What used to be the
tallest buildings in America is now known as what used to be the tallest buildings. The top of the
building has now met the ground and in the picture, it shows what strength Americans have to stand
back up and start picking up the debris. These firefighters prove that in this picture. They are raising
the flag from the ground, as if they just got done with a war. Although, it seemed to have been a war
America was not aware of, it left with people dying and demolished buildings. These three firefighters
were the only people in this picture that we can see standing their ground by raising the flag, but all of
America was right next to them knowing they would overcome this adversity.
What the terrorists did not know was that even with the most heartache event in American history,
America still overcame this disaster and raised the American flag from the ground. As you can see in
the picture, the buildings have crumbled from a strike of hate. There are metal pieces that were part of
the building that are still standing. By the way the firefighters outfits look, you can tell that the towers
have collapsed not long before they started to raise the flag. In the background, there is dark dust and
metal scraps stacked like

Summary Of Helen In Sappho s Odyssey And Helen
Faith Butler
CLA
October 3, 2017
Title
Homer is a legendary writer who is foreshadowed by many other writers in his work. While most
agree with and follow in Homers footsteps, there are also those who deliberately see and do things in a
dissimilar way. This can be presented by the use of the character, Helen, in the Odyssey and in Sappho
s Fragment 16. Homer and Sappho use Helen in their stories in conflicting ways to differentiate epic
and lyric poetry while also expressing different ideas and perspectives.
In both the Odyssey and Sappho s Fragment 16, Homer and Sappho speak of and acknowledge Helens
beauty. Though, they do so in different ways. In the Odyssey, Homer compares Helen to that of a
goddess using Artemis as an example. Although homer describes her beauty in a positive light, he also
claims that Helens attractiveness caused the Trojan war and the death and suffering of many. when all
you Achaeans fought at Troy, launching your headlong battles just for my sake, shameless whore that I
was (160). Therefore in the Odyssey, Helen is depicted as an intricate character. In epic poems, this is
a trend that can be seen throughout the reading as the writing style goes into greater detail. One can
also conclude that Homer tends to focus on the negative and emphasize war.
In fragments 16, Sappho claims that mortals cannot compare to the beauty of Helen. Sappho remains
simple and to the point with her description of Helen. Unlike Homer, Sappho claims that the cause of

Colonialism In Canada
Through the transfer of disease, oppression, and urbanization, colonization has had a massive effect on
the health of both colonists and indigenous peoples. Through a colonial perspective, health is defined
as a state of complete physical, mental, and social wellbeing and a dynamic condition resulting from a
body s constant adjustment and adaption in response to stresses and changes in the environment for
maintaining an inner equilibrium called homeostasis (World Health Organization). The concept of
global health is born from the relationship between health and colonization, or the policy or practice of
acquiring full or partial control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it
economically. Colonialism has had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the introduction of non native diseases and the facilitation of the spread of diseases amongst to
the cycles of poverty, disease, and poor mental health, colonization has had a huge negative impact on
the indigenous peoples in the area. The introduction of smallpox to the Americas from rats that were
stowed away on European ships caused a plague to erupt in the communities and lead to the use of
biological warfare against the Native Americans via smallpox blankets. In addition to biological
warfare, European colonists sent indigenous students to residential schools which has caused historical
trauma throughout generations of indigenous people in Canada. Colonization has also caused cycles of
poverty and disease which causes poor mental health due to stress and a lack of emotional support
from the community and helps facilitate the spread of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted
diseases due to the fact that women will sell themselves to sustain a livelihood. Colonization has had a

Pros And Cons Of Human Genetic Modification
Human genetic modification is that direct manipulation of the genome using molecular engineering
techniques. Also known as gene editing and can be implied in two different ways, somatic and
germline modification. Somatic ads, cuts or changes the genes in some of the cells of an existing
person. While germline genetic modification changes the genes in embryos most known as gene
editing for reproduction. These alterations would appear in every cell of the mother who developed the
embryo and although it has not be tried in humans, it will soon be. Human germline modification is
prohibited in more than 40 countries as it can be dangerous. Many people do not see the danger

The Tale Of Frankenstein By Mary Shelley
Although humans have the tendency to set idealistic goals to better future generations, often the
results can prove disastrous, even deadly. The tale of Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, focuses on the
outcome of one man s idealistic motives and desires of dabbling with nature, which result in the
creation of horrific creature. Victor Frankenstein was not doomed to failure from his initial desire to
overstep the natural bounds of human knowledge. Rather, it was his poor parenting of his progeny that
lead to his creation s thirst for the vindication of his unjust life. In his idealism, Victor is blinded, and
so the creation accuses him for delivering him into a world where he could not ever be entirely
received by the people who inhabit it. Not only failing to foresee his faulty idealism, nearing the end
of the tale, he embarks upon a final journey, consciously choosing to pursue his creation in vengeance,
while admitting he himself that it may result in his own doom. The creation of an unloved being and
the quest for the elixir of life holds Victor Frankenstein more accountable for his own death than the
creation himself.
Delivered into the world, full grown and without a guardian to teach him the ways of the human
world, the creation discovers that he is alone, but not without resource. He attempts to communicate to
his creator; however, he is incapable of speech. As Frankenstein recounts the situation, he says, I
beheld the wretch the miserable monster whom I had created.

How Did Islam Influence Trans Saharan Trade
Following the advent of the current era, West Africa with the Western Sudan empires of Ghana,
Songhai, and Mali was the center of outside contact and influence with the spread of Islam and being a
center of the Trans Saharan trade. Being a part of the Trans Saharan trade gave West Africans a
connection with those outside the continent, namely in Europe and Southeast Asia. It also gave the
opportunity for things other than goods to be exchanged like Islam. Africans adopted and shaped
Islam into their own religion that others besides them also learned and accepted. The camel arrived in
Western Africa after the first century of the current era. In a desert environ, nothing could top the

The effects of the Trans Saharan trade are evident through looking at the currencies used in Western
Africa. Igbo Ukwu, in modern day Nigeria, shows that by the ninth century West Africa was not
isolated from the outside world, as for some its trading goods included over one hundred thousand
glass beads, mostly from Egypt and India. The Almoravids also exported gold coins to infiltrate
Europe s economy by accompanying its silver currency. During the height of Western African
empires, Africans had a lot of interaction with people outside the continent that they were both
influenced by and affected themselves.
East Africa after the sixteenth century had grown to be an international center where many outsiders
would come to trade. By the 1500s, East Africa was starting to become a thriving trading center, with
several Europeans and Southeast Asians coming to stay for several months due to the strong monsoon
trade winds. They were not just intermediaries in trade but consolidators and producers, with Kilwa
playing the middleman. Portuguese seeing this success, attempted to establish an East African empire
there but failed due to several conditions the main being how strong the Africans were against

Dualism In The Metamorphosis
Duality is a theme prevalent in many novels and stories that explores concepts such as good versus
evil or conflicts of inner self. It can sometimes manifest itself through a transformation that allows
readers to understand these types of complex conflicts in a more physical sense. In Franz Kafka s The
Metamorphosis and Robert Louis Stevenson s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde there is a
theme of undergoing a physical transformation that affects the two main characters of each story in
drastically negative ways. The use of magical realism and the archetypal journey of transformation
allows for both authors to create a shadow self of their main characters.
The Metamorphosis explores a series of physical, emotional, and psychological transformations that
impact the protagonist, Gregor Samsa, as well as his family and how they treat him. Unlike other
stories that depict the archetypal journey of the transformation, Gregor s change occurs in the very
beginning of the story as he wakes up one morning from unsettling dreams [and finds] himself
changed in his bed into a monstrous vermin (Kafka 1). Though his external appearance has been
altered, his mind remains intact as he begins questioning how this could have happened to him and
how he is going to get to work. The discord between mind body and mind leaves Gregor in a state of
unrest. As the story progresses, Gregor begins acting more and more like the insect that he has
become, but his mind never fully copes

Motivation and Achievement
Where does the term motivation come from? Is it from within an individual s mindset or is it the
dedication that an individual has that tends to be certain when a task is needs to be completed that it is
done is a positive manner? I believe that humans as a species are motivated in some form or fashion
based upon the degree of what motivates them. It can be from money motivating sales associates,
recognition from the upper management, or even someone being motivated to move forward and
succeed for the family that they live every day for. From childhood I always felt the need to impress
my grandfather, the man who always pushed me to move positively in everything that I did. I knew
then that the encouragement and the support that was provided always by him kept me wanting to
finish the challenges that life handed to me. In high school being on the basketball team for my own
pleasure and for those moments to see his smile no matter how hard I played or what I did wrong in
the game he always let me know how proud he was of me. As I grew older and had my own family I
knew how blessed I was to be able to live my life for my children, keep working to provide a better
life for them, earn more money for bonuses so that I am able to get some of the finer things that life
provides without giving up. Even making this final decision to attend school, work full time and stay
committed as a mother despite how hard it sometimes can be and how it easy it is to give up, I

The Pros And Cons Of A Designer Baby
A designer baby is a baby that has been genetically engineered for selected traits by scientists and
parents. These traits can vary from gender selection to lowered disease risk and much more. In the
future, there will most likely be even more options to choose from. This process is done through in
vitro fertilization (IVF) and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). IVF is when an egg is
fertilization outside the body, usually in a test tube. The egg and sperm sample is usually extracted and
then the two are combined in a laboratory dish. Then, the embryo is moved to the mother s womb. The
purpose of a designer baby is for the parents to be able to artificially select the baby s genetic makeup,
usually to produce desirable traits such as appearance, personality, and intelligence, can also be
modified. This will provide the child with many advantages in life if it is given more genes that can
increase athleticism, intelligence, artistic ability and plenty more according to the parent. Not all of
these options are currently available because our technology is too limited. In the ... Show more

Although it can increase lifespan, provide a better understanding of genetics, and give a child genes
that the parents do not carry, there are many bad side effects. First of all, with designer babies, there
will be termination of extra embryos. This is unethical because it requires the killing of several
humans since life begins at conception. An affect society would face would be a greater divide
between the economically disadvantaged, and the wealthy. Only the upper classes would be able to
afford a designer baby. Consequently, the designer babies would have an unfair advantage in life over
the babies from the lower classes. If this process becomes authentic, there will be a loss of
individuality and damage to the gene pool. Human errors could also cause a lot of trouble since

Southern Ocean Climate Change Research Paper
A Blow Against Climate Change
The Southern Ocean is the world s most effective basin of carbon dioxide absorption, and it has been
recently showing a new vivaciousness to this ability.
Southern Ocean: A Natural CO2 Vacuum
The world s oceans absorb around a quarter of emissions caused by human activities; the burning of
fossil fuels, for example. This reduces the speed of climate change, and about 40% of this absorption
happens in the Southern Ocean, which surrounds the Antarctic. Carbon dioxide gets soaked in from
the air and is then released by the Ocean every year, but with a net uptake. It is the planet s strongest
ocean carbon sink. Earlier studies had suggested that the rising emissions caused by humans had
caused over saturation at the Southern Ocean during the 1980s, and researchers estimated that the

The Southern Ocean is much more variable than initially thought, However, research cannot conclude
that this will continue forever, and that despite this remarkable increase in the Southern Ocean carbon
sink, emissions have gone up even further. He adds that previous research had been largely dependent
on models rather than observation, and that may have drawn inaccurate conclusions as to the rise and
decline of the Southern Ocean s carbon sink function. There is also debate on whether the acidity of
the waters with its increased carbon dioxide uptake may affect sea creatures, such as limiting the
ability of crabs, lobsters and mussels to grow their protective shells, making them vulnerable to
predators, but the new study suggests that since the acidity is plunged into the deep ocean after getting
sucked in, there is little risk of spread out harm to

The Four Flexibility Improvement Options
Paper Case Qs 1) The four flexibility improvement options presented to Kiefner vary considerably in
their cost and their potential effects on strategy and profitability for the company. The first option is
one of the more expensive, but would also lead to some of the most substantive changes in the actual
operations of Machine #4. At the same time, despite the fact that the specialization abilities of the
machine will be significantly enhanced, marketing estimates that only a seven percent premium could
be charged, and only on about thirty percent of the machine s output the expected level of use for
specialized runs under this plan. Switching to a one week changeover cycle, which s the second option
for the machine, is much cheaper and would have a higher yield than the first option, with a five
percent premium on all outputs of the machine if it were operated on this just in time basis. Even if the
changeover time could not be reduced, this would be preferable than an expensive change to the
machine that only affected thirty percent of output. It might be undesirable form a labor standpoint,
however, and this is a major strategic consideration for the company given the current atmosphere.
Cost and profitability enhancements should be weighed against the potentially costly labor issues that
might ensue, while at the same time it must be remembered that a return to competitiveness is
necessary in order to retain jobs. The third option is again expensive the most

Dissociative Identity Disorder ( Dissociative Disorder )
Dissociative Identity Disorder is a disorder distinguished by the existence of two or more distinct
personality states. It is also known as DID or Multiple Personality Disorder. It is very rare, with only
20,000 to 200,000 known US cases per year. Currently, there is no known cure, but treatment can
sometimes help. Many believe that DID can be caused by a significant trauma and is used as a coping
mechanism to help avoid bad memories. The disorders most often form in kids victim to long term
physical, sexual or emotional abuse or, sometimes just a home environment that s frightening or
highly unpredictable. The stress of war or natural disasters close by also can bring on dissociative
disorders.
Dissociative identity disorder is characterized by the presence of two or more distinct personalities.
Each may have a unique name, personal history, and characteristics. The behavioral aspects are:
impulsivity, self destructive behavior, or self harm Mood: anxiety, feeling detached from self, or mood
swings. The psychological aspects consist of: altered consciousness, depression, or flashbacks. Also
common: amnesia or blackout. The only treatment is talk therapy. The therapies are: cognitive
behavioral therapy, family therapy, psychotherapy. Dissociative Identity Disorder is often confused

Naguib Mahfouz’s Zaabalawi Essay
Naguib Mahfouz s Zaabalawi
The Islamic tradition, as reflected in Naguib Mahfouz s Zaabalawi, has over the course of history had
an incredible impact on Arab culture. In Mahfouz s time, Islamic practices combined with their
political relevance proved a source of both great power and woe in Middle Eastern countries. As
alluded to in Zaabalawi, Mahfouz asserts the fact that not all Muslims attain religious fulfillment
through this common tradition, and other methods outside the scope of Islam may be necessary in true
spiritual understanding.
My project emphasizes this spiritual tension by presenting a wineglass inscribed with Qur anic verses.
By examining the purpose and structure of this wineglass, the truth of Mahfouz s ... Show more

In accordance with these symbols of essence, the Qur anic script around the wineglass also proves
applicable to Zaabalawi. It reads, phonetically: Iqra/ warabbuka al akramu, Allathee AAallama
bialqalami. Or in English: Recite in the name of the Lord, who has taught by the pen. This is a passage
from the 96th Surah, Al A laq in the Qur an. Such references to writings and penmanship highlight the
importance of calligraphic beauty in such a society.
Muslims believe that it is important to read the Qur an in Arabic. Their religion teaches that God
intentionally presented the holy book to Arabs because their language holds a secret beauty and truth
not found in others. Thus, if one is to complete the task of reading the Qur an, it must be done in
Arabic or with a corresponding Arabic text. For this reason, I wrote in Arabic script around the glass
because its translation would be incomplete otherwise.
Furthermore, the first command of Allah is Recite! This is reflected in the Muslim appreciation for
both the oral recitation and visual replication of the Qur an. Calligraphy, as a creative expression of
the Qur an, has become a predominant art form in many Muslim countries. The calligrapher in
Zaabalawi, in fact, has had much contact with true spirituality in his mastery of the Arabic script.
Therefore, my act of inscribing Islamic verses would, in their culture, be considered a type of prayer
and homage

Disadvantages Of Steam Irons
If you love light and bright, you will be friends for a long time with the Panasonic NI E660SR. This
Panasonic model is eye catching, not really because of dashing looks, but because of its unique shape
and color combination. Like most Panasonic models, it has a U shaped design and a curved sole plate.
This design allows for pressure to be concentrated at the center of the sole plate during ironing which
allows easier movement of the iron and less tugging. The U shaped design allows steam to be evenly
distributed around the sole plate for efficiency in ironing. As for color, the Panasonic NI E660SR
comes in dazzling white with a splash of magenta .
The handle is just basic plastic, there is nothing fancy. It does not have a comfort grip like the Black
and Decker 2030 or the thumb rest and ergonomic controls of the Rowenta DW2070. It is still
manageable though perhaps because it a light iron. It is possibly one of the lightest steam irons you
will come across. Weighing a paltry 3.1 pounds, it is way lighter than the Sunbeam steam master iron
making it a suitable choice for those with arthritic arms or the elderly. Off course being light has its
own disadvantages especially when dealing with difficult creases in heavier fabrics. ... Show more

It is a versatile iron with variable steam settings that can even transform it to a dry iron if need be.
Unlike many steam iron models, the Panasonic NI E660SR comes with a retractable cord that slides

endeared it to many people who have used

The Bonneville Power Administration ( Bpa ) Service Territory
BACKGROUND
The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) service territory is in the Pacific Northwest. In 1937,
BPA was established to construct facilities required to market and transmit electric power from the
Bonneville Dam located on the Columbia River and to construct facilities necessary to transmit that
power. BPAs mandate has been expanded to be the marketing agent for power from all of the federally
owned hydroelectric projects in the Pacific Northwest, as one of four regional Federal power
marketing agencies within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
BONNEVILLE POWER ADMINISTRATION
BPA, a power marketing agency of the United States Department of Energy (DOE), supplies roughly
half of the electricity used in the Pacific Northwest. The power that BPA markets comes primarily
from 31 Federal hydroelectric projects (known collectively as the Federal Columbia River Power
System, or FCRPS), and one non federal nuclear plant. BPA is a co manager of the Federal
hydroelectric projects, but it does not own or operate them. Such responsibilities belong to the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau). For the purpose of
this case study, Bureau of Reclamation owns and operates the dams and the Army Corps of Engineers
builds and maintains the dams.
BPA does own and operate about three quarters of the Region s high voltage electric transmission grid.
BPA also promotes conservation and purchases power from several privately owned renewable

Similarities Between Stand By Me And Looking For Alibrandi
Stand By Me, a 1986 film directed by Rob Reiner, and Looking for Alibrandi, a 1992 novel by Melina
Marchetta, are two texts designed to inspire teenagers and young adults through entertaining and
relatable life happenings of their main protagonists. The two texts share a similarity in that both
protagonists deal with challenges, uncertainties and insecurities. However, these topics vary in such
ways that the stories contrast greatly and potentially appeal to different audiences. Both the 12 year
old Gordie of Stand by Me and senior student Josephine of Looking for Alibrandi are faced with
challenges that have an effect on their lives, like anyone in the real world. A similarity between the
pair is that they both deal with the challenge of losing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gordie s major insecurity is his sensitivity and his intelligence. At the height of his brother s death,
Gordie is well known for getting upset easily, or trailing off into thought about what he could do to
make his parents love him. He is also afraid to be intelligent, as the previous paragraphs have
highlighted. Gordie s friends are not as intelligent as him, and in turn he is very reserved as a way of
not expressing his intellect. To contrast, Josie has no issues expressing her intellect. She is quite happy
to tell people when they are in the wrong, and has no concerns with being brutally honest. This is
potentially in lieu of her upbringing and Italian heritage. However, Josie is very insecure about her
heritage. Throughout the novel she refers to herself as an illegitimate Italian and is insecure about the
expectations that she has to live up to. Josie is constantly anxious about the Italian community and
how much they will talk, talk, talk if she is not normal enough . There are times she falls to her
insecurity and gives into peer pressure such as wagging the school walkathon, but her insecurities
disappear as she learns from her mistakes and realises that following rules is easier. With guidance
from her immediate family, she eventually accepts her Italian heritage, saying, You can t hate what
you re part of... I resent it most of the time, curse it always, but it ll

Sportsmanship Essay
Sportsmanship
Sportsmanship is the character, practice, or skill of a person involved in sports.
This includes the participant, the parents, the coaches, and all spectators. Sportsmanlike
conduct includes fairness, courtesy, learning to be a good loser, being competitive
without rude behavior, or experiencing any ill feelings toward the opponent.
Too often in any sporting event, the purpose of the sport is forgotten. Winning
has become overwhelmingly important to the adults involved. This attitude is
inflicted on the youth. People of all ages should be allowed to fully embrace the
challenge and fun of playing sports. Teaching, coaching, motivating, and winning
are fine as long as the reason for the sport or activity is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Too many coaches and parents
tend to forget the reason for sports for children. They get caught up in the excitement
and competitiveness. Winning is the ultimate goal, at all costs. The cost is the
effect this attitude has on the children. I have witnessed this behavior from coaches and
parents, where they have actually embarrassed and humiliated young players in front
of their peers. The negative effect this has on the athletes is obvious. They become
aggressive, sometimes withdrawn and angry, rude, and inconsiderate.
Sports are not just an activity. They form a stepping stone toward the future.
Sportsmanship teaches children how to interact with peers, how to relate and interact
with others. Sports can teach cooperation, sharing, and compassion. At a young
age participation in sports introduces players to rules, and how to incorporate them
into other aspects of life.
A child must realize that losing has absolutely nothing to do with self worth, that
their personal value is not measured by winning or losing, but doing the best that they
can in sports and life. It is important that children and adults be part of a group to
feel acceptance, without the emphasis on winning.
Self confidence does not come from winning or losing, but how the outcome
is handled. If you perform to your best ability, then you have won the only
important game.
Sportsmanship is what the activity

Be A Woman Programmer
In the essay How to Be a Woman Programmer by Ellen Ullman, published by The New York Times,
the author addresses the multiple ways in which gender prejudice is alive and in the computer science
industry today. While women still face discrimination, the inequality is more apparent than ever in the
workplace.
A point Ullman makes is that women in the computer science industry must prove themselves further
than their credentials. Ellen Ullman says But no matter how strong the social structure, there is always
that cheek slapped moment when you are alone with the anti women prejudice: the joke, the leer, the
disregard, the invisibility the inescapable fact that the moment you walk through the door you are seen
as lesser, no matter your credentials (Ullman, 2013), meaning that, even though the woman is more
than qualified, she must still prove herself even when nobody is watching.
Ellen Ullman writes about an account she had with a former employer. She says about the encounter I
had a boss who said flatly, I hate to hire all you girls, but you re too damned smart. By all he meant
three but, at the time, it was rare to find even one woman in a well placed technical position. (Ullman,
2013)
According to Rich and Walker Second wave feminism, beginning in the mid 1960s, tended to focus on
the under representation of women in the workplace. This was expressed with the creation of the
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act (which

Pediatric Pathology Personal Statement
When I first started medical school, I did not know what Pathology entailed as a specialty. My original
goal was then to become an oncologist, pushed by my enthusiasm for the diagnosis process and a
strong personal interest in the pathogenesis of cancer. Before then, I had always found the meticulous
search and gathering of clues to support a discovery to be mentally stimulating. I was never bored.
This is why I had been drawn to research during my undergraduate studies in biochemistry and later
choose to renew my efforts and complete a Master on the subject of molecular genetics, giving me
valuable research experience in histology, oncology and the histopathology of cancer. This passion
continued to shape my life and my aspirations during medical school while I discovered the field of
Pathology.

I will always remember the anxiety often displayed by both physicians and patients awaiting the
results of a biopsy. The relief felt after receiving favourable results. And also, the weight put upon a
pathologist s shoulder. I remember one specific occasion during my clerkship in Paediatric Pathology
when I was assisting a Fellow in an ambiguous case that showed both the features of a chondroma and
of a sarcoma. We both knew that a diagnosis of sarcoma would cost the child his leg. But a mistake on
our part could cost him his life. I was able to fully appreciate that the immense rewards of pathology
are balanced with a heavy responsibility toward vulnerable patients for whom a pathologist mistake
can cause an adverse outcome. This experience would demonstrate to me the utmost importance of
preparation, teamwork, as well as thorough pathological work up for the benefit of the patient, and
renewed my intense determination to become an expert that goes beyond expectations in

Hurricane Katrina Case Study
1. Did human activity contribute to the severity of the storm, or was it an entirely natural disaster?
Support your answer with evidence and citations. The severity of Hurricane Katrina was impacted
largely by the location of its landfall. The storm was well tracked by the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The NOAA noted that the high pressure of the storm at
landfall, the strength of the system and shallow waters offshore all were contributing factors to the
severity of the storm. (Graumann, Houston, Lawrimore, Levinson, Lott, McCown, Stephens, Wuertz:
2005, pg 4). When the storm struck, however, it was found that those who were financially better off
were able to evacuate easier, leaving those in lower income areas to remain amidst the devastation.
Nearly a half million people were excluded from the cities, when FEMA camps were implemented as
a means to reconstruct public housing. (Smith, 2006). The human activity leading up to the storm,
including levees constructed on the shore as well as the NOAA announcement of a hurricane warning,
had been intended to protect the residents of Louisiana and Mississippi. Unfortunately, efforts to
prepare those who would be most devastated by the storm failed. The governmental response in the
wake of the storm greatly worsened the devastation of the storm. What is called glory seeking was the
government s way of encouraging the private sector to get involved with disaster relief. However, the
Federal Emergency

Atherosclerosis Essay
What are some types of heart and blood vessel diseases? HARDENING OF THE ARTERIES, or
atherosclerosis, is when the inner walls of arteries become narrower due to a buildup of plaque
(usually caused by a diet high in fat, cigarette smoking, diabetes or hypertension). This limits the flow
of blood to the heart and brain. Sometimes, this plaque can break open. When this happens, a blood
clot forms and blocks the artery. This can cause heart attacks and strokes. HIGH BLOOD
PRESSURE, also called hypertension, means the pressure in your arteries is consistently above the
normal range. Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against blood vessel walls. It s written as
two numbers, such as 122/78 mm Hg. The top number (systolic) is the pressure ... Show more content

  • 3. Analysis Of Quixote s Soldiers By Cesar Chavez Essay Depicted on the cover of Quixote s Soldiers is a group of Mexican American men and women in protest formation. They carry with them signs that say Justice for La Raza, Ando sangrando igual que tu, and Cops out of our communities! David Montejano argues that Mexican American reform groups are often left out of the Civil Rights Movement taught in a classroom. San Antonio was the birthplace of the Chicano movement. Here, various organizations were formed to encourage the government to increase Mexican Americans opportunities in the educational field as well as in the work field. The Brown Power movement campaigned for Mexican Americans to reject assimilation into the American mainstream society, and celebrate their Chicano history. La Causa, or The Cause of this movement, began as farm worker strikes in California and Southwest region. (Montejano, 10) Farmworkers demanded fair wages and suitable working conditions, but they also faced inequality outside of the workplace. Inspired by Cesar Chavez, young Chicanos in San Antonio began to form organizations that would challenge the injustice and inequality treatment they faced as citizens of the United States. The Civil Rights Movement of African Americans also impacted and influenced the young generation of the Chicano Movement. They shared one common enemy: the white elite. Their basic rights as a citizen were being withheld and they organized to fight to retrieve them. The West and South regions of San Antonio ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In essence, ethics in research entails conducting research in a way that the method or procedure employed, the purpose of the research and the way one publishes his or her research findings adheres or exemplifies good conduct. This alludes to the notion that moral rules and professionalism extends to even the collection of research objects, analysis of the same, and publication of gathered information about the research objects for purposes of distributing to third parties. This principle, otherwise referred to as principle of voluntary participation, will ensure the autonomy of the participants which is a very vital element in the process of research. Another principle is that the research should be of such a value that it outweighs the potential risks or probable harm that the researchers will face. Also, the participants should be sufficiently informed in regards to all aspects of the research. (Apa.org, 2015) In essence, ethics in research are of great significance. • 5. Chemical Reaction On Chemical Change Analyzing chemical change Abstract Changes can be chemical or physical in nature. If a chemical change is taking place we will be breaking bonds and forming new bonds and therefore creating a new substance. In a Physical change we will have the same substance but simply in a new form. (Dickinson et al. 197). In order to collect evidence to prove a chemical change is occurring we need a change in the indicators. The more active a chemical is the more likely it will have a chemical reaction with another chemical. (Dickinson et al. 180) The higher the element is on the Activity Series the more reactive it is. (Dickinson et al. 192) A reactive element will replace an element that is underneath it in the activity series. (Dickinson et al. 192) In this lab we will examine chemical reactions with the activity series, indicators and the type of chemical reaction it is. The purpose of this lab is to study chemical change and analyze why and how chemical reactions are created. In this lab we are going to combine certain chemicals with each other to create a chemical change and we will observe and record any changes. The chemical reactions listed in the Results had all gone through chemical change and all the indicators have been recorded. • 9. Comparison Of Thomas Malthus And Garret Hardin Cycle Of... Poverty is the discrepancy between the powers of reproduction and the ability to expand food production. People are poor because there are too many of them, and they keep having children in spite of their poverty. Poverty exists because of overpopulation. Providing relief to the poor will simply encourage them to have more children. Poverty is an economic issue, and eliminating poverty will not only benefit the individual, but will benefit the entire country. Both Thomas Malthus and Garret Hardin proved poverty is the fault of the individual and therefore it is their responsibility to eliminate it. Wealthy nations are not responsible for eliminating poverty among the poorer nations. To begin, poverty goes hand in hand with overpopulation. Poor people choose to continue to reproduce which ultimately leads to them continuing the cycle of poverty. The poor people are to blame for their poverty and it is their job to reduce population and eliminate poverty. Malthus proves that poverty will always be with us because of population increase. This makes it harder for people in poverty to find work because so many people are looking for jobs. Labor prices then cost less, but because of the lack of food the price for it goes up. This ultimately leads to the poor people having to work more and harder to make money. • 10. Persuasive Essay On Raising The Flag Raising the Flag September 11, 2001 was when the world thought it was over. Just by raising the flag from the ground, it changed the image of America. Not only did the world suffer in fear, families from all over America lost loved ones in this tragedy. Every day, there are cops, firefighters, soldiers, etc., who put their lives on the line to protect citizens and their freedom from the ones who try to destroy that. On this day, thousands of citizens watched their fears happen right in front of their eyes, while the heroes on the ground stood in danger to save the innocent people. This picture represents heroic symbolism of men and women whose lives will never be forgotten. Even with all the hate in the world, the United States still keeps its ground by standing as one, keeping the flag raised to show we can overcome any adversity, a symbolism of freedom, and religion/skin color does not define us. The United States has been known for standing its ground since the first war. What used to be the tallest buildings in America is now known as what used to be the tallest buildings. The top of the building has now met the ground and in the picture, it shows what strength Americans have to stand back up and start picking up the debris. These firefighters prove that in this picture. They are raising the flag from the ground, as if they just got done with a war. Although, it seemed to have been a war America was not aware of, it left with people dying and demolished buildings. These three firefighters were the only people in this picture that we can see standing their ground by raising the flag, but all of America was right next to them knowing they would overcome this adversity. What the terrorists did not know was that even with the most heartache event in American history, America still overcame this disaster and raised the American flag from the ground. As you can see in the picture, the buildings have crumbled from a strike of hate. There are metal pieces that were part of the building that are still standing. By the way the firefighters outfits look, you can tell that the towers have collapsed not long before they started to raise the flag. • 11. Summary Of Helen In Sappho s Odyssey And Helen Faith Butler CLA October 3, 2017 Title Homer is a legendary writer who is foreshadowed by many other writers in his work. While most agree with and follow in Homers footsteps, there are also those who deliberately see and do things in a dissimilar way. This can be presented by the use of the character, Helen, in the Odyssey and in Sappho s Fragment 16. Homer and Sappho use Helen in their stories in conflicting ways to differentiate epic and lyric poetry while also expressing different ideas and perspectives. In both the Odyssey and Sappho s Fragment 16, Homer and Sappho speak of and acknowledge Helens beauty. Though, they do so in different ways. In the Odyssey, Homer compares Helen to that of a goddess using Artemis as an example. Although homer describes her beauty in a positive light, he also claims that Helens attractiveness caused the Trojan war and the death and suffering of many. when all you Achaeans fought at Troy, launching your headlong battles just for my sake, shameless whore that I was (160). Therefore in the Odyssey, Helen is depicted as an intricate character. In epic poems, this is a trend that can be seen throughout the reading as the writing style goes into greater detail. One can also conclude that Homer tends to focus on the negative and emphasize war. In fragments 16, Sappho claims that mortals cannot compare to the beauty of Helen. Sappho remains simple and to the point with her description of Helen. Unlike Homer, Sappho claims that the cause of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The tale of Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, focuses on the outcome of one man s idealistic motives and desires of dabbling with nature, which result in the creation of horrific creature. Victor Frankenstein was not doomed to failure from his initial desire to overstep the natural bounds of human knowledge. Rather, it was his poor parenting of his progeny that lead to his creation s thirst for the vindication of his unjust life. In his idealism, Victor is blinded, and so the creation accuses him for delivering him into a world where he could not ever be entirely received by the people who inhabit it. Not only failing to foresee his faulty idealism, nearing the end of the tale, he embarks upon a final journey, consciously choosing to pursue his creation in vengeance, while admitting he himself that it may result in his own doom. The creation of an unloved being and the quest for the elixir of life holds Victor Frankenstein more accountable for his own death than the creation himself. Delivered into the world, full grown and without a guardian to teach him the ways of the human world, the creation discovers that he is alone, but not without resource. He attempts to communicate to his creator; however, he is incapable of speech. As Frankenstein recounts the situation, he says, I beheld the wretch the miserable monster whom I had created. ... It can sometimes manifest itself through a transformation that allows readers to understand these types of complex conflicts in a more physical sense. In Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis and Robert Louis Stevenson s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde there is a theme of undergoing a physical transformation that affects the two main characters of each story in drastically negative ways. The use of magical realism and the archetypal journey of transformation allows for both authors to create a shadow self of their main characters. The Metamorphosis explores a series of physical, emotional, and psychological transformations that impact the protagonist, Gregor Samsa, as well as his family and how they treat him. Unlike other stories that depict the archetypal journey of the transformation, Gregor s change occurs in the very beginning of the story as he wakes up one morning from unsettling dreams [and finds] himself changed in his bed into a monstrous vermin (Kafka 1). Though his external appearance has been altered, his mind remains intact as he begins questioning how this could have happened to him and how he is going to get to work. This reduces the speed of climate change, and about 40% of this absorption happens in the Southern Ocean, which surrounds the Antarctic. Carbon dioxide gets soaked in from the air and is then released by the Ocean every year, but with a net uptake. It is the planet s strongest ocean carbon sink. • 23. The Four Flexibility Improvement Options Paper Case Qs 1) The four flexibility improvement options presented to Kiefner vary considerably in their cost and their potential effects on strategy and profitability for the company. The first option is one of the more expensive, but would also lead to some of the most substantive changes in the actual operations of Machine #4. At the same time, despite the fact that the specialization abilities of the machine will be significantly enhanced, marketing estimates that only a seven percent premium could be charged, and only on about thirty percent of the machine s output the expected level of use for specialized runs under this plan. Switching to a one week changeover cycle, which s the second option for the machine, is much cheaper and would have a higher yield than the first option, with a five percent premium on all outputs of the machine if it were operated on this just in time basis. Even if the changeover time could not be reduced, this would be preferable than an expensive change to the machine that only affected thirty percent of output. It might be undesirable form a labor standpoint, however, and this is a major strategic consideration for the company given the current atmosphere. Cost and profitability enhancements should be weighed against the potentially costly labor issues that might ensue, while at the same time it must be remembered that a return to competitiveness is necessary in order to retain jobs. The third option is again expensive the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Naguib Mahfouz’s Zaabalawi Essay Naguib Mahfouz s Zaabalawi The Islamic tradition, as reflected in Naguib Mahfouz s Zaabalawi, has over the course of history had an incredible impact on Arab culture. In Mahfouz s time, Islamic practices combined with their political relevance proved a source of both great power and woe in Middle Eastern countries. As alluded to in Zaabalawi, Mahfouz asserts the fact that not all Muslims attain religious fulfillment through this common tradition, and other methods outside the scope of Islam may be necessary in true spiritual understanding. My project emphasizes this spiritual tension by presenting a wineglass inscribed with Qur anic verses. By examining the purpose and structure of this wineglass, the truth of Mahfouz s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In accordance with these symbols of essence, the Qur anic script around the wineglass also proves applicable to Zaabalawi. It reads, phonetically: Iqra/ warabbuka al akramu, Allathee AAallama bialqalami. Or in English: Recite in the name of the Lord, who has taught by the pen. This is a passage from the 96th Surah, Al A laq in the Qur an. Such references to writings and penmanship highlight the importance of calligraphic beauty in such a society. Muslims believe that it is important to read the Qur an in Arabic. Their religion teaches that God intentionally presented the holy book to Arabs because their language holds a secret beauty and truth not found in others. Thus, if one is to complete the task of reading the Qur an, it must be done in Arabic or with a corresponding Arabic text. For this reason, I wrote in Arabic script around the glass because its translation would be incomplete otherwise. Furthermore, the first command of Allah is Recite! This is reflected in the Muslim appreciation for both the oral recitation and visual replication of the Qur an. Calligraphy, as a creative expression of the Qur an, has become a predominant art form in many Muslim countries. The calligrapher in Zaabalawi, in fact, has had much contact with true spirituality in his mastery of the Arabic script. Therefore, my act of inscribing Islamic verses would, in their culture, be considered a type of prayer and homage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Disadvantages Of Steam Irons If you love light and bright, you will be friends for a long time with the Panasonic NI E660SR. This Panasonic model is eye catching, not really because of dashing looks, but because of its unique shape and color combination. Like most Panasonic models, it has a U shaped design and a curved sole plate. This design allows for pressure to be concentrated at the center of the sole plate during ironing which allows easier movement of the iron and less tugging. The U shaped design allows steam to be evenly distributed around the sole plate for efficiency in ironing. As for color, the Panasonic NI E660SR comes in dazzling white with a splash of magenta . The handle is just basic plastic, there is nothing fancy. It does not have a comfort grip like the Black and Decker 2030 or the thumb rest and ergonomic controls of the Rowenta DW2070. It is still manageable though perhaps because it a light iron. It is possibly one of the lightest steam irons you will come across. The power that BPA markets comes primarily from 31 Federal hydroelectric projects (known collectively as the Federal Columbia River Power System, or FCRPS), and one non federal nuclear plant. BPA is a co manager of the Federal hydroelectric projects, but it does not own or operate them. Such responsibilities belong to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau). The two texts share a similarity in that both protagonists deal with challenges, uncertainties and insecurities. However, these topics vary in such ways that the stories contrast greatly and potentially appeal to different audiences. Gordie s friends are not as intelligent as him, and in turn he is very reserved as a way of not expressing his intellect. To contrast, Josie has no issues expressing her intellect. She is quite happy to tell people when they are in the wrong, and has no concerns with being brutally honest. This is potentially in lieu of her upbringing and Italian heritage. However, Josie is very insecure about her heritage. Throughout the novel she refers to herself as an illegitimate Italian and is insecure about the expectations that she has to live up to. Josie is constantly anxious about the Italian community and how much they will talk, talk, talk if she is not normal enough . There are times she falls to her insecurity and gives into peer pressure such as wagging the school walkathon, but her insecurities disappear as she learns from her mistakes and realises that following rules is easier. • 31. Be A Woman Programmer In the essay How to Be a Woman Programmer by Ellen Ullman, published by The New York Times, the author addresses the multiple ways in which gender prejudice is alive and in the computer science industry today. While women still face discrimination, the inequality is more apparent than ever in the workplace. A point Ullman makes is that women in the computer science industry must prove themselves further than their credentials. Ellen Ullman says But no matter how strong the social structure, there is always that cheek slapped moment when you are alone with the anti women prejudice: the joke, the leer, the disregard, the invisibility the inescapable fact that the moment you walk through the door you are seen as lesser, no matter your credentials (Ullman, 2013), meaning that, even though the woman is more than qualified, she must still prove herself even when nobody is watching. Ellen Ullman writes about an account she had with a former employer. She says about the encounter I had a boss who said flatly, I hate to hire all you girls, but you re too damned smart. By all he meant three but, at the time, it was rare to find even one woman in a well placed technical position. (Ullman, 2013) According to Rich and Walker Second wave feminism, beginning in the mid 1960s, tended to focus on the under representation of women in the workplace. • 34. Hurricane Katrina Case Study 1. Did human activity contribute to the severity of the storm, or was it an entirely natural disaster? Support your answer with evidence and citations. The severity of Hurricane Katrina was impacted largely by the location of its landfall. The storm was well tracked by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The NOAA noted that the high pressure of the storm at landfall, the strength of the system and shallow waters offshore all were contributing factors to the severity of the storm. (Graumann, Houston, Lawrimore, Levinson, Lott, McCown, Stephens, Wuertz: 2005, pg 4). When the storm struck, however, it was found that those who were financially better off were able to evacuate easier, leaving those in lower income areas to remain amidst the devastation. Nearly a half million people were excluded from the cities, when FEMA camps were implemented as a means to reconstruct public housing. (Smith, 2006). The human activity leading up to the storm, including levees constructed on the shore as well as the NOAA announcement of a hurricane warning, had been intended to protect the residents of Louisiana and Mississippi. Unfortunately, efforts to prepare those who would be most devastated by the storm failed. The governmental response in the wake of the storm greatly worsened the devastation of the storm. What is called glory seeking was the government s way of encouraging the private sector to get involved with disaster relief. However, the Federal Emergency ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
