How Has Society Changed In Puritan Times
Almost everything about society has changed since the time of the Puritans, and many of the changes
have happened within the last hundred years. Many of society s rules were constructed during the
Puritan times to properly establish a governing body and it is important to examine how these
concepts of society have changed and the importance of establishing them in the first place. Looking
through the lenses of three different perspectives, over 300 years, it is easy to tell which of society s
rules have changed the most. To do this, we must look at society through the eyes of a Puritan, my
grandmother and myself. Born in the 1940s and raised in Griswold, Iowa, my grandmother provided
insight to how society was during her time in primary and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Puritans lived just before the slave trade took off. Minorities had no rights in early America and
were not even considered humans. When my grandmother was in grade school, the Jim Crow laws
were still in place, however, she never experienced strong segregation because she did not live in the
deep South, where it was most prevalent. However, she tells of her friend, who lived in Texas during
the same time. In Texas, the schools were separated into black schools, white schools and Hispanic
schools. The idea of separate but equal was still in full swing, however logically, there is no possibility
of those three schools begin anywhere close to equal. Now, society has improved very much in the
acceptance aspect of civil rights, but America is nowhere near

Light Is A Form Of Energy And Composed Of Different...
Light is a form of energy and composed of different wavelengths. When the light exposed to an object,
the light could be reflected at the surface of the object (specular or diffuse), and it could be absorbed
or scattered within the object, or it could refract or totally transmitted through the object44, 45. The
wavelengths (colors) that are reflected, refracted or transmitted are perceived by receptor cells (i.e.
rods and cones) in the eye and recognized by the brain as a specific color. The wavelengths of visible
light range from approximately 400 to 700 nm45, 46. The wavelengths that are transmitted, refracted
or reflected create the color that is perceived and till about the translucency level of the material. If all
light is transmitted, the material will appear completely transparent. If all light is absorbed, the
material will appear completely opaque, and the color black is perceived. However, if some of the
wavelengths of visible light are absorbed and others reflected, refracted, or transmitted, the color that
is perceived corresponds to the wavelengths that are reflected, refracted, or transmitted, and the level
of translucency is depend on the amount of the light that transmitted through the material9, 44 46.
Moreover, the reflection of the light depends on the surface texture of the restoration. Thus, a smooth
surface increases the specular reflectance, in which the angulation of light reflection is equal to the
angle of the light source. This reveals more of

Pros And Cons Of A Dystopian Society
Many of us focus on trying to see the positive side of things, but the truth is that sometimes we need to
open our eyes, and notice the negative activities surrounding our world. Once we comprehend what is
negatively affecting our world, then we should find a way to fix it, and shape the world. Finally, after
we have done all of that, then maybe we can have a better world, but having a utopian society just
seems way out of our reach. A dystopian society, just like the one in the novel divergent, definetely is
different from our modern day society, but our society dosen t neceseraly stay behind On the novel
divergent, the society seems out of control, it feels like it is a place where you can t be feeling safe for

Analyzing Invictus
Analyzing Invictus: Theme Invictus, meaning unconquerable or undefeated in Latin, is a poem by
William Ernest Henley. The poem was written while Henley was in the hospital being treated for
tuberculosis of the bone, also known as Pott s disease. He had the disease since he was very young,
and his foot had to be amputated shortly before he wrote the poem. This poem is about courage in the
face of death, and holding on to one s own dignity despite the indignities life throws at us. In the first
stanza, Henley refers to the night that covers me, black as the pit from pole to pole. This night is a
metaphor for the everyday hardships and metaphor mankind faces. The next line, the pit from pole to
pole is a basic way of comparing the darkness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The place of wrath and tears of which Henley writes is the world we live in, the place where we are
the prey of circumstance and the prisoners of chance. Beyond it, however, there is more to life than
our everyday hardships. In line 10, horror of the shade is the unknown that is across the threshold of
life and death that may hold more hardships for the soul yet. In line 11, the menace of the year, of
course, is the expiration of time, the end of which would mark the beginning of the journey to the
shade beyond. To this, Henley holds defiantly that this imminent end finds, and shall find him
unafraid. This disregard for fear is a declaration of acceptance of all that will come at the expiration of

Modernism and Art
Modernism Typified Tradition Rejection Modernism is typified by rejection of tradition. Modernism is
a present state undertaking that comes with subsequent changes brought by innovation and change of
approaches in production and thought. Traditions as the past lifestyle and activity cannot be at the
stand with new and modern approaches of relaying similar activities and solutions. The challenges
brought by the environment have changed urgency of approach and perception of ideas in the world.
Change of ideas and approaches touch on every sector of human and animal life in the world. For
instance, modernism is characterized by abandonment of the old and outdated approaches of activity
and embracing new ideas backed by innovation and modern thought. Therefore, modernism is a
gradual adoption of the new ideas and approaches of solving the immediate and long time problems
while rejecting the old traditional ways (Harrison Wood, 2003). Definition of modernism Modernism
is referred as ways of exemplifying the modern thought, practice, and character. Modernism is a
movement that transcends from the old and traditional approaches of doing things in the universe. The
old cultures and believes among people have undergone gradual change over time. New approaches
and practices are being embraced by the human society without much consideration of the differences
brought by such changes. With time, it is pleasant to realize that the old practices and character have

Disneyland Motivation Statement
The reason why I am interested in developing a career with Hong Kong Disneyland is that Disneyland
is one of the famous theme park in the world. I believe working in Disneyland can broaden my
horizon and expand my social network. Most importantly, Hong Kong Disneyland has the passion to
become the best theme park. As a newspaper reports, Hong Kong Disneyland will launch an
expansion plan, including building new theme areas and new amusement facilities for Marvel Super
heroes. With this new theme areas and new amusement facilities, I believe Hong Kong Disneyland
will obtain great support in Chinese market. Also, I think Hong Kong Disneyland will become more
attractive and famous in the future since the Disneyland company has owned the 21st century fox. By
owning the 21st century fox, Disneyland company has the copyright of many new characters, which
makes Hong Kong Disneyland able to build more theme areas, such as deadpool s theme area, alien s
theme area, or x men s theme area. With the copyright of the new characters, I believe Hong Kong
Disneyland has a broad development space in the future. Therefore, I want to join Hong Kong
Disneyland.

Digital Television Conversion Essay example
Digital Television Conversion If you are not connected to cable TV or have a non digital television, be
prepared to either throw it out or convert it into a fish tank. With the increase in technology, the
television medium is becoming a more advanced system and is incorporating new standards for their
networks and customers. Digital cable is more popular than ever and is being used to launch new
capabilities in a couple of years. On February 17th, 2009 all over the air television stations are
converting to a digital signal. This means televisions that are analog and only receive over the air
broadcasts will become useless. The reason for this change is so that the analog spectrum may be freed
up for broadband and other emergency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The converters will be offered at an estimated price of $50.00, but Senator John Ensign believes that
we can have some kind of a program, though [he s] not sure what it will look like, for those low
income people who say they need a subsidy (http://www.news.com). This will help relieve some of the
money constraints most citizens are concerned about when faced with this radical change in
technology. They do not want to pay more in order to receive their television shows believing it is
unfair to them since they already pay a high amount. They are also concerned because since it is a
government issued change, they do not believe it is fair to charge the public for something they have
no control over.
Although many people will have to either buy a new set or buy a digital box, not all televisions will
require a converter. Many companies are saying that Cable customers should see no disruption in
service... if their technicians are permitted to use a method called down conversion
(http://www.news.com). In this process, the companies rewire the signal making the conversion occur
along the cable wires instead of in each individual home. This will relieve tension on the consumer s
end and enable the cable companies to keep their customers happy.
The deadline for this conversion to digital technology has been pushed back multiple times due to
scheduliing inabilities, concerns about the change and technological

The Role Of Islam In Turkey
Islam has been a dominant force throughout Turkish history. During the Ottoman Empire, Islam ruled
every part of the theocratic state, but after the demise of the empire, Turkey s rulers led the country
away from political Islam. The modern Turkish state has a strictly secular government, and Islam has
been relegated to the personal sphere. Although Turkey has experienced a rise in fundamentalism in
the past twenty years, the separation of church and state has remained relatively intact. Even with this
increase of fundamentalist Islam, the wide majority of Muslims in Turkey are moderate and tolerant.
They have adapted to modern life and value Islam for its moral and spiritual messages. Islam is a

They also allowed non Muslims to be self governing groups known as millets (?nations?).? The
Armenians, Greek Orthodox, and Jews were all allowed to have their own religious leaders and follow

The Pseudo Effect Of Synthetic Cannabinoid
The Pseudo Effect of Synthetic Cannabinoid
As of November of 2016, 26 out of 50 states in the U.S. have legalized cannabis for either medical or
recreational use. Many of the remaining states have decriminalized the possession of small quantities
and others are on the ballot to legalize the plant. Most would agree that the legalization of cannabis
alone is one of the most controversial topics in the recent years. However, there is a newer, better and
more sought after product in the market. Synthetic cannabinoid has multiple street names such as K2
and Spice . The line of product is now in popular demand due to its similar effect, convenience and
price compared to the raw cannabis bud. However, this synthetic cannabinoid has caused a high
number of patients to visit the emergency room as well as reports to local poison control centers, and
must be further examined to fully understand its short term as well as long term effects.
There are several species of cannabis. The two that are most common are Cannabis sativa and
Cannabis indica. These two species vary in appearance as well as effects, and through crossbreeding,
unlimited strain varieties are created. For an infrequent user, smoking any strain of cannabis may feel
the same. However, when comparing these two species, the difference is immense. Cannabis indica
plants are short, have wider leaves and give users the feeling of calmness and relaxation. On the
contrary, Cannabis sativa plants are tall, have

Personal Identity In The Movie Finding Forrester
Identity is what defines a person, their personality, interests, and their ideals. For some people, it s
easy to show off their personality, but for others, and can be hard. Some people see it as a way for
people to criticize them based on who they are. In the movie, Finding Forrester, William Forrester is a
well known author for his popular book, yet he hides away in his apartment because he doesn t want
to be judged based on his work. This leads to struggles that William deals with all because he wants to
keep his identity hidden. A young boy named Jamal Wallace has a similar issue. He is academically
gifted, yet he doesn t show it off because he doesn t want to stick out from his friends. The two
eventually meet, become friends, and solve their issues together. Jamal helps William escape his
apartment, while William gives Jamal tips on what makes a good writer. Finding Forrester gives a
good lesson in being true to oneself and expressing personality. If someone is too self conscious about
their personality, it can be hard to keep their identity hidden, especially in uncomforting situations.
Some people feel more comfortable about who they are with certain people. In Finding Forrester,
there are a lot of instances that show how people feel safer talking about who they are with friends, or
family. Early on in the story, William and Jamal discover a bond between each other and soon become
good friends. This friendship that William and Jamal share created a trust between the

O Neill s Non Fiction Piece, The Firecracker Boys
O Neill s non fiction piece, The Firecracker Boys, provides an in depth depiction of the morality and
ecological problems behind the peaceful use of nuclear bombs . Unmasking true intentions, O Neill
describes the Atomic Energy Commission s (AEC) push to continue nuclear bomb testing, regardless
of the global moratorium or the resulting implications it would have on national relations with the
Soviets. O Neill provides a perspective that sees through all of the misconstrued data and influential
power of the AEC, showing clear drivers behind the backing of these destructive practices. As a
whole, The Firecracker Boys addresses both the environmental and social injustices that the AEC and
its proponents wholeheartedly represented. On October 31, 1958, a global moratorium on all nuclear
bomb testing was put into effect after the scientific and public community became increasingly aware
of the negative effects that the radioactive fallout was having on both the ecological and social
communities. Strontium 90, a toxic chemical found in this fallout was being taken up as calcium by
the living organisms in the radioactive zones. According to O Neill, A single teaspoon of it, if
distributed evenly among all the people on earth, would kill every one of them within a few years (O
Neill, 51). Once this chemical is taken up by living organisms, it enters the immensely interconnected
food chain. Specifically in Alaska, the radioactive fallout found its way into the native

Essay on The Price of Diamonds Is too High
The Price of Diamonds Is Too High
For centuries the diamond has fascinated man for its alluring sparkle and physical hardness. Formed
about three billion years ago, the diamond may very well be the oldest and most precious item any
person can own. The internationally accepted notion that this commodity is one of the most
treasurable commodity of them all has led to the public being prepared to pay the prices that are set by
a group of companies in an agreement known as a cartel. This essay will evaluate the diamond market
on a microeconomic level and discuss how the diamond cartel came about, what has allowed it to
operate for decades, as well as how it determines the price of diamonds. In addition, this essay will, by

In the same light, if the price varied vastly between companies, people would be able to purchase from
the company that charges less, resulting in people losing their appreciation of the product. A threat to
the company came about in the 1950s when diamonds were discovered in Siberia, and although these
diamonds were of a somewhat inferior quality to the ones sold the company De Beers, these cheaper
diamonds would lead to a decrease in the quantity of De Beers diamonds demanded. Therefore, De
Beers bought up almost every diamond from Siberia, meaning that it owned the vast majority of the
diamonds of the world. Price fixing and output restriction were the next step to ensure that diamonds
do not lose their value to the world.
The general law of demand states that the higher the price of a good, the lower the demand. However,
the cartel introduced an incentive so that regardless of how high up they decide to push the price of
diamonds, there would still be a great demand for them. They developed the marketing strategy of
making diamonds synonymous with the idea of love and romance, an idea that is strongly valued by
cultures across the globe. As a result, even to present day times, diamonds are considered the ultimate
token of love, and any of the other gems of the

The Foundations Of The Canons
The Foundations of the Canons John 14: 26 states but the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father
will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said
to you (). This verse is an explanation from Christ about the role of the Holy Spirit in teaching and
recalling events that took place during his time on earth. It is through the witness of the Spirit that man
can determine the wheat from the chaff. () The early church had the writing of the Old Testament but
did not have a formal set of canonized books regarding the Messiah to draw their inspiration from.
Though they had letters from Apostles there were many heretical writings that were circulating
throughout the lands that were teaching doctrine different from those who knew Christ personally.
Josephus stated that no one had been bold enough to add, take away, or change the wording in the Old
Testament scripture (), this was what the Church was looking for in forming a canon that related to the
teaching of Christ; a type of written text that would be foundational therefore no one would want to
take away or add to it. The early church was using the four Gospels and the letters of many of the
Apostles in their church teachings. The churches focused on the importance of the authors being in a
first hand relationship or direct correlation to a disciple such as Mark was to Peter and Luke was to
Paul (). The Apostles took some time to write down their experiences because

Symptoms And Treatment Of Parkinson s Disease
Your 35 year old spouse has been diagnosed with Parkinson s Disease . These words hit home when
dealing with a spouse. Question s start to fly with what Parkinson s disease really entails. Like any
other disease, each case is different from the next, but it all comes down to a gradual decrease in the
range of muscle movement. When diagnosed, patients with PD have already lost and are still loosing
nerve cells that produce dopamine and since dopamine helps control the movement of muscles it
hinders the ability to regulate more and more movement over time. Parkinson s disease is not just a

The head to toe physical assessment is to be performed in less than 10 minutes using a stethescope,
pen light, your hands, and observational skills. It comprises of four different techniques: IPPA
inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation. This sequence, in apparent order, is used for al
systems except for the abdominal assessment, which requires auscultation before palpation and
percussion. Inspection is visually examining the person, focusing on one area of the body at a time.
Palpation is using touch, feeling for texture, size, consistency, and location of body parts. Auscultation
is listening for sounds within the body, mainly listening the lungs, heart, as well as the abdomen with
the use of a stethoscope. Percussion is tapping an area of the body with the fingers and is usually a
special assessment skill that the RN or physician uses, not a practical student nurse.
The nurse must initially evaluate the patient s charts for any bacterial precautions and fall risks. As the
nurse walks into the patient s room, the nurse begins by making sure the environment is clean and

The nurse is then to greet the patient, introducing self, then let them know exactly what you came to

The Importance Of Traveling
You worked really hard to get your miles and points in the bank. Don t let that potential vacation
currency go to waste. Here are some helpful tips to keep your miles from expiring.
Below the useful tips is a table with the major airline and hotel expiration deadlines.
Know The Expiration Dates
Each frequent flyer program has slightly different rules for when their miles expire. For some
international airlines, it can be up to 3 years. For most programs in the US, accounts expire after 18
months of inactivity.
This means that if you let your miles account sit for 18 months, and neither earn nor redeem a mile,
you will lose them all. And this seems to take people by surprise pretty frequently. Points Banking

But it makes sense to link your cards to a dining program, like Rewards Network. It s always a nice
surprise to get an email that you ve earned miles after eating at a random cafe in a town you ve never

Move points around
For the most part, you can t transfer points between airlines. You can also transfer points from Bank
Rewards credit cards to airlines.
If you have credit card points through American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate
Rewards, or Citi ThankYou cards, you can transfer those points to selected airline partners. Members
of the Starwood Preferred Guest program can transfer points to over a dozen different airlines. That s
the benefit of a flexible and transferable points programs.
In most cases you ll need to transfer a minimum of 1,000 points. Although Starwood Preferred Guests
Platinum members can transfer as little as one point to an airline program.
Some airlines also allow you to donate a handful of miles to charity, which can be a good option in a
pinch. You can also move miles between one person s account to another.
Keep in mind, some airlines charge a transfer fee this. Not the best option.

Pass The Opium, Please Essay
Religion is said to be the opiate of the masses, and it is definitely a point of interest in George Orwell
s famous novel Animal Farm. In it, Orwell pointedly attacks religion in general and Christianity in
particular through the use of a well placed symbolic bird by the name of Moses. Orwell s stance is
rather apparent as Moses darts about the farm scene conveying the duality of Christianity quite
superbly.
At the first mention of the raven Moses, one immediately gets the impression that he stands for
something quite larger than just a simple bird that lives on the Manor Farm. Firstly his name, Moses,
is an obvious biblical reference conveying the idea that he may stand for religion or Christianity. It is
not a subtle point that Orwell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his reference to Sugercandy Mountain there is an obvious correlation to the kingdom of heaven in
traditional Christian belief. This reinforces the idea in the reader s mind that Moses is most definitely
standing for Christianity in this story. But so far Orwell has not made any criticisms against
Christianity or religion, he has merely set up the character. The first time we get the idea that Orwell
may be viewing Moses with a critical eye is when he describes the bird as being lazy and unwilling to
do any. All the bird is apparently good for is to lie around all day and warm up to Mr. Jones, all the
while getting special treats and even getting to venture inside the farm house. This is a very deliberate
shot against the Christian religion. Orwell is painting a very critical portrait of Christianity as a tired
and pathetic institution that is no longer living up to the ideals it once so vehemently believed in. But
of course this institution, or Moses, still talks grandly about the kingdom of Sugercandy Mountain and
how all good Russians and animals will go there when they die to live an existence of eternal bliss.
This part of Moses s involvement is basically telling the acutely aware reader a very pointed lesson:
that not all that shines is sure to be gold (or God in this case). The last mention of Moses at his initial
involvement leaves quite an interesting taste

An Analysis Of Lies In Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman
Living in Lies
Everyone can relate to the desire to embellish their own life. Whether it be from the hopes of a better
income or to a higher social status, most all people have felt they fell short in one way or another and
would love to pretend to have the success they ve hoped for. In Arthur Miller s a play, The Death of a
Salesman, Miller eloquently depicts the struggle of living up to one s expectations through his ability
to construct dynamic characters. Willy Lohman, the protagonist in Miller s play, is struggling with
dementia as he is aging. He is also grappling with the realization that nothing in his life has been what
he expected it to be. He lived his life as a salesman, married ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Willy felt that connections and personality were the keys to a fruitful life. Biff was a popular child
throughout school but often slacked off in his classes. He had never really figured out what he wanted
out of life. Happy appeared to be successful with a job in sales like his father but he had to wait for
another man s death to occur before he could ever rise in the company. The way he would get there
was not something that he was enthusiastic about. Both of the sons were dealing with the ability to
find happiness within life themselves. Life can happen so quickly that were are often left wondering
what caused us to wind up where we are. Willy was often lost in his mind with this. Arthur Miller taps
into the human condition and exposes the weakness we have. We are often making plans and building
futures but as we are doing so, we sometimes become unaware that life is happening as we are making
the future goals. Miller was able to produce a cast of characters that interacted in a way that further

The two form a duopoly with market leadership in the sector largely rotating between these two
corporate giants depending on the market dynamics.
Commercial airlines and other air transport operators form the bulk of the customers. Governments are
also important customers. The government involvement in the sector extends to investing, supporting
(Aboulafia, Richard, 2000; O Neal, Michael, 1990) and regulating. Any problems in the industry have
implications that go well beyond the confines of the affected companies. Governments therefore
subsidize and invest in aircraft manufacturing and research and development. This also serves to
protect the highly skilled jobs in this sector and ensures that the respective countries remain
technologically competitive (Wall, R. Sparaco, P, 2007).
Big companies play an important role in the economics of the countries they operate in. They
influence the conditions in the industries and directly impact employment rate in the countries where
the manufacturing takes place. EADS and Boeing are the leading competitors in the aircraft
manufacturing industry and demonstrate the high level of political interest in this sector and the way
governments try to influence the business decisions made by such corporations (Wall, Robert Jens,
Flottau 2007; Barrie, Douglas 2007).

Hyperbole In The Things They Carried
Society s perception on war is often clouded by popular media. Action packed movies with fictional
war heroes, and video games set in past wars, are examples of such hyperbole. It is outlets like these
that raise society s expectations of soldiers into unrealistic ideas. While it may seem as black and
white as killing the bad guy, majority of the population does not consider the long term effects war
may have on soldiers. Most movies portray soldiers as emotionless killing machines and leave out the
lifelong psychological effects war can have on a person. Tim O Brien s book The Things They Carried

Essay On Polycystic Kidney Disease
The polycystic kidney disease is a genetic disease: the kidney tissue is replaced by various cysts. In
nephrology it is usual to distinguish between the two forms of the disease, one of them, in particular,
affects the adult, while the other is more typical of the newborn. The disease impairs the functioning
of the kidneys. The causes of these problems are to be sought in a genetic mutation. The symptoms
differ according to the stage of disease: it starts from abdominal pain, to reach even to infections that
affect the kidneys and the urinary tract.
Causes:
In most cases, kidney cysts are isolated and have no clinical significance. In polycystic kidney disease

Sometimes in old age you have to resort to dialysis. Against abdominal pain and lower back you can

Hess and Zimmermann mention that conventional categories have blurred and there s demands for
new political and aesthetic responses in transnational cinema (John Hess 2006). These transnational
films I believe would be growing significantly in the film industry as a part of film history.
As seen in most third transnational films from Asia countries, popular cultural products criss cross
cultural borders everyday therefore these cultures remain circulating in transnational cinema (Aquilia
2006). The power of transnational cinema could not be ignored as global screen reflects a
transnational cultural exchange (Aquilia 2006). My clip shows that those sections of films we studied
consisting crossover boundaries of actors and actresses, overseas settings and different cultures
portrayed. Athique also argues that non Indians and people with little Indian history background found
enjoyment in the mixture of Bombay films (Athique 2008). Thus, transnational cinema in both ways
depicted the cultural identity audiences can relate to, as well as transnational culture exchange among
the globe.
Transnational cinema is a developing concept. It changes alongside the film industry. The ever
increasing of Diasporas and ever developing cultural identity help shape transnational cinema.

Confucianism
What is the ideal person supposed to be or do? In any religious system, this is always the paramount
question. Confucianism itself is not a religion, per se, but a set of first principles of social organization
and behavior, so there are no larger otherworldly implications to the Confucian plan for humanity. For
Confucius, life consists of ethical principles: the central problem with humanity is anything which
exacerbates human tendencies towards social disharmony. The Confucian system is one in which
social order is paramount: Douglas Soccio defines Confucius not as a religious figure or philosopher
per se, but as the social sage (Soccio 33). Confucius offers no prescriptions about deities or the
afterlife, but instead gives rules of conduct in essence a manual of etiquette, which manages to raise
etiquette to the level of a Kantian moral imperative which results in the larger set of ethical precepts
that comprise the teachings of Confucius. For Confucius, the goal for every human being is to live in
greatest harmony within society, which means adhering to specifically defined social roles. In some
sense, Confucianism is not a religion but it places its most reverent attitudes towards the idea of
education Confucius himself is presented as no more than a teacher (of right behavior, of rules of
conduct, more than a teacher of moral inquiry) and good education is central to the Confucian concept
of good behavior and for its fairly circumscribed sense of any the larger

Why Is Noah s Ark Possible
Was Noah s Ark Possible?
In today s society, many children learn about the story of Noah s ark during their childhood. This story
often leads to a spark of imagination to children trying to imagine all of the animals to be on one
gigantic ark. What may seem like an incredible story in the light of a child s eyes may often lead to
questions on how it was possible as one gets older. This in turn leads to some of the possibilities of
what it would take if Noah s ark were to be possible.
The story of Noah s Ark began when God realized that the ancestors of Adam and Eve had slowly
began to become wicked as the generations grew and in to get rid of this, He would have to dispose of
humans (The Holy Bible New King James Version, 1982). However, there was one individual, ...

There was no way for Noah to precisely know what it would take for the boat to survive rough waves
or if it would be large enough to hold every species. Boats were made out of hollow logs, so there was
no one to turn towards to build an ark (Moore, 1983). If there were others that helped Noah build the
ark, they also would have needed a basic understanding of the requirements to build a boat. Also,
Noah would have needed to have known that wood would not be the best material to make the ark out
of because of the possibility of the wood to sag and rot within the time that he built it (Moore, 1983).
Steel, a much more preferred material, was used for boats this large of size, however steel was not
available during this time (Moore, 1983). Since these tools and materials were not available and the
ark needed some sturdiness, God told Noah to coat the entire ark with pitch, which was a common
practice during this time to seal things together (Moore,

  • 2. How Has Society Changed In Puritan Times Almost everything about society has changed since the time of the Puritans, and many of the changes have happened within the last hundred years. Many of society s rules were constructed during the Puritan times to properly establish a governing body and it is important to examine how these concepts of society have changed and the importance of establishing them in the first place. Looking through the lenses of three different perspectives, over 300 years, it is easy to tell which of society s rules have changed the most. To do this, we must look at society through the eyes of a Puritan, my grandmother and myself. Born in the 1940s and raised in Griswold, Iowa, my grandmother provided insight to how society was during her time in primary and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Puritans lived just before the slave trade took off. Minorities had no rights in early America and were not even considered humans. When my grandmother was in grade school, the Jim Crow laws were still in place, however, she never experienced strong segregation because she did not live in the deep South, where it was most prevalent. However, she tells of her friend, who lived in Texas during the same time. In Texas, the schools were separated into black schools, white schools and Hispanic schools. The idea of separate but equal was still in full swing, however logically, there is no possibility of those three schools begin anywhere close to equal. Now, society has improved very much in the acceptance aspect of civil rights, but America is nowhere near ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Light Is A Form Of Energy And Composed Of Different... Light is a form of energy and composed of different wavelengths. When the light exposed to an object, the light could be reflected at the surface of the object (specular or diffuse), and it could be absorbed or scattered within the object, or it could refract or totally transmitted through the object44, 45. The wavelengths (colors) that are reflected, refracted or transmitted are perceived by receptor cells (i.e. rods and cones) in the eye and recognized by the brain as a specific color. The wavelengths of visible light range from approximately 400 to 700 nm45, 46. The wavelengths that are transmitted, refracted or reflected create the color that is perceived and till about the translucency level of the material. If all light is transmitted, the material will appear completely transparent. If all light is absorbed, the material will appear completely opaque, and the color black is perceived. However, if some of the wavelengths of visible light are absorbed and others reflected, refracted, or transmitted, the color that is perceived corresponds to the wavelengths that are reflected, refracted, or transmitted, and the level of translucency is depend on the amount of the light that transmitted through the material9, 44 46. Moreover, the reflection of the light depends on the surface texture of the restoration. Thus, a smooth surface increases the specular reflectance, in which the angulation of light reflection is equal to the angle of the light source. This reveals more of ... In line 11, the menace of the year, of course, is the expiration of time, the end of which would mark the beginning of the journey to the shade beyond. Many of the remaining states have decriminalized the possession of small quantities and others are on the ballot to legalize the plant. Most would agree that the legalization of cannabis alone is one of the most controversial topics in the recent years. However, there is a newer, better and more sought after product in the market. Synthetic cannabinoid has multiple street names such as K2 and Spice . The line of product is now in popular demand due to its similar effect, convenience and price compared to the raw cannabis bud. O Neill s Non Fiction Piece, The Firecracker Boys O Neill s non fiction piece, The Firecracker Boys, provides an in depth depiction of the morality and ecological problems behind the peaceful use of nuclear bombs . Unmasking true intentions, O Neill describes the Atomic Energy Commission s (AEC) push to continue nuclear bomb testing, regardless of the global moratorium or the resulting implications it would have on national relations with the Soviets. O Neill provides a perspective that sees through all of the misconstrued data and influential power of the AEC, showing clear drivers behind the backing of these destructive practices. As a whole, The Firecracker Boys addresses both the environmental and social injustices that the AEC and its proponents wholeheartedly represented. On October 31, 1958, a global moratorium on all nuclear bomb testing was put into effect after the scientific and public community became increasingly aware of the negative effects that the radioactive fallout was having on both the ecological and social communities. Strontium 90, a toxic chemical found in this fallout was being taken up as calcium by the living organisms in the radioactive zones. According to O Neill, A single teaspoon of it, if distributed evenly among all the people on earth, would kill every one of them within a few years (O Neill, 51). Therefore, De Beers bought up almost every diamond from Siberia, meaning that it owned the vast majority of the diamonds of the world. This verse is an explanation from Christ about the role of the Holy Spirit in teaching and recalling events that took place during his time on earth. It is through the witness of the Spirit that man can determine the wheat from the chaff. Though they had letters from Apostles there were many heretical writings that were circulating throughout the lands that were teaching doctrine different from those who knew Christ personally. Josephus stated that no one had been bold enough to add, take away, or change the wording in the Old Testament scripture (), this was what the Church was looking for in forming a canon that related to the teaching of Christ; a type of written text that would be foundational therefore no one would want to take away or add to it. In it, Orwell pointedly attacks religion in general and Christianity in particular through the use of a well placed symbolic bird by the name of Moses. Orwell s stance is rather apparent as Moses darts about the farm scene conveying the duality of Christianity quite superbly. At the first mention of the raven Moses, one immediately gets the impression that he stands for something quite larger than just a simple bird that lives on the Manor Farm. Firstly his name, Moses, is an obvious biblical reference conveying the idea that he may stand for religion or Christianity. It is not a subtle point that Orwell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his reference to Sugercandy Mountain there is an obvious correlation to the kingdom of heaven in traditional Christian belief. This reinforces the idea in the reader s mind that Moses is most definitely standing for Christianity in this story. But so far Orwell has not made any criticisms against Christianity or religion, he has merely set up the character. The first time we get the idea that Orwell may be viewing Moses with a critical eye is when he describes the bird as being lazy and unwilling to do any. All the bird is apparently good for is to lie around all day and warm up to Mr. Jones, all the while getting special treats and even getting to venture inside the farm house. This is a very deliberate shot against the Christian religion. Orwell is painting a very critical portrait of Christianity as a tired and pathetic institution that is no longer living up to the ideals it once so vehemently believed in. But of course this institution, or Moses, still talks grandly about the kingdom of Sugercandy Mountain and how all good Russians and animals will go there when they die to live an existence of eternal bliss. This part of Moses s involvement is basically telling the acutely aware reader a very pointed lesson: that not all that shines is sure to be gold (or God in this case). These transnational films I believe would be growing significantly in the film industry as a part of film history. As seen in most third transnational films from Asia countries, popular cultural products criss cross cultural borders everyday therefore these cultures remain circulating in transnational cinema (Aquilia 2006). The power of transnational cinema could not be ignored as global screen reflects a transnational cultural exchange (Aquilia 2006). My clip shows that those sections of films we studied consisting crossover boundaries of actors and actresses, overseas settings and different cultures portrayed. Athique also argues that non Indians and people with little Indian history background found enjoyment in the mixture of Bombay films (Athique 2008). • 38. Confucianism What is the ideal person supposed to be or do? In any religious system, this is always the paramount question. Confucianism itself is not a religion, per se, but a set of first principles of social organization and behavior, so there are no larger otherworldly implications to the Confucian plan for humanity. For Confucius, life consists of ethical principles: the central problem with humanity is anything which exacerbates human tendencies towards social disharmony. The Confucian system is one in which social order is paramount: Douglas Soccio defines Confucius not as a religious figure or philosopher per se, but as the social sage (Soccio 33). Confucius offers no prescriptions about deities or the afterlife, but instead gives rules of conduct in essence a manual of etiquette, which manages to raise etiquette to the level of a Kantian moral imperative which results in the larger set of ethical precepts that comprise the teachings of Confucius. For Confucius, the goal for every human being is to live in greatest harmony within society, which means adhering to specifically defined social roles. In some sense, Confucianism is not a religion but it places its most reverent attitudes towards the idea of education Confucius himself is presented as no more than a teacher (of right behavior, of rules of conduct, more than a teacher of moral inquiry) and good education is central to the Confucian concept of good behavior and for its fairly circumscribed sense of any the larger ... • 39. Why Is Noah s Ark Possible Was Noah s Ark Possible? In today s society, many children learn about the story of Noah s ark during their childhood. This story often leads to a spark of imagination to children trying to imagine all of the animals to be on one gigantic ark. What may seem like an incredible story in the light of a child s eyes may often lead to questions on how it was possible as one gets older. This in turn leads to some of the possibilities of what it would take if Noah s ark were to be possible. The story of Noah s Ark began when God realized that the ancestors of Adam and Eve had slowly began to become wicked as the generations grew and in to get rid of this, He would have to dispose of humans (The Holy Bible New King James Version, 1982). However, there was one individual, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was no way for Noah to precisely know what it would take for the boat to survive rough waves or if it would be large enough to hold every species. Boats were made out of hollow logs, so there was no one to turn towards to build an ark (Moore, 1983). If there were others that helped Noah build the ark, they also would have needed a basic understanding of the requirements to build a boat. Also, Noah would have needed to have known that wood would not be the best material to make the ark out of because of the possibility of the wood to sag and rot within the time that he built it (Moore, 1983). Steel, a much more preferred material, was used for boats this large of size, however steel was not available during this time (Moore, 1983). Since these tools and materials were not available and the ark needed some sturdiness, God told Noah to coat the entire ark with pitch, which was a common practice during this time to seal things together (Moore, ...
