The Sound Of Music
The choice by Stephanie S. Tolan to have the show put on by the main family in Surviving the
Applewhites be The Sound of Music is an important one. The musical is a lot like the book, both
having the key message of finding and chasing your dreams. In the beginning of The Sound of Music,
Captain Von Trapp is cold and distant, but thanks to the efforts of his children and Maria, he realizes
how important his family is and how much he had been mistreating them. He then rediscovers his
ability to sing before working together with them to escape Austria. This is very similar to the way
Jake s attitude is changed by the Applewhites disciplinary efforts (or lack thereof) before his talent for
singing is realized and he must work with them to put

Women In Politics
New Zealand is ranked 35th internationally for its proportion of women parliamentary representatives,
with 31 percent of parliamentary seats held by women after the 2014 election. In 1981, only 8 of 92
seats were held by women, with this number significantly increasing upon the introduction of a mixed
member proportion ( MMP ) electoral system to 35 of 120 in 1996. Despite this increase, the number
of women in electoral seats remains low (NZ Parliament, 2014) where the election of a candidate for a
given electorate is first past the post. In the decade since the introduction of MMP, women have
tended to be elected on party lists. The increased proportion of women members of parliament ( MPs )
is correlated to the introduction of MMP, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This patriarchal structure means that the voices of minority groups (particularly women) in parliament
are secondary to Cabinet s policy agenda. While the introduction of MMP in 1996 reduced the power
of Cabinet, it is nonetheless difficult for the limited number of women MPs to influence this
patriarchal power structure especially since bloc voting stifles dissenting political perspectives during
the legislative process. The role of liberalism and masculinity Why do these patriarchal structures
exist? Politics in the New Zealand liberal state are inherently masculine, where social systems are
based upon the neutral treatment of all people under the Lockean assumption that those people are
equal in the first place. In the expectation that men and women hold equal standing in society,
patriarchal oppression is built into the application of political and social systems. In New Zealand
politics, masculine traits are favoured under such a patriarchal structure. The liberal state favours
objectivity, neutrality, and detachment masculine traits, instead of subjectivity, attentiveness, and care.
Olsen (1991) argues that objectivity is a denial of the existence or potency of sex inequality that tacitly
constructs reality from the dominant point of view . Effectively, New Zealand politics are governed by

American Funding Of Nazi Eugenics
American Funding of Nazi Eugenics
Eugenics is a complex term that has been studied and discussed internationally and throughout the
eras. A basic definition of eugenics is the scientific study of race improvement. The definition is then
broken up into two different aspects, positive eugenics and negative eugenics. Positive eugenics is
defined as improving a race by focusing on ways to increasing the better population. Incentives are
given to those superior races or populations to have children and get married. On the other hand
negative eugenics is decreasing the chances of the inferior race or population from having children.
This type of negatives eugenics is trying to stop those who are determined on having inferior genes
from passing on their inferior traits that would corrupt the population as a whole. The whole study of
eugenics is based on the theory that the gene a person is born with determines their outcome in life.
Using this theory some scientists are given a way to justify categorizing groups of people into superior
or inferior classes based on race. The study of eugenics was discussed around the world having the
main powers being in Great Britain, Germany, and the United States.
Nazi Germany is one of the most notorious cases of eugenics being put into practice on a large scale.
Before reading The Nazi Connection: Eugenics, American Racism German National Socialism by
Stefan Kühl, I knew that Nazi s used eugenics to justify killing off Jews, handicap

Rise And Fire By Shawn Fury And Born To Run
As time continues to pass, people often earn countless achievements such as medals, trophies, or even
participation ribbons for their high attainment. While the objects may not seem important now, the
objects will still be a symbol of a pride later in life. The books Rise and Fire by Shawn Fury and Born
to Run by Christopher McDougall illustrate that through times of success, there are important objects
associated with achievements. In Rise and Fire, the newspaper article and the rim on the basketball
court are vital objects, and in Born to Run, the barefoot is an essential object through times of high
achievement. First, the newspaper article as an object plays a substantial role in the book Rise and Fire

Comparing The Culture of the Mongols versus the Pakistanis...
Comparing The Culture of the Mongols versus the Pakistanis In the following paper, I will be
comparing the five institutions between the Mongols and the Pakistanis, discussing the unique
qualities that distinguish these cultures from one another. These five institutions include topics such as
religion, economics, education, politics, and family. Religion The Mongols religious beliefs and
practices come into the category that is usually called Shamanism. I find that a shaman can be best
described as being a tribal witch doctor. Shamanism involves a solitary practitioner that uses the aids

Toleration is achieved through indifference, by a feeling that any religion might be right, and also by
the fact that nomadic society was accustomed to the practice of many religions. Today, one sixth of the
world and 95 percent of the people of Pakistan are Muslim. Most Muslims in Pakistan take religion
much more seriously than Americans or Europeans do. There are much fewer agnostics or freethinkers
in Pakistan than there are in the West. For most Pakistanis, religion is not so much a matter of
individual belief as it is a matter of revealed truth and a lifetime duty. A quarter of all Pakistanis pray
five times a day. Many more pray at least once a day. The times a day when a crier, or an amplified
taped recording of a crier, gives the azan, or prayer call, are just before dawn, after noon, an hour
before sunset, about an hour after sunset, and about two and a half hours after sunset. Before entering
a mosque (a Muslim temple) men take their sandals off at the entrance. (Women usually do not go to
mosques.) Then they wash their hands and feet at an outdoor basin before and imam (priest) leads
them on prayer. A rural imam is usually a poorly educated man who teaches children to read the Qur
an (religious book), delivers sermons on Fridays, deeps up the grounds of the mosque, and presides at
weddings and funerals, like his father and grandfather did before him. Villagers commonly call their
imam a mullah, but in cities

How Did The Colonists Respond To The Declaration Of...
Before the U.S. Colonists signed the Declaration of Independence they were upset with England for
not giving them enough power. After the French Indian War, taxation was a major issue with the stamp
act taxing paper, as well as the tea act, taxing tea. Colonists were opposed to these taxes and rebelled
with the Boston Tea Party. Many of these rebellions led to bloodshed as with the case of the Boston
Massacre. The colonists were not only upset about taxing and violence, but were also upset for not

would hide in trees and bushes and ambush the British troops, who were expecting more of a

better understanding of what was needed to defeat the British. Under the guidance of general George
Washington, the colonists performance in battle was terrible, however their performance began to

Character Analysis Of Mark Watney In The Martian
Mark Watney in the book, The Martian by Andy Weir stayed on Mars for over a year and a half. Alone
and hopeless, from the day he was stranded to the day he left, it was a never ending struggle to survive
taking a deep toll on him mentally and physically. Mark Watney s personality and attitude never
changed, he took the worse of situations and lightened them up, while still understanding fully of the
seriousness of them. Traumatizing events and life threatening circumstances never even phased
Watney, he kept the same positive attitude throughout the entirety of the novel resulting in him being a
static character and making little change throughout the book. Mark Watney was brought onto Ares 3
(the mission to Mars) mostly because of his charisma. When put under pressure and tough situations,
he deals with this by cracking jokes, Yes, of course duct tape works in a near vacuum. Duct tape works
anywhere. Duct tape is magic and should be worshipped. During high stress moments, Watney is
constantly making remarks like this quote. Being able to poke fun at a bad situation is Watney s way
of easing tension levels and making the best of bad situations. Having this charisma was crucial for
giving Watney hope to keep pushing on each day, which is why he never changed, having any other
personality would be counterproductive to his main goal of getting rescued. Being able to analysis

Path Of War Essay
The only time wherein the United States became a war theater was during the American Civil War in
the late 1800s. Today, Path of War makes it the location of another war, and it doesn t fail to deliver.
Although it would be horrible if cities like Chicago, San Francisco, and Nevada were to become war
torn battlefields, the game lets you take these cities for yourself, and use them as a slingshot to take
down the oppressive regime that has taken over the United States.
Path of War has a dystopian setting: it is set one year after a large scale cyber terrorist attack on
America, with the country now under a tyrannical administration. It does not provide anything chunky
or substantial in the story aspect. All you need to know is you re the main ... Show more content on

By doing so, you can also reach the end goal, Washington D.C., quicker and easier, especially if you
have to deal with droves of enemies that come your way.
Although the game is pretty promising, it does have its gripes. Since it s a freemium game, the
developer seems to be doing everything it can to make you buy and spend premium currency. For
example, the mundane task of upgrading a building takes three hours or more, and plus, you can t even
save time by upgrading multiple structures at the same time. We understand that Envision
Entertainment wants to maximize profits, but it wouldn t be surprising if numerous players quit after a
few hours.
Furthermore, the progression is slow and clunky and the premise of marching on to Washington is
barely achievable, thanks to its fuel system. Want to launch an attack? It costs a certain amount of
fuel. Want to inch closer to Washington? It costs five times the overall amount you generate per hour.
Overall, Path of War is a decent RTS game and offers a fresh perspective in the genre with its base
building and unique battle system. However, truly enjoying it may require you to constantly purchase
premium currency from time to time. Onward to

Chad is made up of over 140 different ethnic groups, whose diets are as diverse as their cultural
traditions. The Arabs of northern Chad who are nomadic or live in the capital of N Djamena eat
staples of dairy and meat, while groups in the agricultural south have a plant based diet. However,
there are certain national dishes that all Chadians share.
Grains
A thick grain porridge called boule is a common dish throughout Chad. The grain used in the north is
generally maize; in the south, millet is the primary grain consumed. Boule can also be made of
peanuts, cassava or sorghum, depending on which crop is grown locally. The porridge is rolled into a
ball and served with any number of different sauces, made of dried fish, meat or vegetables. Crops
such as potatoes, rice and sesame are more common in the agricultural south. A sweetened peanut and

into meals. When beef is used, it is chopped and made into a tomato sauce dish called nashif. For
special occasions, Southern Chadians prepare tan oul (long sauce) out of meat, dried fish or beans.
Due to their cost, meat and fish are often dried; they re preserved for later use, especially in the south.
Dairy and other Protein
Milk from cows and goats forms a staple of the diet of the nomads of Northern Chad. Clarified butters

Opening An Offshore Bank Account
10 Things You Should Know Before Opening An Offshore Bank Account
Opening an offshore account is not just for the super rich. There are plenty of legitimate, legal, honest
and good reasons why you should open an offshore bank account yourself. Before you open your
account, read this article about the ten things you should know before opening an offshore account.
Throughout this article, you will see the acronym FBAR used quite a bit. It is a Report of Foreign
Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR). You will need to file an FBAR when ...a U.S. person has a
financial interest in, or signature authority over, one or more foreign financial accounts with an
aggregate value greater than $10,000 at any time during the reporting period (calendar year). If a
report is required, certain records must also be kept. (IRS 4.26.16.1 (11 06 2015))
1 Foreign Account Inconsistencies Is A Big Red Flag
When you fill out your tax return and you tick the box that says you have foreign accounts, you are
telling the IRS that you have an FBAR filing obligation.
Amending tax returns to report your worldwide income is fine, but some people choose not to file
their delinquent FBARs. Not filing is probably a bad idea, especially since the government is coming
down hard on tax dodgers at the moment. If you have inconsistencies from one tax return to another,
or between your old FBARs and old tax returns, then it is going to make the IRS very suspicious.

Native American Natives
Native Americans Native Americans roamed the land and did as they pleased, almost ancient
technology. That was until white settlers came in and took away their land and buffalo. Whites forced
them to adapt to white culture and learn how to farm wheat, and go to school. Whites even put them
on indian reservations that had poor soil so their farming techniques were difficult.. Indians were
nomads, they chased their food and never stayed in one home for too long. They used older
technology like smoke signals. The finding of the buffalo was remarkable, they could kill the game
and use every single part of it. Indians would use the bladder as canteens and the tendons as strings for

They even tried to say that they were helping the Indians by making them downsize. They would say
that the annuities they gave me made up fro the smaller land. Whites did this with the Dawes Act an
act that allowed authorization of president to move Native Americans onto reservations. To make
matters worse, they then enforced Indians to basically become whites they could do this with
Assimilation. Assimilation is trying to get one to change or become like one s culture. Many settlers,
thought it was actually fair because they get 160 and so do the indians plus annuities yearly. White
settlers probably thought they got the short end of the deal because indians got land and money. They
thought they were helping the Indians with their farming and newer technology. That the killing of the
buffalo and Assimilation would help indians be better off. Native Americans were treated extremely
unfairly. They were thrown onto reservations, and we killed their buffalo. Some may it was justified,
but it wasn t. Imagine whenever people come over to your house uninvited you feel kinda like what
are you doing here? So just picture their situation of all misery, and just for gold and silver. We did
need them to move along with us or move out of the way, but the way we took the situation was
horrible. Whites were not justified to take the Indian s land and kill their buffalo we should have

Welty describes the first steps of reading as human, but inward...It is to me the voice of the story or
poem itself (Welty 11). Picking up from my knowledge of personification, I gained a new perspective
on how books play an impact on how one thinks when reading a piece, as it describes the voice of the
book as a human. Having said, this gave me the idea that books establish a personal connection
between itself and the reader. Following through with the next chapter, Welty recognizes the value of
the summer trips she experienced with her family. She makes an interesting analogy between her trips
and reading by calling them stories. Not only in form, but in their taking on direction, movement,
development, change...each trip made its particular revelation, though I could not have found words
for it (68). Connecting this to the title of chapter two, Learning to See when reading requires looking
closely at the small details and soaking it in, in a way that one can look back upon it later. Once one
starts to carefully listen and look at the fluidity and rich ingredients a book has, he/she can find their
own voice, which leads into the next chapter. Reading spurs imagination which then allows one to
explore their own inner being. Welty best describes her encounter of this by explaining my
imagination takes its strength and guides its direction from what I see and hear and

Personal Statement On Family Assessment
On November 2, 2016 I drove to Wittier, CA to meet the Galagar family for the third and final family
assessment. To prepare, I utilized Wright and Leahey (2013) Nurses and Families: A guide to Family
Assessment and Interventions textbook in order to guide me in further assessing this family s dynamic
and especially their behavior towards each other as well as guide me in developing a strategy to
conclude my Family Assessment project. It is important to state that assessment of this family
dynamic was taken into account at each of the three meetings, however more so during this meeting

Native American Spirituality And Native Americans
For Native Americans, protecting their sacred ways was and is a matter of survival, but it is also a
matter of respect for the power that is involved. Across the United States, there are more than 558

Given the wide ranging diversity of this population consisting of 2.3 million people, it is essential to

different tribal traditions represented by these hundreds of Indian nations. Being particularly interested

world are viewed as being connected to one another, ideally in balance. The physical world, natural

all of life s endeavors (Taylor, 2005). While the Lakota did not and do not live in a world of total
ecological harmony with all beings, they seek balance in the world through reciprocity, giving and
receiving. For instance, animals were hunted but the hunter would ask permission from the animal s
spirit. History shows that Native American spirituality included many ceremonies and rituals that were
practiced before and after hunting expeditions. It was thought that their spirituality in this way would
ensure future success in hunting. The Lakota held and continue to hold that all is sacred (wakan),
although certain objects, activities, and even people are instilled with more of this sacredness than
others (Taylor, 2005). This sacrality can also be sought and obtained by such means as fasting,
praying, self sacrifice, and generosity. Therefore, all of

what market is viable and what market is not. Industry research shows that 75% of new product

History Term Paper
Both St. Augustine s Confessions and Confucius s Analects are influential teachings that have a vast
influence on people around the world in the ancient time and currently. Both doctrines discuss ethical
values of society back during the time they were written and leads us to find some similarities between
the two. There are substantial distinctions between Confucius and St. Augustine s experiences and
beliefs since they are living in different environments and time periods. Their insightful differences
are the influences that contributed to mold the distinct philosophies and traditions between the West
and the East today. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Augustine financial support for his education, he did not care how Augustine s character would
advance through his education. St. Augustine s dad paid more than a richer man would pay for their
son s education because he wanted to provide Augustine with the proper education. (Confessions, II,
5). Unlike the attitude toward his father, St. Augustine showed a great deal of respect to his mother,
Monica, since she was a practicing Christian (II,60). In spite of this, Augustine criticized his mother
for holding him back from his sexual desire (II,8). But his father arranged his marriage and
encouraged him to have children (II,6). Unlike Confucius s teachings of remaining reverent to your
parent, Augustine openly criticized his family s wrong doings because God was his heart and only
truth (II,5).
Another difference between Analects and Confessi0ons is the different believes about one s self and
the truth. Confucius believed that the Truth of life, ren, was the virtue and benevolence of human;
while St. Augustine believed that God is the Truth, the heart of goodness (Confessions, II,5). In the
teachings of Confucius, there was no specific God, instead, Confucius focuses on the men himself and
as his character develops within the society, as he believed it is Man who capable of broadening the
Way (Analects, XV, 29). Confucius believed in the importance of rites and ceremonies. A gentleman

Health Care in the United States
Health Care in the United States The federal government should provide health care for all citizens
who cannot afford their own. The issue of health care in the United States has been discussed for
many decades and a solution that is suitable for everyone has not yet been established. There are
millions of Americans who are not covered by insurance companies and also those who do not have
the appropriate coverage they need. These people cannot afford to pay for it on their own, and medical
expenses are the main financial problems within their families. Millions of Americans are not covered
by health insurance plans, many cannot afford to purchase health insurance, and many employers do
not offer such coverage due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Results show from one study that
In 1999, U.S. private insurance companies retained $46.9 billion of
$401.2 billion collected in premiums. Their average overhead expenditures of 11.7% greatly exceeded
Medicare at 3.6% and Medicaid at
6.8%. Overall, private and public insurance overhead was 5.9% of the total healthcare expenses in the
United States or $259 per capita.
Comparatively, the overhead cost of Canadian s provincial insurance plans was $311 million or 1.3%
of the $23.5 billion spent for hospital and physician care and the overall insurance overhead was 1.9%
of the
Canadian healthcare spending or $47 per capita . (Rashford, 2007)
By acquiring a health care system that covers all citizens with basic care America would be saving
money in every aspect. The United States spends at least 40% more per capital on health care than any
other industrialized country with universal health care. The United States is among the wealthiest and
most prosperous nations in the world, yet its government is unable, unwilling, or incapable of
providing adequate, basic health care to all its citizens. (Rashford, 2007) The amount of money that
the Health care reform would save would be enough money to pay for the health care as shown in a

Comparing Brookchin s Social Ecology And Biocentric Approach
Deep ecology is used to describe different environmental philosophies. Deep ecology is similar to
biocentric because it also believes that the flourishing of human and nonhuman life on earth has
intrinsic value. In addition, deep ecology sees that the diversity of life forms have value also. Deep
ecology and biocentric is very similar. Brookchin s Social Ecology The biocentric view believes that
humans are not superior to animals. That they are on the same hierarchy level and that we are all a part
of this integrative system. The biocentric view also believes that nature wasn t just intended to be
consumed by individuals. Brookchin s social ecology is concerned with hierarchy. Brookchin looks at
groups of people such as men over women and young over old or mind over body. He looks at the
belief that one holds power over the other in society. Since he thinks that eventually most hierarchy
societies will dominate so he want to get rid of all social hierarchies. Brookchin relates to biocentrism
by the way that he views each member of society has value. He also believes that humans aren t the
ones that are ruining the environment but the social hierarchies. However, biocentrism is nature based

Once the whole world can adopt this attitude, treating living and nonliving things as if it possesses this
immense amount of worth, treating them become easier. In the video, Food Inc. The chickens were

used as a tool for humans. If we adopt this way of thinking, we will think twice about our actions.
There will be many obstacles. However, slowly change can be made. For example, the sale of organic
food is one of the fastest growing sectors of the food industry. This demonstrates that humans are

Minimum Wage Should Be Raised For A Better Standard Of Living
Vamsi Sanagala
Hannah Manshel
Dec 15 2014
English 1
Minimum Wage Almost 3.3 out of 76 million workers in the US receive minimum wage (Source: BLS
reports). Activists for raising the minimum wage claim that the federal minimum wage of $7.25 is the
reason they are living in poverty, and that the wage must be raised for a better standard of living.
Many people who take on minimum wage jobs are young and work in companies that don t carry
much prestige; however, they still take pride in their work and demand higher pay (BLS reports). On
the other side of the issue, there are claims that raising the minimum wage will actually have more
drawbacks than benefits such as hurting the economy (Opposing Viewpoints). The ... Show more

These effects can be seen as a boost to the economy because those 28 million workers would make use
of their extra money, and put it back into the ever flowing economy. This action by the workers would
lead to an overall estimated 35 billion dollar increase (Cap Action). Raising the minimum wage would
also help lessen the disparity of income that often occurs. I think many people can agree that some
jobs pay way too much, as opposed to other jobs. By raising the minimum wage just a little, the
workers can feel more needed and potentially increase productivity (Cap Action). People also believe
that by ensuring a fair wage distribution, affluent people would have less trouble relating to poorer
folk, and vice versa. Raising the minimum wage would reduce unemployment, which is a problem
some 4% of Americans today suffer from (Pew Research). This statement is backed up by the fact that
previous states that raised minimum wage have generally seen an increase in offered jobs (Cap
Action). Raising the minimum wage would also minimally affect other prices of things, which would
not lead to problems in the overall scheme of things (Cap Action). It is stated that the price of a CD
would be raised by just one cent to compensate for a minimum wage increase. An increase would also
let 3.5 million workers who use food stamps to be able to purchase their own food, which would not
only help them, but also help the

What Is Cobalt In Pottery
Ancestry The element cobalt was discovered by Swedish chemist Georg Brandt in 1730. Cobalt had
been unknowingly used in pottery for centuries, but Brandt published his scientific results about the
metal in 1739. The blue color given off when cobalt is used in pottery was originally thought to be
because of another element, bismuth; Georg proved this wrong. At first there were speculations of
whether or not that this was a new element. Some other scientists claimed it was just a compound of
iron and arsenic. Eventually it gained the recognition it deserved as an element.
The chemical symbol for Cobalt is self explanatory, Co. The word Cobalt comes from the Greek word
for mine, cobalos. Cobalt is atomic number 27 putting it right in the ... Show more content on

It has a lustrous blue silvery color. The boiling point of cobalt is very high, as it is a metal. Cobalt
melts at 2723 degrees Fahrenheit, and it takes 5301 degrees to boil it. This is assuming that the
atmospheric pressure is normal and you re at sea level. Cobalt is very hard, which makes it useful to
humans. It is also pretty dense, at 8.86 grams per centimeters squared. This metal is very ductile, but
only somewhat malleable. There are only 2 known isotopes of Cobalt. Cobalt 59 is the only naturally
occurring isotope of Cobalt. This means that the only cobalt that will ever be found in nature is cobalt
with 32 neutrons. Cobalt 60 is a man made isotope of cobalt. This radioactive isotope was discovered
by Glenn Seaborg in the late 1930 s at the University of California. Cobalt 60 is an important source
of gamma radiation and is used in some medical fields to treat cancer. As it is a metal, cobalt will not
react with water or air at room temperature. However, if cobalt is heated to above 900 degrees Celsius,
the oxide Co3O4 will form. As far as acids go, cobalt will react to sulfuric acid and will be
deteriorated. The direct reaction between cobalt and bromine will result in dibromide cobalt (II)
bromide, CoBr2 being formed. Cobalt is not reactive with

Narrative Essay On Red Pomeranian
The Day Charlie the Pomeranian came home.
Early October 2009, a small red pomeranian was born in a litter of eight to two purebred pomeranians.
To a veterinarian that spent their career living in North Bay, Ontario. One of the coldest populated
places in northern Ontario, winters and snowstorms that beat down onto you until all you feel is cold,
while longing for the summer, the cool caress of a breeze cutting through the humid air. Something
you know longer remember the feel of.
At this point, in Ottawa, Ontario I; Margaret Ross had spent months saving up and begging for a dog
of my own. Our red bungalow home my father inherited from his late parents that had moved him
from Halifax to Ottawa in the late fifties.
His parents were both graduates from the well know American school Harvard University where the

One stood out, he was much more outgoing and curious than the others. Immediately he approached
us with excitement. Jumping at our shins, begging for pets as his long tail wagged wildly. Immediately
I knew he was meant to be mine. And he wanted to be mine just as much as I wanted him. Picking him
up and holding him, he had the softest fur I have ever felt. He was perfect.
Quickly money was exchanged as I held onto my new dog, and a new more boy ish name was thought
over for him. Quickly it was settled on Charlie. In my family Charles is a family name passed on
down from my grandfather s side, the first name son was always named Charles and then typically
went by their middle name like John. This generation of Rosses a single boy wasn t born, all my
cousins were girls.
But now with this ownership of a male pomeranian, we finally had the first boy of this generation of
Rosses. Charles was just so fitting, and Charlie was perfect for the adorable red

Raymond Loewy s Influence On The Modern World Essay
Raymond Loewy was born in France, in the city of Paris in 1893. This however wasn t Loewy s place
of work, as Loewy made his way in industry in America. It was here Loewy was going to become one
of the most influential designers of his time in the world, and it would be there where Loewy would
create a brand which would become known around the western world. From Coke bottles to trains, to
space stations Loewy has been involved in a wide range of industrial design and could be argued to be
the most famous and influential industrial product designer to date.
At the age of Fifteen Loewy designed a model aircraft which he then built and flew; this won him the
1908 James Gordon Bennett cup, which led to the model Ayrel being patented. Raymond Loewy then
worked as a Fashion illustrator for a short time before becoming an industrial designer. Lowey had a
set of principles which he made himself and lived by these principles, they were known as the MAYA
principles. The concept behind this principle is a product is the Most Advanced Yet Acceptable which
essentially indicates that a product is the best it can be without being overly complicated to the point
where no one wants to buy it. Raymond Loewy also was very informed on the market and knew that
people are not as accepting to a product if it is a completely different looking product which is more
ideal to use and he believed himself that The adult public taste is not necessarily ready to accept the

The musical is a lot like the book, both having the key message of finding and chasing your dreams. In the beginning of The Sound of Music, Captain Von Trapp is cold and distant, but thanks to the efforts of his children and Maria, he realizes how important his family is and how much he had been mistreating them. He then rediscovers his ability to sing before working together with them to escape Austria. Women In Politics New Zealand is ranked 35th internationally for its proportion of women parliamentary representatives, with 31 percent of parliamentary seats held by women after the 2014 election. In 1981, only 8 of 92 seats were held by women, with this number significantly increasing upon the introduction of a mixed member proportion ( MMP ) electoral system to 35 of 120 in 1996. Despite this increase, the number of women in electoral seats remains low (NZ Parliament, 2014) where the election of a candidate for a given electorate is first past the post. In the decade since the introduction of MMP, women have tended to be elected on party lists. This patriarchal structure means that the voices of minority groups (particularly women) in parliament are secondary to Cabinet s policy agenda. While the introduction of MMP in 1996 reduced the power of Cabinet, it is nonetheless difficult for the limited number of women MPs to influence this patriarchal power structure especially since bloc voting stifles dissenting political perspectives during the legislative process. The role of liberalism and masculinity Why do these patriarchal structures exist? Politics in the New Zealand liberal state are inherently masculine, where social systems are based upon the neutral treatment of all people under the Lockean assumption that those people are equal in the first place. In the expectation that men and women hold equal standing in society, patriarchal oppression is built into the application of political and social systems. In New Zealand politics, masculine traits are favoured under such a patriarchal structure. The liberal state favours objectivity, neutrality, and detachment masculine traits, instead of subjectivity, attentiveness, and care. Olsen (1991) argues that objectivity is a denial of the existence or potency of sex inequality that tacitly constructs reality from the dominant point of view . • 4. American Funding Of Nazi Eugenics American Funding of Nazi Eugenics Eugenics is a complex term that has been studied and discussed internationally and throughout the eras. A basic definition of eugenics is the scientific study of race improvement. The definition is then broken up into two different aspects, positive eugenics and negative eugenics. Positive eugenics is defined as improving a race by focusing on ways to increasing the better population. Incentives are given to those superior races or populations to have children and get married. On the other hand negative eugenics is decreasing the chances of the inferior race or population from having children. This type of negatives eugenics is trying to stop those who are determined on having inferior genes from passing on their inferior traits that would corrupt the population as a whole. The whole study of eugenics is based on the theory that the gene a person is born with determines their outcome in life. Using this theory some scientists are given a way to justify categorizing groups of people into superior or inferior classes based on race. The study of eugenics was discussed around the world having the main powers being in Great Britain, Germany, and the United States. Nazi Germany is one of the most notorious cases of eugenics being put into practice on a large scale. Before reading The Nazi Connection: Eugenics, American Racism German National Socialism by Stefan Kühl, I knew that Nazi s used eugenics to justify killing off Jews, handicap ... For instance, animals were hunted but the hunter would ask permission from the animal s spirit. History shows that Native American spirituality included many ceremonies and rituals that were practiced before and after hunting expeditions. It was thought that their spirituality in this way would ensure future success in hunting. The Lakota held and continue to hold that all is sacred (wakan), although certain objects, activities, and even people are instilled with more of this sacredness than others (Taylor, 2005). This sacrality can also be sought and obtained by such means as fasting, praying, self sacrifice, and generosity. Therefore, all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Deep ecology is similar to biocentric because it also believes that the flourishing of human and nonhuman life on earth has intrinsic value. In addition, deep ecology sees that the diversity of life forms have value also. Deep ecology and biocentric is very similar. Brookchin s Social Ecology The biocentric view believes that humans are not superior to animals. That they are on the same hierarchy level and that we are all a part of this integrative system. The biocentric view also believes that nature wasn t just intended to be consumed by individuals. Brookchin s social ecology is concerned with hierarchy. Brookchin looks at groups of people such as men over women and young over old or mind over body. He looks at the belief that one holds power over the other in society. Since he thinks that eventually most hierarchy societies will dominate so he want to get rid of all social hierarchies. Activists for raising the minimum wage claim that the federal minimum wage of $7.25 is the reason they are living in poverty, and that the wage must be raised for a better standard of living. Many people who take on minimum wage jobs are young and work in companies that don t carry much prestige; however, they still take pride in their work and demand higher pay (BLS reports). I think many people can agree that some jobs pay way too much, as opposed to other jobs. By raising the minimum wage just a little, the workers can feel more needed and potentially increase productivity (Cap Action). People also believe that by ensuring a fair wage distribution, affluent people would have less trouble relating to poorer folk, and vice versa. Cobalt had been unknowingly used in pottery for centuries, but Brandt published his scientific results about the metal in 1739. The blue color given off when cobalt is used in pottery was originally thought to be because of another element, bismuth; Georg proved this wrong. At first there were speculations of whether or not that this was a new element. Some other scientists claimed it was just a compound of iron and arsenic. Eventually it gained the recognition it deserved as an element. The chemical symbol for Cobalt is self explanatory, Co. The word Cobalt comes from the Greek word for mine, cobalos. Cobalt melts at 2723 degrees Fahrenheit, and it takes 5301 degrees to boil it. This is assuming that the atmospheric pressure is normal and you re at sea level. Cobalt is very hard, which makes it useful to humans. It is also pretty dense, at 8.86 grams per centimeters squared. This metal is very ductile, but only somewhat malleable. There are only 2 known isotopes of Cobalt. Cobalt 59 is the only naturally occurring isotope of Cobalt. This means that the only cobalt that will ever be found in nature is cobalt with 32 neutrons. Cobalt 60 is a man made isotope of cobalt. This radioactive isotope was discovered by Glenn Seaborg in the late 1930 s at the University of California. Cobalt 60 is an important source of gamma radiation and is used in some medical fields to treat cancer. As it is a metal, cobalt will not react with water or air at room temperature. However, if cobalt is heated to above 900 degrees Celsius, the oxide Co3O4 will form. As far as acids go, cobalt will react to sulfuric acid and will be deteriorated.
