The And Placebo Effect On Human Sciences
Since every object, event and story can be interpreted from multiple perspectives, people gain their
knowledge in a way largely influenced by the perspective. It is difficult to be convinced of any
knowledge that is without bias. The knowers all pursue the answer to their questions when researching
or learning the knowledge, which results in the similar way of thinking among the similar
communities. Few can detach themselves from the contemporary situation since the cultural
background, various eras, and diverse ways of knowing all help to shape the pursuit of knowledge.
While to a great extent I consider perspective as an essential factor in obtaining knowledge as
examples can be extracted from my Chinese cultural background, the ... Show more content on

Although the Chinese government promised to investigate the incident thoroughly, many western
media bitterly criticized the supervision system of food safety in China. From different perspective,
the foreign reporters did not have the intention to harbor the crime of the Chinese food companies and
the incompetence of Chinese ruling system. Moreover, foreign journalists began to suspect that the
Chinese press may have delayed reporting the incident in order to keep the perfect appearance during
the Olympic Games. For the 2008 Chinese milk scandal, the Chinese press held the perspective which
mostly preserves the prestige of Chinese government, while the foreign press boldly deduced and
query about the truth from another aspect. Thus, considering different perspectives when gaining the
knowledge will help people to generate more inference and get closer to the truth. Perspectives can be
evolved and altered as the time is progressing. As a Chinese old saying states, the spectators see the
chess game better than the players , many who live in the moment are unable to objectively justify the
contemporary events happened around them. Only the descendants, analyzing from new perspective,
can draw a conclusion more comprehensively while learning the history. Historians from different eras

Ines Rosale must be able to visualize the populations across the United States that meet the criteria for
its target markets. Ines Rosale is interested in finding metropolitan areas in the United States with a
dense Hispanic population. Through the use of demographic tools and multiple census data reports,
the mapping of Hispanic populations in the United States indicates that dense Hispanic populations
can be found in cities located in every region of the United States. Within these cities, Hispanic
populations tend to be found in clusters either within the major metropolitan city or in the bordering
smaller cities. By understanding where Hispanic populations lie within a city, Ines Rosales will be

Government Internet Censorship of China
Government Internet Censorship of China
The Internet is also called Information superhighway because of the limitless amount of data that one
person can access from it. The fact is not all of us can access the Internet like what it is. There are
many roadblocks on the superhighway in form of Internet Censorship . There are several kinds of
motivations for censorship. It ranges from keeping children away from undesirable content to a
government control of nation s access of information. In China, the internet censorship is especially
strong. According to the study of Chinese Internet censorship by OpenNetInitiative China operate the
most extensive, technologically sophisticated, and broad reaching system of Internet filtering in the
word (OpenNetInitiative 2005). In this essay, I want to write about how the Internet censorship
working in China and why China government is running such strong regulations controlling internet.
Internet has arrived in China since 1994. Because of the importance of the internet for China s global
economic competitiveness, leaders of China had no choice but open this window. This is not the first
time China opening itself to the world. Since the policy of reform and opening up began by Deng

ensure the rise of new commercial class was not accompanied by political change. One of Deng s

Voter Id Laws
Voter ID Laws Fraud or Fraud Prevention?
Voter ID Laws, now present in some form or another in thirty states, require individuals to show
government issued identification in order to cast a ballot on Election Day. The debate over the need
for such laws has never been more important. Voter ID laws were brought to the forefront of American
politics in the most recent presidential election as a result of President Elect Donald Trump s
insistence that the election process in America is riddled with wide spread voter fraud. His claims of a
rigged election were printed, broadcast, and proliferated through social media for the majority of his
campaign. Such claims, if factual, should certainly be immediately rectified. The United States is built
on the integrity of its election process and maintaining that integrity is paramount. The issue at hand
is: Are these claims of widespread voter fraud fact or fiction? The key driver in the debate over Voter
ID laws is whether or not such laws are intended to prevent voter fraud or whether the laws
themselves are a form of government endorsed fraud intended to suppress the vote of specific
populations. The fact remains that neither the President Elect nor the states implementing Voter ID
laws have been able to produce evidence of election rigging or widespread voter fraud. As such,
without evidence of the need for the supposed protection from fraud that these laws are intended to
provide, we can only conclude that such laws are not

very important for a person who lives in the suburbs of Southern California, students need them to go

Women s Rights Of Women
Makenzie Holman
Research Brief
In the early 1900s, it was very uncommon for women to have access to contraceptives or health
education. Then one day, a doctor and a nurse tended to a women at home who was suffering from
having an abortion. Just like many women in the U.S. at this time, she was wanting to learn how to
prevent pregnancies so she did not have to have any more abortions. As the doctor and nurse left this
woman s house, the women begged the doctor to teach her how she could prevent her own
pregnancies. To the nurses disbelief the doctor would not give the woman one once of information.
This is the moment where health education would change forever. This moment released the
beginning of the fight to make contraceptives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since violating the law was a crime that would lead to jail, Sanger fled to Europe to learn how other
countries dealt with pregnancy and contraceptives. Sanger noticed that it was unfair to lower income
families that they were uneducated about health education and always had to have abortions, where a
lot of the time women would die, compared to higher income families that had more access to this
education and they could prevent pregnancies. After many attempts of providing information to the
public and getting in trouble with the law, Sanger decided to have a new conservative approach to the
public. She was getting aggravated that laws were not being passed, so she created the National
Committee on Federal Legislation for Birth Control (NCFL). Birth control could be prescribed by
doctors at this time, but because of the Comstock laws many doctors did not like sharing this
information. This is why Sanger created the NCFL, so she could get more attention to legislators that
would then create an amendment that would allow doctors to share this crucial health information with
the public. After years and years of birth control propaganda and social reform, Sanger finally saw the
day where the Comstock law was dropped in the 1965 Supreme Court Case in Griswold v.
Connecticut. The court finally ruled that it was a constitutional right have a private use of
contraceptives. Sanger also provided the start of researching the

The Evolution Of Female Identity
The Evolution of Female Identity
Characterization through stereotyping female identity creates weak characters bound by gender
expectations. The evolution of dimensional working girl protagonists develops an unconventional
female identity, which breaks the common tropes of a woman s role in literature and society.
Independent female archetypes often adopt masculine qualities to achieve status, earnest acceptance
and independence in a man s world. The heroine, Nancy Drew, promotes the corrosion of traditional
female identity, inheriting male identified traits to express success and strength. In the first chapter of
Carolyn Keene s mystery novel, The Message in the Hollow Oak, the archetype of a strong female
character equates success from transcending into male identified personality, reverting from tradition
femininity and adopting male qualifies to express strong independent characteristics. Through the
narrative exposition and indirect integration of character development through dialogue and inner
monologue, female characters within the novel display strength by identifying with masculine
strength. Female identity is contrasted through the characterization of George and Bess, identifying
two representations of femininity as one that conforms to the norms of gender within society, and one
who equates boyish physical appearance with strength and success.
In the novel, character development is displayed through narrative exposition and dialogue. Female
characters within

Obstacles In The Antonia
Things will be easy for you. But they will be hard for us (p. 111). These words, spoken by Ántonia,
the protagonist of the novel My Ántonia , give light to the situation immigrants found themselves in
after moving to the North America s Western frontier. This novel reveals how immigrants in the late
1800s and early 1900s had to overcome numerous obstacles on the path towards The American Dream
which those native to the area did not have to face. In the late 1800s, America became more attractive
to immigrants as they considered its growing economic opportunity. Many families and individuals

Immigrating to the frontier with nothing but the belongings they could carry, these families would
have to start from scratch. The novel portrays how immigrants of this time started out behind as they
were forced to take loans from whomever they could to start their lives at their new homes. Mr.
Shimerda makes a point to explain to their new neighbors that in his former home, Bohemia, they
were not poor, but they became poor moving to America (p. 61). Immigrants struggled to have enough
money to begin their farms and often had to take out loans. A Russian immigrant in the novel had to
take out several loans to get by. These loans only grew from interest as he was unable to pay the dues
(p. 44). This resulted in him only growing more and more in debt and being buried in mortgages. As
most immigrants were in debt, they had to continue to labor vigorously on their farms and were not
able to gain the skills or education many non immigrants were able to get. This meant they would not
be able to one day obtain a higher paying knowledge job in the city. For example, Ántonia desired to
attend school, but when asked about it by her neighbor, she insisted she was too busy with farm work
to attend (p. 97). While Ántonia was unable to attend school, her neighbor, Jim, was able to. As adults,
Jim was a lawyer in the city while Ántonia remained a mother in the frontier. This is just one example
that unveils the different levels of upward mobility and how they affected the immigrants in contrast

Thomas Paine s Influence On The American Revolution
Thomas Paine (1736 1809) was an English American writer and political theorist, whose work,
especially the Common Sense, has greatly influence the America Revolution in the eighteenth century.
Paine wrote the pamphlet Common Sense during 1775 and 1776, in which he advocated independence
of the American Colonies from Great Britain. At the suggestion of Benjamin Franklin, the man he met
in London, Paine emigrated to America and landed at Philadelphia on November 30, 1774. At first, he
published the African Slavery to criticize the brutal and inequitable slavery. As a co editor of the

As the necessary evil , the government should play its function solely on protecting freedom and
security. The ideal status for people was to live without government, and the need for the government
was only to mitigate the problems brought by the anarchic way of life. Paine also pointed out the
problems of monarchy, in which he argued that all men were created equal so the idea that one man
was better off the others had violated this equal right (Shi and Mayer, 100). The practice of hereditary
succession would brought a series of problems, such as corruption and war. Besides, Paine made
arguments further by analyzing the current situation of America. In regards to the comments that
Britain has led to the flourish of America, Paine noted that the Americans themselves contributed to
the achievement and they could live without the help of Britain. The supervision from Britain was for
their own sake rather than that of America. Final, Paine indicated that breaking away from Britain was
an inevitable trend for America. In the long run, America would benefit from independent a lot. It

Emperor And Nationalist Ideology Essay
The Emperor and Nationalist Ideology in Meiji Era Japan
The Meiji Era in Japan is known as a time of rapid industrialization and Westernization where many
institutions of society were realigned in one form or another to be consistent with their Western
counterparts. Ironically, at the same time, it was a period of growing nationalistic feelings that began
to develop in Japanese society. However, besides being a reactionary or nostalgic feeling experienced
by the population, this nationalist ideology was also actively promoted by the Meiji leadership.
Central to this ideology was the emperor who was effectively and successfully used as a tool for
legitimizing the Meiji government.

Research Proposal On Right To Repair Legislation

Dear Senator José Menéndez,
I thank you for your hard work representing our district in the State Capitol in Austin. I am a student
of cyber security at the University of Texas at San Antonio that uses electronics constantly as part of
my learning as well as other aspects of my life. It has come to my attention that in order to repair the

This not only applies to farm equipment, but to technology at large. The same problems that farmers
face with programmers face in their Internet connected devices, motorists have in their new tech savvy
cars, and gamers face in their recently broken gaming consoles. The repair monopoly is huge because
of the lack of regulation and is resulting in larger companies stifling smaller business, therefore
reducing competition, driving up the price of repair in general, and killing local jobs.
This calls into question some basic ideas of property. When you a buy a product, is it really yours?
According to many companies, including Apple, John Deere, and Sony, it really isn t. You re really
just purchasing a license to use a product and how you use it is entirely up to the OEM. This question
of where and how a consumer should repair a device should not be answered by the OEM.
This further creates a culture of obselesence. In cases where it would cost more to repair a device
rather than to buy a new one, the latter is chosen. This can have unintended consequences for the
environment through electronic waste, or e waste. The purposefully short lifespan of technology
heavily contributes to this and a culture of repairing would properly address this.
Solution
My solution includes legislation that would ensure that

Walmart Disaster Recovery Plan
Although there was high sensitive nature of work at GetSmart there should have still been a backup
system or a recovery policy to prevent data from being lost. Since this policy was in place for the last
three years and was going well until this disaster, there should have been a plan to be prepared. Being
on the committee with many other employees I think it is important for us to come up with a way to
have all files have a backup system in case of a storm or any other situation that may have all data to
be lost. New Policies As technology grows, it makes it easier for people to hack into files which is a

The backup copy will be kept on a flash drive and will only be used in case of a disaster. A disaster
recovery plan is used when a company needs to recover sensitive information if a system crashed and
data was lost. My colleagues and I had to decide how often we should backup files and after doing
some research, we came to a conclusion to backup data once a day due to the company s sensitive data
and operations so all information will be saved. If any changes are made to the company such as
software updates the disaster recovery plan should be updated as well so it can be updated. Every six
months the plan will be tested to make sure it is working properly and effectively. We decided that
only authorized employees will have access to critical files to and to backup data. Next time a disaster
occurs the Company will be prepared and not have information lost because all files will be on a flash
drive and be updated once a day. We took into consideration other scenarios happening such as cyber
attacks and decided to invest in an anti hacking system and firewalls to make sure all information is

Investigate the Effect of Varying Solution Concentration on Osmosis in a Potato Chip
Prediction
A definition of osmosis is: the movement of water molecules from an area of high water concentration
to a low water concentration across a semi permeable membrane (Oxforddictionary 2000).
In a high concentration of water the amount of solute (e.g. sugar) is low. These solutions are usually
known as a dilute or weak solution.
But in a low concentration of water the amount of solute (e.g. sugar) is high. These solutions are
usually known as concentrated or strong solutions. When a weak solution and a strong solution are
separated by a partially permeable membrane, the water will move from the area of high concentration

Using this information, I have come to the prediction that with a high concentration of sucrose in the
water, the mass of the potato will decrease and the cells will become plasmolysed. In a low
concentration of sucrose the cells will become turgid.
Preliminary work
I have based my prediction on a prelimary experiment we did amongst our class, this experiment
involved us placing potato chips into various concentrations of sucrose solution and observing the
potato s change in mass according to the solution they were placed in.
Carrying out a preliminary experiment helped me to decide how long to leave the potato chips in the
sucrose solution. In the preliminary I left them for 24hrs however I found this an insufficient time and
this helped me to decide on leaving the potato chips for 2hrs in the final experiment. Preliminary

Investigation Plan
Problem
When you boil a pot of water on the stove, it takes a while until it boils. What do you think would
happen if you put salt in the boiling pot of water? When ice forms on the streets, it can be dangerous
and cause accidents. What do you think would happen if we put salt on the streets before the water
froze?
Hypothesis
When you put salt in a pot of boiling water, that will raise the temperature of the water, and the water
will boil faster. When you put salt on the streets before the water freezes, the salt will cause the water
to freeze at a lower temperature. This makes it to where the ice takes longer to freeze.

Case Study Of Bradley s American Legion
Church and Community The Bradley community turned to both Robert and Bessie for leadership in
numerous organizations. Fortunately, their core values included a commitment to civic service.
Enthusiastically involved in the founding of Bradley s American Legion Post 108, Robert became its
charter president. Although too ill to attend the Bradley American Legion Auxiliary s organizational
meeting, the members, in spite of her absence, elected Bessie president of the women s association.
After the meeting, two members visited the Brown residence and informed Bessie of her high office.
She told them, I m too sick to argue and say no. Throughout their lives, Robert and Bessie remained
active in the Bradley Legion and frequently filled leadership roles while engaged in Legion activities.
Robert Brown and his family observed Decoration Day, an important holiday for the American

Tay Sachs Essay
Imagine that there is a disease that is terrible and causes trouble for you every day, there is no cure,
there is only the dragging on of day after day. This is Tay Sachs Disease, it is a disease that is lifelong,
that is, unless it kills you early on in life. This disease has lots of symptoms. These symptoms are a
result of how the disease affects the brain and its functionality. This disease is an inherited disease,
and is known as a serious genetic disease.( Health and Wellness Resource center and Alternative

Irony In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet are two names that are constantly associated with love. Love isn t the half of the
story of Romeo and Juliet, it is moreso a story of conflict and secrecy. The reason for the conflict is
the two wealthy families of Capulet and Montague. The conflict between the two houses leads to the
secrecy involved with Romeo and Juliet s Relationship. This can be seen in the physical conflicts
between the houses, how they view each other, and also the conflicts within the houses that happen
because of other conflicts. The story of Romeo and Juliet starts with a fight between the Montagues

Embrace By The Needle By Gabor Mate
The Dark Side of the Brain
The reason people are able to communicate, connect, feel, and understand the world around them is
because of their highly intelligent minds. People often take this gift for granted, and do not fully
comprehend how capable their minds are of absorbing and processing information. Two authors with
two very different circumstances for their essays are able to support their arguments through
psychology and ongoing brain research. In Embrace by the Needle (2001), Gabor Mate explores the
psychological reason behind why addictions can develop in drug users. While in Is Google Making Us
Stupid? (2008) Nicholas Carr, explores the ongoing research on how digital media affect people s
cognitive development, in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the authors use two different methods of portraying their argument. Mate s argument is
strong and compelling with his research evidence. Using an ethos approach, he persuades the reader
that he can be trusted and that his evidence is compelling. He suggests that he is an expert in the field
of research and treatment of addictions. He develops the majority of his argument by explaining his
research findings on the psychological effects of drug abuse. He uses anecdotes from his patients at
the harm reducing, non profit Portland faculty to provide further proof that his research findings are
factual. He leaves the reader with a conclusive argument that is hard to argue with. In contrast, Carr
uses a logos approach to portray his argument, he develops the majority of his argument through
anecdotes instead of research facts. His argument is based on the conclusion he makes from his set of
facts and statistics. He shares his own personal anecdote and other people s anecdote of how they are
finding it hard now to focus on reading a book. He then uses the results from a published study of
online research habits to support his anecdote evidence. By using the logos approach, he forms an
argument that is logical and appeals to the reader intellect. However, since the research on how digital
media affect people cognitive development is still ongoing, there is still not enough concrete evidence.

stairs that lead to equality and freedom. She also states that the stairs she took were splintered and torn

that, the term crystal stairs then becomes a bit easier to grasp. White people are given the crystal stairs,

The Hard Evidence Of Beer Essay
Hard evidence of beer dates back about 5,000 years to the Sumerians of ancient
Mesopotamia. ( Who invented beer? ) Beer gave the Sumerians a safe alternative
nutrient rich alternative then having to drink from near by canals or rivers. Beer was
mainly made in the home during medieval time and it was not until about 14th and 15th
centuries that beer began to steer away from being a family oriented activity. In 15th
century England unhopped beer was known as an ale, when they mixed in hops it was
known as a beer. By the 16th century all beers and ales were made with hops. During the
18th century the Daniel Wheeler invented the drum roaster, which created dark roasted
malts, which gave way to porters and stouts. In 1953, New Zealander Morton W. Coutts
developed the technique of continuous fermentation. Coutts patented his process, which
involves beer flowing through sealed tanks, fermenting under pressure, and never coming
into contact with the atmosphere, even when bottled. ( Who invented beer? ) His
process is used by Guinness. Today, the brewing industry is a huge global business,
consisting of several multinational companies, and many thousands of smaller producers
ranging from brewpubs to regional breweries.
Today many of the first original beer giants have joined forces to create large

Community Analysis Essay
Imagination plays a crucial role in creating communities and its identity. Fiction, in this case will
cover both absolute fabrications and biases in the discourse of history s narration. History can be
malleable in the hands of narrators, which they use to unite their audience into a common
interpretation of their history. Alicia Barber, The author of the essay, Local Places, National Spaces:
Public Memory, Community Identity and Landscape at Scotts Bluff National Monument, talks about
two community s disagreement on a tourist spot s proper use and maintenance. Barber analyzes the

The community in this case refers to the local community s role in the history being commemorated.
Their particular behaviour in staking their claim in history can be described as a group s narcissism in
their history s narration. A group s patriotism to a place would not exist if there was nothing to be
proud of, and sometimes, for such histories to exist, the narrative of the stories have to be bias. Their
discourse lies within storyteller s allegiances and favouritism to certain groups. The local community s
(the neighbouring towns: Gering and Scottsbluff) role as an activist community who are the ones who
primarily interact with the landmark will be emphasizes. The national community s role in the
landmark s development might be downsized or simply not fall in favour of the narrator s discourse.
Nationalism is a fiction that bends history. Conversions of fictions into history and history into
perceived fiction powers patriotism, and on the extreme end nationalism. Ignatieff states nationalism s
propaganda on Serb radio about the Croats sets the stone for the ignorance they need in order to
separate themselves from the Croats, and to perceive their differences as threats to their over embraced
uniqueness. Nationalism is a fiction: it requires the willing suspension of disbelief. To believe in
nationalist fictions is to forget certain realities (Ignatieff

Ancient Religion Vs Modern Culture
There are similarities in how the ancient and modern cultures view the heavens despite there being
many more differences. Like modern culture, ancient culture understood the earth to be approximately
spherical. About 2,500 years ago, Anaxagoras and Empedocles proposed justifications for the
spherical nature of Earth. When Earth is between the moon and the sun, during a lunar eclipse, they
recognized Earth s shadow on the moon. The shadow that moves across the moon is clearly round
which suggests that Earth is a sphere. Another similarity is the use of time in making astronomical
observations. The Mesopotamians measured time using waterclocks to quantify the passage of time,
and became fascinated by charting the occurrence of celestial events,

George Patton And Shakespeare s Speech
Imagine thousands of 15th century English footman plagued with dysentery trying to march the long
journey back to their homes after a desperate attempt to gain back land that had been stolen from their
beloved country, but their path back home had been blocked by highly skilled french knights, or
American soldiers during the climax of WWII planning a full scale allied attack on the German troops
who had taken over nearly all of Europe in only three short years. These are the men that the King of
England and Lieutenant General George Patton were cursed with motivating. Despite the time
difference of nearly half a millennium, similar motivational approaches and techniques were used by
the commanders of these armies to lead both of them to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is exactly the feeling that the King is trying to provoke. Although Shakespeare does not
necessarily use worth in its traditional way of making people feel important, he sparks competition
within his men, which would likely be more effective at such a low point in their war. Similarly,
Lieutenant General George Patton needs to motivate his soldiers to fight an equally if not more
dangerous battle, but his men were already winning their war so he takes the traditional route and
makes them feel more important. He says to his men All real heroes are not storybook combat fighters,
either. Every single man in this Army plays a vital role. Don t ever let up. Don t ever think that your
job is unimportant. Every man has a job to do and he must do it. Every man has a vital link in the great
chain (Patton 38 40). There is one big difference in the way Shakespeare and Patton used worth. The
King s men were badly losing so their only hope of survival was to compete against each other to stay
alive, however since Patton s men were winning all he had to do was reinforce what they were already
worth and they would want to fight. By making each job seem equally important Patton motivates
each man to work just as hard as everyone else. Not only does worth have this effect, but also status.
Status, much like worth, makes you feel good about yourself, by putting their soldiers above others

Corruption as a Consequence of Colonialism
Corruption as a Consequence of Colonialism as portrayed in Achebe s The African Trilogy
All quotations are taken from the 1988 Picador edition of Chinua Achebe s The African Trilogy
He has put a knife on all the things that held us together and we have fallen apart (Things Fall Apart,
145)
The things that held the Igbo tribe together were their close bonds of clan kinship, unified allegiance
to their gods, and their democratic society. These were the very things that the English set out to
attack, to put a knife on . Once they began this process, Igbo society was never to be the same again.
Chinua Achebe s The African Trilogy, while an excellent piece of literature in its own right, can also
be read as an excellent historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This confusion at the refusal of the Igbos to accept positions such as this is well illustrated in Arrow of
God:
Well, are you accepting the offer or not? Clarke glowed with the I know this will knock you over
feeling of a benefactor.
Tell the white man that Ezeulu will not be anybody s chief, except Ulu
What! shouted Clarke. Is the fellow mad?
I tink so sah, said the interpreter.
In that case he goes back to prison. Clarke was now really angry. What cheek! A witch doctor making
a fool of the British Administration in public! (498)
The selection of Ezeulu as a potential Warrant Chief is typical of the kind of selection regularly made
by the British a man who was already in the possession of real authority and wealth in his community.
However, the responses of those chosen were not always as idealistic as Ezeulu s. Many Igbos jumped
at the chance of some real power, safe in the knowledge that they were backed by British officials, and
Warrant chiefs became notorious for their corruption and exploitation. Speaking of the Warrant Chief
he has instigated in Okperi, Winterbottom exclaims:
The man was a complete non entity until we crowned him, and now he carries on as if he had been

Social Disorganization Theory On Urban Ecology And Burgess...
Social Disorganization
Nicole Hofmann
Criminological Theory University of Tampa Abstract
Social Disorganization theory has its roots in urban ecology and Burgess s concentric model. As part
of the positivist paradigm of criminology, it poses a scientific examination of the connection of social
disorganization and crime mediated by structural factors. The macro level research concludes that a
weakening of social bonds between an individual and institutions of socialization will lead to
delinquency. Over time, there has been much empirical support for the theory and extensions have
been made to include more reliable measures of social disorganization within a community. This paper
will discuss the origins of the theory developed by Shaw and McKay, then move forward to prominent
empirical support, social disorganization research on suburban areas and lead up to valid criticism of
the theory. Finally, there will be an examination of the policy implications originally posed and a
proposal towards a more integrated approach addressing causes for social disorganization through the
critical paradigm of criminology.
Introduction
Social disorganization theory is part of the positivist paradigm of criminology, a scientific approach to
crime causes, and part of the Chicago School of crime. While trait theories under the positivist
approach assume that crime is cause by internal factors, social disorganization theory relies on the
assumption that crime is caused by environmental

The Pros And Cons Of Speedy Tutors
Fellow students of Columbia State Community College; are you struggling in a subject, but it is hard
to ask the teacher for help? Well fear no longer: Speedy
Tutors offers an anonymous peer to peer tutoring system. Simply come to the designated building, fill
out the information card, and enter it into the terminal provided. From there the data will be used to
find a match for the student. Which matches the student with someone who can not only help them in
their subject, but the student can also help the other party in a subject they are struggling in. Not only
does Speedy Tutors offer a way to communicate with people, but it paves the way for many other
options as well. People could continue seeing each other after their first tutoring session for ... Show

Setting the stage, is the useful thing about the system. The actual upsides of having a fellow peer tutor
you in a subject. In an anonymous survey conducted on SurveyMonkey.com, seven out of fourteen
people said they would prefer to be tutored by a peer over a professor. With this service the aim is to
do just that, to bring tutoring to a peer to peer experience instead of a normal peer to professor
experience. With this the goal is to make it easier for students to learn in a friendlier environment
instead of a more judgmental or stricter environment that sometimes comes from tutoring from a
professor.
Secondly, is the possibility of creating a new friendship from the program.
With this program you receive the anonymous student s phone number which allows you to keep in
touch with them past the first tutoring session, however this is only done with the students consent. If
the student would like to remain anonymous and keep their phone number private, we will contact
them with a location and time to meet their tutor. We encourage meeting other students

From reading this case study of The Cortez Family Paula had three professionals involved with her

The And Placebo Effect On Human Sciences Since every object, event and story can be interpreted from multiple perspectives, people gain their knowledge in a way largely influenced by the perspective. It is difficult to be convinced of any knowledge that is without bias. The knowers all pursue the answer to their questions when researching or learning the knowledge, which results in the similar way of thinking among the similar communities. Few can detach themselves from the contemporary situation since the cultural background, various eras, and diverse ways of knowing all help to shape the pursuit of knowledge. Voter ID Laws, now present in some form or another in thirty states, require individuals to show government issued identification in order to cast a ballot on Election Day. The debate over the need for such laws has never been more important. Voter ID laws were brought to the forefront of American politics in the most recent presidential election as a result of President Elect Donald Trump s insistence that the election process in America is riddled with wide spread voter fraud. His claims of a rigged election were printed, broadcast, and proliferated through social media for the majority of his campaign. Such claims, if factual, should certainly be immediately rectified. The United States is built on the integrity of its election process and maintaining that integrity is paramount. The issue at hand is: Are these claims of widespread voter fraud fact or fiction? The key driver in the debate over Voter ID laws is whether or not such laws are intended to prevent voter fraud or whether the laws themselves are a form of government endorsed fraud intended to suppress the vote of specific populations. The fact remains that neither the President Elect nor the states implementing Voter ID laws have been able to produce evidence of election rigging or widespread voter fraud. The evolution of dimensional working girl protagonists develops an unconventional female identity, which breaks the common tropes of a woman s role in literature and society. Independent female archetypes often adopt masculine qualities to achieve status, earnest acceptance and independence in a man s world. The heroine, Nancy Drew, promotes the corrosion of traditional female identity, inheriting male identified traits to express success and strength. In the first chapter of Carolyn Keene s mystery novel, The Message in the Hollow Oak, the archetype of a strong female character equates success from transcending into male identified personality, reverting from tradition femininity and adopting male qualifies to express strong independent characteristics. Through the narrative exposition and indirect integration of character development through dialogue and inner monologue, female characters within the novel display strength by identifying with masculine strength. Investigate the Effect of Varying Solution Concentration on Osmosis in a Potato Chip Prediction A definition of osmosis is: the movement of water molecules from an area of high water concentration to a low water concentration across a semi permeable membrane (Oxforddictionary 2000). By making each job seem equally important Patton motivates each man to work just as hard as everyone else. Not only does worth have this effect, but also status. Status, much like worth, makes you feel good about yourself, by putting their soldiers above others LTG George Patton and the King, through Shakespeare, motivate their men to want to ... Corruption as a Consequence of Colonialism Corruption as a Consequence of Colonialism as portrayed in Achebe s The African Trilogy All quotations are taken from the 1988 Picador edition of Chinua Achebe s The African Trilogy He has put a knife on all the things that held us together and we have fallen apart (Things Fall Apart, 145) The things that held the Igbo tribe together were their close bonds of clan kinship, unified allegiance to their gods, and their democratic society. These were the very things that the English set out to attack, to put a knife on . Once they began this process, Igbo society was never to be the same again. This confusion at the refusal of the Igbos to accept positions such as this is well illustrated in Arrow of God: Well, are you accepting the offer or not? Clarke glowed with the I know this will knock you over feeling of a benefactor. Tell the white man that Ezeulu will not be anybody s chief, except Ulu What! shouted Clarke. Is the fellow mad? I tink so sah, said the interpreter. In that case he goes back to prison. Clarke was now really angry. What cheek! A witch doctor making a fool of the British Administration in public! (498) The selection of Ezeulu as a potential Warrant Chief is typical of the kind of selection regularly made by the British a man who was already in the possession of real authority and wealth in his community. However, the responses of those chosen were not always as idealistic as Ezeulu s. Many Igbos jumped at the chance of some real power, safe in the knowledge that they were backed by British officials, and Warrant chiefs became notorious for their corruption and exploitation. Speaking of the Warrant Chief he has instigated in Okperi, Winterbottom exclaims: The man was a complete non entity until we crowned him, and now he carries on as if he had been nothing else all his ... • 48. Social Disorganization Theory On Urban Ecology And Burgess... Social Disorganization Nicole Hofmann Criminological Theory University of Tampa Abstract Social Disorganization theory has its roots in urban ecology and Burgess s concentric model. As part of the positivist paradigm of criminology, it poses a scientific examination of the connection of social disorganization and crime mediated by structural factors. The macro level research concludes that a weakening of social bonds between an individual and institutions of socialization will lead to delinquency. Over time, there has been much empirical support for the theory and extensions have been made to include more reliable measures of social disorganization within a community. This paper will discuss the origins of the theory developed by Shaw and McKay, then move forward to prominent empirical support, social disorganization research on suburban areas and lead up to valid criticism of the theory. Finally, there will be an examination of the policy implications originally posed and a proposal towards a more integrated approach addressing causes for social disorganization through the critical paradigm of criminology. Introduction Social disorganization theory is part of the positivist paradigm of criminology, a scientific approach to crime causes, and part of the Chicago School of crime. While trait theories under the positivist approach assume that crime is cause by internal factors, social disorganization theory relies on the assumption that crime is caused by environmental ...
