Environmental Burden Of Coal Fired Power Plants Essay
Introduction :
New techniques reduce the environmental burden of coal fired power plants and allow higher
efficiencies with a better conversion of heat to electrical energy
In the discussion concerning available energy carriers this is interesting to notice, since coal reserves
can provide enough energy for another estimated 150 200 years. This is a much longer period than is
calculated for the proven oil and gas reserves and is a factor that cannot be ignored in global energy
discussions. The new techniques make power plants more complex and therefore safety should get
extra attention in design and construction. Conventional power plants are designed conform standard
guidelines developed in close harmony between companies, notified bodies and authorities. Safety has
always been an implicit component of design and standard routines. With the introduction of extra
complexity this is no longer sufficient and other methods that are already common practice in the
petrochemical industry should be and are already introduced to secure overall safety.
Research Problem :
The main direction of activities of this complex consists in creation of basic and welding materials and
processes which provide manufacturing of the main equipment of nuclear power plants.
The work in this field commenced practically at the same time when the first nuclear power objects
were being put into operation in the country and developed along with this branch of engineering.

Student Jazz Ensemble Concert Report
On April 4, 2017, I attended the Student Jazz Ensemble at the State University of New York at New
Paltz. The concert held in the Julien J. Studley Theatre at 8 pm. It was an impressive student spring
concert series performed by the students from our college. Although the concert was not performed as
the professional concerts held in famous places, it was great opportunity for the campus community to
listen that kind of musical activity. I have attended the same Jazz Ensemble concert in the previous
spring semester because one of my friends from Turkey was playing saxophone during the
performance like he did in this performance.
The Jazz Ensemble was composed of eleven students and they played different music during the
concert. They played music based on classic jazz pieces and some of the pieces were familiar to me
because I remember them from my past experience. The instruments were regular for a jazz band,
however, I have never take attention before, so, listening these different instruments voices in a very
harmonized way was amazing. There was a trumpet player, two vocals, electric and acoustic guitarists,
saxophone players, electric and double bass players and a drum player in the band. ... Show more

As a first music, the band played a song which they created on the stage which was really interesting
because the members of the band played the music very harmonized and symmetrical way. The most
interesting part of this unfamiliar experiment was that each member of the band played
extemporaneously notes based on their own preference. After that music, How Deep is the Ocean by
Irving berlin was played. The following one was the St. Louis Blues by the W. C. Handy. The songs
were slow and easy going songs which I really liked to

Universal Basic Income (UBI)
Alternatives
The great paradox of our time is that productivity has never been higher and technology is developing
faster than ever before, but real wages and labor force participation have declined. If we accept the
notion that individuals have a moral, societal, and economic obligation to society to work, then whose
responsibility is it in society to ensure that adequate work exists for individuals?
As hard as it may be, the first thing for workers and politicians to do is to accept the reality of our time
that no matter how hard one works, jobs have been lost much more to technology than to international
trade, and are never coming back. Since it is unclear whether or not new jobs will be created in their
wake, rather than trying to protect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, similar to Universal Basic Income, it too would go against the basic instincts of the
Protestant work ethic, in that it would decouple money and work by giving money to everyone.
Perplexingly, those who do not work but otherwise receive a passive income through their investments
are not viewed as lazy. Rather, they are rewarded with capital gains taxes that are lower than income
taxes. This is a direct contradiction of the essence of the Protestant work ethic.
With regard to educational inequality, one argument is to revamp science and technology education
and teach computer science and coding from an early age. On the other hand, as technological change
continues to accelerate, those skills may be obsolete by the time a student enters the workforce.
Another camp of experts is arguing for a greater emphasis on lifelong learning, and traits like
creativity and social intelligence, which Frey and Osborne found are less susceptible to

Improving The Standard And Effectiveness Of Education
ABSTRACT
Over the years, educators have laid emphasis on understanding factors that contribute to improving the
standard and effectiveness of education in impoverished neighborhoods. A lot of studies have aimed to
ascertain the benefits that various safety network programs have for at risk children living in poverty
stricken areas of the country. This paper seeks to highlight the host of elements that have a positive
bearing on the academic outcome of children belonging to the poverty stricken counties in the state of
Ohio. The research will employ a qualitative method design and involve using semi structured
interviews, observations and archival data to explore the teaching methodologies and administrative
measures that play a role in improving the effectiveness of schools in areas affected by poverty.
The paper is designed to provide insight regarding the adverse effects that poverty has on education
and what could be done to remedy the situation, by addressing three distinct research questions. Firstly
it asks the question about what factors have a detrimental impact on the educational outcome of high
poverty states in the country. Secondly it seeks to determine how such factors serve as barriers in the
way of development for children belonging to less affluent families. Lastly, the paper looks into that
question of what administrative measures can be taken in order to effect a positive change in the
educational outcomes of children belonging to less affluent counties in

referred to a different therapist because his first could not handle his abnormal emotional disorders
and his clinginess. Doctor Leo Marvin, Bobs new therapist, goes on vacation after only one visit with
Bob. Bob was immediately attached to his new therapist. He leaves Bob a book to read that he wrote

The Effects Of Transportation In The Rocky Horror Picture...
Have you ever been so engrossed in a movie that you felt like you were one of the characters? Star
Wars fans are a prime example of this phenomenon. Many fans flock to the theater wearing costumes.
Another example that may help identify transportation is the audience participation in the movie, The
Rocky Horror Picture Show. Fans would not only dress as one of the characters, but they would
interact with props while the moving was being played. Being so engaged in a movie makes one feel
as if they have been transported into the place they are watching. According to the article,
Transportation Across Media: Repeated Exposure to Print and Film, Transportation has three main
components: cognitive engagement, emotional engagement, and mental imagery. The self report
transportation scale includes items tapping each of these dimensions, but prior research with the scale
suggests that all three aspects combine to produce transportation effects (Green Brock, 2000). (Media
Psychology, 2008) The idea of one being able to feel as if they are transported into another world may
seem absurd to some, but the reality is we all enjoy movies because it somehow sends our minds to
another world for a short time. It helps us temporarily forget our daily stressors. Need for cognition is
the tendency to enjoy and engage in effortful cognitive activity (Cacioppo Petty, 1982). (Media
Psychology, 2008) The effect of transportation is apparent in watching someone play video games.

Essay Overfishing Experience
Growing up in Minnesota, I spent extensive time fishing amongst the states ten thousand lakes,
inquisitively examining how the environment influenced aquatic organisms. By examination, my
understanding of the underlying biology behind nature greatly increased, and likewise did my ability
to catch fish. However, many environmental factors influenced the ecosystem, inexplicably creating
great fishing one day but failure the next. In disbelief of my bad luck, I contended with explaining
such unpredictability in the ecosystem. After combining bathymetry, weather, and GPS data into a
geographic information system application , my next fishing trip was wildly successful. Ever since, I

Pulmonary Surfactant Lab Report
IIntroduction: The simple act of breathing as we know it, is not as simple as it seems. Breathing takes
numerous organs and requires a variety of complex operations to correctly occur. One of the most
unique factors of breathing is pulmonary surfactant. Pulmonary Surfactant is an oily fluid that is
composed of a mixture of lipids and protein molecules that coats the inner alveolar surface (McKinley,
2016). The internal surface of alveoli is moist, which makes it prone to collapsing because of its high
surface tension, pulmonary surfactant keeps the alveoli and lungs from collapsing (McKinley, 2016).
The importance of surfactant can be seen in the birth and development of pre mature babies born prior
to the 30th week of pregnancy. Around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Juvenile Arrests 2008
Data is collected by law enforcement agencies within the United States and submitted to the Federal
Bureau of Investigations for tracking purposes. These numbers are used by analysts at the FBI to
indicate trends in crime and to possibly develop alternative policing methods. A statistician can
manipulate numbers to show what they feel is relevant, but aside from just being numbers in a
spreadsheet it allows police forces to determine the trends within their respective communities.
According to Puzzanchera (2009) In 2008, law enforcement agencies in the United States made an
estimated 2.11 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As this figure shows that simple assault arrests are decreasing, it is still far higher than it should be.
Implications for Females and Minorities Using the data provided by Puzzanchera (2009), it is obvious
that female offenders are becoming more brazen in their ways. Whereas crime has been predominantly
a male dominated venue, females are staking a claim to their rights to enter the world of crime. This
change in roles is also noted in the adult arrest reports; female arrests have shown a slower decrease
than male arrests. Minorities are also affected by the statistics of the Uniform Crime Report. When
looking at minority arrests, the composition of the community really affects the numbers used. Overall
in the United States the racial compositions for juveniles according to Puzzanchera (2009) showed
that 78% of juveniles were white, 16% were black, 5% Asian, and only 1% Native American. These
figures can be severely misleading in that Hispanic juveniles are classified as white for these studies.
However, using these numbers and the reporting by agencies, violent crimes committed in 2008 were
done by 47% white youth, 52% black youth and a mere 1% were committed by Asian youth, leaving
the last 1% to have been committed by native American youth. As a result, black youth are more likely
to commit violent crimes and be entered into the juvenile justice system.

What Is The Effect Of Door-Holding Behavior On Door...
Introduction (half page max.) Method Participants Participants who were observed are students and
staffs in university of Toronto. Materials A sign with Be kind, hold the door was used in this
experiment to see the influence on the behaviour of participants. Procedure The whole experiment is
divided into three phrases. From first ten minutes, participants are observed in terms of door holding
behaviour. Then, the target behaviour(whether they hold the door) are recorded. In next 10 minutes, a
sign is used to examine the difference in frequency of the target behaviour. In last 10 minutes, the sign
is removed and the target behaviour is observed. Researchers need to observe participants without any
physical and verbal interference during the process. After data are collected, researchers need to use
statistical method to analyze it. Experimental Design DV IDV In this study, quasi experimental
method was used. The independent variable is the presence of the sign, and the dependent variable is

American Schools Failing Essay
How America s Schools Are Failing America s once revered schools are no longer the greatest in the
world. This may seem unbelievable to most, but the truth is, America no longer leads the world in
education. Schools are shutting down at an alarming rate, and it is easy to see why when one looks at
some of the many flaws in our educational system today. Upon examining the schools of America, one
can find a plethora of issues within the system. This is proved time and again when students graduate
high school unprepared for college, a lack of exposure to different cultures, and without basic life
skills. Students are breezing through the years of high school and receiving a rude awakening when
they graduate. The four short years of high school have an enormous affect on the next forty. So many
things such as GPA, ACT scores, clubs etc. can mean the difference in thousands of dollars of debt
from student loans or a free ride to college. The failure to prepare in high school directly impacts the
future of America s students. Some may say that America in all her greatness cannot possibly be
failing its students. Yes, America is a wonderful country and a land of opportunity; however, the truth
is our nation is ranked just 36th in the world compared to being 1st in the world 30 years ago.

1 ) The century following the civil war saw massive and unprecedented expansion in the reach and
interconnectivity between the federal government and American citizens. Starting with radical
reconstruction all the way up to the development of the New Right, the federal government reached
into civilian lives with new legislation that were direct reactions to social fears or conflicts. While
each act of expansion did alienate certain sects of the population, it was with this growth that the
federal government expanded freedom and democracy to the masses. The beginning of this century of

conservatism, eventually leading to the sweeping victory of Ronal Reagan in the 1980 election

gaining political validity which would increase their ability to influence the American way of life.

Life Changing Comprehensive Social Security Assistance
The life changing Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) In October, I just turn 18. In this
18 years, there are some events that have a great impact on me. Between those events, I think that
getting the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) from the Hong Kong government is the
one which really change my life. It effects my life in both positive and negative ways. As its name
implies, CSSA is a scheme to help the underclass and working poor. Under the scheme, the CSSA
recipients will get certain amount of payment from the government monthly. The amount varies based
on the age, household size and the health of the recipients. There are also supplement such as the
single parent Supplement and the residential care supplement to those in need. My family have
received the assistance since I was 8 years old. Before that, my father was an unlicensed itinerant
hawker who sold clothes in the streets as the government do not grant hawker licenses since 1970s.
My father went to work every early, at 3 am. Thus every time I woke up, he has gone. Being an
unlicensed hawker is tough in Hong Kong, they need to worry about if there are customers. However,
the most important thing is to avoid the hawker control teams. If they are found unlicensed by the
team, they will be sent to the court and fined. Moreover, all of their goods will be confiscated. The
income of my family was unstable at that time. It depends on whether my father was lucky or not. If

The First Law Passed By The Massachusetts Bay Colony
1. PAST LEGISLATION In the mid 1600 s, the first law passed by the Massachusetts Bay Colony
mandated that children start learning the fundamental of education; learn basic reading and writing by
reading the bible and the town s laws. It was believed that for the success and evolution of the world
and specifically their colony, children needed to be educated and knowledgeable. Furthermore, to
strengthen the educational foundation that was forming and with some resistance from parents, a law
was passed in 1647 commissioning the towns create and maintain public schools. Moving forward,
Smith Hughes Act of 1917 commissioned federal revenue to create and support of secondary and
postsecondary vocational training. Emphasis were placed on instruction in agriculture, home
economics, and trades and industry. This act along with the demand for change and other outlets for
education, open the doors for trades that prepared people for jobs. Legislation during this time
contended that this was the best step moving forward to focus on skills to ensure people were
workplace ready. Several years later in 1958, the National Defense Education Act contributed
additional federal dollars to the schools to raise awareness and to heighten the fundamental
importance and priority to focus on STEM. STEM provides instructions in Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math. During this time, emphasis was also placed on strengthening the foreign
languages and provided financial resources and support

James Prescott Joule, the eminent English physicist, is widely known for his scientific contributions.
However, I admire him for another reason as well: his ability to reconcile the role of science with that
of his Christian faith. Although he lived in a day where religion and science were often antagonistic,
he remained a man fully committed to both. His epitaph is from John 9:4: I must work the works of
him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. Although Catholicism is
relatively uncommon in China, I claim this faith, and share Joule s perspective that faith does not

Compared with chemical propulsion, it is much safer and more efficient due to jts lesser dependence
on propellants to produce the overall same effect. NASA actively propels the development of Solar
Electric Propulsion which is a strong sign that electric propulsion is definitely a promising research
direction. However, two main problems issues still needed to be solved. Firstly, most of electric
propulsion devices are designed for spacecraft; however, low amounts of electrical power are
available onboard. Secondly, electric thrusters work with small flows of propellants which result in
knockdown acceleration. Both of these could be solved by finding better alternative propellants or
coming up with innovative design methods. As one of the world leading technology institutions,
Princeton set up the Electric Propulsion and Plasma Dynamics Laboratory to focus on the lithium

efforts made to push its development, I wish I could have the opportunity to join the Mechanical and

The Importance Of School Break
When I hear one say, specifically Roman Hebel, With school out of the picture, I can be stress free and
happy it evokes many questions and stress inside. How does one s stress disappear simply due to
school being put on the back burner? Yes, most homework responsibilities are not of concern, but our
school break is only nine days. With nine days, I don t believe that all individuals including himself
are duty and completely worry free. I don t know about most people, but merely because school is put
on hold does not relieve all the worries in the back of my mind. Those issues will always be their
haunting me and producing stress until they are resolved, and trust me I do not want to deal with them
over a well deserved break. However, this is all just apart of life whether we attempt to enjoy the free
time given to us or not. With that being said, the short interruption with school does not create a stress
free environment where I am allowed to enjoy myself. Whether it s the last minute Christmas baking,
gift wrapping or a cramped work schedule, I do not categorize that as a way to enjoy my break as
Roman makes clear in his paper. I find pleasure in the easy aspects such as the hour long naps and
drinking a steaming cup of hot cocoa by the blazing fire. I only wish to be like Roman over the break
when he expresses, ...having less responsibilities... in his paper. Because frankly those pleasures are
not a reality for myself this Christmas break. I don t know

the story both tells a tale of a samurai who was found murdered in the woods. Both the story and film
investigates different versions of the incident told by four different characters including Tajomaru the
bandit, the samurai s wife, the samurai, and the woodcutter. Each of these characters tell four
completely different viewpoints of what happened to the samurai who was found murdered in the
woods to the commissioner but each with a little more detail than the previous storyteller. All but the
woodcutter s version had something in common. In each story, the storytellers claim that he or she was
the murderer. They all admitted that they murdered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tajomaru considered himself to be a proud warrior. In his version of the story, he admits that he
robbed and tied the samurai up, and then vehemently seduced the samurai s wife all because he
wanted the samurai s beautiful wife. If it wasn t for the wife none of this would ve took place. At first
it comes off as a rape because of the struggle Tajomaru was having but the samurai s wife eventually
gave in due to Tajomaru s masculine appeal. The samurai s wife couldn t bear the shame of given into
Tajomaru sexually so she says that either the bandit or her husband must die. So this led to her
husband and the bandit engaging in a deadly sword fight. Tajomaru ended up killing the samurai in the
fight. While the two men were fighting the samurai s wife disappeared away into the woods. Tajomaru
confessed to the crime and stated his motives but after reading and watching his story it still seemed as
if something was missing. The bandit made his crime to seem like more of a heroic and honorable act
rather just killing the samurai for a senseless reason by saying that the samurai died an honorable
death . This way the samurai will still retain his reputation as a proud, aggressive and masculine
warrior so he won t be viewed as a bad

Being a Good Leader in the Marines Essay
Being a Good Leader in the Marines In order to be a good leader, there are two things to remember.
Lead from the Front and always set the Example. From these two leadership principles, everything
else will fall into place. These are the words that have ended all of my counseling sheets with since I
began writing them as a Corporal and will continue to do as long as I counsel Marines. I was brought
up in the Marine Corps with this philosophy and have adopted it as my own. Leading from the front is
often times one of the leadership principles that is easier said by some than actually done. Those so
called leaders that would tell their Marines to do something that they would never really do
themselves. Coming in font of your Marines ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is harder to actually step down and listen to what another Marine may have to offer, especially as a
Leader . Plenty of times you will have to step up and say, No, this is not up to interpretation . Although
your base leadership philosophy should remain the same, you should be able to change your
leadership style. From the examples given in the book The Defense of Duffers Drift we see how the
leaders ability to read his men, allowed him to disseminate to each subsequent leader his intent.
Although the leader did not change his philosophy, he did change his style in order to relay the
mission in such a manner that the individual he was addressing was able to accomplish it. Although
the battle may not progress as planned, the mission always remains the same. As an individual Marine
from the rank of Lance Corporal and below, it is ultimately your responsibility to take care of yourself.
At the rank of Corporal and Sergeant you become more of a controller. For example, a fire team or
squad leader. Staff Sergeants of Marines, as I have come to realize are more like administrators at the
platoon level. And by administrator I mean several different things. From teaching a young Lieutenant
and mentoring the upcoming Non commissioned officers to holding Marines to all standards and
being able to follow through with the paper work. The Gunnery Sergeant and Master Sergeant billet is
where you learn the logistics of the organization. And the First

Examples Of Constructive Nature Of Memory
1.0 THE CONSTRUCTIVE NATURE OF MEMORY
1.1 DEFINITION
The constructive nature of memory holds that we use a variety of information such as perceptions,
beliefs and attitude to fill in gaps, and that the accuracy of our memory may be altered.
1.2 DISCUSSION
In this part, we will conclude what is constructive nature of memory and some of the examples of how
it works.
I. What is the Constructive Nature of Memory
Memory is never a literal recount of past experiences. Rather, it is dependent on the constructive
processes present at the time of encoding that are subject to potential errors and distortions.
Essentially, the constructive memory process functions by encoding the patterns of physical
characteristics that are perceived by the individual, as well as the interpretive conceptual and ... Show

The Examples on how the Constructive Nature of Memory works
A study by Addis et al in which participants were scanned while they were either remembering a past
experience or imagining an event that might occur in the future. Addis et al divided each of these tasks
into two phases. In the initial construction phase, participants generated either a remembered or an
imagined event in response to a cue word (example, dress ) and made a button press when they had an
event in mind, which typically required about 7 or 8 seconds. In the immediately following
elaboration phase, participants generated as much detail as possible about the remembered or
imagined event.
The most striking finding was that brain activity was highly similar during remembering the past and
imagining the future. This overlap was most apparent during the elaboration phase, when participants
focused on generating details about the remembered or imagined event. A core network of brain
regions that had previously been implicated in the retrieval of episodic memories, and has also been
linked to a variety of internally driven cognitive processes showed common activation during both
remembering and

Founded in 1969 by Donald Fisher and Doris Fisher, Gap Inc is largest clothing and accessories

The Issue Of The Fourteenth Amendment
The Fourteenth Amendment was ratified in 1868 and the amendment was put in place to protect
former slaves and their rights in life. The most important part of the amendment reads, No state shall
deprive a person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law; nor deny to any person... the
equal protection of the laws. This simple statement has one of the most profound and incredible parts
of the United States today. The equal protection of the laws show that there must be equal treatment
for all citizens regardless of race, class, or gender. Although there has been many racial events
happening after this amendment was passed this clause still stands to today and has helped shape the
United States for the better. Having this clause in the Fourteenth Amendment protects the little guy
and makes sure that everyone has the same ability to do whatever everyone else is doing. The book
states that The battle for civil rights generally includes seven stages. The group seeking rights must
define itself; it must challenge society and change the cultural story. The contest for the rights spills
across federalism; the executive branch can break the ice. Congress is the key to deep social change;
the courts are the final arbiters of civil rights. These seven stages are: 1) A group defines itself 2) The
group challenges society 3) The stories change 4) Federalism comes into play 5) The executive branch
often breaks the ice 6) Congress legislature a blockbuster 7) It all

The Effects Of Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation And...
Intrinsic or Extrinsic Motivation and Student Achievement
Rosa Elena Garza
Texas Tech University

Abstract
To examine the effects of rewards on intrinsic motivation for children in special education, a review of
research was conducted. Students who are intrinsically motivated, tend to experience school success
because they select challenging activities and spend more time on the task at hand. It can be very easy
to undermine intrinsic motivation by using rewards. This change in motivation then results in more
errors in the learning process as well as slower acquisition of skills.
Intrinsic or Extrinsic Motivation and Student Achievement
Students with learning disabilities are often extremely unmotivated. To them, school tends to be one
failure after another. This poor student achievement is usually due to an extreme lack of motivation. In
attempts to overcome this lack of motivation, rewards are offered. Many of us have heard, If only they
were more motivated, they would do so much better on test and get better grades when having
conversations about these individuals. The effect that is intended for the reward is often mistaken and
therefore it can have the opposite effect of what was originally intended. Children who lack intrinsic
motivation will get the wrong idea from receiving rewards. Sometimes when rewards are used, the
student will find ways to excel in the task more so then when the reward is not in place (Amabile and
Gitmore, 1984). Students with

My Food Allergies
Have you ever been offered a disgusting looking homemade meal by a loved one and you didn t know
how to turn it down because you didn t want to offend them? That s really unfortunate for you because
I m guessing you had to suffer through the horrid taste and finish the entire dish. But for me, I have a
secret answer so that I never have to eat anything I don t want. With one sentence containing one
magic word, I can turn down any nasty looking meal. Want to know what it is? Allergies. That is my
magic word. All I have to say is, I probably can t eat that because I have egg, peanut, and treenut
allergies but thank you so much for the thought! Just like that, I am safe from the horror with no blood
on my hands because the person who made the food is too scared that I could die if they feed it to me.
This is just one advantage of having an anaphylactic food allergy but I figured it was a useful tool to
share if you ever find yourself in that situation and need to use a quick white lie. I see my food
allergies as a positive in my life not only because of the excuses I can make with food, but because
they give me such a different mindset than everyone around me. My allergies are part of my identity
and part of what makes me, me. They have transformed me from feelings of insecurity to achieving
self actualization and owning my differences. If somebody didn t know that I had food allergies and
saw me living my daily life, they would be able to observe that I am a very hard

Percy Bysshe Shelley s Poem In Lift Not The Painted Veil
Lift not the painted veil , an 1818 sonnet by the British Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, depicts a
person who lifts the veil that covers the world, in order to find love. This act, however, plunges him
into a state of disorientation and forlornness, because it does not lead him to discover truth or love.
Therefore, the sonnet s first line is admonitory and even forbids us to lift the veil. By focussing on the
connotatively contrasting use of metaphors, this essay aims at demonstrating how Percy Bysshe
Shelley s sonnet Lift not the painted veil , despite its deceptive, seemingly admonitory first line,
encourages the individual to defy religion and to adopt atheism. In order to describe the world, the
lyrical subject uses dark and negative metaphors. He equates the world of ordinary life with ... Show

[italics mine] (6) The fact that Shelley compares religion, presumably Christianity, to a deceptive veil
substantially influences the interpretation of this sonnet, because the veil is then not only a symbol for
the world, but also functions as a metaphor for religion, implying that, like the veil, it conceals truths
and clouds people s minds. The fact that line 14 mentions a preacher who is unable to find truth
corroborates the assertion that religion is deceptive. Furthermore, as demonstrated in the above, the
veil literally and figuratively shrouds the world and its inhabitants in obscurity. As a result, religion
also becomes associated with darkness and pessimism, intimating that it has a depressing effect on the
world. Briefly, the negatively connotated metaphors with which life, or more precisely religion, is
described in the sonnet suggest a dissenting attitude with regard to religion, by relating it to

Teenage Delinquency
The way parents rear their children to be well law obeying individuals can be affected if the parents
are not using their authority figure in the correct manner. The way people parent their children can
have a correlating effect on that child having criminal tendencies. When a parent is not emotional or
physically present a child might turn to delinquency because he/she has no authority figure that has
shown them to be responsible. Bad parenting can be defined in multiple ways whether it be by
neglecting the child, physically abusing them, and by not disciplining the child appropriately etc.
These bad parenting tactics can be the cause of the youth delinquency.
The problem being targeting is whether the way parents raise their child has an impact on the child
being a delinquent. An individual s parents are the first type of authority figures a child has and if the
parents are not demonstrating respectable parenting skills or requiring appropriate behavior from the
child, the child has the possibility of rearing to delinquency. This problem is significant because
negative parenting skills increase the risk of setting a child off on a delinquent path that starts in their
early years and can continue far into adulthood. This problem is also important because if bad
parenting is leading the youth to crime one can target the problem to prevent delinquency. It is thus
important for the parents to evaluate their parenting skills and find resources to better their education

The blue seen in the movie suggests the truth of hero boy s thoughts, and confusion. Archetypally,
blue is contemplated as reserved and quiet, and doesn t like to make a fuss or draw attention (Color

doesn t draw attention to himself on the train and tries to stay low during the trip. However, the most

Gender Bias In The Early Greek Culture
Gender Bias in the Early Greek Culture
It s important to know that discrimination is the unjust treatment of a person or thing based on age,
race, and or sexual orientation (CITE THIS). Discrimination is seen throughout the world s history in
forms of slavery, social inequality, racial bias, and gender inequality. Unfortunately, women in history
also faced discrimination by not having much of the same rights as men did. More specifically, when
looking at the history of the Greeks, one can clearly point out gender inequality in everyday life, law,
and even literature.
Athenian women were the subjects of bias in day to day life. A women s property was controlled by
her father until she entered an arranged marriage, usually at the age of fourteen. Her husband would
then supervise her and that was because it was believed that a woman could not act independently (
PAGE NUMBER). If they left the house or attended court they were accompanied by a male. They
didn t receive formal educations and couldn t act in plays. Women essentially couldn t do anything.
Women were seen as inferior to men and therefore were treated like such. This idea bled into the belief
that women should do things at home while the man goes off to work. Men were taking advantage of
women by stripping them from any potential power by controlling every aspect of their lives.
Although it may seem odd that women did not fight for their rights, many of them feared the
consequences for not obeying her husband,

1937 Hindenburg Tragedy
Though the hydrogen is found abundantly in the nature but due to some of its properties has made
difficulties to handle it for the industrial use. Due to it lightest it is stored under pressure as a liquid

static friction between the metal (duralumin) and the fabric was the cause of the tragedy. This means

The common problem which researcher s faced was, they directly supplied the HHO gas in the
carburetor. This HHO gas enters the carburetor at a certain temperature and with some traces of water
in form of vapors. Both the outcome can be easily controlled by a simple unit. These problems are
caused by the heat generation due to reaction happening through the electrolysis process inside the
container. Some researchers have sprayed water to control the pre ignition but eventually was in vain.
There is one best solution to get rid from both of these problems which have a further effects on the
engine which are stated above. If the HHO gas is somehow cooled than the temperature would
decrease and water vapor would condense leaving only the gas at a low temperature and without water
vapors. This simple unit contains a bottle filled with water at a room temperature. This bottle is named
Bubbler in which HHO gas would enter from the top which is packed for any leakages then it will
reach till bottom making the gas at a lower temperature and condensing the gas. Only the pure HHO
gas bubbles make till top and further enters the carburetor through nonreturn valve. This simple

Persuasive Speech About Crafting
When people think of crafting, they think of craft fairs in small towns, of mothers and grandmothers
manning booths with hand sewn clothing for American Girl dolls and beeswax candles and hand

Thanks to the proliferation of do it yourself blogs on the internet and online interior design magazines,

many young people have taken up crafting, having figured out that making great gifts and things for

This year, instead of gifting store bought gifts, consider making things on your own. When you ve

The report has presented overwhelming statistical evidence to support this conclusion. BPD stops over
500 pedestrians per every 1,000 African Americans and only under 200 pedestrians for every 1,000
Caucasian Residents. A solution to this issue would be to have a diverse/variety of officers employed
under the Baltimore Police Department. Diversity should not merely be based on race but on the
background as well. BPD should only assign officers to work in a jurisdiction where they are familiar
with the residents and the demographics of the area. For example, if an area is 90% African American
and is known for high drug trafficking, an officer from a county with majority white residents and
only a discriminatory point of view on African Americans should not be assigned to work in this area.
It is important that officers familiarize themselves with the area they are policing because it will give
them a certain level of understanding and aid in determining how they should approach situations.
Also, officers should be able to honestly express when they are an assigned to an environment where
they do not feel comfortable. Keeping the lines of communication open between police officers and
administration is very important. Officers should be able to perform their duties in a comfortable

she was strangled to death. Besides the bruises on her neck that implied the strangulation, a garrote
was also found tied around her. Before JonBenét was found in the basement, her family found a

There are a few different reasons as to why we should all believe that is was Burke who murdered
JonBenét. One reason that her brother would have killed her was because of jealousy. After JonBenét
was born, all of the attention Burke used to get from his parents, especially his mom, went to JonBenét
instead. Patsy, Burke and JonBenét s mother, was a beauty queen in pageants, so she was really
excited to have a girl to enter into beauty pageants to be just like her. JonBenét was always getting her
mother s attention because they were always getting her ready for the next pageant. Whether it was
spending time doing makeup, hair, or getting new clothes, the time was not being spent with Burke,
which is all the more reason as to why he would have killed his sister. Being jealous is not the only
reason he would have killed her, though. In an interview, Judith Phillips, a Ramsey friend, talked
about how Burke had bad flashes of temper and would sometimes get angry easily (York). Maybe
JonBenét did something to upset Burke and he, in that moment, got angry with her and killed her. Not
only did Burke have a bad temper, but there was a previous encounter between Burke and JonBenét
about a year before her murder. Miss Phillips also claimed that the encounter involved Burke hitting
his sister in the face with a golf club, leaving a scar on her cheek. There were some pieces of evidence
that were found at the crime scene that would also lead someone to believe that it was her brother that
killed her. For example, not only did they find the garrote, but they also found a piece from a broken
wooden paint brush that had belonged to Patsy (Diamond). If the Ramsey family members were the
only ones in the house at the time that the crime was committed, the only answer to the murder would
be that it was someone from within their household. There is also reason to believe that it was her
brother who killed her because the autopsy revealed

Societal Stressors Essay
Societal stressors
Societal stressors are defined as factors that capture the discrimination and difficulties associated with
being undocumented, including the fear of deportation and possible separation from their kids
(Arbona et al., 2010; Perreria et al., 2006). When looking at the research done on acculturation, very
few studies looked specifically into societal factors affecting undocumented parents. The studies that
did look at societal stressors focused solely on discrimination and its effects on immigrants. Knowing
the English language for immigrants is not just about having the language skills, but also being
linguistically integrated into the U.S. since there are sets of social requirements, laws, and
propositions that enforce the acquisition of the dominant language (Leuck and Wilson, 2010). When
using the National Latin and Asian American Study (NLAAS), Leuck and Wilson (2010) found that
language acquisition is seen as an enforced civic duty. For immigrants, keeping their ethnic language

Symbolism and Sexism in Ibsen’s “a Doll’s House” Essays
ENGL 2337
April 15, 2010 Symbolism and Sexism in Ibsen s A Doll s House
Henrik Ibsen, the author of the controversial play A Doll s House said, There are two kinds of moral
laws, two kinds of conscience, one for men and one, quite different, for women. They don t
understand each other; but in practical life, woman is judged by masculine law, as though she weren t
a woman but a man...A woman cannot be herself in modern society. Isben created the plot of A Doll s
House from those ideas. Ibsen was viewed by his contemporaries as a moral and social revolutionary
who advocated female emancipation and intellectual freedom. He believed that freedom must come ...

Since Nora s father was dying, she was forced to forge his signature in order to secure a loan that
would eventually save her husband s life, which only led to more problems in the future because in
order for her to be able to repay the money she must lie about how she spends her household accounts
and also lie about taking odd jobs to earn extra money. Also, the way Torvald treats Nora in the play
depicts the way women were treated in the nineteenth century. For example, In Act I, Nora is little
more than a child playing a role. She is a doll occupying a doll s house, a child who has exchanged a
father for a husband without changing or maturing in any way. Torvald treats his wife literally like a
doll, calling her pet names and occasionally scolding her as if she were a child. His primary interests
are his new job as a bank manager and his social standing. When he learns that his wife is involved in
a legal problem that would embarrass him if it became known to the public, he reveals who he really
is. He comes off as a hypocrite preoccupied with his own welfare. Also, Torvald says that Nora is now
his property which is when Nora realizes she is much too good for him. Nora then decides to leave
because they have been married for eight years and has suffered enough injustice from both her father
and Torvald. Nora explains to Torvald that she has been merry, not happy, being with him. She
explained to him how

Collision Avoidance System Essay
Every year millions of people get in vehicular accidents that cause expensive repairs and sometimes
trauma for the drivers. While collision avoidance systems are very advanced and well developed, most
systems are too expensive for the average consumer. Our team s general mission is to reduce the
likelihood of car crashes by improving an aspect in the car that either keeps the driver more engaged
while driving or assisting the driver in various tasks such as stopping and lane changes. Along with the
general mission, our team has defined further parameters of our product in an attempt to narrow our
ideas down. We decided the product should be modular, third party, and affordable for the common
driver. We also wanted our product to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cars with built in systems are not without their faults. Other than their limited availability and high
cost, it is also rare to find a car that has all the features of collision avoidance systems available. Often
times car manufacturers will only offer the warning systems without the features that can actually
control a car independent of a driver. Also these systems do not guarantee that the vehicle will not get
into a crash even when the car can control its speed and tire position. Another problem is that the
system is directly integrated into the pieces of the car such as the bumper, mirrors, etc. which makes
repairs extremely expensive. When looking at potential demographics for our product, we found a
phone survey conducted Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, we found that 83% of parents would
not be willing to buy their child a brand new car. With that many parents buying used cars, a lot of
those teens will not have the luxurious access to built in car safety. To visualize how large the
difference is, here is a simple pie chart on the topic: Another factor that led us to focus on teen drivers
was a study in 2014, also conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, that stated that
48% of teenagers who died in a driving accident died in a car that was at least 11 years old. Seeing this
statistic made us realize that we wanted to develop a product that could be attached to cars that are not
only 11 years

Mate Selection In Asian-American Culture
A prompt literature review reveals the glaring cultural disparities between Asian and Western
societies. The Asian American community originates from Asia and thus first generation Asian
Americans mostly bear and abide to Asian norms and customs (Geary, 2004). These norms and
customs especially apply to the institution of marriage and processes that entail it such as mate
selection and preferences. Nevertheless, parental influence feature prominently in mate selection
practices across a majority of Asian American communities. This is through homogamy tendencies in
parents or long held familial traditions. Within families, the role of female members is especially
pivotal in determining the dating and marriage lives of family members. Falcon ... Show more content

The most important of factors in this practice are the preferences of those selecting mates. Mate
preferences have a scientific importance for several reasons. Mate preferences for instance determine
whoever is chosen or excluded. This therefore influences the current direction of sexual selection.
Mate preferences also determine which members of the opposite sex are high or low in value. In turn,
this influences various variables ranging from social status and desirability of the selected mate. The
mate preferences of one sex also conversely influence retention techniques effective on members of
the other gender. Such tactics substantiate the wants of the person, one is attempting to retain or
attract. Another importance of mate preferences is the fact that some of them might be adaptations that
might have psychologically developed over time. Such preferences represent crucial solutions to
fundamental mating challenges such as selecting a fertile mate or one able and willing to invest in an
offspring. The preferences of one s mate might also reveal crucial cultural values that when
interrogated over a certain period of time document the evolution of various cultural values (Chang,
2010). As such, mate preference is the first step in the process of mate selection which aptly
determines one s choice of a mate. As such, it is impossible to understand mate selection in a certain
population without understanding patterns in mate preferences. Mate preferences are especially
important in Asian cultures where they are traditionally passed on from one generation to the other. As
one grows older, the preferred mates by parents are passed on. As such, one eventually chooses a mate
who is more or less agreeable to the entire family. As such, it is imperative to approach and understand
the process of mate selection as an interactive process that is subject to disparate factors and
circumstances (Chang,

Bullying Rhymes
Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me . This is one of the English
language children s rhymes. It encourages children to ignore verbal insults, persuading them to stay
calm and to not retaliate. The literal translation of this seems to be: You can say what you want, you
can insult me verbally as much as you want. Words does not matter to me. I will go over it and I will
forget. I will stay calm to show how strong I am . This is not as simple as it appears to be.
These few simple words became so significant that I decided to use them as an introduction to the
problem that this essay will be talking about, namely bullying. According to the definition, bullying is
the use of force, threat, or coercion to abuse, intimidate, or aggressively dominate others. There are
four different types of bullying including physical, verbal, emotional and cyber bullying. This essay
will mainly focus on the verbal bullying that, despite the implication of the rhyme mentioned at the
beginning of the introduction, causes a significant impact on individuals sanity and plays the huge role
in shaping individuals personalities. Additionally, there is a big connection between children who are
bullied and their suicidal thoughts. This is one of the most significant problems that exists among
teenagers in American schools. In order to have a better understanding of the poem it is worthed to
look at the social context in which the poem was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Evaluating The Relationship Between Logical Advertising...
Evaluating the Relationship between Logical Advertising Appeals, Consumers Cognitive Information
Processing Styles, and Advertising Effectiveness
In the present competitive era, all company communicators seek to put some information in their
contacts or customers mind that affect their decision to purchase. Companies efforts to create attention
to their messages on the one hand and the increasing advertising messages, on the other hand, have
created a significant paradox in the field of advertising. In such circumstances, the advertiser may
spend many costs without reaching the target without the necessary ensuring of their ads effectiveness.
Therefore, the importance of this research is what all have believed today. The purpose of this research
is to evaluate and explain the relationship between the logical advertising appeals, consumer cognitive
information processing styles, and advertising effectiveness. The present study is applied in terms of
the purpose, and descriptive and correlational in terms of data collection. The required data were
collected using inventory and distributing it among 133 students. SPSS and LISREL software are used
to analyze the data. The results showed that advertising appeal has a direct and positive impact on the
logical process style and the effectiveness of advertising. The hypothesis of the effectiveness of logical
processing style on advertising effectiveness is rejected. Thus, advertising companies should conduct
their marketing

recent years. This paper shows Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor in Hybrid electrical vehicle is
proposed by an interface of boost converter, interleaved converter and inverter as an integrated circuit.
An inverter/converter circuit is designed in such a way so as to operate or control the HEV during
different modes of operation. The integrated circuit in HEV will operate as a boost converter or
interleaved converter depending on the load condition. The proposed integrated circuit will reduce the
current ripple and voltage ripple hence it will leads to reduction in switching, conduction losses, and
thermal stress on the motor. The effectiveness of proposed integrated circuit is simulated in MATLAB/
Simulink. The simulation shows that the integrated circuit have a high efficiency and can be used at
high power application. Keywords boost converter; interleaved converter; ripple I. INTRODUCTION

Hg Wells Research Paper
H.G. Wells
H.G. Wells, the Father of science fiction, was a liberal thinker who set the literary world ablaze with
his sheer creativity. He gave form to many of the ideas of the future, and a chaotic family life shaped
him. H.G. Wells was a man of many influences, who impacted the people of his time, and left a legacy
that remains today. He grew up to be the enigmatic man he was because of his family. H.G. Wells
grew up in the lower middle class under constant threat of poverty (brittania.com,). His father owned a
hardware store, but more money came in from his cricket playing. Incidentally, his mother appeared to
do all work in his family. He had two older brothers. Marriage came with its own influences He

Surprisingly, his first published book was a Textbook of Biology. His first novel, The Time Machine,
was met with immediate success. The Wonderful Visit, The Island of Doctor Moreau, and The War of
the Worlds quickly followed it. Wells also wrote numerous essays and articles at the time.
Unfortunately, he did not stick with science fiction, instead choosing to write comic novels of the
lower middle class. Not only did he write about the future; he also made several correct predictions.
H.G. Wells is sometimes known as the father of futurism (biography.com). He managed to predict
World War II (biography.com). He also predicted the tank, military aircraft, and the atomic bomb
(biography.com). The modern idea of a Martian comes from The War of the Worlds. H.G. Wells was a
man who pushed the limits of imagination. From a poorly educated boy to one of the greatest authors
of all time truly is a truly astounding change. Influenced by his surroundings, he created worlds unto
himself. He truly shaped the ideas the future and left those who knew him in awe.

  • 2. Environmental Burden Of Coal Fired Power Plants Essay Introduction : New techniques reduce the environmental burden of coal fired power plants and allow higher efficiencies with a better conversion of heat to electrical energy In the discussion concerning available energy carriers this is interesting to notice, since coal reserves can provide enough energy for another estimated 150 200 years. This is a much longer period than is calculated for the proven oil and gas reserves and is a factor that cannot be ignored in global energy discussions. The new techniques make power plants more complex and therefore safety should get extra attention in design and construction. Conventional power plants are designed conform standard guidelines developed in close harmony between companies, notified bodies and authorities. Safety has always been an implicit component of design and standard routines. With the introduction of extra complexity this is no longer sufficient and other methods that are already common practice in the petrochemical industry should be and are already introduced to secure overall safety. Research Problem : The main direction of activities of this complex consists in creation of basic and welding materials and processes which provide manufacturing of the main equipment of nuclear power plants. The work in this field commenced practically at the same time when the first nuclear power objects were being put into operation in the country and developed along with this branch of engineering. Studley Theatre at 8 pm. It was an impressive student spring concert series performed by the students from our college. Although the concert was not performed as the professional concerts held in famous places, it was great opportunity for the campus community to listen that kind of musical activity. I have attended the same Jazz Ensemble concert in the previous spring semester because one of my friends from Turkey was playing saxophone during the performance like he did in this performance. The Jazz Ensemble was composed of eleven students and they played different music during the concert. They played music based on classic jazz pieces and some of the pieces were familiar to me because I remember them from my past experience. The instruments were regular for a jazz band, however, I have never take attention before, so, listening these different instruments voices in a very harmonized way was amazing. There was a trumpet player, two vocals, electric and acoustic guitarists, saxophone players, electric and double bass players and a drum player in the band. ... • 4. Universal Basic Income (UBI) Alternatives The great paradox of our time is that productivity has never been higher and technology is developing faster than ever before, but real wages and labor force participation have declined. If we accept the notion that individuals have a moral, societal, and economic obligation to society to work, then whose responsibility is it in society to ensure that adequate work exists for individuals? As hard as it may be, the first thing for workers and politicians to do is to accept the reality of our time that no matter how hard one works, jobs have been lost much more to technology than to international trade, and are never coming back. Since it is unclear whether or not new jobs will be created in their wake, rather than trying to protect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, similar to Universal Basic Income, it too would go against the basic instincts of the Protestant work ethic, in that it would decouple money and work by giving money to everyone. Perplexingly, those who do not work but otherwise receive a passive income through their investments are not viewed as lazy. Rather, they are rewarded with capital gains taxes that are lower than income taxes. This is a direct contradiction of the essence of the Protestant work ethic. With regard to educational inequality, one argument is to revamp science and technology education and teach computer science and coding from an early age. On the other hand, as technological change continues to accelerate, those skills may be obsolete by the time a student enters the workforce. Another camp of experts is arguing for a greater emphasis on lifelong learning, and traits like creativity and social intelligence, which Frey and Osborne found are less susceptible to ... • 5. Improving The Standard And Effectiveness Of Education ABSTRACT Over the years, educators have laid emphasis on understanding factors that contribute to improving the standard and effectiveness of education in impoverished neighborhoods. A lot of studies have aimed to ascertain the benefits that various safety network programs have for at risk children living in poverty stricken areas of the country. This paper seeks to highlight the host of elements that have a positive bearing on the academic outcome of children belonging to the poverty stricken counties in the state of Ohio. The research will employ a qualitative method design and involve using semi structured interviews, observations and archival data to explore the teaching methodologies and administrative measures that play a role in improving the effectiveness of schools in areas affected by poverty. The paper is designed to provide insight regarding the adverse effects that poverty has on education and what could be done to remedy the situation, by addressing three distinct research questions. Firstly it asks the question about what factors have a detrimental impact on the educational outcome of high poverty states in the country. Secondly it seeks to determine how such factors serve as barriers in the way of development for children belonging to less affluent families. Lastly, the paper looks into that question of what administrative measures can be taken in order to effect a positive change in the educational outcomes of children belonging to less affluent counties in ... • 7. The Effects Of Transportation In The Rocky Horror Picture... Have you ever been so engrossed in a movie that you felt like you were one of the characters? Star Wars fans are a prime example of this phenomenon. Many fans flock to the theater wearing costumes. Another example that may help identify transportation is the audience participation in the movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Fans would not only dress as one of the characters, but they would interact with props while the moving was being played. Being so engaged in a movie makes one feel as if they have been transported into the place they are watching. According to the article, Transportation Across Media: Repeated Exposure to Print and Film, Transportation has three main components: cognitive engagement, emotional engagement, and mental imagery. The self report transportation scale includes items tapping each of these dimensions, but prior research with the scale suggests that all three aspects combine to produce transportation effects (Green Brock, 2000). (Media Psychology, 2008) The idea of one being able to feel as if they are transported into another world may seem absurd to some, but the reality is we all enjoy movies because it somehow sends our minds to another world for a short time. It helps us temporarily forget our daily stressors. Need for cognition is the tendency to enjoy and engage in effortful cognitive activity (Cacioppo Petty, 1982). The internal surface of alveoli is moist, which makes it prone to collapsing because of its high surface tension, pulmonary surfactant keeps the alveoli and lungs from collapsing (McKinley, 2016). These numbers are used by analysts at the FBI to indicate trends in crime and to possibly develop alternative policing methods. A statistician can manipulate numbers to show what they feel is relevant, but aside from just being numbers in a spreadsheet it allows police forces to determine the trends within their respective communities. As this figure shows that simple assault arrests are decreasing, it is still far higher than it should be. Implications for Females and Minorities Using the data provided by Puzzanchera (2009), it is obvious that female offenders are becoming more brazen in their ways. Whereas crime has been predominantly a male dominated venue, females are staking a claim to their rights to enter the world of crime. This change in roles is also noted in the adult arrest reports; female arrests have shown a slower decrease than male arrests. Minorities are also affected by the statistics of the Uniform Crime Report. When looking at minority arrests, the composition of the community really affects the numbers used. Overall in the United States the racial compositions for juveniles according to Puzzanchera (2009) showed that 78% of juveniles were white, 16% were black, 5% Asian, and only 1% Native American. These figures can be severely misleading in that Hispanic juveniles are classified as white for these studies. However, using these numbers and the reporting by agencies, violent crimes committed in 2008 were done by 47% white youth, 52% black youth and a mere 1% were committed by Asian youth, leaving the last 1% to have been committed by native American youth. As a result, black youth are more likely to commit violent crimes and be entered into the juvenile justice system. • 27. The Issue Of The Fourteenth Amendment The Fourteenth Amendment was ratified in 1868 and the amendment was put in place to protect former slaves and their rights in life. The most important part of the amendment reads, No state shall deprive a person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law; nor deny to any person... the equal protection of the laws. This simple statement has one of the most profound and incredible parts of the United States today. The equal protection of the laws show that there must be equal treatment for all citizens regardless of race, class, or gender. Although there has been many racial events happening after this amendment was passed this clause still stands to today and has helped shape the United States for the better. Having this clause in the Fourteenth Amendment protects the little guy and makes sure that everyone has the same ability to do whatever everyone else is doing. The book states that The battle for civil rights generally includes seven stages. The group seeking rights must define itself; it must challenge society and change the cultural story. The contest for the rights spills across federalism; the executive branch can break the ice. Congress is the key to deep social change; the courts are the final arbiters of civil rights. These seven stages are: 1) A group defines itself 2) The group challenges society 3) The stories change 4) Federalism comes into play 5) The executive branch often breaks the ice 6) Congress legislature a blockbuster 7) It all ... • 28. The Effects Of Intrinsic And Extrinsic Motivation And... Intrinsic or Extrinsic Motivation and Student Achievement Rosa Elena Garza Texas Tech University EPSY 5379 Abstract To examine the effects of rewards on intrinsic motivation for children in special education, a review of research was conducted. Students who are intrinsically motivated, tend to experience school success because they select challenging activities and spend more time on the task at hand. It can be very easy to undermine intrinsic motivation by using rewards. This change in motivation then results in more errors in the learning process as well as slower acquisition of skills. Intrinsic or Extrinsic Motivation and Student Achievement Students with learning disabilities are often extremely unmotivated. To them, school tends to be one failure after another. This poor student achievement is usually due to an extreme lack of motivation. In attempts to overcome this lack of motivation, rewards are offered. Many of us have heard, If only they were more motivated, they would do so much better on test and get better grades when having conversations about these individuals. The effect that is intended for the reward is often mistaken and therefore it can have the opposite effect of what was originally intended. Children who lack intrinsic motivation will get the wrong idea from receiving rewards. Sometimes when rewards are used, the student will find ways to excel in the task more so then when the reward is not in place (Amabile and Gitmore, 1984). Students with ... That s really unfortunate for you because I m guessing you had to suffer through the horrid taste and finish the entire dish. But for me, I have a secret answer so that I never have to eat anything I don t want. With one sentence containing one magic word, I can turn down any nasty looking meal. Want to know what it is? Allergies. That is my magic word. All I have to say is, I probably can t eat that because I have egg, peanut, and treenut allergies but thank you so much for the thought! Just like that, I am safe from the horror with no blood on my hands because the person who made the food is too scared that I could die if they feed it to me. This is just one advantage of having an anaphylactic food allergy but I figured it was a useful tool to share if you ever find yourself in that situation and need to use a quick white lie. I see my food allergies as a positive in my life not only because of the excuses I can make with food, but because they give me such a different mindset than everyone around me. My allergies are part of my identity and part of what makes me, me. They have transformed me from feelings of insecurity to achieving self actualization and owning my differences. • 31. Percy Bysshe Shelley s Poem In Lift Not The Painted Veil Lift not the painted veil , an 1818 sonnet by the British Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, depicts a person who lifts the veil that covers the world, in order to find love. This act, however, plunges him into a state of disorientation and forlornness, because it does not lead him to discover truth or love. Therefore, the sonnet s first line is admonitory and even forbids us to lift the veil. By focussing on the connotatively contrasting use of metaphors, this essay aims at demonstrating how Percy Bysshe Shelley s sonnet Lift not the painted veil , despite its deceptive, seemingly admonitory first line, encourages the individual to defy religion and to adopt atheism. In order to describe the world, the lyrical subject uses dark and negative metaphors. He equates the world of ordinary life with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [italics mine] (6) The fact that Shelley compares religion, presumably Christianity, to a deceptive veil substantially influences the interpretation of this sonnet, because the veil is then not only a symbol for the world, but also functions as a metaphor for religion, implying that, like the veil, it conceals truths and clouds people s minds. The fact that line 14 mentions a preacher who is unable to find truth corroborates the assertion that religion is deceptive. Furthermore, as demonstrated in the above, the veil literally and figuratively shrouds the world and its inhabitants in obscurity. As a result, religion also becomes associated with darkness and pessimism, intimating that it has a depressing effect on the world. Briefly, the negatively connotated metaphors with which life, or more precisely religion, is described in the sonnet suggest a dissenting attitude with regard to religion, by relating it to ... The way people parent their children can have a correlating effect on that child having criminal tendencies. When a parent is not emotional or physically present a child might turn to delinquency because he/she has no authority figure that has shown them to be responsible. Bad parenting can be defined in multiple ways whether it be by neglecting the child, physically abusing them, and by not disciplining the child appropriately etc. These bad parenting tactics can be the cause of the youth delinquency. The problem being targeting is whether the way parents raise their child has an impact on the child being a delinquent. An individual s parents are the first type of authority figures a child has and if the parents are not demonstrating respectable parenting skills or requiring appropriate behavior from the child, the child has the possibility of rearing to delinquency. This problem is significant because negative parenting skills increase the risk of setting a child off on a delinquent path that starts in their early years and can continue far into adulthood. This problem is also important because if bad parenting is leading the youth to crime one can target the problem to prevent delinquency. It is thus important for the parents to evaluate their parenting skills and find resources to better their education and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Gender Bias In The Early Greek Culture Gender Bias in the Early Greek Culture It s important to know that discrimination is the unjust treatment of a person or thing based on age, race, and or sexual orientation (CITE THIS). Discrimination is seen throughout the world s history in forms of slavery, social inequality, racial bias, and gender inequality. Unfortunately, women in history also faced discrimination by not having much of the same rights as men did. More specifically, when looking at the history of the Greeks, one can clearly point out gender inequality in everyday life, law, and even literature. Athenian women were the subjects of bias in day to day life. A women s property was controlled by her father until she entered an arranged marriage, usually at the age of fourteen. Her husband would then supervise her and that was because it was believed that a woman could not act independently ( PAGE NUMBER). If they left the house or attended court they were accompanied by a male. They didn t receive formal educations and couldn t act in plays. Women essentially couldn t do anything. Women were seen as inferior to men and therefore were treated like such. This idea bled into the belief that women should do things at home while the man goes off to work. Men were taking advantage of women by stripping them from any potential power by controlling every aspect of their lives. There are a few different reasons as to why we should all believe that is was Burke who murdered JonBenét. One reason that her brother would have killed her was because of jealousy. After JonBenét was born, all of the attention Burke used to get from his parents, especially his mom, went to JonBenét instead. Patsy, Burke and JonBenét s mother, was a beauty queen in pageants, so she was really excited to have a girl to enter into beauty pageants to be just like her. JonBenét was always getting her mother s attention because they were always getting her ready for the next pageant. Whether it was spending time doing makeup, hair, or getting new clothes, the time was not being spent with Burke, which is all the more reason as to why he would have killed his sister. Being jealous is not the only reason he would have killed her, though. In an interview, Judith Phillips, a Ramsey friend, talked about how Burke had bad flashes of temper and would sometimes get angry easily (York). Maybe JonBenét did something to upset Burke and he, in that moment, got angry with her and killed her. Not only did Burke have a bad temper, but there was a previous encounter between Burke and JonBenét about a year before her murder. Miss Phillips also claimed that the encounter involved Burke hitting his sister in the face with a golf club, leaving a scar on her cheek. There were some pieces of evidence that were found at the crime scene that would also lead someone to believe that it was her brother that killed her. For example, not only did they find the garrote, but they also found a piece from a broken wooden paint brush that had belonged to Patsy (Diamond). When looking at the research done on acculturation, very few studies looked specifically into societal factors affecting undocumented parents. The studies that did look at societal stressors focused solely on discrimination and its effects on immigrants. Knowing the English language for immigrants is not just about having the language skills, but also being linguistically integrated into the U.S. since there are sets of social requirements, laws, and propositions that enforce the acquisition of the dominant language (Leuck and Wilson, 2010). When using the National Latin and Asian American Study (NLAAS), Leuck and Wilson (2010) found that language acquisition is seen as an enforced civic duty. The most important of factors in this practice are the preferences of those selecting mates. Mate preferences have a scientific importance for several reasons. Mate preferences for instance determine whoever is chosen or excluded. This therefore influences the current direction of sexual selection. Mate preferences also determine which members of the opposite sex are high or low in value. In turn, this influences various variables ranging from social status and desirability of the selected mate. The mate preferences of one sex also conversely influence retention techniques effective on members of the other gender. Such tactics substantiate the wants of the person, one is attempting to retain or attract. Another importance of mate preferences is the fact that some of them might be adaptations that might have psychologically developed over time. Such preferences represent crucial solutions to fundamental mating challenges such as selecting a fertile mate or one able and willing to invest in an offspring. The preferences of one s mate might also reveal crucial cultural values that when interrogated over a certain period of time document the evolution of various cultural values (Chang, 2010). As such, mate preference is the first step in the process of mate selection which aptly determines one s choice of a mate. As such, it is impossible to understand mate selection in a certain population without understanding patterns in mate preferences. Mate preferences are especially important in Asian cultures where they are traditionally passed on from one generation to the other. As one grows older, the preferred mates by parents are passed on. As such, one eventually chooses a mate who is more or less agreeable to the entire family. As such, it is imperative to approach and understand the process of mate selection as an interactive process that is subject to disparate factors and circumstances (Chang, ...
