The Debate Of Corruption Versus Free Speech
The idea of money in politics has always been a polarizing issue. For over one hundred years the
discussion of individuals and corporations financing campaigns has led to a debate of corruption
versus free speech. Is money in politics a corrupting influence that always leads to quid pro quo? Or,
is it an issue of allowing individuals to use their money as an extension of their freedom of speech?
Recently, campaign finance reform has been a very dynamic issue. With the last major supreme court
case Citizens United v. FEC, money in politics has taken a significant turn from the status quo. With
only seven years after the Citizens United ruling we can already see the effects of less regulated free
speech in politics. Campaign finance reform ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another aspect of FECA was to limit hard money. The philosophy behind this was to restrict the
amount of money one individual could give directly to a PAC so they would not have too much
influence in the outcome of an election. As a reaction, the PACs started investing into media outlets
and began creating commercials. By doing this PACs were able to maintain their influence while still
obeying the campaign laws (Hughes 4:30 5:00). To combat too much political influence from
advertising, the federal government passed a law called the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA)
or as it s more commonly known, the McCain Feingold Act. The BCRA sought to expand disclosure
on soft money and changed some limits on hard money. The key piece of this legislation is the
electioneering communications statute, or section 203. This piece of BCRA was intended to limit the
influence of PACs by restricting their ability to air advertisements right before elections. McCain
Feingold prevented corporations and PACs from showing political commercials sixty days before an
election and thirty days before a primary (FEC BCRA 90). Citizens United is a conservative non profit
group that sought to challenge Michael Moore s movie Ferienheit 9/11 through section 203 of the
McCain Feingold Act. Citizens United called into question Moore s movie citing the motive behind
the film was to advocate the defeat of President Bush and that it was

General Biography Of Carl Gustav Jung
General Biography Carl Gustav Jung was born on July 26, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland, to the
parents of Paul Achilles Jung and Emile Preiswerk. His father was a rural pastor while his mother
suffered from depression and claimed to see spirits at night. This strained Jung s relationship with her
and therefore shaped his attitude toward women in general. Carl Jung was the youngest of four
children, but he was the only one who survived. He suffered from multiple personality disorder, and
was a very sad, lonely, and isolated child. In 1895, Carl Jung enrolled to the University of Basel to
study science and medicine. He graduated in 1900 with a medical degree. He then did an internship
under Eugen Bleuler at the Burgholzli Psychiatric clinic in Zurich. Jung studied the unconscious mind
during this internship. In 1902, he received his Ph.D. at the University of Zurich with a doctoral
dissertation On the Psychology and Pathology of So Called Occult Phenomena (Cowgil, 1997). Carl
Jung married Emma Rauschenberg in 1903 and they had four daughters and one son together. He did
not give any affection to his children and they were not allowed to hug or kiss him, they were only
allowed to shake hands (Schultz Schultz, 2016). Carl Jung was not faithful to his wife Emma
Rauschenberg because he had multiple affairs throughout their marriage.
They welcomed their first daughter, Agathe, into the world on December 28, 1904. Jung was then
offered a faculty job for psychiatry at the University of Zurich in 1905. He had read, The
Interpretation of Dreams, written by Sigmund Freud and enjoyed his work so much that he began to
write him letters in 1906. One year later Jung and Freud finally met. On February 8, 1906, Jung had
his second daughter, Gret. A couple of years later, he had his only son, Franz, on November 28, 1908.
In 1909, Jung started a private practice of psychoanalysis in Kuessnacht, this practice was kept up and
ran until Jung died. Carl Jung had his third daughter, Marianne, on September 20, 1910. In 1911, Jung
obtained the first president of the International Psychoanalytic association. He started to Lecture at
Fordham University in 1912. A year later, Carl Jung resigned from being the president of the

Human Genetic Engineering Essay
Genetic engineering is a practice commonly used in food to produce yields of superior size or quality.
Recently this technology has been tested on humans. The human race will now be able to improve
upon itself and their offspring. With this technology disease can be disposed of and normal people can
become better than average. Not all technology needs to be utilized. Genetic engineering that should
not be used in humans unless done to prevent or treat disease until it is fully understood since the
consequences are undetermined and potentially devastating. Human genetic engineering, HGE, is a
new technology been incorporated into modern science where the genes or more specifically DNA are
manipulated within a living person or zygote. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Preventing sickness is not wrong. The issue occurs when one tries to, as Sandel claims, reach beyond
health or above the norm ( The Case Against ). Pills and other devices have done this. For example,
David King, a professor at Harvard, recollects when human growth hormone was marketed towards
people with hormone deficiencies. Now it is prescribed to normal short children (39). Surgery was
also originally used for medical uses, but cosmetic surgery is now its own field. When HGE becomes
affordable and safe the public will find use.
Clapper explains germline changes the genes in eggs or sperm ( Human Genetic ). This will modify
any future children. Mitochondrial transfer, a form of germline engineering, is now possible allowing
for three genetically linked parents to a child. Wynne Parry, LiveScience contributor, describes that it
replaces faulty mitochondria with healthy ones from a third party ( Designing Life ) riding the child of
mitochondrial diseases from the mother due to old age during pregnancy.
Germline engineering will satisfy few people who have infertility and do not want to use other
methods. Parents can have the same bond between another being without conceiving a child. There is
adoption, but some do not do this since the child will not be genetically linked to them. Clapper
mentions that gamete and embryo donation, or pre implantation diagnosis and selection can be used (
Human Genetic ). The latter allows for both parents to be related

George Gascoigne s For That He Looked Not Upon Her
For That He Looked Not Upon Her is a poem written by 16th century poet George Gascoigne. In the
poem, Gascoigne uses sonnet form to organize his work. Next, he uses strong diction to help convey
the attitude of the speaker. Finally, Gascoigne uses imagery to bring the words to life through vivid
analogies. Gascoigne effectively uses form, strong diction, and active imagery to develop the complex
tone of the speaker. Gascoigne uses form to develop the complex attitude of the speaker. This poem
takes the form of a Shakespearean Sonnet. Because of the form he chooses to use, this poem can be
broken into three quatrains with a couplet to end the poem. In each of the quatrains, Gascoigne depicts
a different tone, which adds to the complexity of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the second and third quatrains, the speaker uses analogies to describe why he wouldn t return to his
lover. In each of the analogies, Gascoigne uses an animal longing for their object of desire. In the first
second quatrain, it is a mouse that doesn t not fall for the same trap it once escaped from. In the third
quatrain, it is the fly that will not be scorched by the same flame twice. In both analogies, the subjects
escape from a dangerous conflict, only to want to return to that conflict again, as the desire is one that
the subject needs to survive. By using this type of application to show the speaker s conflict, the
speaker better shows and develops their attitude towards the main subject of the poem. The imagery in
these analogies helps to create the complex attitude of the speaker because by using the analogy, the
reader is able to connect the speaker s feelings to a real life situation. The audience is able to better
understand the scenario because the author compared it to an everyday scenario that can be easily
pictured. Gascoigne skillfully uses imagery in the form of analogies to convey the complex attitude of

Transferability Skills Analysis
In determining employability, one must determine and consider a person s current occupational
profile, which includes their functional abilities, education, aptitudes, work experience and
transferable skills.
Just because two individuals have an identical impairment does not necessarily equate to them both
becoming work disabled. One may not be work disabled based upon her/her occupational profile.
Vocational Rehabilitation Specialists (VRS) are qualified to use work samples and standardized
testing tools, as well as to interpret physical/functional capacity information and the National
Occupational Classification Career Handbook as it pertains to the world of work. Testing materials
VRS are qualified to use (if required), usually include: general aptitude for learning, academic
abilities, vocational interest, work style and other aptitudinal profiles. The transferable skills analysis
is a very important process that can determine a person s adjusted occupational profile based upon
past performance and achievement. The evaluation process also includes determining vocational
opportunities that are in keeping with the person s occupational profile including ... Show more

The Rise Of Asian Civilizations
Do you feel that Asian Civilizations from 1500 to 1700 veered towards modernity or careened back
toward traditional culture? From the 16th to 18th century, the prominent Asian Civilizations were the
Mughal Empire, the Ming Dynasty of China and the Edo Period of Japan. There was an obvious trend
that these empires leaned toward traditional culture mainly because of political influences. Although
there were also several aspects of each society such as the more important role of women in the
Mughal Empire, the interactions of the Jesuits with China and Japan that might be indicative of
modernity or act as a precursor to modern values, the reversion of traditional culture in each
civilization is so much greater that it outweighed the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, farming lands were reclaimed, campaigns of reforestation were initiated, roads and
canals were paved and dug, and irrigation and flood prevention measures were constructed. Instead of
focusing on trading and commercialism like their previous Mongolian rulers, the Ming reverted back
to the traditional Chinese agrarian society. At around the 16th Century, the Edo Period began in Japan,
marked by the ruling of the Tokugawa Ieyasu over Daimyos, or feudal lords. Because of his military
strength, the Shogun was able to help restore the Imperial rule to its former glory by granting lands to
the royal family and creating a system that emulates tradition, installing the Emperor as the head of
Japan, when in reality it is but a figurehead. However, at least it is ceremonially important and is
considered upholding of traditional values. The Shogun also banned Japanese from traveling abroad as
well as completely isolating Japan from the rest of the world after several disputes with Europeans and
their Jesuits. This is why Japan remained largely uninfluenced by modern Western Ideals until the 18th
century. Another noteworthy example of traditionalism in these civilizations is the presence of a strong
caste system within their society. In the Mughal Empire, the caste system of the Indians which make
up the most of the population was still in effect at that time.

How Did The United States Build The Erie Canal
America s Great Canal: The Erie Canal During the 1800 s there was no clear passage to take from
New York to the American west. This created an issue as the expense to transport goods such as wheat
and flour would be a costly amount of approximately $100 per ton. Due to the Appalachian Mountains
New York was secluded from much of western America. The Canal took approximately nine years to
be completed, despite funding issues that were presented the canal proved to be an expense well made.
The Erie Canal (Clinton s Ditch) was a project known to be doubted upon by political figures, yet
despite political opposes to the idea, the result of the canal was noted to be America s greatest
engineering achievement of its time, as the increase of economic prosperity arose in New York
because of the canal, alongside popularity for the regions that surrounded the canal; the canal proved
to be a success. The idea to construct a canal was continuously declined by the federal government,
despite s the benefits that the canal would bring, for this reason New York decided the fund the project
on its own. It was important to recognize that New York needed a passage which would make
transportation of goods cost efficient. It was also important to make a means for transportation that
would put New York as a place for business since it is the only way that states at the time would grow
and prosper. The problem although resided on the overall cost to make a canal. It was proposed that

Marcom Tactics for Gatorade G2
INTRODUCTION
The US sports drinks market is highly competitive. It accounts for the highest worldwide sports drink
consumption. A sports drink is a deviation of an energy drink which aims at rehydration, sports
performance and muscle recovery. The major players in this US market are Gatorade by PepsiCo amp;
PowerAde by Coca Cola.
Gatorade
Gatorade is accepted as the market leader of US sports drink market with nearly 75% market share as
at 2008 (Sports Business Daily, 23 July 2009). The study analyses the marketing mix of Gatorade in

* Advertising
The advertising activities of G2 are two fold, online and offline. The objective of their advertising
strategy is to increase awareness of benefits of G2 and reinforce that idea with an aim of
differentiating the products and persuading customers towards purchase.
Offline advertising
Gatorade used Float commercials, which features sportsmen and women such as NBA s Dwayne
Wade and gymnast Chellsie Memmel. The advertising repeats Mohammed Ali s Quote Float like a
butterfly and sting like a bee which supports the brand slogan in a way that floating portrays lightness
in calories and sting like a bee portrays the ability to accurately hit performance targets. By employing
high repetitions of advertisements during sports events such as Super bowl, the most watched event in
US TV, they ensure high exposure to their brand thereby increasing awareness amp; recall of G2.
Their print advertisements such as Gatorade Double Life mainly focus on sports magazines such as
Sports Illustrated, Bounce and Dime as they carry a synergy with their target audience of Athletes,
professional or non professional.
The TV advertising benefits for G2 in terms of Clout against cost as it reaches a large number of
people which reduces cost per head. But it can also be argued that clout is low with both mediums as
they cannot be personalized. However, there is

Elizabeth I of England was the queen for forty five years. She was often referred to as Good Queen
Bess, Gloriana, or the Virgin Queen. During her reign, Elizabeth was imprisoned, threatened by
conspiracy, dealt with impending warfare, and had to answer to the question of marriage so she and
her country would survive. She had endured so much and brought so much culture during her reign
that it s not surprising that her long reign is called the Elizabethan Era, or the Golden Age of England.

This gave Catholic countries, such as France and Spain, another reason to attack England and also
brought on threats to the Queen, along with assassinations and attempts to overthrow her so that her
cousin, Mary, Queen of Scots, could be queen. As many Catholics tried to take the throne away from
Elizabeth I, she decided to imprison Mary, Queen of Scots for twenty years before beheading her.
Since Elizabeth I was excommunicated, she was forced to impose harsher laws on Catholics and
helped Protestants in Spanish Holland rebel. This made the Spanish Armada attempt to invade
England in 1588, but the English navy was able to defeat them. Many say that weather conditions had
to do with the victory, along with the fact that Sir Francis Drake was a sea dog that was in the English
navy at the time. Elizabeth I would also use her single status to deal with these attacks and to get out
of major warfare with Spain or France. She would often threaten to marry foes of other s and she
would court many men, including Eric XIV of Sweden, Archduke Charles of Austria, Henry, Duke of
Anjou, and Francis, Duke of Anjou and Alençon. She was able to navigate through many political and
foreign affairs through these courtships, which kept England out of trouble. Later, Elizabeth I was

The piece (title of piece) was choreographed by Andy Noble. This piece really stood out among the
others because of the high energy, and the use of ramps. Three ramps of different sizes were placed on
stage right. Throughout the piece, dancers ran off of and danced on them. It is so exhilarating to watch
the partnering on the ramps because everything seems to be constantly off balance. I would
characterize the first half of the piece as organized chaos. All of the sudden, everyone runs off the
stage leaving their shoes behind. The second half of the piece brought along an entirely different
feeling. With the shoes still strewn across the floor, Taylor Hennings and Todd Baker performed an
exquisite duet. The duet really completed the whole storyline of the piece. The story being conveyed is
that the first section is a war zone. Everyone is fighting and trying to survive. Then the reality hits and
they lose the battle. Two villagers come back and see all the destruction that took place, with all the
leftover shoes signaling the lives that were lost. The duet is about how important it is to hold your
over ones close and you never know when you will loose them. I think the piece overall is amazing. I
may be a bit biased, but I feel that if I was in the audience, I would be on the edge of my seat with my
mouth open throughout the entire piece. I know Andy would be proud of how far this piece has

Penicillin Essay
Penicillin was accidentally discovered at St. Mary s Hospital, London in 1929 by Dr. Alexander
Fleming. As test continued, Fleming began to realize that he was on the verge of a great discovery.
However, he still did not know the identity of the fungus, and had little knowledge of fungi. His crude
extracts could be diluted 1,000 times and still be effective in killing bacteria. After years of working
on penicillin and going nowhere, many of his co workers grew tired of hearing about it. The first real
test for penicillin came when a 48 year old police officer nicked himself shaving. After a time,
Alexander s face became infected and he developed a temperature. When he was rushed to the

Penicillin brought about the biggest search in medical history. It was reasoned that if there was one
antibiotic in nature, there must be many more, and there were.
If anything should be taken off of the Basic s List, it should be Social Darwinism. Social Darwinism is
simply survival of the fittest. This a simple view, and is not practiced much very often. Penicillin on
the other hand, has saved thousands, if not millions of lives, and started its own medical revolution to
seek for new cures to other things as well.
World War II turning points are much more important than penicillin. If there were not any breaks for
the American troops, then there would have been many more lives lost in the war than needed.
Possibly, there would be more lives lost in the fighting than saved by penicillin in its fist two decades

Agriculture In America
Agriculture is our wisest pursuit, because it will in the end contribute most to real wealth, good morals

Planting and harvest times determined when children would attend school because older siblings

as they do now. Today s youth have no idea how difficult growing and harvesting crops for a family

The Questionable Morality Of Physician Assisted Suicide
The Questionable Morality of Physician assisted Suicide
Physician assisted suicide is one of the most controversial procedures in all of modern medicine, and
the ethics of the practice have been in question for several years. It is legal in five states in the United
States and many countries around the world. The operation involves a trained physician intentionally
supplying lethal doses of drugs to a patient who administers the drugs to his or herself. It is a practice
that is commonly confused with euthanasia. In euthanasia, the physician is the primary source of
administration for the lethal doses because he or she injects the drugs into the patient. There are many
reasons as to why one may feel inclined to end his or her own life. The most common of these could
be severe depression or terminal illness. These people and patients often find themselves in a deep

Some of these people reached out to a physician who was known for assisting in suicides. This

War. When asked about his involvement during an interview with CNN s Anderson Cooper,
Kevorkian stated, I didn t do it to end the life. I did it to end the suffering the patient is going through.

Push! Don t push. Pant! Her head was spinning and the room was swirling. The floor stared down at
the ceiling. Samuel heard the commotion My baby! My baby! The aching voice cried out. He rushed
up the stairs like a frightened animal smelling death. Valarie, Valarie. His echoing voice kicked at his
chest. It was seconds but it felt like eternity before he reached his wife. Cold sweat covered her body
as she curled tighter than a fist on the floor in a corner. He wondered if she was dying as the dread
took hold of him and he crawled on his hands and knees and took her in his arms. He felt her warm
breath. Sign of life! His heart thanked God. He sat cradling her as only the beat of his heart spoke.
Fear filled the corners of his eyes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But it felt good that she was in his arms, even if it was her state of helplessness that kept her there. It
had been some time that Valerie had taken to her bed. She just fell weak and sick. The kind of sickness
that comes from the heart, that manifests in the body. That breaks your mind and haunts your spirit.
That leaves you with no choice, but to take to your bed. The kind of sickness, that feels like a dagger
twisting and turning inside. A sickness that can kill you! Valarie sobbed and screamed while holding
her stomach, bending, curling up. Samuel got real scared. Fear gripped him. He was sure that he
would lose her this time one way or another. Either she would lose her mind or die. Valarie was caught
in an abyss, caught in her past and Samuel could do nothing. He had no knowledge or understanding
of what was going on. His heart began to beat faster and faster. He could hear the pounding, the
roaring of its fear. His chest tightened and he struggled for breath. It was baby Sophia who had
brought Valarie out of the bed, although initially she had rejected the baby. But something in Valarie
craved the child. Yet, she could not bear to hold her and she felt sick when the child suckled in search
of breast for milk that she could not give her. Valarie had become hot and distressed, almost afraid, so
afraid. How could she be afraid of this tiny baby lying beside her? It called to her natural instinct,

French Unoccupied Zone Analysis
Under the leadership of Philippe Pétain, Vichy France, the Unoccupied Zone during the World War II
1940s, was far from being an impotent and vulnerable collaborator of Nazi Germany. Rather, it,
having the paramount goal of restoring France s elite, of restoring a mythical pre Revolutionary
France based on traditional Catholic values, and of ridding the state of Jews and foreigners,
particularly the British, often determined its own agenda and acted as a preemptive accomplice to
Hitler s anti Semitist suggestions.
When Germany defeated France on May 10, 1940, it divided the French land into five zones,
including the Occupied Zone with Paris as its capital and the Unoccupied Zone with Vichy as its
capital. In the deceivingly named unoccupied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While it is true that the French began adopting German values hoping to secure place of political
power and influence for France in Europe , most Frenchmen still regarded the Nazis with contempt.
When Prime Minister Laval, who actually supported the Nazis and had pro German policies, openly
admitted to wanting Germany to win the war, which when confronted by the French he qualified by
saying that he wanted Germany to win against Communism , the French became outraged. Pétain led
Vichy France to collaborate with Germany because doing so facilitated France s access to power in the
emerging European politics and because his discriminatory goals aligned with, and even surpassed,
those of the Nazis, not because he wanted to surrender to the Third Reich. On the other side, the
French Resistance was primarily composed of the working class such as farmers and railroad men
with little to no political training . The resistors Ophüls interviewed recognized that generally, only
unsuccessful and men joined the movement, as the bourgeoisie had more to lose. Thus, despite having
the weapons to combat the Nazis in the Occupied Zone, the movement was widely ineffective, and
eventually it joined forces with the Communists to combat

The Geologic Record
It can be argued by some geologists that significantly more time is lost at bedding planes than is
recorded by the accumulation of sediment and its later lithification into a sedimentary rock. In the
present paper, the continuity of the sedimentary record is investigated. It is hypothesized that
sedimentary strata preserved predominately records episodic sedimentation events and gaps
represented by bedding planes symbolize more time than the preserved strata. The incompleteness of
the geologic record and the role of rare events was studied using data gathered from a variety of
sedimentary outcrops and cores. The author addressed his hypothesis using this collected data in terms
of sediment preservation and represented preservation as a function of two modes of geomorphic
processes: Magnitude and frequency. The author tested his hypothesis using relatively modern storm
events to represent sedimentation, showing how daily processes can distort the geologic record, and
by using ancient examples to illustrate how some storms can be preserved in spectacular condition.
The results of this study support the hypothesis that the stratigraphic record represents episodic
phenomena rather than continuous deposition. When describing fluvial processes, the study was
significant in that infrequent, extremely high magnitude fluvial events in a canyon located below base
level leaves sediment deposits that are preserved for a long period of time. In contrast, frequent floods
occurring the

Summary Of The Beginning Of A Long Poem On Why I Burned...
What is something society does that makes you hate? Many people have the tendency to either reveal
their emotions externally to the public or keep their emotions wrapped inside. The poem, The
Beginning of a Long Poem on Why I Burned the City by Lawrence Benford and Jimmy the Terrorist
by Omar Ahmed reveal the effects of racism in society and how one may handle the situation. In
comparing, Benford and Ahmed reveal the effects of one s experiences of injustice which can later
follow into adulthood and the two ways it is handled. In the poem, The Beginning of a Long Poem on
Why I Burned the City , the speaker [grows] up in hate [that] [bubbles] in the back streets (2 3).
Already at a young age the speaker knows being black living in his city, hate surrounds him. The
hatred continues where [he] shined shoes with [his] teeth , proving the city uses him as an object
rather than a person leading up to his anger (6,7). Unable to defend himself or do anything at all
because talking back would result in consequences, bringing attention to him and his family. While in
Jimmy the Terrorist , during Jamaal s growing, his choice of the name Jimmy the Terrorist had a
peculiar reason. The violence of the last decade...knowing the face of [his] death at the age of fifteen ,
as this was India, where not much your right or privilege, but a part of your identity (2,4). Jamaal s
facing of obstacles continues as his eyes are filled with fear because he knows his life will end.

Hurtful Words Draft We are not aware of negative words and how much they can impact an
individual. Think. The words you say have the power to end someone s life. The expression you give
them can make them bleed. The things you do or the things you don t do can really hurt people. Words
kill. Far too often people do things without considering the effect they might cause; It s usually said
that I m just playing around , when this isn t a game that should be played around with. Our generation
does not realize that in just one simple word or phrase the conception of words that are said can
completely change someone in an instant. Individuals are not aware of the influence that they contain.
The tongue is the most powerful weapon a person can ever use because if you choose to use these

Paul Bogard s Argument For The Preservation Of Darkness
In his commentary, Paul Bogard builds an argument for the preservation of natural darkness. He
strongly believes people are overusing artificial luminescence at night, and should reduce their usage
to preserve darkness. To substantiate his opinion, Bogard utilizes factual evidence and appeal to
emotion.
Bogard employs factual evidence as a means of improving his argument. In his second paragraph,
Bogard utilizes evidence provided by the WHO in saying the night shift is a probable human
carcinogen. . . Sleep disorders have been linked to diabetes, obesity, depression. . . one main cause of
short sleep is long light . Bogard emphasizes that as the use of artificial lighting at night increases,

He begins by reminiscing about his childhood spent at a lake, nostalgically speaking of the scenes he
saw in the sky. Later, he says Even the northern lake where I was lucky enough to spend my summers
as seen its darkness diminish . Bogard uses his own past as a means of accessing the reader s past,
forcing him or her to think about how much they value their childhood. By stating how even his
childhood memories are being blown away by artificial lighting, Bogard instills fear that their
memories will face the same fate in the reader. As a result of this fear, the reader is left only to agree
with Bogard. He then goes on to state night s darkness can provide solitude, quiet and stillness. . . In a
world awash with electric light . . . how would Van Gogh have given the world his Starry Night ? As
humans, peace and solitude is an inherent part of who we are; no matter how mush of a social
butterfly we are, quiet is something we all crave. Within this peacefulness, we can get away from the
bustle of life and even find inspiration in darkness much like Van Gogh did. To lose this independence
and quiet would be a shocking blow to everyone, and the reader is convinced by Bogard. Through his
or her own emotions and experiences, the reader is compelled to agree with

The Siamese Revolution And Animal Farm
The Siamese Revolution and Animal Farm Thailand has gone through many revolutions and
rebellions, but one that stands out would definitely have to be the Revolution of 1932. That revolution
in particular seemed to have started it all, from the many different constitutions to the different
government phases. The Revolution of 1932 also under name of the Siamese Revolution, Promoters
Revolution, and many other names in specific got rid of the absolute monarchy rule Thailand was
previously under, and changed the country s name of Siam to Thailand. In comparison to the book
Animal Farm, these two revolutions have more differing situations than similar situations. Previous to
the Revolution of 1932, Thailand was known as Siam and was under an absolute monarchy rule. Their
long era of absolute monarchy was ended on June 24 ,1932. Although most absolute monarchies do
not have many positives, Siam did have some positive happenings while under absolute monarchy
rule. They had been able to preserve their independence when it was threatened by the British and
French colonial advances in Southeast Asia. That had happened while Siam was under rule of
Chulalongkorn. Siam was also able to gain spoils of war from being involved with World War I during
the rule of Vajiravudh. Siam s last absolute monarch was King Prajadhipok. In 1926 one of his
policies was to decrease the annual salary of bureaucrats, causing dissatisfaction for those affected.

Essay about Marie Curie
Marie Curie
LIFE OF MARIE CURIE
Marie Curie(1867 1934) was a French physicist with many accomplishments in both physics and
chemistry. Marie and her husband Pierre, who was also a
French physicist, are both famous for their work in radioactivity.
Marie Curie, originally named Marja Sklodowska, was born in Warsaw,
Poland on Nov.7, 1867. Her first learning of physics came from her father who taught it in high
school. Marie s father must have taught his daughter well because in 1891, she went to Paris(where
she changed her original name) and enrolled in the Sorbonne. Then two years later she passed the
Examination for her physics degree ranking in first place. She met Pierre ... Show more content on

Curie thus began studying uranium radiation and made it her doctoral thesis. With the aid of an
electrometer built by Pierre, Marie measured the strength of the radiation emitted form uranium
compounds and found it proportional to the uranium content, constant over a long period of time and
influenced by external conditions. She detected a similar immutable radiation in the compounds of
thorium. While checking these results, she made the discovery that uranium pitchblende and the
mineral chalcolite emitted four times as much radiation as their uranium content. She realized that
unknown elements, even more radioactive then uranium must be present. Then in 1898 she drew the
revolutionary conclusion that pitchblende contains a small amount of an unknown radiating element.
Pierre Curie understood the importance of this supposition and joined his wife s work. In the next
year, the Curie s discovered two new radiating elements which they named Polonium(after Maries
native country) and Radium.
They now began the tedious and monumental task of isolating these elements so that their chemical
properties could be determined. During the next four years, working in a leaky wooden shed, they
processed a ton of pitchblende, laboriously isolating from it a fraction of a gram of radium.

The Latest Major Dota 2 Tournament On Mainstream...
The latest major Dota 2 tournament was met with a huge reception and the largest prize pool in e
sports history to date. For the developers Valve, the tournament was a huge success and another
stepping stone in e sports rapid rise towards mainstream popularity and acceptance. However Valve
also made another and no less profound statement of intent with the tournament that marks them as a
distinctive force in the e sports and wider gaming industry and that is one of emphasising the
generative power of play. This statement of intent became clear after a controversial incident occurred
with the Ukrainian team Natus Vincere who employed a strategy that many considered to be a bug ,
glitch or exploit , or at least, certainly to an outsiders view. The strategy in question was the now
infamous fountain hook Pudge / Chen combination that utilises a unique ability of the two champions
(Pudges Meat Hook and Chens Test of Faith ) to create an effectively unstoppable move that pulls an
enemy hero into the certain death of the base fountain if executed correctly. The if word is key here.
This was an extremely hard combination to successfully employ that not only relies on a perfection of
team unity in combining moves, but also on a huge level of individual skill on the part of Natus
Vincere s Dendi in landing the initial Meat Hook from Pudge. However for the average spectator,
many of whom were from a League of Legends background (1), it looked like an (albeit fun) exploit

Meal replacements are nutritionally balanced meals that help to reduce kilojoule intake, which in the
end helps with weight loss. Meal replacements are helpful as they come in all different formulations,
such as powders, shakes, bars and soups. In the end meal replacements all come down to personal
preference. Some benefits for meal replacements is that they are portioned controlled, they are
designed to be filling, quick and convenient and there is no hassle with planning your meals as they
choice has already been made for you. Some negative aspects of meal replacements are they don t
offer the same amount of nutritional benefits as whole foods, they don t teach of how to eat a healthy
and balanced diet, they can get very pricy, and they lack in variety as they are always to same and feel
and test very repetitive. A short term effect of taking meal replacements is that can cause side effects
such as people who suffer from kidney and liver problems can gain gallstones because they lose
weight too quickly. Meal replacements are not suitable to use forever but studies show they are safe
and as a long term effect they become for effective on the body and help with more weight loss
compared to other diets. In the long run meal replacements can interfere with certain medications
especially for people suffering from diabetes as it can cause low blood sugar levels. Overall meal

Supreme Court held that separate but equal facilities are inherently unequal and violate the protections

  • 2. The Debate Of Corruption Versus Free Speech The idea of money in politics has always been a polarizing issue. For over one hundred years the discussion of individuals and corporations financing campaigns has led to a debate of corruption versus free speech. Is money in politics a corrupting influence that always leads to quid pro quo? Or, is it an issue of allowing individuals to use their money as an extension of their freedom of speech? Recently, campaign finance reform has been a very dynamic issue. With the last major supreme court case Citizens United v. FEC, money in politics has taken a significant turn from the status quo. With only seven years after the Citizens United ruling we can already see the effects of less regulated free speech in politics. Campaign finance reform ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another aspect of FECA was to limit hard money. The philosophy behind this was to restrict the amount of money one individual could give directly to a PAC so they would not have too much influence in the outcome of an election. As a reaction, the PACs started investing into media outlets and began creating commercials. By doing this PACs were able to maintain their influence while still obeying the campaign laws (Hughes 4:30 5:00). To combat too much political influence from advertising, the federal government passed a law called the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA) or as it s more commonly known, the McCain Feingold Act. The BCRA sought to expand disclosure on soft money and changed some limits on hard money. The key piece of this legislation is the electioneering communications statute, or section 203. This piece of BCRA was intended to limit the influence of PACs by restricting their ability to air advertisements right before elections. McCain Feingold prevented corporations and PACs from showing political commercials sixty days before an election and thirty days before a primary (FEC BCRA 90). Citizens United is a conservative non profit group that sought to challenge Michael Moore s movie Ferienheit 9/11 through section 203 of the McCain Feingold Act. Citizens United called into question Moore s movie citing the motive behind the film was to advocate the defeat of President Bush and that it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. General Biography Of Carl Gustav Jung General Biography Carl Gustav Jung was born on July 26, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland, to the parents of Paul Achilles Jung and Emile Preiswerk. His father was a rural pastor while his mother suffered from depression and claimed to see spirits at night. This strained Jung s relationship with her and therefore shaped his attitude toward women in general. Carl Jung was the youngest of four children, but he was the only one who survived. He suffered from multiple personality disorder, and was a very sad, lonely, and isolated child. In 1895, Carl Jung enrolled to the University of Basel to study science and medicine. He graduated in 1900 with a medical degree. He then did an internship under Eugen Bleuler at the Burgholzli Psychiatric clinic in Zurich. Jung studied the unconscious mind during this internship. In 1902, he received his Ph.D. at the University of Zurich with a doctoral dissertation On the Psychology and Pathology of So Called Occult Phenomena (Cowgil, 1997). Carl Jung married Emma Rauschenberg in 1903 and they had four daughters and one son together. He did not give any affection to his children and they were not allowed to hug or kiss him, they were only allowed to shake hands (Schultz Schultz, 2016). Carl Jung was not faithful to his wife Emma Rauschenberg because he had multiple affairs throughout their marriage. They welcomed their first daughter, Agathe, into the world on December 28, 1904. Jung was then offered a faculty job for psychiatry at the University of Zurich in 1905. He had read, The Interpretation of Dreams, written by Sigmund Freud and enjoyed his work so much that he began to write him letters in 1906. One year later Jung and Freud finally met. On February 8, 1906, Jung had his second daughter, Gret. A couple of years later, he had his only son, Franz, on November 28, 1908. In 1909, Jung started a private practice of psychoanalysis in Kuessnacht, this practice was kept up and ran until Jung died. Carl Jung had his third daughter, Marianne, on September 20, 1910. In 1911, Jung obtained the first president of the International Psychoanalytic association. He started to Lecture at Fordham University in 1912. A year later, Carl Jung resigned from being the president of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The human race will now be able to improve upon itself and their offspring. With this technology disease can be disposed of and normal people can become better than average. Not all technology needs to be utilized. Genetic engineering that should not be used in humans unless done to prevent or treat disease until it is fully understood since the consequences are undetermined and potentially devastating. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Preventing sickness is not wrong. The issue occurs when one tries to, as Sandel claims, reach beyond health or above the norm ( The Case Against ). Pills and other devices have done this. For example, David King, a professor at Harvard, recollects when human growth hormone was marketed towards people with hormone deficiencies. Now it is prescribed to normal short children (39). Surgery was also originally used for medical uses, but cosmetic surgery is now its own field. When HGE becomes affordable and safe the public will find use. Clapper explains germline changes the genes in eggs or sperm ( Human Genetic ). This will modify any future children. Mitochondrial transfer, a form of germline engineering, is now possible allowing for three genetically linked parents to a child. Wynne Parry, LiveScience contributor, describes that it replaces faulty mitochondria with healthy ones from a third party ( Designing Life ) riding the child of mitochondrial diseases from the mother due to old age during pregnancy. Germline engineering will satisfy few people who have infertility and do not want to use other methods. Parents can have the same bond between another being without conceiving a child. There is adoption, but some do not do this since the child will not be genetically linked to them. Clapper mentions that gamete and embryo donation, or pre implantation diagnosis and selection can be used ( Human Genetic ). The latter allows for both parents to be related ... • 5. George Gascoigne s For That He Looked Not Upon Her For That He Looked Not Upon Her is a poem written by 16th century poet George Gascoigne. In the poem, Gascoigne uses sonnet form to organize his work. Next, he uses strong diction to help convey the attitude of the speaker. Finally, Gascoigne uses imagery to bring the words to life through vivid analogies. Gascoigne effectively uses form, strong diction, and active imagery to develop the complex tone of the speaker. Gascoigne uses form to develop the complex attitude of the speaker. This poem takes the form of a Shakespearean Sonnet. Because of the form he chooses to use, this poem can be broken into three quatrains with a couplet to end the poem. In each of the quatrains, Gascoigne depicts a different tone, which adds to the complexity of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the second and third quatrains, the speaker uses analogies to describe why he wouldn t return to his lover. In each of the analogies, Gascoigne uses an animal longing for their object of desire. In the first second quatrain, it is a mouse that doesn t not fall for the same trap it once escaped from. In the third quatrain, it is the fly that will not be scorched by the same flame twice. In both analogies, the subjects escape from a dangerous conflict, only to want to return to that conflict again, as the desire is one that the subject needs to survive. By using this type of application to show the speaker s conflict, the speaker better shows and develops their attitude towards the main subject of the poem. The imagery in these analogies helps to create the complex attitude of the speaker because by using the analogy, the reader is able to connect the speaker s feelings to a real life situation. The audience is able to better understand the scenario because the author compared it to an everyday scenario that can be easily pictured. • 6. Transferability Skills Analysis In determining employability, one must determine and consider a person s current occupational profile, which includes their functional abilities, education, aptitudes, work experience and transferable skills. Just because two individuals have an identical impairment does not necessarily equate to them both becoming work disabled. One may not be work disabled based upon her/her occupational profile. Vocational Rehabilitation Specialists (VRS) are qualified to use work samples and standardized testing tools, as well as to interpret physical/functional capacity information and the National Occupational Classification Career Handbook as it pertains to the world of work. • 7. The Rise Of Asian Civilizations Do you feel that Asian Civilizations from 1500 to 1700 veered towards modernity or careened back toward traditional culture? From the 16th to 18th century, the prominent Asian Civilizations were the Mughal Empire, the Ming Dynasty of China and the Edo Period of Japan. There was an obvious trend that these empires leaned toward traditional culture mainly because of political influences. Although there were also several aspects of each society such as the more important role of women in the Mughal Empire, the interactions of the Jesuits with China and Japan that might be indicative of modernity or act as a precursor to modern values, the reversion of traditional culture in each civilization is so much greater that it outweighed the ... For example, farming lands were reclaimed, campaigns of reforestation were initiated, roads and canals were paved and dug, and irrigation and flood prevention measures were constructed. Instead of focusing on trading and commercialism like their previous Mongolian rulers, the Ming reverted back to the traditional Chinese agrarian society. At around the 16th Century, the Edo Period began in Japan, marked by the ruling of the Tokugawa Ieyasu over Daimyos, or feudal lords. Because of his military strength, the Shogun was able to help restore the Imperial rule to its former glory by granting lands to the royal family and creating a system that emulates tradition, installing the Emperor as the head of Japan, when in reality it is but a figurehead. However, at least it is ceremonially important and is considered upholding of traditional values. The Shogun also banned Japanese from traveling abroad as well as completely isolating Japan from the rest of the world after several disputes with Europeans and their Jesuits. This is why Japan remained largely uninfluenced by modern Western Ideals until the 18th century. Another noteworthy example of traditionalism in these civilizations is the presence of a strong caste system within their society. In the Mughal Empire, the caste system of the Indians which make up the most of the population was still in effect at that time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. How Did The United States Build The Erie Canal America s Great Canal: The Erie Canal During the 1800 s there was no clear passage to take from New York to the American west. This created an issue as the expense to transport goods such as wheat and flour would be a costly amount of approximately $100 per ton. Due to the Appalachian Mountains New York was secluded from much of western America. The Canal took approximately nine years to be completed, despite funding issues that were presented the canal proved to be an expense well made. The Erie Canal (Clinton s Ditch) was a project known to be doubted upon by political figures, yet despite political opposes to the idea, the result of the canal was noted to be America s greatest engineering achievement of its time, as the increase of economic prosperity arose in New York because of the canal, alongside popularity for the regions that surrounded the canal; the canal proved to be a success. The idea to construct a canal was continuously declined by the federal government, despite s the benefits that the canal would bring, for this reason New York decided the fund the project on its own. It was important to recognize that New York needed a passage which would make transportation of goods cost efficient. It was also important to make a means for transportation that would put New York as a place for business since it is the only way that states at the time would grow and prosper. Since Elizabeth I was excommunicated, she was forced to impose harsher laws on Catholics and helped Protestants in Spanish Holland rebel. This made the Spanish Armada attempt to invade England in 1588, but the English navy was able to defeat them. Many say that weather conditions had to do with the victory, along with the fact that Sir Francis Drake was a sea dog that was in the English navy at the time. Elizabeth I would also use her single status to deal with these attacks and to get out of major warfare with Spain or France. She would often threaten to marry foes of other s and she would court many men, including Eric XIV of Sweden, Archduke Charles of Austria, Henry, Duke of Anjou, and Francis, Duke of Anjou and Alençon. Three ramps of different sizes were placed on stage right. Throughout the piece, dancers ran off of and danced on them. It is so exhilarating to watch the partnering on the ramps because everything seems to be constantly off balance. I would characterize the first half of the piece as organized chaos. All of the sudden, everyone runs off the stage leaving their shoes behind. The second half of the piece brought along an entirely different feeling. With the shoes still strewn across the floor, Taylor Hennings and Todd Baker performed an exquisite duet. The duet really completed the whole storyline of the piece. The story being conveyed is that the first section is a war zone. Everyone is fighting and trying to survive. Then the reality hits and they lose the battle. Two villagers come back and see all the destruction that took place, with all the leftover shoes signaling the lives that were lost. The duet is about how important it is to hold your over ones close and you never know when you will loose them. I think the piece overall is amazing. As test continued, Fleming began to realize that he was on the verge of a great discovery. However, he still did not know the identity of the fungus, and had little knowledge of fungi. His crude extracts could be diluted 1,000 times and still be effective in killing bacteria. After years of working on penicillin and going nowhere, many of his co workers grew tired of hearing about it. The Questionable Morality Of Physician Assisted Suicide The Questionable Morality of Physician assisted Suicide Physician assisted suicide is one of the most controversial procedures in all of modern medicine, and the ethics of the practice have been in question for several years. It is legal in five states in the United States and many countries around the world. The operation involves a trained physician intentionally supplying lethal doses of drugs to a patient who administers the drugs to his or herself. It is a practice that is commonly confused with euthanasia. In euthanasia, the physician is the primary source of administration for the lethal doses because he or she injects the drugs into the patient. There are many reasons as to why one may feel inclined to end his or her own life. The most common of these could be severe depression or terminal illness. These people and patients often find themselves in a deep hole that is impossible to climb out of. Their last resort is to end their physical and emotional pain. Some of these people reached out to a physician who was known for assisting in suicides. This physician was Dr. Jack Kevorkian, a pathologist and army medical officer in Korea during the Korean War. When asked about his involvement during an interview with CNN s Anderson Cooper, Kevorkian stated, I didn t do it to end the life. I did it to end the suffering the patient is going through. • 24. The Geologic Record It can be argued by some geologists that significantly more time is lost at bedding planes than is recorded by the accumulation of sediment and its later lithification into a sedimentary rock. In the present paper, the continuity of the sedimentary record is investigated. It is hypothesized that sedimentary strata preserved predominately records episodic sedimentation events and gaps represented by bedding planes symbolize more time than the preserved strata. The incompleteness of the geologic record and the role of rare events was studied using data gathered from a variety of sedimentary outcrops and cores. The author addressed his hypothesis using this collected data in terms of sediment preservation and represented preservation as a function of two modes of geomorphic processes: Magnitude and frequency. The author tested his hypothesis using relatively modern storm events to represent sedimentation, showing how daily processes can distort the geologic record, and by using ancient examples to illustrate how some storms can be preserved in spectacular condition. The results of this study support the hypothesis that the stratigraphic record represents episodic phenomena rather than continuous deposition. When describing fluvial processes, the study was significant in that infrequent, extremely high magnitude fluvial events in a canyon located below base level leaves sediment deposits that are preserved for a long period of time. In contrast, frequent floods occurring the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With the aid of an electrometer built by Pierre, Marie measured the strength of the radiation emitted form uranium compounds and found it proportional to the uranium content, constant over a long period of time and influenced by external conditions. She detected a similar immutable radiation in the compounds of thorium. While checking these results, she made the discovery that uranium pitchblende and the mineral chalcolite emitted four times as much radiation as their uranium content. She realized that unknown elements, even more radioactive then uranium must be present. Then in 1898 she drew the revolutionary conclusion that pitchblende contains a small amount of an unknown radiating element. Pierre Curie understood the importance of this supposition and joined his wife s work. In the next year, the Curie s discovered two new radiating elements which they named Polonium(after Maries native country) and Radium. They now began the tedious and monumental task of isolating these elements so that their chemical properties could be determined.
