This document provides information about the Teesta Barrage at Dalia in Bangladesh. The Teesta Barrage is the largest irrigation project in Bangladesh, constructed between 1979-1997 by the Bangladesh Water Development Board and BUET. It is a 615m long concrete structure with 44 radial gates and a discharge capacity of 12,750 cusec. It benefits 750,000 hectares of land across 7 districts but also faces problems like insufficient water flow and conveyance losses.

A 610m long flood bypass for release of flood water.
A 2,470m long closure dam to divert flow through the barrage.
A silt trap to control entry of sediment in the canal.
A flood embankment of about 80 km to provide flood protection.
Gross benefited area 750,000 ha.

5. BENEFITS & PROBLEMS
BENEFITS:
 Increase of cropping intensity & production.
 Ample opportunities of pisciculture & duck farming.
 Improved communication to remote areas.
 Decrease of dependency of rainfall.
 Improved living condition.
 Sanctuary for migratory birds.
PROBLEMS & DEFECTS:
 Insufficient flow of water through Teesta.
 Conveyance loss through canals.
 Loss of lands for some farmers.
 Insufficient dredging.
 Poor condition of field outlets.
 Long distance between canals.
 Irrigation water unavailable in time.
