The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. Social Class
The target audience for my music
video is A/B upper/upper middle
class. This means that the music
video will have to be modern and
sophisticated in order to interest
this social class.
Gender
The gender target for this music video is
both male and female. This means that
the video will have to be very general and
not support any gender stereotypes in
order to not offend anyone. Most males
and females enjoy watching music videos
online so as long as it is sophisticated,
they should enjoy it.
Age
The age of the target audience is
16 – 25. As the target audience are
fairly young, the characters that I
will use in the music video will
also be young so that the audience
may be more drawn to watch it. It
will hopefully be relatable for
everyone as the age range is not
that large.
Psychographics
The typical target audience for this
music video are most likely to be
spending time going out with friends,
meeting new people, spending time
with family and doing work.

3. Interests
The main interests of this target audience are
probably spending time going out with friends and
meeting new people constantly. They may also
enjoy going to the less well-known places in
London to spend a day out with friends. For
example; they may enjoy going to places like
Kensington or even doing the dinner cruise down
the river Thames for a nice relaxed evening. As
they are upper/upper middle class, they may enjoy
going out to the posher parts of London to spend
time with friends. Also, as the ages are most likely
to still be in some form of education or work, they
may also enjoy going to some of the museums/art
galleries in London such as The Tate Modern, or the
Museum of London.
Geodemographic
It is most likely that the target
audience for this music video will
be living in the suburbs or popular
towns. They may also be living in
London but not in the centre. For
example, they could live in
Kensington or in more rural places
like Kent. However, as they are
most likely to be in education,
(school or university), it is
probably more likely that they
will be living nearer London as it
has the best access to everywhere
and is very central.

4. This is one example of someone that would be a part of
my target audience. This is Chloe Sutton, she is 16 years
old and she is currently studying for her AS Levels at a
sixth-form in Kent. She also has a part-time job working
in her local café and volunteers at a Retirement Home
once a month. Chloe is a fan of the dance/house genre
as she listens to it whilst at school working and also
hears the songs when she goes out with her friends.
Some of her favourite artists are Diplo, Daft Punk and
Gorgon City. She enjoys watching the music videos on
YouTube and keeps up to date with any new music that
may interest her.
When asked why she enjoys this genre of music, she
replied “I like the beat that it has. It’s steady but not
too slow so I like to listen to it when I’m working but it
also comes on when I’m out with my friends.”
My music video would be to a popular dance/house song
and would therefore interest people like Chloe.

5. Gender
The gender target for the
music video is both male
and female. I will try to
include all genders as it
will hopefully make the
video seem more diverse.
Most males and females
enjoy listening to music
and therefore watching
music videos.
Age
The target age for the music video is
16 – 22. The older side of this age
range are more likely to watch the
music videos and reminisce and
perhaps compare them to the ones
that were coming out when they
were 16; especially if the song used
is very modern.
The two social class groups that I would like
to video to target is A and B. This is
upper/upper middle class. In order to do this
I would keep the video sophisticated. When I
am filming the video, I would have to keep
the target audience in consideration so that
it would still appeal to everyone.
Social Class
Psychographics
The older side of the target
audience are most likely to
be spending time going out
to clubs with friends at night
and then studying/learning
during the day.

6. Interests
The main interests of the target
audience are probably going out to
night-clubs or maybe the more
expensive and ‘posh’ restaurants
and catching up with old friends or
even meeting new people. They are
probably less likely o be spending a
lot of time with family as they may
be travelling, at university or have a
current job. They may also be
spending a considerable amount of
time studying and getting to know
what it is like to be independent.
They may go to places that are less
known for heavy tourism and may
enjoy spending a day out with
friends and exploring around their
local are or somewhere they know
less well.
Geodemographic
It is most likely that the
target audience may be living
away from home as they may
be studying at university and
living in student housing or
they may even be travelling
around the world in the hope
of ‘finding themselves’.
However, it is still possible
that they may be living at
home with their family. For
example, as the target
audience is upper/upper
middle class, they may be
living in the more prestigious
part of London such as
Chelsea and Kensington.

7. This is another example of someone that would be part
of my target audience. This is Cameron Loughton, he is
21 years old and is currently in his third year studying
English Literature at Cambridge University. He enjoys
listening to electronic/house music but his favourite is
dance music. He doesn’t have a part time job as he
spends the majority of his time studying, sleeping and
going out with friends. He has may friends at university
all studying different subjects however they all enjoy
listening to the same music which may be why they get
on. When they go out to a night club, it also means that
they enjoy going to a lot of the same places due to the
music that is played there. Some of his favourite artists
are Gorgon City, Calvin Harris and M22.
When asked why he enjoys this type of music he
replied, “It is so easy to listen to and enjoy and all of
my friends love it as much as I do. It also helps me zone
out and cam down after a long day, especially if I have
had a lot of classes or lectures.”
The song I would use for this music video would be
dance/electronic inspired so it should hopefully appeal
to people like Cameron.
