• The target audience for pop music videos is most likely
to be young people at ages of around 16-24. it is
aimed mostly at teens and usually a majority of the
time at young females
• Looking at the demographic a stereotypical target
audience of pop would normally wear clothing from a
relatively “mainstream” store such as New Look, River
Island or Topshop. They would wear everyday brands
that are usually on trend and in all of the fashion
magazines such as Look or More.
• This target audience is most likely to listen to artists that
are frequently on the radio and in the top 40 charts
such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Usher and Beyonce.
They may also listen to a lot of dance and rap songs
too depending on which sort of pop singers they are
into, for example, someone that listens to Rihanna
may also listen to a lot of dance music where as
someone who listens more to Usher or Kanye West
might be more into rap music
3. Drum and bass
• The target audience for drum and bass music is similar to pop although
seeing as fans of drum and bass are often referred to as “ravers” the
target audience for this genre is most likely to be around 18-25. This is
because the connotations for this genre are closely related to partying
which means the target audience would have to be of legal drinking
age. The stereotypical target gender for drum and bass is usually male
but the fan base of this genre is so varied that the target audience is
generally very mixed between males and females.
• Typically, the target audience usually wears vibrant coloured clothing
which are usually recognisable brands such as AdidasOriginals which is
associated with the drum and bass scene.
• Audiences are more likely to listen to DJs such as DJ Fresh and Chase and
Status. As drum and bass is a sub-genre in the dance/rave genre, this
audience is likely to listen to other sub-genres too. This includes dupstep,
hip-hop, garage and others. Audiences are more likely to download
their music off sites such as YouTube and SoundCloud to find drum and
bass remixes of other songs from other genres. If buying a collaborative

use of social networks is increasing their popularity and
spreading the word to a wider audience. Through the
medium of YouTube and Facebook.
• There isn’t a specific gender that Indie Pop strives to
capture. However it’s stylistic origins stemmed from Indie
Rock and 1960’s girl-group pop. Therefore the audience
gender varies between males and females.
• The social demographic is mostly aimed at 15-21 year olds
that attend Higher Education or University. This is because
they connect with the indie genre due to being a very
independent age. Furthermore, the Indie Pop genre is all
about “independent freedom” which men and women of
this age strive to achieve. This audience would fit into the

part-time or full-time jobs that don’t exceed their future
expectations.

• the age demographic for alternative rock is 16-25 year olds. People
from within this demographic are stereotyped to e studying for
exams (school, college, university), go to parties, be at the most
enjoyable time (socially) in their life etc. Maslow’s hierarchy of human
needs is applicable to the age demographic through the social
aspect of having a lot of friends and being part of a group My three
products need to match the ideologies of the primary target
audience because they dictate how successful the product is.
• The audience are mainly males and this could be because many of
the artists present within the genre are males themselves. There is a
good following of alternative rock from females but it’s male
dominated.
• All of the target audience believe that the best possible music videos
have a mixture of narrative and performance. This could be because
of Blumer and Katz audience theory because the target audience
wants surveillance of what’s going on in the world and is shown
through the narrative of music videos. The target audience also
believe that digipaks are the best when they are imaged based. This
could be because image based digipaks are more visually
interesting for the youthful target audience.
6. R&b
• R&B audiences are usually teenagers and young adults aged
between the ages of 13-25 and are mostly females. This could be

shot and what they contain within them. Females are usually

about love, being in love and heartbreak. These type of songs will
appeal to teenage girls and young adults as it usually relates to
them. Fast R&B songs usually will attract to women as they involve
fashion and synergy within the narrative or theme.
