Inside the mind of a SharePoint Solutions ArchitectNoorez Khamis
On any SharePoint project, the core of the solution being built should be designed and architected first before being developed. With the flexibility of SharePoint solutions (specifically SharePoint 2013), there is never one way to design it right. The experienced SharePoint Architect however is able to figure out the best way for the project, constraints and client at hand. This session is meant to give insight to the average SharePoint Professional on what it takes to become and be a SharePoint Architect. It will help guide the aspiring SharePoint Architect on the items that really need to be thought of when designing a SharePoint solution for your client and at the same time divulge some tricks of the trade learned from the countless enterprise SharePoint solutions I have successfully implemented over the years.

It's always been a dilemma -- do you invest in servers, licenses and people to set up and maintain a fully controllable SharePoint infrastructure in-house, or is it time to explore hosting SharePoint off-premise? Legal IT professionals have been struggling with this decision for years.
The on-premise option offers peace of mind from a security and controllability standpoint, but comes saddled with high costs, a demand for resources and limited scalability. SharePoint Online, on the other hand, alleviates the burden associated with SharePoint on-premise by removing the need for servers, software licenses and personnel, and can be rolled out to a large pool of people virtually overnight. However, you'll still need support for integration projects. Join us as we discuss the pros and cons of each option and give you recommendations based on our experiences, deployments and feedback.

You are at a mercy of your IT service provider who has delivered SharePoint to your organisation and you are ready to go live... but your newly appointed SharePoint expert has found plethora of issues!
This session focuses on real world scenario on what went wrong and the steps SharePoint expert recommended and actioned to bring the project back on track to drive the replacement of fileshare with SharePoint 2013 and paving the way for better end user adoption.
SharePoint migrations rarely turn out as you plan them. They are sometimes risky and too often take longer than planned. Over the last 10 years of migrating from SharePoint 2003, 2007, 2010 to the latest versions of SharePoint/Office 365 we’ve seen a consistent theme -- organizations underestimate the complexity and level of effort required for a successful, smooth migration.
Whether you are planning to complete your own migration, or engaging a vendor to assist, this webinar will discuss precautions you can take to avoid the slippery slope experienced in SharePoint migrations.
Join Jill Hannemann, Adam Levithan and our special guest Ryan Tully from Metalogix as they:
- Go through the assessment steps to understand the full landscape of your existing SharePoint environment
- Review methodologies for moving content from one environment to the next
- Outline precautions you should take in migrating to either SharePoint 2013 on-premise or online
Essentials for the SharePoint Power User - SharePoint Engage Raleigh 2017Drew Madelung
Are you a newly minted site owner and you want to know how to get started? Or did your company just roll out SharePoint and you want to learn more about what it can do?
In this session, I will walk through what I believe Power Users need to know when they become site administrators, champions, ninjas, or owners. I will be going through things at an overview level. I will go into detail on some areas in which I have seen the biggest gaps while working with different companies. This session will go through such things as:
• How security works and how you should manage it
• Intro to libraries & lists
• Managing content types and columns
• Get better search driven content
• Building a page with search driven web parts
Abstract: During organizations’ Project Management Lifecycles, a lot of information and useful data gets stored in Project Server, and it gets to be a „project info silo“ very quickly. One way to get out of this trap is using Search –a nice and powerful way to get information about your projects, like documents, schedules, team members, issues, etc. In this session, we’ll demonstrate the keys for a successful Search Based Project Application.

Developing social solutions on Microsoft technologies (SP Social and Yammer)SPC Adriatics
Development of the enterprise social solutions, which merge social computing and well known enterprise csolutions is a fairly new development discipline, which gains ever more on importance and traction. It is empirically proven that the traditional data processing gets more efficient and productive with an enterprise social layer on top. Although we have large software companies leading the way with integrating social layers in their known solutions – e.g. Microsoft Dynamics CRM with Yammer – there is still a lot of need for integration of the enterprise social solutions with the different software applications in companies.
This development session will show how Microsoft’s enterprise social products (SharePoint 2013 and Yammer) – can be integrated with another solutions. It will show how to use these products as a common social layer across the software infrastructure in companies. Session will explore which development possibilities we have, which APIs can we use, how to implement the authentication. It will also show, how to bring such integrated enterprise social layer to the mobile devices.
Last but not least, it will show which of the both products can and should be used in which scenario, what are strengths of the both products, and where there can be feature overlapping.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.

24. Farm Number of
servers
Purpose
Limited Deployment 1-2 Used for product evaluation, development and testing
with a limited number of users
Small farm 3-4 Serve a large number of users and scales out based on
how heavily services are used. These types of farms are
not always fault-tolerant
Medium farm 6+ Serve a large number of users and scales out based on
how heavily services are used. Their goal is a multi-
purpose environment with possible optimalisation.
These farms are always fault-tolerant.
Large farm Mostly a lot Serve a large number of users. Group service
applications, services or databases that have similar
performance characteristics on dedicated servers
Limit Maximum value Limit type Notes Application pools - 10 per web serverThreshold - The maximum number is determined by hardware capabilities. This limit is dependent largely upon: The amount of memory allocated to the web servers. The workload that the farm is serving, that is, the user base and the usage characteristics (a single highly active application pool can utilize 10 GB or more)
As an alternative to the traditional farm design, Microsoft® SharePoint® 2013 topologies can be designed to optimize system resources and to maximize performance for users. Optimizing each tierFront-end servers — Service applications, services, and components that serve user requests directly are placed on front-end servers. These servers are optimized for fast performance. Batch-processing servers — Service applications, services, and components that process background tasks are placed on a middle-tier of servers referred to as batch processing servers. These servers are optimized to maximize system resources. These servers can tolerate greater loads because these tasks do not affect performance observed by users.Database-servers — guidance for deploying database servers remains the same.In a small farm, server roles can be combined on one or two servers. For example, front-end services and batch-processing services can be combined on a single server or on two or more servers to achieve redundancy.
