Biological Evolution Of Cancer And Its Effects On The World
Introduction: Cancer, which is also known as malignant tumor, is a big threat to the humans. As the
development of medical science and technology, many terrible diseases in the history have been
eradicated or controlled such as smallpox, cholera, and phthisis. But why cancer is still threatening
human, making people suffering so much? The reason is that people still don t know the mechanism of
cell canceration.
In the view of biological evolution, the history of cancer is even longer than that of the human being,
because before the appearance of human, there have been other animals and plants living in this
planet, and the malignant tumor may just appear on any kinds of creatures. But the real beginning of
cancer research only start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As for the theory about the origin of canceration, there are 2 main different opinions. One side insists
that the canceration is a result of the change of genes. In another word, it is because the gene mutation
under the influence of the many factors that cause the result. While another side think that the gene
will not change in this process, and the real reason is that the process of the control and expression of
genes comes about mistakes, resulting in abnormal cell differentiation and even abnormal membrane
features and defects of immune system.
The former is called the gene theories, and the latter is known as epigenetic theory. Later, some
scholars combined both of these two theories to explain the mechanism of cancer. And they can be
called comprehensive mechanism. And only after the discovery of oncogenes in human tumors, there
appears to be some breakthrough in the research of the mechanism of carcinogenesis. We will discuss
these different hypotheses of mechanism of carcinogenesis process separately next.
1. Genetic mechanism The theory of mutant of somatic cells is said to be the main representative of
this side. As early as 1914, Boveri, a German scholar has illuminated in his book the origin of cancer
that Originally from a single cell tumors, chromosomal abnormalities must be composed of farmers
and endowed with all the characteristics of tumor cells. In 1923, Bauer systematically raised the

Where is everybody An exploration of the Fermi Paradox
Historical background
Over a 1950 summer lunch at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the great physicist Enrico Fermi
asked his colleagues an unexpected question Don t you ever wonder where everybody is? Laughter
went around the table as everyone immediately knew that he was talking about extraterrestrial
intelligence [1]. If life arises fairly commonly, as Fermi believed, it follows that there should be
advanced civilizations with the desire to visit and colonize Earth close enough to do so. However,
there is no incontrovertible evidence of aliens on Earth, either now or in the past. This is called the
Fermi Paradox. The lack of observational evidence for extraterrestrial intelligence is known as the
Great Silence. [13] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It provides a framework, a blueprint for the quantities one must know in order to determine how many
communicative civilizations exist or have existed in a close enough range to receive communications.
In 1964, Nikolai Kardashev devised a ranking system for the advancement of extraterrestrial
civilizations based upon the magnitude of their energy consumption. If the laws of physics do not vary
throughout the universe, any technologically advanced civilization must use energy. It follows that
more advanced civilizations would consume exponentially more energy. He ranked them into three
categories, Types I III. Type I civilizations consume much less than the energy output of their own
star. The human race is a young Type I civilization. Type II civilizations have harnessed most or all the
energy output of their own star, and begin to do the same to nearby stars. Type III civilizations have
harnessed the total energy output of their galaxy. [4] The types can be thought of as planetary, stellar,
and galactic civilizations.
In an online paper published in 1998, Robin Hanson proposed the idea of a Great Filter. The fact of
the Great Silence, despite the vast and ancient nature of the universe, may be explained by some
probability barrier existing on the

CHAPTER 5: COLONIAL SOCIETY ON THE EVE OF REVOLUTION: 1700 1775
Conquest by the Cradle
Know: Thirteen Original Colonies
1. What was the significance of the tremendous growth of population in Britain s North American
colonies?
Britain had an advantage over America with their population in 1700. If Americans wanted to revolt,
Britain would outnumber them 25 to 1. However, in 1775, with the population increase (and
continuing to increase), Britain s advantage was weakening. There were now only 3 Europeans for
each American. This essentially meant that Britain was losing power over America. More Americans =
more American power.

What was important about the difference?
This religion was EMOTIONAL. They preached with fervor, with intensity, and it was a big change
from the old, monotonous drones of preaching in tradition religion. It was important because it
sparked a change in people, got them going again. They were losing their religion, and the Great
Awakening was the jump start they needed.

Know: Latin and Greek
10. What kind of education could a young person expect in colonial times?
Learning theology and dead languages .
A Provincial Culture
Know: John Trumbull, Charles Wilson Peale, Benjamin West, John Singleton Copley, Benjamin
Franklin
11. Did Americans distinguish themselves in the arts during the colonial period? Explain.
Not really they were still heavily influenced by Britain in this area. Most had to go to England to
fulfill their artsy ambitions, and architecture was simply upgraded to fit the New World s conditions
(however, it still followed the Old World s structure and idea of design).
Pioneer Presses

12. Why was the jury verdict in the Zenger case important?
Because they said he was not guilty. This made way for freedom of press, and the fact that the jury
verdict won made way for an upcoming democracy.

Monotheistic Religions Of Judaism, Christianity And Islam
Judaism, Christianity and Islam are known as monotheistic religions because of the shared belief in a
single all powerful personal god. These religions are also grouped together because they re called the
Abrahamic religions as they claimed to be descent from Abraham. Judaism, Christianity and Islam are
now considered to be global religions based on their scope and impact. Some of their core values like
family, their beliefs about helping others, and respect are shared by these three major monotheistic
religions. This essay seeks to analyze the differences and the similarities between the three religions
(Judaism, Christianity and Islam).
According to htpp://www.worldstopmost.com Christianity and Islam are regarded as the top two
religions in the world with the largest number of followers worldwide. Christianity has an estimated
2.3 billion followers (32% of total population) while Islam has a total of 1.6 billion followers (23% of
total population). Christians followers can be mainly found in Europe, the Americas, Australia,
Philippines, and New Zealand while Islam followers seem to be predominantly in the Middle East,
Central Asia and even Northern Africa. In the contrary followers of Judaism seem to be mainly Jewish
people who continue to follow the believe that Judaism was formed mostly because of the relationship
between God and the children of Israel when they were saved from slavery in Egypt by Moses.
I think that one of the biggest and more predominant

United States Of America For Multiple Years
Health care has been an issue for the United States of America for multiple years. Dental care, a topic
that does not get much attention because people believe it is trivial, plays a major part in people s
lives, particularly children. Gerard van Honthorst s The Tooth Puller shows a dentist pulling a patient s
tooth with five observers watching. Van Honthorst shows how in awe or scared people are of the
dentist. There is a negative outlook on dentists and dental care: people are afraid of the dentist giving
them their negative connotation, while dental care only causes pain in many people eyes. There is a
problem in the health care system and improvement in the system is needed because health care is a
right for every citizen, especially dental care. The United States of America s government should
allow dental therapist to conduct the procedure that normal dentist conduct for free for children under
the age of twelve. The government should fund the teaching, training, and employment of dental
therapists to care for underserved people.
If the students had better access to dental check ups, their dentist could prescribe medicine to help or
schedule other appointments to fix the problems that have arisen with the students. Children call other
students names, which could destroy the other young person s life by losing confidence, not wanting
to go to school, or just giving up on life with suicide. That bully would say mean things to a student in
front of other students. When

The Voices Against War By Thomas Hardy
The Voices Against Wars of Many The voicing of opinions against war was not made common until
around the eighteen hundreds. War was always considered an opportunity for glory and a chance to
prove one s self to his or her fellow soldier and his or her country. However, with the advancement in
technological warfare and physical battle becoming more gruesome, many felt the need to speak out
against the activity of war. Thomas Hardy voices his opinion on the second Boer War through poetry.
The second Boer War witnessed some of the beginnings of more accurate cannons and propelled
explosives, giving South Africa a strong resistance to Great Britain. Wilfred Owen witnessed first
hand of the horrors of World War I with a price of his life. He wrote poetry vividly describing his
treacherous experience on the battlefield. Also Randall Jarrell, served in World War II and used his
experience to write an anti war poem with the imagery of his experience. All of these anti war poems
most be analyzed properly to fully understand how their authors present their message. The
conventions used by Hardy, Owen and Jarrell in their respective anti war poems are the essence of
their messages against the activity of war, and the analysis of the anti war theme.
First, Thomas Hardy uses both imagery and a switch from first to second person to create an anti war
theme in The Man He Killed. By beginning with the imagery of a peaceful and humble setting, Hardy

Diamond Chemical Essay
Diamond Chemicals PLC Executive Summary
Diamond Chemicals is considering two mutually exclusive projects, the Merseyside project and the
Rotterdam project, for the production of polypropylene
When considering the Merseyside project, senior management wants a positive impact on earnings per
share. The addition to earnings per share was £28,800 with an average addition of £2,000 per year2.
Calculated with erosion, the addition to earnings per share was £18,800 with an average addition of
£1,100 per year2. The payback period for the project was 3.10 years, when considering the erosion of
Rotterdam, this would increase to 3.46 years2. The net present value of Merseyside is £15.61 million

The project would have an initial outlay of £9 million and will require the entire line to be shut down
for 45 days. This project would lower energy requirements and have a 7% greater manufacturing
throughput. Also, it is expected to improve its growth margin to 12.5%.

Concerns at Merseyside:
There are also some concerns that have been brought to our attention from different divisions of
Diamond Chemicals. They include:
Concerns of the Transport Division:
Concerns coming from the Transport Division were those of the increased capacity that they would
receive as a result of the Merseyside project. This project would increase the allocation of tank cars to
Merseyside. To realize this expansion, the Transport Division would need to purchase a new rolling
stock. This purchase would cost £2.0 million. As stated earlier, Greystock has left this portion out of

Democracy and Politics in South Korea
Democracy that means the rule of people has been used as a political system since Ancient Greece.
Even though its concept has changed as time goes by, it is still regarded as one of the best political
systems and used in many countries. Unfortunately, most Asian countries did not use this political
system until the middle of the 20th century, so they have a very short history compared with western
countries. Because of that, Asia has had some troubles. For example, Park and Shin (2006) said that
many countries have had military dictatorship which is a common government for a developing
country. A developing country, above all, might want to develop their economy, so they endure
dictatorship because the dictator can make a decision easily and quickly (Park, C. D. Shin, D., 2006).
It also happened in South Korea 50 years ago. In spite of military dictatorship in the past, South Korea
has the most successfully established democracy in Asia (Whitehead, L., 2002).
There is a special history of democracy in South Korea. Democracy was accepted in 1945 in South
Korea because South Korea achieved independence from Japan. Right after independence of Korea
from Japan, they were divided into two countries; North and South Korea. South Korea founded and
developed a democratic government. However, democracy could not be preserved because a military
general, Junghee Park, accomplished the

Swot On The Pestle Analysis Of Lego
Executive Summary
In this report, the association, Lego, its image and present business sector standing have been
inspected in subtle element. Lego (adapted and trademarked as LEGO) is a line of plastic development
toys that are made by The Lego Group, a secretly held organization situated in Billund, Denmark. The
organization s lead item, Lego, comprises of vivid interlocking plastic blocks going with a variety of
apparatuses, puppets called minifigures, and different parts. Lego pieces can be collected and
associated from numerous points of view, to develop protests, for example, vehicles, structures, and
working robots. Anything developed can then be dismembered once more, and the pieces used to
make different articles.
At the outset of the study, PESTLE analysis is carried out in order to understand the external
environment. The competitive landscape, manufacturing bases, distribution network, political ... Show

The PESTLE model investigations the macroeconomic elements of political, natural, social,
innovative, lawful and ecological parts. These parts are examined due to their incredible significance
in the outside environment of the LEGO group. An adjustment in any of these variables can make new
open doors or dangers, which the association will need to adapt to make an effective business. Since
macroeconomic elements are nation particular and the LEGO group is a multinational association then
it is essential that every single significant countries will be investigated to give a sound assessment of
the LEGO group s macroeconomic surroundings.
One of the weaknesses of the PESTLE analysis is that all factors effect each other in various ways. A
political factor like a tax reduction will always have a great impact on the economy and a change in
the technological perspective could change political parameters like trade restrictions.

Prayer Is An Important Part Of Someone s Life
Prayer is something we have an honor of doing. It s the best thing that anyone can do. God stops and
listens. He invites everyone to come in and have a talk with him. God promises to listen to us. God
will answer us if we try and talk to him. Jeremiah 33:3. Some of us have seen prayers answered. It is
something about having alone time with God something we should do often.
I. Pray Daily
God talks to us through His word every time we open up and read the Bible. We speak to God while
we pray. Prayer is an important part of someone s life. We pray and sometimes we praise Him in songs
that we sing. While we be at church or alone. (Philippians 1:3 4) When we face temptations, prayer
can make us feel secure. (Deuteronomy 31:8) God will never leave our side, even though we leave his
side. He will never fail us even though we fail Him. (1 Thessalonians 5:17) Praying without ceasing.
Build a relationship with God. Your prayer life shows how your relationship with God is. It s never too
much prayer time when you talk to the great almighty God that created you and died for you on
Calvary s cross for our sins. God is our best friend our only friend that will not fail us. Praying without
ceasing . Ceasing is to end, to halt, to stop. The Bible says we should keep on praying. God is happy
when we talk with Him to thank Him for what he s done. It is easier for Christians to feel secure by
just praying then to actually PRAY. Too many people are happy with physical blessings and

Personal Statement For My Future Goals Essay
This assessment requires me to reflect on past experiences in physical activity and how I have been
involved in these activities in the past. And how these experiences varied by the contribution towards
my own wellbeing. I will then evaluate this to make strategies for my future lifelong wellbeing in the
future what it should look like.
Physical activities and experiences that I paraitcaped in as I grew up I mainly found swim sessions,
ball rush, golf and cricket as positive experiences as we did them with my family and younger friends
which I really enjoyed doing I found rugby to become a negative experience for me. As in rugby my
friends had stopped playing, as I was too small and got smashed from the larger players so I
participated in other activities. Rugby is a national sport in New Zealand and I have the assumption of
being played by large muscular males and most New Zealand children when growing up. Which in my
case is not true as I m more towards the ectomorph body shape which proves the assumption that the
bigger mesomorph players tended to be better than I was at the time. A positive of this rugby
expericne was that it is a sport that I ve had not family influences to participate in it as many of the
sports I do play have, which can be a positive from this experience. I ve always enjoyed playing golf
as I ve played it all my life since I was little. My dad introduced me to the game and I ve been playing

How Is Catherine The Great Controlled Russia
Catherine the Great also known as Catherine II, (who was the most longest ruling female in Russia)
had ruled Russia form 1762 to 1796. During her time in throne, Catherine had made Russia a more
developed country in many different aspects. Catherine the Great had effected nobility, peasantry,
military, religion and taxes / government spendings. She controlled all of these aspects of Russia and
these are the main reason why she is the absolute monarch.
Like i said Catherine controlled Russia nobility. Nobles were a class of people with high political
static and Catherine the Great had power over them. When Catherine was in throne the nobles called it
the Golden age of Russian nobility, this is because Catherine the great authorized a new law that
would free the nobles form compulsory military. She not only did that, she build many mansions for
them (and there were designed in western designs due to that that was the main style back then).
Finally Catherine wrote manuals for the education for the young noble girls and she also assigned a

impacted by all of the above every day. Codes of Practice and Occupational Standards form our

impact the people we serve. For example, a code of practice in action, and in a very general sense may
be staff supporting, but also providing the tools, for individuals to become more independent. Too
much support, they would learn dependence. Tools alone without support, they may not understand
how to use them or when to use them. Occupational Standards would be a general guide for each
career within a given field, that expresses the foundational do s and don ts for each. Example, we
would provide a minimum amount of service, documented and within the guidelines for the
individual, while if we offered additional services that are needed and appropriate to the individual,
that would be good. Laws protect for the most part. Most laws are based on safety. So legislation that
offers greater protection for the people we serve, and laws that provide a clear expectation for staff
which if we follow judiciously, also protects us are incorporated

Extending Education System
Extending the Education System
Andy Nesbitt, superintendent of education for the Grand Erie District School Board stated in an
interview in 2011, There is no exact way to measure how many students return for a fifth year and the
number varies from year to year and at different schools. But, on average, he said that 40% to 50% of
high schoolers are returning for an extra year of study (Ruby). Why is this number so high? In 1921,
the Ontario government enforced a tremendous idea that would improve the education system. They

The Issue Of Women s Suffrage
Blindness separates people from things; deafness separates people from people. (Helen Keller). The
biggest problem when it comes to women s rights is that people refuse to hear that there is a problem.
This situation is very familiar in today s world. People refuse to understand that even though women
do have more rights than they did in the past, there are still issues that need to be addressed. Women s
suffrage is one of the most respected and memorable historical events. This movement has been
forgotten because it has been so long ago, men and women both are losing respect for women s rights.

Humanitarian reforms such as the elimination of cruel punishment, the dissemination of empathy

Everyday, someone is denied of their natural born rights. Whether it be a woman, man, homosexual,

Intellectual Property Rights And Digital Pirating
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS AND DIGITAL PIRATING
Luke Telfer
STATEMENT OF THE ISSUE
The idea of intellectual property can be traced back to ancient Greece with the first known reference
involving the protection of culinary recipes developed by chefs. According to the World Intellectual
Property Organization, intellectual property refers to creations of the mind: inventions; literary and
artistic works; and symbols, names and images used in commerce.
The violation of intellectual property rights can take many forms, however the main ethical issue to be
examined here is that of digital piracy of copyrighted artistic works and of the variety that involves
individual consumption of such material (as opposed to blatant profiteering of the ... Show more

ARGUMENTS IN FAVOR OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
There are several approaches to defending the idea of intellectual property rights, each with their own
strengths and weaknesses. Such approaches generally take one of three largely teleological forms:
personality theory, utilitarian rationale, and Lockean arguments. Each of these forms advocates for the
value of intellectual property rights in general and not specifically toward any particular type of
intellectual property.
Personality Theory
Personality based justifications for intellectual property stem largely from Georg Wilhelm Friedrich
Hegel s ideas on human will, personality, and freedom. Hegel insists that human will is the
fundamental property of existence and that our will is perpetually trying to achieve actuality. This
eternal struggle is therefore the essence of personality and it is in part manifested externally through
our property. With this view in mind, creative works are necessarily the property of the creator and the
creator ought to have complete control over them.
This is an important view for many forms of creation, but it is relatively unclear in how it pertains to
digital copies of a creation. For example, defacing a classical painting would be seen as immoral even
if the perpetrator has legally acquired ownership of the painting because the creator still has certain
rights over the creation. However, if a

Rasputin Influence
Rasputin played a part in the fall of the royal family but he was not the main reason. The Tsar had no
one to support and protect his family due to not seeing to civilians needs. The overthrow of the Tsarist
government was the ending of the oppression and tyranny. Rasputin however did manipulate his
ability to influence government decisions. The Romanov Empire in Russia was a dynasty that had
been in power for over three hundred years and sadly ended with the last Romanov family being
murdered. Rasputin, although he was not royalty, he was close to the family and had a hand in their
downfall but was not the main reason for the downfall (Source J). There was already dissatisfaction

Depressio Van Gogh Mental Health Research Paper
Van Gogh and Mental Health
Vincent Van Gogh was possibly the most notable artist of the impressionist movement. However,
beyond the brilliant artwork was a man that suffered from debilitating illness. Van Gogh spent years
struggling with bouts of depression interrupted by mania and anxiety. His state of mind was well
documented in letters that he wrote to his brother Theo, an art dealer living in Paris. Using these
letters many modern psychologists have tried to accurately posthumously diagnose the illness of Van
Gogh. Accurate diagnosis of a living patient is already an endeavor and many patients don t receive an
official diagnosis. Posthumous diagnosis is even more difficult because they have limited information
about the patient. When it comes to mental illness though, the official diagnosis is not that important,
it exists mostly so the patient has a name for what they are feeling. What is more important is
identifying and recognizing the symptoms that affect the patient s life. Van Gogh experienced more
than his fair share of symptoms and often would write to his brother about how these symptoms
affected his work as an artist.

Poverty In A Tale Of Two Cities
The rich s desire to have it all and the poor s ability to barely make ends meet are both depicted in the

desperation in more intense and harsh ways than people today, however the reality is poverty has
stricken families for generations. While there is poverty all over the world there is also greed. CEOs,
presidents, kings and queens all live beyond their needs. The French revolution started because the
people living in poverty were tired of being treated as inferior to the rich. The poor rose up in an

Unemployment is one of the major causes for economic troubles for the poor. In Elizabeth Warren s
America Without a Middle Class, it is said that today one in five American s is unemployed. Today,
America is risking the formation of a new underclass. An article Soaring Poverty Casts Spotlight on
Lost Decade by Sabrina Tavernise adds to this increasing unemployment rate by saying that young,
less educated, mainly men, can t support their children and form stable families because they are
jobless. Not having a job is one of the main causes as to why the under class is drowning in debt and
why they have no money. Lack of jobs was also a major problem for many poor people in the French
Revolution Era. Family owned businesses and stands were not producing enough money to keep the
people off the streets. Another main factor causing the poor to stay poor is the lack of security.
Elizabeth Warren in her article America Without a Middle Class says that going to college and finding
a good job no longer guarantees economic safety. Sabrina Tavernise s Soaring Poverty Casts Spotlight

average wage. This is particularly shocking because students think going to college will help them

Addiction In Plato s The Allegory Of The Cave
Blinded by Ignorance
The world is full of distractions to keep us comfortable with living in a false reality, one of the biggest
distractions being the internet. The invention of the internet has accommodated us with an immense
amount of knowledge; ironically, the internet also conditions us to accept shallow knowledge as truth.
Plato argues that each person possesses some form of ignorance, and that it is our job to break free
from our chains to truly see the world in its purest form. In The Allegory of the Cave, Plato uses
inductive reasoning through a conversation, symbolism, and imagery to challenge society s view of
reality and compel his readers to stop accepting the world as incomplete and inaccurate.
The conversation written throughout The Allegory of the Cave forms a very distinctive teacher/student
relationship. This forces the reader to engage with the text, almost as if they were having a
conversation with Plato himself. Plato builds his to his student little by little, asking questions each
step of the way,
And if the objects are being carried in like manner they would only see the shadows? yes, he said
And if they were able to converse with one another, would they not suppose that they were naming
what was actually before them? very true. (pp. 583)
By using inductive reasoning, Plato demands his readers to question their own idea of what reality is.
Plato applies symbolism throughout his plea so that his readers truly understand how we tend to
accept

Essay on Integral Philosophy of Education
Integral Philosophy of Education
ABSTRACT: Education, an action, is a process, a development of the imperfect human being
intentionally directed at achieving the ideal of human plenitude in the best possible manner. This is a
description of the educational process based on the human being who travels toward plenitude, a point
of arrival; the human being who achieves his or her own perfection in the best possible manner; and a
method: intentional guidance towards plenitude in the harmonious formation of humanity. It is not
enough to say what education is or what it is like. It is necessary to clarify what education is for. The
harmonious development of essential, integral and vocational abilities makes the student more perfect

It is a method: intentionally guiding a human being towards the plenitude of the harmonious formation
of man. Personalized education does not exclude that which is essential common and equal in all
human beings; instead, it invigorates and justifies the individual himself or his individual personality.
Body and soul are susceptible to acquiring perfection and beauty, as Plato wished. This perfection
assumes there is a natural, progressive and systematic development of all of man s superior abilities.
Education is about preparing us for an integral life and for that which comes after our worldly
existence. For that reason, the organization of habits capable of adapting individuals to their physical
and social environment are so important. It would, however, be an error to limit us, as pragmatists do,
to the organization of habits and the adaptation of individuals to their circumstances. The formation of
men: as multi dimensional and harmonious human beings and not just as specialists is fundamental. In
this sense, education is the intentional perfection of uniquely human powers through systematic
activities exercised by teachers with learners.
The individual who receives education is an imperfect person capable of perfection. A person becomes
educated because he is able to be educated; because his ability to acquire education

Why The Bathroom Is A Basic Necessity
Going to the bathroom is a basic necessity that everyone does. With this necessity comes the need for
bathrooms so the person can conduct their business in a safe and clean environment. However, this
right is not available to everyone in some cultures. Women in India still lack a proper place to relieve
themselves on a daily basis, which forces them to defecate in the open, causing rape, illness and health
problems, improper feminine hygiene, shame and humility.
Rape and vulnerability are some of the greatest concerns the women face. In May of 2014, in Katra
village in Uttar Pradesh state, two sisters were found hanging in a mango tree after they were gang
raped (Hjelmgaard). The two girls, aged 14 and 15, had gone into the fields near where they lived
because there was no toilet in their home (Hjelmgaard). The girls deaths could have been easily
prevented if they had a toilet in their home (McCarthy). These girls were not alone. Goldberg adds
that, Every 30 minutes a woman in India is raped, and it s often the impoverished women who relieve
themselves in the open who are targeted. To avoid being preyed upon, the women now go in pairs or
groups to the fields to relieve themselves. As another precaution, they go before dawn and then hold it
until dark (McCarthy).

Leadership And The New Science
Leadership vs Management Leadership and management are often referred to as the same thing.
However, researchers are starting to change the way leadership is seen. The very root of the word
leadership implies helping lead one on a journey, while management s root suggests submission. With
these pieces of information as lenses, it becomes easier to see the difference. In Margaret J. Wheatley
s book, Leadership and the New Science, she makes a simple statement: Management s task is to
enforce control, to keep information contained, to pass it down in such a way that no newness occurs
(Wheatley, 2006, p. 97). This, along with much more of her and others wisdom, emphasizes the
difference between leadership and management. Additionally, ... Show more content on

Management is positional. It is said that you can t choose your boss but you choose your leader.
Contrary to public belief, leaders aren t always those in power. In tandem, those in power aren t
always utilizing leadership. While researchers have usually focused on those in power, the studies
have failed to find the exact traits and behaviors needed for successful leaders. Therefore, leadership
cannot be taught. However, leadership can be learned. Leadership boils down to people. A leader has
followers. The leader motivates and empathizes based on what they know is important to an
individual. Changing people to the better to change things for the better is the essence of leadership:
walking the journey with the follower, instead of just giving directions (management).
While leadership seems to be the ideal, John Kotter says, If you have to choose between leadership or
management, choose management every time. Managers do. While this is true, it is most applicable to
measurable outcomes. When organizations are viewed as machines, management succeeds. The
Newtonian view of organizations indeed calls for management, as people are seen as things. This
works perfectly in theoretical practice. However, when introduced to reality, it begins to fall apart.
Even though people can be treated like things, it won t allow for creativity and growth. Managers
attempt motivation through competitions and pressure, which can lead to employees using their
creativity to refuse to

Influence of Iliad to Troy
First off, Homer s Iliad was the main source of influence for Wolfgang Petersen s film, Troy. However,
even though it is directly influenced by the poem, Troy does not stay true to the poem for the entire
movie. Some major difference s between Homer s Iliad and Wolfgang Petersen s film Troy, is that
there was no mention of the Gods being participants in the battle of Troy. This was a major plot point
in Homer s Iliad, as the Gods who fought on the battlefield had somewhat of an influence on the
outcome of each battle and eventually the outcome of the war. By taking out the God element that the
original poem had, Wolfgang Petersen has given the film more room for human emotions. This allows
themes like love to be much more emphasised than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Petersen s version of the Trojan war, stays true to the basic plot line of the actual Trojan war detailed

Impact Of The Human Rights Act 1998 On Clinical
Impact of the Human Rights Act 1998 on clinical (medical) negligence
Tort law is a considerably old branch of English law, covering a wide range of areas within such as
defamation, nuisance, trespass and, most importantly, negligence. The latter set out the modern
concept of negligence by means of Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] AC 562. Furthermore, in twentieth
century a number of fundamental elements were established in negligence, elevating its significance
above all other areas of tort law. Most problematic and difficult subgroup of negligence is clinical
negligence, where doctor are held to another standards. Nonetheless, the old foundations were
disturbed by the enforcement of the Human Rights Act 1998, which was a successful attempt to
incorporate the European Convention of Human Rights into English domestic law. It is applied
directly or indirectly into many areas of law, clinical negligence in torts in particular, adding multiple
complications as it has to comply with the new Act. The influence of the HRA is yet to be fully
researched professionally and amended. In attempt to explore the impact of the HRA 1998 on clinical

Although the underlying philosophies of patient centered care and compassion remain consistent

correlation between the four year degree nursing education and improved patient outcomes. In the

Propaganda Techniques Of Today s Advertising By Ann...
In Propaganda Techniques in Today s Advertising by Ann McClintock, the author discusses how
Americans are being brainwashed by advertisements and the different techniques they use to catch our
attention. Ads are simply everywhere we look, it is impossible to get through the day without seeing
one. All advertising companies put tons of research into how consumers spend money or even vote.
Once these companies finish their research, they create advertisements that appeal to the masses. The
basic propaganda techniques that McClintock writes about are Name Calling, Glittering Generalities,
Transfer, Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card Stacking, and Bandwagon. Each one of these propaganda
techniques is used in specific ways by advertisers to sell their product or service to consumers. I have
selected a political ad which uses the Glittering Generalities technique, a coffee ad that uses Transfer
technique, a soda ad that uses the Testimonial technique, and a soup ad that uses the Name Calling
technique.
First, the political ad I choose used the Glittering Generalities technique in which the Donald Trump
used a certain slogan in hopes to sway voters. In this ad Mr. Trump is telling potential voters that a
vote for him is a vote to take back our country. The phrase used is vague and may not mean the same
to you as it does to me. McClintock states, The ads for politicians and political causes often use
glittering generalities because such buzzwords can influence votes (698).

Poetry Essay Beauty is a subjective idea that focuses on the characteristics preferable to a single
species that gives an advantage over another and at the cost of another species survival. Humans have
created astounding empires with beautiful cities and monuments because they were the most
progressive species that are able to do so because of their capacity for violence. Some empires fear for
their survival, so they must eliminate any threat whether it be humans or other animals. The poem,
Thanks by Yusef Komunyakaa, it symbolizes how humans can become single minded only driven by
their own personal desires at the sake of anyone else. Humans naturally commit ugly atrocities to
progress their own beauty, or at least idea of, and they instinctively oppose nature because mankind is
the dark side of nature. The poem describes the life of a man during the Vietnam War, a conflict
involving the United States and local Vietnamese who supported a communist regime, and how
unexplainable sporadic events saved his life. He gives thanks to an unknown force that saves his life

The Effects Of Immune System On The Body
Immunity
MersihaFrlj
Herzing University, Minneapolis MN
The purpose of the immune system is to prevent and minimize infections; this is how the body
protects us from microbes that would otherwise make us ill or kill us (Dugdale, 2013). The immune
system works by differentiating between our own cells (self antigens), foreign cells (antigens), and
pathogenic microbes (Dugdale, 2013). When our cells discover anything unfamiliar, our immune
system works to destroy it(Dug dale, 2013). If the immune system cannot activate to kill foreign cells,
we can get infections (Dugdale, 2013). Conversely, if it is activated without any foreign cells present it
can cause pathopysiological problems (Dugdale,2013). This paper will focus on the ... Show more

A serum is an injection of proteins from a non human source (Hunt, 2014).The immune system can
attack the skin, kidneys, lungs, blood vessels, joints, and other organs (Hunt, 2014). Lastly, Cell
mediated (Type IV) ,or Delayed, Hypersensitivity happens over 48 72 hours and sometimes 21 28
days after exposure (Hunt, 2014). A prime example would be a tuberculin test, where after 48 hours,
the lesion can become inflamed and erythematic (Hunt, 2014).
Immunodeficiency and Affect on the Body WHO recognizes more than 220 immunodeficiency
diseases (Specific Disease Type, 2015). These diseases are also chronic and happen when part of the
immune system is defective, missing, or not functioning the way it should ( Specific Disease Type,
2015). These type of disease can be an antibody deficiency, a cellular immunodeficiency, or an innate
immune disorder (Specific Disease Type, 2013). One innate immune disorder is HIV (Pagana, 2015).
This is a type of retrovirus that contains a protein and depresses the immune system (Pagana, 2015).
Antibody deficiencies affect the upper respiratory, sinuses, or lungs (Specific Disease Type,
2013).Finally, cellular immunodeficiency can cause viral, fungal, and bacterial infections in humans
(Specific Disease Type, 2013).
Autoimmunity and Affect on the Body When an individual has an autoimmune disorder, their body
cannot distinguish between self antigens

The Korean Humanitarian Crisis and the Karabakh Conflict
Part 1 The West has known of the Korean Humanitarian Crisis for decades in fact an estimated 3.5
million North Koreans may have died from starvation in the 1990s, and more than 10 million, or about
1/3 of the population, suffers from extreme poverty and starvation like conditions. Even though North
Korea has one of the largest allocations of food aid in the world over a million tons annually, famine
persists because of the secretive nature of the country. North Korea is, in fact, in economic meltdown
and crisis, total international isolation, and continued propaganda and manipulation of all information.
One fundamental principle in Korea, called juche, is roughly translated as self sufficiency. Heaped
along the docks, though, are tons of rice stamped Gifts of the UN or Gifts of the USA, often left to rot
because the population is fearful of being punished for eating Western food. Weather patterns have
changed in 2012 as well, and downpours, winds and even typhoons have hit the country so that since
June, thousands have been left without potable water; have had no electricity, and little access to food
and supplies. Not only is the population starving, but the risk of water borne disease and respiratory
failure also hurts the population. Noted by LiNK, the real crisis in North Korea is about 24 million
people trying to live under a cruel and oppressive system in which even the most basic rights are
ignored. This is not material meant to be propaganda, it is confirmed

Big Time College Sports
Big time college sports... selects athletes mainly for their athletics, not academics, interests, and
abilities this shows that in reality colleges view athletes more as athletes students than student athletes
(Eckard 211). This only goes to show why the graduation rate for college athletes is so low. However
higher education make their graduation rate seem more favorable so that they can continue to get and
recruit more skilled amateur players to generate millions of dollars for their facilities. Although some
may say colleges do a effective job of taking care of and graduating their student athletes, conversely
colleges student athletes graduation rate is low and the student athletes don t get what they desire. If
colleges start putting the students first in the term student athletes then there would be more college
student athletes making the grade.
Many colleges say they have good graduation rates for athletes when the truth is their graduation rate
for students is very low.
However higher education facilities are trying to improve their graduation rate for athletes. Some are
doing it by giving the students a valuable education, while others are doing is by using scandals. The
author, Paul M. Barrett explains in Bad Sports the scandals that some colleges ... Show more content

Paul Barrett s article, Bad Sports , includes how former North carolina Governor James Martin
underwent an internal investigation of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The result of
Martin s investigation was that he found approximately 216 corrupted courses and 560 unauthorized
grade changes. This is yet another example of how the university was depriving the student athletes of
a valuable education they desire. Instead of making them earn the grade, they were giving it to them;
which is not the same as giving them an

  • 2. Biological Evolution Of Cancer And Its Effects On The World Introduction: Cancer, which is also known as malignant tumor, is a big threat to the humans. As the development of medical science and technology, many terrible diseases in the history have been eradicated or controlled such as smallpox, cholera, and phthisis. But why cancer is still threatening human, making people suffering so much? The reason is that people still don t know the mechanism of cell canceration. In the view of biological evolution, the history of cancer is even longer than that of the human being, because before the appearance of human, there have been other animals and plants living in this planet, and the malignant tumor may just appear on any kinds of creatures. But the real beginning of cancer research only start ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As for the theory about the origin of canceration, there are 2 main different opinions. One side insists that the canceration is a result of the change of genes. In another word, it is because the gene mutation under the influence of the many factors that cause the result. While another side think that the gene will not change in this process, and the real reason is that the process of the control and expression of genes comes about mistakes, resulting in abnormal cell differentiation and even abnormal membrane features and defects of immune system. The former is called the gene theories, and the latter is known as epigenetic theory. Later, some scholars combined both of these two theories to explain the mechanism of cancer. And they can be called comprehensive mechanism. And only after the discovery of oncogenes in human tumors, there appears to be some breakthrough in the research of the mechanism of carcinogenesis. Where is everybody An exploration of the Fermi Paradox Historical background Over a 1950 summer lunch at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the great physicist Enrico Fermi asked his colleagues an unexpected question Don t you ever wonder where everybody is? Laughter went around the table as everyone immediately knew that he was talking about extraterrestrial intelligence [1]. If life arises fairly commonly, as Fermi believed, it follows that there should be advanced civilizations with the desire to visit and colonize Earth close enough to do so. However, there is no incontrovertible evidence of aliens on Earth, either now or in the past. This is called the Fermi Paradox. The lack of observational evidence for extraterrestrial intelligence is known as the Great Silence. [13] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It provides a framework, a blueprint for the quantities one must know in order to determine how many communicative civilizations exist or have existed in a close enough range to receive communications. In 1964, Nikolai Kardashev devised a ranking system for the advancement of extraterrestrial civilizations based upon the magnitude of their energy consumption. If the laws of physics do not vary throughout the universe, any technologically advanced civilization must use energy. It follows that more advanced civilizations would consume exponentially more energy. He ranked them into three categories, Types I III. Type I civilizations consume much less than the energy output of their own star. The human race is a young Type I civilization. Type II civilizations have harnessed most or all the energy output of their own star, and begin to do the same to nearby stars. Type III civilizations have harnessed the total energy output of their galaxy. [4] The types can be thought of as planetary, stellar, and galactic civilizations. Dental care, a topic that does not get much attention because people believe it is trivial, plays a major part in people s lives, particularly children. Gerard van Honthorst s The Tooth Puller shows a dentist pulling a patient s tooth with five observers watching. Van Honthorst shows how in awe or scared people are of the dentist. There is a negative outlook on dentists and dental care: people are afraid of the dentist giving them their negative connotation, while dental care only causes pain in many people eyes. There is a problem in the health care system and improvement in the system is needed because health care is a right for every citizen, especially dental care. The United States of America s government should allow dental therapist to conduct the procedure that normal dentist conduct for free for children under the age of twelve. The government should fund the teaching, training, and employment of dental therapists to care for underserved people. War was always considered an opportunity for glory and a chance to prove one s self to his or her fellow soldier and his or her country. However, with the advancement in technological warfare and physical battle becoming more gruesome, many felt the need to speak out against the activity of war. Thomas Hardy voices his opinion on the second Boer War through poetry. The second Boer War witnessed some of the beginnings of more accurate cannons and propelled explosives, giving South Africa a strong resistance to Great Britain. Wilfred Owen witnessed first hand of the horrors of World War I with a price of his life. He wrote poetry vividly describing his treacherous experience on the battlefield. Also Randall Jarrell, served in World War II and used his experience to write an anti war poem with the imagery of his experience. Even though its concept has changed as time goes by, it is still regarded as one of the best political systems and used in many countries. Unfortunately, most Asian countries did not use this political system until the middle of the 20th century, so they have a very short history compared with western countries. Because of that, Asia has had some troubles. For example, Park and Shin (2006) said that many countries have had military dictatorship which is a common government for a developing country. A developing country, above all, might want to develop their economy, so they endure dictatorship because the dictator can make a decision easily and quickly (Park, C. D. Shin, D., 2006). It also happened in South Korea 50 years ago. In spite of military dictatorship in the past, South Korea has the most successfully established democracy in Asia (Whitehead, L., 2002). There is a special history of democracy in South Korea. Democracy was accepted in 1945 in South Korea because South Korea achieved independence from Japan. That is why women should have equal rights, to their bodies, labor payment, and health care. The life of a person is very valuable, and should be treated as such. Intellectual Property Rights And Digital Pirating INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS AND DIGITAL PIRATING Luke Telfer STATEMENT OF THE ISSUE The idea of intellectual property can be traced back to ancient Greece with the first known reference involving the protection of culinary recipes developed by chefs. According to the World Intellectual Property Organization, intellectual property refers to creations of the mind: inventions; literary and artistic works; and symbols, names and images used in commerce. The violation of intellectual property rights can take many forms, however the main ethical issue to be examined here is that of digital piracy of copyrighted artistic works and of the variety that involves individual consumption of such material (as opposed to blatant profiteering of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ARGUMENTS IN FAVOR OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS There are several approaches to defending the idea of intellectual property rights, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Such approaches generally take one of three largely teleological forms: personality theory, utilitarian rationale, and Lockean arguments. Each of these forms advocates for the value of intellectual property rights in general and not specifically toward any particular type of intellectual property. Personality Theory Personality based justifications for intellectual property stem largely from Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel s ideas on human will, personality, and freedom. Hegel insists that human will is the fundamental property of existence and that our will is perpetually trying to achieve actuality. This eternal struggle is therefore the essence of personality and it is in part manifested externally through our property. With this view in mind, creative works are necessarily the property of the creator and the creator ought to have complete control over them. This is an important view for many forms of creation, but it is relatively unclear in how it pertains to digital copies of a creation. For example, defacing a classical painting would be seen as immoral even if the perpetrator has legally acquired ownership of the painting because the creator still has certain rights over the creation. However, beyond the brilliant artwork was a man that suffered from debilitating illness. Van Gogh spent years struggling with bouts of depression interrupted by mania and anxiety. His state of mind was well documented in letters that he wrote to his brother Theo, an art dealer living in Paris. Using these letters many modern psychologists have tried to accurately posthumously diagnose the illness of Van Gogh. Accurate diagnosis of a living patient is already an endeavor and many patients don t receive an official diagnosis. Posthumous diagnosis is even more difficult because they have limited information about the patient. When it comes to mental illness though, the official diagnosis is not that important, it exists mostly so the patient has a name for what they are feeling. What is more important is identifying and recognizing the symptoms that affect the patient s life. Van Gogh experienced more than his fair share of symptoms and often would write to his brother about how these symptoms affected his work as an artist. The invention of the internet has accommodated us with an immense amount of knowledge; ironically, the internet also conditions us to accept shallow knowledge as truth. Plato argues that each person possesses some form of ignorance, and that it is our job to break free from our chains to truly see the world in its purest form. In The Allegory of the Cave, Plato uses inductive reasoning through a conversation, symbolism, and imagery to challenge society s view of reality and compel his readers to stop accepting the world as incomplete and inaccurate. It is a method: intentionally guiding a human being towards the plenitude of the harmonious formation of man. Personalized education does not exclude that which is essential common and equal in all human beings; instead, it invigorates and justifies the individual himself or his individual personality. Body and soul are susceptible to acquiring perfection and beauty, as Plato wished. This perfection assumes there is a natural, progressive and systematic development of all of man s superior abilities. Education is about preparing us for an integral life and for that which comes after our worldly existence. For that reason, the organization of habits capable of adapting individuals to their physical and social environment are so important. It would, however, be an error to limit us, as pragmatists do, to the organization of habits and the adaptation of individuals to their circumstances. The formation of men: as multi dimensional and harmonious human beings and not just as specialists is fundamental. In this sense, education is the intentional perfection of uniquely human powers through systematic activities exercised by teachers with learners. The individual who receives education is an imperfect person capable of perfection. A person becomes educated because he is able to be educated; because his ability to acquire education ... With this necessity comes the need for bathrooms so the person can conduct their business in a safe and clean environment. However, this right is not available to everyone in some cultures. Women in India still lack a proper place to relieve themselves on a daily basis, which forces them to defecate in the open, causing rape, illness and health problems, improper feminine hygiene, shame and humility. Rape and vulnerability are some of the greatest concerns the women face. In May of 2014, in Katra village in Uttar Pradesh state, two sisters were found hanging in a mango tree after they were gang raped (Hjelmgaard). The two girls, aged 14 and 15, had gone into the fields near where they lived because there was no toilet in their home (Hjelmgaard). The girls deaths could have been easily prevented if they had a toilet in their home (McCarthy). These girls were not alone. Goldberg adds that, Every 30 minutes a woman in India is raped, and it s often the impoverished women who relieve themselves in the open who are targeted. To avoid being preyed upon, the women now go in pairs or groups to the fields to relieve themselves. As another precaution, they go before dawn and then hold it until dark (McCarthy). While researchers have usually focused on those in power, the studies have failed to find the exact traits and behaviors needed for successful leaders. Therefore, leadership cannot be taught. However, leadership can be learned. Leadership boils down to people. A leader has followers. The leader motivates and empathizes based on what they know is important to an individual. Changing people to the better to change things for the better is the essence of leadership: walking the journey with the follower, instead of just giving directions (management). While leadership seems to be the ideal, John Kotter says, If you have to choose between leadership or management, choose management every time. Managers do. The Newtonian view of organizations indeed calls for management, as people are seen as things. This works perfectly in theoretical practice. Humans have created astounding empires with beautiful cities and monuments because they were the most progressive species that are able to do so because of their capacity for violence.
