Industrial Revolution DBQ Essay
During the nineteenth century, the Industrial Revolution made a significant political, economical, and
social change throughout Western Europe. The Industrial Revolution was brought on, partly, due to the
English civil war. During the Industrial Revolution, England experienced major advances in
transportation, agriculture, and manufacturing, which spread throughout Europe. By the 1830s most
European countries started railroad construction and the mechanization of manufacturing (Hunt, 654).
One of the most significant changes that occurred during this time period was the shift of labor from
small farms in rural areas to large factories in urbanized cities. The technology developed during this
period, including the seed drill, threshing machinery, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Land owners moved to cities to work in factories, becoming part of the working class. The working
class became the majority. Politicians depended on the ordinary men of the working class for their
votes. This time period is also referred to as an age of ideology associated with the ideas of liberalism,
conservatism, socialism, and free market economics. The Boss System was in effect by the Second
Industrial Revolution. Politicians, running for office, used immigrants to bolster their own position by
offering them incentives or promising them jobs in factories. In return immigrants voted for these
politicians. This enabled the political party in power to maintain power. Politicians were very corrupt
and were often lining their own pockets . The Second Industrial Revolution eventually led to the 18th
amendment, passing prohibition, and the 19th amendment, legalizing women s voting rights. During
this period the idea of communism was developed by Karl Marx. This was the positive supersession of
private property as human self estrangement (Karl Marx: Scientific Socialism). Social Democracy
signified the entrance of socialists into traditional politics. Socialists formed political parties and ran

How 5-HT modulates NMDA receptor activation is a key...
How 5 HT modulates NMDA receptor activation is a key question of interest. Despite being cation
channels, NMDA receptors have non linear, voltage dependent conductance (Mayer and Westbrook,
1987). This property results from the voltage dependent Mg2+ blockade of the receptor channels
(Mayer et al., 1984; Nowak et al., 1984) and thus leads to the negative slope conductance in the
current voltage relationship (i.e. I V curve; Nowak et al., 1984; Flatman et al., 1983; MacDonald et al.,
1982). Because of the voltage dependent conductance, NMDA receptor activation generates intrinsic
voltage oscillations in spinal neurons of rat (Hochman et al., 1994a; Hochman et al., 1994b) and
amphibian (Sillar and Simmers, 1994a; Sillar and Simmers, 1994b) ... Show more content on

In the cord preparations with TTX treatment, 5 HT application reintroduced the negative slope
conductance in the I V curve of healthy motoneurons failing to show the negative slope conductance
in the presence of NMDA alone (Schmidt and Jordan, 2000). Moreover, in other motoneurons
showing the negative slope conductance in the presence of NMDA alone, 5 HT caused the negative
slope conductance to shift toward the hyperpolarizing direction, which could be reversed by 5 HT
antagonist mianserin (Schmidt and Jordan, 2000). Reducing the bath concentration of Mg2+ also
mimicked the hyperpolarizing shift of the negative slope conductance by 5 HT (Schmidt and Jordan,
2000). Via 5 HT2 receptor activation, protein kinase C (PKC) can enhance the hyperpolarizing shift of
the negative slope conductance in the I V curve of NMDA receptors and also reduce Mg2+ blockade
of the receptor channels (Blank et al., 1996; Chen and Huang, 1992). Therefore, the effect of 5 HT on
the negative slope conductance of NMDA receptors may result from reduction of Mg2+ blockade of
the receptor channels. Even more interestingly, Li and Zhuo (1998) discovered that 5 HT can induce
the transformation of silent glutamatergic synapses into functional ones in some rat superficial dorsal
horn neurons (Li and Zhuo, 1998). They detected silent synapses, which are excitatory postsynaptic
currents mediated by NMDA receptors, by depolarizing the cells from 70 mV to +40 mV (Li and
Zhuo, 1998). However, 5 HT

Critique Of Andy Pye s The Internet Of Things
Critique of Andy Pye s The Internet of Things: Connecting the Unconnected
What the Internet of Things is and how it works
The internet of things (IoT) is comparable to the internet in how it provides communication
connections over a large area public network. The internet is used to connect people to each other
using device connections to a main stream network. The IoT is currently a conceptual construct of a
network system working as a conduit to serve as a direct line of communication for multiple electrical
operated objects. In theory if an object has an on/off toggle switch, then the object will eventually be
able to be connected to the system. The purpose of the IoT is to provide a medium to connect
electrical devices allowing them to work in unison in effort to improve the efficiency of their
operations. Advanced algorithms drive these devices to complete complex decision making tasks in
real time scenarios to improve the efficiency of their operations (Pye, 2014).
Conceptually the IoT is in the infancy stage, but the foundation for its realization has begun with the
development of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This upgrade from the Internet Protocol version
4 (IPv4) corrects the issue of limited Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses. By expanding the number of IP
addresses available it ensures new objects will be able to connect and communicate over the vast
network (Pye, 2014).

Understanding The Distributions Of Religions
To understand the distributions of religions, beliefs must be separated first. Universalizing religions
are religions trying to appeal to all people globally, not just to one culture or location. Ethnic religions
appeal primarily to one group of people living in one place. Atheism is the belief that there is no God
and Agnosticism is the belief that the fact that there is a God or no God cannot be proven.
Christianity is a universalizing religion. It is the dominant religion in North America, South America,
Europe, and Australia. Countries with a Christian majority exist in Africa and Asia as well. There are
three major branches of Christianity Roman Catholicism, Protestantism, and Orthodoxy. In Europe,
Roman Catholicism is the dominant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Europe, Muslims account for only 5% of the population, and most of them emigrated from African
colonies where they adopted the religion to Europe. In North America, the number of followers varies
from 1 to 5 million. Most of these followers emigrated from Asian, African, and Arab countries.
Buddhism is clustered in East and Southeast Asia. Similar to other religions, there are three branches
Mahayana, Theravada, and Vajrayana. Mahayana Buddhists live primarily in China, Japan, and Korea
and make up 56% of Buddhists. Theravada Buddhists live primarily in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Sri
Lanka, and Thailand and make up 38% of Buddhists. Vajrayana Buddhists live primarily in Tibet and
Mongolia and make up 6% of Buddhists. An example of an Ethnic religion is Hinduism, which has
900 million adherents. Most of them live in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Other ethnic religions
include Confucianism, Taoism, Primal indigenous, African traditional, Spiritism, and Judaism.
Different religions have different origins. Theravada Buddhism believes that Buddhism is a full time
occupation, so a Buddhist must renounce worldly goods and become a monk. Mahayana Buddhism
split from Theravada about 2000 years ago and claims that it is less demanding and all encompassing.
Vajrayana Buddhism emphasizes the practice of rituals, known as Tantras. Christianity is founded on
the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Unemployment Rate Macroeconomics
The unemployment rate measures the percentage of people who do not have a job. Right now the
unemployment rate is 5.7% that is a .04 increase from June unemployment rate of 5.3%. The 5.3 %
unemployment was due to the economy adding 223,000 jobs that were considered the lowest in seven
years. As long as hiring continues at these levels, the inflation rate remains low, and real GDP steady
the course a boost in consumer spending and increases in profit margins should continue for
businesses through 2015. Given this macroeconomic progress, I will continue to move forward with
using an average percentage of unemployment rates in my forecast that will keep it negative with a
minor increase over the next couple of years. As usual, an analysis of the

Foltz Gray D. The Native American effect It is clear that throughout many years there has been an
exemption of treatment when talking about the Native Americans in the United States. Supposedly
every individual is endowed with the right of freedom, equality, and of seeking for happiness, but
Native Americans were treated irrationally. From the discovery of America, to the founding fathers
and settlers, the treatment and attitude towards Native Americans has been unsettling at best. The
colonial policies toward the Native Americans affected the Indians in ways that changed their
relationship between their tribes and the new nation. Cabeza de Vaca, Roger Williams, Cotton Mather,
and Benjamin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Roger Williams was an American Protestant theologian, and the first American proponent of religious
freedom and the separation of church and state. He was a student of Native American languages and
an advocate for fair dealings with Native Americans. Having learned their language and customs,
Williams gave up the idea of being a missionary and never baptized a single Indian. Having
established a rapport with and understanding off the Native Americans, Williams became a keen and
sympathetic observer of the native people. He called on Puritans to deal fairly with the Native
Americans. Williams nevertheless saw that the American Indians were no better or worse that the
rogues who dealt with them, and that in fact they possessed a marked degree of civility (Williams The
Norton Anthology American Literature p.174). During the late years of the 17th century, the Native
Americans and Puritan settlers had struggled to get along. Due to their clashing views on political and
cultural issues, neither faction regarded the other as a respectable group. Cotton Mather displays a
totally antagonistic view towards the Native Americans. Mather proves a negative relationship
between the natives and the settlers by displaying the barbarous behavior or violent actions of those
whom they consider to be culpable of wickedness. I believe when Benjamin Franklin was writing

Exotic Pet Ownership
Humans should be allowed to do anything that they re capable of doing. Therefore, if humans can
tame/control an exotic animal to satisfy our own needs humans should be able to. It s believed that the
ownership of exotic pets should either be banned, or it should have increased license requirements to
own an exotic pet. The main things that should be considered are: what it restricts, why not to place
restrictions, why restrictions are considered. Getting a license is a precaution placed in order to ensure
that the owner is acceptable to take care of an exotic animal. Someone looking to own an exotic pet
should require a license no matter the state. States should also not ban the ownership of these exotic
pets for that s restrictive on human aspirations. Restricting human choice shouldn t be acceptable
unless a human s choice(s) reduces another s capabilities. Humans are at a point where nothing is
above our species, therefore, if the capabilities of these exotic animals aren t enough to keep them
from us, then humans do whatever they like. Currently, the issue isn t what it seems. The licences to
own exotic pets vary widely in terms of requirements placed on the owner and the amount of ... Show

Beauty And The Beast Comparison Essay
A Timeless Tale The story of the Beauty and the Beast is well known amongst all ages. Though the
story they portray in the Disney version is much different than what they have portrayed it in France.
La Belle et la Bête has been produced twice, once in 1946 and again in 2014. These two movies tell
the same story but in very different ways. The perception of this story has changed between the
different time periods. The 1946 version has two sisters and one brother. The father is a merchant and
they have money. There is no mention of a motherly figure. The father is very keen to his Belle
staying with him, and he does not want her to leave. The 2014 version has two sisters and three
brothers. The father is a merchant and they had a lot of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This however was not the cause for the loss of their house; instead it was the brothers doing. He had
been gambling and lost money without being able to pay back and signed a contract that allowed them
to sue and take their possessions if they felt like it. On the father s way back from the port he got lost
and wandered upon the Beast s castle. In the 2014 version, the father s ships had been lost at sea, but
the Mermaid had returned with its goods. By the time the father came to retrieve though, it had been
picked through as he had already signed away the ships. Their possessions and house were taken
because they now did not have any money. On the father s way back from the port his horse stumbled
and slid, hurting its leg. The father then treads on, falls off a cliff, and then finds the Beast s castle.
When the father enters the castle in the 1946 version, there are live like arms that are holding
candelabras and extending them when passed by. The candles light and extinguish themselves and
there are hands that pour drinks and prepare food. The statues eyes follow you and smoke comes out

Introduction:
Abraham Sapien is a humanoid creature from the Hellboy Universe. Abraham goes by Abe, and has a
fascinating display of amphibious and fish like structures in tandem with a human like body plan. Abe
was discovered alone and comatose in 1978 with a note reading, Ichthyo Sapiens. April 14, 1865
indicating advanced age. Abraham Sapien was nicknamed Abe after Abraham Lincoln, as the date on
the note was the day Lincoln died. When Abe was discovered he was comatose and only awoke after
researchers experimented with shocking him. Abe adapted to human culture quickly and joined the

Further support for the larval theory is that tiger salamander larvae are extremely hardy. Abe has
amazing resilience to the environment and injury. Abe is shown to have suffered deep lacerations to
the chest and possible infection from exposure to sewer water. Abe was placed in a recovery chamber,
with no medicine or treatment administered, only his vitals were monitored. After several days in a
deep sleep he was fully recovered with no visible scaring. This time frame is identical to a salamander
recovering from a limb amputation. Within 6 12 hours, a plasma clot forms and epidermal cells from
the amputation site migrate to the wound surface. During the next 4 days, proteases degrade the
extracellular matrices of the tissues beneath the wound epidermis. The degradation process produces
single cells that undergo dramatic dedifferentiation: reverting back to undifferentiated cells. To
prevent differentiation of the newly formed crop of undifferentiated cells, genes expressed in
differentiated tissue are downregulated, such as mrf4 and myf5 in muscle cells. Proliferative genes
such as mslx are upregulated to help re create the progress zone mesenchyme of the embryonic limb.
Once enough cells have proliferated, they dedifferentiate to form the structure of the limb (or

Antigone And Creon Essay
The play Antigone has many complex and some not so complex characters and that is what makes it
very easy to create juxtapositions within and throughout the play. Creon was a very basic character in
the beginning of the play and proved to be a simple character that believed in one thing that created
conflicts. Others added on and together that is where dialogue in the play fills in empty spaces in the
play. Conflicts are what makes this play more interesting to the reader. The biggest contrasting
character is Creon because of the conflict that he has with Antigone. The line in the second part of the
play is the part that sets all the other parts up with depth or good future dialogues Creon says He ll be
left unburied, his body there for the birds and dogs to eat, a clear reminder of his shameful fate. (line

Haemon, his son even ends up coming into the story because of his arguments with Ismene. The son is
one of the less spoken about characters since he does not play a big role but is rather thrown into the
story without much context. The first two lines in the fourth part of the play Ismene says You re going
to kill your own sons bride? And as Creon replies in return Why not? There are other fields for him to
plough. (Line 650 651). Ismene is brought up a lot through the play and we do get a lot of FaceTime
with her but she does not contrast with anyone until Antigone is on trial almost and that is when it
does not add anything to the argument. Emotion can be a deciding factor in a lot of choices and in
Creon s case his emotions are all jumbled up when he finds out he ruined his own

Louis Gates Black America And The Class Divide
Understanding that the poverty of black Americans did not just stay within the home is a big step in
understanding urban poverty. Urban poverty reached outside the home, into the parks, schools and
playgrounds. With poverties reach being that extensive, there was something other than adversity
causing this. Louis Gates wrote an article about this called Black America and The Class Divide. (Jr.)
The main argument that Louis Gates was making in his article was the divide within the social and
economic classes here in America. He was explaining the gap between the classes. He is using
examples from both the past and the present to validate his argument. He was putting most of the
blame on blacks themselves. One example of how he validated this

Ark Of The Covenant Theme
The type of theme this film followed was focus on plot. The movie was constantly using action scenes
to keep the audience interested. For example Indiana Jones often did impossible things to complete his
mission. Such as in the beginning of the film he was able to escape a booby trapped temple and not get
killed by native tribesman. He is also able to survive a pit of snakes and not get killed by the ark.
Those actions would have killed anyone else but Jones. He also went to distant regions of the world.
He went to the jungles of South America, mountainous Nepal and ended up in the deserts of Egypt.
The film did occasionally mention Jones s past but that wasn t very often. It was mainly focused on
finding and getting the Ark of the Covenant.

Assessing the educational and cognitive needs of individuals with mental retardation is a very
complex process. An appropriately chosen assessment can be a highly effective tool that can be used
to measure the progress of our students. The teacher must select assessment procedures carefully and
make judgments regarding the main areas to assess and then determine which areas of performance
need to be tested further. Effective use of the results will allow teachers to design instruction and
lessons specifically to fit the needs of their students. Where does the teacher start? A starting point is

The test also helps in early the identification of reading and learning disability issues, the

with the result of this test. But considering the students emotional and educational needs, the test is
one of the better tools for student placement into a special program that will meet the student s needs.
It will also prevent students from being improperly labeled and diagnosed (Assessing children with

The Candy Diet Analysis
Simple thinking in a complex world is bound to bring disaster. The author, Seth Godin, wrote The
Candy Diet, a short blog published in 2017. He argues that we have been making society a place
where we think that it is okay to simplify non complex things. The blog utilizes some of the very same
tactics of today s writers to make his argument. Godin begins building his credibility by informing
men and women with supporting examples, then moves on to a reliable quote that has been
misinterpreted. However, at the end of the argument, his statement about being led back to curiosity
fails to inform the readers with enough information to reshape our failing society.
Godin first begins his blog by stating examples of how the media has been declining. He states that it
is important to realize that our best selling novels have been replaced by coloring books. Cable
channels like TLC and the History Channel show populist, non educational shows. Not only that, but
even newspapers inform their audience with information they do not care to hear. This has resulted in
the increase of general population not even purchasing newspapers. Seth Godin goes on to inform the
reader that the decline of thoughtful media has been discussed for a century stating that the decrease is
not anything new. The new information is, A fundamental shift not just in the profit seeking
gatekeepers, but in the culture as a whole. This shows the readers that Godin has done his research. It
also shows that he is passionate about the lack of depth and complexity in our modern
communications. The readers start to build trust in what he wrote because of his strong illustrations
about the topic.
To further build his thesis, Godin adds another strong example. He states that the media has an
algorithm. He uses an effective metaphor, we re on the edge of a breakneck race to the bottom, with
no brakes and no break in sight. This explains that we are quickly declining to the bottom. Although
the metaphor is fitting, the sentences building up to it are useless and weak. He could have either
taken them out or made them stronger by making the paragraphs longer. This might make the reader
question if Godin really knows what he is writing about.

A quartic equation is a fourth order polynomial equation of the form. Shortly after the discovery of a

Local extrema is basically all local maximums and minimums on a functions graph. Local extrema
occurs at criticla points on the graph where the derivative is zero or undefined. To find the exact
number of a local extrema using your polynomial , first find the first derivative of f using the power

which is also your local extrema. To find the local extrema in your calculator all you have to do is

just go to calculate and choose maximum. Then move your cursor to the left when they ask you for

1. In our world there are lots of conflicts and unnecessary hatred. In this day and age it has been so
much easier for people to start conflicts and fights, now you can easily go on the computer and
anonymously hate on someone for no reason. You can get so caught up in your own things that it s
easy to forget the little things that make this world such a good and peaceful place. So something that
I would like to change if I could would be all the fighting that people have whether it s between
siblings or parents or just the random fights people have. I think more peace in the world would be a
really good thing because it would make for so much more happiness between everyone. This is a

My favorite tradition that I drew was the beach, for me that is my favorite tradition because our friend
owns a part of the beach and everyone in my family from Aunts and Uncles and grandparents to
cousins rent the cabin there. Everyone in my family gets together at the beach and we all hang out for
a couple days on the last week of August. Along with that on the Sunday of the last week my great
Aunt brings big bins of little chocolate bars and candy for all of the kids to eat. I don t only like this
tradition because of the tasty treats, I enjoy this tradition because I have such a big family that I don t
see everyone all the time so when we get together sometimes it s been a year since I last saw them.
Overall it s just nice to be close with my family and get to spend time with them at the beach. That is

Paul Cezanne On The Banks Of A River Analysis
The mesmerizing painting created by the 20th Century French artist Paul Cezanne portrays how even
incomplete works are capable of depicting its own form of art and overall experience. His painting On
the Banks of a River is constructed using oil on canvas and is an unfinished lifelike rendering of a
natural scenery; well preserved today at the RISD Museum. Cezanne s process of painting and his
techniques are clearly discernible in this early stage of art. Likely using a wide brush, his paint strokes
are both purposeful and confident where his objective is to present only the most vital parts of the
piece and each object s location, creating an artwork made up of blocky, thick, and layered strokes
similar to that of impasto paintings (a technique that layers large amounts of paint in order to form a
larger picture). From close up it is challenging to distinguish the subject of the painting besides
multicolored blotches of paint, but at a distance one can grasp the different shapes and colors merge to
form a complete landscape. There are also three layers to this work, each diverse and together offers a
sense of depth in the form of overlapping grounds and value contrasts. The foreground is the warmest,
composed mainly of a sandy yellow color dotted with gray streaks possibly representative of stones or
pavement, with some blue highlights to contrast the dirty yellow. The middle ground is the most
detailed and consists of many dark colors and bright red and yellow geometric

Metaatropic Dwarfism Essay
Metatropic dwarfism
Metatropic dysplasia, also known as metatropic dwarfism is a very rare disease in humans that is often
deadly and identifiable after birth or into the infant stages of a baby. It has been discussed that MTD is
in part caused by mutations in the TRVP4 gene. This is located at 12q24.1 which is the long (q) arm of
chromosome 12 at position 24.1, base pairs 109,784,087 to 109,833,407. There have been
approximately 81 cases reported so far with odds of 1/1,000,000. A few cases have been severe to the
point of endangering the mother s life. This type of dwarfism affects the human skeleton in such a way
that affects normal growth. Body proportions are abnormal, and a child will have unusual features
such as shorter limbs, a narrow chest, and bones that have not developed correctly. Several facial
deformities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Metatropic dysplasia is inherited and can be passed down, meaning that is its autosomal dominant. It
is also possible that there will be reoccurrences between siblings, though it is variable over time.
Testing of the TRPV4 gene is available through CTGT and other corporations that specialize in
genetic sequencing. Prenatal ultrasound scans will show narrow spinal canals and shortening of long
bones and the supporting structure. Treatment of metatropic dysplasia after birth is possible but its
effectiveness varies from each case and it is often an aggressive and labor intensive path to follow.
Doctors main goals for patients with MTD are to establish satisfactory respiratory and pulmonary
functions as well as reducing the amount of skeletal deformity. This may require several surgeries that
have their own risks and outpatient treatment plan. If doctors can keep patients with MTD alive for
longer periods of time, they will be able to determine which methods of treatment are the most
effective. Since this is a genetic mutation, each case will require their oun unique set of tests, since
there may be more than one contributing

Violent video games directly correlate to violence in schools
Do violence video games actually affect children? What is the correlation between virtual games and
violence at school? Most of the nowadays teenage activities and spending free time resolves around
technology. Not all the games are violent, but they all becoming more realistic. Some of the games are
designed to learn something, some games develop abilities of fast reading, fast typing, driving a car,
building from small farms to big civilizations, some promote to fight with enemies, rob banks or even
kill people. I have also played several video games, from collecting cure flowers to driving crazy and
killing people. Main consumers of video ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Psychologists of Iowa State University have conducted a study, where the study shows that brief
exposure to violent video games can cause a reduction in normal physiological reactivity to images of
real violence. One of the researches Dr. C. Anderson has said that children play very playful, fun,
cartoonish forms of violence and what is important to know is that, most of the violent games do not
show what consequences can it lead to when kids while playing kill an animal, beat and kill people,
use and abuse of alcohol or drugs, disrespect the law. Gentile Anderson (2003) state that playing video
games may increase aggressive behavior because violent acts are continually repeated throughout the
video game. This process of repeating in huge amounts is considered as an effective teaching method.

Stone Breakers And The Stone Breakers
The mid 1800 s in France was truly a period for challenging arising issues in the midst a great change.
Gustave Courbet s The Stone Breakers and Jean Francois Millet s The Gleaners, are two paintings that
use the style of realism to convey a unique perspective of the reality around them. (subjects, brush
stroke, background)
The Stone Breakers is a painting that was created in the year 1849, by French artist Gustave Courbet.
This painting has the dimensions of 165 x 257 cm, and was done with the medium oil on canvas.
Upon first glance, a viewer can see this work as two males doing that remove and break stone from a
road that is being built. However, the painting s connotative meaning shows a man that appears to be
too old and a boy that appears to be too young for such harsh labour. Courbet had made this decision
with the intention of sharing his perspective on the reality of the abuse and deprivation that had
occurred in French rural life during that time period. Courbet s intentions are significant because they
display a truthful perspective while using ordinary people. Courbet refrained from using subjects of
people who are wealthy, and live a more glamourous lifestyle, which was a norm for many french
artists to incorporate in their work. The Stone Breakers is a painting that challenges the ideologies in
society, and provide viewers with a new way of thinking towards the norms of labour in the society
during the time period.
The Gleaners is a painting that was

Native Son Adaptation
In Richard Wright s novel, Native Son, the overall issue was with the main character, Bigger Thomas,
being accused of raping Mary. The film tells the story of the main character Bigger Thomas, a 20 year
old African American man who is growing up in poverty on the Southside of Chicago. Native Son
displays a series of events and decisions made by Bigger that will alter his life. The purpose of this
essay to examine Richard Wright s film adaptation of Native Son, and to argue that Bigger Thomas
proves to be guilty of murder due to being present with the victim, him covering up the crime, and his
history of violence. Wright s 1940 novel, Native Son had stirred up real controversy by shocking the
sensibilities of both black and white America. Wright was inspired to make his readers feel the reality
of race relations and that is how Native Son came about. Wright used his observances throughout the
previous decade to sculpt the inherent challenges faced by the main character, Bigger Thomas, a 20
year old African American in the South side of Chicago. In a time, when the Great Depression was
impacting the economy, the Dust Bowl was crossing the country, and an anti lynching bill failed to
pass in Congress, the context of history became an important facet of Wright s creation of the film
adaptation. Firstly, Bigger Thomas proves to be guilty because he was with Mary on the day she was
last seen by anyone. Mary, Mr. Dalton s daughter, frightens and angers Bigger by ignoring the social

To Believe and To Change in Ayn Rand’s Anthem
To Believe and To Change Individuality arises when an individual encounters and endures a life,
taking their first step with their family which is the first society an individual faces. Through their
lives, individuals promote their own exclusive originalities, while Ayn Rand s novella Anthem
characterizes a totalitarian society suppressing individualism. In the society depicted in Anthem,
individualism is oppressed by the society imposing children live away from their families which is one
form of totalitarian dictator s authority. The intention of totalitarian dictators enforcing the
arrangement of children living apart from their families is to impede individualistic society avert
dissimilarities transpiring in the process of family influences in education, forfend the enlightenment
of emotions, and the establishment of collectivism. We strive to be like all our brother men, for all
men must be alike (Rand 21). Although being divergent is a sin, transgression in Anthem society,
Prometheus, the protagonist, defies against collectivism by standing out and becoming an outcast of
himself in his society with self assurance and eagerness. No one in Anthem society has individual
identity by inspecting the inexistence of the word I, while Prometheus detects the Unspeakable Word,
ego, exposing the readers to envisage the propitious prospect of the establishment of individualism.
Women never see their children and children never know their parents (Rand 41). Prometheus

The Security Forces And Terrorism
Iraq s Security Forces have been under scrutiny since ISIS began controlling Iraqi cities. The Iraqi
Security Forces had 1,000,000 million personnel and had received $100 billion dollars in aid since
2006 (Al Ali, 2014). However, ISIS is smaller in force and funds. ISIS has an estimated 20,000 troops
and makes an estimated $1 4 million everyday (Gollom, 2014). The Iraqi Security Forces should have
the ability and force to crush this terrorist cell, but astonishingly are being overrun by this terrorist
cell. The Iraqi Security Forces face interior issues that cripple its ability to deal with military threats,
and make the state vulnerable to internal and external attacks. Some of the most prominent issues
affecting the power of Iraqi Security Forces is the early exiting of United States soldiers, Prime
Minister Maliki s policies, deep sectarian, and massive corruption throughout the military.
In 2003 the United States led coalition overthrew the Ba ath regime led by Saddam Hussein. The
United States believed that Saddam was involved in the terrorist attacks on 9/11 (Langley,2013).
When the United States overthrew the regime the Coalition Provisional Authority took control of most
aspects of government. The Coalition Provisional Authority order 2 disbanded Saddam s military,
intelligence, and security infastructure (Langley,2013). The United States helped develop a new
Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Interior. These ministries are responsible for overseeing branches

American Loyalist Failure
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to identify the factors that contributed to the failure in the
British Southern Campaign in the American Revolutionary war. This paper will examine British and
American Southern Loyalist defeat in the Battle of Kings Mountain, and discuss assumptions the
British made, including loyalists support, logistics, long rifle, and terrain advantage. It is important to
study past military actions to identify mistakes and apply lessons learned to current U.S. military
operations. Background The Battle of Kings Mountain took place on October 7, 1780 between the
borders of Blackburn, South Carolina and Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Major Patrick Ferguson, a
British commander, led a unit of American Loyalist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Campbell and Shelby had successfully surprised Ferguson s men. The Patriots advanced in a
methodical manner and picked off Ferguson s men on the exposed heights. Ferguson s men returned
fire, the Patriots fortunate Loyalists shooting downhill with their Brown Bess muskets tended to shoot
high. (Jones, 2009) Ferguson countered and ordered a bayonet attack down the mountain. The Patriots
then retreated to the base of the mountain, waited until the Loyalists disbursed, and returned to the top.
The Patriots regrouped and resumed their attack, picking off more and more loyalist. Both sides
repeated this maneuver three times during the battle. Some of Ferguson s Loyalists ran out of
ammunitions. Ferguson realized the impending loss, attempted a breakout with his men, and
advanced. In the attempt to escape with his men, Ferguson died on the mountain. (Hickman, 2015)
The Loyalist consequently surrendered. The battle lasted an hour. Out of 1,200 men, 300 killed, at
least 120 wounded, and at least 680 taken as prisoners. The Patriots out of the 900 men had
approximately 65 wounded and 28 killed. (U.S. Army War College,

Dante s Moral Beliefs Of Christianity And Islam
Dante s christian version of hell reflects his upbringing; it also reflects his life as a man caught
between shackles of the Middle Ages and the liberation of the Renaissance. In Islam sins are similar,
in both Christianity and Islam believe in similar concepts such as Jesus, but Jesus story has different
details between both religions and Christianity s sins and Islam has a vastly different moral compass.
.
Christianity and Islam have vastly different morals, but one is blasphemy against God. In Islam, the
Five Pillars of Islam set the framework of the model Muslim life. The first pillar in Islam is Shahada,
the Muslim profession of faith, which expresses the two simple and fundamental beliefs that make one
a Muslim: La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah.
This means that there is no god but God and Muhammad is the messenger of God. The worst sin in
Islam is to associate God with partners or a son because it portrays God as human like or not one of a
kind because in Islam there is only one God and nothing is like him. In the Bible, it s written in
Matthew 12:31 32: And I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy
against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be
forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in
the age to come. In Christianity, blasphemy against Jesus is not considered a one time offense; rather,
it is a stubborn way of

Resistance to Change and Resolutions Essay
Organizations are made to change by both internal and external forces. Resistance is inevitable but can
be resolved by planning. I will discuss the possible resistances that may occur from the changes in our
sales process. This will be a planned process. I will take you through the necessary steps to effectively
manage the resistance to the change in the organizations structure and culture. I will then cover in
detail the resistance that will most likely happen in our company to this change in our sales process.
Resistance to Change and Resolutions An organization changes include planned or unplanned, and
revolutionary or evolutionary. There will be resistance to all of these. Change in any organization is a
three step process. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The changes in our sales process will cause some conflict between departments or divisions. They will
struggle to regain their perceived power levels, causing conflict and then we will have reduced
performance. We are fortunate to have an organic structure in our company as this will have less
resistance because our people are allowed to think and make decisions on their own. This gives them
security from the habit of deciding how to implement a process. Were we mechanistic we would see
more resistance in the forms of having to make major changes in behavioral attitudes of the
workforce. Resolutions I believe we will see resistance to change mostly by individuals. There are
several ways to effectively overcome the opposition. The first step is to plan the changes in the
process. We will be creating a revolutionary change or major shift in the sales process. Planning is key
to overcoming resistance. A SWOT analysis is needed, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and
threats to the change. We define the goals, the scope of the project, analyze the internal and external
environments and determine the changes in technologies. Also what will increase our chance for
failure? Once this is done, we educate our workforce. We have several means of communication. We
can have short daily meetings, send out emails, and use our company newsletter or my favorite, a link
on the company s Internet site with daily updates on the change process. We must include how these

  • 2. Industrial Revolution DBQ Essay During the nineteenth century, the Industrial Revolution made a significant political, economical, and social change throughout Western Europe. The Industrial Revolution was brought on, partly, due to the English civil war. During the Industrial Revolution, England experienced major advances in transportation, agriculture, and manufacturing, which spread throughout Europe. By the 1830s most European countries started railroad construction and the mechanization of manufacturing (Hunt, 654). One of the most significant changes that occurred during this time period was the shift of labor from small farms in rural areas to large factories in urbanized cities. The technology developed during this period, including the seed drill, threshing machinery, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Land owners moved to cities to work in factories, becoming part of the working class. The working class became the majority. Politicians depended on the ordinary men of the working class for their votes. This time period is also referred to as an age of ideology associated with the ideas of liberalism, conservatism, socialism, and free market economics. The Boss System was in effect by the Second Industrial Revolution. Politicians, running for office, used immigrants to bolster their own position by offering them incentives or promising them jobs in factories. In return immigrants voted for these politicians. This enabled the political party in power to maintain power. Politicians were very corrupt and were often lining their own pockets . The Second Industrial Revolution eventually led to the 18th amendment, passing prohibition, and the 19th amendment, legalizing women s voting rights. During this period the idea of communism was developed by Karl Marx. This was the positive supersession of private property as human self estrangement (Karl Marx: Scientific Socialism). Social Democracy signified the entrance of socialists into traditional politics. Socialists formed political parties and ran for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How 5-HT modulates NMDA receptor activation is a key... How 5 HT modulates NMDA receptor activation is a key question of interest. Despite being cation channels, NMDA receptors have non linear, voltage dependent conductance (Mayer and Westbrook, 1987). This property results from the voltage dependent Mg2+ blockade of the receptor channels (Mayer et al., 1984; Nowak et al., 1984) and thus leads to the negative slope conductance in the current voltage relationship (i.e. I V curve; Nowak et al., 1984; Flatman et al., 1983; MacDonald et al., 1982). Because of the voltage dependent conductance, NMDA receptor activation generates intrinsic voltage oscillations in spinal neurons of rat (Hochman et al., 1994a; Hochman et al., 1994b) and amphibian (Sillar and Simmers, 1994a; Sillar and Simmers, 1994b) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the cord preparations with TTX treatment, 5 HT application reintroduced the negative slope conductance in the I V curve of healthy motoneurons failing to show the negative slope conductance in the presence of NMDA alone (Schmidt and Jordan, 2000). Moreover, in other motoneurons showing the negative slope conductance in the presence of NMDA alone, 5 HT caused the negative slope conductance to shift toward the hyperpolarizing direction, which could be reversed by 5 HT antagonist mianserin (Schmidt and Jordan, 2000). Reducing the bath concentration of Mg2+ also mimicked the hyperpolarizing shift of the negative slope conductance by 5 HT (Schmidt and Jordan, 2000). Via 5 HT2 receptor activation, protein kinase C (PKC) can enhance the hyperpolarizing shift of the negative slope conductance in the I V curve of NMDA receptors and also reduce Mg2+ blockade of the receptor channels (Blank et al., 1996; Chen and Huang, 1992). Therefore, the effect of 5 HT on the negative slope conductance of NMDA receptors may result from reduction of Mg2+ blockade of the receptor channels. Even more interestingly, Li and Zhuo (1998) discovered that 5 HT can induce the transformation of silent glutamatergic synapses into functional ones in some rat superficial dorsal horn neurons (Li and Zhuo, 1998). They detected silent synapses, which are excitatory postsynaptic currents mediated by NMDA receptors, by depolarizing the cells from 70 mV to +40 mV (Li and Zhuo, 1998). However, 5 HT ... • 4. Critique Of Andy Pye s The Internet Of Things Critique of Andy Pye s The Internet of Things: Connecting the Unconnected What the Internet of Things is and how it works The internet of things (IoT) is comparable to the internet in how it provides communication connections over a large area public network. The internet is used to connect people to each other using device connections to a main stream network. The IoT is currently a conceptual construct of a network system working as a conduit to serve as a direct line of communication for multiple electrical operated objects. In theory if an object has an on/off toggle switch, then the object will eventually be able to be connected to the system. The purpose of the IoT is to provide a medium to connect electrical devices allowing them to work in unison in effort to improve the efficiency of their operations. Advanced algorithms drive these devices to complete complex decision making tasks in real time scenarios to improve the efficiency of their operations (Pye, 2014). Conceptually the IoT is in the infancy stage, but the foundation for its realization has begun with the development of the Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This upgrade from the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) corrects the issue of limited Internet Protocol (IP) Addresses. By expanding the number of IP addresses available it ensures new objects will be able to connect and communicate over the vast network (Pye, 2014). Advancements in the development of smart household automated networks and use of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Understanding The Distributions Of Religions To understand the distributions of religions, beliefs must be separated first. Universalizing religions are religions trying to appeal to all people globally, not just to one culture or location. Ethnic religions appeal primarily to one group of people living in one place. Atheism is the belief that there is no God and Agnosticism is the belief that the fact that there is a God or no God cannot be proven. Christianity is a universalizing religion. It is the dominant religion in North America, South America, Europe, and Australia. Countries with a Christian majority exist in Africa and Asia as well. In Europe, Muslims account for only 5% of the population, and most of them emigrated from African colonies where they adopted the religion to Europe. In North America, the number of followers varies from 1 to 5 million. Most of these followers emigrated from Asian, African, and Arab countries. Buddhism is clustered in East and Southeast Asia. Similar to other religions, there are three branches Mahayana, Theravada, and Vajrayana. Mahayana Buddhists live primarily in China, Japan, and Korea and make up 56% of Buddhists. Theravada Buddhists live primarily in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Thailand and make up 38% of Buddhists. Vajrayana Buddhists live primarily in Tibet and Mongolia and make up 6% of Buddhists. An example of an Ethnic religion is Hinduism, which has 900 million adherents. Most of them live in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Other ethnic religions include Confucianism, Taoism, Primal indigenous, African traditional, Spiritism, and Judaism. Different religions have different origins. Theravada Buddhism believes that Buddhism is a full time occupation, so a Buddhist must renounce worldly goods and become a monk. Mahayana Buddhism split from Theravada about 2000 years ago and claims that it is less demanding and all encompassing. Vajrayana Buddhism emphasizes the practice of rituals, known as Tantras. • 6. Unemployment Rate Macroeconomics The unemployment rate measures the percentage of people who do not have a job. Right now the unemployment rate is 5.7% that is a .04 increase from June unemployment rate of 5.3%. The 5.3 % unemployment was due to the economy adding 223,000 jobs that were considered the lowest in seven years. As long as hiring continues at these levels, the inflation rate remains low, and real GDP steady the course a boost in consumer spending and increases in profit margins should continue for businesses through 2015. • 7. Thomas Paine s Beliefs Essay Toby Glover Engl.2110W02 Midterm S11 Foltz Gray D. The Native American effect It is clear that throughout many years there has been an exemption of treatment when talking about the Native Americans in the United States. Supposedly every individual is endowed with the right of freedom, equality, and of seeking for happiness, but Native Americans were treated irrationally. From the discovery of America, to the founding fathers and settlers, the treatment and attitude towards Native Americans has been unsettling at best. The colonial policies toward the Native Americans affected the Indians in ways that changed their relationship between their tribes and the new nation. Cabeza de Vaca, Roger Williams, Cotton Mather, and Benjamin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Roger Williams was an American Protestant theologian, and the first American proponent of religious freedom and the separation of church and state. He was a student of Native American languages and an advocate for fair dealings with Native Americans. Having learned their language and customs, Williams gave up the idea of being a missionary and never baptized a single Indian. Having established a rapport with and understanding off the Native Americans, Williams became a keen and sympathetic observer of the native people. He called on Puritans to deal fairly with the Native Americans. Williams nevertheless saw that the American Indians were no better or worse that the rogues who dealt with them, and that in fact they possessed a marked degree of civility (Williams The Norton Anthology American Literature p.174). During the late years of the 17th century, the Native Americans and Puritan settlers had struggled to get along. Due to their clashing views on political and cultural issues, neither faction regarded the other as a respectable group. Cotton Mather displays a totally antagonistic view towards the Native Americans. Mather proves a negative relationship between the natives and the settlers by displaying the barbarous behavior or violent actions of those whom they consider to be culpable of wickedness. • 8. Exotic Pet Ownership Humans should be allowed to do anything that they re capable of doing. Therefore, if humans can tame/control an exotic animal to satisfy our own needs humans should be able to. It s believed that the ownership of exotic pets should either be banned, or it should have increased license requirements to own an exotic pet. The main things that should be considered are: what it restricts, why not to place restrictions, why restrictions are considered. Getting a license is a precaution placed in order to ensure that the owner is acceptable to take care of an exotic animal. Someone looking to own an exotic pet should require a license no matter the state. States should also not ban the ownership of these exotic pets for that s restrictive on human aspirations. Restricting human choice shouldn t be acceptable unless a human s choice(s) reduces another s capabilities. Humans are at a point where nothing is above our species, therefore, if the capabilities of these exotic animals aren t enough to keep them from us, then humans do whatever they like. Though the story they portray in the Disney version is much different than what they have portrayed it in France. La Belle et la Bête has been produced twice, once in 1946 and again in 2014. These two movies tell the same story but in very different ways. The perception of this story has changed between the different time periods. The 1946 version has two sisters and one brother. The father is a merchant and they have money. There is no mention of a motherly figure. The father is very keen to his Belle staying with him, and he does not want her to leave. This time frame is identical to a salamander recovering from a limb amputation. Within 6 12 hours, a plasma clot forms and epidermal cells from the amputation site migrate to the wound surface. During the next 4 days, proteases degrade the extracellular matrices of the tissues beneath the wound epidermis. The degradation process produces single cells that undergo dramatic dedifferentiation: reverting back to undifferentiated cells. To prevent differentiation of the newly formed crop of undifferentiated cells, genes expressed in differentiated tissue are downregulated, such as mrf4 and myf5 in muscle cells. Proliferative genes such as mslx are upregulated to help re create the progress zone mesenchyme of the embryonic limb. Once enough cells have proliferated, they dedifferentiate to form the structure of the limb (or whichever area of the body they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Antigone And Creon Essay The play Antigone has many complex and some not so complex characters and that is what makes it very easy to create juxtapositions within and throughout the play. Creon was a very basic character in the beginning of the play and proved to be a simple character that believed in one thing that created conflicts. Others added on and together that is where dialogue in the play fills in empty spaces in the play. Conflicts are what makes this play more interesting to the reader. The biggest contrasting character is Creon because of the conflict that he has with Antigone. The line in the second part of the play is the part that sets all the other parts up with depth or good future dialogues Creon says He ll be left unburied, his body there for the birds and dogs to eat, a clear reminder of his shameful fate. Urban poverty reached outside the home, into the parks, schools and playgrounds. With poverties reach being that extensive, there was something other than adversity causing this. Louis Gates wrote an article about this called Black America and The Class Divide. (Jr.) The main argument that Louis Gates was making in his article was the divide within the social and economic classes here in America. He was explaining the gap between the classes. He is using examples from both the past and the present to validate his argument. He was putting most of the blame on blacks themselves. One example of how he validated this ... • 15. Assessing the Education and Cognitive Needs of Individuals... Assessing the educational and cognitive needs of individuals with mental retardation is a very complex process. An appropriately chosen assessment can be a highly effective tool that can be used to measure the progress of our students. • 17. The Candy Diet Analysis Simple thinking in a complex world is bound to bring disaster. The author, Seth Godin, wrote The Candy Diet, a short blog published in 2017. He argues that we have been making society a place where we think that it is okay to simplify non complex things. The blog utilizes some of the very same tactics of today s writers to make his argument. Godin begins building his credibility by informing men and women with supporting examples, then moves on to a reliable quote that has been misinterpreted. However, at the end of the argument, his statement about being led back to curiosity fails to inform the readers with enough information to reshape our failing society. Godin first begins his blog by stating examples of how the media has been declining. He states that it is important to realize that our best selling novels have been replaced by coloring books. Cable channels like TLC and the History Channel show populist, non educational shows. Not only that, but even newspapers inform their audience with information they do not care to hear. This has resulted in the increase of general population not even purchasing newspapers. Seth Godin goes on to inform the reader that the decline of thoughtful media has been discussed for a century stating that the decrease is not anything new. The new information is, A fundamental shift not just in the profit seeking gatekeepers, but in the culture as a whole. This shows the readers that Godin has done his research. It also shows that he is passionate about the lack of depth and complexity in our modern communications. The readers start to build trust in what he wrote because of his strong illustrations about the topic. To further build his thesis, Godin adds another strong example. He states that the media has an algorithm. He uses an effective metaphor, we re on the edge of a breakneck race to the bottom, with no brakes and no break in sight. This explains that we are quickly declining to the bottom. Although the metaphor is fitting, the sentences building up to it are useless and weak. He could have either taken them out or made them stronger by making the paragraphs longer. This might make the reader question if Godin really knows what he is writing about. ... Paul Cezanne On The Banks Of A River Analysis The mesmerizing painting created by the 20th Century French artist Paul Cezanne portrays how even incomplete works are capable of depicting its own form of art and overall experience. His painting On the Banks of a River is constructed using oil on canvas and is an unfinished lifelike rendering of a natural scenery; well preserved today at the RISD Museum. Cezanne s process of painting and his techniques are clearly discernible in this early stage of art. Likely using a wide brush, his paint strokes are both purposeful and confident where his objective is to present only the most vital parts of the piece and each object s location, creating an artwork made up of blocky, thick, and layered strokes similar to that of impasto paintings (a technique that layers large amounts of paint in order to form a larger picture). From close up it is challenging to distinguish the subject of the painting besides multicolored blotches of paint, but at a distance one can grasp the different shapes and colors merge to form a complete landscape. There are also three layers to this work, each diverse and together offers a sense of depth in the form of overlapping grounds and value contrasts.
