My Last Soccer Game
Passes were flying, brisk and beautifully, to their intended targets. The kicks, arched with perfection,
barely kissed the ground before their departure was rocketed off in direction of the stark white goal
posts. As I gazed around the field, I gathered this sense of calm from my team mates. The scoreboard
counted down towards start of the game as the breeze whispered to me a silent farewell. But the
breeze wasn t my concern at this point; we were about to play Richland center and I had a good
feeling that today was going to be one to remember.
Coach called everyone over to the gleaming metal benches located on the Richland center Track that
surrounds the football field. In this instance however, it also doubled as the soccer ... Show more

Richland center raced towards our goal at lightning pace down the left sideline. This is when instinct
kicked in, and I assumed center stage along with the streaking orange RC player.
The world in my eyes had changed. Nothing mattered more to me at this moment then shutting down
that player. I had done this over a hundred times. I was on them in a flash, but that split second was all
it took. I felt a pop. The ball was out of bounds and I was on the ground. But why was I on the
ground? This had never happened before. The Richland center player capitalized on my lapse in
concentration and restarted the play before I could think any longer on the matter. And that s when I
knew something was wrong. Everything sort of stopped; all noise became absolutely pin drop silent. I
couldn t even feel the sting of the cold breeze. The only thing that mattered was stopping them from
scoring. We had worked to hard for me to give up. I kicked the ball out of bounds once again. The
world was sort of coming back at this point. And all I could hear was people yelling at me to sit down.
Why would I want to sit down? They were going to score; I couldn t let them do that. The team
shouldn t be asking me to do anything of the sort. That s when I noticed I was limping. Why was I
limping? I only fell for a few seconds. But there was that question again, Why did I fall? I didn t have

Bay City Fire Department Case Study
The situation that is happening with the Bay City Fire Department is very disturbing because they are
supposed to be one of the few pillars in the community for people to trust to get their job done, and I
believe they have a very important role to fulfill but they are slacking majorly. A few speculations on
why they are violating standard operational procedures because that is how the older firefighters did it
in the past. Since many of the firefighters in charge are much older than the recruits they have ways of
doing tasks differently than the new regulations that were put in place over the years. Another
speculation that could be made is that there may not be much commotion in the community and
whoever gets to the fire the quickest or to the accident the fastest will get the recognition and the
excitement of completing a task. Thirdly, the mild form of hazing that the veterans put the recruits
through contributes to why they are not progressing and why many of them are dying in fires. They
are taught by the older ones that they have to look and follow specific duties in order to become a real
firefighter. The last reason they might be having so many accidents is that the older regulations that
the captains are following and the new regulations that recruits are following are clashing literally
with the truck crashes and figuratively with ideologies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new recruits come to their new job with the new regulations but, there is pressure to conform with
the new department and the veterans who believe that the original way is the only and best way to
tackle issues. In order to begin the correction process, the various issues that are concurrently
happening would need to study the sociology of the fire departments to deal with the older veterans
and the new recruits clash in ideologies and the anthropology of the town to understand how active the

What Are The Stereotypes Of Boys And Girls
Ever since birth your parents choice the gender, from pink or blue to the toys you play when you were
younger to even who was acceptable to hang out with. Boys and girls have always had different roles
growing up. Boys are suppose to be the tough and strong person who didn t ever need help with
anything and girls were always the weak ones who always needed someone to help or save them. Its
all how society told us how to grow up, women and men both share something in common and that s
how society says how we should look, women just have it a little harder. Starting at a young age girls
are already being pressured to be perfect , the models ,the magazine covers, all reveal a completely
impossible body image. Not because their parents may have had what some people call good genes...
No, it s the photo shop and all the editing and weight lose that sometimes they have to lose just to get
a certain role. They are not happy with it. They look nothing like they do in photos or movies or
magazines but that s not what society sees and that s why people feel the need to be perfect and no
flaws whatsoever, they feel if they don t look a certain way the guys wont take the time to look their
direction that no one would like them that s where the depression and self harm comes into play and
that s the sad part of it. Middle school is where we see it start more than often, people are just now

The Blind Side Character Analysis
John Lee Hancock s film The Blind Side describes the struggles of an African American becoming
part of a white society. Micheal Or, the main character, shows us the audience how black lower class
Americans are mistreated and racism from white individuals. Micheal growing up without a father and
with a single mother can also show how generous and sweet he truly is. The so called gentle giant
being a staggering six foot four inches and three hundred fifteen pounds was everything a college
football player should be but with outside help he could put this size to use. Trying to find each meal
and a home to stay in every night is when the Tuohy family takes him in and can see him for who he is
and not how he is perceived in the community. From there Hancock s movie shows us how the
different issues of a white society such as discrimination for race, and cultural differences can be a
false door so to say. Based on character development, a change in society, and plot twist that will leave
the viewer wondering what will happen next, The Blind Side is one of the best sports related movies
about the struggle of racism. Character development is what gets the movie viewer wrapped around a
person in the story. In this particular movie Michael is an easy character to feel sorry for as well as fall
in love with for being a large man with a soft heart. Being in a third person view while watching this
movie viewers can see from the outside looking in that he feels neglected and does not

Informative Speech On The Roman Colosseum
SOSE Script
Hello guys, today I am going to talk about one of the most impressive architectures in history. The
colosseum, and how it has influenced our modern architecture. This architecture has managed to
remain notable up until today. Even in the world full of tall buildings, it stands as the glorious
monument to represent the Roman Empire and its entertainment.
The Roman Colosseum, or the Flavian Amphitheatre was first commissioned by the emperor
Vespasian in the year of 72 AD. It was built for the entertainment of the Roman people. The
monument measures 190m by 155 metres and was the largest amphitheatre that ever existed in the
Roman Empire. In addition, while many other amphitheatres had been placed into hillsides for
support, the colosseum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has some kind of history to it as well. It all started with the suicide of Emperor Nero in 68AD and
the 18 months of civil war that it brought. During this short period of time, there was the rise and fall
of three Emperors. Though this ended with the succession of Vespasian, who was the start of the
Flavian Dynasty. Right after becoming emperor, the first task that Vespasian accomplished was
rebuilding the city of Rome, which had been damaged due to the civil war. However, coming in right
after this task, marking his identity in the city was probably the next most important for him; and the
colosseum did the trick. The Roman colosseum was to become the focus of the New Flavian dynasty.
Therefore, the location chosen for the colosseum was significant as well. This significant site, where
the colosseum was built on was the site of the infamous Golden house of Nero. This location was
perfect for the colosseum. You ask why? It was because it was in the heart of Rome, where it stood as
the symbol of might, wealth and power of the Roman Empire. Also, Vespasian s decision to build the
colosseum here can be seen as a returning of a part of the city back to the people, which Nero had
used for his personal use (RomanColossseum,

How can Art be Defined
The search for a definition of Art has been subject of a complex philosophical reflection incorporated;
however, within different thematics because the very idea of Art is changeable as it relies on the
culture and the tradition of a particular epoch.
Etymologically, the word Aesthetics derives from the Greek àisthesis, which means perception by the
senses. It used to refer as the study of the world of perceptions as the doctrine aimed to discover the
complexity of perceptive knowledge.
In ancient times, the concept of Art was closely related to the practice with the technique which Plato
argued were, certainly, not positive.
According to the philosopher, Art and Tragedy are copies of copies, the copies of the sensible world.
He argues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Faced with the difficulties encountered by the circularity of the Institutional theory, some theoreticians
have tried to develop some definitions based on the relational properties of art, changing the terms of
the essential relationships between its properties.
On this terms, a very interesting approach has been suggested by Levinson (1979), who is committed
to the development of a definition in which the Art is identified through the relationship with history.
Levinson (1979) argues that an object is a work of art if it has been created to be perceived and
evaluated in the same way that previous and recognized works of art have been received and
evaluated. In other words, what is art today resembles the continuing relationship which justifies the
attribution of the status of Artwork.
His theory, known as the Historical Intentional, is halfway between the Institutional and the other
traditional Aesthetics definitions.
Levinson s proposal differs significantly from that of Dickie (1974), and the difference lies in the
recovery of a real contact with our relationship with history and with the Artworks.
Even though I truly appreciate the effort of philosophers in trying to identify a generic definition, I
assume that there is not a unique definition of Art, this word is far too complex and matter of
subjectivity, and I believe that it is not necessary to incorporate the universal in the particular.
Art is generally the perception of beauty, but

The Effects Of Climate Change On Earth
In another matter, this is not the first time that climate change has affected the planet in the past there
were many problems to the earth millions of years ago. There were five major ice ages from the
longest and first scientists believe occurred was two point four to two point one billion years ago
during the early Proterozoic Eon there was an ice age formed and it was the Huronian. The second ice
age was the cryogenian and it has been known that it produced a snowball earth in which permanent
sea ice extended to or very near the earth s equator; this period occurred from eight hundred and fifty
to six hundred and thirty million years ago. The third ice age that occurred was the Andean Saharan it

Scientists believe the possible causes of the medieval warm period were increase in solar activity,
decrease volcanic activity, and change to ocean circulation. After the medieval ended what followed
was the little ice age; the little ice age is a period between the thirteen hundreds to the eighteen
seventies. During this time Europe and North America were subjected to a much colder winters than
during the 20th century. Scientists believe the cause of this period was cyclical lows in solar radiation,
heightened volcanic activity, changes in the ocean circulation, variations in earth s orbit, and axial tilt,
inherent variability in global climate and decrease in the human population these just the few reasons
why the little ice age was formed.
Climate change has caused many problems to humans and ironically the cause of it are humans them
selves. One of the major problems that climate changed has caused is food crisis; hotter temperatures
will severely diminish the world s ability to grow crops and feed humanity and other animals. The
effects of major heat waves recorded in the past were very excruciating like the one in Western Europe
during the summer of 2003 which hunted the crop yield deeply. Also in 2003 Italy was affected by a
big heat wave where a maze yield feel by 36%. These are major signs that humans won t have any
thing to feed themselves in several years if this damaging global warming continues.

Evaluation Of A Student s Strengths
Student s Strengths (include a description of the student s behavioral strengths, such as positive
interactions with staff, ignoring the inappropriate behavior of peers, accepts responsibility, etc.):
1. Noah is very social and wants to be accepted by his peers.
2. Noah is organized.
3. He is artistic, and this is shown in his handwriting.
4. Good reading skills, especially fluency.
5. Likes to participate in extra curricular activities such as sports.
Description of Behavior(include a description of the frequency, duration, and intensity of the
behavior(s)):
1. Ongoing pattern of uncooperative defiant, hostile and annoying behavior towards people in
authority.
These behaviors do not appear at the beginning of the school year, but each year appear to increase as
Noah becomes familiar with the school setting for the school year. The behaviors appear to continue to
increase in number and intensity with each discipline he receives. As teachers make more demands on
Noah, he appears to have more difficulties with his behavior. Once a teacher addresses the issue with
Noah, it appears that he is unable to readjust and reframe his behavior. Behaviors will escalate until he
is requested to leave the room. Once he enters the office because of his behavior, Noah refuses to
comply with instruction. Typically, he sits in the in school suspension (ISS) room and goofs off,
refusing to do his work.

The Australian Work Health And Safety Strategy
The Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2012 2022 identifies several priority industries.
Priority industries are identified as having a high number of injury and / or fatalities or hazardous in
nature (Safe Work Australia, 2012). The foundation of risk management is to prevent incidents from
occurring. Accident causation theory are models or tools that are used to assist in investigating
incidents in order to prevent recurrence (Boyle, 2012). The construction industry has been identified
as a priority industry for Australia (Safe Work Australia, 2012) and will be the focus of the review.
The development of an incident reporting template will be supported by causation models identified as
relevant to the construction industry. This template will be designed for a medium sized organisation
defined as having 21 99 workers. This study starts by performing a review and literature critic of
accident causation theories and models. This review highlights the two most relevant causation
theories to the construction industry as Reason s Swiss cheese model and System dynamics model for
the causation of unsafe behaviours (SD CUB). Both models are discussed in more detail with a
comparison of model strengths and weaknesses. From the comparison an incident reporting template
is developed. Finally it is argued that a systematic robust model should be applied that can manage the
variables in the changing work environment of the construction industry and concludes risk

Is Photography A Game Of Inventing Meanings
John Berger once said, One can play a game of inventing meanings. He was conveying the idea that
when one person interprets a photograph to have a particular meaning, the same picture might have a
varying level of significance to another person. In our culture today photographs take on many roles,
both traditional and new. They are used to tell a story and are a port into a particular moment.
Photography allows us to see past initial perceptions and make connections to our everyday lives. All
photography is subjective to different views and therefore contains a set of diverse meanings. In recent
years photography has taken on a more significant role compared to past generations; it can be used to
express these diverse views, and connect people from all different cultures and backgrounds. We take
pictures of many distinct and sometimes trivial moments that have a powerful meaning to us, and that
meaning can now be shared with the world. ¨ And in life, meaning is not instantaneous. Meaning is
discovered in what connects, and cannot exist without development¨(Berger). Photography is all about
connections. The picture is captured, and then shared with others, the meaning behind it may not be
apparent right away, but gradually it comes to light the longer the image is studied and developed.
Today we take photographs to connect us with specific people in specific places at specific times.
When we first view a photograph we have an initial reaction and the picture will have a

Conversion Disorder
Conversion disorder is a medical condition where its sufferers present neurological symptoms such as
paralysis, numbness, blindness or fits without a known neurological trigger. Conversion disorder,
formerly known as hysteria is considered a psychiatric disorder by the Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders, which classifies it as a somatoform disorder. Contrary, World Health
Organization s International Classification of Diseases
(ICD 10) classifies it as a dissociative disorder.
The diagnosis of this neurological disorder has been problematic in the past, since doctors have
conceptually and practically differentiated its symptoms from those of neurological diseases for which
it is known to be. Most psychologists have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diagnosis of conversion disorder involves three elements all of which present some degree of
controversy. These three elements are: the exclusion of neurological disease, feigning and finally the
determination of a psychological mechanism. During the first stage, conversion disorder may
resemble neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, stroke or epilepsy therefore they must be
carefully excluded through appropriate examinations. In rare cases, patients with neurological disease
may also have conversion disorder, which further complicates the determination of the degree of the
conversion disorder in the patient. Exclusion of conscious simulation is only possible where a patient
confesses or is caught out in a broader deception. Lastly, establishment of a psychological mechanism
is the most difficult aspect of conversion disorder diagnosis. DSM IV recommends that clinicians
assume preceding stressors to be associated with the progress of the disorder which is still a subject of
debate.
Notably, cultural influences have been noted to affect the somatoform disorders. Cultures such as the
Puerto Rican and the Greek are known to report higher rates of somatization disorders among the men
than is the case in the United States. In addition, cases of somatization disorders are less common
among persons with higher levels of education compared to the less educated. According to Robert
(2002), rates are higher outside of the west, which can be attributed to

Loud Music from Night Clubs and Hearing Damage Essay
Amplified music from night clubs can lead to hearing damage
Shifts in hearing thresholds can result in excessive exposure to any kind of sound. It not matters
whether the sound is pleasant or not nor the music genre, the degree of noise induced hearing loss
(NIHL) depends on the intensity and frequency characteristics of the noise, along with its duration and
the intermittency of the exposure. Individual genetic and environmental factors also play important
part(Bovo, Ciorba, Martini, 2007).
Hetu and Fortin (1995) studied the characteristics of highly amplified music in discotheques from
psychoacoustic and phenomenological points of view. They found that the amplified music is
characterized by strong pulsations (≈ 2 Hz), a narrow dynamic ... Show more content on

Recreational noise exposure (nightclubs and music players) is unlikely to cause the above direct
damage. Rather than direct mechanical injury, the process is a combination of metabolic and
mechanical changes. The music is more damaging when it is impulsive (energy is highly concentrated
in the time domain) and contains spectral energy peaks (over stimulation of local specific frequency
region of the cochlea), the stereocilla of the hair cells are the most vulnerable organ(Dobrucki et al.,
2013).
Several mechanisms have been proposed for TTS. This includes increased shearing force of the hair
cells, synaptic fatigue, metabolic exhaustion of the outer hair cells (OHCs) and inner hair cells (IHCs)
due to overload, and changes in blood supply to the cochlea(Yamasoba, Pourbakht, Sakamoto, Suzuki,
2005). The internal amplification system of the cochlea is thus impaired as shown in LePage and
Murray (1997) s research by studying otoacoustic emissions. Yamasoba et al. (2005) suggested that
constant overstimulation of the metabolic process could result in production of by products like
reactive oxygen species and free oxygen radicals, which triggers cell necrosis or apoptosis. They also
found pathological changes of the hair cells along with TTS, such as hair cells disorganisation and
fusion, floppy stereocilia, collapsing of the pillar bodies and swelling of the afferent nerve endings.
For IHCs, in addition to

Occupation In The Film October Sky
In the film, October Sky , the main occupation during that era was to work at the coal mine; almost
every man worked as a miner to obtain money to raise their family. The coal mine is a very dangerous
place to work however: a large amount of dust in the coal mine can cause respiratory damage to the
miners and the rocks and debris can kill the miners if it falls on them. John Hickam was a miner that

A significant percentage of the steel sold to service centers found its way to end users in the
automotive sector and the appliance and equipment industries. Taken together, these three customer
groups accounted for half of total domestic shipments and three quarters of the shipments of flat sheet.
Service centers emphasized the most basic form of flat sheet, hot rolled sheet, whereas the others
direct purchases were weighted toward cold rolled and coated sheet that had been subjected to further
primary processing. Construction accounted for another one tenth of shipments of all steel mill
products and of flat sheet. Price, quality and dependability were the three most important buyer
purchasing criteria. Uncompetitive pricing was probably the major reason U.S. steelmakers had lost
ground to imports. Integrated steelmakers had been criticized, in particular, for charging excessive
premia in periods of tight supply, pressing buyers to purchase higher grade steel than they needed,
requiring minimum orders that were too large for many buyers and arbitrarily favoring some buyers
over others. Quality had several dimensions: internal quality, as determined by metallurgical structure
and physical strength, which mattered most when durability was important; surface quality, which was
a major concern in uses

I am a Filipino Through the Eyes of an American Citizen
In Webster s New Dictionary, history is defined as a study of past events; course of life or existence.
Without history, we wouldn t know our cultures, where we came from, and the major events that
changed the world. This is true for many people, because some of them don t know their culture or
their families history. People of color, especially many minorities who are born in America (second
generation) tend to not learn their histories, for they have to adapt to the American lifestyle which
make them lose a part of their identity. Another reason why many second generations don t know their

Even though we lived in different counties, our home styles are the same. We both live under the rules
of a Filipino home. For example, we would always respect our parents or elders by sickoleding them,
obeying their wishes, and always cooking rice (DeGuia). For the both of us, our homes are source to
our history. This is where we have sculptures or paintings of the Philippines, such as The Many Knifes

But for DeGuia his parents had jobs that paid a lot. His mother is a teacher and his father an engineer.
The reason why his parents have different jobs is that they immigrated in different years. DeGuia s
parents came in 1969, a time when America had an immigration act to bring professional workers to

she left Philippines was that she wanted to get away from her aunt. DeGuia s mother had no father

good leadership. From abolishing slavery and preserving the Union, to fighting tyranny and
oppression abroad, both events in American history had a profound impact on all those involved. The
impact would most certainly be different if not for the leadership of Colonel Lawrence Chamberlain of
the Union Army during the Civil War and General George S. Patton during World War II. Both leaders
possessed the 5 practices essential for god leadership, yet both leaders to different approaches to
accomplish their goals. The leadership of General George S. Patton can be viewed as an example of
transactional leadership. This type of leadership makes followers of an organization achieve objectives
through rewards and punishment . This can be shown in the scene in Patton where he is meeting his
new soldiers for the first time. As he is driving through the streets of North Africa, he sees his fellow
soldiers are poorly dressed and not all in uniform. Soldiers had just finished a

According To The New American Standard Bible Exodus
Breaking news! A man named Moses just experienced a life change event. He claims that God came to
him through a burning bush. Moses stated after this miraculous event to a reporter near Mount Horeb,
There was an angle in the distance coming from a flaming bush that was not being consumed. He was
astonished by this and decided that he must go over and experience this event. Moses also said, It was
God. He called me to remove my sandals for it was holy ground. According to the New American
Standard Bible Exodus 3:15 16, God told Moses that His name is I am who am and that He is the God
of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Not only has God amazed many around the world through this burning
bush, but there is even more to Moses story that is life changing. Moses told us that God has instructed

The Israelites have been enslaved for about 215 years and they have lost all hope for freedom. One
Israelite said, If you really saw God, why has he waited so long to save us. We have been suffering for
so long that this event is too unexpected to believe. To answer this question, according to the New
American Standard Bible Exodus 3:7 8 God said to Moses, I have witnessed the affliction of my
people in Egypt and have heard their cry against their taskmasters, so I know well what they are
suffering. Therefore I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them
up from that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey, the country of
the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Hivites and the Jebusites.

For many years after the death of Christ, Christianity had many sectarian groups until it was
standardized by the late fourth century in the Roman Empire. One of these groups was the Gnostic
Christians. They believed God was a dyad, or as one having both male and female characteristics and
as a result, practiced this equality between men and women in their communities. They clashed with
the orthodox community during the second to fourth century and their teachings were excluded from
the canonical teachings known as the New Testament. The standardized scriptures influenced the
doctrine known today as orthodox, or correct teachings (Bentley and Zeigler 251). The traditional
orthodox beliefs that women are to be subordinate to men are a ... Show more content on

The erasure of feminine imagery for God can be attributed to the social consequences that came from
believing in a God that had masculine and feminine characteristics.
The gnostics belief in their God also translated over into the gender roles of their communities.
Women in the church were allowed hold roles that for the orthodox church were reserved only for men
such as being a priest, prophet, healer, and evangelist. Though several women also held those roles ten
to twenty years after Jesus death, prominent men in the Orthodox Church such as Bishop Irenaeus and
Tertullian labeled the gnostics as heretics and expressed blasphemy over the fact that women were
treated as equals (85). This patriarchal view may have been influenced due to various cultural
influences in the churches of the Roman Empire, such as the arrival of Hellenized Jews. Traditional
Jewish beliefs are seen in Paul s viewpoint of the role of women as he argues from a conception of a
masculine God. He says, ...a man...is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man (qtd.
in Pagels 86) for his justification of the subordination of women. By 200 BC, majority of Christian
churches supported the pseudo Pauline letter of Timothy, which read Let a woman learn in silence
with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep
silent (qtd. in Pagels 86), which correlated to the start of the

Graduation Speech On High School
Dear graduates, just between us, tell me: are you done with High School? Are you ready to move on to

you thought that you were already ready when I was your soccer coach in Middle School! I promise I

Our life is full of temporary things. You keep moving on to the thing as the years pass.

God has given you a deposit now which points toward the time when you will receive in full the

Terra Nova Sparknotes
The play Terra Nova opens with the protagonist Captain Robert Falcon Scott, trying to write a letter to
the public. However, Scott was having difficulty to do so, as he s too weak and weary, he seems to
have suffered from frostbites in his hand but he continues to write, speaking his words out loud. At the
same time Roald Amundsen, a Norwegian explorer also enters the stage, introducing Scott to the
members of the Royal Society, who gathered together in honored of him. Amundsen introduction of
Scott was the first hint to the audiences that Scott was already dead, and his story is told through the
journal and letters that were later found.
Captain Scott s exploration began with the scene of his four men s Oates, Bowers, Wilson, and Evans
crossing the Antarctic on foot, dragging along a one thousand pound sled with them. While their
competitor, Amundsen was much faster in the race by using sled dogs, later slaughtering them when
they re no longer in good used. Scott refuses the aid of dogs, as he perceives it to be barbaric. Each of
Scott s men has a different personality, bringing life to the play. Oates is a hardened soldier, while
Bowers keeps the men on their feet with his optimism, Wilson plays important roles, as he s the doctor
and Evans is the largest and strongest of the five men. However, Evan was the first one to fall.

Our heritage and ideals, our hieroglyphics and manual to live, the things we fulfil we teach our

In Northern Mediterranean, there is large amount of sunshine and cloudless in summer time, and these
lead to lack of water, so they have to grow crop in winter time. Growing crop in winter season make
crops grow slower in speed and smaller in size, because of lacking sunshine; warmer temperature
make crops grow faster. In Western Mediterranean, they have arid summer, even drier than Northern
Mediterranean. They are lacking of rainfall, which created little run off, and causing a lot of
evapotranspiration. Luckily, this issue has been overcome by the large amount of water from Atlantic
Ocean. The temperature also affect the color of fruit, and the color of fruit will affect their sweetness.
For example, the mandarins need low temperature in dark night in order to be sweet, so the mandarins
from Northern Mediterranean will be sweeter than Western Mediterranean. Let me give a great
example in this case, the mandarins from Italy and Greece are very similar, because the mandarins are

Willa Cather s My Antonia
Willa Cather s My Antonia is one of those novels that stands the length of time and firms its place in
Nebraska history as something that should be passed down from generation to generation. The
descriptions of the prairie s scenic landscape to the first impressions homesteaders had as they set foot
off the train to start a new life are all too omnipresent tales of experience in the Great Plains during the
19th century. This excerpt proudly displays Willa Cather s prose, As I looked about me I felt that the
grass was the country, as the water is the sea. The red of the grass made all the great prairie the color
of wine stains, or of certain seaweeds when they are first washed up. And there was so much motion in
it; the whole country seemed, somehow, to be running. The beauty of her writing takes a ... Show

The dominant theme of the novel is the parallel lives of the two and their move from the prairie to the
city. It is there where Jim finds a world in stark contrast to the work and relationships found in the
Great Plains. Also, the story is about Antonia and her experiences as a migrant worker and young
woman. A strong theme is displayed in how the group of poor migrant women in this town work as
farmers, nannies, and maids as they grow up and decide where their paths will take them based off
their early choices. In the end, Antonia is where she precisely wants to be, married and parenting
children. I drew a line from the story that correctly honors this notion of Antonia s appearance to Jim
when he reunites with her after many years; I know so many women who have kept all the things she
had lost, but whose inner glow has faded. Whatever else was gone, Antonia had not lost the fire of her
life. Her skin, so brown and hardened, had not that look of flabbiness, as if the sap beneath it had been

Twelfth Night Madness Essay
In a Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare there are many themes portrayed but the most prevalent
was the topic of madness. The play Twelfth Night shows us that madness is merely a perception. This
will be proved by three main proofs as seen in the play. These proofs are; Sebastian s view of Olivia

paraphernalia from the play such as quotes and examples from the play will be used to demonstrate
the perceived changes of madness towards these characters.
To begin, Sebastian s constantly fluent view of Olivia will be explored. When Sebastian first meets

The Importance Of Homeostasis And A State Of Equilibrium...
All living things strive towards one goal: homeostasis. Homeostasis is a state of equilibrium reached
through physiological processes. In order to maintain homeostasis, living things use cells, tissues,
organs, and organ systems to counteract physical changes. Using a variety of different tissues, organs
are formed to accomplish specific tasks. The four main types of tissues are epithelial tissue,
connective tissue, muscular tissue, and nervous tissue. Several sublevels exist for each type of tissue.
Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces and lines body cavities. The three main kinds of Epithelial
tissue are squamous which is composed of flat cells, cuboidal, which is composed of cube shaped
cells, and columnar which is composed of stretched, pillar like cells. Each type of epithelial tissue can
be either simple or stratified. Simple is one layer of cells, while stratified has more than one layer.
Each type can also be glandular. Glands can be either one epithelial cell or multiple cells. Its purpose
is to secrete products into different parts of the body or outside of the body. Exocrine glands secrete
their products into ducts or directly into a tube/cavity. Endocrine glands secrete their products directly
into the bloodstream. Examples of epithelial tissue are the linings of lungs, kidneys, small intestine,
and the nose. A common trait that all epithelial tissue have is that they are attached to the basement
membrane, a thin layer of proteins that anchors to connective

The Structural Adjustment Program Project
The structural adjustment program project is one project of the World Bank that created substantial
problems for the assisted nation, which in this case is Burundi. The structural adjustment program is a
sort of lending program by the World Bank for countries whose economies are experiencing crisis.
However, this lending program requires certain reforms and policies to be implemented by the
receiving country in exchange for loans. In other words, the loans are strictly conditional, and these
conditionality attachments are the root cause through which the project creates problems for the
assisted nation. According to the CIA, Burundi is one of the world s poorest countries having poor
resources with a high rate of poverty, an undeveloped manufacturing sector and foreign aid represents
42% of Burundi s national income. Retrieved from https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the world

program with special attention to macroeconomic and public sector management. It recommends

Many children will adjust to their parents divorce, but some will continue to have significant problems
into adulthood. Parents sensitivity to their child s needs is one of the most important factors in
facilitating adjustment. Other factors such as the child s age, gender and temperament will also
influence how well the child adjusts. Preschoolers tend to be emotionally needy, have fears related to
abandonment, and may display acting out behaviors following their parents divorce or separation.
Preschooler are likely to become very distressed during visit exchanges. Boys and girls tend to react
differently to their parents divorce. As a rule, girls tend to become anxious and withdrawn, while boys
tend to become more aggressive and disobedient. Girls from divorced families may become sexually
active earlier than girls from intact families. Interestingly, boys often adjust better when their mothers
remarry, while girls have more difficulty. Children of divorced families tend to have long term
adjustment difficulties when there is ongoing conflict between their parents. Boys are likely to display
marked behavior problems when this exists. Children s adjustment is also determined by the amount
of conflict the parents had before the divorce. Researchers have found that children in divorced
families, where there is little conflict following the divorce, do not differ in adjustment than children

Nietzsche Overcoming Nihilism Analysis
Friedrich Nietzsche: Overcoming Nihilism
The understanding of Friedrich Nietzsche s argument suggests that we can overcome nihilism.
Nihilism suggests that all values are untrue and nothing is justifiable, and Nietzsche believes one can
overcome it by revaluating our values (Nietzsche et al. 1887). From the following quote, I understand
that Nietzsche has two main arguments, one of which is a cultural debunking argument which refers to
a social selection and the other is a consequence based argument which is the bad consequences of us
subscribing to the slave morality. Considering these two arguments, Nietzsche notions that by
devaluating our values, one could start seeking power and answers. One final argument Nietzsche
mentions is that we are all incomplete nihilists and we need to become complete nihilists by creating
our own values. All in all, Nietzsche claims that cultural debunking arguments, consequence based
arguments and devaluating our values will help one overcome nihilism.
Firstly, by culturally debunking theories, Nietzsche believes we can find meaning in something that is
not already there. Nihilism states that existence has no aim , unity or truth to it, making life valueless
as a result (1888). Nietzsche states that we have to put meaning into this fictitious world and by doing
so, we can deposit a true world beyond the world we re familiar with. In premise one of the cultural
debunking argument, Nietzsche states that society has a concern with

While reviewing this website, I ve come to understand that cloning meat is and has been treacherous
to us for providing harm to our farm animals by giving them high doses of different chemicals,
making them live with birth defects and making statements to deceive the public by saying it s a
harmless process that enhances and multiply the breed of animals when it really does not. The scariest
part to this issue is our animals suffer and so do we if we re meat consumers. (Dan Kedmey) Then
studies have proven that bacteriological meat contamination in the US, for the first time was enacted
in 1906 when the Pure Food and Drug Act was signed by laws in regards of banning infected and
mislabeled products from the interstate commerce. Observations about those risks were associated
with bacteriological meat contamination, and about how it should be regulated, has changed
significantly since then. This article focuses particularly on changes that have occurred in
bacteriological meat contamination standards in the US since the early 1980s when E. coli was for the
first time identified as a new foodborne pathogen associated with the consumption of undercooked
meat. The idea of cloning farm animals is to produce replicas of the animals with the highest
economic value, for example the fastest growing pigs or the highest yielding dairy cows to make a
profit off of. However the process of cloning itself causes our animals suffering. Animals with the
highest economic value are prone to developing severe health problems, pushed to their physical
limits; they are destined to a lifetime of suffering. The Cloning equals Cruelty campaign highlighted
intrinsic animal welfare issues for selective breeding in animals for food, meat and dairy. Research
also shows that many cloned farm animals are born with deformed organs and live short and miserable

The Lady Boss: Women In Entrepreneurship and Procurement
Women entrepreneurs are making their mark in entrepreneurship. According to facts from the National
Women s Business Council, women owned firms are growing and are continuing to help in employing
people. Women are also becoming active in the entrepreneurship world and they contribute their
different style compared to men entrepreneurs.
Some women entrepreneurs are confident to thrive in a male dominated industry while other women
entrepreneurs cater to other women and their concerns, needs and wants. In both aspects, women play
the game and they have the chance to be successful. Women are slowly taking the path of
entrepreneurship and most often make the transit from employer or housewife to a full fledged
entrepreneur in their own right. And such opportunities are not denied to them.

What Made The Union Forces Able To Achieve Victory In The...
The Union forces were able to make great gains in the western campaign by taking and controlling the
major water ways, allowing the ability to swiftly maneuver their forces and supplies around the battle
field; in turn extensible cutting off the Confederacy. This was accomplished through three key facts: a
far superior ship building capability then the Confederates, understanding the importance of
controlling the major river networks, and the effective employment of combined operations to achieve
success. These three items allowed the Union to quickly gain a foothold and then spread control over
the three major rivers in the area: the Mississippi, Cumberland, and the Tennessee Rivers. At the onset
of the war, both sides struggled with combat capable ships. The Union though, was able to establish a
much stronger production capability than the Confederates, who lacked materials and secure locations
to build. The Union quickly set into production a new class of fighting ships, which would be called
the City Classers. These first of its kind ships, designed by Samuel Pook, consisted of three gun ports

later moved to Flint where his father had a construction business. Kelly graduated from Flint High
School, working summers with his father and in the motor test section of the Buick Motor Car
Company. By graduation he had saved up $300. He tried to give it to an Instructor at the Flint Airport
in exchange for flying lessons, but the Instructor shook his head and probably changed the entire
course of Kelly s life. I ve always had the greatest respect for that man, Kelly said later. He needed
that money more than anything else in the world. But instead of taking it, he said, Look kid, save that
money and go to school. Johnson graduated from Flint Junior College and completed his education at
the University of Michigan, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1932. Kelly Johnson
worked his way through school by picking up scholarships, washing dishes and helping a professor as
a teaching Assistant. He went on to receive his Master of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering
in 1933. During this period he picked up small teaching fellowships and augmenting his income by
renting the University s wind tunnel to run tests as a consultant on models of Indianapolis racing cars,
trains and aircraft. I made more money that year than any of the first 10 years I worked for Lockheed.

The Pros and Cons of Space Tourism´s Expansion
With the space program growing the space industry is seeing a greater demand in the market for space
tourism. With these demands to venture out to space there are companies that are venturing out to
make it an opportunity for humans to explore out to the stars. The world is now seeing companies
making it their mission to do orbital, suborbital flights and even live in space. The space industry s
business and economics on the development of new space vehicles for future space tourism is a
concern for these companies. With these orbital and suborbital flights for space tourism there are some
legal ramifications that companies have to also deal with. Most companies that are planning to venture
out to space they have to think of how to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the perceived recent stagnation of NASA activity, there have been several successful efforts by
private manned spacecraft to penetrate the Earth s atmosphere. A few citizens and celebrities have
even ventured out into space. However, will be a long time before space tourism is both profitable for
suppliers and affordable for middle class society.
At the beginning of the millennium we started to see private companies beginning to look for potential
space tourist. The reason for this was to off set their cost to their maintenance. Within the contexts of
orbital spaceflight is to mostly used to differentiate from sub orbital spaceflights, which are flights
where the greatest distance from the Earth (apogee) of a spacecraft reaches space but altitude at the
closest approach (perigee) is too low. Space X and their Dragon spacecraft is a current project. Also,
Boeing is making their CST 100. Excalibur Almaz, a private company based in the Isle of Man, plans
to use modernized TKS space capsules to carry paying research crews into low Earth orbit and
beyond. In June 2012, it announced it was ready to sell tickets for private expeditions to the moon, and
expects to undertake the first of these voyages by 2015. Russian company Space Adventures offered
space flights during 2001 2009 to the International Space Station aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft.

Copper Reaction Lab Report
AP Chemistry
12/13/11
Round Trip Copper Reactions Lab
The purpose of this lab was to evaluate our skills of decanting a supernatant liquid without losing the
solid and successful completion of a series of reactions. This was done through five chemical reactions
involving copper. In this lab, elemental copper was put through five different chemical reactions in
order to convert it into different compounds. By the end of the fifth reaction, the copper was back to
its elemental state. In the first reaction, 0.95 g of pure copper was reacted with 4.0 mL of concentrated
nitric acid under the fume hood. The solution was swirled until all of the copper had dissolved. The
balanced equation for this reaction is as follows:
Cu (s) + ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The black precipitate was allowed to settle and then the supernatant, the clear liquid that lies above a
precipitate, was decanted, or poured carefully off. Then, 200 mL of hot distilled water was added and
the precipitate was allowed to settle to repeat the decanting process again. In the fourth reaction, 15
mL of 6.0 M sulfuric acid was added to the copper (II) oxide while stirring. The balanced equation for
this reaction is as follows:
CuO (s) + H2SO4 (aq) à CuSO4 (aq) + H2O (l) + SO2 (g)
When the sulfuric acid was added to copper (II) oxide, the solution turned blue. This was due to the
formation of aqueous copper (II) sulfate, which produced the copper ions to change the color of the
solution. In the fifth reaction, 2.29 g of zinc was added to the copper (II) sulfate solution under the
fume hood. The balanced equation for this reaction is written as followed:
Zn (s) + CuSO4 (aq) à ZnSO4 (aq) + Cu (s)
When the zinc was added to the copper (II) sulfate solution, the solution started to bubble. As the
solution was stirred, it turned a cloudy blue. Small flecks of a brown solid were visible. As the
solution became colorless, the brown solid settled to the bottom of the beaker. The solid formed was
copper in its elemental state. The color faded from the solution as the copper ions slowly formed into
solid copper. The copper was poured into a funnel with filter paper and washed three times with 25

Plato s Phaedo Essay
Plato s Phaedo
Plato s Phaedo is a dialog between Phaedo, Cebes, and Simmias depicting Socrates explanation as to
why death should not be feared by a true philosopher. For if a person truly applies oneself in the right
way to philosophy, as the pursuit of ultimate truth, they are preparing themselves for the very act of
dying. Plato, through Socrates, bases his proof on the immortality of the soul, and it being the origin
of our intellect. Several steps must be taken for the soul to be proven immortal. First the body and all
the information acquired though it must be discredited. For without the question being addressed of
whether sensory information can be trusted, looking inwards towards the soul and the intangible for

Our intellect makes the correction that it was always a man, and it was actually a visual error that
made him seem female. Distance or any other means of creating ambiguity leads us to differentiate
between what we experience and what we know to be actually happening. If a differentiation has to
take place between the crude sensory information and what we view as reality, than the truth or
meaning within an object is not held within the sensory perception of it. Well, have you ever
apprehended them with any other bodily sense? By them I mean them all, including tallness or health
or strength in themselves, the real nature of any given thing what it actually is. Is it through the body
that we get our truest view of them? Isn t it true that in any inquiry you are likely to attain more nearly
to knowledge of your object in proportion to the care and accuracy with which you have prepared
yourself to understand that object in itself? (2) Besides the processing of inaccurate information, the
temptations and desires of the body are so strong and numerous that the philosopher never gets an
opportunity to think. (3) The functions of the body that are being described as distractions and
contradictions are in fact the fundamental processes of life. To view these as burdensome is to
perceive the functions of life, those of physical necessity as well as joy and contentment, as an
annoyance. A nagging that would be appreciated only if

Canon The Kite Runner
The novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini fits in the American literary canon because it exhibits
characteristics of American culture and has impact on it. The American literary canon is perpetually
changing and the criteria for being accepted has drastically changed over time. The exclusivity of
distinct canons insures that they remain influential but diverse, however canons previously only
consisted of old or dead white men. Since then, society has evolved it s way of thinking. Critics began
allowing a more diverse selection of authors into the canon, while still maintaining the exclusivity,
thus allowing The Kite Runner to be accepted into the canon. The American influenced themes and

Mary Shelly Essay examples
Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly has written many books in her life. She has received much criticism about
one of her books inperticular, Frankenstien. Frankenstein was one of her most famous novels. Shelly
had written Frankenstein in order to enter a contest but what few people realized was that
Frankenstein was one of many nightmares that Shelly had during her rough childhood. Shelly has
become one of the most renowned Gothic authors because of her use of graphic descriptions and
settings and her use of many significant themes. Mary Wollstonecraft Shelly was born in London on

Finally, in late 1819, a forth child was born. A son, Percy Florence, was the only one of the four
children to grow to maturity (Bloom 3015). On the morning of July 28, 1822, Percy Shelly was sailing
with his close friend Edward Williams in his boat Ariel. The boat was tipped and Shelly drowned in
the Gulf of Spezia during a heavy storm. After Percy s death, Mary refused to turn her son over to
Percy s father Sir Timothy, so she turned to writing to support her family (Drabble 121). Some of
Shelley s earlier novels include: Valperga (1823), The Last Man (1826), and TheFortune of Perkin
Warbeck (1830) (Drabble 122). Many people consider The Last Man to be Shelley s most famous
work. The central vision of this novel is the spiral of human history in the central vision. The Last
Man is set in the distant future, at the time, of the twenty first century. This novel begins with a
peaceful and flourishing society but tragically ends with total death throughout the world by the
plague. Only one man survives this decimation, Lionel Verney (Bloom 3018). Lionel Verney has
nothing to anticipate except the endless and desolate journey from city to city. All of the world s
treasures are his for enjoyment. All of the great libraries and coffers are open to him only. Only one
thing is missing from this novel, companionship. Companionship is a key aspect of The Last Man.

  • 2. My Last Soccer Game Passes were flying, brisk and beautifully, to their intended targets. The kicks, arched with perfection, barely kissed the ground before their departure was rocketed off in direction of the stark white goal posts. As I gazed around the field, I gathered this sense of calm from my team mates. The scoreboard counted down towards start of the game as the breeze whispered to me a silent farewell. But the breeze wasn t my concern at this point; we were about to play Richland center and I had a good feeling that today was going to be one to remember. Coach called everyone over to the gleaming metal benches located on the Richland center Track that surrounds the football field. In this instance however, it also doubled as the soccer ... This is when instinct kicked in, and I assumed center stage along with the streaking orange RC player. The world in my eyes had changed. Nothing mattered more to me at this moment then shutting down that player. I had done this over a hundred times. I was on them in a flash, but that split second was all it took. I felt a pop. The ball was out of bounds and I was on the ground. But why was I on the ground? This had never happened before. The Richland center player capitalized on my lapse in concentration and restarted the play before I could think any longer on the matter. And that s when I knew something was wrong. Everything sort of stopped; all noise became absolutely pin drop silent. I couldn t even feel the sting of the cold breeze. The only thing that mattered was stopping them from scoring. We had worked to hard for me to give up. I kicked the ball out of bounds once again. The world was sort of coming back at this point. And all I could hear was people yelling at me to sit down. Why would I want to sit down? They were going to score; I couldn t let them do that. The team shouldn t be asking me to do anything of the sort. That s when I noticed I was limping. • 3. Bay City Fire Department Case Study The situation that is happening with the Bay City Fire Department is very disturbing because they are supposed to be one of the few pillars in the community for people to trust to get their job done, and I believe they have a very important role to fulfill but they are slacking majorly. A few speculations on why they are violating standard operational procedures because that is how the older firefighters did it in the past. Since many of the firefighters in charge are much older than the recruits they have ways of doing tasks differently than the new regulations that were put in place over the years. Another speculation that could be made is that there may not be much commotion in the community and whoever gets to the fire the quickest or to the accident the fastest will get the recognition and the excitement of completing a task. Thirdly, the mild form of hazing that the veterans put the recruits through contributes to why they are not progressing and why many of them are dying in fires. They are taught by the older ones that they have to look and follow specific duties in order to become a real firefighter. The last reason they might be having so many accidents is that the older regulations that the captains are following and the new regulations that recruits are following are clashing literally with the truck crashes and figuratively with ideologies. ... • 5. The Blind Side Character Analysis John Lee Hancock s film The Blind Side describes the struggles of an African American becoming part of a white society. Micheal Or, the main character, shows us the audience how black lower class Americans are mistreated and racism from white individuals. Micheal growing up without a father and with a single mother can also show how generous and sweet he truly is. The so called gentle giant being a staggering six foot four inches and three hundred fifteen pounds was everything a college football player should be but with outside help he could put this size to use. Trying to find each meal and a home to stay in every night is when the Tuohy family takes him in and can see him for who he is and not how he is perceived in the community. From there Hancock s movie shows us how the different issues of a white society such as discrimination for race, and cultural differences can be a false door so to say. Based on character development, a change in society, and plot twist that will leave the viewer wondering what will happen next, The Blind Side is one of the best sports related movies about the struggle of racism. Character development is what gets the movie viewer wrapped around a person in the story. In this particular movie Michael is an easy character to feel sorry for as well as fall in love with for being a large man with a soft heart. • 6. Informative Speech On The Roman Colosseum SOSE Script Hello guys, today I am going to talk about one of the most impressive architectures in history. The colosseum, and how it has influenced our modern architecture. This architecture has managed to remain notable up until today. Even in the world full of tall buildings, it stands as the glorious monument to represent the Roman Empire and its entertainment. The Roman Colosseum, or the Flavian Amphitheatre was first commissioned by the emperor Vespasian in the year of 72 AD. It was built for the entertainment of the Roman people. The monument measures 190m by 155 metres and was the largest amphitheatre that ever existed in the Roman Empire. In addition, while many other amphitheatres had been placed into hillsides for support, the colosseum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has some kind of history to it as well. It all started with the suicide of Emperor Nero in 68AD and the 18 months of civil war that it brought. During this short period of time, there was the rise and fall of three Emperors. Though this ended with the succession of Vespasian, who was the start of the Flavian Dynasty. Right after becoming emperor, the first task that Vespasian accomplished was rebuilding the city of Rome, which had been damaged due to the civil war. However, coming in right after this task, marking his identity in the city was probably the next most important for him; and the colosseum did the trick. The Roman colosseum was to become the focus of the New Flavian dynasty. Therefore, the location chosen for the colosseum was significant as well. This significant site, where the colosseum was built on was the site of the infamous Golden house of Nero. This location was perfect for the colosseum. You ask why? It was because it was in the heart of Rome, where it stood as the symbol of might, wealth and power of the Roman Empire. Also, Vespasian s decision to build the colosseum here can be seen as a returning of a part of the city back to the people, which Nero had used for his personal use (RomanColossseum, ... How can Art be Defined The search for a definition of Art has been subject of a complex philosophical reflection incorporated; however, within different thematics because the very idea of Art is changeable as it relies on the culture and the tradition of a particular epoch. Etymologically, the word Aesthetics derives from the Greek àisthesis, which means perception by the senses. It used to refer as the study of the world of perceptions as the doctrine aimed to discover the complexity of perceptive knowledge. In ancient times, the concept of Art was closely related to the practice with the technique which Plato argued were, certainly, not positive. According to the philosopher, Art and Tragedy are copies of copies, the copies of the sensible world. He argues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Faced with the difficulties encountered by the circularity of the Institutional theory, some theoreticians have tried to develop some definitions based on the relational properties of art, changing the terms of the essential relationships between its properties. On this terms, a very interesting approach has been suggested by Levinson (1979), who is committed to the development of a definition in which the Art is identified through the relationship with history. Levinson (1979) argues that an object is a work of art if it has been created to be perceived and evaluated in the same way that previous and recognized works of art have been received and evaluated. In other words, what is art today resembles the continuing relationship which justifies the attribution of the status of Artwork. His theory, known as the Historical Intentional, is halfway between the Institutional and the other traditional Aesthetics definitions. Levinson s proposal differs significantly from that of Dickie (1974), and the difference lies in the recovery of a real contact with our relationship with history and with the Artworks. Even though I truly appreciate the effort of philosophers in trying to identify a generic definition, I assume that there is not a unique definition of Art, this word is far too complex and matter of subjectivity, and I believe that it is not necessary to incorporate the universal in the particular. Art is generally the perception of beauty, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After the medieval ended what followed was the little ice age; the little ice age is a period between the thirteen hundreds to the eighteen seventies. During this time Europe and North America were subjected to a much colder winters than during the 20th century. Scientists believe the cause of this period was cyclical lows in solar radiation, heightened volcanic activity, changes in the ocean circulation, variations in earth s orbit, and axial tilt, inherent variability in global climate and decrease in the human population these just the few reasons why the little ice age was formed. Climate change has caused many problems to humans and ironically the cause of it are humans them selves. Priority industries are identified as having a high number of injury and / or fatalities or hazardous in nature (Safe Work Australia, 2012). The foundation of risk management is to prevent incidents from occurring. Accident causation theory are models or tools that are used to assist in investigating incidents in order to prevent recurrence (Boyle, 2012). The construction industry has been identified as a priority industry for Australia (Safe Work Australia, 2012) and will be the focus of the review. The development of an incident reporting template will be supported by causation models identified as relevant to the construction industry. This template will be designed for a medium sized organisation defined as having 21 99 workers. This study starts by performing a review and literature critic of accident causation theories and models. This review highlights the two most relevant causation theories to the construction industry as Reason s Swiss cheese model and System dynamics model for the causation of unsafe behaviours (SD CUB). Both models are discussed in more detail with a comparison of model strengths and weaknesses. From the comparison an incident reporting template is developed. Finally it is argued that a systematic robust model should be applied that can manage the variables in the changing work environment of the construction industry and concludes risk ... • 11. Is Photography A Game Of Inventing Meanings John Berger once said, One can play a game of inventing meanings. He was conveying the idea that when one person interprets a photograph to have a particular meaning, the same picture might have a varying level of significance to another person. In our culture today photographs take on many roles, both traditional and new. They are used to tell a story and are a port into a particular moment. Photography allows us to see past initial perceptions and make connections to our everyday lives. All photography is subjective to different views and therefore contains a set of diverse meanings. In recent years photography has taken on a more significant role compared to past generations; it can be used to express these diverse views, and connect people from all different cultures and backgrounds. We take pictures of many distinct and sometimes trivial moments that have a powerful meaning to us, and that meaning can now be shared with the world. ¨ And in life, meaning is not instantaneous. Meaning is discovered in what connects, and cannot exist without development¨(Berger). Photography is all about connections. The picture is captured, and then shared with others, the meaning behind it may not be apparent right away, but gradually it comes to light the longer the image is studied and developed. Today we take photographs to connect us with specific people in specific places at specific times. When we first view a photograph we have an initial reaction and the picture will have a ... Conversion Disorder Conversion disorder is a medical condition where its sufferers present neurological symptoms such as paralysis, numbness, blindness or fits without a known neurological trigger. Conversion disorder, formerly known as hysteria is considered a psychiatric disorder by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which classifies it as a somatoform disorder. Contrary, World Health Organization s International Classification of Diseases (ICD 10) classifies it as a dissociative disorder. Most psychologists have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The diagnosis of conversion disorder involves three elements all of which present some degree of controversy. These three elements are: the exclusion of neurological disease, feigning and finally the determination of a psychological mechanism. During the first stage, conversion disorder may resemble neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, stroke or epilepsy therefore they must be carefully excluded through appropriate examinations. In rare cases, patients with neurological disease may also have conversion disorder, which further complicates the determination of the degree of the conversion disorder in the patient. Exclusion of conscious simulation is only possible where a patient confesses or is caught out in a broader deception. Lastly, establishment of a psychological mechanism is the most difficult aspect of conversion disorder diagnosis. DSM IV recommends that clinicians assume preceding stressors to be associated with the progress of the disorder which is still a subject of debate. Notably, cultural influences have been noted to affect the somatoform disorders. Cultures such as the Puerto Rican and the Greek are known to report higher rates of somatization disorders among the men than is the case in the United States. In addition, cases of somatization disorders are less common among persons with higher levels of education compared to the less educated. • 13. Loud Music from Night Clubs and Hearing Damage Essay Amplified music from night clubs can lead to hearing damage Shifts in hearing thresholds can result in excessive exposure to any kind of sound. It not matters whether the sound is pleasant or not nor the music genre, the degree of noise induced hearing loss (NIHL) depends on the intensity and frequency characteristics of the noise, along with its duration and the intermittency of the exposure. Individual genetic and environmental factors also play important part(Bovo, Ciorba, Martini, 2007). Hetu and Fortin (1995) studied the characteristics of highly amplified music in discotheques from psychoacoustic and phenomenological points of view. They found that the amplified music is characterized by strong pulsations (≈ 2 Hz), a narrow dynamic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recreational noise exposure (nightclubs and music players) is unlikely to cause the above direct damage. Rather than direct mechanical injury, the process is a combination of metabolic and mechanical changes. The music is more damaging when it is impulsive (energy is highly concentrated in the time domain) and contains spectral energy peaks (over stimulation of local specific frequency region of the cochlea), the stereocilla of the hair cells are the most vulnerable organ(Dobrucki et al., 2013). Several mechanisms have been proposed for TTS. This includes increased shearing force of the hair cells, synaptic fatigue, metabolic exhaustion of the outer hair cells (OHCs) and inner hair cells (IHCs) due to overload, and changes in blood supply to the cochlea(Yamasoba, Pourbakht, Sakamoto, Suzuki, 2005). The internal amplification system of the cochlea is thus impaired as shown in LePage and Murray (1997) s research by studying otoacoustic emissions. Yamasoba et al. (2005) suggested that constant overstimulation of the metabolic process could result in production of by products like reactive oxygen species and free oxygen radicals, which triggers cell necrosis or apoptosis. They also found pathological changes of the hair cells along with TTS, such as hair cells disorganisation and fusion, floppy stereocilia, collapsing of the pillar bodies and swelling of the afferent nerve endings. Construction accounted for another one tenth of shipments of all steel mill products and of flat sheet. Price, quality and dependability were the three most important buyer purchasing criteria. Uncompetitive pricing was probably the major reason U.S. steelmakers had lost ground to imports. Integrated steelmakers had been criticized, in particular, for charging excessive premia in periods of tight supply, pressing buyers to purchase higher grade steel than they needed, requiring minimum orders that were too large for many buyers and arbitrarily favoring some buyers over others. • 19. The Leadership Challenge Of General George S. Patton... There are a number of qualities that quantify good leaderships and good leaders. According to Kouzes and Posner in their book The Leadership Challenge, all successful leaders have (5) practices in common. They Model the Way , Inspire a shared vision , Challenge the process , enable others to act and encourage the heart (15). Never is there a more important time to have exemplary leadership, than in a time of war. Both the American Civil War and World War II showed what was possible through good leadership. From abolishing slavery and preserving the Union, to fighting tyranny and oppression abroad, both events in American history had a profound impact on all those involved. The impact would most certainly be different if not for the leadership of Colonel Lawrence Chamberlain of the Union Army during the Civil War and General George S. Patton during World War II. Both leaders possessed the 5 practices essential for god leadership, yet both leaders to different approaches to accomplish their goals. The leadership of General George S. Patton can be viewed as an example of transactional leadership. This type of leadership makes followers of an organization achieve objectives through rewards and punishment . This can be shown in the scene in Patton where he is meeting his new soldiers for the first time. As he is driving through the streets of North Africa, he sees his fellow soldiers are poorly dressed and not all in uniform. Soldiers had just finished a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For many years after the death of Christ, Christianity had many sectarian groups until it was standardized by the late fourth century in the Roman Empire. One of these groups was the Gnostic Christians. They believed God was a dyad, or as one having both male and female characteristics and as a result, practiced this equality between men and women in their communities. They clashed with the orthodox community during the second to fourth century and their teachings were excluded from the canonical teachings known as the New Testament. The standardized scriptures influenced the doctrine known today as orthodox, or correct teachings (Bentley and Zeigler 251). The erasure of feminine imagery for God can be attributed to the social consequences that came from believing in a God that had masculine and feminine characteristics. The gnostics belief in their God also translated over into the gender roles of their communities. Women in the church were allowed hold roles that for the orthodox church were reserved only for men such as being a priest, prophet, healer, and evangelist. Though several women also held those roles ten to twenty years after Jesus death, prominent men in the Orthodox Church such as Bishop Irenaeus and Tertullian labeled the gnostics as heretics and expressed blasphemy over the fact that women were treated as equals (85). This patriarchal view may have been influenced due to various cultural influences in the churches of the Roman Empire, such as the arrival of Hellenized Jews. Traditional Jewish beliefs are seen in Paul s viewpoint of the role of women as he argues from a conception of a masculine God. He says, ...a man...is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man (qtd. in Pagels 86) for his justification of the subordination of women. By 200 BC, majority of Christian churches supported the pseudo Pauline letter of Timothy, which read Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. Homeostasis is a state of equilibrium reached through physiological processes. In order to maintain homeostasis, living things use cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems to counteract physical changes. Using a variety of different tissues, organs are formed to accomplish specific tasks. The four main types of tissues are epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscular tissue, and nervous tissue. Several sublevels exist for each type of tissue. Epithelial tissue covers body surfaces and lines body cavities. The three main kinds of Epithelial tissue are squamous which is composed of flat cells, cuboidal, which is composed of cube shaped cells, and columnar which is composed of stretched, pillar like cells. Each type of epithelial tissue can be either simple or stratified. Simple is one layer of cells, while stratified has more than one layer. Each type can also be glandular. Glands can be either one epithelial cell or multiple cells. Its purpose is to secrete products into different parts of the body or outside of the body. Exocrine glands secrete their products into ducts or directly into a tube/cavity. Endocrine glands secrete their products directly into the bloodstream. Nihilism suggests that all values are untrue and nothing is justifiable, and Nietzsche believes one can overcome it by revaluating our values (Nietzsche et al. 1887). From the following quote, I understand that Nietzsche has two main arguments, one of which is a cultural debunking argument which refers to a social selection and the other is a consequence based argument which is the bad consequences of us subscribing to the slave morality. The scariest part to this issue is our animals suffer and so do we if we re meat consumers. The Union forces were able to make great gains in the western campaign by taking and controlling the major water ways, allowing the ability to swiftly maneuver their forces and supplies around the battle field; in turn extensible cutting off the Confederacy. This was accomplished through three key facts: a far superior ship building capability then the Confederates, understanding the importance of controlling the major river networks, and the effective employment of combined operations to achieve success. These three items allowed the Union to quickly gain a foothold and then spread control over the three major rivers in the area: the Mississippi, Cumberland, and the Tennessee Rivers. During the perceived recent stagnation of NASA activity, there have been several successful efforts by private manned spacecraft to penetrate the Earth s atmosphere. A few citizens and celebrities have even ventured out into space. However, will be a long time before space tourism is both profitable for suppliers and affordable for middle class society. At the beginning of the millennium we started to see private companies beginning to look for potential space tourist. The reason for this was to off set their cost to their maintenance. Within the contexts of orbital spaceflight is to mostly used to differentiate from sub orbital spaceflights, which are flights where the greatest distance from the Earth (apogee) of a spacecraft reaches space but altitude at the closest approach (perigee) is too low. Copper Reaction Lab Report AP Chemistry 12/13/11 Round Trip Copper Reactions Lab The purpose of this lab was to evaluate our skills of decanting a supernatant liquid without losing the solid and successful completion of a series of reactions. This was done through five chemical reactions involving copper. In this lab, elemental copper was put through five different chemical reactions in order to convert it into different compounds. By the end of the fifth reaction, the copper was back to its elemental state. In the first reaction, 0.95 g of pure copper was reacted with 4.0 mL of concentrated nitric acid under the fume hood. The solution was swirled until all of the copper had dissolved. The balanced equation for this reaction is as follows: Cu (s) + ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The black precipitate was allowed to settle and then the supernatant, the clear liquid that lies above a precipitate, was decanted, or poured carefully off. Then, 200 mL of hot distilled water was added and the precipitate was allowed to settle to repeat the decanting process again. In the fourth reaction, 15 mL of 6.0 M sulfuric acid was added to the copper (II) oxide while stirring. The balanced equation for this reaction is as follows: CuO (s) + H2SO4 (aq) à CuSO4 (aq) + H2O (l) + SO2 (g) When the sulfuric acid was added to copper (II) oxide, the solution turned blue. This was due to the formation of aqueous copper (II) sulfate, which produced the copper ions to change the color of the solution. In the fifth reaction, 2.29 g of zinc was added to the copper (II) sulfate solution under the fume hood. The balanced equation for this reaction is written as followed: Zn (s) + CuSO4 (aq) à ZnSO4 (aq) + Cu (s) When the zinc was added to the copper (II) sulfate solution, the solution started to bubble. As the solution was stirred, it turned a cloudy blue. Small flecks of a brown solid were visible. As the solution became colorless, the brown solid settled to the bottom of the beaker. The solid formed was copper in its elemental state. The color faded from the solution as the copper ions slowly formed into solid copper. The copper was poured into a funnel with filter paper and washed three times with 25 mL ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Plato s Phaedo Essay Plato s Phaedo Plato s Phaedo is a dialog between Phaedo, Cebes, and Simmias depicting Socrates explanation as to why death should not be feared by a true philosopher. For if a person truly applies oneself in the right way to philosophy, as the pursuit of ultimate truth, they are preparing themselves for the very act of dying. Plato, through Socrates, bases his proof on the immortality of the soul, and it being the origin of our intellect. Several steps must be taken for the soul to be proven immortal. First the body and all the information acquired though it must be discredited. Our intellect makes the correction that it was always a man, and it was actually a visual error that made him seem female. Distance or any other means of creating ambiguity leads us to differentiate between what we experience and what we know to be actually happening. If a differentiation has to take place between the crude sensory information and what we view as reality, than the truth or meaning within an object is not held within the sensory perception of it. Well, have you ever apprehended them with any other bodily sense? By them I mean them all, including tallness or health or strength in themselves, the real nature of any given thing what it actually is. Is it through the body that we get our truest view of them? Isn t it true that in any inquiry you are likely to attain more nearly to knowledge of your object in proportion to the care and accuracy with which you have prepared yourself to understand that object in itself? (2) Besides the processing of inaccurate information, the temptations and desires of the body are so strong and numerous that the philosopher never gets an opportunity to think. (3) The functions of the body that are being described as distractions and contradictions are in fact the fundamental processes of life.
