Michael Doyle, author of this article was one of the first IR theorists in modern era to analyze the
assumptions on liberal peace focusing mainly on Kant s idea. The John Hopkins University published
this article in 1986. In this paper I will summarize the article and give analysis on key points that drive

In contrast to Schumpeter s liberal pacifism, Machiavelli s liberal imperialism encompasses that the
best form of state for imperial expansion are free republics and they are not pacifistic (Doyle,
1986:1154). He goes on to say that Liberty results from the competition and necessity for compromise
required by the division of powers among senate, consuls, and tribunes and also from a powerful veto
(Doyle, 1986:1154). When the citizens know that their lives and properties are secure from seizure or
attacks, liberty tends to encourage an increase population and property, with strength and imperial
expansion being the basis of protection (Doyle, 1986:1151). Machiavelli says that expansion calls for
a free republic rather than an aristocratic one. He used Rome and Sparta/ Venice as examples
respectively. Imperial expansion is important in order to avoid other states with similar aims becoming
a threat and also other citizens can pose to be a threat when they are not allowed to satisfy their
ambition or exercise their political strengths. This is the basis of the traditional belief liberal
imperialism, which Machiavelli tries to explain. The third theoretical approach is Kant s liberal
internationalism. This theory embodies both the liberal pacifism and liberal imperialism and gives a
clear explanation on these two legacies and helps to give an understanding to international relations.

Sickle Cell Disorder
Sickle Cell is an inherited form of an abnormal red blood cell disorder. Sickle cell anemia is when
your body produces abnormal hemoglobin (hemoglobin S) which is found in red blood cells. The
abnormally shaped red blood cells are shaped in a crescent like form, this makes them sticky and rigid
and prone to getting trapped in small vessels, which blocks blood flow to important parts of the body,
this is how Sickle cell got its name. Sickle cell anemia occurs when a person inherits two abnormal
copies of the hemoglobin gene, which is found in chromosome 11 in both parents. Hemoglobin or
Haemoglobin is the iron containing oxygen transport metalloprotein in the red blood cell of all
vertebrates as well as the tissues of some invertebrates. There are seven different types of sickle cell.

Christianity Rediscovered By Vincent J. Donovan
Christianity Rediscovered
Chapter One:
In the first chapter of Christianity Rediscovered by Vincent J. Donovan he is introducing us to the idea
that missionaries now have a poor reputation due to their history. He says History has offered the
opportunity to deflect and distort the meaning of missionary work in every age . For a long time a
missionary was a person spreading the word of God and after years of doing so we have diminished
many different beliefs, practices, cultures and history. At the time it was thought to be the right thing,
to spread out and share the gospel to help people find meaning and acceptance. In today s age a
missionary is a lot of different things, in many cases it is more focused on the health and physical
wellbeing of the people. Many people still share the gospel through missionary work, but in other
cases it is more of a material aid. Donovan introduces the book as a voyage of discovery he wants us
to put our normal beliefs aside to see his perspective of living a missionaries life and struggling with
the fact of if you are helping or hurting.
Donovan speaks about the missionaries who came to East Africa after they were taken into slavery.
The missionaries thought it would be a good idea to come over and buy the people to save them from
harsh lives, so they bought as many as they could. Doing this they also taught them all of their
customs and where forced into Christianity instead of their beliefs ways and cultures. This struck off a

Research Paper On Io
Volcanology of Io Volcanos have played a colossal part in human history; mainly by destroying cities
and killing the people in them. While Earth is volcanically active there are other locations that surpass
it in activity. To find one of these places one must go through the Kuiper belt to the gas giant Jupiter.
Jupiter, while the biggest planet in our solar system comes second to Saturn for the most amount of
moons. There are sixty three total moons and fifty three of them have been officially named. Whether
it be size or composition, they all vary greatly from one another. The four biggest, known as the
Galilean moons, were named after the astronomer Galileo who discovered them over 400 years ago.
Their names are Io, Europa, Ganymede, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The different types of eruptions that come from the volcanoes that stretch across Io play a significant
role in its volcanology. There are three popular types of eruptions that occur on Io. These are: flow
dominated, explosion dominated, and Intra patera eruptions. Flow dominated eruptions produce
extensive compound lava flow fields... similar to compound inflationary flows commonly observed on
Hawaiian eruptions on Earth (Lopes 2015). These flows make up a major terrain type on Io. Many of
the major flows are produced by build ups of small breakouts of lava on top of older flows. They
differ from the other popular eruptions because they can last for years, have a low output of energy,
and can have flow fields larger than 300 kilometers. The opposite of this style of eruption is explosion
dominated eruptions. Where most of the energy of the eruption is directed into a short lived, vigorous
event that lasts days to weeks... can produce extensive pyroclastic deposits and lava flow fields, and
typically a large ( 200 km high) plume, thought to originate from the interaction of silicate magma
with sulfurous volatiles (Lopes 2015). These eruptions occur when magma deep within Io s molten
mantle reaches the surface and cause alterations in the near infrared brightness. They also have the
potential to cause colossal short lived changes around them. For example, in 1997 an eruption
produced a 400 kilometer wide deposit of silicate and sulfur dioxide. The powerful eruption in
recorded history was explosion dominated and observed by astronomers on February 22, 2001. The
most common of the three eruption types, Intra patera eruptions, occur with or without associated
plumes, and are thought to be lava lakes (Lopes 2015). Generally they have flat floors and steep walls.
Unlike features that are similar on Earth they are usually not located at the peak of a shield volcano.

Individuals with Disabilities Essay
The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle has been quoted as saying, You can judge a nation by the way
it treats its most vulnerable citizens. In fact, there are numerous quotes that convey similar sentiments.
Why is it then that during times of financial uncertainty services and programs necessary to promote
and maintain the health and welfare of individuals with developmental disabilities (DD) as well as
other vulnerable populations are among the first to face budget cuts or to be eliminated altogether?
Historically, society has relied heavily on institutions to care for individuals with disabilities. The idea
that individuals with disabilities could not and should not be cared for in their communities

Constitution, Bill of Rights, Federal, State, and Local Statutes.
From 1997 to 2008, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports a 17.1 % increase in the occurrence
of any DD among children between ages of 3 17. They also report, during 2006 2008, an estimated 1
in 6 children in the U.S. were reported to have some level of developmental disability (CDC, 2011). In
a 2011 briefing report issued by the United States Aging and Disabilities Services Administration
(ADSA), it was noted that the Washington State Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD)
provides some form of paid service to 63% of 38,000 Washington residents with a qualifying DD. The
remaining 37% of qualifying DD residents continue to be clients, but receive no paid services because
they have been discontinued due to budget cuts. The report also predicts that over the next decade
Washington State residents with a DD will increase to approximately 51, 000 (ADSA, 2011).
Upon closer examination, the move to institutionalization appears to be a form of secondary
prevention that is woven into an even more pressing social problem. However archaic the act of
institutionalizing a person due to their developmental

From the beginning, it s was clear that this man Neddy Merrill wasn t dealing with a full deck upstairs

predisposition to stare off into space for times on end. He would speak about his job, the wife, and his

were willing to speak about; of course Ned give the impression the household is find when his so call

have is Neddy Merrill a low key Alcoholic going through an extended Mid Life Crisis. Neddy seems
to be living the Good life, but as the story develops you see that this is not the case. Looks to me that
his neighbors seem to dislike him, his mistress has a headache and is not in the mood at all, and he
seems to be forgetting many things. He also doesn t notice the change in time. This really confused me
also. I think that maybe he either has a horrible memory

Character Abuse In Hamlet
Treat others how you want to be treated , the golden rule. Basic yet powerful morality that spawns the
best humanity. Humans are capable of great love, but capable of great evil. In Hamlet, Claudius,
becomes king because of Old Hamlet s sudden death. Claudius marries Gertrude following the king s
death. Hamlet discovers Claudius killed his father. Hamlet is determined to get revenge for his father s
murder. Claudius notices Hamlet acting strangely lately and arranges for Hamlet to be spied on.
Hamlet realizes and acts insane to make others disregard him. Hamlet wins the duel against Laertes,
Claudius poisons Hamlet s cup, but Gertrude drinks from it instead. Laertes strikes Hamlet with a
poisoned blade. Then Hamlet strikes Laertes with the poisoned blade causing Laertes s death.
Claudius is accused of treason and attempts to escape, Hamlet kills him, following that Hamlet also
dies due to poisoning. In William Shakespeare s Hamlet, family members are psychologically
corrupted as their egotistical and spiteful actions desensitize them to committing acts of treason
against family, which ultimately cause death of their kin. The selfishness, betrayal, and sabotage seen
in the play will lead to the character s inevitable downfall. Firstly, self centered characters manipulate
and benefit from the exploitation of family members. To start, Old Hamlet uses Hamlet to get revenge
on Claudius. Old Hamlet s ghost appears months following the King s death

Key Features Of Image Enhancement
A. Image enhancement Image enhancement is the process of adjusting digital images so that the
results are more suitable for display or further image analysis. For example, you can remove noise,
sharpen, or brighten an image, making it easier to identify key features. Image enhancement mainly
includes some process: A.1 Convert a Colored Image into Gray Image Every digital image mainly
comprises of three components or it is made up of three colors that is RGB (Red Green and Blue) and
each image is represented in a 3 dimensional which is very difficult to analysis and process. Therefore
to overcome some difficulty initially each image is first converted into a gray image which is made up
of white and black components of varying intensity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So on, it moves until the end of a column and calculate the total sum of differences between adjacent
pixels. At the end, an array containing the column wise sum is created. The same process is carried out
to find the vertical array. In this case, rows are processed instead of columns. A.4 Filtering out
Unwanted Regions in an Image Once the arrays are passed through a low pass digital filter, a filter is
applied so that to remove undesirable areas from an image which includes the horizontal and vertical
components of array with low values. Generally low value indicates the plain areas with characters it
is due to the fact that intensity of each neighboring pixel of plain areas contains a similar intensity or
pixel values such that during horizontal and vertical processing the difference between them is
negligible but in case of edges and specially numeric characters the difference between adjacent pixel
is high due to variation of intensity, which results into a high array value for such part of an image.
Therefore, the required area of region of interest with probable number has a high values while areas
with small value are undesirable and such regions are filtered out by applying a certain threshold. In
this algorithm, the threshold is equal to the average value of an array. Both row and column vectors
are passed through a filter with this threshold, so that the final output

The Cockatoucan And Coming Of-Age Matence
[If] you make me the Princess s governess, I ll see what I can do... (177) the little girl asks the
hopeless King. In The Cockatoucan, or Great Aunt Willoughby by E. Nesbit, compiled in Neil Gaiman
s Unnatural Creatures, the narrator draws attention to gender and age inequality. Overcoming various
obstacles, the protagonist demonstrates her maturity throughout the journey, where she chooses to
make decisions for the sake of the kingdom of Green Land. Saving the kingdom from the unnatural
creature, the girl s actions and maturity serve as a platform in addressing today s public affairs. In the
light of these social issues, I will argue that Nesbit imposes on the themes of Voyage and Return and

Although Matilda is portrayed as a female child heroine, Colin Manlove implies that Nesbit suggests
that the capabilities of female children are underestimated in his journal article entitled Fantasy as
Witty Conceit: E. Nesbit. In this journal article, Manlove critiques that there are two sides of Nesbit
the realist and the supernaturalist ...where magic is given a colloquial and comic face, and is brought
into contact with very human children (126). This implies that the direct audience are those oppressed
by society s double standards, especially female children, and the indirect audience are those who
ridicule the capabilities of the oppressed. The story draws attention to social issues ( realist ) by
assimilating fantasy fiction ( supernaturalist ). In this case, both children and women are belittled due
to their age and gender, respectively. Since gender bias is an issue, professors, who published the
journal article Gender Differences in Children s Hero Attributions: Personal Hero Choices and
Evaluations of Typical Male and Female Heroes, observe that boys were expected to endorse heroes
for their ability to act on the world (instrumental attributes) and for their wealth or fame (prestige)
more than girls (Holub, et al. 569). This alludes that the gender gap does not only apply to adults, but
also children. Through their

12 Angry Men Essay
12 Angry Men is a film about the dispute among the members of a jury on whether they should
convict a teenager of allegedly killing his own father. The jury argues over and over, creating a very
tense environment; whilst continuously switching positions on the issue. At the end of the movie, the
jury agrees that the boy is not guilty, due to various doubts. However, only one person remained
believing he is guilty all throughout the case. At the end of the movie we find out why this person had
such a strong belief that the boy was guilty, it was because the person had a bad relationship with his
own son and that influenced his beliefs on the case. For this reason, I liked the movie very much. I
liked that the movie started with the jury believing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This scene was one of the first strong pieces of evidence in the boy s side, it was the scene about the
uniqueness of the knife. I remember this scene clearly because of the character s surprise of bringing a
knife that looked exactly like the one used in the murder, and the rest of the jury s dazzled reaction. In
this scene a character (member of the jury) asks to see the knife used in the murder, during a
discussion, in which the other members of the jury claimed that the boy was guilty because the a knife
the boy owned look exactly like the knife in the murder. This agreement was specially relevant to the
case because the knife had very unique designs and there were claims form knife sellers supporting
the unlikeness of there being two knives of the same appearance. However, the character (Henry
Fonda) in this scene does something pretty clever with this information beforehand. As during this
discussion he pulls out an exact looking knife to that one used in the murder and proceeds to stab it in
the table, in an assured manner. This scene is very interesting because of the characters preparedness
for proving his point, since he had bought that knife in the same area that the murder happened.
Additionally, what is more impressive were the emotions of the characters, since most were shocked
that he found that knife while others were outraged; but what s more intense is the character with the
knife confidence in which he drove that knife into the

The Spiritual Society That Is Bound By God
The Beach The spiritual society that is bound by God is assured in knowledge as a centered
community that it occupies an extant purgatory between the natural and the supernatural and the laws
of modernity and eternity. This paradox is embraced by experiencing it and defining it within the
society. For the higher spiritual realms, animism and religious provisions forge together to create a
new weapon to fight against aberrations while refining a reality it no longer perceives as spiritually
centered. The artistic interpretation of such a life free from reality, a life devoid of egocentric and self
absorbed thoughts towards a modern life, may be able to rebuild a new foundation and language for
the spiritual society; for even if the new philosophies that are fabricated are fleeting issues, the artist
still creates a reality where this is perceived and understood. As new theories percolate, the more it
needs the aesthetic rendering, which goal is to reach the aloof in hopes of arranging modernity into a
new meaningful way. The holistic perception of the artistic construct, in which it places emphasis
while consolidating, begins to create a language for the unspoken and give meaning to the ideas
hidden within it. What these ideas mean must still be broached through interpretation and is largely
contingent on the level of reality manifested by the artist. While in the higher spiritual realms the artist
asserts a reality that more or less understands itself, in the lower spiritual

The Rebirth Of A Forgotten Virtue By Daniel Akst

characterization and slant of the utilization of thrift. Throughout the article, Akst gives a few
perspectives and cases of certain powerful individuals and their perspectives. Alongside the different
perspectives of the individuals, there are numerous quotes from well respected people. When Akst
uncovers his actual position on thrift towards the closure of his factious article, he trusts that thrift
makes solidness. The targeted group that Akst aims for is the general population of money spenders in
America. His intention of composing this article is to advise individuals about thrift and that by
thrifting you make budgetary opportunity. The rhetorical analysis strategies that will be exemplified
are pathos, as well as logos. Daniel Akst is successful in his contention that thrift makes opportunity
with illustrations of hurried speculations, quotes of persuasive individuals and measurable proof. The
strategy used by Akst as a part of his factious article is pathos, which is used to helped persuade his
audience through his use of logical reasoning. The use of pathos throughout the article shows faith in
how Americans burns through cash and how they ought to burn through cash. To the extent that thrift
produces wealth, it breeds envy (511). Akst is claiming that riches breeds or creates envy in everybody

Psalm 23 The Holy Bible, NIV, (1996) explains that David authored Psalm 23 and that his writing
reveals the need for us to turn to God as our shepherd for all of our needs. He begins the Psalm with
The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me
beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his
name (Psalm 23: 1 3). Immediately, two important corresponding elements appear, which include
green meadows and peaceful streams . David is explaining the difference between a sinful life and one
that allows the lord to guide it. Life has an abundance of difficulty, however if we obey and allow God

Racial Differences In Criminal Justice System Essay

significantly fairer. Likewise, in research center tests, white trial judges, hold implicit bias against
black individuals (Brown, 2016). In any case, literature has shown that judges could defeat those
biases with actual effort.
Race differences in criminal involvement and racial patterns in the criminal justice system have been
important topics since the beginning of American criminology (Alessandro, 2016). In late decades, a

Despite changes in leadership and growing attention to issues of racial and ethnic disparity in recent

Example Of Cognitive Dissonance
Cognitive dissonance is the sense of mental disorganization or imbalance that may prompt a person to
change when new information conflicts with previously organized thought patterns. The text states,
The incompatibly between your behavior and your new knowledge will make you feel uncomfortable
(381).
I have experienced cognitive dissonance when preparing for an exam. For instance, I will not study or
not study as well as I should for a test. Then when I receive my test back or my score is posted, I
realize that I really should have studied a lot harder. Then for the next exam I would try to study
earlier and harder so I could retain the information so I would perform well on the test. Going into the
class I know that I have a test, but I still do not study for it. I know that by not studying it will hurt my
grade, but I do it anyways, then once I see my grade I realize that I cannot do that again. Otherwise,
my grade would plummet and my GPA could be affected as well.
Another example is when you try to get through a class just by memorizing the information, and not
being able to retain any of it. I have gone through several classes where I just hurry and memorize as
many facts and examples as I can so I will get through the class and still earn a good grade. I end up
not being able to remember such information after the semester is over. An example of this would be
my Chemistry class. I am an Early Childhood Education major, and I do not need to know Chemistry

The civilization of Ancient Egypt was one of the earliest in world history. It is usually held to have

Symptoms And Treatment Of Cardiac Surgery
When a patient is seen for his or her routine dental examination, these are some of the major points
involved. First: The patient is asked to fill out a recent medical questionnaire. In most cases this is a
verbal confirmation, where the patient is asked about recent health concerns, changes or new
medications. The oral area cannot be separated from the general health of a patient. A recent heart
problem should be addressed, as there could be dental / general health ramifications. For example,
cardiac surgery may involve premedication with antibiotics, as a thorough dental cleaning could cause
oral bacteria to enter the circulatory system. This can cause potentially serious problems in areas
where recent scar tissue has formed. As well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She / he can often detect cavities through the manual act of scaling. When the dentist comes for the

This team work helps a patient achieve the greatest of care. The dentist will physically touch each
tooth with a sharp instrument called an explorer This can show if an area of concern is in fact decay or
just a stain. An interesting addition to the dental exam is a laser instrument that can detect decay. One
model is a Diagnodent. It emits a low power laser beam which is directed, from close distance, to the
tooth surface. Some of the light reflects back and is read by the instrument. The nature of the reflected
light will signify a possible decay. This has been an excellent way of detecting decay before it gets
larger.
The dentist will also do, what is termed,a soft tissue exam. The tongue, cheeks, palate, upper throat,
and gum tissues are examined for any problems. Of special concern are smokers, who do have a
tendency to have more intra oral cancers. As well the neck from the collar bone to the chin is
examined for any hard lesions. The dentist is looking for cysts, signs of infection and cancers.
The gums are given a thorough exam both visually and with an instrument called a probe, which is
demarcated in millimeters. A normal gum pocket, the area around the teeth, is 3 mm. In gum disease
some pockets can range to 10 mm. In such severe cases the patient is

Montana 1948 by Larry Watson Essay
In Montana 1948, written by Larry Watson, the events that took place irrevocably changed David
Hayden s life in several ways, both good and bad. The novel Montana 1948, is written from the point
of view of
David, the son of the Mercer County s sheriff, Wesley Hayden and features many events which are
indelible from his memory.
The death of Little Marie Soldier, David s housekeeper, was the first event, which would ultimately
change David s life. After her death,
David experiences great discomfort in his own home, as he believed that there was death in the house
and that every door seemed to require a bit more effort to open and close. There always seemed to be a

This eventually changed David so that he no longer felt that he didn t fit his ideal of what he should
be.
David s knowledge of his Uncle Frank s crimes, especially the murder of Little Marie Soldier, also
permanently changed his life, as after that he could no loner think about Frank in the same way.
Originally,
David expressed great admiration for his uncle, the war hero, saying that compared to his father, who
was impressive, was everything that his father was and more. Conversely, after the revelation of Frank
s crimes, David could no longer continue thinking of Uncle Frank the way he always had, saying that
the charming, affable Uncle Frank was gone for good.
While this change was dramatic, the greatest change that irretrievably changed David s life was the
death of his once beloved Uncle Frank.
The effect of his death affected the entire Hayden family, producing a division between David, his
mother Gail and his father Wesley, and his
Grandparents Enid and Julian and his Aunt Gloria. This division affected David to such a great extent
that he cried as he would never see his horse, Nutty, again . The division in his family is evident when,
at Frank s funeral, each faction stood on opposite sides of the grave and not one of them would dream
of leaping across it. This remark made by David shows that there was a clear dissection between
himself and his parents, and his

Could Schizophrenia be the Answer to the
Mysterious Vampire Legend?
The vampire legend and many behaviors and experiences of schizophrenics seem to share many
common traits. The traits that are most recognizable are fears of being enclosed, periods of
semistarvation or complete starvation, which can be associated with periodic gorging, reversal of the
day night cycle, and a preoccupation with or dread of mirrors (Kayton 304). Though the term
schizophrenia or demence precoce was only introduced in 1852 (Boyle 43), behaviors of people
affected by this illness have been documented much earlier.
The concept of a dead person returning in his living physical form and feeding on the living is
considered a vampire. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here is where an important part of the legend draws reference. According to Kayton, the vampire
(young suicide) was known to either devour or steal the hearts of his victims. When the heart was
stolen, it was placed over a fire to create an intense unfulfilled love in the bosom of the person it was
taken from (307). In Dracula we sort of get that sense the three vampire women wanted this from
Jonathan. Because when the Count told them that they could not have him, one of them boldly told
him: You yourself never loved (55). Also, according to schizophrenic suicide history the family
members who were often attacked were mainly members who showed their guilt over the oral
deprivation onto the fantasized vampire (patient) with a feared oral attack (Kayton 311). That would
be the logic of why the victims of the vampire are usually family members or persons they love; as we
witness this with Lucy as she tried to kiss Arthur a two different occasions when she became a
vampire. This theory also suggests that the parent s role is very important and their actions with the
child of either showing affection or rejection when the child attempts to become close to them
(McMahon 212).
Besides the removal of the heart, unmistakably, the most important part of the legend is that the
vampire attacks his victims by sucking out their blood. There are claims that the attack of the vampire
shows consistency with some of the unconscious fantasies of schizophrenic

Latin America Metaphors
Solitude is more than a state of being alone; it is recognizing the fact that the individuals whom one
introduces to their environment will never learn to accept their differences. It is being aware that
positive things will never be satisfiable enough to gratify those around you. Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a
Colombian author, illustrated the ideal picture of solitude in Latin America though his words he
expressed in his Nobel Prize speech. Gabriel Marquez lived his childhood in a small isolated town in
Columbia alongside his grandparents. Marquez was rudely denied a VISA to the United States due to
his thoughts about the U.S military. However, Marquez was still able to publish and sell millions of
copies of his novel 100 Years of Solitude which later became the second most read book in Latin
America, following the Bible. In Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Nobel Prize speech, The Solitude of Latin
America, he uses the term solitude as a metaphor for Latin America through negative stereotypes from
other countries and Latin America s geographic isolation.
Initially, Latin America endures solitude as a result from the negative stereotypes they face from other
countries based on inferred connotations from past actions. The chief faction that interrogates Latin
America for their differences are the Europeans leaders who Have thought so, with the childishness of
old timers who have forgotten the fruitful excess of their youth (Marquez 3). Latin America has been

Inequalities In European Culture
Inequality has been an issue from the dawn of time. All throughout history we can see prime examples
of this. World war two and the german invasion, The Spanish and the Incas, and the most well known
example, today. But few people have ever asked why it s always been this way. Europe had geography
on it s side, giving them agricultural advantages, helping them to domesticate animals (and in turn,
building resistance to disease) leading to a surplus of food for specialists to invent and experiment.
Finally, that led to the decimation of other cultures, and the appropriation of their resources.

Steel was the turning point for Europe, setting their destiny in stone, and securing their chance at
world domination. Europe had this beautiful collection of resources. Their most notable was their

Focusing on the Spanish who, thanks to their latitude, could create roaring hot fires and with a supply
of iron, their specialists could create steel. But looking at the Incas, they had the time and climate,
however, they were lacking in iron. Thus, steel was not created in the Incan empire. So with steel, the
Spanish soared ahead, creating tools, weapons, vessels for travel overseas, and the plow, which
allowed for even more time and in turn, more specialists. Because the Inca didn t have steel, they had
to rely on stone tools and their single domesticated animal, the llama. Without steel, we wouldn t be

such as providing information that leads to the capture of a particular criminal, bounties are tailored to

The FCA enforces this statute, in part, by allowing a private person, typically an employee or other
agent of the violator with particular knowledge of a violation, to bring suit on behalf of the
government, otherwise known as a qui tam action. This qui tam plaintiff, referred to as a relator, is
entitled to a bounty between 15% and 25% of the settlement amount in the situation where the
government proceeds with the action brought by the relator. In the case where the government doesn t
proceed with the action, the relator is entitled to between 25% and 30% of the settlement amount.
Traditionally there was a bar that limited a relator from bringing a qui tam action under the FCA and
thus being qualified to receive any whistleblower bounty resulting from the settlement. The bar was
basically two fold. The allegations or transactions underlying the action cannot have been publicly
disclosed, unless the relator was the original source of the information. Prior to amendment in 2010,
this bar required the court to dismiss the action if the allegations had been public disclosed or the
relator was not the original source of the information, which resulted in this becoming the primary
defense in FCA actions. However, with amendment in 2010, the power to dismiss was effectively
shifted from the court to the government with the addition of the language unless opposed by the
Government .

John Barry The Great Influenza Rhetorical Analysis
John M. Barry s ///The Great Influenza///, about the 1918 flu epidemic, explains how as well as why
scientists commit to their calling. By the end of the excerpt, Barry, through his words, bases the nature
of scientific research on uncertainty, which requires diligence, risk, and exploration out of exceptional
scientists. Using rhetorical strategies, Barry characterizes scientific research as mysterious and
dangerous, a research done by scientists who are pioneers, in a figurative sense.
Throughout the first few paragraphs, Barry introduces the idea of diligence, which is the scientists
abilities to be careful and persistent in work. In the first few lines of the passage, the author features
repetition, as well as a slight parallel structure; in lines 1 3, when the author is repeating and

Caravaggio s Judith And Holofernes And Artemisia Gentileschi
The paintings Caravaggio s Judith and Holofernes and Artemisia Gentileschi s Judith Decapitating
Holofernes (c.1620) were pieces that were painted during the Baroque art period. They are both based
on the biblical story about Judith beheading Holofernes.
To begin with, the painting by Caravaggio shows Judith recoiling from the gruesome task she is
performing. This is emphasized by how delicate she seems to be handling Holofernes. A woman
stands next to her in the painting simply staring in astonishment. However, in the painting by
Gentileschi, Judith is clearly depicted as a very strong women working together with another women

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast to Schumpeter s liberal pacifism, Machiavelli s liberal imperialism encompasses that the best form of state for imperial expansion are free republics and they are not pacifistic (Doyle, 1986:1154). He goes on to say that Liberty results from the competition and necessity for compromise required by the division of powers among senate, consuls, and tribunes and also from a powerful veto (Doyle, 1986:1154). When the citizens know that their lives and properties are secure from seizure or attacks, liberty tends to encourage an increase population and property, with strength and imperial expansion being the basis of protection (Doyle, 1986:1151). Machiavelli says that expansion calls for a free republic rather than an aristocratic one. He used Rome and Sparta/ Venice as examples respectively. Imperial expansion is important in order to avoid other states with similar aims becoming a threat and also other citizens can pose to be a threat when they are not allowed to satisfy their ambition or exercise their political strengths. This is the basis of the traditional belief liberal imperialism, which Machiavelli tries to explain. The third theoretical approach is Kant s liberal internationalism. This theory embodies both the liberal pacifism and liberal imperialism and gives a clear explanation on these two legacies and helps to give an understanding to international relations. ... • 4. Christianity Rediscovered By Vincent J. Donovan Christianity Rediscovered Chapter One: In the first chapter of Christianity Rediscovered by Vincent J. Donovan he is introducing us to the idea that missionaries now have a poor reputation due to their history. He says History has offered the opportunity to deflect and distort the meaning of missionary work in every age . For a long time a missionary was a person spreading the word of God and after years of doing so we have diminished many different beliefs, practices, cultures and history. At the time it was thought to be the right thing, to spread out and share the gospel to help people find meaning and acceptance. In today s age a missionary is a lot of different things, in many cases it is more focused on the health and physical wellbeing of the people. Many people still share the gospel through missionary work, but in other cases it is more of a material aid. These flows make up a major terrain type on Io. Many of the major flows are produced by build ups of small breakouts of lava on top of older flows. They differ from the other popular eruptions because they can last for years, have a low output of energy, and can have flow fields larger than 300 kilometers. The opposite of this style of eruption is explosion dominated eruptions. These eruptions occur when magma deep within Io s molten mantle reaches the surface and cause alterations in the near infrared brightness. They also have the potential to cause colossal short lived changes around them. For example, in 1997 an eruption produced a 400 kilometer wide deposit of silicate and sulfur dioxide. The powerful eruption in recorded history was explosion dominated and observed by astronomers on February 22, 2001. The most common of the three eruption types, Intra patera eruptions, occur with or without associated plumes, and are thought to be lava lakes (Lopes 2015). A.4 Filtering out Unwanted Regions in an Image Once the arrays are passed through a low pass digital filter, a filter is applied so that to remove undesirable areas from an image which includes the horizontal and vertical components of array with low values. Generally low value indicates the plain areas with characters it is due to the fact that intensity of each neighboring pixel of plain areas contains a similar intensity or pixel values such that during horizontal and vertical processing the difference between them is negligible but in case of edges and specially numeric characters the difference between adjacent pixel is high due to variation of intensity, which results into a high array value for such part of an image. Therefore, the required area of region of interest with probable number has a high values while areas with small value are undesirable and such regions are filtered out by applying a certain threshold. In this scene a character (member of the jury) asks to see the knife used in the murder, during a discussion, in which the other members of the jury claimed that the boy was guilty because the a knife the boy owned look exactly like the knife in the murder. This agreement was specially relevant to the case because the knife had very unique designs and there were claims form knife sellers supporting the unlikeness of there being two knives of the same appearance. However, the character (Henry Fonda) in this scene does something pretty clever with this information beforehand. As during this discussion he pulls out an exact looking knife to that one used in the murder and proceeds to stab it in the table, in an assured manner. This scene is very interesting because of the characters preparedness for proving his point, since he had bought that knife in the same area that the murder happened. The Spiritual Society That Is Bound By God The Beach The spiritual society that is bound by God is assured in knowledge as a centered community that it occupies an extant purgatory between the natural and the supernatural and the laws of modernity and eternity. This paradox is embraced by experiencing it and defining it within the society. For the higher spiritual realms, animism and religious provisions forge together to create a new weapon to fight against aberrations while refining a reality it no longer perceives as spiritually centered. The artistic interpretation of such a life free from reality, a life devoid of egocentric and self absorbed thoughts towards a modern life, may be able to rebuild a new foundation and language for the spiritual society; for even if the new philosophies that are fabricated are fleeting issues, the artist still creates a reality where this is perceived and understood. As new theories percolate, the more it needs the aesthetic rendering, which goal is to reach the aloof in hopes of arranging modernity into a new meaningful way. The holistic perception of the artistic construct, in which it places emphasis while consolidating, begins to create a language for the unspoken and give meaning to the ideas hidden within it. What these ideas mean must still be broached through interpretation and is largely contingent on the level of reality manifested by the artist. An interesting addition to the dental exam is a laser instrument that can detect decay. One model is a Diagnodent. It emits a low power laser beam which is directed, from close distance, to the tooth surface. Some of the light reflects back and is read by the instrument. The nature of the reflected light will signify a possible decay. This has been an excellent way of detecting decay before it gets larger. The dentist will also do, what is termed,a soft tissue exam. The tongue, cheeks, palate, upper throat, and gum tissues are examined for any problems. Of special concern are smokers, who do have a tendency to have more intra oral cancers. As well the neck from the collar bone to the chin is examined for any hard lesions. The dentist is looking for cysts, signs of infection and cancers. The gums are given a thorough exam both visually and with an instrument called a probe, which is demarcated in millimeters. A normal gum pocket, the area around the teeth, is 3 mm. In gum disease some pockets can range to 10 mm. In such severe cases the patient is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cancer Practitioner Personal Statement For many years now, Scientists have struggled to help medical practitioners treat their patients according to their symptoms and provided customized healthcare on a personal basis. However, how personal can medicine get? In 2003, researchers obtained a complete human genome from which the sequence and map of all genes in the human body can be used as a reference. With this development we are a step closer to treating cancer and other diseases. Most cancer treatments engage in trial and error basis of treatment which puts so much of pain, and risk on the patient. I worked on a similar problem in my role as a research assistant in a project funded by the NIH XYZ Clinical Translational Research Center. The novel Montana 1948, is written from the point of view of David, the son of the Mercer County s sheriff, Wesley Hayden and features many events which are indelible from his memory. The death of Little Marie Soldier, David s housekeeper, was the first event, which would ultimately change David s life. David s knowledge of his Uncle Frank s crimes, especially the murder of Little Marie Soldier, also permanently changed his life, as after that he could no loner think about Frank in the same way. Originally, David expressed great admiration for his uncle, the war hero, saying that compared to his father, who was impressive, was everything that his father was and more. Conversely, after the revelation of Frank s crimes, David could no longer continue thinking of Uncle Frank the way he always had, saying that the charming, affable Uncle Frank was gone for good. While this change was dramatic, the greatest change that irretrievably changed David s life was the death of his once beloved Uncle Frank. The effect of his death affected the entire Hayden family, producing a division between David, his mother Gail and his father Wesley, and his Grandparents Enid and Julian and his Aunt Gloria. This division affected David to such a great extent that he cried as he would never see his horse, Nutty, again . The vampire legend and many behaviors and experiences of schizophrenics seem to share many common traits. The traits that are most recognizable are fears of being enclosed, periods of semistarvation or complete starvation, which can be associated with periodic gorging, reversal of the day night cycle, and a preoccupation with or dread of mirrors (Kayton 304). Though the term schizophrenia or demence precoce was only introduced in 1852 (Boyle 43), behaviors of people affected by this illness have been documented much earlier. Here is where an important part of the legend draws reference. According to Kayton, the vampire (young suicide) was known to either devour or steal the hearts of his victims. When the heart was stolen, it was placed over a fire to create an intense unfulfilled love in the bosom of the person it was taken from (307). In Dracula we sort of get that sense the three vampire women wanted this from Jonathan. Because when the Count told them that they could not have him, one of them boldly told him: You yourself never loved (55). Also, according to schizophrenic suicide history the family members who were often attacked were mainly members who showed their guilt over the oral deprivation onto the fantasized vampire (patient) with a feared oral attack (Kayton 311). That would be the logic of why the victims of the vampire are usually family members or persons they love; as we witness this with Lucy as she tried to kiss Arthur a two different occasions when she became a vampire. This theory also suggests that the parent s role is very important and their actions with the child of either showing affection or rejection when the child attempts to become close to them (McMahon 212). Initially, Latin America endures solitude as a result from the negative stereotypes they face from other countries based on inferred connotations from past actions. World war two and the german invasion, The Spanish and the Incas, and the most well known example, today. But few people have ever asked why it s always been this way. Europe had geography on it s side, giving them agricultural advantages, helping them to domesticate animals (and in turn, building resistance to disease) leading to a surplus of food for specialists to invent and experiment. But looking at the Incas, they had the time and climate, however, they were lacking in iron. Thus, steel was not created in the Incan empire. So with steel, the Spanish soared ahead, creating tools, weapons, vessels for travel overseas, and the plow, which allowed for even more time and in turn, more specialists. In the case where the government doesn t proceed with the action, the relator is entitled to between 25% and 30% of the settlement amount. Traditionally there was a bar that limited a relator from bringing a qui tam action under the FCA and thus being qualified to receive any whistleblower bounty resulting from the settlement. The bar was basically two fold. The allegations or transactions underlying the action cannot have been publicly disclosed, unless the relator was the original source of the information. Prior to amendment in 2010, this bar required the court to dismiss the action if the allegations had been public disclosed or the relator was not the original source of the information, which resulted in this becoming the primary defense in FCA actions.
