Antibiotics Vs Antibiotic Free Meat
I understand your confusion on whether or not to purchase antibiotic free meat because many people
are uneducated on genetically modified foods and their impact on our health. With that being said,
before you decide if antibiotic free meat is best for your family you have to understand what
antibiotics are, and the difference between meat that is treated with antibiotics versus antibiotic free
meat.
Antibiotics are commonly known as medicines that are used to prevent or kill bacteria and have been
used for decades to treat humans. In humans, antibiotics are seen as increasing the quality of health
care and extending the lifespan of people by essentially preventing death from infectious diseases.
Like you, many people are unaware that about 80% of the antibiotics sold in the United States are
actually used in agriculture (insert reference). More specifically, antibiotics are used in meat ... Show

Salmonella is a bacteria that develops in the intestine track which is commonly caused from eating
contaminated meat and poultry. Some recent outbreaks of salmonella both occurred in 2011. In the
united states there was a deadly salmonella outbreak in ground turkey. And in the UK there was an
outbreak in ground beef which caused several infections. The salmonella strain in both of these
instances is resistant to four types of bacteria which made it difficult to cure. MRSA, Methicillin
Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, is a highly contagious staph infection that is the result of antibiotic
resistant bacteria. This infection causes skin abscesses or internal abscesses. In a study in the Midwest
United States livestock workers were found to have carried MRSA, which is alarming because this
was not a infection that was believed to occur in livestock. (insert reference). Infectous outbreaks like
these show the dangers that antibiotic overuse

The Ancient Inventions Of The Future
The Ancient inventions of the future Socrates was one of the greatest philosophers of the ancient
world. His teachings inspired young philosophers to go and explore the world. In addition, His
Knowledge even influenced boundless minds like Plato, who help make gigantic pushes in geometry.
Or Aristotle, who mad giant leaps in astronomy (also made a theory that the earth was round in about
384 B. C.). therefore, a new era of philosophy was inaugurated and the course of western civilization
was decisively shaped. Modern mathematics, Medicine, and cartography was all modernized during
this age of philosophy. Without the Greeks, present ideals and the way we live our life would not be
the same. So it is important that we know what the Greeks invented and their power over our
civilization.
First of all, the use the same form of democracy that we use in America. They decided that a dictator
would have too much control and power. So they got a cabinet of over 500 people for democratic
voting. They voted on taxes all the way up to executions. It worked a lot like our jury system, with
people randomly chosen to serve. As it was said by Scott J. Cooper; Demokratia, Greek for power of
the people, was born in Athens in the 7th century BC. As the city state s oligarchy exploited citizens
and created economic, political and social problems, Athenians were inspired by the successful, semi
democratic model Sparta had adopted. They turned to lawmaker Solon, who tried to help the

Argumentative Speech About Hawaiians
How are you doing? I m doing okay. I m sorry for not sending you a letter sooner, but the days have
been super busy lately. I have gotten ill on the journey to Hawaii, but luckily the illness went away
shortly after we arrived. My body figure has noticeably gotten skinnier from my usual buff posture
because of famine during the voyage. I also haven t been able to trim my hair, so now it is very long
and untamable. He seems to be quite fond of us and our mission. I am currently sheltered in a hotel
room provided by the king himself, Liholiho. Most of the Hawaiians have taken a liking to our way of
life, too. They are quite peculiar. Can you believe that the Hawaiians wear loincloths and mini dresses
on the daily? I find that to be very obnoxious and offensive. I thought that it was blatant knowledge to
not show skin. Some Hawaiians, however, have tried to protest against us. Maybe they re just biased.
We ll convert them soon enough. Regardless, I just wanted to inform you that so far, our mission to
convert the Hawaiians has been going quite well. Their economy is a lot different from the economy
that we have back in England. First of all, the Hawaiians don t have many schools. Our teachers and
some of the missionaries are working with the Hawaiians to try and get schools created. Second of all,
the Hawaiians have a kapu system, which is pretty similar to our law system, but theirs is a lot more
strict. Isn t it ridiculous how one of their kapu states that men and women

The Influence Of The Emancipation Proclamation
The African Americans turned the tide of the war , said Abraham Lincoln. If the African Americans
did not join the Union, the South would of won. The Announcement of the Emancipation
Proclamation was a good war strategy due to the amount of soldiers they gained. It enabled the
African Americans to join the Union army and gave them tremendous amounts of help in numbers.
The Emancipation Proclamation was a document that set slaves free except in the border states of
Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, and Delaware. The Emancipation Proclamation came into play after
the Union s victory at the Battle of Antietam, which was the bloodiest day. The purpose was to free the
slaves in order for them to join the Union Army. Lincoln used this as a war strategy

Neil Armstrong As A Hero
This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind. (Neil Armstrong). In the 1960s, the race
began between America and the Soviet Union to see who could be the first to launch humans to the
moon. Several years later, America achieved a goal that was believed unlikely and almost impossible a
few years earlier. During the 1960 s Neil Armstrong changed the world and became an American hero.
Neil Armstrong had a long journey before he got to take those first steps on the moon. As a child, he
moved with his family to several Ohio communities before they settled in Wapakoneta when Neil was
13 years old ( Armstrong, Neil Alden ). Neil Armstrong s family moved a lot around Ohio until they
finally found a place to settle. Neil was only 13 years old. Moving could have made it hard for
Armstrong to make friends and he could have had a hard time dealing with school. Also, according to
www.notablebiographies.com, Neil Armstrong was the oldest of three children. He had a sister named
June and a brother named Dean. His parent s names were Stephen and Viola Armstrong. His sister
June, was four years younger than him. Later on, In 1947, Armstrong entered Purdue University. He
began studies in aeronautical engineering. But in 1949, the United States Navy called him to active
duty. Armstrong became a Navy pilot and was sent to Korea in 1950, near the start of the Korean
War.In 1952, Armstrong returned to Purdue. He earned a bachelor s degree in aeronautical engineering
there in 1955. Also in 1970, he earned a master s degree in aerospace engineering at the University of
Southern California ( Armstrong, Neil Alden ). Before Neil Armstrong finished school, he was in the
Navy, but cared enough about his education to continue it 2 years later. He even returned to school 15
years later. This lead to him getting a master s degree and a bachelor s degree. The beginning of
Armstrong s life led to many different accomplishments for his time. Neil Armstrong had many life
accomplishments other than walking on the moon.To begin, Neil Armstrong is known for being the
first man to walk on the moon, making American history. Worldbookonline.com states that Armstrong,

Intellect Argument
The intellect argument also comes into play when critics talk about Eve and her dreams, particularly
the difference in which Adam and Eve receive information after the fall. Adam goes on his journey
with Michael while Eve sleeps. Many see this as supporting the gender hierarchy because Adam s
journey is considered a high form of prophecy because an angel is involved whereas dreams are often
considered a low form (McGrath79). Also, there is the fact that dreams used in previous points of the
poem were Satanic and therefore already given a negative connotation. The difference in which the
two are treated in terms of information is concerning, especially because the difference in which they
are treated is so wide, one traveling with an angel

The Battle Of Tippecanoe By William Henry Harrison
The Battle of Tippecanoe was one of the major steps towards the War of 1812. It took place on
November 8, 1811, in a clearing near Prophet s Town. It was also perhaps one of the most
controversial battles in the War of 1812. Although a peace treaty had been made one day prior before
the Battle of Tippecanoe, the Native Americans attacked, which caused the American soldiers to fight
back, who were led by General William Henry Harrison. The Native Americans had been led by
Tecumseh, a Shawnee Indian Chief. The Battle of Tippecanoe was a controversial battle which the
Natives Americans started, and ultimately, lost.
Tecumseh was a Shawnee Indian chief who had been born around 1768 near Springfield, Ohio.
During the early 1800s, he started to oppose the United States, and attempted to create a confederation
of Indian Tribes to rebel against the United States. One of the main reasons Tecumseh opposed the
United States was the fact that white people were squatting on Native American land, and was forcing
his people out. Although Tecumseh opposed whites, he knew how to speak their language. Tecumseh
was described as a six foot tall man with fine features. He had been rumored to be fluent in English,
and most surprisingly, also in French. He also managed to turn his brother s religious teachings into
political movements in order to get his fellow Native Americans to support his movement. [Collins, pg

Tecumseh s brother, the Prophet, was not nearly as famous.

Discuss the Significance of Father Figures in Frankenstein
Discuss the significance of father figures in Frankenstein
Frankenstein is a story of science gone dreadfully amiss. Shelley offers depth and meaning to
Frankenstein by presenting (sometimes covertly so) insinuations of failed father and son relationships
littered throughout the story. The most obvious relationship in this story is that between Victor
Frankenstein and his monster, however, there are other characters in the story that present themselves
as father figures. In this essay, I will endeavour to discuss not only the significance of the familial
relationship between Victor Frankenstein and his creature, but that of Victor and Alphonso
Frankenstein, Henry Clerval and his father amongst others.
As Allen notes, the most obvious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compassion and obligation urges Victor to sympathise with the creature and even render him happy
like a father should a son; although even so, he makes no attempt to satisfy the monster s needs
(Claridge, Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein: The Search for Communion, p.20).
Victor can understand the feelings of compassion or fatherly care that stir within him but he is unable
to sustain those feelings of concern: I compassionated him, and sometimes felt a wish to console him;
but when I looked upon him my feelings were altered to those of horror and hatred (p.121). He
continues to fail his creature, swearing him into exile, then creating another like him before destroying
it (and thus any chance of happiness for the creature), and then hunting him down. Victor is never able
to perceive the monster s tormented psyche leading to his exclamation Let the cursed and hellish
monster drink deep of agony; let him feel the despair that now torments me (p.172). The irony is
Victor s creation already feels this, but Victor s anger and lack of insight causes him to oversee it
(Claridge, Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein: The Search for Communion, p.20).
There is a slippage of identity between Victor and his creature causing a constant shifting between the
controller and the victim (Morris, The

Candidates And Policy Of The United States Senate Elections
The names of the authors that wrote an article titled Candidates and Policy in the United States Senate
Elections are Gerald C. Wright and Michael B. Berkman. Although the previous literature on the
subject suggests, that policy is not a major factor in the decision making process, the article argued
otherwise.
It is a known fact that a substantial policy difference between the candidates in a particular race exists.
Policymakers write specific policies for the future and an election determines who will write the
policies, which decides the policy. The ideological characteristics of a state and a candidate for a
political office has a positive correlation. Conservative states or districts have conservative candidates
regardless of party affiliation. Meanwhile, liberal states or districts have liberal candidates regardless
of party affiliation.
Besides, the performance of the economy and of the president, assuming that the president and the
candidate share the same party, affects the chances of the candidates. This is evident in almost all
midterm elections in the modern era. If a president (Democratic President Obama) has perceived as
not doing a good job and has a low approval rating (the mid 40s throughout much of his presidency),
then congressional candidates in the midterm elections are not in their best position. Accordingly,
Democrats lost the House of Representatives and some seats in the United States Senate in the 2010
midterm election. The Democratic Party lost the

Is Hamlet Angry With His Father s Father
From Uncle to Stepfather From Mother to Auntie
In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, the main character is angry and expressed his anger
through the medium of allusion. An allusion refers to a mythological person, place, or thing. Many
things around the city of Denmark are changing for the worse. Hamlet is angry with his mother
because he fills betrayed that she would merry another man after two months of his father s death. The
allusion Hamlet expresses those feeling is when he said, With which she followed my poor father s
body, / Like Niobe, all tears. Why she ever she (1.2.148 149). Hamlet is comparing his mother to
Niobe. Niobe is a woman who turned into a stone and weeps for her fourteen children, which Hamlet s
mother only cries for his father for only two months. Hamlet s expression of his mother shows the
reader that she is a gold digger and was not truly in love otherwise she would have grief longer.
Furthermore, these lines can only mean that he was the only person who truly care and loved the ex
king of Denmark. Meanwhile the others had already forgotten about him. All in all, Hamlet though
that maybe his mother would be more impacted by the death of the King, but instead traded him up for
his Uncle. Moreover, Hamlet was in denial that his Uncle was going to be the king and his new father.

entire village of Frampol referred to him as such. But was he truly the fool everyone made him up to

that the townspeople are tricking him, but once again he chooses to go along with it because if it was

Language, Language And Personal Security
Proverbs chapter ten talks about quite a few topics, to list the moral categories mentioned throughout
the proverb there is diligence, laziness, language and personal security. This proverb comes from
Solomon and starts off with the difference between the foolish son and a wise son. The wise son gives
joy to the to the parent whereas the foolish one brings sorrow. In the same sort of comparison
continuing on with the foolish like the lazy and the wise like the diligent, the proverb continues on in
saying that lazy people are quick to become poor and the diligent person who s hardworking will
acquire wealth. That the wise are willing to be instructed and people go about safely when they have
integrity. Language as another moral category ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ending with language again the godly provides wise counsel unlike form the deceitful tongue of the
wicked that will be cut off.
Chapter eleven of Proverbs deals with the moral categories of first integrity then judgment, personal
prudence, kindness, cruelty, generosity and selfishness. Beginning with integrity the proverbs speaks
of the prideful leading themselves to disgrace and that wisdom is produced through humility. Godly
people get their direction from being honest, honesty also is the form which guidance is given but only
to those who are good. So when it comes to integrity not being prideful, humility, honesty and
godliness are key characteristics that one needs in order to maintain a good integrity fitting to the
Lord. When it comes to God s judgment riches won t help people on that day much less their sin as
well as ambition these in turn only trap them making them fall instead. Truly only the godliness of
people is the quality that rescues them in implying the day of judgment. So dishonest gain is
something that the Lord hates being something that is not good when facing him while he is angry.
Then personal prudence is explained in when the proverb talks about a nation falling due to lack of
wise leadership, but just the opposite happens that is safety that comes to those with several

Unit 1 Golf Research Paper
Hole In One
Golf is one of the most fun sports in the world, but it is also a game that requires a lot of patience.
There is almost a golf course in every town so it is not hard to find a place to play. You might say but
it s to hard but with these simple tips you can be the king of the course.
What Is Golf?
Golf is a sport in which a player uses clubs to get a ball into a hole usually a great distance away.
There are not many rules in golf except you can not touch the ball with your hands, unless you hit it
out of bounds and are moving it into play. The only other time you can touch a ball is if you put a
marker down on the ground to show where the ball was that you just picked up.

Don t be confused though if one day a friend can golf it is a sport that you can play against yourself
you can just see how low of a score you get by yourself then brag to you friends or family members.
There is also people that say that golf should not be played with carts and prefer to walk the course, in
my opinion, it doesn t really matter, whether you walk the course or use a golf cart as it doesn t really
change the game that much.
Best Courses
Pine Valley golf course in New Jersey is famous for being one of the most difficult golf courses in the
world. With a mixture of beautiful scenery and difficulty. Cypress Point, this course is both difficult
and maybe the most beautiful course. Located in pebble beach. This course has water surrounding
almost every hole.
Golf Balls
You might be wondering is the ball really that important to the game. Well yes and no is it helpful to
have a better ball yes it allows for more control and longer shots. The one thing you have to remember
is a ball can t really make your game better or worse only very good golfers can tell the difference in
the balls. So for right now I would say get a medium of the range ball not to expensive but not super
cheap. A good middle of the line golf ball is

The Fives System
The FiveS system, also known as the 5S, is a organization system created at first for production
systems and then adapted by western managers for the workplace. Hiroyuki Hirano developed the
system in Japan and it is believed it lead to the very popular Just in time (JIT) manufacturing. For
example, major brands like Toyota have been using this system successfully for years. 5S is based on
the phrase a place for everything and everything in its place. (Byrne) Meaning that the workplace

In my experience as a student, I learned that organization and order are essential for me to achieve my
goals and getting everything done on time. Without a clean organized desk, I can t do my assignments
as fast and efficient as I would if it was. That is because I will waste time cleaning and finding
resources and also I will be paying attention to other things that I shouldn t. In any organization, the
principle is the same because we have the same human behavior. Based on that, it is clear that
implementing the 5S system is very positive for organizations and it is a key concept in organizational
behavior. Pillars The FiveS system is based on five pillars mentioned above. It is important to know
that the system is cyclical, meaning every step follows another and has to be done in the right order

Welcome to the Future Foreign Urban Careers Convention, also known as F. F.U.C.C. or F FOOK K. I
know you are all anxious to travel to distant lands, embark upon adventures, and begin working on
your first million in your chosen career fields! STOP! Before you board that airplane, I am attempting
to SAVE YOUR LIFE at the most keep you from arrest or fines at the least, embarrassment. I have
been asked by the Chairperson of F FOOK K to speak to you today because there just may be no one
more qualified to address the topic of Foreign Faux Pas than moi . FAUX PAS is French. Spelled as if
it should be pronounced FOX PASS, but it IS NOT! The X and the S are, SILENT. And that, friends,
should be the first faux pas you step around. According to Vocabulary.com Dictionary, Faux pas
literally means false step; social blunder. Do not take a false step into a big pile of . . . embarrassing or
offensive unlawful, social crap. Why me, you ask? Unfortunately, I have seen the inside of more
foreign police stations, consulates and embassies than most heads of state; probably more than most
talking heads, radioheads, OR Deadheads, and CERTAINLY more than any heads of class. My first
faux arrest was at the tender age of 6 while my father was US Ambassador to Singapore; I simply
forgot to flush the toilet in a public restroom. Who knew?!? My parents were lucky to only pay a small
fine under the table, to get me released from mall security that time. When I

when this debate comes to a threshold point, the IAS is either transferred or kept under dread of

An automotive business is quite specialized and involves significant upfront capital required for
purchase factory facilities and machine equipment, materials for building the engines, vehicle parts, as
well as costs for hiring and marketing. Because of these high exit barriers, car manufacturer can t just
close down their business as it will not be easy to sell off an automobile facility and equipment to
buyers in a different industry.
Economies of scale and experience
These are important barriers of entry especially in current global automotive industry. In order to
achieve that, meaning an automobile company must have the ability to mass produce and sell a large
volume of cars to sell in order to breakeven. Established automotive leaders probably have an
advantage over a new entrant in achieving cost efficiency as they may have overcome this barrier
either through strategic partnerships or mergers as sharing of manufacturing facilities and technology
(know how) will help to minimize overhead costs of production.

Prisoner s Dilemma Beach Kiosk
Short Paper: Week 6
Prisoner s Dilemma and the Beach Kiosk Game
The Prisoner s Dilemma is a mathematical game theory that refers to a game in which the payoff from
playing the dominant strategy is not the highest payoff possible and illustrates how self interest can
lead rational individuals and companies to pursue a course leading to mutual self destruction, even
when that destruction is foreseeable or in the case of companies certain decisions could have financial
impact for better or worse. It seems that the Prisoner s Dilemma impacts the many small decisions we
consider making. The dilemma provides the logical framework for many situations we face every day
in real life. Whether we re competitors conducting business, spouses ... Show more content on

Should Nasrallah accuse Syria, his friend, tell it all and get the reduced sentence? Or should he take
the full blame and remain silent about Syrian involvement? But what would be his reward for that?
Well it turned out that Hezbollah is accusing Isreal of Harir s death and the Tribunal accused two of
Hezbollah s members. The Tribunal asked Hezbollah to turn those accused men over however
Hezbollah has not done so yet . In the real prisoner s dilemma, the only possible equilibrium for the
game is for all players to defect, meaning to betray their fellow prisoner. Syrian president Assad may
have already done that. Will Nasrallah follow? This is the question. We ll wait and see but the payoff
matrix might look like this:
Payoff Matrix Assad Cooperate (Don t Confess) Assad Defect (Confess)
Nasrallah Cooperate (Don t Confess) N A both get 3 years N get 30 years
A goes free
Nasrallah Defect (Confess) N gets 30 years
A go free N A both get 12 years
The Beach Kiosk Theory is another idea looking at stable and unstable equilibriums. The idea is
having two competitors within close vicinity of one another to capture more market share than the
competition. The noted scenario is at a beach that is 200 meters long. There are two people licensed to
sell soft drinks, snacks, etc. They can set up their kiosks anywhere they want on the beach. People will
go to whichever kiosk is closer. One choice is for one

New Media Expands Old Philosophy Essay
This famous quote summarizes the gloomy philosophy of existentialism. Schopenhauer, using this
philosophy, believed that the universe was meaningless and irrational, and that his irrational life was
full of choices that brought him in contact with the nothingness of the universe. Existentialism has no
definite description because individuals create their own meaning by making sense of the world as it
pertains to the individual. While individuals create their own meaning, there are several common
themes that are followed. These themes fall under the general idea that reality is absurd and it is the
responsibility of humans to make their own choices and accept the consequences of these choices in
regard to the individual s experience. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In the movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the main character, Charlie, experiences dread and
even blackouts when he relives flashbacks of his Aunt Helen raping him as a child (Perks). Charlie
represses these memories, and therefore he feels dread knowing that it should not have happened but
he still respected her despite what she did. Charlie knew that the dread was a sign that the thoughts
were not good and that suppressing them was the wrong choice, however, he never tried to change it
and the dread continued.
The Stranger, by Albert Camus, also demonstrated how the main character, Meursault, found
temporary dread and anxiety in little things along his journey from the time of his mother s death to
his conviction. Upon learning of the passing of his mother, Meursault follows existentialist

anything is the world of sports, with fans rooting for teams that are winning championships to fans
that are just praying and hoping that their team can just win one game and try not to be so depressed
that you want to sit in your room and cry yourself to sleep every night. But that is what makes sports

It all starts at the top. General manager Rick Spielman has used the NFL draft to his advantage,
landing solid foundational pieces across the board. It goes on to say how the pieces and the pick up of
the right head coach had made this team a good team that can have even better things to come in the
future if this keeps up for them. A take away from this article that you can see is how important it is to
find the right coach to get your players to the next level but also a good GM to help draft players you
need to get better and that is something the LIons are shaky at best at if anything which is sad for us
fans. Now Bleacher report did teams that can t rebuild and the Detroit pistons where on that list and it
had this to say about them The Pistons have been up and down over the past 25 years, winning a title
in 2004 before sliding steadily to a point where 2014 15 represented the fifth consecutive season with
32 or fewer wins. Now the PIstons have been so close to being back to the playoffs so many times but
then they always fall apart at the end of the season like we have seen so many times and it could just
be because we don t have the players we need to make a push into the playoffs because we are not so
bad a top pick in the draft but not that good to where we can get big name free agents in the offseason
to want to come play for us because we are not a team to make a run at the championship and have a
good chance of winning it, which is really sad because of the history and pride of the Pistons that is in

Anthem For Anthem
Once upon a time, R B lovers far and wide belted an anthem that spoke to them most: I m a survivor
(what?) I m not gon give up (what?) I m not gon stop (what?) I m gon work harder (what?) While
most of the late 90 s used this as the soundtrack to independent people everywhere, I kept it as my
anthem this weekend, all the way in 2017 because some things never go out style. It s been a solid
month since I ve been surviving the steep prices of New York City. I was just about reaching my limit

struggle stories to bond over. I m not going to give the entire experience away, because we re releasing
a video on it in late September, but what I can tell you is the following: After winning best fort from
the instructors themselves, eating a fish eye when almost no one else would, and swallowing my fears
to go zip lining over a moving river, it was pretty clear that G.I. Jo was a survivor. The entire
experience got me thinking: what do we even really need to survive? We talk about the benefits of
being a minimalist; how you need to own your shit and not let your shit own you. But really, when it
comes down to life or death, do we even think about our appearance? The naysayers? The bad grad or
review we received from our higher ups? Absolutely not. The experience not only taught me how to
light a fire using a tampon, chapstick, and a knife, but like most travel stories, it put things into
perspective. Sure, it s nice to have running water, electricity, and WiFi to see what s happening with
your social circle. But at thee end of the day, we only need a few things to survive shelter, water, food,
and companionship.

Essay about Leaving Las Vegas
Leaving Las Vegas, directed by Mike Figgis and based on the autobiographical novel by John O
Brien, is an emotional story about an alcoholic who rejects life and wants to drink himself to death in
Las Vegas, and an unselfish prostitute who loves him the way he is. Ben, played by Nicholas Cage,
was a former movie producer in Los Angeles and has obviously crumbled in the glamour world of
Hollywood which is shown in the opening scene. Here Ben is already an alcoholic when he disturbs
former colleagues that are embarrassed of his appearance at the restaurant. Ben is unstable and a mess
when one of the men give him money and tell him not to contact him again. Ben then gets fired and

The director mainly used eye level shots, to leave it up to the audience to judge the two main
characters of the movie, although certain power struggles in the film are shown from high angles to
illustrate someone dominating a conversation or argument. Figgis also uses some point of view shots
to show the imbalance during Ben s drunken periods where the camera is placed at an oblique angle to
show tension and approaching movements. The images in the film are in high contrast with streaks of
blackness and harsh shafts of light to underline the dramatic events that occur.
When it comes to the editing, Figgis mainly used cutting to continuity to preserve the fluidity of most
events without the necessity to show them all. The director also uses flash forwards a few times to
give you an idea about the destiny of Sera, which is shown when she reflects about her encounter with
Ben to an invisible therapist. Figgis also shot the movie using Super 16mm film to give it a tense,
documentary feel. The music is also very unique because the jazzy soundtrack isn t the usual music in
a movie with such an emotional and dramatic plot. The actors have a great impact on the success of
this movie because the extremely difficult roles were played by excellent actor stars. The story is done
very well because it starts off showing us the situation of the two main characters as they are and as

The Effects Of Rape Culture And The Psychological Post...
When discussing genocide, it is simpler to discuss the overall impact of the collective to create an
elaborate visualization of the horrific events incurred by genocide, than to focus on the impact of a
single genocidaire. The victims of genocidal violence are given a respectable amount of attention,
because they are the victims of atrocities and they deserve justice and recognition for their sufferings.
Due to the recent influx on research into the sociological effects of rape culture and the psychological
post traumatic effects of rape, research on the utilization of rape in genocide has become increasingly
popular among academics of all disciplines. Unfortunately, little research has been done on how
genocidaires, who were once regular civilians of a state, electively join in the execution of mass
violence through committing rape and murder. Modern sociologists and psychologists have yet to
define a collection of definitive characteristics of the genocide rapist, as the majority of research is
done on individual perpetrators have had contact with the criminal justice system and are likely
incarcerated. While extensive research has been done on the characteristics of living victims, the
genocidaire rapist, however, is unlikely to be individually targeted and charged with sexual assault, let
alone be analyzed by behavioral scientists for diagnostic research. Assuming that not all people are
inherently born with the will to kill and commit sexual violence, it s important to

Persuasive Techniques In Bowling For Columbine
A documentary is a genre of film that provides a factual report on a particular story, viewpoint,
message or experience. In this essay, two documentaries, Bowling for columbine by Michael Moore
and Made in Bangladesh by CBC news will be explored to show how persuasive techniques are used
to make an audience feel a particular way.
Firstly, Bowling for Columbine Moore s addresses the issue of gun violence in America following a
school shooting. On the other hand, Made in Bangladesh by CBC news focuses on the issue of
sweatshops and maltreatment of workers in Bangladesh after the collapsing of an uncertified
sweatshop. These two documentaries effectively and successfully use persuasive techniques to present
a confrontational message on social justice. Also, they position the audience to sympathize with the
victims and in turn want to do something about the issue. These techniques include the use careful
selection of material, the use of cinematography, music and sound effects, sequencing and editing.
Although the two documentaries have different content they equally manage to persuade viewers that
the content is meaningful. The impact that the documentaries had on me or other audience members
was that of sympathy and outrage about the incidents that fell upon innocent people featured in these
documentaries.

Why Is British North America Considered A Poor Man s Country
Option 2
Kenneth Chee
During the 17th century, Europe was in the midst of political turmoil. Many people were living in
poverty, and the higher class elite getting wealthier. Disease, famine and poverty was extremely
prominent, due to lack of space in Europe, and unhygienic lifestyles. This left people with nowhere to
go, but find new land. British North America was the best option a European person would encounter
in this circumstance. A historian was quoted British North America as the best poor man s country
meaning that poverty was less oppressive and advancement more possible than Europe at that time.
This characterization is to a very high extent valid. The transition to moving to the colonies led to a
vast amount of freedom, and the spread of democracy. British North America is regarded as the best
poor man s country because it offered better opportunities than England. For example, Jamestown
established a headright system. This agreement included a legal contract between another colonist and
a white person from Europe where 50 acres of land is given if the immigrant works a certain amount
of time. This had never been allowed in Europe so it opened a gate to many opportunities for the
European people that were in poverty. It had made North America an easier ... Show more content on

Nope. Some pony gave me this on the street and told me to give it to you; that s all I know.
Are you sure you can t remember anything about the pony who gave you this? Luna pointed at the
letter.
Yes, I m sure. I wasn t exactly paying much attention when she hoofed it to me. I m, sorry princess.

She completely forgot about the country, and she had pushed any thought it far out of her memory
until that moment. It was a blemish on her past. The country got her banished by her own sister and
now. Now the country was calling her to be its leader.
Her first thought was to tell Celestia right away. She needed to find out what her sister thought of it
the proposal, but then she started having second thoughts. Celestia would never allow her return to go
back there. Why would she ever let her return? It had destroyed their friendship. There was no way
she could tell Celestia about this.
At the same time, Celestia was her sister, and Luna couldn t let something as important as this go
untold. It was a terrible conundrum. She felt like neither solution was right.
It also crossed her mind that she could ignore the letter completely, but what if the ponies needed her.
They went all the way to Equestria to send a letter to her. Luna couldn t leave those ponies out to dry.
Luna weighed the odds. She could tell her sister about the letter, but that could reopen past wounds, or
she could ignore the letter and forget she ever got it. If she ignored it Celestia would eventually find
out.
Finally, she decided she would have to talk to her sister eventually, and decided to go ahead and get it
over with.
She went to Celestia s room. She prepared herself for a hard conversation. There was no way Celestia
would take the news lightly.
She walked to Celestia s door

Greed In Tom Walker And The Devil
Greed is a term that is thrown around a lot in today s society but what is the true meaning of greed?
According to the dictionary greed is intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth,
power, or food (dictionary). Everyone has their own definition of greed, mine is anyone or anything
that puts themselves before others needs. In the short story Tom walker and the devil by irving, the
article titled Greed by Jessica Hawthorn, and the article what is greed by Tomas Baus these authors
show that greed is defined as taking your personal wants before others. Greed is usually fueled by
jealousy. In the short story the devil and tom walker the author uses diction to relay that greed is
fueled by jealousy, after hearing about the skull, tom s wife decided to go against toms warning and go
take the money and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article states more of something than is needed (Jessica 1). When a person wants more than he or
she needs, that is greed. There is no reason to have more of something that isn t essential to life.
Somethings are nice to have a lot of but, it shouldn t make you forget about others and become selfish.
Many people only take what they need which is the opposite of greed, they have others in mind
instead of themselves. The problem with the term greed is, who is to say when someone has enough of
something? The article states Who decides not only what is needed, but when someone has more than
enough (Jessica1). There is no exact amount of something that a person possesses that is considered
greedy. Because of this everyone in the world has different definitions of the word. People in today s
society often argue about what is considered being greedy. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion
but when it s started to hurt others, that is where the line is

The New Delhi School System
While there are many acts of human right violations in the world, a long standing one that has gone on
is in New Delhi, India where they have struggled with the right to education in their public schools.
On April 1, 2010 the act for the right of children to free and compulsory education was passed in New
Delhi, India. The law promised free and compulsory education to all children between the age groups
of six and fourteen years old. A study on the implementation of the Right to Education Act in Delhi
three years of its existence, has shown overwhelming violations. Although the act was passed, there
have been 10,000 accounts of violations of child s rights recorded. The New Delhi school system s use

Remnants of the glorious past survive as important monuments in different parts of the city (Pollanki).
Although Delhi has prospered as the capital of modern India, its population is spiralling upwards due
to rapid economic expansion and increased job opportunities. The downside of this inflation, is
chronic overcrowding, traffic congestion, child labour, housing shortages, pollution, and unfortunately
unfair educational opportunities to local children. Although New Delhi is a fast growing city, some of
their political opinions are outdated, like their lack of commitment to the human right to education.
Many schools around New Delhi have denied students access to their schools. A majority of the
victims in this case are children who belong to economically weaker , or refugee families in New
Delhi, and cannot provide correct papers to enter the school, some have even been denied access for
lack of hygiene. One child was denied entrance to school on complaint of his poor hygiene and was
asked to take his admission somewhere else (iGovernment). When many of these families cannot even
afford food on their table for their children, lack of hygiene should not be a reason to deny a child
their right to an education. This incident isn t the only case in which a student was turned away from
school, surveys taken around the local New Delhi schools reported, twenty three per cent of children
stated that they have differently abled (disabled) children in their schools; main

Erich Fromm s The Art Of Loving
Love. Let this word sink deep into the abyss that is your mind for a moment. What thoughts, if any,
come rushing to the forefront? Is it your family, a girlfriend or boyfriend, an object? Love, it is an all
too powerful word that is often tossed around with reckless abandon in today s fast paced and ever
advancing society. The question is: is true love something that is attainable in the world we live in or
are there too many obstacles in our path that mitigate the chance to find the greatest part of what
makes us human? Erich Fromm raises this question, among others, in his book The Art of Loving.
To begin with, society today is as interconnected as it has ever been. With the advent of social media,
in all its forms, whether it is Snapchat or Twitter, a person in today s world can communicate with
anyone they please with a touch of a few buttons. The world is practically in our pocket. Although it
may seem like we are never alone, are individuals in our society really more alone than ever? Is this
aloneness the reason why nearly 49.1 percent of 12th graders have turned to illicit drugs? According to
Fromm this separateness is the very reason some choose this route: While they try to escape from
separateness by taking refuge in alcohol or drugs, they feel all the more separate after the orgiastic
experience is over, and thus are driven to take recourse to it with increasing frequency and intensity.
(Fromm 13) This aloneness, whether some realize it or not, lies in the

Richard Fee Was A Potential Medical Student
Richard Fee was a potential medical student, an athlete on the baseball team and sophomore class
president. In 2008 he began to struggle with focusing on his studies and went to see a doctor who
believed he had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The doctor immediately prescribed him
Vyvanse for his ADHD. In 2008 after he graduated with a degree in biology, he began to study hard
for the medical school entry exams. (Schwarz 1) This caused him to make an appointment to the
nearby Triad Psychiatric and Counseling Center. The doctor concluded from an 18 question survey
that he had an inattentive type of ADHD. Richard Fee never had any signs of ADHD before college,
as a kid or young adult growing up. A nurse practitioner at the psychiatric counseling center recorded
that before, Richard s complaints about organization, memory and attention to detail. , his speech was
clear, his thought process goal directed and his concentration attentive. (Schwarz 3) Transitioning into
severe abuse, he would refill his prescription multiple times a month when he wasn t even out of them.
Then the side effects of Vyvanse began to take place; Richard s sleep patterns became jumbled, he was
in a dark depressed mood and moved back in to his home in Virginia Beach with his parents. Richard
began to go through his medication expediently and would go through a whole months worth in a
couple weeks. Richard s behavior was spiraling out of control at this point. He then became paranoid

The Life of the Catholic Church in the US

Fee Simple Research Paper
Fee simple defeasible is another way of saying fee simple qualified. Fee simple qualified is an estate
for which owner has fee simple title subject to a condition. If the condition is not met, then the title
passes back to the owner. It is a conditional estate based on that condition. A condition subsequent is a
condition that must occur after the transaction and a condition precedent is a condition that must occur
prior to the transaction. The classic example is that of a specific use being required of a property. A
man gave his property to the city to use as a library. Years later the city stopped using the property as a
library and the man s heirs demanded the property back. The man s family regained title because the
title held by the city was a fee simple defeasible / qualified title and the condition was that the
property be used as a library. Just as a contrast, a fee simple absolute, is a transfer with no conditions.

absolute is an estate in fee which means it is a perpetual estate or an estate of inheritance too. The fact
that a home is purchased instead of rented makes the estate a freehold estate. A fee simple absolute is

Flappers In The 1920s Essay
During the Roaring Twenties, women gained more rights, and this allowed them to roam out of society
s standard of a woman. This was a time where women bobbed their hair, ventured out to speakeasies
and dared to shorten their hemlines (Jamie). These types of women were known as flappers. A studies
professor, Rosanna Hertz, said that flappers were rebels, and fashion played an extensive role in
allowing them to express their freedom. Women were supposed to wear clothes that covered their legs,
even [if] flapper dresses were knee length, it was still enough to raise eyebrows (Jamie). A New York
designer named Regina Kobler was a woman of this time period who designed these new styles of
clothing. Her work is showcased in the small show at

Julie Zehner Personal Response
It is my distinct pleasure to recommend Julie Zehner as a candidate for your scholarship. For the past
three years, Julie has been one of my students of the yearbook class at John Glenn High School, and
through my interactions with her I have found Julie to be a student of very high caliber. Two of Julie s
outstanding qualities are her responsibility and her work ethic. I know that, without a doubt, Julie will
follow through with her assignments (and will often voluntarily go above and beyond the required for
helping assemble the yearbook), and her sense of responsibility and the trust I have in her skills led me
to ask her to be the yearbook editor this year. In fact, Julie is enrolled in this class as an independent

  • 2. Antibiotics Vs Antibiotic Free Meat I understand your confusion on whether or not to purchase antibiotic free meat because many people are uneducated on genetically modified foods and their impact on our health. With that being said, before you decide if antibiotic free meat is best for your family you have to understand what antibiotics are, and the difference between meat that is treated with antibiotics versus antibiotic free meat. Antibiotics are commonly known as medicines that are used to prevent or kill bacteria and have been used for decades to treat humans. In humans, antibiotics are seen as increasing the quality of health care and extending the lifespan of people by essentially preventing death from infectious diseases. Like you, many people are unaware that about 80% of the antibiotics sold in the United States are actually used in agriculture (insert reference). More specifically, antibiotics are used in meat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Salmonella is a bacteria that develops in the intestine track which is commonly caused from eating contaminated meat and poultry. Some recent outbreaks of salmonella both occurred in 2011. In the united states there was a deadly salmonella outbreak in ground turkey. And in the UK there was an outbreak in ground beef which caused several infections. The salmonella strain in both of these instances is resistant to four types of bacteria which made it difficult to cure. MRSA, Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, is a highly contagious staph infection that is the result of antibiotic resistant bacteria. This infection causes skin abscesses or internal abscesses. In a study in the Midwest United States livestock workers were found to have carried MRSA, which is alarming because this was not a infection that was believed to occur in livestock. • 3. The Ancient Inventions Of The Future The Ancient inventions of the future Socrates was one of the greatest philosophers of the ancient world. His teachings inspired young philosophers to go and explore the world. In addition, His Knowledge even influenced boundless minds like Plato, who help make gigantic pushes in geometry. Or Aristotle, who mad giant leaps in astronomy (also made a theory that the earth was round in about 384 B. C.). therefore, a new era of philosophy was inaugurated and the course of western civilization was decisively shaped. Modern mathematics, Medicine, and cartography was all modernized during this age of philosophy. Without the Greeks, present ideals and the way we live our life would not be the same. So it is important that we know what the Greeks invented and their power over our civilization. First of all, the use the same form of democracy that we use in America. They decided that a dictator would have too much control and power. So they got a cabinet of over 500 people for democratic voting. They voted on taxes all the way up to executions. It worked a lot like our jury system, with people randomly chosen to serve. As it was said by Scott J. Cooper; Demokratia, Greek for power of the people, was born in Athens in the 7th century BC. As the city state s oligarchy exploited citizens and created economic, political and social problems, Athenians were inspired by the successful, semi democratic model Sparta had adopted. They turned to lawmaker Solon, who tried to help the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are four stages in the Change Process, they are; Denial, Resistance, Exploration and Commitment. These are pretty self explanatory but I ll walk through them is a made up scenario. Tom had been a great employee and loves his job for the variety it offers and because it s so close to his home that he doesn t have to deal with much traffic. • 5. Argumentative Speech About Hawaiians How are you doing? I m doing okay. I m sorry for not sending you a letter sooner, but the days have been super busy lately. I have gotten ill on the journey to Hawaii, but luckily the illness went away shortly after we arrived. My body figure has noticeably gotten skinnier from my usual buff posture because of famine during the voyage. I also haven t been able to trim my hair, so now it is very long and untamable. He seems to be quite fond of us and our mission. I am currently sheltered in a hotel room provided by the king himself, Liholiho. Most of the Hawaiians have taken a liking to our way of life, too. They are quite peculiar. Can you believe that the Hawaiians wear loincloths and mini dresses on the daily? I find that to be very obnoxious and offensive. I thought that it was blatant knowledge to not show skin. Some Hawaiians, however, have tried to protest against us. Maybe they re just biased. We ll convert them soon enough. Regardless, I just wanted to inform you that so far, our mission to convert the Hawaiians has been going quite well. Their economy is a lot different from the economy that we have back in England. First of all, the Hawaiians don t have many schools. Our teachers and some of the missionaries are working with the Hawaiians to try and get schools created. Second of all, the Hawaiians have a kapu system, which is pretty similar to our law system, but theirs is a lot more strict. Isn t it ridiculous how one of their kapu states that men and women ... • 6. The Influence Of The Emancipation Proclamation The African Americans turned the tide of the war , said Abraham Lincoln. If the African Americans did not join the Union, the South would of won. The Announcement of the Emancipation Proclamation was a good war strategy due to the amount of soldiers they gained. It enabled the African Americans to join the Union army and gave them tremendous amounts of help in numbers. The Emancipation Proclamation was a document that set slaves free except in the border states of Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, and Delaware. The Emancipation Proclamation came into play after the Union s victory at the Battle of Antietam, which was the bloodiest day. The purpose was to free the slaves in order for them to join the Union Army. Lincoln used this as a war strategy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Neil Armstrong As A Hero This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind. (Neil Armstrong). In the 1960s, the race began between America and the Soviet Union to see who could be the first to launch humans to the moon. Several years later, America achieved a goal that was believed unlikely and almost impossible a few years earlier. During the 1960 s Neil Armstrong changed the world and became an American hero. Neil Armstrong had a long journey before he got to take those first steps on the moon. As a child, he moved with his family to several Ohio communities before they settled in Wapakoneta when Neil was 13 years old ( Armstrong, Neil Alden ). Neil Armstrong s family moved a lot around Ohio until they finally found a place to settle. Neil was only 13 years old. Moving could have made it hard for Armstrong to make friends and he could have had a hard time dealing with school. Also, according to www.notablebiographies.com, Neil Armstrong was the oldest of three children. He had a sister named June and a brother named Dean. His parent s names were Stephen and Viola Armstrong. His sister June, was four years younger than him. Later on, In 1947, Armstrong entered Purdue University. He began studies in aeronautical engineering. But in 1949, the United States Navy called him to active duty. Armstrong became a Navy pilot and was sent to Korea in 1950, near the start of the Korean War.In 1952, Armstrong returned to Purdue. He earned a bachelor s degree in aeronautical engineering there in 1955. Also in 1970, he earned a master s degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Southern California ( Armstrong, Neil Alden ). Before Neil Armstrong finished school, he was in the Navy, but cared enough about his education to continue it 2 years later. He even returned to school 15 years later. This lead to him getting a master s degree and a bachelor s degree. The beginning of Armstrong s life led to many different accomplishments for his time. Neil Armstrong had many life accomplishments other than walking on the moon.To begin, Neil Armstrong is known for being the first man to walk on the moon, making American history. • 8. Intellect Argument The intellect argument also comes into play when critics talk about Eve and her dreams, particularly the difference in which Adam and Eve receive information after the fall. Adam goes on his journey with Michael while Eve sleeps. Many see this as supporting the gender hierarchy because Adam s journey is considered a high form of prophecy because an angel is involved whereas dreams are often considered a low form (McGrath79). Also, there is the fact that dreams used in previous points of the poem were Satanic and therefore already given a negative connotation. The difference in which the two are treated in terms of information is concerning, especially because the difference in which they are treated is so wide, one traveling with an angel ... • 9. The Battle Of Tippecanoe By William Henry Harrison The Battle of Tippecanoe was one of the major steps towards the War of 1812. It took place on November 8, 1811, in a clearing near Prophet s Town. It was also perhaps one of the most controversial battles in the War of 1812. Although a peace treaty had been made one day prior before the Battle of Tippecanoe, the Native Americans attacked, which caused the American soldiers to fight back, who were led by General William Henry Harrison. The Native Americans had been led by Tecumseh, a Shawnee Indian Chief. The Battle of Tippecanoe was a controversial battle which the Natives Americans started, and ultimately, lost. Tecumseh was a Shawnee Indian chief who had been born around 1768 near Springfield, Ohio. During the early 1800s, he started to oppose the United States, and attempted to create a confederation of Indian Tribes to rebel against the United States. One of the main reasons Tecumseh opposed the United States was the fact that white people were squatting on Native American land, and was forcing his people out. Although Tecumseh opposed whites, he knew how to speak their language. Tecumseh was described as a six foot tall man with fine features. He had been rumored to be fluent in English, and most surprisingly, also in French. He also managed to turn his brother s religious teachings into political movements in order to get his fellow Native Americans to support his movement. • 11. Discuss the Significance of Father Figures in Frankenstein Discuss the significance of father figures in Frankenstein Frankenstein is a story of science gone dreadfully amiss. Shelley offers depth and meaning to Frankenstein by presenting (sometimes covertly so) insinuations of failed father and son relationships littered throughout the story. The most obvious relationship in this story is that between Victor Frankenstein and his monster, however, there are other characters in the story that present themselves as father figures. In this essay, I will endeavour to discuss not only the significance of the familial relationship between Victor Frankenstein and his creature, but that of Victor and Alphonso Frankenstein, Henry Clerval and his father amongst others. As Allen notes, the most obvious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Compassion and obligation urges Victor to sympathise with the creature and even render him happy like a father should a son; although even so, he makes no attempt to satisfy the monster s needs (Claridge, Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein: The Search for Communion, p.20). Victor can understand the feelings of compassion or fatherly care that stir within him but he is unable to sustain those feelings of concern: I compassionated him, and sometimes felt a wish to console him; but when I looked upon him my feelings were altered to those of horror and hatred (p.121). He continues to fail his creature, swearing him into exile, then creating another like him before destroying it (and thus any chance of happiness for the creature), and then hunting him down. Victor is never able to perceive the monster s tormented psyche leading to his exclamation Let the cursed and hellish monster drink deep of agony; let him feel the despair that now torments me (p.172). The irony is Victor s creation already feels this, but Victor s anger and lack of insight causes him to oversee it (Claridge, Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein: The Search for Communion, p.20). There is a slippage of identity between Victor and his creature causing a constant shifting between the controller and the victim (Morris, The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Candidates And Policy Of The United States Senate Elections The names of the authors that wrote an article titled Candidates and Policy in the United States Senate Elections are Gerald C. Wright and Michael B. Berkman. Although the previous literature on the subject suggests, that policy is not a major factor in the decision making process, the article argued otherwise. It is a known fact that a substantial policy difference between the candidates in a particular race exists. Policymakers write specific policies for the future and an election determines who will write the policies, which decides the policy. The ideological characteristics of a state and a candidate for a political office has a positive correlation. Conservative states or districts have conservative candidates regardless of party affiliation. Meanwhile, liberal states or districts have liberal candidates regardless of party affiliation. Besides, the performance of the economy and of the president, assuming that the president and the candidate share the same party, affects the chances of the candidates. This is evident in almost all midterm elections in the modern era. If a president (Democratic President Obama) has perceived as not doing a good job and has a low approval rating (the mid 40s throughout much of his presidency), then congressional candidates in the midterm elections are not in their best position. Accordingly, Democrats lost the House of Representatives and some seats in the United States Senate in the 2010 midterm election. The Democratic Party lost the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Persuasive Techniques In Bowling For Columbine A documentary is a genre of film that provides a factual report on a particular story, viewpoint, message or experience. In this essay, two documentaries, Bowling for columbine by Michael Moore and Made in Bangladesh by CBC news will be explored to show how persuasive techniques are used to make an audience feel a particular way. Firstly, Bowling for Columbine Moore s addresses the issue of gun violence in America following a school shooting. On the other hand, Made in Bangladesh by CBC news focuses on the issue of sweatshops and maltreatment of workers in Bangladesh after the collapsing of an uncertified sweatshop. These two documentaries effectively and successfully use persuasive techniques to present a confrontational message on social justice. Also, they position the audience to sympathize with the victims and in turn want to do something about the issue. These techniques include the use careful selection of material, the use of cinematography, music and sound effects, sequencing and editing. • 37. Why Is British North America Considered A Poor Man s Country Option 2 Kenneth Chee During the 17th century, Europe was in the midst of political turmoil. Many people were living in poverty, and the higher class elite getting wealthier. Disease, famine and poverty was extremely prominent, due to lack of space in Europe, and unhygienic lifestyles. This left people with nowhere to go, but find new land. British North America was the best option a European person would encounter in this circumstance. A historian was quoted British North America as the best poor man s country meaning that poverty was less oppressive and advancement more possible than Europe at that time. This characterization is to a very high extent valid. The transition to moving to the colonies led to a vast amount of freedom, and the spread of democracy. British North America is regarded as the best poor man s country because it offered better opportunities than England. For example, Jamestown established a headright system. This agreement included a legal contract between another colonist and a white person from Europe where 50 acres of land is given if the immigrant works a certain amount of time. Is it your family, a girlfriend or boyfriend, an object? Love, it is an all too powerful word that is often tossed around with reckless abandon in today s fast paced and ever advancing society. The question is: is true love something that is attainable in the world we live in or are there too many obstacles in our path that mitigate the chance to find the greatest part of what makes us human? Erich Fromm raises this question, among others, in his book The Art of Loving. To begin with, society today is as interconnected as it has ever been. With the advent of social media, in all its forms, whether it is Snapchat or Twitter, a person in today s world can communicate with anyone they please with a touch of a few buttons. The world is practically in our pocket. Although it may seem like we are never alone, are individuals in our society really more alone than ever? Is this aloneness the reason why nearly 49.1 percent of 12th graders have turned to illicit drugs? According to Fromm this separateness is the very reason some choose this route: While they try to escape from separateness by taking refuge in alcohol or drugs, they feel all the more separate after the orgiastic experience is over, and thus are driven to take recourse to it with increasing frequency and intensity.
