Grant Wood
Grant Wood I recently took a trip to the Jocelyn Art Museum. There they had many great painting in
the permanent art collection. One that caught my eye, which I had seen many times before, but never
knew any thing about, was a painting called Stone City, Iowa , which was created by Grant Wood in
1930. This painting is oil on wood panel and is 30 ¼ X 40 inches. Grant Wood is a famous
philosopher who was born in February in the year 1891 in Anamosa, Iowa. Wood was born to Quaker
parents on a small farm. This experience would be the basis of his iconic images of small town plain
folk and verdant Midwestern vistas. He later moved to Cedar Rapids after the death of his father in
1901. He first studied at the Minneapolis School of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the start of his career he was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and then painted in a
manner that could be compared to those of John Sloan, Edward Hopper, Edouard Vuillard or Utrillo.
Wood changed his style in 1928 as seen with American Gothic , his masterpiece produced in 1930,
which became a much popular painting in the U.S. It represented a couple of farmers in front of their
house built in the gothic carpenter style. Such painting revealed the influence of German and Dutch
primitive painters regarding the minute treatment of details, notably in the architecture of the farm. It
symbolised the life of pioneers. Wood painted the people and landscapes of the Middle West in an
idealised way, inspired by his personal universe filled with tales and legends thus paying homage to
those people who worked hard without bothering about earning money. Stone City, Iowa was Wood s
first major landscape, painted in the same year as the famous American Gothic. At the height of his
style, Stone City is also the epitome of Wood s dialogue about change that was often threaded through
his traditional subjects. Understood in this tranquil, idealized scene of life in harmony with nature was
the knowledge that Stone City itself reflected the transitions brought about in a rural community by
industrialization. Located on the Wapsipinicon River twenty six miles from

Examples Of Masculinity In Macbeth
Manipulation, the act of controlling something or someone, is prevalent in all societies and drives the
plot of Macbeth. Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, is about a loyal soldier who commits horrible atrocities
to become king, only to be defeated in the end. Throughout the play, male characters are influenced
into doing awful acts, which they would not normally have thought to do, after having their manliness
questioned. They strive to match the stereotype of an aggressive and dominant man. In Macbeth,
Shakespeare reveals that men are manipulated into accomplishing violent deeds in an attempt to live
up to the definition of masculinity through his portrayal of male character.
Shakespeare allows Macbeth to be manipulated into violent deeds, such as killing King Duncan, after
Lady Macbeth criticizes the fragility of Macbeth s masculinity. Lady Macbeth attacks Macbeth s
manliness when she exclaims, when you durst do it, then you were a man; and be more than what you
were, you would be so much more the man (1.7.56 58). She is saying that if Macbeth kills Duncan he

Malcolm pushes Macduff to dispute it like a man (4.3.259) when Macduff mourns over the loss of his
family. He is connecting masculinity to violence and telling Macduff to take revenge and retaliate with
aggression. Malcolm pushes Macduff to convert his grief into anger, which is a stereotypical male
behavior, so that he can inflict vengeance on Macbeth. Also, at the end of the scene, Malcolm replies
that this [tune] goes manly (4.3.276) as Malcolm and Macduff set off to kill Duncan. The violent act
that they are about to commit helps secure their manhood by proving that they are able to be manly
and vicious. Malcolm manipulates Macduff into being his soldier and killing Macbeth when he attacks

Summary Of Figurative Language In Sweetheart Of The Song...
In the short story, Sweetheart of The Song Tra Bong , Tim O Brien uses different figurative language
to give the story a more realistic feel. The use of the Figurative language makes the story much more
interesting and gives more detail to each and every character s current circumstances. The Figurative

Self-Determination in the Basque Country Essay examples
Self Determination in the Basque Country
The Basques, settled on the Franco Spanish border, are a people who do not have a country that exists
as an entity of its own. They are not recognized internationally. Their borders are not respected, and
their culture is repressed. Thus the history of the Basque Country is one of contentious protest against
imposed conditions, unremitting effort in defense of its identity and a relentless search for a means of
democratizing public life. They have not been able to practice or pursue the right to self determination
as stated in the international covenants on human rights (above) and the Universal Declaration of the
Rights of the Peoples from Algeria, July 4th, 1976, that, Every ... Show more content on

One could be shot for speaking the language or gathering in small numbers. Torture was also very
common with at least 100 cases reported annually and these numbers hold to present day. However in
recent years, through the medium of Basque at private language schools known as ikastolaks, progress
has been slow, but constant. Nevertheless, the number of individuals who use it daily or at least have a
working knowledge of language are still sadly disproportionate. (Astrain)
Although the language is slowly being reintroduced to communities, repression continues because
they do not enjoy any political unity, but rather an excess of political institutions and functions.
Therefore, the Basques are deeply dissatisfied with both their lack of territorial unity and the inferior
status of their language, as well as frustrated by the lack of a more participatory democracy. It is said
that, The Basques on either side of the Franco Spanish border vote in elections for no fewer than a
dozen different institutions, (Astrain 6). They want to maintain their cultural integrity and be able to
decide their own future, but this is increasingly difficult when there is no cohesion. Furthermore, the
Basque Country has never been taken into consideration

black families Essay example
Family is a basic unit in every society. However, the makeup of a family is more complex to define.
There are so many types of families that it is impossible to have one distinct definition in trying to
explain how a true family is defined. For example, there are married couples with or without children,
single parent families, and even families headed by gay men or lesbians. These may not have been
considered families not too long ago, but now must be recognized because we live in such a diverse
society. What I want to focus on is the African American family, in terms of what they had to go
through before, during, and after slavery. As well as, where they are now and where it s going in the
future.

Extended Family
As I stated before the extended family has played an important role in African American families
throughout history. Extended family is made up of the family that is outside of your immediate nuclear
family, your uncles, aunts, grandparents and/or cousins. I don t come from a nuclear family, instead I
m from a single parent family, so my mom usually depended on some members of our extended
family to help get by . Even now, I m living with my grandparents, so my extended family has always
played an important role, at least to this point, in my life. The extended family is sometimes used as an
economic unit. African American families are especially known for this type of households. It allows
the family to use resources and exchange goods and services, and other things that probably wouldn t
possible if they were on their own (Dickerson, 1995). This type of living arrangement goes back to
West African cultures. For example, in the Ashanti tribe young women remained in their family
compound because the mothers weren t believed to be able to manage on their on. So they stayed and
received help from the older women in the tribe and other young mothers to help care for the children
(Dickerson, 1995). An extended family gives children someone other than their mother or father to
relate to (Staples, 1994). It can be viewed as a special friendship that isn t shared with either of the
parents.
As effective and helping as the extended family has been, its

The Hobbit By J. R. Tolkien
People like stories that contain much action and adventure. Such stories are real exciting and fun to
read. The Hobbit By J. R. Tolkien is able to convey a great story through its characters, thematic
elements, and literary features. There is something however, that is able to have a major effect on a
story. That is supernatural events. These events are something within a story that the common
audience would not firstly expect to occur. It is of these happenings that make a story that little more
interesting and fun to read, as these events are able to change a story majorly. Supernatural events are
able to be associated with numerous things in stories. Such events that are out of the ordinary are to
leave readers in wonder why it happened. Also, how such event occurred can be of question too. In
The Hobbit, there is a character who is a prime cause of some of the supernatural events that occur in
the story. That character is Gandalf, a friendly wizard who s magic powers is able to help the dwarves.
In Chapter 6 of the Hobbit, there was a disturbance in the Misty Mountains forest area. This area is
usually peaceful. What is this uproar in the forest tonight? Said the lord of eagles (Tolkien, 96).
Surely, something awry was likely to occur. And of course, the suspicions of something going on in
the area were correct. The goblins then encircled all the dwarves and the forest caught fire. All except
Gandalf were trapped. It was up to Gandalf to save the dwarves. Gandalf,

Sleeping Disorders Essay
Having a disorder is something very normal and common where several can be treated and many not.
Sleeping disorders on the other hand may be dangerous or minor. There are over 100 different kinds of
sleeping disorders going from difficulty in falling asleep at night to unnecessary morning sleepiness.
Sleep disorders can be divided into three categories; those making insomnia (sleeplessness), those
causing daytime sleepiness, and those distracting sleep. Insomnia is the most common. It affects
almost 95% of the population. Sleep disorders develop from many causes but they generally form as a
result of health problems. Some sleeping disorders include Sleep Apnea, Restless legs syndrome
(RLS), and Narcolepsy. Around 18 million of the American population have sleep Apnea, but few of
them have been diagnosed. People with sleep Apnea experience sudden pauses in their breathing while
they are asleep. Physical changes, such as sudden loss of weight or gaining of weight or aging, can
lead to sleep Apnea. Usual side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People with RLS may move their legs continually during the day and night, which can result in
trouble sleeping. Signs of RLS can occur at any age, but the most severe cases usually occur in the
elderly. Many RLS patients have a disorder called periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD), which
causes repetitive jerking movements of the limbs, particularly the legs. The movements happen every
20 to 40 seconds and can cause wakening throughout the night. Treatments prescribed for RLS and
PLMD include drugs that affect dopamine, a neurotransmitter. However, because RLS and PLMD are
not well understood, the reasons that drugs affecting the levels of dopamine in the brain are useful are
also not well

Research Summary on Improving the Sony PlayStation Video...
The Sony PlayStation has stable ground in the video game industry, but needs to evolve more. The
lack of networking capabilities and limit of software offerings has kept the PlayStation from
controlling the market. Sony must also market better and make the people aware of what the Sony
PlayStation and PlayStation Network have to offer. Through research and interviews, we have
discovered that the general public is uninformed of the network s capabilities. Sony needs to focus on
customer needs and wants to reach their customers better. Currently, the PlayStation 3 s strongest
aspect Word choice. However, Sony has the opportunity to regain market control with improved
networking and a wider range of software.

Sony is also expanding their networking capabilities to their PlayStation Portable, or PSP. The new
PSP Go is designed smaller than the original PSP and has download only games. The PSP Go revolves
primarily around the use of internet and networking. The PSP has a couple new features which include
the Blu Ray Portable copy, which allows users to transfer a movie from the PlayStation 3 to a PSP.
Remote play, another new feature, allows for people to transfer files such as movies, pictures, or
music from the PS3 to PSP. Sony is also planning to expand their networking capabilities to other
products such as televisions, computers and Blu Ray players. With this, users of a Sony TV, computer
or Blu Ray player to access the Sony Network to download movies and other features. Sony has even
gone on to create a new company called Sony Networking, to handle and expand these capabilities. In
addition to the opportunity that Sony has to take advantage of the networking aspect, Sony must
continue to work on their brand name. Sony s brand name has become less powerful in the recent
years and is partially due to the very wide range of product offerings that spread Sony thin. Since they
offer so many products, it is difficult to concentrate and make each of those products the best in the
market. According to Rick Giusto, The Sony name just isn t the same as it even was five years ago. It

Analysis Of The Movie Zac Beaulieu Essay
Throughout adolescence and high school, students go through many experiences trying to figure out
who they are and how they want to represent themselves. Zac Beaulieu, the protagonist in the film
C.R.A.Z.Y., went through this transitional phase unlike most teenagers who live in Quebec s 1970 s
heteronormative society. As a queer trying to figure out his sexual identity, Zac goes through an
unexpected journey when his non heteronormative ways start to show. It started when Zac realized he
was a little different than the other kids, and especially his brothers. Instead of being a jock or a nerd
like his two of his brothers, he enjoyed to dressing up in his mother s cloths, playing with babies, and
pushing his baby brother s carriage down the street. It was at this moment when his father caught him
dressed up in his mother s clothes talking to his little baby brother that he had unwittingly declared
war on his father . Throughout the movie, Zac has many experiences which ultimately led him and his
family to embrace his sexuality. Using music as an expression of his sexuality, Zac has been able to
learn from each of his experiences and understand and appreciate the person he has become and was
born to be. Some terms that I will use throughout my research essay are queer, cisgender,
heteronormativity, and social identity. I will define these terms to convey a more uniform
understanding of the term and its use in this research paper. Using the University of Michigan s

The Accidental Tourist by Anne Tyler at first glance depicts the struggle between two people to find

unchanged. Eliminating all the luxuries of life Macon feels he will find happiness by going through a

make his bed. This simplistic lifestyle still can?t bring Macon the happiness he so desires. As a result,
he turns to the only people he knows who are just like him so that maybe he can fit in once more.
Macon, still wanting to follow a system , moves back to his childhood home to live with his brothers
and sister. Still searching for happiness, Macon further isolates himself and in turn slips further into
his life of loneliness and self absorption. Rose, Macon?s sister, has her kitchen ?so completely

around the table and play a game of ?Vaccination?, which they made up as kids, so complicated that
no one from the outside could learn the rules. Still feeling connections to the outside world, they then
decide to go without answering the phone. The logic behind the means is that if someone needs them
they can stop by or call the neighbors if it is important enough.
Living at home with his brothers and sisters, Macon?s dog, Edward, is ultimately what brings him into
contact with the outside world. The vicious nature of Edward forces Macon to contact a dog trainer to
try to tame him. This is when the ?brassy Muriel? (Wiehe 96) enters into Macon?s life. Muriel tames

Fire Service Mentality
Intro For many years, the fire service has been behind the times in scientific advancements in regards
to fire tactics, fire behavior, and fire equipment. Through the investigation and experiments of the
National Institute of Standards and Technology over the last few years, the fire service has seen
enormous strides in research that has changed the mentality of the fire service for the better in my
opinion. This paper will cover a little background of the National Institute of Standards and
Technology (NIST), along with how NIST has changed the fire service for the better, and is NIST
good for the fire service as a whole. NIST a Back Ground The need for a Federal Bureau of standards

One of the biggest advancement in the last few years through the help and research of NIST has been
that of flow paths and fire. NIST has been able to show the fire service that when there is a fire and
say a window is knocked out or a door open and not controlled that the flow of natural ventilation
would help the fire grow. This growth then fueled the fire to a point that would catch firefighters off
guard maybe even kill them. Such fires as the one in Chicago that killed a fire captain that died from
the injuries that he sustained while advancing a hose line into a two story, single family structure
(Weinschenk, Overholt, Madrzykowski, 2014). Since NIST determined this to be a real threat to
firefighters, departments have been taking genuine efforts to control the flow of air to the best of their
ability at structure fires. I think that this new tactic of air control has been a real game changer for fire
departments all around the

Ring Species Evolution
Many geneticists believe that all current life stems from one common ancestor in a tree of life fashion.
Over millions of years, this process of speciation has created numerous kinds of creatures, many of
which we are still discovering today. For instance, a rare phenomenon, occuring only in particular
environments, was dubbed as a ring species by scientists Ernst Mayr and Theodosius Dobzhansky and
may help to create this great biodiversity (Pereira Wake, 2015). When a species becomes separated
and can no longer interbreed, the gene flow between these two populations discontinue, which leads to
the development of two entirely different species (Martins de Aguiar, 2017). Researchers have
documented this extraordinary event, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
B. Martins, M. A. M. de Aguiar, and Y. Bar Yam created a simulation to compare calculated
information to the actual evidence found from different greenish warbler forms. They discovered that,
while ring species may be volatile, they can occur for long lengths of time and often match computed
data from their model. Furthermore, they also questioned how each factor influenced the growth and
strength of a ring species. They determined that many elements, particularly the range of species area,
species dependent traits, and geographical features, affect the overall stability and efficiency of
speciation (Martins, de Aguiar, and Bar Yam, 2013). Multiple components having a significant impact
on ring species explains the unstable nature of these scenarios and their rarity. Nonetheless, studying
these less than ideal examples proves that speciation can transpire without the adherence to strict
conditions and also might insist that the definition of a ring species be broadened to encompany more

It seemed as if Harold never got past Erikson s stage of autonomy. The sense of autonomy fostered in
Harold at a young age was denied to him by his mother as she controlled him. In contrast, Maude
played a better role model to him than his mother. She acted wild and crazy and continually
demonstrated freedom. A freedom that his mother never gave Harold the opportunity to indulge in.
She philosophizes continuously about living life to utmost extremes, about rebellion, individualism
and spontaneity. Maude tells Harold that the world dearly loves a cage and that humans should be as
free as a bird. Maude gave the troubled young man a sense of hope and life throughout as he was a
team player not willing to come off the bench to play. She introduced him to Glaucus who served as a
message to Harold, one that he learns towards the end of the movie. Glaucus days are a metaphor for
the life span of a man. He is given a chance to create beauty out of nothing, but is time is limited with
which to do so as he works with a medium that is hard to maintain. It was the carving of the ice that
was important, not the ice itself. Harold s success in life was not being pursued, it was to be attracted
to the person he became through her help. Nevertheless, she constantly instills in Harold that we are
given the gift of life and it is ours to enjoy and it is through her philosophies that Harold becomes a
better man in the end and making

How Did Edmund Norgay Change The World
Various mountaineers state that when everything feels like an uphill struggle, just think of the view at

Personal Reflection Of Personal Ethics In The Classroom
I am one of the numerous amount of students enrolled in your class and most likely, you have no idea
who I am. I am hopeful that this letter will apprise you about my personality, work ethic, and other
characteristics.
When I was younger, I enjoyed being constantly active; whether that be hanging off the couch while
watching T.V. or running around my house yelling incoherent phrases to drive my mother insane, I did
it all. One day, I stumbled upon a video of a girl teaching the viewer how to do a skill named the back
handspring (a skill where you push off from an upright standing position into vertical back onto your
feet to complete a full rotation). In awe, it inspired me to attempt it myself, until I realized it took a lot
more to flip backwards and expect to land on your hands without falling onto your face. I can recall
myself watching a plethora of these varieties of videos in where people demonstrated how to do
different certain skills. I would be fascinated by the idea that you can maneuver your body to do tricks
that most people would not dare to attempt. Not long after that, I begged to try out and, to my
amazement, ended up making it into what would become my gymnastics team.
When I first began, I was not prepared for the amount of work that was required of the individual,
both physically and mentally. I remember the first practice I attended was one of my most exhausting.
Being a newcomer to such an intense sport, it allowed many, many mistakes. The quote said

Essay on Knights And Chivalry
KNIGHTS AND CHIVALRY
Knights were a large part of the Middle Ages. A lot people think that knights are soldiers who were
covered in metal, and fought dragons and evil people. Although they were warriors, or soldiers,
knights never fought dragons. Knights fought for their king or lord because land was promised to
them.
To become a knight you had to be born a noble boy and start training at age seven. The boys didn t go

stabbed the knights in the legs they usually wouldn t be an injury that would kill them. It was also very
hot and heavy. It weighed about 66 pounds. The knights used all different kinds of weapons. The
crossbow was a type of gun that shoots arrows. Longbows shoot arrows but they could not go through
armor. Longbow arrows could be started on fire and shot in to castles. Maces were like a spiked club.
Axes had wooden handles and at the end of it was a sharp point. Swords were metal weapons with
sharp points so when the knights went into battle they could attack on foot and could protect
themselves better.
Chivalry, knighthood s code of behavior, was part of the knight s way of life. He defended the church
and was ready to die for it. He loved the land of his birth, and gave generously to everyone. A knight
fought against injustice and evil, and never surrendered, blinked or flinched in the face of the enemy.
His code of honor and loyalty was sometimes only shown to members of his own class. He usually
acted how he wanted toward people in lower classes. Because the middle ages were so violent it was
hard to stop knights from not

Social Anxiety Disorder And Social Disorders
When people hear the word mental disorder most times their minds are turned towards people who are
different or they automatically think of somebody pretending something is wrong. The term social
anxiety is overlooked and seen as just severe shyness. The people that view it this way are heartless
people who view mental health illnesses as diseases that are made up and shouldn t even exist.
However mental illnesses do exist and they should not be overlooked. Similar to diabetes, Social
Anxiety Disorder is a disease that is very significant and plays a huge role in someone s health, but
can often be overlooked. Nonetheless just because something isn t seen doesn t mean that it isn t there.
Social Anxiety Disorder is a mental illnesses and it needs to be recognized that Social Anxiety
Disorder isn t just extreme shyness. According to Thomas A. Richards, the definition of Social
Anxiety disorder is the fear and the anxiety of being negatively judged and evaluated by other people
(Richards). It isn t uncommon for people to feel like they are being judged or evaluated by people.
More often than not people are judging and evaluating people they see every day. Judging by first
impressions happens all day everyday and everyone has done it. Sure enough, everyone has had these
feelings at one point or another and that is why it is often confused with just being extremely shy.
However, Social Anxiety is a chronic disease and unlike shyness it can not just be overcome. This
makes the question arise of what exactly it is that triggers someone to be susceptible to Social Anxiety
Disorder. Well, there are many factors that contribute in triggering Social Anxiety disorder. Some of
which include, the overuse of technology, they way parents raise their children, and also having been
extremely embarrassed at one point or another. According to Joseph Walsh who is an Associate
Professor at the school of Social Work says, Symptoms of the anxiety may begin in childhood (often
before age five) with another risk period just before puberty. The anxious child may demonstrate a
fear of strangers as early as seven months, and behavioral inhibitions may be observed at 21 to 31
months (Walsh). As children are growing and

The narrow vote came after heated debate on the floor centered on the needs of low income students.
Though Foil initially agreed to an amendment that would direct any savings as a result of HB117 to
Go Grants (Louisiana s needs based scholarship program), the Baton Rouge Republican later asked
the House to remove the provision. In a move that seems out of character to many, Baton Rouge
Democrat Ted James encouraged his colleagues to support Foil s measure: When we create a culture
of low expectations we get what we ask for. We need to make changes to TOPS I hope you follow my
green light, the oft champion of low income families said. Opposed by Governor John Bel Edwards
(D Amite) and the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation (named for the founder of the scholarship), HB117 is
expected to meet resistance in the Senate. As Foil attempts to up the GPA requirement from a 2.50 to a

A scheduled vote on Baton Rouge Republican Steve Carter s Gas Tax bill was postponed Wednesday

Yellow Ribbon Short Story
Let us use our imagination for a brief moment to connect with these characters to better understand
what the various authors are trying to teach. As I ve illustrated below, figures from the short stories
display exceptional examples of the following lessons. First, pretend to be in a position of loneliness.
Next, imagine decision making, and how others poor decisions can provide a cause and effect. The
three lessons I learned from reading the five stories were loneliness, an absence of love, and the
importance of decision making. The first lesson I would like to emphasize on is loneliness. I love you!
You can t leave me like this (Jones 102)! Is what the widow in Footprints screamed. In that moment of
the story, she is not only struck with sadness but a sudden feeling of intense loneliness. Loneliness is
horrid especially in cases severe as this one. I think this is the lesson the author is trying to teach. In
the story Hate Bracelet the author captures the main character s anguish; in such a manner that it is
disgusting to see Lisa behave the way she does. While Lisa s misery may not all be self inflicted, this
is a perfect illustration of what alienating can cause if sustained for a great length of time. While
reading this next story, I could relate to the seclusion Abigail s mother was giving her. In Yellow
Ribbon the author is educating her readers that forcing isolation on people is atrocious. In my opinion,
the stories I referenced demonstrate great

Peer Review Essay
Peer review has always been a key part of learning and teaching irrespective of any language or
classroom. It adds more value to the process of peer learning as it has been acknowledged to be a
useful tool for collaborative learning (Falchikov, 2005; Van den Berg et al., 2006). Peer review has
been put into use for a wide range of subjects and by a large number of practitioners. This is a
formative process where learners evaluate the works produced by their peers for a better
understanding of the concept which eventually enhances the output of the final product (Somerville,
1993; Topping et al., 2000). Elbow (1968) and Murray (1969) have suggested peer review to be

Brindley Scoffield (1998), Topping et al. (2000) and Nicol Macfarlane‐Dick (2006) believe that it
enhances the learning process by making the learners self confident and independent learners.
Moreover, by improving the state of their critical thinking it aids in doing a better critical appreciation
of their peers works as it can reinforce their knowledge and understanding of the subject area
(Somervell, 1993; Topping, 1998; Dochy, Segers Sluijsmans, 1999, Liu Carless, 2006, Hounsell et al.,
2008). In addition, it gives them an opportunity for self reflection (Paulus, 1999; Van Den Berg,
Admiraal Pilot, 2006; Cho MacArthur, 2010; Mei Yuan, 2010) which eventually leads to a more
creative, effective and thought provoking assembly of comments for their peers. Furthermore, it is a
significant part for creating a collaborative and participatory learning environment (Cheng Warren,
1997; Fallows Chandramohan, 2001). At last, as per Hansen Liu (2005) and Lundstrom Baker (2009)
it makes room for the learners to think and realize the diversities of different perspectives which occur
when they evaluate the writings of their peers. As CLT had been adapted in Bangladesh as the
approach of teaching English language, teachers are seen to provide the instructions on the structures
of writing in classroom while most of the students who are from different backgrounds may not be
able to understand the structure of the writing what they are asked to follow in terms of process
writing. From our perspective, we think that peer review of the students on each other s writing in the
classroom can help students develop the knowledge of the structures and strategies of writing in
English rather than simply following the instructions from the lectures of the

Essay On Oliver Twist
Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens is about a young orphan boy who leaves his orphanage to go to
London after years of mistreatment. Being an orphan since birth due to his mother s death and father s
absence, for the first nine years of his life, Oliver lives on what is referred to as a baby farm. However,
at the age of nine he was moved from this baby farm to a workhouse by a man named Mr. Bumble.
This is shown on page seven when a woman name Mrs. Mann, who Oliver was under the care of for
the first nine years of his life, introduces Mr. Bumble to Oliver. This triggers the event that will begin

Hernan Cortes Essay
Hernan Cortes
Myths are hangups from way back :[1] false or highly inaccurate beliefs that are taken at face value.
One collection of myths which has exercised a powerful grip on the minds of many, and contributed to
feelings of inferiority on the part of large numbers of pure or mixed descendants of Native Americans
in the region of northern Mesoamerica,2 has to do with the conquest of the Aztec Empire by
HernanCortes and his followers in the early sixteenth century. This paper attempts to shatter one of
these myths; namely, that Cortes was an extraordinarily brave and intelligent individual who
accomplished an almost miraculous feat. It will do so by making use of the twin concepts of virtu and

Both decisions were based on his ignorance of the actual power of the Triple Alliance and the
confederation of Tlaxcallan.[7]
Cortes underestimated these two because of his early experiences in Mesoamerica. Although they
initially tried to avoid confrontations with the native communities, the Spaniards had to engage in
several battles against a coalition of Maya armies near Potonchan (located in the present day state of
Tabasco). However, they were able to win these battles thanks to the superiority of their weapons and
military tactics.
The outcome of these skirmishes was quickly known! by the Triple Alliance. As a result, when Cortes
arrived in the region of Totonacapan, this alliance opted in favor of a strategy of deterrence rather than
war. Envoys sent by Tenochtitlan established contact with Cortes and presented him with a series of
lavish gifts that were meant to indicate the might of the Triple Alliance.[8] However, the strategy
backfired because Cortes was unable to grasp the symbolism of the gifts and interpreted them as a sign
of weakness. Moreover, the great quantity of gold given to the Spaniards made them all the more
determined to reach Tenochtitlan.

Characters of Sir Walter Elliot and Anne Elliot in Jane...
The Characters of Sir Walter Elliot and Anne Elliot in Persuasion
In Persuasion, by Jane Austen, there are many exceptional characters. Perhaps two of the most
memorable are Sir Walter Elliot, and his daughter, Anne Elliot. These characters are well shaped and
have something about them that transcends time and social class, enabling readers of the all ages, to
feel they have something in common with them.
Jane Austen has created a very silly, vain man with immense family pride in Sir Walter Elliot. Sir
Walter is extremely proud of his good looks, his family connections and above all, his baronetcy.
The reader is introduced to Sir Walter at the beginning of the novel. Immediately his family pride is
seen and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of this, Sir Walter has very unusual opinions of people. Sir Walter s opinions of people
stem from: their personal appearance and their family connections. Because of his concern for
personal appearance, Sir Walter has a low opinion of anyone belonging to the navy, the reason being :
[it] cuts up a man s youth ... Admiral Baldwin s age.
He holds both Admiral and Mrs. Wallis in the highest regard, however, as they are both very
handsome. The reader is not impressed with Sir Walter s ideas.
Sir Walter is also impressed by people s family connections. He is eager to meet Lady Dalrymple, not
because she is family, but because she is a Viscountess. These opinions Sir Walter holds and his
reasons for acquainting himself with others very much emphasizes that Sir Walter is very conscious of
his baronetcy. His pride is also apparent, as he is condescending to people whom he sees as of lower
social class.
Austen further develops Sir Walter through the actions and dialogue of others. Through the characters
of Admiral Croft and Elizabeth Elliot, the reader s impression of Sir Walter is strengthened. Admiral
Croft remarks to Anne that Sir Walter must be rather a dressy man for his time of life and Elizabeth,
again to Anne, says:
One would imagine ...but he abominates them.
Sir Walter s extreme obsession with personal appearance is again emphasized, making him not well
liked.
Finally, Sir Walter s own dialogue condemns him further.

Taking a Look at Facebook and Linkedin
The social networking service, Facebook, was created by Mark Zuckerberg with his college
roommate, who both attended Harvard University, and launched Facebook in February 2004 (Phillips,
2007). Once the social networking sight went viral, the website s membership was no longer limited to
Harvard students college students from the rest of the United States and Canada soon started to use the
social media service (History of Facebook, 2014). Facebook has become so popular and globally
spread, that it is now being used by individuals and businesses worldwide. Mark Zuckerberg stated
that the core idea of Facebook was to create a platform for people to share and connect with others
who are prevalent in one s life (Our Community to the Facebook Community, 2011). Facebook has
created a borderless world and civilians can connect with friends and family who are dispersed all
over the world. Publicising one s life on the internet is risky, and has lead the Facebook team to create
privacy settings to limit others access to the user s information. Facebook wanted to ensure that users
would feel comfortable to share moments and events about their real lives without being fearful of
unwanted individuals viewing this information (Knibbs, 2014). This defining fact gave way to
individuals, for the first time, having tools that they can use to broadcast their lives and connect with
others. With this new found knowledge that the social media website could be used to communicate

Locke s Theory Rejecting Free Will Essay
In this essay I will argue against Locke s theory rejecting free will. I will claim that in Locke s Of
Power, he ultimately provides evidence for a limit on liberty in respect to will, rather than the denial of
liberty in respect to will altogether. I will provide evidence for my stance, by assessing Locke s
definitions for liberty, necessity, and will. I will also rationalize my thesis by assessing the legitimacy
of their relationship in respect to Locke s theory, and attempt to uncover answers to ambiguous
questions in Locke s doctrines.
Locke states that it is folly to suggest that the will can have liberty, is faulty due to them both being
powers. He states that powers can only be attributed to agents (people), and that it us improper to
suggest that the power of will can have the power of freedom. Moreover, to Locke, the correct
statement would be that a person is free to will. He states that an agent is limited in the liberty, to
either do or forebear doing something, and accordingly, the power of the will, or the act of it (volition)
has the same dual limitations; either willing to do something, or forbearing willing to do something. In
answer the question of what determines the will, Locke states one s actions are a result of pleasure
(good) and pain (evil). Either one s will attempts to seek pleasure, or eliminate pain (find a
comparatively less painful power than the currently proposed pain). Accordingly he considers desire
to be a form of pain, or unease.

3.1 Data Collection
Primary and secondary are the two major forms of any particular study. Primary has unprocessed and
information which is not manipulated and it is gathered directly from the source whereas secondary
means a reliance on the already researched work which is available and has been researched by
numerous scholars and researchers. Both methods are used to gather the important info for the use of
exploratory study as in this case.
3.2 Primary data collection
Bryman and Bell (2007) said that to carry out a qualitative data then there are two methods used:
direct observation and conduction an interview. This approach always provides an analysis in detail
and elaborates the research. Creswell (2009) had this view that primary data is important and has a
great significance because it is always in a raw form and it is more authentic because it has been
collected directly from the source. So, for this study it was suggested to conduct primary data from the
students who are studying in UK and the method used for semi structured interview.
The reason for using semi structured interview is that; researcher can easily edit the questions asked in
a semi structured interview session before they are answered and the questions can be manipulated
which makes it more valuable and important for any research. To conduct an interview, the queries are
based on the idea to rely on the basic aim and objective of the field of the study and also highly

Climate Change Action Is The Un, And Unfccc
EU actorness in tackling climate change The most significant existing platform for climate change
action is the UN, and UNFCCC in particular. The essay will now move on to the overall assessment of
the evolution of the EU actorness in the climate change policy area during 1990 2000s, and, in the
process, focus on the case study of the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Summit (also known as COP15).
COP15 is a particularly interesting case to review when analysing the EU actorness in this area due to
the fact that EU s performance is mostly assessed as disappointing. Thus, it is an opportunity to take a

coherence but less favourable external factors for the EU international actorness (Pavese and Torney

external developments had an impact on its weak outcomes. The recognition criterion at COP15 is
fulfilled and does not cause any debate as the EU played a key part in the development of the
UNFCCC. The EC was de jure recognised as a full UNFCCC member from the very beginning. Even
though de facto recognition is not entirely dependent on the de jure recognition, in the case of COP15
it recognition may be assessed as considerable as the third parties perceived the EU as an important
actor and entity with the competence to negotiate. As for the authority, although technically the
Council could authorise the Commission to speak for the EC (Delreux 2006, p. 238), due to climate
change action being the area of shared competence involving taxation and energy policy, the EU was
represented by the rotating presidency (Lacasta, Dessai and Powroslo 2002, p.369). In bilateral

When children experience early speech difficulties they tend to be at risk later on. By being
susceptible to language skills early on allows the child (ren) to be more proficiency and react in a way
that contributes to them being able to express themselves in a way that causes them to use a variety of
different phonemes and at the same time mix and maneuver other language and literacy skills.
Numerous studies have found that there is a strong link between language problems, reading and
overall academic achievement (Konza, 2006, Snow Burns and Griffin, 1998, Justice and Ezell, 2000).
Constructive early language and literacy development can be an ally to opening a child s (ren)

children grow (birth to 3 yrs. old) their brain goes through an extradinary developmental process and
they begin to think, learn, communicate and rationalize things. When this early developmental stage is

  • 2. Grant Wood Grant Wood I recently took a trip to the Jocelyn Art Museum. There they had many great painting in the permanent art collection. One that caught my eye, which I had seen many times before, but never knew any thing about, was a painting called Stone City, Iowa , which was created by Grant Wood in 1930. This painting is oil on wood panel and is 30 ¼ X 40 inches. Grant Wood is a famous philosopher who was born in February in the year 1891 in Anamosa, Iowa. Wood was born to Quaker parents on a small farm. This experience would be the basis of his iconic images of small town plain folk and verdant Midwestern vistas. He later moved to Cedar Rapids after the death of his father in 1901. He first studied at the Minneapolis School of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the start of his career he was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and then painted in a manner that could be compared to those of John Sloan, Edward Hopper, Edouard Vuillard or Utrillo. Wood changed his style in 1928 as seen with American Gothic , his masterpiece produced in 1930, which became a much popular painting in the U.S. It represented a couple of farmers in front of their house built in the gothic carpenter style. Such painting revealed the influence of German and Dutch primitive painters regarding the minute treatment of details, notably in the architecture of the farm. It symbolised the life of pioneers. Wood painted the people and landscapes of the Middle West in an idealised way, inspired by his personal universe filled with tales and legends thus paying homage to those people who worked hard without bothering about earning money. Stone City, Iowa was Wood s first major landscape, painted in the same year as the famous American Gothic. At the height of his style, Stone City is also the epitome of Wood s dialogue about change that was often threaded through his traditional subjects. Understood in this tranquil, idealized scene of life in harmony with nature was the knowledge that Stone City itself reflected the transitions brought about in a rural community by industrialization. • 3. Examples Of Masculinity In Macbeth Manipulation, the act of controlling something or someone, is prevalent in all societies and drives the plot of Macbeth. Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, is about a loyal soldier who commits horrible atrocities to become king, only to be defeated in the end. Throughout the play, male characters are influenced into doing awful acts, which they would not normally have thought to do, after having their manliness questioned. They strive to match the stereotype of an aggressive and dominant man. In Macbeth, Shakespeare reveals that men are manipulated into accomplishing violent deeds in an attempt to live up to the definition of masculinity through his portrayal of male character. Shakespeare allows Macbeth to be manipulated into violent deeds, such as killing King Duncan, after Lady Macbeth criticizes the fragility of Macbeth s masculinity. Lady Macbeth attacks Macbeth s manliness when she exclaims, when you durst do it, then you were a man; and be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man (1.7.56 58). She is saying that if Macbeth kills Duncan he can prove and convince ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Malcolm pushes Macduff to dispute it like a man (4.3.259) when Macduff mourns over the loss of his family. He is connecting masculinity to violence and telling Macduff to take revenge and retaliate with aggression. Malcolm pushes Macduff to convert his grief into anger, which is a stereotypical male behavior, so that he can inflict vengeance on Macbeth. Also, at the end of the scene, Malcolm replies that this [tune] goes manly (4.3.276) as Malcolm and Macduff set off to kill Duncan. The violent act that they are about to commit helps secure their manhood by proving that they are able to be manly and vicious. • 5. Self-Determination in the Basque Country Essay examples Self Determination in the Basque Country The Basques, settled on the Franco Spanish border, are a people who do not have a country that exists as an entity of its own. They are not recognized internationally. Their borders are not respected, and their culture is repressed. Thus the history of the Basque Country is one of contentious protest against imposed conditions, unremitting effort in defense of its identity and a relentless search for a means of democratizing public life. They have not been able to practice or pursue the right to self determination as stated in the international covenants on human rights (above) and the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Peoples from Algeria, July 4th, 1976, that, Every ... Torture was also very common with at least 100 cases reported annually and these numbers hold to present day. However in recent years, through the medium of Basque at private language schools known as ikastolaks, progress has been slow, but constant. Nevertheless, the number of individuals who use it daily or at least have a working knowledge of language are still sadly disproportionate. (Astrain) Although the language is slowly being reintroduced to communities, repression continues because they do not enjoy any political unity, but rather an excess of political institutions and functions. Therefore, the Basques are deeply dissatisfied with both their lack of territorial unity and the inferior status of their language, as well as frustrated by the lack of a more participatory democracy. It is said that, The Basques on either side of the Franco Spanish border vote in elections for no fewer than a dozen different institutions, (Astrain 6). They want to maintain their cultural integrity and be able to decide their own future, but this is increasingly difficult when there is no cohesion. • 6. black families Essay example Family is a basic unit in every society. However, the makeup of a family is more complex to define. There are so many types of families that it is impossible to have one distinct definition in trying to explain how a true family is defined. For example, there are married couples with or without children, single parent families, and even families headed by gay men or lesbians. These may not have been considered families not too long ago, but now must be recognized because we live in such a diverse society. What I want to focus on is the African American family, in terms of what they had to go through before, during, and after slavery. As well as, where they are now and where it s going in the future. Extended Family As I stated before the extended family has played an important role in African American families throughout history. Extended family is made up of the family that is outside of your immediate nuclear family, your uncles, aunts, grandparents and/or cousins. I don t come from a nuclear family, instead I m from a single parent family, so my mom usually depended on some members of our extended family to help get by . Even now, I m living with my grandparents, so my extended family has always played an important role, at least to this point, in my life. The extended family is sometimes used as an economic unit. African American families are especially known for this type of households. It allows the family to use resources and exchange goods and services, and other things that probably wouldn t possible if they were on their own (Dickerson, 1995). This type of living arrangement goes back to West African cultures. For example, in the Ashanti tribe young women remained in their family compound because the mothers weren t believed to be able to manage on their on. So they stayed and received help from the older women in the tribe and other young mothers to help care for the children (Dickerson, 1995). An extended family gives children someone other than their mother or father to relate to (Staples, 1994). It can be viewed as a special friendship that isn t shared with either of the parents. • 7. The Hobbit By J. R. Tolkien People like stories that contain much action and adventure. Such stories are real exciting and fun to read. The Hobbit By J. R. Tolkien is able to convey a great story through its characters, thematic elements, and literary features. There is something however, that is able to have a major effect on a story. That is supernatural events. These events are something within a story that the common audience would not firstly expect to occur. It is of these happenings that make a story that little more interesting and fun to read, as these events are able to change a story majorly. Supernatural events are able to be associated with numerous things in stories. Such events that are out of the ordinary are to leave readers in wonder why it happened. Also, how such event occurred can be of question too. In The Hobbit, there is a character who is a prime cause of some of the supernatural events that occur in the story. That character is Gandalf, a friendly wizard who s magic powers is able to help the dwarves. In Chapter 6 of the Hobbit, there was a disturbance in the Misty Mountains forest area. This area is usually peaceful. What is this uproar in the forest tonight? Said the lord of eagles (Tolkien, 96). Surely, something awry was likely to occur. • 8. Sleeping Disorders Essay Having a disorder is something very normal and common where several can be treated and many not. Sleeping disorders on the other hand may be dangerous or minor. There are over 100 different kinds of sleeping disorders going from difficulty in falling asleep at night to unnecessary morning sleepiness. Sleep disorders can be divided into three categories; those making insomnia (sleeplessness), those causing daytime sleepiness, and those distracting sleep. Insomnia is the most common. It affects almost 95% of the population. Sleep disorders develop from many causes but they generally form as a result of health problems. Some sleeping disorders include Sleep Apnea, Restless legs syndrome (RLS), and Narcolepsy. Around 18 million of the American population have sleep Apnea, but few of them have been diagnosed. The movements happen every 20 to 40 seconds and can cause wakening throughout the night. Treatments prescribed for RLS and PLMD include drugs that affect dopamine, a neurotransmitter. • 12. Analysis Of The Movie Zac Beaulieu Essay Throughout adolescence and high school, students go through many experiences trying to figure out who they are and how they want to represent themselves. Zac Beaulieu, the protagonist in the film C.R.A.Z.Y., went through this transitional phase unlike most teenagers who live in Quebec s 1970 s heteronormative society. As a queer trying to figure out his sexual identity, Zac goes through an unexpected journey when his non heteronormative ways start to show. It started when Zac realized he was a little different than the other kids, and especially his brothers. Instead of being a jock or a nerd like his two of his brothers, he enjoyed to dressing up in his mother s cloths, playing with babies, and pushing his baby brother s carriage down the street. It was at this moment when his father caught him dressed up in his mother s clothes talking to his little baby brother that he had unwittingly declared war on his father . Throughout the movie, Zac has many experiences which ultimately led him and his family to embrace his sexuality. Using music as an expression of his sexuality, Zac has been able to learn from each of his experiences and understand and appreciate the person he has become and was born to be. Some terms that I will use throughout my research essay are queer, cisgender, heteronormativity, and social identity. Over millions of years, this process of speciation has created numerous kinds of creatures, many of which we are still discovering today. For instance, a rare phenomenon, occuring only in particular environments, was dubbed as a ring species by scientists Ernst Mayr and Theodosius Dobzhansky and may help to create this great biodiversity (Pereira Wake, 2015). Furthermore, they also questioned how each factor influenced the growth and strength of a ring species. They determined that many elements, particularly the range of species area, species dependent traits, and geographical features, affect the overall stability and efficiency of speciation (Martins, de Aguiar, and Bar Yam, 2013). Multiple components having a significant impact on ring species explains the unstable nature of these scenarios and their rarity. She philosophizes continuously about living life to utmost extremes, about rebellion, individualism and spontaneity. Social Anxiety Disorder And Social Disorders When people hear the word mental disorder most times their minds are turned towards people who are different or they automatically think of somebody pretending something is wrong. The term social anxiety is overlooked and seen as just severe shyness. The people that view it this way are heartless people who view mental health illnesses as diseases that are made up and shouldn t even exist. Similar to diabetes, Social Anxiety Disorder is a disease that is very significant and plays a huge role in someone s health, but can often be overlooked. Nonetheless just because something isn t seen doesn t mean that it isn t there. Social Anxiety Disorder is a mental illnesses and it needs to be recognized that Social Anxiety Disorder isn t just extreme shyness. According to Thomas A. Richards, the definition of Social Anxiety disorder is the fear and the anxiety of being negatively judged and evaluated by other people (Richards). It isn t uncommon for people to feel like they are being judged or evaluated by people. More often than not people are judging and evaluating people they see every day. Judging by first impressions happens all day everyday and everyone has done it. Sure enough, everyone has had these feelings at one point or another and that is why it is often confused with just being extremely shy. However, Social Anxiety is a chronic disease and unlike shyness it can not just be overcome. This makes the question arise of what exactly it is that triggers someone to be susceptible to Social Anxiety Disorder. Well, there are many factors that contribute in triggering Social Anxiety disorder. Some of which include, the overuse of technology, they way parents raise their children, and also having been extremely embarrassed at one point or another. According to Joseph Walsh who is an Associate Professor at the school of Social Work says, Symptoms of the anxiety may begin in childhood (often before age five) with another risk period just before puberty. As I ve illustrated below, figures from the short stories display exceptional examples of the following lessons. First, pretend to be in a position of loneliness. Next, imagine decision making, and how others poor decisions can provide a cause and effect. The three lessons I learned from reading the five stories were loneliness, an absence of love, and the importance of decision making. The first lesson I would like to emphasize on is loneliness. I love you! You can t leave me like this (Jones 102)! Is what the widow in Footprints screamed. In that moment of the story, she is not only struck with sadness but a sudden feeling of intense loneliness. Loneliness is horrid especially in cases severe as this one. I think this is the lesson the author is trying to teach. In the story Hate Bracelet the author captures the main character s anguish; in such a manner that it is disgusting to see Lisa behave the way she does. While Lisa s misery may not all be self inflicted, this is a perfect illustration of what alienating can cause if sustained for a great length of time. In addition, it gives them an opportunity for self reflection (Paulus, 1999; Van Den Berg, Admiraal Pilot, 2006; Cho MacArthur, 2010; Mei Yuan, 2010) which eventually leads to a more creative, effective and thought provoking assembly of comments for their peers. Furthermore, it is a significant part for creating a collaborative and participatory learning environment (Cheng Warren, 1997; Fallows Chandramohan, 2001). At last, as per Hansen Liu (2005) and Lundstrom Baker (2009) it makes room for the learners to think and realize the diversities of different perspectives which occur when they evaluate the writings of their peers. As CLT had been adapted in Bangladesh as the approach of teaching English language, teachers are seen to provide the instructions on the structures of writing in classroom while most of the students who are from different backgrounds may not be able to understand the structure of the writing what they are asked to follow in terms of process writing. From our perspective, we think that peer review of the students on each other s writing in the classroom can help students develop the knowledge of the structures and strategies of writing in English rather than simply following the instructions from the lectures of the ... One collection of myths which has exercised a powerful grip on the minds of many, and contributed to feelings of inferiority on the part of large numbers of pure or mixed descendants of Native Americans in the region of northern Mesoamerica,2 has to do with the conquest of the Aztec Empire by HernanCortes and his followers in the early sixteenth century. This paper attempts to shatter one of these myths; namely, that Cortes was an extraordinarily brave and intelligent individual who accomplished an almost miraculous feat. Both decisions were based on his ignorance of the actual power of the Triple Alliance and the confederation of Tlaxcallan.[7] Cortes underestimated these two because of his early experiences in Mesoamerica. Although they initially tried to avoid confrontations with the native communities, the Spaniards had to engage in several battles against a coalition of Maya armies near Potonchan (located in the present day state of Tabasco). However, they were able to win these battles thanks to the superiority of their weapons and military tactics. The outcome of these skirmishes was quickly known! by the Triple Alliance. As a result, when Cortes arrived in the region of Totonacapan, this alliance opted in favor of a strategy of deterrence rather than war. Envoys sent by Tenochtitlan established contact with Cortes and presented him with a series of lavish gifts that were meant to indicate the might of the Triple Alliance.[8] However, the strategy backfired because Cortes was unable to grasp the symbolism of the gifts and interpreted them as a sign of weakness. Moreover, the great quantity of gold given to the Spaniards made them all the more determined to reach Tenochtitlan. Unable to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Characters of Sir Walter Elliot and Anne Elliot in Persuasion In Persuasion, by Jane Austen, there are many exceptional characters. Perhaps two of the most memorable are Sir Walter Elliot, and his daughter, Anne Elliot. These characters are well shaped and have something about them that transcends time and social class, enabling readers of the all ages, to feel they have something in common with them. Jane Austen has created a very silly, vain man with immense family pride in Sir Walter Elliot. Sir Walter is extremely proud of his good looks, his family connections and above all, his baronetcy. The reader is introduced to Sir Walter at the beginning of the novel. Immediately his family pride is seen and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of his concern for personal appearance, Sir Walter has a low opinion of anyone belonging to the navy, the reason being : [it] cuts up a man s youth ... Admiral Baldwin s age. He holds both Admiral and Mrs. Wallis in the highest regard, however, as they are both very handsome. The reader is not impressed with Sir Walter s ideas. Sir Walter is also impressed by people s family connections. He is eager to meet Lady Dalrymple, not because she is family, but because she is a Viscountess. These opinions Sir Walter holds and his reasons for acquainting himself with others very much emphasizes that Sir Walter is very conscious of his baronetcy. His pride is also apparent, as he is condescending to people whom he sees as of lower social class. Austen further develops Sir Walter through the actions and dialogue of others. Through the characters of Admiral Croft and Elizabeth Elliot, the reader s impression of Sir Walter is strengthened. Admiral Croft remarks to Anne that Sir Walter must be rather a dressy man for his time of life and Elizabeth, again to Anne, says: One would imagine ...but he abominates them. Sir Walter s extreme obsession with personal appearance is again emphasized, making him not well liked. Finally, Sir Walter s own dialogue condemns him further.

Taking a Look at Facebook and Linkedin The social networking service, Facebook, was created by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommate, who both attended Harvard University, and launched Facebook in February 2004 (Phillips, 2007). Once the social networking sight went viral, the website s membership was no longer limited to Harvard students college students from the rest of the United States and Canada soon started to use the social media service (History of Facebook, 2014). Facebook has become so popular and globally spread, that it is now being used by individuals and businesses worldwide. Mark Zuckerberg stated that the core idea of Facebook was to create a platform for people to share and connect with others who are prevalent in one s life (Our Community to the Facebook Community, 2011). Facebook has created a borderless world and civilians can connect with friends and family who are dispersed all over the world. Publicising one s life on the internet is risky, and has lead the Facebook team to create privacy settings to limit others access to the user s information. Facebook wanted to ensure that users would feel comfortable to share moments and events about their real lives without being fearful of unwanted individuals viewing this information (Knibbs, 2014). This defining fact gave way to individuals, for the first time, having tools that they can use to broadcast their lives and connect with others. • 32. Locke s Theory Rejecting Free Will Essay In this essay I will argue against Locke s theory rejecting free will. I will claim that in Locke s Of Power, he ultimately provides evidence for a limit on liberty in respect to will, rather than the denial of liberty in respect to will altogether. I will provide evidence for my stance, by assessing Locke s definitions for liberty, necessity, and will. I will also rationalize my thesis by assessing the legitimacy of their relationship in respect to Locke s theory, and attempt to uncover answers to ambiguous questions in Locke s doctrines. Locke states that it is folly to suggest that the will can have liberty, is faulty due to them both being powers. He states that powers can only be attributed to agents (people), and that it us improper to suggest that the power of will can have the power of freedom. Moreover, to Locke, the correct statement would be that a person is free to will. He states that an agent is limited in the liberty, to either do or forebear doing something, and accordingly, the power of the will, or the act of it (volition) has the same dual limitations; either willing to do something, or forbearing willing to do something. In answer the question of what determines the will, Locke states one s actions are a result of pleasure (good) and pain (evil). Either one s will attempts to seek pleasure, or eliminate pain (find a comparatively less painful power than the currently proposed pain). Accordingly he considers desire to be a form of pain, or unease. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Primary has unprocessed and information which is not manipulated and it is gathered directly from the source whereas secondary means a reliance on the already researched work which is available and has been researched by numerous scholars and researchers. Both methods are used to gather the important info for the use of exploratory study as in this case. 3.2 Primary data collection Bryman and Bell (2007) said that to carry out a qualitative data then there are two methods used: direct observation and conduction an interview. This approach always provides an analysis in detail and elaborates the research. Creswell (2009) had this view that primary data is important and has a great significance because it is always in a raw form and it is more authentic because it has been collected directly from the source. So, for this study it was suggested to conduct primary data from the students who are studying in UK and the method used for semi structured interview. The reason for using semi structured interview is that; researcher can easily edit the questions asked in a semi structured interview session before they are answered and the questions can be manipulated which makes it more valuable and important for any research. The essay will now move on to the overall assessment of the evolution of the EU actorness in the climate change policy area during 1990 2000s, and, in the process, focus on the case study of the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Summit (also known as COP15). COP15 is a particularly interesting case to review when analysing the EU actorness in this area due to the fact that EU s performance is mostly assessed as disappointing. The period of 2006 2009 is assessed as the time with growing internal EU coherence but less favourable external factors for the EU international actorness (Pavese and Torney 2012, p.136). The Copenhagen Climate Summit, however, demonstrates that both EU actorness and external developments had an impact on its weak outcomes. The recognition criterion at COP15 is fulfilled and does not cause any debate as the EU played a key part in the development of the UNFCCC. The EC was de jure recognised as a full UNFCCC member from the very beginning. Even though de facto recognition is not entirely dependent on the de jure recognition, in the case of COP15 it recognition may be assessed as considerable as the third parties perceived the EU as an important actor and entity with the competence to negotiate. As for the authority, although technically the Council could authorise the Commission to speak for the EC (Delreux 2006, p. 238), due to climate change action being the area of shared competence involving taxation and energy policy, the EU was represented by the rotating presidency (Lacasta, Dessai and Powroslo 2002, p.369). By being susceptible to language skills early on allows the child (ren) to be more proficiency and react in a way that contributes to them being able to express themselves in a way that causes them to use a variety of different phonemes and at the same time mix and maneuver other language and literacy skills. Numerous studies have found that there is a strong link between language problems, reading and overall academic achievement (Konza, 2006, Snow Burns and Griffin, 1998, Justice and Ezell, 2000). Constructive early language and literacy development can be an ally to opening a child s (ren) imagination; this will enhance and empower their potential to become successful readers. Children that come from low income families that are enrolled in schools are affected the most.
