True To The Game Essay
One week removed from the movie industry pulling a Colin Kapernick on movie theaters and taking a
knee for the Labor Day weekend. Hollywood is back with a bang, and by bang I mean fart. The
Hollywood Struggle Season, also known as fall, continues and after a record low drop in box office
sales, they continue to give you no reason to leave your house. This week we have terrible Romantic
comedy starring Reese Witherspoon, a low budget dumpster fire called True to the Game where the
vision of black success is selling drugs and shooting people a bunch, then you have a 9/11 movie
starring Charlie Sheen...nothing more needs to be said. With the 2017 box office coming off its worst
summer in 25 years, Hollywood isn t exactly giving people reason to ... Show more content on

If you are wondering how this stacks up to the original, the film hits all the bullet point check marks of
the original novel so you don t have to worry about the film taking liberties here. Pennywise in this
film is played straight, for the most part, he doesn t have that campy charm that Tim Curry had years
ago. When it comes to the villain, the film takes a more modern horror approach with him. You can
tell that film was inspired by it scares but films like the Conjuring series but doesn t pull off the scares
quite as well. As for the kids in the film, they hit it out of the park. Casting young teens in a role like
this where they need to carry your film could be a disaster, however, the cast here easily carry the
weight. Smart, crass, and sometimes extremely crude the cast here excel at what is needed for them to
relive those characters from the original. Now, this film only gives you the perspective of the
characters as kid, if you want the adult story of them coming back to town and fighting a spider
demon (possible spoilers, I dunno, the book came out over 3 decades ago, get over it) then you have to
wait for the sequel. It s easy to forget the original IT was actually a miniseries and despite this film s
135 minute runtime, that part of the story isn t featured here. As entertaining as the cast is,

Autism And Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Essay
In today s world, it is easy to label people based on what society defines as normal. Society dictates
how we view people on a daily basis and this forces people to view things from a singular perspective.
Unfortunately, this single point of view may lead to discrimination against people who are different.
For example, those with disabilities and other diagnoses are neglected, overlooked, or judged by those
who are influenced by that singular perspective. In specific, Autism which is referred to as Autistic
Spectrum Disorder, is something that the public has heard before but they do not fully understand or
are unaware about its true definition. According to the Centers for Disease Control s Autism and
Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM), approximately 1 in 68 children have been identified
with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (CDC, 2016). This increased prevalence is why it is important
to continue educating the public about those living with Autism as well as critical for social awareness
and for the overall health of the community.
Tipton and Blacher (2014) investigated how those in a college community observed the characteristics
and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Participants were undergraduate students, graduate
students, faculty and staff at a major university in the Southwestern United States and were invited to
participate in a survey via email. The email was sent to the entire college community, which contained
a link to SurveyMonkey. The

Community In S. E. Hinton s The Outsiders
S.E. Hinton s realistic fiction novel, The Outsiders takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the 1950 s. The
Outsiders is about a small town where the town is divided into two social classes the Greasers and the
Socs. From the Socs perspective the Greasers are the low life junkies who are in gangs even though
they re really just in a less fortunate circumstances, and the Socs are the more privileged kids.
Ponyboy is the younger of his two brothers Darry and Sodapop. While some believe the strongest
theme is divided community, I argue that the strongest theme is loyalty, as supported by S.E. Hinton s
use of dialogue, characterization, and conflict. While it is easy to say that the theme of The Outsiders
is divided community. For example there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Socs and Greasers have a rumble, (Hinton 130), and all the Greaser gangs teamed up to
fight the Socs together.Next, the dialogue is when two or more characters are talking out loud in a
story, and their conversation are surrounded by quotation marks. Darry would be a Soc if It wasn t for
you and Soda, (Hinton 20). This is when Darry shows loyalty to his brothers and his gang by not
becoming a Soc. Dally may be a jerk but he is a Greaser and Greasers stick together, (Hinton15). This
quote means that Greasers are like family you stick up for them no matter what. Also it shows how
Pony thinks Dally is a jerk, but he considers him family.Secondly, Characterization is when a
character in the story or the narrator describes how a character acts or looks like. Pony describes Soda
as handsome like the movie star kind. (Hinton 10). This part of characterization shows how soda could
have say for example a movie star because most actors have to be handsome, but he stayed with his
brothers to help them out. Pony also describes Darry as strong, confident, and too young to be running
a family on his own if at all. (Hinton 10). This piece of characterization shows how Darry doesn t turn
his back on his brothers and leave them he stays by their side to take care of them.Lastly, conflict is
when one or more character are in an argument or are physically fighting. One of the major conflicts is
when Johnny runs

How Does The Namesake Show Cultural Identity
Everyone struggles with identification, whether you are born and raised in one country and have
shared the same cultural beliefs and norms your whole life, or whether you are born in one country
and move to another that has different cultural norms and beliefs. What makes it unique to each
individual is the journey one takes to figure out their own identity. The Namesake shows a beautiful
journey from both his mother and Gogol s perspective. It shows a women who was taken out of a
country she loved and a country she only knew, then demonstrated the journey of her son, a first
generation Indian American and his struggle finding his own identity.
When being a part of a first generation immigrant there comes many identity struggles throughout
their lives. Using The Namesake, is a perfect example of the struggle some might face. Gogol, one of
the main characters is a first generation Indian American. Both parents were born and raised in india,

This funeral demonstrated how Ashima found her Indian family in America and how they can share
the same cultural beliefs and norms, but also integrate it with the American culture and citizens who
fully identify with being an American; such as Gogol s girlfriend at the time. It was a beautiful
funeral, especially to see two cultures coming together to honor one from another cultural. The respect
and love being shown, even from Gogol s girlfriend at the time, was a magical experience. You could
see she was a little uncomfortable at first, but then Gogol s family embraced her and showed her by
guiding her through the experience. This scene in the movie explored how two cultures in one country
can come together and share value and practice, even if they might go about it differently. An Indian
funeral is very different from an American one, but the two cultures came together to honor and share
their love for someone they respected, Gogol s

Discretion In Policing
State and territory police play a pivotal role in protecting community safety and protection. Policing
was a combination of national economic interests, domestic and international security, and represented
in time by distinctive organizations (Chapman, 1970; Emsley, 1994). They have responsibility for
peace preservation, and crime prevention as well as upholding the laws, providing assistance in
personal emergencies, and coordinating and managing emergency incidents. Since the police can
employ the discretionary powers, which is a flexible way to dispose of social problems, in a manner
that either directs offenders to or diverts them away from, further penetration into the justice system,
they are seen as the gatekeepers of the criminal justice system, model authority, and law abiding
enforcement (Rob and Santina, 2015, p.348; Wortley, 2003). They seek to sustain politically defined
order and ordering via tracking, surveillance, and arrest. As such, they require compliance to
command from lower participants and citizens. (Peter and Jeffrey, 2015, p.246). Discretion is
universal and legitimate power applied by criminal justice professionals in modern policing, which
requires employing individual judgment for adjudicating whether they use a legal sanction in a
particular situation (McLaughlin, 2013).

Pros And Cons Of Genetically Modified Farming
How is there enough food produced for all the people in the world? Genetically modified farming
plays a big role in food production because it s an easier way to produce food for people from all
around the world. Since the population increases so rapidly, genetically modified farming brings the
quickest way of producing enough food which protects the environment. The environment s not the
only thing with benefits, an easier consumption of vaccines in genetically modified foods helps people
s health. While some people favor non genetically modified farming to prevent possible health risks,
genetically modified farming s essential to address the world s growing population, to protect the
environment, and to prevent large scale illness outbreaks.
Some people support non genetically modified farming because of health risks. The opposers of
genetically modified farming question the safety of genetically modified crops because some believe
testing hasn t been done (Dresser and Siegel). This causes problems for people who eat it (Dresser and
Siegel). Approving and testing genetically modified food has been done since most people eat it today
(Erdosh and Amidon). Health risks like allergic reactions and inflammation can be caused by scientists
insert new and different genes, like from peanuts or dairy, into genetically modified foods (Dresser
and Siegel). Allergic reactions that could cause inflammation are uncommon because genetically
modified foods include health benefits like

The Outsiders In The Outsiders By S. E Hinton
The book The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy forms a different identity throughout the book. At
the beginning of the book, Ponyboy s identity is an outsider to the greasers and to his community. He
does different things, like watch movies without being disturbing, he s good in school and he likes to
read books. Out of the gang Ponyboy didn t have friends. His gang doesn t read books or watch
movies like he does. The greasers just work hard and long on cars at gas stations. Ponyboy has
potential though, he is smart. Ponyboy s identity is different then the the others in his gang. On page 2,
it says, When I see a movie with someone it s kind of uncomfortable, like having someone read your
book over your shoulder. I m different that way. He felt like he was an outsider to everyone because he
was different. People in his gang had gone to jail and Ponyboy stayed good, different. In the text
Doing the Right Thing, four football players are different than other people. They did the right thing
when others would ve stolen. They acted different, like Ponyboy. They text said, Thomas James pulled
out $5 to cover the batteries and a video cord they needed, waved it at the surveillance camera above
the cash register and laid it on the counter... One of them took 80 cents out of his pocket and laid it on

Teen Suicide And Teenage Suicide
Schools across the nation need to take a more proactive step to prevent teen suicide by giving their
students and staff more of an education. For example the Ontario Shores Mental Health Science wants
schools to be more aware also; Last week the Durham school boards announced a new curriculum to
teach teachers about mental illness in youth, funded by the Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health
Sciences in Whitby. ( Scallan and Chantaie). A town in Ontario brought this issue of teen suicide up to
the school board. The school board took a look at it and made a new course for the teacher so they can
be more educated on this specific topic. In Ontario, where the school decided to add a new curriculum
for teachers. The course is funded by the Ontario shore centre for mental health science. This specific
town is one of the many that are starting to talk about teen suicide and making it a topic of discussion.
With teacher having even more knowledge they already do, they will be able to give the right
information and know what to look out for. In addition, there are many factors that could make a
student more at risk of having any suicidal actions. The Centers for disease Control and Prevention
stated a list of many elements to look for , Risk factors: History of previous suicide attempts, Family
history of suicide, History of depression or other mental illness, Alcohol or drug abuse, Stressful life

Out of all the pieces that were a part of Heidi Daub s collection, this was the piece that kept drawing
me back. At first you couldn t see it, because there was the viewing screen in front of it, and then

thing that my eye went to was the infinity symbol that was painted in blue. In my senior year, I studied
about the Celtics, and in my studies, I learned about The Celtic Cross. The Cross was quite literally a
cross and in the middle of it, there was a circle. It is said that the Celtics believed it to mean that there
was a passageway between heaven and earth. The Cross was thought to be based off of the infinity

Delta Airlines Essay
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report provides an examinaion of the current structure, performance, stragergy and management
of Delta Airlines, along with an industry analysis of the airline industry. The report uses current and
past financial and statistical data for the company along with other up to date material to determine
Delta s current market position and future potential.
The report finds that Delta Airlines has successfully emerged from its bankruptcy in 2005 to report
successful returns in both 2007 and 2008. With its 2008 acquisition of Northwest Airlines Delta
became the world s largest airline, further improving its position in the airline industry. Despite this
current positive position report also finds potential adversities ... Show more content on

The Northwest brand is gradually being phased out and being replaced by Delta s name and brand.
During the integration period, Delta and Northwest will continue to operate their own branded aircraft
until the integration process is complete. This has given delta a combined market share of
approximately 18% (Gayle, 2008)
Effects of Market Structure
In the United States there are generally two types of airlines: legacy carriers, which are defined as
airlines that specifically operated interstate routes prior to the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, and
low cost airlines that compete solely on the basis of offering the lowest price per ticket within the
market in which they are operating
Market conduct
Market structure can be defined as patterns of behaviour by enterprises in an effort to adjust to the
markets in which they operate (buy or sell). Pricing strategies and collusive behaviour mergers are a
few dimensions of market conduct. It is the industry norm for a legacy carrier to offer service to most
popular destinations; Delta reducing routes to a similar schedule as the low cost airlines is not an
option in the multi billion dollar industry. In order to gain market share from low cost airlines, Delta
must create a value proposition that differentiates itself from its competitors. Many customers will pay
a premium if the level of service provided is higher than the low cost, no frills

Basic Concepts Of Organization Design
Basic Approach to Organization Design
Organizing is basically about who does what. It means defining responsibilities, building structures
and developing relationships (Boutros Purdie, 2013). The main element in organization is people what
they do how they work together.
When organizing a new organization structure, you must be advisable on:
what the organization is there to do
circumstance which the activities are carried out (technology, rate of growth or change,
management/style, outside environment)
requirements to achieve the aim of the organization
group related activities
establish relationships that should exist in the organization (vertically/within functions
horizontally/between functions)
ensuring that everyone in the organization understands their responsibilities, authority, structure,
relationships.
Boutros Purdie, 2013
The process of structuring an organization is akin to building something with a box of bricks. The
bricks are the key activities or groups. First thing to do is define what these bricks are. Then this is
fitted together to build up a structure. There will be several ways which these bricks can be grouped
together. Experimenting with alternative arrangements will help decide which pattern looks best.
These could be an outcome of two to three structures (Boutros Purdie, 2013).
These constant changes cause organizational problems within the structure.
Formal and informal organizations: A formal organization can be a

The Social Inequalities And The Biosocial Ecology
Viral hemorrhagic fevers (VHFs) are found around the world that is one group of illness caused by
virus of five distinct families: Arenaviridae, Bunyaviridae, Filoviridae, Flaviviridae, and
Paramyxoviridae (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). These include the Ebola and
Marburg, Lassa fever, and yellow fever virus (U.S National Library of Medicine, 2016). Garrett point
out that less than a decade ago, one of the biggest problem in the world was the lack of resources
available to combat the multiple scourges ravaging the world s poor and sick. (Garrett, p. 171). Today,
thanks to private donations, more money is being assigned toward pressing health challenges. But
because the efforts of this money is paying for a largely uncoordinated and directed mostly at specific
high profile diseases resulting a problem because the world is poised to spend enormous resources to
conquer the diseases of the poor (Garrett, p. 171). This paper will discuss the epidemiology of VHFs.,
the social inequalities and the biosocial ecology. The five families of viruses that cause viral
hemorrhagic fever are most found over the world. The Arenaviridae are a family of virus whose
members are generally associated with rodent transmitted disease in humans causing severe illnesses
(Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). Flaviviridae are a family of positive, single

How Water Is The Water Of The Future Essay
Thousands have lived without love, but not one without water. A.H ADUEN. There cannot be life
without water. Over centuries scientist have said that life began in water. Water makes up fifty percent
to sixty percent of the average human body. To stay healthy, we must at least drink eight glasses of
water a day, we cannot survive three days without water. As you see water is obligatory to the world;
in fact, nothing on earth could survive without it. There could be no life without water. But what if one
day there were no water around to drink? Why should we care about the water of the future, and what
can we do to save water from decreasing? As you read through any science textbook and you ll read
that water is renewable, that although it is used, it is never used up. But water usage is increasing.
Although water covers three fourths of the earth, 97 percent of it is salt water, and more than two
percent is frozen in glaciers and icecaps. That means less than one percent of all water on this earth is
usable, while water usage per person averages 100,000 gallons per year. The world s six billion
citizens are appropriating 54 percent of all the accessible fresh water. United Nations research shows
that by 2025, The researchers expect 5 billion (52 percent) of the world s projected 9.7 billion people
to live in water stressed areas by 2050. They also assume about 1 billion more people to be living in

Perin V. Hayne Case Summary
The case involving Perin v. Hayne seeks to determine if the defendant Dr. Robert Hayne, was in any
way negligent when he performed a surgical procedure on the plaintiff Ilene Perin, described as a
cervical fusion. This particular procedure sought to alleviate pressure, numbness, weakness and pain
in the plaintiff s back. As a result of this procedure, the plaintiff was left with vocal cord damage that
severely diminished her ability to speak above a whisper. This is supported by the reading, but
plaintiff alleged she suffered paralysis of a vocal cord because of injury to the right recurrent laryngeal
nerve during surgery (Showalter, 2017, pg.171). The plaintiff, Ilene Perin, filed suit against the
defendant Dr. Hayne, under the guise of res ipsa loquitur, specific negligence, battery and or trespass
and breach of express warranty. Applicable law and evidence must be applied in this case to determine
if there was a considerable difference between the consented surgical procedure and the surgery that
was actually done. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among other charges, the plaintiff alleges battery or trespass as one of the offenses committed by the
defendant. The question now becomes what constitutes a charge of battery and or trespass and does
this embody any of the elements or circumstances that may apply to this particular case. According to
criminal law, a battery is defined as both a tort and a crime, and involves the unlawful or unwanted
physical contact of another person. This is supported by the reading, Battery is the actual touching

days of my life. She was not exaggerating when she said that to me, because I literally was. My
relationship with Internal Medicine is a very unique and special one; I don t think there are words that
can truly describe my love and passion for this fascinating, unique and noble specialty. Internal

Evaluating The Logistics Of Loans And Debt- Related Fees
Rutherford B. Hayes once said, let every man, every corporation, and especially let every village,
town, and city, every county and State, get out of debt and keep out of debt. It is the debtor that is
ruined by hard times. (Hayes 56). Although students seek to succeed in life and choose to further their
education, the cost of colleges and universities almost seem to be exorbitant. The emotional toll of
worrying about how the various expenses will be paid and covered for makes it very onerous for one
to pay attention in class. Society says, we want our students to attend college, we will even provide a
small stipend. The money that students are given is not nearly enough to pay even half expenses that
they are responsible for. Scholars all over should be informed about the logistics of loans and debt
related fees in order to alleviate financial stress that comes with paying back loans. Loans are intended
to be governmental assistance to the various individuals that not only display financial need, but to
those who qualify as well. There are many different types of loans such as: student, mortgage, auto,
personal, business, retirement, equity and many others that are available to individuals in need. Not a
lot of people will inform individuals that the interest rate is high and how loans can affect ones credit
score. According to statistics, the most popular loans taken out are student loans and business loans.
Both of these loans typically have high interest rates

Implementation of SMT Concept in Intel Processor Essay
The main idea of this article is implementation of SMT concept in Intel processor which is based on
efficient use of limited amount of processor resources such that at OS and software level it is seems
just like multiple processors are running multiple processes. It is less costly and more efficient.
Sharing policy is also playing an important role in performance improvement. Background: In order to
improve processor performance following traditional approaches like higher clock speeds, instruction
level parallelism, and cache hierarchies were used. But now thread level parallelism is also taken into
consideration. Higher clock speed: Achieve by microarchitecture pipelining to finer granularities
known as superpipelining. Large number of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hyperthreading technology architecture: Hyperthreading technology makes a single physical
processor appear to be multiple logical processors at OS level. From a microarchitecture perspective,
it means that instructions will persist and execute simultaneously on shared execution resources. Die
size and complexity: Hyperthreading technology is resource efficient and deliver a large performance
improvement at minimal cost because it entails only a small increase in die size (is due to a second
architectural state, additional control logic, and replication of a few key processor resources) due to
limited replication of physical processor resources. Microarchitecture choices and tradeoffs: To share
resources, we chose among possible sharing schemes that included partition threshold full sharing
Partition: In a partitioned resource, each logical processor can use only half the entries. Resource
partitioning is simple and low complex. It works best for the major pipeline queues in the in order
pipeline. Threshold: Another way of sharing resources is to limit the maximum resource usage. This
scheme puts a threshold on the number of resource entries a logical processor can have. Full sharing:
The most flexible mechanism for resource sharing, do not limit the maximum

Michael Sattler and the Anabaptist Movement Essay
Perhaps the most misunderstood, least recognized, and largely undervalued of all the great reformers
of the sixteenth century is Michael Sattler, the Anabaptist. The little that is actually known about
Michael Sattler is often times assumed or misinterpreted. However, the definite information available
regarding this radical suggest that his brief yet significant role as a Reformation leader was truly
invaluable for the unification and survival of the Anabaptist movement and its teachings. In addition,
the radical ideas of Sattler and other Anabaptists have helped shape Western culture as we know it

The men, including Sattler, recanted and were released, but banished from Zurich. Upon Sattler s
departure from Zurich, there is no mention of his name until the next summer. Historians believe that
during this dark period, or possibly even before Zurich, Sattler was married to a woman named
Margaretha, a former Beguine. (2)
During the summer of 1526, a man by the name of Hans Kuenzi took Sattler (and possibly
Margaretha) into his home. Kuenzi was an Anabaptist from Oberglatt, and had been jailed for his
beliefs. He was released from prison on May 21, 1526. So it is sometime hereafter that Sattler and
Kuenzi connected. Evidence from a letter written by Kuenzi to the Council at Zurich confirms that
Sattler had not yet joined the Anabaptist movement or even been (re)baptized at this point. Over the
course of Sattler s stay in Oberglatt, Kuenzi taught the young man how to weave, and the two
frequently discussed Scripture together. Although there is no specific date given for Sattler s
conversion, by the time he leaves Oberglatt in late June, he had been baptized and was ready to be an
influence for the Swiss Brethren Anabaptists. (3)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging
The introduction of Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the field of cognitive neuroscience had a
profound impact on the ability of researchers to localize and record cognitive activity in the human
brain. Created by a group led by Ramon Damadian in 1976, this cranial imaging technology finally
bridged the gap between the cognitive outputs of behavior and the inner regions of the brain with
profound accuracy (Clark, 2007). Surprisingly, the implications for MRI scans are perhaps most
significant in the field of lie detection. As stated by Melissa Littlefield in one of her publications on
the subject, MRI technology represents a quantum leap for deception researchers (Littlefield, 2011).
This is primarily due to the fact that governments, law enforcement, ... Show more content on

The study was one of the first to specifically address the limitations of polygraphs in measuring
cognition, as deception is largely a goal orienting process mediated by cortical regions connected to
the CNS. The goal of the study was to localize active regions during truth and lie generation and
determine if an accurate deception fMRI model could be established from the results. To perform the
truth and lie comparisons, the experimenters administered the Guilty Knowledge Task to a group of 26
college students during fMRI scanning sessions. Participants were given a set of cards and instructed
to lie about a random card during the testing period. Langleben et al. used four different truth and lie
conditions using cognitive subtraction to determine changes in activation patterns. The results from
the study were clear. The researchers confirmed their hypotheses that the regions of interest for
deception included the inferior lateral prefrontal and medial superior frontal regions. These areas
contain intercortical networks responsible for attention, working memory, and response inhibition.
Specifically, the prefrontal cortex was determined to be significantly predictive in discerning lies from
truths. Langleben et al. suggested that the intensive load placed on working memory during lie
emphasized trials indicated that truth generation occurred more anteriorly

Bartleby exhibits strong similarities with patients diagnosed as autistic in today s medical community.
Bartleby demonstrates the ability to work well when given strict structural guidelines. A main job of
the scrivener is to copy documents. Upon hiring Bartleby, the lawyer states he did an extraordinary
quantity of writing but it was done silently, palely, mechanically (Melville 2368). Studies have shown
that adults with autism possess the ability to be self sufficient members of society given certain
circumstances. Even though they may lack street smarts, they are capable of attaining their
independence by choosing highly structured and regimented life routines (Klin 345). Copying
documents is a highly structured occupation and requires no need for logical or interpretative skills,
which is why he can do this job so well. Not much is known about Bartleby s previous employment,
except that it is rumored that he worked for the dead letter office for the United States Postal Service.
The dead letter office is where the undeliverable and nonreturnable mail is sent to either be destroyed
or sold at auction. Again, this form of employment would appear to be highly structural and would not
require dianoetic or analytical skills. However, when asked to do other things around the office, even
though it is a common job requirement, he responds that he prefer not to (Melville 2369). Even after

The Concepts Of Power In Michel Foucault, Knowledge And Power
Discourses have a different set of meanings, metaphors, images and stories so that together it can
create a version of events and representing it in a certain structural form. Discourses make us see the
world in a certain way. Each discourse has a different story about the topic in question and shows a
different way of representing the topic to the world. Discourses have another suggestion for what we
do every day. Discourses claim that truth and knowledge are not important and is the centre of the
discussion of identity, power and change. There is a notion attitude . Attitude is a dispositional model
that is used in the discipline of psychology and opinions. Michel Foucault was a French philosopher
and has a background in psychology. He was interested in how knowledge and power were used as a
shape of social control through institutions. Discourses displays our knowledge of the world. In
Foucault s view, knowledge and power goes together as a pair. There is a close relationship between
discourse, knowledge and power; this becomes clear through social practices. An individual s
understanding of the relationship between power and knowledge is that knowledge can raise an
individual s power. In Foucault s eyes, knowledge is connected closely with power. What it is possible
for one person to do to another, under what rights and obligations, is given by the version of events
currently taken as knowledge. Therefore, the power to act in particular ways, to claim resources, to

King Lear Redemption
Shakespeare s King Lear is a play of redemption in which the king moves from moral blindness to a
clearer vision of what really matters.
Discuss this in relation to your set text.
Experiences allow one to move from moral blindness to a clearer vision of what really matters. This is
evident in William Shakespeare s King Lear where Lear goes mad which enables him to broaden his
insight and wisdom and as a result he develops truer and more honest values. This allows him to see
the wrongdoings he had made in the past and atone for them consequently redeeming himself.
Human suffering can catalyse an individual s anagnorisis which gives them a clearer vision to what

Shakespeare s illustrates this notion through the relationship between Lear and Cordelia. Initially, Lear
is blinded by his own pride as he sees love as simply flattering words. Shakespeare s use of an aside
for Cordelia when she states I am sure my love s more ponderous than my tongue depicts her
truthfulness and honesty which serves to amplify Lear s blindness as he misunderstands her causing
him to disown her and disclaim all [his] paternal care, Propinquity, and property of blood. His moral
blindness ruins his relationship with Cordelia as banishes her and gives his kingdom to his other
daughters, Reagan and Goneril. However, as the play progresses his vision becomes clearer as he
realises Reagan and Goneril s deceitful nature, likening Regan to a vulture due to her sharp toothed
unkindness. After going mad, Lear is able to see how he has faulted Cordelia and it is his
reconciliation with Cordelia which signifies his partial redemption. His character development from a
self absorbed king to a caring father reflects his clearer vision for what truly matters. When he slowly
regains his sanity, he remembers not these garments but recognises his daughter as he tells I think this
lady to be my child Cordelia. This indicates his change in values as the first thing he attempts to
identify is his daughter. This is reinforced in the high modality language when Lear claims it will take
a brand from heaven separate him from Cordelia. The apologetic tone when Lear tells Cordelia I ll
kneel down and ask of thee forgiveness symbolises Lear s enlightenment as it exemplifies his desire to
repent for his actions. The death of Cordelia redeems Lear as his actions highlight his love for her.
Shakespeare employs religious imagery in the stage direction re enter King Lear, with Cordelia dead
in his arms which alludes to Virgin Mary holding her dead son Christ in her arms. This heightens and
magnifies

The Influence Of Religion On Western Society Essay
Kaitlyn Ouellette
November 22, 2016
Impact of Religion Assignment
The Influence of Religion on Western Society Religion has significantly affected the development of
western civilizations and societies. All throughout the history we have covered in class, religion has
played a key and essential role in defining the types of cultures within a society a belief or faith in a
spiritual, also a divine power can add significance and true meaning to many of the western people s
lives. Religion is essentially the force that binds a race or a religious group together, and comes with a
sense of personal identity to a higher figure, God. Three specific and most commonly known religions
of Western Society we have focused on in class have been Judaism, Islam and Christianity. Ultimately,
all three religions have a common belief: the religious belief that this universe came into existence,
and controlled and governed by one single God. The history of Judaism began in the Bronze Ages in
the Middle East when God promised a leader by the name of Abraham that he would be the father of
great people if he did as God told him,

Electronic Health Record ( Ehrs )
Introduction Living in a world full of technology, more and more of us are overall connected to
computerizing, and we expect it to do everything for us. Many years before we didn t have
technology, and mostly everyone was into making it. Now if we look at our world, everything is
mostly done online. More Canadians do shopping online, students receive more knowledge about the
subject their learning online, booking hotels, flights, and even do schooling online. Though looking
after all this, most patients in Canada are still handed with paper based records. When we go to the
doctor, most of us still receive handwritten prescriptions and our records are unrecognized.
We live in an era where we are more dependent on technology and want an enhanced access to health
care system in Canada. Electronic Health Record ( EHRs a system where the basis of provinces health
policy will provide a more rapidly and more effective usage to the society in need. Though not having
full access to EHRs might be the barriers for many people in different areas in Canada. Some could
have issues concerning about losing their medical documents, and it can diminish the waiting time in
hospitals or even health clinics as well. So electronic health records should be available for everyone
throughout Canada, and should be providing patients with a safer health care system.

Racism Through Blue Eye Analysis
Racism Through Blue Eyes Throughout the earliest half of the twentieth century, the American way of
life was marred with racial prejudices and acts of discrimination towards the African Americans
people and their culture. Not only were people of color demonized simply on the color of their skin,
but they were also made out to be a lesser human being when compared to those of more wholesome
ethnic backgrounds. The fact of the matter is, racism itself is a very complex issue to discuss and
analyze. In some cases, it is a deep seeded ideal that people always believe and always display. Even

When given this image, one immediately gets an image of what a perfect family would look like, at
least back in the 40s or 50s. Presenting this short story right off the bat really gives the reader a clear
message that emphasizes the things that would make a family truly a family. However, almost
immediately, we are introduced to a family that is completely opposite from the ideal American
family. That family, of course, would be the Breedloves. The Breedloves are the complete polar
opposite of an ideal American family. They never see eye to eye on anything, never have fun times
together, and always seem to have a strong disdain for each other. This can be attributed to the sense
of inferiority felt by the African American people towards themselves. The Breedloves are an inferior
family because they make themselves feel inferior. They make themselves feel inferior because they
are treated inferiorly by their fellow people. We see this throughout the entire story. This whole
principle of racial inferiority is indicative of a large scale issue that was present during the years of
strife for Civil rights throughout the twentieth century. Why would Black people feel inferior?
Because, at that time, they were made out to be inferior in more ways than one. How should one feel
when they are not even made out to be enough of a human being to sit in the front of a bus, or use the
same water fountain, or even go to school in the same building as Caucasians? There s only one way

to me with the bad news: my parent s best friend, Tommy, had been diagnosed with brain cancer. He
had been sick for some time and we all had anxiously been awaiting a prognosis. But none of us were
ready for the bumpy roads that lay ahead: testing, surgery, chemotherapy, nausea, headaches, and
fatigue. Even loud music would induce vomiting. He just felt all around lousy. After several surgeries
and many rounds of chemotherapy, Tommy had lost the will to go on. He stayed at home in bed, he
didn t eat, he had lost the go get em attitude he once had. We all tried to give him the love and ... Show

For they would be the ones who would truly heal. Each item had a specific meaning and purpose, and
each order must be followed exactly. The day came closer and we were all very nervous. The
ceremony was to take place at Baiting Hollow Boy Scout Camp. Everything was coming together and
the next weekend the healing would take place. We were all anxiously awaiting the day. It finally
arrived, and as my mom and I drove down the small, dirt, boy scout camp road, you could almost slice
through the tension in the car. I walked up the path, my heart echoing the faint sound of a beating
drum. As we came upon a clearing I began to feel nervous and a bit unsure. No one knew what to
expect. Familiar faces came into view. Some were faces I hadn t seen in years. We felt the urge to
display our excitement, but we were told there was a sweat lodge nearby, and to resist the temptation. I
wandered amongst the blur of faces saying hello to my large extended family, of life long friends. I
eventually found the man I was looking for. Our reason for gathering in the sweltering heat. The
common bond we all shared. Looking upon his withered body almost broke my heart. He looked frail,
nothing but brittle bones beneath his skin. His head is nearly bald with a few patches of the deep, dark
hair I remembered that the chemotherapy left behind. His thin tank top exposed the scars the surgeries
had left on his body. More difficult for me was noticing the

The Application, Security, And Cloud Services
1.1 Background Normally when we say ERP application it is generally a in premise thing , operating
in a organizations premise. This project contains a ERP application, Security, Cloud services.
Generally, the applications are developed in Row oriented relational databases. In our project we are
using column oriented databases to develop the ERP application. Cloud is going to be used for back
up purposes. Security module consists of ASCII based encryption algorithm for data encryption. 1.
Column oriented organizations are more efficient when an aggregate needs to be computed over many
rows but only for a notably smaller subset of all columns of data, because reading that smaller subset
of data can be faster than reading all data. 2. Column oriented organizations are more efficient when
new values of a column are supplied for all rows at once, because that column data can be written
efficiently and replace old column data without touching any other columns for the rows. 3. Row
oriented organizations are more efficient when many columns of a single row are required at the same
time, and when row size is relatively small, as the entire row can be retrieved with a single disk seek.
4. Row oriented organizations are more efficient when writing a new row if all of the row data is
supplied at the same time, as the entire row can be written with a single disk seek. 1.2 ERP

Mummification throughout the World
Mummies of humans and animals have been found throughout the world. The most well known
culture for preserving the dead with mummification were the ancient Egyptians. Although
mummification existed before the Egyptians with mummies from northern Chile, the Egyptians were
focused on the prospect of eternal life, which meant preserving the body for life. The earliest process
of mummification took place as early as 3000 BC. Special priests worked as embalmers, caring for
and wrapping the body. Beyond knowing the correct rituals and prayers to be performed at various
stages, the priests also needed a detailed knowledge of human anatomy. The first step in the process
was to remove all internal parts that might decay quickly. The brain was removed by carefully
inserting special hooked instruments up through the nostrils in order to pull out bits of brain tissue. It
was a hard job, one which a wrong move could easily disfigure the face. The priest then removed the
organs of the gut and chest through a cut usually made on the left side of the abdomen, (except the
heart) and stored in canopic jars. The skulls of the dead would then be filled with a thick plant paste. It
wasn t until the Middle Kingdom(2050 BC and 1652 BC) that the process began to take on a more
advanced form. After removing organs and the brain ,the caretakers would use natural salts to remove
moisture from the bodies of the dead, drying out flesh and bone. The emptied bodies were then
covered in salt to

Enzalie Alternate Ending
Enzalie sighed sadly, loose pebbles crunching beneath his feet with every step. He could see his
destination in the distance, it was a miracle that the old place was still standing after all this time. Two
decades had past, twenty long years. He should have come back sooner, he paused. He should have
been back here sooner, with his brother. His hand clenched around the hilt of the old dagger in his
pocket. ...looks like we ve come full circle, bro. Enzalie fought back tears, smiling softly. This was it,
this was home. As he got closer he could see that the front door was off the hinges, this was not
surprising. Who knows how many storms had blown through in the years he had been gone, as he got
closer the smell of rotting wood was unmistakeable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He let out a chuff of laughter. ...it s kinda funny, Gize. he withdrew the dagger from his pocket, it was
old but well maintained, the same guy responsible for making us leave, in a way he s also responsible
for getting us home. A tear rolled down his cheek. There was a sickening crack of rotten wood
followed by a yelp from behind him. Enzalie quickly rubbed the tears from his eyes and repocketed
the knife before turning around. Zain had one leg up to his ankle in a new hole, he had managed to
stop himself from falling further by gripping the doorframe. The half shapeshifter had managed a
death grip on the wooden frame by transforming his finger into hard, sharp points. Sorry, you, uh, find
anything? Zain asked as he returned his foot to solid ground. Enzalie took a sideways glance at the
stairs, he wasn t sure he wanted to risk going upstairs. No, just, bad memories and dust. He looked
back over at his friend, his eyes drawn to the almost metalic look of the fingers stuck into the wood.
This place is really a mess, do you still think we can fix it up? Zain struggled nonchalantly to pull his
fingers free from the wood, they did not

Freedom Rider Case
The respite from violent resistance was fleeting because soon after the Greyhound was burned, the
Trailways bus arrived at the Anniston Terminal and eight Klansmen promptly boarded the bus and
proceeded to beat the passengers. The Freedom Riders were attacked once again later on that same
day at the Birmingham terminal where they were beaten by another white mob armed with bats, clubs,
and pipes. This time the bus was burned because the local police, under the direct order of the
Commissioner of Public Safety Eugene Bull Connor, were late arriving to the terminal. Violence
continued to escalate as the Freedom Riders were once again beaten and this time John Seigenthaler, a
representative of the Justice Department sent by Attorney General ... Show more content on

James Farmer even admitted to this when he said: we planned the Freedom Rides with the specific
intention of creating a crisis. This was a necessary action on the part of CORE and the Freedom Riders
because, despite his billing as an ally of the civil rights movement during his 1960 campaign, John F.
Kennedy was a reluctant to act on the difficult issue of civil rights and chose to focus more heavily on
foreign relations. As William Chafe puts it, until about 1962 no one could ever accuse John Kennedy
of having been ahead of his time on civil rights. During his first year in office, he was correctly
perceived by most Southern political leaders as a moderate on the issue of civil rights. Thanks to
protests like the Freedom Rides, the Kennedys were forced to pay more attention to the evolving crisis
in the South. Robert Kennedy was at first unsympathetic to the Freedom Riders whom he regarded as
troublemakers who were damaging JFK s image right before he was to meet Russian leader Nikita
Khrushchev in Vienna. However, upon witnessing the brutish violence carried out against the Freedom
Riders and their commitment to non violent resistance, Kennedy had no choice but to step in and help
protect the Freedom Riders. Once Robert Kennedy got involved, he took steps to ease the Freedom
Riders plight and ordered the Interstate Commerce

The Book Of Judges
Judges: What, Where, When, Why, Who?
The Hebrew word for Judge is ‫שופט‬ (Shofet). In the biblical sense, the word judge carries a much
different connotation than what may be known in today s society. The Judges of the Old Testament
were not Judges of the law ruling over courtrooms. The title Judge was derived from the sense of
judging over Israel. Judges were looked at as selected rulers, leaders, and temporary special deliverers.
They were sent by G D with the purpose of liberating the Israelites from the hands of their oppressors;
whoever that happens to be at the time. The way it is described by the Deuteronomic source is that
anyone who applied G D s judgment to foes of Israel is to be considered a Judge. As read in the
Hebrew Bible: judging is defined as standing up for the oppressed: twelve individuals meet the
requirements of being considered a Judge.
The twelve Judges are made up of Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, Deborah, Gideon, Tola, Jair, Jephthah,
Ibzam, Elon, Abdon, and Samson; however, not all Judges are given equal attention. The book of
Judges focuses mainly on five of the Judges: Ehud, Deborah, Gideon, Jephthah, and Samson.
Ehud is a left handed Judge. In his time and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the restful forty years, the Israelites turned their backs to YHWH and worshipped another god
known as Baal. Soon after the Israelites realized that they did indeed need YHWH, they cried out and
YHWH responded to their cry for help by sending an Angel. The purpose of the Angel was to appoint
Gideon. Gideon was from the tribe of Manasseh, which was one of the main tribes to suffer for their
sin. The Angel went to Gideon and told him that he was brave and that G D was with him. Gideon was
weak and knew that he could not fight alone, but he agreed because G D was with him. Gideon burnt
down all statues of idols and other gods. Soon after, Gideon restored the faith in YHWH and freedom

Black Canyon Coffee Case Notes Hitt 1 Essay
INTRODUCTION
Black Canyon Coffee (BCC) is a Thai based chain of coffee restaurants at the forefront of its domestic
specialty coffee market. This case incorporates content which can be used to illustrate a broad range of
strategic analysis, formulation, and implementation concepts. It is specifically about matching the
company s strategic choices with conditions in the environment. The case is set at a juncture in time
(2002) when the young company needs to clearly define organizational goals that will guide BCC in
an increasingly complex environment.
The case opens with background material on BCC and its founder. It establishes the market
conditions, consumption patterns, and competitive atmosphere of the specialty coffee business in ...

The Thai government is friendly to the interests of other Asian nationals, but protective of domestic
coffee producers. These policies suggest that regional chains would be welcome in the Thai market,
but that continued increases in imports of premium European coffees might be curbed.
As independent coffee shop owners struggle to achieve profitability and seek an exit strategy, BCC
should consider how an acquisition strategy could help the company achieve the objectives of its
domestic business strategy.
Predictions of industry consolidation imply that BCC cannot safely implement a tepid strategy. It will
need to decide if and how to devise a comprehensive international strategy or to retrench into a
domestic dominated strategy with the intent to fortify the home market.
Overall, the world wide market for coffee is enormous, and it continues to demonstrate an upward
growth trend. This provides Black Canyon Coffee with opportunities to expand its business
throughout the world. But other, larger coffee specialty companies will also be pursuing these
opportunities. Also, rising coffee demand in Asia exceeds growth levels in Western nations another
reason that an increase in foreign interests is expected in the Thai market. Black Canyon Coffee s
Managing Director Pong has recently initiated BCC s expansion into international territory. In

Major Environmental Problems Plaguing Louisiana
Environment, a term used to describe the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or
plant lives or operates. Major environmental problems plaguing Louisiana include flooding, but also
pollution and wetland loss. Presently, Louisiana and the city of Baton Rouge are dealing with
dangerous flood levels. According to (Yan et al., 2016), a Red Cross member stated that the
catastrophic flooding in Louisiana is the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since
Hurricane Sandy two years ago (para. 1). Louisiana anticipates it will cost $30 million in relief funds
to repair flood damages (Yan et al., 2016). More than 7 trillion gallons of water fell in Louisiana and
Mississippi over the course of eight days (Sergent et al., 2016). There have been at least 13 deaths
recorded and over 40,000 homes have been destroyed. Rainfall numbers in double digits from a storm
can bring havoc to an area, thus triggering rivers to ascend swiftly, and exceed flood levels (Dolce,
2016). There are some remedies for preventing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to (O Donoghue, 2016), Gerry Stoler said this is going to be a very long recovery. More
than 482 law enforcement officers were affected. More than 150 of the sheriff office s patrol cars were
also damaged so badly during the flood that they can t be used anymore (O Donoghue, 2016).
Although Louisiana has recently experienced a great loss in natural habitats, homes, and wetlands,
rehabilitation is still possible. The Baton Rouge area has pushed through the initial three stages:
devastation, rescue and shock and awe. Now they are working their way through the next five:
community spirit, restlessness, the blame game, politics and embracing big government. The last four
stages include picking up the pieces, where does the region go, road to recovery and the new normal.
It takes time, but the community will

Summary Of Fashion Design By Cristbal Balenciaga
Cristóbal Balenciaga was a fashion designer who always wanted to trial different styles. To lead him
the route in which he would then outline an altogether novel outfit and it is this origination that the
Victoria and Albert Museum have opted to concentrate on this orderly constructed exhibition.
The exhibition is closely structured around three sections: Front of House looks at Balenciaga s
salons, Workrooms uncovers what happens behind the scenes, and Balenciaga s Legacy examines the
impact he has had on other major fashion brands.
From start to finish, the show focuses on the most minor subtle elements that made Balenciaga s
fashion. The designer was never reluctant to be striking as far as style and praising procedure as
opposed to style. Cristóbal Balenciaga s work was so true to modernity and femininity. Innovative and
inviting, his work is always inspiring .
The show uncovers this was a creator who needed to guarantee that each component of his creations
was impeccable, required with each and every progression in making the ideal outfit. If there was the
smallest mistake, he would have torn a design apart and started again in order to keep in full control,
something that had influenced other designers who appreciated his work including Hubert de
Givenchy.

Essay The Role and Effectiveness of the Law Commission
The Role and Effectiveness of the Law Commission
The Law Commission is the main law reform body. It was set up in 1965 by the Law Commission Act
It is a full time body that consists of a chairman, 4 law commissioners, support staff to assist in
research, and 4 parliamentary draftsmen. The Law Commission is an independent, government funded
organisation, which reviews areas of the law that need updating, reforming or developing. It makes
recommendations to Parliament, and these recommendations are published in its report series. The
Law Commission helps ensure that laws provide effectively for the current and future needs of our

This paper will describe the current law and shows the problems and also look for options on
reformation. Following this, the commission will draw up positive proposals for reformation which
will be presented in a report which sets out the research that led to the conclusions. Very often there
will be a bill attached to the report with intent that this is the way that the reform will come into effect.
Lastly, the bill has to enter parliament and has to go through the process from parliament to become
law. This is the aspect of law that creates back log of reforms because parliament often fail to consider
the reforms that are proposed.
The law commission can reform the law in many different ways. Firstly they can do it by repeal, this
is a way of tidying up statutes, they get rid of law, they pass Statutes Law Repeal Act 1995. Another
way they can reform the law is by consolidation, this brings all acts of parliament together on a subject
and put them under one piece of legislation. The final way they can reform law is by Codification.
This is when they bring all law together (common law and statute law) on one subject. This aspect of
law reform is set out in S.3 of the Law Commission Act 1965.
In order to judge the success of the Law Commission we have to consider the areas of law that were to
be reformed and whether those reforms were introduced. The law

  • 2. True To The Game Essay One week removed from the movie industry pulling a Colin Kapernick on movie theaters and taking a knee for the Labor Day weekend. Hollywood is back with a bang, and by bang I mean fart. The Hollywood Struggle Season, also known as fall, continues and after a record low drop in box office sales, they continue to give you no reason to leave your house. This week we have terrible Romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon, a low budget dumpster fire called True to the Game where the vision of black success is selling drugs and shooting people a bunch, then you have a 9/11 movie starring Charlie Sheen...nothing more needs to be said. With the 2017 box office coming off its worst summer in 25 years, Hollywood isn t exactly giving people reason to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If you are wondering how this stacks up to the original, the film hits all the bullet point check marks of the original novel so you don t have to worry about the film taking liberties here. Pennywise in this film is played straight, for the most part, he doesn t have that campy charm that Tim Curry had years ago. When it comes to the villain, the film takes a more modern horror approach with him. You can tell that film was inspired by it scares but films like the Conjuring series but doesn t pull off the scares quite as well. As for the kids in the film, they hit it out of the park. Casting young teens in a role like this where they need to carry your film could be a disaster, however, the cast here easily carry the weight. Smart, crass, and sometimes extremely crude the cast here excel at what is needed for them to relive those characters from the original. Now, this film only gives you the perspective of the characters as kid, if you want the adult story of them coming back to town and fighting a spider demon (possible spoilers, I dunno, the book came out over 3 decades ago, get over it) then you have to wait for the sequel. It s easy to forget the original IT was actually a miniseries and despite this film s 135 minute runtime, that part of the story isn t featured here. As entertaining as the cast is, ... • 3. Autism And Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Essay In today s world, it is easy to label people based on what society defines as normal. Society dictates how we view people on a daily basis and this forces people to view things from a singular perspective. Unfortunately, this single point of view may lead to discrimination against people who are different. For example, those with disabilities and other diagnoses are neglected, overlooked, or judged by those who are influenced by that singular perspective. In specific, Autism which is referred to as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, is something that the public has heard before but they do not fully understand or are unaware about its true definition. According to the Centers for Disease Control s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM), approximately 1 in 68 children have been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (CDC, 2016). This increased prevalence is why it is important to continue educating the public about those living with Autism as well as critical for social awareness and for the overall health of the community. Tipton and Blacher (2014) investigated how those in a college community observed the characteristics and diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Participants were undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and staff at a major university in the Southwestern United States and were invited to participate in a survey via email. The email was sent to the entire college community, which contained a link to SurveyMonkey. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Community In S. E. Hinton s The Outsiders S.E. Hinton s realistic fiction novel, The Outsiders takes place in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the 1950 s. The Outsiders is about a small town where the town is divided into two social classes the Greasers and the Socs. From the Socs perspective the Greasers are the low life junkies who are in gangs even though they re really just in a less fortunate circumstances, and the Socs are the more privileged kids. Ponyboy is the younger of his two brothers Darry and Sodapop. While some believe the strongest theme is divided community, I argue that the strongest theme is loyalty, as supported by S.E. Hinton s use of dialogue, characterization, and conflict. While it is easy to say that the theme of The Outsiders is divided community. For example there are ... When the Socs and Greasers have a rumble, (Hinton 130), and all the Greaser gangs teamed up to fight the Socs together.Next, the dialogue is when two or more characters are talking out loud in a story, and their conversation are surrounded by quotation marks. Darry would be a Soc if It wasn t for you and Soda, (Hinton 20). This is when Darry shows loyalty to his brothers and his gang by not becoming a Soc. Dally may be a jerk but he is a Greaser and Greasers stick together, (Hinton15). This quote means that Greasers are like family you stick up for them no matter what. Also it shows how Pony thinks Dally is a jerk, but he considers him family.Secondly, Characterization is when a character in the story or the narrator describes how a character acts or looks like. Pony describes Soda as handsome like the movie star kind. (Hinton 10). This part of characterization shows how soda could have say for example a movie star because most actors have to be handsome, but he stayed with his brothers to help them out. Pony also describes Darry as strong, confident, and too young to be running a family on his own if at all. (Hinton 10). This piece of characterization shows how Darry doesn t turn his back on his brothers and leave them he stays by their side to take care of them.Lastly, conflict is when one or more character are in an argument or are physically fighting. How Does The Namesake Show Cultural Identity Everyone struggles with identification, whether you are born and raised in one country and have shared the same cultural beliefs and norms your whole life, or whether you are born in one country and move to another that has different cultural norms and beliefs. What makes it unique to each individual is the journey one takes to figure out their own identity. The Namesake shows a beautiful journey from both his mother and Gogol s perspective. It shows a women who was taken out of a country she loved and a country she only knew, then demonstrated the journey of her son, a first generation Indian American and his struggle finding his own identity. The respect and love being shown, even from Gogol s girlfriend at the time, was a magical experience. You could see she was a little uncomfortable at first, but then Gogol s family embraced her and showed her by guiding her through the experience. This scene in the movie explored how two cultures in one country can come together and share value and practice, even if they might go about it differently. • 7. Discretion In Policing State and territory police play a pivotal role in protecting community safety and protection. Policing was a combination of national economic interests, domestic and international security, and represented in time by distinctive organizations (Chapman, 1970; Emsley, 1994). They have responsibility for peace preservation, and crime prevention as well as upholding the laws, providing assistance in personal emergencies, and coordinating and managing emergency incidents. Since the police can employ the discretionary powers, which is a flexible way to dispose of social problems, in a manner that either directs offenders to or diverts them away from, further penetration into the justice system, they are seen as the gatekeepers of the criminal justice system, model authority, and law abiding enforcement (Rob and Santina, 2015, p.348; Wortley, 2003). They seek to sustain politically defined order and ordering via tracking, surveillance, and arrest. As such, they require compliance to command from lower participants and citizens. (Peter and Jeffrey, 2015, p.246). Discretion is universal and legitimate power applied by criminal justice professionals in modern policing, which requires employing individual judgment for adjudicating whether they use a legal sanction in a particular situation (McLaughlin, 2013). ... Genetically modified farming plays a big role in food production because it s an easier way to produce food for people from all around the world. Since the population increases so rapidly, genetically modified farming brings the quickest way of producing enough food which protects the environment. The environment s not the only thing with benefits, an easier consumption of vaccines in genetically modified foods helps people s health. While some people favor non genetically modified farming to prevent possible health risks, genetically modified farming s essential to address the world s growing population, to protect the environment, and to prevent large scale illness outbreaks. Some people support non genetically modified farming because of health risks. The opposers of genetically modified farming question the safety of genetically modified crops because some believe testing hasn t been done (Dresser and Siegel). This causes problems for people who eat it (Dresser and Siegel). Approving and testing genetically modified food has been done since most people eat it today (Erdosh and Amidon). The report finds that Delta Airlines has successfully emerged from its bankruptcy in 2005 to report successful returns in both 2007 and 2008. During the integration period, Delta and Northwest will continue to operate their own branded aircraft until the integration process is complete. Pricing strategies and collusive behaviour mergers are a few dimensions of market conduct. It is the industry norm for a legacy carrier to offer service to most popular destinations; Delta reducing routes to a similar schedule as the low cost airlines is not an option in the multi billion dollar industry. • 16. Basic Concepts Of Organization Design Basic Approach to Organization Design Organizing is basically about who does what. It means defining responsibilities, building structures and developing relationships (Boutros Purdie, 2013). The main element in organization is people what they do how they work together. When organizing a new organization structure, you must be advisable on: what the organization is there to do circumstance which the activities are carried out (technology, rate of growth or change, management/style, outside environment) requirements to achieve the aim of the organization group related activities establish relationships that should exist in the organization (vertically/within functions horizontally/between functions) ensuring that everyone in the organization understands their responsibilities, authority, structure, relationships. Boutros Purdie, 2013 The process of structuring an organization is akin to building something with a box of bricks. The bricks are the key activities or groups. First thing to do is define what these bricks are. Then this is fitted together to build up a structure. There will be several ways which these bricks can be grouped together. Experimenting with alternative arrangements will help decide which pattern looks best. These could be an outcome of two to three structures (Boutros Purdie, 2013). These include the Ebola and Marburg, Lassa fever, and yellow fever virus (U.S National Library of Medicine, 2016). Garrett point out that less than a decade ago, one of the biggest problem in the world was the lack of resources available to combat the multiple scourges ravaging the world s poor and sick. The Arenaviridae are a family of virus whose members are generally associated with rodent transmitted disease in humans causing severe illnesses (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). • 18. How Water Is The Water Of The Future Essay Thousands have lived without love, but not one without water. A.H ADUEN. There cannot be life without water. Over centuries scientist have said that life began in water. Water makes up fifty percent to sixty percent of the average human body. To stay healthy, we must at least drink eight glasses of water a day, we cannot survive three days without water. As you see water is obligatory to the world; in fact, nothing on earth could survive without it. There could be no life without water. But what if one day there were no water around to drink? Why should we care about the water of the future, and what can we do to save water from decreasing? As you read through any science textbook and you ll read that water is renewable, that although it is used, it is never used up. But water usage is increasing. Although water covers three fourths of the earth, 97 percent of it is salt water, and more than two percent is frozen in glaciers and icecaps. That means less than one percent of all water on this earth is usable, while water usage per person averages 100,000 gallons per year. The world s six billion citizens are appropriating 54 percent of all the accessible fresh water. United Nations research shows that by 2025, The researchers expect 5 billion (52 percent) of the world s projected 9.7 billion people to live in water stressed areas by 2050. As a result of this procedure, the plaintiff was left with vocal cord damage that severely diminished her ability to speak above a whisper. This is supported by the reading, but plaintiff alleged she suffered paralysis of a vocal cord because of injury to the right recurrent laryngeal nerve during surgery (Showalter, 2017, pg.171). The plaintiff, Ilene Perin, filed suit against the defendant Dr. Hayne, under the guise of res ipsa loquitur, specific negligence, battery and or trespass and breach of express warranty. Hayes once said, let every man, every corporation, and especially let every village, town, and city, every county and State, get out of debt and keep out of debt. Although students seek to succeed in life and choose to further their education, the cost of colleges and universities almost seem to be exorbitant. The emotional toll of worrying about how the various expenses will be paid and covered for makes it very onerous for one to pay attention in class. To perform the truth and lie comparisons, the experimenters administered the Guilty Knowledge Task to a group of 26 college students during fMRI scanning sessions. Participants were given a set of cards and instructed to lie about a random card during the testing period. The researchers confirmed their hypotheses that the regions of interest for deception included the inferior lateral prefrontal and medial superior frontal regions. These areas contain intercortical networks responsible for attention, working memory, and response inhibition. The Concepts Of Power In Michel Foucault, Knowledge And Power Discourses have a different set of meanings, metaphors, images and stories so that together it can create a version of events and representing it in a certain structural form. Discourses make us see the world in a certain way. Each discourse has a different story about the topic in question and shows a different way of representing the topic to the world. Discourses have another suggestion for what we do every day. Discourses claim that truth and knowledge are not important and is the centre of the discussion of identity, power and change. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakespeare s illustrates this notion through the relationship between Lear and Cordelia. Initially, Lear is blinded by his own pride as he sees love as simply flattering words. Shakespeare s use of an aside for Cordelia when she states I am sure my love s more ponderous than my tongue depicts her truthfulness and honesty which serves to amplify Lear s blindness as he misunderstands her causing him to disown her and disclaim all [his] paternal care, Propinquity, and property of blood. His moral blindness ruins his relationship with Cordelia as banishes her and gives his kingdom to his other daughters, Reagan and Goneril. However, as the play progresses his vision becomes clearer as he realises Reagan and Goneril s deceitful nature, likening Regan to a vulture due to her sharp toothed unkindness. After going mad, Lear is able to see how he has faulted Cordelia and it is his reconciliation with Cordelia which signifies his partial redemption. His character development from a self absorbed king to a caring father reflects his clearer vision for what truly matters. When he slowly regains his sanity, he remembers not these garments but recognises his daughter as he tells I think this lady to be my child Cordelia. This indicates his change in values as the first thing he attempts to identify is his daughter. This is reinforced in the high modality language when Lear claims it will take a brand from heaven separate him from Cordelia. The apologetic tone when Lear tells Cordelia I ll kneel down and ask of thee forgiveness symbolises Lear s enlightenment as it exemplifies his desire to repent for his actions. Racism Through Blue Eye Analysis Racism Through Blue Eyes Throughout the earliest half of the twentieth century, the American way of life was marred with racial prejudices and acts of discrimination towards the African Americans people and their culture. Not only were people of color demonized simply on the color of their skin, but they were also made out to be a lesser human being when compared to those of more wholesome ethnic backgrounds. The fact of the matter is, racism itself is a very complex issue to discuss and analyze. In some cases, it is a deep seeded ideal that people always believe and always display. Even though the African American community has made significant contribution to society as a whole, that there are still narrow viewed people that wholeheartedly ... Presenting this short story right off the bat really gives the reader a clear message that emphasizes the things that would make a family truly a family. However, almost immediately, we are introduced to a family that is completely opposite from the ideal American family. That family, of course, would be the Breedloves. The Breedloves are the complete polar opposite of an ideal American family. They never see eye to eye on anything, never have fun times together, and always seem to have a strong disdain for each other. This can be attributed to the sense of inferiority felt by the African American people towards themselves. The Breedloves are an inferior family because they make themselves feel inferior. They make themselves feel inferior because they are treated inferiorly by their fellow people. We see this throughout the entire story. This whole principle of racial inferiority is indicative of a large scale issue that was present during the years of strife for Civil rights throughout the twentieth century. Why would Black people feel inferior? Because, at that time, they were made out to be inferior in more ways than one. How should one feel when they are not even made out to be enough of a human being to sit in the front of a bus, or use the same water fountain, or even go to school in the same building as Caucasians? Column oriented organizations are more efficient when an aggregate needs to be computed over many rows but only for a notably smaller subset of all columns of data, because reading that smaller subset of data can be faster than reading all data. 2. Column oriented organizations are more efficient when new values of a column are supplied for all rows at once, because that column data can be written efficiently and replace old column data without touching any other columns for the rows. 3. The most well known culture for preserving the dead with mummification were the ancient Egyptians. Although mummification existed before the Egyptians with mummies from northern Chile, the Egyptians were focused on the prospect of eternal life, which meant preserving the body for life. The earliest process of mummification took place as early as 3000 BC. Special priests worked as embalmers, caring for and wrapping the body. Beyond knowing the correct rituals and prayers to be performed at various stages, the priests also needed a detailed knowledge of human anatomy. The first step in the process was to remove all internal parts that might decay quickly. The brain was removed by carefully inserting special hooked instruments up through the nostrils in order to pull out bits of brain tissue. It was a hard job, one which a wrong move could easily disfigure the face. The priest then removed the organs of the gut and chest through a cut usually made on the left side of the abdomen, (except the heart) and stored in canopic jars. The skulls of the dead would then be filled with a thick plant paste. It wasn t until the Middle Kingdom(2050 BC and 1652 BC) that the process began to take on a more advanced form. After removing organs and the brain ,the caretakers would use natural salts to remove moisture from the bodies of the dead, drying out flesh and bone. The emptied bodies were then covered in salt to ... • 48. The Book Of Judges Judges: What, Where, When, Why, Who? The Hebrew word for Judge is ‫שופט‬ (Shofet). In the biblical sense, the word judge carries a much different connotation than what may be known in today s society. The Judges of the Old Testament were not Judges of the law ruling over courtrooms. The title Judge was derived from the sense of judging over Israel. Judges were looked at as selected rulers, leaders, and temporary special deliverers. They were sent by G D with the purpose of liberating the Israelites from the hands of their oppressors; whoever that happens to be at the time. The way it is described by the Deuteronomic source is that anyone who applied G D s judgment to foes of Israel is to be considered a Judge. As read in the Hebrew Bible: judging is defined as standing up for the oppressed: twelve individuals meet the requirements of being considered a Judge. The twelve Judges are made up of Othniel, Ehud, Shamgar, Deborah, Gideon, Tola, Jair, Jephthah, Ibzam, Elon, Abdon, and Samson; however, not all Judges are given equal attention.
