Total War During World War II
Definition:
What is meant by the concept of Total War? Total war is best described as a country s 100% effort. All
means of production and accomplishment are geared towards what is the best way to win a war.
How was WWII the maximum example of Total War? Most Allies and Axis countries, namely
Germany, had geared their economy towards pouring all their resources into the attempt of winning
the war. In no other war was this done as much as it was during World War II.
Mass Produced Warfare:
Compare the military production of the various major Allied and Axis powers during WWII. What
observations can you make about the outcome of the war based on this information? There are many
ways of defining military production, but in the broadest way, ... Show more content on

By not taking in other factors, and by looking at production amounts only, it is obvious that the Allies
would win. There was no means of resources that the Axis powers excelled in, and had few people
who fought in the war. Both sides of the war had at this time undergone industrial revolutions, had at
least somewhat equal caliber machinery. This means that it would be almost physically impossible for
the Axis to defeat the Allies.
Strategic Bombing:
What do the websites say about the effectiveness of bombing campaigns in disrupting the war effort of
the Axis during WWII? According to the majority of the information on the websites, the bombing
campaigns put in place by the Allies were not very effective. The main goal of the bombing campaigns
were to break the morale of the Axis citizens, specifically Germany. This was done by instead of fully
wiping out cities, leaving them only half damaged to show the power of the armies. However, these
bombings did little to no damage to the will of Germans. People still were willing to support the Nazi
cause. The German economy was very much destroyed, thanks to the bombing efforts, but military
production was still proceeding, as the Germans were prepared for the Total War involved. It is also
stated that as a result of the bombings, Germany s mobility was shrunken, as they could not move as
fast as they wanted.
What about the collateral damage involved? The amount of collateral damage that the

William Gibson s The Miracle Worker
In the book The Miracle Worker by William Gibson, Gibson utilizes diverse dramatic technique, props
and finger spelling in order to represent the internal and external conflicts between Helen Keller, and
Annie Sullivan throughout the play. Annie, the miracle worker who used to be blind has an external
conflict with Helen, who is blind, deaf, and partly mute. However, throughout the act, the relationship
starts to build and develops to a happy ending. Annie, who lost her loving brother Jimmie, suffers
from flashbacks which she cannot easily overcome the tragic memories. However, throughout the
book, Annie starts to overcome the bad memories by the interaction with Helen. In act 1, the external
conflict between Helen and Annie is significantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Annie! Annie, don t let them take me Annie!...But this voice is real, in the present, and Annie comes
up out of her horror, clearing her head with a final shake (22). This depicts Annie s painful memories
about her dead brother Jimmie on the past. It is inferable that Jimmie was taken from some stranger
and this was a very horrible event for Annie since the bad memory even comes out in her dream.
Addition to that it is also inferable that Annie regrets herself for not saving her brother no matter how
bad her condition was also. The memory of the tragic past remains to be her inner conflict. I crawled
in her like a drowned rat, I thought I died when Jimmie died, that I d Never again come alive. (20).
This quote is another example of Annie s tragic memory of the moment when Jimmie died but she got
to continue with her living. For Annie, this memory of her loving brother dead will be never be
forgotten in her life. This inner conflict which Annie will carry through her whole life leads her to be
more perseverance and caring characteristics when educating Helen to communicate. In act 2, Annie
continues with her inner conflict of flashback of her brother Jimmie, but she now gets stronger to
overcome the past experience. You said we ll be together, forever and ever and ever...Goodbye
Annie...Annie. It hurts, to be dead. Forever. (68 69). This creates an inner

How Bill Gates Has The World s Most Successful Man
Bill Gates has always been known for being one of the world s most successful man. It is largely
known that he, with Steve Ballmer, created Microsoft both the software and the company. Microsoft is
one of the world s most popular computer software companies that was created by Gates and Ballmer
in 1972 at least that s when the idea was formed. But what many people don t know or don t realize is
that fact that both Ballmer and Gates were college dropouts. They weren t dropouts from just any
college, though, but from Harvard University. Now, Gates often jokes about how he is, according to
Crimson, Harvard s most successful dropout . In his 2007 Harvard Commencement Address, Gates
uses three key factors to make his speech a greatly memorable one. He used humor, seriousness, and
motivation all in an adequate way that helped his speech be one for the books.
For example, after addressing the listeners, Gates uses the following quote to open up his speech and
hook his listeners attention; I ve been waiting more than 30 years to say this: Dad, I always told you I
d come back and get my degree . That immediately results in laughter from the crowd. From then on,
the humor and laughter continues for the majority of the opening. Gates proceeds to joke about how
Crimson s quote makes me (Gates) valedictorian of my (Gates) own special class...I (Gates) did the
best of everyone who failed . He also jokingly says how he is a bad influence and that is why he was

All God s Children By Fox Butterfield Essay
All God s Children by Fox Butterfield is a stunning story about a teenage murderer, Willie James
Bosket, and the heritage of violence within his family. Through some incredibly creative and thorough
research, Butterfield traces Willie s family back to the Deep South where they had been slaves and
provides in depth portrayals of each family member in order to give a comprehensive historical
overview through each generation. The pattern of violence and its connection to the culture of the
South makes a very compelling case for the values of the antebellum South, as they translate to a
modern urban environment, where drugs and guns are readily available, and hope is fleeting, as a root
cause in our culture s creation of violent sociopathic children like Willie Bosket. Author James
Baldwin told an audience at a benefit for the reform school attended by the Boskets: ``These are all
our children. We will profit by, or pay for, whatever they become. His words are quoted at the
beginning of the book and are particularly powerful since they were said at the Wiltwyck School for
Boys. The trafficking of slaves in South Carolina was huge, which created a society based on
bondage. The vast force needed to run such a society was a major contributor to violence in the South.
Slaves were treated brutally, for example the standard number of lashes for a whipping was thirty
nine, which was based on an old biblical injunction, but some masters whipped their slaves more

The History of Boeing Company
Company History:
The Boeing Company is the largest aerospace company in the world, thanks to its 1997 merger with
McDonnell Douglas Corporation and its 1996 purchase of the defense and space units of Rockwell
International Corporation. The corporation is the world s number one maker of commercial jetliners
and military aircraft. Boeing has more than 9,000 commercial aircraft in service worldwide, including
the 717 through 777 families of jets and the MD 80, MD 90, and MD 11. In the defense sector, the
company makes military aircraft, including fighter, transport, and attack aircraft; helicopters; and

Boeing also purchased Varney Airlines, which began operation in 1925 and won almost every mail
contract it applied for until it became overextended and had financial difficulties.
1929 34: United Era
With the addition of National Air Transport, Boeing s airline holdings formed the original United Air
Lines. In 1928 all these companies were organized under a holding company called the Boeing
Aircraft and Transportation Company. In 1929 a larger holding company was formed, the United
Aircraft and Transportation Company. Included in this group were the United airlines and Stout
Airlines; Pratt Whitney (engines); Boeing, Sikorsky, Northrop, and Stearman (manufacturers); and
Standard Steel Prop and Hamilton Aero Manufacturing (propellers). Boeing was made chairman of the
company and Fred Rentschler of Pratt Whitney was named president.
Boeing and Rentschler became extremely wealthy in this reorganization by exchanging stock with the
holding company in a method similar to J.P. Morgan s controversial capital manipulation. They
multiplied their original investments by a factor of as much as 200,000 times. It was, however, entirely
legal at the time. In 1933 the government conducted an investigation of fraud and other illegal
practices in the airline industry. Boeing was called upon to testify and explain his windfall profits

Mike Tyson Ethical Dilemmas
A public error causes for a public apology. In athletics, ethical errors are made and must be apologized
for as shown by Mike Tyson. On June 28th in 1997, Mike Tyson bit two chunks of Evander Holyfield
s ears off in a title boxing match in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada (Weinberg).
Tyson publicly apologized two days later in a news conference and on October 16th in 2009 in an
interview with Oprah Winfrey and Evander Holyfield (Fonzy Foo, Oprah.com). On the June 30th
1997 news conference, Mike Tyson read off of a paper. Tyson thanked everybody for the opportunity
to apologize and said that the event was the worst in his professional boxing career. Tyson said that he
snapped and had never done anything like this before and would never do it again. Tyson apologized
to his family; to the regulators of the fight, the Nevada State Athletic Commission; to his rape case
judge, Patricia Gifford; the place the fight occurred, MGM; the channel that broadcasted the fight,
Showtime; his promoter, Don King; his boxing team; and the city of Las Vegas. Tyson explained that
when Evander Holyfield head butted him, he thought that he might lose the fight due to the severity of
the cut above his eye, so he snapped. Fistfights in basketball, riots in baseball, and spitting on officials
were some examples Tyson listed of athletes losing it. Tyson explained that these athletes were

esteemed fighter. Tyson then shook Holyfield s hand and said that it was good being acquainted with

Endangered Sophie Sparknotes
Endangered The book Endangered is about the journey of survival and the connection between a
young American girl (Sophie) and a bonobo monkey (Otto) in The Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Sophie s mother lives in the Congo and runs a bonobo sanctuary. While on her way to the sanctuary to
visit her mother for the summer, Sophie sees a man on the side of the road with a bonobo. She notices
how malnourished and how bad the bonobo looks and against the rules of her mother, Sophie
purchases the bonobo. When she reaches the sanctuary her mother is upset because even though she
had good intentions of saving the bonobos life, bargaining with the man Sophie inadvertently
promoted the illegal sale of the endangered bonobos. While at the sanctuary Sophie struggles to

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has had many conflicts. The people of the country are poor,
but interest is shown in the country because of mining. When war did break out the rebels enslaved
and took people to work in the mines. Also, with the status of the country, the bonobos are becoming
more and more endangered. This is in part because of poverty. The bonobos are being poached and
killed for their meat and people even use their body parts because of superstitions. On top of this, the
bonobo s are also losing their habitat. With an increase in a growing population more land is
demanded taking from the bonobos. Logging companies are pushing further and further leaving the
bonobos at risk for losing their habitat.
Overall I enjoyed the book. I understand that this story is fictional, but a lot of the references reflect
real life in the Congo. The country with a complicated past and the turmoil that can still be seen today.
It is fitting that Eliot Schrefer titled this book Endangered. It can make reference to the dwindling
numbers of the bonobos, but also to Sophie s exposure to danger while in the

Effects Of Rms On The Weekly Calls
As RMS continues to indicate, based on our observations and more importantly on the review of
assets during our weekly calls with Altisource, RMS continues to believe on many of these assets, the
condition or location of the property is the primary driver behind not only the large reduction in list
price, but ultimately a sales price well below the initial list price, all of which contribute to extended
days on market and an increase in carrying costs incurred by the Trust. We believe one of the
contributors to this relates to the Altisource process where the listing agent is not local to the property
and typically has not personally visited the asset to assess the condition, the location, drive by the
comps and generally may not be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because Altisource cannot be directed to set the list price of an asset, RMS attempts to get Altisource
to recognize assets that are listed too high and to make appropriate adjustments that will generate
activity and offers.
RMS continues to review assets where we believe the list price set by Altisource is high relative to our
opinion of market value. On listed assets with DOM of more than 60 days, RMS and Altisource
discuss the list price and agent feedback to understand why purchase offers have not been received.
RMS targets these assets for review every 2 weeks.
Another recent observation is an increase in the number of assets in pending contract that fall out
because the buyer fails to return the purchase agreement. This trend has continued to increase over the
past several months. Although Altisource does not provide statistics regarding overall fallout, RMS
has seen an increase based on our observations and the weekly calls. We believe this relates to the
process by which Altisource sells REO assets (on the HUBZU website), where there is no economic
penalty to the bidder if they place an offer on a property but fail to deliver an executed purchase
agreement (similar to what would happen in a traditional sale transaction). In addition, we believe the
lack of agent to agent contact and knowledge of whether a buyer visits the property prior to making an
offer also play a role in the increased fallout. Altisource reports

The Consequences Of Soil Diversity
The human population is projected to reach 10 billion by 2050. This growth will demand almost twice
of currently globally produced agricultural products. However, long periods of intensive agriculture
have resulted in soil nutrient depletion, salinity accumulation, and acidification of agricultural soils,
resulting in an overall reduction of the soil s ability to support a growing population (Godfray et al.,
2010; Smith et al., 2013, Tillman et al 2011, Ray et al 2013). Despite the fact that soil is one of the
mankind s most essential and threatened resources, supporting food production, wildlife biodiversity,

We Choose To Go To The American Spirit Speech Summary
John F. Kennedy s Passionate Appeal to the American Spirit: We Choose to Go to the Moon On
September 12, 1962, John F. Kennedy gave a rhetorically sound speech at Rice University in Houston,
Texas with the intent to rally American support for his space exploration proposition. Kennedy had
proposed his plan to congress a couple months before and this speech was his call to the American
people to stand behind him. While the speech is remembered for its famous line, We choose to go to
the moon, it was a carefully constructed piece of rhetoric. Kennedy s immediate audience extends
beyond the people that were in Rice Stadium that day. His message was intended for the entire
American populace as both a way of informing the people about his plan for space exploration and ...

Kennedy utilizes a form of the known new contract towards the beginning of his speech to show the
audience where they stand in reference to history while creating a sense of urgency. In his approach to
the known new contract, Kennedy conveys where America has been and where America is going.
Kennedy first conveys America s scientific position by stating, Despite the striking fact that most of
the scientists that the world has ever known are alive and working today... the unanswered and the
unfinished still far outstrip our collective comprehension. While the first sentence could have been
worded better to express that there are more scientists active than ever before, this section of the
speech conveys that America has many unanswered questions, but it also has the scientific manpower
to answer these questions in order to make space travel a reality. As Kennedy progresses, he
condenses human history into a 50 year timespan with an emphasis on scientific advancements in
order to give the audience perspective by establishing where humankind has been. As he goes from the

Chem B Experiment Lab Report
The purpose of this lab was to experimentally and scientifically ascertain the percentage of oxygen in
Chem B at Woonsocket High School. It was hypothesized that if the percentage of oxygen is measured
experimentally in Chem B at Woonsocket High School, then it would be higher than the percentage of
oxygen in dry air, which is 20.95%, because the air is not dry due to moisture in the air from people
breathing and the altitude of where the experiment takes place may affect it as well.
To conduct this experiment, a candle was placed upright in a pan of water, was lit, and the flame was
allowed to fully develop. Then a graduated cylinder was placed upside down to represent an airtight
chamber, and the water rose. The point where it rose to was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The number of people in the room, contributing to the humidity, is one of the contributing factors to
the change in percentages of oxygen. The condensation of a person s exhaled breath is a factor that
also minimally contributes to the humidity in the atmosphere. Humidity is the amount of water vapor
in the air at any given moment. When a person exhales, it marginally impacts the relative humidity,
and, due to common sense, if there is more people in the room, there is a greater level of humidity.
The percentage of oxygen in dry air is 20.95%. However, the air is not always dry. Thus, the
percentage of oxygen cannot always be the same if humidity is always changing. Furthermore, dew
point temperature is the absolute measure of the amount of water vapor present in the air. So, if the
temperature is higher, it can hold more water vapor, making warmer climates much more humid than
cooler climates. So, the temperature in the room is also an indirect contributing factor to the
percentage of oxygen in the air. The distance above sea level is thought to potentially affect the
percentages of oxygen. Nonetheless, it has been established that the percentage of oxygen molecules
is always the same when considering altitude. This is because air is compressible, so the weight of all
the air above applies pressure to the air at that particular altitude, making that air at

`` True Freedom `` By Langston Hughes
America is known as the land of the free, but is anyone really free? One might view freedom as
abolished slavery, but true freedom gives one the ability to make choices and act on decisions. True
freedom might be gained through lessons learned from history, from accomplishing and seeing dreams
become reality, or from standing up for beliefs. Langston Hughes, an American poet known for his
writing during the Harlem Renaissance period said, In all my life, I have never been free. I have never
been able to do anything with freedom, except in the field of my writing. (citation). As a young
African American man, Hughes faced man obstacles, but writing gave him a sense of freedom of
expression. His poetry reached people of various social, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People of all nations and beliefs have the right to experience freedom from injustice and to live in
peace and equality no matter what they look like or believe. In the line, I ve seen its muddy bosom
turn all golden in the sunset, (cite) Hughes use of the words muddy bosom symbolizes brown skin.
Although some may not see the beauty in the muddiness, rivers can turn golden or beautiful in the
sunset. If people would take the time to get to know others and not judge them by their outward
appearance, they could see the beauty within the soul. Like rivers, people have a past that helped
shape them. Each person, like a river has deep roots, perseverance, and a need for freedom and
understanding. Rivers are confined by land as people are confined by laws, but just as rivers can
change course, people can change society. Langston Hughes, like the rivers in The Negro Speaks of
Rivers, preserved in the face of adversity as he forged new streams of thought.
In Harlem, another example of the struggle for true freedom is represented as Langston Hughes
questions, What happens to a dream deferred? (cite) Hughes explores the reality of what happens to
people when they are unable to accomplish

The Wicker Man Essay
Filled with mystery and thriller, The Wicker Man is one of the strangest yet interesting films out there.
In the film, the story takes place on a small private island off of Washington where Nicholas Cage s
character, Edward Malus, is looking for his daughter who had vanished. It is filled with twists and
turns throughout the film, making it interesting and entertaining. I felt as if the film was well made

Edward Malus, a police man in Washington, has been experiencing strange dreams and hallucinations
since a car crash occurred after he had pulled a woman and her daughter over. He later receives a letter
from his ex fiancé, Willow, telling him that her daughter, Rowan, (later finding she was his child) has
gone missing and asks him for his help to find her. After arriving to the small secluded island, he
meets some of the local residents and starts to have bad feelings about whole community, especially
when they were not being helpful. Malus finds clues on what could of possible happened to their

Cultural Competence And Health Care Workers Get The Same...
Article Review Brittany Loy Nebraska Methodist College Miscommunication, medication errors, and
lack of compliance commonly occur in the healthcare field. These are just a few of the errors that
occur due to the patient being from a different culture than the physician or healthcare worker. Those
three errors alone have a huge impact on our healthcare today. If we could have a better understanding
of other cultures that are different from our own we could have a dramatic decrease in errors and a
great increase in healthcare participation. Training must be completed and must be done in more than
one way. The first step is to make sure that all physicians and health care workers get the same
nationwide training that focuses on improving cultural competence. How this is completed must be
done in more than one way (Horwitz, 2001). The goal in fixing/decreasing this issue is to make sure
the team has cultural competence. Cultural competence in healthcare has been operationalized as the
ability to provide high quality care for patients with diverse values, beliefs, and behaviors, including
the customization of service delivery and administration to meet the patients social and cultural needs
(Anderson, 2003). Up until recently, medical schools did not fit this concept into its teaching, which is
an issue for doctors who are older, as they were not taught the importance of this. It s very important
to fix this situation, errors, and assumptions about the

E-Si Testing Essay
A new and rather positive trend for safe sex in the U.K. has manifested as Britons are now availing
themselves of at home testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). They rely on kits that they
order online, and these kits are predicted to raise the rate of uptakes according to researchers who have
studied this phenomenon as it continues to proliferate. The same measures could be taken in the U.S.
and likely benefit Americans greatly in light of the rampant uptick in STIs partly due to online dating
services.
Researchers conducted a randomized trial that involved 2,000 participants in London, and they found
STI testing uptake to be higher at the six week mark for those who used so called e STI testing
methods than for those who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also all had access to Internet. Participants were randomized to produce one control group
among them who were all texted the locales and contact information for seven different sexual health
clinics in the area, but they were also texted a link to an e STI testing site via SH:24, a service used for
specifically this purpose.
The team found 2.8 percent of participants in the intervention group to have an STI in contrast with
the control group s 1.4 percent. About 1.1 percent of the intervention group received treatment, and
0.7 percent of the control group was treated. Of those who completed the STI test by the six week
milestone, 4.3 percent proved positive for an STI in the e STI group as opposed to the 4.6 percent in
the control group. As sexual health services develop we would like to see further work aligning online
and clinic based services, according to Paula Baraitser, another author on the study but from Kings
College London.
Going forward, we advise joint commissioning of these different modalities of care to ensure that
users are able to move easily from one to another according to their healthcare needs, allowing
continuity of care, Baraitser explains. A similar study and likely the same proposal for the U.S. could
reasonably be implemented as a way to curtail the parallel uptick in STIs. At present, a map put

Anne Moody s Coming of Age in Mississippi Essay
Anne Moody s Coming of Age in Mississippi
Coming of Age in Mississippi is the amazing story of Anne Moody s unbreakable spirit and character
throughout the first twenty three years of her life. Time and time again she speaks of unthinkable odds
and conditions and how she manages to keep excelling in her aspirations, yet she ends the book with a
tone of hesitation, fear, and skepticism. While she continually fought the tide of society and her elders,
suddenly in the end she is speaking as if it all may have been for not. It doesn?t take a literary genius
nor a psychology major to figure out why. With all that was stacked against her cause, time and time
again, it is easy to see why she would doubt the future of the civil rights ... Show more content on

Her entire time spent in Canton is met with little support, if not disgust, by whites as well as blacks.
While the county is primarily black citizens, they still remain submissive to the white citizens in the
area. This truly confuses and annoys Moody. She is looked upon with contempt by nearly all of the
elder blacks, and can only seem to reach a small number of teenagers. This is when she privately
realizes that if a change is to come, it has to come with the younger generations, not with the older.
She again refers to the elder blacks as brainwashed and afraid to take what is theirs. The blacks in the
county held nearly half the land, yet most were barely doing well enough to feed their families. She
seems to initially think that the inferior thinking is only prominent in Centerville and Woodville, but
when she realizes that this same mentality is present in Canton as well as all other parts of Mississippi,
as well as New Orleans, this is only another nail in the coffin of her dream.
Aside from the mentality with which situations were dealt with, the events that occurred to Moody
were also quite devastating. The death of Medgar Evans, the leader of the NAACP, the bombing of the
Sunday school class directly after the march on Washington, the open beating of McKinley during the
demonstration in Canton are only a few events which caused her to question what it was all worth.

Conflict Resolution Styles
Abstract We deal with conflict on a daily basis, whether it is in our personal lives or professionally.
Learning how we, as individuals, best approach conflict resolution will allow us to become better
mediators in managerial positions. Also, taking into consideration the different types of conflict
resolution styles will help us learn what those individual needs are and gain a better understanding of
where the perspective their concerns come from. Managing conflict styles, understanding why conflict
occurred, how to move forward, how conflict is perceived, coping with conflict and communication
are extremely important in understanding the journey to a positive outcome where conflict is
concerned. Introduction There are five different responsive approaches to conflict management styles

The Evolution Of Flightless Birds
Evolution occurs when an animal species develops new bodily structures and functions in order to
adapt to their new environment. These developments are seen as positive adaptations that enhances
survival. However, some animal species have lost these new developments. Based on the geographic
location and climate, some evolutionary developments that are no longer needed are lost due to the
fact that the new bodily structure itself does not enhance the chance of survival in a particular
environment (Kirchman 2009; Vieites, et al. 2009). In most cases these lost developments are passed
down through future generations and are never redeveloped. However, more information is needed to
decide whether or not the loss of these evolutionary developments was due to natural selection or by
random mutation over years (Wilkens and Strecker 2003). In this paper, I will examine three studies
from a diversity of taxa, which illustrate the history of flightless birds, how climate has influenced the
evolution of salamanders and how life lived in darkness has influenced the blindness in cave fish.
Together these studies depict how these evolutionary abilities are lost and their affects on the animal
species.
Krichman (2009) examined the ancestry of flightless birds (Gallirallus philippenesis) through the
usage of genetic testing that were sampled throughout a range of ancestral species. This was to test a
model of speciation where flightless birds were thought to have evolved from flying birds

Essay on Pros and Cons of Raising the Minimum Wage
Pros and Cons of Raising the Minimum Wage When you picture a minimum wage worker, who do
you picture? Do you see a sixteen year old, a middle aged mother, a college graduate, or even a senior
citizen worker? In September of 2013, California governor Jerry Brown signed a new bill into act that
would cause the California minimum wage to rise from the current $8.00 and hour to $10.00 and hour
in increments over the next three years. The minimum wage rate will go up in two separate $1.00
boosts. The first will change the rate from $8.00 to $9.00 in July of 2014, and the second increase, to
$10.00, in January 2016. In this paper, I will discuss, compare, and weigh the pros and cons of the

These results, at least to myself, are not shocking but are helpful when looking at who this minimum
wage increase will be affecting. Once the minimum wage goes up will employers be able to
successfully employ the same amount of workers as when the minimum wage was lower or will they
be able to higher on new workers as they need them? This is one of the concerns of many in regards to
the minimum wage increase. In Sanja Blazevic s article, Is Employment Decreasing Due to Minimum
Wage Increase? , Sanja explains that many economists believe that a minimum wage increase causes
most age groups of minimum wage workers to suffer. This is caused by jobs becoming more scarce
after employers want to employ fewer people since they are being forced to pay them more than they
would prefer to. Young workers (25 29) seeking a job of a minimum wage could see unemployment
rise to close to 10% during a minimum wage hike (Blazevic) creating a significant unemployment
problem. Other age ranges saw similar but not as extreme level of unemployment with a higher
minimum wage. The only benefiting age range was that of those working for the minimum wage at
the age of 60 65. This benefiting group however cannot outweigh the majority of those who face
higher unemployment during a minimum wage hike. Sanja also brings up the fact that once the
minimum wage increases it will leave a smaller wage gap

transforming a mathematical term into a popular verb used in daily conversations for research and web

chronology of events associated with the early beginnings in The Google Story. The story tends to
follow a similar tone and theme to the movie Pirates of Silicon Valley, but with less drama and
industrial espionage. The founders are portrayed as the rock stars of the technology world. The book
details the early lives of Sergey Brin and Larry Page, beginning when they met as computer science
doctoral students at Stanford University. Ironically, the derivation of the company s name, (googol,

Leadership In The Last American Man
Following Footsteps: Leadership in The Last American Man
Parents set the perfect example of leadership while raising their own children, making their kids the
priorities of their lives by being able to protect and love them through any given situation. In addition,
many parents strive to make their children like themselves because nothing would be better than a
parent seeing another human being walking in their own footsteps. However, some parents push their
children to become exactly like them, making their own dreams come true through their child. This
makes it hard for the child to grow up and become an independent person because they are too busy

Beethoven s Violin Concerto
Ludwig van Beethoven is considered one of the greatest and most influential composers in the history
of music. His Violin Concerto in D Major has been played by nearly every soloist in the past 150 years
and, today, it is one of the major works in violin repertoire. Since its premiere by Franz Clement in the
winter of 1806, many aspects of the violin, bow, and performance have undergone changes. This paper
discusses the modern day knowledge of Beethoven s Violin Concerto, and how it is influencing the
way violinists interpret and perform the concerto. It also points out some of the different performance
styles starting from Clement s time to the present day. Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 1827) was born

Joachim also composed two cadenzas for the concerto, but most players today choose the Viennese
violinist Fritz Kreisler s cadenzas from the 1920 s.8 When Beethoven was writing the Violin
Concerto, orchestral instruments were very similar to those used in Haydn s and Mozart s time.9
During the 19th century, violin luthiers were trying to recreate Italian Stradivari and Guarneri models,
including the most famous luthier in Germany during Beethoven s time. Rode, Kruetzer, Baillot, all
alive during Beethoven s time period, were known to play on Stradivarius violins, with pernambuco
wood bows that were of the Tourte style.10 François Tourte was the most innovative bow maker of all
times, and he invented the modern bow, which produced a bigger sound, and allowed for a new galaxy
of bow techniques. All subsequent bows have been variations of the Tourte style. Violins during
Beethoven s time used gut strings, made from sheep or goat intestines. It produced a softer, darker
sound than that of modern strings made of metal and synthetic materials, introduced around the third
quarter of the 19th century. Other changes to the violin after Beethoven s time include the use of the
chin and shoulder rests, which were created by the violinist Louis Spohr (1784 1859). The chin rest
lifts the the chin above the violin, so that it does not have to touch the violin top, allowing it resonate

pederasts were adult males, usually socially prominent, who have an erotic attraction to adolescent

The Islamic Revolution in 1979 in Iran, followed by the Iranian Hostage Crisis began straining Iranian
United States diplomatic relationships. This strained relationship was further complicated by the
beginning of a proxy war with Israel in the early 1980s. The proxy war between Iran and Israel
stemmed from Iran s support of organizations that Israel considered a threat to their country and
deemed them terrorist organizations. Since this time, Iran and Israel have not been on good terms. The
re election of President Ahmadinejad in 2009 sparked an attempted revolt against the Iranian
government by factions that believed that the election was rigged. However, the revolution did not last
long before the government silenced the uprising and restored order. The beginning of the Yemen
Crisis in 2011 we see Iran begin funding proxy force, the Houthis, against the legitimate government.
In 2012, we see Iran aligning with the Assad regime in Syria as the Syrian Civil War begins in order to

Human geography is the study of spatial characteristics of humans and human activities.
Cartographers use maps in order to display human geography and all of the characteristics behind it.
Many people rely on maps on a day to day basis. These visual aids are used for reference tools,

Historiography Of The British Empire
Any historiography of The British Raj must first start with the understanding that The British Raj fits
within the broader historic concept of The British Empire. In the late 19th Century, many historians
proposed that the history of The British Empire could be broken down into The First British Empire
and The Second British Empire. The British Raj falls within the category of The Second British
Empire within this view. The previous British involvement in India, via The East India Company,
would largely fall within First British Empire. The opinions of historians, not any official decree by
British law or authorities, are the basis for the concept of multiple periods of The British Empire.
There was never an official start, or end date, for either period of empire. The British Empire was
never an official entity, as in there was not a document or constitution dictating how it was
administered. As a result, the colonial administrations varied depending on the colony to which they
belonged. The views on The British Empire, during its height, were not a single monolithic view
shared by all British citizens, but varied across the full spectrum from unwavering support to strong
opposition. Joseph Chamberlain s 1897 book The True Conception of Empire provides an excellent
quote that sums up a common mindset of the era. We feel now that our rule over these territories can
only be justified if we can show that it adds to the happiness and prosperity of the people,

My Favorite Flower Essay
I have currently been building a life in the deep parts of the tropical rainforest. Things here are very
different from home. They don t have regular seasons here like places normally do. Spring, summer,
fall, and winter are non existent; instead, they have wet seasons and dry seasons. Both wet and dry last
6 months each. The wet season lasts from December May, and gets 6 12 feet of rain during this
period! The dry season lasts from June August, and gets about 6 inches of rain. Most of the time when
you imagine the rainforest in your head you see bright colored flowers, and exotic plants. The
agriculture here is nothing less than how you picture it. One plant the forest produces that is a
common favorite, is the coconut tree. The palms grow rapidly so they can consume the most sun
possible. The spreading of the seeds help species with daily survival. Another plant that really catches
the eye is the Hot Lips. It is a vibrant red colored flower that lives under the canopy in the rainforest.
Birds are attracted to the flower by its bright color. This brings them to pollinate and disperse seeds.
My personal favorite is the passion flower. This is a pink, yellow, maroon, and white blossom that
grows with the vines in the canopy. It gets the name passion because of the rings of nectar. The ring of
nectar looks like the crown of thorns that Jesus wore during the crucifixion. Wildlife in the rainforest
is the most phenomenal thing of all. There are so many different species of

a) Trends and Projections Today s on line travel market is succeeding because the companies are using
a more software centric, online business model termed E commerce. This has become the popular
avenue for businesses as it mirrors the ideas of mobility. The sheer amount of data available, coupled
with the advanced operating systems and social media platforms, have created new possibilities for E
commerce organizations. The infrastructure of E commerce has expanded into platforms such as peer
to peer networking, crowd sourcing, social websites, and mobile devices and media. E commerce
trends are findings ways to incorporate every aspect of our daily lives into an online package
associated with our everyday needs (Fishbein, 2013). Following the invention of Online Transaction
Processing (OLTP), primarily used by the airline, banking, and retail industries during the late 1960s,
the introduction of E Commerce progressed towards a global enterprise design which incorporated
commerce for web, mobile and the business to customer and business to business models. Such
designs became more useful as they increased the ability to manage and provide powerful tools to aid
potential customers with searching, merchandising, master data management, order management, and
web content management. Such designs present a great benefit to companies because the platforms

The House in Peru Essays
As I approached the front porch, to the right of the porch was a small garden, which was located
below a window, and both the front porch and the garden were covered by a big, pointy fence. To my
left the garage door would stand, which I ve never seen open. Finally in between the garden and the
garage stood a door. The door lead to my excitement, so I rushed up to the front porch, opening the
gate and walking up 2 big steps, to awaiting my grandmother standing by the door, waiting to greed
me. My grandparents home was the most important thing in my life, this place is all I recognize from
the time I lived in Peru. I left Peru when I was 6 years old, and after a long haul of six years, I visited
my grandparent s place. When I went back ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I recall playing with her under the couch, or in her room. But even though it seemed like Graisy would
live forever, she sadly passed away on May 2013. When I heard that she perished, a part of my
childhood shattered from my memories. Another thought that brings me back to the old house would
be my grandmother s marketplace. Her store was always fulfilled with sweets and she would grand me
spare candy every so often. When I woke from my dreams I would go to the marketplace to greed her.
If she wasn t there, then she would be in the kitchen preparing breakfast. All these memories are from
my youth. These stories are what I told my friends about, this was my past, my memories. In 2010 I
visited my grandparent s place, they were very thrilled to see my family growing up, their smiles is
what makes me keep moving through my struggles in life. I want to make my grandparents proud, and
I want them to smile every time I come back. Seeing their smiles made me realize how important they
are to me. It wasn t the marketplace that I commemorate but it was my grandmother who I awaited. It
wasn t the couch that I looked for, it was the dog who sat under it. After living in United States and
coming back to Peru I realized that my grandparents lived in a very indigent neighborhood, but yet I
see their home to be the wealthiest. A part that I don t recall as a child was the second floor, which

Sonny Corleone s Injustice In The Film, The Godfather
The Godfather In the chosen scene, we see Sonny Corleone heading home after an incident where he
threatens his brother in law with death if he continues to abuse the sister of Sonny. On his drive back,
he stops at a toll booth; however, cars pull up behind him, and to each side boxing him in. The
passengers of all 3 vehicles open fire on Sonny resulting in his tragic death. I believe that this scene in
particular helps to embody the movie as a whole due to its tragic and violent nature. For instance,
earlier in the movie Don Corleon attempts to help his Godson, Johnny Fontane, by influencing an
abrasive studio yet through the death of his prized stallion. However, a few scenes afterwards it can be
seen that outside forces conspire to box the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that this scene in particular truly captures the devastation, destruction and sadness that the
true attack brought on both in reality and in the fictionalized account created within the movie. The
pain, the sorrow and the desire for revenge that is reflected in the eyes and faces of the attendees helps
to set the stage for the subsequent scenes in the movie where the bombing run on Japan occurs. While
I do have to admit that there are an assortment of better scenes in the movie such as the scene where
Danny dies and tells Rafe with his last breath that Rafe will be a father or the ending scene where Rafe
and his young son ride off in a small plane, the fact remains that these scenes could be attributed to
any other fictional movie while the memorial scene truly embodies the spirit of Pearl

The Great Influenza Rhetorical Analysis
Brilliant author, John M. Barry, once proclaimed, Uncertainty makes one tentative if not fearful, and
tentative steps, even when in the right direction, may not overcome significant obstacles... It is the
courage to accept indeed, embrace uncertainty (Barry 3 5 9 10). These quotes can be traced back to
John M. Barry s passage of The Great Influenza, where he writes an account about the 1918 flu
epidemic that struck the world. In his account, he goes into further explanation about the rigors and
fulfillment of being a scientist, and simultaneously, discusses the tedious process of their research.
Ultimately, society is educated that the life of a scientist should not be absolute, but it should consist
of persistence and courage. In John M. Barry s The Great Influenza, the author employs innovative
metaphors and unique rhetorical questions to portray scientific research.
Throughout the entirety of the passage, Barry utilizes innovative metaphors to illustrate scientific
research. Metaphors are comparison between two or more objects that are of different natures. For
example, the author states, The best among them move deep into a wilderness region where they know
almost nothing, where the very tools and techniques needed to clear the wilderness, to bring order to
it, do not exist (Barry 25 29). Here, Barry is fundamentally capturing the essence of science. In other
words, he says that the most intuitive scientists, or they , are those who valiantly venture off to

Theme Of Babylon Revisited
F. Scott Fitzgerald s short story Babylon Revisited, (rpt. in Greg Johnson and Thomas R. Arp, Perrine
s Literature: Structure, Sound, and Sense, 12th ed. [Boston: Wadsworth, 2015] 199 216) begins in
Paris at Ritz Bar when a character named Charlie Wales is introduced. Charlie Wales, is described as a
renewed father who tries to regain custody of his daughter Honoria after his previous life of drinking
and recklessness. Charlie s old life of drinking and partying caused him to partake in numerous
regretful activities, resulting in the death of his own wife, Helen. Due to Charlie s actions, Honoria
was put in guardianship with Helen s sister, Marion. While Charlie claims to be over with his old
habits, Marion questions if he actually is. F. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 1920s, many partied and drinked in a fast paced lifestyle which can be related to Charlie s
original lifestyle. Later, during the 1920s, the stock market crash occurred, causing many to suffer
with insufficient funds. The stock market crash also correlates to Charlie and his luck with the stock
market, however, later losing all of his money. The Great Depression lasted from 1929 to 1939, and
was the worst economic downturn in the history of the industrialized world. . .when the Great
Depression reached its lowest point, some 15 million Americans were unemployed and nearly half the
country s banks had failed (History.com Staff, 2009). Another real world event is the Great
Depression, caused by the stock market crash. At the time of the Great Depression, Americans lost
everything, whether it was money, a house, cars, or beds, and were left with a low budget for food and
clothes. Readers can infer, the author s attempt to display the typical behaviors during his time period
in America and its relation to Charlie s. The Ritz Bar is another element in the author s message to the
readers. The Ritz Bar is an actual location in Paris, France, designated as a luxurious area for high
class people. The term still holds its place in common parlance, and American dictionaries define it as
luxurious, fashionable, elegant (The Ritz Bar, 2018). The bar s

Thus, a significant number of features do not get a theatrical release, but are released directly to home
video and other media.
According to the Independent Film Television Alliance (IFTA), last year, films from independents
received 79 overall Oscar nominations versus 42 for the majors, while in the top categories, indies had
21 nominations to 14 for the majors.
It is statistically apparent that independent features are highly regarded, and certainly on trend.
Investing in the right feature film can produce solid returns and that these returns can be substantial
over the short, medium and long terms. It is interesting to note that the number of distribution
channels for movies in general has increased greatly over the past several years. Cable and PAY TV
systems as well as Video on Demand platforms are growing exponentially throughout the world. In
recent years new cable channels have been launched to satisfy the increasing interest in independent
features. Channels such as the Sundance Channel and the Independent Film Channel are devoted to
free spirited independent films and other related features.

Delivery Of The Keys To Saint Peter
The aim of this paper is to examine two different pieces of art. In one corner we have Rogier van der
Weyden, Deposition and in the other corner we have Pietro Perugino, Delivery of the Keys to Saint
Peter. Both paintings are innovative with respect to the period that it was done in. As I move along in
this paper, I am going to examine an art piece and compare it to the other.
Let s begin by discussing the difference between the Italian Renaissance and the Northern
Renaissance. The Italian Renaissance was based in the south and common times referred to as the
stage model. The reason that it is called the stage model is because art in that time period were
primary focused on linear perspective. Meanwhile, the Northern Renaissance was based in the north,
in countries like the Netherlands and Germany. From time to time we will hear it be referred to as the
Mirror model. Northern Renaissance art is commonly known for its intricate detail. The Deposition is
a great example of Northern Renaissance art while the Delivery of the Keys to Saint Peter is a ... Show

If we zoom in on the Weyden s painting, we can see just how well he was able to capture the detail of
each individual s hair and even the wrinkles in their foreheads. Every strand of hair is accentuated and
every wrinkle is emphasized. To top it off, we are able to see and in some way feel the emotion of
each individual due to the realism of their expression. Then we look at Perugino painting and realize
that it is severely lacking in precise detail. Each individual has the same or slightly modified hair style
and their facial expressions are standard. I am not emotionally connected to the painting. I am not sure
if what is happening in the image is a good or bad thing. A person s expression tells a lot about them
and unfortunately Perugino was not able to reach the level that Weyden did when it comes to

Can You Describe What Trisa Was Missing In A Story Of A...
Little nine year old girl, Patricia Trisha McFarland, went missing on June 7th, 1999. While walking on
the Spring Point Shoreway mountain trail, Patricia was walking with her mother, Quilla Anderson, and
her brother, Pete McFarland. On June 8th, 1999, my news report team sent me out to investigate the
scene and to ask the family if they knew anything about her whereabouts and what exactly happened.
When I got to the McFarland s house, I got to meet Trisha s family, which consists of her mom, Quilla
Anderson, brother, Pete McFarland, and her dad, Larry McFarland. I sat them down in front of me and
set up my tape recorder so I can record the whole conversation and take it back to the police station.
Once it was all set up I grabbed my notebook full of questions and started asking all of them questions
about Trisha s life and her last day they saw her. Can you describe what Trisha looks like? Can you
explain what she was wearing on the trails? Quilla answered quietly, looking down, She is 4 11,
weighs 80 pounds, has natural bleach blonde hair. She has a mole on the left side of her face, pierced
ears that have little diamonds in them, a small scar on her forehead that she got when she was younger.
The last day we saw her, she was wearing a normal t shirt, a hoodie, skinny jeans, tennis shoes, a
signed Red Sox baseball hat, and she had a bookbag with her. I wrote most of the descriptions of her
down in my journal before I went to the next set of questions I need to be

1. In HTTP there are POST requests and GET requests, explain the difference(s) and why one is
slightly more secure than the other. Solution: 1.1 Difference (1) GET is typically used to retrieve data
from server that doesn t change anything on the server. POST is used to send data to server that
somehow causes a change in the state of server, such as inserting data in a database. (2) On client side,
GET uses URL to submit data and the data will be seen in URL. To submit data, POST puts data in
HTML HEADER. (3) For GET, the server uses Request.QueryString to get the value of variables. For
POST, the server uses Request.Form to get the data submitted. (4) GET usually transfers small amount
of data, while POST can transfer relatively larger amount of data. 1.2 Why one is slightly more secure

  • 2. Total War During World War II Definition: What is meant by the concept of Total War? Total war is best described as a country s 100% effort. All means of production and accomplishment are geared towards what is the best way to win a war. How was WWII the maximum example of Total War? Most Allies and Axis countries, namely Germany, had geared their economy towards pouring all their resources into the attempt of winning the war. In no other war was this done as much as it was during World War II. Mass Produced Warfare: Compare the military production of the various major Allied and Axis powers during WWII. What observations can you make about the outcome of the war based on this information? There are many ways of defining military production, but in the broadest way, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By not taking in other factors, and by looking at production amounts only, it is obvious that the Allies would win. There was no means of resources that the Axis powers excelled in, and had few people who fought in the war. Both sides of the war had at this time undergone industrial revolutions, had at least somewhat equal caliber machinery. This means that it would be almost physically impossible for the Axis to defeat the Allies. Strategic Bombing: What do the websites say about the effectiveness of bombing campaigns in disrupting the war effort of the Axis during WWII? According to the majority of the information on the websites, the bombing campaigns put in place by the Allies were not very effective. The main goal of the bombing campaigns were to break the morale of the Axis citizens, specifically Germany. This was done by instead of fully wiping out cities, leaving them only half damaged to show the power of the armies. However, these bombings did little to no damage to the will of Germans. People still were willing to support the Nazi cause. The German economy was very much destroyed, thanks to the bombing efforts, but military production was still proceeding, as the Germans were prepared for the Total War involved. It is also stated that as a result of the bombings, Germany s mobility was shrunken, as they could not move as fast as they wanted. What about the collateral damage involved? William Gibson s The Miracle Worker In the book The Miracle Worker by William Gibson, Gibson utilizes diverse dramatic technique, props and finger spelling in order to represent the internal and external conflicts between Helen Keller, and Annie Sullivan throughout the play. However, throughout the act, the relationship starts to build and develops to a happy ending. Addition to that it is also inferable that Annie regrets herself for not saving her brother no matter how bad her condition was also. The memory of the tragic past remains to be her inner conflict. But what many people don t know or don t realize is that fact that both Ballmer and Gates were college dropouts. They weren t dropouts from just any college, though, but from Harvard University. Now, Gates often jokes about how he is, according to Crimson, Harvard s most successful dropout . In his 2007 Harvard Commencement Address, Gates uses three key factors to make his speech a greatly memorable one. He used humor, seriousness, and motivation all in an adequate way that helped his speech be one for the books. That immediately results in laughter from the crowd. From then on, the humor and laughter continues for the majority of the opening. • 6. All God s Children By Fox Butterfield Essay All God s Children by Fox Butterfield is a stunning story about a teenage murderer, Willie James Bosket, and the heritage of violence within his family. Through some incredibly creative and thorough research, Butterfield traces Willie s family back to the Deep South where they had been slaves and provides in depth portrayals of each family member in order to give a comprehensive historical overview through each generation. The pattern of violence and its connection to the culture of the South makes a very compelling case for the values of the antebellum South, as they translate to a modern urban environment, where drugs and guns are readily available, and hope is fleeting, as a root cause in our culture s creation of violent sociopathic children like Willie Bosket. Author James Baldwin told an audience at a benefit for the reform school attended by the Boskets: ``These are all our children. We will profit by, or pay for, whatever they become. His words are quoted at the beginning of the book and are particularly powerful since they were said at the Wiltwyck School for Boys. Effects Of Rms On The Weekly Calls As RMS continues to indicate, based on our observations and more importantly on the review of assets during our weekly calls with Altisource, RMS continues to believe on many of these assets, the condition or location of the property is the primary driver behind not only the large reduction in list price, but ultimately a sales price well below the initial list price, all of which contribute to extended days on market and an increase in carrying costs incurred by the Trust. On listed assets with DOM of more than 60 days, RMS and Altisource discuss the list price and agent feedback to understand why purchase offers have not been received. RMS targets these assets for review every 2 weeks. Another recent observation is an increase in the number of assets in pending contract that fall out because the buyer fails to return the purchase agreement. This trend has continued to increase over the past several months. Although Altisource does not provide statistics regarding overall fallout, RMS has seen an increase based on our observations and the weekly calls. We believe this relates to the process by which Altisource sells REO assets (on the HUBZU website), where there is no economic penalty to the bidder if they place an offer on a property but fail to deliver an executed purchase agreement (similar to what would happen in a traditional sale transaction). In addition, we believe the lack of agent to agent contact and knowledge of whether a buyer visits the property prior to making an offer also play a role in the increased fallout. It was hypothesized that if the percentage of oxygen is measured experimentally in Chem B at Woonsocket High School, then it would be higher than the percentage of oxygen in dry air, which is 20.95%, because the air is not dry due to moisture in the air from people breathing and the altitude of where the experiment takes place may affect it as well. The number of people in the room, contributing to the humidity, is one of the contributing factors to the change in percentages of oxygen. The condensation of a person s exhaled breath is a factor that also minimally contributes to the humidity in the atmosphere. Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air at any given moment. When a person exhales, it marginally impacts the relative humidity, and, due to common sense, if there is more people in the room, there is a greater level of humidity. The percentage of oxygen in dry air is 20.95%. However, the air is not always dry. Thus, the percentage of oxygen cannot always be the same if humidity is always changing. Furthermore, dew point temperature is the absolute measure of the amount of water vapor present in the air. So, if the temperature is higher, it can hold more water vapor, making warmer climates much more humid than cooler climates. So, the temperature in the room is also an indirect contributing factor to the percentage of oxygen in the air. The distance above sea level is thought to potentially affect the percentages of oxygen. Nonetheless, it has been established that the percentage of oxygen molecules is always the same when considering altitude. This is because air is compressible, so the weight of all the air above applies pressure to the air at that particular altitude, making that air at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Article Review Brittany Loy Nebraska Methodist College Miscommunication, medication errors, and lack of compliance commonly occur in the healthcare field. These are just a few of the errors that occur due to the patient being from a different culture than the physician or healthcare worker. Those three errors alone have a huge impact on our healthcare today. If we could have a better understanding of other cultures that are different from our own we could have a dramatic decrease in errors and a great increase in healthcare participation. Training must be completed and must be done in more than one way. The first step is to make sure that all physicians and health care workers get the same nationwide training that focuses on improving cultural competence. How this is completed must be done in more than one way (Horwitz, 2001). The goal in fixing/decreasing this issue is to make sure the team has cultural competence. Cultural competence in healthcare has been operationalized as the ability to provide high quality care for patients with diverse values, beliefs, and behaviors, including the customization of service delivery and administration to meet the patients social and cultural needs (Anderson, 2003). Anne Moody s Coming of Age in Mississippi Essay Anne Moody s Coming of Age in Mississippi Coming of Age in Mississippi is the amazing story of Anne Moody s unbreakable spirit and character throughout the first twenty three years of her life. Time and time again she speaks of unthinkable odds and conditions and how she manages to keep excelling in her aspirations, yet she ends the book with a tone of hesitation, fear, and skepticism. While she continually fought the tide of society and her elders, suddenly in the end she is speaking as if it all may have been for not. It doesn?t take a literary genius nor a psychology major to figure out why. Her entire time spent in Canton is met with little support, if not disgust, by whites as well as blacks. While the county is primarily black citizens, they still remain submissive to the white citizens in the area. This truly confuses and annoys Moody. She is looked upon with contempt by nearly all of the elder blacks, and can only seem to reach a small number of teenagers. This is when she privately realizes that if a change is to come, it has to come with the younger generations, not with the older. She again refers to the elder blacks as brainwashed and afraid to take what is theirs. The blacks in the county held nearly half the land, yet most were barely doing well enough to feed their families. She seems to initially think that the inferior thinking is only prominent in Centerville and Woodville, but when she realizes that this same mentality is present in Canton as well as all other parts of Mississippi, as well as New Orleans, this is only another nail in the coffin of her dream. Aside from the mentality with which situations were dealt with, the events that occurred to Moody were also quite devastating. The death of Medgar Evans, the leader of the NAACP, the bombing of the Sunday school class directly after the march on Washington, the open beating of McKinley during the demonstration in Canton are only a few events which caused her to question what it was all worth. • 26. The Evolution Of Flightless Birds Evolution occurs when an animal species develops new bodily structures and functions in order to adapt to their new environment. These developments are seen as positive adaptations that enhances survival. However, some animal species have lost these new developments. Based on the geographic location and climate, some evolutionary developments that are no longer needed are lost due to the fact that the new bodily structure itself does not enhance the chance of survival in a particular environment (Kirchman 2009; Vieites, et al. 2009). In most cases these lost developments are passed down through future generations and are never redeveloped. However, more information is needed to decide whether or not the loss of these evolutionary developments was due to natural selection or by random mutation over years (Wilkens and Strecker 2003). In this paper, I will examine three studies from a diversity of taxa, which illustrate the history of flightless birds, how climate has influenced the evolution of salamanders and how life lived in darkness has influenced the blindness in cave fish. Together these studies depict how these evolutionary abilities are lost and their affects on the animal species. Krichman (2009) examined the ancestry of flightless birds (Gallirallus philippenesis) through the usage of genetic testing that were sampled throughout a range of ancestral species. This was to test a model of speciation where flightless birds were thought to have evolved from flying birds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Do you see a sixteen year old, a middle aged mother, a college graduate, or even a senior citizen worker? In September of 2013, California governor Jerry Brown signed a new bill into act that would cause the California minimum wage to rise from the current $8.00 and hour to $10.00 and hour in increments over the next three years. The minimum wage rate will go up in two separate $1.00 boosts. The first will change the rate from $8.00 to $9.00 in July of 2014, and the second increase, to $10.00, in January 2016. Once the minimum wage goes up will employers be able to successfully employ the same amount of workers as when the minimum wage was lower or will they be able to higher on new workers as they need them? This is one of the concerns of many in regards to the minimum wage increase. In Sanja Blazevic s article, Is Employment Decreasing Due to Minimum Wage Increase? , Sanja explains that many economists believe that a minimum wage increase causes most age groups of minimum wage workers to suffer. This is caused by jobs becoming more scarce after employers want to employ fewer people since they are being forced to pay them more than they would prefer to. Young workers (25 29) seeking a job of a minimum wage could see unemployment rise to close to 10% during a minimum wage hike (Blazevic) creating a significant unemployment problem. Other age ranges saw similar but not as extreme level of unemployment with a higher minimum wage. The only benefiting age range was that of those working for the minimum wage at the age of 60 65. This benefiting group however cannot outweigh the majority of those who face higher unemployment during a minimum wage hike. Sanja also brings up the fact that once the minimum wage increases it will leave a smaller wage gap ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rode, Kruetzer, Baillot, all alive during Beethoven s time period, were known to play on Stradivarius violins, with pernambuco wood bows that were of the Tourte style.10 François Tourte was the most innovative bow maker of all times, and he invented the modern bow, which produced a bigger sound, and allowed for a new galaxy of bow techniques. All subsequent bows have been variations of the Tourte style. Violins during Beethoven s time used gut strings, made from sheep or goat intestines. It produced a softer, darker sound than that of modern strings made of metal and synthetic materials, introduced around the third quarter of the 19th century. Other changes to the violin after Beethoven s time include the use of the chin and shoulder rests, which were created by the violinist Louis Spohr (1784 1859). Historiography Of The British Empire Any historiography of The British Raj must first start with the understanding that The British Raj fits within the broader historic concept of The British Empire. In the late 19th Century, many historians proposed that the history of The British Empire could be broken down into The First British Empire and The Second British Empire. The British Raj falls within the category of The Second British Empire within this view. The previous British involvement in India, via The East India Company, would largely fall within First British Empire. The opinions of historians, not any official decree by British law or authorities, are the basis for the concept of multiple periods of The British Empire. • 42. Sonny Corleone s Injustice In The Film, The Godfather The Godfather In the chosen scene, we see Sonny Corleone heading home after an incident where he threatens his brother in law with death if he continues to abuse the sister of Sonny. On his drive back, he stops at a toll booth; however, cars pull up behind him, and to each side boxing him in. The passengers of all 3 vehicles open fire on Sonny resulting in his tragic death. I believe that this scene in particular helps to embody the movie as a whole due to its tragic and violent nature. For instance, earlier in the movie Don Corleon attempts to help his Godson, Johnny Fontane, by influencing an abrasive studio yet through the death of his prized stallion. However, a few scenes afterwards it can be seen that outside forces conspire to box the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that this scene in particular truly captures the devastation, destruction and sadness that the true attack brought on both in reality and in the fictionalized account created within the movie. The pain, the sorrow and the desire for revenge that is reflected in the eyes and faces of the attendees helps to set the stage for the subsequent scenes in the movie where the bombing run on Japan occurs. While I do have to admit that there are an assortment of better scenes in the movie such as the scene where Danny dies and tells Rafe with his last breath that Rafe will be a father or the ending scene where Rafe and his young son ride off in a small plane, the fact remains that these scenes could be attributed to any other fictional movie while the memorial scene truly embodies the spirit of Pearl ... • 43. The Great Influenza Rhetorical Analysis Brilliant author, John M. Barry, once proclaimed, Uncertainty makes one tentative if not fearful, and tentative steps, even when in the right direction, may not overcome significant obstacles... It is the courage to accept indeed, embrace uncertainty (Barry 3 5 9 10). These quotes can be traced back to John M. Barry s passage of The Great Influenza, where he writes an account about the 1918 flu epidemic that struck the world. In his account, he goes into further explanation about the rigors and fulfillment of being a scientist, and simultaneously, discusses the tedious process of their research. Ultimately, society is educated that the life of a scientist should not be absolute, but it should consist of persistence and courage. In John M. Barry s The Great Influenza, the author employs innovative metaphors and unique rhetorical questions to portray scientific research. Throughout the entirety of the passage, Barry utilizes innovative metaphors to illustrate scientific research. Metaphors are comparison between two or more objects that are of different natures. For example, the author states, The best among them move deep into a wilderness region where they know almost nothing, where the very tools and techniques needed to clear the wilderness, to bring order to it, do not exist (Barry 25 29). Here, Barry is fundamentally capturing the essence of science. In other words, he says that the most intuitive scientists, or they , are those who valiantly venture off to ... • 46. Delivery Of The Keys To Saint Peter The aim of this paper is to examine two different pieces of art. In one corner we have Rogier van der Weyden, Deposition and in the other corner we have Pietro Perugino, Delivery of the Keys to Saint Peter. Both paintings are innovative with respect to the period that it was done in. As I move along in this paper, I am going to examine an art piece and compare it to the other. Let s begin by discussing the difference between the Italian Renaissance and the Northern Renaissance. The Italian Renaissance was based in the south and common times referred to as the stage model. The reason that it is called the stage model is because art in that time period were primary focused on linear perspective. Meanwhile, the Northern Renaissance was based in the north, in countries like the Netherlands and Germany. From time to time we will hear it be referred to as the Mirror model. Northern Renaissance art is commonly known for its intricate detail. The Deposition is a great example of Northern Renaissance art while the Delivery of the Keys to Saint Peter is a ... If we zoom in on the Weyden s painting, we can see just how well he was able to capture the detail of each individual s hair and even the wrinkles in their foreheads. Every strand of hair is accentuated and every wrinkle is emphasized. To top it off, we are able to see and in some way feel the emotion of each individual due to the realism of their expression. Then we look at Perugino painting and realize that it is severely lacking in precise detail. Each individual has the same or slightly modified hair style and their facial expressions are standard. I am not emotionally connected to the painting. I am not sure if what is happening in the image is a good or bad thing. A person s expression tells a lot about them and unfortunately Perugino was not able to reach the level that Weyden did when it comes to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Can You Describe What Trisa Was Missing In A Story Of A... Little nine year old girl, Patricia Trisha McFarland, went missing on June 7th, 1999. While walking on the Spring Point Shoreway mountain trail, Patricia was walking with her mother, Quilla Anderson, and her brother, Pete McFarland. On June 8th, 1999, my news report team sent me out to investigate the scene and to ask the family if they knew anything about her whereabouts and what exactly happened. When I got to the McFarland s house, I got to meet Trisha s family, which consists of her mom, Quilla Anderson, brother, Pete McFarland, and her dad, Larry McFarland. I sat them down in front of me and set up my tape recorder so I can record the whole conversation and take it back to the police station. Once it was all set up I grabbed my notebook full of questions and started asking all of them questions about Trisha s life and her last day they saw her. Can you describe what Trisha looks like? Can you explain what she was wearing on the trails? Quilla answered quietly, looking down, She is 4 11, weighs 80 pounds, has natural bleach blonde hair. She has a mole on the left side of her face, pierced ears that have little diamonds in them, a small scar on her forehead that she got when she was younger. The last day we saw her, she was wearing a normal t shirt, a hoodie, skinny jeans, tennis shoes, a signed Red Sox baseball hat, and she had a bookbag with her. Solution: 1.1 Difference (1) GET is typically used to retrieve data from server that doesn t change anything on the server. POST is used to send data to server that somehow causes a change in the state of server, such as inserting data in a database. (2) On client side, GET uses URL to submit data and the data will be seen in URL. To submit data, POST puts data in HTML HEADER.
