Breast Reconstruction Essay
Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery is one of the most mediatic specialties, however, it
remains without a completely adequate definition. McCarthy, a professor at New York University,
considers it a problem solving specialty, since it is not restricted by an organ system, pathology or
even the patient s age and gender. (4)
Although it is commonly associated with cosmetic surgery, the origin of this specialty lies in its
reconstructive aspect. Therefore, I chose to explore this aspect and, since% of the patients
submitted to the observed interventions were female, I decided to focus this monograph in an area
of so much importance for the woman as the breast.

Breast Reconstruction is a solution to the deformity caused by surgical excision of the neoplasia,
with substantial psychological benefits. (5)
In a simplistic way, there are two options for reconstruction: immediate / primary reconstruction
(MRI); And late / secondary reconstruction (DBR). Within these two options, we can subdivide the
reconstruction, according to the type of technique used, into the following categories: implant
reconstruction (IBR); And reconstruction with autologous vascularized flaps (ABR). The nipple
areolar reconstruction (RMA) concludes the reconstruction process, although it can be followed by
adjunctive procedures of symmetrization and fat infiltration, in order to improve the final aesthetic
result. (5) (7)
In the Results section of this monograph the following surgical interventions will be approached
and compared: IMR; The DBR; IBR with expander placement and permanent implant; The ABR,
more specifically the pedicled TRAM flap; Nipple areolar reconstruction; And fat infiltration.
Finally, the level of satisfaction of the patient subject to such procedures will be

Death Penalty Should Not Be Legal
Death Penalty, Constitutional or Not Imagine a family member of yours was unjustly framed with
something he didn t commit and he is sentenced to death penalty, how would you feel? Death
sentence has been thrown back and forth with the argument that it is or it is not an acceptable way
of punishing. Offenders are doing what they know best, breaking the law, but the government
instead of fixing the problem by doing something better, the make it worse by taking another life
from society, which can be considered a crime. The death penalty is currently being used by thirty
four out of the fifty in the United States. Death penalty often establishes the question, Does the
government have the right to take away someone s life? When death penalty claim another life, the
people that get affected are the families of the ones being charged. Death penalty does not bring
justice in this world, instead it takes the life of another human being, innocent or not. Death penalty
should not exist because it is unconstitutional and affects the families of the person being charged
with a certain case. Death sentence didn t just come out of the blue, it had to come from somewhere
and what inspired its creation The death penalty was established in the Eighteenth century, when
Captain George Kendall became the first person to be executed in 1608. The death penalty dated
back to when King Hammurabi existed as stated here. http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org stated, The

Argumentative Essay On Obesity
For many years now, obesity has been an issue that has plagued our country with its effect on our
people. From the increasing difficulty to get good healthcare, to the monumental amount of
fattening snacks that have cultivated themselves into our diets. Throughout our media, we have
seen countless ways in which the human body can look good, bad, look better, or look worse.
Most of which would ignore or makeup, health claims just to come off as scientific. Along with
what s considered as desirable, that sought out notion has and will continue to change. Articles,
books, songs, movies, and magazines have left many Americans feeling pulled in multiple
directions on how to take care of their bodies as well as how they should look. Leading to body
issues, radical or hateful opinions, and possibly health problems. Many studies, book, papers,
and social experiments on obesity are developed to clear up some confusion towards eating and
weight gain, of which add their own informed opinions and facts to brighten our previous sphere
of knowledge on the subject. Some of which are proven biased or false based on opposing
opinions or facts but, for the most part, add to the conversation. So with this much information out
there and with many of them contradicting themselves, one may ask internally What is the right
thing to do for me? , or What should I believe? , and those are valid questions. Does one look at
what science says that day or go with what they feel is healthy? With these

Benefits Of Mummification
Throughout history, historians have mulled over what truly makes a great civilization, and which
of these civilizations can be deemed the greatest . Focusing on the first period, when the earliest
civilizations had just begun to bloom, one could spend hours picking out what qualities of each
would cause the certain civilizationto rise above the others. The five nations are: Babylon, the Indus
Valley, Ancient Egypt
, Mesopotamia, and the Shang Dynasty. It is one s duty to discover which is
more advanced than the others, and the argument could go many ways. The advancements in
Egyptian architecture, the medicinal benefits of mummification, and the more respected role of
women all contribute to Egypt s greatness .

Egyptian values of love were strong, so men seemed to look upon women with more love and
respect, rather than treat them as property. Cleopatra, the goddess Isis, and shared legal and
economic rights could be described as evidence of a higher role for women. The fact that women
could even rule itself was unheard of in its entirety. And Cleopatra is a strong female figure who
was respected by all her subjects for her cunning wisdom. Isis was a prominent goddess, revered
as the Queen of the Gods . She also served as a personification of female creative power. Women
enjoyed the same rights as men, unlike other civilizations, such as Babylon, where women were
treated like property. Women had many freedoms, including the right to divorce a man. The more

Nikita Sergeyevich Kruschev Essay
Nikita Sergeyevich Kruschev
Serving as one the most controversial leaders of the Soviet Union during its relatively short
existence, Nikita Sergeyevich Khruschev proved to be a leader capable of transforming a nation.
Through his many alterations to the systems by which the Soviets lived, he managed to increase
the standard of living and productivity of this Communist State. Described as a man of enormous
energy and drive, he was shrewd, tough, earthy, sociable and talkative, and he confidently took
colossal gambles in both foreign and domestic policies. From his Secret Speech and the following

One week after this occurrence, Khruschev took over control of the Communist party from
Malenkov. He then proceeded to arrest Beria, head of the secret police, and execute him along
with six of his aides. By this time he was the acknowledged head of the Communist party. He
quickly rose to the position of Premier when, in 1956 he forced Malenkov to resign from the
position. Following this he delivered a compelling speech to the people denouncing many of
Stalin s actions. He expelled all of his remaining rivals in June of 1957. The four main rivals,
Molotov, Malenkov, Kaganovich, and Shepilov, were not executed as a responsible action to
exhibit Khruschev s compassion and responsibility in an effort to boost public support. As a
result of this political campaign based on responsibility and compassion, he freed many political
prisoners and urged peaceful coexistence with the West. This process of solidifying his leadership
took a long time and was a great risk to him and his people because of the past popularity and
support of Stalin and his ways.
Although he seemed to be steering the Soviet Union in the right direction, his people and
colleagues still viewed him critically. He had begun to realize that a state could not be run with a
lot of brain washed helots . He shifted the economy as to raise the standard of living. This in turn
began the development of individual thinkers, Soviets with a mind of their own. In order to allow

Final Tax Return
When a person dies, filing final tax returns becomes mandatory for the executor of the estate. The
executor must file a final federal income tax return and a final state income tax return (if required)
reporting all income earned by the decedent in the final year of life up until the day of death.
Furthermore, even if the executor hires a taxprofessional to file the final tax returns, the executor
must know how to prepare the information needed by the tax professional. Otherwise, the tax
professional will charge the estate a substantial amount to handle the preparation as well as the
filing of the final tax returns.
How to Prepare the Final Tax Returns
As explained in the article Track the Estate Income, income earned by the decedent in the final
year of life up until the day of death requires reporting on the final tax returns. In addition, since
most 1099 s will report income earned for the entire year, the executor needs to be aware that the

final tax returns accurately:

Microbiota Controls The Homeostasis Of Glial Cells
Cristiaan Ciarlo
Bio 328
Summary: The article titled: Microbiota Controls the Homeostasis of Glial Cells in the Gut Lamina
Propria assessed the varying conditions in which Microbiota within the developing digestive tract
can influence the process of network formation of the certain aspects of the enteric nervous system.
The enteric nervous system (ENS) is the aspect of the digestive system endowed with its own
nervous system (Bowen 2006). As far as the article is concerned, there were three important
biological findings presented in the article concerning the ENS.
The first was that glial cells, under situations that are comparable to environmental, aggregate in
the lamina propria during early stages of development after birth. The second finding was that this
population of glial cells undergoes a regenerative cycle throughout the life of the organism. This
occurs in a specific region of the gut. The final finding was that this early stage development and
subsequent regeneration throughout the life of the organism depends on the microbiota presented
to the gut. The Microbiota, as they are referred to in the article, are part of an enormous array of
microbes which colonize the body (Baily, Gur, Worly, 2015). Therefore it can be understood that
the gut microbiota are the microbes of the body that inhabit the gut. These seem to be part of the
primary focus in the article.
The article noted that there were questions that arose regarding the development of this specific

Julius Caesar- Rise to Prominence
Julius Caesar s rise to prominence up until 60BC transpired due to a number of factors. The first
of these being his family background and Marian connections, which at varying stages of his life
were both a help and a hindrance. We can also note that most of his marriages were used to gain
political and financial resources accentuating his connections to powerful families and individuals.
This rise to prominence can also be attributed to Caesar s opportunistic nature and vast ambitions
coupled with his education and specialised tuition in the art of rhetoric, skills essential to gain
popularity and political office. Additionally his acquisition of religious titles added prestige and
status to his name while providing him with an array of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

young man Caesar was appointed Flamen Dialis with help from his Uncle Gaius Marius a
position that provided little power although establishing Caesar as a Populare supporter. Plutarch
tells us that, To this candidacy Sulla secretly opposed himself, and took measures to make Caesar

The Effects Of Media On Young Audiences
Violence in the media has become a hot topic of discussion due to its potential effects on young
audiences. While content on broadcast networks such as ABC and NBC is regulated by the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC), premium channels like the Home Box Office
(HBO) do not fall under their jurisdiction and therefore do not need to obey such regulations (Title
47). A prime example of graphic violenceon televisionthat falls outside of the FCC s purview is
found in the HBO hit series Game of Thrones. The ninth episode of the third season of Game of
Thrones, The Rains of Castamere , is well known as one of the most violent episodes in the
show. This is mostly attributed to a specific scene in this episode, known by the book readers as
the Red Wedding. The scene is one of the most violent scenes in all of Game of Thrones history.
The Red Wedding scene was quite controversial after it aired in 2013, with some arguing that it
was too violent, even for an HBO television show. Others stated that they thought the violence
was necessary considering the historical references mentioned, and the way the book was
written. I believe that the purpose of the violence and gore found in Game of Thrones, and more
specifically The Rains of Castamere , is to replicate the way modern audiences think of the Dark
Ages. It also stands to entice the original readers of the novels who would expect the violence of
the show to live up to that in the books. The violence in The Rains of

Seepage Control in Earthen Dams
Most dams in active use today exhibit seepage of one form or another. The location, rate of flow,
and turbidity (clear or murky) are the critical factors when evaluating the seriousness of seepage
from a dam. Seepage is the continuous movement of water from the upstream face of the dam
toward its downstream face, and is a major minor problem when it comes to the life span of dams
and embankments. It is a major minor problem because if controlled the affects are minor and not
hazardous, but if not controlled it can become a major problem and possibly result in failures.
Conditions of Seepage Most dams have some seepage through or around the embankment as a
result of water moving through the soil structure. If the seepage forces are ... Show more content on

Most failures caused by groundwater and seepage can be classified into one of two categories
based on the type of soil movement that is occurring. The failures will typically develop over a
relatively long period of time so there will be ample warning if routine inspections are performed.
The two categories of failure include those that take place when soil particles migrate to an escape
exit and cause piping or erosion failures, and those that are caused by uncontrolled seepage patterns
that lead to saturation, internal flooding, excessive uplift, or excessive seepage forces.
Controlling Seepage Regularly scheduled monitoring and inspection is essential to detect seepage
and prevent dam failure. Inspections should be made periodically throughout the year.
Frequency should be based on hazard classification of the dam. Higher classified dams should be
checked more common, compared to those that are lower hazard classified. At a minimum all
dams should be visually inspected at least every six months, before a predicted major storm
event, during or after severe rainstorms or snowmelts, and inspected weekly after construction is
complete and reservoir filling is ongoing, and for at least two months after the reservoir has been
filled. Dam inspections performed on a regular basis are the most economical aid a dam owner
can use to assure the safety and long life of the structure while reducing liability risks. If seepage
is detected on a

Comparing Love In The Great Gatsby And The Awakening
Love is a major theme in almost every novel and is one of the key characteristics in many plots.
Love can affect a character s decisions, emotions, and overall actions which is what makes it one
of the most influential themes. That is why I chose love for my theme because it is present in
everything people do. Loveis an impactful theme in The Great Gatsbyby F. Scott Fitzgerald, A Doll
s House by Henrik Ibsen, A Patchwork Planet by Anne Tyler, and The Awakening by Kate
Chopin. The Great Gatsby showed the theme of love in two significant ways. One way was
Gatsby s love for the past and things that could never exist again, and another was Gatsby s
totally blinding love for Daisy no matter what she did. Love can be see in A Doll s House
through Nora s feelings towards her children, which she ignorantly thought were love and in
Torvald s superficial love for Nora. Love appears in A Patchwork Planet in a much more subtle way.
It can be seen between Barnaby and Opal in a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These novels changed my outlook on the world by showing me that love is not always perfect
and it doesn t always work out in the end. I learned that true love is not flawless and always
works out, true love is a choice not a chance. I ve understood from these beautiful works of
literature that true love does not appear between two people, those people have to be willing to
work out any problems that will come and work on the relationship constantly. Gatsby and Daisy
s failed relationship in The Great Gatsby taught me that relationships cannot just work out on
their own, they take cooperation. Gatsby wasn t willing to comply with Daisy s new and mature
needs while Daisy wasn t willing to put in the effort and leave her husband for Gatsby. Had the
two of them be willing to work together and put in the effort, ignoring Daisy s evil side and that
she was no good for Gatsby, they could have had a healthy

The solvent that worked best in my experiment was rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol is a
denatured alcohol especially used as an antiseptic. It can also be used to cool, warm, or soothe
skin. It can inflame the skin and if ingested, may potentially be fatal. Rubbing alcohol consists of
2 ingredients: isopropyl alcohol and water. In fact, rubbing alcohol consists of so much isopropyl
alcohol (70%) that it is often referred to just as isopropyl alcohol. Water was the final solvent that
I used in my experiment. Water is essential for anything and everything. Human beings need water
to stay hydrated and survive. All living creatures need water to stay hydrated and survive.
Everyone uses water every day; whether it s to shower, brush their teeth, to drink, swim, wash their
hands, or to water plants. Seventy percent of the world is made up of water. Water contains two
hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom, and is often referred to as H2O. The H2 stands for the 2
oxygen atoms and the O stands for oxygen. Water can be a liquid, solid, or gas. Water in its
regular state is a liquid, can be frozen to form ice, which is a solid, or boiled at 100В° C to
evaporate it and turn it into water vapour, which is a gas. Plastic was one of the surfaces I used in
my experiment. Plastic comes from the Greek word plastikos, which means fit for moulding.

Role Of Export Led Growth On Shenzhen
Role of Export led Growth in Shenzhen
The unparalleled growth of economies in China over the past thirty decades have sparked a lot of
interests from economists, with many arguments and explanations attempting to account for the
actual dynamics that influenced such growths. Since the 1970s, the Chinese s economy has a
tendency is constantly increasing. The export led growth gradually exceeded the import, with an
annual growth of 17.2 percent in exports and 16.4 percent in import in 2010 (lse.ac.uk). In fact,
implement of the policy of reform and opening, export led growth is one of the main reasons for
Chinese economic prosperity. One of typical examples is Shenzhen, located in southeastern China.
Trading export leads Shenzhen s GDP to rising, which has become the main momentum of
economic growth. This success must contribute to its strategic location and geographic location.
Shenzhen has its own favourable geographic conditions. It is situated in the South of Guangdong
province, belong to Pearl River Delta, where is the center of manufacturing industry and modern
service industry. For a long time, Shenzhen is an important city in the south of China. It is close to
South China Sea and owns the traffic thoroughfares, Strait of Malacca. The north of Shenzhen is

residential area located in the south east of Grenada, with the majority of the residents from the
generation X and Y age range, with few residents in the baby boomer category. Upon completion
of this survey, the results should help to identify; the level of awareness of villagers to the new
laws passed by Grenada parliament on the crimeand their legal penalties, determine the thoughts on
the past consequences compared to the present, determine the villagers attitude towards the new
penalties of crime and find out whether the consequences are deterring factors to thought and action
of committing crime. Moreover, to help gather and process information needed to help make valid
and reliable conclusions, quantitative survey research through the use of structured questionnaires
is used.
Questionnaire was chosen to gather information on villagers since; adequate information can be
collected from a large size of the villagers in a short period of time and in a cost effective manner.
Also, the information captured from villagers and quantified through the use of charts, graphs and

The Southern Dialect as Seen in the Works of William Faulkner
In the writings of William Faulkner, the reader may sense that the author has created an entire
world, which directly reflects his own personal experience. Faulkner writes about the area in and
around Mississippi, where he is from, during the post Civil War period. It is most frequently
Northern Mississippi that Faulkner uses for his literary territory, changing Oxford to Jefferson and
Lafayette County to Yoknapatawpha County, because it is here that he lived most of his life and
wrote of the people he knew.
Faulkner s stories focus on the Southeastern United States at a time period when old traditions
began to clash with new ideals. This is an era in American history ... Show more content on

Anyone not from the South may need explanations of much of Faulkner s pronunciations, words,
usages, and language customs which the author himself takes for granted. Because Faulkner has
employed such a vast and complex Southern dialect in his stories, the language he uses has become
a microcosm of Southern language as a whole. As one critic has noted, local forms of speech
maintain one s individual dignity in a homogenizing world (Burkett vii).
In Faulkner, this local speech is a mixture of Southern American and Negro dialogue with all the
folklore from Virginia to Louisiana, Florida to Texas (Brown 2). Faulkner s dialect is effective both
as a literary device and as a link between the American English language and American culture and
history, specifically in the Southeast.
The South is probably the most linguistically diversified part of the nation. Blacks and whites from
Atlanta to Charleston to Nashville speak a different form of standard English in a different version
of the Southern accent. Part of this linguistic diversity is reflected in the way that the Southern
aristocracy can shift not only vocabulary and pronunciation, but even grammar, according to the
audience ((1)McDavid 219). This

Edward Albee Essay
Edward Albee, a famous American Playwright, was born on March 12, 1928 and grew up in
Westchester County, New York. Albee grew up with his adoptive parents and left home at the age
of 18, due to conflicts with his adoptive parents and a suffocating environment. Although, his

File Sharing And The Internet Piracy
In recent years, internet piracy or file sharing of copyrighted material has gained much
popularity. It is a topic that has incessantly sparked debate and has even received global attention.
Although on the surface the act of file sharing may seem harmless, it is far from it. Each year,
film and record production companies as well as software and video game development
companies suffer from billions of dollars in lost profits. This loss comes as a direct result of internet
piracy. Many agree that file sharingis unethical and consider it to be no different than downright
theft. On the other hand, there are those that support file sharing and claim that their actions are
easily justified and ethical. This essay will provide a brief overview and history of file sharing,
will consider the arguments of each side, and will offer my personal observations and stance on the
issue.
File sharing, put simply, is the process of making available and distributing files via the internet.
Many freely developed applications have been made available that simplify this process,
providing the ability to easily search for, download, and upload any piece of digital content
imaginable. These applications are commonly referred to as P2P or peer to peer applications as they
allow individuals (peers) to directly connect with other peers to share files. By themselves, such
applications are useless; a central network must be available that allows each peer to see one
another. These

Secondary And Types Of Secondary Nutrients
Secondary Micronutrients Secondary nutrients are also required for plant growth and consist of
Sulfur, Calcium, and Magnesium. Though they are secondary they are still quite abundant in the
soil and are utilized within the complex functions a plant needs to grow. Sulfur is important for its
presence in vitamins and enzymes, calcium is essential to the structure of the cell wall, and
magnesium is the main electron carrier in the photosynthetic reaction (Prasad Power, 1997, p. 243).
Micronutrients are those that are only found in trace amounts but are still quite important in many

119). Soil microbes not only produce accessible nitrogen, but they also fix many nutrients which
are specific to plant growth (Araujo Melo, 2010, p. 2421). These microbes naturally fertilize plants
and soils which embraces microbial life and more active nutrient cycling.
Mycorrhizae
Mycorrhizal fungi play a large role in the terrestrial manifestation of plants (their movement onto
land). This is because this species of fungi form a symbiotic relationship with plant roots, allowing
them to have more surface area and an overall greater water and nutrient absorption. These
symbiotic relationships occur in majority of plants and growth results can be drastic since
mycorrhizae allows for greater phosphorus consumption than the 15 20% consumed by plants
without mycorrhizae (Prasad Power, 1997, p. 171). This fungus can be inoculated and integrated
within the soil when planting new crops, giving the plant roots greater potential for nutrients.
Mycorrhizae naturally occurs on the majority of plant roots making them abundant in natural soil
ecosystems and forest floors.
Other Important Aspects of Soil
Organic Litter Organic litter makes up the uppermost layer of soil and is supplemented by dead
leaves, branches, trees, and dead animal waste. These are all forms of organisms rich in organic
compounds that supply soil microbes with the raw material to convert into the components of soil
and usable nutrients. This

South Park, Family Guy And The Simpsons
Humor is a universal phenomenon in language. It is so common that it penetrates every field of
human life and it is embodied in newspaper, magazines, dramas, literature, advertising, films and
especially situation comedies (sitcoms). As a very popular type of TV program, American sitcoms
have enormously appealed to a large group of audience. Situation comedies order the narrative and
effect a particular closure, setting up a temporal sequence and positioning the subject, not in
suspense but amusement and laughter (Woollacott, 1996). Laughter eliciting conversation and
behavior in sitcoms have been much liked. In this essay I will talk about animated sitcoms. The

In Family Guy, there are many revolutionary political opinions hide behind the characters. The
storyline is more focused towards family and societal problems, because this is where a large
faction of the audience comes from. The animator MacFarlane has carefully blended family
problems and politics with slap stick and fart jokes in Family Guy. And there are many people
who believe the genre of Family Guy is a disgrace. Apply this notion to Family Guy, a clear
example of how the audiences are blended can be seen in the song entitled The Fellas At The
Freakin FCC sung by the Family Guy s main characters Peter (father), Brian (dog) and Stewie
(son). The song is mocking how the government wants a more firm censorship of material. This is
epitome of a political statement infused with crude humor. The song goes as

A Report On The Jet Engine
A 6am wake up call, I dragged myself out of bed and into the cold morning air. After a quick
breakfast, I made my way to the ops rooms for a briefing, before going on standby and awaiting
the call to scramble. We did not have to wait long before a call came through. We jumped into a
Land Cruiser and made our way quickly to the flight line. ZG477 had the early morning sun
glinting off the canopy as we drew up to the flight line. After a quick check round the outside and
a chat for any issues, I climbed into the cockpit, got strapped in with the help of ground crew and
began pre flight checks. The Pegasus engine burst into life and we were soon on our way along
the taxiway towards the end of the runway at Kandahar. The GR9 Harriers were originally fitted
with the Pegasus MK105 engine providing 21,750lb and the GR9A Harriers fitted with the
higher rated Pegasus MK107 engine providing 23,400lb thrust. The GR9A with the higher rated
engine were also modified to incorporate a new metal, high fatigue rated, rear fuselage section as
well. We were given immediate takeoff clearance. As soon as I had turned onto he runway and
was straight, I pushed the throttle fully forward, holding the brakes on before releasing them
moments later. The noise of the Pegasus engine rose to a high pitch scream as the Harrier leapt
forward, pushing me back into the seat. On takeoff, you always needed to concentrate on keeping
the aircraft flying straight as it rocked slightly from side to side as it

My Study Of Landscapes And Landscape Theory
The sublime when involved specifically within nature and landscapes, concerns itself with
representing a dark scene that usually shows the uncontrollable power of nature. The focus on
storms as moments when the sleepy grandeur of nature is stirred up... arouses the inner force of
the subject... and laid the groundwork of the sublime tradition . (B.Beckley, 2001) This became
my main area of focus for my work; to create a series of paintings showing the power and
unpredictability of nature over a landscape. In my previous project I began my study of landscapes
by focussing on our everyday surrounding and variances in landscapes being dependant on
individuals social and cultural differences. In Landscape Theory, Jackson suggests landscapes...

This contradicts my intentions of representing the sublime in nature. This directed my work into
a more focussed outcome; to show landscape that represents both the picturesque s control and
the sublimes unpredictability. I started to experiment with various maps, specifically a familiar
landscape for me (where I grew up), and how I could incorporate or contrast these with the
sublime in landscape. I see the maps within my work as a way to represent order, and so
experimented with various methods in layering over the top to cover the controlled element in a
free manner to represent the uncontrollable aspects of the sublime creating contrast. The
direction for my work was initially inspired by my research into David Hockneys paintings in
the previous term. David Hockney uses colour theory to determine his choice of contrasting and
complementary palette in his paintings. This unique style, paired with the vast scale of most of
his work, creates an immersion for the viewer into the landscape being depicted. I wanted to
recreate this within my work with scale but also colour palette. I had little concern with specific
use of colour theory, but experimented with blocks of bold, bright colours to create the landscape;
while leaving enough visual connections to allow the viewer to depict an aerial view or map of a
landscape. While reading I came across an article using the phrase degree of abstraction . Although
the article had no connection

Role Of Chivalry In Beowulf
The role of chivalry is a complicated concept for solitary heroes within Beowulf and Albrecht
DГјrer s Knight, Death, and the Devil. In Beowulf, the concept of chivalry is explained through
the eyes of the hero, Beowulf, which is the idea of performing chivalrous actions in the face of
death for glory; however, Beowulfdoes not realize that his actions will not keep his people safe in
the end. In Knight, Death and the Devil, the idea of chivalry is the motivation of the knight on
religious grounds to be chivalrous in the face of death. The Knight gives the impression that he
understood that his actions would ultimately be meaningless, and he appears resigned to the idea.
The argument can be made that chivalry is unsustainable in both texts, given that while it inspires
these heroes to pursue these tasks, the result is that they believe that mild sacrifices, such as their
own life, must be made to ensure victory; however, these two texts differ with their heroes
anticipated outcomes of their sacrifices, which turns out to be for nothing. Despite having different
outcomes of operating within a system of chivalry, these two texts similarly critique the outcomes
of chivalry as being unsustainable based on the demands it places on heroes to sacrificethemselves.
To defend this claim, I will begin by similarly critiquing how chivalry is unsustainable within both
texts. I will then express how both texts show the unsustainability results from the demands of
sacrifice. I will then

The Beginning Of Enslavement Of Slavery Essay
The Beginning of Enslavement
After the Thirty Years War, Europe s economy was depressed leaving many laborers without
work. A life in the New World, gave European Immigrants a new sense of hope. Indentured
Servants were people who sold their labor voluntarily in exchange for free passage to the New
World, and given housing upon their arrival. They were willing to enter an agreement to work for
a specified amount of time, nor were considered the property of the contract holder. Alike in certain
aspects, however, divergent in many areas of Indentured Servants, in the early 1600 s Slavery
began in America when the first African Slaves brought to the colony of Jamestown, Virginia.
Virginia was one of the first states to acknowledge slavery in its laws, to aid the production of
lucrative tobacco crops. In 1670. The law that defined which people could be enslaved declared,
all servants not being Christians imported into this colony by shipping shall be slaves for their
lives. (Norton, Mary Beth. (2015). Initially, slaves were treated as Indentured Servants and given
much freedom until eventually slave laws were passed. When the slave laws were passed this had
seized any freedoms that might have existed for African Americans. The colonies began to reflect
contradictions between Indentured Servants and Slaves. More important, the laws began to
differentiate between races: the association of servitude for natural life with people of African
descent became common. (Law

Essay the dead
The Dead
Some say that people never change. They may be right, but no one really knows. What people do
know is that every living person has one thing in common, something that will never change.
Everyone will die, there s no way around it. Every new and old generation will succumb to the
same ghastly fate. The differences in the old generation and new generation sometimes collide in
life. The contrast between generations in James Joyce s The Dead is similar to the contrast in the
generations today. The baby boomer generation is the old fashioned generation preoccupied with
hospitality and tradition, where as, generation x is the new generation, preoccupied with knowledge
and intellect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This generation is preoccupied with the search for knowledge. The new generation is educated and
knows things that the older generation has no concept of, which was evident several times during
Gabriel s speech at the dinner table. Gabriel s aunt did not understand what Gabriel speech was
about, but she still smiled and was hospitable which corresponds with the qualities of her
generation. The newer generation is always tormented with thought. They are constantly thinking
of what some one else is thinking, or some one else is feeling. Gabriel is distraught when he tries
to understand his wife and why she is upset. When he finds out what the problem is, he finds out he
was wrong and he doesn t know everything, although he sometimes thinks so. The newer generation
tries to better themselves through knowledge, but sometimes fails because of the lack of passion
and the qualities of the older generation.
The generations in The Dead differ because what one has, the other lacks. The older generation
overflows with generosity, compassion, and hospitality, lacking knowledge. The newer generation
is growing in knowledge and education, but fails to express the love and nationalism that the older
generation displays. The gap in generations is a common way of life that is evident between
generations today. The generations are linked only in that they will experience the love and loss

Analysis of Transcript Young Ones Introduction: I have chosen to analyse the beginning of the
first episode in the first series of the 80 s TV comedy The Young Ones . This particular text
appeals to me because it is important in how it introduces the characters, as this is the first time the
audience ever meet them. Relative Status: Rick and Neil are both students living in the same house;
therefore their status should be equal though both are striving for dominance. Rick is defiantly the
more dominant of the two, due to his extrovert personality. Both characters are self centred, for
instance, at the beginning of the scene; Neil delivers a monologue where he talks about himself...

This is denoted by the way Neil talks to himself or arguably the audience, about what is going
on. His frequent use of fillers such as right and like emphasize the chatty, personal speech and
helps make a scripted conversation flow like a natural one. These fillers also make Neil more
real and human; this helps the audience to relate to him. This is especially important as the
character of Neil is arguably there to be sympathised with. When Rick is discussing his poem
about Cliff Richard, Neil is talking about how he is going to kill himself, this is an attempt to
change the topic of conversation, however he fails as Rick is the dominant speaker. Thus, two
separate conversations run parallel with each other. Lexis: The lexis within my transcript is
informal, conversational and often colloquial. For example words such as eh , huh , yeah and
gonna are examples of conversational lexis. There are also examples of clichГ©d hippy lexis
used by Neil, such as man , heavy , karma and suss out , these form the semantic field of
spiritualists, which reinforce stereotypical ideas about students and hippies . Rick s poem displays
many typical features of a poem, with the use of rhyme and repetition. For example, the rhyming
of as if and a cliff immediately allows the audience to recognise that it is a poem. The poem

In The Moor s Last Sigh, Salman Rushdie uses the complex and changing character of the Moor to
represent a complex and changing image of India. By making the eclectic family history of the Da
Gama Zogoiby family the central theme in the first two parts of the novel, Rushdie portrays India as
a culturally and religiously pluralistic society. This pluralistic society is layered by violence
caused by the corruption of multiplicity by various characters and the threat of Hindu
fundamentalism. As pluralism is defeated by fascism in Part Three of the novel, the nature of the
violence changes drastically and is symbolized by the Moor s significant character change: The

The Zogoiby s diverse history entails attempts to embrace many of these ideals. The eclectic
cultural backgrounds of the Zogoiby family are representative of pluralism in India. The Da
Gamas are Portuguese Catholics while the Zogoibys are Moorish Jews. All of the Moor s
ancestors blatantly reject religion and embrace secularism: an arguably important component of
pluralism. When Camoens went to see Gandhi speak, he told his wife Belle, I hear nothing. I had
seen India s beauty in that crowd with its soda water and cucumber but with that God stuff I got
scared (Rushdie 55). Another example of pluralism within the Zogoiby family is Aurora s artwork,
especially her childhood paintings in which she strives to represent the variety and multiplicity in
the vision of the world and the vision of India. As Aurora ages, however, her childhood visions of
pluralism are significantly changed.
Although Aurora s later paintings also embrace pluralism, they reveal possible catastrophe: A
place where worlds collide, flow in and out of one another, and washofy away. Place where an air
man can drowno in water, or else grow gills; where a water creature can get drunk, but also
chokeofy on air. One universe, one dimension, one country, one dream, bumpo ing into another, or

What are the effects of different temperatures on the decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide with the
Enzyme Catalase. Different enzymes work best at different optimal temperatures, and with this
experiment we hope to discover which temperatures are unideal for Catalase. The substrate is H2O2
which binds to the active site of the enzyme Catalase. The reaction in question is as written below:
Hydrogen Peroxide + Catalase Water + Oxygen

Essay On Kampong Glam
Take a Step Back Into Yesterday with The Sultan
The Sultan is far from being an ordinary hotel as it is built entirely based on Singapore s unique
and rich history. From carefully conserving the hotel s structure to be of what it was back in the
1800s to the design of the hotel that focuses on a specific era, The Sultan gives its guests a little
taste of the old Singapore charm with a modern touch.
History All Around
Situated in one of Singapore s historical sites, Kampong Glam was one of the early major projects
initiated by the British designated for the then Sultan (a Muslim sovereign) and the Muslim
community. Here, they built a palace to house the Sultan, school and also the iconic mosque today
known as the Sultan Mosque. In the 1900s, Kampong Glam saw a rise in commercial activities and
expanded by building new shop houses and residential buildings. Soon, the community got bigger
with the inclusion of the Chinese and Indians.
The Sultan Project
This miniature version of The Sultan shows the top view of the entire hotel. It has an interesting
structure with some parts of the building varying in size. This is because The Sultan is actually
made up of ten conservation shop houses that has been carefully joined to become one big
structural wonder. Each individual shop house has been salvaged and restored to its original state.

The Little Town Of Christmas Essay
Most people agree that Christmas is a magical time. They believe that it can warm the heart of
Scrooge, bring toys to life, and even deliver toys across the globe. However, can a Christmas ad
be magical, is it possible for just an ad taped to the wall; can it incite warm feelings in someone s

seem plain and boring, yet there are several aspects to it that many will and have overlooked.
There are several different design aspects that are used to incite this warm Christmas mood into the
hearts of many; these aspects are the ad s font style, the colorscheme, the age range it targets, and
the overall design choice.
Many ads go with several different font styles such as Calibri, Times New Roman, and Comic

The Statement Of Principles By The International...
The Statement of Principles by the International Conference on Cataloguing Principles in Paris
in 1961 established the rules and concepts that create catalog standardization for libraries
multinationally. Based, in part, on Samuel Lubetzky s unfinished book Code of cataloging
rules; author and title entry. An unfinished draft for a new edition of cataloging rules (1960), the
Paris Principles created order in a library community that was much less communal than it is
today by modernizing antiquated cataloging systems and bringing consensus and consistency to
the world of library information organization (Lubetzky, 1960). Communal borrowing and
sharing of bibliographic data was primarily implemented to serve library catalogs, particularly of
large general libraries and are designed for printed books and documents (Frost 1983). Here in
lies the weakness of this system libraries have evolved. The main focus of this paper, and a
primary component of the Paris Principles, is the main entry point a prime component that
allowed for international cataloging consistency. With the move from the Paris Principles to
AACR2 (Anglo American cataloguing rules, second edition) and the evolution toward RDA
(Resource description and access), modern library catalogers are finding less and less of a need
for the main entry point in a record, or at least the traditional main entry point of an author s name
or a resource s title (Ridley, 1997). Using an access point as the main entry point has

members of society (Funk, 2001). Worldviews and society around us significantly impact the way
we view and think about culture and education. The Milne (2013) quote discusses the idea that
when children are young they do not have these views on cultureand other s beliefs. Children at a
young age, have not been exposed to views of others, and therefore are oblivious and innocent to
the worldviews and race issues. It does not matter to young children, as they don t care where they
put the colours (Milne, 2013, p. 6). These children do not have the stereotypes that society has
created to form an opinion about other s ethnicities and backgrounds, therefore... Show more

Normalisation is very prevalent within our society (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 2003).
This normalisation is created by society through views of others and takes on a position of what
is normal and what is abnormal in society (Mika, 2017). The dominant group within society is
typically considered to be normal , while those outside of the dominant group classifications, are
considered different and abnormal. This causes people from outside of the dominant group to
aspire to be part of this normal group, as they consider this to be of more benefit than to be placed
within the diverse category. Therefore, aspiring to climb higher within the social ladder that has
been created through society expectations of normalisation (Theodorou, 2011). When discussing
diversity, often it is in relation to how different it is from the normal, typically white background
(Milne, 2013). This means that it is causing the other groups to be put in boxes according to how
different their culture and beliefs are from the normal, as opposed to recognising unique cultures as
something to be valued. Due to normalisation s pervasive nature it tends to have a significant
influence in many domains of society, such as education (Stanford

Ban on Chinese Toys
New Delhi launched 17 investigations into imports from China, 10 of which were anti dumping
probes, and had banned the importation of Chinese made toys for six months alleging their high
content of toxic chemicals is a danger to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More than 4000 toy manufacturers had to close down their units and lay off workers. Part of this
was also attributable to the financial crisis of 2008.It is also estimated that more than 100,000
people were affected, directly or indirectly, due to this ban.
Nearly half of China s toy factories closed last year. The country started the year with 8,610
factories producing and exporting 70 per cent of all the world s toys. By the end of 2008, only
4,388 remained a decline of 49 per cent, figures from the customs office showed.Among the
biggest closures was that of Smart Union, a Hong Kong listed maker of toys for companies such
as Mattel and Disney in the United States. It closed last October with the loss of 7,000 jobs.
Alternative Sources of Import in case of Ban: THAILAND
Toy manufacturing in Thailand has developed from a low quality, low price industry producing
goods for primarily the domestic market, to one that turns out quality products and plays an
important role in the country s export sector. The toy industry in Thailand has been dominated by
foreign investments, which poured into the country during the 1980 s. Asian toy makers quickly
set up production facilities, benefiting from low labor costs in Thailand and GSP privileges
available for Thai based toy exporters to the leading markets in the U.S. and Europe. Over 450
factories are currently

It s meant for keeping secrets secret.
The objectives of Cryptography are as follows:
Confidentiality Ensuring that the information cannot be understood by anyone other than whom it
was intended.
Integrity Ensuring that the information cannot be altered in storage or in transit.
Non repudiation Where the creator or sender of information cannot later deny creation of the
message to be sent.
Authentication In which the sender and receiver can confirm each other s identity as well as the

Is The Tell Tale Heart Effective
How Edgar Allan Poe s The Tell Tale Heart is Very Effective The Tell Tale Heart is the most
effective short story short story ever. Don t believe me? Let me persuade you. Edgar Allan Poe s
short story The Tell Tale Heart focuses on a mentally ill man who dislikes a old man s eye and
murders him, after killing him he hears his heart beat and rats himself out to the police
. This story whilst having a pretty simple plot really stands out because of how Edgar Allan Poe
develops his characters, gives a sense of eeriness throughout the story, and how detailed the plot
is made. The Narrator of the story is a crazy man who has the urge to murder a old man because
his eye was like that of a vulture. The speaker repeats the line I m not crazy

Labour Movement Pros And Cons
The Labor Movement generated opposition from both the government and the public since they
both saw unions as violent and lawless. The government used force to control the unions showing
their disgust for the views and actions of these organizations. Well, organized and growing
businesses took the advantage in the struggle with labor, so the workersstarted labor unions. It is
easily argued both ways whether or not unions formed were beneficialto workers. With great
evidence though, it is proven that although beneficial in many ways, for the most part unions were
very negative towards the progress of our country.
1. The very first labor union, The National Labor Union was started in 1866. This union lasted for
six years and had 600,00 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then on May 4 labor disorders had broken out in Haymarket Square and the police were called.
Suddenly a dynamite bomb was thrown that killed or injured several dozen people. The people
wrongfully connected the Knights with the Anarchists, and the power of the Knights of Labor
came to a dismal end.
The Homestead strike in 1892 was the first major strike to take place after the downfall of the
Knights. It started at Carnegie s steel plant in Homestead, PA. when workers refused to accept
new wage cuts. Henry Clay Frick shut down the plant and surrounded it with guards to protect the
property. The infuriated workers soon ran the guards out when they realized that Frick had
intentions of reopening the plant with strikebreakers. After a thirteen hour struggle Carnegies
Company persuaded the governor of Pennsylvania to provide help, the state militia was
summoned to restore peace. The company began to bring in strikebreaker to replace employees
who had walked out. Many of the leaders of the strike were prosecuted for rioting and murder. The
steel workers union was detroyed. Some members of Congress were sympathetic to Homestead
strikers. The public in general felt little sympathy for the strikers because they felt that the working
person should remain free to sell services as an individual and not through a union. Many thought
that the right to work was sacred. They felt that union organizers had no business interfering

Orange Juice: Health Benefits, Nutritional Value Calories
Orange juice, as you can probably guess, is the juice squeezed from the popular and delicious
citrus fruit, oranges. It is widely considered one of the healthiest beverages because of its wide
range of health benefits, which include its ability to boost immune system function, reduce signs of
aging, protect against cancer, boost cellular repair and metabolism, detoxify the body, improve
circulation, improves blood pressure, reduces inflammation, and lowers cholesterol levels.
Oranges have been a staple of eating healthy for thousands of years, and the fruit probably
originated somewhere in Southeast Asia. Historical records of oranges date back as far as China,
more than 4,500 years ago. It is one of the most popular citrus fruits, and its scientific name is ...

Sakhmet Lioness Head Essay
Of all the Ancient Egyptian art created to display power, none can compare to statues of
Sakhmet, she who is powerful. The power that Sakhmet is named for and expresses in her
ferocious attacks and protection is embodied in the diorite statue of her head in the Carlos
Museum that commands the attention of all individuals who pass by. Sakhmet s lioness head
affixed with a mane or radial halo headdress protrudes from the background in an authoritative
fashion that asserts her dominance as a warrior and protector. In this statue of Sakhmet
commissioned by Amenhotep III, the artist s intermixing of the naturalistic features of the female
body and the head of a lioness are accentuated with geometric forms and lines that heighten
Sakhmet s power while bringing about an overall feeling of peacefulness that makes viewers feel
as if they are under her protection. Similar to other Ancient Egyptian statues, Sakhmet s form is
encased in the diorite that she was carved from. Although this results in the piece being viewable
only from the front, it enhances the piece as the natural form of the diorite act as shoulders and the
tips of her ears. The use of the natural form of the diorite to... Show more content on

Surrounding Sakhmet s lioness head is a halo or mane that features a radial design of triangles
and encircles her entire face stopping just at the top of her head where her hairline begins.
Sakhmet s geometrically incised ring further accentuates her lioness face. Underneath her halo, is
her hair that is embellished with vertical lines to create strands or braids that flank a neck collar
just below her jaw crafted with horizontal lines that increase in curvature as they reach the base of
her breasts. The addition of accessory pieces to Sakhmet works to add humanness to her heavily
emphasized fierce lioness

The Scottsboro Trials Essay
The Scottsboro Trials Racism wasted the lives of nine young, black men. In a trial where the
only plausible evidence proved their innocence, they were still convicted. They were accused of
rape, but all it was was an accusation. There was nothing to back it up. They endured many trials
almost all of which had prejudice juries. This is the story of nine young men who had little, and
then had everything taken away from them. On March 24, 1931, nine black youths were accused
of raping two white girls; Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. There was only one of them who was not
in his teens, Charlie Weems. Ozie Powell and Clarence Norris were both slender, but muscular and
healthy. Olen Montgomery was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The others had knives. According to Victoria they began to fight the white boys. They apparently
yelled Unload you white sons of bitches , making them jump out of the train. Victoria continued
her testimony saying; the Negroes held knives to the girls throats and raped them. When the white
boys were thrown off of the train they alerted the Stevenson stationmaster that a group of Negroes
and two white girls were on the train. He immediately informed authorities and the boys tied
together and arrested at the next station. Later, George Chamlee, One of the representatives for
the International Labor Defense at the Scottsboro trials, investigated to see if the girls had made
the charges before the boys were arrested. He claimed that these girls just gave in to the
assumptions that the authorities had when they arrested the Negroes. There is no way of proving
this conclusively, but from the interview I had with the two girls separately several weeks after the
trial, I would say that there is a strong possibility of truth in this. (Ransdell, Plausibility of the
Charges Questioned). When the press interviewed the Negroes, they all remained silent except to
deny assaulting the girls. Except Roy Wright who kept insisting that he and his three friends, the
only ones of the group he d ever met, were innocent. He said that the others attacked the

Martin Luther King, The Southern Christian Leadership...
Under the leadership of Martin Luther King, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference
(SCLC), bought the Black Civil Rights Movement and his desegregation concepts to Birmingham
in 1963 for several reasons. The most pivotal of these reasons being his African American racial
status and his Christian faith which drove him to fight for the rights his people deserved.
He believed that the most racial injustice lay not only in the Southern states of America but in
Birmingham, Alabama as expressed in his 1963 Letter from a Birmingham Jail, to fellow clergymen
who criticized his methods, King stating, I am in Birmingham because injustice is here. In
Birmingham, much like other Southern American States public facilities such as parks, movie
theatres, lunch bars, restaurants, and water fountains were segregated (African Americans had
different, lesser facilities than the Whites) which ultimately led King, SCLC, and ordinary African
American citizens to hold these non violent protests to have the desegregation they had sought after
for many years.
His second reason to bring the Black Civil Rights Movement to Birmingham was due to their
Commissioner of Public Safety, Eugene Bull Connor. Connor was greatly opposed to the idea of
segregation and King knew Connor s reaction to the non violent movement he had proposed would
be one of violence and aggression. The town also had a history of extreme violence, not only
towards African Americans but nigger lovers alike. Examples

Other Men Are Thorn
Mahadeviyakka was the first women to leave her husband, this act was unheard of at this time
and held the consequence of banishment or even death. During this time, women were treated
like property instead of human beings, while men held all the power. Marriage was a deal made
by two men trading value for value. Whether it be property, crops, money, etc these deals were
made prior to a marriagefor the sole purpose of a business agreement. The poems of these 13th
century times are relevant in today s 21st century world, portraying a moral lesson that is taught
over and over again throughout time. In the poem Other Men Are Thorn Mahadeviyakka talks
about her marriage and how it destroyed her whole perspective on men. By saying all men are...

Relating a man to a thorn is the same as saying he has no heart, or he is not capable of love. The
moral lesson of the poem is to not trust men and that women are powerful. The song Diamond
by Rihanna talks about shining bright, the brightness Rihanna is telling women to overcome the
darkness that shadows over and to shine bright to come out of it. The darkness is relative to
men, and women who shine bright are independent strong forces that are done being a piece of
property. In the song she also says were beautiful like diamonds in the sky meaning all women
are beautiful, just as beautiful as an expensive and most sought after gems. Mahadeviyakka
believed she was better than just a sex slave, and she also believed she was beautiful. By leaving
her husband she showed power, then on top of that she decided to walk around naked to display
her beauty and lack of care for rules. Both the poem and song are about women becoming
empowered, and stepping over boundaries that were once unachievable. In the poem
Mahadeviyakka realizes her anger and frustration towards men but does not reason with why she
categorizes all men as thorns. Her

(4) Although it is commonly associated with cosmetic surgery, the origin of this specialty lies in its reconstructive aspect. Therefore, I chose to explore this aspect and, since% of the patients submitted to the observed interventions were female, I decided to focus this monograph in an area of so much importance for the woman as the breast. The nipple areolar reconstruction (RMA) concludes the reconstruction process, although it can be followed by adjunctive procedures of symmetrization and fat infiltration, in order to improve the final aesthetic result. The enteric nervous system (ENS) is the aspect of the digestive system endowed with its own nervous system (Bowen 2006). As far as the article is concerned, there were three important biological findings presented in the article concerning the ENS. The first was that glial cells, under situations that are comparable to environmental, aggregate in the lamina propria during early stages of development after birth. The second finding was that this population of glial cells undergoes a regenerative cycle throughout the life of the organism. This occurs in a specific region of the gut. The final finding was that this early stage development and subsequent regeneration throughout the life of the organism depends on the microbiota presented to the gut. The Microbiota, as they are referred to in the article, are part of an enormous array of microbes which colonize the body (Baily, Gur, Worly, 2015). Therefore it can be understood that the gut microbiota are the microbes of the body that inhabit the gut. These seem to be part of the primary focus in the article. While content on broadcast networks such as ABC and NBC is regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), premium channels like the Home Box Office (HBO) do not fall under their jurisdiction and therefore do not need to obey such regulations (Title 47). A prime example of graphic violenceon televisionthat falls outside of the FCC s purview is found in the HBO hit series Game of Thrones. The ninth episode of the third season of Game of Thrones, The Rains of Castamere , is well known as one of the most violent episodes in the show. This is mostly attributed to a specific scene in this episode, known by the book readers as the Red Wedding. The scene is one of the most violent scenes in all of Game of Thrones history. The Red Wedding scene was quite controversial after it aired in 2013, with some arguing that it was too violent, even for an HBO television show. Others stated that they thought the violence was necessary considering the historical references mentioned, and the way the book was written. I believe that the purpose of the violence and gore found in Game of Thrones, and more specifically The Rains of Castamere , is to replicate the way modern audiences think of the Dark Ages. It also stands to entice the original readers of the novels who would expect the violence of the show to live up to that in the books. The violence in The Rains of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most failures caused by groundwater and seepage can be classified into one of two categories based on the type of soil movement that is occurring. The failures will typically develop over a relatively long period of time so there will be ample warning if routine inspections are performed. The two categories of failure include those that take place when soil particles migrate to an escape exit and cause piping or erosion failures, and those that are caused by uncontrolled seepage patterns that lead to saturation, internal flooding, excessive uplift, or excessive seepage forces. Controlling Seepage Regularly scheduled monitoring and inspection is essential to detect seepage and prevent dam failure. Inspections should be made periodically throughout the year. Frequency should be based on hazard classification of the dam. Higher classified dams should be checked more common, compared to those that are lower hazard classified. At a minimum all dams should be visually inspected at least every six months, before a predicted major storm event, during or after severe rainstorms or snowmelts, and inspected weekly after construction is complete and reservoir filling is ongoing, and for at least two months after the reservoir has been filled. As one critic has noted, local forms of speech maintain one s individual dignity in a homogenizing world (Burkett vii). In Faulkner, this local speech is a mixture of Southern American and Negro dialogue with all the folklore from Virginia to Louisiana, Florida to Texas (Brown 2). Mycorrhizae Mycorrhizal fungi play a large role in the terrestrial manifestation of plants (their movement onto land). This is because this species of fungi form a symbiotic relationship with plant roots, allowing them to have more surface area and an overall greater water and nutrient absorption. These symbiotic relationships occur in majority of plants and growth results can be drastic since mycorrhizae allows for greater phosphorus consumption than the 15 20% consumed by plants without mycorrhizae (Prasad Power, 1997, p. 171). We jumped into a Land Cruiser and made our way quickly to the flight line. ZG477 had the early morning sun glinting off the canopy as we drew up to the flight line. After a quick check round the outside and a chat for any issues, I climbed into the cockpit, got strapped in with the help of ground crew and began pre flight checks. The Pegasus engine burst into life and we were soon on our way along the taxiway towards the end of the runway at Kandahar. The GR9 Harriers were originally fitted with the Pegasus MK105 engine providing 21,750lb and the GR9A Harriers fitted with the higher rated Pegasus MK107 engine providing 23,400lb thrust. The GR9A with the higher rated engine were also modified to incorporate a new metal, high fatigue rated, rear fuselage section as well. We were given immediate takeoff clearance. As soon as I had turned onto he runway and was straight, I pushed the throttle fully forward, holding the brakes on before releasing them moments later. The noise of the Pegasus engine rose to a high pitch scream as the Harrier leapt forward, pushing me back into the seat. On takeoff, you always needed to concentrate on keeping the aircraft flying straight as it rocked slightly from side to side as it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. My Study Of Landscapes And Landscape Theory The sublime when involved specifically within nature and landscapes, concerns itself with representing a dark scene that usually shows the uncontrollable power of nature. The focus on storms as moments when the sleepy grandeur of nature is stirred up... arouses the inner force of the subject... and laid the groundwork of the sublime tradition . (B.Beckley, 2001) This became my main area of focus for my work; to create a series of paintings showing the power and unpredictability of nature over a landscape. In my previous project I began my study of landscapes by focussing on our everyday surrounding and variances in landscapes being dependant on individuals social and cultural differences. In Landscape Theory, Jackson suggests landscapes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This contradicts my intentions of representing the sublime in nature. This directed my work into a more focussed outcome; to show landscape that represents both the picturesque s control and the sublimes unpredictability. I started to experiment with various maps, specifically a familiar landscape for me (where I grew up), and how I could incorporate or contrast these with the sublime in landscape. I see the maps within my work as a way to represent order, and so experimented with various methods in layering over the top to cover the controlled element in a free manner to represent the uncontrollable aspects of the sublime creating contrast. The direction for my work was initially inspired by my research into David Hockneys paintings in the previous term. David Hockney uses colour theory to determine his choice of contrasting and complementary palette in his paintings. This unique style, paired with the vast scale of most of his work, creates an immersion for the viewer into the landscape being depicted. I wanted to recreate this within my work with scale but also colour palette. I had little concern with specific use of colour theory, but experimented with blocks of bold, bright colours to create the landscape; while leaving enough visual connections to allow the viewer to depict an aerial view or map of a landscape. While reading I came across an article using the phrase degree of abstraction . Although the article had no connection ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Role Of Chivalry In Beowulf The role of chivalry is a complicated concept for solitary heroes within Beowulf and Albrecht DГјrer s Knight, Death, and the Devil. In Beowulf, the concept of chivalry is explained through the eyes of the hero, Beowulf, which is the idea of performing chivalrous actions in the face of death for glory; however, Beowulfdoes not realize that his actions will not keep his people safe in the end. In Knight, Death and the Devil, the idea of chivalry is the motivation of the knight on religious grounds to be chivalrous in the face of death. The Knight gives the impression that he understood that his actions would ultimately be meaningless, and he appears resigned to the idea. The argument can be made that chivalry is unsustainable in both texts, given that while it inspires these heroes to pursue these tasks, the result is that they believe that mild sacrifices, such as their own life, must be made to ensure victory; however, these two texts differ with their heroes anticipated outcomes of their sacrifices, which turns out to be for nothing. Despite having different outcomes of operating within a system of chivalry, these two texts similarly critique the outcomes of chivalry as being unsustainable based on the demands it places on heroes to sacrificethemselves. To defend this claim, I will begin by similarly critiquing how chivalry is unsustainable within both texts. I will then express how both texts show the unsustainability results from the demands of sacrifice. I will then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Beginning Of Enslavement Of Slavery Essay The Beginning of Enslavement After the Thirty Years War, Europe s economy was depressed leaving many laborers without work. A life in the New World, gave European Immigrants a new sense of hope. Indentured Servants were people who sold their labor voluntarily in exchange for free passage to the New World, and given housing upon their arrival. They were willing to enter an agreement to work for a specified amount of time, nor were considered the property of the contract holder. Alike in certain aspects, however, divergent in many areas of Indentured Servants, in the early 1600 s Slavery began in America when the first African Slaves brought to the colony of Jamestown, Virginia. Virginia was one of the first states to acknowledge slavery in its laws, to aid the production of lucrative tobacco crops. In 1670. The law that defined which people could be enslaved declared, all servants not being Christians imported into this colony by shipping shall be slaves for their lives. (Norton, Mary Beth. (2015). Initially, slaves were treated as Indentured Servants and given much freedom until eventually slave laws were passed. When the slave laws were passed this had seized any freedoms that might have existed for African Americans. The colonies began to reflect contradictions between Indentured Servants and Slaves. More important, the laws began to differentiate between races: the association of servitude for natural life with people of African descent became common. (Law ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What people do know is that every living person has one thing in common, something that will never change. Everyone will die, there s no way around it. Every new and old generation will succumb to the same ghastly fate. The differences in the old generation and new generation sometimes collide in life. The newer generation is always tormented with thought. They are constantly thinking of what some one else is thinking, or some one else is feeling. Gabriel is distraught when he tries to understand his wife and why she is upset. When he finds out what the problem is, he finds out he was wrong and he doesn t know everything, although he sometimes thinks so. This particular text appeals to me because it is important in how it introduces the characters, as this is the first time the audience ever meet them. Relative Status: Rick and Neil are both students living in the same house; therefore their status should be equal though both are striving for dominance. Rick is defiantly the more dominant of the two, due to his extrovert personality. Both characters are self centred, for instance, at the beginning of the scene; Neil delivers a monologue where he talks about himself... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is denoted by the way Neil talks to himself or arguably the audience, about what is going on. His frequent use of fillers such as right and like emphasize the chatty, personal speech and helps make a scripted conversation flow like a natural one. These fillers also make Neil more real and human; this helps the audience to relate to him. This is especially important as the character of Neil is arguably there to be sympathised with. When Rick is discussing his poem about Cliff Richard, Neil is talking about how he is going to kill himself, this is an attempt to change the topic of conversation, however he fails as Rick is the dominant speaker. Thus, two separate conversations run parallel with each other. Lexis: The lexis within my transcript is informal, conversational and often colloquial. For example words such as eh , huh , yeah and gonna are examples of conversational lexis. There are also examples of clichГ©d hippy lexis used by Neil, such as man , heavy , karma and suss out , these form the semantic field of spiritualists, which reinforce stereotypical ideas about students and hippies . Rick s poem displays many typical features of a poem, with the use of rhyme and repetition. The Statement of Principles by the International Conference on Cataloguing Principles in Paris in 1961 established the rules and concepts that create catalog standardization for libraries multinationally. Based, in part, on Samuel Lubetzky s unfinished book Code of cataloging rules; author and title entry. An unfinished draft for a new edition of cataloging rules (1960), the Paris Principles created order in a library community that was much less communal than it is today by modernizing antiquated cataloging systems and bringing consensus and consistency to the world of library information organization (Lubetzky, 1960). Communal borrowing and sharing of bibliographic data was primarily implemented to serve library catalogs, particularly of large general libraries and are designed for printed books and documents (Frost 1983). Let me persuade you. Edgar Allan Poe s short story The Tell Tale Heart focuses on a mentally ill man who dislikes a old man s eye and murders him, after killing him he hears his heart beat and rats himself out to the police . This story whilst having a pretty simple plot really stands out because of how Edgar Allan Poe develops his characters, gives a sense of eeriness throughout the story, and how detailed the plot is made. The Narrator of the story is a crazy man who has the urge to murder a old man because his eye was like that of a vulture. The speaker repeats the line I m not crazy ... • 47. Labour Movement Pros And Cons The Labor Movement generated opposition from both the government and the public since they both saw unions as violent and lawless. The government used force to control the unions showing their disgust for the views and actions of these organizations. Well, organized and growing businesses took the advantage in the struggle with labor, so the workersstarted labor unions. It is easily argued both ways whether or not unions formed were beneficialto workers. With great evidence though, it is proven that although beneficial in many ways, for the most part unions were very negative towards the progress of our country. 1. Then on May 4 labor disorders had broken out in Haymarket Square and the police were called. Suddenly a dynamite bomb was thrown that killed or injured several dozen people. The people wrongfully connected the Knights with the Anarchists, and the power of the Knights of Labor came to a dismal end. The Homestead strike in 1892 was the first major strike to take place after the downfall of the Knights. It started at Carnegie s steel plant in Homestead, PA. when workers refused to accept new wage cuts. Henry Clay Frick shut down the plant and surrounded it with guards to protect the property. The infuriated workers soon ran the guards out when they realized that Frick had intentions of reopening the plant with strikebreakers. After a thirteen hour struggle Carnegies Company persuaded the governor of Pennsylvania to provide help, the state militia was summoned to restore peace. The company began to bring in strikebreaker to replace employees who had walked out. Many of the leaders of the strike were prosecuted for rioting and murder. The steel workers union was detroyed. Some members of Congress were sympathetic to Homestead strikers. The public in general felt little sympathy for the strikers because they felt that the working person should remain free to sell services as an individual and not through a union. Many thought that the right to work was sacred. They felt that union organizers had no business interfering ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Sakhmet Lioness Head Essay Of all the Ancient Egyptian art created to display power, none can compare to statues of Sakhmet, she who is powerful. The power that Sakhmet is named for and expresses in her ferocious attacks and protection is embodied in the diorite statue of her head in the Carlos Museum that commands the attention of all individuals who pass by. Sakhmet s lioness head affixed with a mane or radial halo headdress protrudes from the background in an authoritative fashion that asserts her dominance as a warrior and protector. In this statue of Sakhmet commissioned by Amenhotep III, the artist s intermixing of the naturalistic features of the female body and the head of a lioness are accentuated with geometric forms and lines that heighten Sakhmet s power while bringing about an overall feeling of peacefulness that makes viewers feel as if they are under her protection. Similar to other Ancient Egyptian statues, Sakhmet s form is encased in the diorite that she was carved from. Although this results in the piece being viewable only from the front, it enhances the piece as the natural form of the diorite act as shoulders and the tips of her ears. • 50. The Scottsboro Trials Essay The Scottsboro Trials Racism wasted the lives of nine young, black men. In a trial where the only plausible evidence proved their innocence, they were still convicted. They were accused of rape, but all it was was an accusation. There was nothing to back it up. They endured many trials almost all of which had prejudice juries. This is the story of nine young men who had little, and then had everything taken away from them. On March 24, 1931, nine black youths were accused of raping two white girls; Victoria Price and Ruby Bates. There was only one of them who was not in his teens, Charlie Weems. Ozie Powell and Clarence Norris were both slender, but muscular and healthy. Olen Montgomery was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The others had knives. According to Victoria they began to fight the white boys. They apparently yelled Unload you white sons of bitches , making them jump out of the train. Victoria continued her testimony saying; the Negroes held knives to the girls throats and raped them. When the white boys were thrown off of the train they alerted the Stevenson stationmaster that a group of Negroes and two white girls were on the train. He immediately informed authorities and the boys tied together and arrested at the next station. Later, George Chamlee, One of the representatives for the International Labor Defense at the Scottsboro trials, investigated to see if the girls had made the charges before the boys were arrested. He claimed that these girls just gave in to the assumptions that the authorities had when they arrested the Negroes. There is no way of proving this conclusively, but from the interview I had with the two girls separately several weeks after the trial, I would say that there is a strong possibility of truth in this. (Ransdell, Plausibility of the Charges Questioned). When the press interviewed the Negroes, they all remained silent except to deny assaulting the girls. Except Roy Wright who kept insisting that he and his three friends, the only ones of the group he d ever met, were innocent. He said that the others attacked the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Martin Luther King, The Southern Christian Leadership... Under the leadership of Martin Luther King, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), bought the Black Civil Rights Movement and his desegregation concepts to Birmingham in 1963 for several reasons. The most pivotal of these reasons being his African American racial status and his Christian faith which drove him to fight for the rights his people deserved. He believed that the most racial injustice lay not only in the Southern states of America but in Birmingham, Alabama as expressed in his 1963 Letter from a Birmingham Jail, to fellow clergymen who criticized his methods, King stating, I am in Birmingham because injustice is here. In Birmingham, much like other Southern American States public facilities such as parks, movie theatres, lunch bars, restaurants, and water fountains were segregated (African Americans had different, lesser facilities than the Whites) which ultimately led King, SCLC, and ordinary African American citizens to hold these non violent protests to have the desegregation they had sought after for many years. His second reason to bring the Black Civil Rights Movement to Birmingham was due to their Commissioner of Public Safety, Eugene Bull Connor. Connor was greatly opposed to the idea of segregation and King knew Connor s reaction to the non violent movement he had proposed would be one of violence and aggression. The town also had a history of extreme violence, not only towards African Americans but nigger lovers alike. Examples ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Relating a man to a thorn is the same as saying he has no heart, or he is not capable of love. The moral lesson of the poem is to not trust men and that women are powerful. The song Diamond by Rihanna talks about shining bright, the brightness Rihanna is telling women to overcome the darkness that shadows over and to shine bright to come out of it. The darkness is relative to men, and women who shine bright are independent strong forces that are done being a piece of property. In the song she also says were beautiful like diamonds in the sky meaning all women are beautiful, just as beautiful as an expensive and most sought after gems. Mahadeviyakka believed she was better than just a sex slave, and she also believed she was beautiful. By leaving her husband she showed power, then on top of that she decided to walk around naked to display her beauty and lack of care for rules.
